How a Blunder Unmasked 305 Russian GRU Agents
[VOA] The public identification this week of more than 300 suspected agents of Russia’s military intelligence service, the GRU, is being dubbed by security analysts the largest intelligence blunder in Russian post-Cold War history.

And the cause for the bungling comes down, they say, to the simple "human factor" of wanting to avoid traffic fines, including for drunken driving.

Prompted by the midweek disclosure by Dutch and British authorities of the identities of four Russian GRU operators accused of trying to hack the headquarters of the world's chemical weapons watchdog, the investigative journalism consortium Bellingcat subsequently trawled through a publicly available Russian traffic-records database to unearth the names and details of 305 other individuals thought to be working for the Russian intelligence agency.

Passport numbers and, in many cases, mobile telephone numbers were included in the vehicle registrations.

Bellingcat scrutinized the traffic database after one of the four GRU operatives named Thursday by the British and Dutch was found to have registered his Lada car in 2011 using the Moscow address of the GRU barracks housing his cyberespionage unit 26165.

The unit has been accused by Western authorities, including the U.S., of being responsible for a series of cyberattacks and the hacking of computer networks of international anti-doping agencies as well as organizations investigating Russia's use of chemical agents, including the alleged nerve-agent poisoning in the English town of Salisbury earlier this year of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia.

By searching for other vehicles registered to the same address Bellingcat came up with a list of 305 other individuals ranging in age from 27 to 53-years-old.

Flea-borne Typhus Epidemic Hits California
Legal Insurrection readers will recall that California, and other areas of the country with a significant homeless population, were hit with an epidemic of Hepatitis A last fall.

This year, Pasadena is reporting an epidemic of flea-borne typhus.

Twenty Pasadena residents have been confirmed to have typhus fever in 2018, a significant increase over past years, according to the city's health department.

Confirmed cases of the disease, spread to humans by infected fleas, normally number about one to five per year, the agency said Friday. The announcement comes a day after the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said it is investigating an outbreak of flea-borne typhus among downtown Los Angeles' homeless population.

Two years ago, L.A. County voters approved a $1.2 billion bond measure to build permanent housing for the homeless. But squalid camps are still popping up everywhere, so temporary shower stations are being opened.

Sadly, the open-arms approach doesn't seem to be contributing to public health. Downtown Los Angeles is also being impacted by an outbreak of typhus.

An outbreak of flea-borne typhus has hit downtown Los Angeles, the county Department of Public Health said Thursday. Health officials say they are investigating several cases of the disease that infected fleas can spread to humans, CBS Los Angeles reports.

While the fleas can come from cats, rats and opossums, pets and animals do not get sick from typhus.

In people, however, typhus can cause high fever, chills, headache and rash. It is not transmitted from person to person and can be treated with antibiotics.

"Although typhus normally occurs throughout L.A. County, we are observing several cases in the downtown Los Angeles area," Los Angeles County Health Officer Muntu Davis said in a statement. "We encourage pet owners to practice safe flea control and encourage all cities in the county to ensure maintenance of their trash clean-up and rodent control activities."

Flea-borne typhus (also called Murine typhus), is a disease caused by a bacteria called Rickettsia typhi. Murine typhus is spread to people through contact with infected fleas. People get sick with murine typhus when infected flea feces are rubbed into cuts or scrapes in the skin. Typhus fever can cause serious complications requiring lengthy hospitalization, and rarely, even death.

The first written recordings of typhus came in 1489 and were associated with the Spanish army's siege of Granada. High fevers, rashes, delirium, and gangrenous sores were reported; and the disease was routinely associated with warfare thereafter. The term typhus stems from the Greek word typhos, meaning "hazy," which refers the delirium some develop while infected.

Typhus is now considered to be endemic only in certain areas of the world, including Eastern Africa and a few areas in South and Central America. However, that status might change unless California addresses the trash-filled squalor of its homeless camps more seriously.

Other areas with significant homeless populations may want to prepare for a local typhus outbreak. The Hepatitis A outbreak shows that diseases associated with homeless populations will spread.

Homeless in Portland: A deepening crisis on the streets of America
[BBC] They seem to be almost everywhere, in places old and new, no age spared. Sleeping on cardboard or bare ground, the homeless come together under bridges and trees, their belongings in plastic bags symbolising lives on the move.

Many have arrived on the streets just recently, victims of the same prosperity that has transformed cities across the US West Coast. As officials struggle to respond to this growing crisis, some say things are likely to get worse.

Vibrant Portland, Oregon's largest city, has long lured many. It is the City of Roses, of pleasant climate, rich culture and progressive thinking. It is also an innovation hub, part of what is called Silicon Forest, and new residents have moved here in these post-recession years attracted by its high-tech companies and their well-paid jobs.

But the bonanza, unsurprisingly, has not come to everyone.

On Africa Trip, First Lady Reveals a Trump-like Side
[The characteristically disgusting NYT] CAIRO ‐ Back home, Washington was in turmoil, but the first lady had something on her mind.

On one of the most consequential days of her husband’s embattled presidency, as the Senate approved his controversial choice for the Supreme Court, Melania Trump traveled to the edge of this sand-colored city and posed before the Great Sphinx, one hand in the pocket of her men’s-wear-inspired ensemble. Standing with her back against the enigmatic monument, the equally enigmatic first lady did something unusual: She spoke up for herself.

"I wish people would focus on what I do," an exasperated Mrs. Trump said in rare comments to reporters, "not what I wear."

Then came the fashion show.

Dressed in a tan blazer, a white shirt and black tie, and palazzo pants, Mrs. Trump stood in the wind against the desertscape. As dancers performed and music played, she adjusted her jacket (Ralph Lauren), pulled her hat (Chanel) down over her eyes, and ensured that every angle was captured as her tour through Ghana, Malawi, Kenya and Egypt came to a close on Saturday.

It was a striking moment for a first lady who, perhaps more than any other in modern times, has been happy to be a walking contradiction. It also felt like a message to old acquaintances who have boxed her out of her glamorous past life because of their opposition to her husband. Stormy Daniels may get an embrace from Anna Wintour, but Mrs. Trump still has the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Wisconsin Student Outraged Because Terrorism Course Discusses Jihad
[PJ] How divorced from reality are our nation’s college and university campuses today? This divorced from reality: a terrorism class at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has become the focus of controversy for daring to discuss Islamic jihad in connection with terrorism. The connection between Islamic jihad and terrorism is as obvious as the fact that water is wet, but not on campus today.

"Lectures slated for October," the College Fix reported Wednesday, "include topics such as ’Islam and the West,’ ’The origins of Jihad,’ ’Al Qaida,’ ’9/11,’ ’The Islamic State’ and ’Jihad in Africa,’ according to a syllabus screenshot."

That all seems fairly straightforward -- but only in the real world, not at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State do exist, 9/11 did happen, and there is jihad activity against the West and in Africa. However, Muslim student Ali Khan "took to social media to express outrage over the content of ’Political Science 347: Terrorism’ and the way the professor approached the subject."

Khan fumed that the class represented "an American exceptionalism perspective to advance a zionist, orientalist, and/or neocolonialist agenda." He added: "You cannot define terrorism singularly by the actions of terrorist groups or non-state actors without including state-sponsored terrorism," a clear indication that he wanted the class to discuss supposed Israeli terrorism.

Salvini to ‘Close Airports' if EU or Germany Try to Fly Illegal Migrants to Italy
[Breitbart] Italy’s interior minister has vowed to close the country’s airports if Germany follows through with reported plans to send dozens of asylum-seekers back to Italy.

Matteo Salvini tweeted Sunday: "We’ll close our airports like we closed the [sea]ports." Since Salvini became interior minister in June, the Italian government has blocked migrant ’rescue’ ships operated by NGOs from docking in Italian ports.

Italian news reports have said Berlin was planning to put some migrants on charter flights from Germany to Italy. European Union rules require asylum seekers to be processed in the country they reach first, which often is Italy due to its location.

Neither Italian nor German officials have confirmed that any such flights are planned.

Now AfD and the other populist political parties just need to come to terms with the fact that male circumcision and stun-free slaughter is merely different rather than cruel, and pursuing banning them will drive out the native, law-abiding Jews as well as the non-native Muslims.

NBC Dumps Reporter Who Wore MAGA Hat While Covering a Trump Rally
[Townhall] A reporter who worked for NBC affiliate KTTC-TV in Minnesota was fired on Friday for sporting a "Make America Great Again" hat while covering a Trump rally.

Jim Bunner, one of the station's multimedia journalists, covered the Trump rally in Rochester, Minnesota on Thursday. While at the rally he wore a red MAGA hat and a jacket with the station's logo.

The very next day, Bunner was let go.

REPORT: The Dem Staffer Arrested For Doxxing Republican Senators WASN'T An Intern
[DailyWire] A Democratic staffer arrested last week on charges that he revealed the personal information of several Republican Senate Judiciary Committee members was not an "intern" for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), as originally reported. The 27-year-old career staffer, Jackson Cosko, was, instead, reportedly a "fellow"
Traveller?
paid by an "outside institution" who served as a primary adviser in Lee's Congressional office.

According to the Tennessee Star, "[w]hile [Lee] claims Cosko was an 'unpaid intern' in her office, the Washington Post reports that Cosko was actually a 'fellow.' This was confirmed by Cosko’s lawyer, who said his client was a 'fellow' in Jackson-Lee’s office and that he was being paid by an 'outside institution.'"

The "outside institution" has yet to be named, but the position of "fellow" is much different from that of "intern." According to correspondence from Lee's office, Cosko was routinely trusted to advise Lee and communicate with other members of Congress, specifically those co-sponsoring Lee's bills.

As the Tennessee Star points out, that raises questions: "It seems clear Cosko isn’t some unlucky and overzealous intern who got caught being a naughty boy. Rather, it seems Cosko might be a Democratic operative, paid by an outside organization, planted in an unpopular congresswoman’s office possibly so he could engage in exactly the type of behavior that just got him arrested."

Cosko was arrested last week after federal investigators discovered he was responsible for editing a Wikipedia article revealing the personal names, addresses, and phone numbers of several Republican senators, almost immediately after Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) concluded a fiery speech defending then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Fox News reports that Cosko is currently charged with "publishing restricted personal information, threats in interstate communication, unauthorized access of a government computer, identity theft, witness tampering, second degree burglary, and unlawful entry." He may also face charges for a separate threat he allegedly issued to a fellow Congressional aide, threatening to reveal the names, social security numbers, and health information of an unnamed senator's children.
Will someone follow the $?

Former Secretaries of State Albright, Powell blast Trump on Russia, family separations
[CNN] Former Secretaries of State Madeline Albright and Colin Powell criticized President Donald Trump's handling of US foreign relations in an interview that aired Sunday on CNN, with Albright slamming what she called Trump's "kinship" with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Powell calling for the US to "speak firmly with respect to Russian actions" and to end family separations.

When asked on "Fareed Zakaria GPS" about whether she had ever seen another president say things that contradict his administration's policy towards another country the way Trump has done with regard to Russia, Albright said she had not.

"And the decision-making process simply does not work," Albright said. "The President goes and does his own thing, then somebody says, 'He meant to say' ..."

Pompeo pats himself in the back for ‘another step forward’ in N Korea ties
[PRESSTV] The administration of US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
is boasting about "another step forward" in negotiations with North Korea.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Sunday that he and North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
have made progress towards denuclearization of the Asian country.

After several hours in Pyongyang on his fourth visit to North Korea, Pompeo refused to specify any details about the progress despite a request by South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

"I dearly hope that your latest visit, as well as the upcoming U.S.-North Korea summit, which I hope will be happening soon, will make an irreversible, decisive progress in terms of the denuclearization as well as the grinding of the peace processor," Moon said. "Since we have the media present here, I would like to ask you to disclose anything that you can open to the public here."

North Korea won’t give in to US pressure: Analyst
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s trip to North Korea is another desperate attempt by Washington to pressure Pyongyang into giving up its military capabilities, says a former US Army officer.

Scott Bennett, a former US Army psychological warfare officer and counter-terrorism analyst, made the remarks while discussing the perceived thaw between the US and North Korea.

Pompeo held talks with the North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
for nearly two hours on Sunday morning followed by a lunch in the North's capital, before flying to Seoul on a whirlwind diplomatic visit to the region.

The North Korean leader agreed to hold a second summit with US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
as soon as possible, few months after the two leaders met in Singapore.

Kim agreed in that meeting that he would indeed stop his country’s nuclear weapon and ballistic missile programs. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
the North would only do that when the US holds up to its own end of the deal.

"The trip to North Korea that Mike Pompeo is taking of course is a desperate attempt to try to regain the political advantage and pressure the North Koreans to continue down the path of surrendering their nuclear weapons," Bennett told Press TV on Sunday.

He said Washington is hoping that Pyongyang would warm up to the idea that cooperating with the US allows it to enter the "American orbit of economic prosperity."

Ukraine proposes criminalizing dual Russian citizenship
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Pavlo Klimkin, is ready to support the introduction in the country of criminal responsibility for dual citizenship with Russia. He stated this on October 5 in the air of the TV channel "UA: Kharkov".

“I believe that we need a new law on citizenship, but with any ideas that we need to discuss, I’m strongly against even the idea of legalizing dual citizenship with the Russian Federation,” the minister said.

According to Klimkin, all cases of obtaining Russian citizenship by Ukrainian citizens "must be investigated by the special services."

As REGNUM news agency reported , a scandal broke out in Ukraine in September after it became known that the consul of Hungary gave Ukrainian citizens Hungarian passports in Transcarpathia. After that, Pavel Klimkin stated that it was necessary to hold a “thorough discussion on the issue of dual citizenship” in the country.

China-Japan-Koreas
Interpol chief Meng Hongwei under investigation, China says
[PRESSTV] China's antigraft watchdog said late on Sunday that the Chinese authorities were investigating Meng Hongwei, the head of the global law enforcement organization Interpol who had been reported missing, for suspected violations of the law.

Meng, who is also a vice minister of public security in China, had been reported missing by his wife after travelling last month from La Belle France, where Interpol is based, to China.

"Public Security Ministry Vice Minister Meng Hongwei is currently under investigation by the National Supervisory Commission for suspected violations of law," the Chinese anti-graft body said in a brief statement on its website.

The statement was the first from China since Meng's disappearance had been reported in La Belle France on Friday.

When asked about the Chinese announcement on Sunday, La Belle France's Interior Ministry said it had no information.

The French ministry said on Friday that Meng's family had not heard from him since Sept. 25, and the French authorities said his wife had been placed under police protection after receiving threats.

French police have been investigating what is officially termed in La Belle France a "worrying disappearance".

Interpol had said on Friday it had asked Beijing to clarify Meng's situation. The organization had no immediate comment on Sunday.

Earlier on Sunday, the wife of Meng Hongwei urged national governments to intervene, saying she feared that her husband's life was in danger.

IDF fires at Gazans launching incendiary balloons at Israel
[IsraelTimes] No word on casualties in strike near Rafah; balloon with bomb affixed lands on kibbutz fence; 5 fires rage in other Israeli communities due to arson attacks

An Israeli aircraft on Sunday evening carried out an Arclight airstrike in the southern Gazoo Strip against a group of Paleostinians launching incendiary balloons towards Israel, the army said.

Paleostinians said the strike took place near the city of Rafah. It was not immediately clear if there were casualties.

Gazooks frequently launch incendiary kites and balloons into Israel, sparking fires that have destroyed forests, burned crops, and killed livestock. Thousands of acres of land have been burned, causing millions of shekels in damages, according to Israeli officials. Some balloons have carried improvised bombs.

Earlier on Sunday, Channel 10 news reported that a bomb was found attached to a balloon that landed near the fence of a kibbutz in southern Israel. It was defused by sappers.

Firefighters have also worked to extinguish five blazes caused by an incendiary balloons near Israeli towns along the Gazoo Strip since Sunday morning, a front man for the Israeli Fire and Rescue Services said.

Afghanistan
Afghanistan signs major mining deals in development push
KABUL: Afghan officials have signed contracts for two major mining projects in northern Afghanistan, pushing ahead with plans to develop the country’s mineral reserves but drawing criticism over the involvement of a former minister in the project.

The deals were signed in Washington on Friday with mining and investment group Centar and its operating company Afghan Gold and Minerals Co. to develop two sites in Badakhshan and Sar-e Pul provinces with potentially major gold and copper deposits.

The deals, reviving projects that have been stalled for years, follow a push by US and Afghan authorities to develop mineral resources estimated to be worth some $1 trillion and seen as vital to building a functioning economy in Afghanistan after four decades of war.

Russian Army draft numbers decline as draft dodging decreases
The number of people who evade conscription in Russia has halved in comparison with 2016. The head of the Main Organizational-Mobilization Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Lieutenant-General Yevgeny Burdinsky told the Rossiyskaya Gazeta in an interview on October 6.

Burdinsky said that 132,500 people would be drafted into the army this fall. This is less than what was called out last fall (134,000), but more than what was called up this spring (128,000).

Burdinsky particularly noted that the number of draft dodgers from military draft reduced by 53% compared with the spring of 2016. The Lieutenant-General believes that this is due to the adoption of measures at the state level to increase the attractiveness of military service and improve the conditions for passing it to draftees.

UN Says 8 Aid Workers Killed, 12 Others Injured In Somalia By September
[RADIOSHABELLE] Attacks on aid workers delivering supplies in Somalia resulted in the death of eight staff and injuries of 12 others between January and September, the UN humanitarian agency said in a report on Friday.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said some 90 violent incidents have impacted humanitarian organizations, resulting in the abduction of 18 people and the arrest and temporary detention of 13 others.

"Collateral damage from terrorist attacks in populated areas of Mogadishu has continued to account for the majority of the deaths and injuries, as well as for the destruction of humanitarian facilities and assets," said the UN agency in its September humanitarian report.

The OCHA decried the number of violent incidents affecting humanitarian organizations in Somalia, saying it has remained high.

The Horn of Africa nation has been mired in conflict since civil war broke out in 1991 and is one of the most difficult countries for relief agencies to operate in.

The terrorist group al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
has been targeting humanitarian workers, sometimes demanding ransom in order to free the hostages, according to media reports.

The UN report said the volatile security situation continues to impact on civilian lives and create a challenging environment for the delivery of humanitarian assistance, saying active hostilities in Lower Shabelle continue to cause displacements and disrupt humanitarian programming.

His wife has since reported him missing.

"Interpol has requested through official law enforcement channels clarification from China’s authorities on the status of Interpol President Meng Hongwei," Jurgen Stock, the secretary-general of the international police body said in a statement.

"Interpol’s General Secretariat looks forward to an official response from China’s authorities to address concerns over the President’s well-being."

Saudi cleric close to MBS calls for 'peace' trip to Israel
[PRESSTV] A Saudi holy man with close ties to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
...Crown Prince of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
as of 2016....

(MBS) has called on faith leaders to travel to Jerusalem al-Quds in a bid to promote "peace" with Israel.

Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Issa, head of the Moslem World League, made the controversial proposal in New York on the sidelines of an annual conference for "Cultural Rapprochement Between the US and the Moslem World" in New York.

"We should send a peace convoy that is representative of all three Abrahamic religions. They should be Moslem, Christian and Jewish and they should visit all holy sites," he told Fox News.

"They should meet everyone and find common ground, and they should provide fertile ground to find solutions for peace."

He also claimed that a possible Jerusalem al-Quds meeting is meant "to keep snuffies from taking any advantage of any intellectual holes that they can use to promote their Death Eater ideologies."

Saudi Arabia has hostile ties with resistance movements in the Paleostinian territories, including Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, which is fighting the Israeli occupation.

Issa's remarks further reflect a quiet warming of relations between the regimes in Riyadh and Tel Aviv.

In his comments, the holy man who was formerly the Saudi justice minister noted that the "peace" delegation should only be made up of religious leaders not political figures.

Syrian Army cuts off ISIS terrorists from crucial water sources
[ALMASDARNEWS] The government forces continue to crack down on bully boyz based near the strategic heights of Tulul al-Safa in southern Syria’s al-Suwayda desert. The military operation is due to be wrapped up before the end of this fall.

As a result of the Syrian Army’s ongoing offensive on terrorist bases in the vicinity of the al-Suwayda desert in the country’s south, jihadists have been cut off from recent freshwater supplies.

After losing access to major sources of water, the turbans were substantially weakened and no longer able to offer much resistance to government troops’ attacks.

In late September, the Syrian Army liberated about six square kilometers (3.7 miles) of the problematic mountainous area, where many fortified bad boy positions were discovered, along with arms and a food warehouse, as well as a medical aid post.

In August, the Russian General Staff confirmed that the Syrian government had successfully restored control over the provinces of al-Suwayda, Daraa and Quneitra in the southern part of the country.

Control was established in part due to efforts by the Russian Reconciliation Center, which convinced some of the turbans to lay down their weapons and either move to Idlib province to reunite with their families or to join the fight against ISIS* and other terrorist groups.

Justice Kav ‘Gang Rape-Rooms' Fantasist Julie Swetnick: A Vetted, Decorated US Government Worker
[BarelyABlog] The most preposterous of Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s accusers was Julie Swetnick, who is or was a career federal-government employee and a "decorated" one at that.

What does this tell Americans about the quality of the civil servants in their government?

You might counter that the Swetnick case is an isolated incident, but the following is axiomatic; we all know this to be true:

The American government is riddled with set-asides, preferential hiring practices and affirmative action, which compromise an already compromised institution (The State).

NYP:
Swetnick holds "active clearances" for her work with the US Department of Treasury, US Mint and Internal Revenue Service.

She said she also previously had security clearances with the US Department of State, Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection.

An active security clearance means Swetnick has been subjected to a stringent background investigation that deemed her qualified to have access to "classified national security information ... so long as the person has a need to know the information," according to the State Department website.

More shameful is that The Economist (a real news organization) was uncritical about Swetnick’s credentials. If they were minted by the US government, well then, her credentials must be stand for something:

The Syrian leader made the remarks in a meeting of the central committee of the ruling al-Baath Arab Socialist Party in the capital Damascus on Sunday, saying that all the fuss about Idlib "stems from the fact that it is a fateful thing for them, because the Syrians’ victory in it will lead to the failure of their plans."

Kim Jong-un agrees to second Trump summit 'as soon as possible'
[Al Jazeera] Kim Pudge Jong-un

has agreed to hold a second summit with US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
"as soon as possible", South Korea said, after Washington's top diplomat held "productive" talks on denuclearisation with the North Korean leader in Pyongyang.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met Kim on Sunday morning for around two hours of talks followed by lunch in the North Korean capital, before flying to Seoul as part of his three-day East Asia tour aimed at breaking a deadlock on nuclear negotiations.

Pompeo said "he agreed with Chairman Kim to hold the second US-North Korea summit at the earliest date possible," according to a statement by South Korea's presidential office, although no specific time or location has yet been announced.

The US Department of State said Pompeo and Kim had "refined options" for the location and date of the summit.

The two also discussed "denuclearisation steps that will be taken by North Korea and the issue of attendance by the US government," as well as "corresponding measures" to be taken by the US, the South Korean statement said.

The visit was Pompeo's fourth to Pyongyang, who hailed the meeting with the North Korean leader as a success.

#1  You know the State Department is working overtime behind the scenes to sabotage everything they can and avoid Trump getting a win.

It's a pity, it seems like the right time for North Korea to come in from the cold. But they're SO useful to globalists because they enable US troop presence where they otherwise wouldn't be.

Turkish police believe disappeared Saudi journalist to be dead
[ALMASDARNEWS] Prominent Saudi journalist and Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi went missing after visiting the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul earlier. The journalist entered the consulate; however, the Ottoman Turkish officials said that no proof has been found that Khashoggi left the mission. Riyadh assured that he left the premises the same day.

Two sources told Rooters that Ottoman Turkish authorities believe that Jamal Khashoggi was killed inside the consulate. Hours later, Saudi consulate in Istanbul denied that the journalist was killed at the consulate, Rooters reported.

"The initial assessment of the Ottoman Turkish police is that Mr. Khashoggi has been killed at the consulate of Soddy Arabia

stated that he was ready to allow The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Interpol chief Meng Hongwei resigns after detention in China
[Al Jazeera] La Belle France has received the resignation of Meng Hongwei as president of Interpol with immediate effect, according to the international police agency.

The development came on Sunday shortly after China said Meng, who went missing 12 days ago, was under investigation for unspecified violations of Chinese law.

The National Supervisory Commission, which handles corruption cases involving public servants, said in a statement that Meng "is currently under investigation on suspicion of violating the law."

Earlier on Sunday, Meng Hongwei's wife, Grace, said her husband sent her an image of a knife before he disappeared during a trip to their native China.

Making her first public comments on the issue, Grace Meng told news hounds in Lyon, La Belle France, that she thought the knife was her husband's way of trying to tell her he was in danger.

She said she has had no further contact with him since the message that was sent on September 25. Grace also said four minutes before Meng shared the image, he had sent a message saying: "Wait for my call."

India suspends bus driver for letting a monkey ‘drive’
[DAWN] BANGALORE: An Indian bus driver who let a monkey behind the wheel of his vehicle was suspended on Saturday after a video of the incident went viral, sparking outrage and humour.

The 36-year-old driver is seen smiling and patting the langur monkey as it sits atop the wheel of the moving bus in footage shot by a passenger.

"Driver M Prakash has been taken off duty for allowing the monkey to sit on the steering wheel and handle it," T. S. Latha, a spokesperson for the government’s road transport corporation in southern Karnataka state said.

"Passengers’ safety is paramount and the driver cannot risk it by allowing a monkey on the steering." The incident took place on Monday but authorities only learnt of it after the video was shared on social media, Latha added.

There were around 30 passengers on the bus at the time and none of them complained.

Local media reports say the langur boarded with a passenger and was at the wheel for almost ten minutes.

The bus was on its regular trip around Davangere, around 170 miles (270 kilometres) from regional capital Bangalore, when the incident took place.

"So sweet. Why suspend. He should have been warned not to repeat this," tweeted Parag Heda.

Another local quipped that the driver was in the wrong profession.

"Good that action is taken and he suspended, but clearly he is in wrong job. This man is a sensitive animal lover (see how langur trusts him) and could be an asset in wildlife related jobs," he said.

The state transport authority said an investigation was being conducted.

Under Trump, US admits fewest refugees since 1980, leaving thousands stranded
[IsraelTimes] Death threats drove Hadi Mohammed out of Iraq and to a small apartment in Nebraska, where he and his two young sons managed to settle as refugees. But the danger hasn’t been enough to allow his wife to join them.

Mohammed, who worked as a security guard for the US military in Baghdad, says he was initially told his wife would be reunited with him and the boys within a month. The wait has now dragged on for more than a year as she goes through stricter screening imposed by the Trump administration.

Tens of thousands of people are experiencing similar anguished waits as the number of refugees entering the US falls to historic lows because of tighter scrutiny that administration officials say is necessary for security. Critics say it amounts to an abandonment of the country’s historic humanitarian role and discriminates against certain groups, particularly Moslems.

Dems Latest Scheme: ‘Balance' Supreme Court by Adding Two Liberal Judges
[Breitbart] Following the confirmation of President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh, some Democrats and progressive activists are shifting tactics, pushing a scheme to "pack" or "balance" the Supreme Court by adding two new seats to be filled by liberal judges. The Supreme Court expansion plot would be enacted if Democrats retake Congress and the presidency in 2020, according to the plan.

On Saturday, Vice’s West Coast editor Harry Cheadle referenced the plot in a piece titled, "We’re Watching the Slow Poisoning of the Supreme Court."

Pakistan may go to IMF to address economic woes, says PM Imran Khan
[PRESSTV] Pak Prime Minister Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality problems...
says the country might need to return to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to address its mounting balance of payments crisis and economic woes.

"We may go to IMF for loan to handle the country’s financial issues," Khan told news hounds in eastern city of Lahore on Sunday.

The premier, however, said that Islamabad would seek funding from friendly countries first. Khan did not name the countries or provide any details of the requests.

"But, first we will try to get assistance from other countries as we have requested three countries to deposit money in Pakistain’s State Bank that would help boost national reserves."

Last week, the IMF concluded a consultative visit with a warning that Pakistain needed to quickly secure "significant external financing" to stave off a crisis.

Any IMF bailout would likely include conditions to curb government spending. The IMF's demands could threaten Khan’s campaign promise to build an Islamic welfare state.

Finance Minister Asad Umar earlier said foreign reserves need to be boosted by at least $8 billion. But foreign reserves dropped by $627 million in late September to $8.4 billion. The weekly fall was the sharpest in years.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Rebels Say Pullout of Heavy Arms from Syria Buffer Zone to Last Days
[AnNahar] The withdrawal by rebels of their heavy weapons from a planned buffer zone in northwestern Syria is due to last several days, a Ottoman Turkish-backed alliance of fighters said Sunday.

The National Liberation Front (NLF) announced Saturday that it has begun withdrawing heavy arms from the zone as part of an agreement between Syrian regime ally Russia and rebel backer The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
The accord, reached on September 17, aims to stave off a massive regime assault on Idlib province, the last major rebel bastion in Syria, by creating a 15 to 20-kilometer (9-12 mile) buffer zone ringing the area.

All rebels in the demilitarized zone must withdraw heavy arms by Wednesday, and radical groups must leave by October 15, under the deal.

"We began to withdraw our heavy weapons from the demilitarized zone to rear positions," NLF front man Naji Mustafa told AFP.

"The operation will last several days," he said, adding that the weapons will be held by fighters deployed in positions outside the demilitarized zone.

The NLF is the main Turkey-backed rebel alliance in the Idlib region, but jihadist heavyweight Hayat Tahrir al-Sham
(HTS) holds most of the province and the zone.

HTS, led by former al-Qaeda gunnies, has yet to announce its stance on the buffer zone deal.

On Saturday, a media front man for Faylaq al-Sham, one of the NLF factions, confirmed the withdrawal of arms.

Seif Raad said it included pulling back missile launchers, tanks and mortars.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor said the withdrawal of weapons had already started a week ago and would continue for several more days.

Weapons were pulled back in rebel-held areas in the north of Hama province on the border with Idlib and had also been shifted in Idlib province, the Britannia-based monitor said.

Turkey has deployed troops in "observation posts" it set up in rebel-held areas of Idlib and neighboring Aleppo province in recent weeks.

Weak passwords banned in California from 2020
[BBC] Default passwords such as "admin" and "password" will be illegal for electronics firms to use in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, from 2020.

The state has passed a law that sets higher security standards for net-connected devices made or sold in the region.

It demands that each gadget be given a unique password when it is made.

Before now, easy-to-guess passwords have helped some cyber-attacks spread more quickly and cause more harm.

The Information Privacy: Connected Devices bill demands that electronics manufacturers equip their products with "reasonable" security features.

This can mean a unique password or a start-up procedure that forces users to generate their own code when using the gadget for the first time.

The bill also allows customers who suffer harm when a company ignores the law to sue for damages.

#8  Actually not that bad of an idea. Weak passwords and security protocols have allowed the botnet to sweep up a lot of routers and take them over.

Most people aren't security minded and just leave the weak security in place and companies haven't done anything because they don't give a shit.

#9  companies haven't done anything because they don't give a shit.

And why should they? I'm a great believer in individual responsibility. The only reason I don't hate this is that weak passwords that allow hacking effects a lot more people than the idiot that put in the weak password.
Posted by: AlanC || 10/08/2018 9:38 Comments || Top||

#10  Stopping botNets is a lot like vaccination.

I think ISPs should be constantly trying to hack their customers and shutting them off if they don't patch.

#11  With the Linux operating system, the system administrator can control settings that force users to select passwords with a certain minimum length that include upper and lower case letters, numeric and special characters. We used to have security audits all the time and had to confirm that those settings were in place. It doesn't mean that Jerry Brown knows your password.

Having said that, your password won't matter if the chips on the motherboard send it to China.

#12  35 years ago we'd get notices every week from Admin to change our passwords to something 10 characters or longer etc. etc. blah blah blah.

Only problem was that damn near every terminal had a sticky note on it with the new password.

be careful what you ask for.......

Why don't more women major in science in college? It's simple numbers, if you have fewer women scientists fewer are likely to win the Nobel prize in science.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
‘Space junk?' What is the ‘foamy' mystery object that washed ashore on an SC beach?
[Charlotte Observer] A mystery came out of the ocean on South Carolina’s Seabrook Island, and authorities haven’t yet identified what some are calling "space junk."

The Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network was the first to notice, posting a photo on Facebook of a "mysterious object that washed ashore" on Thursday. The island is about 24 miles south of Charleston.

The object is big, taller than a woman standing nearby, and it’s cylindrical.

It also looks like it’s made of concrete, but Marine Mammal network officials say that’s deceiving. Touch it and it feels like "a soft foam," said the network, adding that it was quickly whisked away by town officials.

Iran MPs pass controversial bill on fighting terror financing
[PRESSTV] The Iranian parliament has passed a bill on combating the financing of terrorism as part of the country's implementation of international standards set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

The combating the financing of terrorism (CFT) bill, one of four put forward by the government to meet FATF demands, was passed on Sunday by 143 votes to 120, according to the ISNA news agency.

To become law, however, Iran's oversight Guardian Council should vet the bill for compliance with the Constitution.

Back in June, the Gay Paree-based FATF gave Iran until October to implement its standards in order to remove Tehran from investment blacklists. The group also warned Tehran of "appropriate and necessary actions" if it does not enact amendments in full compliance with its standards.
