Toxins in BBQ fumes can be absorbed through the skin, study shows
When you fire up the grill for your Memorial Day cookout, beware: Those tantalizing aromas hold an underestimated health risk.
So the reporter is a budding liberal I see.
Grilling meats at a high temperature can produce cancer-causing compounds called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, or PAHs. You can be exposed to significant PAH levels simply by breathing in the sweet scent of barbecue.
No mention of contributing to gerbil worming? They must have given up.
A new study from China suggests letting your skin come into contact with PAHs when you grill food is even more harmful than just savoring the aroma. And clothing won't fully protect you against them.

PAHs can cause lung disease and DNA mutations, the researchers said. Though eating barbecued meats is the most common source of exposure, just standing near a grill and breathing PAH-contaminated air can be risky, previous studies have shown.
Ask me if I care, PETA-member cow-fart denier.
For the latest study, published May 23 in Environmental Science & Technology, a team led by Eddy Y. Zeng at Jinan University closely examined skin exposure to PAHs from barbecue fumes and particles.

The researchers divided volunteers into groups based on various levels of exposure to grilled foods and smoke.

Urine samples revealed the greatest PAH exposure came from eating grilled foods, but skin contact was in second place, followed by inhalation of barbecue fumes.
Are you going to eat the rest of that steak?
Clothes can help protect you from the smoke, but only for a short period, the researchers noted in a journal news release. Once fabrics become saturated with contaminated smoke, the skin can absorb high PAH levels.
I like to hang my clean clothes on the clothesline and position the BBQ so they're downwind.
To reduce your exposure to these toxic compounds, the researchers recommend laundering clothes immediately after you are around a grill.
That kinda defeats the purpose.
"Here, have a shot of Liquid Smoke"

#3  Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons? PAH!, I say. Given that we've been eating BBQ ever since the invention of fire we should all be dead by now.

Also, what if we launder the steak immediately after cooking? If it works for clothes, it should work for meat, right?

Syria: Iran, Hezbollah presence not up for discussion
[PRESSTV] Syria’s deputy foreign minister has hailed Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement’s assistance to Damascus in its counter-terrorism fight, saying the pair’s withdrawal from the Arab country is not up for discussion.

"This topic is not even on the agenda of discussion, since it concerns the illusory sovereignty of Syria. We cannot let anyone even raise this issue," Faisal Mekdad told Russia’s Sputnik news agency on Wednesday.

He also said that those who demanded the pullout of the Iranian military advisers and Hezbollah forces from Syria "are considering the possibility of intervention in all parts of Syria, including the support of snuffies in Syria and elsewhere in the region."

Iran offers Syria advisory military support in its fight against terrorism. Hezbollah forces have also been aiding the Syrian government clear areas bordering Leb from terrorist groups.

On Monday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo threatened Iran with the "strongest sanctions in history" if it does not comply with a list of 12 US demands, including the withdrawal of "all forces under Iranian command throughout the entirety of Syria."

A Suicide Car Bomber Targets Somali Army Convoy In Afgoye
[RADIOSHABELLE] A suicide boom-mobileer from Somalia’s Islamist group al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
hit a military convoy outside Mogadishu Tuesday, causing an unknown number of deaths.

The attack targeting a passing military convoy occurred in Afgoye, a district about 30 km northwest of Mogadishu, police officer Maj. Abdiqadir Ali said.

"What we are sure [of] is a military vehicle was hit," Ali said, adding there were casualties but the corpse count had not yet been determined.

Al-Shabaab’s military operations front man Abdiasis Abu Musab told Rooters they were responsible for the attack.

The group, an ally of al-Qaeda, is fighting to topple the country’s western-backed central government and impose its rule based on its own interpretation of sharia law.

Al-Shabaab also wants to force out an African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
-mandated AMISOM peacekeeping force that is helping defend the government of President Mohammad Abdullahi Mohammad.

"One of our mujahideen [was] martyred after he rammed his car into a Somali military convoy," Abu Musab said.

One military pick-up truck was destroyed while 12 soldiers were killed by the blast, he said and added that a second vehicle in the convoy was also damaged.

The soldiers in the convoy were U.S.-trained Somali military commandoes. al-Shabaab have targeted them on the same road several times in the past.

Heavy artillery strikes pound Taliban positions in Ghazni
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan armed forces pounded the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
positions with heavy artillery strikes in response to the group’s coordinated attack on Ajristan district in Ghazni.

The 203rd Thunder Corps of the Afghan Military in the Southeast said the Afghan armed forces in coordination with the other security personnel targeted the Taliban positions with heavy artillery strikes to respond to the Taliban attacks.

The source further added that the Taliban positions were targeted in Ajristan, Deh and Gilan districts as part of the Shaheen-1 operations launched in response to Taliban attacks.

The Thunder Corps also added that at least 27 Taliban murderous Moslems were killed and 15 others sustained injuries during the operations while a rocket launcher, 6 hand grenades, and 6 improvised bombs were destroyed.

At least one Afghan soldier also lost his life in the attack and two others were maimed, the Thunder Corps added.

This comes as the provincial council and Ghazni politicians said that the Taliban murderous Moslems launched coordinated attack on Ajristan and Deh Yak districts sparking fierce festivities on Monday night that lasted until Tuesday morning.

According to the officials, several members of the security forces bit the dust during the festivities with the Taliban Death Eaters, including two senior police officials.

Terror groups moving to Afghanistan from Syria, claims Russian defense minister
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu has claimed that the terror groups are moving to Afghanistan from Syria as he emphasizes on bolstering the capabilities of the Uzbekistan security forces.

Shoigu reportedly made the remarks during his meeting with his Uzbek counterpart Abdusalom Azizov.

Emphasizing that military cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan is totally specific and important, Shoigu said "It refers, first and foremost, to the risks and threats coming from areas bordering Uzbekistan."

"In this regard, one cannot but point to the growing threat of international terrorism that has been moving from Syria to other countries, including Uzbekistan," he was quoted as saying by TASS News Agency.

"We cannot say that the situation in Afghanistan is getting safer and more stable as groups leaving Syria are particularly moving to Afghanistan. That said, it is highly important to train the military that would be able to protect the state in case the need arises," the Russian defense minister said.

This comes as reports emerged earlier suggesting that the ISIS holy warriors are attempting to travel to Afghanistan from Syria and Iraq.

Rohingya militants massacred Hindus: Amnesty International
[DAWN] Rohingya faceless myrmidons massacred Hindu villagers during last year’s uprising in Myanmar’s Rakhine, Amnesty International said on Tuesday in a report that sheds fresh light on the complex ethnic rivalries in the state.

The killings took place on Aug 25, 2017, the report said, the same day that the Rohingya bandidos Death Eaters staged coordinated deadly raids on police posts that tipped the state into crisis.

Myanmar’s military responded to the Death Eater raids with harsh reprisals.

The UN says the army crackdown amounted to "ethnic cleansing" of the Rohingya, with soldiers and vigilante mobs accused of killing civilians and burning down villages.

But the Rohingya faceless myrmidons have also been accused of abuses.

Those include the mass killing of Hindus in the far north of Rakhine, where the military took news hounds ‐ including AFP ‐ to witness the exhumation of putrid bodies from a grave in September.

The holy warriors, known as the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), denied responsibility at the time.

But Amnesty International said on Tuesday that a new investigation had confirmed the group killed 53 Hindus "execution-style" ‐ mostly children ‐ in the Kha Maung Seik village cluster in northern Maungdaw.

Lions of Islam have kidnapped and executed a tribal chief in Iraq’s Kirkuk as the province continues to record security breaches by the group against civilians and security members.

Alsumaria News quoted a security source saying that an armed IS group invaded late Tuesday a home in the village of Kanaan, al-Riyadh, southwest of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
and kidnapped the village’s chief, Mahguob Khalaf, before executing him by gunfire.

Several tribal chiefs have been assassinated by IS over the past few months after the group lost control over all of the territories they had occupied since 2014.

During its occupation of Iraqi territories, IS had used to execute civilians for fleeing its strongholds or for cooperating with Iraqi security forces.

Iraq declared the recapture of IS strongholds in Kirkuk in October, and a final victory over the group in all of Iraq in December. But since then, the group has staged several attacks against civilians and security forces.

N. Korea threatens to walk away from planned summit with U.S.
North Korea will reconsider the planned summit with the United States if Washington sticks to "unlawful and outrageous acts," its vice foreign minister said Thursday.

In a statement carried by the Korean Central News Agency, Choe Son-hui, a North Korean vice foreign minister, said that whether the June 12 summit between its leader Kim Jong-un and U.S. President Donald Trump will happen as scheduled entirely rests on the decision and behavior of the U.S.

"Whether the U.S. will meet us at a meeting room or encounter us at nuclear-to-nuclear showdown is entirely dependent upon the decision and behavior of the United States," Choe said.

"In case the U.S. offends against our goodwill and clings to unlawful and outrageous acts, I will put forward a suggestion to our supreme leadership for reconsidering the DPRK-U.S. summit," she added.

Choe singled out U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, lambasting him for mentioning a Libya-style approach and military option against the North in a recent media interview.

"U.S. Vice-President Pence has made unbridled and impudent remarks that North Korea might end like Libya, military option for North Korea never came off the table, the U.S. needs complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization, and so on," she said. "As a person involved in the U.S. affairs, I cannot suppress my surprise at such ignorant and stupid remarks gushing out from the mouth of the U.S. vice-president."

It would be interesting to see the result of a NORK missile test right about now.

Hamas chief boasts of Tehran’s support, close ties to Hezbollah
[IsraelTimes] Yahya Sinwar, terror group's Gazoo leader, lauds 'strong, powerful and warm' relations with Iranian general thought behind recent rocket attack on Israeli troops from Syria

The leader of the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror group in the Gazoo Strip has boasted about the large amounts of cash, equipment and expertise it has received from Iran and said the organization is in touch with the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group in Leb "on an almost daily basis."

Speaking to Leb’s pro-Hezbollah al-Mayadeen TV channel on Monday, Yahya Sinwar also lauded the "strong, powerful and warm" ties Hamas enjoys with Qassem Soleimani
, who heads the Islamic Revolutionary Guards’s Quds Force tasked with operations outside of Iran.

In excerpts from the interview, translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute, Sinwar claimed that Hamas had "greatly developed its capabilities" thanks to friends, "first and foremost the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran," which was giving "a lot of money, equipment and expertise" to the group’s military arm, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, as well as to other factions in the coastal enclave.

"We have excellent relations with our brothers in Hezbollah," he went on. "Our relations with them are extremely developed. We work together and coordinate and are in touch on an almost daily basis. The relations are at the best stage ever."

"Similarly, our ties with the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran, with brother Qassem Soleimani and the other brothers in the IRGC leadership, are very strong, powerful and warm."

Asked by the interviewer whether Hamas would provide Israel with "unprecedented surprises" if it attacked the Strip, Sinwar said, "Absolutely."

ATC wants to know when army will hand Uzair over to jail authorities
[DAWN] KARACHI: An antiterrorism court has asked the provincial home department to inform it as to when will the military authorities shift the custody of Uzair Jan Baloch, the chief of the defunct Peoples Aman Committee (PAC), back to prison.

Nearly 62 criminal cases are pending trial against Uzair and others before different antiterrorism courts in the judicial complex.

The ATC-VI judge, who is conducting trial of a case pertaining to kidnapping and murder of a policeman against Uzair and others, sent a letter to the registrar of the provincial home department.

The letter stated that the custody of Uzair was shifted from the Central Prison Bloody Karachi

to the Army’s Crops-V in Karachi on April 11, 2017 in the presence of the Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate-XI (South) for investigation in an explosives and arms case.

"Due to non-presence of accused Uzair Jan Baloch during the trial before this court, due to said reasons, the case pertaining to year 2012 could not be proceeded," stated the letter, a copy of which is available with Dawn.

"It is further directed that confirmation is required regarding the production of custody of accused Uzair Jan Baloch for hearing on each date before this court or may inform any time limit to this court regarding shifting the custody of the said accused from 5 Crops Karachi to Central Prison Karachi to avoid any further impediment," it added. group on Tuesday, a day after the jihadists’ ouster from the outskirts of Damascus, a monitor said.

"At least 26 regime soldiers and allied forces were killed in an IS attack at dawn today, against one of their posts in the Syrian Badiya," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Among them were Iranian militiamen, said the Britannia-based monitor.

The Badiya is a vast desert region stretching from central Syria to the eastern border with Iraq, where IS still holds small pockets.

Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said the attack hit a small base east of Palmyra, the famed ancient city that IS has overrun twice in Syria’s war.

"It began with a boom-mobile targeting regime forces that set off festivities that are still ongoing," he said. Five IS fighters were also killed.

"IS fighters launched their attack from a pocket they control in the Badiya, and which was the destination for IS fighters evacuated from southern Damascus on Sunday and Monday," Abdel Rahman added.

US warplanes hit Syrian army bases in Dayr al-Zawr province
[PRESSTV] US-led coalition warplanes have targeted several Syrian military positions in the country's eastern Dayr al-Zawr province.

"Some of our military positions between Albu Kamal and Hmeimeh were hit this morning in an aggression by American coalition warplanes," the Syrian official news agency, SANA, quoted a military source as saying on early Thursday.

The source added that no casualties were caused by the attacks that only resulted in "material damage."

The US-led coalition has been conducting Arclight airstrikes against what are said to be ISIS targets inside Syria since September 2014 without any authorization from the Damascus government or a UN mandate.

UN condemns Israel's deadly actions on Gaza fence
[PRESSTV] The United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Middle East envoy has stressed that "Gazoo is on the verge of collapse."

Nikolay Mladenov gave the warning while addressing the UN Security Council on Wednesday, where he called for urgent action to relieve the suffering of Gazoo's "increasingly desperate" people.

He added that people of Gazoo were living with "crippling Israeli closures and with diminishing hopes for an end to the occupation and a political solution."

"Gazoo's infrastructure teeters on the verge of total collapse, particularly its electricity and water networks as well as its health system," he noted.

Mladenov further called on the international community to join "in condemning in the strongest possible terms the actions that have led to the loss of so many lives in Gazoo" since March.

Israeli forces killed at least 62 Paleostinians during protests near the Gazoo fence on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Nakba Day (Day of Catastrophe), which coincided with Washington’s embassy relocation from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem al-Quds.

More than 2,700 Paleostinians were also maimed as the Israeli forces used snipers, Arclight airstrikes, tank fire and tear gas to target the demonstrators.

Alaska jail sued for feeding Muslims pork, starving them in Ramadan
[PRESSTV] Moslem inmates at a jail in the US state of Alaska are being "starved" and given pork products during Ramadan, a new lawsuit claims.

For one thing, Moslem prisoners are given food with substantially lower calories compared to other inmates, said the Council on American-Islamic Relations
... the Moslem Brüderbund's American arm ...
(CAIR) in the federal lawsuit filed on Wednesday.

"Officials at the Anchorage Correctional Complex have provided Moslem inmates with less than half the calories they require -- as little as 500 calories on some days ‐ which amounts to a starvation diet."

Moslems observing the holy month eat and drink only between sundown and sunrise, but the inmates fall victim to discriminatory behavior from authorities who deny them Halal meals.

This is while officials at the prison are constitutionally forbidden from "compelling inmates to choose between their faith and food."

"We hope that a court will do what Anchorage Correctional Complex officials will not: ensure that Moslem inmates are not starved or forced to violate the principles of their faith during the holy month of Ramadan," Lena Masri, the national litigation director for CAIR, said in a statement.

The Alaska Department of Corrections has not yet commented on the lawsuit.

CAIR has demanded a court order for "adequate nutrition, free of pork products" for the prisoners.

TRUMP WINS AGAIN! NFL changes national anthem policy to show respect of the flag
More on this story from yesterday.
[Twitchy] The money shot:
"A club will be fined by the League if its personnel are on the field and do not stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem."
The NFLPA shotgun to the foot response:
"The NFL chose to not consult the union in the development of this new "policy." NFL players have shown their patriotism through their social activism, their community service, in support of our military and lawe nforcement and yes, through their protests to raise awareness about the issues they care about.

The vote by NFL club CEOs today contradicts the statements made to our player leadership by Commissioner Roger Goodell and the Chairman of the NFL's Management Council John Mara about the principles, values and patriotism of our League.

Our union will review the new "policy" and challenge any aspect of it that is inconsistent with the collective bargaining agreement."
This is gonna' be fun!

Nope, found my freedom, not going back to the crazy ex.

Nothing to do with Trump, tipping point for me was/is the Jovan Belcher. Is, because they dug him up after a couple years and did a brain exam and found that some dude who had been drink'n and coke'n hard for 10-15 years, and especially hard the night of the murder-suicide, may have some brain injury from football which made him susceptible to NRA brainwashing.

Zimbabwe: Poll Reruns, Shamu Sacking
[All Africa] Webster Shamu's sacking as Mashonaland West provincial affairs minister suggests President Emmerson Mnangagwa was still too grateful to those who helped him get into power to a point of allowing them to negatively influence some government decisions.

Mnangagwa took the bold decision Monday to fire a sitting minister from his government.

Although no reasons were given, Shamu's name has been linked to alleged rigging in Zanu PF's primaries which saw presidential advisor Mutsvangwa suffer an embarrassing defeat to a party competitor recently.

Fears abound that Mutsvangwa and vice president Constantino Chiwenga wield too much negative influence on Mnangagwa.

"I don't think it's about negative things," said political analyst Rejoice Ngwenya while speaking to NewZim-bob-we.com.

"It's more like Mnangagwa owes Chiwenga a lot, so he is bound to bend. Everything else is political gamesmanship, because ED is closer to people than the soldiers.

"He can always argue about the 'Voice of God'. Shamu is a political baby pamper, a disposable one."'

But Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu denied the President was being remote controlled, saying the latter's light approach to governance issues was being misconstrued.

"The president can choose to appoint or disappoint," Mpofu said, before going overboard in Mnangagwa praise.

Saudi Arabia Sentences ‘Secret Cell’ Accused of Supporting ISIS, Killing Two Security Men
[AAWSAT] The Saudi judiciary is prosecuting a "secret cell" accused of supporting ISIS, being involved in the killing of two coppers and attempting to target officers in the Interior Ministry and coppers at checkpoints.

The Specialized Criminal Court in Riyadh held a hearing session on the prosecutor general's case against 14 defendants, 12 of whom were Saudis, one Syrian and one Sudanese.

According to the lawsuit, two bandidos turbans participated in the formation of a terrorist cell belonging to a secret armed organization.

The cell aims at shedding blood, destabilizing the internal security in the country, killing coppers, assaulting public property and destroying it, carrying out acts of sabotage and chaos, seeking to cause strife and division in the country and communicating with terrorist elements in the Kingdom and abroad.

The lawsuit confirmed that the defendants assassinated two coppers after they were deliberately shot by a machine gun while carrying out their work in a security patrol.

They also targeted a senior officer, an officer of the Ministry of Interior and security personnel working at the Sultana checkpoint, coppers at Raghba cop shoppe and the visitors of the tourist sites in Raghba center to destabilize the security of the country.

One of the accused made explosive grenades (Molotov) to use them in disrupting the internal security. He also trained in his father's farm to engage in booby-traps, bomb-making, improvised bombs and bombing in order to carry out a terrorist act in case ISIS ordered him to do so.

Baby powder helping fund IS in Afghanistan
More on this story from yesterday.
[DAWN] IS fighters in Afghanistan are making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year from illegal mining of talc, much of which ends up in the United States and Europe, advocacy group Global Witness reported on Tuesday.

About 500,000 tonnes of talc, used in products ranging from paint to baby powder, were exported from Afghanistan in the year to March, according to Afghan mining ministry figures cited in the group’s report.

Almost all went to Pakistain, where much of it is re-exported. Pakistain provides more than a third of US imports of talc and much also ends up in the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, it said.

"Unwitting American and European consumers are inadvertently helping fund holy warrior groups in Afghanistan," Nick Donovan, Campaign Director at Global Witness, said in a statement, calling for stronger checks on imports.

Democrat Rep. Al Green: When We Get Back The House, We'll Start Impeachment Proceedings
[DAILYWIRE] Democrat Rep. Al Green (D-TX) had harsh words for President Trump late Tuesday, warning that if Democrats retake the House of Representatives in November, they´ll begin the 2019 legislative session with articles of impeachment, even if Trump hasn´t done anything to require it. Speaking to C-Span, Rep. Green suggested that he has the "right and privilege" to impeach the president, even absent evidence that the president has committed "high crimes" or "misdemeanors" by virtue of the U.S. Constitution. "There’s a good likelihood there will be articles of impeachment" brought against the President, Rep. Green said.

See how that works?

You want a new revolution? How well do you think New York and Massachusetts and California will do against the rest of the Country....the pink boys in tutus against the US Marines? Oh, you don't think the Marines would back the President ? Just a guess but Congress is mortal...or am I wrong? The Left can't be so STOO-pid they want to hang themselves. And DC does have lamp posts.

Maybe it won't be that bad, perhaps its an exaggeration. You happen to know any Marines? Ask one. See if they wear pink tutus.
Drive down to Quantico and just look around. Go walk around a Barracks back Quad and observe a squad stringing Machine gun ammo. Or walk around a Platoon early in the morning after Chow Hall...and shout "Fuck Trump, Hooray for Nancy Pelosi ! " in the Squad Bay ....and see what it gets you. You just MAY get a sudden and direct response.

Britain
Mother convicted in UK of tricking daughter into forced marriage in Pakistan
[DAWN] A mother was convicted in a British court on Tuesday of deceiving her teenage daughter into travelling to Pakistain to enter into a forced marriage, in the first successful prosecution of its kind.

The woman ‐ who cannot be named without uncovering the identity of her daughter ‐ was found guilty following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court where a jury heard how the girl had sobbed as she was wedded to a male relative 16 years her senior, the same man who had sex with her and left her pregnant on an earlier trip.

The then 13-year-old had to undergo an abortion on returning from Pakistain to Britannia, but concerns over the girl’s welfare were allayed by her mother who said the pregnancy was a result of "two teenagers who had sneakily had sex", prosecutors said.

Jurors heard how as the girl approached her 18th birthday she was tricked by her mother into returning to Pakistain on what she was told would be a family holiday.

The couple were then married in September 2016 despite objections from the girl, before she was returned to Britannia with the assistance of the Home Office and her mother was tossed in the clink
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
in January 2017.

The mother was convicted on a charge of deceiving the victim into travelling abroad to enter into a false marriage, the first conviction of its kind, as well as for the forced marriage itself and for perjury, after she lied about the incident in the High Court ‐ where she was summoned when concerns were raised by authorities.

As the verdicts were read the defendant appeared shocked and was remanded in jug for sentencing on Wednesday, as her daughter watched from the public gallery.

Judge Patrick Thomas QC told the jury the adjournment was appropriate as the case was "entirely novel", with no other relevant case law to rely upon.

"Forcing someone into marriage against their wishes is a criminal offence, and a breach of their human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
," said Elaine Radway of the Crown Prosecution Service.

"It is thanks to the brave testimony of the victim that this serious offending was uncovered and that there was sufficient evidence to secure the conviction today." The new offence of forced marriage came into effect in June 2014, but prosecutions have been rare.

However the Forced Marriage Unit ‐ a joint Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Home Office team ‐ provided support to about 1,200 potential cases in 2017, a government front man said, making Britannia a "world leader" in tackling the problem.

Bangladesh
‘Gunfights’ kill 9 suspected drug traders in eight districts
[Dhaka Tribune] Nine suspected drug traders have been killed in separate incidents of "shootouts" with law enforcement agencies in eight districts.

The incidents took place on Wednesday.

In Kushtia, two suspected drug traders were killed in separate "shootouts" with police in Bheramara and Kumarkhali upazilas in the early hours of the day.

The dear departed are Fotik alias Gaffar, 37, and Liton Sheikh, 40.

Kushtia Superintendent of Police (SP) SM Mehedi Hasan told the Dhaka Tribune: "The incident took place when police conducted a drive in Haowakhali brick field and near a bridge in Lahini Para."

Five police officials were also injured in the "shootout" in Lahini Para.

The SP said a total of two firearms, four rounds of bullets, 1,200 pieces of yaba tablets, 500g cannabis, and 2g heroin were recovered in the two drives.

Police said 35-year-old Esa was detained in a special drive Tuesday evening. Later, they went to the spot along with the detainee to recover his stock of drugs.

Kotwali model cop shoppe Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Salam Mia said: "Esa’s associates shot up us when a team of police went to the spot to recover the drugs."

In retaliation, the law enforcers fired back, and Esa was injured.

Later, he was pronounced dead.
He's dead, Jim!
at the Comilla Medical College Hospital.

The OC said Esa was accused in seven cases filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

Based on information from him, police conducted a drive in Bonbari area to recover drugs.

The SP said: "Sensing our presence, a team of miscreants shot up us."

In retaliation, police fired back, leaving Aftaful dead.

At a press briefing in the afternoon, the district's Superintendent of Police (SP) Delwar Hossain said a drive was conducted in the area after police were tipped off that a group of drug pushers were bringing in a huge cache of narcotics from Sherpur.

Jamalpur Sadar cop shoppe OC Nasimul Islam had led the raid. He was also injured in the shootout.

Delwar said the drug pushers had shot up the police team sensing their presence, forcing the law enforcers to return fire.

"Bidyut was shot at that time, while his accomplices swam across the Brahmaputra River and managed to flee," he said.

He said Bidyut was rushed to Jamalpur General Hospital, but duty doctors delcared him dead upon arrival.

The law enforcers also recovered 1,000 yaba tablets, 200g heroin, a pistol, and three rounds of bullets.

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
Bidyut's wife Shilpi Begum claimed three officers from the Sadar cop shoppe had picked her husband up from their home Monday night. "And I heard about his death in a shootout with police this morning (Wednesday)."

SP Delwar brushed off her claims, terming them "false and baseless accusation."

He said Bidyut was accused in 16 drugs-related cases and one robbery case - all filed with Sadar police. "His wife is also accused in a number of drugs-related cases."

In Gaibandha, Raju Mia, a listed drug peddler, was killed in a reported shootout with the Rapid Action Battalion at Bisramgacchi village in Palashbari early in the morning, reports UNB.

Raju was the son of Abdul Jabbar of the upazila's Raigram.

The dear departed is Eshar Ali, 43, son of Momtaz Ali of Roson Shimulbari.

Lalmonirhat Sadar cop shoppe OC Mahfuz Alam said: "A group of seven to eight drug smugglers attacked us with sharp weapons and shot up us when we went to the area to arrest them around 3am.

In retaliation, police fired, killing Eshar, and leaving two coppers injured.

Later, he was declared dead after being taken to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital.

Lalmonirhat SP SM Rashedul Hoque said: "Some lethal weapons, cannabis, phensedyl bottles, and bullet shells were also recovered from the spot."

In Feni, RAB bumped off Faruq Hossain, 39, an alleged drug peddler in a reported shootout, reports the Bangla Tribune.

RAB 7 Feni camp in-charge Squadron Leader Fahim Ahmed said some drug pushers attacked a team of the elite force while they were searching a Dhaka-bound vehicle in Dadful area.

Woman, her infant son allegedly murdered by in-laws in Karachi
[DAWN] A 22-year-old woman and her infant son died after falling from the eighth floor of a building in Delhi Colony area of Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
on Wednesday, hospital officials said. The dear departed were allegedly pushed from the balcony by the woman's mother-in-law, police said.

Frere cop shoppe SHO Rana Abdul Latif told Dawn that three-month-old Abdul Hadi went titzup while his mother, Ramsha, 22, succumbed to her wounds during treatment at Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre.

"It appears to be a double murder case of the mother and her infant son," said Karachi South-SSP Sarfraz Nawaz Sheikh.

The senior officer said Ramsha and Rizwan Ahmed had married a year-and-half ago against the will of Ahmed’s parents, therefore she was not accepted by his family.

Initially, the couple moved to Dubai, but some six months back they had returned to Karachi and started living with Ahmed’s parents at the family’s apartment in Delhi Colony, where the incident happened.

Also read: When in-laws become outlaws

When Ramsha and her infant son fell from the eighth floor of the building some women gathered around them. There, the maimed woman told them that she was thrown from the balcony of the flat by her mother-in-law, police said.

Initially, SSP Sheikh said that police would lodge FIR into the double murder case "after getting a proper statement of the woman’s parents and witnesses."

However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
later in the day, Frere police registered the murder case on the complaint of the dear departed woman’s father, Mohammed Khalid, and tossed in the clink
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
the woman’s mother-in-law Nasrin Bibi and her brother-in-law Iqram over charges of involvement in the double murder, SHO Latif told Dawn.

The deadly incident, which was first portrayed as a case of suicide by the woman's in-laws, triggered fear in the densely-populated neighbourhood.

DNA search for evidence of Loch Ness monster to begin
[NYDAILYNEWS] Scientists in Scotland are preparing for a two-week-long DNA sweep of Loch Ness next month to map out all of the living creatures that inhabit it ‐ like, perhaps, the Loch Ness monster. The team in charge of the genetic coding of the U.K.'s largest freshwater ecosystem is skeptical that it will find any evidence of the mythical creature; but isn't completely ruling it out.
"Hoot, mon! We need tae take some swabs from auld Nessie!"
"I'm going into this thinking it's unlikely there is a monster, but I want to test that hypothesis," lead researcher Neil Gemmell told The Guardian. "What we'll get is a really nice survey of the biodiversity of Loch Ness."
"Nae, Jock! You take the Nessie swabs, I'll get the rest!"
And that's the crux of the research trip. More interesting to the scientists than past sightings of Nessi is the knowledge they will gain from the DNA fragments left behind in the feathers, fur and feces of the animals that have moved through the loch. They expect to discover evidence of new species, particularly that of bacteria strains.
"Ye hae no idea how to take a swab from yon wee bacterium!"
"While the prospect of looking for evidence of the Loch Ness monster is the hook to this project, there is an extraordinary amount of new knowledge that we will gain from the work about organisms that inhabit Loch Ness," Gemmell said.
"O' course aye do! Aye'll use yon eentsy weentsy swab!"
The focus on fact hasn't dampened the excitement of some believers, however. A local expert, Adrian Shine, who's joining the hunt from the Loch Ness Project, said last year that people still hope the "monster" is real because, "people tend to look for something bigger than themselves ‐ something frightening, something mysterious or something hidden."
"So ye get to swab yon gigantic sleekit carnivorous beastie!"
The legend of the water creature dates back to a seventh century story about St. Columba who allegedly saved a man from the beast by ordering it to back down. More recently, a 1934 newspaper picture known as "the surgeon's photograph" of a long-necked animal rekindled interest and since then, over 1,000 people have claimed to have spotted it - even though the photo was debunked as a fake in 1994.
"Hoot! Here's yer Saint Columba medallion! Get tae work!"

#1  I know, row about a mile into the Loch and dip a swab in the water and then place the wet little wick in a test tube and then hurry back and have it EXTENSIVELY analyzed SCIENTIFICALLY. Then tell us all what you find....DNA wise, I mean.

OR swab the wet rocks selectively and be sure and do a representative swab on a few algae and fish selectively , carefully now, be thorough.. Have we missed anything?

Maybe drop an anchor into the bottom mud, DNA sample that too. Just to be sure. Loch Ness is a BIG place...and Nessie has to have a Breeding Population to maintain a "monster" for how many hundreds of years , is it? Not just one, mind you. Say a breeding population of say...fifty creatures, at least. Got that?

#2  Took a bunch of pictures ontop of Urquhart castle (the ruins you occasionally see in Loch Ness pictures). Sunny day, bunch of boats and waterskiiers in the water.

Later the film was developed and we saw the monster. Dark shape sticking up out of the water with a wake, looked like a dinosaur head.

Then we looked through all the photos and found the same shape again, this time you could see the shape was a bit clearer, you could see the water skis, the outstretched arms holding the tow rope were clear and no longer looked like a snout, and the boat was barely in the shot.

Couldn't help wonder how many sightings involved a similar event with the second photo unavailable or destroyed.

Islamic State claims ‘proof’ of Israeli airstrikes in northern Sinai
[IsraelTimes] Jihadist group shows off Hebrew labels on munitions purportedly found in aftermath of raid in restive Egyptian peninsula

The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
’s official media outlet claimed Wednesday that Israeli war planes recently struck civilian homes in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

A video released by the Amaq news agency showed Hebrew labels on the munitions found in the rubble of the Arclight airstrike in northern Sinai.

"These are the remains from the bombings by the Jews, the grandchildren of monkeys and pigs, who are aided by dictator Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, against the mujaheddin in the Sinai," one fighter said in the video.

Israel has assisted Egypt throughout its fight with the Islamic State terrorist group in the Sinai, and its precursors. According to foreign reports, this has included conducting dronezaps in the peninsula on Islamic State targets. It has also reportedly taken the form of significant intelligence sharing.

More publicly, since 2013, Israel has also allowed additional Egyptian forces into the peninsula, beyond the level permitted under the 1979 peace accord between the two countries. Heavy weapons, like tanks, artillery and attack helicopters, have been brought into Sinai to fight the Islamists, a sign that Jerusalem is not concerned those big Egyptian guns could be turned against it.

Earlier this year, The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

reported that Israel was covertly carrying out a full-blown aerial campaign against IS targets in Sinai, with Sissi’s blessing. The Israeli aircraft are reportedly often unmarked and sometimes use indirect routes in a bid to cover up the origin of the strikes.

Early this year, the Egyptian military launched a massive security operation in northern Sinai as part of its efforts to oust the jihadist group from the peninsula’s restive north.

On Tuesday, Human Rights Watch warned that Egypt’s anti-IS campaign included the widespread destruction of civilian homes, commercial buildings and farms in Northern Sinai province.

"Turning people’s homes into rubble is part of the same self-defeating security plan that has restricted food and movement to inflict pain on Sinai residents," said Sarah Leah Whitson, the watchdog’s Mideast director.

HRW said also the destruction has extended well beyond two government-designated security buffer zones in the Sinai cities of al-Arish and Rafah.

Egypt has built the buffer zone along Gazoo’s border in an effort to prevent jihadists from using a vast underground tunnel network that was created to evade a decade-old Israeli and Egyptian blockade of the territory. It also bulldozed homes and olive groves around the el-Arish airport where IS fighters attempted to hit the country’s defense and interior ministers in December.

Washington weighs cutting funds to UN agencies after Palestinians join
[IsraelTimes] Amid widening rift with Paleostinians, US says it will examine Ramallah's accession to several bodies, in a move officials described as 'counterproductive'

The United States is considering whether to cut funding to two UN agencies and the chemical weapons watchdog after the Paleostinians joined the organizations, a US official said Wednesday.

In a move aimed at boosting their international profile, the Paleostinians have joined the UN trade development organization UNCTAD, industrial development agency UNIDO and the Chemical Weapons Convention which is upheld by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

US legislation bars funding for UN agencies or affiliates that grant membership to Paleostine, which has the status of a non-member observer state at the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
.

"It has been the consistent position of the United States that efforts by the Paleostinians to join international organizations are premature and counterproductive," a US official said.

"We will review the application of US legislative restrictions related to Paleostinian membership in certain UN agencies and organizations," the official added.

The Paleostinian move comes amid a rift with President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s administration over its decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The Paleostinians want to make East Jerusalem the capital of their future state.

Last week, citing the US embassy move to Jerusalem, Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
recalled the Paleostinian envoy to Washington Tuesday, marking a new low in already frayed ties between Ramallah and the White House.

Paleostinians froze contacts with US officials in December over the recognition of Jerusalem, saying the move exposed Washington’s pro-Israel bias and rejecting it as a mediator.

Nickolay Mladenov, the UN coordinator for the Middle East, told the Security Council that the Paleostinians had joined Geneva-based UNCTAD, Vienna-based UNIDO and the Chemical Weapons Convention last week.

The United States withdrew in 1996 from UNIDO, a little-known agency that promotes "inclusive and sustainable industrial development," according to its website.

The OPCW and UNCTAD rely on voluntary contributions from UN member-states to fund its activities as well as regular funding for its budget.

The United States withdrew some funding for UNESCO when the Paleostinians joined the cultural and education agency in 2011 and last year pulled out of the agency altogether.

The Trump administration has also cut funds to the UN Paleostinian refugee agency, leaving UNRWA struggling to fill a major budget gap for its education and health programs.

The Paleostinians angered Israel when they became a state-party to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in 2015.

Israel is vehemently opposed to Paleostinian recognition in world bodies ahead of a peace deal and has pursued intense diplomatic efforts to stop them.

The Paleostinian announcements at the UN came in the wake of a visit by Paleostinian officials Tuesday to the Hague-based International Criminal Court, where they urged its prosecutor to probe alleged war crimes committed against Paleostinians by Israel.

Paleostinian Authority Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki said the complaint seeks an investigation into Israeli policies in the West Bank, Gazoo Strip, and East Jerusalem since the Paleostinians joined the ICC in June 2014.

Israel rejected the Paleostinian request as "cynical" and "absurd."

In response to Tuesday’s move at the ICC, Israel said it took a "severe view" of the Paleostinian request. It accused the Paleostinians of violent incitement against Israel and exploiting women and kiddies as human shields.

Ayatollah Khamenei: US enmity with Iran deep, but all American plots have failed
[PRESSTV] Fearless Leader of the Islamic Revolution
...Iran's doddering head theocrat...
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei
...the successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and the actual dictator of Iran...
says US enmity with Iran is deep but all American plots against the country have failed since the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

During a meeting with heads of the three branches of the Iranian government as well as officials in Tehran on Wednesday, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to what he called "the fundamental, deep and constant enmity" of the United States towards the Islamic Theocratic Republic and said Iran would definitely defeat the US if Iranian officials fulfill their duty.

"From the beginning of the [victory of the Islamic] Revolution to the present day, the United States has carried out various types of hostilities to undermine the Islamic Theocratic Republic and has organized various types of political, economic, military and propaganda activities against it," the Leader said.

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Vice President Nuri al-Maliki’s coalition intends to continue recent talks with kurdish political representatives regarding the formation of the next Iraqi government, his office said.

Hisham al-Rikabi, director of Maliki’s office, said in statements on Wednesday that the State of the Law coalition will launch a new phase of talks within the next couple of days with Kurdish political forces after a meeting between Maliki and a former Kurdish president, Masud Barzani, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, in Baghdad yesterday.

According to Rikabi, "the meeting between the head of the State of the Law Coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, and the KDP delegation in Baghdad has resulted into resolving lots of past issues between both sides, as well as reaching understandings in relation to the formation of the largest parliamentary bloc".

Diyaa Assadi, who is a senior adviser to Iraqi holy man, al-Sadr said that "the US was still being seen as an occupying country."

Responding to the presence of American forces, he stressed that US troops would be dealt as occupying force until their full withdrawal from the country. "There are still troops in Iraq," he said.

Also earlier this year, a senior commander of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), said now that the ISIS Takfiri

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Tel Aviv will be bombarded if Israeli aggression on Gaza continues: Islamic Jihad
[PRESSTV] The Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
resistance movement has warned that it will target Tel Aviv in case the Israeli regime presses ahead with its acts of aggression against the impoverished and besieged Gazoo Strip.

Islamic Jihad front man Daoud Shihab said on Wednesday that Israel is desperately looking for a military confrontation with the resistance movement as a way out of the current impasse it has faced in the wake of the recent "Great March of Return" protests.

Shihab added that the latest Israeli Arclight airstrikes on several sites in the Gazoo Strip point to the Tel Aviv regime’s defeat, failure and helplessness in the face of the voice of truth, which is more powerful than the terrorism being waged by Israel.

He stressed that the Islamic Jihad resistance movement is fully prepared for any Israeli military aggression, warning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and members of his cabinet that Tel Aviv will get bombed if they continue their aggressive policies towards the Gazoo Strip and its residents.

"We have the ability to carry out such a thing. We have nothing to lose. No one will then have the right to hold us responsible for the escalation. At that time, Netanyahu will not be able to continue with his deception to justify his failures," Shihab pointed out.

Earlier on Wednesday, Israeli fighter jets destroyed a Paleostinian boat in Gazoo seaport that was supposed to welcome an international flotilla hoping to break the decade-long Israeli blockade on the coastal sliver.

Poll: Claire McCaskill Trails GOP Challengers by 7, 16 Percent
[BREITBART] Missouri Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill
...Now, why would I pay taxes on my airplane? Send the bill to the taxpayers!...
trails not one but two Republican challengers in head-to-head matchups, according to a poll released Tuesday.
The poll by Gravis Marketing ‐ commissioned by Republican candidate Austin Peterson ‐ shows the incumbent trailing state Attorney General Josh Hawley and libertarian-leaning Petersen by more than the margin of error.

"In the first match-up, Hawley was picked by 50 percent of respondents and McCaskill was chosen by 43 percent. In the second, 56 percent of respondents chose Petersen, and 40 percent picked McCaskill. The margin of error for the survey was 3.4 percentage points," reports USA Today.

In response to the poll, Petersen said, "Both (Hawley and McCaskill) have shown themselves to be ladder-climbing career politicians who prioritize professional gain over honest representation of the electorate.

"After nearly a year of hearing Missourians express their frustration with the insider politics in Jefferson City and Washington on the campaign trail, I can’t say I’m surprised by these results."

Govt yet to decide how and when to record statements of 27 Indian witnesses in Mumbai attacks case
[DAWN] An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad was informed on Wednesday that the federal government will apprise the court by June 27 about its final decision regarding bringing 27 Indian citizens to the witness box in connection with Mumbai attacks case.

The Mumbai attacks, which took place in 2008, resurfaced in recent headlines, with progress in the trial coming under question, when ousted premier Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts...
in an interview had asked: "Why can’t we complete the trial?"

ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjumand set the deadline of June 27 for a clarification on the status of Indian witnesses in connection with the case after the interior ministry submitted an application in this regard.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US blacklists Iranians for allegedly providing missile tech to Houthis
[DAWN] The US Treasury blacklisted five Iranians who allegedly supplied ballistic missile technology to Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Tuesday, a day after Washington warned Tehran it faced the “strongest sanctions in history.”

The Treasury said the five placed on its sanctions list were linked to an operation by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps to support Houthi attacks on cities in Saudi Arabia, which leads the Gulf coalition fighting the Yemeni rebels.

According to Riyadh, the Houthis have launched more than 130 ballistic missiles at Saudi Arabia since 2015, many of them intercepted by anti-missile defence systems.

In November last year they launched a missile which reached Riyadh, and the attacks have increased this year.

Iran has denied supplying missiles to the Houthis, while the group has insisted that they developed the missiles themselves.

Actions by the Revolutionary Guards “have enabled the Houthis to launch missiles at Saudi cities and oil infrastructure,” said Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin in a statement.
