Portland mayor calls for feds to revoke permits allowing Pro-Trump rallies. "Hate speech is not protected"

#1  Two things:

a) This isn't hate speech (unless we go by the metric that you hate it)

b) Even hate speech is protected speech

The left will just send Antifa anyway. If they can't control it, they will attempt to intimidate it.
Posted by: DarthVader || 05/30/2017 9:44 Comments || Top||

#2  Notice the revoking of permits only applies to those of the opposition - conservatives. The June 4 Antifa event will be allowed to go on as planned. Important to consider that the murders did not take place during any "event" but the Dems moved immediately to impugn and entire ideology, as always.

#5  The mayor of Portland, Oregon, on Monday urged U.S. officials and organizers to cancel

Some questions occur:

Would local federal officials so openly go against their boss, the president?

If they did, what odds they would find themslves on the wrong side of President Trump's promise to downsize federal staffing by 20% through hiring freezes, retirements, and attrition?

Or, given that this is a federal responsibility, and the feds aren't much interested in the opinions of local politicians, how likely is it that the honourable mayor of Portland is merely posturing for effect?

#6  Is the venue federal property? The origianl article doesn't say. Otherwise, does the federal government often deal with permits at local venues?
Posted by: rjschwarz || 05/30/2017 12:59 Comments || Top||

#7  Yes, the park is federal property. Which is most likely why the organizers have the event there since Mr. Fuckstick and his 1st Portland Brigade of Assclowns would have denied a permit anywhere else.

CNN's Zakaria: Liberals Aren't Tolerant and Suffer from 'Anti-Intellectualism'
[LI] Fareed Zakaria said Saturday that though many liberals think they are tolerant, often they aren’t.

Zakaria noted that "at the height of commencement season," many new graduates across the country had made their political views apparent, from the Notre Dame students who walked out as Vice President Mike Pence gave his commencement address to the crowd members who booed Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos during a speech at Bethune-Cookman University.

"American universities seem committed to every kind of diversity except intellectual diversity. Conservative voices and views are being silenced entirely," Zakaria said.

The CNN host said he found this attitude strange, especially given that these incidents occurred on college campuses that "promised to give their undergraduates a liberal education."

"The word liberal in this context has nothing to do with today’s partisan language, but refers instead to the Latin root, pertaining to liberty. And at the heart of liberty in the Western world has been freedom of speech. From the beginning, people understood that this meant protecting and listening to speech with which you disagreed," Zakaria argued.

That means, he said, not drowning out "the ideas that we find offensive."

In addition, Zakaria noted what he called "an anti-intellectualism" on the left.

"It’s an attitude of self-righteousness that says we are so pure, we’re so morally superior, we cannot bear to hear an idea with which we disagree," he said.

"Liberals think they are tolerant but often they aren’t," he added.

So much easier just to parrot the party line and have everyone tell you how intelligent you are rather than, you know, actually study and work hard.

Farmer Faces $2.8 Million Fine For Plowing His Own Field
[Free Beacon] A California farmer is facing a $2.8 million fine for failing to get a permit to plow his own field.

John Duarte bought 450 acres of land near Modesto in 2012 and is now being sued by the federal government for plowing near areas the government considers to be "waters of the United States."

A farmer faces trial in federal court this summer and a $2.8 million fine for failing to get a permit to plow his field and plant wheat in Tehama County.

A lawyer for Duarte Nursery said the case is important because it could set a precedent requiring other farmers to obtain costly, time-consuming permits just to plow.

"The case is the first time that we're aware of that says you need to get a (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) permit to plow to grow crops," said Anthony Francois, a lawyer for the Pacific Legal Foundation. The libertarian-leaning nonprofit fights for private property rights and limited government.

"We're not going to produce much food under those kinds of regulations," Francois said.

The case will head to trial in August. The government claims that Duarte violated the Clean Water Act because he did not obtain a permit to work near the wetlands. Francois, the attorney for Duarte, said farmers plowing their fields are exempt from federal rules.

France's Special Forces Hunt French Militants Fighting for Islamic State

French special forces have for months enlisted Iraqi soldiers to hunt and kill French nationals who have joined the senior ranks of Islamic State, according to Iraqi officers and current and former French officials.

Iraqi commanders leading the fight for Mosul said French special forces have provided to Iraqi counterterrorism troops the names and photographs of as many as 30 men identified as high-value targets. An undisclosed number of French citizens have been killed by Iraqi artillery and ground forces, the commanders said, using location coordinates and other intelligence supplied by the French.

The motive for the secret operation is to ensure that French nationals with allegiance to Islamic State never return home to threaten France with a terror attack, said a current and a former foreign-affairs adviser to the French government. France has been the target of several deadly attacks either inspired by Islamic State or orchestrated from the militants’ Middle East strongholds, including the November 2015 Paris strikes.

A French Ministry of Defense spokeswoman declined to comment on the operation. "French forces work in close cooperation with their Iraqi and international partners," she said, to fight jihadists, "regardless of national origin," referring to the 1,200 French troops assisting Iraqi forces to retake Mosul.

The French special forces maintain their distance from the killings--France has no death penalty--by directing Iraqi fighters to target French Islamic State fighters, according to the current and former French government advisers.

A senior Iraqi police official showed The Wall Street Journal a list of names of 27 suspected Islamic State members sought by France, accompanied by photos of five of the men. French special forces began circulating the document at the start of the Mosul offensive last year. It is updated as men are killed, the police official said.

#1  ~1,700Frenchmen have joined the militants in Iraq and Syria. French government officials have estimated that hundreds of those men have either died in battle or returned home.

Seems like a part of a viable strategy to thin out the herd. France better root out those who have already returned home. They should not be allowed to come home. Maybe for those who have already returned home, Devils Island could be re-activated.

Australia plans to ban pedophiles from traveling overseas
[ABC] Australia plans to ban convicted pedophiles from traveling overseas in what the government said Tuesday is a world-first move to protect vulnerable children in Southeast Asia from exploitation.

Australian pedophiles are notorious for taking inexpensive vacations to nearby Southeast Asian and Pacific island countries to abuse children there.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said she would cancel the passports of around 20,000 pedophiles on the national child sex offender register under legislation that will be introduced to Parliament soon.

"There has been increasing community concern about sexual exploitation of vulnerable children and community concern is justified," she told reporters.

Almost 800 registered child sex offenders travelled overseas from Australia last year and about half went to Southeast Asian destinations, she said.

Britain
Bloody Hands in Manchester
[SultanKnish] In the months before weeping little girls with nails in their faces were carried out of the Manchester Arena, the authorities of that city were hard at work fighting the dreaded threat of Islamophobia.

While Salman Abedi, the second-generation Muslim refugee terrorist who maimed and killed dozens in a brutal terrorist attack, stalked the streets wailing, "There is no god but Allah and Mohammed is the messenger of Allah", Manchester police were busy with more important things.

The Greater Manchester Police are one of only two police forces to list Islamophobia as a hate crime category. Earlier this year, Chief Constable Ian Hopkins honored Tell Mama for fighting Islamophobia. Tell Mama had lost funding earlier when its claims of a plague of violent Islamophobia fell apart.

...After the attack, Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham vowed on camera, "terrorists will never beat us". The terrorists don’t need to beat Burnham. He’ll eagerly collaborate without so much as a single slap.

Last year the left-wing politician fought the government’s efforts to crack down on Islamic terror. "It is creating a feeling in the Muslim community that it is being spied upon and unfairly targeted," he whined.

Europe
Spengler: Merkel throws Trump in the briar patch
[PJMedia] Donald Trump and Angela Merkel now agree about the main issues in US-German relations. "The times in which we could rely fully on others -- they are a way past us," Merkel told a beer-tent rally of her political party. "We Europeans really have to take our fate into our own hands." That is just what President Trump has been telling the Europeans since the beginning of last year’s US election campaign, demanding in particular that Europe pay more for its own defense. Both Trump and Merkel, moreover, say they want the Euro to strengthen against the U.S. dollar. That buries the two bones of contention between Berlin and Washington. Everything else is political posturing and fake news.

...Merkel is running for re-election to a fourth term in next September’s national elections, and it does her more good to denounce Trump than to speak of policy convergence. The German public hates Donald Trump with a visceral passion. The country’s largest-circulation news magazine, Der Spiegel, titled an editorial last week, "It’s time to get rid of Donald Trump," explaining: "Donald Trump has transformed the United States into a laughing-stock and he is a danger to the world. He must be removed from the White House before things get even worse."

...For all the beer-tent talk about taking Europe’s destiny into its own hands, Chancellor Merkel knows perfectly well that she needs the United States to deal with the actual and prospective crises on Europe’s borders. Germany will increase its defense spending, but young Germans will not join the Bundeswehr to fight for future generations, for the simple reason that there won’t be much in the way of future generations. German women (excluding immigrants) average 1.3 children, one of the world’s lowest fertility rates. Germany’s infecund, aging population has no reason to fight for a dubious German future.
And USA needs Germany because?

Well, they still have good engineering and tech, and fertile land.

As far as needing Germans goes, we really just need the scientists, engineers, manufacturers, and maybe some farmers.

The rest are useless.

#3  I'm afraid that history will not be kind to Angela Merkel. Germany and her precious European Union are heavily burdened with debt and Third World refugeescolonists as a result of her policies. There is no indication that she is considering any effective remedies for these problems so they will most likely continue to worsen until they get completely out of control. It is most unpleasant to think about what will happen then.

UK PM May says prepared to leave EU without a Brexit deal
[Jpost] British Prime Minister Theresa May said on Monday she was ready to walk away from Brexit negotiations without a deal with the European Union if the agreement wasn't good enough.

"We will be there to negotiate the right deal but what I have said is that no deal is better than a bad deal. We have to be prepared to walk out," she said to applause during a Sky News interview on Monday.

Britons elect a new government in ten days' time as polls show May's Conservatives are seeing their lead over the opposition Labour Party narrow.

Kislyak said Kushner suggested using Russian diplomatic facilities in the United States for the communications.
How very strange. Platte River Networks of Denver, CO. provided discreet, global, back-channel communications to the Clintons for years. Apparently no one noticed or said anything.
The meeting also was attended by Michael Flynn, Trump’s first national security adviser.

Kushner’s apparent interest in establishing a secret channel with Moscow, rather than relying on U.S. government systems, has added to the intrigue surrounding the Trump administration’s relationship with Russia.
No real 'intrigue' but rather the exposure of a much larger classified documents and communications security (COMSEC) problem.
Moved to P. 6: Seedy Politics because that's what the Washington Post is playing at.

Seems as though I remember Soetoro sending special, rather secretive representatives to conduct face-to-face discussions on the Iranian deal. Soetoro always preferred the 'back nine' for more intimate discussions here at home. Clandestine monitoring and unauthorized leaks 'be hard' on the 'back nine.'

Panamanian strongman Manuel Noriega, Tango Uniform at 83
[WAPO] Gen. Manuel Noriega, the Panamanian strongman and onetime American ally who was toppled from power in a 1989 U.S. invasion and who spent more than two decades imprisoned on drug dealing and conspiracy convictions, has died. He was most likely 83.

The cause of death was not announced but Gen. Noriega had been in intensive care at a hospital for months after complications from surgery to remove a benign brain tumor.

Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela announced the death on Twitter Tuesday morning, saying that the passing closes a chapter in the country’s history.

A career military man, Gen. Noriega led the Panamanian Defense Forces from 1983 until President George H.W. Bush ordered the invasion on Dec. 20, 1989, which followed months of deteriorating relations between Panama and the United States.

Gen. Noriega was a polarizing figure for decades after he was led in chains from Panama by U.S. marshals on Jan. 4, 1990, to a federal prison in Miami.

‘This is not the end': Using immunotherapy and a genetic glitch to give cancer patients hope
[WAPO] The oncologist was blunt: Stefanie Joho’s colon cancer was raging out of control and there was nothing more she could do. Flanked by her parents and sister, the 23-year-old felt something wet on her shoulder. She looked up to see her father weeping.

"I felt dead inside, utterly demoralized, ready to be done," Joho remembers.

But her younger sister couldn’t accept that. When the family got back to Joho’s apartment in New York’s Flatiron district, Jess opened her laptop and began searching frantically for clinical trials, using medical words she’d heard but not fully understood. An hour later, she came into her sister’s room and showed her what she’d found. "I’m not letting you give up," she told Stefanie. "This is not the end."

That search led to a contact at Johns Hopkins University, and a few days later, Joho got a call from a cancer geneticist co-leading a study there. "Get down here as fast as you can!" Luis Diaz said. "We are having tremendous success with patients like you."

Researching on a laptop brings in no money, going from patent to patent brings in lots of money. Which route do you think most hospitals will take?

Johns Hopkins University OTOH is funded mostly by grants, etc.. There's little pressure (other than getting grants) to generate income so doctors there and in other similar non-profit centers can actually take their time to research properly and come up wit solutions.

#3  Nothing at all to do with competence. It's a sort of a 'space-time continuum' strategy. Moving in all directions, over an extended period of time enables confusion and frustration. The higher number of marbles rolling around on the kitchen table, the more difficult it becomes to keep them from falling off. The unstated goal of course is to get certain marbles to 'fall off' and be forgotten.

Truth is fairly simple and straight forward. Trickery, confusion, and obfuscation require time to reach full maturation.

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group who was plotting attacks during the Moslem fasting month of Ramadan, authorities say on Monday.

The interior ministry does not identify the suspect, but says he was a leading member of IS and "dangerous" and was killed in an operation Sunday night by the National Guard near the Algerian border.

Judiciary front man Sofiene Sliti tells Shems FM radio the suspect is a Tunisian known as Houssem Tlithi, born in 1997.
A precocious young fellow, but ISIS is the kind of organization where it's up or out... feet first.
The interior ministry says the suspect had been on the run since 2014 and hiding in the Mount Salloum region, a jihadist stronghold.

During Sunday night’s operation, another jihadist was maimed and weapons seized, including a Kalashnikov assault rifle and material used to make boom belts.

The interior ministry says they were to be used for "terrorist" attacks during Ramadan, a holy month which started Saturday and during which believers abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk.

Raqqa being hammered with airstrikes, artillery
BEIRUT: Syrian opposition activists say more airstrikes and artillery shelling have hit the northern city of Raqqa, the de facto capital of the Daesh group.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the city was pounded by warplanes and artillery early in the morning on Monday. The activist group had no immediate word on casualties.

It said the bombardment comes as Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces captured new areas west of Raqqa.

The activist-operated Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently says that since Sunday, the US-led coalition has carried out more than 30 airstrikes on the city, killing 35 people and destroying a school on Raqqa’s northern outskirts.

Airstrikes have intensified over the past days as US-backed fighters have marched toward the city, getting closer to besieging it from all sides.
The Times of Israel adds:
SDF fighters surround Raqqa from the north, west and east. The extremists still have an exit from the south, even though the US-led coalition destroyed two bridges on the Euphrates River south of Raqqa.

On Sunday, opposition activists say the US-led coalition dropped leaflets in Arabic on Raqqa, urging residents to leave the city. Some leaflets gave instructions of how to leave Raqqa, calling on people to keep their plans secret from IS and to leave without any weapons and waving a white banner.

Iraq
Iranian militias capture towns along Syria/Iraqi border
(Reuters/IraqiNews.com) An Iraqi Shi’ite Muslim force backed by Iran said it pushed Islamic State out of a group of villages on the border with Syria on Monday, a manoeuvre that could weaken the militants’ hold on the frontier.

The Iraqi territory taken by the Popular Mobilisation force connected with land held by U.S.-backed Syrian Kurdish groups on the Syrian side, creating a possible bridge.

In a statement on its website, Popular Mobilisation described its advance through Iraq to the border with Syria as “a Ramadan miracle,” referring to the Muslim fasting month which started over the weekend.

Last week, al-Hashd al-Shaabi troops resumed the second phase of operations, launched earlier this month, to liberate the remaining villages in the vicinity of Qairawan and Baaj, after the troops announced full liberation of Qairawan.

Many villages in Qairawan region, a main Islamic State bastion which links between Tal Afar town and the Syrian borders, have been freed since the troops launched an offensive on May 12 to free the region.

The campaign in Baaj runs simultaneously with government troops operations in Mosul.

PMUs, an alliance of more than 60 mostly Shia militias, are recognized by the government as a national force under the Prime Minister’s command.

ISIS attacks in Diyala repelled
Baqubah (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi security forces foiled another attack by Islamic State militants against a checkpoint in Diyala, a security official said on Monday after bloody attacks left several civilian and security casualties.

Ahmed al-Zarkoushi, mayor of Saadiya (60 Km northeast of Baqubah), was quoted saying in press statements that a security force, backed by Popular Mobilization Units, repelled the attack which targeted a checkpoint at Rabia village. He said no casualties resulted from the encounter.

His announcement came a few hours after bloody attacks claimed by the Islamic State, which left civilians and security members dead and wounded.

A suicide bomber blew himself up using an explosive belt at the entrance of a street leading to Diyala governorate building in central Baqubah, killing nine and wounding 12.

A roadside bomb also exploded at Ghanimiya, north of Baqubah, killing six army members, including an officer, and wounding six others,

Violence and armed conflicts claimed the lives of 317 Iraqis and caused injuries to 403 others during the month of April, according to a monthly United Nations count.

Islamic State, almost losing its main holdout in Mosul to a security operation running since October, has been escalating attacks at other provinces where it still has a presence.

Government and tribal forces have launched occasional operations over the past few months to clear border regions between Diyala and Salahuddin, killing dozens of militants. IS fighters have also responded with occasional attacks targeting troops, leaving several deaths.

Officials from towns still held by IS since 2014 have pressed the Iraqi government to hasten with security operations to retake those regions, but the Iraqi government is giving most attention to its battle in Mosul, Islamic State’s largest stronghold in Iraq.

Home Front: Culture Wars
The New Puritanism
[PJMEDIA] ... The new Puritanism cannot abide the time-tested sanctities and moral underpinnings of the Western tradition, in particular with regard to the institution of marriage, durable relationships, or the productive biologically based “contract” that allows for the perpetuation of normative civic existence. The new Puritanism is a pietistic fraud that puts sexual experimentation and violations of the norm before the stable arrangements that promote social and cultural continuity. The Mike Pences of this world must be pilloried and excommunicated while the Caitlyn Jenners are to be celebrated and canonized.

Absent bacterial cell division, the genetic binary is a fact of nature and those who propose that sexual dimorphism is a “social construct” that must be undone are flirting not only with one another but with disaster. The irony of this latest development, however, has escaped its progenitors, for it is precisely the trans phenomenon that is a “social construct.” It does not exist in nature; it has been invented. As Janice Fiamengo writes in an article titled Is Feminism a Religion?: “If evidence for the biological basis of sex is brought forward, a feminist will simply claim in response that all science is sexist,” in other words, we are sexist if we do not consider sex and multiple forms of sexual identity, however anomalous, as the end-all and be-all of human striving rather than as merely one aspect of mutual existence. It may be said that the Puritans of old suffered from repression and projection. The new Puritans suffer from genderitis, that is, libidinous self-election.

When culture attempts to pre-empt nature and deny biology, the result is catastrophic: the disintegration of civil existence, illusion substituting for reality and the peripheral displacing the central. Meanwhile, pressing issues on which our prosperity and survival depend -- a precarious economy, domestic subversion, Islamic jihad, unvetted and illegal immigration, international conflict, the falling replacement fertility rate -- go unattended. Buying into a subprime version of reality can lead to only one result: the foreclosing of the cultural mortgage. No matter. The gender Puritans go marching on.

#1  What we are observing is a bizarre form of Puritanism. And yet the left, who puts forth these fluidities or departures deviations from Puritanism are all too willing to accept the extremist Puritanism of Islam in all its forms and cruelties towards women and others who don't believe in Islam.

If you think there is anything beyond male or female (The very rare genetic hermaphradite is a mutation) then you are dangerously insane and a danger to themselves and everyone else. I suspected lengthy repeated doses of ECT daily for at least 30 years is needed to restore them to reality.

Britain
'I am a Muslim, ask me anything'
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News]
  • A group of Islamic men congregated on a street to condemn the terror attack

  • Imam Kamran Tahir and fellow Muslims wore t-shirts that read: 'Ask me anything'

  • He said members of the public hugged them, high-fived and shook their hands

  • Mr Tahir said he wanted to make clear he stands with those killed in Manchester
Just a few questions off the top of my head:
  1. Are you gonna explode soon?

  2. Do any of your wives have a clitoris?

  3. What's your opinion on statues of Lady Justice? How about Robert E. Lee?

  4. How, precisely, should apostates be killed?

  5. How many chances do your daughters get before you kill them for honor?

  6. Have you ever been to Tora Bora, Mir Ali, Abbottabad, or Qatar? (Don't bother explaining why.)

  7. Should Ahmadis be killed or merely enslaved?

  8. How about Yezdis?

  9. Why do Islamic altar boys need guns?

  10. If a Christian pays a jizya and you kill him and enslave his family anyway, do you have to give the money back?

  11. Why can't a Moslem be governed by a Christian?

  12. Have you ever beaten your wife with a stick thicker than an inch? An inch and a half?

  13. If a nine year old is physically and emotionally ready for marriage, is she physically and emotionally ready to be a preacher?

  14. Why don't you like Valentine's Day?

  15. Why is it haraam to extend best wishes to Christians and Jews on their holidays? How about second best wishes?

  16. Do you like this cartoon of the Prophet that I've drawn?

  17. Are you gonna be back soon? I have more questions.

18. It's great that you're against terrorism! How do you define terrorism?

Afghanistan
Residents flee Kunduz village
Scores of residents from Mullah Sardar village on the outskirt of Kunduz city have fled their homes to avoid a possible war.

They said that Taliban snipers have taken up positions inside residential areas.

But local officials have rejected the claims and said security forces have cleared the village of insurgents.

“The people have been displaced, they are affected and face a lot of problems, their agriculture has been affected, the government must address their plight, but it does not mean that Mullah Sardar village was not cleared during the operation,” said the police Kunduz governor's spokesman Sayed Mahmoud Danish.

Meanwhile a number of Kunduz farmers have said that the war and violence has had a negative impact on agriculture.

Mullah Sardar village is located three kilometers from Kunduz city.

Residents who fled to the highway said that Taliban snipers have taken up positions inside people’s homes.

“The operation is going on in Dand Taloka and other areas, there has not been any kind of operation in Mullah Sardar village,” said a resident of the village, Abdul Jalil.

“All people have been displaced, we left each and everything in the village,” said another villager Rahmat.

“There are many families who have been split and they do not have information about the fate of their loved ones,” said a member of Kunduz provincial council Safiullah Amiri.

The Taliban has over run Kunduz city twice in the past two years.

According to Kunduz agriculture department, war in the province over the recent years has destroyed ten percent of their crops.

This year already five percent of fields have been destroyed in the area due to war.

ISIS Bad Guys die in airstrikes in Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi fighter jets killed several Islamic State militants in an airstrike that targeted their havens in west of Anbar province.

A statement by the War Media Cell said the fighter jets “launched several airstrikes that destroyed two headquarters of the militants, a rest house as well as the weapons inside them on Okashat road, west of Anbar.”

In related news, a military source from the seventh division in Anbar said on Monday that the international coalition led by the U.S. destroyed an IS booby-trapping workshop in west of Anbar.

Speaking to AlSumaria News, the source, who preferred anonymity, said “the coalition jets shelled on Monday a booby-trapping workshop in the city of Rawa, western Anbar.”

“Several militants were killed, while the workshop was destroyed due to the shelling” the source added.

Anbar’s western towns of Annah, Qaim and Rawa have been held by the extremist group since 2014, when it emerged to proclaim a self-styled Islamic Caliphate.

Fighter jets from the Iraqi army and the international coalition have also regularly pounded IS locations in the province. The Iraqi government is expected to aim at those strongholds once the Mosul battle is concluded.

Afghanistan
No documents available to prove landing of unidentified helicopters: Waziri
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The landing of unidentified helicopters in northern parts of the country cannot be confirmed, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) officials said Monday.

MoD front man Gen. Dawlat Waziri told news hounds in Kabul that no documents or evidences are available to confirm the landing of the unidentified helicopters.

He said only such claims exist that unidentified helicopters have made landings in Faryab, Sar-e-Pul
...a city and eponymous province in northern Afghanistan, population about 500,000. Demographically it is majority Tadjik and Uzbek. There are small Pashtun, Arab, and Hazara communities, of which the Hazaras mostly don't bother anyone...
, and Badakhshan provinces.

But he insisted that the Ministry of Defense cannot confirm the landing of the helicopters, urging the local residents to assist the Ministry by providing any kind of document to help the investigations.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Defense says a committee has been formed to investigate the landing of the helicopters.

This comes as a member of the provincial council in Ghazni province claimed that the landing of unidentified helicopters in Waghez and Qarabagh districts have sparked concerns among the local residents.

The secretary of the provincial council of Ghazni, Hassan Reza Yousufi, earlier said some unidentified helicopters have made landings in the two districts.

[Hurriyet Daily News] A court in the southeastern province of Batman on May 29 ordered the arrest of Kurdish-issue focused Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Siirt politician Besime Konca on terror charges, Dogan News Agency has reported.

Earlier in the day, Konca was detained at Batman Airport following a prosecutor’s detention warrant that came shortly after her release earlier this month.

Konca was previously locked away

She was released on probation May 3 but the Batman 3rd High Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for her five days later.

The court ultimately ordered for Konca to be re-arrested on charges of "membership of an armed terror organization" and "engaging in terror propaganda," the same as the previous accusations against her.

Some 10 politicians from the HDP, including its co-chairs Demirtas and Yuksekdag, were arrested on Nov. 4, 2016 and are currently in jail, facing hundreds of years inside for alleged links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Europe
John Bolton weighs in on Chancellor Merkel's remarks [VIDEO]
[Right Scoop] Bolton weighs in on Chancellor Merkel’s comments over the weekend, saying he doesn’t believe this is the end of the alliance at all. In fact he points out that her ire isn’t simply directed at Trump over the Paris Climate Accords, but also at Prime Minister Theresa May who agreed with Trump on many issues involving refugees and immigrants.

Bolton argues that more than Trump, Merkel is really upset with the UK for their Brexit vote because one thing she’s trying to do is get rid of national governments. She believes the only way to stop conflict is by getting rid of national governments and obviously Brexit stands in the way of that.

Bolton also pointed out that she had upset and alienated many EU governments herself with her unilateral policies on accepting refugees.

Of course Bolton reminds us that there is a German election coming up soon, and he believes much of what Merkel said has to do with those elections.

Merkel spokesman: Germany still seeking stronger US ties

Merkel front man Steffen Seibert said Monday Merkel's comments stand for themselves but the German leader is "a convinced trans-Atlanticist." He said German-U.S. relations "are a strong pillar of our foreign and security policy, and Germany will continue working to strengthen these relations."

Seibert added that "precisely because they are so important, it's right to name differences honestly."

[Ynet] During the 1967 war, Israel seized Egyptian and Jordanian operational documents with clear orders to annihilate the civil population. Nevertheless, different academics are distorting the facts in a bid to turn the Arabs into victims and Israel into an aggressor. Here’s the real story.

Pakistanis protest lack of electricity by burning electrical power station
[Yahoo] Violent protests erupted in Pakistan Monday as crippling electricity cuts left hundreds of thousands of people without power in soaring temperatures during the first two days of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

At least one person was killed and eight wounded in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after police opened fire on hundreds of people protesting at the cuts by trying to set a power station ablaze, officials said.

"The protesters first tried to torch the electricity power station and then they attacked a police station," Zafar Ali Shah, a senior government official in Malakand district, told AFP, adding that the demonstrators also attacked government buildings, offices and vehicles.

British Airways could face £100m compensation bill over IT meltdown
Picture of alleged computer in question on left:
Selected text from article:
British Airways could face a bill of at least £100m in compensation, additional customer care and lost business resulting from an IT meltdown that affected more than 1,000 flights over the weekend.

The glitch is believed to have been caused by a power supply issue and there is no evidence of a cyber-attack, the airline said.
Seriously, no redundancy build in to the system?

[Hurriyet Daily News] More than 154,000 people have faced legal probes over suspected links to the movement of the U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen since the July 15, 2016, failed coup attempt, widely believed to have been masterminded by the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ).

Legal procedures were carried out against some 154,694 suspects and 50,136 people were arrested over suspected links to FETÖ, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

According to the agency, some 2,431 judges and prosecutors on duty in the judiciary were arrested, in addition to 104 Supreme Court members, 41 members of the Council of State, two Constitutional Court members and three members from the Supreme Court of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK).

Some 6,982 soldiers, of whom 167 were generals, 8,816 police officers, 23 governors, 72 deputy governors, 112 district governors and 31,550 civilians and public servants were also arrested.

A total of 45,708 of those detained were freed on condition of judicial control and 12,753 were freed after procedures in the security forces and court.

Some 7,430 of those arrested were released, of whom 7,122 were freed on condition of judicial control. A total of 1,312 soldiers, 1,247 police officers, nine deputy governors, three governors, three district governors, 195 judges and prosecutors, two HSYK members, one Council of State member and eight members of the Supreme Court were also released.

Some 665 suspects are still in detention.

No prosecution was seen necessary for 2,763 of the suspects.

Elsewhere, Defense Minister Fikri Işık said Gülenists in the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) were being determined after the attempted takeover and that over 7,800 were dismissed over their suspected links to the movement.

“We are determining the traitors who infiltrated the Turkish Armed Forces one by one. We dismissed over 7,800 people from the TSK due to their links with the group. On the one hand, we are cleaning out these traitors, while on the other hand, we are strengthening our army,” Işık said during an event in the northwestern province of Kocaeli late on May 28, adding that some 305,000 young people applied to the National Defense University.

“Our National Defense University needed 5,200 students for the 2016-2017 academic year. Some 305,000 young people applied since we made the announcement. The people are continuing to own up to their army and they will continue to do so,” he added.

Former head of Turkey’s top religious body slams TV evangelists
[Hurriyet Daily News] Ali Bardakoglu, the former head of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s top religious body has slammed popular TV evangelists for "abusing Islam" for commercial purposes.

Bardakoglu, who headed the Religious Affairs Directorate (Diyanet) between 2003 and 2010, told daily Hurriyet on May 29 that religious TV shows during Ramadan presented a distorted image of Islam.

"You watch the TV programs during Ramadan, but the shows with the highest ratings are those where anecdotes are told the most and tears are shed. Religion is now presented and perceived as little more than melancholy and tears," he said.

"Could such an understanding of religion pull you upwards on the world stage? They describe the life of the Prophet Muhammad in such a way that it becomes impossible to take that life as an example and live that way ... They are only trying to increase their clients for their own commercial purposes. This embarrasses me," Bardakoglu said.

"We have fed them this way. We have said, ’Religion is pain, tears, melancholy and anecdotes.’ We waste time either missing the past or waiting for a savior. We have destroyed the individual, individual conscience and responsibility. We always talk about what happened to us as being either a result of the anger of God or the evilness of others. We have fed a lottery-like understanding by saying, ’Just keep on praying. Say the most effective and mysterious prayer and you’ll be saved from everything.’ When the public has been fed in this way, they look for religious figures who fit that type," he added.

"Those who talk about religion with anecdotes and superstition just because the people want it are involuntarily supporting the idea that religion numbs society," the former Diyanet head said.

"How will such a religious understanding be met by our children and grandchildren. We are slowly approaching a junction. Our children and grandchildren are questioning, seeing, knowing. A religious narrative that doesn’t include basic values such as the individual, women’s rights, human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
, environmental consciousness, information production, social justice, law, and freedom, but instead only includes melancholy, anecdotes, tears, alienation and anger, will end up bringing Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
to our own neighborhoods," Bardakoglu said.

NSC reacts at Zubair Massoud’s remarks about ISIS plans in Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Office of the National Security Council of Afghanistan reacted at the remarks of Zubair Massoud regarding the plans and activities of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group in Afghanistan.

A statement by the Office of the National Security Council said the remarks by Massoud are his own views and do not necessarily represent that of the Afghan government.

The statement further added that Mr. Massoud is no more having an official duty with the Office of the National Security Council, rejecting the designation given to him during an interview with the al-Jazeera.

NSC emphasized that Mr. Massoud has worked as an adviser with the Office of the National Security Council from October 2014 until late October of 2016.

In his interview with the al-Jazeera, Massoud had said "The bully boyz you see in Syria are the same individuals that are here now in Afghanistan. These are bully boyz that come from different countries ‐ from Tajikistan, from Uzbekistan, Chechnya."

Massoud further added "It’s a strategic place. They could go across the border and finally their main goal is Russia."

Emphasizing that the Russians and other neighbouring countries to the north of Afghanistan may not understand the extent of the situation, with numbers of fighters in the region growing at an exponential rate, he said "As I have seen in the last three to four years, we’re in a very bad state in Afghanistan."

Massoud also added that there are about 2,000 imported muscle in Badakhshan only, insisting that more bandidos Death Eaters started to come inside Afghanistan as the US forces were starting to leave the country.

"They’ve come together and they’re increasing in size every day. Last year, there were 300. Now there are 2,000 foreigners in Badakhshan, which is a danger for everyone," he said.

Feudal lord arrested for 'settling' rape of 12-year-old
[DAWN] Kandhkot police on Monday locked away
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
Sardar Taj Mohammad Domki, a senior politician and influential feudal lord belonging to upper Sindh, after he claimed that he had "settled" a case involving the gang rape of a 12-year-old girl by imposing a fine of Rs1.8 million on the "real accused".

In May, media reported that a girl -- a resident of Kandhkot in Sindh -- had been working as a maid in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
when she was allegedly intoxicated and gang-raped. Chief Justice of Pakistain (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar had taken notice of the matter and summoned a report from the Sindh inspector general of police within a week.

In a sudden turn of events, at a presser yesterday (Sunday), Domki claimed to have "settled" the matter through a jirga.

Domki claimed that the girl was not gang-raped, as claimed by her father, Urz Mohammad Golo, in a first information report, but raped by a single person.

"The accused had raped the girl in Karachi after assuring her that he would marry her," Domki said.

The feudal lord claimed that had he not intervened in the matter, the girl would never have been able to get justice from the courts.

Domki's claims were problematic as they completely bypassed the legal infrastructure that seeks to protect rape victims and deals with such cases in accordance with Pakistain's Penal Code.

Dr Samiullah Soomro, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kandhkot, on the directions of his seniors, ordered the registration of an FIR against Sardar Domki, Urz Mohammad Golo and 13 others on behalf of the state for settling the matter in a jirga.

"With Domki under arrest, the police is conducting raids to nab the remaining accused," SHO Mohammad Sadiq Odho told news hounds.

Abbas appoints jailed Israeli Arab terrorist to Fatah Central Committee
Incidentally betraying their Soviet roots with that organization structure...
[IsraelTimes] Karim Younes is serving a 40-year sentence for the kidnapping and killing of an IDF soldier.

Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
has appointed a convicted Israeli Arab terrorist to the governing body of his Fatah party, a watchdog group said Monday.
That will most certainly persuade President Trump that the Palestinians will negotiate in good faith. That never missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity thingy continues.
Abbas selected Karim Younes to be a member of the Fatah Central Committee, according to Paleostinian Media Watch, an Israeli-based non-government organization.

The report came after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that his government was placing a focus on Paleostinians’ glorification of gunnies and incitement. Earlier this week, in the face of Israeli pressure, Norway withdrew funding from a Paleostinian women’s center named for a female terrorist who took part in the 1978 Coastal Road massacre. The UN also distanced itself from the center.

Younes, together with his cousin Maher Younis, kidnapped and murdered IDF soldier Avraham Bromberg as he made his way from his base in the Golan Heights to his home in Zichron Yaakov on November 26, 1980.

Sentenced to life in prison in early 1983, Younis, from the Arab town of ’Aara in central Israel, is now the longest-serving security prisoner in an Israeli jail. In 2012, former president Shimon Peres reduced his sentence to 40 years behind bars. Younis was a member of Fatah when he killed Bromberg.

In May, the PA named two squares after the cousins in the West Bank town of Jenin, PMW said, noting that over a period of 30 days earlier this year, the Paleostinian Authority and Fatah honored 44 gunnies who killed a total of 440 people.

Israel has accused the Paleostinians, including Abbas’s Fatah party, of fanning hatred on social media and calling for violence against Israelis.

Paleostinian officials have generally countered the claim by arguing that harsh Israeli measures and decades of occupation, not incitement, instill hatred and inspire terrorism.
Except that the hatred and terrorism predate the formation of the state of Israel.
PLO Director of Prisoner’s Affairs Issa Qaraqe said that the appointment was designed to show that Paleostinian prisoners "are not gunnies and not criminals" but "freedom prisoners and fighters," PMW reported.

"They are freedom prisoners and fighters who enjoy an important national, human, and legal status among their leadership and among their Paleostinian people," Qaraqe said in PA TV report cited by PMW.

Lawfare: Terror-hunting attorney sets her sights on Western Union and Boeing
[IsraelTimes] Western Union and Boeing had better look out. The American giants are in the cross-hairs of an Israeli lawyer with a track record of humbling huge corporations and winning multi-million-dollar settlements for her clients.

Attorney Nitsana Darshan-Leitner has spent the past decade filing lawsuits for the victims of terror attacks against the governments, banks and corporations that enabled or financed the violence. As a result of her efforts, more than $200 million has been collected for terror victims and their families (including out of court settlements), and some $600 million in assets has been frozen.

Darshan-Leitner has also used the courts to fight against what she considers to be unfair lawsuits against Israeli military commanders. In one notable case, she stopped a Spanish lawsuit against Israel’s Chief of Staff Dan Halutz over a bombing raid in Gazoo by filing a similar suit against Javier Solana, a top Spanish politician who had overseen NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure....
’s bombing of Kosovo. Spain changed the law.

Last year, she won an unprecedented $655 million verdict against the Paleostinian Authority and PLO on behalf of 11 American families whose loved ones had been killed or injured in attacks in Israel. That decision was overturned by the US Court of Appeal, but Darshan-Leitner says she is not deterred.

Darshan-Leitner and Shurat Hadin, the non-profit law center she heads, are self-funding and do not receive backing from any government, including that of Israel. Sometimes she can be more effective even than the Israeli army: In 2011, she prevented a Gazoo-bound activists’ flotilla from leaving Greece after challenging the seaworthiness of the vessels in a local court.

Now she has discovered that Leb-based terrorist group Hezbollah is using Western Union to channel funds, and Iran is planning to use Boeing aircraft to deliver missiles to Syria. She plans to sue them both.

"Hezbollah is launching a fundraising campaign and using Western Union to accept the donations, so one of the moves that we are planning is to go after Western Union," says Darshan-Leitner. "In addition, we learned that Boeing not only signed a horrible deal with Iran providing them with 80 aircraft with a special waiver for the sanctions, Iran actually is using these aircraft to deliver missiles into Syria and let Hezbollah drive them to South Leb to shoot them over Israel.

"We are suing Boeing now to stop the deal, and we are launching a campaign to put pressure on the administration not to let Boeing continue," she says.

Darshan-Leitner is also suing Facebook, Twitter and other social media giants for their alleged role in "facilitating" terror activity.

"Facebook, Twitter and Google provide material support in the form of social media network services to Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,, to ISIS. This is unacceptable. It’s also a violation of American law. So we’ve filed lawsuits against them as well," she says.
Make them live up to their own rules, said Alinsky.

The Grand Turk
What is freedom good for?
[Hurriyet Daily News] In The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, freedom of thought should be explained for its practical benefits rather than for its high philosophical values, because in our society the political tradition that regards "thought" as a "tool" rather than an individual value is very strong.

Whoever is in power typically wants obedience rather than thought. In the past, the Kemalist government of the single-party era banned the magazine "Kadro" and the newspaper "Akin," which featured leftist or liberal interpretations of Kemalism.

Unfortunately the same tendency to ban remains dominant today, despite the fact that the horizons of freedom have grown unusually wide over the past three quarters of a century.

It is not possible to understand the arrest of journalists from dailies Cumhuriyet and Sözcu, or the fact that they have been in jail for months. I have worked alongside some of those enjugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
, such as Kadri Gursel and Murat Sabuncu.

Other colleagues were professional writers and simply expressed their opinion in media outlets of the Gulen movement, back when they were legal. Several government spokespeople were also frequently seen in these publications. Names such as Ahmet and Mehmet Altan, Nazli Ilicak, Sahin Alpay, Ali Bulac and Mumtazer Turköne are today in prison.

Because they expressed oppositional opinions in their articles, prosecutors have attributed to them the "intention" of preparing the groundwork for the coup attempt or assisting the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ).

Hurriyet columnist Sedat Ergin has written about the concept "read the mind, arrest the journalist." In the future, when the history of this era is written, that would be a good name for this period.

Could it be possible to demand life sentences after gathering articles and reports that are disliked by political powers and then "reading the mind" of the journalist, attributing charges such as "assisting an illegal organization, supporting the coup"?

In several Constitutional Court rulings, it is stated that files containing articles and reports cannot be the basis of charges of "membership of a terror network," "espionage" or "assisting in a coup." These crimes require other concrete evidence.

What’s more, according to the European Court of Human Rights’ (ECHR) judgment in the previous cases of journalists Nedim Sener and Ahmet Sik, the arrest of a journalist - regardless of the content of their reports or articles - is a violation of freedom of expression and freedom of the press.

In recent years, such violations have been steadily increasing in Turkey. But why is press freedom so important? Should journalists have special privileges?

The philosophical principle frequently mentioned by the ECHR and the Constitutional Court is that freedom of expression "constitutes one of the essential foundations of a democratic society, one of the basic conditions for its progress and for each individual’s self-fulfillment."

Let’s ask our consciences whether we want Turkey to be a country with unique individuals, or a country where people have become a herd.

Academic freedom, the number of scientific publications in citation indexes, technology, welfare, and national power all depend on this. Freedom of the press is thus not a privilege; it is a sign of development.

So freedom of the media is a tool for the public to form a healthy opinion.

But of course, in today’s Turkey nobody is arrested because of their journalism. They are all terrorists! In Egypt, journalists are arrested with similar justifications.

The standard we should strive for is the definition of freedom in universal law. We have been searching for it since the 19th century.

#1  Let’s ask our consciences whether we want Turkey to be a country with unique individuals, or a country where people have become a herd.

This is the existential question for the US. The progressives/democrats/left would say (if you could get an honest answer) that they would prefer a herd where they are the shepherds and set the rules. They are "more equal".

Chemical engineering student and his brother held over the Manchester terror attack
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] A chemical engineering student and his brother were being held over the Manchester terror attack last night as Amber Rudd admitted that members of the bomber’s network could still be at large.

University students Mohamed and Yahya Werfalli were arrested in the early hours of Saturday - hours before Theresa May lowered the UK’s terror threat level from critical to severe.

The brothers, who like other suspects are British born but of Libyan heritage, are believed to move in the same friendship circles as the Manchester bomber Salman Abedi, also 22. Yahya is listed on Facebook as a friend of the bomber’s brother, Hashim, 20.

Yesterday, armed police raided a home in the Moss Side area of Manchester after a controlled explosion, while two other men, 25 and 19, were arrested later in the day.

Early on Monday morning, Sussex Police announced that a 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack, making him the 16th arrest.

Greater Manchester Police also confirmed searches were conducted overnight at addresses in Chester, Cheshire and Whalley Range, in south Manchester, as part of the ongoing investigation.

  • Force are warning people to contact them immediately if they see the luggage

  • Terror unit detective said: 'The public should not approach the case if they see it'

  • Zuhair Nassrat, 19, one of three brothers, was arrested after police searched his family home in Gorton, south Manchester

  • He was one of two arrested on Sunday evening and Monday morning, along with a 23-year-old man in West Sussex

  • Police also searched a house in Chester, where Zuhir Nassrat is a student

  • He was removed from his Libyan family’s home in Gorton in handcuffs
Neighbours said the elder Nassrat sons, Abdul and Loqman, travelled to Libya with their father, said to be a former diplomat, to fight in the overthrow of Colonel Gaddaffi in 2011. ‘They used to post pictures and videos of themselves holding AK47s and fighting on Instagram. They were showing off about it,’ one neighbour who went to school with the boys said.

'The Libyan community in Manchester don’t believe in any way that he was by himself, he had not got the capability. He is not smart enough.'
'The eldest son [Abdul] had pictures of injuries on his back from fighting and came back to Gorton to get treated and get the fragments removed on the NHS,’ a neighbour added. Several neighbours said Abdul, 24, travelled to Turkey three years ago to train as a pilot but never returned.

The rest of the family, including Zuhair, temporarily returned to Libya and let out their home to tenants.

Pictures on social media showed Abdul posing with Abedi – and Zuhair with the bomber’s brother Hashim, 20, who is in custody in Libya on suspicion of being part of the same jihadi cell.

Loqman Nassrat, 22, who lives in Chester and also attends the city’s university, confirmed he knew Salman Abedi when he was ‘younger’. He said: ‘The Libyan community in Manchester don’t believe in any way that he was by himself, he had not got the capability. He is not smart enough.'

'Trainee Libyan pilot', 23, is 16th suspect arrested in connection with Manchester concert bombing

[DailyMail]
  • Man from Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, is 16th person to be arrested in connection with Monday's attack

  • The 23-year-old has been named locally as Alaedeen Zakry, a 'commercial pilot' who lives in West Sussex
Zakry, who is also known as Alaedeen Sicri, describes himself as a 'commercial pilot and digital marketer', running an online market place for Libyans from his home in West Sussex. He is is understood to have come to Britain from Libya's capital Tripoli when he was 18.

Houses in Manchester and Chester were also searched overnight by counter-terrorism units while officers are also searching a landfill site in Pilsworth, near Bury.

Local councillor Kevin Boram said he was 'shocked' at the arrest in the small seaside town of Shoreham. He said he believed the man was arrested in a flat above a parade of shops in the town centre but did not witness it himself.

'We're a very close-knit community. I was very surprised. If anything we were pulled closer together by the Shoreham air crash. I'm a bit shocked that we've been associated with Manchester. It's a great shame for our community.'

But the area has previously been linked to terror. The Deghayes family have lost three sons who died after they went to fight in Syria, while a fourth son has also travelled there to fight against Bashar Assad's government.

The Deghayes brothers are the nephews of Omar Deghayes, who was held by the United States as an enemy combatant at Guantanamo Bay detention camp between 2002 and 2007 after he was arrested in Pakistan.

Kulbhushan Jadhav continues to provide 'crucial intelligence', says FO spokesperson
[DAWN] Indian spy Commander Kulbhushan Jadhav continues to provide crucial intelligence with regard to recent terrorist attacks in Pakistain, Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Nafees Zakaria told DawnNews on Monday.

Jadhav's death sentence was stayed by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in Hague on May 18, following proceedings in which Pak and Indian lawyers argued over the legitimacy of the death sentence awarded to Jadhav by a Pak military court.

Insisting that Pakistain held enough evidence to prove that Jadhav was a spy, Attorney General of Pakistain Ashtar Ausaf during an exclusive interview to DawnNews said that Pakistain has information on Jadhav that could not be disclosed due to the security reasons.

He said, "The evidence would only be presented before the ICJ once it resumes the hearing."

He said the ICJ's procedural order of May 18 was neither Pakistain's defeat nor India's success and emphasised that when the case re-starts, "Pakistain would be on solid ground to win".

Iraq
8 die in suicide bombing attack in Baghdad

BAGHDAD: A suicide bomber detonated an explosives-rigged vehicle at a popular Baghdad ice cream shop, killing at least eight people, security officials said on Tuesday.

The overnight attack in the Karrada district in central Baghdad also wounded at least 30 people, officials said.

The Daesh group-linked Amaq propaganda agency said the suicide bomber targeted a “gathering of Shiites.”

IS considers members of Iraq’s Shiite Muslim majority to be heretics and frequently carries out attacks against them.

The bomber struck just days after the start of the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, during which Iraqis often stay out late shopping or socialising after breaking their daily fast.

Images and footage posted on social media showed the devastating impact of the blast, which ripped through the crowded area around Al-Faqma ice cream shop, scattering rubble across the street.

One photo showed cups of ice cream scattered on the blood-stained ground following the attack.

Brett McGurk, the envoy to the US-led anti-IS coalition, condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with Iraq.

“ISIS terrorists tonight in Baghdad target children & families enjoying time together at an ice cream shop. We stand w/Iraq against this evil,” McGurk said on Twitter, using an alternate acronym for IS.

IS overran large areas north and west of Baghdad in 2014, but Iraqi forces backed by US-led air strikes have since regained much of the territory they lost and are now fighting to retake the last jihadist-held areas in second city Mosul.

But defeats on the battlefield have not prevented IS from carrying out deadly attacks targeting civilians, including a bombing in the Karrada area last year that killed more than 300 people.

In shadow of Mosul fight, Iran establishes Nineveh foothold
[AlAhram] While Iraq's conventional military has been slowly clearing the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group from inside djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
's complex urban terrain, Iraq's Iran-backed Shiite paramilitary forces have been working their way through less glamorous territory: vast deserts west and south of the city that run along and across Iraq's border with Syria.

The territory, dotted with small villages and dusty roads, is home to key supply lines into neighboring Syria and connecting Iraq's north to the capital Baghdad. Control of the Iraqi-Syrian border would be a key strategic prize for the mostly Shiite paramilitary forces and their backer Iran, who also supports the government of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Suppressor of the Damascenes...
One division of the Iraqi government-sanctioned paramilitary group known as the Popular Mobilization Forces first reached Iraq's border with Syria on Monday after securing a string of small villages west of Mosul and south of Sinjar, according to Ahmed al-Asadi, the group's front man.

"This will be the first step to the liberation of the entire border," he said.

The PMF began Monday's operation by pushing IS holy warriors out of the center of the town of Baaj, some 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the Syrian border. Once the town was retaken a unit was dispatched to secure the village of Um Jrais along the border.

"This victory will also be an important incentive for the Syrian Arab Army to secure the entire border from the Syrian side," al-Asadi said, referring the Assad's government forces.

As the PMF secure more of the border region, they plan to "erect a dirt barricade and dig a trench," said Sheikh Sami al-Masoudi, a paramilitary group leader.

Iraq's border with Syria has long been a haven for smugglers and murderous Moslem activity.

The Nineveh foothold would give the paramilitary forces considerable leverage politically and militarily in Iraq after the fight against IS is concluded, according to Maria Fantappie, the senior Iraq researcher for the International Crisis Group, a non-governmental research firm.

The Iranians have been prioritizing something that the U.S. has overlooked: control over strategic roads, rather than control of the Sunni communities.
"The Iranians have been prioritizing something that the U.S. has overlooked: control over strategic roads, rather than control of the Sunni communities,"

Fantappie said explaining that the U.S.-led coalition's fight against IS has largely focused on retaking cities while the PMF have instead focused on transit and supply lines.

Control of roads and borders also allows the paramilitary forces to divide Iraq's Sunni community geographically and politically, Fantappie said.

"They have been trying to bisect Iraq and prevent a unified Sunni block from emerging," she said.

In Syria, Assad's forces and their allies have also been on the offensive, moving toward the Iraqi and Jordanian border, but are still far from reaching it. U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, IS holy warriors and Syrian rebels are also fighting for territory in an increasingly messy battle space.

After securing the Iraqi side of the border with Syria, Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces are ready to move inside Syrian territories to assist Assad, said Hashim al-Mousawi, a leader with the powerful al-Nujaba militia that falls under the PMF umbrella. Before the PMF was sanctioned by the Iraqi government al-Nujaba fighters openly fought inside Syria, helping prop up the Assad regime during the early days of the uprising against his government.

But, now al-Mousawi said crossing into Syria to fight would require the approval of the Iraqi government in Baghdad

1 dead in ISIS artillery attack in Salahuddin

Shirqat (IraqiNews.com) A working child was killed and three other people were wounded on Monday when an Islamic State-guided drone bombarded an area north of Salahuddin, a security source told Sputnik agency.

The missiles landed on a vegetables market in the city of Shirqat on Monday morning.

One day earlier, Two parents and their three children also died when missiles fired by the extremist group landed on their house in the sma city.

Though Shirqat was fully recaptured by Iraqi security forces last year, it has sustained occasional attacks on civilians and security troops. It is believed IS has been launching the attacks there setting off from Hawija, its stronghold in neighboring Kirkuk.

Government and tribal forces have launched occasional operations over the past few months to clear border regions between Salahuddin and adjacent provinces, killing dozens of militants. IS fighters have also responded with occasional attacks targeting troops, leaving several deaths.

Officials from towns still held by IS since 2014 have pressed the Iraqi government to hasten with security operations to retake those regions, but the Iraqi government is giving most of its attention to its battle in Mosul, Islamic State’s largest stronghold in Iraq.

Violence and armed conflicts claimed the lives of 317 Iraqis and caused injuries to 403 others during the month of April, according to a monthly United Nations count.

ISIS burning records in Baaj

Baaj (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants have started burning their archives at an area west of Mosul and near the borders with Syria as pro-government paramilitary troops gain more ground.

Jabbar al-Maamouri, a senior leader at al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units), told Alsumaria News that IS, starting Monday morning, began to burn tons of its archives at its main offices, including the hisbah (vigilantism) and security, near residential areas in Baaj.

Maamouri said the step comes to cover “crimes” committed by the group and to conceal the identity of its sympathizers, denoting what he described as a “steep collapses” within its ranks.

Maamouri predicted the battles against IS in Baaj to conclude soon with many group leaders reportedly fleeing the region.

PMUs, an alliance of more than 60 mostly Shia militias, are recognized by the government as a national force under the Prime Minister’s command. They have been actively engaged in the campaign against Islamic State militants in Nineveh’s western regions.

Al-Hashd has recaptured several villages since it launched an operation earlier this month to clear Baaj Qairawan and neighboring from IS. A top leader said last week Qairawan was totally liberated. Al-Hashd had said the regions became isolated from Mosul and from IS havens in Syria.

The campaign in Baaj runs simultaneously with government troops operations in Mosul, Islamic State’s largest stronghold in Iraq. Security forces are currently invading the last districts held by IS in western Mosul, targeting the strategic Old City where IS first declared the inception of its proclaimed “caliphate”.

Mosul Offensive News

Kops, ISIS snipers die in fighting in west Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Police personnel, Islamic State militants and snipers were killed during battles ongoing in western Mosul districts, Federal Police sources have said.

“Federal Police troops blew up four booby-trapped vehicles before targeting the troops advancing through al-Shifa region, in Mosul’s Old City,” Colonel Khodeir Saleh told BasNews on Monday.

“Two foreign IS snipers were killed during battles in the same region,” he said, adding eight other members were also killed.

Police troops, according to Saleh, are now in control of wide parts in al-Shifa, where slow advances are made due to the high density of population.

Meanwhile, First Lieutenant Ahmed Saleh, of Nineveh police, said one personnel was killed, three others were wounded in a booby-trapped car explosion that targeted troops on al-Sihha al-Thaniya district late on Sunday, DPA reported.

Abdul-Ghani al-Assadi, commander of the army’s elite Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) expected liberation of the district within the coming few days. He said that in case the district was freed, the militants will be besieged in the Old City as all exits will be closed.

Regarding number of IS members killed al-Sihha district, Assadi said the troops killed 58 members on Sunday, predicting a higher number as the troops resume their advance.

The eastern side of Mosul was liberated in January after three months of battles. Another major offensive was launched in February to liberate the western side of the city.

14 ISIS Bad Guys smoked in Mosul's old city

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Fourteen Islamic State militants were killed and motorbikes were destroyed in Mosul’s Old City, the Federal Police declared on Monday.

In a statement, Lt.Gen.Shaker Jawdat said, “Federal Police troops in al-Zanjili district, north of the Old City, are deploying addition troops toward al-Sihha district in order to gain control on all of the area, amid missile shelling.”

“The selling targets IS defenses ahead of advancing,” he said adding that “The drone shelling left 14 militants killed and nine motorbikes in the narrow alleys of the Old City, destroyed.”

The Old City is home of the ancient Grand Nuri Mosque, from which the group’s Supreme Leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi gave a famous sermon in 2014 declaring the establishment of the ‘caliphate’

Previously in May, the Joint Operations Command said more than 16,000 IS fighters were killed since start of Mosul operations in October.

Iraqi commanders say they at least 90 percent of territories in western Mosul is under Iraqi troops control, predicting to retake the city before the end of May. Only two districts besides the Old City are under IS control.

Iraqi forces have been sweeping through northwestern neighborhoods over the past few weeks in a way to invade the strategic Old City, after finding it hard to invade from the south.

The eastern side of Mosul was retaken in January after three months of battles. Another major offensive was launched in February to recapture the western flank of the city.

Iraqi forces continue offensive in Mosul

Iraqi forces pressed ahead on Monday with a broad operation in Mosul, liberating more towns from ISIL Takfiri terrorists.

Popular Mobilization Forces, who are also known as Hashd Shaabi, said they have liberated Taro town northwest of Qahtaniyah which lies near Sinjar on the Iraqi-Syrian border.

The media department in the volunteer forces said Taro was liberated during a qualitative operation on Monday.

Meanwhile, AFP news agency quoted Joint Operations Command spokesman Yahya Rasool as saying that Iraqi forces entered three towns north of Mosul’s Old City.

“Our units are continuing to advance… and entered Al-Saha al-Oula and Al-Zinjili and Al-Shifaa neighborhoods and the Republican Hospital,” said Rasool.

ISIL was using “explosives-rigged vehicles and snipers and suicide bombers” to target Iraqi forces, he told AFP.

More than seven months into the massive operation to retake Mosul, Iraqi forces have recaptured the city’s east and large parts of its western side, but terrorists were still putting up resistance in the Old City.

Bangladesh
Shafi dumbfounded by reinstallation of Lady Justice
[Dhaka Tribune] Terming the re-installation of the statue of Lady Justice a matter of grave concern and disappointment, Hefajat-e-Islam
...a madrassa-based false nose and mustache of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, formed in 2010 to protest against secular education. In 2011 demonstrated violentyly against women's rights and in 2013 held large rallies demanding capital punishment of Shahbag Square protesters and banning women working outside the home...
chief Shah Ahmed Shafi has said they along with the masses were taken aback by the move.

"Despite my long illness, I became happy and expressed gratitude when the statue of the Greek goddess was removed [from the Supreme Court premises]. However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
only two days after we have now regrettably come to know that the idol was reinstalled in front of the Supreme Court’s annex building. We are flabbergasted by the re-erection of it," the chief of the radical Islamist platform said in a press statement on Sunday.

He also said: "Earlier, we placed our demand for removing the idol forever. But, it was reinstalled against the people’s will.

"The re-installation has made it sufficiently clear that the government is not paying attention to our calls and peaceful movement. Installing the idol or cloaking it in black during the time of prayers was never an issue. In fact, the issue was whether it will exist or not, and there was no middle way."

Shafi added: "We have repeatedly said that justice is a fundamental concept in Islam. Even, establishing justice in the society was a goal of our Liberation War in 1971. So, when we borrow any symbol of justice from the Greek tradition, it means that we have no concept of justice in our history, tradition and religion."

He urged the government to remove the statue for good, saying: "Do not play with our religious beliefs, national spirit and heritage. Do not push the country towards the curse of Allah through such anti-Islamic activities."

Meanwhile,
...back at the precinct house, Sergeant Maloney wasn't buying it. It was just too pat. The whole thing smelled phony, kind of like a dead mackeral but without the scales...
describing the reinstallation as a hide and seek game of the government, Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
Secretary General Shafiqur Rahman in a separate press statement said they were enraged by the move. He also demanded the statute be permanently removed from the court area.

Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s Ameer and Charmonai Pir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim said the reinstallation slandered Islam as a religion and the Moslems as a population.

Alleging that the government is showing disregard for feelings of the Moslems, who constitute 92% of the country’s total population, he said: "In the next general election, people will boycott the ruling party as it is siding with idols."

Arabia
Millions in Counterfeit Currency Run by Coup Militias
Reserve banking, Yemeni style...
Aden – Coup militias in Yemen have staged multiple attempts for running and laundering millions of counterfeit Yemeni Riyals, as well as illegal arms, a military source said.

The trafficking largely was directed towards Sa’ada, where the Houthi insurgency leader Abdul-Malik Badreddin al-Houthi is based. It also comes a few days after government forces seized hundreds of millions of counterfeit cash in the Jawf province, northeast the country.

Jawf’s National Army and Popular Resistance Spokesman Abdullah al-Ashraf told Asharq Al-Awsat that anti-government militias try, on almost daily basis, to smuggle large sums of counterfeit money, illegal arms and drugs.

He said most of the smuggling routes go through Jawf’s desert region, passing through Al Mahrah Governorate, neighboring the Sultanate of Oman and end at the Sa’ada desert area, the main stronghold Houthis gunmen.

Pro-government tribesmen had seized large amounts of counterfeit banknotes stamped with the value of 5,000 riyals (a bill not circulated or approved by the Central Bank of Yemen) in barren areas near Al Hobil Arouq, located 70 kilometers north of Al-Khanjar in Jawf.

The spokesman pointed out that the seized notes amount to hundreds of millions of riyals.

Resorting to counterfeit currency indicates the severity of the economic collapse suffered, and reflects a stifling crisis that has proved the coup’s inability to provide realistic solutions to people’s problems living under their territory.

Trying to introduce a para-official new currency would lead to serious economic fallout, threatening the value of the national currency, political and youth activist Ayban Mohammed told Asharq Al-Awsat.

“Steps taken by coup leadership, whether it is welfare vouchers or the introduction of a new currency highlight the true disarray and a growing state of public discontent in coup-held areas.”

Already suffering grievously under nearly two years of civil war, many thousands of Yemeni state workers now face destitution as their salaries have gone largely unpaid for months.

It is unclear how many of the 250,000 employees registered nationwide before the Houthis seized Sana’a in 2014 have received incomplete salaries – as a large proportion in government-held areas have been paid.

In 2014, Iran-aligned Houthis allied with armed loyalists backing ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh stormed the country’s capital, driving the internationally recognized government led by Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi out. Coup militias effectively hijacked Sana’a-based public institutions which pushed the constitutionally elected government to relocate to Aden.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran reinforcing troops in Syria
London – Following statements by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani on Iran’s readiness to double its military presence in Syria, Russian Ambassador to Tehran Levan Dzhagaryan said on Sunday that the Iranian official’s visit to Moscow comes in the context of “more Iranian-Russian military coordination in Syria.”

Shamkhani revealed Iran’s readiness to dispatch more military forces to Syria as a response to US President Donald Trump’s recent statements on Iran’s role in Syria, in shaking stability and in supporting terrorism.

He affirmed that Tehran is serious in proceeding in its role in the Syrian crisis and that his country is ready to double its efforts through sending more military forces “to maintain security in the region”.

Meanwhile, Dzhagaryan said that Washington objects to the Iranian presence at the Astana negotiations and considers its role as negative in Syria.

“Russia does not agree with the US on the Iranian role – which it sees as positive in reaching a resolution for the Syrian crisis. Finding a solution is impossible without Iran,” he added.

The ambassador pointed out that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov notified international parties that Moscow opposes excluding Iran from the Syrian negotiations and he affirmed its support of Iran’s participation in the current and future negotiations on Syria.

He denied any US-Russian agreement on Kurdish regions in Syria, saying that Russia acknowledges the unity of the Syrian territory and rejects dividing it.

“Syria should be one country,” he added.

Furthermore, Dzhagaryan stressed the Turkish role in Syrian negotiations, adding that the opposition that boycotted the Astana negotiations is a minority. He also saw that the US, Russia, Turkey and Iran are active players in Syrian negotiations.

Paris black feminist festival 'prohibited' to whites sparks outrage
I wonder if Rachel Dolezal would qualify for entry?
[France24] PARIS (AFP) - Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo on Sunday called for a black feminist festival in the French capital to be banned, saying it was "prohibited to white people."

The first edition of the Nyansapo Festival, due to run from July 28 to 30 at a cultural centre in Paris, bills itself as "an event rooted in blackfeminism, activism, and on (a) European scale."

LICRA -- the International League against Racism and Antisemitism -- said "Rosa Parks would be turning in her grave," a reference to the American civil rights icon.

Wallerand de Saint-Just, the regional head of Marine Le Pen's National Front party, had challenged Hidalgo on Friday to explain how the city was putting on an event "promoting a concept that is blatantly racist and anti-republican."
How different from American left the French are!

PIA IT system 'malfunction' brings operations to a standstill
[DAWN] Pakistain International Airlines' (PIA) information technology system suffered a serious malfunction on Monday which has adversely affected the schedules of numerous flights.

Similar to the hacking troubles faced by British Airways over the past week, PIA's operations came to a standstill when their software failed around 9am on Monday.

The disturbance delayed numerous flights and prevented any further bookings from being made.

PIA officials said they cannot yet confirm what caused the disruption.

Meanwhile in the countryside of Daraa, Syrian regime forces shelled al-Naeem town, east of the city, using heavy weapons.

Yesterday, army aviation shelled the neighborhoods of Daraa al-Balad and the area of Gharz, east of Daraa, without leaving any casualties.

Cholera death toll increases in Yemen
100 percent preventable
GENEVA/DUBAI: The number of people who have died in a cholera epidemic affecting Yemen has risen to at least 471, according to World Health Organization (WHO) figures released on Monday.

But the latest WHO bulletin covering the period from April 27, said that there was a “significant decrease” in the daily average number of cases recorded in the week up to May 27 compared to the previous seven-day period.

The epidemic began in October and grew until December. It then dwindled but was never brought fully under control, and a new surge in cases began in April.

The WHO said on Monday that the average daily number of cases recorded between May 21 and 27 was 2,529 — down from 3,025 in the previous seven days.

The bulletin said that the total number of suspected cases stood at 51,832.

Caused by ingesting bacteria from water or food contaminated with feces, cholera usually manifests itself with sudden acute diarrhea and can kill within hours, although three-quarters of infected people show no symptoms.

The short incubation period means outbreaks can spread with speed, especially in places without safe water and proper sanitation, according to the WHO.

Britain
Cop Calls in Reinforcements, Helicopter After ‘Taking Offense' at Song Mocking Bin Laden at Party
[HeatStreet] A British police officer called for reinforcements, including a helicopter, after getting offended by a parody song mocking the death of terrorist Osama bin Laden being played at a garden party.

Initially, only one police officer was sent to the street around 10 p.m. to respond to a neighbor's complaint about the loud music and alleged anti-Islamic shouting at the garden party, Cambridge News reported.

But after she overheard the song mocking former Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden at the party, the policewoman hit the "panic button" on her body-mounted camera. In response to the call for support, the local police sent another 10 officers and a police helicopter.

The party-goers denied shouting "anti-Islamic abuse" and said the policewoman "took offense" at the parody song being played, prompting her to call up the unnecessary reinforcements.

One party attendee, Mark Donovan, spoke with the news outlet following the incident, saying: "We were having a summer's evening in my neighbor's garden as we don't have one. We had our karaoke machine on playing music through our phones from YouTube, which are all approved songs.

"It was about 10 p.m. and the music may have been a little loud, but it was before 11 p.m. Someone must have made a complaint, and a police officer attended our address, at which time a song from YouTube called ‘the Bin Laden Song' came on.

"This police officer said she took offense at the song and pressed her panic button on her body cam and that's when about 10 police turned up and the police helicopter.

"They are now investigating it as a racist crime. It is ridiculous."

Police have not made any arrests but have confiscated a phone and a karaoke machine. An investigation is ongoing.

Donovan continued: "This is music which is well known which was put on YouTube when Bin Laden was killed by the British and American army. In the music there is no reference to color, race or religion.

"The police then threatened to arrest everyone if we didn't hand over our karaoke machine and mobile phone.

"At no point were we asked to turn it down or off, and not one member of the public complained about what we were playing, only the level of the volume. If we had been asked to turn it down, we would have.

"In fact, I turned it off on seeing the police officer.

"Our son is black, my brother and sister are black, my brother is in the American army.

"It just seems a bit extreme to have 10 police officers and helicopter attend over a song which is approved by YouTube which we never actually put on. It came on by the shuffle list, and now being investigated as a racial offense, the only person who took offense was the female police officer, and it's not even a racist song.

"Is this not a waste of police resources and public money when no crime was reported?"

The local police spokesperson confirmed to the paper that there's an ongoing investigation on basis of "incitement of racial hatred."
I guess we now know where the British outrage about the Manchester incident is going?

#5  The party-goers denied shouting “anti-Islamic abuse” and said the policewoman “took offense” at the parody song being played, prompting her to call up the unnecessary reinforcements. A bit of a overkill on calling out the forces. Does this policewoman who was "triggered" happen to be of the Islamic faith? Hey, it was a private party at a nice home. At most they might have violated a noise ordinance.

#8  So rather than punishing the officer for inappropriately pressing the oh shit button, scrambling the quick reaction force and putting those officers' lives and those in their path in danger, they blame the party goers and steal private property, presumably for face-saving and justification for the x money and reason to scramble. Officer no-name indeed.

Oh, and the song...it is lewd and shallow and modern pop but it is neither mocking nor racist.
Posted by: swksvolFF || 05/30/2017 10:39 Comments || Top||

#9  Not even lewd, actually. But accurate, come to think of it. The Taliban now skulk around attacking the people who rule in their place, and Obama son of Laden the Yemeni spent the rest of his life in the squalor of self-imposed house arrest with several competing wives and all their small children.

But it's Cambridge, so I assume they have all the problems of an elite college town.
