U.S. Not Sending Any One Currently Working In Obama Admin To Thatcher Funeral For Represention
"Pointed snub. Of course, she stood for everything those in the Administration seek to suborn. Contrast this with official delegation they sent to radical Hugo Chavez’s funeral-they did include official current administrative representation. It’s a sad day when, once again, we let down our friends."

China-Japan-Koreas
Dupe entry: China points finger at U.S. over Asia-Pacific tensions
"China's defense ministry made a thinly veiled attack on the United States on Tuesday for increasing tensions in the Asia-Pacific by ramping up its military presence and alliances in the region, days after the top U.S. diplomat visited Beijing."
Gee Jawn, maybe you should have tossed them some medals - ya'know, just as a reminder of your visit...?

"China has repeatedly said the world has nothing to fear from its military spending, which it says is needed for legitimate defensive purposes in a complex and changing world, and that the sums spent pale in comparison with U.S. defense expenditure."
Interesting way of putting it....

ARTIC > PLA DAILY > CHINA DEFENCE "WHITE PAPER" = notes that China needs to beef up = strengthen its defenses agz a West seemingly intent on undermining it, West continues to use a strategy of trying to modernize China while also simul trying to destabilize + break it up???

AGAIN, AS PER THE LATEST NOKOR/DPRK CRISIS, ITS CHINA THAT HAS BEEN MOBILIZING ITS MIL ASSETS, NOT NOKOR.

IMO the NOKOR Crisis heralds the begining of "post-US", "Mahanist" China's challenge to US Power-n-Influence in East Asia or Asia - Pacific, albeit indirectly or by "proxy/
surrogate" at present. HOWEVER, IFF NOTHING CHANGES CHINA WILL STEADILY BEGIN LINEARLY PUTTING THE PLA + ANTI-US NUCLEAR BRINKMANSHIP, ETC. IN THE FOREFRONT OF SINO-US CONFRONTATION IN LIEU OF PROXY NORTH KOREA.

IOW, where Rising China's strategic interests are concerned NOKOR/DPRK's KJU's war rants is just for starters = "testing'feeling" the Bammer + Debt-Sequester-ridden US' response for when China is finally ready to begin the shooting war that must occur.

Iff one believes that POTUS Bammer is a de facto anti-US Lefty Marxist-Anarchist-Globalist, then the best time for China + Iran to "push the envelope" in regards to achieveing + entrenching their particular National + Geopol agendums is NOW, ASAP AMAP ALAP during a Bammer 2nd term, not after Jan. 2017 wid a new US POTUS in office.

Ricin Mail Addressed to Miss. Senator Wicker
An envelope that tested positive for the deadly poison ricin was intercepted Tuesday afternoon at the U.S. Capitol's off-site mail facility in Washington, congressional and law enforcement sources tell CNN.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he was told the letter was addressed to the office of Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Mississippi. After the envelope tested positive in a first routine test, it was retested two more times, each time coming up positive, the law enforcement source said. The package was then sent to a Maryland lab for further testing.

Saudi national no longer ‘person of interest’ in Boston bombings, no other suspects
"He was never categorized as a suspect; he was a person of interest. My understanding is that he totally cooperated and that he is no longer a person of interest," Chambliss said.

Asked if there were any other persons of interest at this time, Chambliss said, "Not that I know of."

Chambliss did say that security around the country would have to change for large public events, including greater involvement by the federal government.

"This was a soft target. It was not a target that was able to be totally protected," he said. "This particular incident is going to cause the administration and Congress to evaluate our overall security programs around the country, particularly for major events. We can't leave it just to the communities that host these events to provide the security."
Never let a crisis go to waste.

#1  At last check, CNN + FOX > Reports of alleged 2-5 "unexploded bombs" have not been confirmed.

Taken collectively, it strongly subjectively appears at this time that the blasts in Boston are the work of a seeming "lone wolf", doemstic or foreign, but this may still change as the formal US investigation uncovers new details.

Injured Saudi is a witness, not a suspect, in Boston bombing
[Washington Post] U.S. law enforcement officials said Tuesday that a Saudi national injured in the Boston Marathon bombing is regarded as a witness, not a suspect. The Saudi, who is recuperating at a Boston hospital, is in his 20s and is in the United States on a Saudi scholarship to study at a university in the Boston area. The federal officials' explanation echoed comments by a Saudi official at the country's embassy in Washington. The embassy official said that a Saudi national has been questioned as a witness but is not regarded as a suspect.

What sets off alarm bells is that they haven't said WHAT he was doing there. He was there, injured, and taken to the hospital. But nobody can tell me what a Saudi national, on a student-visa, was doing there. Curiosity? Possible, but just SAY THAT. Just making it look bad if this guy is innocent.

Person briefed on probe: bombs in pressure cookers
The explosives used in the deadly Boston Marathon bombing were contained in 6-liter pressure cookers and hidden in black duffel bags on the ground, a person briefed on the investigation told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

One of the explosives contained shards of metal and ball bearings, and another contained nails, the person said.

A second person briefed on the investigation confirmed that at least one of the explosives was made out of a pressure cooker. Both spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.

#7  The pressure cooker explains one thing that was puzzling me. Homemade explosives produce as much flash as bang, and there was no flash on the video images. But contain them in a pressure cooker and you get little flash.

Axelrod: Obama Thinks Boston Bombings Could Be Related to 'Tax Day'
Video
In explaining why President Obama didn't call the Boston bombings a "terrorist attack," former adviser David Axelrod said, "I'm sure what was going through the president's mind is -- we really don't know who did this -- it was tax day":

#4  Wishcasting.
Posted by: Rob Crawford || 04/16/2013 15:25 Comments || Top||

#5  Paul, the thing is, I can't think of anyone who has a serious hate on for marathoners. It's even kind of odd for a jihadist attack. You would have thought they'd have timed it for the front-runners if they were going for a classic terrorist attack. Also, it isn't exactly a symbol of America or anything like that. Also, somebody would have claimed responsibility by now if it was an organized terror group.

It doesn't seem right for bigots - the Boston Marathon is pretty solidly "Stuff White People Like", and you'd think they'd attack a more... ethnic sporting event. And again, somebody would have claimed responsibility by now.

The event has little to do with government, tax or otherwise.

The marathon has little to do with any of the hot-button issues of the day. Unless you count the awkwardness of the Sandy-NYC Marathon conflict last fall. And somehow I can't see a pissed-off Staten Islander bombing another city over what was an unpleasant but passing slight five months afterwards.

This is feeling more and more like your classic mad bomber. Which suggests to me that he may strike again. What's the next big event in the Northeast?
Posted by: Mitch H. || 04/16/2013 15:39 Comments || Top||

#6  Mitch, the Marathon is perfect for a terrorist bombing. Potential high body count, easy to plant multiple bombs without people noticing, lots of locations that will serve as bomb points, and responders strung out all along a 26 mile route.

Why aim at front runners? Someone pointed out yesterday that there's a BIG clump of finishers right around the 4 hour mark of a good marathon. You could set the bombs off then and be sure of quite a reaction, and it would be even more unexpected -- hence the 'terror' part of terrorism.

Oh, and Axelrod is an asshole. But we all know that.
Posted by: Steve White || 04/16/2013 16:27 Comments || Top||

#7  I was thinking about the timing. Your front runners would be the professionals with a number of internationals especially at a big'un like Boston. At this point, would it not be mostly US citizens? The aspiring pros, those who peaked but love it, charity runners?

"It was tax day...he was too busy counting the money and sipping champaign at the 19th hole. In fact, by the time he realized this would kick off both Korea and Kermit, he had already had someone write a sea chanty for him"
Posted by: swksvolFF || 04/16/2013 17:04 Comments || Top||

#8  Think about it: a terrorist does not have to have a specific target, but he terrorizes the population to disrupt a society and to spread fear. Think of the assets that had to be mobilized to respond to this. Think of all the other cities that felt that they had to step up vigilance and security to deal with the perceived threats.

All over a few pots of ball bearings fashioned into an explosive device. Where will the next one strike, sez the public? Let one's imagination run wild. The potential victims bring fear to the table.

One nutcase has a lot of leverage.
Posted by: Alaska Paul || 04/16/2013 21:37 Comments || Top||

I still remember the airplane suicide, wisconsin labor union occupy, the cheering on of the cop killer, the spiking of trees by enviro groups. #6  Chris Matthews is a terrorist.

Terrorists use violence to achieve their political goals. That is exactly what Matthews is doing. The twist is that he doesn't make his own violence, but that doesn't change what he is. Minutes after the explosions, before anyone knew anything, he was blaming the right. It was a calculated move to score political points by exploiting violence. We have a word for people who do that--terrorists.

Do you have a link for that, 746? The information would be useful for understanding what's happening in this country. Especially if your bomb turned out to be TATP (Mother of Satan) on of the Al Qaeda favourites, as has been suggested for the Boston Marathon bombs -- yours could be another datum pointing to a connection between white racists and jihadis, as has been documented elsewhere.

Thanking you in advance,

#10  Thank you, Mitch. The key, I think, is a large crowd gathered that could be easily mown down. The bomb found at the Atlanta Olympics was neither a race nor a parade, but there were lots of innocent people available for explosion-fodder nonetheless.

1974 June 13: The 29th floor of the Gulf Tower in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was bombed with dynamite at 9:41 pm resulting in no injuries. The radical leftist group Weatherman took credit, but no suspects have ever been identified.[22]
1983 November 7: U.S. Senate bombing. The Armed Resistance Unit, a militant leftist group, bombs the United States Capitol in response to the U.S. invasion of Grenada.

Black militancy

1970 October 22: An antipersonnel time bomb explodes outside a San Francisco church, showering steel shrapnel on mourners of a patrolman slain in a bank holdup; no one is injured. The Black Liberation Army is suspected.[79]
1971: During this year the Black Liberation Army is suspected of killing three policemen one at his desk in San Francisco, shooting four others and opening fire on three patrol cars and rolling a grenade which heavily damages a police car and injures two officers. An attempt is made to bomb a police station. These incidents happen in various cities around the country. In August the group runs a one month long guerrilla warfare school in Fayetteville, Georgia. Seven are arrested in January 2007 in connection with the San Francisco desk shooting incident.[79][80]
1972 January 22: Two St. Louis policemen, Gregory Foster and Rocco Laurie, are shot in the back by at least three persons; four suspects in the case are members of the Black Liberation Army; one suspect is later killed in a street battle with police; the recovered pistol matches Laurie's.[79]
1972 December 28: A Brooklyn, New York bartender is held for $12000 ransom by the Black Liberation Army.[79]
1973 January 7: After shooting a police officer a week earlier Mark Essex a former Black Panther party member shoots nineteen people, ten of them police officers, in retaliation for police killings in and around a Howard Johnson's hotel in New Orleans. He also set fires in the hotel before being killed by police.
1973: A New York City transit detective is killed and ten law enforcement personnel are shot four by machine gun during the year mostly in and around New York City by the Black Liberation Army. Also two members of that organization are arrested with a car full of explosives. Quake Kills At Least 46 Along Iran-Pakistan Border
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] A major earthquake described as the strongest to hit Iran in more than half a century flattened homes and offices Tuesday on both sides of the Iran-Pakistain border, killing at least 46 people in the sparsely populated region and swaying skyscrapers and buildings as far away as New Delhi.

Iran's Red Islamic Thingy said it was facing a "complicated emergency situation" in the area with villages scattered over desolate hills and valleys.

Iran's semiofficial ISNA news agency and others described the quake, measured at least magnitude 7.7, as the strongest quake in more than 50 years. State-run Press TV called it a "massive quake."

It also was the second deadly quake to hit Iran in less than a week after a magnitude 6.1 temblor struck near Bushehr, on Iran's Persian Gulf coast, killing at least 37 people and raising calls for greater international safety inspectors at Iran's lone nuclear reactor nearby.

Axelrod: Obama Thinks Boston Bombings Could Be Related to 'Tax Day'
[WEEKLYSTANDARD] In explaining why President Obama didn't call the Boston bombings a "terrorist attack," former adviser David Axelrod said, "I'm sure what was going through the president's mind is -- we really don't know who did this -- it was tax day":
"The word has taken on a different meaning since 9/11," Axelrod said of the phrase "terrorist attack."

"You use those words and it means something very specific in people's mind. And I'm sure what was going through the president's mind is -- we really don't know who did this -- it was tax day. Was it someone who was pro--you know, you just don't know. And so I think his attitude is, let's not put any inference into this, let's just make clear that we're going to get the people responsible."

Steel yourselves to attacks from enviro-extremists

World War II Lancaster bomber pilot “Sandy” Mutch says that the Harper government should not be surprised that they were angrily attacked by climate campaigners last week when Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver expressed doubt about the severity of man-made global warming.

On bombing raids over Europe, we could tell we were closing in on the target when we started to get the most flak,” said Mutch, now 93 and living in Ottawa. “Anyone who wants to kill the dangerous and unfounded climate scare, as I certainly hope our government does, should focus on exposing the shaky science behind climate alarm. That is the Achilles heel of the whole movement. Shoot it down and you win the war!”

Feds seek suspects, motive in Boston bombings
BOSTON — TFederal investigators said no one had claimed responsibility for the bombings one of the city's most famous civic holidays, Patriots Day. But the blasts among the throngs of spectators raised fears of a terrorist attack.

President Barack Obama was far too careful not to use the words "terror" or "terrorism" as he spoke at the White House Monday after the deadly bombings, but an administration official said the bombings were being treated as an act of terrorism.
"We will find out who did this. We'll find out why they did this," the president said. "Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups, will feel the full weight of justice."

The FBI took charge of the investigation into the bombings, serving a warrant late Monday on a home in suburban Boston and appealing for any video, audio and still images taken by marathon spectators.

A European security official said Tuesday initial evidence indicates that the attacks were not the work of suicide bombers. "So far, investigators believe it was not the work of suicide bombers, but it is still too early to rule it out completely," said the official.

The Pakistani Taliban, which has threatened attacks in the United States because of its support for the Pakistani government, on Tuesday denied any role in the marathon bombings.
And we should believe you because...
As many as two unexploded bombs were found near the end of the 26.2-mile course as part of what appeared to be a well-coordinated attack, but they were safely disarmed, according to a senior U.S. intelligence official.

WBZ-TV reported late Monday that law enforcement officers were searching an apartment in the Boston suburb of Revere. Massachusetts State Police confirmed that a search warrant related to the investigation into the explosions was served Monday night in Revere, but provided no further details. Some investigators were seen leaving the Revere house early Tuesday carrying brown paper bags, plastic trash bags and a duffel bag.

Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis asked people to stay indoors or go back to their hotel rooms and avoid crowds as bomb squads methodically checked parcels and bags left along the race route. He said investigators didn't know whether the bombs were hidden in mailboxes or trash cans.

He said authorities had received "no specific intelligence that anything was going to happen" at the race.

A few miles away from the finish line and around the same time, a fire broke out at the John F. Kennedy Library. The police commissioner said that it may have been caused by an incendiary device but that it was not clear whether it was related to the bombings.

The attack may have been timed for maximum carnage: The four-hour mark is typically a crowded time near the finish line because of the slow-but-steady recreational runners completing the race and because of all the friends and relatives clustered around to cheer them on.

#1  Motive?

Terrorism needs no motive, terror is an end unto itself.

Revere Apartment Searched
BOSTON -- Federal and local investigators are sifting through evidence and interviewing witnesses, trying to determine who's responsible for the deadly explosions at the Boston Marathon finish line.

Police and federal agents searched an apartment building on Ocean Avenue in nearby Revere late Monday night in connection with the bombings. CBS News Senior Correspondent John Miller reported Tuesday morning the apartment search was related to the man who is reportedly under guard at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Miller reported the man is a Saudi national who is in the United States on a student visa.

Several bags were removed from the scene around 2 a.m. Tuesday, but authorities would not comment on the search.

The Revere Fire department wrote on its Facebook page that this was a search for "a person of interest." FBI, ATF, ICE, Boston PD, Revere PD as well as MSP detectives and Bomb Techs from Boston PD and State.

Two men were questioned by federal agents in the lobby overnight before they were allowed to go upstairs.

Army patrol bombed, ambushed in southern Thailand
Several soldiers were wounded when a bomb destroyed their patrol vehicle and gunmen then opened fire at them in Pattani province on Tuesday.

Members of a special task force were patroling a local road in an armored vehicle when the bomb went off shortly after noon. Several soldiers were reported wounded by the blast. Hidden gunmen then opened fire on the soldiers.

The bomb, estimated to have 20 kilograms of explosives, was hidden alongside the road near a bridge and was remotely detonated.

Even the video of the blast can help identify what kind of bomb it is--or in the case of Boston, confirm that the bombs that detonated were the same that went off. It comes in a white powder and blooms in a white cloud when it explodes. In Boston, the initial images seem to show white smoke blossoming at the moment of kaboom.

Debka Analysis: FBI Boston Marathon probe points to Mid-East terrorists with domestic support
Key bits:
Counterterrorism experts are equally certain of the Middle East terrorist hallmarks on the Boston Marathon bombings, although it is too soon to say whether it was the work of Al Qaeda or an allied radical jihadi group such as the Ansar al-Sharia
...a Yemeni Islamist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends...
, which was responsible for the Benghazi consulate in conjunction with a clandestine al Qaeda command center in Cairo.

Experts experienced in these matters maintain that an attack on this scale and of this type would have required four or five bombers on the ground and a support team of about 10 spotters and accomplices familiar with the terrain, further back. They would have needed more than one vehicle and communications gear, in addition to mobile phones which are easily tracked.

The two kabooms, 400 meters apart, were obviously coordinated and designed to cause maximum casualties. The ball-bearings scattered across the scene of the crime and found in the pockets of some of the casualties were familiar to Israelis and others and telling evidence of Middle East terrorist authorship.

The bomb which caused such havoc and agony was small yet deadly -- another pointer to the "professionalism" of the attackers.

#1  Cant speak for the size of the bombs, but i fail to see why the large numbers sited would be required if they used timers you only need two guys at the scene to drop backpacks into trash cans. Perhaps a second to detonate of any are discovered. Since some were found un explodes tge second person msy not have been there.

You dont even need a suicidal bomber with timers. Just psychotic intent and enough bomb making skill.

Yes all those numbers would probably have helped in different ways but i would think they also increase the chance of it being noticed.

Im glad they didnt plant a suicidal sniper or two at the scene to add chaos and ensure the media played up the anti-gun angle.

What you are referring to Richard is termed a "complex attack". They are not uncommon in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Posted by: Besoeker || 04/16/2013 8:49 Comments || Top||

#3  One guy could have done this. Building seven is no different than building one, just takes a bit longer. Timer-based means he would need a fairly long lead time to place them all, and given traffic uncertainty, he'd need to do it fairly far in advance, risking discovery before they went off. Cell-phone based would allow more control over the timing and thus less lead time and discovery risk, but more chance of the later bombs failing because either the cell circuits were overwhelmed after the first bombs or were shut down by security. We don't know which, but the authorities do. If reports of five undetonated bombs are correct I suspect the cell phone scenario - odds are against finding and disarming ALL other bombs before timers went off, or ALL other bombs being defective are long.
If they have indeed recovered an intact bomb they will know a whole lot about the bomber by now. We won't and shouldn't. Yet. But when the time is right for us to know, will we get the truth, or politics?
Posted by: Glenmore || 04/16/2013 8:52 Comments || Top||

#4  Hard to say Glen. With the leadership we have in Washington right now, they'll probably focus on high capacity trash cans. :-(

When an obvious terrorist attack is characterized as a "tragedy" by POTUS, what can we expect.
Posted by: Besoeker || 04/16/2013 9:01 Comments || Top||

#5  Now it sounds like there were no additional, undetonated bombs; the reports were likely of controlled detonations of suspicious items that were not bombs. Thus even more likely this was a lone bomber - kind of like the jihadi wannabe that got caught in NYC a couple of years (?) ago when his car bomb fizzled. (Not saying it's a jihadi - could be a McVeigh clone - but that it need not be a big organization.

#7  In AQAP's Inspire magazine al-Suri called for attacks on sports events:
Abu Musab al-Suri listed what he called “the most important enemy targets.”

Al-Suri contended that civilians should be targeted “when responding to a brutal practice carried out by America and her allied forces.”

“This is done by targeting human crowds in order to inflict maximum human losses,” he wrote. “This is very easy since there are numerous such targets such as crowded sports arenas, annual social events, large international exhibitions, crowded market-places, skyscrapers, crowded buildings … etc.”

“It is possible for ordinary Resistance fighters among the Muslims residing in America and the allied Western countries to target them, in order to participate in the jihad and the Resistance, and to stretch out a helping hand to the mujahidun [Islamic warriors].”

The Saudi student's apartment was searched--he has 3 roommates, supposedly here to study English. The explosives used were made in a pressure cooker, the type first seen in Afghanistan. But in the face of what seems like a foregone conclusion, they still aren't using the 'T' word.

Michigan: Controversy over induction into journalism hall of fame
The Anti-Defamation League is asking Michigan State University officials to reconsider inducting the longtime editor of what is considered the nation's largest Arab American community newspaper into their Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame, claiming the publication has been a "forum of hate."

"The fact that Osama Siblani consistently allows his publication to be a forum for hate should call into question his fitness for the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame," Abraham H. Foxman, national director of the organization, said in a statement Monday.

"The Arab American News has repeatedly published anti-Semitic diatribes and rhetoric and Mr. Siblani has publicly stated support and sympathy for terrorist organizations, including Hamas and Hezbollah."

Siblani, publisher and editor of the Dearborn-based weekly launched in 1984, is among five inductees set to be honored Sunday in East Lansing.

ADL officials last week sent a letter to the director of MSU's School of Journalism, seeking a review of Siblani's nomination.

Citing research the group gathered over the years, ADL said the Arab American News' English language section "frequently provides a forum for known anti-Semites, Holocaust deniers and anti-Semitic 9/11 conspiracy theorists such as Jeff Gates, an anti-Semitic author who propagates theories of Jewish control over the U.S., and Paul Craig Roberts, a syndicated columnist and Holocaust denier."

Heidi Budaj, Michigan regional director of ADL, said researchers also noted instances of what they perceived as biased or one-sided reporting.

Reached Monday, Siblani rejected the league's claims, saying he is not anti-Semitic and his newspaper does not promote hatred in its coverage.
"How can I be an antisemite when Arabs are semites?" he added, disingenuously.

Pyongyang's state-run media announced Friday that Seoul's accusation is seen as a "deliberate provocation," quoting the spokesperson for the General Staff of North Korea's People's Army.

After weeks of investigation, the South Korean government said Wednesday that North Korea's Reconnaissance Bureau, a division which specializes in training hackers, was likely behind the March 20 cyberattack.

Regime Warplanes Pound Rebels in Damascus, Suburbs
[An Nahar] Syria's air force launched several air strikes on rebel enclaves in and around Damascus
...The place where Pencilneck hangs his brass hat...
, while fresh festivities between troops and rebels raged to the east of the capital, a monitoring group said on Monday.

"At least one civilian was killed in an air strike on Qaboon" in northeastern Damascus, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, "while regime troops pounded the district of Jubar" in the east.

Amateur video distributed by the Syrian Revolution General Commission, a network of activists on the ground, showed a cloud of grey smoke rising after the air raid in a Damascus neighborhood identified as Qaboon.

The regime also used warplanes to bombard the rebel-held towns of Yabroud, Douma and Harasta east of Damascus, as well as Sbeineh southwest of the capital, according to the monitoring group, which relies on a broad network of activists, doctors and lawyers for its reports.

Meanwhile,
...back at the argument, Livia grabbed for Jane's hair to make her point. Jane elbowed her in the face in rebuttal...
"fierce festivities raged on the edges of Jubar (in eastern Damascus), near Abbasiyeen square," said the group.

Rebels view the square as a strategic target because it lies well within the confines of the capital, the regime's main bastion of power.

The SRGC meanwhile reported the army's use of heavy artillery fire on Yarmuk in southern Damascus, with tanks also striking other rebel enclaves nearby.

Violence rages daily in southern Damascus, with rebels holding the outer edges of several districts, while the regime tries to push them out.

Elsewhere in Syria, warplanes also hit targets in the northeastern city of Raqa as well as an area near the regime-held Base 17 in the same province.

Raqa's thriving provincial capital fell into rebel hands in early March, and gunnies have since been fighting to gain control of Base 17, one of the army's few remaining bastions in the province.

Monday's violence came a day after at least 151 people were killed in violence across Syria, according to the Observatory. Among the dead were 72 civilians, 45 rebels and 34 soldiers, and 32 of the civilians killed were children.

Pakistan strongly condemns US drone attack in N Waziristan
[Dawn] Pakistain has strongly condemned the US-led drone strike in North Wazoo tribal region which killed at least four people on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by Pakistain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday such unilateral attacks are in contravention of international law and counter-productive to the stability of this country. The Government maintained its position that drone strikes violate its territorial integrity and illusory sovereignty.

Such attacks also set dangerous precedents in the inter-state relations, added the Foreign Office's statement.

The Government of Pakistain calls upon the US Government to stop such attacks based on mutual respect and established international norms.

#1  Nice, but ultimately may prove to be irrelevant.

E.g. COLD WAR USSR + WARSAW PACT [then-Commie Eastern Europe] = what matters in the end is whom controls the Govt(s), andor the Country's or the Alliance's Conventional-Nuclear Forces.

THE ONE THAT CONTROLS THE NOKOR ARMED FORCES = STRATEGIC ROCKET FORCES, ETC. IS N-O-T NORTH KOREA OR PUDGY HIMSELF, BUT CHINA = BEIJING + ITS NOKOR-ASSIGNED PLA TOP EGG(S).

The US + other have known this for a long time already, albeit the same still has to "go thru the motions" + pretend that NOKOR is actually in charge of itself.

Jordan Extremist Praises Boston Bombing
[BIGSTORY.AP.ORG] The head of an hard boy Jordanian Moslem Salafi group said early Tuesday that he was "happy to see the horror in America" after the kabooms in Boston.

"American blood isn't more precious than Moslem blood," said Mohammad al-Chalabi, who was convicted in an al-Qaeda-linked plot to attack U.S. and other Western diplomatic missions in Jordan in 2003.

"Let the Americans feel the pain we endured by their armies occupying Iraq and Afghanistan and killing our people there," he said early Tuesday.

Al-Chalabi served seven years in prison for his part in the foiled attack. His group is outlawed in Jordan.

A Mideast counterterrorism official based in Jordan said the blasts "carry the hallmark of an organized terrorist group, like al-Qaeda." He did not give actual evidence linking al-Qaeda to the bombing.

"From the little information available, one can say it was a well-coordinated, well-targeted and near-simultaneous attack," he said. "Luckily, the amount of explosives used is small, judging from the casualty figure and kaboom area."

'Please Don't Be A Muslim': Boston Marathon Blasts Draw Condemnation And Dread In Muslim World
A taste.
[WashingtonPost] So little is known yet about what's behind the kabooms Monday at the Boston Marathon that any conclusion, including terrorism, would be premature.
No, it's definitely terrorism. The only thing premature would be to conclude who is the terrorist.
But that fear has been an early reflex not just in the United States but half a world away in the Middle East. There, a number of observers are expressing sympathy -- recall that pro-American solidarity rallies were held throughout the region after Sept. 11, 2001
...as well as singing, dancing, and handing out candies... which was also seen that day in certain neighborhoods on American soil.
-- and, at times, a sense of dread.
"Don't pound our country to rubble, please. We who are holding these signs didn't do it!"
As a Libyan Twitter user named Hend Amry wrote, "Please don't be a 'Moslem.'" Her message was retweeted by more than 100 other users, including well-known journalists and writers from the Moslem world.
That's nice. What does it mean?

#5  Rationally Mr or Mrs Amry should have written "Please, be a 'Moslem.'"

If this attack was indeed conducted by islamofascist terrorists then the reaction will be more concessions to Muslims, more submission and more danegeld.

Compared to 9/11 or Lockerbie this is minuscule. If anything non-terrorist Muslims (including non-terrorist islamofascists) will reap a net benefit.

No country will be turned into rubble. There won't be any retaliation.

Sanjay Dutt moves court for more time to surrender
[Dawn] Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has moved India's top court for more time before going back to jail for possessing arms supplied by plotters of the deadly 1993 Mumbai blasts, his lawyer said Monday.

Dutt was sentenced to five years in jail for possession of illegal weapons in the long-running case linked to the 1993 Mumbai bombings. The court had given all accused four weeks to surrender.

However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
the Bollywood star had said he would seek clemency in the matter.

In his plea on Monday, Dutt asked the court to keep the punishment in abeyance until the governor decides on pardon, said a report by the Hindustan Times.

The court had upheld Sanjay Dutt's conviction under the Arms Act in the terror attack for illegal possession of a 9 mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle. However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
the court reduced the sentence from six years to five years, effectively reducing Dutt's jail time to three years and six months as he has already undergone 18 months imprisonment.

Dutt, the son of Bollywood legends Nargis and Sunil Dutt, has films like the Zanjeer remake, Policegiri, Munna Bhai 3 and P.K. in the works.

Draft UN resolution would authorize UN peacekeeping force to stabilize towns in northern Mali
[FOXNEWS] La Belle France has circulated a draft U.N. resolution that would authorize a U.N. peacekeeping force to stabilize key towns in northern Mali and help promote a return to democracy and extend government authority throughout the conflict-wracked country.

The draft resolution, obtained Monday by the News Agency that Dare Not be Named, would authorize French troops to intervene to support U.N. troops "under imminent and serious threat." It makes no mention of counter-terrorism operations, currently being carried out by La Belle France, which is likely to continue doing so under an agreement with the Malian government.

The draft would authorize a U.N. force comprising 11,200 military personnel and 1,440 international police to take over from African troops now in Mali on July 1. But it says the transfer could be delayed if snuffies pose a major threat.

Violence and lawlessness in southern territories endanger transition
Except that violence and lawlessness is ever the southern Yemen condition.
[Yemen Post] Security official confirmed on Monday that at least three soldiers were maimed in the southern province of al-Dhali when they were attacked by Haraki Islamic fascisti (Southern Separatist Movement).

According to preliminary reports, the armed Islamic fascisti would have attacked a military compound in al-Dhali as part of their armed resistance against Sana'a central government.

Security officials explained the men opened fire on the compund and hurled hand-held grenades at buildings and soldiers.

As a result three soldiers were severely injured.

"Armed confrontations are still going on between army soldiers and secessionist gunnies around the government compound," reported Xinhua, quoting security source.

Despite renewed calls for calm and Dr. Yassin Noman's injunction to join the National Dialogue Conference, in-factions of al-Harak, notably one that it is led by former South Yemen President ali Salem al-Baidh have grown increasingly violent in their calls for secession.

While a great majority of southerners translated President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi's latest round of presidential decrees as proof state promises had some depth and meaning again (President Hadi fulfilled his commitment to the nation and the GCC-brokered transition of power agreement by demoting Gen. Ahmed Ali Saleh and Ge. Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar from their positions); some radical separatist groups are still very much determined to engage in violence rather than dialogue.

Ashraf thrown out of election race
[Dawn] An election tribunal has rejected the appeal of former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, barring him from contesting in the general elections, DawnNews reported.

In a big blow to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the tribunal enforced the rejection of Ashraf's nomination papers by Returning Officer (RO) Khalid Arshad. The former prime minister was to run for National Assembly seat from NA-51 in Gujar Khan, from where he had won in previous two elections.

A relative of Raja Jawaid Ikhlas, the opponent in the former PM's constituency, had complained that Pervez Ashraf had been misusing his discretionary funds in his constituency which amounted to pre-poll rigging and showed his partisan approach and corrupt practices.

Iraq
Wave of Iraq Attacks Kills 24 Ahead of Polls
[An Nahar] Dozens of attacks across Iraq on Monday, including a brazen boom-mobileing en route to Storied Baghdad
...located along the Tigris River, founded in the 8th century, home of the Abbasid Caliphate...
airport, killed at least 24 people just days before the country's first elections since US troops withdrew.

The violence, which struck during morning rush hour amid tightened security ahead of the polls, also maimed more than 210 people and raises further questions about the credibility of the April 20 vote, seen as a key test of Iraq's stability and its security forces' capabilities.

A total of 14 election hopefuls have already been murdered and just 12 of the country's 18 provinces will be taking part.

Officials said 20 boom-mobiles went kaboom! Monday in Storied Baghdad, the northern cities of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
Tuz Khurmatu, djinn-infested Mosul and Tikrit, the central city of Samarra, and Hilla and Nasiriyah south of Storied Baghdad.

Roadside bombs also hit Baquba, north of the capital, and there was a shooting near Storied Baghdad.

No group immediately grabbed credit for the attacks, but Sunni snuffies linked to Al-Qaeda frequently attack both government targets and civilians in a bid to destabilize the country, and have reportedly sought to intimidate candidates and election officials ahead of polls.

The deadliest attacks were in Storied Baghdad, where six boom-mobiles struck in five neighborhoods across the capital despite tougher checkpoint searches and heightened security.

Among them was a boom-mobile in a parking area used by vehicles making their way to Storied Baghdad's heavily-guarded airport, a rare bombing on the road famously known as "Route Irish".

The airport road was once known by American forces as "RPG alley" for the high numbers of attacks along it but has since become much more secure.

"There were several people, buses and private cars in the parking area when the kaboom went off," said a man who gave his name as Abu Ali, at the site of the blast.

"It happened all of the sudden, and several people were killed and maimed. Some of the buses went straight to the airport to avoid more attacks."

In all, 11 people were killed and 57 maimed in the capital, officials said.

Lurch Urges Talks as N. Korea Keeps Missile Card Close
[An Nahar] U.S. Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
pushed a message of dialogue with North Korea at the end of an Asia tour on Monday, as Pyongyang kept the world guessing over an expected missile launch.

The North has a habit of linking high-profile military tests with key dates, and expectations had been high of a mid-range missile test to coincide with Monday's celebrations marking the birth of its late founding leader Kim Il-Sung.

But unlike the centennial birth anniversary last year, there was no muscular military parade through the center of Pyongyang and officials in Seoul said the "missile watch" could drag on for days.

North Korea and the soaring tensions on the Korean peninsula dominated Kerry's whirlwind tour of South Korea, China and Japan, with the top U.S. diplomat stressing a willingness to "reach out" to Pyongyang.

Kerry, who met with Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the final leg of his trip in Tokyo on Monday, said Washington was open to "authentic and credible" negotiations.

"But the burden is on Pyongyang," he said, adding that the North had to take "meaningful steps" to show it would honor past commitments.

Major Somali Security Crackdown after Spectacular Suicide Attacks
[An Nahar] Somalia's security forces launched a major security operation Monday searching for explosives and weapons, a day after a spectacular suicide kaboom by Islamist gun-hung tough guys in the city.

"There is a major security operation under way in Mogadishu," said senior police official Mohamed Hassan. "So far more than 400 people have been incarcerated
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
, the operations are aimed at tackling insecurity."

On Sunday, a nine-man suicide commando unit blasted its way into Mogadishu's main court complex, some blowing up their explosive vests while others sprayed gunfire in a rampage that left 29 civilians dead, while a separate kaboom killed five more.

The al-Qaeda-linked Shabaab Death Eater group grabbed credit for the courthouse attack.

"All vehicles moving in town are subject to security screening while the passengers are being temporarily detained for questioning," Hassan added.

Security forces set up road blocks across the city.

"The soldiers are stopping all vehicles and arresting people," said Ali Ismail, a witness.

"I saw nearly 300 people who were detained and blindfolded near the industrial road. Everyone the security forces set eyes on today is getting placed in durance vile
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
," said Yusuf Ganey, another witness.

"This is not a normal operation," he said.

The Shabaab Islamists used to control most of the seaside capital until they abandoned fixed positions in August 2011. But the thug group has since carried out a series of attacks against the U.N.-backed government.

A regional military offensive has forced many Shabaab fighters to pull out of a string of key towns, but the gun-hung tough guys have reverted to guerrilla tactics and have carried out several kabooms in Mogadishu.

The scale and audacity of this latest attack -- striking in the heart of the heavily-guarded administrative quarter of the capital -- shocked many.

"None one thought the Shabaab could still strike at the heart of government but it happened and it was a really horrible attack, it is really very difficult to fight someone who does not fear the pain of death," said Muktar Isa, a resident.

Al-Qaeda kills security officer in Hadhramawt
[Yemen Post] Local officials confirmed on Sunday morning the death of yet another security officer in the south-eastern province of Hadhramawt by the hands of al-Qaeda snuffies late on Saturday.

A local official already told the press on condition of anonymity "Two al-Qaeda gunnies on a cycle of violence rubbed out assistant director of the criminal investigations Abdel Kader Hazza, who is also in charge of a counter-terrorism unit in Shiher town of Hadramout
...the formerly independent Qu'aiti state and sultanate, annexed by Communist South Yemen in 1968, encompassing a region along the Gulf of Aden, extending eastwards to the borders of the Dhofar region of Oman. The people are called Hadhramis and speak Hadhrami Arabic. The city Tarimis estimated to contain the highest concentration of descendants of the Prophet Muhammad (PTUI) anywhere in the world, approximately seven in every square yard...
Several high to middle ranking security officers have been systematically targeted over the past 12 months, just as the government continues to crackdown on terror cells throughout its southern provinces.

Officials believe the targeting of officers is part of al-Qaeda's plan to destabilize the region and diminish the state's abilities to foil Islamists' plans in Yemen.

Over 76 security officers have been killed since 2012.

Al-Qaeda in Yemen proved to be a lethal and mighty destructive force when in 2011 the group used Yemen power vacuum and institutional instability to seize large swathes of lands and self-proclaim Zinjibar and Jaar Islamic Caliphates.

Only through a large military escalation could the government reclaim its lands and push back al-Qaeda back into hiding.

Severely diminished the terror group continues however to play havoc as its snuffies reverted to guerrilla tactics, such as targeted liquidation, to eat away at the country's foundations.

[Bangla Daily Star] Local Jamaat-Shibir men, including Bhujpur union parishad Chairman Shafiul Alam Nuri, were involved in Thursday's attacks on law enforcers and an Awami League procession in the union, according to primary police investigation.

Nuri and 34 others of more than 5,000 accused in the case filed in connection with the attack were produced before a Chittagong court yesterday.

Investigation officer (IO) of the case Khandaker Babul yesterday told The Daily Star that they would seek 10 days' remand for each of the arrestees produced in the court.

As of yesterday, 47 people have been incarcerated
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
in the upazila in connection with the attack.

Asked about the progress of the investigation, acting officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhujpur Police Station Aong Sha Thowai said Jamaat-Shibir men were directly involved in the attack.

"From footage, local sources and witnesses, we have confirmed that Jamaat-Shibir men, particularly the Bhujpur union parishad chairman, and its member Taskeer, were involved in the attack," he said.

Jamaat leaders Nuri and Taskeer were picked up after the incident.

Mohammad Farid Uddin, additional superintendent (ASP) of Chittagong police (North), said, "According to evidence, the duo played a vital role in the attack. Chairman Nuri was comparatively more aggressive and one of the criminal masterminds."

The ASP said police had not yet found any connection of Hefajat-e Islam with the attack. They, however, suspect Hefajat supporters might have been involved in it.

On Thursday, alleged Jamaat-Shibir men, joined by several thousand villagers, attacked an AL motor procession and law enforcers following a rumour that the marchers had killed a madrasa teacher and were about to attack the Kazirhat mosque and a Hefajat-run madrasa.

Three people were killed and more than 100 people, including 15 coppers, four fire fighters and two border guards, were maimed in the attack. The attackers also set fire to around 100 vehicles, including 50 cycle of violences and a fire-fighting vehicle.

Local AL leader ATM Peyarul Islam said they were preparing to file a case with Bhujpur police in connection with killing of their three party men.

The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
Maulana Habib Ahmed denied the allegation of Jamaat's involvement in the incident.

"Jamaat's hold in Bhujpur is weak; the area is rather a stronghold of Hefajat-e Islam," he said, adding, "Hefajat men could have been involved in the mayhem."

Despite repeated attempts, no leaders of Bujpur unit Hefajat-e Islam could be reached for their comments.

On Friday, police filed a case against more than 5,000 people, including 100 named, for swooping on law enforcers, obstructing their duty, committing arson and vandalism and creating anarchy at Kazirhat area on Thursday.

Polio drive to begin today
[Dawn] More than 7.6 million children in Sindh will be targeted by over 21,000 polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
vaccination teams across the province as part of a nationwide three-day immunisation campaign starting on Monday, officials said.

As many as 33.5 million children under the age of five years across the country will be immunised in the campaign.

Officials said all sorts of arrangements had been made to make the three-day anti-polio campaign a success.

"We have taken all arrangements to ensure that the anti-polio drive, which will continue till April 17, will remain peaceful," Dr Mazhar Khamisani, director of the expanded programme on immunisation, Sindh, told Dawn on Sunday.

He said precautionary safety measures had been planned to peacefully complete the drive in some troubled localities of Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
. Those localities included Baldia and Gadap.

A three-day campaign for Gadap was already conducted during April 11-13 for its 218,000 children, but teams will again go in these localities to ensure that no child was missed out.

The campaign, particularly in UC-4, had been abruptly ended twice after attacks on a WHO doctor and several polio vaccinators last year.

Authorities ID suspect as Saudi national in marathon bombings
[NYPOST] Investigators have a suspect -- a Soddy Arabian
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in their national face...
national -- in the horrific Boston Marathon bombings, The Post has learned.
Do tell? I was expecting a Pak, maybe a Bangla.
Law enforcement sources said the 20-year-old suspect was under guard at an undisclosed Boston hospital.
"I'm countin' on you, Mahoney!"
"I'll keep an eye on him, chief!"

Fox News reported that the suspect suffered severe burns. It was not immediately clear why the man was hospitalized and whether he was injured in the attack or in his apprehension.
I'm guessing he was hospitalized due to the severe burns. What's your guess?
Shrapnel wounds?
The man was caught less than two hours after the 2:50 p.m. bombing on the finish line of the race, in the heart of Boston.
Two hours? And the guy's fried like an egg?
In addition, Boston police have surveillance video of someone bringing multiple backpacks to the blast site, according to CBS News.
"Y'know, chief, if he wasn't so severely burned he'd look kinda like that guy on the tape!"
"Mahoney, if you didn't have red hair and a beer muscle you'd look kinda like him!"

Police also confirmed that there was a third explosion, at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. It was not immediately clear how much damage was done or whether it was related to the bombings at the marathon finish line. The library bombing occurred about 4:30 p.m. and more than a mile from the marathon.

A law enforcement source confirmed to The Post that 12 people were killed and nearly 50 were injured in today's blast.

Chad Parliament Votes for Gradual Withdrawal of Troops from Mali
[An Nahar] Chad's parliament voted overwhelmingly Monday for a gradual withdrawal of troops from Mali where 36 have died in a French-led campaign to oust armed Islamists from the north of the country.

Lawmakers were nearly unanimous in asking government to withdraw its 2,250 troops "within a reasonable timeframe".

Speaking at the session, Prime Minister Dadnadji Djimrangar said: "We paid a heavy price for this noble mission."

Experienced soldiers from the regional military heavyweight Chad who are used to fighting in harsh desert terrain played a key role in helping French troops battle Islamists snuffies in northern Mali.

La Belle France in January swept to the aid of Mali's ill-disciplined and poorly trained army and, with the aid of other African troops, has largely succeeded in driving Islamist snuffies from the north.

However pockets of resistance remain, particularly in the Gao region. At least three Chadian soldiers died Friday in a suicide kaboom in Kidal, northeast of Gao.

In addition to the 36 dead and 74 maimed, Chad spent 57 billion CFA francs (87 million euros, $114 million) for its three-month contribution to the campaign, Djimrangar said.

Chadian President Idriss Deby told French journalists on Sunday: "The face-to-face war with the jihadists is over. The Chadian army has no real competence to confront an unknown. The Chadian soldiers will return to Chad; they have accomplished their mission."

He noted that Chad would contribute troops to a U.N. force in Mali if asked.

Afghanistan

[Dawn] A delegation of Afghan army officials, headed by Director General Military Operations (DGMO) Afghan National Army Major General Afzal Aman, visited General Headquarters (GHQ) and met Major General Ashfaq Nadeem Ahmed, DGMO Pakistain Army for talks over border coordination issues.

The meeting was held in a cordial environment, said a statement issued by the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR).

were discussed and amicably resolved.

Both sides agreed on continuation of such bilateral interactions to enhance bilateral border coordination and reduce space for detractors.

Meanwhile,

hundreds of Afghan university students in the eastern city of Jalalabad also erupted into the streets on Monday to protest the building of the Pak military gate in what the Afghan defence ministry says is inside Afghanistan.

The incident is the latest in rising tensions between the two sides, whose attempts to lure the Taliban to the peace table have stalled amid their feuding.

China-Japan-Koreas
N.Korea Rejects Talks Offer
North Korea on Sunday dismissed as a "cunning ploy" President Park Geun-hye's offer of talks to ease tensions.

A spokesman for the North's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland was quoted by the official KCNA news agency as saying Sunday the offer of dialogue is "a cunning ploy to hide the South's policy of confrontation and cover up its responsibility for putting the Kaesong Industrial Complex into a crisis."

The spokesman added the offer is an "empty shell" and dialogue "would be meaningless." He added it is entirely up to South Korea’s attitude whether or not talks take place.

A Unification Ministry official played down the snub as a "preliminary response" and added Seoul intends to "monitor the situation further."

But in a late night briefing, Joo Choel-ki, senior presidential secretary for foreign and security affairs, told reporters that the government "sincerely regrets" North Korea's response. He added that South Korean businesses in the inter-Korean Kaesong Industrial Complex are experiencing "indescribable hardships" due to North Korea's blockade of the industrial park.

Ngoshe and Agapalawa are Nigeria's border towns with Republic of Cameroon.

Also, suspected bandidos Monday raided the Pompomari, Maiduguri residence of the state former Commissioner of Poverty Alleviation and Youths Empowerment, Mr. Daniel Ijai Mamza, snatching his vehicles.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shattered spaceship, Fffflirgoll the Arcturan slithered stealthily toward the control room, where the humans had barricaded themselves...
the National Assembly is poised to bring to an end the Boko Haram sect insurgency within the next three months.

The Senate Deputy Whip, Hosea Agboola, who disclosed this to news hounds in Ibadan expressed the Senate's concern to the activities of the sect and vowed to put an end to the scourge.

In a related development, Youths in the 19 northern states, under the aegis of Arewa Youth Forum (AYF) and the former leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo yesterday cautioned the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) against any attempt to further fuel instability and disunity in the country through its fresh threat to avenge the Boko Haram attacks.

They pointed out that both the elders and the governors in the North were not entrenched to provide solution to the insurgency in the region.

In the same vein, a socio Yoruba organization, Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) has reiterated its call for a national conference.

The group described the rejection of the amnesty offer by Boko Haram as a pointer to the fact that Nigeria needed nothing other than to organise a national dialogue where all issues affecting the different nation states would be discussed.

And to check insecurity in the country, the outgoing Anglican Bishop of Lagos West Diocese, Rt. Rev. Peter Adebiyi yesterday charged governments to re-introduce and strengthen the teaching of religious studies in their respective institutions.

Real Boko Haram will accept amnesty, says Yuguda
[Guardian Ng] BAUCHI State governor, Mallam Isah Yuguda, has labelled those kicking against the amnesty package extended to Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
as criminal and politically-motivated members of the sect.

Hence, it is left for the government to deal with such members when the real Boko Haram have accepted the amnesty proposed by President Goodluck Jonathan
... 14th President of Nigeria. He was Governor of Bayelsa State from 9 December 2005 to 28 May 2007, and was sworn in as Vice President on 29 May 2007. Jonathan is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). He is a lover of nifty hats, which makes him easily recognizable unless someone else in the room is wearing a neat chapeau...

Yuguda told journalists in Lagos on Saturday that the real members of the sect, who have various problems agitating their minds, would accept the amnesty offer.

The governor also addressed other issues in the polity, denying there was crisis in the Nigerian Governors Forum and that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party would win 35 of the 36 states in the next elections.

On the matter of Boko Haram, the governor said that no true Mohammedan would pick up weapons and kill a fellow man.

He urged the government to look into joblessness and illiteracy that might have prompted the sect members to embark on unholy attacks against the people.

Maintaining that there were criminal elements among the sect pushing for rejection of the amnesty offer, the governor said: "On the issue of Boko Haram, amnesty has been given to the real Boko Haram and I believe they are willing to accept that.

"That is my belief but you know there is the criminal Boko Haram and there is the real Boko Haram. But the criminal and the political Boko Haram are the armed robbers and that arm of politicians that call themselves Boko Haram and they go about attacking people.

"Maybe, it is the criminal Boko Haram that are responding to say that they don't want amnesty because they have a different intention.

"Some of them are gunrunners, some of them are armed robbers and some of them are doing that on behalf of politicians. So, they just hide under Boko Haram and perpetrate evil."

Afghanistan
Afghanistan objects border constructions
The Afghanistan government Monday protested about unilateral construction of facilities by neighbour Pakistan along its eastern border, Xinhua reported.

"The recent construction of a gate and other facilities along the so-called Durand line took place without any coordination with Afghanistan," Afghan defence ministry spokesperson General Zahir Azimi told reporters during a joint press conference with International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) here.

"According to agreements between the two countries, before constructing any facilities close to border areas, the two sides must be informed," Azimi said adding that "Afghanistan will use all options to prevent such issues".

The ministry's comments came a day after President Hamid Karzai ordered the defence and interior ministries to take immediate action to remove a newly-constructed gate, checkpoints and other installations recently built by Pakistan along the border in Goshta district in eastern Nangarhar province, 120 km from Kabul.

The "ISAF continues to monitor the situation on the (Afghan-Pakistani) border and we remain in dialogue with the Afghan and Pakistani sides on the constructive way", said Brigadier General Gunter Katz, a spokesperson with the NATO-led ISAF, during the conference.

Earlier this month, the Pakistani side rejected the Afghan government's claim that the Pakistan military had started unilateral construction and was engaged in physical reinforcement activities along the border areas.

The victim was Robiul Islam, 19.

Shafiqul Islam, Robiul's elder brother, said Robiul had a conflict with local JCD and Jubo Dal activists over a trifling matter.

He alleged that the same attackers swooped on their house on March 31 over the issue. Robiul then filed a case against some JCD activists with Boalia Police Station in this connection.

"The attack on Robiul was in retaliation for filing of the case," Shafiqul added.

Asaduzzaman, joint secretary of Rajshahi district Awami League, said some 30 JCD and Shibir men, led by JCD activist Sayeed, attacked Robiul when he was celebrating a Pahela Baishakh programme in his locality.

The attackers stabbed him and hit him on the head with bricks, leaving him critically injured, said Ziaur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station.

Robiul was declared dead after he was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, he added.

In protest at the killing, activists of BCL and AL torched a BNP office in the city.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
2 More Rockets Land in Hermel Town as Lebanon Asks for Arab League Assistance
[An Nahar] Two more rockets fired from Syria landed on a border town in the Bekaa valley on Monday, prompting President Michel Suleiman
...before assuming office as President, he held the position of commander of the Leb Armed Forces. That was after the previous commander, the loathesome Emile Lahoud, took office as president in November of 1998. Likely the next president of Leb will be whoever's commander of the armed forces, too...
to call for a security meeting which sought Arab League
...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing...
assistance in helping Leb confront the attacks.

"The safety of any Lebanese citizen is the sole responsibility of the Lebanese state ... and any attack on Leb no matter from which side it came is rejected," Caretaker Social Affairs Minister Wael Abou Faour said in a statement he read after the security meeting was held at Baabda palace.

"The foreign ministry will make the necessary contacts to avoid the repetition of the Syrian attacks," he said.

"The army and security forces will take the measures along the border to protect the security of the Lebanese," he added.

The caretaker minister told news hounds that the foreign ministry should make the appropriate documentation and refer a memo to the vaporous Arab League to explain the nature of the Syrian cross-border attacks and help Leb in stopping them.

His remark came only in response to a question on whether the Lebanese authorities intended to file a complaint with the organization over the repeated violations of Lebanese illusory sovereignty.

"Any assault from whether the Syrian army or other sides is unacceptable and rejected," he stressed.

The statement said that the conferees also tasked the foreign ministry with calling for an extraordinary U.N. Security Council session to discuss the issue of Syrian and Paleostinian refugees in Leb.

Media reports said that a rocket landed on Monday morning on the outskirts of Sahlat al-Ma' in the town of al-Qasr that lies in northeast Leb's Hermel district.

A second rocket hit al-Qasr at 11:00 am only 40 minutes after the first attack.

No injuries were reported.

But the assault came after two rockets fired from Syria on Sunday went kaboom! in al-Qasr, killing Ali Hasan Qataya. Two more rockets landed in a nearby village of Hawsh al-Sayyed Ali, killing 13-year-old Abbas Kheireddine and damaging two homes.

Both victims were laid to rest on Monday amid widespread anger and mourning in Hermel.

Frenchman Active in Belgian Islamist Circles Killed in Syria
[An Nahar] A 38-year-old Frenchie well-known in radical Islamist circles in Belgium was killed Sunday while fighting for an Islamist brigade in Syria, Belgian media said.

Raphael Gendron left for Syria several months ago to fight with the 'Falcons of Sham' headed by Abdelrahman Ayachi who was maimed Sunday and who is the son of Syrian-born radical Imam Bassam Ayachi, the SudPresse newspaper group said in a report on its website.

Belga news agency, citing a relative, confirmed Gendron's death.

Gendron had lived in Belgium for several years and was active at the Assabyle Islamic Center in Belgium (CIB) headed by Ayachi senior, aged 68. He ran its website and in 2009 was fined for inciting hatred for a video posted on a CIB webpage.

The same year he and Ayachi senior were placed in durance vile

Two US nuke plants tighten security after blasts
Power stations about 70 kilometers from Boston

WASHINGTON — Nuclear power plants in Massachusetts and New Hampshire have increased security after two bombs exploded in Boston on Monday, killing at least two people and injuring dozens. The Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and the Seabrook Station in Seabrook, New Hampshire, heightened checks of vehicles, materials and individuals entering the plants.

Pilgrim, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) south of Boston, was already shut down for refueling when the explosions occurred. Seabrook is about 45 miles (72.4 kilometers) north of Boston in Seabrook, New Hampshire.

Eliot Brenner, a spokesman for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, said federal officials have not ordered changes in security at other US nuclear reactors in the wake of the Boston explosions.

Jordan Tries Four Syrians for Entry with Arms
[An Nahar] A Jordanian military tribunal on Monday opened the trial of four Syrians placed in durance vile

in September as they tried to cross into the kingdom heavily armed, a court official said.

"The armed forces arrested the four Syrians in a border village last year in September as they tried to cross into Jordan," the official told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"They were carrying 13 hand grenades, 12 detonators, two AK-47 Kalashnikovs and other weapons," which are banned in Jordan. The four men face life sentences if found guilty.

The official did not give other details on their case but said that the trial in Amman "was adjourned until April 29 because the suspects did not have lawyers to represent them."

Jordan says it hosting around 500,000 Syrian refugees.

In September, military prosecutors charged eight Syrians with "unlawful assembly" after riots at the Zaatari refugee camp in northern Jordan.

Arabia
Gen. Tarek Mohammed Saleh denies involvement in Friday Massacre
[Yemen Post] Gen. Tarek Mohammed Saleh, former President President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
's nephew and former Commander in Chief of the Presidential Guards denied recent allegations made by the press he had any involvement in Friday Massacre.

Back in March 2011, at the very heart of the Yemeni revolution the security forces opened fire onto protesters, killing in one single day over 40 unarmed civilians. Hundreds more were sent to hospital, injured.

Rights activists and Youth groups have been campaigning ever since to see the culprits brought to justice. It is widely believed that those closest to former President-for-Life Saleh
... exemplifying the Arab's propensity to combine brutality with incompetence...
, ordered the state security apparatus to ruthlessly kill off the revolution.

Both Gen. Yehia Mohammed Saleh and Gen. Tarek Mohammed Saleh, respectively the former Head of Yemen Central Security Forces and Presidential Guards were singled out by revolutionaries and accused of war crimes.

Last week both Emirati-based and Yemeni-based newspapers alleged officers had during an official inquiry admitted having received their order directly from Gen. Tarek Saleh.

The general is now categorically rejecting the allegations.

Although the transition government promised justice would be served and all deaths avenged, activists fear President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi's latest decisions to appoint former President Saleh's closed family members to diplomatic posts abroad will prevent the judiciary from doing its work.

And indeed, it would be legally impossible for any judge to indict any former officials,no matter the amount of proof brought forward if they are covered by diplomatic immunity.

Mubarak Release Ordered over Killings, Held on Other Charges
[An Nahar] An Egyptian court on Monday ordered the release of former president Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
over the deaths of protesters but he will remain in jug pending investigation into fraud charges, state media reported.

The Cairo Court of Appeal ordered Mubarak's release after the expiry of the maximum temporary detention of two years, the reports said. He had been granted a retrial in the murder case, appealing against a life sentence.

Mubarak, who ruled Egypt for three decades, was ousted in a popular uprising in 2011.

He has been under arrest since April 2011 charged with complicity in the murder and attempted murder of hundreds of peaceful protesters on January 25-31, 2011. He is also facing several charges of corruption.

Defence lawyer Farid al-Dib made the case for his release on the grounds that Mubarak has spent two years in jug.

Netanyahu Says Israel Won't Yield to 'Subhuman Terrorists'
[An Nahar] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday Israel would not give in to "subhuman terrorists," as the Jewish state honored its slain soldiers and civilians killed in bad turban attacks.

Netanyahu, at a ceremony at the Mount Herzl national cemetery, pointed to the case of Israeli toddler Adele Biton, still at death's door after being hurt in a stone-throwing attack on her mother's car in the West Bank a month ago.

"As if anyone needed it we got a reminder that a stone is a lethal weapon," he said.

"The terror of stones thrown in an ambush joins the terror of petrol bombs, the terror of knives, the terror of shots and missiles, bombs, boom-mobiles and suicide kabooms," Netanyahu said.

"But we shall not retreat, not surrender, not give in ... Terror is not a blow from above, it is the work of humans, or subhumans. We shall defeat them."

In a Memorial Day ceremony at a military cemetery in Tel Aviv, Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon said that peace was nowhere to be seen on Israel's horizon.

"Terrorist attacks, the firing of rockets at civilian populations and delegitimization campaigns are the challenges which stand before us in the years to come, they will accompany us for the foreseeable future and they will force us to respond with a firm hand," Yaalon said.

55% Say Their Taxes are Fair - 50% Pay No Income Tax - Doh!
This Tax Day, 55% of Americans regard the income taxes they have to pay as fair, the lowest percentage Gallup has measured since 2001.

The poll also finds half of Americans saying their income taxes are "too high," with most of the rest (45%) saying they are about right. Two percent believe their taxes are "too low."

Although a majority of Americans still believe the income taxes they pay are fair, the 55% who say so is the lowest Gallup has measured since 2001, before the first of two rounds of federal income tax cuts went into effect. Since the second round of tax cuts in 2003, income taxes have held at about the same level, though Congress and the president did agree to raise income taxes on the wealthiest Americans as part of the agreement to avoid the "fiscal cliff" tax increases that were scheduled to go into effect this year.

Bangladesh
EXTORTION, ATTACK ON NEWSMEN: BCL expels 11
[Bangla Daily Star] Bangladesh Chhatra League
... the student wing of the Bangla Awami League ...
yesterday expelled 11 activists of its Dhaka University Salimullah Mohammedan Hall unit for assaulting five journalists and indulging in extortion in the wee hours of Pahela Baishakh on campus.

The activists include second-year students Shamim Ahmed of English department, Oitijhya of history, Asif Uddin Ahmed of journalism, Tanvir Ahmed of finance, Shahin Mia of economics and Shadat of law, and Taposh.

Third-year student Pikul and forth-year students Nahid, Hasan and masters' student Obaydur were also among the expelled.

However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
the university authorities have identified 21 Chhatra League activists involved in the assault and handed six of them over to Shahbagh police.

According to witnesses, a group of 10 to 12 pro-Awami League student body Chhatra League activists were extorting from cars, rickshaws, auto-rickshaws and other vehicles on the campus' Fuller Road since midnight Saturday on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh.

When university correspondents of media houses approached them to know as to what they were doing and their identity, they claimed that they were activists of Chhatra League's Salimullah Mohammedan Hall unit.

When the journalists were asking Asif Uddin Ahmed why he was extorting people, his cohorts brought sticks from the dormitory along with 15 more men and began beating up the journalists.

They assaulted daily Prothom Alo correspondent Ahmed Zayeef, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha correspondent Maloy Kumar Dutta, bdnews 24.com correspondent Sujon Mondol, The Daily Star correspondent Protik Chakrabarty and third year journalism student Dulal Samaddar.

They also attacked Prothom Alo senior correspondent Shariful Hasan when he tried to save the journalists.

About an hour later, University Proctor Amzad Ali, Chhatra League university unit President Mehedi Hasan and General Secretary Omar Sharif went to the spot and identified the six second-year students of the dormitory responsible for extortion.

All of them admitted to extortion and mentioned the names of about 15 others who had attacked the journalists.

DU Proctor Amzad said the university would form a probe body to look into the incident.

Central Chhatra League said it has formed a five-member probe body to investigate the incident.

Two MB officials face kidnapping and torture charges in Egypt
CAIRO — Two Muslim Brotherhood officials have been sent to trial on charges of kidnapping and torturing three men during protests in November following Islamist President Mohammed Mursi’s decrees, since rescinded, that granted him near absolute powers.

The case in the Nile Delta city of Damanhour north of Cairo is the first of its kind against Mursi’s Brotherhood and is likely to embarrass the group at a time it is trying to fend off opposition charges of monopolising power in the deeply polarised country.

Mohammed Bahnasy, a lawyer for the three victims, told the Associated Press on Sunday that the case was referred to trial a day earlier. The two Brotherhood local officials — Mustafa El Khouli and Mohammed Abdel-Radi — have not been detained.
Of course not.
An arrest warrant has been issued for El Khouli, who has failed to respond to a summons for questioning, according to Bahnasy. Abdel-Radi was questioned and released pending the start of the trial, according to him and another lawyer involved in the case, Mohammed Abdel-Aziz.

The Brotherhood’s chief lawyer, Abdel-Monaim Abdel-Maqsoud, said the decision to refer the two to trial was “hurried” and described the investigation as “flawed”. He told the AP that defence witnesses showed up at the prosecutors’ office on Saturday to testify that El Khouli and Abdel-Radi were innocent, only to be told it was too late.

“Everything will now have to wait for the trial,” he said. “I am surprised at the speed with which this has been done. We have many cases of Brotherhood victims of violence and we have not seen any of them go to trial yet,” said Abdel-Maqsoud.

He confirmed that the case against the two was the first of its kind since the ouster two years ago of autocrat Hosni Mubarak.

Bahnasy said the three men allegedly kidnapped and tortured were Mahmoud Ali, 17, Mohammed Mansour, 18, and Mustafa Farag, 21. He said the three were detained separately for up to five hours during clashes between supporters and opponents of Mursi at Damanhour’s main square on November 24.

El Khouli was identified by Bahnasy and Abdel-Aziz as the administrative head of the Brotherhood’s office in Damanhour. They said Abdel-Radi is a senior member of the local branch of the Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party. The two were sent to court following a two-day sit-in by the three victims and their supporters outside Damanhour’s prosecution office to protest against what they claimed was stalling on a trial.

The Damanhour case is just one of a series of bouts of political violence in the turmoil roiling Egypt since the overthrow of Mubarak’s regime in February 2011.

Gunmen kill 11, burn houses in fresh Plateau crises
[Guardian Ng] FRESH crises in different parts of Plateau State have resulted in the death of 11 persons and the burning of houses.

After a resumed attack on Wase Tofa village, four bodies of the victims were found Monday floating on River Wase.

According to an eyewitness, Dauda John, "four people were picked up from Wase River today. The gunnies came and started firing into the air to drive the people from their houses. That was how it all happened."

Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Yiljap Abraham, the Commander of the Special Task Force (STF), Major-General Henry Ayoola and the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Olakpe, were in Wase on Friday last week for the restoration of peace and normality in the council.

That last week attack on Wase left about 25 people dead but Abraham denied the casualty figure, saying that it was 18.

Also on Friday night, three persons were reported killed in Kanana village in Langtang South by unidentified gunnies in their resumed hostilities.

It was learnt that unknown gunnies on Friday night at Turaki Ward in Langtang South stormed the area and sacked the village killing a woman and her daughter but the husband escaped unhurt. The gunnies carted away his cows.

The sleeping and isolated Maza Ward in Jos North Local Council was also attacked on Friday night by unidentified gunnies who killed two harmless indigenes of the area. Reports say that the gunnies came in and started shooting indiscriminately and two people eventually fell to their bullets.

It was further learnt that the villagers deserted their homes and farmlands and took refuge in the nearby bush and hills. According to an eyewitness from Maza, "You know at that time there was a heavy rainfall in Maza when the gunnies came. They started shooting so that people could come out from their huts and houses. There were no coppers around to rescue us.

"Soldiers of the STF who were initially stationed in this area were withdrawn a week earlier before this incident happened. Maza is situated in a valley and people don't even know that something like that exists. No access road except that the government wants to open one road to link Maza to the town in Jos.

"The security people had been here for quite a long time now. But there seemed be no work for them because the place is quiet. So, they were withdrawn, as peace seemed to reign here. Not more than one week that they were withdrawn, the gunnies came shooting and people had to abandon their homes for the hills inside the heavy rain. People stayed in the bush in the rain."

The Spokesman of the Special Task Force, Capt. Salisu Ibrahim Mustapha, confirmed that there was an attack in Tofa along Wase, "where a man was ambushed and this resulted in a reprisal attack and many houses were burnt."

But Mustapha said that normality had returned while the situation was being closely monitored.

On Maza attack, Mustapha said that "what happened there was not an attack but rituals being carried out by the hunters there. People heard gunshots especially during these times of insecurity and they started running helter-skelter. I am not aware that people were killed in the process."

Abraham had earlier identified criminality as the major factor responsible for the recent breakdown of violence and hostility in some parts of the state particularly in Wase, Kanam, Langtang North and Langtang South axis.

The commissioner who described the talks he had with the traditional rulers, security chiefs and authorities of Kanam, Wase, Langtang North and Langtang South as frank and comprehensive, added that they focused on analysing the factors that led to the intensification of the violence in those areas as well as the tension they had been witnessing.

But the Centre for Advocacy of Justice and Rights, a Jos-based non-governmental organization, lamented that for more than a decade now, the state had suffered a series of attacks such as ethno-religious crises leading to a huge loss of lives and property.

The Programme Manager of the centre, Mr. Adeniran Joseph, said that this pointed to the fact that there would be hunger in the state, increase in poverty, high rate of crime and Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV).

"Also, the democratic structure of the state and the dividends of democracy may once more be lost, " he said.

Syria Rebels Confirm Shelling Bekaa, Hizbullah Buries More Fighters
[An Nahar] Syrian rebel commanders have confirmed beturbanned goons had fired shells into Hermel towns on Saturday and Sunday, but denied there were any attacks on Monday.

"Yesterday (Sunday), Hizbullah bombarded Qusayr, Nahriyeh, Burhaniyeh and Saqarji (near the Lebanese border) from its positions in al-Qasr and Hawsh al-Sayyed Ali. They bombed civilians and killed many women and kiddies," said Abu Oday, a commander of the rebel Independent Farouq Division.

"If we have to, we will target civilians just like they do. Our civilians are not less valuable than theirs. Hizbullah is killing arbitrarily in Syria," he told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"Yesterday, we responded. We hit back at Hizbullah's positions," he added.

Another rebel leader, Abu Ahmed, said beturbanned goons did not fire into Leb on Monday.

"We are giving the Lebanese authorities an opportunity to respond, to take practical steps to put a stop to their shelling, before we respond again."

Meanwhile,
...back at the the precinct, Lieutenant Queeg was stumped. Who could be leaking Mahoney's information like that?...
residents of the Bekaa valley, a Hizbullah stronghold, told AFP that the bodies of five Hizbullah fighters killed in Syria were brought back on Sunday and Monday for burial.

"Yesterday, we buried a Hizbullah martyr, Assaad Ali Assaad, who was killed in Syria some days ago," said a resident of Khraybeh in the Bekaa.

A security source in southern Leb meanwhile told AFP on condition of anonymity that four other fighters from the region had also been killed in Syria.

Future TV reported that Hizbullah held funerals Monday for Ibrahim Jawdat Qansou, who hails from the southern town of Doueir, and Abbas Rihan, who hails from the southern town of Maifadoun, saying they were killed in Syria.

Several Lebanese and Arab TV networks -- including Al-Arabiya, al-Mayadeen and al-Manar -- on Monday broadcast a video showing masked fighters belonging to the so-called Popular Committees, which are backed by Hizbullah and the Syrian regime.

The gunnies on the edge of the Lebanese border village of al-Qasr told the News Agency that Dare Not be Named that their mission is to protect Shiites on the Syrian side who claim their homes, villages and families have come under attack from Sunni rebels.

India-Pakistan
Enemies within: Need for vigilance
[Dawn] A POLICE inspector's arrest in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
on Friday for allegedly supplying sensitive information to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain and other criminals, the round-up of many suspects in a clean-up operation, the deactivation of a time-bomb near a mosque, and the arrest of an Abbas Town blast suspect show how diligence can yield results. Police Inspector Rana Ishrat is not the first security official accused of supplying forces of Evil with sensitive intelligence. Diverse motives have prompted some armed forces personnel to pass on information to those who attack security and civilian targets. Some did it for ideological reasons; some apparently were trapped, while in this case it was lucre that allegedly motivated the policeman to pass on the information. In fact, as investigations have revealed, the tips he supplied to some groups of outlaws led to the murder of an assistant sub-inspector of police. As Rana Ishrat visited Fata, he was unaware that his movements were being watched. His activity had a wider range, because the intelligence he was leaking to the TTP and others aimed at eliminating some of Karachi's top police officials, including the chief of the Anti-Violent Crime Cell, to which he himself belonged.
Tut tut, my good man. Smacks of McCarthyism if you ask me.
The penetration of the security forces is one of the beturbanned goons' major tactical aims. The attempts on Gen Musharraf's life and the attacks on GHQ and other military bases show the enemy had collaborators within the security establishment. This calls for high-level vigilance to block the beturbanned goons' penetration of the security apparatus and weed out the state's enemies. Rangers may be good at 'clean-up' operations, but it is the local police and the Crime Investigation Department that know their areas well and are in a better position to trail criminals and smash mafias.
