Arabia
Official: Drone kills 4 Qaida Suspects in Yemen
[AnNahar] A Saudi and a Kuwaiti are among four suspected al-Qaeda members killed by an American drone strike in southeastern Yemen, a local official said on Friday.

The dawn strike targeted their car as it left the base of the 27th Mechanized Brigade in the Hadramawt lovely provincial capital Mukalla, the official told Agence La Belle France Presse.

Fighters from the Sunni krazed killer group seized the camp from forces loyal to President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi in April, consolidating their grip on Mukalla. They have exploited months of fighting between Hadi loyalists and Iran-backed Shiite Houthis to consolidate their grip on Yemen's southeast.

The official identified the victims as Shuaib al-Maliki of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the Kuwaiti Abdul Aziz al-Otaibi, along with two Yemenis.

Their deaths bring to 13 the number of suspected al-Qaeda snuffies killed by similar strikes in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
over the past 10 days, and follows the death of the second-in-command of al-Qaeda's global network. The group confirmed on June 16 the killing by an American drone strike of Nasir al-Wuhayshi, who headed al-Qaeda's Yemen branch.

Washington regards that branch, known as al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000...
(AQAP), as its most dangerous and has kept up a drone war despite the pullout of US troops from Yemen in March as the country's war worsened.

The U.S. still has drones and other aircraft at bases in Saudi Arabia and Djibouti.

Since the war in Yemen worsened in March and a Saudi-led coalition began bombing the Shiite Houthis, jihadists from the Islamic State

Sunni krazed killer group have also taken advantage of the chaos. They have claimed a series of attacks including a boom-mobile in Yemen's capital Sanaa which killed at least 28 people on Monday.

Molotov cocktails, ISIS grafitti in East Jerusalem
[Ynet] Paleostinians hurling Molotov cocktails at retreating police as graffiti of ISIS flag found in East Jerusalem on third Friday of Ramadan.

Security cameras captured a group of Paleostinians Thursday, throwing Molotov cocktails at two police squads in Ma'ale ha-Zeitim in East Jerusalem while the neighborhood of Beit Hanina also displayed a disturbing sign supportive of violence - graffiti of the flag championed by ISIS.

The video appears to show police temporarily retreating behind their vehicles without offering any response to the Paleostinian attackers. A member of the local neighborhood watch, Joshua Vander, told Ynet such incidents have become every-day occurrences and Thursday wasn't the first time he observed what he called a "weak" response by authorities.

According to Vander, security representatives told him that procedures during such incidents are more difficult during the month of Ramadan and that police are hesitant to respond with crowd control measures without an explicit order form their superiors.

The film was capture by a camera installed by a new organization called "Anti Terror T.V." who's goal is to document otherwise unseen or unverifiable security incidents. Several such cameras were recently placed in key points in East Jerusalem.

Police in Jerusalem responded to the incident saying that more than 400 had been jugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
for similar disturbances so far in 2015 including the throwing of rocks and Molotov cocktails.

Man accused in Boko Haram abduction of Chibok girls arrested
[AyPee] Nigerian troops have enjugged
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
a businessman accused of "participating actively" in Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
's mass abduction of nearly 300 schoolgirls from the northeastern town of Chibok last year, Nigeria's Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

Spokesman Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade said Babuji Ya'ari headed a "terrorists' intelligence cell" for the Islamic Lions of Islam while masquerading as a member of the self-defense Youth Vigilante Group. That confirms suspicions that the vigilantes have been infiltrated by Boko Haram. Soldiers have told the AP that some of their comrades also belong to Nigeria's homegrown Islamic Lion of Islam group.

"The arrest of the businessman ... has also yielded some vital information and facilitated the arrest of other members of the terrorists' intelligence cell who are women," Olukolade said in a statement Tuesday night. He did not say when the arrests were made or how many people were arrested.

He alleged that Ya'ari has since 2011 coordinated several deadly attacks on the northeastern city of Maiduguri, the birthplace of Boko Haram, and spearheaded the May 2014 liquidation of the emir of Gwoza, a religious and traditional ruler who was targeted for speaking out against Boko Haram's extremism.

One arrested woman, Hafsat Bako, confessed to coordinating the payroll for operatives paid a minimum of 10,000 naira (about $50) a job, the defense ministry statement said.

Boko Haram was responsible for the April 2014 kidnapping of 273 girls from a boarding school in Chibok. Dozens escaped but 219 schoolgirls remain missing. The mass abduction sparked international outrage and demands for the girls' release under the Twitter hashtag #BringBackOurGirls.
About as utterly useless an effort as has ever been done, rivalling the inane internet petition in 200 or 2001 demanding the Taliban be nicer to Afghan women.

Cuba's Environmental Concerns Grow With Prospect of U.S. Presence
[NYT] HAVANA -- Like many of his countrymen, Jorge Angulo hopes the United States will lift the decades-old economic embargo against Cuba.

But Dr. Angulo, a senior marine scientist at the University of Havana, is also worried about the effects that a flood of American tourists and American dollars might have on this country's pristine coral reefs, mangrove forests, national parks and organic farms -- environmental assets that are a source of pride here.

"Like anywhere else, money talks," Dr. Angulo said. "That might be dangerous, because if we go too much on that side, we lose what we have today."

As relations between the United States and Cuba have warmed -- the countries announced on Wednesday that their embassies in Havana and Washington would reopen by July 20 for the first time in more than 50 years -- and as the renewal of trade seems more of a possibility, the Cuban government faces pivotal choices.

President Obama and Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. on Wednesday after announcing plans to reopen embassies in Havana and Washington.

Poles outside the American interests section building in Havana once flew black flags that hid a Times Square-style ticker installed by President George W. Bush.

U.S. Outpost in Cuba to Step Out of the ShadowsJAN. 20, 2015

The country is in desperate need of the economic benefits that a lifting of the embargo would almost certainly bring. But the ban, combined with Cuba's brand of controlled socialism, has also limited development and tourism that in other countries, including many of Cuba's Caribbean neighbors, have eroded beaches, destroyed forests, polluted rivers, damaged coral reefs and wreaked other forms of environmental havoc.
Communism really is good for the environment.

Iraq
Shiite militias hit back at ISIS east of Fallujah
[Rudaw] More than 15 Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
fighters were killed and seven of the group's military vehicles were destroyed Thursday by Shiite militias fighting for the Iraqi government in Anbar province, a commander with Iraqi forces told Rudaw.

Colonel Marzi Mahmud Jumaili, a commander with the Hashd al-Shaabi, or Popular Mobilization Units, said in a statement released Thursday that the Shiite fighters managed to launch a counterattack on the ISIS faceless myrmidons east of the city of Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
killing the 15 faceless myrmidons and injuring 25 others.

Jumaili claimed the Hashd al-Shaabi, as the Shiite militias are known, seized seven vehicles from ISIS and four where rigged with explosives.

In January 2014, ISIS faceless myrmidons swept into Fallujah and parts of Ramadi in Iraq's Anbar province, which Iraqi security forces soon abandoned.

Since then, Iraqi forces in corporation with the Hashd al-Shaabi and backed by US-led coalition Arclight airstrikes have fought to recapture areas from ISIS.

Government
The Hilldebeest's secret war
[Wash Times] In the course of my work, I am often asked by colleagues to review and explain documents and statutes. Recently, in conjunction with my colleagues Catherine Herridge and Pamela Browne, I read the transcripts of an interview Ms. Browne did with a man named Marc Turi, and Ms. Herridge asked me to review emails to and from State Department and congressional officials during the years when Hillary Clinton was the secretary of state.

What I saw has persuaded me beyond a reasonable doubt and to a moral certainty that Mrs. Clinton provided material assistance to terrorists and lied to Congress in a venue where the law required her to be truthful. Here is the backstory.

Mr. Turi is a lawfully licensed American arms dealer. In 2011, he applied to the Departments of State and Treasury for approvals to sell arms to the government of Qatar. Qatar is a small Middle Eastern country whose government is so entwined with the U.S. government that it almost always will do what American government officials ask of it.

In its efforts to keep arms from countries and groups that might harm Americans and American interests, Congress has authorized the Departments of State and Treasury to be arms gatekeepers. They can declare a country or group to be a terrorist organization, in which case selling or facilitating the sale of arms to it is a felony. They also can license dealers to sell.

Mr. Turi sold hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of arms to the government of Qatar, which then, at the request of American government officials, were sold, bartered or given to rebel groups in Libya and Syria. Some of the groups that received the arms were on the U.S. terror list. Thus, the same State and Treasury Departments that licensed the sales also prohibited them.

How could that be?

Fox News Legal Analyst Judge Napolitano linked then Sec. of State Clinton's dealings to arm Libyan rebels to the Iran Contra matter during the Reagan administration. It is alleged that these very arms may have been used in the Benghazi attack on 09/11. Parties involved in these dealings had links to known terrorist organizations, yet this fact was ignored by the Foggy Bottom.

Apparently the Judge hasn't spent much time in the Middle East. It's more like Quatar knowing how to play the balance-off-all-others game.

I did not post the Sultan Knish article. What you see below is a comment to the article. I think you will find the comments as well as the article quite interesting:

"I am firmly convinced after he leaves office he will formally announce his adoption of Islam (he doesn't need to convert since according to Sharia law he was born a Muslim by way of his father) and I believe it will be Shi'ite Islam that he will show a preference for, based on their seemingly better political organization, as exemplified by the Iranian regime."

The Myth of Muslim Radicalization
[Sultan Knish] The key element in Obama's strategy for fighting ISIS isn't the F-15E Strike Eagle, it's a Twitter account run by a Muslim Brotherhood sympathizer which claims to "Counter Violent Extremism" by presenting moderate Islamists like Al Qaeda as positive role models for the Islamic State's social media supporters.

So far 75% of planes flown on combat missions against ISIS return without engaging the enemy, but the culturally sensitive State Department Twitter account has racked up over 5,000 tweets and zero kills.

Cultural sensitivity hasn't exactly set Iraq on fire in fighting ISIS and deradicalization programs here start from the false premise that there is a wide gap between a moderate and extremist Islam. Smiling news anchors daily recite new stories about a teenager from Kentucky, Boston or Manchester getting "radicalized" and joining ISIS to the bafflement of his parents, mosque and community.
But how could we remove the word 'Radical' from the term of reference 'Radical Muslim?" What would remain? Semantics you see, do matter, even in denial. Progressives would argue that society must be "restructured" to accommodate them as is. Sort of like removing the sign from the poisoned well and simply hoping people will stop elsewhere for a drink.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Racing Through History
The return of the Confederacy was averted in the summer of 2015 when major retailers frantically scoured through their vast offerings to purge any images of a car from the Dukes of Hazzard. If not for their quick thinking, armies of men in gray might have come marching down the streets of New York and San Francisco to stop off for an Iced Mocha Frappucino ™ at a local Starbucks before restoring slavery.

...Romanticizing the South means a whipping from our cultural elite. Instead of romanticizing the culture that bought slaves, they romanticize the Middle Eastern and African cultures that sold them the slaves.

...It's a lot easier for Obama to get in his million dollar Cadillac with its 5-inch thick bulletproof windows, a ride Boss Hogg could only envy, and chase down a couple of good ole boys than it is to condemn a culture that committed genocide in our own time, not in 1099, and that keeps slaves today, not in 1815.

Even while the Duke boys were being chased through Georgia, Obama appeared at an Iftar dinner; an event at which Muslims emulate Mohammed, who had more slaves than Robert E. Lee. There are no slaves in Arlington House today, but in the heartlands of Islam, from Saudi mansions to ISIS dungeons, there are still slaves, laboring, beaten, bought, sold, raped and disposed of in Mohammed's name. Slavery does not exist under the Confederate flag eagerly being pulled down. It does exist under the black and green flags of Islam rising over mosques in Iraq, Saudi Arabia and America today.

In our incredibly tolerant culture, it has become politically incorrect to watch the General Lee jump a fence or a barn, but paying tribute to the culture that sent the slaves here and that still practices slavery is the culturally sensitive thing to do. In 2015, slavery is no longer freedom, but it certainly is tolerance.

And it's not just about Islam.

IMO, Tranzis are not for something (except power to themselves), they're against us.

#1  I'm being picky here but Robert E. Lee didn't own any slaves. His wife inherited her Father's slaves. One condition of Lee taking over management of Arlington was that if any slave came to Mars Lee and asked for his freedom Lee would grant it. They all knew that and it's interesting how many didn't ask for their freedom. The reasoning was that on the plantation they had food and shelter. It was hard for a free black to find work.

Cape Hospital vandals caught in the act
[IoL] Cape Town - Vandals and looters have taken advantage of lax security at the site of the abandoned GF Jooste Hospital between Manenberg and Gugulethu.

The Western Cape Department of Health closed down the hospital last year because it was due for major renovations. The then-health MEC Theuns Botha said the reconstruction would cost roughly R785 million. In 2010, the hospital received a R2m donation from the Oasis Crescent Fund Trust for the upgrade of its emergency ward.
Roughly $200k USD from the OCFT. Appears they might have been a bit hesitant, and rightly so.
Now, all that remains of the building are smashed windows, wrecked walls and demolished ceilings.

The Cape Argus visited the hospital on Wednesday and discovered that the building had been looted for scrap.

It's alleged the looters made off with their gains in broad daylight and were not stopped by private All 4 Security Solutions guards stationed at the site.

Pastor Lewellyn Adams, of the Manenberg community police forum, led the Cape Argus through the gutted medical institution that once served more than 1.6 million patients.

Adams said: "A month ago we saw these people running around with window frames and scrap metal.

"We did not know where they got it from. Then we realised they were stealing it from the hospital. Next, they will be breaking down bricks so that there would be nothing left here."

Inside the building, water covered the floors. Remnants of aerolite, rhinoboard, chipwood and waste were strewn from pillar to post. Armed with a sledge hammer and a duffel bag, two vandals proceeded to free an aluminium window frame from the wall in full view of the Cape Argus team.

One of the vandals told the Cape Argus he chose to steal from the hospital because the security guards were "bad at their jobs and did nothing to stop him".

"They said that we could break down at the back as long as they could break down at the front of the building. If we give them dagga or beers -- then it's alright. I blame the security, they are supposed to secure the place, right?"
“Die government gee nie vir ons werk nie, so, ons steel nie, ons het net gevat wat ons wil hê.” (The gov't gives us no work, we don't steal, we are smart to take what we wish). Link .......Meanwhile back in Baltimore, MD: “Let them loot, it’s only property,” ~ Mayor Rawlings-Blake.

[Fox] The man arrested in connection with the seemingly random killing of a woman who was out for a stroll with her father along the San Francisco waterfront is an illegal immigrant who previously had been deported five times, federal immigration officials say.

Further, Immigration and Customs Enforcement says San Francisco had him in their custody earlier this year but failed to notify ICE when he was released.

"DHS records indicate ICE lodged an immigration detainer on the subject at that time, requesting notification prior to his release so ICE officers could make arrangements to take custody. The detainer was not honored," ICE said in a statement Friday afternoon.

Kathryn Steinle was killed Wednesday evening at Pier 14 -- one of the busiest tourist destinations in the city.

Police said Thursday they arrested Francisco Sanchez in the shooting an hour after it occurred.

On Friday, ICE revealed their records indicate the individual has been previously deported five times, most recently in 2009, and is from Mexico.
An unapologetic Donald, how refreshing.

Greek bank official dismisses 'haircut' report as 'baseless'
ATHENS -- The Financial Times reported
The FT report is behind a paywall.
on Friday that Greek banks were preparing contingency plans for a possible "haircut" on deposits amid fears of financial collapse, a report the country's banking association said was "completely baseless".
"Lies! All lies!"
The report came two days ahead of a referendum in which Greeks will accept or reject the tough terms of an aid deal with international creditors, a vote with the potential to decide the country's future in the euro zone.

Greek leaders have repeatedly dismissed the possibility they will have to "bail-in" depositors to prevent the collapse of the banking system.
And if you can't believe a Greek politician who can you believe...
But citing bankers and business people with knowledge of the measures, the Financial Times reported: "The plans, which call for a 'haircut' of at least 30 percent on deposits above 8,000 euros, sketch out an increasingly likely scenario for at least one bank."

The report quoted a source as saying: "It (the haircut) would take place in the context of an overall restructuring of the bank sector once Greece is back in a bailout program."

The head of Greece's Bank Association dismissed the report as "completely baseless".

Louka Katseli, who also chairs the National Bank of Greece, told Skai TV that suggestions that authorities were planning a raid on deposits belonged "only in the sphere of fantasy."

"There are no such scenarios at any Greek bank, not even as an exercise on paper," Katseli said.
And he'll keep saying that right up to the moment they do it...

Iraq
Bombings in Baghdad, town south of Iraqi capital kill 8
[Rudaw] Iraqi officials say bombings in Baghdad and in a town south of the Iraqi capital have killed eight people.

Police officials say a bombing Friday near shops in the town of Madain, just south of Baghdad, left three people dead and maimed eight. Also in Madain, a bomb struck a checkpoint manned by pro-government Sunni militiamen, killing two fighters and wounding five.

The officials say a kaboom in a commercial street in eastern Baghdad killed three people. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to talk to news hounds.

Police said two bodies with gunshot wounds to the head and chest were found in eastern Baghdad. Dead bodies left in the street were a common occurrence during the sectarian violence that engulfed Iraq several years ago.

PA arrests 108 Hamas members in West Bank
[IsraelTimes] Terror group accuses Abbas forces of working for Israel, says it won't stop attacks against Israelis

Paleostinian Authority forces tossed in the clink
You have the right to remain silent...
108 Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, members in the West Bank in one of the biggest raids in years.

According to reports in Hamas-affiliated media, the raids began early Thursday morning and continued overnight Thursday-Friday. The arrests included senior Hamas officials, according to the reports.

The raids were conducted in Hebron, Nablus and Bethlehem, Walla News reported.

Hamas front man Husam Badran told the Palinfo news site that the "crazy" security measures undertaken by Paleostinian Authority forces against Hamas in the West Bank were meant to stop the recent spate of deadly Paleostinian attacks against Israelis.

He accused Paleostinian security forces of working for Israel and said the group holds Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
personally responsible for the "persecution and terror" applied by his forces. Hamas will continue attacks against Israelis in the West Bank, he said.

Badran also called on all factions to unite against PA measures, "which are tearing at the fabric of the Paleostinian people.

"It is our right to use all means to stop the crimes against our senior members in the West Bank," he was quoted as saying.

A front man for the Paleostinian Authority security services, Adnan Dameri, said "We will not let Hamas undermine our security and draw our country to bloodshed, we will not let Hamas carry out attacks in the West Bank."

The arrests were part of one of the biggest mass raids since 2007 when Hamas violently ousted forces loyal to Abbas from Gazoo, leaving him governing just parts of the West Bank.

There has been a sharp uptick in violent attacks against Israelis in recent weeks. At least one of the Paleostinian assailants in the spate of attacks was said to be affiliated with Hamas.

On Tuesday, 25-year-old Malachy Moshe Rosenfeld died of wounds sustained a day earlier in a shooting attack in the West Bank.

Last Sunday a Paleostinian man stabbed and seriously injured a female Israeli Border Police officer outside Jerusalem's Damascus Gate. The assailant, said to be a Hamas member or sympathizer, was shot and captured.

Last Friday a Paleostinian assailant was shot and killed by IDF soldiers after he opened fire on Israeli troops at a checkpoint in the West Bank. No soldiers were maimed in the attack.

On June 19, a 25-year-old Israeli man, Danny Gonen, died after being shot near the settlement of Dolev, northwest of Jerusalem.
An Nahar adds:
The people, jugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
overnight, "intended to carry out attacks against the Paleostinian Authority (PA)," the official said, without elaborating.

KRG 'obliged' to increase independent oil sales
[Rudaw] The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in a monthly oil report released Thursday said due to the long-standing budget impasse with Baghdad it had no choice but to increase its independent oil sales in June.

"The KRG was obliged to increase independent sales due to significant debt backlog arising from budget cut of 2014 imposed by federal government," read the statement released by the KRG Ministry of Natural Resources.

According to the statement in the month of June, KRG has exported 17,130,639 barrels of crude oil, making up an average of 571,021 barrel per day. The crude oil was shipped to the port of Ceyhan in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

This Week In Guns, July 4th, 2015

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

Happy 4th of July!

Fascists keep coming first for your resources, then your means of self defense and then your life.

The NY Times editorial board, a hive of scum and villainy, is now pushing for a "good cause justification" for granting concealed permits. This is an opening shot, a counterattack, if you will, ammunition for their sycophants in other states to start pushing for this new standard, soon to be the legal buzzword in the push to destroy gun rights.

After the latest declarations from SCOTUS, it is no stretch to imagine this will be applied as a standard to destroy states' rights.

Continuing the Star Wars motif, Jabba the Hutt had a few words for "every racist, war-mongering, Pseudo-Christian, RW Gun Extremist..." who want keep and bear arms:

"One proud White American, in less than 2 minutes, has killed TWICE as many Americans as ISIS has in 2 years. White Terrorists."

Rantburger Brer Rabbit from last week posed the question:

I got a hankering to pick up an AK 47. Does anyone have a recommendation? Mostly just looking for a plinking rifle.

My reply:

AKs are pretty much a commodity, so quality comes down to who assembles it. The key issue in AKs is the feeding of ammunition and spent shell ejections.

Problems in AK comes down to two: ejection issues and bolt over base issue, both problems are imminently fixable with the assembler, in the case of a new build, or a gun smith in the case of a personal build.

As a personal note, the AK is a helluva fine rifle.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Prices for pistol ammunition and for rifle ammunition were mostly steady.

Looking at prices from last quarter and then comparing them from the first of the year, prices for .223 ammunition are still ten percent per round higher now than they were from 4Q, 2015, but prices have moderated from a high of .27 per round from 1Q, 2015, after the attempted ATF power grab of banning M855 cartridges.

Prices for used pistols were mostly higher, while prices for used rifles were mixed.

This week it is the AK pattern 7.62x39mm semiautomatic rifle and the AR pattern .223/5.56x45mm pattern semiautomatic rifle which have reached new low average prices. The 7.62x51 NATO Ar pattern semiautomatic rifle has increased slightly this week.

Police officials said on Thursday that the arrests were made from the Shamshatu Bazaar area in the limits of Urmur cop shoppe on the outskirts of the city. They said that two of those arrested were Afghan nationals and one belonged to Mohmand Agency

According to the FIR, following a tip-off about printing of the pamphlets in Shamshtu Bazaar the police raided the shop and arrested three persons identified as Asmatullah, an Afghan currently residing in Shamshatu refugee camp; Abdur Rehman, another Afghan currently a resident of Naway Kallay, Bara Road; and Gul Khan of Mohmand Agency currently living near Budhni Pul, Charsadda Road, Peshawar.

The officials claimed to have recovered two laptops and two CPUs from the facility that contained pro-militant and anti-Pakistain material from the raided premises. Police have started the paperwork but haven't done much else under Section 124-A of Pakistain Panel Code and 11 ATA.

A senior police official requesting anonymity told Dawn that the arrests were made a day before by an intelligence agency. The Shamshatu refugee camp is located about 25 kilometres southeast of the quiet provincial capital.

An Israeli military source earlier said the rockets had been fired from Sinai, which borders Israel, the Gazoo Strip and the Suez Canal.

Israeli police said they had so far found remnants of two rockets in an open area. No damage or casualties were reported.

It was possible the launch was linked to the fighting in Sinai, the military source said, where faceless myrmidons of the Sinai Province group launched their biggest assault in years against Egyptian security forces on Wednesday.

Dozens of people have been killed in the past few days of festivities and air strikes in the desert region.

Iraq
U.S. seeing rapid expansion of Sunni outreach at new Anbar base
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] The United States is seeing signs that new efforts to draw Sunni rustics into Iraq's battle against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
may be taking root at a military base near the fallen capital of Sunni-dominated Anbar province, U.S. officials say.

A U.S. defense officials told Rooters the first group of 500 Sunni recruits would soon complete training at the Taqaddum military base near the city of Ramadi, making way for a second group of about 500 Sunnis who have agreed to participate.

The number of confirmed Sunni recruits for Taqaddum is double the amount first disclosed last month by the U.S. military and follows U.S. President Barack Obama
That’s just how white folks will do you....
's June 10 order to deploy American troops for the first time to the base.

About 400 American troops are now working at Taqaddum, some engaging with Sunni tribal leaders but not directly training the forces, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
Iraq's army has been burdened by a legacy of sectarianism in Anbar, whose dominant Sunni population resented former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's Shi'ite majority government and were incensed when he ordered troops to clear a protest camp in Ramadi in December 2013.

One of the goals of the U.S. deployment to Taqaddum is encouraging Sunni tribes to join the battle against Islamic State, drawing in fighters who felt unsafe traveling to the other U.S. outpost in Sunni-dominated Anbar province, at the Ain al-Asad air base.

Taqaddum is located only about 15 miles (25 km) from Ramadi, Anbar's capital, which fell to Islamic State fighters in May. Iraq is readying a counteroffensive to retake it.

The Sunni recruits at Taqaddum would represent a significant chunk of Sunni recruits so far for the still overwhelmingly Shi'ite popular mobilization forces. The first U.S. official estimated about 6,000 Sunni recruits.

A second official said Sunnis had so far demonstrated commitment to the training - noting that all 500 had returned to the base after a brief break to celebrate the Moslem holy month of Ramadan with their families.

Iraq's government also appeared invested, quickly providing small arms and ammunition for the Sunnis and directing funds to improve base facilities for them.

"There's a large (Sunni) population out there that's ... going to wait and see if this takes or not. And these are indications to me that this has taken," the second official said.

Arabia
Saudi-US Warplanes Strike Yemen Provinces, Kill 16
[ALMANAR.LB] The Yemeni army and the Popular Committees bombarded on Friday the Saudi al-Hothaira military post in Najran province, forcing all its soldiers to flee away with their military vehicles.

Warplanes from a Saudi-US aggression bombed civic targets in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
on Friday, residents said, and sources in the country reported at least 16 people were killed.

Local witnesses said six people including a woman and a child were killed and six maimed in a dawn air strike on the al Jaraf neighborhood of the capital Sanaa.

The state-run Saba news agency reported 10 people were killed by Saudi-led aerial attacks on a building in Bayt al-Faqih city in the southwestern province of al Hodeida.

Moreover, air strikes were also carried out on Faj Attan mountain overlooking Sanaa.

In the dawn attack, warplanes also hit the ministry of communications building, Saba added, setting it on fire and destroying nearby buildings.

The warplanes staged a further attack on the capital around noon, but there was no immediate word on casualties or damage.

In retaliation for the Saudi-US daily massacres in Yemen, the Yemeni army and the Popular Committees bombarded on Friday the Saudi al-Hothaira military post in Najran province, forcing all its soldiers to flee away with their military vehicles.

Earlier on Thursday, Saudi-led air strikes killed eight people in Sanaa, and launched 35 raids on the northern Saada province.

Explosions were heard throughout the city as the aerial bombardment concentrated on infrastructure and vital civic facilities in its south and west.

The attacks also targeted a house owned by the leader of former president President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh

's General People's Congress party.

The Saba agency said two people were killed and 15 maimed in the latest air strikes on Saada.

French President Denies Julian Assange's Request for Protection
[NYTIMES] The French president on Friday rejected an appeal for protection from Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks co-founder, who has spent three years under political asylum in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London.
The French have enough problems...
Mr. Assange made the request in a 2,700-word open letter, in French, that was published Friday on the website of Le Monde and addressed to President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
Mr. Assange said he was appealing to La Belle France because he sensed an openness to the idea of being granted asylum, citing comments made by Christiane Taubira, the French justice minister, and because he had a child whose mother is French.

Tunisia PM admits police took too long to react to attack
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid told the BBC on Friday that police took too long to react to last week's jihadi attack that killed 38 people, mostly Britons.

"The time of the reaction - this is the problem," Essid told the British broadcaster. Police had been "blocked everywhere," he added.

Essid spoke as Britannia's Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
led a minute's silence Friday for the victims, 30 of whom were British tourists.

ISIS claimed last Friday's attack by jihadi gunman Seifeddine Rezgui at the beach resort of Port El Kantaoui just north of Sousse.

Three Irish nationals, two Germans, one Belgian, one Portuguese and a Russian were also killed.

Essid offered Tunisia's condolences to Britannia.

"We feel really sorry about what happened," he said. "They were our guests. They came to spend their vacation with us, but what happened is a horror, unacceptable."

Mourners at Port El Kantaoui also held a minute's silence Friday, where they were joined by Essid.

The Tunisian beach ceremony was attended by the ministers of foreign affairs, tourism, health and youth and sports, flanked by a sizeable police presence.

Malia Obama Spends Time With Lena Dunham On 'Girls' Set
[BREITBART] The teenage daughter of a sitting U.S. President is hanging out with Lena Dunham.

President B.O.'s eldest daughter Malia, 16, was spotted in Brooklyn, New York on Thursday spending time on the set of Dunham's HBO comedy series Girls.

Page Six reports Malia, who turns 17 on Saturday, spent about three hours on location in Williamsburg as the show filmed at the Aurora Ristorante on Grand Street, and the teen spent time with Dunham.

While it hasn't been divulged if Malia will appear in an episode of the raunchy feminist-themed show, TMZ reports she is working for Dunham as a summer intern.

Girls went into a ratings free fall during Season Four, and has been criticized for its lack of racial diversity, emotionally detached characters, and overt, aggressive, and degrading sex scenes.

[DAWN] LAKKI MARWAT: Two people, including a proclaimed offender, were killed in a clash between two groups in Azerkhel village of Darra Pezu town here on Thursday.

Officials of Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan cop shoppe said that both the groups exchanged firing over a minor dispute wherein Mohammad Zahid from one side and a proclaimed offender, identified as Ameer Nawaz, from the other side were killed. Afghanistan
Taliban Recruiting Teachers for Zabul Schools: Official
[Tolo News] An official in southern Zabul claimed the school teachers were being recruited and appointed by the Taliban in the Shah Joy district.

Salaries of teachers were being pocketed by the Taliban as a number of forces of Evil have been appointed as instructors in the schools, Shah Joy district governor Wazir Mohammad Jawadi told TOLOnews.

"Our schools are absolutely Taliban-led," Jawadi told a gathering of the provincial governor, education director and other local officials. "All the school teachers are Taliban and that with guns [inside the schools]."

During the meeting, the Zabul elders also strongly criticized the teachers' hiring process and said many teachers were unable to teach.

"Most of the teachers are not even six grade school graduates," an elder complained.

Meanwhile the provincial education director, Rahimullah Ludin, denied the remarks and called them untrue.

He declared all the appointments were based on the prevailing laws of Afghanistan.

"I totally reject these statements because all the contracts of teachers are checked by the security agencies and criminal investigation departments," Ludin stated.

These statements came about two weeks after a U.S. watchdog revealed what it said the "Ghost Schools" in Afghanistan.

The U.S. Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) exposed in its recent report that Afghan Ministry of Education (MoE) officials had repeatedly been profiting off of aids for the schools that actually didn't exist in the country.

Former MoE officials were accused in the report of embezzling millions of dollars by providing fake school statistics to the donors.

Fighting Continues in Jalrez as Taliban Seize Several Check Points
[Tolo News] Jalrez provincial council painted a bleak picture on Friday on the Wardak province situation when they announced that the Jalrez district has virtually fallen into the hands of the Taliban.

Addressing a presser Friday morning, provincial council members said that armed Death Eaters have taken control of almost the entire district, with the exception of the district governor's building and some other government offices.

They said a number of coppers have been killed by the armed Death Eaters and heavy festivities are ongoing between security forces and the bad boys.

One council member blamed the central government for the situation, claiming that between 30 and 40 percent of security force members deployed to the area are not on duty.

The council members said however, that reinforcement troops have been sent in to push back the bad boys.

According to them at least 50 percent of check points in Chak district in Wardak province have also fallen into the Taliban's hands.

But the Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoI) officials strongly rejected fall of the district into the Taliban hands.

"I can assure you that the Taliban do not have that much power to seize control of districts in Wardak," deputy MoI front man Najibullah Danish told TOLOnews. "We have enough forces in Wardak to defend it."

This latest development comes after Wardak's deputy governor on Thursday said that Death Eaters had seized control of six police checkpoints in Jalrez district in Wardak province.

He said the armed confrontation between security forces and the Death Eaters started Wednesday night at around 11:00 pm and that by late Thursday afternoon fighting continued.

According to him, five Afghan Local Police (ALP) officers had been killed by Thursday night and a number of vehicles seized.

Syria rejects U.N. criticism of barrel bombs, says 'technical' issue
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Syria rejected a U.N. Human Rights Council resolution condemning its aerial bombing tactics record on Thursday, saying the use of barrel bombs was a "technical" issue that was no business of the Geneva-based body.

The United States and 10 European and Arab countries backed the resolution decrying the use of chemical weapons such as chlorine gas and the Syrian authorities' use of cluster munitions, ballistic missiles and barrel bombs.

Syrian Ambassador Hussam Eddin Aala said critics of Damascus were hypocrites who were supporting the "terrorists" on Syrian soil and said their resolution was selective and biased.

He said trying to involve the Council in their own political agendas "by using fabricated pretexts such as the humanitarian situation and the so-called use of explosive barrels is a conduct that detracts from the Council's credibility and seriousness - pushing (it) to intervene in technical issues".

British Ambassador Julian Braithwaite, who introduced the resolution, said the text had been the subject of extensive consultations and urged all the warring sides to respect human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
, end the violence and uphold international law.

Turkish police disarm gunman in Izmir
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Turkish police disarmed a man -- suspected of being a member of Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, terrorist group -- carrying 14 kilograms of explosives and a firearm near a shopping center in the western city of Izmir.

A police team performing a routine road check early Thursday morning in Izmir's Gaziemir district, stopped the suspect and found the weapons in a bag he was carrying, security officials said.

They identified the suspect as G.S. and said that they had been following him since he arrived in Izmir five days ago to allegedly carry out a kaboom.

Nine others have been detained in relation to the incident, officials said.

They added that G.S. is thought to have joined the terrorist group PKK in 2010 and received training in a camp in north Iraq. He had arrived in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
last week and was reportedly instructed to carry out the planned attack in Izmir.

Police took precautions against the possibility of the explosives being controlled by remote, closing the street to traffic and evacuating nearby citizens.

Injustice averted
[DAWN] HAD it not been for timely action by the police, the horror that was Kot Radha Kishan could have been replayed all over again on Tuesday in Makki, another village in Punjab. The circumstances were similar -- a poor Christian couple, a blasphemy allegation, hate-mongering holy mans inciting a mob to violence, and a possible underlying motive that had nothing at all to do with religion. The utter lack of reason was, of course, a given: the victims, who were illiterate, had found an old panaflex advertisement for various colleges which they were using to sleep on. Some Arabic inscription, allegedly from the Koran, was part of the text which led two holy mans and a barber -- who, it is said, coveted the couple's home -- to accuse them of committing blasphemy. According to a senior officer of the district police, a mob had dragged the couple out of their home and was beating them to death when the police intervened and rescued them. One of the holy mans who incited the mob has been enjugged
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
while the other two instigators are still on the lam.

It is, unfortunately, rare that law enforcement comes down so assertively on the side of marginalised groups, particularly when faced by mobs baying for blood. Perhaps the Kot Radha Kishan incident last year, in which a young Christian couple was lynched upon being accused of committing blasphemy and burnt in the brick kiln where they worked, was a watershed of sorts. The court has been insistent upon a thorough police investigation into that case, and recently indicted over 100 suspects, including the three holy mans who had allegedly incited the mob. In the current instance as well, all those involved must be brought to book, and the victims enabled to return to their home in dignity. While the actions of the police were no more than what their job demands, they must be commended -- for such a stand on their part sends a powerful message to those seeking power or pelf by exploiting religion.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Ukraine Can Defeat The Separatists
For those following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, an ongoing source of concern is where Russia will draw the line. Common wisdom says if Ukraine continues to resist, Russia will commit more forces and overrun Ukraine—possibly continuing its momentum into Estonia or Poland. As members of NATO, an attack on either of those two countries risks invoking Article V, NATO’s common-defense clause, thus drawing Europe and America into war with Russia, inexorably leading to World War III and nuclear exchange.

Well, there’s another cause for concern.

Will Israel Save America?
"Biblical Israel was America's inspiration. Its successor, the State of Israel, yet may be America's salvation, though usually the issue is put the other way around. America's founders, to be sure, saw in their "new nation, conceived in liberty" a new Israel, and Lincoln dubbed Americans an "almost chosen people." We long since put the notion of national election on the back shelf along with other memorabilia of the Revolution and Civil War. But Israel's founding and fight for survival strike a chord in our national character that reminds of us what we were and still should be."

With army ranks depleted, Syria urges people to enlist
Damascus -- With the Syrian army’s ranks depleted by casualties and rampant draft-dodging, a new campaign in the war-torn country is urging citizens to enlist. In recent weeks, billboards have sprung up across Damascus reading “Join the army,” “We are all the army,” and “With our army, we’ll win our country.”

The campaign is the work of a pro-government organisation known as the “Syrian Women’s Group for Good Deeds,” which includes mothers and daughters of Syrian soldiers.

One billboard shows two soldiers in fatigues, a man saluting and a woman pointing, under the phrases: “Our army means us” and “Join the army.”

Another shows a soldier in uniform next to a smiling girl with her hand raised in a victory sign.

More than 80,000 soldiers and other pro-regime fighters have been killed in the four-year conflict, out of a total of roughly 230,000 dead, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor. And many Syrians, even those who support the regime, have been reluctant to show up for mandatory two-year military service, with up to 70,000 failing to enlist, according to the Observatory.

The combination of casualties, defections, and draft-dodging has seen the country’s 300,000-strong military halved in size since the conflict began in March 2011, according to experts.

Last week, as part of efforts to convince people to serve, Prime Minister Wael Halaqi announced that, from July, soldiers at the front would receive monthly bonuses of 10,000 Syrian pounds ($33.50/30.18 euros) as well as an extra hot meal each day.
An extra thousand a month and some hot hummus? Such a deal!
A security source said the measures, said to have been ordered by President Bashar Al Assad himself, “fall under the framework of support and motivation” for the army.

Last year, the law was amended to guarantee that public sector employees who left to do their military service would still have their jobs when they returned.

A key contributor to draft-dodging has been the reluctance of people to serve far from home, as the law has generally stipulated, but authorities appear to be showing leniency on that.

A security official in Homs told local Sham FM radio Thursday that new recruits would not have to serve outside the central province. He urged “all those who have delayed their military service or failed to enlist... to regularise their status so they can carry out their military service exclusively inside Homs province.”

In Sweida province too, residents told AFP authorities were allowing residents of the majority Druze region to join local pro-regime militias instead of the army.

But for some, those incentives have not been enough, and there have been regular reports of raids to sweep up draft-dodgers. Witnesses told AFP that, in recent days, armed security personnel had raided several districts in Damascus in search of military-aged men.
No hummus for you!
Some men have paid smugglers to help them leave the country in order to avoid conscription.

“I can’t go to military service,” said Sam, 29, an engineer from Homs living in Damascus. “These days, those who go the army don’t come back.”
And the extra thousand a month can't be spent if you're dead...

AU, gummint forces leave Shabelle despite lingering fears
QORYOOLEY, Somalia -- Somali government forces alongside African Union peacekeepers have vacated new areas in Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia despite threats of takeover by Al Shabaab militants, Garowe Online reports.

Security sources disclose that fears of imminent clashes gripped residents of Awdhegle and Qoryoley, with the latter’s residents fleeing homes.

In Awdhegle where Al Shabaab briefly overran last month, allied forces began withdrawing late on Wednesday night. On the other hand, Lower Shabelle region town of Qoryoley witnessed similar pullout.

As of Thursday morning, people were fleeing homes over possible confrontations for the control of the strategic town.

A week ago, militants killed over a dozen African Union peacekeepers in deadliest raid in Lego.

Pro-Al Shabaab media reported that militants are heading towards the vacated areas.

Sheriff Andy Taylor dead at 86
For eight years, from the relative calm of the early '60s through the decade's turbulent later years, Andy Griffith— who died today at 86 — sat at or near the top of the ratings with The Andy Griffith Show. One of the rare shows to actually end its run at No. 1, Andy and its star were a calming, home-spun refuge from the social and political struggles raging outside the fictional world of Mayberry.

Vietnam, the sexual revolution and the fight for civil rights would eventually invade TV in the form of All in the Family. But Mayberry was a place apart — a bucolic paradise where elderly aunts dispensed comfort and homemade jam; drunks let themselves in and out of the county jail; and a warm, loving father opened each half-hour by taking his son fishing.

Four Somalis charged in Nairobi court
NAIROBI -- Four young Somalis arrested in Nairobi’s Eastliegh residential estate were charged in a Kenyan court Thursday with organised criminal activities and linking to ‘al-Shabaab’.

Nairobi’s Makadara Magistrate’s Court heard that Mohamed Nuno, Mohamed Rufal, Faisal Hussein and Abdikadir Abdullahi were found planning to violently recruit people to Al-Shabaab. They allegedly committed the offence on June 28 in Eastleigh, which is mainly inhabited by Kenyans of Somali origin.

The four were also charged that with assaulting Osman Ahmed, a student, by stabbing him in the abdomen. The prosecution said the complainant, who is in critical condition in hospital, was coming out of the mosque after evening prayers when he was confronted by the accused who are well known to him.

The Prosecution Counsel Daniel Kingori asked the court to remand the accused for 10 days as they were arrested on Wednesday and further investigations are to be done concerning the allegations of being ‘al-Shabaab’ members.

The accused denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Heston Nyaga, who ordered that due to the security of the country, the suspects be remanded at Shauri moyo police stations pending investigations and amending of the charges.

Kenya blames ‘al-Shabaab’ for the terror attacks, kidnappings of foreigners, and fears its tourist and business economy will be destroyed if it allows the insurgents to go on unchallenged.

Unprecedented number of terror threats on U.S.
A new report by the House Home Land Security Committee in the United States reveals that during the first six months of this year 24 terror attacks relating to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) have been pointed against western targets. This is a drastic rise compared to 19 attacks in all of 2014. The new report is to be published every month to cover all terror events in order to enlighten the congressmen on this matter.

The head of committee, Michael McCaul, said that the number of terror threats the U.S. has to face is unprecedented, as since 9/11/2011, 116 terror plots were registered -- more than half of them in the past three years. The report also shows that during the past year, since June 2014, around 22,000 foreign warriors have joined ISIS ranks, among them 200 U.S. citizens and 4000 from other western countries -- a rise of 80%. Furthermore, it states that at least 39 people were arrested or tried for connections to the murderous terror organization, for planning attacks, for trying to get to Syria to join ranks with ISIS, for sending money, equipment and weapons to its warriors, false declarations in front of federal authorities and for not reporting offenses.

The report to Congress doesn't leave out the social media field, which have become more relevant lately, especially being used by ISIS. According to it, the Sunni Islamic terror organization has published since last January more than 700 videos, pictures and magazines through social media. It goes to show that every day more than 20,000 posts are published on Twitter which side with the organization's extreme activity.

Cleric kaboomed in Damascus mosque
BEIRUT -- A bomb exploded inside a mosque in an opposition-held suburb of Damascus on Friday killing a Muslim cleric, Syria’s state TV reported. The TV said the bomb was placed under the pulpit, or minbar, at the Grand Mosque in the Tal area and went off shortly after the Friday prayers ended. The report said Shaikh Suleiman Afandi was instantly killed.

It was not immediately clear who was behind the killing. Tal has witnessed reconciliation between the government and rebels but is mostly opposition-controlled.

Bombings targeting mosques have not been uncommon during Syria’s civil war. In 2013, preacher Shaikh Mohammad Said Ramadan Al Buti — an outspoken supporter of President Bashar Assad — was killed along with at least 41 others when a suicide bomber struck a Damascus mosque.

Saudi policeman killed during raid, suspect at large
DUBAI -- A Saudi policeman was killed on Friday in an exchange of gunfire during a raid to arrest a wanted person in the western city of Taif, the SPA state news agency quoted an interior ministry spokesman as saying. The agency said three suspects had been detained and flags of Daesh seized, along with gun silencers and computers.

Saudi Arabia last month announced a list of 16 people it said were involved in two deadly mosque bombings claimed by Daesh in May and offered a cash reward of 5 million riyals ($1.3 million) for information leading to their arrest.

SPA said security men had come under fire on Friday while investigating a house in Taif where the suspect was believed to be hiding and responded to the fire in kind. It said Sergent Awad Seraj Al Malki was killed in the clash.

The statement suggested that the militant, identified as Youssef Abdellatif Shabab Al Ghamdi, remained at large and it urged citizens to help capture him, warning against anyone giving him shelter.

8 people suspected of direct links to Tunisia beach attack
Tunis, Tunisia -- Eight people are in custody in Tunisia, suspected of having direct links to a deadly beach attack that killed 38 people, but four other possible suspects have been released, a minister said Thursday.

The British Foreign Office, meanwhile, raised the death toll of British tourists killed in Friday’s attack from 27 to 30. Other European tourists were among the dead. The attack was Tunisia’s deadliest ever and threatens to be a devastating blow to its tourism sector.

Daesh group claimed responsibility for the attack, in which Tunisian student Seifeddine Rezgui opened fire on a beach in the resort of Sousse. He was later killed by police.

Government minister Kamel Jendoubi told reporters Thursday in Tunis the eight still detained — seven men and one woman — are suspected of direct links to the attack. He did not elaborate on their identities or roles, saying only that the investigation “has allowed us to discover the network behind the operation in Sousse.”

The minister also urged greater international terrorism cooperation in a “war ... between democratic Tunisia and an international jihadi movement.”

Sofiane Selliki, an official in the prosecutor’s office, said no one had been brought before a judge for charges.

A top security official told the AP this week that Rezgui had trained in an extremist camp in Libya at the same time as the two men who attacked a leading Tunisian museum in March, killing near. That raised fears of more attacks on this North African nation’s budding democracy.

More Tunisians — about 3,000 — are believed to have gone to Syria and Iraq to join radical extremists including Daesh group than fighters from any other country.

Female Suicide Bomber Storms Nigeria Mosque, Dozens Killed in Terrorist Attacks
[ALMANAR.LB] A youngjacket wallah'> exploding trollop female suicide bomber killed 12 worshippers when she blew herself up in a mosque in northeastern Nigeria, a witness and a vigilante assisting the military in the fight against Boko Haram

group said Friday.

"While the people were inside the mosque for the prayers she ran from a distance into the mosque and blew herself up," vigilante Danlami Ajaokuta said of Thursday's attack in Malari village, adding 12 had died and seven were maimed.

In similar development, dozens of civilians, some fear as high as 100, were killed in a massacre carried out by gunnies affiliated with Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria on Wednesday night, military and local sources said Thursday.

According to preliminary reports, gunnies went on a rampage in Borno state's Kukawa town and specifically targeted mosques in the area.

"Close to 100 people were murdered, especially those killed inside different mosques in the town. Women and children too were not spared," a military source in the Nigerian army in Maiduguri, a city in Borno state, told Anadolu Agency on Thursday evening.

He said the attack occurred around sunset time as Moslems offered the Maghrib prayer just shortly after opening the day's Ramadan fast Wednesday night.

Abba Kyari, one of the hundreds of locals who fled to Maiduguri, capital city of Borno state, said that the attack took place when Moslems were praying.

"Very few of us got away with slight injuries as we made away. But we cannot account for our family members now. The mosques are littered with corpses and our houses have been burnt," Kyari, who spoke in the local Hausa news outlet, said.

Kyari said that he knew only five out of the over 50 people who attended the Maghrib prayer at the mosque who survived and were now in Maiduguri.
More attacks on a busy day:

The latest attacks took place at Malari village, just outside Maiduguri, and began with an kaboom from a teenage girl at the market that killed at least 10 people, said security guard Abba Shehu. Minutes later a woman in a taxi blew up at a military checkpoint and killed a soldier and two passengers.

There are fears Boko Haram is using some of its thousands of captives as weapons.

Boko Haram Kill 11 in Nigeria who 'Escaped Forced Conscription'

[AnNahar] Suspected Boko Haram holy warriors killed 11 men overnight Friday in northeastern Nigeria, dragging them from their homes and shooting them for escaping forced conscription by their group, residents said.

"Boko Haram fighters killed 11 people in our village (Miringa) this morning. The men had fled Gwargware village in (neighboring) Yobe state to seek refuge in our village after Boko Haram tried to force them to join their ranks," said resident Isa Mshelia.

Baballe Mohammed, another resident, said the gunnies came to the village around 1.30am on Friday. They "picked 13 men from selected homes and took them to the Eid prayer ground outside the village where they opened fire on them," he said, adding two managed to escape. "The victims were well targeted because they were all residents of Gwargware village... who fled to Miringa some months ago to escape forced conscription by Boko Haram."

Turkey reinforces Syria border, Davutoglu says no incursion planned
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
has deployed additional troops and equipment along part of its border with Syria as fighting north of the city of Aleppo intensifies, security sources said, but Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said there were no immediate plans for any incursion.

Security sources and officials in the capital, Ankara, said the Turkish army had stepped up security, also sending in special forces, due to the heavy fighting.

Syrian bully boyz led by Islamist groups began a major offensive for full control of the divided northern city, a monitor and rebels said on Thursday, a move which would be a major blow for Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
"It's correct that we have taken precautions to protect our border. If there's any circumstance across the border that threatens Turkish security, orders to act have been given," Davutoglu told broadcaster Kanal 7.

"(But) no one should have the expectation that Turkey will enter Syria tomorrow or in the near term," he said.

Some media had speculated an imminent cross-border operation was being planned.

"If anything occurred that were to threaten Turkish security, we wouldn't wait for tomorrow, we would go right in," Davutoglu added.

"But it's wrong to expect that Turkey would undertake such a unilateral intervention in the immediate term if there is no such risk."

Asked about the possibility of Turkey establishing a 'secure zone' in Syria, U.S. ambassador to Ankara John Bass said Turkey and the United States had a shared concern about the presence of hardline Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. Russia warned Ban Ki-moon of supporting Friends of Syria Group: Saudi Cables
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] An official diplomatic Saudi document published on WikiLeaks shows that Russia had practiced intimidation against the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
, the Secretary-General of the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
, if he attended the conference of the Group of Friends of the Syrian People ("the Friends' Group")in Tunisia 2012.

A letter sent from Ali Bin Mohammed al-Hamdan, the Saudi Ambassador in Sanaa to the Minister of foreign affairs, Saud Al Faisal, in which the Ambassador reported that Jamal Bin Omar, the special envoy to Yemen, told him about Ban Ki-moon and the phone call he received from Russia in which he was warned directly from attending the Syrian people's Friends conference in Tunisia.

Al-Hamdan mentioned that Ban Ki-moon was willing to visit the kingdom of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and meet the Minister of Foreign Affairs to "explain to him some matters", according to the letter.

In February 2012, Tunisia hosted the fist conference for the Friends of Syria Group conference and many conferences followed, but it failed to help Syrian people and their devastating crisis.

WikiLeaks had 3 weeks ago started posting diplomatic Saudi documents counted roughly 60,000 files. Most of them appear to be in Arabic.

There was no immediate way to verify the authenticity of the documents, although WikiLeaks has a long track record of hosting large-scale leaks of government material. Many of the documents carried green letterhead marked "Kingdom of Saudi Arabia" or "Ministry of Foreign Affairs."

Police arrest cleric who led mob against Christian couple for 'blasphemy'
[DAWN] LAHORE: Police said on Friday they had locked away
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
a holy man, who was on the lam, accused of leading a mob trying to kill a Christian couple for allegedly desecrating the Holy Koran.

Police had rescued the Christians from the crowd near Lahore on Tuesday, a relatively unusual intervention in a country where those accused of blasphemy are sometimes lynched on the spot.

"One of the holy mans who led the mob demanding the arrest of the couple and their death was on the lam, he was arrested today (Friday) and we are looking for a barber who ignited the whole issue," Sohail Zafar Chattha, the district police chief, told AFP.

Another holy man was arrested earlier in the week.

Police officer Sohail Zaffar Chattha said the holy man leading the mob demanded that police arrest the couple and charge them with blasphemy against Islam.

"I told him I would not register a case because no blasphemy has been committed. But I have started the paperwork but haven't done much else against the holy man and 400 others for inciting violence and endangering the lives of the couple," Chattha said in a telephone interview.

About 500 people in Sadar Farooqabad town of Makki village near Lahore attacked Owais Masih and his wife after a neighbour complained that they were sleeping on a plastic sheet with verses from the Koran written on it.

Police rescued the couple as the mob began to beat them. The couple were later taken into protective custody and moved to some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location.

"The mob meant business. They wanted to kill them right there," Chattha said. "And all because they are poor, illiterate people who didn't realise that a line from the Koran was written on a sheet they had purchased."

Blasphemy is punishable by death in Pakistain. The charge is hard to fight because the law does not define clearly what is considered blasphemous.

Even presenting the evidence in court can sometimes itself be considered a fresh infringement.

End of Khyber-II
[DAWN] ON the first anniversary of the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
on June 15, the military wrapped up Operation Khyber-II in the Tirah region. Launched in March, after the military cleared much of the Bara plain in Operation Khyber-I, this follow-on operation in Khyber Agency was meant to clear the fierce Tirah terrain consisting of deep valleys and high mountains. The principal threat in the Tirah region came from the TTP; the Mangal Bagh
...a former bus driver, now head of the Deobandi bandido group Lashkar-e-Islam and the Terror of Khyber Agency...
-led Lashkar-e-Islam
...a group of Islamic bandidos infesting Khyber Agency. It's headed by a former bus driver....
; a breakaway TTP faction, the Jamaatul Ahrar
...A Pak Taliban splinter group that split off from the Mullah Fazlullah faction because it wasn't violent enough...
; and sundry foreign bad boys. That the military, with its superior power, would eventually prevail over the Death Eaters in terms of reclaiming the Tirah region was always clear. However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
there has been a high cost, not least in terms of the more than 50 dead soldiers and over 100 injured. Yet, with the army chief in North Wazoo yesterday and the military preparing for what is expected to be one of the toughest fights there in the Shawal region, loss of life in military operations is the high price the country sadly must pay for the state to once again reassert its control in the militancy-hit regions.

It should be noted that Operation Khyber-II has not resulted in actual physical control by the military of all three passes from Tirah into Afghanistan -- though the unreclaimed valleys of one of the three passes can, according to the military, be controlled by aerial firepower because the military now occupies the peaks over them. This means two things. One, Operation Khyber-II may require another phase for the total recapture of Tirah. Two, the military may apparently be forced into the continued use of air strikes in the Rajgal and Kachkol valleys to prevent the movement of Death Eaters until winter. At that point, with the onset of the cold season, a new challenge will emerge if the valleys have not been taken over by the military by then -- ensuring a military presence in tough and inhospitable terrain while simultaneously guarding against hardened Death Eaters slipping in under the cover of extreme temperatures. Vital as it has been to reclaim the Tirah region, it was clearly left to the last because of the challenge it posed, unlike the Bara plains which were relatively easier to secure in Khyber-I.

From this point onwards, the post-operation challenge is a familiar one: the military can hold and secure terrain, but it will only ever return to some semblance of long-term normality if the civil administration is allowed to function -- and if the civilians show some ownership of the project. Administrative control of the Tirah tehsil has traditionally been done from Bara, a situation that must change if Tirah is to be stabilised. Perhaps a road-building project into Tirah would also go a long way in creating long-term stability in a region that has been dominated by kidnap gangs, narcos and, of course, bad boy groups.

Somalia is home to two secret US drone bases
Up to 120 US military personnel are operating out of two secret drone bases in Somalia, carrying out attacks on Al-Shabab militants and working with African Union peacekeepers, a new report has revealed.
But don't tell anyone because it's a secret...
Somali officials have confirmed a secretive US presence in the southern port city of Kismayo, according to Foreign Policy correspondent Ty McCormick. Another base, at the airfield of Baledogle near Mogadishu, is being used for both drone strikes and for contractors training Somali security forces.

Regional administration official Abdighani Abdi Jama told McCormick that as many as 40 US personnel conduct “intelligence” and “counterterrorism” operations and operate drones from their base at Kismayo airport, about 300 miles south of Mogadishu. Somali officials and sources within the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) also indicated a similar presence at Baledogle, in the Lower Shebelle region.

Washington has not officially admitted to operating drones from Somali territory,
...finally, someone with some sense at Foggy Bottom...
with drone flights said to originate from US bases in the neighboring Djibouti, and outposts in Kenya and Ethiopia. The US also has an outpost in the Seychelles, an archipelago some 800 miles off the Somali coast.

US Africa Command (AFRICOM) spokesman Chuck Prichard declined to comment on the size or location of their units, saying only that the “small number” of US Special Forces deployed the region was “not tasked with directly engaging enemy forces.”

“The exact nature of this support, weapons systems or number of personnel involved in these operations cannot be disclosed in order to protect the integrity of these operations and the safety of units in the region,” Prichard wrote in an email to Foreign Policy.

US forces have conducted drone and helicopter attacks against Al-Shabab since 2007. An American drone killed the group’s leader Ahmed Abdi Godane in 2014.

On more than one occasion, US special operations teams have staged their attacks from bases belonging to Kenyan and Ugandan forces within AMISOM says McCormick, citing anonymous sources from within the peacekeeping mission.

“They come to our forward operating bases and sometimes do joint operations with us,” said one Ugandan source. “We often don’t get much notice,” he added. “They don’t trust us, and we don’t trust them.”
Given the history and terrain, a very constructive arrangement ek se.
According to the Bureau of Investigative Journalists, up to 105 people may have been killed in US drone strikes in Somalia, of which there have been no more than 13 since 2007. Most of them were not civilians. Other covert operations killed between 40 and 141 people, with civilians making seven to 47 of them.
So we're whacking bad guys, trying to spare civilians, and not talking about it. Sounds like someone is doing their job well...
Since 2007, Washington has spent almost $1 billion on funding AMISOM, $500 million directly and another $455 million through the UN. That has reportedly helped the African Union troops turn the tide against Al-Shabab, reducing their control from 60 percent of Somalian territory in 2010 to reportedly only 6 percent today.
Not a topic of discussion among gentlemen or the diplomatic crowd, but the funding of contractors from other regions of the continent has played a significant role as well.
According to Bronwyn Bruton, from the Atlantic Council’s Africa Center,
...and a professional hand-wringer...
Al-Shabab has simply changed the way it operates and remains a dangerous force to be reckoned with. “They are not actually confronting AMISOM head-on anymore, which means that their forces and weapons are mostly intact,” she told McCormick. “They have shifted from a conventional force to a pure terrorist one that is increasingly focusing its attention on attacks outside of Somalia, in Kenya, and elsewhere in the region.”

Illegal Aliens Disrupt Ann Coulter Book Signing, Author Fires Back
[BREITBART] Political commentator and author Ann Coulter was signing copies of her new book Adios America: The Left's Plan to Turn our Country into a Third World Hellhole at a Barnes and Noble Tuesday night when the calm was shattered by protesters inside the store.

As dozens of fans waited their turn to have a book signed, several people rose from the tables in the adjacent Starbucks and began bellowing slogans:

"Undocumented, unafraid!" they yelled. "Ain't no power like the power of the people 'cause the power of the people don't stop!"

The protesters inside the store, unfurled a large banner reading "Adios, Ann Coulter," and brandished Mexican and anarchist flags. Some approached the front of the line and attempted to confront Coulter, but were fired upon rebuffed by security guards.

#1  These people are like the Muslims who threaten to kill us when we say they are violent. We fret about how they're turning our country into a third world hell hole and they proceed to do just that right in front of the cameras, waving their Mexican flags to make certain we understand that this really is the Reconquista.

Pentagon's Vaunted F-35 Earns Lousy Review From Test Pilot In Secret Report

#1  the test plane was missing some of the F-35’s most impressive technology, such as long-range abilities that allow it to avoid dogfights to begin with

Where have I heard this before? Oh thats right, the F-4, didnt need a gun because it would never get into dogfighting range.

The pentagon princes havent any institutional memory? Old spooks like me certainly arent welcome anymore because we call them out on it. Progressivism at work in the military - counter information is treated like hostile political act instead of something to be analyzed and acted upon. Years Obama deliberate promotion of that sort of officer are rotting the armed forces from the inside.

#4  #2 often overlooked is this passage -

Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades.

In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.

Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.

The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded.

Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientifictechnological elite.

The academic-technological complex has also been damaging. Bay Area Techo-oligarchs and academic climatologists to the courtesy phone.

#8  Are you in particular referring to what he wrote here?

Puts things in perspective here. So, the Viper was flying right around it's corner and max instantaneous, while the F-35 was supposed to go elevated AoA and see if the control laws would prevent the plane from departing when performing elevated AoA BFM. The Viper was at a clear advantage all along, but it wasn't there to win, it was there as a visual reference to maneuver against. The whole point was to put the F-35 in a bad position and see what the control laws did. Which is exactly what the JPO said.

While the dogfighting scenario was successful in showing the ability of the F-35 to maneuver to the edge of its limits without exceeding them, and handle in a positive and predictable manner, the interpretation of the scenario results could be misleading.
Turns out the early law are biased towards departure prevention(not a bad thing early in a program), not exactly an Earth shattering discovery, and that there's plenty of margin available to improve performance, again not exactly Earth shattering. At least a sizable subset of these critics aren't old enough to remember that the first wave of FBW A/C went through similar cycle or didn't pay attention/forgot that Super Bug and Raptor did also.

Now with the critic's original argument discredited they take something else out of context...Wash, lather, repeat, the cycle continues. They're always certain their right but curiously avoid making a stand in the face of a rigorous technical argument.

India-Pakistan
Nato tanker arsonists 'hated America for invading Iraq'
[DAWN] If the investigation into the attacks on NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and organization....
fuel tankers is to be believed, the Iraq war of 2003 was the motivation for the attacks on NATO convoys in Pakistain.

Indeed, those convicted for torching oil tankers carrying supplies for NATO troops in Afghanistan, seem to be educated, well-to-do and have said that the second US-led invasion of Iraq provoked them to carry out a 'jihad' against America.

On June 30, an Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi convicted Ali Imran, Aizazur Rehman and Shujauddin and awarded them the death sentence on eight counts. They have also been sentences to life in prison and fined heavily for burning NATO oil tankers on April 24, 2010.

According to the investigation, Ali Imran -- the principal accused -- was motivated by the US attack on Iraq to wage 'jihad' against the aggressing country.

A resident of the Doctor's Housing Society located near the Islamabad suburb of Koral, Ali Imran is believed to have joined the Jamaat Talba Islam (JTI) in the year 2000. His attorney, Malik Rafique, told Dawn that, at the time, Imran was a student at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). Imran's father, Dr Hafizur Rehman, was a former district president of the Al-Khidmat Foundation -- a non-profit charity organization linked to the Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
(JI).

Advocate Aizazur Rehman, the second convict, was a law graduate and an active member of the district bar association in Jhelum and also taught at a local college, his lawyer told Dawn.

Shujauddin, the third convict, hails from tehsil Dina in Jhelum and was Rehman's cousin. The investigation also makes him out to be an active member of the Jamaat-ud-Dawa
...the front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba...
(JuD).

The investigation revealed that Ali Imran met certain jihadi sympathisers in Islamabad, including Yaqoob alias Idrees, who took him to Wana in South Wazirstan for training. There, he is also believed to have met another Islamabad-native, Aslam alias Ibrahim.

After completing the training, Imran came back to Islamabad and kept in contact with Aslam. In their meetings, they discussed plans to disrupt the NATO supply line by setting fire to the fuel tankers.

Advocate Rehman's story is not very dissimilar; the investigation supposedly unearthed links he had with holy warrior organizations and claimed that Rehman met Imran in the summer of 2010 in Islamabad and together, they planned attacks the NATO fuel tankers.

Shujauddin is also said to have acquired training at a holy warrior camp in Wana. Investigators believe that he was the one responsible for setting fire to around 70 NATO tankers near Jeddah Town, Fateh Jang and Pindi Gheb.

Mr Rafique, who represents the three men, however, maintained that police had fabricated a false story to implicate his clients, who were well-educated individuals and not involved with militancy in any form.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
Imran Qaiser, the public prosecutor in the case, told Dawn that the suspects were fully complicit in the attack on the NATO tankers. He said that the prosecution and investigation team had been warned and threatened by the suspects' sympathisers.

"This is a high-profile case and, therefore, the prosecution did its job and assisted the court as well as it could, even in the face of apparent danger," he said.

Mr Qaiser said that none of these men had attended a religious seminary, adding that all three were from relatively well-off backgrounds and had engaged an expert criminal lawyer to defend them.

This is not the only recent case of terrorism in the capital which has seen the involvement of middle-class and well-educated individuals. The alleged attackers and their controllers in the murder of Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali -- the prosecutor for the Benazir Bhutto
... 11th Prime Minister of Pakistain in two non-consecutive terms from 1988 until 1990 and 1993 until 1996. She was the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founder of the Pakistain People's Party, who was murdered at the instigation of General Ayub Khan. She was murdered in her turn by person or persons unknown while campaigning in late 2007. Suspects include, to note just a few, Baitullah Mehsud, General Pervez Musharraf, the ISI, al-Qaeda in Pakistain, and her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, who shows remarkably little curiosity about who done her in...

Houthi Addresses Yemeni Fighters: You're Fighting War of Dignity, Independence

Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
addressed the Yemeni fighters of army and popular committees on Thursday night, hailing their firm stand in the face of evil forces.

"Had it not been for your great honored stand in the field, evil and murderous forces would have fully occupied the country," Sayyed Houthi said in a voice message, adding that it's a "great honor that you are defending the dear oppressed Moslem people who's one of the noblest peoples."

"You are indeed the loyals in the test which unveil who's the sincere and who's the liar, who's the collaborator and who's the patriot," Ansarullah leader pointed out.

Sayyed Houthi stressed that Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
has always been a graveyard for invaders and steadfast infront of arrogants and tyrants, accusing the US and Israel, who blackenned the humanity page with their crimes, of being on the forefront of the aggression against Yemen.

He urged the Yemeni fighters, whom he called the "men of the field", to repel the aggression and be cautious and patient before burdens and troubles, stressing to them that "you're fighting the battle of independence, freedom, dignity and honor, and victory would establish a genuine future for your country," promising them with definite victory.

Houthi's message came hours after the Yemeni army and popular forces secured Brigade 31 in Bir Ahmed area and regained all gears and weapons from Al-Qaeda faceless myrmidons in Aden. It also came in the wake of the killing of a number of Saudi soldiers and injuring of others inaddition to destroying after forces stormed Jallah military site in Jizan in Soddy Arabia

NY Times: Top Tunisian 'Jihadist' Killed by US Strike in Libya
[ALMANAR.LB] A top Tunisian terrorist and associate of late Al-Qaeda leader the late Osama bin Laden
... who is now beyond all cares and woe...
was killed by a US Arclight airstrike in Libya last month, the New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
reported.

Seifallah Ben Hassine, Tunisia's most wanted Jihadist, who criminal masterminded a campaign of liquidations and terrorist attacks, including one against the United States Embassy in Tunis, was killed mid-June in an Arclight airstrike that targeted a top Al Qaeda-linked terrorist, the paper said.

Ben Hassine, also known as Abu Ayadh, is believed to have coordinated a string of liquidations, including the killing of famed Afghan anti-Taliban fighter Ahmad Shah Masood in 2001.

He was one of Osama bin Laden's top lieutenants and the leader of the outlawed group Ansar al-Sharia

h in Tunisia. He had been based in Libya since 2013, according to reports, and ran training camps and a network of bad boy cells across the region.

Tunisian officials also accused Ben Hassine of directing the killings of two secular Tunisian politicians in 2013, the paper reported.

"His death, if confirmed, would be an important victory for Tunisia in its struggle to contain a persistent insurgency in its western border region and a growing threat to its urban centers," New York Times said.

Moreover, Tunisian station Radio Mosaique first reported Ben Hassine's death, which the US paper said it had confirmed with an official in Washington.

The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a confidential military assessment, said Ben Hassine died in a strike that targeted Mokhtar Belmokhtar, a top Al Qaeda-linked bad boy believed to have criminal masterminded a deadly attack on an Algerian gas plant in 2013.

Libya's government reported at the time that Belmokhtar was killed in the attack but Al Qaeda's North Africa branch denied it.

Hassine had been on a United Nations

in 2011.

Cuba has doubts as Google pitches expanded Internet
[THESTAR] Google executives have proposed to the Cuban government a way to expand Internet access on the island quickly and massively, but Cuban authorities are skeptical of the plan, several sources familiar with the proposal have told El Nuevo Herald.

The sources said the proposal would make the Internet available through Wi-Fi connections and cellular phones, much like Google Ideas executive Brett Perlmutter suggested during a recent visit to Havana. The sources asked for anonymity and declined to provide further details.

"Cuba has a big opportunity to jump its infrastructure directly into mobile phones, without going through all of the fixed cables that are being installed in African countries," Perlmutter told the digital magazine On Cuba during the visit.

Syrian army launches most intense attack in years on rebels trying to seize Aleppo
[ABC.NET.AU] Syrian government forces have carried out heavy air strikes on rebel positions in and around the northern city of Aleppo, aiming to repel a major Islamist-led offensive on areas controlled by president Bashir al-Assad.

The attack, the most intense bad boy offensive in Aleppo in three years, aimed to build on recent advances against Mr Assad by an array of groups fighting on separate fronts, including Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
and rebels backed by his regional foes.

Later, state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
showed scores of bodies of armed combatants, saying the army had killed at least 100 Lions of Islam in the counter-offensive.

Aleppo, 50 km south of the Turkish border, was Syria's most populous city before the country's descent into civil war.

It has been partitioned into zones of government and bad boy control since 2012.

Aleppo is of vital importance to Mr Assad, and losing it would further entrench a de facto partition of Syria between western areas still governed from Damascus and the rest of the country run by a patchwork of militias.

Fighting between the Lions of Islam and government forces in Aleppo raged into the early hours of Friday.

Syrian air and army strikes on rebel emplacements were continuous, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a group monitoring the war, said.

A Syrian military source said the attack had been repulsed and heavy casualties had been inflicted on the bad boys.

He added that the air force and artillery had been used to target the rebels, who he said had used heavy weapons in their attack.

Rami Abdulrahman from the Syrian Observatory said rebel forces had seized some buildings from government control on the northwestern city outskirts of Jamiyat al-Zahra.

He later said the Lions of Islam were making headway in a part of western Aleppo that would get them closer to the heart of the city.

At least 35 Lions of Islam were killed in that area, including a dozen Syrians and many others of central Asian origin, Mr Abdulrahman said.

Bangladesh
Banned Hizb ut-Tahrir now prefers direct action
[Dhaka Tribune] Even though their activities were earlier limited to only carrying out brief campaigns publicly in favour of establishing Caliphate, many of the members of banned myrmidon outfit Hizbut Tahrir
...an al-Qaeda recruiting organization banned in most countries. It calls for the reestablishment of the Caliphate...
are now working together with the other outlawed myrmidon groups and platforms to wage destructive activities.

Hizbut Tahrir has members and sympathisers in the administration, different security agencies, higher educational institutes, mosques and madrasas. The connections work as a boost for them to take lead in those platforms, sources say.

Having branches in a number of countries, Hizbut Tahrir started its operation in Bangladesh in 2000 and was banned in 2009 for its involvement in myrmidon activities.

Since then they were campaigning against democratic governments by issuing media releases after holding brief processions and rallies in front of different mosques in the capital, Rajshahi and elsewhere, and pasting posters on the walls in the capital's different areas especially Mohammadpur.

Latest, some 50 leaders and members were spotted on the first day of Ramadan in front of Gulshan Central Mosque, also known as Azad Mosque, after Jumma prayers as part of its global campaign.

They invited the common Moslems to join their cause through leaflets and expeditiously departed at a goodly pace in a short time. Police received complaints but failed to arrest anyone from the spot.

However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
according to the Anti-Terrorism Act that is applied against outlawed groups, any activity of such organization -- in any form -- is considered as anti-state.

Despite facing ban, online and offline activities of the group that accepts male and female students mainly of private and public universities was never stopped until date.

They are operating the websites and Facebook pages in full swing.

They lure the common Moslems to join their movement by shaming the government terming it corrupt and anti-Islam, and claiming that they have a number of influential persons supporting their cause.

Recently they also campaigned against the proposed budget, the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the city corporation elections. Earlier, through posters and leaflets, they had asked the armed forces to capture power and set them in the helm to establish Caliphate.

In the face of recent threats, the detectives prepared a list of leaders and activists of the outfit, and found that most of them belong to high profile families of the capital.

Hefazat demands Latif Siddique's death penalty
[Dhaka Tribune] Salafist platform Hefajat-e-Islam
...a madrassa-based false nose and mustache of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, formed in 2010 to protest against secular education. In 2011 demonstrated violentyly against women's rights and in 2013 held large rallies demanding capital punishment of Shahbag Square protesters and banning women working outside the home...
after yesterday's Jummah prayer demonstrated in Chittagong's Anderkilla area demanding that sacked Awami League minister Abdul Latif Siddique be retossed in the calaboose
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
and sentenced to death.

Its members brought out a procession from Anderkillah Shahi Jam-e Masjid and marched through different points of the city before stopping on Chittagong Press Club premises.

Mainuddin Ruhi, central joint secretary general of Hefazat, said protests against atheists started from Chittagong back in 2013. "We will resume protests from here after the month of Ramadan, demanding death penalty for notorious atheist Abdul Latif Siddique," he said.

"The government staged a drama over Latif Siddique issue and people now want to see the conclusion of it. Hefazat Nayeb-e-ameer Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury was not granted bail in just a single lawsuit [filed over grenade blast at his Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa] while Latif has secured bailed in as many as 19 cases," said Azizul Haque Islamabadi, its organising secretary.

Formed in 2010, Hefazat is a Qawmi madrasa-based platform having association with radical Islamist parties and groups.

It carried out demonstrations in early 2013 against the activists demanding death penalty for the 1971 war criminals terming them atheists. They also placed 13-point demands which the government termed contrary to the constitution.

"Latif has enraged the people of the country by making derogatory remarks on Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PTUI!). We will sacrifice our lives to protect Islam if necessary."

On Tuesday, Hefazat issued an ultimatum, calling for the arrest of Latif Siddique by Thursday. Its leaders have also threatened to kill the former minister wherever he is found.

Latif, who also lost his membership of the Awami League, was freed on June 29 after he had obtained bail in cases filed on charges of hurting religious sentiment of the Moslems.

Security sources speaking to Fox News note that the Kurdish forces--the YPG/YPJ in Syria and the Peshmerga in Iraq--have made significant advances in the past months, keeping ISIS from recapturing the Turkish border town of Kobani and even making inroads in Raqqa province, home to the Islamic State's "capital" city. "They are pushing hard in Kirkuk to hold Kirkuk and keep ISIS out and once that is done, they will move forward with plans for their country," said a source described as an "operator on the ground with direct connections to Kurdish leaders, adding, "They have only one goal, whether the U.S. likes it or not."

Fox's report notes that the B.O. regime has been adamantly opposed to the creation of an independent Kurdistan, citing a State Department front man telling the news outlet that America is "very supportive" of the Kurds while being "clear and consistent in support of a unified Iraq."

Kurdish leaders seem skeptical that a state can both support the Shiite-run government in Baghdad and the Iraqi Kurdish forces, based in Erbil. One leader--Lahur Talabani of the Kurdistan Intelligence Agency--tells Fox News that Kurdistan is like Israel: "We have suffered for years. Gassed by Saddam. Mass Graves. We have suffered like the Jews at the hands of these surrounding countries, and we are very pro-West. You don't find any other countries like that in this region."

#1  The "...like the Jews." thing is comparable to I drive like Mario Andretti (late '60's version). That aside, I suspect POTUS and Company think there are quite enough states in the ME, excepting, of course, a homeland for the Paleostains.

#2  Middle East used to be composed of thousand different ethnic groups---and be a cradle of civilization. Since Arab conquest, it's been a sh*thole.

#3  Hey Kurds, chant 'death to America' and start a nuclear program and John Kerry will arrive on his broken bike with checkbook in hand.
