1960 Mercury Monterey: You'd be glad you bought it every time you looked at it
[St. Louis Post Dispatch] What a classy looking rig ‐ "dressed to the nines" as they would have said back in the day! I bet the owner turned plenty of heads as he carefully backed that 16-foot, Lone Star runabout down the launch ramp at the river or lake!

That red hue was named Signal Red, one of 19 hues on the generous Mercury palette for 1960. And what better color to accent a bright red than a snow white. Mercury marketers didn’t give a thought to creatively naming the white for 1960, calling it simply "white" as is often done with car color names.

The Monterey, being the entry-level model in 1960, had a standard overhead valve V-8 of 312 cubic-inch displacement and producing 205 horsepower fed by a Holley 2300, 2-barrel carburetor. Adequate, but if the buyer was so inclined, he or she could have chosen one of two larger V-8 engines.

It would be hard to argue that the 1960 Mercury was not a handsome car with pleasing lines. A page out of the 1960 sales brochure stated, “You’ll be glad you bought a Mercury every time you look at it”, which I’m sure was on this owner’s mind as he aimed his Kodak Brownie Starmite at his rig for this photo.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Alleged robber at Bellagio casino dies after trading gunfire with police on Las Vegas strip
[ABC] An attempted robbery at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas ended in a gunfight between police and the suspect late Friday.

An armed man walked into the casino and approached a popular poker cage, where he demanded money, before quickly fleeing out the north entrance, Las Vegas police said in an overnight press conference.

The suspect attempted to carjack someone at the valet but was confronted immediately by four uniformed officers. A second officer returned fire, striking the suspect.

"The officer had his bulletproof vest on, which probably saved his life," Las Vegas Police Department Capt. Nichole Splinter said. He was treated and released, police said.

The suspect was also struck in the chest. The man, who was not identified, died a few hours later, police said.

India-Pakistan
India, Pakistan threatened to unleash missiles at each other
NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - The sparring between India and Pakistan last month threatened to spiral out of control and only interventions by U.S. officials, including National Security Advisor John Bolton, headed off a bigger conflict, five sources familiar with the events said.

At one stage, India threatened to fire at least six missiles at Pakistan, and Islamabad said it would respond with its own missile strikes "three times over", according to Western diplomats and government sources in New Delhi, Islamabad and Washington.

The way in which tensions suddenly worsened and threatened to trigger a war between the nuclear-armed nations shows how the Kashmir region, which both claim and is at the core of their enmity, remains one of the world’s most dangerous flashpoints.

The exchanges did not get beyond threats, and there was no suggestion that the missiles involved were anything more than conventional weapons, but they created consternation in official circles in Washington, Beijing and London.

Reuters has pieced together the events that led to the most serious military crisis in South Asia since 2008, as well as the concerted diplomatic efforts to get both sides to back down.

Australian premier sides with egger against egged senator
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) ‐ Australia’s prime minister on Sunday suggested an anti-Muslim senator should be charged after he slapped a teen who cracked a raw egg over the legislator’s head.

Sen. Fraser Anning has been widely condemned for blaming Muslim immigration for racist attacks on two New Zealand mosques that claimed at least 50 lives.

Will Connolly, the 17-year-old boy who egged Anning, has become an online hero for the incident, which was captured on video.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Sunday took Connolly’s side, telling reporters: "The full force of the law should be applied to Sen. Anning."

Police allege Connolly, who calls himself "Egg Boy" online, assaulted the senator with the egg.

Anning "retaliated and struck the teen twice" before Connolly was dragged to the ground by Anning supporters, a police statement said.

"The incident is being actively investigated by Victoria Police in its entirety," the statement said, including Anning’s actions.

Terror Networks
Post-IS scenario
[Dawn] WHILE once controlling a vast swathe of land in Iraq and Syria, today the bully boyIslamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
’ group is left with a mere sliver of territory in Syria near the Iraqi border. That, too, is under bombardment by the US and its Syrian Kurdish allies, as family members of the faceless myrmidons have left the area in the thousands over the past few weeks. Soon after its rise in 2014, the self-styled caliphate sowed terror in the region under the watch of its ’caliph’ His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...the head of ISIS, or what remains of it, and a veteran of the Abu Graib jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us. So far he has been killed at least four times, though not yet by a stake through the heart...
, throwing an arrogant challenge to governments in the Middle East and sending the international community scrambling for a response. At one point, it seemed as if many other regional states could be vulnerable too, as IS ’provinces’ sprang up in ungoverned spaces in and around the Middle East. And while the US-led coalition, including Arab allies, played a key role in pushing IS back, it cannot be denied that Iran’s support to the Syrian and Iraqi dispensations was instrumental in dislodging the ’caliphate’.

Today, as the end of IS looms, some lessons should be learnt. Firstly, it should be acknowledged that Western adventurism in the Middle East ‐ regime change in Iraq and attempted regime change in Syria ‐ played a major role in creating the ungoverned spaces where the IS thrived. While Iraq under Saddam Hussein and Syria under the Assad clan were by no means model democracies, America’s removal of the Iraqi strongman, and its efforts to get rid of Bashir al-Assad created power vacuums which were filled by the IS and their like ‐ a reminder that nation-building exercises in the Arab/ Moslem world should not be indulged in by the West, as what emerges from such experiments can be much worse than the status quo ante. In fact, it is Middle Eastern governments that must lead efforts for organic change by being inclusive of all sects, religions and political orientations. For example, observers have noted that the alleged discriminatory policies of former Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki helped create support for the IS in disenfranchised communities. And while the IS may be on the verge of defeat, it should be remembered that its ideology lives on and must be countered not just on the battlefield, but intellectually too. The sectarian, atavistic and anti-modern mindset championed by the IS must be challenged by Learned Elders of Islam, Moslem governments and thinkers to ensure that such a movement does not re-emerge and attract disillusioned souls with its promises of an bully boy utopia.

‘Shutting down seminaries post-Pulwama attack may send wrong message’
[Dawn] KARACHI: "Shutting down madressahs in the aftermath of Pulwama is wrong timing. We should have done it anyway but our doing it now has India pointing fingers at us, saying that ’see Pakistain has had to take measures’ to prevent a repeat of the incident," said a retired general on Saturday.

Retired Lt Gen Tariq Waseem Ghazi, who also served as the defence secretary after his retirement from the army, was speaking at a programme on the future of the current stand-off between Pakistain and India at the Pakistain Institute of International Affairs.

"The trigger for the recent escalation between Pakistain and India is Pulwama, and Pulwama had nothing to do with us. It was nurtured and home-grown in India," he said.

Indian spy drone shot down near LoC
[Dawn] MUZAFFARABAD: The Pakistain Army has shot down an Indian spy drone close to the restive Line of Control (LoC) in Azad Jammu and Kashmire (AJK).

"Pakistain Army troops shot down an Indian spying quadcopter in Rakh Chikri Sector along Line of Control," tweeted Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, director-general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media affairs wing, on Saturday.

"The quadcopter had come 150 metres inside Pakistain," added the ISPR chief in his post that included two pictures of the fallen drone.

Rakh Chikri sector is located in AJK’s Poonch division.

There were no further details in the ISPR chief’s tweet.

However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
military sources told Dawn that the drone had been shot down on Friday evening.

"It was brought down with small arm fire from our first post along the LoC," they said.

Earlier, only on Sunday last, a similar spy drone was shot down in Khuiratta sector of AJK’s Kotli district.

Kotli-based official sources had confirmed the downing of the drone in Kot Kotehra village at about 4:30pm, but no blurb was issued by any authority in this regard.

In January this year, Pakistain Army shooters had downed two reconnaissance drones on two consecutive days in two different sectors of Poonch division.

The Indian military uses these drones for aerial photography of Pak posts along the LoC as part of its intelligence gathering operations and target selection before resorting to shelling from across the divide.

Ready for talks with India on JeM chief: China
[Dawn] BEIJING: China said on Friday it was willing to have more discussions with all parties concerned, including India, on blacklisting the head of Jaish-e-Mohammad

(JeM), which grabbed credit for the attack on an Indian paramilitary convoy in held Kashmire in February.

China prevented a UN Security Council committee on Wednesday from blacklisting JeM founder Masood Azhar.

India said it was disappointed at the block, while the United States said it was counter to a goal it shared with China of achieving regional peace and stability.

In a statement faxed to Rooters late on Friday, China’s Foreign Ministry reiterated that the "technical hold" on the blacklisting was to give more time for the committee to have further consultations on the issue.

China hoped the committee’s actions could "benefit reducing the tense situation and protect regional stability", the ministry said, responding to a question about calls for boycott of Chinese products in India.

"China is willing to strengthen communication with all parties, including India, to appropriately handle this issue," it added, without elaborating.

and Al Qaeda sanctions committee to subject Azhar to an arms embargo, travel ban and asset freeze. The 15-member committee operates by consensus. China had previously prevented the sanctions committee from sanctioning Azhar in 2016 and 2017.

Western powers could also blacklist Azhar by adopting a Security Council resolution, which needs nine votes in favour and no vetoes by Russia, China, the United States, Britannia or La Belle France. Already blacklisted by the UN Security Council in 2001, JeM is a primarily anti-India group.

Homs: ISIS carries out new ambush behind Syrian Army lines

(ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) carried out a new ambush behind the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) lines on Saturday, killing four people in the process.

According to a military source in Damascus, an Islamic State sleeper cell snuck into the Sawannah area in eastern Homs this morning, where they would later attack the civilians inside this region.

The source said the Islamic State killed four civilians and then fled back into the desert in order to evade capture by the Syrian Arab Army.

The Islamic State has been carrying out these attacks for several months now, with a recent surge in these ambushes since they lost the al-Safa region in northeast al-Sweida.

US to provide $5 million to White Helmets to continue services: State Dept.
[AlMasdar] The U.S. administration, at the direction of President Donald Trump, will be providing an addition $5 million to the White Helmets
...also known as Syrian Civil Defense, last summer 422 members and their families slipped over the the Israeli border in the Golan Heights, and from thence to Jordan and asylum in the West ahead of the Russian/Syrian army reconquest of Quneitra and Daraa; a similar number remained behind, refusing to be polluted by association with those dreadful Joooooos...
in Syria, the State Department announced on Friday.

“At the direction of the President, subject to congressional approval, the United States intends to provide $5 million for the continuation of the vital, life-saving operations of the White Helmets in Syria and in support of the UN’s International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM) which is charged with assisting the investigation and prosecution of persons responsible for the most serious crimes under International Law committed in Syria since March 2011.

Today, at the third Brussels Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region, Special Representative for Syria Engagement and Special Envoy to the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS Ambassador James Jeffrey publicly announced these contributions. In addition to those made last year, these contributions to the White Helmets and IIIM demonstrate the United States’ commitment and ongoing support for justice and accountability in Syria.

The United States Government strongly supports the work of the White Helmets. They have saved more than 114,000 lives since the conflict began, including victims of Assad’s vicious chemical weapons attacks. With over 2,800 volunteers, they continue to provide search and rescue, emergency response, and early recovery operations helping civilians in areas outside of the control of the regime.

These heroic first responders have the most dangerous job in the world. In addition to operating in an active war zone and in dire humanitarian circumstances, the Syrian regime and Russia deliberately target White Helmets’ centers and volunteers; since 2013 more than 250 White Helmets have been killed—many in so called “double-tap strikes”—and 60 White Helmets’ centers have been damaged or destroyed by Russian and regime airstrikes and the regime. Despite these dangers, the White Helmets provide these services based on strict humanitarian principles and have become a symbol in Syria and world-wide for these courageous values,”

the statement read.

Why Is Turkey's Presence In Afrin, Syria Any Different Than The West Bank?
[Jpost] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
’s continued role in Afrin, a year after military occupation began in March 2018, is under spotlight as US State Department and UN highlight abuses

Military occupation. Stolen olives. Checkpoints. Accusations of theft of property, land confiscation, demographic change and settlers. These are claims usually leveled at Israel’s role in the West Bank, but in the last year Turkey and Syrian groups it backs have been accused of similar violations in northwestern Syria. The area of Afrin, once a mostly Kurdish and peaceful region during many years of Syrian civil war, was plunged into conflict in January 2018 by a Ottoman Turkish military operation and attacks by Syrian rebel groups.

Trump's national emergency declaration opposed by majority of Americans, polls find
[The Independent] Numerous polls suggest Mr Trump's decision was popular among his Republican base. But his decision to use executive authority to fund a wall along the southern border is opposed by a clear majority of the public.

That is reflected in seven polls taken from early January to early March. By roughly a 2-to-1 margin, Americans oppose Mr Trump's decision to use emergency powers to build a border wall. That is a wider margin than the Senate resolution to overturn Mr Trump's declaration of national emergency, which was passed by a 59-to-41 vote margin.

The most recent poll on the issue comes from Monmouth University and was in the field between 1-4 March.

Monmouth found 65 per cent of Americans disapproved of Mr Trump "declaring a national emergency in order to use funding designated for the US military to build a wall along the Mexican border."

Multiply that by several thousand a year. Further, if you are killed and/or wounded by a violent illegal alien you are likely to end up either in the morgue or the emergency room. Multiply that by several thousand a year. Finally, if your two-party democracy is turned into a one-party socialist hell-hole by illegal aliens who illegally vote, that's an emergency. Europe
Berlin blocks appearance by convicted Palestinian terrorist
[IsraelTimes] BDS event in German capital called off after authorities cancel visa for speaker Rasmea Odeh, who spent 10 years in jail for deadly Jerusalem supermarket bombing.

Berlin has blocked an appearance by convicted Paleostinian terrorist Rasmea Odeh, who had been scheduled to speak at a conference on "Paleostinian Women Fighting for Liberation."

Following protests, the city’s department for interior affairs announced late Friday afternoon that they had barred Odeh from speaking in the city and cancelled her visa, on the grounds that the political activities of a non-citizen can be limited or prohibited if these activities break German law or endanger the peace.

The venue also has cancelled its rental for the event that was organized by the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Odeh, a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine, was found guilty in 1970 of participating in the 1969 murder of two Jewish students, Leon Kanner and Eddie Joffe in an attack on a Jerusalem supermarket.

The co-organizers of the Berlin event were the Samidoun network of activists, affiliated with the PFLP and Hirak ‐ the Paleostinian Youth Movement, also tied to the PFLP.

The PFLP is designated by Israel, the US, the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
and others as a terrorist organization.

Israel placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
Odeh for life for her role in the bombing, but she was released in a prisoner exchange with the PFLP in 1980 and immigrated to the United States. She has said her confession to the bombing was the result of severe torture by Israeli security forces.

Odeh obtained her US immigrant visa in 1994 and her citizenship in 2004. In both applications, she failed to disclose her arrest and convictions in the bombings. She pleaded guilty to falsifying her immigration applications and was deported to Jordan in September of last year.

Odeh served as the longtime associate director at the Arab American Action Network in reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
before her deportation.

A planned protest against her appearance was to be held in Berlin despite the event’s cancellation, its organizer told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.

Odeh’s planned appearance had triggered a storm of protest among Jewish and politicians. The Central Council of Jews in Germany had issued a statement condemning the invitation to Odeh.

Council president Josef Schuster told the Taz newspaper in Berlin that he was "appalled that a convicted Paleostinian terrorist who killed and injured Israelis is permitted to appear in Berlin."The public appearance of someone sentenced for murder, terrorism and immigration fraud "legitimizes anti-Semitism at a time when we should be condemning it," US Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell said in an interview with Fox News.

Also weighing in against Odeh’s appearance were Berlin’s mayor, Michael Muller, and Hellmut Königshaus, head of the German-Israel Society.

U.S. Ambassador Causes Germany To Deport Pflp Terrorist From Country

[Jpost] The German government canceled an event on Friday with a convicted Paleostinian terrorist who murdered two Israeli students, following a strongly worded statement from US Ambassador Richard Grenell that was prominently featured in the nation’s daily newspapers.

Berlin’s department for interior announced in a statement on Friday that they barred Rasmea Odeh from speaking in the capital and revoked her visa. The German authorities said Odeh must immediately leave the Schengen Area that is comprised of 26 European nations.

The Washington Free Beacon’s Adam Kredo reported on Thursday that Grenell “petitioned German leaders on behalf of the Trump administration to ban Odeh from entering the country.” Kredo noted: “Odeh was reportedly invited to speak in Berlin on Friday by the ‘pro-BDS group Jewish Voice for a Just Peace in the Middle East, which is a supporter of the alliance of BDS groups.’”

Jewish Voice for a Just Peace in the Middle East defended Odeh on its Facebook page against the alleged defamation campaign she experienced in Germany.

Hamas violently disperses demonstrators on 3rd day of internal protests
[IsraelTimes] Ramallah asks Egypt to intervene; Fatah official: ’This is not the occupation, it’s Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, gangs terrorizing Gazoo’; conflicting reports on alleged self-immolation by one man.

A senior Paleostinian official said Saturday that the Ramallah-based leadership has asked Egypt to pressure Hamas over the violent suppression of protests during a third day of demonstrations in Gazoo against the terror group and the dire economic conditions in the enclave.

PLO Executive Committee member Wasel Abu-Youssef told the Times of Israel that the Paleostinian representative to Egypt and the Arab League
...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing...
, Diab al-Louh, has called for an emergency high-level meeting of the regional organization to discuss the situation in Gazoo. When asked if the meeting would discuss the violent suppression of protests, Abu Yusef said that it would.

According to Paleostinian media reports, Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
has also been asked to intervene in the escalating violence.

Paleostinians in the Gazoo Strip erupted into the streets on Saturday for the third successive day.

Unverified footage appeared to show a protester setting himself alight. According to Channel 12 news, Ahmed Abu Tahn self-immolated after he was unable to pay his rent and was evicted from his home. But after looking into the matter, the Al Mezan rights group in Gazoo told the Haaretz newspaper the film was not a new one, and that no such incident had occurred on Saturday. The veracity of the video could not be independently confirmed.

In response to a video of Hamas forces suppressing demonstrations, a close confidant of Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
tweeted his outrage.

"This is not the Israeli occupation forces!!"Fatah Central Committee member Hussein al-Sheikh said. "It is the Hamas gangs that are terrorizing and suppressing the hungry in the Gazoo Strip."

The Ynet news site reported that at least 80 demonstrators affiliated with the Fatah movement had been nabbed
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
over the past 24 hours.

Paleostinian rights groups said Hamas briefly detained four of their researchers as it dispersed protests.

On Friday, reports from the coastal enclave said Hamas used live fire to put down demonstrations.

The center of Friday’s demonstrations was in Deir el-Balah, where Hebrew media reports said protesters burned tires and blocked one of the central Gazoo city’s main roads. Similar protests also took place in Khan Younis in the south of the Strip. In video from the demonstrations, protesters could be seen throwing rocks as the sound of apparent gunfire is heard in the background.

Quoting the demonstrators, Ynet said they were beaten by security forces loyal to Hamas. There were no immediate reports on the number of injured.

Hamas detains rights workers as it disperses Gaza protests

[Ynet] Paleostinian rights groups say Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", briefly detained four of their researchers as it dispersed protests in Gazoo against recent tax hikes.

Two researchers from the al-Mezan rights group, one from the Paleostinian Center for Human Rights and one from al-Dameer were held for a few hours before being released. Online videos show Hamas forces raiding homes, attacking protesters with clubs and firing into the air.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Christopher Steele admitted using posts by 'random individuals' on CNN website to back up Trump dossier
[Washington Examiner] Former British spy Christopher Steele admitted that he relied on an unverified report on a CNN website for part of the "Trump dossier," which was used as a basis for the FBI's investigation into Trump.

According to deposition transcripts released this week, Steele said last year he used a 2009 report he found on CNN's iReport website and said he wasn't aware that submissions to that site are posted by members of the public and are not checked for accuracy.

A web archive from July 29, 2009 shows that CNN described the site in this manner: "iReport.com is a user-generated site. That means the stories submitted by users are not edited, fact-checked, or screened before they post."

In the dossier, Steele, a Cambridge-educated former MI6 officer, wrote about extensive allegations against Donald Trump, associates of his campaign, various Russians and other foreign nationals, and a variety of companies ‐ including one called Webzilla. Those allegations would become part of an FBI investigation and would be used to apply for warrants under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

During his deposition, Steele was pressed on the methods he used to verify allegations made about Webzilla, which was thought to be used by Russia to hack into Democratic emails.

When asked if he discovered "anything of relevance concerning Webzilla" during the verification process, Steele replied: "We did. It was an article I have got here which was posted on July 28, 2009, on something called CNN iReport."

How about.... that's where I was told the required anonymous input would be posted and on what day.

If we were to use the same "standard" for the quality checking of allegations then they could add my "accusation" to a dossier and start surveillance of all his comms.

Although my accusation has a greater degree of checkability as this site is not as anonymous as where he got the shitposts/sorry made up crap he put in the dossier.

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
California drought-free for the first time in 7 years
[Aljazeera] The state of California has been declared drought-free for the first time in more than seven years.

Generous winter rains have filled the state's reservoirs and the Sierra Nevada snowpack is now 50 percent higher than average.

This is the first time since mid-December of 2011 that the entire state has been classified as being free of drought, and the moisture deficit is not severe enough to cause social, environmental or economic hardship.

The current picture marks a major improvement from just one year ago, when nearly 70 percent of California was still classified as suffering from moderate to severe drought. And only three years before that, the Sierra snowpack had dwindled to virtually zero.

Meteorologists say extremes of weather, swinging from drought to deluge, will become increasingly common as the climate continues to change.

Although California is now drought-free, many other parts of the United States are not as lucky. Currently, the worst conditions are in New Mexico, where the drought is in its severest category: exceptional. In a drought of this magnitude, widespread crop losses and shortages of water in reservoirs and streams are expected.

Jobs, jobs, jobs...latest job openings data show that Trump knows what it's about
[American Thinker] With the press largely focused on the college cheating scandal and cooking up new ways to Blame Trump for the mosque massacre in New Zealand, some real news is going largely unnoticed: "US Job Opening[s] Soar To All Time High: 1.3 Million More Than Unemployed Workers."

Imagine a jobs report like that coming out during the Obama years. Imagine such a report coming out during a hypothetical Hillary Clinton administration...

Imagine it coming under the administration of one of the 15 lockstep socialists running for president on the Democratic Party ticket.

It just wouldn't happen if, God forbid, one of them should win.

The job creation is so high under President Trump's tax cut and deregulatory regimen that there are more jobs than workers to fill them. The quitting rate is higher, too, and that means workers are finding higher-paid jobs, not just the one they have now, which means it's a worker's market now. President Trump took some flak for advising would-be illegal migrants to come here legally on the grounds that Americans should get first dibs on jobs, but given this labor shortage, it was obvious this was the reality out there. And yes, illegal immigration is surging. Many are coming here for jobs.

When was the last time workers can ever remember having not just a job, but their choice of jobs?

IDF releases photos of Hamas posts flattened in response to rocket fire
[IsraelTimes] Targets in Gazoo include headquarters where terror group directed operations in West Bank as well as a compound used by its special naval force.

The Israeli military said a massive sortie carried out in Gazoo last week in response to rocket fire on Tel Aviv flattened a "terror headquarters" of the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, group and naval posts belonging to the group, among other sites.

Pictures released by the military early Sunday showed extensive damage to several of the sites hit during the round of Arclight airstrikes early Friday, which came after two rockets were fired at Tel Aviv in what Israeli authorities now apparently believe to have been an accident.

Among the sites hit were a headquarters in the Rimal neighborhood of Gazoo City used by the terror group to coordinate its operations in the West Bank. The army said such operations included "directing terror attacks, building terror infrastructure, transferring money and providing logistical assistance in attacks against Israeli citizens."

Another two sites targeted during the IDF air raid early Friday morning were military outposts belonging to Hamas’s special naval force The sites were also used to produce and store weapons used by the reconnaissance unit, the army said.

Before and after aerial photos of both released by the army appeared to show the buildings reduced to rubble.

On Friday, the army said it had carried out some 100 airstrikes in Gazoo, in one of the heaviest bombardments in years.

The army said at the time that it hit an underground manufacturing site of standard-grade rockets in the Gazoo Strip, as well as a military training site that the IDF said served as Hamas’s drone center in the south of the enclave.

A position belonging to Hamas’s military wing, near its leader Ismail Haniya’s family home on the outskirts of Gazoo City, was damaged, with rubble strewn across the road, an AFP journalist said after the strikes.

Four Paleostinians were maimed in the Gazoo strikes, the enclave’s Hamas-run health ministry said.
The Jerusalem Post adds:
Local Paleostinian media in Gazoo said that Israeli naval vessels also took part in the strikes off the coast of Rafah. According to the IDF, The naval power infrastructures are held in these compounds and are used to create weapons for the benefit of the force.

[Breitbart] Presidential candidate Robert "Beto’:O’Rourke has confirmed he participated in the controversial hacker group "Cult of the Dead Cow," at least while he was a teen.

O’Rourke may not have participated in breaking into computers, as no evidence has surfaced to that effect, according to Menn’s Friday article in Reuters.

Menn wrote that at least 12 members of the "Cult of the Dead Cow" hacker group have come forward about O’Rourke’s membership, "Members of the group have protected O’Rourke’s secret for decades, reluctant to compromise his political viability."

Bernie Sanders Captures Leprechaun To Confiscate Gold For Redistribution
[Babylon Bee] BURLINGTON, VT‐In an attempt to get into the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders camped out in the woods near one of his homes to try to catch a leprechaun.

Espying a greedy little fellow hoarding a pot of gold near the end of a rainbow late in the morning, Sanders leaped out of a tree and grabbed the frightened mythological man by the collar, immediately beginning to rant about how the leprechaun is harming society by keeping the gold to himself. The leprechaun quickly teleported a few feet away and began cackling at the elderly senator, who shook his fist and waved his cane in the little guy's direction.

"You give that pot of gold to ol' Bernie here for redistribution right away, you little weasel!" Sanders was heard shouting as he pursued the small man clothed in green across a field. "And I don't want any of your tricks---every last gold coin must be surrendered to me for the greater good!"

Finally, the leprechaun grew tired of hearing Sanders rant about the means of production and the plight of the proletariat, and so handed over the pot of gold just to shut him up.

At publishing time, sources had confirmed that Sanders would, of course, be skimming a little off the top for himself as compensation for his selfless redistribution services.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinians rip doors off disputed building on Temple Mount
[IsraelTimes] Protesters also raise national flag over the Gate of Mercy amid soaring tensions over access to shuttered mosque.

Paleostinian worshipers on Friday ripped the doors off a building on the Temple Mount complex at the heart of recent tensions between Israeli security forces and the Islamic Waqf, which acts as the custodian of the volatile holy site on behalf of Jordan and the Paleostinian Authority.

The Paleostinian protesters removed the doors of the Gate of Mercy, or Bab al-Rahma, after Friday prayers, despite instructions from the Waqf, the Temple Mount custodian and the head sheikh, all of whom had urged calm.

A group of protesters also raised the Paleostinian flag on the roof of the building, and it was then removed by police, according to the Haaretz daily.

The Gate of Mercy was sealed by Israeli authorities in 2003 because the group managing the area had ties to Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, and it has been kept closed to stop illegal construction work there by the Waqf.

Israeli officials believe the work carried out by the Waqf, which refused to allow any Israeli observers, has led to the destruction of antiquities from periods of Jewish presence in the area.

The Waqf has repeatedly challenged the closure, convening and staging prayer-protests in the area that often erupted into festivities with police.

Last month, the Waqf reopened the site and Paleostinian worshipers have begun to use it as a mosque, despite Israeli attempts to keep the area sealed.

Since then, several low-level festivities have broken out between Paleostinian worshipers and Israeli security forces. On Thursday, police sealed off the entire Temple Mount after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at an officer.

High-level Israeli and Jordanian officials have been holding talks in the hope of defusing the situation. Last week, Israeli officials traveled to Jordan for meetings, and Jordanian officials have also visited Jerusalem, according to Israeli reports.

The talks were ongoing and the sides have yet to come to an agreement, the Haaretz daily reported this week.

Jordan has suggested that the site be closed for long-term renovations. While the Israelis agree, they insist it must first be closed without renovations taking place, as a statement of Israeli authority. This disagreement has reportedly stood in the way of a deal.

New Mexico state Senate votes to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day
[The Hill] The New Mexico state Senate voted to approve legislation to abolish Columbus Day and replace the national holiday with Indigenous Peoples Day.

The state Senate passed the legislation, also known as House Bill 100, in a 22-15 vote on Friday, the Albuquerque Journal reports.

The bill, which has already been approved by the state House, now heads to the desk of New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) for consideration.

Proponents of the measure argue that the passage of the bill, which was sponsored by Democratic state Reps. Derrick Lente and Andrea Romero, would better reflect the state’s culture.

According to 2017 U.S. Census data, more than 12 percent of the state’s population is comprised of Native Americans.

The report comes months after San Francisco’s primary legislative body voted to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day in an effort to recognize the "historic discrimination and violence" against Native Americans in the U.S.

Lawmakers in Kansas are also considering abolishing Columbus Day and replacing the holiday with Indigenous Peoples Day.

If passed, House Bill 100 would make New Mexico the fourth state in the country to enact the such legislation.

Russia supplied Iran with advanced phone hacking tech — Israel TV report
[IsraelTimes] So-called ’zero-click’ technology allows hackers to access victims’ data without any action by the target; newspaper says it was used to hack Gantz’s phone.

Russia recently supplied Iran with advanced technology that allows remote hacking of cellphones without the victim taking any action, Channel 12 news reported Saturday.

Currently, most phone hacking relies on Trojan horse malware that downloads itself and infects the device after the user is baited to click a link or open a file.

The report, citing cyber experts, said the so-called zero-click technology allows hostile hackers to quietly access sensitive systems, without any interaction by the user.

The report came three days after news broke that Blue and White party leader Benny Gantz’s cellphone was hacked by Iran.

Yaniv Balmas, head of cyber research at Check Point Software Technologies, told the Globes newspaper on Saturday that it seemed Gantz’s phone was hacked "with a zero-click type attack."

In such attacks, he said, "it’s enough for the attacker to know the target’s phone number. If, for instance, the attacker knows the target uses an iPhone, and he knows of a vulnerability in a specific component of the iPhone’s cellular modem... it’s enough to send a text to the phone in order to gain control of it."

Channel 12 news first reported Thursday that Gantz, a former military chief, was approached five weeks ago by officials from the Shin Bet security service who informed him that his personal phone had been hacked by Iran following his formal entry into politics in December.

The Shin Bet agents reportedly told Gantz that hackers in Tehran got hold of his personal details and text messages and that he should assume that any sensitive information in the phone could be used against him in the future. They told him to proceed as he saw fit.

Blue and White, and Gantz himself, have stressed no sensitive information was on the phone and noted it was hacked four years after he retired as army chief of staff.

In January, Shin Bet chief Nadav Argaman warned that a foreign state "intends to intervene" in Israel’s upcoming elections on April 9.

Though the comments were made in a public forum, the military censor placed a gag order on much of what Argaman said.

Days later, Russia said it was not planning to interfere in the polling, with a Kremlin front man saying Moscow "has never interfered in elections in any country."
Then his lips fell off.

Anti-Assad protesters clash with police during demonstration in Berlin (VIDEO)
[AMN] Protesters clashed with police in Berlin on Saturday, after a demonstration against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad turned chaotic.

Police detained several protesters who broke through a police cordon that was guarding counter-demonstrators near the Russian embassy.

Around 250 people joined the march in the German capital, marking the eighth anniversary of the Syrian uprising under the pouring rain, waving banners and shouting slogans like ’Assad must go,’ and ’Out with Putin,’ among others.

Cities such as Damascus and Homs experienced major civil unrest, starting on 15 March 2011 and coming to an end by late July.

Richard Fernandez: New Zealand Attack Shows Us That Tribal Score-Settling Has Infected the West
[PJ] he attack on the mosques, like Anders Breivik's murderous rampage in idyllic Norway, happened in New Zealand, ironically rated in 2017 the safest country in the world after Iceland. It's a sad reminder that no place is exempt from ethnic conflict. Et in Arcadia ego sum, whether Arcadia is Africa, Burma, or Western China. Wherever populations mix under pressure there's the potential for volatility. As a New York Times article reminded its readers in 2014, the Rwandan massacre had its roots in the population policies of European governments.
In 1884, 130 years ago, European powers gathered in Berlin for a conference under Chancellor Otto von Bismarck that historians depict as setting the rules for the scramble for Africa among outside powers that soon fractured it into a jigsaw of new nations.

... the impact of this colonial cartography lingers in profound sensitivities at the legacy of the outsiders’ incursions into a continent that did not invite them to define its frontiers or impose their definitions of nationhood.

If tribal patchworks were the legacy of 19th-century European imperialism, then multicultural populations are the consequence of the global world. Economic advantage demands them but there are dangers lurking in those arrangements.

For example, the inclusion of the Muslim parts of Mindanao into the predominantly Christian Philippines under the Treaty of Paris caused mischief beginning with the U.S. vs Moro Wars that continues to this day. After the Muslim insurrection in the early 1970s, the mayhem became chronic, with gangs shooting up mosques, rebels kidnapping school children, and warlords killing journalists en masse. The latest chapter, the Battle of Marawi, had hardly ended before the NYT was warning that Mindanao may be the next stronghold of ISIS. It's now a conflict whose end no one knows.

US Air Force says Boeing has 'severe situation' after FOD (Foreign Objects and Debris) found on refueling planes
[CNN] "We are doing more stringent inspections so we feel confident before we accept any plane from Boeing," Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek told CNN.

While the discovery of trash and tools in the planes is not a result of design flaw, or a specific safety concern, Air Force officials privately told CNN they were aware that the timing of the problem is exceptionally sensitive for Boeing after the grounding of its 737 Max jet.

Roper emphasized to reporters that while the issue of the material and objects -- known as Foreign Object Debris, or FOD -- being left inside an aircraft as it comes off the production line is not a design or safety risk, it is a matter of great concern to the military.

"FOD is really about every person, everyone in the workforce, following those procedures and bringing a culture of discipline for safety," Roper said.

New Zealand mosque attack suspect visited Croatia, police say, death toll rises to 50
[AlAhram] The Australian holy warrior suspected of carrying out the New Zealand mosque massacre visited Croatia just over two years ago, police told the Hina news agency on Saturday.

Brenton Tarrant was charged in court on Saturday, with Sherlocks now trying to piece together how his holy warrior views managed to go undetected by the intelligence services.

"The police have information about the movements of this person in December 2016 and January 2017," a spokeswoman for Croatia police said.

Earlier on Saturday, local media said Tarrant had visited Zagreb during that period as well as several other towns on Croatia's Adriatic coast, including Zadar, Sibenik and Dubrovnik. Croatian Sherlocks are looking into the reasons for his visit, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic told HRT national television.

On Friday, Bulgaria also began investigating a recent visit by Tarrant between November 9-15 last year, claiming he wanted "to visit historical sites and study the history of the Balkan country," chief prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov said. He had also made a short visit to the Balkans from December 28-30, 2016, travelling by bus across Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, they said.

Media reports said the gunman had listened to a Serbian song about convicted war criminal Radovan Karadzic en route to the massacre, and also had the names of two historical Serbian and Montenegro leaders written in Cyrillic on his gun.

Ethnic hatreds fuelled the bloody dissolution of Yugoslavia in the 1990s, sparking wars that left 130,000 dead and displaced millions as borders were redrawn.
From another Al Ahram article:
Tarrant, handcuffed and wearing a white prison suit, stood silently in the Christchurch District Court where he was remanded without a plea. He is due back in court on April 5 and police said he was likely to face further charges.
An Nahar adds:
Prosecutors in Bulgaria on Friday launched a probe into a recent visit to the country by an Australian man alleged to be the gunman who killed 49 people in attacks on two New Zealand mosques.

The suspected assailant visited Bulgaria from November 9-15 last year claiming he wanted "to visit historical sites and study the history of the Balkan country", Bulgaria's public prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov said, adding that the inquiry would establish if this was "correct or if he had other objectives."
Another An Nahar article adds:
Australia has banned right-wing commentator Milo Yiannopoulos from touring the nation over his social media response to the Christchurch mosque shootings. Australian Immigration Minister David Coleman said in a statement that Yiannopoulos' social media comments are "appalling and foment hatred and division."

Coleman didn't specify the comments he was referring to.

Yiannopoulos said on Facebook that attacks like Christchurch happen because "the establishment panders to and mollycoddles extremist leftism and barbaric, alien religious cultures."

Lawmakers within Australia's conservative government had been quarreling in recent weeks on whether the firebrand commentator should be allowed to tour Australia this year.
From the Jerusalem Post:
Brenton Tarrant had decorated his rifles with names of other far-right Lions of Islam and those that it appears he considers heroes of history who fought Moslems.

A TRT investigation shows that he included the name of Alexandre Bissonnette on his rifle. In 2017, Bissonnette murdered six people at a mosque in Canada. He also added Anton Lundlin Pettersson ‐ a student who murdered two migrant children in Sweden ‐ onto the stock of the gun. According to Italia’s The Local, he also added the name Luca Traini onto one of his clips of ammunition. In 2018, Traini injured six people in a racially motivated attack on black people in Macerata.

Death toll rises to 50 as New Zealand mourns mosque massacre victims

[IsraelTimes] Two other suspects arrested not connected to Brenton Tarrant’s assault on Christchurch mosques, police say, amid outpouring of grief in shaken nation

The death toll from horrifying shootings at two mosques in New Zealand rose to 50, police said Sunday, as Christchurch residents flocked to memorial sites and churches across the city Sunday to lay flowers and mourn the victims.

The additional death was discovered as bodies were being removed from the mosques in the southern city, police said, with forensic officers from across New Zealand flying into the city to assist with the identification process.

Another man arrested on Friday will appear in court on Monday on charges that are “tangential” to the attacks, though he was not believed to be involved in the shootings, Police Commissioner Mike Bush told reporters Sunday.

Two other suspects arrested at a police cordon during the attacks when a firearm was found in their car were not directly involved in Tarrant’s assault, he added. One of the two, a woman, has been released, and a man remains in custody on firearms charges, Bush said.

“At this moment, only one person has been charged in relation to these attacks,” he said.

Fifty people were wounded in the carnage, and doctors have worked around the clock to treat the 36 people still hospitalized for gunshot wounds and other injuries sustained in the attacks.

Muslims make up just one percent of New Zealand’s population.

Migrant Boats Sinks Off Morocco Coast
[AnNahar] Moroccan authorities said Friday the navy had rescued 21 people after a boat carrying migrants colonists sunk in the Mediterranean, with a rights group saying 45 others had drowned in the incident.

Tangiers-based association Caminando Fronteras said survivors and relatives reported "45 people bit the dust" Thursday after the vessel hit trouble as it headed towards Spain.

The group's director Helena Maleno wrote on Twitter that there were a total of 67 people onboard the boat and that seven women were among the survivors.

"Only one body has been recovered," she said.

A senior Moroccan official refused to confirm the corpse count given by Caminando Fronteras, but said the navy had rescued 21 people.

A second human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
organization, AMDH-Nador, confirmed to AFP that one body had been taken to a local hospital after the navy rescue operation.

In the wake of the incident the Spanish coastguard said they had offered to help Morocco and sent a helicopter to assist.

The issue of migrants colonists making illegal crossings to Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
is highly sensitive in Morocco and the authorities are often cagey about giving details.

In January Caminando Fronteras reported that 50 migrants colonists from Mauritania drowned off the Moroccan coast, but the authorities never confirmed the deaths.

The NGO alerts naval authorities to migrant boats in distress at sea as they attempt the crossing to Europe.

Activist Maleno said this month that a Moroccan court has dropped human trafficking charges against her, saying it sets a precedent for her struggle to save lives at sea.

The International Organization for Migration says over 2,200 people died trying to make the perilous sea journey to Europe in 2018.

Moroccan authorities say they stopped 89,000 people from sub-Saharan Africa and Morocco from making the journey during the year and rescued 29,715.

Tennessee's Historic Lawsuit to Stop Migrant Invasion Will Be Heard in Appeals Court Next Week
[Big League Politics] Although the tea party is far past its apex, the fights they started are still ongoing and driving the national conversation. A revolutionary Tenth Amendment lawsuit in Tennessee that has the potential to restore the rights of states to reject dangerous migrants from third-world countries is ready to be heard in the court of appeals.

"This case seeks to protect and vindicate the fundamental constitutional status of the State of Tennessee as a sovereign entity not subject to unconstitutional coercion and commandeering by the federal government," the lawsuit reads.

"This suit is not intended to inflict harm on immigrants or refugees from any nation. Rather, this is a suit that seeks to preserve the constitutional relationship between the federal government and the states as mandated by our nation’s founders," another excerpt from the lawsuit reads.

Attorney John Bursch of the Thomas More Law Center (TMLC) will be representing the state of Tennessee and its General Assembly next week on behalf of state sovereignty and national security. He will be facing a 3-judge panel of the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. They aim to reverse coercive federal mandates forcing states to fund the refugee resettlement program, which they believe disregards the Tenth Amendment of the Constitution.

Terror Networks
The future of ISIS and Sunni jihadism
Forty-five minute video interview in English can be watched at the link.
[Rudaw] Hassan Hassa, the director of Nonstate Actors Program at the Center for Global Policy, speaks with Rudaw news hound Roj Eli Zalla during The Washington Perspective on March 15, 2019.

As Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) supported by the US-led international coalition continue to squeeze Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) fighters into their last stronghold in Syria of al-Baghouz, the group has effectively lost its "caliphate" but will return to insurgency tactics.

"Nobody expected this many people to stay until the end in that piece of land between Iraq and Syria," said Hassan Hassan.

He also contributed underestimations of remaining ISIS fighters to a "lack of visibility" among the coalition.

"They thought ISIS is already finished after Raqqa," Hassan said, referring to the international coalition.

He argued even ISIS was unsure whether Baghouz would be the spot of their final battle against the SDF and coalition.

Hassan mentions that ISIS was active on multiple fronts in southern Hasaka and there were even talks of an Iraqi Security Forces offensive across the border.

"I don't think ISIS knew Baghouz would be the last stand, but they prepared for this kind of scenario in different areas. So if wouldn't have been Baghouz, it would have been probably either Hajin or Sousa or Shafa..." he surmised.

Hassan predicts the next phase for ISIS is "insurgency" similar to conditions in 2014.

Shift in Sunni extremism

Hassan argues that jihadism by Sunnis has become more localized, offering examples in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan and Libya.

"What happened from 2011 until now is we started to see the jihadis and jihadists groups across the region ‐ Sunni groups ‐ being submerged in local struggles, in local conflicts," he said.

"It changed their priorities. Their enemies are local."

He offers the example of the difference in the late Osama bin Laden
... who doesn't live anywhere anymore...
and Abu Bakir al-Baghdadi's forms of jihadism.

Iraq
Exhuming Kocho: ‘This is a site of killing, of mass graves’
[Rudaw] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) forces of Evil entered the village of Kocho, 25 km southeast of Sinjar city, on August 3, 2014. For several days after their arrival, nothing happened. Then, on August 15, the jihadists launched their genocide of the Yezidis.

They took 1,250 men, women and kiddies into Kocho High School. Four-hundred men were then taken to the outskirts of the village where they were killed. Just 19 survived to bear witness.

Finding no use for them, ISIS also slaughtered 77 older women. Children were indoctrinated, radicalized, and taught how to fight. At least 850 women and girls were taken as slaves.

"Our neighbors betrayed us and killed all our brothers," said Shada Salih, a survivor of Kocho.

"They were held captive for 14 days and no one tried to rescue them. Our brothers were just shepherds and young boys. Neighbors turned to ’faith’ and became our enemies and killed our brothers in groups," she wept.

Almost four-and-a-half years later, the Iraqi government, United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
, and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) are supporting an experienced international team, which began exhuming the suspected mass gravesites of Kocho on Friday.

"This is a site of killing, of mass graves," said Khan Karim, a British QC who is heading the UNITAD-Iraq investigation.

"It is one of 11 mass graves in Kocho, one of 70 mass graves in Sinjar, and one of hundreds of mass graves in Iraq that are the result of ISIS crimes," he said, using an Arabic acronym for ISIS.

"So of course what we have to do is to uncover them, see what the evidence is, look at the rounds, look at the bullets, look at other information or evidence that may feed into a criminal trial in accordance with international standards," he added.

This start of the exhumation process in Shingal is the first under the auspices of the UN since the genocidal campaign by ISIS.

Today, nobody lives in Kocho. Most buildings have collapsed and are unsuitable to use. Political tensions exist between the Iraqi federal government, KRG, federal police, the army, Peshmerga, gangs, and Hashd al-Shaabi paramilitias.

Locals say just 630 of the village’s original inhabitance are living. They will not return any time soon, and most live in IDP camps in the Kurdistan Region.

"Much of my family was lost, and with the loss of Kocho’s villagers, almost all were killed," said Shreen Ibrahim, a survivor of Kocho.

"Few survived ‐ from my whole family, only my sister and me. The rest all were killed in the massacres."

"We have lost a lot."

Iraqi defense ministry denies targeting Islamic State hideout in Kirkuk

position in the oil-rich province of Kirkuk.

In a press statement, a copy of which was obtained by Alghad Press, the ministry denied that its F16 jet fighters raided a hideout of nine Islamic State turbans in Wadi Abul Khanager area between al-Riyad and al-Rashad districts in Kirkuk.

"All reports circulated in this regard are baseless," the statement read.

Kirkuk officials previously urged reinforcing military troops in the south and west of the province, as the region still has Islamic State members who escaped during the liberation of Hawija to remote areas.

In a recent campaign rally in Tokat, he lashed out against fellow founders and members of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) whom he had cast aside, one after the other, in the course of his quest for autocratic power.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Report: Concerns Mount about IS Militants ‘Smuggled’ into Lebanon
[AnNahar] Leb’s mostly non-existent border with Syria raises concerns amid recent reports claiming that Syrian nationals fleeing military service and others belonging to the Islamic State

terror group have been smuggled illegally into Leb, al-Joumhouria daily reported on Saturday.

Unnamed sources told the daily on condition of anonymity that "smuggling of Syrian nationals through legal border crossings from Syria into Leb has increased lately."

They pointed out that the operations are carried out through smugglers active in both the Lebanese and Syrian sides, and not only include those fleeing military service or facing criminal acts in Syria, but also includes individuals linked to the terrorist groups of the Islamic State and al-Nusra

Front.

"These are brought from Idlib into Leb, and some of them have arrived in Wadi Khaled," said the source.

Although Leb’s security services "managed to arrest some of them, but the smuggling operations are taking place on a daily basis," said the source.

"Lebanese authorities involved in the Lebanese-Syrian border file have raised concern, and fear that the smuggling would be preceded by serious preparations by the murderous Moslems for Leb," concluded the source.

Iraq
Two Turkish soldiers killed in clashes with PKK militants in northern Iraq
One hopes that in response the government of Iraq will exert itself to at least send a stiff diplomatic note, though one is not sanguine on the subject.
[IraqiNews.com] ‐ Two Ottoman Turkish soldiers were killed and eight others were maimed Saturday in festivities with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) Death Eaters in northern Iraq, Arab News quoted the Ottoman Turkish defense ministry as said.

Six bully boys, including a woman, were "neutralized" during the operations, the ministry said in a statement. The Ottoman Turkish army uses the term "neutralize" when it kills, captures or wounds combatants.

The PKK, considered a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
and Turkey, has waged a three-decade insurgency in Turkey’s largely Kurdish southeast that has killed about 40,000 people.
Rudaw gives the perspective of the Iraqi Kurds on the latest excitements:
The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and Ottoman Turkish military skirmished in the northern mountains of the Kurdistan Region on Saturday, resulting in fatalities to Ottoman Turkish soldiers.
"During fighting in the operation in northern Iraq on 16 March 2019 two of our brave soldiers were martyred and eight of theirs injured in the same operation," read a statement from the Ottoman Turkish Ministry of Defense released by state-media Anadolu Agency.

Ankara added in the operation six members of the PKK were killed including one female.

Locals told Rudaw that two Ottoman Turkish military planes were flying over Bradost area on Saturday morning.

At 6 a.m., PKK fighters attacked a Ottoman Turkish base on Mount Chyadel from Barmiza village, a source told Rudaw English who requested anonymity citing security concerns.

The source added that fighting continued until 8:30 a.m., but Ottoman Turkish helicopters arrived, apparently to retrieve their casualties, which the source claimed to be at least two dozen.

According to media close to the PKK, the fighting took place in the areas between Chyadel and Bradost. Roj News added the Ottoman Turkish Army was retrieving their maimed via helicopter.

The PKK did not immediately publish a statement on the fighting.
The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

has been in full control of Barmeza village, where Saturday's fighting took place.

In late January, protesters stormed a Ottoman Turkish base in Shiladze in Duhok province after a deadly attack by the army.

Its mountainous borders with Kurdistan Region have been hotspots for festivities. The PKK’s headquarters is in the Qandil district near the borders with Iran and Turkey. Their festivities sometimes result in civilian casualties.

The outlawed PKK is an armed political group that has clashed with Ottoman Turkish state for decades. It claims to be fighting for greater political, minority and cultural rights in Turkey.

Turkey has military presence in Kurdistan Region since the early 1990s, especially in those areas which are not under the direct control of the KRG.

Kandahar: 11 Talibs toes up after attacking 205th Corps post, 4 kaboomed
Taliban militants suffer casualties after attacking army outpost in Kandahar

[KhaamaPress] At least eleven Taliban militants were killed or wounded after attacking an army outpost in Kandahar province which sparked clash with the Afghan armed forces.

According to 205th Atal Corps officials, the Taliban militants launched the attack early on Thursday morning in Mya Neshin district with an aim to capture the outpost and kill its occupants.

“The 1st Brigade, 205th Corps Soldiers engaged in a fire-fight with the Taliban to attempt to deter them from moving any closer to the checkpoint. The checkpoint commander called his mortar team to fire their mortars at the Taliban which caused them to retreat from the checkpoint. The 205th Corps then moved to the position where the Taliban had engaged them from and discovered they had killed 7 Taliban and wounded an additional 4 insurgents during the course of the fight,” the officials said.

“Our training proved critical during this clash with the Taliban,” said the 205th Corps checkpoint commander. “We have had a very busy winter with operations against the Taliban so we feel we have gotten a lot better at defending ourselves.”

The 205th Corps has spent time over the last few weeks training on accuracy and precision with their mortar teams as the spring fighting season approaches.

“We would love a ceasefire and see peace soon, but until then, we still have to be prepared to defend ourselves and our citizens so they do not have to be afraid,” said the 205th Corps spokesperson.

West Africa Province.

Roughly 2 million people have been displaced by the war, often living in squalid camps with little food, shelter or medicine.

"The source of the fire was a spark from a cooking stove, used by a child preparing her food," Norwegian Refugee Council said on Twitter, describing the disaster in the town of Gajiram in Borno, the state worst hit by the conflict.

"Immediately, the family shelter, made of dry vegetation, was ablaze...The survivors of the fire are now left without shelters & clean water to drink & cook. They are dispersed, desperately seeking shelters under trees or under the direct sunlight."

Some 6,000 children and more than 4,000 pregnant and nursing women were among those affected, it added.

In recent weeks, Nigerian and Chadian forces have launched an offensive against Islamic State's Lake Chad stronghold after being on the back for much of 2018 and early 2019.

The Nigerian military has said it has killed dozens of murderous Moslem fighters. Rooters has been unable to verify the figures.

Many aid groups expect the humanitarian crisis to last years.

group has confirmed the death of two French brothers who were members in air strikes by the U.S.-led coalition.

In its issue published Thursday, al-Naba wrote about Fabien Clain and his brother Jean-Michel in a section called "the life of a martyr."

"A Crusader airplane targeted him and he was killed," it said, referring to the coalition.

"A few days later, his brother Abu Othman (Jean-Michel) was killed in the same way," it said.

IS fighters are defending the last shreds of their "caliphate" against Kurdish-led forces backed by the coalition in the eastern Syrian village of Baghouz.

Fabien's "eldest daughter... was killed in Baghouz, and he did not survive her for long", the IS publication said.

During most of his time, Fabien worked at al-Bayan Radio, it said.

His brother Jean-Michel worked at Ajnad, an IS media production group.

"They produced a lot of chants, as well as propaganda and inciting audio tracks," the propaganda outlet added.

Fabien "waged a lot of attacks, in defense of the homes of Moslems," it added.

The US-led coalition, of which La Belle France is also a member, confirmed Fabien's death last month.

Fabien, 41, gained notoriety after voicing an audio recording claiming responsibility for the November 2015 attacks in Gay Paree, when IS jihadists slaughtered 129 people.

After fleeing Baghouz, Jean-Marc's wife Dorothee Maquere told AFP earlier this month that her husband had been killed after her brother-in-law.

Fabien was killed by a drone, and then Jean-Michel was killed by a mortar round, she said.

On its Telegram channels on Friday, IS released an infographic titled, "So you think we're going to go away?"

Below, it listed a series of attacks it claimed to have carried out including in Nigeria, Syria and Iraq.

Rioters torch famous Fouquet's Restaurant on the Champs-Elysées
[CBC] French firefighters are working to extinguish a blaze in a Paris restaurant seen as a powerful symbol of France's elite that was torched amid yellow vest protest violence.

The flames pouring out of the posh eatery Fouquet's on the Champs-Elysées marked one of the most powerful images on a day of unusual unrest in the French capital.

The restaurant was vandalized Saturday morning and later set ablaze. Several luxury boutiques along the elegant avenue were also ransacked, and kiosks set on fire.

Fouquet's is popular among celebrities and powerbrokers.

Critics see the place as an offensive example of bourgeois decadence that is inaccessible to most French people, who are struggling to pay their bills.

It's also associated with former conservative president Nicolas Sarkozy, who celebrated his 2007 election victory in Fouquet's ‐ drawing criticism for his choice of such a flashy locale.

Paris climate rally draws 45,000 people: Media estimate

[AlAhram] Around 45,000 climate campaigners marched in Gay Paree Saturday to condemn what they called the French government's "inaction" on climate change, according to an estimate by several media.

The organisers of the march through the centre of the city, which coincided with "yellow vests" riots in the west, estimated that 107,000 people took part while the police put the figure at 36,000.

Baghouz: Syria force locked in battle with ISIS jihadists in holdout village
[Rudaw] US-backed forces battled Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group fighters Saturday as the holdout jihadists clung to the last dregs of their crumbling "caliphate" in eastern Syria.

The SDF and coalition warplanes have rained fire on the enclave since last Sunday, blitzing more than 4,000 IS fighters and family members into surrender.

US-backed forces have reduced daytime Arclight airstrikes and shelling to allow for more exits from the last jihadist bastion.

But AFP journalists at an SDF post inside Baghouz heard sporadic rounds of mortar fire Saturday, and an SDF front man said fighting was ongoing.

"Clashes broke out again last night and have continued since," SDF front man Adnan Afrin said.

"There have so far been no surrenders (today) and there’s no sign they are giving up," he told AFP.

An SDF statement said the latest fighting broke out after the Kurd-led force attacked IS positions inside Baghouz.

Around 32 jihadists, including at least four senior IS figures, were killed in the battle, it said.

Around 32 jihadists, including at least four senior IS figures, were killed in the battle, an SDF statement said.
SUICIDE ATTACKS
On Friday, IS launched three suicide kabooms outside Baghouz, killing six people as they fled the village near the Iraqi border.

They were the latest casualties in Syria’s devastating civil war as it entered its ninth year with 370,000 dead.

The US-led coalition said the bombers were dressed in women's clothing and had mixed with others who were surrendering.

"ISIS has proven to demonstrate a reckless disregard for human life and continues to be a global threat," it said late Friday, using an Arabic acronym for IS.

"We stand by our SDF partners as they fight to liberate that last ISIS-held territory," it said on Twitter.

Analyst Mutlu Civiroglu said the attacks were designed to keep "moral high" among jihadists.

"From their perspective they are resisting, they are not giving up quickly," he said.

Die-hard IS fighters have unleased a wave of suicide kabooms over the past week to impede the SDF advance.

It remains unclear how many fighters and civilians remain inside Baghouz.

More than 61,000 people have streamed out of IS-held territory since December, a tenth of them suspected jihadists, according to the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

DISTRESS, FATIGUE, MALNUTRITION
Around 3,000 people arrived at al-Hol camp from Baghouz over the past two days, pushing the camp’s population to over 69,000, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) said Saturday.

According to the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
children’s fund, UNICEF, the camp was designed with capacity for just 20,000 people.

The UN said most of the new arrivals "show clear signs of distress, fatigue, malnutrition and require some form of medical care or attention".

According to the IRC and UN, since December around 122 people have died en route to the camp or shortly after arriving, mostly small children, two of them on Thursday.
Al Masdar adds:
According to a new report from eastern Syria, the Syrian Democratic Forces scored a huge advance in the last 24 hours, seizing at least half of the Baghouz Camp from the Islamic State terrorists.

Furthermore, the Syrian Democratic Forces also managed to eliminate a large number of Islamic State fighters that were holed up at the northern end of the Baghouz Camp.

The Syrian Democratic Forces reportedly killed more than 150 Islamic State bully boyz that were holding the northeastern part of the Baghouz Camp.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
The firing of SPLC's Morris Dees - Now for the rest of the story
[Big League Politics] A recently-uncovered court document from the divorce proceedings of a prominent Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) figure alleges horrific conduct on behalf of one of the most influential lawyers in America.

Maureene Dees, ex-wife of SPLC co-founder Morris Dees filed for divorce on March 8, 1979 after a decade-long marriage marred by difficulties, according to an appellant brief obtained by Big League Politics. The brief was filed by Maury Smith, Julia S. Waters and Charles M. Crook, attorneys for Maureene, in the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals:

According to court testimony, among other perverted sexual behavior, Dees attempted to molest his 18-year-old step-daughter with a sex toy. Holly Buck was Maureene Dees’ daughter from a previous marriage.

"Holly testified that, in the summer of 1977, Morris attempted to molest her in the following incident: One night Maureene and Morris were sitting drinking wine and discussing a case Morris was trying," the brief says. "[Holly] was with them. Around eleven or twelve o’clock, Maureene went to bed and Holly stayed up with Morris discussing the case. Morris kept offering Holly wine, some of which she accepted."

Holly testified that she declined, choosing to go to bed instead.

"She went to her room and then went into the bathroom," the document says. "Looking out the window, she saw Morris in the bushes beside the bathroom window looking in. She said ’Morris, is that you’, but he said nothing and ran away."

Two months later, things got worse.

#1  Terrible, terrible, terrible.
Is this the result of more upstream failed dams and poor flow control? More global warming I assume as the ACE engineers responsible for design and build are long gone by now.

Afghanistan
1 killed, another wounded in a magnetic bomb explosion in Kabul city
“It’s like the Wild East out there, effendi.”
“Just do your best, Sergeant Alhamdalullah. That’s all anyone can do during these troubled times.”
[KhaamaPress] At least two people were killed or maimed in an kaboom triggered by a magnetic bomb in Kabul city earlier this morning, the security officials said.

Basir Mujahid, a front man for Kabul Police Commandment, said the incident took place in the vicinity of Kote Sangi area located in 5th police district of the city.

Mujahid further added that the magnetic bomb was planted in a private Toyota Corolla type vehicle which went off at around 8:20am local time today.

He said the blast left the driver of the vehicle dead while another individual was maimed in the kaboom.

No individual or group has so far grabbed credit for the kaboom.

The anti-government armed elements have stepped up magnetic kabooms in Kabul city and other large cities and provinces of the country during the recent years.
