Trump Administration Approves Sale of F-16s to Taiwan
[FreeBeacon] The Trump administration has approved the sale of dozens of new F-16 jet fighters to Taiwan, the first major warplane sale to the island state in nearly 30 years.
Doesn't give a fuck what China thinks!
The inter-agency decision, to be announced in the near future, authorized the sale of up to 66 F-16V jet fighters at an estimated cost of $13 billion, according to administration officials familiar with internal discussions.

The jets are among several new weapons systems, including missiles, that are part of the administration's latest arms sale to Taiwan, a key U.S. partner in the Asia Pacific region.

#7  There are big Chinese bounties for defectors who take their aircraft with them. I hope the Taiwanese are pretty good about figuring out who should get to fly their latest equipment. The F-16V has state of the art equipment on board. I would have preferred the C/D variant. Singapore's pretty good about internal security despite the fact that 70% of its population is ethnic Chinese. That's why it's part of the F-35 program and has an order in the pipeline for the most expensive STOVL variant. Taiwan, not so much.

#9  Would have liked to see a few squadrons of F-15X go to Taiwan. A whole new set of targets in China then opens up. Also 20+ air-air missiles come in handy when outnumbered in a defensive air battle.

#11  Thanks TW.

I agree. Some F-15Xs to go with this would make Taiwan be able to control the air over their island instead of a aerial stalemate that would happen now.

China has more fighters than Taiwan, but most are older and have pretty crappy technology. Combined with the anti-air that Taiwan has, the air superiority battle would be pretty close to a draw.

#1  Between the flood, the temperature, and the storm those ranchers are really getting their asses kicked.

Last I saw, some 21 communities have been evacuated.

Carry restrictions have been suspended in an effort to save as many cows as possible and introduce relief supplies and equipment.

Agriculture community is as all over this as the MSM is not; want to help contact your local Ag Community group such as 4-H for suggestion. A lot of volunteer work is getting into the act, but operating equipment still costs money so even monetary donations are greatly appreciated.

Its a mess. Watch out downriver.

Looting, clashes as Yellow Vests seek new momentum
[France24] Demonstrators looted stores on the Champs-Elysees avenue in Paris on Saturday, on the 18th week of "yellow vest" protests, characterised by an uptick in violence after dwindling participation in recent weeks.

A Boss menswear store and the gourmet Fouquet’s restaurant were among the premises vandalised as groups of masked protesters lobbed stones at police defending the Arc de Triomphe war memorial.

The police responded with teargas and water cannon but failed to disperse the more radical protesters who erected burning barricades in scenes reminiscent of the worst "yellow vest" riots in the capital in December.

The rally was called to coincide with the end of two months of public debates called by President Emmanuel Macron to give voters a forum to air their grievances and propose policy changes.

The protesters have dismissed the debates as a smoke-screen.

Saturday’s turnout will be seen as a measure of the power of the "yellow vest" movement, which began in November over fuel tax hikes but quickly ballooned into a broader anti-government rebellion.

Thousands of people converged on the Champs-Elysees focal point of the Paris protests over the past four months for "Act XVIII" of a movement which had appeared to be running out of steam but whose core demands still enjoy broad public support.

How New Zealand's gun laws compare to the States'
[Washington Examiner] The terrorist attack at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, that left more than 49 people dead and scores of others wounded has evoked a lot of emotion and debate in the United States about how government can effectively reduce the amount of gun violence in schools and places of worship.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., helped to spark the discussion when, in the immediate wake of the attack, she wrote to her 3.5 million Twitter followers, "What good are your thoughts & prayers when they don't even keep the pews safe?"

She clarified the tweet by writing, "'Thoughts and prayers' is reference to the NRA’s phrase used to deflect conversation away from policy change during tragedies."

It appears Ocasio-Cortez, in an effort to malign the U.S. gun advocacy group, applied American standards to New Zealand, a country that arguably has tougher guns laws than the United States.

In the U.S., gun laws vary from state to state. In California, which has an "A" rating from the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, all gun sales are required to go through a licensed dealer, which requires a background check. Most so-called assault weapons and .50-caliber rifles have been banned in the Golden State, and, in 2018, Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law legislation that raised the minimum age for buying rifles from 18 to 21 years.

Its next-door neighbor Nevada, on the other hand, has a "D" rating from the Giffords Law Center. In Nevada, people subject to a domestic violence protective order are required to relinquish their firearms to law enforcement, but the state has looser restrictions on gun sales as well as licensing and registration of purchased firearms.

Despite the disparity between these two states, both suffered horrific mass shootings in the last few years. In December 2015, 14 people were killed, and 24 others were wounded in San Bernardino, Calif., in a mass shooting and attempted bombing by a married couple that pledged allegiance to the Islamic State. In October 2017, 58 people were killed, and hundreds more were wounded in Las Vegas, Nev., in what was considered the deadliest mass shooting committed by an individual in U.S. history.

In New Zealand, there are far more gun restrictions than the United States on average, although they might appear to be looser than some left-leaning states.

#1  New Zealand has an Arms Act which was enacted by legislative process. The 2nd Amendment in the U.S. is a guaranteed individual right established by our Constitution in 1781. The 2nd Amendment guarantees all other amendments and rights. It also is in place to prevent a tyrannical government. This right shall not be infringed.

The 2nd amendment is:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Within Minutes of Event CNN Guest Intercept columnist Mehdi Hasan Connects Trump to Mosque Shooting in New Zealand
[MRC Newsbusters] Minutes after news broke of a tragic shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand (at what ended up being at least two mosques) during the second hour of CNN Tonight and with almost no information for the shooter or shooters, Intercept columnist Mehdi Hasan claimed that "far-right terrorism" was on the rise in the United States and blamed President Trump for attacks both here and abroad.

After listening to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern deliver a press conference on the shooting, Hasan was the first guest host Don Lemon went to and cited his guest’s Muslim beliefs.

"And I think to kind of talk about the story we talked about before in terms of Trump's rhetoric as well. Western government has turned a blind eye to domestic terrorism, to domestic far-right terrorism," Hasan proclaimed.

Without citing his sources, Hasan suggested the "stats" show that "here in the U.S." "far-right terrorism" was responsible for "more attacks, more casualties from domestic terrorist groups -- far-right groups, than there are quote-unquote jihadist or Islamist groups."

According to Hasan, not only was Trump’s rhetoric responsible for attacks in the U.S., he was responsible for attacks in other countries:

#5  If you can track it down (it is being taken down) catch the Chelsea video. Very instructive:

Here is The Chelsea Clinton, daughter of President Bill Clinton and long serving Senator and twice presidential candidate Hillary! Clinton, heiress to The Clinton Foundation, mast head of the leftist movement, and pregnant mother, being scolded by a nobody islamic zealot who goes to the classic line that muslims go to when something bad happens to muslims by a non-muslim - The Joooos! did it!

Because Chelsea did one of her mundane boring tweets about antisemitism.

I do not think I need to explain my opinion of Chelsea, but I honestly felt bad for her. Chelsea had reality take a big shit on her, but the muslimas behaviors were totally out of line.

Like I said, if you can find it, it is instructive.

7 Arrested in Undercover Drug Operation Led by Southern Pines, NC Police
[The Pilot.com] Authorities say a year-long drug investigation has led to arrest of a “prominent member of an organized street gang” and six other people accused of contributing to the distribution of cocaine and heroin in Southern Pines.

The arrests were made as part of an undercover probe codenamed “Operation Leader,” according to a news release issued Wednesday by the Southern Pines Police Department.

Lee Marvin Harris Jr., 32, was among the suspects arrested. Harris, who has homes in Aberdeen and Charlotte, has a history of felony convictions in Moore County for drug-related offenses, the release said.

According to the release, the Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division “developed information that (Harris) and the other accused individuals (…) were distributing cocaine and heroin” in the town.

“This criminal activity was associated with a continuing gang-related criminal enterprise and conspiracy,” the release said. “Lee Marvin Harris Jr. has been identified as a prominent member of an organized street gang (that identifies itself) as the ‘Dope Boys Clique,’ or ‘DBC.’”

Harris is charged with trafficking cocaine, felony maintaining a dwelling for the storage and sale of a controlled substance, possession of heroin, trafficking in opium or heroin, manufacture, sell, deliver or possess a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school and possession a firearm by a felon. He was placed in the Moore County Detention Center under a $9 million secured bond.

NC Republicans file bill to force county sheriffs to work with ICE
[ABC] North Carolina House Bill 370 has a number of sponsors, but most importantly, it has the backing of House Speaker Tim Moore.

It was filed Thursday as a direct push back against the sheriffs in Wake, Durham, Orange, and other urban counties who are fulfilling campaign promises not to work with federal immigration officials.

"This is probably one of the worst things that we think could have happened," said Mary Jose Espinosa, a civic organizer for El Pueblo, Inc.

Google Refuses To Work With US Military, But Provides 'Direct Benefit' to China's Milirary
[Daily Caller] General Joseph Dunford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had harsh words for Google’s relationship with China during a Thursday Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.

"The work that Google is doing in China is ... indirectly benefiting the Chinese military," Dunford told committee members during the defense budget hearing.

"Look, we’re the good guys. And the values that we represent, and the system that we represent is the one that will allow you, and has allowed you, to thrive," he said in a paraphrase of how he describes the situation to "industry partners."

Dunford characterized the work Google and other companies do in China as having "indirect benefit" before going even further.
We watch with great concern when industry partners work in China knowing that there is that indirect benefit. And frankly, ’indirect’ may be not a full characterization of the way it really is. It’s more of a direct benefit to the Chinese military.

Republican Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, a vocal opponent of some Big Tech practices, tweeted video of Dunford’s statement, calling it a "must watch video."

Kamala's Collectivist Values Village
[UNZ Review] Sen. Kamala Harris talks a lot about "our American values." Ditto the rest of the female candidates who’ve declared for president in the busy Democratic field. They all lecture us about "values."

"Our American values are under attack," Harris has tweeted. "Babies are being ripped from their parents at the border ..."

As her own proud "know your values moment," the Democrat from California pinpoints the U.S. Senate Supreme Court confirmation proceedings inflicted on Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

To manipulate Americans, politicians have always used the values cudgel.

With respect to immigration, the idea is to impress upon gullible Americans that the world has a global Right of Return to the U.S. Fail to accept egalitarian immigration for all into America; and you are flouting the very essence of Americanism. (Or, to use liberal argumentation, you’re Hitler.)

When politicians pule about the importance of preserving "our values," they mean their values: Barack Obama’s values, Hillary Clinton’s values, Angela Merkel’s values, Chucky Schumer’s values, Jeff Bezos’ values, the late John McMussolini’s values, Lindsey Graham’s values, and Jared and Ivanka’s values (but not Trump’s).

When a politician preaches about "the values that make our country great," to quote Mrs. Clinton, chances are they mean multiculturalism, pluralism, wide-swung borders, Islam as peace, communities divided by diversity as a net positive, and the Constitution (it mandates all the above, just ask Ruth Bader Ginsburg) as a living, breathing, mutating philosophical malignancy.

For Larger Customers, Eating Out Is Still a Daunting Experience
[NYT] Restaurants have been slow to recognize, much less meet, the needs of plus-size Americans. But there are signs of a new activism and awareness.

Rebecca Alexander’s worst experience dining while large happened just after she nailed a promotion at a nonprofit organization.

She took her staff, and her new boss, to lunch at a promising downtown restaurant in Portland, Ore., where she lives. As the hostess led the group to a booth, Ms. Alexander, a 31-year-old who wears a size 30, knew in an instant there was no way she was going to squeeze into it.

"I remember having this out-of-body experience," she said. "I watched myself sit down and try to get in even though I knew the space was too small, because I so needed it to fit." Defeated, she asked for a table. The hostess told her there would be a half-hour wait.

"The cherry on top was that I got to be the reason we had to stand around for 30 minutes," she said.

For people who identify as large, plus-size or fat, dining out can be a social and physical minefield. Chairs with arms or impossibly small seats leave marks and bruises. Meals are spent in pain, or filled with worry that a flimsy chair might collapse.

The Key To Stopping Mass Shootings Is To Pass Sensible Legislation Against Thoughts And Prayers
[Babylon Bee] I’ve noticed something. With every mass shooting, there are thoughts and prayers. That’s a correlation -- a science word that means "one caused the other."

Now, I’m a big believer in science. Science tells us about climate change and asteroids. I always listen to science -- except economics which isn’t a real science and is very mean. So if science tells me that thoughts and prayers cause mass shootings, then I’m going to act. I’m going to tweet, "Hey, stop it with those thoughts and prayers." And I’m going to do some more tweets. And then maybe write a bill -- or an FAQ summarizing what I want the bill to be since that’s easier.

And I’m going to teach. Teach people how to stop having thoughts and prayers. Now, not praying is easy. If you’re thinking of asking God for something, just don’t do it. It’s probably good not to pray as praying too much could make you a Republican (there’s another correlation).

Not having thoughts is harder, but I’ve gotten pretty good at it. I just pick a blank wall and stare at it and try not to think. Eventually I sort of black out and lose time. It’s not quite sleep -- actually, my doctor is not exactly sure what that is. Hey, science, there’s another thing for you to look into!

Fury as Australian senator blames Christchurch attack on Muslim immigration
[Guardian] An Australian senator has been strongly criticised after he blamed the New Zealand shooting on Muslim immigration.

Following the attack, which left 49 people dead at two mosques in Christchurch, Fraser Anning tweeted: "Does anyone still dispute the link between Muslim immigration and violence?"

In a statement shared by an Australian journalist on Twitter, the Queensland senator also wrote: "As always, leftwing politicians and the media will rush to claim that the causes of today’s shootings lie with gun laws or those who hold nationalist views, but this is all cliched nonsense.

"The real cause of bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place."

The remarks were denounced by the UK home secretary, Sajid Javid, who accused the senator of stoking extremism.

Related and very humorous: News.com.Au - Youth eggs Senator Fraser Anning on the head from behind. Senator Anning turns around and slaps him a good one (cool video and story).

"I am utterly opposed to any form of violence within our community, and I totally condemn the actions of the gunman," he wrote. "However, whilst this kind of violent vigilantism can never be justified, what it highlights is the growing fear within our community, both in Australia and New Zealand, of the increasing Muslim presence."

“The real cause of bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place. Let us be clear, while Muslims may have been the victims today, usually they are the perpetrators.”

Usually, when some nutjob pulls off a terror attack, there is some mention of how he was a "known wolf". Not seeing any of that here. Don't know if it because he was under the radar or because it doesn't fit The Narrative.

Chris Wallace tells Shep: No Way Trump Will Win In 2020 With Just His Base
[Huffpoo] Fox News host Chris Wallace told colleague Shepard Smith on Friday that there’s no way Donald Trump can win a second term with just his base ‐ and the president doesn’t seem to care about anyone else now.

Smith asked if Trump is simply going to "stay with the base, placate the base and forget everybody else and just figure out a way come 2020?"

"You can’t do it," Wallace responded, "because there’s just not enough votes in the base." Even with polling that indicates as much as 40 percent of eligible voters may be "ever-Trumpers," that’s "not enough to win an election," Wallace emphasized. "So he’s going to have to expand his base."

While his backers love his border wall, it’s not popular with the majority of Americans, Wallace noted. He’s going to need the "independents ... suburban Republicans, suburban women," Wallace added.

He suspects Trump hopes the Democrats will nominate someone "so far to the left ... that it’s going to make it easier for him; he doesn’t have to pivot as far to the center" to pick up some of that support, Wallace added.

#4  I don't pay any attention to the polls, however, I don't think he has a snowballs chance. One of his administrations fatal failures was not cleaning up and vigorously prosecuting voter fraud.

The Democrat/Republican criminal combine is not going to allow him another term. I wish it wasn't so, but that is how I see. The value of Trump's one term is that the mask is well and truly off for our enemies. Can't put that Genie back in the bottle. We also now know that a huge percentage of the population *wants* Socialism.

I see no way to avoid a HOT CW2 at this point. The Left will gain the White House and the Senate in 2020 and proceed to destroy the economy and finish flooding the nation with 3rd world rabble.

United Nations Honors Che Guevara‐Yet Again
[Townhall] ’The United Nations office in Geneva, the home of its Human Rights Council, is showcasing a giant photograph of notorious Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara in its halls, a U.N. watchdog group revealed....Hillel Neuer, the executive director of U.N. Watch, tweeted the picture of the photograph from the building in Switzerland."

“The United Nations is not a friend of democracy, it’s not a friend to freedom, it’s not a friend even to the United States of America where, as you know, it has its home. And it surely is not a friend to Israel.” (Donald Trump, March 21st, 2016.)

“Certainly we execute! And we will continue executing as long as it is necessary! This is a war to the death against our revolution’s enemies!” (Che Guevara, Dec. 9, 1964 to an ovation while addressing the hallowed halls of the UN General Assembly.)

Those executions (murders, actually; execution implies a judicial process) had reached about 15,000 by the time of Che Guevara’s boast, the equivalent, given the relative populations, of almost half a million executions in the U.S. (This figure comes from “The Black Book of Communism,” by the way, written by French scholars and published in English by Harvard University Press, neither representing a bunker of “embittered-right-wing-Cuban-exiles-with an ax-to-grind.”)

US intelligence turncoat gets 15 years for selling secrets to China
[Washington Examiner] A former U.S. intelligence officer has pleaded guilty to spying on behalf of China and agreed to a 15-year prison sentence, federal officials announced Friday.

Chinese agents recruited Ron Rockwell Hansen in early 2014 and paid him hundreds of thousands of dollars. Hanson then spent two years trying to recruit a co-conspirator to provide details about military readiness in a particular region, but that case officer reported the issue and cooperated in a sting to end the espionage.

"This case drives home the troubling reality of insider threats and that current and former clearance holders will be targeted by our adversaries," Eric Barnhart, the FBI special agent in charge of the case, said when Hansen was arrested last year. "The FBI will aggressively investigate individuals who put our national security at risk."

Bill Muelenbert: Some Inconvenient Truths About the Christchurch Massacre
[Culture Watch] The horrific shooting in Christchurch has left a nation numb, and has forced many people to ask plenty of questions. And lots of questions do indeed remain, although we are now learning much more about the main (sole?) gunman, Brenton Harrison Tarrant.

But so many predictable responses are already upon us. As usual, the lamestream media already stands condemned here. While the New Zealand attack was terrible in the extreme, every single day we have massacres of infidels by devout Muslims taking place.

Yet it is almost always crickets chirping from the media. For example, what about the recent Muslim attacks on Christians in a church in Nigeria with 32 deaths; or in Egypt, leaving 9 dead; or the Philippines church attack that killed 20; or the 8 dead in a Somalia market attack, etc. The list is endless.

As one group that monitors all this points out, in the month of February 2019 alone there were 150 deadly Islamic terror attacks in 22 different countries. These resulted in 883 deaths and 547 people being injured. This is routine stuff, yet when was the last time the MSM ran with any of it?
www.thereligionofpeace.com/

And we have had some rather fuzzy thinking by many. Catholic commentator Greg Sheridan, writing in the Australian, said that ’we are all Muslims’. Um, no. We are all human beings made in the image of God, and we certainly should pray for those in Christchurch right now. But making rather foolish statements like this helps no one.

And hyper leftist American politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez immediately sought to politicise this tragedy, writing on Twitter: "At 1st I thought of saying, ’Imagine being told your house of faith isn’t safe anymore.’ But I couldn’t say ’imagine.’ Because of Charleston. Pittsburgh. Sutherland Springs. What good are your thoughts & prayers when they don’t even keep the pews safe?"

Thankfully there was an immediate and powerful reaction to her inanity. Plenty of people castigated her for saying such stupid things, and rightly so. Here are just two of countless tweets offered in response. One person tweeted, "She also uses this to attack people who pray for others. AOC is an opportunistic scumbag." Said another, "She reacts to a Mass Shooting in a Foreign Country with ’Yeah, but like, the NRA is totally bad right?'"

And of course absolutely no one is surprised that the left-wing Prime Minister of New Zealand is already demanding a crackdown on firearms. Jacinda Ardern said this: "Our gun laws will change. Now is the time for change." Yep, happens every time.

Of real interest in this regard is the following headline (assuming it is true): "Man Who Stopped New Zealand Mosque Rampage Turns Out to Be ’Good Guy With a Gun’." The article begins:

We Fight Now or the Socialists Win
[AmThinker] The Democratic Party is no longer a political party; it has become a religion. Its acolytes practice politics with every bit of the religious fervor of Islamic militants throwing a gay man off the roof of a ten-story building because Sharia tells them it’s what he deserves. Make no mistake, every day, our new socialists fight for the right to do the same to us.

After driving two hours to vote against Sandy O, I was told my ballot would be challenged because my signature didn’t match from when I registered as a Conservative in 1976. I offered to show ID, which only engendered anger. ID is not allowed -- too reminiscent of using Voter ID to weed out illegal voters. Of course, the real reason for the challenge was the "C" next to my name. The poll lady was not about to allow a conservative to vote. If they were willing to do that in an election they were guaranteed to win, what will they do next year?

Democrats know Donald Trump will win in 2020 and are planning to cheat to deny him victory. These new socialists are importing a new electorate through open borders and have proposed legislation to allow illegals the vote. They stole seats in the midterms using ballot harvesting and miraculously appearing boxes of "uncounted" Democrat ballots and will do the same in 2020.

The midterms were a trial run for 2020. The left is organized and prepared.

To have any chance, we must behave the way the left behaves, and that means we should take a page from the Democratic playbook.

Caribbean-Latin America
From The Caravan To The ‘Conveyor Belt': Massive Smuggling Operation Brings Migrants To America's Border
[Hot Air] Last year there were multiple caravans made up of thousands of Central American migrants which made their way to the border. Some of the migrants caught rides on trucks or buses part of the way, but a lot of them also walked a significant portion of the journey, making it a long and difficult trip. Today the Washington Post reports smugglers are perfecting a new approach to bring people to the southern border, one which makes the journey a lot more comfortable and treats smuggling almost as a form of tourism.

Once they arrive at the border, they simply line up and wait to cross over and be taken in by authorities. The migrants know that, if they have children with them, they will be released into the U.S. pending a hearing and that is what they are seeking.

Swedish parents keep their daughters home from school after migrants kick, beat and call them
[VOE] The problems with migrants have escalated recently at the school ’Österledskolan’ outside Halmstad in southern Sweden.

Swedish independent journalist Joakim Lamotte has been contacted by parents of children at the school and according to them it is a group of newly arrived migrants who harass their daughters.

The parents argue that the failed integration of the newcomers has led to groupings at the school.

"There are daily threats and violations at the school. Our daughter, who’s in eighth grade has been harassed since the second week of seventh grade. She has been called "Swedish whore" and threatened with violence several times."

"The police have been called many times. Last week, they were called on three occasions. And an ambulance has been called to the school during assaults," says one parent.

"The situation at the school went out of control last week after several major fights, and now parents choose to keep their children at home because of the insecurity."

"Weapons and drugs are common at the school, and the confrontations continue after the school day ends," says another parent.

The parents are highly critical of the school management and believe that they don’t take the problems seriously.

"Right now it is anarchy at the school and they have lost control completely. At the same time, the school management wants to silence what is happening, and blame the events on racism. Racism may occur, but I and many others don’t see that as the problem."

"The reason for this is a difference in treatment, and not integrating the newly arrived young people. On Friday, two girls were subjected to blows and kicks by the newcomers," says a third parent.

According to conversations on various internet forums, some adults mean that the students get into arguments because of racism and that it has caused the conflict between Swedes and newcomers to escalate.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Like ‘Monty Python’: TV details how Hamas ‘accidentally’ fired at Tel Aviv
[IsraelTimes] Low-level member touches rockets, setting them off; fire came as Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, chiefs meeting with incredulous Egyptian mediators; Israel informed of ’mistake’ before launching retaliation.

The two Gazoo rockets that almost brought Israel and Hamas to war late Thursday were fired by accident, Israel’s Channel 13 news reported Friday, when low-level Hamas operatives "messed with" a Gazoo beach rocket launcher that was set up to fire toward Tel Aviv in the event of future conflict.

The report said the farcical chain of events that almost led to war was "like something out of Monty Python," referring to the legendary British comedy group.

The report said news of rocket sirens blaring in Tel Aviv broke as Yihya Sinwar and other Hamas leaders were meeting with an Egyptian delegation trying to mediate eased Israeli economic restrictions on Gazoo.

"You’re meeting with us at the same time as you’re firing on Tel Aviv?" the Egyptians reportedly asked Sinwar in fury.

He told them he knew nothing about the matter, went to check, and established what had happened, the report said.

The Egyptians then called Israeli defense chiefs and relayed what had happened. Israel told the Egyptian delegation to leave Gazoo ‐ they crossed into Israel at the Erez crossing ‐ and then began its retaliatory strikes on Hamas targets.

Had the rocket fire been deliberate, the Israeli response would have been five times heavier, the TV report said. The rocket fire was the first at Tel Aviv since 2014.

The Egyptians reportedly told Hamas that if Hamas responded heavily to the Israeli strikes, there would be a major escalation of conflict. Hamas did fire several rockets across the border.

The TV report said Hamas has incarcerated
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
one or more operatives over the "accidental" fire.

It also said that Hamas had proved that it fully controls the Gazoo border protests by acting to cancel Friday’s protests to ensure relative calm prevailed.

The report noted that Paleostinian Authority sources in Ramallah doubt the Hamas account of accidental fire.

In response to the two rockets fired at Tel Aviv, which did not hit residential areas and caused no direct injury, Israeli war planes hit over 100 Hamas targets in the Gazoo Strip overnight Thursday-Friday. Israel holds Hamas, the Islamist terror group that rules the Strip, responsible for any attacks emanating from the coastal enclave.

The growing assumption among Israeli army officials is that Thursday’s rockets were fired from Gazoo toward Tel Aviv by mistake, a defense official said Friday.

A Hamas official on Thursday told the The Times of Israel that the terror group "has no interest in an escalation" with Israel. The official said he had "no idea" who fired rockets toward Tel Aviv.

The Hamas-run interior ministry called the rocket fire "outside the national consensus" and said it would exact measures against those behind it.

Initial reports had indicated that the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
(PIJ) terror group was responsible for the rocket fire. Hebrew-language media reported that Fajr missiles were launched, which PIJ has in its arsenal.

However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
that terror group also denied that it was behind the fire. PIJ front man Daoud Shehab called the reports "baseless lies and claims."

Hamas and PIJ told Egyptian security officials who were in the Strip to discuss a long-term truce that they were not responsible for the rockets, al-Jazeera reported.

Israel Bombard Gaza With Over 100 Precision Missiles

[ALMASDARNEWS] Israel has bombarded the Gazoo Strip with over 100 missiles following rocket fire into Tel Aviv.

According the Israeli military, at least 100 missiles were fired into the Gazoo Strip early this morning.

At approximately 10:30 P.M last night, sirens sounded in Tel Aviv, Israel. The Iron Dome Air Defense System was filmed firing at two rockets reportedly fired from the Gazoo Strip.

Israel blamed first Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
and later Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, for the rocket fire, however both organizations deny their involvement in the attack.

Israel Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that the Gazoo Strip would be struck hard, beginning the attack at roughly 1:00 A.M and continuing the attack for approximately 3 hours.

A Gazoo Cultural center, ports, boats, agricultural lands and residential homes were all bombarded last night.

According to a report from Raqqa city, an SDF military convoy consisting of five vehicles was moving through the Municipal Stadium area of the lovely provincial capital when the unknown assailants detonated their IEDs last night.

The report said that as a result of this IED attack, at least seven fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces were killed and several others were badly maimed.

The military report would add that an ammunition truck belonging to the Syrian Democratic Forces was also destroyed during last night’s attack.

No group has grabbed credit for this latest attack; however, some activists have accused the mysterious pro-government "Popular Resistance of Raqqa" group.

Survivors tell of Christchurch mosque massacres terror
[AlAhram] Survivors of the Christchurch mosque shootings have recalled how elderly worshippers and children were mercilessly bumped off as a heavily armed attacker methodically targeted Moslems Friday in New Zealand's worst massacre.

At least 49 people died and another 48 were maimed in the assault on two mosques in the South Island city, which Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said marked "one of New Zealand's darkest days."

Anwar Alsaleh was preparing for Friday prayers on the Moslem holy day at the Masjid al Noor mosque in central Christchurch -- where 41 victims were killed -- when a gunman walked in.

Anwar hid in a bathroom and tried to call emergency services as shots rang out, telling stuff.co.nz he heard the gunman say an expletive about Moslems and "We're going to kill you today."

He said he heard people begging for their lives. "They shot them until they died," he said.

At least another seven people died at the Linwood Avenue mosque, about five kilometres away, where Syed Mazharuddin said a man wearing body armour and a helmet opened fire.

The young guy who usually takes care of the mosque ... he saw an opportunity and pounced on him (the gunman) and grabbed his gun," Mazharuddin said.
"Just around the entrance door there were elderly people sitting there praying and he just started shooting at them," he told the New Zealand Herald.

"There was a lady screaming and he shot her point blank in the face."

The attacker live-streamed the attack, with footage showing him firing repeatedly at worshippers as he moves from room to room.

Witnesses at the Masjid al Noor mosque said the shooter was a white male with magazines of ammunition strapped to his legs.

One told Radio New Zealand the gunman was "very calm" during the rampage.

Mirwaiz, an Afghan refugee who did not want to provide his surname, said he came close to death when a bullet grazed his head.

"He started shooting at our side of the room and I lay down on the floor as a bullet grazed my head. A couple of centimetres lower and I would be dead," he told stuff.co.nz, saying he fled from the mosque while the gunman's attention was elsewhere.

Others told of scrambling through broken windows and playing dead among the carnage in a bid to survive.

Carl Pomare was driving past the Masjid al Noor with an employee when he saw people running from the mosque and falling to the ground.

They pulled over and tried to help the injured, including a five-year-old girl.

"We managed to get her into the car of one of the people who was helping and got her to the hospital, she was critical," he told RNZ.

"The guy that my worker was nursing, he passed away in his arms sadly. It was surreal."

There were tales of heroism at the Linwood mosque too, where Syed Mazharuddin said a man wrestled a weapon off the attacker, who cut short his killing spree and ran to a waiting car.

"The young guy who usually takes care of the mosque ... he saw an opportunity and pounced on him (the gunman) and grabbed his gun," Mazharuddin said.

"This guy, the hero, tried to chase but he couldn't find the trigger in the gun... he ran behind him but there were people waiting for (the shooter) in the car and he fled."

International-UN-NGOs
Syria slams 'hypocrisy' of donors
[Rudaw] Syria on Friday accused donors who pledged aid to help its citizens displaced by the country's eight-year war of "hypocrisy" as they continue to impose sanctions on the regime.

International donors -- led by the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
-- meeting on Thursday in Brussels pledged nearly $7 billion in aid for 2019 for civilians caught up in the conflict. But European powers stressed progress on a UN-led grinding of the peace processor must come before they release funds to rebuild Syria -- though they no longer insist Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
must go.

"The hypocrisy of the discourse of the officials of some countries taking part in the Brussels conference is both laughable and angering," a source at the foreign ministry said.

EU sanctions have deprived "the European Union of any credibility when it speaks about helping Syrians and alleviating their suffering," state news agency SANA quoted the source as saying.

The source criticised what it called the "deliberate and systematic politicisation of the humanitarian issue and attempts to use it through conferences like these to continue to exert pressure on Syria and compound the crisis."

It slammed the conference for not inviting the Damascus government, calling it the "main concerned party" in the matter.

Since late 2011, the 28-member bloc has imposed sanctions on 277 Syrian officials including Damascus ministers over their role in the "violent repression" of civilians. It has frozen the assets of some 72 entities and introduced an embargo on Syrian oil, investment restrictions and a freeze on Syrian central bank assets within the European Union. The United States has also imposed a flurry of sanctions against Syrian officials, and had worked to hamper oil shipping to Syria.

Damascus says the sanctions have contributed to a fuel crisis in the country, which on Friday marked the eighth anniversary of its civil war. Numerous rounds of US-backed peace talks have failed to stem the bloodshed, which has killed more than 370,000 people and pushed millions more from their homes.
Another Rudaw article adds:
International donors have pledged around $7 billion in aid for Syria and Syrian refugees who fled the conflict-ravaged country, the European Union announced Thursday, as the war enters its ninth year.

But it was unclear how or when the money would be made available to those in need.

EU Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Christos Stylianides said the donors made a “collective pledge of almost $7 billion” for 2019, short of the $8 billion that the United Nations had hoped to raise for humanitarian aid inside Syria and for refugees living in difficult conditions in neighboring Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq, as well as Egypt.

The EU, the world’s biggest aid donor, announced that it would provide 560 million euros ($633 million) this year, while planning to offer the same amount next year and in 2021.

It also pledged a significant slice of the money — some 1.5 billion euros ($1.7 billion) — for refugees in Turkey. This was previously offered by the EU to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in 2015 to help persuade him to get the Turkish coast guard to stop Syrian refugees and other migrants from setting out for Greece.

Lowcock said this additional 1.5 billion euros “is one of the reasons why it looks as though we’re going to have a good outcome on the pledging.”

The United States pledged more than $397 million in refugee support.

Before and during the conference, the EU continued to refuse to help rebuild Syria until a political settlement has been reached, even though some NGOs believe that stance is a serious obstacle to genuine aid efforts.

Absent from the donor conference are Syrians themselves — no government or opposition representatives have been invited. Civil society groups are concerned that donor countries want to pressure Syrian refugees to return, despite the dangers and uncertainties they face. Lowcock acknowledged that conditions are not yet right “for large-scale returns.”

US to deny visas to ICC officials who probe American troops, Israel
[IsraelTimes] Pompeo says Trump administration ’determined to protect the American and allied military and civilian personnel from living in fear of unjust prosecution’.

The United States will revoke or deny visas to International Criminal Court personnel who try to investigate or prosecute alleged abuses committed by US forces in Afghanistan or elsewhere, and may do the same with those who seeking action against Israel, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Friday.

The Hague-based court, the first global tribunal for war crimes, said it would continue to operate "undeterred" by the US action.

Pompeo made good on a threat delivered last September by US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s national security adviser, John Bolton. The US had already moved against some employees of The Hague-based court, Pompeo said, but he declined to say how many or what cases they may have been investigating.

"We are determined to protect the American and allied military and civilian personnel from living in fear of unjust prosecution for actions taken to defend our great nation," Pompeo said.

He said any wrongdoing committed by American personnel would be dealt with in US military and criminal courts.

The visa restrictions would apply to any ICC employee who takes or has taken action "to request or further such an investigation," Pompeo said.

"These visa restrictions may also be used to deter ICC efforts to pursue allied personnel, including Israelis, without allies’ consent," he said.

The ICC prosecutor has a pending request to look into possible war crimes in Afghanistan that may involve Americans. The Paleostinians have also asked the court to bring cases against Israel.

Speaking directly to ICC employees, Pompeo said: "If you are responsible for the proposed ICC investigation of US personnel in connection with the situation in Afghanistan, you should not assume that you still have or will get a visa or will be permitted to enter the United States."

That comment suggested that action may have already been taken against the ICC prosecutor who asked last year to formally open an investigation into allegations of war crimes committed by Afghan national security forces, Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
and Haqqani network krazed killers, as well as US forces and intelligence officials in Afghanistan since May 2003.

The United States has never been a member of the ICC. The Clinton administration in 2000 signed the Rome Statute that created the ICC but had reservations about the scope of the court’s jurisdiction and never submitted it for ratification to the Senate, where there was broad bipartisan opposition to what politicians saw as a threat to US illusory sovereignty.

When president George W. Bush took office in 2001, his administration promoted and passed the American Service Members Protection Act, which sought to immunize US troops from potential prosecution by the ICC. In 2002, Bolton, then a State Department official, traveled to New York to ceremonially "unsign" the Rome Statute at the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
The ICC said in a statement it was established by a treaty supported by 123 countries and that it prosecutes cases only when those countries failed to do so or did not do so "genuinely." Afghanistan is a signatory.

The court has been hobbled by refusal of the US, Russia, China and other major nations to join. Others have quit, including Burundi and the Philippines.

Baghouz: Three female ISIS jacket wallahs strike SDF screening area, ISIS down to a few hundred turbans & turbanettes
[Rudaw] Suicide bombers attacked an area used by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to screen people surrendering from al-Baghouz on Friday, killing three SDF fighters.

"ISIS terrorists" conducted three simultaneous suicide kabooms at a staging ground for people surrendering from Baghouz to the SDF, Mustafa Bali, the head of the SDF Press Office tweeted on Friday night.

The SDF says the attacks killed six people who were surrendering, maimed others, while killing three SDF fighters and slightly injuring some more.

They also announced that more "ISIS terrorists" from Baghouz had surrendered on Friday.

ISIS is being pounded with US-led international coalition strikes, while simulataneously facing a three-axis ground offensive by the SDF which is supported by the coalition.

They have resorted to suicide attacks on a nearly hourly basis within the past two days.

The SDF is keeping open a corridor for families to evacuate and turbans to surrender. On Thursday, 1,300 people ‐ families and fighters ‐ turned themselves in, Bali tweeted. More than 60,000 people have evacuated the Baghouz area since December, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

SDF spokesperson Kino Gabriel also denied on Friday that it has reached an agreement with Baghdad to hand over thousands of ISIS turbans and family members held in SDF custody.

Baghouz town and its outlying villages lie in Syria's eastern Deir ez-Zor governorate near the border with Iraq. The area in the Middle Euphrates River Valley long has been described as the group's "final stand" by senior US military officials.

enclave in eastern Syria on Friday, a witness and the U.S.-backed forces besieging the area said.

The witness said three women had detonated explosives at a position where people who had left the enclave were surrendering, causing deaths and injuries.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which is besieging the enclave, said there had been a suicide attack, but gave no further details.

Daesh down to last few hundred fighters in eastern Syria

[ALMASDARNEWS] US Special Representative for Syria James Franklin Jeffrey said that the US is appealing to countries to take back ISIS imported muscle and their families captured by the US-backed SDF in Syria, to share the burden of prosecution and re-education.

Jeffrey added that the US believes there are 15,000-20,000 ISIS adherents in Syria and Iraq, with many of them in sleeper cells.

According to him, ISIS is down to a few hundred fighters and less than a square kilometre of land.

"We are just about finished with the campaign along the Euphrates to defeat the last territorial holdings of the Caliphate. They’re down to a few hundred fighters and less than a square kilometre of land," Jeffrey said.

Recently, the SDF has been carrying out operations against ISIS gunnies in Syria, with support from the US-led coalition.

The US-led coalition, which consists of over 70 countries, is conducting military operations against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

The coalition’s operations in Syria are not authorised by the Syrian government nor the UN Security Council (UNSC).

ISIS women join battle in eastern Syria as terrorist group experiences shortage of fighters

(ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) is in a world of trouble in the eastern region of the Euphrates River Valley as they are not only besieged from all sides, but it appears they have a shortage of fighters to press on.

As a result of these circumstances, the Islamic State has allowed women to participate in the defense of the Baghouz Camp against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

ISIS typically prohibits women from fighting on the front-lines; however, due to their current circumstances in eastern Syria, they have made an exception to this rule.

Hamas said to beat Gazans protesting dire economic conditions for second day
[IsraelTimes] Reports of live fire as residents of Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",-ruled enclave burn tires in Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis in rare show of dissent to terror group’s rule.

Paleostinians in the Gazoo Strip erupted into the streets on Friday for the second successive day to protest against Hamas and the dire economic condition in the Strip, with some reports saying the terror group used live fire to put down the demonstrations.

The protests came after a night of violence surrounding the Strip, that was sparked when two rockets were fired at Tel Aviv. In response Israel hit more than 100 Hamas targets and Hamas fired seven more rockets into Israel before the two sides reportedly reached a fresh ceasefire.

The center of the demonstrations was in Deir el-Balah, where Hebrew media reports said protesters burned tires and blocked one of the central Gazoo city’s main roads.

Similar protests were also taking place in Khan Younis in the south of the Strip.

In video from the demonstrations, protesters could be seen throwing rocks as the sound of apparent gunfire is heard in the background.

Quoting the demonstrators, the Ynet news site said they were beaten by security forces loyal to Hamas, the Islamist terror group that rules Gazoo. The Hamas members also reportedly used live fire to disperse the protests.
"Tough love"
There were no immediate reports on the number of injured.

The rare public show of dissent in Gazoo began Thursday as demonstrators erupted into the streets in a number of locations throughout the Strip to protest the cost of living and Hamas rule.

Friday’s protests came after the firing of two rockets from Gazoo late Thursday toward Tel Aviv threatened to spark a serious military escalation between Hamas and Israel before a reported ceasefire was reached, and weekly festivities with Israeli troops along the border were called off for the first time since they began last March.

Channel 12 said many of the those who took part were the same people who normally go to the border protests.

According to Ynet, photographer Osama Kahalut was locked away
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
by Hamas for taking a picture of Friday’s protests. An AFP news hound had said Thursday that journalists were prevented from filming or taking pictures at one of the demonstrations.

The protests had been organized to call for an improvement in the quality of life in Gazoo, which suffers from high unemployment, widespread poverty and poor electricity and water infrastructure.

They were also seen as a challenge to Hamas, an Islamist terror group which has ruled the Strip since 2007.

A statement purporting to be from the organizers said the protests were non-political and against the rising cost of living and taxes in the Strip.

The Paleostinian Non-Governmental Organizations Network, which includes more than 100 charities, said in a statement it "strongly condemned the campaign of arrests and aggression that the security forces launched in Jabaliya in northern Gazoo against the right of dozens of citizens."

It said the protesters were "gathering peacefully to demand an improvement in the life quality in the Gazoo Strip."

Hussein al-Sheikh, a close confidant of Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
, expressed support for the protesters.

"Gazoo is rising up in the face of oppressors," he wrote on Twitter.

Afghanistan
Taliban leader optimistic about Afghan peace
[DAWN] The Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
political chief, who headed the bad boys’ delegation during the most recent round of peace talks with the United States, said on Thursday that he was optimistic and assured Afghans that they had no reason to fear a settlement.

The latest round of talks in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
lasted 16 days and finished on Tuesday, with officials from both sides saying that progress had been made, but there was no agreement on when foreign troops might be withdrawn.

"We are very hopeful for the peace talks, because the latest round had some good dialogues which paved the way to more progress regarding peace in the future," Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar said in an eight-minute audio tape of an interview conducted by the Taliban and posted online.

Making his first public comments since his release last year from a Pak prison, Baradar sought to reassure Afghans who have worried that peace with the Taliban could herald the return of its strict values.

"If [Afghans] think of us like brothers I trust in God that all the problems will be solved," he said, speaking in Pashto.

"I ask all our countrymen to be sure there is no need to worry. Everyone will be treated very well," he added.

During their time in power from 1996 to 2001, the Taliban banned music and girls’ education and carried out public executions in Kabul’s football stadium. Fatefully, they also allowed the late Osama bin Laden
... who is now among the dear departed, though not among the dearest...
’s Al Qaeda to establish a base in the country.

The Taliban’s role in Afghanistan after a possible peace settlement has not been defined and the group has refused to meet representatives of the government led by President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
, regarding it as illegitimate.

At the end of the latest round of talks, US negotiators said progress was made over the eventual withdrawal of foreign troops, and on assurances from the Taliban that they would not allow their homeland to be used again by foreign bad boy groups to mount attacks in other countries.

"We assure the neighbouring, regional and other countries that the upcoming system will not be against anyone; we are not under the influence of anyone, and have no aim of harming anyone," Baradar said.

He also offered a message to Taliban fighters, saying that even though he felt the group had achieved political and military victory, they should remain composed and not become arrogant.

Turkish court convicts 10 for 2016 attack on Kurdish wedding in Gaziantep

(ISIS) was blamed for the attack.

On August 20, 2016 a jacket wallah attacked a Kurdish wedding party in southeastern The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
. Fifty-seven people were killed, more than half of them children. At least 100 people were maimed.

A few hours later, mortars landed on the outskirts of Gaziantep, fired from Jarabulus in northern Syria. Ottoman Turkish forces responded, firing artillery at ISIS positions across the border.

President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
blamed ISIS for the attack and said the suicide bomber was a child aged between 12 and 14.

A few days later, Turkey launched Operation Euphrates Shield ‐ its military offensive in northern Syria aimed at clearing ISIS from its border and preventing Syrian Kurds from expanding their territory west of the Euphrates River.
Really, they’d have been more effective at preventing future attacks had they gone after the ISIS jihadis sheltered in Turkish arms, but that would only kill one bird with that stone, and not the bird important to Sultan Recep Tayip Erdogan I “the much beloved”.
Eight of those convicted on Thursday were given aggravated life sentences on charges of premeditated murder, possession of hazardous materials, and membership in a terrorist organization, Anadolu Agency reported. Two others received nine years in prison for membership in a terrorist organization.

Two people ‐ one of them a minor ‐ were acquitted.

The 2018 figure marks an 11 percent fall from 2017.

The number of pending asylum applications in the EU totaled 878,600 at the end of 2018, down slightly from 927,000 a year earlier.

The findings confirm a downward trend of people entering the EU through irregular crossings. The EU border and coasties agency Frontex estimated around 150,000 people made this type of voyage in 2018, the lowest number in five years.

The number of asylum applications drastically increased in 2015 and 2016, when conflicts in Syria and other Middle Eastern nations escalated and caused hundreds of thousands of people to flee.

At the peak of the migrant movements, the number of first-time asylum-seekers in the EU exceeded 1.2 million. It was Europe's biggest spike in migration since World War II.

The countries of origin for first-time asylum-seekers in the EU in 2018 were:

  • Syria with 80,920 applications

  • Afghanistan 40,990 applications

  • Iraq 39,595 applications

Together, the three nations accounted for almost 30 percent of the total number of people claiming asylum in Europe in 2018.

GERMANY REMAINS PRIME DESTINATION
In percentage terms, the migrants colonists' destinations in 2018 were:
  • Germany ‐ 27.9 percent of migrants colonists

  • La Belle France ‐ 19 percent

  • Greece ‐ 11.2 percent

  • Spain ‐ 9.1 percent

  • Italia ‐ 8.5 percent

Rome, which now has an anti-immigrant party sharing power in a coalition government, recorded the biggest drop in applications last year.

Some politicians and judges in Germany have complained that asylum applications are not made in their first EU state of entry. "Neither European nor national asylum law works. The whole system is dysfunctional," said Dusseldorf Administrative Court President Andreas Heusch earlier this month.

"We do not even manage to return asylum-seekers in the border town of Niederkruchten just a few kilometers to the Netherlands or to Belgium within six months," Heusch said. "Our decisions are without consequences."

LOWEST APPLICATION RATES
Both Hungary and Poland currently have right-wing, populist parties in government, and Hungary has taken a hard-line approach to migration and asylum. They stood out with the lowest number of asylum applications per million residents in 2018:

  • EU-wide average was 1,133 applicants per million population

  • Hungary received 65 applicants per million population

  • Poland received 63 applicants per million population

Judicial probe sought into murder of people involved in Kohistan video scandal
[DAWN] Human rights activists and members of civil society at a meeting on Thursday proposed a judicial inquiry into the Kohistan
...a backwoods district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa distinguished by being even more rustic than is the norm among the local Pashtuns....
video scandal of 2012 which led to killing of eight people, five of them girls.

The meeting, organised by the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR), decided to call the local administration of Kohistan and Abbottabad
... A pleasant city located only 30 convenient miles from Islamabad. The city is noted for its nice weather and good schools. It is the site of Pakistain's military academy, which was within comfortable walking distance of the residence of the late Osama bin Laden....
in the next hearing of the case.

The case came to light in 2012 when reports emerged that an online video of two young men dancing before a group of girls had led to murder of eight people. Five girls, as well as a man dancing in the video clip, and his two brothers, were allegedly murdered on a jirga’s orders.

Although fact-finding missions have been unable to definitively establish whether the murders had taken place, circumstantial and empirical evidence strongly suggest that the killings did take place.

The NCHR said that it had already sought a report from the DCO and DPO of Abbottabad about the recent murder of Muhammad Afzal Kohistani, the brother of one of the boys in the video scandal who had fist made the news public.

The meeting also proposed that for better adjudication of the case, the government must become a party to it.

The meeting decided that the NCHR, along with civil society, would write to the Human Rights Cell of the Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
High Court and request it to take up the matter and become a party to the case.

Speaking on the occasion, NCHR member Chaudhry Shafiq suggested that the matter should be taken up with the prime minister by writing him a letter as the case had been lingering on since 2012 and it had taken lives of several innocent people so far.

The NCHR informed the meeting that it would ask social welfare organizations to help families of the victims and uplift their economic conditions as they had no sources of livelihood.

The participants of the meeting observed that cases of honour killing were frequently reported in the country and there was an urgent need to stop such incidents.

Mr Kohistani was the first person who exposed the jirga system and the honour killing of the five girls in 2012 and brought the video scandal to the national attention. He had said at that time that the girls in the video had been killed by their families and that lives of his two younger brothers, one of them was seen dancing in the video footage, were also in danger. Later, his two brothers were also murdered.

The participants of the meeting argued that had the matter been dealt with wisely from the beginning, many lives could have been saved.

Speaking at the meeting, renowned human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
activist Farzana Bari said that the civil society’s role was disappointing in the case.

Sharing her views on the matter, she said that initially eight people had been nominated in the First Information Report (FIR) after they had confessed to killing the girls. She also criticised the last two such commissions for failing to do justice with the case.

Al-Ghasri warns against plunging Libya's Sirte in new war
[Libya Observer] The front man for al-Bunyan al-Marsous operation Mohammed al-Ghasri warned in a presser on Thursday against plunging Sirte into a new war which will be a lose-lose to all, adding that the city has been secure since the control of the operation forces on it after they had defeated ISIS terrorists.

Al-Ghasri also warned that any attacks on Sirte will be a declaration of war whose results will be catastrophic, adding that the operation forces are ready to foil any assaults.

"We are against any party that uses the army as a means to political ends and isn't logical to talk about having a nonexistent military institution committed to a civilian authority. This issue is best resolved by the constitution." al-Ghasri added.

He also said that the emergency state is still in place and that all military units had been summoned amid advances by the forces under the command of Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
"We have patrolling the city and its surrounding and all forces are in place." al-Ghasri indicated.

Sirte Protection Force announced days ago the state of high alert amid the news about the movements of Haftar's forces toward Sirte.

Haftar's forces announced earlier that they had sent military might to "the targeted place," and many observers say the true motive of Haftar could be advancing on Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, while others say his movements are maneuvers to achieve political gains as the Libyan National Conference's date approaches.

#1  I always wonder if the foreign dictators misconstrue the antics of the leftist dominated MSM to indicate that any Republican president of the US is minutes away from falling to a coup d'état? Or did Pudgy just have the age old problem of bad advice from toadying advisers ... both?

#2  I think Kim's recent behavior was not unexpected. In the past US negotiators had always been willing to settle for cosmetic or fake concessions and were mainly interested in doing what would look best to domestic audiences in the USA. Naturally at every stage he can be expected to test if Trump will do the same.
Trump said no.
This does not end the negotiations, but is a step that had to be experienced if they are to get anywhere. Trump's response was necessary for the possibility of the negotiations actually getting somewhere to stay alive.

Yes. And not just the dictators. They also believe all the rest of it —stupid cowboys who are a danger to all.

I remember endless stories of previously George W-despising entertainers and otherwise coming out from a one-on-one meeting with him gushing about how perceptive, knowledgeable, and intelligent he was.

Police team held hostage; van damaged in Chiniot village
[DAWN] CHINIOT: More than 30 villagers allegedly held a police raiding team hostage, beat up the cops and damaged their vehicle on Thursday at Mouza Bahiwal, a village on the bank of the Chenab, some 25km from here.

Police said on a tip-off constables Nosher and Saifullah riding a cycle of violence conducted a raid to recover illegal weapons. As soon as they entered the village, around 30 suspects, including women, besieged them, snatched their official guns, beat them and locked them in a house.

Constable Nosher sought help and a Kandiwal police mobile carrying six to seven coppers reached the spot. Police said they were also roughed up. However,

Militants attack Tartous for first time this year
[ALMASDARNEWS] For the first time this year, the jihadist rebels have launched long-range missiles towards the Tartous Governorate in Syria’s western region.

or Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham

Since the missile attack, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) has emerged over the northwestern countryside of the Hama Governorate.

A source close to the town of al-Suqaylabiyeh said the Syrian Air Force is stalking the jihadist positions near the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) front-lines.

He added that Arclight airstrikes are likely to commence in the coming hours as the Syrian Air Force retaliates for this missile attack.

Syrian Army preparing for large-scale operation in Daraa
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is preparing to launch a large-scale military operation inside the Daraa Governorate, a source in Damascus told al-Masdar this morning.

According to the military source, the Syrian Elite Republican Guard is preparing to deploy to several areas in the Daraa Governorate that are currently under reconciliation deals with the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA).

The source said Elite Republican Guard units from the 104th, 105th, and 106th brigades, alongside the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th, 7th, and 9th divisions, will deploy to Daraa from Damascus and al-Quneitra if the Free Syrian Army’s sleeper cells do not halt their attacks.

He added that while the Daraa Governorate is technically under the control of the government, many towns currently have no Syrian Arab Army presence.

When the rebel forces surrendered their territories in the Daraa Governorate, they agreed to a reconciliation deal that would allow them to keep their light weapons and patrol their towns.

However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
since early January, the Free Syrian Army’s sleeper cells have been carrying out sporadic attacks against the Syrian Arab Army; this has prompted the latter to threaten to launch a new military operation to clear out these cells from the Daraa Governorate.

Hamas second 'mistaken' rocket fire from Gaza
[Ynet] Gazoo' rulers are facing a twofold problem ‐ protests within the territory under its control, and a lack of progress in talks with Israel; so one may be forgiven for viewing their claim of an accidental launch with some skepticism.

After Thursday night's lack of clarity in the wake over the origins of the two rockets fired from Gazoo at the Tel Aviv area, the IDF on Friday morning stated that the Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbung millipede, terror organization was behind the attack. One of the rockets landed in an unpopulated area and the second apparently disintegrated in midair.

The IDF also assessed that the rockets were fired by mistake. But given that this is not the first time that this has happened, we can allow ourselves to be a little skeptical.

#1  So, how does that work?:
Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system was activated as a result of the launches, which caused no injuries or property damage. It was believed the Hamas rockets landed in open areas.

Police said they found remains of one rocket in an uninhabited area “in central Israel.”

Just after dawn Friday, six more missiles were fired from Gaza toward Israeli border towns but all but one were intercepted by the Iron Dome
system, the military said.

Both Hamas, the Islamist movement that runs Gaza, and its ally Islamic Jihad denied they were behind the rocket fire — but the IDF said they were launched by Hamas.

Badghis: Bala Murghab District Still Under Siege

[ToloNews] The Bala Murghab district in the northwestern Badghis province, which came under attack by Talibs last week, is still under siege by the murderous Moslem group, the district governor and a security official confirmed on Friday.

The roads to Bala Murghab have been blocked by snuffies and according to District Governor Waris, the bandidos murderous Moslems have arrived to a distance of one kilometer from the center of the district.

Bala Murghab is the largest and the most populous district in Badghis.
At least 20 Afghan Army soldiers have bit the dust during the one-week battle in the district, Waris said.

The district governor said at least 11 security outposts and a unit of Afghan Army have fallen to the Death Eaters. At least 28 Afghan Army soldiers have disappeared following the Taliban

attack, he added

"At least 11 security outposts and a unit of Afghan Army have been captured by the Taliban. But reinforcements have been deployed to the area," Waris stated.

"Bala Murghab is an important area. The west and the north of the country will be under threat if it falls to the Taliban," said Akazai, a resident of the district.

Security officials in the district, meanwhile, said the situation is "under control" of government forces and that military operations are ongoing.

"We have launched military operations in certain areas and now the situation is normal in the district. We can target the enemy wherever they are," Badghis Police Chief Khalil-Ur-Rahman Jawad said.

Some security force members on the frontlines assured the Bala Murghab residents that they will "eliminate" the Taliban from the area.

"We have all equipment and we can launch operation either at night or during the day. Security forces do not have any problem and we will chase the enemy," said Bashir Ahmad, a police officer.

"The enemy has come to the province from various parts of the country and wanted to take control of Bala Murghab district. They had a big plan, but we defeated them," said Haji Mullah, a policeman.

US expects North Korea to live up to moratorium on nuclear tests
[DAWN] Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Friday that the United States expects North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
to honour his promise to keep his missile launches and nuclear tests on hold, speaking after a top North Korean official suggested the moratorium was under review and could be lifted.

Pompeo said Kim told President Donald Trump

several times at last month's summit in Vietnam that he would not restart the tests.

"So that's Chairman Kim's word," Pompeo said. "We have every expectation he will live up to that commitment."

Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui said earlier on Friday in Pyongyang that Kim would soon decide if he wanted to continue talks with the US about his nuclear programme and whether he plans to maintain his moratorium on tests.

Astronauts on aborted Soyuz launch to blast off again for ISS
[DAWN] Nasa astronaut Nick Hague and his Russian colleague Alexey Ovchinin, who survived a dramatically aborted Soyuz launch last year, were due to blast off again to the International Space Station on Thursday. The two men will be joined by US astronaut Christina Koch for lift-off from Russia’s Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 1914 GMT.

The launch will be closely watched after the two men’s space journey was cut short in October when a technical problem with their Soyuz rocket triggered a launch abort two minutes into the flight. Both men escaped unharmed.

It was the first such accident in Russia’s post-Soviet history and a major setback for its once proud space industry.

Speaking to news hounds ahead of their six-month mission, flight commander Ovchinin said that some faulty components in the launch vehicle had been found and replaced this week. "Yesterday they found some minor malfunctions," the 47-year-old said on Wednesday.

He insisted that the launch vehicle was in good shape. "There are no problems," Ovchinin said. Hague, 43, said he was looking forward to the flight ‐ his second attempt to get into space.
