Pittsburgh: Active Shooter Confirmed Near Tree of Lights Synagogue In Squirrel Hill. Update: 8 dead, shooter arrested
SQUIRREL HILL, Pa. (KDKA) ‐ There is an active shooting in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood near The Tree of Life Synagogue on Saturday.

Police from across the city have descended to the area, that is still very active. The synagogue is located on the corner of Wilkens and Shady Avenues.

KDKA is working to confirm more details of the incident.
Update from the same link at 12:55 p.m. ET:
Eight people have been killed and a number of others injured after a shooting situation at The Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill on Saturday.

KDKA’s Meghan Schiller reports that a suspect, a heavy-set white male with a beard, has surrendered. The SWAT team had been talking with the suspect, and he was crawling and injured. It is unclear the extent of his injuries.

KDKA sources confirm to Andy Sheehan that the suspect’s name is Robert Bowers.

Pittsburgh Police spokesman Chris Togneri confirmed that the suspect was in custody and three police officers had been shot. He also confirmed multiple causalities, but did not divulge exactly how many.

Police sources tell KDKA’s Andy Sheehan the gunman walked into the building and yelled, “All Jews must die.”

Palestinian militants agree truce after exchange of fire with Israel
[Reuters] GAZA/JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Palestinian militants said on Saturday they would halt attacks into Israel from the Gaza Strip after they fired the heaviest rocket salvoes across the border since August.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad, one of the armed groups that operates in Gaza, said it fired the rockets in retaliation for Israel’s killing of four Palestinian protesters on Friday.

Israel in response struck dozens of targets in the Gaza Strip on Saturday.

A spokesman for the militants said an Egyptian-mediated truce had been reached.

"After contacts between the Islamic Jihad leadership and the brothers in Egypt it was agreed that a comprehensive ceasefire will begin immediately," spokesman Daoud Shehab said. "The Islamic Jihad will abide by the ceasefire if the occupation (Israel) does the same."

Egyptian security officials have been talking separately to Israeli and Palestinian leaders in an attempt to restore calm along the border.

An Israeli military spokeswoman declined comment on Shehab’s remarks and there was no immediate response from other Israeli officials. Israel rarely acknowledges it has reached a truce with Gaza’s militant groups which it designates as terrorist organizations.

Earlier, Israeli military spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Jonathan Conricus accused Syria and Iran of involvement in the rocket attack.

The young black Americans backing Trump (video)
[BBC] Young black conservatives wore Make America Great Again caps and chanted the president's name at the White House.

Mr Trump won just 8% of the African American vote in the 2016 presidential election and critics accuse him of stoking racial tensions.

But he told the activists that the black community was more interested in the economy than race.

Obama Ridicules Fears Over Migrant Caravans Headed to US (Video)
[Gateway Pundit] Campaigning in Wisconsin on Friday for Democrats running in next month’s mid-term elections, former President Barack Obama ridiculed Americans who are fearful of the migrant caravans headed to the United States via Mexico and the politicians who are making stopping mass illegal immigration a campaign issue.

Several caravans comprised of thousands of migrants mostly from Central America are currently making their way from Honduras through Guatemala and on into Mexico with the goal of claiming asylum in the United States.

Obama spoke in a haughty, comedic voice, raising his pitch and using his arms and hands to make exaggerated points of ridicule.

Mexican Police Stop Buses and Trucks – Force Them to Take Caravan Immigrants North to US Border
[Gateway Pundit] The illegal immigrant caravan of mostly military-aged Honduran males has swelled to over 14,000 people as it marches up Mexico to the US border.

The DHS confirmed this week that gang members and other dangerous criminals are embedded in the caravan.

Migrants from the Middle East, Africa and South Asia have also latched onto the caravan, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

President Trump declared a national emergency Monday morning and announced that he will begin cutting off aid to Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala as the migrant caravan marches through Mexico up to the U.S. border.

But new video shows Mexican police stopping buses and trucks and forcing them to carry caravan immigrants north to the US border.

Iranian boats shadow U.S. warship, a reminder of potential for confrontation at sea
[WAPO] Iranian boats closely shadowed an American warship in the Persian Gulf on Friday, underscoring the potential for renewed maritime hostility between the United States and Iran.

Two fast attack boats under the command of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps came within 300 yards of the USS Essex during a visit by Gen. Joseph Votel, who commands U.S. forces in the Middle East. A reporter from The Washington Post observed the boats as they sped near the amphibious assault ship, currently the largest U.S. ship in the gulf.

The incident, which did not appear linked to the general’s visit, illustrates the delicate course the U.S. military must navigate as the Trump administration ratchets up pressure on Tehran and prepares to reimpose punishing sanctions.

The Iranian boats trailed the Essex, but U.S. officials said they did not undertake the same level of threatening behavior Iranian boats have in the past.

Germany's far-right Reichsbürger movement doubles in two years: government
[DW] The size of a radical movement that rejects the legitimacy of the modern German state has grown to 19,000. Authorities have stepped up efforts to crack down on the far-right extremists, some of whom are armed.

The number of people known to be active in Germany's Reichsburger (Reich Citizen) and Selbstverwalter (Sovereign Citizen) movements has almost doubled to 19,000 over the past two years, the Interior Ministry admitted on Friday.

The ministry acknowledges that up to 950 members have been categorized as right-wing extremists.

It was responding to a question in Germany's Bundestag from the Green party about the group's membership and its most radical members.

#2  I wish we'd ditch the left-right labels in favor of a list of several categories (degree of govt oversight in the marketplace, degree of govt control of education, what level of backstop for the unfortunate, and so on). I'm not always sure what "right" means in American politics, and I've no clue at all what it means in Germany.
And, of course, sometimes issues are so local that there isn't a good translation to our disagreements.

Leaders of Russia, Germany, France, Turkey to discuss Syrian settlement in Istanbul
[TASS] MOSCOW, October 27. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin will arrive in Instanbul on Saturday to participate in the quadrilateral summit on Syrian settlement along with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The leaders will gather in this format for the first time. Such a format is not conceived as an alternative to other consultations on Syria, but will instead allow to compare positions on the solution of the common problem - restoration of peace and stability in Syria.

UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, who will leave his post at the end of November, will also arrive in Istanbul on Saturday to brief the participants in the summit on the recent developments. De Mistura said earlier that he wants to remind the four leaders that after localizing the problem in Idlib, an international consensus is necessary to support UN actions on establishing a constitutional committee.

The Turkish president was the first to come forward with a proposal to hold a quadrilateral summit. Russia supported this initiative. In mid-September, aides on international issues to the leaders of Russia, Germany, Turkey and France met to discuss the substantive part of the summit.

Retired General Honoré calls Trump plan to dispatch active duty troops to border 'unusual'
[The Hill] Retired Gen. Russel Honoré on Friday said that it is unusual that the Trump administration would dispatch around 800 active duty troops to the U.S. southern border amid news of the migrant Central American caravan moving toward the U.S. border.

"What's unusual about this mission is the White House insisted on using active duty troops as opposed to using the authority they already have on the national guard that already there," Honoré told Hill.TV's Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on "Rising."

Honoré noted that it is not unusual to use the National Guard at the border and said that active duty personnel used to be sent to the border for surveillance purposes.

"It is not unusual to use the military. Both President Bush and President Obama sent additional National Guard to assist the border patrol when we had a high number of immigration issues, and people coming to the border, and they were again, used in a support role, and in some cases they even built fences," he said.

"Until the late nineties, active duty troops used to use to go and help the border patrol with surveillance," he said. "Then there was an incident where a young man was killed on a patrol that was going on, and since then the Pentagon pulled away from that mission to have any active military doing surveillance in the true use of military tactics along the border."

President Trump on Thursday tweeted that he is bringing out the military to secure this U.S.-Mexico border.

#13  I know some National Guard weekend warriors who thought 4-5 tours in a war zone unusual. Our military is primarily defensive and it would be foolhardy to not have learned the lessons of decades of ME/SE Asian warfare and use the same surveillance/tech for protecting our own borders. Hopefully the Federal Police are taking them in an orderly fashion to detention centers to collect DNA and weed out the criminals, traffickers, and separate the true families from the human shields. All need screened for infectious diseases and kept from being human bioweapons. Military age males are without excuse if they continue. It is not our moral or legal responsibility for non-citizens of the USA. Mexico cannot afford to not cooperate with US.
To share some other common sense suggestions from other patriots:
Build a non-lethal "non-wall". You don't need to build physical wall anymore, just put up active denial sonic and microwave crowd control devices. Drone surveillance and you're are done in about two weeks.

Bingo! Active Denial is the only way and has enough standoff distance to prevent them coming through and to remain on Mexico’s soil.
I hope President Trump has been made aware of this option if not call, or tweet your suggestions to him ASAP you could change history. Consider Generals Kelly and Mattis really want open borders and are globalists.
If they have been warned then who's fault is that?
Drop leaflets warning them of that which awaits them. Use bullhorns for the illiterate. If they cross over the border after being told not to we have every right to shoot to kill. Put it this way, if somebody comes to your house and stands at the fence and you tell him not to come in and he does, you have every right to shoot him. Same thing here. NO TRESPASSING. VIOLATERS WILL BE SHOT ON SITE.
Tax remittances from those already here to help pay for it. German, Czech leaders want EU migration deals with Africa
[news24] German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis have found an area of agreement within their conflicting views of migration.

Standing together at a news conference in Prague on Friday, Babis and Merkel said the European Union should strike deals with African countries like one with Turkey that helped slow the arrival of refugees and migrants.

Merkel said the deal that involved the EU paying Turkey to look after Syrian refugees "has been working well and could be an example to follow."

The Czech Republic is one of four Central European countries that rejected a European Union plan to assign members a required number of asylum-seekers to accept.

Hungary, Poland and Slovakia were the other countries against the redistribution plan. Germany was among the EU countries to criticize their position.

Evidence not required for media to link Trump to suspicious package bombs
[Wash Examiner] Breaking: Left-wing journalists claim, without evidence, that the suspicious package deliveries this week are directly linked to President Trump.

Journalists and TV anchors think themselves principled and virtuous by taking every opportunity to note when Trump makes an assertion "without evidence."

And yet, their devotion to evidence was nowhere to be found all week when they made explicit connections between Trump’s midterm campaign rhetoric to the strange devices that ended up at the homes and offices of high-profile Democrats, Trump critics, and CNN’s New York headquarters.

CNN on Thursday called the package recipients "Trump’s targets."

Wait, are they "Trump’s targets," or are they Trump’s critics?

That’s the difference between a person who Trump singled out and a person who singled out Trump, like when Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., to whom two of the packages were addressed, said that liberals should publicly "harass" administration officials.

Economy
Given The Trump Economy, Consumers Turn Optimistic About Their Holiday Spending
[Hot Air] For some strange reason ‐ could it be the booming economy? ‐ Americans have decided times are pretty good this year and they intend to spend rather robustly on holiday gifts.

Bad news perhaps for January when the credit card bills start arriving. But it’s quite a contrast from the eight long stagnant years of the Obama administrations.

It’s also super news right now for the country’s retailers to cap another year of positive growth when the economy expanded at a 3.5 percent annualized rate in the third quarter and unemployment dropped to historic lows.

It’s quite possible the widespread positive feelings entering the 2018 holiday season have something to do with President Trump’s economic and regulatory policies along with the major tax-cut legislation the GOP Congress passed and Trump signed last holiday season.

As we described here, out on the midterm campaign trail Barack "Me-Me-Me" Obama is trying to claim credit for the booming Trump economy. He wants to elect Democrats who promise to block Trump’s future tax cuts and economic policies, to rescind those already in place and quite likely attempt the impeachment of this president.

In less than two weeks, voters ‐ at least those who bother to go to the polls to look out for themselves ‐ will decide whose vision of economic growth they like: The one they’re living under now with a Republican Congress or the darker ones Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer offer.

-Land of the Free
How Public Schools Indoctrinate Kids Without Almost Anyone Noticing
[The Federalist] Many people have long suspected that governments sometimes attempt to indoctrinate their people to increase the government’s own power and influence. Unfortunately, ambitious governments will not stop at merely controlling what their people can do; they must control their minds.

Indoctrination happens through many channels‐entertainment, speeches, and censorship‐‐but its main instrument is the school system. Teachers have a captive audience of malleable young minds for several years. They may not have figured out how to make students smart and productive, but they can at least make them submissive and obedient.

Judging by results and from most people’s experience, indoctrination is not only a problem with rogue regimes, but also a distinctly American problem. However, here it is difficult to determine the extent of indoctrination, how it works, or even if it does work.

Most Americans might receive a mediocre education, but this education may be so mediocre that the intended brainwashing might not even be effective. True, some will feel the Bern and join the Socialist Party, and others will become feminists and beat up women who protest abortion. A precious few may even become conservatives. Most, though, seem content to remain disengaged from politics, religion, and most ideas in general, and allow the mainstream media to think for them.

Far from resembling a unified collective, society has become more polarized and tribal. Some might see this as evidence of the failure of indoctrination, and the insuppressible human desire for freedom and justice, but they are mistaken. Indoctrination does work, and it is one the main reasons America is so divided.

Toledo Woman Arrested for Directing Financial Support to Al-Qaeda
[PJ] A Toledo, Ohio-area woman, Alaa Mohd Abusaad, was arrested Tuesday on charges that she directed an undercover FBI employee to send money to al-Qaeda in Syria.

Abusaad, 22 years old, had recently lived in Birmingham, Alabama, where the charges were filed. She was introduced to the undercover operative earlier this year through an associate while still in Birmingham.

A Justice Department press release summarized the charges:

As set forth in the complaint, Abusaad instructed an FBI undercover employee (UCE) about how to send money to the mujahedeen -- fighters engaged in jihad. Abusaad told the UCE that money "is always needed. You can’t have a war without weapons. You can’t prepare a soldier without equipment."

Abusaad also advised the UCE on how to send money in a manner that would avoid detection by law enforcement, including by using fake names and addresses when conducting electronic money transfers. Subsequently, Abusaad introduced the UCE to a financial facilitator who could route the UCE’s money to "brothers that work with aq" (meaning al-Qaeda).

Abusaad faces up to 20 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine if convicted.

The FBI affidavit filed with the criminal complaint records the discussions and direction that Abusaad provided to the undercover operative. They used a mobile messaging application, where she provided direction on sending money to al-Qaeda by using a fake name and keeping the amounts between $300-400 to avoid detection.

Europe
In Europe, Free Speech Bows to Sharia
[National Review] Europeans are free to say only what the courts let them.

When he was 50, the prophet of Islam took as his wife Aisha, who was then six or seven. The marriage was consummated when Aisha was nine.

This is not a smear. It is an accurate account of authoritative Islamic scripture. (See, e.g., Sahih-Bukhari, Vol. 5, Book 58, Nos. 234‐236.) Yet it can no longer safely be discussed in Europe, thanks to the extortionate threat of violence and intimidation ‐ specifically, of jihadist terrorism and the Islamist grievance industry that slipstreams behind it. Under a ruling by the so-called European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), free speech has been supplanted by sharia blasphemy standards.

The case involves an Austrian woman (identified as "Mrs. S." in court filings and believed to be Elisabeth Sabaditsch Wolff) who, in 2009, conducted two seminars entitled "Basic Information on Islam." She included the account of Mohammed’s marriage to Aisha. Though this account is scripturally accurate, Mrs. S. was prosecuted on the rationale that her statements implied pedophilic tendencies on the part of the prophet. A fine (about $547) was imposed for disparaging religion.

Mrs. S. appealed, relying on Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights. That provision purports to safeguard "freedom of expression," though it works about the same way the warranty on your used car does ‐ it sounds like you’re covered, but the fine print eviscerates your protection.

Article 10 starts out benignly enough: Europeans are free "to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers." But then comes the legalese: One’s exercise of the right to impart information, you see, "carries with it duties and responsibilities." Consequently, what is called "freedom" is actually "subject to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties" that the authorities decide "are necessary in a democratic society," including for "public safety" and for "the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, for the protection of the reputation or rights of others."

Dem Florida Gov Candidate Gillum Says Police Go 'Too Far' if They Pull Out a Weapon
[Townhall] Andrew Gillum, Democratic candidate for Florida governor and Tallahassee mayor, told the "Pod Save America" podcast earlier this week that police have already gone too far if they have to reach for a weapon.

"I'm for police accountability," Gillum said, "but law enforcement society cannot work and, quite frankly, law enforcement can’t do its job if it does not have a trusting relationship with the community."

"At the time that a law enforcement official has to go to a weapon, to a gun, to a baton, to a taser, then they have already have to go too far by their very presence," he argued. "By the very trust that they inspire in community and in society, they are supposed to be able to bring most situations to heel."

[Free Beacon] Two of the largest trade unions in Minnesota are backing the reelection campaign of Republican representative Jason Lewis against a Democratic business executive.

The carpenters' union and International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49, both of which endorsed Hillary Clinton, will support the first-term congressman in the midterm elections in his rematch against former health care executive [Free Beacon] Angie Craig. Labor leaders praised Lewis's record in Congress, highlighting his support for domestic energy development as well as his willingness to buck his political party. Lewis has supported Davis-Bacon, which favors union wage levels in federal projects despite the push in the conservative movement to abolish wage mandates.

"In Jason's time in Congress he has cast repeated votes in support of Davis-Bacon prevailing wage and has led on the issue of changing school curriculum to encourage more people to look at careers in the construction industry," carpenters' spokesman Adam Duininck said in a release.

Palestinian said killed in West Bank clashes with Israeli troops
[IsraelTimes] Ramallah health ministry says 8 others injured as troops reportedly fire tear gas and live ammunition at Paleostinians throwing stones at settlers

A Paleostinian man was killed by Israeli fire on Friday during festivities with troops in the central West Bank, the health ministry in Ramallah said.

The Paleostinian ministry said 33-year-old Othman Ahmed Ladadwa was rubbed out by IDF soldiers in the village of Mazara al-Qibliya. It said eight other Paleostinians were maimed in the festivities. Two of them were in a serious condition including a man who was shot in the head.

Israel said three border coppers were lightly injured dispersing a "violent riot" northwest of Ramallah. A statement from police said hundreds of Paleostinians set off fireworks and hurled rocks at Israeli troops, who "responded with riot dispersal means, and fired in accordance with standard operation procedures."

According to witnesses, the festivities broke out when Israeli settlers came to visit a site near the village and local Paleostinians threw stones at them.

Israeli forces then intervened and fired both tear gas and ammunition at the Paleostinians, the witnesses said.

The West Bank has seen a rise in tensions in recent weeks. Earlier this month, a Paleostinian terrorist rubbed out two Israeli colleagues at an industrial zone adjacent to a settlement in the northern West Bank. The suspect remains on the run.

[IsraelTimes] Police examine suspicious object in Givat Ze’ev and take it away for investigation; no damage or injuries reported. Givat Ze’ev is located about five kilometers north of the capital. This is the second time this month that an incendiary balloon has been found in the settlement.

IDF strikes 80 Gaza targets overnight in response to multiple rocket barrages
[IsraelTimes] Army says 30 projectiles fired at Israel overnight; sirens blare once more on Saturday morning; Iron Dome intercepts 10 rockets, the rest cause no damage

The Israeli military carried out extensive air strikes in the Gazoo Strip Friday night, striking around 80 terror targets in the enclave, after a night in which around 30 rockets were launched across the border, sending many thousands of Israelis into shelters.

The rocket barrages were launched between approximately 10 p.m. and 3 a.m., leading warning sirens to sound throughout Israeli communities multiple times throughout the night. There followed about 3 hours of quiet until 6 a.m., when sirens were once again activated by an apparent launch.

The Iron Dome aerial defense system intercepted 10 of the nighttime rockets, while two fell inside Gazoo and the rest hit open fields and were thus not targeted by the system.

There were no reports of direct Israeli casualties or damage.

In response air force jets and helicopters bombarded various Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, targets in the Strip, including two weapons-production facilities, five military sites, a training facility, a tunnel shaft and an observation post.

Gazoo’s health ministry said a hospital in northern Gazoo known as the Indonesian Hospital was damaged by one of the strikes, though photos of the damage did not appear to indicate a direct hit on the building. There were no reports of casualties.

The IDF said in a statement Saturday morning it "views with great severity the rocket attack tonight against Israeli communities." It blamed Hamas for creating "a terror-enabling atmosphere...near the border fence which led terror groups in the Strip to carry out tonight’s attack."

US Special Representative for International Negotiations, Jason Greenblatt, tweeted support for Israel overnight, saying: "More rockets from Gazoo into Israel. Another night where parents are ushering terrified children to cover."

The Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
(PIJ) group appeared to claim responsibility for the overnight barrages, though it did not explicitly say so. The terror organization stated that the assault was a response to deaths during Friday’s border protests, after five Paleostinians were killed during riots, one by his own hand grenade.

Paleostinian sources speaking to the Ynet news website claimed the attacks were carried out against the objections of the Hamas terror group that rules Gazoo, though this had no official confirmation.

A front man for the city of Sderot said at least eight rockets were fired at his city, with Iron Dome intercepting six of them, while two others fell in an open area.

In response to the rocket barrages, the IDF’s Home Front Command overnight issued instructions restricting gatherings in the Gazoo periphery: up to 100 people in open areas and 500 people in closed spaces.

In a statement following the launching of rockets at Israel Friday night, the PIJ said: "The resistance can not stand idly by in the face of the continued killing of innocent people in cold blood by the occupation...and the continued shedding of the blood of peaceful civilians."

It would be the first time Gazoo terror groups have explicitly used rocket attacks in response to deaths at the border since regular violent protests began in March, Hadashot news reported.

Five Palestinians said killed in Gaza riots, one by his own hand grenade

[IsraelTimes] Army says 16,000 Gazooks join violent border protests, belying earlier talk of a new era of calm

Five Paleostinians were said killed and 170 injured Friday during riots along the Gazoo border fence, the Hamas-run health ministry said, as violence continued despite expectations of quiet along the turbulent frontier. The IDF said helicopters and aircraft hit three Hamas sites during protests.

One of the fatalities, named as Jaber Abu Hemesa, died east of El Bureij, in the central part of the Strip, when a hand grenade he was holding went kaboom! accidentally, witnesses said.

The Hamas ministry said 27-year-old Muhammad al-Nabi was shot in the head during protests near Jabaliya in northern Gazoo.

It identified three other fatalities as Nasser Abu Taim, 22, Aish Sha’ath, 23, Ahmed Abu Lebda, 22, and said they were killed in separate incidents near Khan Younis in southern Gazoo.

The Israeli army did not comment on the deaths but said approximately 16,000 "demonstrators and rioters" were gathered along the border. "The rioters hurled grenades, Molotov cocktails and rocks and lit tires on fire," the IDF said.

"During the events, IDF attack helicopters and IDF aircraft targeted three Hamas military posts in the northern Gazoo Strip," the army said, adding that Paleostinians briefly breached the fence in two places.

The protesters took part in the protests in several locations under the banner of "Gazoo won’t surrender," setting fire to tires, throwing rocks and explosives at soldiers near the border and attempting to break down the fence.

Hezbollah fighting to prevent Zionist terrorists from overrunning Mideast: Scholar
[PRESSTV] Hezbollah is an anti-terror group which is fighting to prevent the Zionist Death Eaters from continuing to overrun the territory that does not belong to them in the Middle East, an American scholar says.

Kevin Barrett, an author, journalist and radio host with a Ph.D. in Islamic and Arabic Studies, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Friday after the Trump administration imposed a new round of sanctions on the Lebanese resistance movement.

The sanctions targeted individuals and international organizations that do business with the group.

Trump signed the sanctions legislation ‐ known as the Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Amendments Act 2018 ‐ against the resistance group on Thursday.

Israel PM makes secret Oman visit
[PULSE.NG] Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made an unannounced visit to Oman, an Arab state with which Israel has no diplomatic ties, and met with Sultan Qaboos, the premier's office said Friday.

The two leaders discussed the Middle East grinding of the peace processor "and other issues of shared interest", it said in a statement released after Netanyahu returned from the first such visit by an Israeli premier for more than two decades.

Netanyahu was accompanied by his wife Sara and his delegation included Mossad intelligence chief Yossi Cohen and National Security Advisor Meir Ben-Shabbat.

The visit came at the invitation of Sultan Qaboos and followed "lengthy contacts between the two countries", the statement said.

It formed part of "the policy outlined by Prime Minister Netanyahu on deepening relations with the states of the region", it said.

In 1994, then-Israeli premier Yitzhak Rabin visited Oman, and acting prime minister Shimon Peres also made a visit in 1996 and the two countries agreed to open trade representative offices.

In October 2000, Oman closed the offices after the outbreak of the second Paleostinian intifada.

Russia Upholds Torture Convictions against Senior Officers
[An Nahar] A military court has upheld murder and torture convictions against senior security and coppers from Russia's North Caucasus, a rights activist said Friday, in what he described as rare ruling.

A military tribunal upheld the convictions on Thursday "for one killing, the use of violence (and) extortion" in the region of Ingushetia, Pavel Chikov of Agora told AFP.

The sentences, which ran to up to 10 years in prison, were against interior ministry officers and an FSB security service officer in Ingushetia, including the head of the counter-extremism center there.

"Six people received actual jail sentences including an officer from the FSB," while one police officer got a suspended sentence, said Chikov.

"It's the first such sentence concerning senior management in a counter-extremism center in Russia. And it's the first case over torture in an counter-extremism center in Russia," he added.

"Up to now, this branch of the interior ministry was considered untouchable," he said.

The officers were convicted of using electric shocks and other torture techniques to force confessions from detainees in the mainly-Moslem region.

One of their victims, a 50-year-old man, suffocated to death during interrogation, the RIA Novosti state news agency reported.

The officers also forced victims to hand over money and even a car by threatening to spread compromising information about them.

A military tribunal in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don threw out an appeal against the sentences for the former officers, first convicted in July.

The head of Ingushetia's counter-extremism center of the interior ministry received seven years in jail.

One of his subordinates ranked major received 10 years, and an FSB officer in counter-terrorism received a five-year sentence, Pravo.ru legal news agency said.

It said the brief truce had been reached after a "broad meeting between delegations from the Fatah and Ansarullah movements at the headquarters of Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
's Political Council."

Cautious calm had prevailed in the morning after deadly festivities a day earlier that left two dead and several others injured, NNA reported.

Intermittent festivities had broken out after midnight amid attempts to reach a ceasefire by Parliament Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri
Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, a member of AMAL, a not very subtle Hizbullah sock puppet...
during a meeting held at night at the AMAL headquarters in Haret Saida.

It was held in the presence of representatives of Fatah and Ansarullah, NNA said.

The festivities killed one of the Paleostinian National Security Forces and maimed another four including two Lebanese Army soldiers.

Babysitter found drunk, without pants on street
[NYPOST] A babysitter in Maine was jugged
You have the right to remain silent...
after she was found drunk and without pants on a street ‐ while the two young children she was hired to watch were left alone inside a home, police said.

Lauren Gelinas, 25, was arrested Tuesday on charges of endangering the welfare of a child after police in Bangor got a call about a disturbance on Ohio Street, WGME reports.

Responding officers then found Gelinas outside and not wearing pants, socks or shoes, according to the station. She told police she was taking care of two children at a nearby home, where officers later found two children under the age of 5 in unsafe and unsanitary conditions.

Officials from the state’s Department of Health and Human Services were also called to the scene, WGME reports.

An emotional Gelinas pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
to the charges during a court appearance on Wednesday, WABI reports.

Gelinas told an arresting officer that she drank vodka before walking out of the home, where one of the children ‐ ages 2 and 4 ‐ was later found lying in vomit and crying hysterically. The other child was found disheveled and asleep upstairs. One child also complained of being kicked by Gelinas, police said.

Gelinas was ordered held on $500 bail and was expected to return to court in December, WABI reports.

Two men taken into custody as police investigate rape, murder of minor boy in Kalyana
[DAWN] The Pakpattan Police on Friday took two men from Kalyana into custody over their alleged involvement in the rape and murder of a six-year-old boy.

The boy ‐ a resident of Kalyana village and a student of Class 1 ‐ did not return home from school on Thursday, after which his family and neighbours started their search for him. The child's body was eventually found at the Government Primary School.

Once the family and neighbours identified the body, ASP Saddar Dr Sameer Noor and the scene of the crime unit of the Pakpattan police reached the school to collect evidence.

The body was moved to the District Headquarter Hospital for a postmortem examination and the police registered a first investigation report against unidentified persons for the suspected rape and murder of the school boy.

The medical report confirmed that the boy was sexually assaulted before being strangled to death.

Pakpattan District Police Officer Maria Mehmood created a joint investigation team (JIT) under the supervision of ASP Saddar.

The gatekeeper of the Government Primary School and one other person were taken into custody by the JIT due to suspicion of their involvement in the case.

Speaking to DawnNewsTV, ASP Noor said that the police would get to the bottom of the case at the earliest.

Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka President Sacks PM, Plunges Country into Crisis
[An Nahar] Maithripala Sirisena installed Sri Lanka's controversial former strongman leader Mahinda Rajapakse as the country's new prime minister Friday, in a shock move that plunged the island into an unprecedented constitutional crisis.

Sirisena's office announced the surprise decision after the president sacked incumbent premier Ranil Wickremesinghe -- who insisted that he was still the legitimate prime minister and would fight his dismissal in court.

"I am addressing you as the prime minister of Sri Lanka," Wickremesinghe told news hounds at a nationally televised presser. "I remain as prime minister and I will function as the prime minister."

There was no immediate comment from Rajapakse, who worshiped at a Buddhist temple shortly after he was sworn in by Sirisena at his office in a ceremony broadcast by a private TV channel loyal to the ex-president.

Rajapakse ally and opposition politician Wimal Weerawansa asked Wickremesinghe to step down and allow a smooth transition of power.

Buit Wickremesinghe said he was urging the parliament's speaker Karu Jayasuriya to convene the legislature, where his United National Party and its allies command a majority.

The speaker said he was seeking legal advice and would announce Saturday if he recognizes Rajapakse as the new prime minister.

Sirisena won elections against Rajapakse in 2015 on a platform of economic reform and accountability for atrocities committed during his opponent's 10-year iron-fisted rule which saw the bloody end of Sri Lanka's brutal civil war.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Damascus Rejects U.N. Plan on Constitution Committee
[An Nahar] A United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
plan to end the seven-year civil war in Syria has run aground after Damascus blocked the world body's proposal for a committee to draft a new constitution, provoking anger among western powers.

U.N. special envoy Staffan de Mistura has been working since January on forming a group of 150 members to thrash out a new constitution, seen as a first step to winding down a conflict that has cost more than 360,000 lives.

Under the U.N. plan, the Syrian regime would choose 50 of the committee members, the Syrian opposition another 50 and the U.N. would nominate the final 50, composed of representatives of civil society and technical experts.

De Mistura, a veteran Italian-Swedish diplomat due to step down next month, said Friday that Foreign Minister Walid Muallem rejected the last list of UN-proposed names and suggested his own method to the final 50 members during talks in Damascus this week.

"Walid Muallem didn't accept a role for the U.N. in identifying or selecting a third list," the envoy told the U.N. Security Council by video conference during an emergency session called by the United States.

"Rather, Mr Muallem indicated that the governments of Syria and Russia had agreed recently that the three Astana guarantors (Iran, Russia and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
) and the Syrian government would in consultations among them prepare a proposal as regards the third list."

De Mistura said withdrawing the U.N. list was only possible "if there was an agreement on a new credible, balanced and inclusive list" that complied with U.N. resolutions and commitments made in January talks in the Russian resort town of Sochi.

UN trying to discover origin of arms found off Yemen coast
[PULSE.NG] UN experts are working to establish the origin of a weapons shipment seized off of Yemen's coast by a US Navy vessel, the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
said Friday.

"UN experts with responsibilities in the area have carried out an inspection of the weapons seized and will report to their respective Security Council Sanctions Committees in due course," a UN front man said.

The Washington Post had earlier reported that the stash of some 2,500 Kalashnikov assault rifles was seized in late August in the Gulf of Aden, off of Yemen's southern coast. The newspaper, which had a news hound aboard the US navy vessel, did not identify the ship carrying the arms.

The United States has repeatedly accused Iran of providing military aid to Yemen's Houthis, who in 2015 forced the Saudi-backed Yemeni government out of the capital Sanaa and into the southern part of the country.

Tehran says it has only provided political backing to the Iranian catspaws. The UN has identified missiles used by the Huthis as Iranian-made, but has not established proof that Tehran delivered them.

The war has left more than 10,000 people dead since it broke out three years ago, according to UN figures.

Oxfam Says 1 Civilian Killed Every 3 Hours in Yemen
[An Nahar] A civilian is killed every three hours in Yemen, Oxfam said Friday, calling on the United States, Britannia and other European states to suspend arms sales to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
.

"One civilian has been killed every three hours in fighting in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
since the beginning of August, with many more people succumbing to disease and hunger," Oxfam said in a statement.

Citing data collected by the Civilian Impact Monitoring Project, linked to the United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
global protection clusters, the aid group said 575 non-combatants were killed between August 1 and October 15, including 136 children.

"Oxfam is calling on the UK, U.S. and other governments to suspend arms sales to the Saudis because of their disregard for civilian lives in the war in Yemen," read the Oxfam statement.

Saudi Arabia leads a pro-government military alliance that has battled Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis since 2015, pushing the impoverished country to the brink of famine.

The U.N. categorizes Yemen as the world's worst humanitarian crisis, warning Tuesday that 14 million people now face a serious threat of famine.

Following the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi -- the Washington Post columnist and Saudi critic killed in his country's Istanbul consulate this month -- rights and aid groups have urged Western states to suspend arms sales to Saudi Arabia.

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
terrorist cell that was planning attacks in the Russian capital was detained in Moscow Region on Friday, Russia’s Security Service (FSB) said.

The group consisted of six members, who received commands from Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) terrorist kingpins in Syria, the FSB said in a statement.

"The detained planned to carry out resonant terrorist attacks in Moscow, using both firearms and improvised bombs," the statement read.

The group was funded by money transfers from abroad and through small-time Mister Big activity. It put much effort into covering up its operations and avoiding detection by police.

During the search of the terrorist hideout, the FSB discovered automatic firearms, cash, communication devices with reports on preparing the terrorist attacks, as well as blueprints for improvised bombs.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin

said the FSB has prevented 26 terrorist-related crimes in Russia, including 15 terrorist attacks, since the start of the year. The actions of the law enforcers have "saved many lives," the president added.

Last year, Putin said that around 10,000 people from the former Soviet Union have been fighting in the ranks of Islamic State in Syria, with roughly half of them being Russian citizens. The possible return of these people "is a major threat for the security of Russia and other countries," the president pointed out.

The Grand Turk
Turkey Wants 18 Saudis Extradited over Khashoggi Murder
[An Nahar] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
on Friday said it wanted 18 Saudis extradited over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, as President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
said Ankara still had more evidence to reveal in the case.

The announcement came a day after the Saudi prosecutor said that based on evidence supplied by Turkey the murder appeared to have been premeditated -- the first time Saudi authorities had made such an admission.

In a speech in Ankara, Erdogan said Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's chief prosecutor would visit Istanbul on Sunday to speak to Ottoman Turkish authorities as part of the investigation.

Saudi authorities earlier jugged
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
18 men wanted by Ankara following an international furore over the death of Khashoggi, a Washington Post contributor and critic of Saudi policies, who was killed at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

The killing has tainted the image of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
...Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia as of 2016....
, who has positioned himself as a Saudi reformer, and tested ties between Washington and Riyadh as Western powers demand answers over Khashoggi's death.

A written request for the extradition of the 18 suspects had been prepared by Istanbul's chief prosecutor.

"It is clear that the judicial system in Turkey is better equipped to genuinely serve the cause of justice in this case," a senior Ottoman Turkish official said, because Khashoggi was "murdered in Turkey by Saudi nationals who traveled to Turkey for this specific purpose".

Erdogan on Friday called on Riyadh to reveal who ordered the killing and the whereabouts of Khashoggi's body.

"You need to show this body," Erdogan said.

The Ottoman Turkish president, who has stopped short of directly blaming the Saudi government, said that the 18 suspects must know who killed Khashoggi and repeated his call for the men to be tried in Turkey.

U.N. Panel Rejects Russian Proposal on Nuclear Treaty
[An Nahar] A U.N. General Assembly panel rejected Friday Russia's proposal to debate its resolution on preserving the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) that the U.S. plans to pull out of.

Fifty-five countries on a General Assembly committee specializing in disarmament voted against putting the debate on the agenda, while 31 voted in favor and there were 54 abstentions.

Several of the countries that abstained had argued the issue was more a matter for the U.N. Security Council.

Russia let it be known that it had not ruled out submitting its draft to the UN's highest body, despite the fact that the United States exercises veto powers there.

"The international community has an obligation to react to this apocalyptic situation," a Russian diplomat said in response to Washington's recent announcement that it planned to pull out of the treaty, signed in 1987 by U.S. president Ronald Reagan and the Soviet Union's last leader, Mikhail Gorbachev.

Moscow's draft resolution, released to the media, "calls on Russia and the United States to pursue consultation in respect of their obligations conforming to the INF."

It also calls for the resumption of "a constructive dialogue on strategic questions, based on the principles of openness and mutual respect."

And it expresses hope that "the dialogue will contribute to subsequent progress in the reduction of nuclear arms and the strengthening of international security and stability."

The draft also calls for "strict and entire respect" for the treaty and asks "all signatory states to exert efforts to reinforce the INF treaty and preserve its efficiency."

In also proposes "supplementary cooperation measures to strengthen trust" and the "implementation of the INF treaty."

U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
announced last weekend that the U.S. would pull out of the INF treaty, which prohibits nuclear missiles with a range of 310 to 3,100 miles (500 to 5,000 kilometers).

Washington has accused Moscow of violating the accord years.

Moscow officials have said the U.S. has committed "flagrant violations" of the treaty and Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
warned the US decision to pull out could cause a "dangerous" situation.

Trump and Putin are due to meet in Gay Paree on November 11.

China-Japan-Koreas
Two Koreas Agree to Remove Some Border Guard Posts
[An Nahar] The two Koreas on Friday agreed to each remove 11 guard posts along the heavily-fortified border next month with a goal to possibly remove all of them in the future, senior military officials said.

The agreement made between generals from the two sides came as diplomatic thaw between the former wartime foes gathered pace.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in and the North's leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
previously agreed on a broad plan to ease tensions along the border during their third summit in Pyongyang last month.

During Friday's talks aimed at fleshing out details, the two sides agreed to withdraw all troops and weaponry from the 11 guard posts along the border and destroy them by the end of November, according to a joint statement released by Seoul's military.

"The two sides also agreed to hold working-level talks to remove all remaining GPs based on the progress of the test removal of 11 GPs," it said after the talks held at the border truce village of Panmunjom.

Panmunjom -- or the Joint Security Area (JSA) -- is the only spot along the tense, 250-kilometre (155-mile) frontier where soldiers from the two Koreas and the US-led UN Command stand face to face.

But as part of the latest reconciliatory gesture, the two Koreas on Thursday removed all firearms and guard posts from the area, leaving it manned by 35 unarmed personnel from each side.

India police arrest more than 2,000 over temple protests
[PULSE.NG] Indian police have rounded up more than 2,000 people for stopping women from entering a flashpoint Hindu shrine in defiance of a Supreme Court order, officials said Friday.

Hindu hardliners prevented women aged 10 to 50 from reaching the Sabarimala temple complex in Kerala state over the last week -- the first time the temple has opened since the court ended a longstanding ban on women of menstruating age from worshipping there.

Protesters, including women and kiddies, massed at the bottom of a hill leading to the shrine, threatening and manhandling any women who attempted to reach the temple.

Some protestors smashed car windows and clashed with olice, who started a crackdown on the blockade Wednesday.

"We have tossed in the calaboose
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
2,061 people under various sections of the Indian penal code, including inciting communal violence, the arms act and destruction of public property," a police official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

The official added that 452 cases had been registered against the suspects so far.

More arrests appeared likely as details of hundreds more suspects were to be published, police said.

The temple has become the centre of a gender equality battle, pitting traditionalists against progressive voices pushing for a more liberal Hinduism.

The shrine is only open on a handful of days every year, and after last month's Supreme Court order a number of Hindu women had flocked there.

Armed police tried to escort some devotees -- but none made it to the top of the hill where the temple is located during the five-day worship period before it closed late Monday.

The temple will open for a one-day ritual next week and starts a two-month festival in the second week of November.

The Supreme Court is also to hear new petitions challenging its ruling in favour of women in November.

US military successfully tests anti-ballistic missile off coast of Hawaii
[PRESSTV] The US military says it has successfully tested a key missile system off the west coast of Hawaii, shooting down a medium-range ballistic missile.

On Friday, sailors aboard the USS John Finn successfully detected, tracked and targeted the rocket with an SM-3 Block IIA missile, the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) said.

The missile, which is part of the Aegis system, is designed to increase the US military’s capacity to knock down intercontinental ballistic missiles.

The new system is being developed in a joint venture between arms giant Raytheon and Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd.

In January, the MDA said the US had spent about $2.2 billion on the system, while Japan spent around $1 billion. However,
the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything...
it did not immediately confirm if those figures had gone up.

This test comes after two failed intercept tests, in June 2017 and January 2018, and one successful one in February 2017.

MDA Director Lieutenant General Sam Greaves said, "This was a superb accomplishment and key milestone for the SM-3 Block IIA return to flight."

Speaking on condition of anonymity, one US official said the system would attempt to intercept an intermediate-range missile in the coming months.

In August, the Pentagon was authorized to pursue more options for what Washington said defeating US-bound North Korean missiles through using radar and more missiles.

This is happening despite moves Pyongyang has been taking toward denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula following a summit between President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
and North Koran leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
in Singapore, during which the two leaders agreed to work toward denuclearization.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Day 4: Single fingerprint led FBI to mentally unstable “bomb” maker, 56, facing 48 years in prison for mailing 14 pipe bombs to Democrats like his mom
[DailyMail] Update of link posted by Skidmark in comments yesterday.
  • Cesar Altier Sayoc, 56, was taken into custody on Friday morning in Plantation, Florida

  • He is an avid Trump fan with an interest in bodybuilding who says he is a member of the Seminole tribe

  • Seminole Tribe of Florida has disavowed him however, saying he has never been a member

  • Sayoc had reportedly been kicked out of his parents' home and was living in his van when he was arrested

  • Van - which is densely covered with pro-Trump stickers - believed to be Sayoc's was impounded in Plantation

  • In the 1990s, Sayoc traveled the country and worked as a male stripper after failing to become a pro wrestler

  • Four additional suspicious packages discovered on Thursday and Friday brought the total to 14

  • On Friday afternoon, postal officials in Burlingame, California intercepted a package for billionaire Tom Styer

  • Earlier Friday a package addressed to Senator Kamala Harris was intercepted in Sacramento, California

  • A postal inspector intercepted another package to James Clapper in Manhattan Friday morning

  • FBI also discovered suspicious package addressed to Senator Cory Booker in Florida on Thursday night

Mail bomb suspect Cesar Sayoc was 'mentally disturbed,' used steroids and cut ties with Democrat mom who's 'deeply regretful': lawyer

[NYDailyNews] He was mentally disturbed, told his Democrat mom he hated her and likely aggravated his anger with steroid use.

That’s the portrait of Florida bombing suspect Cesar Sayoc painted by lawyer Ronald Lowy, a family friend who represented Sayoc in multiple criminal cases over the years.

Lowy said Sayoc’s mom was in a hospital Friday recovering from a routine surgery performed shortly before news broke that her son was arrested in the string of mail bombs sent to Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and other prominent Democrats this week.

“I met with his mother. It’s a very sad situation. She’s obviously very distressed. Her son has been mentally disturbed for a very long time. They’ve encouraged him to get assistance, therapy and treatment, but he’s always refused,” Lowy told the Daily News.

“She’s a Democrat. She finds all of this so shocking and painful. She’s asked me to express her empathy for the victims who had to receive these packages and be in fear. She’s in shock it could have been her son, and if so, she’s deeply regretful,” he said.

He said Sayoc’s mom, Madeline Giardiello, wasn’t aware that her son — who previously worked in the adult entertainment industry, reportedly taking part in male strip shows — had been posting online about his ultra right-wing, fringe politics.

“There was a time he accepted help from his family, and they kept hoping he would get treatment. But he finally cut himself off and sadly told his mother he hates her,” Lowy said.

He said there’s been some “occasional telephonic contact,” but Sayoc hasn’t visited his mom’s house in three to four years.

“The way she understands it, he’s been living in a vehicle,” Lowy said. “That’s part of the oddity. This (alleged crime) appears to be more sophisticated than he would have the means or competency to carry out. It truly makes us wonder if all the facts are correct. Maybe he was someone’s pawn, or acting on someone’s behalf.”

Sayoc, 56, has been arrested at least 10 times in Florida, including once in 2002 for making a telephone bomb threat to Florida Power and Light.

Lowy said Sayoc had a cleaning business at the time and was enraged the utility had turned off his electricity, likely due to non-payment.

“He called to get it restored, they refused, and he made an absurd, off-the-cuff comment along the lines of, ‘If I left a bomb at your office, I bet it would get turned on real fast.’ There was no contact personally, no action to follow up. The judge understood there was no history and agreed to give him probation for a year,” Lowy said.

Sayoc was also charged in 2004 with felony possession of testosterone-based steroids. Online court records show the case was ultimately dismissed.

“We convinced the state attorney to treat it as they would a narcotic. He got in a diversion program to hopefully try to get him off steroids. Sadly, it’s our understanding he went back and continued using them. We think that is probably part of problem. Steroids can create heightened emotions and anger. It’s a very dangerous drug,” Lowy said.

Lowy said he was personally surprised by Sayoc’s arrest in the mail bomb case Friday.

“He’s someone who doesn’t exhibit the sophistication to commit such a sophisticated crime. He’s always shown a diminished capacity in dealing with society, a difficulty conforming or carrying on substantial tasks without supervision,” Lowy said.

Were Sayoc’s explosives operational? The feds don't seem to think so - even as they insist the 14 IEDs were 'not a hoax'

[DailyMail]
  • Cesar Sayoc Jr, 56, was arrested on Friday and charged with five federal crimes in the 'MAGAbomber' case

  • His list of charges did not include attempted murder, giving a strong indication that the IEDs were not operational

  • FBI director Christopher Wray said on Friday the 14 package bombs contained explosive materials and were not hoax bombs

  • He said the devices all had the potential of detonating in transit, or if shaken or exposed to a heat source

  • Law enforcement sources previously said they believe the pipe bombs were either ineptly constructed or not intended to blow up

#5  Usual 'double standard' fully in play:

When James Hodgkinson, a registered Democrat who campaigned for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 election, attempted to assassinate a group of Republican congressmen at a baseball practice last June, we did not blame Sanders or Hodgkinson’s party. Instead, we wrote, “The person singly responsible for Wednesday’s horrors is the man who pulled the trigger.” Here, too, the responsibility for Sayoc’s bombing campaign rests with him alone.

The double standard in these cases is flagrant. Even though Republican majority whip Steve Scalise was nearly killed in the Hodgkinson attack and more than a dozen of his colleagues could have been killed but for security neutralizing Hodgkinson, the event was quickly memory-holed and the media didn’t resound with calls for Bernie Sanders, or, say, Rachel Maddow, to tone it down.

Iraq to stop Kirkuk oil exports to Iran, deal in works to use KRG pipeline: report
[Rudaw] Iraq will stop exporting Kirkuk oil to Iran and will instead send the crude north to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
through the Kurdistan Regional Government’s pipeline, according to a report.

In mid-October, Baghdad struck a deal with the KRG to resume Kirkuk oil exports through the pipeline to Ceyhan, a year after federal forces took control of the oil-rich province’s fields, Rooters reported, citing unnamed sources.

The agreement would have been one of the last acts of the outgoing government of former Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi. The deal must still be approved by new Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi.

US sanctions on Iran’s oil sector will come into force on November 4.

Iraq had been exporting less than 30,000 barrels per day to Iran via truck, though that route was fraught with security concerns and poor road infrastructure. That will now cease in order to comply with US sanctions, Rooters reported.

Baghdad’s decision to make a deal with the Kurdistan Region was driven by economic necessity, said Bilal Wahab, Wagner Fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

"The Iraqi government needs this income," he told Rudaw TV. "These 300,000 barrels of oil that the Iraqi government was not prepared to export via the Kurdistan Region before because of a political problem ‐ the equation has now changed."

That change is improved ties between the regional and federal governments, he said, noting that "Kurds have returned to Baghdad."

New governments are being formed in both capitals, opening the door to changes and a situation where "economic objectives might have been prioritized over political objectives. This is an important point and a positive development."

Wahab also thinks the US is putting pressure on both Erbil and Baghdad to comply with sanctions on Iran.

With expectations that Iranian oil sales could decrease by a million barrels, "The existence of hundreds of thousands of barrels of Kirkuk oil can make up for decline in oil reserves in the market, and this will prevent a hike in oil prices," he explained.

Amid disputes with Erbil late last year and into the new year, Baghdad had floated the idea of building its own pipeline to Turkey, but the entire border with Turkey is within Kurdistan Region territories, meaning that the KRG would have to agree to any such project.

KRG spokesperson Safin Dizayee said in September that they had offered a deal to Baghdad that would have allowed Iraq to export Kirkuk oil through the KRG’s pipeline for a fee that would have gone directly into the private sector, not the regional government.

Baghdad rejected the plan, said Dizayee, saying the decision cost the federal government some $5 billion in revenue.

Iraq’s new Oil Minister Thamir al-Ghadhban, who took control of the ministry on Thursday, said he would proceed with plans to increase oil and gas production, as well as upgrading and modernizing infrastructure.

Iraq’s economy is dependent on oil.

Iran small boats shadow US ship carrying top US commander
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The top US commander in the Middle East got an Iranian welcome as he arrived on the USS Essex in the Gulf.

Soon after Gen. Joseph Votel boarded the amphibious assault ship Friday morning one Iranian fast boat raced across in front of the Essex, while another shadowed it from the side.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps routinely buzz around US ships in the region, taking photos and collecting information. The boats came within about 300 yards of the Essex, and their radio chatter questioned what a US aircraft from the ship was doing.

A stealthy F-35 fighter jet had made a pass around the Essex, then hovered in the air above the deck before making a vertical landing as part of a demonstration for Votel.

Syrian regime bombardment kills seven civilians in Idlib
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Syrian regime artillery fire Friday killed seven civilians in Idlib, in the highest corpse count since a Russian-Ottoman Turkish deal last month to prevent a government assault on the province, a monitor said.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Friday's shelling is the most serious violation of a truce reached by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

and Russia last month.

The Observatory said seven people, including three women and three children, were killed in the shelling of Umm Jalal and Rafa villages in Idlib province.

The area is part of a demilitarization zone that was agreed upon between Russia and Turkey to avert a government offensive on Idlib, the last major rebel stronghold in the country.

The Smart News, an opposition activist collective, reported casualties in Rafa without giving a breakdown.

The Russia-Turkey deal that went into effect on Oct. 15 has been violated on several occasions.

The official front man of the National Liberation Front revealed that the forces of the Assad regime in Syria are targeting positions of the Syrian armed opposition in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo with artillery and missiles.

The spokesperson, Naji Mustafa, said to Al Arabiya that "it’s been calm since the Sochi agreement, and our heavy weapons were not available on the fronts."

(ISIS) managed to repel a big attack that was launched by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near the key town of Hajin in southeast Deir Ezzor.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the Islamic State killed more than ten fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces during the short battle near Hajin today.

The report claimed that the Syrian Democratic Forces failed to capture any territory from the Islamic State, despite the US Coalition’s heavy Arclight airstrikes on the terrorist group’s positions in the Euphrates River Valley.

The Syrian Democratic Forces have been attempting to break into Hajin for the past month; however, each time they get close to cracking the Islamic State’s lines, they are forced to withdraw due to heavy casualties.

Foreign ISIS fighters must face prosecution for Yezidi genocide: report
[Rudaw] ISIS bully boys, especially imported muscle, must be prosecuted on genocide and sex crime charges in order to bring justice to Yezidis, a new report stated, condemning prosecution thus far that have been relied on anti-terror laws.

"The focus should be on ensuring effective criminal investigations and prosecutions, where the rights of Yezidi victims to truth, justice and reparation can be fully addressed," read the report from the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and Kinyat, an organization that documents crimes against Yezidis.

"As history has shown, this is the only way to ensure effective guarantees of non-repetition for the gravest crimes," read the report that was published Thursday.

The report singles out the need to prosecute imported muscle in national and international courts "on charges of sexual crimes amounting to genocide and crimes against humanity."

These crimes were "carefully planned, institutionalized and highly organized" by ISIS with imported muscle playing a major role.

FIDH and Kinyat, speaking with Yezidi survivors, documented that the women were "gifted or bought" to fighters from the nations of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Libya, Tunisia, Leb, Jordan, Paleostine, Yemen, La Belle France, Germany, USA, and China.

The Yezidi women were actually used by ISIS as a propaganda tool to attract foreigners to their cause, the organizations concluded.

To date, prosecution efforts have been largely limited to terror-related offenses.

In northern Syria, Kurds have as many as 900 imported muscle in their custody, but their governments don’t want to take them back. The Kurds, who have established courts to try local ISIS members, have refused to prosecute the foreigners.

In Iraq, more than 300 ISIS suspects have been sentenced to death and hundreds more to life in prison. The crimes of genocide and sexual violence in conflict are not enshrined in Iraqi law, meaning the cases have been focused on terror charges. Iraq’s judicial authorities have been criticized for rushing the process.

"These legitimate concerns about security should not overshadow the exceptional gravity of atrocities committed by ISIS [ISIS] fighters, who must also be tried on international crimes charges," the report stated.

"By pursuing international crimes charges, judicial authorities are faced with the need to investigate the crimes perpetrated against the civilian population during the occupation of cities and villages and thus play a central role in helping to deliver justice for victims."
