Anger Is Making Us Stupid
h/t Instapundit
...Our anger comes from fear. Fear of being bullied into silence. Fear of the IRS coming after us for our opinions. Fear of our businesses being destroyed by small-minded H8ers. Fear of a White House that finds myriad ways to harass and even imprison those who disagree with it. Fear of a media that lies and lies and lies, that covers up non-compliant reality in order to sell a left-wing narrative that will secure their sense of virtue and increase the political influence of their corporate bosses.

When a man like Trump seems to spit in the eye of the people we fear, we rally behind him thinking we're fighting back. We're not. We're following our fear right down the rabbit hole.

You want to win back your country? Here's how. Fear nothing. Hate no one. Stick to principles. Unchecked borders are dangerous not because Mexicans are evil but because evil thrives when good men don't stand guard. Poverty programs are misguided, not because the poor are undeserving criminals, but because dependency on government breeds dysfunction and more poverty. Guns save lives and protect liberty. Property rights guarantee liberty. Religious rights are essential to liberty. Without liberty we are equal only in misery.

These things are true. They're true for white people and black people, male people and female people, straight people and gay people. We should support the smartest, most proven, most statesmanlike candidate who best represents those principles. And we should do it out of -- dare I say the word? -- love. Love for our neighbors, our fellow citizens, white and black, male and female, straight and gay.

#1  When the Germans bombed Warsaw, Rotterdam, London, so much outrage was expressed. By the time the war was over, we had bombed just about every major German city. Win first. Then worry about niceties of civilization.

You are at war. You are not even trying. You will either lose or you will take up the tactics that gained your enemy their power and position. After you win, then you can go back to principles. Till then only victory counts otherwise you are just another entry in the history books.

#3  I called this the "Walled Garden" theory of democracy.

The nice rules we make for ourselves in our peaceful walled garden make life there very pleasant. But after a while we forget that our rules are artificial. They only apply in the artificial little world we have created for our fat and happy selves.

Outside the walls the old rules apply. The nasty, mean rules that we have intentionally isolated ourselves from. It is not a place of peace or plenty. It is a place of base desires, greed and hunger. And they want what we have.

When we go outside the walls to protect our garden, we can no longer apply the garden rules. If we make that mistake we lose.

The other mistake is when rules we have developed for threats from outside the garden are used inside the garden. For example, when the government uses the Patriot Act to prosecute deadbeat dads.

Either mistake destroys the garden. We are currently making both.

The Hildebeest hitches her wagon to Champ's Iran deal
[PJ Media] Hillary Clinton issued a lengthy statement tonight not only giving props to the Iran nuclear deal but also basically taking credit for it.

"I am still studying the details, but based on the briefings I received and a review of the documents, I support the agreement because it can help us prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. With vigorous enforcement, unyielding verification, and swift consequences for any violations, this agreement can make the United States, Israel, and our Arab partners safer," Clinton said.

"...Today's agreement is the culmination of a sustained strategy of pressure and engagement executed over many years. As secretary of State, I logged tens of thousands of miles and twisted a lot of arms to build a global coalition to impose the most crippling sanctions in history. That unprecedented pressure delivered a blow to Iran's economy and gave us leverage at the negotiating table, starting in Oman in 2012. I know from experience what it took to build a global effort to get this done; I know what it will take to rally our partners to enforce it."

As president, Clinton said, she would "use every tool in our arsenal to compel rigorous Iranian compliance."

"We can never permit Iran to evade its obligations or to place any suspicious site off limits to inspectors," she said. "And the response to any cheating must be immediate and decisive -- starting with the return of sanctions but taking no options off the table, including, if necessary, our military options."

U.S. Police Officer 'Ambushed' in Missouri
[AnNahar] A bandana-wearing attacker "ambushed" and shot a police officer who was sitting in his car in the Missouri city of St Louis on Tuesday, officials said. The officer, 39, was struck in the torso but was saved by his bullet-proof vest, St Louis police chief Sam Dotson said.
Sounds like some shadowy groups wants more turmoil and controversy...
The attack comes nearly a year after heightened racial tensions in the region following the police shooting of unarmed black man Michael Brown in the St Louis suburb of Ferguson.

In December, two officers were shot and killed in New York by a man who said he wanted to kill police because he was angry about the deaths of Brown and another man, Eric Garner, who died after being put in a chokehold as he was incarcerated

for selling cigarettes.

In Tuesday's shooting, the off-duty officer -- who is black -- was sitting in his own car while working an approved second job as a security guard in a posh neighborhood filled with shops and restaurants.

The shooter was described as a black man aged 18-22.

A lone protester holding a sign reading "How Does It Feel?" went to the scene of the shooting and stood with his back to the yellow police tape.

"How does it feel to be met with same aggression you inflict on certain communities daily?" Dhoruba Shakur, 25, told the St Louis Post Dispatch.

The attack occurred shortly before 5:00 am, when the gunman got out of a car that had three other men in it. He had a black bandana over his face and immediately started shooting, Dotson said. The officer -- a 16-year veteran -- returned fire from his car and believes he may have hit the assailant, Dotson said.

"What we have is a sergeant of the St Louis police department, working in full uniform, who was ambushed, who was targeted by these individuals," Dotson said.

The officer was expected to be released from hospital later Tuesday.

One-Third of Veterans Awaiting VA Healthcare Already Dead, Report Says
[Free Bacon] According to a leaked internal document from the Department of Veterans Affairs, nearly one-third of veterans awaiting healthcare coverage at the VA have already died.

The April 2015 report, leaked to the Huffington Post by VA whistleblower Scott Davis, indicates that 238,657 of the 847,882 veterans waiting to be enrolled in VA healthcare are already dead, suggesting that over 28 percent of veterans applying for health coverage perished while waiting for it.

VA spokeswoman Walinda West played down the number, insisting that some of those listed as having "pending" status may well have not completed their applications for healthcare coverage and that the data could be decades old.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Kremlin: Putin likes the Iran deal
[Bus Insider] The Kremlin likes the Iran deal. In fact, Putin took some serious credit for it.

"The deal on Iran nuclear program is based on the approach articulated by President Vladimir Putin," the Russian Foreign Ministry tweeted on Tuesday.
A plan articulated by Putin and executed by Obama.
Putin added, in a statement released by the Kremlin, that the deal is means that its "bilateral relations with Iran will receive a new impetus and will no longer be influenced by external factors."

The world powers and Iran struck a landmark deal on Tuesday to curb Iran's nuclear program for at least 10 years in exchange for billions of dollars in relief from international sanctions.

It appears Russia is in a position to benefit both strategically and financially.
Yes, so it would appear.
"Russia is ... poised to benefit geopolitically from the nuclear accord, because Iran is likely to emerge from this process as a newly empowered state," Paul N. Schwartz, a nonresident senior associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, wrote in a paper back in June.

Iran and Russia are the primary supporters of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, which has been fighting largely Sunni uprising for more than 4 years, and both oppose many Saudi initiatives.

"In general, such an outcome would accrue to the benefit of Russia, which stands to gain the most from a newly empowered Iran able to more effectively pursue its Middle East agenda," Schwartz wrote.

Europe
IMF stuns Europe with call for massive Greek debt relief
BLUF: [Telegraph] The IMF said the Europeans will either have to offer a "deep upfront haircut" or slash the debt burden by stretching maturities and presumably by lowering interest costs.

"There would have to be a very dramatic extension with grace periods of, say, 30 years on the entire stock of European debt," it said.

Debt forgiveness alone would not be enough. There would also have to be "new assistance", and perhaps "explicit annual transfers to the Greek budget".
Europe "stunned" by socialism and IMF statist solutions ?

#1  So, surprises all around. The Greeks thought that they had voted that they weren't going to go along with the debt plans of the EU. The rest of the EU thought that they were going to get something out of the Greeks.

#2  Greece is boned. They'll never repay the debt. Give them more money to pay the debt and they'll fritter that away.

The Greeks have 2500 years experience avoiding the tax man. And they're as hooked on free stuff as anyone else.

Default them. You can't take anything tangible from them but default them, boot them out of the Euro, and make them reinstitute the drachma.

And don't lend them anymore of your money.

#6  If I owe the bank $1,000 I can't pay back - I have a problem.

If I owe the bank $1B I can't pay back - the *bank* then has a problem.

In this case the Bank decide to lend me another $1B in hopes I will use it to pay back the $1b I own them.

And of course everyone *else* knows that I'm just going to blow that $1B loan on drugs, hookers and booze.
Posted by: CrazyFool || 07/15/2015 12:20 Comments || Top||

#7  CF, the problem seems to be that too many "smart" people don't seem to understand the simple fact that if you give them $1B to pay back the $1B they borrowed in the first place, THEY STILL OWE YOU A BILLION EVEN IF THEY DO "PAY IT BACK".

Of course the real game is to make the billion disappear into the miasma of derivatives and inflation. In any case it's the middle class that gets screwed.

Asset owner is emotionally attached to the asset.

Had a Cave-astrola 10 inch light-weight (lol) reflector that cost me around $1200 fitted out in 1973. Way to much to deal with and not really transportable to dark areas. Over the course of years I was offered as much as $1500 for it. I just liked having it around the house, sort of like a trophy- gadget and it was one hell'uva conversation starter. Ended up giving it away. I can visit tho.

Conservative Leader: Planned Parenthood Is Just Like Notorious Auschwitz Doctor
[Daily Caller] Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center and chairman of ForAmerica, is calling on Congress to immediately cut funding for Planned Parenthood in light of video surfacing of the pro-abortion group selling baby parts.

"The horrific truth that the top doctor at Planned Parenthood sells the body parts of aborted babies compels Congress to recognize it has been funding a 21st century Josef Mengele," Bozell said in a Tuesday statement, comparing the organization to the murderous Nazi doctor stationed at Auschwitz.

"Anyone or either party who plays politics with this ghastly, inhuman behavior, or fails to exercise his/her responsibility to end taxpayer funding of it, should be condemned as participatory in it," the conservative leader continued.

Bozell believes that there is only one thing for leaders in Congress to do: "defund Planned Parenthood now."

Well, they do NOW.

What it sounds like to me is they "donate" their sacrifices to companies for "research purposes" -- and those companies sell the parts for profit.

Now -- how much do Planned Parenthood execs and killers have invested in those companies? How much have those companies donated to Democrats?

How much of the Democrat's devotion to slaughtering babies is just to maintain the cash flow?

#13  More and more I see abortion as human sacrifice. Obviously there truly are times is medically necessary, I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the ones that are essentially using it as birth control. This life is too much of an annoyance to you to raise or even give up for adoption, so instead they'll just have them killed.

For those whining about unwanted children, well maybe if there wasn't abortion for birth control, they might think more before they wind up in that position and there wouldn't be such a desire (Not need, because killing a human out of future possible annoyance and having to care for them isn't a need).

China police say they fatally shot 3 Uighur terror suspects
[Ynet] Police in northeastern China said Tuesday that they fatally shot three minority Moslem Uighurs in a confrontation with suspects they described as gunnies who were using knives to resist arrest.

Police also injured a fourth suspect during the incident Monday in Shenyang, the city police said in a statement on their microblog. A man who refused to identify himself at Shenyang police's criminal offenses office said the four were ethnic Uighurs.

A foreign-based front man for Uighurs said the people shot were among a group of Uighurs who were trying to flee China through its northern border.

Dozens Killed in Boko Haram Raids, New Military Team in Place
[AnNahar] Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
gunnies killed dozens of people in four villages in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
, slitting some residents' throats and opening fire on others, one resident and the police said on Tuesday.

The atrocities near Monguno in the northeastern state of Borno took the corpse count since Muhammau Buhari became president in late May to more than 625, according to an AFP count.

Buhari on Monday further signaled his intent to crush the six-year Islamist uprising by sacking the entire military high command that oversaw the Islamists' rise in strength last year.

The latest raids happened late last Friday but details have only just emerged because of poor to non-existent phone networks in the remote area.

On Monday, a jacket wallah went kaboom! in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, a day after the first suicide kaboom in northern Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
that killed at least 11.

In another sign of the rebels' threat to regional security, a suicide bomber disguised as a woman in a full-face veil went kaboom! in Chad's capital, N'Djamena, on Saturday, killing 15.

Sheriff Kulo, from Kilwa, said holy warrior fighters stormed his village late on Friday night, killing residents before stealing food and cattle then burning down homes.

"In Kilwa alone, they killed seven people, including the village head and left one seriously injured with a fracture on his leg," he added.

"They then proceeded to Gwollam, Misala and Magaram, where they did the same thing. In all they killed 43," he told AFP from Maiduguri, where he fled to raise the alarm.

"They opened fire on residents and in some cases they used knives to slaughter their victims."

There was no independent corroboration of his toll but the Borno state police commissioner, Aderemi Padokun, said: "From what we heard, the gunnies raided these villages.

"They rubbed out their victims and in some cases slit their throats. They also carted away foodstuffs and livestock.

"We don't have details of the actual number of people killed in the attack but I can confirm it happened."

Boko Haram mounted a similar raid on a nearby village in the Monguno area on July 1, killing 48 people.

Buhari's removal of the military top brass he inherited from his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan
... 14th President of Nigeria. He was Governor of Bayelsa State from 9 December 2005 to 28 May 2007, and was sworn in as Vice President on 29 May 2007. Jonathan is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). He is a lover of nifty hats, which makes him easily recognizable unless someone else in the room is wearing a neat chapeau...
, was expected but he indicated that his new team must deliver. The replacement officials, including a new chief of army staff and national security adviser both from Borno which has been worst affected by the violence, were chosen "on merit", he told them.

Retired army colonel Hassan Stan-Labo told Nigeria's Channels television he welcomed the changes at the top and called on Buhari to now overhaul military logistics and communications.

Lagos-based political analyst Jide Ogunlesi said the appointments indicated Buhari -- a former army general and military ruler -- "can pick a good team that can deliver". But he warned against politicizing the military in the way some alleged the former high command was during Jonathan's administration.

"Critics will be silenced when they see these officers perform," he told AFP. "I think their appointment will give a fillip and a stronger bite to the fight against terrorism and all forms of banditry."

Nigeria's military has been traditionally dominated by officers from the mainly Moslem north and Jonathan was accused of ignoring the insurgency because he was from the Christian-majority south. Some saw regional bias in the appointments with Buhari also a Moslem from the north, while others said the high command should be given time to be effective in their new positions.

Boko Haram's upsurge in attacks on civilians comes after a four-nation coalition of Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon pushed out the bandidos murderous Moslems from captured territory earlier this year. A new, strengthened force with African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
backing is expected to deploy by the end of the month.

General Says U.S. Does Not Support Kurdish Entity in Syria
[AnNahar] The United States does not support the establishment of an autonomous Kurdish entity in northern Syria, the U.S. special envoy for the coalition against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. Death Eaters said Tuesday.

Kurdish fighters have made gains in war-torn Syria against the Islamic State (IS) group, notably in land close to the border in the north with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, triggering concern in Ankara that the Kurds might attempt to establish their own state in Syria.

"We don't support, and I don't think the Kurds support in northern Syria, a separate governmental entity," said retired general John Allen.

"It is important that a partner that has ultimately been enabled to defeat Daesh (IS) does not become an occupying force," Allen told a Washington think tank.

Turkey has fought a 31-year insurgency in its southeast by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which Ankara claims is closely linked to the main Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) militia.

Allen also admitted that some of Washington's allies in the war with IS would be unnerved by Tuesday's nuclear deal between the West and Iran.

"For many of the members of the coalition, Iran has been, is and probably will remain one of the principal sources of threat to their national security," he said.

"I won't speculate on the outcome of the announcement made this morning with respect to whether it will fundamentally change Iran's behavior, but it's of course a very important question for all" coalition members, Allen said.

US-led coalition launches 29 airstrikes as Iraqi forces advance in Anbar

in the city of Ramadi in Anbar province.

The Anbar provincial council has also reported some areas in Anbar were retaken from ISIS by pro-government forces.

In a statement, US-led coalition forces reported that over the past two days 29 Arclight airstrikes have been launched near Ramadi to target 67 ISIS bases, and several ISIS combat vehicles were destroyed.

Iraqi forces issued a statement Monday saying there had been operations to recapture some areas of Anbar with the cooperation of special forces, Iraqi police and Hashd al-Shaabi Shiite militias.

Eid Amash, a representative of the Anbar provincial council, said areas near Fallujah like Karma and Saqlawiyah had been recaptured, and the anti-ISIS forces were trying to prevent civilian casualties.

Amash added ISIS fighters killed a number of civilians who tried to escape. The Iraqi army has opened safe corridors for citizens to be able to leave the areas where there is fierce fighting.

Afghanistan
Faryab Security Deteriorates, Villages Fall
[Tolo News] The Taliban turbans are reportedly making advances in northwestern Faryab province as the turbans have seized control of about 100 villages, local officials said on Tuesday.

Khairullah Qarayee, a resident of Faryab and the commander of uprising group against Taliban, told TOLOnews that two important strategic military areas have been collapsed in the last two days.

"Nine people who were fighting the Taliban have been maimed in the festivities while six others have been taken hostage," Qarayee said.
About 10 other civilians were still missing, he added.

His comments came after a politician from Faryab, Naqibullah Faiq, said in social media that at least 30 Afghan local coppers had been killed and maimed in the Faryab battle.

He warned if government failed to support local forces, the whole province would likely collapse. But the military officials say they have been supporting locals that have risen against the Taliban.

"So far, 73 turbans have been killed and injured since Monday's battle. The Air Force is helping the locals who are battling the Taliban," said Reza, a military front man in the North.

Earlier this week, the Interior Minister Noor-ul-haq Olomi visited Faryab where he promised to not let the province's situation become like Kunduz.

This year, the Taliban turbans had been significantly engaged in fighting the Afghan forces. A number of districts and scores of villages fell to the Taliban since the group began its summer offensive earlier in April.

Greek PM Tspiras faces party revolt over bailout deal
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Greece's leftwing Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras faces a showdown with rebels in his own party on Tuesday furious at his capitulation to German demands for one of the most sweeping austerity packages ever demanded of a euro zone government.

Just hours after a deal that saw Greece surrender much of its illusory sovereignty to outside supervision in return for agreeing to talks on an 86 billion euro ($95 billion) bailout, doubts were already emerging about whether Tsipras would be able to hold his government together.

The terms imposed by international lenders led by Germany in all-night talks at an emergency summit obliged Tsipras to abandon promises of ending austerity.

Instead he must pass legislation to cut pensions, increase value added tax, clamp down on collective bargaining agreements and put in place quasi-automatic spending constraints. In addition, he must set 50 billion euros of public sector assets aside to be sold off under the supervision of foreign lenders and get the whole package through parliament by Wednesday.

Beating death of 13-year-old boy by mob sparks protests across Bangladesh
[TORONTOSUN] The gang beating death of a 13-year-old boy accused of trying to steal a rickshaw has launched protests across Bangladesh.

The group of men who attacked Samiul Alam Rajon filmed their sickening assault and posted it on social media, where it went viral in the country.

The video reportedly shows the men brutally beating and torturing the boy as he begs for his life, laughing and taunting him as he screams and cries. Stills from the 28-minute video, which are still circulating in local media, show a terrified Rajon cringing, at times tied to a fence.

At one point, the attackers apparently tell him to walk away. When he tries, another shouts: "His bones are OK. Beat him some more."

An autopsy found 64 serious injuries on the boy's body, which was disposed in a nearby dump after the beating, police told media.

Illegal Immigrant Who Killed Chandra Levy May Be Released
[BREITBART] Attorneys for Ingmar Guandique, an undocumented Democrat from El Salvador who murdered Washington intern Chandra Levy in 2001, will likely ask for Guandique to be released from jail while he awaits a retrial of his 2010 conviction. A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.

Gunadique's attorneys requested a new trial, asserting that evidence from a key witness against Guandique was false or misleading and claiming that a new trial would serve the "interests of justice." In May, prosecutors agreed to a new trial despite the fact that they thought that Guandique's conviction was justified. In June, a judge ruled that a new trial could be held; it is scheduled for 2016.

The Levy case created a national sensation. Congressman Gary A. Condit, who was having an affair with Levy, 24, was initially suspected of her murder, but he was cleared. It took a year after the murder for Levy's remains to be discovered.

Because of the lack of forensic evidence linking Guandique to the murder, he was not convicted until a former cellmate revealed Guandique's confession in 2006. Guandique confessed he was high on drugs in Rock Creek Park when he saw Levy wearing a waist pouch, so he robbed her. Guandique told the cellmate, "You don't understand. . . . Homeboy, I killed the [expletive], but I didn't rape her."

In a plea-bargain agreement that sealed a court case lasting over four years, Abu Sisi pleaded guilty to five counts which included membership of a bad boy organization and building and modifying missiles used against Israel.

JJ strikes again-released more than 30,000 criminal illegal immigrants

But Johnson resisted, telling the House Judiciary Committee that forcing local authorities to comply with federal requests to detain an undocumented Democrat for deportation would be a "huge setback."

He said roughly 12,000 federal detainer requests last year were ignored, but the B.O. regime remains committed to a new program in which federal officials ask local authorities for assurance that requests will be honored.

Leaked U.S. Files: Israel Assassinated Top Syrian General
[Naharnet] Israel is responsible for the 2008 murder of a top security aide of Syrian President Bashar Assad, according to secret U.S. intelligence files.

Brigadier General Mohammed Sleiman was shot in the head and neck on August 1, 2008 by a small team of Israeli commandos as he enjoyed a dinner party at his luxury seaside home on the Syrian coast, said The Intercept website, citing the leaked files.

The Israeli military team then escaped by sea.

"The internal National Security Agency document, provided by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, is the first official confirmation that the assassination of Sleiman was an Israeli military operation," said the website.

The revelation "ends speculation that an internal dispute within the Syrian government led to his death," it added.

The NSA's internal version of Wikipedia, "Intellipedia," described the assassination near the port town of Tartus as the "first known instance of Israel targeting a legitimate government official," according to The Intercept.
What was legitimate about him?
It cited three former U.S. intelligence officers as saying that the document's classification markings indicated that the NSA learned of the assassination through surveillance.

In 2010, U.S. diplomatic cables leaked by WikiLeaks and published by the Guardian newspaper said that Syria suspected Israel of the murder.

The killing of Sleiman was kept secret initially by Syrian authorities and the Israeli government denied involvement.
The Syrians were obviously awaiting confirmation from Intellipedia.
His assassination came 11 months after an Israeli air strike deep inside Syrian territory destroyed a shadowy facility that may have been one of the special projects that Sleiman managed.
'Intellipedia' is a U.S. Government, intelligence community (IC) collaboration tool blog used by analysts and the idle & curious [see the link]. It is not the private domain of NSA. My heartburn with Intellipedia is anyone with access can post opinions, unfinished intelligence, and whatever they please without peer review, command or agency approval for dissemination. As such, it's a perfect venue for leaks, violations of the 'need to know,' unauthorized release of 'sources and methods,' misinformation, slander, and bullshit. Other than that, I've no problem with it.

Netroots Nation Organizers Ask Conference Attendees Not to Rape People
[FREEBEACON] Attendees of a major conference of left-wing activists this week are being asked not to rape other attendees, according to conference materials posted online.

"We want our attendees to have a great time, but please remember that sexual consent is always essential," advises a program handed out to attendees of the 2015 Netroots Nation conference.

The conference, which will kick off in Phoenix, Ariz., this week, features some of the nation's leading Democratic politicians and liberal activists.

The note about sexual consent appears in a portion of the program advising attendees of the conference's "safe space policy."

"Alcohol use is never an excuse to disrespect, harass or harm others, and someone who is intoxicated may not be able to give their consent," organizers noted.

Stampede kills 27 during religious festival in India
[ARABNEWS] A stampede on the banks of a river killed at least 27 people Tuesday in southern India in a tragic beginning to a Hindu festival season.

Prime Minster Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter that he was "deeply pained at the loss of lives" and offered condolences to the families of victims.

The stampede in Rajahmundry, on the border of the twin states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, erupted about two hours after the dawn start of the Maha Pushkaralu festival.

"Twenty-seven people have now been confirmed dead in the stampede and another 29 are injured," Parakala Prabhakar, a front man for Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, told AFP.

District official H. Arun Kumar put the number of injured at 40 while confirming that 27 people had died.

While the identities of all the victims had yet to become clear, police and other officials said most of the victims were women and included a 15-year-old girl.

Images broadcast on television showed tearful relatives grieving over lines of bodies on the river bank.

Rescuers wearing life jackets could also be seen trying to haul lifeless bodies into their inflatable rafts which were patrolling the river.

A. Srinivasan Rao, a deputy superintendent of police in Andhra Pradesh, said the disaster happened when crowds built up around one set of steps leading to the water, known as ghats.

Dem Judge Orders Psych Counseling For D'Souza
[WND] At a hearing Monday in Manhattan in which he ruled filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza must continue community service for four more years, U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman said he considers D'Souza's violation of federal campaign-finance laws to be evidence of a psychological problem and ordered further counseling.

D'Souza's defense counsel Benjamin Brafman provided evidence to the court that the psychiatrist D'Souza was ordered to see found no indication of depression or reason for medication. In addition, the psychologist D'Souza subsequently consulted provided a written statement concluding there was no need to continue the consultation, because D'Souza was psychologically normal and well adjusted.

But Judge Berman, who was appointed by Bill Clinton
...former Democratic president of the U.S. Bill was the second U.S. president to be impeached, the first to deny that oral sex was sex, the first to have difficulty with the definition of is...
, disagreed, effectively overruling the judgment of the two licensed psychological counselors the U.S. probation department had approved as part of D'Souza's criminal sentence.

"I only insisted on psychological counseling as part of Mr. D'Souza's sentence because I wanted to be helpful," the judge explained. "I am requiring Mr. D'Souza to see a new psychological counselor and to continue the weekly psychological consultation not as part of his punishment or to be retributive.

IS presence cannot be ignored, says KP police chief
[DAWN] Inspector General of Police Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
(KP) Nasir Khan Durrani said on Tuesday said presence of the self-styled Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. cannot be ignored in KP.

"It is wrong to say IS does not have a presence in KP," said Durrani.

"IS's presence in Pakistain is not a new a phenomenon, members who belonged to the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) have switched sides in some cases," said the top police official of KP.

But Durrani assured that the situation was under control.

"Frequency of terrorist attacks has witnessed a noticeable drop in comparison to the last four years, which is due to concentrated efforts by the army and law enforcement agencies," said Durrani.

Earlier this month, KP police had placed in durance vile
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
three suspected murderous Moslems said to be inspired by IS. The raid was conducted while acting on an intelligence tip-off.

Iraqi Forces Pounding ISIL around Ramadi
[ALMANAR.LB] Iraq's army and allied paramilitaries attacked ISIL terrorist group positions around Ramadi Tuesday in their latest push to recapture the Anbar capital from the jihadists, commanders said.

The authorities announced a major offensive to "liberate Anbar" on Monday.

"The Iraqi army and the Hashed al-Shaabi are pounding ISIL positions with rockets and mortar rounds east, west and south of Ramadi," a senior army officer said.

Ramadi is the capital of Anbar, a province which is largely under ISIL control. It is traversed by the Euphrates and stretches from the borders with Syria, Jordan and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
to the outskirts of Baghdad.

Iraqi forces had resisted ISIL attacks for almost a year and half when they retreated in the face of a spectacular onslaught in mid-May.

Operations have been on ongoing across Anbar for months, and Iraqi forces have recently attempted to sever ISIL supply lines by moving in from provinces, including Salaheddin to the northeast.

Officers said advances achieved on Monday would further isolate Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
which lies about half way between Ramadi and Baghdad, and allow anti-ISIL forces to better organize supplies and reinforcements.

"Large-scale public events such as this summit can also be a target for terrorists. US citizens should maintain a high level of security awareness."

The US embassy in Nairobi, in its previous warning last issued in May, said its citizens should be "aware of continuing and recently heightened threats from terrorism and the high rate of violent crime in some areas."

Razakar leader Forkan's verdict tomorrow
[Dhaka Tribune] The International Crimes Tribunal 2 is set to deliver verdict in the war crimes case against razakar leader Forkan Mallik from Mirzaganj of Patuakhali tomorrow.

The three-member tribunal headed by its Chairman Justice Obaidul Hassan set the date yesterday, nearly a month after the end of argument sessions.

The 63-year-old razakar commander is facing five charges of crimes against humanity he had committed during the 1971 Liberation War in Mirzaganj upazila. The charges include murder, rape, abduction and forced conversion.

The case was kept for verdict on June 14.

Fourteen prosecution witnesses testified at the tribunal while four gave depositions in favour of the accused. He was indicted on December 18 last year.

According to the first charge, razakars led by Forkan and the Pak Army members held Hafiz Uddin Khalifa and Awami League leader Abdul Kader Jomader on August 12, 1971. They were kept confined and later killed.

The same day, the collaborators held Dr Debendra Nath Sarker from his house and shot him dead. Forkan bayoneted Bibha Rani Nath to death when she attempted to save her husband.

Forkan is also charged with forceful conversion of Ramani Kundu, Shyam Sundar Kundu and Sunil Kundu -- three brothers from Subidkhali Bazar under Mirzaganj -- on August 15 at a razakar camp.

On August 17, Forkan and his accomplices held Golapi Rani Saha from the house of Ram Krishna Saha at Subidkhali and raped her at a place named Jugibari. The razakars then abandoned the woman in unconscious condition near her house. She died the following day.

Forkan and his associates in the razakar force raped two women after abduction from the house of Lalit Karmakar at Subidkhali on August 20. The victims were left in front of the house the next day. The family was later forced to leave the village for India.

The accused rubbed out Hatem Ali at Kakarbunia and detained his daughter Aleya Begum on August 22. She was raped repeatedly at Patuakhali Circuit House. Forkan, his cohorts and the Pak Army also killed Sanad Jumar Halder and Elemuddin the same day.

Talking to media personnel after presiding over a literary reference in memory of legendary novelist Abdullah Hussain, Rashid said the MQM chief never used profane language for British authorities even though they had involved him in multiple investigations.

"For using abusive language against state institutions, Altaf should tender an apology and admit that his Sunday's speech was written by Anwer Bhai -- a man with an unstable mental condition," said Rashid.

leaders were killed in an air strike in northeastern Syria on Monday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

The Observatory, which gathers its information from an activist network on the ground, identified the leaders as an Iraqi, Abu Osama al-Iraqi, and a Syrian named Amer al-Rafdan.

The Observatory said the air strike was believed to have been carried out by the U.S.-led coalition that is targeting Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, though Rami Abdulrahman, who runs the Observatory, said he could not be sure.

Abdulrahman said al-Iraqi had the title of "governor" of the province Islamic State had declared in northeastern Syria. Rafdan had previously served as Islamic State's governor of Deir al-Zor province, he said.

El-Sisi says Al-Azhar has failed to renew Islamic discourse
The barest hint of an iron fist within the velvet glove?
[AlAhram] The Egyptian president has called for a renewal of Islamic discourse to challenge extremism

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has accused Al-Azhar's Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb and other holy mans of failing to develop Egypt's religious discourse.

"You are the one responsible for religious discourse, and God will ask me whether I am satisfied [with your performance] or not," El-Sisi said of El-Tayeb on Tuesday.

"The role of holy mans is not to give speeches in mosques, but to spread peace among humanity," El-Sisi added.

"At last year's ceremony, when I tackled the idea of a religious revolution, I didn't mean imposing [change through] violent actions, rather I meant to revolutionise our thoughts in order to make them to fit the time and also to improve the image of Islam."

"The main problem is that we don't understand our religion ," he said. "And we cannot accept those people who misuse Islam to promote violence and extremism."

In January, El-Sisi said during the World Economic Forum held in Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
that Islamic tolerance was not clear to the world because of terrorism.

"We should stop and change our religious rhetoric from faulty ideas which lead to (terrorism)," El-Sisi said, adding that this could only be achieved by scholars from Al-Azhar, the highest institute of Sunni Islamic learning.

"This has nothing to do with creed. No one will touch the pillars of Islam," he said.

Al-Azhar has been criticised for failing to combat the growth of Islamic extremism and atheism in Egyptian society.

El-Sisi made the comments at the annual ceremony of Leilat Al- Qadr, which takes place during the last ten days of Ramadan.

Ukrainian security forces detain four in Mukachevo shooting

A total of four unidentified men were detained in the last 48 hours by elements of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU), according to Russian language news accounts.

According to data supplied by Chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Gritsak, SBU units since last Saturday have conducted 40 raids, seizing a number of weapons and other material for investigative purposes.

The arrests come from the July 11th shootout in Mukachevo in western Ukraine, when four unidentified individuals were shot to death and another 11 were wounded in a confrontation among local gangs, police and a group of Right Sector, the political group formed in the wake of the Maidan coup in 2013. Right Sector members form the core of several volunteer military units currently fighting against Russian supplied separatists in southeastern Ukraine. Right Sector members have a reputation among ethnic Russians in the region as a hostile and violent force that drives the civil war in Ukraine.

Two of the detainees surrendered voluntarily, according to a statement released by Right Sector, in order to provide police with information on the shootout. Two others were detained after they sought medical attention for wounds they likely sustained in the shootout.

At the moment Ukrainian national security forces and units of the Ukrainian national guard have surrounded at least 12 of the remnants of the group said to have been involved in the shootout. They are in Bobovische, a tiny village about 10 kilometers west of Mukachevo. An SBU spokeswoman identified as Elena Gitlyanskaya, said that the "partizans", her words, holed up near Mukachevo are all local to the region around Mukachevo.

The causes of the shootout vary, depending on who you ask. Right Sector members said that the sports bar was being used as a recruitment center for rebels Right Sector members are fighting in Donetsk and Lugansk oblasts, while police say the shootout was a local beef over smuggling routes used by Right Sector groups and local organized crime group for products such as untaxed liquor and tobacco. Those products are smuggled into Donetsk through Volkhonavka for local organized crime groups operating inside Donetsk.

Rebel officials have routinely refused to acknowledge Donetsk has an organized crime problem, yet several Ukrainian reports have emerged since last spring of shootouts there between rebel security forces and criminal groups.

Right Sector claims to have about 18 reserve battalions throughout Ukraine, and two in active combat in Donetsk and Lugansk. An undisclosed number of other battalions manned by Right Sector members have been folded into the Ukrainian military. Most of the reserve battalions are at considerably less than full strength.

Peshmerga official: ISIS who surrender to Peshmerga will be paroled
[RUDAW.NET] A Peshmerga official said Monday that the Peshmerga Ministry has ordered the release of any ISIS myrmidon who surrenders to the Peshmerga, but they will remain on parole.
It's a catch-and-release program.
"After we realized they are not involved in committing crimes we freed two ISIS gunnies on bail," said Sheikh Jaffar Mustafa, a commander at the Peshmerga Ministry.

"With the help of the people of Sunni areas, ISIS was strong, but after they turned their back on them and the Peshmerga resistance against the group developed, reclaiming thousands of kilometers of Kurdish territory, ISIS lost its morale against the Peshmerga," said Mustafa.

"ISIS has lost the support of local Arabs in their controlled areas and their gunnies are fleeing to the Peshmerga to surrender," he added.

Over the last few months, hundreds of ISIS gunnies have come to the Peshmerga front lines to surrender through mediation, and "any ISIS myrmidon who surrenders to the Peshmerga will be treated as a captive and with respect if it is proved they are not charged with crimes," he continued.

, and an estimated 500 Kurds are fighting alongside the group's holy warriors.

A member of the Kurdistan Parliament's Peshmerga Affairs Committee told Rudaw the committee had learned ISIS myrmidons--especially local Arabs forced to take up arms--were increasingly surrendering to Peshmerga.

"We have called on the courts to deal with the ISIS captives according to international principles and the terror law in the Kurdistan region," said Qadir Rezgai, a member of the committee.

However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
speaking to Rudaw on the phone, Jabar Yawar, chief of staff of the Ministry of Peshmerga, said he was unaware of any ISIS gunnies surrendering to the Peshmerga en masse.

The Kurdistan Parliament issued its anti-terror law in 2006, stating that joining any holy warrior organization and gangs intimidating people will be considered a terror act.

The Parliament identified the reasons for enacting such a law: "The emergence of terrorism as a dangerous international phenomenon which targets specifically the civilian population, jeopardizes the public security, causes instability in society and damages the environment as well as public and private property."

UN delivers health supplies to Aden; Houthis lose airport
[ARABNEWS] The UN said on Tuesday it had delivered medical supplies to the southern Yemeni city of Aden, where fighting has badly disrupted health provision, but that food rations had been delayed.

The World Health Organization brought 46.4 tons of assistance including trauma kits, medicines to treat malaria and diarrheal diseases, and water and sanitation supplies for more than 84,000 people.

"It took us days and days and days to organize the safe passage ... But it did arrive in Aden last Saturday. It was the first time that we got a convoy into Aden for weeks," Johannes Van Der Klaauw, the UN humanitarian coordinator for Yemen, told a news briefing.

The UN convoy was to have included rations from the World Food Program "but the WFP trucks in the end were disconnected from that convoy" he said without elaborating.

Hunger and disease are threatening the 1 million residents of Aden, now a war zone caught between local faceless myrmidons and Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...

UN Secretary-General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
is "very much disappointed" that a UN-brokered humanitarian pause in fighting did not take hold over the weekend, his front man said on Monday.

Van Der Klaauw said that the UN wanted to have aid ships dock in Aden. "But since the pause didn't take place, we still have a big problem that Aden is not reachable by sea. And it should be."

As vessels are diverted to the northern port of Hodeida, goods have to be taken by land to Aden and there is a perception "that vessels have only gone into that part of Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
which is in the hands of the de facto Houthi authorities."

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, a little lightbulb figuratively appeared over Bossy's head...
Yemeni forces battling the Iranian catspaws in the country's south say they have taken control of the airport in Aden and that they have driven the rebels into a part of the city jutting out into the sea.

The advance is a major blow for the Houthis, basically trapping them on the small peninsula.

Ali Al-Ahmadi, the front man for the city's anti-rebel forces known as Aden Resistance Leadership Council, says the operation was coordinated with the Saudi-led coalition.

Also on Tuesday, the Saudi-led coalition carried out Arclight airstrikes in Sanaa.

militia fighters on Tuesday, in a sudden advance after months of stalemate, the exiled government said.

... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...

" in an apparent admission of the militia's retreat.

Photographs on southern Yemeni media, which Rooters could not immediately verify, appeared to show a column of armored vehicles advancing along a street in Aden, where the fighting has mostly involved guerrilla fighters in civilian clothes.

The fighting followed the collapse of a humanitarian truce
..The purposes of a truce are twofold: 1.) bring up more arms, ammunition, and reinforcements; and 2.) get the enemy to relax his vigilance. A truce is not the same thing as a ceasefire, and a ceasefire doesn't mean you have to stop shooting...
brokered by the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
.

Local fighters aligned with exiled President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi took control of Aden's central district of Khormaksar, and aid sources reported fighting around the port area.

Backed by air support from a Saudi-led coalition, the forces launched a wide-ranging assault in Aden this week to reclaim territory held by the Iranian-allied Houthis.

"Aden International Airport and Khormaksar have been cleared of Houthi and Saleh elements by armed forces backing Yemen's legitimacy and the popular resistance forces, in coordination with and with direct support by the coalition," Yemeni government front man Rajeh Badi said.

He said he expected Aden to be cleared completely within the coming days.

A coalition of Arab states has been bombarding Houthi forces, Yemen's dominant power, since late March in a bid to reinstate Hadi. It has also run training programs for Yemeni soldiers loyal to Hadi and dropped arms to local forces fighting the Houthis.

Hadi was ousted from power when the Houthis took over the capital Sanaa in September. He then fled to Riyadh as Houthi forces closed in on Aden, where he had sought refuge.

A UN-brokered cease-fire to allow delivery of aid to a city desperately short of food, medicine and other necessities collapsed on Monday after Soddy Arabia

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
said it did not recognize the truce and continued air strikes.

"The fighting in Aden began in the morning as the forces approached Aden from different positions," said Ali Al-Ahmadi, front man for the Southern Popular Resistance, which is defending Aden from the Houthis.

"After violent festivities that continued for hours the forces were able to enter the airport and Badr base and they killed a large number of the militias."

The UN's World Health Organization managed to deliver medical supplies to Aden but it said food rations have been delayed.

#1  From everything I ever heard or read about it, the Civil War was a horrible, desperate, bitter struggle in which hundreds of thousands of people were killed or maimed. Property was destroyed, careers were ruined, lives were thrown into total disarray. It went on for what? Four or five years? Why do these people want to fight it all over again?

#4  All I see here is the dissolution of America. The history of this conflict is part of what made us. The children and g-children of the Civil War fought in WWI. Their children fought in WWII. Their g-children fought in v-nam and Korea. The purpose of this is simply to destroy and remake all that these people fought and died for into something that is not America. when is enough enough? Why the slow creep of anti-American thought and education growing? Simply put, good will tolerate evil, as it is in goods nature. Evil can not tolerate good, even at the most microscopic level because even an atom of good represents Hope and evil can not survive it. Americans are unique for two reasons from childhood they learn 2 things: there is always hope and you can make your future thru hard work. No other culture on the face of this earth or in history had these qualities. Evil can not stand it.

#16  This is from the comments on a similar story on Lucianne.com (I didn't check the cited laws mice elf):

By an act of Congress, these monuments are considered U.S. Veterans monuments and defacing or tearing them down are felonies!!! Confederate soldiers, sailors, and Marines who fought in the Civil war were made U.S. Veterans by an act of Congress in in 1957, U.S. Public Law 85-425, Sec 410, which was approved 23 May, 1958. This made all Confederate Veterans equal to U.S. Veterans.

Before that, under U.S. Public Law 810, Approved by the 17th Congress on 26 Feb 1929 the War Department was directed to erect headstones and recognize Confederate grave sites as U.S. War dead grave sites. Just for the record the last Confederate veteran died in 1958. So, in essence, when you remove a Confederate statue, monument or headstone, you are in fact, removing a statue, monument or head stone of a U.S. VETERAN.” (a felony)... So with that in mind... IF YOU DEFACE OR TEAR DOWN ANYTHING YOU SHOULD GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL AND DO NOT PASS GO and collect JACK and take all your Democratic cronies with you...

U.N. Syria envoy meets southern rebels and opposition armed groups
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] The United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
' Syria envoy met rebel leaders fighting in southern Syria for the first time on Tuesday, their front man said, underlining the growing political role of a group helping to contain jihadist influence in the south.

Staffan De Mistura also met representatives of other opposition gangs earlier this month, another source said. His spokeswoman confirmed both meetings took place but declined to comment on the substance.

The Southern Front alliance controls wide areas of the southern border zone near to Israel and Jordan after seizing important towns and military bases from Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

's control.

The alliance, which includes fighting groups that have received support from Western and Arab states opposed to Assad, has the upper hand in the area over jihadist movements such as the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front and Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. which dominate the insurgency elsewhere in Syria.

"We showed him our road map, our vision, how the Southern Front sees the transitional period without Assad," Southern Front front man Issam al-Rayyes told Rooters.

Rayyes said it was not the first time the U.N. envoy had asked to meet the Southern Front, but previous meetings had not taken place for logistical reasons.

When De Mistura began his wide-ranging consultations with dozens of interested parties in May, diplomats were skeptical that his effort to find common ground would bring Syria any closer to ending its four year civil war.

His efforts appeared to suffer an early blow two months ago when 33 opposition gangs rejected his invitation to come to Geneva to discuss the future of Syria.

But he met leaders of 11 of those gangs in Istanbul earlier this month, his second meeting with their representatives, a source familiar with the talks said.

"There are sufficient pragmatic voices among them who say we have to work with the U.N. at some stage," said the source, who declined to be named because of the sensitivity of the situation.

"They want some sort of guarantees that any political process that he undertakes would involve Bashir al-Assad stepping down. What was interesting was what De Mistura had to say - he focused a lot on the transitional governing body."

De Mistura is currently visiting Middle Eastern capitals and plans to finalize by the end of July "proposals on a way forward to support Syrian parties in their search for a political solution to the conflict", his office has said.

Syria's four-year civil war has killed close to a quarter of a million people and drive millions more from their homes in the worst global refugee crisis since World War Two.

3 Pakistanis among 29 charged over Kuwait suicide attack

[DAWN] Kuwait charged 29 people on Tuesday over the suicide kaboom of a Shia mosque last month, claimed by the self-styled Islamic State

group, that killed 26 people and maimed more than 200.

The attack, carried out by a Saudi, was the worst in Kuwait's history.

Those charged included seven Kuwaitis, five Saudis, three Paks, 13 stateless people known as bedouins, and another person on the lam, the prosecution said, cited by the official KUNA news agency.

Of those placed in durance vile
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!

.

The prosecution charged two of the suspects with premeditated murder and attempted murder. Two others were charged with training in the use of explosives, nine with assisting in committing the crime and the rest with knowing of the attack without informing the authorities.

An IS-affiliated group calling itself Najd Province grabbed credit for the bombing and also said it carried out suicide kabooms at two Shia mosques in Saudi Arabia earlier in May.

IS considers Shias to be heretics and has targeted them across the region.

On Monday, the Kuwaiti cabinet decided to set up a permanent committee to "fight against all forms of terrorism and extremism," and it will coordinate among various bodies in a bid to ensure security.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran deal heartens Syria's Assad, worries rebels
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Oppressor of the Syrians and the Lebs...
signaled on Tuesday he expected more support from his top regional ally Iran in the wake of a nuclear deal that includes Western states that have backed the insurgency against him.

Rebels fighting Assad expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
that the deal would expand Iranian influence in the region at their expense.

Iran has provided military and financial support to Assad in the four-year-long conflict that has become a focal point for Shi'ite Iran's power struggle with the conservative Sunni Moslem monarchy of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
.

Assad, in a telegram congratulating Iran's supreme leader on the deal agreed with major powers on Tuesday, called it "a major turning point" in the history of Iran and the world.

"We are confident that the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran will support, with greater drive, just causes of nations and work for peace and stability in the region and the world," Assad said to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to the text published by state news agency SANA.

Iranian military support for Assad has come in the form of its backing for the Lebanese political and guerrilla group Hezbollah, the deployment of Iranian military advisers, and the mobilization of Shi'ite fighters from elsewhere in the region.

A series of setbacks for Assad since late March triggered repeated statements of support from Iran. Assad ratified a new $1 billion credit line from Iran this month. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said last month Iran would back the Syrian nation and government "until the end of the road."

In a separate message to Rouhani, Assad said the coming days will would see momentum in the "constructive role" played by Iran in supporting "the rights of people".

Rebels fighting Assad say Iranian support has been crucial to his survival. "This agreement will make the region more dangerous," said Iyad Shamse, leader of a rebel group in northern Syria called the Asala and Tanmieh Front.

"Our fears from this agreement are an increase in Iranian influence in the region and this is what is making Assad happy," he told Rooters.

The front man for an alliance of rebel groups in southern Syria said Iran was backing Assad with "all its force" at present, and he was worried U.S. pressure would not be enough to stop Tehran from entering in the war.

"We are worried," he said.

... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
as Shiite Hashd al-Shaabi militias have launched an attack to liberate the city, an Iraqi military source said Tuesday.

"We'll take control of Fallujah very soon, the attack won't last long," said Ahmed al-Asadi, a spokesperson for the Hashd al-Shaabi. He added that after ISIS declared a state of emergency it forcibly took civilians to the front line.

According to Asadi, former Iraqi babus government employees inside Fallujah contacted the Hashd al-Shaabi and promised to help as they enter the town.

He also said that turbans of the terror group rigged mosques and houses with explosives.

Mali Forces Arrest Gunmen Linked to Terrorist Attacks
[ALMANAR.LB] The Malian army captured two people linked to Ansar Dine group (Arabic translation of "supporters of the religion") and seized evidence linking them to planned attacks, security sources said on Sunday.

Ansar Dine was part of an alliance of gunnies that helped seize Mali's desert north after a Tuareg uprising in 2012 but was ousted by a French military operation a year later.

The group this week grabbed credit for a series of recent attacks across Mali's south and west, including the capital Bamako, formerly deemed safe.

"An army patrol tossed in the slammer
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
two men in possession of military material and compromising documents," said one of the sources, adding that the men were captured in the central region of Mopti and taken to Bamako.

He said the documents contained a message from Ansar Dine's Tuareg leader Iyad Ag Ghali to an accomplice in the south about future attacks.

The southern accomplice has not yet been identified, he said, adding that others had been called in for questioning based on the intelligence gathered so far.

A second security source said a total of six people were tossed into the calaboose for questioning, including two women, part of a push to dismantle Ansar Dine's network.

Armed groups and the Malian government signed a peace agreement in June designed to stop uprisings in the north, but Ansar Dine was not part of it.

MB theory on peaceful and violent means
[AlAhram] Despite raising the banner of "peaceful means," the actual history of the MB proves that the group has always adopted violence as a fundamental strategy

After the people's revolution by masses of Egyptians from all walks of life on 30 June, supported by the Armed Forces, against religious fascism
...a political system developed in Italy symbolized by the Roman fasces -- thin reeds, each flimsy in itself but unbreakable when bound into a bundle. The word is nowadays thrown around by all sorts of people who have no idea what they're talking about...
in the form of Moslem Brüderbund (MB) rule, the leaders of the terrorist group and their followers carried out a series of violent attacks. But at the same time they raised the banner of "peaceful means". They interpret the violence they practice, whether through sabotage at universities or demonstrators shooting at security forces or blowing up power lines which hurts millions of citizens, as "peaceful" protest in response to the overthrow of the MB dictatorship and deposing President Mohammed Morsi.

Suicide bombers kill Syrian rebel figure in Idlib province
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Two jacket wallahs killed a prominent figure from the Islamist Death Eater group Ahrar al Sham when they blew up a local headquarters in Syria's northwestern Idlib province, rebel sources and a monitor said on Monday.

They said Sheikh Abu Abdul Rahman al Salqeeni was killed along with six others, including the bombers who detonated themselves shortly after entering the Death Eater groups' office in a village near the town of Salqeen, along the Turkish border.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which tracks violence across the country, said several others were maimed and at death's door. It said Abu Adul Rahman was a big shot in Ahrar al-Sham

Tunisia Says al-Qaeda Group almost Wiped out after Attacks
[ALMANAR.LB] Tunisia's interior minister said security forces had almost wiped out an gang linked to al Qaeda terrorist organization during a crackdown launched after two deadly attacks on tourists.

Clashes last week killed leaders, including two veteran Algerian fighters, from the Okba Ibn Nafaa brigade, blamed for an assault on the Bardo Museum in Tunis in March, minister Najem Gharselli told news hounds late on Sunday.

The North African country has come under growing international pressure to show it is in control of Lions of Islam after a gunman killed 38 holidaymakers at a beach hotel in Sousse last month, an attack claimed by the so-called 'Islamic State

group.

"After we killed some of their leaders in (the central region of) Gafsa a few days ago, we have now destroyed 90 percent of Okba Ibn Nafaa," the minister said.

Okba Ibn Nafaa, allied with Al Qaeda's north African wing, was among the most active of hard-line groups that emerged after Tunisia's 2011 "Arab Spring" uprising ousted President Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali.

Authorities say more than 3,000 Tunisians have left the country to fight for ISIL and other gangs on other battlefields. But the minister said the organization still had no significant presence in Tunisia.

"There are no ISIL groups with any structure in Tunisia, but that doesn't mean there are not some members who have allegiances with ISIL," he said.

ISIL have claimed both the Bardo and the Sousse beach resort attacks, though the government blames Okba and remnants of another local group, Ansar al Sharia, operating across the border in Libya.

The minister said 15 people had so far been tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
in connection with the Sousse attack, and security forces had broken up other sleeper cells planning other assaults.

"We have taken the security measures to better protect tourists and Tunisians, including the deployment of 100,000 police across the country," he said.

Britannia, which lost 30 nationals in the Sousse attack, told its tourists to leave the country last week, saying another attack was highly likely and more work was needed to protect tourists.

or Daesh back home. For long, the presence of the Death Eater group in this region was downplayed; many even dismissed it as a purely Middle Eastern phenomenon with little possibility of it making inroads outside that region.

But now the terrorist network has raised its monstrous face in this region, apparently driving out the Afghan Taliban from some of their strongholds in eastern Afghanistan. The IS advance makes the Afghan civil war more complex and brutal as the Taliban struggle to maintain unity in their own ranks. This lends greater importance to the Murree talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government to find a political solution to the crisis in Afghanistan.

The Death Eaters pledging allegiance to the Middle Eastern movement have now reportedly gained ground in at least three Afghan provinces marking an escalation in its power struggle with the Taliban. The black flag of IS has reportedly replaced the white ones of the Taliban in swathes of the area.

Mexico sacks prison chiefs over Guzman escape
[ARABNEWS] Mexico's government offered a $3.8 million reward for the capture of runaway drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman on Monday and sacked top prison officials amid suspicions that guards helped him escape.

Guzman vanished from his cell late Saturday even though he was wearing a monitoring bracelet and surveillance cameras were trained on the room 24 hours a day, Interior Minister Miguel Angel Osorio Chong said.

Osorio Chong said Guzman "must have counted on the complicity of prison personnel... which if confirmed would constitute an act of treason."

Guzman had been behind bars for just 17 months when he escaped for the second time since 2001, dealing a humiliating setback to President Enrique Pena Nieto and overshadowing a state visit to La Belle France.

This time, the head of the Sinaloa narco mob managed to flee a maximum-security prison some 90 kilometers (55 miles) west of Mexico City through a 1.5-kilometer tunnel found under his cell's shower.

"What happened two days ago is a terrible event that has angered Mexican society," Osorio Chong said.

While cameras were constantly trained on the cell, Osorio Chong said there were "two blind spots" to respect the inmate's privacy "and human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
," and he managed to remove the bracelet, which only worked inside the prison.

Osorio Chong said he decided to fire the Altiplano prison's director as well as the head of the nation's penitentiary system and general coordinator "to facilitate" the investigation.

Attorney General Arely Gomez said 34 prison officials and 17 inmates were interrogated by prosecutors. No charges have been announced so far.

A federal official said prison employees of various rank, including the warden, spent the night at the anti-organized crime unit of the attorney general's office.

Two of Guzman's lawyers were questioned and anyone who visited him during his incarceration is being sought.

The owner of the property where Guzman's tunnel ended also faced questioning.

The government has launched a massive manhunt for Guzman, who amassed a huge wealth as the head of the country's most powerful narco gang, with tentacles reaching around the globe.

Troops and police patrolled highways, borders and airports, while the governments of the United States and Central American neighbors were cooperating.

The US State Department said Guzman's "swift recapture by Mexican authorities is a priority for both the Mexican and the US governments."

Osorio Chong urged Mexicans to help authorities find Guzman. The reward offered by the government, 60 million pesos, is double what it usually gives for top drug lords.

#1  That which isn't inspected, isn't done. It goes all the way to the top (not just the prison chief). If they're such a hot inmate, everyone should be checking and rechecking. OR extradite them to the US. However, if you're not holding them, where's the graft?

Scarred by Islamist attacks, Kenya set to re-open Westgate mall
[REUTERS] Kenya's trendy Westgate shopping mall will reopen on Saturday, nearly two years after gunnies from the Somali bad boy group al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
massacred at least 67 people inside and held out for four days as security forces laid siege to the complex.

Once a totem of Kenya's growing prosperity, the Westgate building has since become symbolic of growing insecurity in the east African nation and President Uhuru Kenyatta's inability to prevent frequent Islamist attacks on Kenyan soil.

Images beamed across the world during the raid dented Kenya's image abroad and scared off tourists, hurting a vital sector of the economy. Kenya's embarrassment was compounded by Westgate security footage which showed soldiers looting the mall after the Somali snuffies were killed.

Evans Kidero, the Nairobi governor, said the September 2013 attack was "one of the saddest days in Kenyan history" but touted the re-opening of the mall as a triumph of national resilience in the face of bad boy attacks.

"They killed... our friends and relatives, but they did not kill our spirit," he told news hounds after touring the building where workmen were slapping on final licks of paint and staff were unfurling promotional banners.

Major Western brands, including Subway, KFC and Converse, plan to open stores in the new mall along with Kenyan companies such as Nakumatt, a high-end supermarket chain popular with well-heeled locals and expatriate workers.

Obama to Veto Any Congress Attempt to stop It: N-Deal Makes World Safer
[ALMANAR.LB] US President Barack Obama
Republicans can come along for the ride, but they've got to sit in the back...
declared Tuesday that the landmark nuclear deal with Iran is built on verification, not trust alone, and he threatened to veto any attempt by Congress to stop it.

"This deal demonstrates that American diplomacy can bring about real and meaningful change, change that makes our country and the world safer and more secure," he said in an early-morning statement from the White House.

He said that the United States had "negotiated from a position of strength and principle" and "stopped the spread of nuclear weapons in this region." Walking away from the deal, he said, could touch off a nuclear arms race in the most volatile region in the world.

"Put simply," the president said, "no deal means the chance of more war in the Middle East."

Foreign ministers from Iran and major powers have signed on Tuesday the final agreement regarding the nuclear program of the Islamic Theocratic Republic in a win-win deal for both sides.

#1  Uhhhh,

According to that annoying document the US Constitution, Congress must ratify any treaty with a foreign government.

So are they going to call this something other than a treaty as calling Obamacare a health care reform instead of a tax?
Posted by: Sock Puppet of Doom || 07/15/2015 0:19 Comments || Top||

#2  AND ratifying a treaty on an up or down vote cannot be vetoed...so if Congress votes the treaty down. Its dead. End of story.

Congress would be smart to vote to not ratify it and end the silliness there, any attempts to modify the agreement would merely create a food fight between Congress and the Executive branch.

Boehner and McConnel sold you down the river. Not enough of you listened with people were screaming out the truth about this. People like RINO Republicans who voted for it are to blame - Bob Corker and others - they provided the deciding votes to pass this.

#10  unfortunately, back in the 90s, the Korean-US Nuclear agreement was not considered a treaty

in fact there was no Vote in either the House or Senate in support of that deal (it is sometimes called the 'Agreed Framework')

thus, when Congress was trying to get some authority to stop the Iran agreement they were handicapped by this history

and btw, that Korean thing turned out badly
