Breaking: Marseille shooting: Hooded men open fire with Kalashnikovs
[Express UK] HOODED gunmen have opened fire with automatic rifles, kalachnikovs, in Marseille, in south France - with one person reportedly injured.
24 hr rule
The men opened fire on a group of young people not far from the cultural space known as 'La Busserine', local media Corse-Matin reports.

Three vehicles with the masked individuals arrived in the city's district of Busserine at 5pm local time, Frances ACTU17 said. Police exchanged fire with the shooters and officers have set up a cordon. At this time it is unclear if any arrests have been made, but police are investigating.

Marseille's Marines-Pompiers, the city's fire and rescue service, is also at the scene.
This is the second shooting in the city in a matter of weeks.

Last month a man, said to be in his thirties, was seriously injured in a shooting outside a restaurant in central Marseille

The victim was hit several times in a hail of bullets after two gunmen opened fire as he sat with a drink in a snack bar.

#4  From An Nahar, a motivation:

A group of people, some armed with guns, shot into the air in the French city of Marseille and tried to corner officers who responded to the sound of gunfire on Monday evening, police officials said.

Christophe Reynaud of the Marseille police said one resident was hit in the head with a butt of a gun and slightly injured during the incident in the Busserine district on early Monday evening.

Reynaud ruled out terrorism as a motive and said the shooting probably was drug-related.

He said the group drove away and has not been apprehended.

Clintonista Mark Penn: Mueller Probe Exposed ‐ and the ‘Deep State' Is Flailing
[Breitbart and The Hill] Mark Penn ‐ Hillary Clinton’s chief strategist during her 2008 presidential campaign who has served the Clinton family since the mid-90s ‐ lowers the boom on Robert Mueller, Rod Rosenstein, Christopher Steele, the Clinton Foundation, and the intelligence community’s "deep state," laying out the absurdity and the danger of the Obama administration’s abuse of surveillance and law enforcement against political enemies. 4

From The Hill:

The "deep state" is in a deep state of desperation. With little time left before the Justice Department inspector general’s report becomes public, and with special counsel Robert Mueller having failed to bring down Donald Trump after a year of trying, they know a reckoning is coming.

At this point, there is little doubt that the highest echelons of the FBI and the Justice Department broke their own rules to end the Hillary Clinton "matter," but we can expect the inspector general to document what was done or, more pointedly, not done. It is hard to see how a year-long investigation of this won’t come down hard on former FBI Director James Comey and perhaps even former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who definitely wasn’t playing mahjong in a secret "no aides allowed" meeting with former President Clinton on a Phoenix airport tarmac.

With this report on the way and congressional investigators beginning to zero in on the lack of hard, verified evidence for starting the Trump probe, current and former intelligence and Justice Department officials are dumping everything they can think of to save their reputations.

TX Lt. Gov Patrick on School Shootings: ‘We Have Devalued Life' Through Abortion, Violence in Pop Culture
[Breitbart] Sunday on ABC’s "This Week," Texas Lt. Gov Dan Patrick said the uptick in school shootings in America could be traced to culture devaluing life.

Patrick said, "Should we be surprised in this nation? We have devalued life. Whether it’s through abortion, the breakup of families, through violent movies, and particularly violent video games now outsell movies and music."

He added, "Psychologists and psychiatrists will tell you that students are desensitized to violence. Many have lost empathy for their victims by watching hours and hours of violent video games."

What Obama and his political Choom Gang did is far worse than Watergate
[Wash Times] At the end of all the scandal and drama, all of the breathlessly reported lies and false accusations, at the end of all the money wasted on some zany kabuki swamp dance choreographed to the thrumming of giant bullfrogs and yipping of excited coyotes ‐ at the end of all of this ‐ it comes down to precisely what we said it was a year and a half ago.

The Obama administration ‐ with or without the knowledge and direction of President Obama himself ‐ perverted one of the most powerful, clandestine spying operations in the world and used it at the very height of a presidential campaign to spy on political opponents, punish them and, ultimately, silence them through extortion.

If this was orchestrated without the express knowledge of Mr. Obama, then it reveals just how blatantly he instructed by example the weaponizing of the entire federal government to carry out his low, dishonest and unjust ideology. By any means necessary, one might say. Only instead of being driving by visions of justice, these people were driven by visions of undying power.

If this conspiracy was carried out at the express direction of Mr. Obama or other high officials in his administration, then they belong in jail. From unmasking of political opponents, to leaking their names to the press, to killing legitimate investigations, to launching politically motivated witch hunts, a racket of this scale could not have been carried out without some major juice and cover at the top levels of the Department of Justice, FBI and the White House.

Harvard To Give Hillary Medal For "Transformative Impact On Society"
She's the most corrupt U.S. politician since LBJ and they're kissing her ass with these utter garbage accolades & awards. Pass the barf bags...
[Zero Hedge] - Hillary Clinton, who paid for an opposition research dossier which was used by the Obama administration to justify surveiling her political opponent, Donald Trump, and later to smear him as the sitting President, will receive Harvard's prestigious Radcliffe Medal on Friday for having a "transformative impact on society," according to the Ivy League university.

Clinton will receive the award as part of the school's graduation-week activities, because she's a "champion for human rights," and a "skilled legislator," as well as an "advocate for American leadership" on the world stage.

Former Secretary of State and 2001 Radcliffe Medalist Madeline Albright will give Clinton a personal tribute, while Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey will join Hillary in a keynote conversation at the Friday affair.

The late Michael Hastings - 'Why Democrats Love to Spy On Americans'
[Wiki] Hastings became a vocal critic of the Obama administration, Democratic Party and surveillance state during the investigation of reporters by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2013, referring to the restrictions on the freedom of the press by the Obama administration as a "war" on journalism.[4] His last story, "Why Democrats Love to Spy On Americans", was published by BuzzFeed on June 7, 2013.[5][6] Hastings died in an automobile crash on June 18, 2013, in Los Angeles, California.[7] Blue Rider Press posthumously published his only novel, The Last Magazine (2014), a year after his death.[8]

#1  Perhaps we were told, but no one listened. Excerpt from the Hastings article:

The very topic of Democratic two-facedness on civil liberties is one of the most important issues that Greenwald has covered. Many of those Dems — including the sitting President Barack Obama, Senator Carl Levin, and Secretary of State John Kerry — have now become the stewards and enhancers of programs that appear to dwarf any of the spying scandals that broke during the Bush years, the very same scandals they used as wedge issues to win elections in the Congressional elections 2006 and the presidential primary of 2007-2008.

Recall what Senator Levin told CNN in 2005, demanding to "urgently hold an inquiry" into what was supposedly President Bush's domestic wiretap program.

Perspectives on a Stefan Halper 'outing.'
[The Hill] Glenn Greenwald, a leftist, offers his perspective on the man the FBI selected to spy on the Trump campaign and on the brouhaha surrounding his "outing." First, Greenwald says that this man, now a professor, was responsible for spying on the Carter administration on behalf of Ronald Reagan’s presidential campaign in 1980. He did this, by running a scheme whereby CIA operatives passed classified information about Carter’s foreign policy to Reagan campaign officials in order to ensure the Reagan campaign knew of any foreign policy decisions Carter was considering.

If true, this means, that (in Greenwald’s words) "the informant used by the FBI in 2016 to gather information on the Trump campaign was not some previously unknown, top-secret asset whose exposure as an operative could jeopardize lives." Rather, "his decades of work for the CIA ‐ including his role in an obviously unethical if not criminal spying operation during the 1980 presidential campaign ‐ is quite publicly known." Indeed, it can be discover from public records showing him to be a CIA "vendor."

Justice Kennedy retirement rumors shift into overdrive
[The Hill] Like clockwork, Washington has whipped itself into a frenzy over rumors of a possible retirement on the Supreme Court.

All eyes are on Justice Anthony Kennedy, 81, who reportedly considered calling it quits last spring. As the court’s current term winds to a close, speculation about his plans has again swept the capital, with court watchers searching for clues.

Those who say Kennedy is here to stay ‐ at least for now ‐ point to the fact that he’s already hired his law clerks for the next term, as Above the Law reported.

"I don’t think he would have hired all four clerks for next year if he was seriously entertaining stepping down," said Carl Tobias, a University of Richmond School of Law professor. "I just don’t think it’s going to happen."

But Ian Samuel, a Climenko Fellow and lecturer on law at Harvard Law, who clerked for the late Justice Antonin Scalia, said the small number of cases the court has granted could signal Kennedy is throwing in the towel. The court has only agreed to hear 15 cases so far next term.

How Muslim Propagators Swindle the Western Civilization: Islam and Science Expropriation
h/t Gates of Vienna
[ModernDiplomacy] Muslims take high pride and boast about the critical contributions "Islamic Sciences" to civilization. It would require considerable space just to recite the many so-called crucial discoveries were allegedly ascribed to Muslims’ inventions. We are told that Muslim scientists originated in the Islamic world laid the ground to public hospitals, libraries, and universities. Muslim scientists laid the foundations of agricultural science and invented the coffee. Muslim scientists developed theories of evolution long before Darwin and proposed laws of gravitation that were proved by Newton centuries later on; Muslim scientists invented "flight control surfaces" that are "believed to have come from the medieval Islamic world."

It is amazing, in fact confusing and perplexing to enter Islamic internet sites, for example muslimheritage.com. The impression is that Islam has invented everything on Earth from the beginning of history, and continues to discover and invent everything. Unfortunately, it seems as if according to this site Islam has caused the emergence and the existence of humanity, without Islam human beings would have been perished. Here is the list most of Muslim propagators in the West mention as the greatest and the firsts. Most of them were highly influenced by the Mu’tazila ideology.

U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller sent agents to Israel in Trump probe
[Jerusalem Post] Three months before the 2016 presidential election, an Israeli social media specialist joined a Gulf Arab emissary and a former Middle East security contractor for a meeting with Donald Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., to discuss ways they could help the Republican nominee beat his opponent.

The existence of the meeting in Trump Tower in New York City, first revealed on Saturday by The New York Times, has prompted US special counsel Robert Mueller to send investigators to Israel to probe the activities of the Israeli social media firm, which allegedly employed former Israeli intelligence officers and collects user data to help manipulate public opinion. The Israel Police is cooperating with the probe, the Times found.

Now he's getting serious ("if you don't blame it on the Jews, you're not serious" - An old Russian saying).

Catastrophic destruction as Syrian regime pounds Palestinian refugee camp
[Jpost] Amid scenes labeled "apocalyptic" and a "crime against humanity," the Syrian regime continued its offensive on Sunday to retake the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk, a neighborhood in south Damascus.

Most of the area is held by Islamic State and tens of thousands of Palestinian residents fled years ago, but thousands remain under a brutal siege.

The scenes from Yarmouk on Sunday looked like Stalingrad in 1942 or Berlin in 1945, during the Second World War: bombed-out buildings as far as the eye can see; roads turned to rubble; alleyways turned into canyons of destruction, gutted, gray and slumping from air strikes. There doesn’t appear to be anything left of many city blocks that were once a thriving community, the home of more than 200,000 people in 2011 when the Syrian civil war broke out. Now only a few thousand remain. Those who do are reported to be starving under the regime’s siege.

Since the middle of May, the regime has focused its firepower on the stronghold. It signed agreements with the local rebels so it could focus on destroying ISIS in southern Damascus, in an area held for years by the extremists. With support from Russia, according to numerous online accounts, the regime has sent tanks and planes to root out what remains.

Afghan-US forces respond Taliban attack in Ghazni with heavy airstrikes
[Khaama Press] The Afghan and US forces responded to Taliban

attack on Ghazni province with heavy Arclight airstrikes that resulted into the killing of several bad boys.

The 203rd Thunder Corps of the Afghan Military in the Southeast said the Afghan Air Force carried out airstrikes on Taliban positions in Ajristan disrict, leaving at least 12 faceless myrmidons dead.

The source further added that 14 Talibs were also killed during the festivities with the security forces in the same district.

At least one Afghan soldier also lost his life during the festivities and two sergeants sustained injuries, the 203rd Thunder Corps added.

In the meantime, the Thunder Corps said the US force also carried out airstrikes in Mir Khan Wal area of the district leaving at least 16 faceless myrmidons dead.

Ghazni is among the relatively volatile provinces in Southeastern parts of Afghanistan where the anti-government armed faceless myrmidons are active in some of its districts and often carry out terrorist related activities.

This comes as heavy festivities are underway in Ajristan district after Taliban launched a coordinated attack on the district few days ago.

Injured Palestinians receive treatment at Egyptian hospitals: Palestine embassy
It sounds like the maimed are the only ones benefitting from that so-generous "open" border crossing.
[AlAhram] The Paleostinian embassy in Cairo confirmed the continued arrival of Paleostinians maimed in Gazoo by the Israeli occupation forces over the past week to receive treatment in Egyptian hospitals in El-Arish, Ismailia and Cairo.

The embassy said in a statement that the maimed are being transported through the Rafah crossing, where they are received by a medical team led by Deputy Health Minister Arabi Mohammed.

On Monday, Israeli forces used live ammunition against Paleostinian demonstrating in Gazoo against the moving of the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, killing 61 Paleostinians and injuring hundreds.

Since Paleostinians started their Right of Return marches in Gazoo last March, Israel has killed at least 108 and maimed thousands.

According to the Paleostinian embassy, the injured have been receiving treatment at El-Arish General Hospital in Sinai, and some have recently been transferred to Nasser Institute Hospital in Cairo.

Emergency levels at Egyptian hospitals treating injured Paleostinians have been raised to a high level to receive the maimed.

The Paleostinian embassy expressed its appreciation to the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Health Minister Ahmed Emad El-Din for helping save the lives of the maimed in Gazoo.

Since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on unarmed Paleostinian protesters, Egypt has been sending aid and medical convoys to Gazoo through the Rafah crossing border.

On Thursday, the first day of Ramadan, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi ordered the opening of the Rafah border during the entire holy month to "ease burdens on our brothers in Gazoo."

Islamic Extremists Attack Russian Orthodox Church In Chechneya And Pay With Their Lives
More details about the attack reported yesterday.
[Daily Caller] Police in Chechnya killed four Islamic militants Saturday when the group raided a Russian Orthodox church with guns, axes and Molotov cocktails.

Shots rang out during Saturday’s service and cries of "Allahu Akbar" could be heard as congregants scrambled to close and bolt the doors, Father Sergiy, the priest at Archangel Michael Church in Chechnya’s capital of Grozny, said, according to The Associated Press. The terrorists killed one congregant outside the church building, wounded another inside the church as they attempted to gain entry, and killed two officers when police arrived on the scene, according to The New York Times. Policemen gunned down all four attackers.

Ramzan Kadyrov, Chechneya’s leader, said the gunmen initially took hostages. He issued a statement condemning their attack and threatening anyone daring to carry out similar acts.

"I once again very seriously declare that you can try to commit any actions aimed at undermining the security of the residents of Grozny and other settlements," Kaydrov said, according to NYT. "But anyone who makes the first step along this path will be immediately destroyed."

POTUS Orders Justice Department to Investigate Obama Surveillance
[Breitbart] President Donald J. Trump announced his decision to demand an official investigation of former President Barack Obama’s administration on Sunday for infiltrating or surveilling his presidential campaign for political reasons.

"I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes ‐ and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!" Trump wrote on Twitter on Sunday afternoon.

Trump frequently blames investigations of his campaign on Obama, suggesting that politically motivated investigators were unfairly targeting his campaign.

He spent most of Sunday morning sharing his thoughts on Twitter about the ongoing Russia investigation, suggesting that the ongoing "witch hunt" was out of control. "Things are really getting ridiculous," Trump wrote, noting that so far there was no collusion found by special investigators.

He criticized Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team as "13 Angry and heavily conflicted Democrats" who were part of the Obama administration.

"STOP!" he wrote. "They have found no collusion with Russia, No obstruction."

Larkana doctor arrested over charges of rape and intimidation
[DAWN] Larkana police on Sunday arrested a doctor along with a lady manager of a vocational centre over charges of rape and intimidation.

In a First Information Report (FIR) lodged with Lashari police station on Sunday, a woman alleged that the doctor in question and a female manager of a women's vocational centre in Bangul Dero visited her house and sought permission from her parents that she be allowed to travel with them to Karachi for eye treatment, as one NGO had agreed to bear the expenses.

"We went to a private hospital where my eyesight was checked and medicines prescribed," she said in the FIR.

Upon their return to Bangul Dero, the doctor allegedly gave the girl some pills and injected her at his clinic resulting in her losing consciousness.

"The doctor raped me while I was in a semi-conscious state," the FIR quoted the victim as saying.

The FIR also states that the doctor threatened the victim to keep quiet by showing a pistol and told her that a video had been recorded on a cellphone.

Larkana SSP Tanveer Hussain Tunio said that a case had been registered at the Lashari police station on the complaint of the victim under Sections 376 (punishment for rape), 337-J (causing hurt by means of poison), 354-A (assault or use of criminal force to woman and stripping her of her clothes), and 506/2 (punishment for criminal intimidation if threat be to cause death or grievous hurt, etc.) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Houthi Militias Impose Sectarian Ramadan Evenings to Mobilize Recruits
[AAWSAT] The Houthi militia intensified movements in Sanaa and other regions ruled by it to mobilize more people, following its defeats in various battlefronts.

In this context, some people reported to Asharq Al-Awsat that the Houthis sent local supervisors to hold sectarian Ramadan evenings and mobilize the greatest number of citizens to come and listen to the Houthi program.

Sources revealed that the militia members stressed the necessity of a greater mobilization and threatened those who reject with punishment and arrest.

During Ramadan evenings, held after the Isha prayer, there is a lengthy lecture by the Houthi supervisor in addition to recordings of the group leader.

The sources affirmed to Asharq Al-Awsat that the supervisors of the group requested from the attendees to mobilize the greatest number of recruits during month of Ramadan, since this is a religious duty that is more important than prayer and fasting, they claimed.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that the Houthi members arrested a number of activists who rejected to attend the sectarian evening and put them in secret prisons. Despite strict orders by Houthis for people to attend the evenings, the attendance turnout was quite low.

Rights sources revealed that Houthi militias stormed a students’ place in Thamar and arrested five students who are originally from Taiz province. The students were drove to one of the secret detention camps for charges of provoking people against the militia.

Amid mounting concerns from possible sneaking of people against the Houthi militia to regions ruled by the them, tough restrictions were made on arrivals to Sanaa and other cities ruled by the Houthis.

In the same context, employees in Sanaa reported that the Houthi militias took a decision to ban any employee who attempts to go to Aden to get his salary from the legit government.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The French special forces have installed six artillery batteries in areas held by Kurdish militia near the Syrian-Iraqi border, the Anadolu news agency reported.

The news comes just days after a convoy of 20 vehicles carrying around 70 French servicemen was reportedly stopped in the Qamishli area of the northeastern Syrian province of Hasakah at a checkpoint manned by Syrian government troops on Thursday.

The YPG representatives arrived at the checkpoint and confirmed that the French convoy was heading for their areas. The government troops decided to release the French servicemen and let them proceed to the Kurdish-controlled areas.

Abu Sayyaf releases two captive policewomen
[PhilStar] The Abu Sayyaf has released two female police officers it had abducted in Patikul in late April.

A source said the Abu Sayyaf group freed Dinah Gumahad on Tuesday afternoon and Benierose Alvarez on Wednesday morning. Alvarez was released in Talipao town. The source could not say if ransom was paid for the release of the pair, who were abducted on April 29 along with companions Blas Jackosalim Ahamad and Faizal Ahidji at Barangay Liang, Patikul town.

The Abu Sayyaf group earlier demanded P5 million ransom for the two cops and P300,000 each for Ahamad and Ahidji. The Philippine government has a standing policy against paying ransom.

Three soldiers have been killed and 24 others have been injured in three major clashes in Patikul during an operation to rescue the kidnapped cops. The military said 11 Abu Sayyaf rebels were killed and several others were wounded in the encounters.

[NYDAILYNEWS] Incoming NRA President Oliver North tried to blame the rash of school shootings across the U.S., including the massacre at a Texas high school Friday, on video games and ADHD medication instead of access to firearms.

The gun lobby's newest spokesman said the wave of killings were carried out by "young boys" who "have been on Ritalin since they were in kindergarten."

"I am certainly not a doctor, I'm a Marine, but I can see those kinds of things happening," North said in an interview on "Fox News Sunday."

His claim comes two days after teen gunman Dimitrios Pagourtzis killed 10 of his classmates and teachers at Santa Fe High School with a handgun and a shotgun.
I don't know if he's right or wrong. I do know that when I was a kid there wasn't any Ritalin and there weren't any school shootings. I have watched my grandson playing video games and I thought they were disgustingly violent.

Drone linked with grenade attack in Thai south
[Bangkok Post] A drone has been impounded from a civilian’s home in Yala province after it was believed to be linked with a grenade attack at a security post on Tuesday.

The unmanned aerial vehicle was confiscated from the house in Yaha district on Thursday afternoon. Authorities also found Koreeya Sadeeyamu inside the house. She was taken to the district police station for questioning. Flight data will be retrieved from the drone to determine whether it is connected with the attack and the house owner will be questioned.

The confiscation came after two M79 grenades were fired at a security post in Yaha district early Tuesday morning, wounding two military rangers on duty.

An unidentified group of people fired the grenades at the post, causing blasts that sent shrapnel flying, injuring the rangers. Mai Mana, who was stationed with three other rangers near the post, said he and the other rangers had spotted a drone being flown around the post at about 3am. It flew off when they pointed a flashlight at it, he said.

It was believed the drone was flying reconnaissance for the attack.

NC Police Find $90 Million in Meth Hidden in Truck Driven by Alleged Illegal Alien
Indentured servitude to pay off the cost of smuggling them into the country?
[Breitbart] Officials in Linden, North Carolina, discovered 120 gallons of liquid methamphetamine hidden inside the fuel tank of a semi truck being driven by an alleged illegal alien, reports say.

Harnett County Sheriff’s officers pulled the truck over on May 19 and discovered the large amount of the liquefied drug. According to WRAL, the liquid was destined to be turned into 454 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and would have had a street value of $90.8 million.

The seizure was part of a wider investigation into the trafficking of meth in the area.

The truck was crewed by Raul Topete Arreola, 49, and Aquileo Perez Pineda, 48. Pineda was quickly put on an immigration hold while immigration officials looked into Arreola’s immigration status.

The pair were charged with three counts each of trafficking methamphetamine and placed under a three million dollar bond.

German Chamber of Commerce: Companies worry Trump moving toward 'America Alone'
[Reuters] BERLIN - German companies are concerned that U.S. President Donald Trump is increasingly thinking only of America rather than just putting his country first, the head of Germany’s DIHK Chambers of Commerce told media.

The United States has pulled out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and Germany has acknowledged it could be hard to protect companies doing business with Iran, as a senior U.S. official renewed a threat of sanctions against European firms.

German companies also face the prospect of possible extra levies ‐ Trump imposed a 25 percent tariff on steel imports and a 10 percent tariff on aluminum in March but the European Union has been granted exemptions until June 1.

"America First now increasingly means America Alone," DIHK President Eric Schweitzer told the RND group of newspapers. "That makes German businesses really worried."

Nonetheless, a DIHK survey published earlier this month showed a record number of German companies believe economies in foreign markets where they do business will improve despite rising political and trade risks.

US, China agree to abandon trade war: Beijing

Caribbean-Latin America
Can Venezuela survive another Maduro 'victory'?
[MIAMIHERALD] As Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro seeks another six-year term on Sunday, it’s clear that he ‐ like the rest of the country ‐ is running on empty.

Oil-rich and wealthy just a few years ago, Venezuela today is being gutted by hyperinflation, food shortages, collapsing infrastructure, international sanctions, growing protests and an exodus of the desperate.

Maduro, 55, is expected to win Sunday’s vote, which is being decried as fraudulent by the international community, amid opposition calls for a boycott.

And analysts expect that will mean more pain, trouble and repression for the struggling South American country.

"Nations don’t reach bottom. There is always further to fall," Phil Gunson, an analyst with the Crisis Group, said at a conference at the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center in Washington, D.C., Thursday. "But it does seem like life as we know it in Venezuela will be impossible unless there is a radical change."

And yet it’s hard to imagine how that change might come.

On the campaign trail, Maduro has vowed to use his next term to pull out of the economic death spiral that many people blame him for starting in the first place.

"I am going to lead great economic changes, and I am going to create an economic revolution that will shake the world," he said at his closing campaign Thursday. "Whatever it costs, however long it takes, I will do it."
"I am going to lead great economic changes, and I am going to create an economic revolution that will shake the world," he said at his closing campaign Thursday. "Whatever it costs, however long it takes, I will do it."

But during his campaign, he's been doubling down on the same failing policies, taking over the country’s largest private bank, Banesco, forcing companies to slash prices and expropriating others.

It's hard to imagine Maduro, a former transportation worker, changing his economic playbook after the election, Gunson said.

"Maduro, the bus driver, is going to drive the bus over a cliff," he said.

Muslim man beaten to death in India for allegedly slaughtering cows
[DAWN] A Moslem man was beaten to death by a mob in India's Madhya Pradesh on the suspicion of slaughtering cattle, the Hindustan Times reported on Saturday.

Police identified the dear departed as Riaz, a 45-year-old tailor. His friend, Shakeel, 38, was injured in the alleged assault and admitted in a hospital in Jabalpur in a critical condition.

They were allegedly beaten up by attackers armed with sticks in Amgara village, about 28km from their home in the Purani Basti neighbourhood of Maihar town, in the early hours of Friday.

According to Indian Express, four accomplices of Riaz and Shakeel fled from the scene when the villagers "found a group with cattle".

In his complaint to the police, Shakeel denied any involvement in slaughtering cattle. Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch shot Black Bart's other gun out of his other hand......
one of his alleged attackers, Pawan Singh Gond, filed a complaint against Shakeel and Riaz for slaughtering cows.

Police have registered a first information report (FIR) under sections of the Madhya Pradesh Cow Slaughter Ban Act, 2004, and the Madhya Pradesh Agriculture Cattle Preservation Act, 1959 against Riaz and Shakeel, Hindustan Times reported.

"On the basis of the FIR lodged by the villager, Shakeel will be incarcerated
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
after he is discharged from the hospital," a police officer was quoted as saying. He added that carcases of two cows were recovered from the village.

The maximum punishment for cow slaughter in Madhya Pradesh is seven years imprisonment.

Attacks by 'cow protection' vigilante groups have been on the rise in recent years in India.

[AAWSAT] The Free Syrian Army

has launched a new battle against Khalid ibn al-Walid Army that belongs to ISIS, south Syria.

Free Syrian Army factions started a new battle in the purpose of kicking out Khalid ibn al-Walid Army from Yarmouk Basin. Fierce festivities took place between the two sides, coinciding with shelling on the group locations.
The southern front factions launched earlier several battles for the sake of restoring control over regions ruled by Khalid ibn al-Walid Army.

This army controls the majority of Yarmouk Basin towns, and has launched a sudden attack in February 2017 in which it took by force new towns, controlled earlier by the opposition factions.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the festivities were renewed in the western strip of Daraa countryside in which Yarmouk Basin and regions in the surrounding of Masakin Jalin witnessed a fire exchange between Islamic factions and fighters of Khalid ibn al-Walid Army.

These festivities coincide with continuous reinforcement by Khalid ibn al-Walid Army in regions ruled by it, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. It has been monitored that the army threw fliers in regions controlled by the Islamic fighters in western Daraa countryside.

Further, the Syrian regime forces and ISIS denied Saturday reaching an agreement by which ISIS evacuates Yarmouk Camp.

Russia Today reported from field sources that the festivities between the two sides stopped since 12 noon and until 5 in the morning. ISIS showed readiness to withdraw its members and families, a total of 17000.

ISIS announced that its members are still clashing with the regime forces, noting that the corpse count reached 900 since 28 days and 37 vehicles were destroyed.

De Blasio to tell NYPD to stop arresting New Yorkers for smoking pot in public
But tobacco is still streng verboten.
[NYDAILYNEWS] Mayor de Blasio will tell the NYPD to stop arresting people for public pot smoking — and launch a new group to officially prepare the city for the outright legalization of marijuana in New York

That policy change will be part of a 30-day review the mayor announced last week to address the massive racial disparity in marijuana arrests.
De Blasio, who has long opposed making recreational pot legal, now says he thinks legalization is inevitable and is creating an official task force to get ready for the day when that happens and implement the new law.

While pot remains illegal, Hizzoner will direct the NYPD to give summonses to people they catch smoking in public instead of arresting them, his aides said Sunday.

That policy change will be part of a 30-day review the mayor announced last week to address the massive racial disparity in marijuana arrests.

Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet to receive 70 more ships by 2027
I realize the price of oil popped up following President Trump’s rejection of his predecessor’s little deal, but can Russia afford this?
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet (PF) will receive more than 70 ships by 2027, the commander of the Pacific Fleet Admiral Sergei Avakyants said on Sunday.

"Until 2027, the total number of the newest warships and vessels that will replenish the Pacific Fleet will exceed 70 units," Avakyants said in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper, published on the website of the newspaper on Monday.

He recalled that the total number of 20380 series corvettes is planned to increaseto eight, and that in 2019 a contract will be signed for the construction of six small missile ships of Project 22800 for the Pacific Fleet.

"Also, the second small marine tanker with a displacement of more than 3,000 tons was recently laid for us at the plant, which is gradually equipped with modern floating equipment and sub-units of naval rescuers," the commander added.

In the near future, servicemen of the Pacific Fleet will start developing diesel-electric submarines of Project 636.3. Also, according to the commander, it is planned to modernize and re-equip the 949A nuclear missile cruisers.

Over 1,000 Germans have fought in Syria, Iraq
[ALMASDARNEWS] The German media group Funke reported on May 20 that Berlin is aware of more than 1,000 German residents, who have left for Syria and Iraq, since the war broke out several years ago, in order to support various terrorist groups. More than half of them have German citizenship.

243 of them left Germany to support the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK, considered a terrorist group in Germany) and the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) in in their battle against ISIS*. According to the media report, the government revealed the numbers while answering questions from parliamentary representatives of the Left Party.

The number of those who left Germany to fight with terrorist groups is still growing, but slower than 2-3 years ago, the German government said. Some of them are beginning to return to Germany.

The government also revealed that, in accordance with coalition agreements between the CDU/CSU and the SPD parties, a mechanism will be developed aimed at stripping those returning from Syria and Iraq of German citizenship, if evidence of ties with bandidos Death Eaters is found.

Left Party representative Ulla Jelpke slammed the initiative as "unconstitutional" and reminded that it could affect those who fought alongside with Kurds against ISIS*. SPD representative Uli Grötsch also criticized the idea as ineffective, saying that prosecution and de-radicalization are required to solve the domestic terrorism problem.

At the same time, the domestic affairs expert of the CDU party noted that the measure will allow authorities to prevent potential jihadist bandidos Death Eaters already at the German border.

Battle for Aleppo heats up as jihadists launch powerful night attack
[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels launched a powerful assault on Aleppo city, tonight, targeting several neighborhoods under the control of the Syrian government.

According to a military report from this front, the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
fired at least three grad missiles at the al-Zahra’a Association Quarter in the northwestern part of the city.

The jihadist rebels would then launch a barrage of missiles and artillery shells towards more government-held districts in Aleppo, causing several kabooms that could be heard throughout the lovely provincial capital.

Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham launched these missiles and artillery shells from their positions in nearby Kafr Hamra, which is a large town located just northwest of Aleppo.

In retaliation for the HTS attack, the Syrian military fired a flurry of missiles towards Kafr Hamra; this assault would be amalgamated with several Arclight airstrikes from the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF).

President Trump ‘Surprising’ Announcement for New VA Secretary Nominee
[OANN] President Trump announced his decision to nominate Robert Wilke for the position of Secretary of Veterans Affairs early Friday morning during a public event. The announcement caught Wilke by surprise with the President saying, "He doesn’t know this yet, but I’m going to be informing him."

The announcement comes one day after Wilke, who is the current acting secretary for the department, joined Sarah Sanders in the briefing room to accept a donation of the President’s first quarter salary to the Veterans Affairs Department. Wilke has been serving as interim secretary since March when the President fired former Secretary David Shulkin amidst weeks of controversy concerning his travel and other behavior.

Wilke’s nomination follows on the heels of another controversy in which the administration’s former nominee, Dr. Ronny Jackson, withdrew his nomination after Senator John Tester (D-MT) made unverified allegations concerning the former presidential physician. An ugly confirmation situation immediately ensued prompting Dr. Jackson’s decision to leave the process.

Wilke’s current position is not without controversy as some groups blasted the President for appointing Wilke as interim secretary for bypassing Deputy Secretary Thomas Bowman. The statue that allows the President to appoint an acting secretary does not provide for guidance in the case of "firing" creating ambiguity.

However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
Wilke will now begin the process towards Senate confirmation. The current acting secretary has a strong history having first been appointed to the Pentagon by Bush 43 in 2006 and confirmed by the Senate as Undersecretary for Personnel and Readiness in November 2017.

Politifact is keeping track of President Trump’s quarterly salary donations here.

Israel TV: Confident Hamas planned victory rallies for its leaders inside Israel
Hope is not a plan...
[IsraelTimes] Hadashot news claims Gazoo protesters given specific instructions by terror group, urged to bring 'knife or handgun' to rallies; IDF commanders recount violence hitherto unseen

Though it has sought to portray weeks of violent demonstrations along the Gazoo Strip’s border with Israel as popular protests, Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", has been heavily involved in planning the festivities and provided instructions to participants on desired behavior, Israel’s Hadashot TV news reported Friday.

The terror group disseminated detailed directives via social media ahead of Monday’s violent festivities at the border, the TV report said. These directives went so far as to inform protesters in which Israeli community each terrorist leader would be delivering victory speeches after the protests had achieved their stated goal of breaching the border.

"What he had on him was not an bomb, it was not dangerous in itself, but it was electrical, electronic equipment that could be used to make an bomb," public prosecutor Xavier Tarabeux told AFP.

"We do not yet know his identity but this man says he is Chechen and speaks Russian," he added.

La Belle France has been on high alert after a Chechen-born Frenchie stabbed a man to death last week and maimed four others in an attack in Gay Paree that Sherlocks believe was terror-inspired.

It was just the latest in a line of jihadist attacks that have killed more than 240 people in the last three years.

Police and prosecutors said they were interrogating the man arrested in Marseilles to ascertain whether he was planning an attack.

However the city's mayor Jean-Claude Gaudin issued a statement saying an attack had been "foiled" and that the suspect had "obvious terrorist intentions."

Pope to appoint 14 new cardinals including one from Pakistan
[DAWN] Pope Francis announced on Sunday that he will hold a meeting of the Church's top council to appoint 14 new cardinals next month, including from Iraq, Pakistain, Madagascar and Japan.

In the event of a conclave of cardinals to name a new pope, 11 of the new 14 being under 80 years of age would be eligible to take part.

"I am happy to announce that on June 29 there will be a consistory meeting to appoint 14 new cardinals. Their origins reflect the universality of the church," Pope Francis said in an address in Saint Peter's square.

Among the new cardinals will be Iraq's Louis Sako who has often met Pope Francis to discuss the situation in the war-torn country and the plight of its Christian community.

From Pakistain comes Joseph Coutts of Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
with Desire Tsarahazana from Toamasina in Madagascar and Thomas Aquinas Manyo from Osaka in Japan.

As well as having the key role of choosing a new pope, cardinals often also hold the highest administrative offices in the church.

Pope Francis, the first head of the church from Latin America is 81 and was named in 2013 after his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI stood down citing the effect of advancing age on his ability to carry out the exacting duties of the office.

Asma Nawab's wrongful imprisonment sheds light on slow justice
[DAWN] Asma Nawab spent two decades in jail, wrongfully accused of murdering her family. Finally acquitted, she is seeking a new life, free from whispers and memories, as her plight draws fresh questions over country's justice system.

Nawab was just 16 years old when someone slit the throats of her parents and only brother during an attempted robbery at their home in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
in 1998.

It was not until 2015 that her lawyers petitioned the Supreme Court, which ‐ after a three-year hearing ‐ ordered Nawab released due to lack of evidence last month.

"The verdict of this case was given in 12 days but it took 19 and a half years to dispose of the appeals," her lawyer Javed Chatari told AFP.
With the killings dominating headlines, prosecutors pushed for swift justice in a 12-day trial that ended with a death sentence handed to Nawab and her then-fiance.

The next 20 years were "very painful", Nawab, now 36, says tearfully.

At first the other inmates were sceptical at her protests of innocence, but eventually she formed a new "family" of women ‐ some convicted of kidnappings, others of murders.

They supported one another when progress on their cases was poor, or family neglected them.

"We would cry on Eid and other festivals... It was very painful. I would feel it intensely" when relatives failed to visit, she said through sobs. "Only once my uncle came to see me."

Though her trial was speedy, her appeal moved at a glacial speed through country's creaky justice system.

Earlier, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted the security front man of the Presidency of State Security as saying that 7 people have been arrested for suspicious communication with foreign entities and actions against the state.

It said authorities detected coordinated activities by a group of people, who carried out an organized work to violate the religious and national principles of the state.

"They also had communications with foreign entities to support their activities and also sought to recruit persons working in sensitive government posts as well as providing financial support to hostile elements abroad with the objective of undermining the Kingdom’s security and stability, its social peace and national cohesion," the spokesperson added.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Death toll from blasts at Syria airbase climbs to 28; rebels take responsibility
[IsraelTimes] Pro-Assad forces deny any Iranians or Hezbollah members killed in Friday kabooms

At least 28 pro-government fighters have been killed in a string of blasts at a regime airbase in central Syria earlier this weekend, a monitor said Sunday as it upped the corpse count.

The deadly kabooms tore through weapons and fuel depots on Friday at a military airport in Syria’s Hama province, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"The toll has gone up to at least 28 regime forces and loyalist fighters, all Syrian," said the Britannia-based monitor, after initially reporting 11 killed.

It said the corpse count could rise as "dozens" are maimed and "some of them at death's door," it said.

Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman said there may also be casualties from other nationalities, as fighters from regime backer Iran and the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah were deployed there.

But a joint operations room of Syria’s regional allies denied any of their forces had been killed in the kabooms.

"We have no military advisers in the Hama airbase. We have no depots and have not positioned forces from Iran or elsewhere at this airport," it said in a statement carried on Hezbollah’s War Media Channel.

Syrian state media reported the blasts at the time but did not provide any details, while the Observatory had said they were likely due to a technical malfunction.

A rebel group called Saraya al-Jihad took responsibility for the attack, but the claim could not be independently verified.

The Sky News Arabia outlet reported that the kabooms were caused by an attack on an advanced Iranian air defense system.

The blasts came soon after midday, as the region experienced a scorching heat wave. Almost all previous Israeli Arclight airstrikes on targets in Syria have been late at night or in the pre-dawn hours.

According to Sky News, the target of the strike was an Iranian Bavar 373 long-range missile defense system, a state-of-the-art model that was unveiled in 2016 and put into service in March 2017. Iranian officials compare the system to the Russian-made S-300 system, which is considered a powerful air defense platform.

Video footage from the scene, posted to social media, showed a huge cloud of smoke rising out of the military air field.

Israeli officials have repeatedly stated that the Jewish state will not accept Iranian entrenchment in Syria and is prepared to take military action in order to prevent it.

Last week, the Israeli army reportedly told senior ministers that it believes the current round of hostilities was over, but tensions in the north will persist, and that border incidents are still possible.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Suffering chest pains, Abbas taken to hospital for the third time in a week
More on this report from yesterday.
[IsraelTimes] Sources say PA leader had trouble walking, has fever and may have pneumonia; his office says he is following up on ear surgery from last week

Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
was taken to a Ramallah hospital Sunday for the third time in a week.

Sources told Israel’s Channel 10 and the AFP news agency that he was suffering from chest pains.

A Paleostinian official told the News Agency that Dare Not be Named Abbas had a fever.

He was still hospitalized on Sunday evening.

Israel’s Channel 10 news said he was rushed to the hospital, and that eyewitnesses said he "had trouble walking" and even "needed artificial respiration" at the hospital. The TV report stressed that the hospital had not confirmed this.

The report quoted hospital sources saying Abbas had a chest infection, and had been given antibiotics.

His office said Abbas was undergoing a followup examination after having surgery in his ear Tuesday, and that doctors said he was in "satisfactory" condition.

A PA source earlier Sunday told the Ynet news website the Paleostinian leader had been suffering from chest pains. "It might be pneumonia," the source said. "He’s being examined at the hospital."

The top PLO official Saeb Erekat
...negotiated the Oslo Accords with Israel. He has been chief Paleostinian negotiator since 1995. He is currently negotiating with Israel to establish a de jure Paleostinian state...
was quoted by Channel 10 on Sunday afternoon saying he had just visited Abbas. Eerekat said Abbas’s "condition is good," and that he expected Abbas to leave hospital on Monday or Tuesday. He was being kept under observation, Erekat was quoted saying.

A hospital source later told Hadashot TV Abbas would likely be discharged on Monday.

Last Tuesday Abbas, 83, underwent surgery in his ear which he described as "minor," telling The Times of Israel he was in good shape.

On Saturday he was briefly taken to hospital again, with his office saying he had gone to follow up on the operation.

The PA source had insisted Sunday’s health incident was not tied to the PA leader’s visits to the hospital last week.

Abbas earlier in the week dismissed rumors of declining health. A heavy smoker, he has a long history of health issues, ranging from heart troubles to a bout of prostate cancer a decade ago. Last summer, he dispelled rumors he had suffered a stroke.

Abbas has not designated a successor, and the Paleostinians have not held presidential elections since 2005 because of the split between Abbas’s Fatah party and the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror group, which rules Gazoo.

[Fox via Right Scoop] Well Trump demanded it today, and Rosenstein followed the command.

The Justice Department asked its watchdog to look into any alleged "impropriety or political motivation" in the FBI’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election, the DOJ said Sunday night ‐ hours after President Trump ordered a review looking into whether federal agents infiltrated or surveilled his campaign for political purposes.

John Brennan Fires Warning Shot to Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell After POTUS Orders DOJ to Investigate FBI's Campaign Infiltration
Additional confirmation of the existence of the Shadow Government.
[Gateway Pundit] Former CIA Director-turned-Twitter troll, John Brennan lashed out at Trump on Sunday evening after the President ordered the DOJ to investigate the FBI’s infiltration of his campaign.

Brennan also fired a warning shot to House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, claiming they will ’bear the majority of the responsibility of the harm done to our democracy’ if they don’t stop Trump.

As previously reported by TGP’s Kristinn Taylor, President Trump tweeted Sunday afternoon he is ordering the Justice Department to investigate whether the Obama administration spied on his 2016 presidential campaign.

The order comes on the heels of leaks to the New York Times and Washington Post that the Obama administration had an "informant" make several approaches to three Trump campaign officials, included one that involved an offer of cash and another an offer to "advise" the campaign.

Trump tweeted: "I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes ‐ and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!" the president tweeted.

Lawyers spend tons of (billable) time reviewing documents for production, and I have never heard one say, "This document is so good for our case that we need to make sure the judge and jury never see it."

US, China agree to abandon trade war
[Yahoo] Washington and Beijing have agreed to abandon any trade war and back off from imposing tariffs on each other, Chinese state media reported Sunday.
Gee... it almost seems like Trump knows how to drive a deal even when making threats.
The announcement came after high-level talks in the US capital and followed months of tensions over what President Donald Trump has blasted as an unfair commercial relationship between the two economic giants.

Vice-Premier Liu He, who led Chinese negotiators in Washington said: "The two sides reached a consensus, will not fight a trade war, and will stop increasing tariffs on each other," state-run news agency Xinhua reported Sunday.
Great. Remove the unfair trade practices against us and we might have a deal
Liu called the agreement a "necessity", but added: "At the same time it must be realised that unfreezing the ice cannot be done in a day, solving the structural problems of the economic and trade relations between the two countries will take time."

An earlier joint statement issued in Washington said Beijing would "significantly" increase its purchases of American goods, but offered few details.

The apparent detente comes after months of increasing tensions that have set markets on edge over fears of a damaging trade war.

Trump has repeatedly railed against his country's trade deficit with China, describing it as a danger to US national security and threatening to impose tariffs on billions of dollars' worth of Chinese goods.

US levies on $50 billion of Chinese imports could have come into effect as early as next week.

The talks in Washington were between delegations led by US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Liu, who also met Thursday with Trump. The sides had met earlier in Beijing.

"There was a consensus on taking effective measures to substantially reduce the United States trade deficit in goods with China," the joint statement said.

"To meet the growing consumption needs of the Chinese people and the need for high-quality economic development, China will significantly increase purchases of United States goods and services."

- 'Meaningful increases' -
Last year, the United States had a $375.2 billion trade deficit with China, with populist politicians blaming the Asian powerhouse for the leeching of American jobs over the last few decades.

Washington reportedly had demanded the deficit be slashed by at least $200 billion by 2020.

However, the joint statement held no indication that China had assented to that target.

It said both sides had agreed on "meaningful increases" in US agriculture and energy exports. Liu said the new trade cooperation would extend to medical care, high-tech products, and finance, according to Xinhua.

They also agreed to strengthen cooperation on protecting intellectual property -- a long-standing source of US discontent.

The two countries, their economies enormously interlinked, opened the delicate negotiations a few weeks ago.

Trump had threatened China with tariffs on up to $150 billion of imports, prompting Beijing to warn it would target US agricultural exports, aircraft, and even whiskey.

Soviet WWII warship lost on Lake Ladoga found
[SputnikNews] Submariners began on May 19 to lift parts of the ship that was for many years considered forever lost to the bottom of Lake Ladoga.

Belarusian diver Igor Matyuk discovered the remains of the flagship of the Ladoga flotilla, the so-called "Purga" guard ship. Divers had been unable to find the "Purga" for a long time. While the location of the nearly 100-meter ship was already presumed, the bottom of the lake was unable to be investigated using devices, but required the divers to examine the location themselves. The flagship took fought its last battle in 1942 near the Osinovetsky lighthouse, but was finally sunk as the result of a German airstrike.

#1  Wiki: "The Uragan-class guard ships were built for the Soviet Navy as small patrol and escort ships. Eighteen were built in the 1930s and served during World War II in all four of the Soviet Fleets: Baltic, Black Sea, Northern and Pacific. Four were lost during the war and the rest remained in service until the late 1950s in various secondary roles. The official Soviet designation was Project "2, Project 4 and Project 39, but they were nicknamed the "Bad Weather Flotilla" by Soviet sailors by virtue of their meteorological names. Heh.

"Sunk 1 September 1942, but later raised"

Something tells me there is an interesting story about this ship.

US denies carrying out airstrikes that massacred over 25 civilians in eastern Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] The US-led Coalition denied conducting the Arclight airstrikes on Syria that killed scores of civilians in the province of al-Hasakah, Brigadier General of the coalition James Glynn told RIA Novosti on Sunday.

According to Iraqi media, the international coalition launched airstrikes against the positions of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
terrorist group (ISIS) in Syria from a military base in the Iraqi province of al-Anbar in early May.

"There are no airstrikes that would be launched by coalition forces from western Iraq," Glynn said.

The coalition led by the US regularly conducts strikes that occasionally hit civilian targets.

The coalition has recognized that at least 883 civilians have been killed since 2014 because of its airstrikes in Syria and Iraq.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Nunnes: If 'taxpayer' money was used for 'spy ring' it's over
[Breitbart] House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) said if the reports of a potential FBI informant in the 2016 presidential campaign of President Donald Trump were true that is an "absolute red line."

Nunes said, "If any of that is true, if they ran a spy ring or informant ring and paying people within the Trump campaign ‐ if any of that is true, that is an absolute red line."

He continued, "If they paid someone, it’s an absolute red line, and this is over with. I don’t know how to say this. There is no possible way that we should be allowing ‐ even if it was legal, we should never allow this in this country. Congress should not allow for anything like this to ever occur again to any political campaign if it in fact happened. This is why I’ll say again all they have to do is provide us documentation."

He added, "What I’m saying when I say it’s over is this whole thing is a scam. There is real abuse here."

Seething at Gaza leadership, young Palestinian father sets himself ablaze
[Ynet] A 20-year-old Paleostinian father of two from Gazoo set himself on fire Saturday night in the city's Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, all while cursing the strip's Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbung millipede, rulers who he apparently blamed for his family's poverty and the dismal economic situation in Gazoo.

The young man, Fathi Harb, survived the self-immolation, and is currently in moderate condition.

Eye witnesses saw the man dousing himself in flammable liquid shouting "damn the government" before lighting himself up. Video footage of the incident shows the young man burning alive and screaming in agony with passersby rushing to put out the flames.

Fathi's family and associates emphasized that he does not suffer from mental illness, but noting he was distraught over his brother's injury in one of the "March of Return" demonstrations at the border with Israel, which are organized and promoted by Hamas.
The Times of Israel adds:
An employee of the Paleostinian Authority in the Gazoo Strip whose salary has been withheld for several months set himself on fire Saturday night, and was moderately injured.

Fathi Walid Khareb, 22, whose wife is soon expected to give birth to their third child, was apparently despondent over his family’s poverty.

Europe
Iran says Europe's support for nuclear deal not enough
[Ynet] Iran's Mohammad Javad Zarif says European political support to preserve 2015 nuclear accord is 'not sufficient' after US pulls out of deal; EU leaders say they want to preserve deal since the 'agreement works'; new credit lines for Tehran, increased energy cooperation and implementing EU laws to block European companies from caving in to US sanctions are considered by EU to keep Tehran in nuclear accord.

The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
is not doing enough to preserve the benefits for Iran from the 2015 international nuclear pact following the withdrawal of the United States, Iran's foreign minister told the EU's energy chief on Sunday.

ISIS at the border: Iraq tightens security, catches ISIS copper sneaking in

Iraq tightens security measures after Islamic State sniper threat

Diyala (Iraqinews.com) – Iraqi security forces beefed up their presence in the border areas between Diyala and Salahuddin provinces as a threat of Islamic State snipers started to emerge again, a local official was quoted as saying Saturday.

“Security measures have been tightened in al-Subai’at, Albu Juma’a and al-Mita villages on Diyala-Salahuddin borders due to the sudden and unprecedented activity of Islamic State snipers,” Mohammed Deifan al-Obeidi, the head of al-Azeem’s provincial council, told Alghad Press.

Citing a recent attack on several security checkpoints in the province, al-Obeidi stressed the need for launching a wide-scale security operation to end the threat of Islamic State in these border areas.
