Sen. Harry Reid Calls Benghazi Mother ‘Crazy'
Yesterday, Harry Reid met with the Reno Gazette-Journal editorial board. During the meeting, Reid attacked Patti Smith, the mother of Benghazi hero Sean Smith, calling the grieving mother "crazy" for her comments on Hillary Clinton.

Transcript:

Harry Reid: "For example at the national convention they had that poor Smith woman come out and say 'Hillary Clinton killed my son', how crazy!"
Well, we agree on one thing, Dingy Harry: If Hillary's actions or inactions killed her son, that would be unforgiveable.

Veteran Denied ER Service, Kills Himself in Parking Lot of Long Island V.A. Hospital
A death panel by any other name would kill just as well.
A 76-year-old veteran committed suicide on Sunday in the parking lot of the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center on Long Island, where he had been a patient, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Peter A. Kaisen, of Islip, was pronounced dead after he shot himself outside Building 92, the nursing home at the medical center.

The hospital is part of the Veterans Affairs medical system, the nation’s largest integrated health care organization, which has been under scrutiny since 2014, when the department confirmed that numerous patients had died awaiting treatment at a V.A. hospital in Phoenix. Officials there had tried to cover up long waiting times for 1,700 veterans seeking medical care. A study released by the Government Accountability Office in April indicated that the system had yet to fix its scheduling problems.

Why Mr. Kaisen decided to end his life was not immediately known, but two people connected to the hospital who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss his death said that he had been frustrated that he was unable to see an emergency-room physician for reasons related to his mental health. "He went to the E.R. and was denied service," one of the people, who currently works at the hospital, said. "And then he went to his car and shot himself."

The worker questioned why Mr. Kaisen had not been referred to the hospital’s Building 64, its mental health center. The staff member said that while there was normally no psychologist at the ready in the E.R., one was always on call, and that the mental health building was open "24/7."

"Someone dropped the ball," the worker said. "They should not have turned him away."

Christopher Goodman, a spokesman for the hospital, said that there "was no indication that he presented to the E.R. prior to the incident." It is unclear if any official record was made of a visit by Mr. Kaisen.

Mr. Goodman said "the employees here at Northport feel this loss deeply and extend their thoughts and prayers to all those impacted by this tragedy."

Mr. Kaisen’s family declined to comment.

Lt. Kevin Beyrer, a Suffolk County detective, said that the F.B.I. was carrying out the investigation into Mr. Kaisen’s death because it had occurred on federal property. He said that the V.A. police had called the county police on Sunday at 12:32 p.m. and that it appeared that Mr. Kaisen had been alone at the time of his death.

The Northport hospital has been under scrutiny for mismanagement and poor care since The New York Times reported in May that it had closed all five of its operating rooms for months after sand-size black particles began falling from air ducts. The office of Representative Lee Zeldin, a Republican whose First Congressional District includes Northport, had been looking into the allegations, Eric Amidon, Mr. Zeldin’s chief of staff, said in an email to The Times in June.

Jennifer DiSiena, Mr. Zeldin’s communications director, said on Wednesday that his office was trying to confirm the details of Mr. Kaisen’s death and "piece everything together."

The Grand Turk
RT: Erdogan Wants To Be ‘Sultan Of Islamic State,' Former Model-Turned-Fighter Tells RT

Some interesting perspectives and tidbits here.
Former Canadian model Hanna Bohman gave up a glamorous life of photo shoots to join Kurdish troops in their fight Islamic State in Syria. She told RT that the biggest problem is Turkey supporting the terrorists.

"Turkey supports ISIS [IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL]. We know it firsthand. It doesn't seem to get a lot of press coverage in the West -- and it's a shame because it's better to deal with the problem now than wait until it gets big and almost out of control in the future," Bohman, 47, also known as Tiger Sun, told RT.

"Right now the biggest problem isn't so much as ISIS, it's Turkey supporting ISIS", she noted, adding that "Erdogan wants to create an Islamic state - he wants to be the sultan."

Kurdish fighters forced 'to deal with the problem the West has created'

"The worst thing isn't what everyone assumes -- the killing and the dead bodies. The worst thing is seeing the Kurdish soldiers. They're young -- 17, 18, 19. They're kids. They are giving their whole lives for this. It's not like a volunteer going to another country to fight. They are volunteering in their own country. So they really don't have a choice. They either fight or they end up getting killed anyways. At least they die fighting instead of dying hiding," Bohman stressed.

"It's incredibly unfair that they have to deal with the problem that the West created."

Bohman joined the Kurdish troops battling IS in Syria in March last year and stayed with them for four months. She said there were as many as 300 other volunteers -- from South America, Europe, Russia, China and Australia. Joining the Kurdish fighters wasn't difficult, she said.

"I tried to make contact through a Facebook page, they gave me instructions, told me how to get there to avoid Turkey, which city to go to, and things like that."

Governments doing nothing to stop ISIS killing the Yazidis

The former model told RT why she decided to go and fight Islamic State.

"It was just an anger with ISIS and the politics being played with people's lives. I was watching on the news as they were killing the Yazidis in Chingal and things like that, and our governments weren't doing anything to stop it. It was really the primary motivation for me to go there."

Islamic State militants have committed numerous acts of genocide against the Yazidis, a Kurdish minority in Iraq, in a campaign they believe will "purify" the territory from non-Islamic influences.

Jihadists on the rampage in Syria and Iraq have kidnapped thousands of women and young girls, committing numerous atrocities, including sexual abuse and forced conversion to Islam to marry jihadist fighters.

Growing up in a society where it's inconceivable for women to fight alongside men, Kurdish YPJ female forces have been left with no choice other than to engage in a do-or-die battle against Islamic State.

"For IS militants being killed by a woman means going to hell," one 16-year-old fighter, Chichek, who ran away from home in Turkey to join the YPJ after her parents tried to force her into an arranged marriage, told RT. "That's why they avoid women's bullets," she added. "When IS militants hear female voices they get very scared."

Speaking about the progress achieved by the US-led anti-terror coalition, Bohman said that along with fighting Islamic State, Washington should also offer "political" support and protection to the Kurds.

"To be more helpful they [the US] have to be more helpful politically for the Kurds to recognize Rojava and to give them support to help build that country up and to succeed so that is not continually attacked by someone else," she said.

'As long as there's internet, ISIS ideology can spread'

According to Bohman, it shouldn't take more than a year to defeat IS in Syria. The real challenge is to stop the terrorists' ideology from spreading across the world, she said.

"The physical ISIS in Syria won't take that much longer," Bohman told RT. "I'm sure by the end of the year it will be little pockets here and there. Ideologically, that's going to take a lot longer," she said pointing out that to defeat them entirely, a joint effort is needed "from everyone else in the world," not just the Kurds.

"Clearly, as long as there is the internet, as long as the ideology can spread over the internet, there's going to be other ISIS groups opening up in other countries and causing problems there," she said.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
RT: Russian ‘Traitor' Who Exposed Anna Chapman's Spy Ring Dead In US
If nothing else, we can take the opportunity to see what Anna looks like these days.
Russian intelligence officer, Aleksandr Poteyev, who was sentenced for treason in absentia by Russia after blowing the cover of a spy ring in the US, has reportedly died. Moscow, however, is not confirming the news or taking the defector of its wanted list.

"According to some information, Poteyev has died in the US. This data is currently being verified," an informed source told Interfax early Thursday.

Another source confirmed that the news of Poteev's death has reached Moscow, but stressed that "it could well be disinformation aimed at ensuring that the traitor would simply be forgotten."

In 2010, intelligence service colonel Aleksandr Poteyev blew the cover of a group of Russian sleeper agents working in the US.

Back then, ten people were detained by the American authorities, including red-headed femme-fatale Anna Chapman, who launched a successful television career after her involvement in the spy scandal.

The detained Russians were later exchanged for four US citizens accused of espionage by Moscow.

Poteyev and his family were able to flee to the US, with the defector later sentenced in absentia by a Russian court to 25 years behind bars for treason.

Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service stressed that "it's not commenting on reports" of the defector's possible demise.

However, Poteyev will not be removed from the international wanted list despite news of his death, Interfax said, citing an unnamed source.

"Without receiving the official documents confirming his death, he is listed as living and, accordingly, can't be removed from the international search," he said.

Russia's presidential spokesman Dmitry Preskov said that the Kremlin is not concerned by Poteyev's fate.

"It's not an issue for the President and not an issue for the Kremlin," Peskov told the journalists.

According to the spokesman, Moscow also sees no danger of an information campaign launched against it over the death of the defector.

"It's obvious that he's a traitor, but in this case we don't see [any threat]," Peskov said.

The former head of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) Nikolay Kovalev warned that speculation over Poteyev's death may explode.

"There may be conspiracy theories that its 'the long arm of the secret services' that is responsible.' It's now a trend to see Russia behind every event," Kovalev told RIA Novosti.

The ex-FSB head suggested waiting until an official confirmation of the reasons for Poteyev's death by the US side.

"I think an autopsy should certainly be performed and official cause of death announced," he said.

"But I'm still inclined to think that the death was caused by a constant stress; an aggravation of all diseases -- and as a result, the lethal outcome. This is the fate of all traitors," Kovalev stressed.
Surely.

#4  Russian Fem Spy Spooked US, But It Wasn't Anna Chapman

We were becoming very concerned they were getting close enough to a sitting U.S. cabinet member that we thought we could no longer allow this to continue," Figliuzzi said.

But Figliuzzi never named the Russian agent in question, even if the BBC ran images of Chapman -- as well as shots of a look-a-like -- during the interview, and now the FBI says he wasn't talking about her at all. Instead, Justice Department officials told ABC News Figliuzzi was referring to another of the arrested spies, Cynthia Murphy.

According to court documents relating to the spies' arrest, Murphy had been in contact with a fundraiser and "personal friend" of Hillary Clinton, who took the office of Secretary of State in January 2009. The fundraiser, Alan Patricof, said in a statement in 2010 he had retained Murphy's financial services firm more than two years before, had met with her a few times and spoke with her on the phone frequently. Patricof said they "never" spoke about politics, the government or world affairs.

China-Japan-Koreas
Norks Lose Submarine Amid Largest US-South Korean Drill
Maybe that's what's got their panties in a bunch these days.
Pyongyang has presumably lost a military submarine, US intelligence sources say. The incident comes as a joint South Korea-US military exercise is underway in the region.
Uh oh. Pudgy's going to be pi$$ed. That crew better stay dead.
The Pentagon has been watching the North Korean search for the vessel ever since it went missing, through satellites, aircraft and vessels, three US military officials said, as cited by CNN.
Did they send out the other sub?
The sources could not determine whether the submarine has sunk or was adrift, however they believe it had "suffered some type of failure during an exercise."
Assuming he could fit down the hatch, maybe Pudgy was onboard to direct the effort himself and it sank under his weight.
"About a week ago it went missing and the speculation is that it sank," an unnamed US official told USNI News. "The North Koreans have not made an attempt to indicate there is something wrong or that they require help or some type of assistance," he added.
Just ignore them for now. They're known for that kind of thing. If they want help, they'll let you know by trying to extort it.
The South Korean Defence Ministry is currently investigating the matter, AFP reports, citing ministry officials. The Pentagon declined to comment on the matter, the agency says.
Maybe the door weatherstripping on the rusty hatch wasn't a good idea after all?
Tensions in the region are growing as the US and South Korea hold joint military drills involving over 15,000 Korean and 300,000 American troops. The exercise reportedly includes mastering ways to repel a possible North Korean nuclear threat. North Korea has already threatened to conduct a "pre-emptive nuclear strike of justice" unless the two countries stop the exercise.
People who live in one-bomb countries shouldn't be threatening superpowers with nuclear annihilation, I always say.
Moreover, Pyongyang launched two short-range missiles on Thursday into the Sea of Japan in order to disrupt the drill.

"We're already seeing North Korea starting to issue threats: If the US doesn't stop these exercises or doesn't cancel these exercises, North Korea may take appropriate action," said Bruce Klingner, a Korea expert at the Washington-based Heritage Foundation think tank, as quoted by the Marine Times.
Any relation to Max Klinger?

The Grand Turk
Biden snubbbed during Turkey Trip
From the minute he stepped off the plane on Wednesday, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden’s trip to Turkey seemed ill-fated.

Intended to smooth relations frayed by last month’s botched coup, Biden’s visit instead showcased acrimony with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Turkey sent low-ranking officials -- including Ankara’s deputy mayor -- to greet Biden at the airport. And even before the vice president’s visit ended, the Daily Sabah, a pro-Erdogan newspaper, declared that "Biden wasted a trip, Turkey wasted time."

Biden -- the highest-ranking U.S. official to visit Turkey since the coup -- was apologetic and conciliatory during his joint news conference with Erdogan. As the vice president spoke, the Turkish leader sat back in his chair, stone-faced.

Turkish animosity toward the U.S. ratcheted up after the failed coup on July 15, followed by a purge of thousands of soldiers, government officials and even teachers by Erdogan’s government. The Turkish government blames a self-exiled cleric living in Pennsylvania, Fethullah Gulen, for inciting the coup and has demanded his extradition.

Biden repeatedly offered condolences for the coup, sounding a different note than his boss, President Barack Obama, who chastised Turkish officials in July for spreading rumors that the U.S. was responsible. Biden called the coup’s perpetrators "terrorists," reflecting Erdogan’s language, and said, "I wish I could have been here earlier."

After Biden’s remarks, Erdogan called the relationship with the U.S. "a model partnership" but then accused Gulen of operating a global terrorist network from Pennsylvania and demanded that the U.S. immediately detain the preacher, in part to prevent him from being interviewed by journalists. At that, Biden put his face in his hands. His frustration showed through as he tried to explain the U.S. justice system and the Constitution’s separation of powers to his Turkish audience.

"God willing, there will be enough data and evidence to meet the criteria that you all believe exists," Biden said later. The White House spokesman, Josh Earnest, was asked during a news briefing happening at the same time if that remark meant the U.S. believes Gulen played a role in the coup. Earnest was left to walk back Biden’s remark.

"Look, I think the point that the vice president was making is that this is not going to be a decision that is made by the executive branch," the spokesman said.

For Biden, who places a premium on personal diplomacy, moments of friction are an inevitable byproduct. Senior administration officials acknowledged ahead of the trip that anything short of Gulen’s return would be a disappointment to the Turks, and said that raw feelings were understandable in the aftermath of a coup attempt that shook the people and leadership of the country.

Biden scored a minor diplomatic win when Prime Minister Binali Yildirim appeared to bolster the vice president’s emphatic proclamation the U.S. had no prior knowledge or role in the coup attempt.

"The frank statements by the vice president are very important to us," Yildirim told reporters at a news conference.

Even with the cool reception for Biden, cooperation between the U.S. and Turkey continued unimpeded in the battle against Islamic State. On the same day that the vice president visited, Turkish forces mounted an offensive in Syria against Islamic State extremists, an operation that the U.S. helped plan and supported with airstrikes, reconnaissance and intelligence.

#2  I saw part of Biden's speech on TV. He bowed down just about as low as he could. He was absolutely indignant about those bad, bad treasonous elements in the military who attempted the coup and, of course, the US had nothing to do with it. But not enough, huh? How low can you go, Joe?

#3  So - will Obama bend over anyway and hand over Gulen in spite of this?
Posted by Raj

Quite unlikely. Under Turkish enhanced interrogation techniques, Gulen would spill his cadre of Turkiman contacts and the entire network would be kaput. We simply cannot have the Turkish desk upended like that.

Time must be provided Gulen to arrange an orderly transfer of responsibilities. When that is accomplished, he is free to retire to Boise or make his heavenly ascension.

If Gulen were being handed over, why take the risk of sending Joe? If Gulen were being thrown under the bus, a diplomatic cable would do. If other arrangements are contemplated, a private face-to-face is required. I'm holding out for other arrangements, possibly Swiss franks neatly stacked on a 463L pallet.

Farage Frames U.S. Election as ‘Decent People' vs. Globalist Elite
[Breitbart] Introduced by Republican Party presidential candidate Donald Trump, he told the crowd that UKIP and Brexit campaigners had defeated the UK political establishment including the big banks, the corporations, the political classes, the pollsters, and the "liberal elite" by talking to people about controlling their country, their borders, and having self-respect for themselves.

He hit out at U.S. President Barack Obama, who visited Britain during the campaign and threatened to send the country "to the back of the queue" for a trade deal with the United States if Britain voted for Brexit.

Mr. Farage has previously called Mr. Obama "despicable" and said he refused to repeat his behaviour by telling Americans how to vote.

But echoing his words from an earlier interview with Breitbart London, Mr. Farage said: "I wouldn’t vote for Hillary Clinton if you paid me. In fact, I wouldn’t vote for Hillary Clinton if she paid me!"

The crowd, massively receptive to Mr. Farage’s comments, cheered repeatedly when he mentioned how they too could defeat the political status quo.
Sounds like Mr. Farage has put together a fairly accurate assessment.

Britain
Liberty Great Britain: 'HRC, Islam's whore.'
[Liberty GB] The left's hypocrisy has never been as evident as in this election cycle. The Democrat candidate is the most corrupt politician to run for the White House - and that's before ever being elected.

The MSM have worked arduously to cover for their nominee, and it's been no small task, with her history. The list is humongous:

• Covering for Bill's victimization of women (Kathleen Willey, Paula Jones, Jennifer Flowers, etc.), by defaming and harassing the female victims
• Turning the IRS into their own Posse Comitatus, to punish their enemies
• Vandalized and looted the White House upon exit
• Her part in Filegate, which violated the privacy of Linda Tripp and Kathleen Willey
• Her aide for many years, Huma Abedin, who has known family ties to the Muslim Brotherhood (MB)
• Her involvement and cover-up of Vince Foster's death
• The Clinton Foundation's interminable scandals
• Emailgate
• Her culpability with Benghazi where four Americans lost their lives

The list is a work in progress...

This is a candidate who would most likely throw anyone under a bus (literally) who stands in the way of her becoming the first female president. (Of course, gender has nothing to do with the qualifications for the highest office in the Free World - but character does, and on that basis she's already disqualified.)

This is also a candidate who purports to be a proponent of women's rights and the rights of the LGBT community. Yet, she had no problem taking millions of dollars into the Clinton Foundation, from Islamic countries:

• Algeria donated $250,000 to $500,000
• The Nation of Brunei donated $1,000,000 to $5,000,000
• Kuwait donated $5,000,000 to $10,000,000
• Sultanate of Oman donated $1,000,000 to $5,000,000
• Qatar donated $5.8 million
• Saudi Arabia donated up to $50 million
• United Arab Emirates donated up to $11.5 million
• Morocco-owned OCP, a phosphate exportation company, donated $1,000,000 to $5,000,000

All of the above countries are ruled by Islamic Sharia Law. These are edicts which treat women as chattel to be used by Muslim men, often abused and killed without an afterthought. And gays are met with cruel and unusual punishment at the least, and too often death.

By taking this filthy Islamic lucre, Hillary has prostituted herself out to whatever these 'donors' desire, including shutting up our First Amendment rights, as she has been a proponent of the blasphemy law the OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) has been pushing at the UN. She has betrayed those she claims to defend, and she has presented these individuals as an offering to Muhammad's minions.

Her alliances and obligations to corrupt Islamic countries and terror groups (MB) make her an extremely dangerous individual to America's national security and therefore a liability for our freedom-loving allies.

America and the free world have no place for conduits for Muhammed.

It's now imperative to keep Islam's Whore out of the White House.

Shalom through strength.

#1  Islam's whore? No, she's simply a global 'Moderate Muslim' community organizer, continuing the efforts of our Kenyan master and his 'shadow gov't' handlers.

The same sectarian strategy that helped fracture the Soviet Union and keep Afrika in a constant state of turmoil, is now diligently at work 're-making' Europe and the United States.

He represents a cult dedicated to bloodshed and destruction, which rejects any attempt at domestication. The Mohammedan is entirely predictable, warring even within his own tribe when no one else is available.

Yes, the Mohammedan is little more than the 'useful idiot' of the global elite. We have domestic 'useful idiots' as well, but I need not name them. This readership is sophisticated enough to know who they are.

Turkey's purge: More arrests, confiscations, and a Clinton donor
Turkish authorities fire more than 2,800 judges, prosecutors

[Ynet] Turkish authorities fired more than 2,800 judges and prosecutors on Wednesday, in the latest purge related to the July 15 coup, broadcaster CNN Turk reported.

Turkey issues arrest warrants for 29 academics

[IsraelTimes] Dozens of personnel at Katip Çelebi University arrested or suspended over failed coup to oust Erdogan

A Turkish court Tuesday ordered the arrests of dozens of members of staff at a state-run university in an ongoing crackdown following a failed coup attempt last month, the Turkish Minute website reported.

Among those on the arrest list were the university’s former deputy rector, Professor Tancan Uysal, who in the 2015 elections ran in Justice and Development Party (AK Party) which was formerly led by Erdogan.

Earlier this month 44 arrest warrants were issued for academics and members of staff at the university. Of those, 40 have been detained and four are still on the run.

The arrests came a day after the Hurriyet Daily newspaper reported a court in the capital Ankara issued arrest papers for 38 other people in connection with a 2010 sex-tape scandal involving the chairman of the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) and which was allegedly orchestrated by the Gullen movement.

In addition, seven academics at the Yüzüncü Yıl University in the eastern province of Van were suspended Tuesday for links to the Gulen movement, the report said.

So far, 81,494 people have been purged from state bodies,
...unemployed, unemployable, and unable to leave the country, not to mention countless more enjoying the same in the private sector....
40,029 detained and 20,355 arrested since the coup attempt, Turkish Minute said.

Three more former Turkish footballers embroiled in anti-Gülen sports probe

[Hurriyet] An Istanbul prosecutor has issued an arrest warrant for three former football stars as part of an investigation probing alleged infiltration of the movement of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen into Turkish football.

Two weeks after a warrant was issued against footballer-turned-politician Hakan Şükür and his father Selmet Şükür over alleged links to the Fethullahist Terror Organization (FETÖ), Istanbul prosecutor Mehmet Şenay Baygın has also issued warrants for former players Arif Erdem, İsmail Demiriz and Uğur Tütüneker.

Staging operations to arrest the suspects, police detained Demiriz at his home in the Büyükçekmece district of Istanbul. The two others suspects, along with Şükür, were confirmed to be abroad.

In addition to his arrest warrant, a Turkish court in the northwestern province of Sakarya on Aug. 12 had ruled for the seizure of property and possessions owned by Şükür and his father, worth 200 million Turkish Liras, after identifying the two as providing financial support to FETÖ.

One of coup plot leaders was Clinton donor: Report

[Hurriyet] A company created by Adil Öksüz, who is believed to have ties to U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen, made a $5,000 donation to the Ready for Hillary PAC, a group preparing for Clinton’s presidential campaign, according to the report on Aug. 24.

“A company called Harmony Enterprises gave $5,000 to the PAC on June 27, 2014, campaign finance records show. Öksüz registered Harmony in New Jersey in 2010, according to state corporate records. It is the only campaign donation the company had ever made,” the report read, as it added that the Clinton campaign, which did not control the operations of the super PAC, didn’t provide a response to USA TODAY’s questions.

“The company website suggests it is a paper manufacturing business, but the address listed on the corporate records is a used-car lot on a highway in Lodi, N.J. Harmony’s phone number is disconnected,” it added.

Foreign nationals are not allowed by law to make campaign donations, but foreign-owned companies are allowed to donate as long as they are using U.S.-generated profits and the decision to donate is made by U.S citizens who work for the company, the newspaper said, citing election lawyer Charlie Spies.

Gülen’s extradition must not prolong

[Hurriyet] On Turkey’s expectation of Gülen’s extradition, Biden said, “I understand the intense feeling your government and the people of Turkey have about him [Gülen]. We are cooperating with the Turkish authorities,” recalling ongoing technical works undertaken between the two countries’ justice ministries in Ankara.

The U.S. had “no intention of protecting a person who harms” its ally, Biden said, but made clear the decision would be given by the U.S. courts upon the evidence provided by Turkey.

“We are cooperating with Turkish authorities, our legal experts are working right now with [their] Turkish counterparts on [the] production of and evaluation of material and evidence that needs to be supplied to an American court to meet requirements under our law and the extradition treaty, and we’ll continue to do so as you continue to bring forward additional information,” he stressed.
In other words, we are a nation of laws, not a totalitarian regime that can just ship off some guy just because Sultan Recip I wants him, though possibly President Erdogan, et al did not understand it that way. Well said, Mr. Vice President.
Yıldırım on the other side made clear that the strategic partnership between the two countries necessitated the U.S. to hand over Gülen to Turkey, which could turn the negative feelings towards the U.S. positive.

“Our greatest expectation would be that we don’t lose any time conducting these processes and I believe the final expectation [is] clear,” he added.
Another Hurriyet article adds:

Hibernating Hillary Running Out the Clock
BLUF: [LI] Logically looking at the situation, Hillary should be playing to avoid turnovers and to run out the clock. Which according to Politico, is her strategy, Hillary Clinton's run-out-the-clock strategy:

"She is not planning on sitting for another televised armchair confessional to rehash regrets about a private email server. Nor is the campaign setting up the kind of war room employed last year to discredit a book that aimed to expose a quid-pro-quo relationship between Clinton Foundation donors and State Department officials.

With 75 days until Election Day and new emails once again casting a pall over her campaign, Hillary Clinton aims to “run out the clock,” confidants say, on the latest chapters of the overlapping controversies that have dogged her campaign since the start.

According to allies and operatives close to the campaign, Clinton’s team thinks “they can ride out” any negative reaction to a set of new emails that show Clinton Foundation officials trying to set up State Department meetings for donors during her tenure as the nation’s top diplomat.

“That doesn’t mean no response,” one Clinton team insider said, “but a muted one rather than a five-alarm fire.”

It’s a strategy borne, in part, of a belief held deeply by Clinton herself that the email controversy is a fake scandal and that voters are as sick of it as the candidate herself — and by the profound weaknesses of Clinton’s opponent."
I look for a severe attack of Bronchitis on the eve of the first debate.

Judges Put Election Reforms in Wisconsin on Hold, Except for Voter ID
[DAILYSIGNAL] On Monday, a three-judge panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refused without comment to stay a Wisconsin district court opinion in One Wisconsin Institute v. Thomsen that threw out changes the state legislature had made in early voting rules as well as other changes such as the residency requirement for new voters.

However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
the state’s voter ID law will remain in place for the November election because the district court judge, James D. Peterson, a President Barack Obama
I am the change that you seek...
appointee, stayed his earlier ruling against the ID law on Aug. 11.

Peterson didn’t have much choice on that issue: The same three-judge panel that refused to stay his overall ruling had issued a stay on the voter ID issue on Aug. 10 in a second district court case in Wisconsin, Frank v. Walker.

In that case, another federal judge, Lynn Adelman, a Bill Clinton
...former Democratic president of the U.S. Bill was the second U.S. president to be impeached, the first to deny that oral sex was sex, the first to have difficulty with the definition of is...
appointee and former Democratic state senator, required the state to allow anyone who signed a form stating they could not obtain an ID to vote--despite the fact that Adelman admitted "most voters in Wisconsin either possess qualifying ID or can easily obtain one."

#2  It's simple. You don't have a valid ID, you fill out a paper ballot which is enclosed in a envelope with your claimed ID information. If the election is close enough, then the voter information is validated before being opened and counted in the final numeration for the election.

1 - they still get the vote.
2 - the information is validated prior to counting.
3 - the unvalidated votes show you why there are ID requirements.

Britain
Israel sold weapons to Argentina at height of Falklands War
The Telegraph engages in an egregious case of special pleading. The Independent reported a few years ago that in the period leading up to the war (1978-1981) the UK sold over £126million of weaponry to the Argentine junta, weapons used against their own forces, and cancelled some orders only after the war had begun in 1982. Unmentioned in the Telegraph report is the value of the Israeli weapons sold to Argentina, but given that a few years earlier the four leading arms manufacturing countries (USA, USSR, Britain, and France) together had 90% of the sales to the Third World, one suspects the harm done to Britain's finest by Israeli weapons was considerably less than the harm done by British weapons given into Argentine hands. The point made by Israel at the time, and heaped with scorn by the Telegraph journalist, that the UK had similarly sold weapons to Israel's enemies, is easily verified by those unprejudiced enough to spend a few minutes exploring the internet.

Taiz siege: Deadly battles rage
ADEN: Deadly clashes raged on Monday between Iran-backed rebels and Yemeni government forces battling to secure an entrance to the besieged city of Taiz, military sources said. Backed by a Saudi-led Arab coalition, Yemeni troops launched an offensive last week to break the rebel siege on Yemen’s flashpoint third city, in the country’s southwest. The heaviest fighting Monday was near its western entrance where air strikes by the Arab coalition and ground battles left 11 dead among Houthi rebels and their allies, loyalist military sources said.

CEO Who Raised Prices on EpiPen Is Joe Manchin's Daughter
[Free Beacon] Capitol Hill could get awkward in September if the Senate Judiciary Committee calls for Mylan NV CEO Heather Bresch to testify. Bresch’s pharmaceutical company not only hiked the price of the EpiPen by 400 percent, but her father is Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin (W.Va.).

Despite Bresch’s family connection to Manchin, she is not being shielded from criticism. Lawmakers from both chambers of Congress believe that the price hike is detrimental to families who need the EpiPen to prevent life threatening allergic reactions, Bloomberg reported. Mylan used to charge $57 per shot for the EpiPen in 2007, but now they are charging over $600 for two auto-injectors.

"I am deeply concerned by this significant price increase for a product that has been on the market for more than three decades, and by Mylan’s failure to publicly explain the recent cost increase, which places a significant burden on parents, schools, and other purchasers of the EpiPen," Sen. Mark Warner (D., Va.) said Tuesday in a statement, adding that he has a child with severe allergies.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D., Conn.), who has asked the company to lower its prices, is holding an event Wednesday where he will call for the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Federal Trade Commission to investigate "potential antitrust violations and deceptive and illegal trade practices," Bloomberg reported.

#3  Merck held the patent for years. They spent large $$ developing and improving the unit, but it was only a small part of their overall market share. They didn't raise the prices for the improved devices accordingly, probably not wanting to have governments start prying into their other product pricing (don't believe they were just being benevolent).

Mylan bought the rights in 2007 as an investment (no R&D, just manufacturing on the cheap and sales). Guess what happened. They held the market and priced accordingly.

Typical Hedge Fund method of operation. Have you seen any new product improvements for these in the last 10 years? Didn't think so.

There are several in our family that have serious bee-sting allergies, and we have to change these things out every 18 months or so as their shelf life expires. They went from ~$80 to $300 apiece now. The alternative Adrenaclick (similar product by a different company) is still about $150 a pop.

Emails Show Top HRC Aide Researched Alzheimer's Drug
[Free Beacon] Recently released emails show that Jake Sullivan, a top aide to Hillary Clinton, researched a drug that is used to treat Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, among other disorders, while Clinton was secretary of state and told her about his findings.

Sullivan, Clinton’s top foreign policy adviser, was researching the drug Provigil for Clinton at the State Department in 2011, the Daily Caller reported.

Sullivan emailed Clinton information on Provigil and told her about its use and history. Sullivan noted in an email that Provigil is used for narcolepsy and treating patients with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Multiple Sclerosis who have excessive sleepiness.

Sullivan also noted that Provigil is often prescribed to treat "excessive sleepiness in patients with Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and multiple sclerosis."

Common Side Effects of Provigil:
Headache, nausea, nervousness, dizziness, or difficulty sleeping, fast/pounding/irregular heartbeat, mental/mood changes (such as agitation, confusion, depression, hallucinations, barking, rare thoughts of suicide).

#5  By the way the last reference there was for modafini1 use in nootropics, so called cognitive enhancers or "smart" pills. Their original purpose for research was for things like Alzheimer and dementia, but the focus has changed in the past decade and a half.

Maybe this is Hillary was wanting, to be smarter and sharper to keep her lies straight and not get caught - she is after all not that bright. Like a badger, not smart but vicious as hell.

As for the drug, ask any recent ER MD about how residency works and what medications are commonly used to combat screwed up schedules and long hours. Zo1pidem (Ambi3n) and modafini1 (Provigi1) will come up - so will arm0dafinil (Nuvigi1) the newer version with supposedly less side effect.

ISIS attacks Syrian rebel camp near Jordan
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] ISIS launched a bomb and gun attack on a Western-backed Syrian rebel camp near the Jordanian border on Wednesday, according to the rebels who said they had killed at least 30 of the attackers and suffered at least three casualties themselves.

A jacket wallah rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the camp belonging to the Forces of Martyrs Ahmad al-Abdo rebel group in a sparsely populated desert area near where the borders of Syria, Jordan and Iraq meet, the rebels’ front man, Saeed Saif, said. They then attacked several rebel outposts.

"We repelled the attack by ISIS (ISIS) on several areas and they failed to make any progress and have retreated," Saif told Rooters.

The Force of Martyrs Ahmed al-Abdo was one of the earliest Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) groups to get US-made anti-tank missiles and is one of the groups aligned on the so-called Southern Front that a coalition of Western and Arab countries support.

That backing is part of a strategy of preventing opposition-held southern Syria and the south-eastern desert area falling into the hands of radical turban groups.

The group’s leader, Saleem Bakour, was killed in June by a suspected ISIS turban.

ISIS claimed a suicide kaboom launched from the same area in June when a car crossed into Jordan and killed seven Jordanian border guards.

Houthis destroys Soddy convoy with RPG fire

Houthi forces ambush Saudi Army near Najran in southwestern Saudi Arabia and have destroyed several Saudi Arabian armoured vehicles due to breakage of Georgian-made Didgori medical armoured personnel carrier developed by the “Delta”.

Delta earlier announced that it had won a GEL100 million (USD40 million) contract to supply “several dozen” vehicles to Saudi Arabia after its offering won trials held in Saudi Arabia in 2014.

Footage emerged of the Yemeni Republican Guard and the supporting Popular Mobilization Forces ambushing Saudi vehicles in Najran, a province in southwestern Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi regime has so far failed to stop the Yemeni advance that has reached Najran Dam amidst Houthi advances on almost all fronts. A few days ago, Yemeni forces managed tosurround Saudi-backed forces in the imperative city of Taiz in southern Yemen by cutting all supply lines to the city from Aden.

During the battle, Didgori armoured vehicle had suspension damage and blocked the way for light armoured vehicles (LAV). Crews of Saudi fighting vehicles were killed.

The Didgori armored medical evacuation vehicle is primary design to insure transportation of wounded soldiers from the front line of military operations and providing first medical aid during transportation. This medical evacuation vehicle on universal Ford F550 4×4 chassis and fully designed, assembled and tested by State Military Scientific-Technical Center “Delta” in Georgia.

ICC prosecutors urge ‘nine to 11 years’ for Timbuktu attacks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] War crimes prosecutors on Wednesday urged a jail sentence of up to 11 years for a Malian bad boy who pleaded guilty to ransacking the fabled desert city of Timbuktu.

Ahmad al-Faqi al-Mahdi admitted Monday to having razed some of the west African city’s most historic mausoleums as his unprecedented trial opened before the International Criminal Court
... where Milosevich died of old age before being convicted ...
Mahdi, aged about 40, is the first bad boy charged by the Hague-based tribunal and the first charged with crimes arising out of the conflict in Mali.

The wanton destruction by Death Eaters, who considered the mausoleums idolatrous, triggered global outcry and ICC prosecutors said the sentence should serve as an "effective deterrent" that plundering the world’s common heritage would not go unpunished.

"Today, after two days of hearings and almost at the end of the trial, the prosecution asks the Chamber to impose a sentence in the range of between nine to 11 years," prosecutor Gilles Dutertre told a three-judge bench.

"The sentence should fully reflect his (Mahdi’s) guilt, serve as an effective deterrent and give justice to the victims," the prosecutor urged.

"It cannot be tolerated that world heritage can be deliberately destroyed, with disdain for the importance that it has to other people," Dutertre added.

A former teacher and Islamic scholar, Mahdi admitted to the sole war crimes charge of "intentionally directing attacks" against nine of Timbuktu’s famous mausoleums as well as the Sidi Yahia mosque between June 30 and July 11, 2012.

7 al-Qaeda operatives die in Yemen drone strike
[AlArabiya] Drone strikes killed seven al-Qaeda suspects traveling in cars in provinces of southern and eastern Yemen on Wednesday, security sources said.

Three people died when a rocket fired from a drone struck their vehicle in a desert area of Marib province, east of Yemen’s rebel-held capital Sanaa, a security source said.

Another security official said a separate drone attack in the southern province of Shabwa killed four suspects in a car on a road leading from provincial capital Ataq to nearby Nisab.

The United States has carried out numerous drone strikes against al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) operatives in Yemen.

American officials said this month that the US military had killed three AQAP fighters in a strike, also in Shabwa.

AQAP has exploited a power vacuum created by a conflict between the government and Shiite rebels to expand its presence in south and southeast Yemen.

Deadliest franchise
But the US has vowed to continue its campaign against the group, which it considers to be the al-Qaeda terror network’s deadliest franchise.

A Saudi-led Arab military coalition that backs the Yemeni government has also turned its sights on AQAP, targeting it with air strikes.

The coalition is supporting pro-government forces which launched an offensive this year to retake several towns from AQAP.

In April, the militants seized provincial capital Mukalla in southeast Yemen, and this month loyalists recaptured the capital of the southern Abyan province, Zinjibar.

Afghanistan
Another Talibunny shadow official dies in Faryab province
The Taliban shadow governor for the central Ghor province was killed in airstrikes conducted in northern Faryab province of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Tuesday that the airstrikes were carried out late on Monday evening in Pashtoon kot district of Faryab.

According to a statement by MoI “Yesterday evening, during an airstrike which was took place in Sakhi Dad and Tilan villages of Pashton Kot District of Faryab province, 50 armed Taliban were killed including Mullah Ahmad Shah Ghori Taliban’s so-called governor for Ghor province.”

The statement further added “Also, one vehicle, one machine gun and some amount of light and heavy rounds of ammunition destroyed as well.”

The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.

Faryab is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where the Taliban insurgents and militants belonging to the other insurgents are active in a number of its remote districts.

The killing of the Taliban shadow governor in Pashtoon Kot comes as the group has intensified attacks in northern provinces during the recent months, specifically in Kunduz province.

The group captured the control of Khanabad district and Qala-e-Zal following days of clashes but the Afghan forces managed to push the militants out of the district center.

Daraya to be handed to the Syrian Army following agreement
[ALMASDARNEWS] Calm reigned over the embattled city of Daraya in the previous day as a government envoy met a rebel envoy to negotiate terms of surrender in the Damascene city of Western Ghouta.

After the execution of the amnesty and relocation operations, the city will be announced liberated and all its roads will open for civil activity after five years of devastating war. Government services will be provided to the city as soon as possible to allow for swift return of its population and the rebuilding process to resume.

Warnings of rate hikes as Oregon becomes 1st state to kill coal
[FOXNEWS] The massive coal-fired plant in Boardman, Ore., is just four years away from being shut down for good ‐ at that point, Oregon coal production will be no more, after the state became the first in the nation to completely ban coal power.

The mandate, signed into law earlier this year, was the result of an environmentalist-fueled push by the Democrat-controlled legislature. Under the plan, coal production will end once the Boardman plant shutters in 2020 ‐ utilities would still be able to buy coal power from out of state for another 10 years, until a 2030 deadline to end coal use entirely.

But the phase-out already has groups warning that residents are headed for big rate increases and brownouts.

"This is basically a wind mandate," said the Cascade Policy Institute's John Charles, while suggesting alternative energy sources won’t be able to meet the state’s needs. "There's no way wind can physically power the grid because days, weeks on end, wind produces zero."

Coal has been in decline for years. In 2005, coal made up 51 percent of the electricity used in the U.S. Last year, it met 40 percent of the need.

Iraq
Iraq forces advance in town south of Mosul
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraqi forces on Wednesday closed in on the center of Qayyarah, officials said, on the second day of an operation to recapture the town from Lion of Islams.

Qayyarah lies on the western bank of the Tigris river, about 60 kilometers (35 miles) south of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, ISIS’s last major urban stronghold in Iraq.

Brigadier General Najm al-Juburi from the operations command for Nineveh, the province in which both Qayyarah and Mosul are located, said the town was now encircled.

"There are only a few meters left before troops advancing from the west and troops coming from the east meet and complete the siege around Qayyarah," he told AFP.

He said the vast majority of villages around Qayyarah had been retaken since special forces launched the operation on Tuesday.

Juburi and other military officials in the area confirmed the progress and said that a nearby oil field and refinery had also been recaptured from IS.

"Liberating Qayyarah will mean cutting off Mosul from the southern areas, which will make liberating Mosul much easier," Juburi said.

"This is a blow to the organization of ISIS (ISIS) because it affects their economy, and this after we retook an air base that is now going to be used to attack them," he said.

Iraqi security forces have been operating in the area for weeks, as part of shaping operations for a major offensive on the city of Mosul in the coming weeks or months.

They had already retaken the Qayyarah air field, which ISIS was not using because it has no air force but which Iraqi aircraft will soon be using against the Lion of Islams.
That must've been what they were referring to when they said they'd taken the place yesterday.

Hajj stoning ritual to be shortened after 2015’s deadly stampede
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A stoning ritual which led to the deaths of about 2,300 people during last year’s hajj will be more tightly controlled during next month’s pilgrimage, Saudi newspapers reported on Wednesday. The period during which pilgrims can perform the Jamarat ritual will be reduced by 12 hours, the Saudi Gazette reported.

The symbolic stoning of the devil will be performed as usual over three days beginning September 11 at Mina, about five kilometres (three miles) east of Mecca’s Grand Mosque, Islam’s holiest site.

But this year there will be no stoning allowed from 6:00 to 10:30 am on the first day, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm on the second day and from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm on the final day, the hajj ministry said.

"This procedure will enable the pilgrims to throw stones easily and will prevent any stampede that may result from overcrowding," the Saudi Gazette quoted ministry undersecretary Hussain al-Sharif as saying.

He did not elaborate on how the new time restrictions would reduce the potential for overcrowding. The stampede was the worst disaster in hajj history.

It occurred outside the five-storey Jamarat Bridge, a structure resembling a huge parking garage which hosts the stoning ritual and cost more than $1 billion to build.

It is almost one kilometre (more than half a mile) long and allows 300,000 pilgrims an hour to carry out the ritual.

Egypt’s Sisi may run for re-election
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Egyptian president Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi for the first time on Tuesday publicly expressed his willingness to run for a second presidential term in the 2018 elections "if it is the will of the Egyptian people," Ahram Online reported.
And you can bet your bottom Egyptian pound that it will be.
Sisi announced his possible re-election bid in a statement on his official Facebook page.

Using a quote from an interview he gave to national newspapers, the Egyptian president said that he "can never fail to respond to the will of Egyptians. I am subject to the will of the Egyptian people."

Sisi was first elected to office by a landslide 96.1 per cent in May 2014 after years of political instability and street protests. Under the Egyptian constitution, he qualifies for one more four-year term, if he is re-elected in 2018.

Ten Minutes To Tokyo
[PJMEDIA] Depending on how you view it North Korea is either a nuisance or a growing threat to world peace. Today North Korea fired a submarine launched ballistic missile from a port off its east coast to a point more than halfway to Tokyo. "The missile was fired at around 5:30am (local time) from near the coastal city of Sinpo, where satellite imagery shows a submarine base to be located, and flew about 500 kilometres before splashing into the Sea of Japan, US and South Korean officials said. The projectile landed in Japan's air defence identification zone (ADIZ), an area of control designated by countries to help maintain air security, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported."

North Korea's "SLBM (submarine-launched ballistic missile) technology appears to have progressed," a South Korean military official said." The North Korean missile is based on the Soviet Russian R-27. It's primary targets are clearly Japan and South Korea. Wikipedia writes "the KN-11 is the first sign of a North Korean sea-based nuclear deterrent, which complicates the U.S. and South Korean ability to preemptively destroy the country's nuclear capabilities by threatening a second strike. While there is a chance to take out land-based nuclear sites, ballistic missile submarines ensure that a retaliatory strike could still be launched before it can be found and neutralized."

called on Syrian Kurdish forces to "move back across the Euphrates River," at a joint presser with Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim in Ankara on Wednesday, warning them they will lose US support if they don’t.

"They cannot - will not - under any circumstance get American support if they do not keep that commitment," said Biden.

Biden indirectly expressed support for the Turkish operation launched Wednesday to clear ISIS bandidos bandidos Lion of Islams from the town of Jarablus and deter Kurds from further expanding in northern Syria.

Meanwhile,

Rebel factions fighting south of Jarabulus
[ARA News] MANBIJ – Clashes broke out on Thursday between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Turkish-backed rebels in northern Syria.

The clashes took place near Tal Amaranth village north of Manbij, about 7 kilometers from the town of Jarabulus.

SDF forces advanced towards Jarabulus city –earlier taken by Turkish-backed rebels– despite warnings by the US Vice President Joe Biden that Kurdish forces should pull back across the Euphrates, to maintain US support.

“The problem for the Kurds is that it is not geopolitically feasible through the rest of the Obama Administration,” Nicholas Heras, a Washington-based Middle East researcher at the Centre for a New American Security told ARA News.

“Vice President Biden did not mince words, the SDF can retain U.S. support, but only by abiding by the terms of Washington’s NATO ally Turkey,” Heras said.

The clashes broke out after the Turkish-backed rebels –also known as the Euphrates Shield forces– continued to advance towards the el-Armarna village which was taken earlier today by SDF forces, according to local sources.

The rebels ignored warning shots of SDF-forces, and as a result clashes broke out.

Battle for Jarabulus
In the meantime, the SDF-linked Jarabulus Military Council started its preparations to enter the Syrian border city of Jarabulus after the Turkey-backed rebel groups took over the city from ISIS. The area is expected to witness heavy fighting between the different factions in the coming days.

Local fighters of Jarabulus expressed their refusal to any occupation by neighbour countries to their hometown.

Jarabulus has witnessed sporadic clashes between Turkey-backed Syrian rebels and ISIS on Wednesday morning.

Also, the Turkish army has bombed villages in the vicinity of Jarabulus, killing and wounding dozens of civilians, according to local sources.

Activists reported that ISIS has delivered Jarabulus city to the Turkey-backed rebels without any resistance.

Speaking to ARA News, Ahmed al-Jadir, a member of the SDF-led Jarabulus Military Council, said: “We, as members of the Syrian Democratic Forces, will not allow some mercenaries to take over our city. We will liberate Jarabulus.”

“Those Turkey-backed rebels are no different from ISIS. We will free our people from all radical suppressive groups,” he said.

Muhammad Ahmed, an officer in the Jarabulus Military Council, told ARA News that ISIS has not shown any resistance to the Turkish troops and their allies when they entered Jarabulus city from the Turkish side of the border on Wednesday.

“We now consider our city occupied by Turkey and its mercenaries. The city of Jarabulus was exposed to heavy bombardment by the Turkish army, and we have not seen any resistance from ISIS against those troops. We are aware that ISIS militants have entered Turkey today after shaving their beards and dressing like Free Syrian Army,” he said. “We, as a faction of the Syrian Democratic Forces, are waiting for the general command of the SDF to give orders to enter the city. We are ready.”

Trump drives agenda while Hillary hides behind jokes
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Never in modern American political history has a more issue-oriented, serious candidate for president faced off against a more dishonest, platform-less, self-absorbed celebrity who is cashing in on ill-gotten wealth and fame despite serious concerns about mental and physical health.

The man all about issues, of course, is real estate developer Donald Trump. From the day he announced for the presidency, Mr. Trump has set the agenda.

In the primary, establishment Republicans would have been perfectly happy to just talk about proper politician temperament and nibbling around the edges of arcane education policy. Who has the best hair and most diverse looking families. Whose name sound the most Hispanic.

Mr. Trump crashed that party and declared that the primary would not be just another beauty pageant. It would be about securing the border to stop illegal immigration, tracking down and killing terrorists before they get into the United States and jump-starting the domestic economy.

Woven through his concrete policy positions was a new mantra of “America first,” both in terms of foreign policy and economic trade. This would mean an end to bipartisan military entanglements that do not directly strengthen the USA and the abandonment of trade deals that do not directly benefit America.

During the first year of their TV show back in the 1970's they were one of the most compelling acts in the business. The show was a raving success. You'd think that a strong and intelligent woman would have seen the wisdom in sticking with it and working to resolve whatever issues Cher might have had with the man. But she bailed right at the pinnacle of their career. We could argue all day about how raising their daughter without a father affected the child's development. But I don't think there can be any argument whatsoever about who was the brains of that operation.

Powerful quake hits Myanmar, damaging famed Bagan temples
[CHANNELNEWSASIA] A powerful 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on Wednesday (Aug 24), killing at least three people and damaging nearly 200 pagodas in the famous ancient capital of Bagan, officials said.

The quake, which the US Geological Survey said hit at a depth of 84 kilometres, was also felt across neighbouring Thailand, India and Bangladesh, sending panicked residents rushing onto the streets.

Two girls, aged 7 and 15, were killed in Magway region where the quake struck, according to Myanmar's Ministry of Information.

A collapsed building in a nearby town also killed a 22-year-old man and injured one woman, local police told AFP.

Heavy damage was also reported in Bagan - Myanmar's most famous archaeological site and a major tourist destination 30 kilometres north of the quake's epicentre.

Some 171 of the city's more than 2,500 Buddhist monuments were damaged by the tremors, according to a statement posted by the Ministry of Religious and Cultural Affairs on Facebook.

"Some were seriously damaged," Aung Kyaw, the local director of Bagan's culture department, told AFP.

Photos showed clouds of dust billowing around some of the site's larger temples, with bricks crumbling down their tiered facades.

A police officer from Bagan said a Spanish holidaymaker was slightly hurt when the quake knocked her from the temple where she was watching the sunset.

Scaling Bagan's ancient structures to watch the sun set over the vast plain of pagodas is a daily ritual among tourists and local pilgrims.

Italy rescuers toil through night seeking quake survivors as death toll hits 159
Rescue teams were working through the night to try to find survivors under the rubble that remained of central Italian towns flattened by an earthquake that hit in the early hours of Wednesday, killing at least 159 people.

One hotel that collapsed in the small town of Amatrice probably had about 70 guests, and only seven bodies had so far been recovered, said the mayor of the town that was one of the worst hit by the quake.

The strong 6.2 magnitude quake razed homes and buckled roads in a cluster of mountain communities 140 km (85 miles) east of Rome. It was powerful enough to be felt in Bologna to the north and Naples to the south, each more than 220 km (135 miles) from the epicenter.

"Tonight will be our first nightmare night," said Alessandro Gabrielli, one of hundreds preparing to sleep in tents erected by rescue workers in fields and parking lots, each one housing 12 people whose homes had been destroyed.

Chelsea Clinton also had an account on the homemade website domain that Hillary Clinton used exclusively for emails during her time as secretary of state, The New York Times reports. The domain name had a server linked to the family’s Chappaqua, New York, residence. But her real name is absent from the email address.

She used her clintonemail.com account under the cover name pseudonym "Diane Reynolds," which the Times reports she often used when checking into hotels.

Longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin also had a clintonemail.com account, according to the report, an apparent prized symbol of status within Clinton’s vast network of advisers, well-wishers, and hangers-on. According to Philippe Reines, another close Clinton aide and former State Department official, Abedin was the only department official other than the secretary to use a clintonemail.com account.

Clinton tweeted late Wednesday that she wants the public to see emails from the 55,000 pages she handed over to the State Department. Emphasis added.

The assault at around 6:30 p.m. local time (10.00 a.m. ET) on Wednesday began with a large kaboom that officials said was a boom-mobile followed by gunfire, as suspected bully boyz battled into the complex where foreign staff and hundreds of pupils were working.

Elite Afghan forces surrounded the walled compound and eventually worked their way inside, according to a senior interior ministry official.

Details of casualties are still scarce, but the Afghan Public health Ministry said one guard was killed and at least 21 people were maimed, six critically. No foreigners were reported among the maimed.

Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi told Rooters early on Thursday that security forces had rescued around 500 students from the university, which is popular with Afghanistan's elite.

The dead included seven students, according to Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi. Three police officers and two security guards were also killed, the ministry said.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the assault but suspicion is likely to fall on the Taliban. The group's spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, would only tell the media that the Taliban are "investigating."

The year-long U.N. and Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) inquiry - unanimously authorized by the U.N. Security Council - focused on nine attacks in seven areas of Syria, where a separate OPCW fact-finding investigation had already determined that chemical weapons had likely been used.

Eight of the attacks investigated involved the use of chlorine. The inquiry was unable to reach a conclusion in six cases, though it said that three of those cases warranted further investigation.

The results set the stage for a Security Council showdown between the five veto-wielding powers, likely pitting Russia and China against the United States, Britannia and La Belle France over whether sanctions should be imposed in the wake of the inquiry.

"It is essential that the members of the Security Council come together to ensure consequences for those who have used chemical weapons in Syria," U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power said in a statement. "We strongly urge all states to support strong and swift action by the Security Council."

EU to train Libyan seamen to tackle people-smugglers
[Libya Herald] Libyan coastguard and naval personnel are to be trained by the EU to help them tackle people-smugglers, who so far this year have sent 107,000 migrants colonists toward Europe, 2,700 of them to their deaths.
That's because the EU has done such a good job of keeping human traffickers under control.
Coastguard commander Abdalh Toumia signed the training deal in Rome yesterday on behalf of the Government of National Accord. Alongside him was the head of the EU’s anti-smuggling Operation Sophia, Italian admiral Enrico Credendino.

"This training will improve the security of Libyan territorial waters", said Credendino, " and help Libya to perform law enforcement actions in order to tackle the criminal organizations that take advantage of smuggling and trafficking in human beings". It would also, he added prevent further loss of life at sea.

Details have not been given of how many Libyans will be trained. However they will first spend a period on board one of Operation Sophia’s patrolling naval vessels, almost certainly one belonging to the Italian navy. These warships are stationed in international waters, though it seems clear that, in response to distress calls from migrants colonists, they have come inside Libya’s martime frontier.

The trainees will then move to an unnamed shore base in the EU or Libya for classroom instruction. Their three-month course will end with further drills upon Libyan patrol vessels.

Libyan navy front man Ayyub Gassem described Operation Sophia as Italian propaganda designed to conceal illegal fishing and fuel smuggling to the EU.

"We do not need training" Gassem said in an interview with the Libya Observer "we need boats and other equipment". He complained that Italia had still not released four Libyan patrol vessels sent there for maintenance in August 2014.

Zintan and Janzour in talks on reconciliation and return of the displaced
[Libya Herald] The mayor and officials from the far west Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
suburb of Janzour have had talks in Zintan with its mayor and officials in a bid to normalise relations between the two communities.

The return to Janzour of those who left because of the political crisis and who are now living in Zintan was one of the issues addressed. The closure of the coast road between Tripoli and Zawia and other issues of contention between the two were also discussed.

Janzour’s relations with the neighbouring Wirshefana are also believed to have been a major point of discussion. Zintan and its Wirshefani allies are the main element in the pro-Libyan National Army (LNA) and pro-House of Representatives (HoR) bloc west of Tripoli. In addition, a significant proportion of Janzour residents are Wirshefanis although they are hardly represented on the municipal council which previously supported the former Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). alliance, opposed to the Wirshefana, Zintan, the LNA and the HoR.

Any bid by those in control of Janzour to reach an accommodation with the Wirshefana will be eased by improved relations with Zintan.

Meanwhile,

in a follow-up to last Saturday’s mediation efforts in the Wirshefana town of Zahra to secure the reopening of the coastal road between Zawia and Tripoli, mayors from a number of Jebel Nafusa and west coast towns were in Zawia yesterday to continue to try and find a solution to the issue.

Iranian boats harassed U.S. destroyer in Persian Gulf
[NAVYTIMES] Four Iranian boats approached a U.S. destroyer in the Persian Gulf in a dangerous stunt Tuesday, according to a Navy official.

The small Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy craft drove within within 300 yards of the destroyer Nitze, deployed with the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, near the Strait of Hormuz, said the official who was not authorized to speak on the record about the incident.

The Navy is calling the incident "unsafe and unprofessional," he said.

The destroyer tried various methods to communicate with the incoming four boats, he added. Radio calls, the ship's whistle, firing flares -- all to no response.

U.S. Supports Turkish conquest of Jarablus
Hurriyet has a slideshow of images from Wednesday's invasion here.

US military helps out as Turkey takes fight to IS-held Syrian town

[IsraelTimes] American air cover, intelligence and advisers help Turkish forces roll into Islamic State stronghold of Jarablus, as pro-Ankara Syrian rebels seize village of Keklijah.

The United States is providing Turkey’s military with air cover, intelligence and advisers in its offensive against the Islamic State (IS) group inside Syria, a senior US official said on Wednesday.

“We want to help the Turks get ISIL off the border” between the two countries, the official told reporters, using an alternative acronym for the IS group.

US advisers are communicating with the Turkish military about a plan to take the Syrian border town of Jarablus, a key IS stronghold that is a primary objective of the Turkish offensive, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The United States is “syncing up with them, our advisers are in the planning cell with them,” he said. “We’ll have close air support if there’s an operation” in Jarablus.

Taking Jarablus and IS-held town of al-Bab to the south would be a significant step toward linking up border areas under Kurdish control on both sides of the Euphrates.

Washington is also helping ensure that Kurdish fighters further south do not provoke a conflict with Turkish forces by moving north toward Jarablus, said the official, who was traveling with US Vice President Joe Biden. Biden arrived in Turkey on Wednesday for meetings with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, in an effort to help improve relations strained by Turkey’s coup d’etat attempt last month.

The Turkish operation — named “Euphrates Shield” — began early Wednesday with Turkish artillery pounding dozens of IS group targets around Jarablus, according to the Turkish prime minister’s office.

Turkish tanks and special forces accompanied by pro-Ankara Syrian rebels then rolled across the border in an unprecedented operation to drive the IS group out of the town from which it has fired rockets into Turkey.

Pro-Ankara Syrian rebels took the village of Keklijah three miles (five kilometers) west of Jarablus and two miles from the border, Turkish state media said, in the operation’s first reported military success.

The United States has made it clear to the Syrian Democratic Forces, a US-backed Kurdish and Arab alliance, that “we don’t and won’t support them going north, and they can’t without our air cover, so we’ve put a lid on them moving north,” the official went on. “I think we’ve put a lid on the Turks’ biggest concern (which) gives us breathing space to make sure the Jarablus operation is done the right way.”

Pictures of the fighting showed fighters facing little resistance as they rolled into Jarablus, amid reports that the city was quickly taken over.

But Wednesday’s dual-purpose operation puts Turkey on track for a confrontation with the US-backed Kurdish fighters in Syria, the most effective fighting force against IS in the area. Turkey is concerned about the growing clout of the group, which it says is linked to Kurdish groups waging an insurgency in southeastern Turkey.

A senior official with Syria’s largest Kurdish group suggested Turkey will pay the price. Saleh Muslim, the co-president of the Democratic Union Party or PYD, tweeted that “Turkey is in Syrian Quagmire. Will be defeated as Daesh” will be. He used the Arabic language acronym for IS.

The Syrian government condemned Wednesday’s Turkish incursion into the Islamic State group-held border district of Jarablus as a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty.

The foreign ministry said it “condemns the crossing of the Turkey-Syria border by Turkish tanks and armoured vehicles towards the town of Jarablus with air cover from the US-led coalition and considers it a flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty.

The Syrian opposition in exile, however, welcomed the intervention.

“Syria demands the end of this aggression,” the foreign ministry said. “Any party conducting a battle against terrorism on Syrian soil must do so in coordination with the Syrian government and the Syrian army who have been fighting this war for five years.

“Chasing out IS and replacing them with terrorist groups backed by Turkey is not fighting terrorism.”

In sharp contrast, the Istanbul-based opposition National Coalition hailed the Turkish intervention and stressed that rebel forces were doing the fighting on the ground.

It issued a statement welcoming “the support of Turkey and the international coalition for the military operation in Jarablus,” in which “the rebels are carrying out the combat operations.”
Ynet at 8 a.m.:
Turkish warplanes and US-led coalition aircraft have carried out four strikes on Islamic State targets, Turkish military sources said, as part of a joint operation to wipe out ISIS from the Syrian border town of Jarablus. A total of 63 targets have been fired at 224 times by Turkish artillery.

Ankara-backed Syria rebels: Jarablus 'liberated'

[AlArabiya] In an operation backed by Turkish shelling, Syrian rebels said on Wednesday that Jarablus in northern Syria on the Turkish border has been "libeated" from ISIS bad boy group.

"Jarablus is completely liberated," Ahmad Othman, commander of the Sultan Mourad rebel group, told AFP from the scene, while another rebel front man said ISIS fighters had fled towards Al-Bab, to the southwest.

Earlier, a rebel commander with the Failaq al-Sham group, who requested anonymity, told Rooters that most of ISIS fighters in Jarablus had pulled out, some of them surrendering. Another commander estimated up to 50 percent of the town was now under the control of the Turkish-backed rebels.

"ISIS (ISIS) fighters have withdrawn from several villages on the outskirts of Jarablus and are heading south towards the city of al Bab," the Failaq al Sham commander said.
That'd be al-Bab, where the force that liberated Manbij is headed.
How the Turks see Wednesday's events:
[Hurriyet] Syrian rebels captured villages inside Syria from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) as part of a Turkey-backed operation as the group advanced toward Jarablus, a key town that Ankara wants to cleanse of jihadists.

The Turkish Armed Forces began its cross-border “Euphrates Shield” operation early on Aug. 24 with aerial strikes and ground forces backed by strikes from rocket launchers, howitzers and tanks.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan vowed that the operation targeted “terrorist organizations such as Daesh [the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant - ISIL] and the PYD [Democratic Union Party].”

“We are determined to protect the territorial integrity of Syria and provide that this country is ruled under the will of its own people, using our opportunities, including directly handling the matter,” Erdoğan said while addressing a meeting in Ankara on Aug. 24.

The preparation for the operation started on Aug. 23 when Turkish Special Forces entered Syria briefly for marking key spots, Hürriyet has learned.

A second group of special forces accompanied the tanks when they rolled into Syrian soil.

Twenty tanks and nearly 20 armored vehicles advanced toward Jarablus in the operation, aiming to secure control over a 70-kilometer region.

Syrian rebels entered Syria from Turkey using a corridor opened by Turkish artillery fire.

At least 14 ISIL militants were killed in the operation, according to initial reports.

In a bid to prevent any friendly-fire causalities, the Turkmen groups fighting against ISIL wore blue arm bands while the Free Syrian Army (FSA) members wore red ones.

FSA fighters captured a total of four villages namely, Keklice, Kıvırcık, Elvaniye and Güğüncük, Doğan News Agency reported. An unconfirmed video showed Syrian rebels walking in central Jerablus.

Sources reported that Turkish tanks in Syrian territory blocked ISIL’s support routes, while Turkish F-16s and coalition jets pounded ISIL vehicles headed from the al-Bab region to support ISIL militants fighting in the Jarablus area. Some 5,000 FSA fighters, including groups from the Sultan Murat Brigade, Sukur al-Jeber, the Sham Front and Feylek al-Sham, reportedly advanced toward central Jarablus.

The mines planted by ISIL were removed as some trapped bombs were found in villages abandoned by the militants.

The operation marked the first time warplanes from Turkey had struck in Syria since November, when Ankara downed a Russian warplane near the border, and the first significant incursion by Turkish special forces since a brief operation to relocate the tomb of Suleyman Shah,
...the grandfather of the founder of the Ottoman Empire...
a revered Ottoman figure, in February 2015.

Shaboobs Attack Somali Military Base near Baidoa
Heavy fighting has been reported at a military base run by Somali National Army (SNA) forces in Goof-Gaduud, some 30Km north of Baidoa, the regional capital of Baay on Wednesday.

A Somali army colonel who did not want to be named said Al-Shabaab militants tried to storm the base, but were met with heavy response by the troops. No information on the casualties.

Fighting is reportedly continued for several hours. The exchange of the heavy and small fire used by the sides could be heard distances away from the area of the military base in Goof-Gaduud.

Ethiopian troops serving as part of the African Union force dispatched from nearby base and helped Somali troops repulse the Al Shabaab attack, according to the military official.

Arabia
Prime Minister Daghr says ‘Yemen needs to maintain its unity’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Yemen’s Prime Minister Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr stressed the need for the country to maintain its unity amid separatist protests in the south and the failure for reaching a breakthrough between its two warring sides.

Daghr stated that the issue of Yemen's unification as "complex" and one that will take time to tackle, and revealed that it was an issue that was addressed during the national dialogue conference.

"The political forces that attended the national dialogue agreed that Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
needs to maintain its unity, though restructuring it is a necessity," Daghr said in an interview with Egypt’s state-owned news site Ahram Online.

The Yemeni premier’s comments come amid demonstrations in the countries’ south calling for a secession from the Houthi-controlled north.

The Southern Mobility Movement, more commonly known as al-Hirak ‐ ’the movement’ in Arabic ‐ advocates for a return of the independence of south Yemen. From 1967 to 1990, South Yemen existed as an independent state, with the port-city of Aden as its capital. To the northwest was the Yemen Arab Republic, or North Yemen, with its capital in Sanaa.
