CBS Confirms Machete Attack Suspect Was In United States On Green Card
Update on this story from yesterday..
CBS News has confirmed from the FBI that the man who attacked a Columbus restaurant Thursday with a machete was living in the United States on a green card.

The motives for the attack by 30-year-old Mohammed Barry remain unclear but Sherlocks are looking for possible ties to Death Eaters.

One of the only two relatives Barry had in Columbus, who only identified himself as Barry's uncle, said Barry was a bit of a loner with a bit of a temper.

"I know that when he gets mad he, that's why he wanted to be by himself," he said.

He said Barry was born in Guinea
...in west Africa between Guinea-Bissau and Mali, and very far from Somalia, where it was originally said Mr. Barry is from. Guinea is 86.7% Muslim...
but that his family, including three sisters, lives in Philadelphia. His uncle said Barry lived with him while looking for a job when he first moved to Columbus from Philadelphia last fall.

The uncle says he knew something wasn't right when he received a strange text message from Barry just five hours before the attack. He says the message was in Arabic and English but didn't understand the meaning. His uncle couldn't show or read the text because he said the FBI now has his phone.

The four victims he attacked with a machete are expected to make a full recovery. Barry was shot and killed by police after fleeing the restaurant.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
FBI Expands Felony Probe in Clinton E-mail and 'false statements.'
[National Review] The polls may look great right now for Hillary Clinton, but a deepening criminal investigation into her use of a private e-mail system while she was secretary of state underscores how fragile her lead really is.

On Thursday, Fox News reported that multiple intelligence sources claim the FBI has broadened its probe into the former secretary of state's potentially negligent handling of classified information. The nation's top law-enforcement agency is now also investigating whether Clinton or her surrogates made "materially false" statements to federal officials regarding her private e-mail system.

WSJ: The Myths of Black Lives Matter
[WSJ] A television ad for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign now airing in South Carolina shows the candidate declaring that "too many encounters with law enforcement end tragically." She later adds: "We have to face up to the hard truth of injustice and systemic racism."

Her Democratic presidential rival, Bernie Sanders, met with the Rev. Al Sharpton on Wednesday. Mr. Sanders then tweeted that "As President, let me be very clear that no one will fight harder to end racism and reform our broken criminal justice system than I will." And he appeared on the TV talk show "The View" saying, "It is not acceptable to see unarmed people being shot by police officers."

Apparently the Black Lives Matter movement has convinced Democrats and progressives that there is an epidemic of racist white police officers killing young black men. Such rhetoric is going to heat up as Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Sanders court minority voters before the Feb. 27 South Carolina primary.

But what if the Black Lives Matter movement is based on fiction? Not just the fictional account of the 2014 police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., but the utter misrepresentation of police shootings generally.

India-Pakistan
US OKs F-16 jets sale to Pakistan
The US government said it had approved the sale to Pakistan of eight F-16 fighter jets built by Lockheed Martin Corp, radars and other equipment.

The Pentagon's Defense Security Co-operation Agency said it had notified lawmakers about the possible sale, valued at $US699 million ($A987.71 million) on Thursday.
WHY? when are our rulers going to understand that the moral decision while difficult in the short term is a lot better over time???

stop selling weapons to Islamist theocrats. Pakistan is one toe from official sharia hell that already afflicts most of its citizenry. If it spreads sharia, sell it no weapons or technology. No weapons for Saudi. No weapons for Pakistan until they can be dragged kicking and screaming into a secular modern era.

#4  Tell your friend from India that we keep our friends close, and our enemies closer.

Would he/she prefer a Pakistan that the US has no influence over? That is armed only with Chinese equipment with only Chinese advisers? It is not the F-22. Relax.
Posted by: Sven the pelter || 02/13/2016 14:38 Comments || Top||

#5  I'd be content with letting the Chinese have Pakistan. Then we can stop sending them billions of dollars in foreign aid every year. Doesn't seem like it buys us a helluva lot of influence when they give aid and comfort to the likes of bin Laden and Zawahiri. As far as I'm concerned, Paks and Chicoms deserve each other.

Come to think of it, how much of that US foreign aid money did they use to buy the F-16s? That's money that goes from the American tax payer to the private pockets of Lockheed and then it gets used to make life difficult for India.

Economy
Carrier HVAC company carries everything from Indy to Mexico.
[Breitbart] Chris Nelson, Carrier's president of HVAC systems and services for North America, published this statement:

This move is intended to address the challenges we continue to face in a rapidly changing HVAC industry, with the continued migration of the HVAC industry to Mexico, including our suppliers and competitors, and ongoing cost and pricing pressures driven, in part, by new regulatory requirements.

Relocating our operations to a region where we have existing infrastructure and a strong supplier base will allow us to operate more cost effectively so that we can continue to produce high-quality HVAC products that are competitively positioned while continuing to meet customer needs.

This decision is difficult and we recognize the impact on employees, their families and the community. We are committed to ensuring that our employees are treated respectfully and to working closely with their representatives throughout this transition.

#10  If we're rapidly getting to the point where all air conditioners are built in Mexico it's not practical to say "Don't buy Carrier". It's like saying "Don't buy computers made in China". It leaves you without any computers to buy. It'll be like when all Fords and then all Chevys and all Dodges are made in Mexico. What are you gonna do? Ride a bike? Well, when you no longer have a job that bicycle might be the only option you have...except it'll be made in China. The bright side is that when the Mexicans have all of our jobs they might stay home.

Africa North
Four U.N. Peacekeepers among 7 Troops Killed in Mali Attacks
[AnNahar] Four United Nations peacekeepers died and several others were wounded when suspected Islamists attacked their base in Mali's restive north, as three Malian soldiers perished in an ambush in the same region, security sources said.

The latest attacks highlighted the vulnerability of the sprawling arid north, where U.N. peacekeepers and Malian soldiers are struggling in their fight against jihadists who had seized vast swathes of territory in 2012.

A camp of the U.N. mission in Mali, or MINUSMA, was attacked early Friday in the strategic town of Kidal in the northeast, a U.N. source said.

Two Guinean soldiers died on the spot. Two other soldiers, among seven seriously wounded, died later of their injuries, the Guinean source said.

"The terrorists attacked with the help of rockets," the U.N. source said. The Malian government said the attack also involved a booby-trapped van.

The raid coincided with a visit to the region by the new chief of MINUSMA, Mahamat Saleh Annadif, who began touring the north on Monday.

Annadif said the raid was an "odious and irresponsible act" which highlighted the "confusion in the ranks of the enemies of peace."

Annadif was in Kidal a week after a peace pact eased tensions in the town, where the arrival early in February of members of a pro-government group had upset the former rebels in the Coordination of Movements of the Azawad.

Azawad is the name the traditionally nomadic Tuareg people of the desert use for territory they regard as their homeland, straddling the southern Sahara and the Sahel.

In a separate attack, three Malian soldiers died and two others were wounded near the fabled city of Timbuktu, a Malian military source said.

"Three of our men died today between Timbuktu and Goundam when they were ambushed by jihadists," a Malian officer told AFP. "Two others were wounded but their lives are not in danger."

The defense ministry confirmed the attack, condemning what it termed a "cowardly" strike.

On Thursday, a customs officer and two civilians were killed in another Islamist strike in the northern town of Hombori, two days after three Malian soldiers died in an explosion while they were patrolling the frontier near Burkina Faso.

Two Guinean soldiers were killed last November in a rocket attack on the MINUSMA base in Kidal, which was claimed by the jihadist group Ansar Dine.

The latest attack came a week after at least four suspected jihadists and a Malian soldier were killed in clashes at a UN camp for police officers from Nigeria in Timbuktu.

That assault came just a day after the fabled city had celebrated the restoration of its greatest treasures -- earthen mausoleums dating to medieval times that were destroyed during an Islamist takeover in 2012.

Responsibility for the raid on Timbuktu was claimed by Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb.

The sprawling north of the country continues to be beset by violence having fallen under the control of Tuareg-led rebels and jihadist groups linked to Al-Qaida in 2012.

The Islamists sidelined the Tuareg to take sole control and although they were largely ousted by a French-led military operation in January 2013 extremist groups still pose a threat.

Large swathes of Mali remain lawless, despite a June peace deal between the former Tuareg rebels and rival pro-government armed groups.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Terror attacks in Israel drop back to pre-escalation level
[IsraelTimes] Shin Bet reports 169 Paleostinian attacks in January, down from 246 in December; lowest numbers since July 2015
Let us hope this thing has burnt out for a while.
The number of terrorist attacks recorded in Israel last month decreased by 32 percent over December, bringing the total to a level that was last observed prior to September's escalation in violence.

The Shin Bet security service documented 169 terrorist attacks by Paleostinians on Israelis in January, compared to 246 such incidents the previous month, the Shin Bet wrote in its monthly report, which it published earlier this week.

It is the first time since July that the number of attacks dropped below the 171 mark observed in August, according to Shin Bet's figures. In September, October and November, Shin Bet recorded 223, 620 and 326 attacks respectively.

In October, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the escalation "a terror wave." It was widely referred to in the Paleostinian media as "the third intifada."

While the overall number of attacks diminished, they proved deadlier last month than in August and July, when no Israelis died as a result of terrorist attacks and fewer than 10 were maimed.

Five Israelis were killed in terrorist attacks last month, compared to only three in December and one person in September. In November and December, 11 and 10 Israelis died in such attacks, respectively.

Dozens of Paleostinians were also killed during the escalation, many of them by security forced or armed civilians while they were carrying out attacks.

Of the 169 incidents recorded in January, 136 involved the hurling of Molotov cocktails at soldiers or civilians.

Iraq
Build up to Mosul: Former ISIS sex slaves now army of ‘Sun Ladies’ ready to defeat terror group
[FoxNews] They witnessed the slaughter of their families on Mount Sinjar, and then were forced by ISIS into sexual slavery. Now the "Sun Ladies" are ready to fight - for veangeance as well as survival.

Some 2,000 Yazidi women who were captured in the brutal August 2014 attack on their mountain stronghold have escaped and have taken up arms against their former tormentors. Driven by the fresh memories of unspeakable atrocities and the survival of their people, hundreds have signed up to fight the black-clad terrorist army.

"Now we are defending ourselves from the evil; we are defending all the minorities in the region," Capt. Khatoon Khider told FoxNews.com from the unit's makeshift base in Duhok, Iraq. "We will do whatever is asked of us."

Khider is one of 123 Yazidi women who have undergone training and taken their place alongside the Kurdish Peshmerga forces, as they skirmish almost daily with ISIS and prepare for a looming assault on the terrorist army's Iraqi base in djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
. The women range in age from 17 to 37, and there are another 500 who are awaiting training.

Khider had no experience with weapons or combat when she approached the Peshmerga senior command and proposed the idea of a specialized all-female Yazidi force after having survived the assault on Mount Sinjar. She hopes that in forming the force, the women will be able to protect themselves and inspire other minority groups to follow suit.

"Our elite force is a model for other women in the region," she said. "We want to thank all the other countries who help us in this difficult time, we want everyone to take up weapons and know how to protect themselves from the evil."

The women willfully stepped into the line of fire as a support force to the Peshmerga on Nov. 13, the day the Kurdish forces took back their hometowns and villages from ISIS occupation. The newly formed unit engaged in direct combat and later helped clear streets and buildings rigged with explosives.

As with the Christians, Kurds and Iraqi military, they know the imminent battle to retake Mosul will be the real test. Iraq's second-largest city, Mosul is the terrorist group's regional base. Most of the Yazidi women who escaped ISIS were held in Mosul and can help provide valuable intelligence, as well as boots on the ground. And fighting to free those left behind provides added motivation.

"We have a lot of our women in Mosul being held as slaves," Khider said. "Their families are waiting for them. We are waiting for them. The liberation might help bring them home."

But one prospect frightens the Yazidi women as they prepare to fight ISIS. Yazidi boys kidnapped from Mount Sinjar have been drugged and brainwashed, and could now be fighting their mothers and sisters under the black flag of ISIS.

"Now there will be terrorist Yazidis, something that never used to be," Khider added. "But we have many missions left. We will do whatever is needed."

New report estimates that Syrian war has killed 470,000 people
War is hell, and estimates based on a known minimum and a variety of guesses are worth what you just paid for this one, dear Reader.
[Rudaw] The Guardian newspaper in Britannia quoted new research carried out by the Syrian Center for Policy Research (SCPR) on Thursday which estimates the five-year war in that country has killed 470,000 people in total.

Previous estimates had put the figure at approximately 250,000 dead. The UN put the number dead at that figure but has stopped counting since August 2015.

SCPR says that 400,000 of its estimated deaths were a direct result of the violence of the Syrian war while the other 70,000 fell victim to lack of proper health or access to clean water and medicine which was brought on by the war.

In addition to almost half-a-million deaths the report estimates 1.9 million people have been maimed. Thanks to this war life expectancy in Syria has declined from 70 in 2010 to 55.4 in 2015.

Iran's windfall from nuclear deal cut in half by debts
[Ynet] Iran gained access to about $100 billion in frozen assets when an international nuclear agreement was implemented last month, but $50 billion of it already was tied up because of debts and other commitments, a U.S. official said on Thursday.
Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, I s'pose.
Stephen Mull, the State Department's lead coordinator for implementing the international nuclear agreement with Tehran, also told the House Foreign Affairs Committee there was no evidence Iran had cheated in the first few weeks since the deal was implemented.
What is not looked for will never be found.

U.S. sanctions three for Islamic State activities

, including one it said was a senior oil official and another it said had recruited Gulf nationals for the murderous Moslem group as early as March 2014.

One of those sanctioned is Faysal Ahmad Ali al-Zahrani, a Saudi citizen, who the Treasury said is responsible for Islamic State's oil and gas activities in areas of northeastern Syria.

Husayn Juaythini, born in a refugee camp in Gazoo, was also sanctioned and was trying to establish a foothold for Islamic State in Gazoo, the Treasury said.

The third man, Bahraini citizen Turki al-Binali, helps Islamic State recruit imported muscle, and as of March 2014, led a support network that recruited Gulf nationals to join Islamic State in Syria, the department said.

Crimean Tatars Outraged as Russia Charges Four with 'Terrorism'
[AnNahar] Crimean Tatars, a minority Muslim group opposed to Russian annexation, on Friday condemned a new wave of repressions after Russian security forces raided homes and charged four with terrorist offences.

"A new wave of repressions has started in Crimea against Crimean Tatars," the community's governing body, the Mejlis, said in a statement.

Crimean prosecutors said the Russian FSB security service had detained four on suspicion of organizing and taking part in the radical Islamist Hizbut Tahrir
...an al-Qaeda recruiting organization banned in most countries. It calls for the reestablishment of the Caliphate...
party.

The lawyer representing the detained men, Emil Kurtbedinov, told AFP on Friday that all four men had already been charged with organizing or joining a terrorist group, for which they could face up to 20 years in jail.

Hizbut Tahrir (Party of Liberation) seeks to re-establish a Caliphate -- a pan-Islamic state based on Islamic rule harking to the medieval era -- and has been banned in Russia since 2003.

Since annexing Crimea in March 2014, Russia has cracked down on the Tatars, an indigenous ethnic group that makes up about 13 percent of its population, many of whom oppose Moscow's rule of the peninsula.

The FSB raided 12 homes, confiscating computers and other electronic devices, a Tatar community leader, Zair Smedlya, told AFP.

The sweep took place across the peninsula including around the Black Sea resort towns of Yalta and Alushta.

Security forces detained 12 people for questioning, eight of whom were later released, Smedlya said.

The search saw security forces break the windows of one house with sleeping children inside, the Mejlis said.

The Ukrainian foreign ministry on Friday condemned "political repression" against the Crimean Tatars, whom it referred to as Ukrainian citizens, and demanded their immediate release.

Crimea's chief prosecutor Natalya Poklonskaya told pro-Kremlin Kryminform news agency that those detained "are not Tatars, they are a terrorist organization. We do not divide up people on the basis of their ethnic group."

Those detained included Emir-Usein Kuku, a member of a rights group that searches for Tatars who have gone missing on the peninsula since its annexation, Tatar front man Smedlya said.

Also detained was an ethnic Russian who converted to Islam.

Arab families trigger ISIS minefield while fleeing to the Peshmerga

(ISIS) and reach the Peshmerga defense lines.

Mahdi Younis, a Peshmerga official at the front told Rudaw that the families were fleeing ISIS as they triggered some landmines planted in the area by the bad boys.

"People surrender to the Peshmerga on the Makhmour on a daily basis, unfortunately today am ISIS landmine was triggered by the families, wounding 11 and killing a three-year old girl," said Younis.

Younis continued: "The Peshmerga rushed the maimed to the hospital."

A Rudaw news hound in Makhmour said the Arab families were from the villages in the Qaraj plains.

"We were on our way when a landmine detonated, people were all screaming, some were running and ISIS Lions of Islam opened fire on us from behind," one survivor told Rudaw.

"Our children are hungry, there were lots of pressures on us, we have nothing to depend for living, life is zero and they [ISIS] treat us badly," he complained.

The escaped villager said schools, hospitals and other services were all shut down in their areas.

Peshmerga official Younis said that since the start of recent festivities between the Peshmerga and ISIS on the Makhmour front around 3,000 people have fled the ISIS territory and to the Kurdish forces.

Build up to Mosul: Iraqi Army forces arrive in Makhmour
[Rudaw] A convoy of Iraqi soldiers arrived, as planned, on the Makhmour front on Thursday. Kurdish officials said the deployment is in cooperation with locals.

The military brigade is reportedly from the Iraqi Army's 15th Division which is being deployed on the Makhmour front as part of the preparations underway for the long-anticipated operation to force Islamic State

, the Iraqi commander for the Mosul operation Najmadin Jbouri told a presser.

Speaking to Rudaw Najat Ali, the top Kurdish commander on that front, said that Iraqi soldiers were permitted entry and the deployment was in done in coordination with Peshmerga forces.

"The brigade is here for the Mosul operation and will leave the region after that," Ali explained.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, Buford bit the snake and Eloise began speaking in tongues...
Iraq's defense ministry said earlier this week that it would deploy some 4,500 soldiers to the Makhmour front for the Mosul operation. The majority of the forces are reportedly Sunni Arabs trained by Americans and coalition forces.
An Nahar quantifies:
AFP correspondents at the base in Makhmur, around 70 kilometers (45 miles) southeast of djinn-infested Mosul, saw 700 soldiers from the 15th division arrive late Thursday.

More soldiers were deployed there on Friday, said an officer who is part of the security command tasked with retaking Nineveh province, of which Mosul is the capital, from the Islamic State group (IS).

A ceremony was held to mark their deployment in Makhmur, which is within territory controlled by Iraq's autonomous Kurdish government.

Iraqi officers have said the plan was to increase the number of federal Iraqi forces in Makhmur to 4,500.

ISIS troops renew attacks on Kobane
[ARA News] KOBANE – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) launched on Friday a fresh attack on the Kurdish city of Kobane, on Syria-Turkey border, targeting headquarters of the People’s Protection Units (YPG).

ISIS militants hit several villages in the western suburb of Kobane with dozens of mortar shells, Kurdish sources reported.

Speaking to ARA News in Kobane, YPG member Nuraddin Gaban said that the ISIS-led attack, which took place on Friday evening, has targeted YPG positions west of the border city.

The jihadi fighters bombed the YPG-held villages of Tel al-Abar, Qereh Qoumlek and Boraz in southwestern Kobane with more than 25 mortar shells.

At least 13 people were wounded during the attack, including civilians and four YPG fighters.

“Today’s attack was a new desperate attempt by ISIS terror group to hit the ranks of the YPG,” Gaban said.

“After losing large territories to the Kurdish forces in Kobane, terrorists of ISIS have repeatedly launched such cowardly attacks to impede the YPG’s progress and to terrorize people who have recently returned to their homes.”

The Kurdish units responded to the attack by bombing ISIS positions on the western bank of the Euphrates River on Friday midnight.

“Our (YPG) units hit ISIS fighting positions near Jarablus with heavy artillery shells and bombed two tactical units,” the YPG member reported, without giving further details on ISIS losses in the counter-attack.

The radical group has been striving to regain positions in the countryside of Kobane and other areas in Aleppo province, north Syria, after losing ground to the Kurds.

On December 26, 2015, Kurdish YPG forces and allied rebels from the western-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) expelled ISIS militants from the Tishreen Dam and dozens of villages on the Euphrates River.

By losing the Tishreen Dam ISIS is considered to have lost one of its most strategic supply lines, as the dam has severed the group for more than two years to move its militants and weapons between its main bastion of Raqqa and the cities of Manbij and Jarablus in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

Albright: 'Special place in hell' comment came at 'wrong time'
[THEHILL] Former secretary of State Madeline Albright is softening her controversial comment that there's a "special place in hell for women who don't help each other" in a New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
opinion piece released Friday afternoon.

Albright has received significant criticism for making the remark while campaigning for Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as The Heroine of Tuzla and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another George C. Marshall ...
. In the op-ed, Albright said she now understands that she "came across as condemning those who disagree with my political preferences."

"I have spent much of my career as a diplomat. It is an occupation in which words and context matter a great deal. So one might assume I know better than to tell a large number of women to go to hell," she writes.

"I absolutely believe what I said, that women should help one another, but this was the wrong context and the wrong time to use that line. I did not mean to argue that women should support a particular candidate based solely on gender."

She added that she's made the comment a number of times in the past because she believes that "in a society where women often feel pressured to tear one another down, our saving grace lies in our willingness to lift one another up."

Albright's comments came days before the feminist icon Gloria Steinem said during an interview that young women may be supporting Sanders in order to meet "boys." Those comments sparked a strong backlash, and Steinem aplogized.

Saudi Authorities Shut down Husayniyah in Ahsaa, Prevent Friday Prayers
[ALMANAR.LB] Saudi authorities prevented Friday prayers in a Husayniyah in al-Ahsaa governorate, as tensions rise over the execution of prominent holy man, Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.
Those poor Shiites with no place to worship.
Khabir electronic newspaper reported that the Saudi authorities shut down Rasoul al-Azam mosque in al-Ahsaa, after preventing Sheikh Hussein Radhi from performing Friday prayers there.

The newspaper said that the move comes after Sheikh Radhi slammed the Saudi authorities.

The move also comes after some media reports said that Sheikh Radhi was summoned for questioning, according to Khabir.

Sheikh Radhi slammed the Saudi regime over the execution of Sheikh Nimr, the war on Yemen

Sheikh Nimr was a vocal supporter of the mass pro-democracy protests against Riyadh, which erupted in Eastern Province in 2011, where a Shia majority has long complained of marginalization.

More recently, a so-called fatwa permitting Muslim men to eat their wives in extreme circumstances went viral on social media. reported on emails and internal details of the operation of the fund under the headline: "Hedge Fund Role Intrudes on Lawmaker's Day Job."

"Alan Grayson used his status as a congressman to unethically promote his Cayman Islands hedge funds, and he should drop out of the Senate race immediately. His actions aren't just disgraceful to the Democratic Party, they disgrace the halls of Congress," Reid's statement said.

It's unusual for a top party leader to weigh in on an internal primary fight. In this case, it's no secret that Democrats in Washington regard Grayson as an unpredictable and potentially problematic candidate due to his high profile divorce fight and reports about his business dealings. But the public rebuke is tough and a sign that top Democrats in Washington are worried Grayson could diminish chances for Democrats to pick up the seat.

President Assad vows recapture of 'whole of Syria'

says the government forces will retake the whole country from terrorists.

In an interview with AFP released on Friday, the Syrian president said the process could "take a long time."

Assad said the eventual goal of the government is to liberate the whole country from the control of the terrorists.

"Regardless of whether we can do that or not, this is a goal we are seeking to achieve without any hesitation," President Assad stated. "It makes no sense for us to say that we will give up any part."

He said that it would be possible to "put an end to this problem in less than a year" if all terrorists' supply routes from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

, Jordan and Iraq were cut, otherwise "the solution will take a long time and will incur a heavy price."

The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria, which began in March 2011, has claimed the lives of some 470,000 people.

Daesh gearing up for chemical attack on US: Clapper
[Iran Press TV] The Daesh [Islamic State] (ISIL) group is seeking to use chemical weapons it has procured against the United States, says the director of US National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

Speaking at an annual global security conference in Munich on Friday, James Clapper said that the Takfiri

terror organization is in possession of chemical weapons and is believed to have used them numerous times in Iraq and Syria.

"It is pretty clear that they [Daesh [Islamic State]] have used this [chemical weapons] numerous times, it is very clear aspirationally they would like to do more and it is a concern to us in the United States because the indications are that they would like to use chemical weapons against us," Clapper said.

Public Prosecutor's Office issues arrest warrants for financial corruption
[Libya Herald] The office of the Libyan Attorney General (Public Prosecutor) based in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
has issued a number of arrest warrants for financial corruption.

The revelation was made at a lengthy presser held yesterday by Sidiq Al-Sour, head of the Investigations Department of the PPO, at Tripoli's Court Complex.

Sour explained some of the major investigations by his department and that have attracted the attention of the general public and gained a lot of media publicity.

These cases included the money laundering / Letters of Credit (LCs) cases through which ''tens of millions'' of FX were allegedly smuggled out of Libya. Sour said that his department had received numerous cases referred to it by the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) and the Audit Bureau.

Sour said that the PPO has issued ''tens of arrest warrants'' for those against whom they have evidence of money laundering or through fake LCs or through false customs duty declarations.

With regards to the notorious ''empty containers'' cases that had attracted much public attention and condemnation, he revealed that the PPO had inspected 50 containers at Tripoli port and that these inspections had revealed that these containers did not contain what they had declared that they were importing.

Turkish artillery hammers airfield near Aleppo
By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

Only hours after declaring a general military mobilization, Turkish troops hit a military airfield near AleppoSsaturday morning, according to Russian language news accounts.

According to a news report posted on Komsomol Pravda, Turkish troops hit the Minneh air base using mortars. The airbase, which Russian press say lies on a strategic road that leads to the Turkish border, was taken over by Kurdish troops two days ago. The airfield had been occupied by al-Nusra troops, which took it in 2013.

The Turkish mobilization was noted by the pro Turkey Azerbaijani news outlet Haqqin.az.

According to the Russian language reports, a Turkish reserve lieutenant identified as Rashad Mammadov tweeted that he had received notification to come to the military recruitment office with all his military equipment. The tweet was deleted and the Twitter account was closed a short time later, but it was noted a screen shot of the tweet was recorded.

A Kurdish military commander said that the Turkish artillery attack did massive damage to the airfield and to a nearby village identified as Marinaz.

The Komsomol Pravda report said that the road along which the airport is sited runs to the Turkish border towns of Azaz and Tell Rifaat. The report said the road has been used by Turkey to support the rebels Turkey has been financing.

A separate Russian language news account which appeared in regnum.ru said that on Thursday Turkish artillery hit targets in the northern Syrian border town of Kessab.

Soddy troops in Turkey

According to another regnum.ru news account, Saudi Arabian troops have been flown to Incirlik air base, and according to a quote by Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, will participate in a ground offensive in Syria.

Another regnum.ru report said that the Saudi troops include special forces ground troops and combat aircraft.

U.S. special forces storm ISIS strongholds north Iraq
[ARA News] ERBIL – American special forces raided strongholds of the Islamic State’s (ISIS) militants in northwestern Iraq and arrested several jihadis, including leading members of the radical group, informed sources in Nineveh reported on Friday.

The special operation, which took place on Thursday midnight, has targeted ISIS strongholds in the sub-districts of Kask and Badoush near the city of Mosul in Nineveh province.

“The U.S. special forces have used about seven Apache helicopters and a drone during the raid,” a security source told ARA News in Mosul, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“The operation has targeted an ISIS security checkpoint and a convoy consisting of three ISIS vehicles. At least 20 militants were arrested, including four jihadi commanders.” the source reported.

The raid was conducted in the area stretching from Kask to Badoush sub-district.

“The arrested members of ISIS were taken by the Apache helicopters to an unknown location,” the security source added.

The operation has reportedly caused a state of alert in the ranks of ISIS militants in Mosul –the group’s main bastion in Iraq.

Yemeni (Houthi & Saleh) Army Regains Control over Fardat Naham, Fires New Qaher1 at Jizan Airbase
[ALMANAR.LB] The Yemeni army and the Popular Committees managed on Friday to regain control over Fardat Naham and inflicted the Saudi-US aggression and its mercenaries dozens of casualties, Al-Manar Website correspondent said.

Saudi war planes had launched earlier hysterical raids on Naham and Hamedan directorates in Sanaa province, using internationally banned cluster bombs.

Moreover, Yemeni national forces continue to advance on the axis of Marib as Saudi invading forces are suffering a large number of dead and maimed in Najran and Jizan.

In a similar development, the Yemeni army fired new Qaher1-type ballistic missile from at Jizan Saudi airbase.

Also in Taiz, leader of Saudi mercenaries in Al-Hassab region, Tawfiq Dabwan, was killed by Yemeni fire.

Afghanistan
A-29s to start combat operations with Afghan Air Force from March: Wardak
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The commander of the Afghan Air Force Major General Abdul Wahab Wardak said Thursday that the A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft will start combat operations with the Afghan Air Force from the month of March.

During a ceremony "Re-birth of the Afghan Air Force" at Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...
International Airport, Gen. Wardak said the Afghan Air Force is expecting to receive a total of 8 A-29 aircraft until March.

Gen. Wardak further added that the Afghan Air Force has so far received four of the eight aircraft from the United States and the remaining four will be handed over in the near future.

He said the aircraft are equipped with cannons, rockets and bombs and will be used to suppress the anti-government armed bully boy groups.

According to Gen. Wardak, the Afghan Air Force is currently operating in four brigades, including two brigades in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
, one in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
and one in Kandahar province.

He said 14 MD-530 warrior helicopters are currently serving with the Afghan Air Force in 12 provinces of the country.

Gen. Wardak also added that 230 Afghan pilots, engineers and other technical staff are currently being trained abroad while 200 others are studying inside the country.

The A-29 is a multi-role, fixed-wing aircraft that will provide the Afghan air force with an indigenous air-to-ground capability and aerial reconnaissance capabilities to support the country's counterinsurgency operations.

Eight Afghan Air Force pilots completed their training late last year and graduated from a program hosted by the 81st Fighter Squadron at Moody Air Force Base in United States and will return to Afghanistan for combat.

[SPECTATOR.ORG] In February 1980 the Republican establishment said that a staunch conservative Hollywood actor could never be president ‎and he won two landslide elections. Trump isn’t Reagan — but he’s one of the most talented retail politicians in modern times. For nine months everyone has been underestimating this man, saying that he was surely going to go away. He’s not going away. He’s rising and proving his critics on the left and right dead wrong. That’s Reaganesque.

#7  An appallingly low percentage of my posts get green lighted, so I'll put this here. Probably the best dissection of the Trump phenomenon. Written by Charles Murray - long and well worth the read. An except:

"But the central truth of Trumpism as a phenomenon is that the entire American working class has legitimate reasons to be angry at the ruling class. During the past half-century of economic growth, virtually none of the rewards have gone to the working class. The economists can supply caveats and refinements to that statement, but the bottom line is stark: The real family income of people in the bottom half of the income distribution hasn’t increased since the late 1960s."

Tunisia: Shipping Container Full of Weapons & Ammo Seized
Tunisian custom files identification brigade Tuesday seized a container full of weapons and ammunition heading towards the governorate of Nabeul. The container was loaded with a sizeable quantity of weapons and ammunition and belonged to a Belgian businessman.

The businessman and another Belgian national have been arrested and are being investigated.

The Belgian businessman was on the verge of getting a residence permit in Tunisia in order to launch a fancy-jewelry-production factory, press reports said wondering who are the suppliers, addressees, sponsors and financiers of the shipment.

Security authorities are also puzzled how could the shipment leave the Tunisian port of Rades unnoticeably despite the presence of customs officials and controllers.
It's a mystery...

This Week in Guns, February 13th, 2016

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

We only know from anonymous sources about the 80-plus arrest warrants being prepared by the federal government for those who were present and active in the Bundy Ranch, the Sugar Pine Mine and the Malhuer Wildlife Refuge armed protests. Mike Vanderboegh calls it the Palmer Raids of the 21st century. The Palmer Raids back in 1919 were coordinated by J. Edgar Hoover.

An awful lot of information is filtering out about what happened at the Bundy Ranch protest in 2014. The lion's share of what I wrote back then is accurate, but we now have a better idea just how bad things were.

If arrests do take place, those who are charged will enter a whole new world, in which they get to evaluate whether their roles justified the charges to be set against them, and especially what to do next.

The Liberty Movement is at a crossroads, with a choice to continue winning those confrontations they can in armed protests, or traveling down a far more radical road. Mass arrests by the federal government will make clear the choices available.

At moment, in my mind, those who wish to continue to be in the Liberty Movement need to understand three words: balaclavas and no Facebook. If you take a selfie, saying, "Hey, look at me, guys! I'm a militiaman", don't be too surprised at what comes for you.

Speaking of something evil coming for you, a new information offensive began this week, sponsored by Michael Bloomberg, called "Singled Out." The basic premise of the campaign is that universal background checks will cure any relationship problems you may have with a gun owner.

Central to that notion is their contention, falsely stated, that loopholes exist in gun purchases, especially in domestic cases where one party, usually male, can still buy a gun even after a protective order has been issued against him as long as he is still in the relationship.

As far as I know, the FBI NICS Center checks for protective orders only, and not any potential Facebook relationship statuses.

Sorry, just "gunsplaining".

Loads.

Pak arrests 97 militants, busts 3 major terror networks
[Daily Excelsior] Pakistain army today said nearly 100 hardcore holy warriors have been jugged
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
, who were involved in several major terror attacks and planning to free top al-Qaeda leader Ahmed Omer Saeed Sheikh,
...the London School of Economics drop-out who went on to be the right hand man of Maulana Masood Azhar, founder of the Jaish-e-Mohammad. We've been following him here at Rantburg for a very long time. The BBC has more on their native son here...
who was allegedly involved in the 9/11 terror attacks in the US.
...and was sent to death row in Pakistan shortly thereafter. Why the sudden urge by three different parties to free him at this late date?
Army front man Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa said that 97 holy warriors belonging to top terror networks like al-Qaeda in the Indian Sub-Continent, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
(LeJ) and Tehrik- e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP), were arrested from here during ongoing intelligence-based operations in the city.

The holy warriors had set up joint task team for carrying out terror attacks in the country and they had been involved in some major terror attacks in the past like the Mehran airbase Bloody Karachi

, Jinnah airport in Karachi, PAF base in Kamra and several others, Bajwa said.

"The first few holy warriors were arrested a few months ago and it led to more arrests," he said.

The arrested holy warriors were also planning to break Hyderabad jail near here, a plan Bajwa described as "nearly executed", to release top al-Qaeda leader Umer Sheikh, sentenced to death for killing The Wall Street journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002.
The arrested holy warriors were also planning to break Hyderabad jail near here, a plan Bajwa described as "nearly executed", to release top al-Qaeda leader Umer Sheikh, sentenced to death for killing The Wall Street journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002.

Umer Sheikh, who was released by India in 1999 and given safe passage to Afghanistan in exchange for the nearly 150 passengers of hijacked Indian Airlines Flight 814, allegedly also played a crucial role in the September 2001 attacks in the US.

The perpetrators also had a list of 35 prisoners they wanted to kill, he said.

Bajwa said Karachi operation launched in September 2013 had achieved major success as over 12,000 suspects were arrested in over 7,000 raids, leading to dramatic decrease in crimes of killings, kidnapping and extortions.

He, however, stressed that more work needed to be done to completely rid the metropolis of violence and terrorism.

"The Karachi operation will continue till complete peace is achieved in the city," he said.
An Nahar adds, with regard to springing the British-born Umer Sheikh:
Bajwa told a Bloody Karachi

Naeem Bukhari."

Mussanah, Bukhari, and a man said to be their handler, named Huzaifa, were later paraded before the media in handcuffs.

Bajwa said the perpetrators had prepared two explosive-laden vehicles which they were supposed to ram into the gate of the prison.

Saudi Arabia still insisting on removal of Assad amid peace efforts
[Iran Press TV] While international negotiators have agreed on a ceasefire and humanitarian access to besieged towns in Syria, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The agreement was signed on Friday following a meeting of the International Syrian Support Group (ISSG) in the German city of Munich.

Speaking at the 52nd Munich Security Conference (MSC) on Friday, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir called Assad the "single most effective magnet for Lions of Islam and faceless myrmidons in the region," claiming that his removal was vital for restoring stability in the country and defeating the Daesh [Islamic State] terrorist group, which has captured parts of Syria and neighboring Iraq.

"That (Assad's ouster) is our objective and we will achieve it," Jubeir said. "Unless and until there is a change in Syria, Daesh [Islamic State] will not be defeated in Syria, period," he argued.

How is Al-Qaeda in Yemen simulating Houthis attacks?
[AlArabiya] The methods of Al-Qaeda in Yemen, which is witnessing an internal coup, is becoming increasingly similar to the Houthi rebels’ approach.

President urges people not to observe Valentine's Day
[DAWN] President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday urged people of the country not to observe Valentine's Day, saying that it was not a part of Muslim tradition, but of the West.
An "I don't like you" card costs about 30 rupees.
Addressing a function held here to pay homage to Pakistain Movement leader Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar on his death anniversary, the president said: "Valentine's Day has no connection with our culture and it should be avoided."

He said drawbacks of western culture had adversely affected one of our neighbouring countries.

Talking about the education system in the country, the president said there was a need to formulate educational curriculum of Pakistain according to the requirements of the modern age and ideology of Pakistain. "Work in this regard is under way and soon new curriculum with consensus of all stakeholders would be implemented," he said.

Ya know, I have no problem with this statement. He's correct. The problem comes when you look at the details in the "urging". Now, if anyone wants to celebrate they should be allowed to. If your urging means asking them not to fine. If your urging involves stones, whips or iron bars? Not cool.

Pakistan is fighting terror war alone, says Ms Rehman
[DAWN] Pakistain is fighting one of the largest inland wars on terrorism alone, says Senator Sherry Rehman.

"I don't see anyone else stepping up to resource this battle, although this is hardly strategic justice," she said at a seminar here at the School of Advanced International Studies, John Hopkins University.

Senator Rehman, who is also a former Pak ambassador to the US said that after the bloodbath in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
and Charsadda where students were targeted, the international community "cannot just watch as forces of Evil continue to kill" innocent Paks.

Speaking on "Building Pakistain's Peace and Security," she said, "We are not laying the blame on other countries, nor do we get into finger-pointing about whose ungoverned spaces provide sanctuary for which high-value target".

"But terrorism is now a global epidemic, and the international community needs to build a lasting multi-lateral coalition against it," she said.

Ms Rehman said violent extremism was not something that could be contained by "kinetic means alone. It must be addressed as a hearts-and-mind challenge".

She said this meant facing up to the reality that had caused policy miscalculations both at home and abroad.

"Pakistain is now in a serious long-haul battle pitched between Jinnah's Pakistain and Zia's Pakistain," said the PPP leader while pointing out that the mainstream Pakistain still "votes for Jinnah and his vision".

'We do not vote in religious parties to the PM's office, and we are now looking to reverse the extremism that has crept into society at the hands of a dictator we neither chose nor coddled," she said.

Her host, Dean Vali Nasr, who is also a former adviser to the US State Department, appreciated Pakistain parliament's decision to stay out of the Middle East's sectarian conflict.

Noting China's enhanced role in the region which Ms Rehman saw as a net positive for economic stability, especially with the growing need for jobs in a large youth cohort.

"I hope a political settlement for Afghanistan is not just a bumper sticker, and that Pakistain will not be left with the fallout of this long war next door again," she said.

She noted that 30 years ago the US-led coalition won the war in Afghanistan, but lost the peace.

"This time it looks like nobody is winning the war or the peace, which is unsettling for all stakeholders in inclusive, progressive societies," she said.

Ms Rehman said Pakistain was not treating Afghanistan as its strategic backyard anymore, but its "refugee issue always becomes a niche conversation, while the rest of the globe closes its borders, we have kept our border and our cities open for all those ravaged by wars."

Munich Meeting Agrees on "Cessation of Hostilities" in Syria within Week
[ALMANAR.LB] World powers on Friday agreed an ambitious plan to cease hostilities in Syria within a week and dramatically ramp up humanitarian access at talks in Munich aimed at reviving the struggling grinding of the peace processor.

The 17 countries agreed "to implement a nationwide cessation of hostilities to begin in a target of one week's time," said US Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry

after extended talks co-hosted by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The so-called 'International Syria Support Group' also agreed "to accelerate and expand the delivery of humanitarian aid beginning immediately".

"Sustained delivery will begin this week, first to the areas where it is most urgently needed... and then to all the people in need throughout the country, particularly in the besieged and hard to reach areas," said Kerry.

Earlier this month, the Syrian army and allied forces pressed an offensive on the key terrorists' stronghold of Aleppo.

Kerry said talks between opposition factions and the Syrian government would resume as soon as possible, but warned that "what we have here are words on paper -- what we need to see in the next few days are actions on the ground."

For his part, Lavrov called "for direct contacts between the Russian and US military" in Syria and said negotiations on a political transition "have to start as soon as possible, without ultimatums and preconditions".

Kerry said the cessation of hostilities would apply to all groups apart from "the terrorist organizations" of the so-called 'Islamic State

Tunisia Prepares for Impact of Possible Intervention in Libya
[ALMANAR.LB] Tunisia said Friday that it was asking its regional authorities to work on a plan to cope with the fallout of a possible foreign military intervention in neighboring war-torn Libya.

In 2011, hundreds of thousands of people fled from Libya to Tunisia -- a country of around 11 million -- to escape fighting that led to the fall of longtime dictator Moamer Qadaffy.

Tunisia shares a southeastern border with Libya, where Western powers are openly considering an intervention against the Takfiri

in Iraq and Levant), which has gained influence there in the chaos following Qadaffy's ouster.

"In preparation for the situation developing and its consequences, Prime Minister Habib Essid has authorized governors in the southeast regions to form regional committees," a government statement said.

These will include "the different parties concerned in order to draw up a plan for each governorate to successfully face... exceptional events that could occur," it said, without giving further details.

On Thursday, the health ministry said it had met to discuss "an emergency plan for the health sector... in preparation for the influx on Tunisian soil of refugees and migrants fleeing military air strikes that could occur in Libya."

Last week, President Beji Caid Essebsi issued a warning to countries considering an intervention in Libya.

"Don't just think of your own interests," he said. "Think of the interests of neighboring countries, starting with Tunisia."

"Before any such act, please consult us, because it could serve you, but adversely affect us."

Somali national in Minnesota to plead guilty in IS case
A Minnesota man accused of conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State group is expected to plead guilty. Twenty-year-old Abdirizak Mohamed Warsame is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court on Thursday for a change of plea hearing.

Court documents allege Warsame tried to help other young men from Minnesota’s Somali community travel to Syria to fight for the Islamic State group.

Nine other members of that group were charged previously; one is believed to be in Syria and three have already pleaded guilty. Five others are scheduled to go to trial in May and a hearing in their case is also scheduled for Thursday. That hearing will address several pretrial issues.

She is the eldest of five children of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangla. Her party defeated the BNP-led Four-Party Alliance in the 2008 parliamentary elections. She has once before held the office, from 1996 to 2001, when she was defeated in a landslide. She and the head of the BNP, Khaleda Zia show such blind animosity toward each other that they are known as the Battling Begums..
based on information provided by the DGFI.

"He has already lost his credibility by publishing those fake stories and now he should quit the newspaper as the readers have lost their faith in him," Nasim said at a joint meeting of the Jubo League
... the youth wing of the Bangla Awami League...
in Dhaka yesterday.

"There is no guarantee that he [Mahfuz] will not run such stories in future to mislead the nation," said Nasim, also the Awami League-led 14-party alliance spokesperson.

On a TV talk show earlier this month, Mahfuz admitted to running graft stories against Hasina during the 2007-08 military-backed caretaker regime on information fed by the military intelligence outfit DGFI.

"I admit it. It was a big mistake as an editor, in my journalism career," he said on the talk show. The editor later clarified that it was a lapse in his editorial judgment in publishing reports without verifying them independently.

Nasim said: "Mahfuz Anam aimed at removing Hasina from politics and bring anti-democratic forces to power to implement the scheme of the DGFI."

The beleaguered editor has been accused in several defamation cases. Prime Minister Hasina's son, and also her ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy and several MPs have demanded legal action against him.

Assad: Talks Don't Mean to Stop Fighting Terrorism
[ALMANAR.LB] As he said he supports peace talks aimed at finding solution to the Syrian crisis, Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Trampler of Homs...
stressed that negotiations don't mean to stop fighting terrorism.

In an interview with Agence La Belle France Presse (AFP), Assad said the Syrian government has "fully believed in negotiations and in political action since the beginning of the crisis."

Syrian President Bashir al-Assad"However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
if we negotiate, it does not mean that we stop fighting terrorism. The two tracks are inevitable in Syria."

Speaking at his office in Damascus on Thursday, Assad has vowed to retake the entire country but warned it could take a long time.

He said his government's eventual goal was to retake all of Syria, noting: "regardless of whether we can do that or not, this is a goal we are seeking to achieve without any hesitation," he said.

"It makes no sense for us to say that we will give up any part," Assad added.

The Syrian president said it would be possible to "put an end to this problem in less than a year" if opposition supply routes from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, Jordan and Iraq were cut."

But, if not, he said, "the solution will take a long time and will incur a heavy price."

Talking about the major offensive under way in the northern province of Aleppo, Assad said it was aimed mainly at severing the Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
myrmidons' supply route from Turkey.

"The main battle is about cutting the road between Aleppo and Turkey, for Turkey is the main conduit of supplies for the terrorists," he said.

Assad said he saw a risk that Turkey and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, key backers of the opposition, would intervene militarily in Syria.

He also addressed the massive flow of refugees from his country, saying it was up to Europe to stop "giving cover to terrorists" so that Syrians could return home.

Assad said the blame for the refugees influx lay at Europe's feet.
"I would like to ask every person who left Syria to come back," he said.

"They would ask 'why should I come back? Has terrorism stopped?'"

Instead, he urged Europe's governments "which have been a direct cause for the emigration of these people, by giving cover to murderous Moslems in the beginning and through sanctions imposed on Syria, to help in making the Syrians return to their country."

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, Bossy was furiously chewing her cud and thinking...
the Syrian president Assad rejected UN allegations of regime war crimes, describing them as politicized and lacking evidence.

No organised presence of IS in Pakistan, says FO. Really.
[DAWN] Despite intelligence warnings that the murderous Moslem Islamic State

(IS) group is an emerging threat, Foreign Office insists that the Middle Eastern terrorist group has "no organised presence" in the country.

"Let me reiterate that there is no organised presence of Daesh [Islamic State], the Arabic acronym for IS, in Pakistain," FO front man Nafees Zakaria said on Thursday.

The new front man, who was holding his first media briefing, was answering a question about the testimony by Aftab Sultan, the chief of the Intelligence Bureau, the lead civilian intelligence agency, before a Senate committee on Wednesday that IS was an emerging threat, particularly because of the support of local terrorist and murderous Moslem organizations, including the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain, Sipah-e-Sahaba (now operating under the name of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat
...which is the false nose and plastic mustache of the murderous banned extremist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain, whatcha might call the political wing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain.
IS has been discussed as an emerging threat at different national forums in the past as well.

Speaking at a corps commanders' conference on Wednesday, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif
..Pak chief of army staff, meaning he pulls the strings on the Nawaz Sharif puppet to make it dance and sing and not do much at all....
cautioned about local abettors of terrorists. However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
he did not directly link his observation to IS.

Foreign Office has all along maintained that IS is not a major security threat for the country, but such assertions have failed to quash fears about the group, which has found a foothold in neighbouring Afghanistan and reports about its activities inside Pakistain keep coming.

Several sleeper cells and recruiting rings of IS are said to have been busted by security agencies.

Carter: UAE to Deploy Special Forces, Jets in Anti-ISIL Campaign
[ALMANAR.LB] Pentagon chief Ashton Carter said Friday that the United Arab Emirates wants to deploy commandos to help train forces fighting Takfiri

in Iraq and Levant) and will resume its contribution to the US-led air campaign.

Carter met top UAE officials in Brussels following a landmark summit of anti-ISIL coalition members to discuss ways to step up the fight against the Takfiri group in Iraq and Syria.

"They indicated to me their willingness to do more, which is important, specifically to re-start their participation in the air campaign, secondly to work with us on the ground," Carter said.

UAE special operations forces would help train and advise -- as well as arm -- anti-ISIL forces in Syria and local partners in Iraq, including Sunni groups and the Kurdish Peshmerga, Carter said, but did not say how big the force would be.

"What is needed in the Sunni parts of Iraq is capacity among moderate Sunnis to re-occupy and govern that territory and keep a multi-sectarian Iraq together," Carter said. "The Emiratis can be an important part of that."

Carter's remarks come as world powers met in Munich on Friday and agreed an ambitious plan to cease hostilities in war-racked Syria.

But the Pentagon chief said Munich accord will not apply to ISIL and Al-Qaeda's local branch. "There is no ceasefire in the war against ISIL," Carter said, adding: "be clear about that."

US launched 20 airstrikes against ISIS militants in Afghanistan in 3 weeks
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The United States Forces in Afghanistan have carried out at least 20 Arclight airstrikes targeting the loyalists of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group in the past three weeks, it has been reported.

The US forces have increased air raids on the loyalists of the terror group after the B.O. regime granted new authority last month, allowing the U.S. commanders in Afghanistan launch Arclight airstrikes against holy warriors in the same way that the military targets fighters linked to al-Qaeda.

The move by the B.O. regime followed shortly after the U.S. Department of State designated the Khorasan branch of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
... the current version of al-Qaeda in Iraq, just as blood-thirsty and well-beloved as the original...
(ISIL) as a terrorist organization.

According to the US officials quoted by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named, the Arclight airstrikes were carried out in eastern parts of the country in the past three weeks.

There have been growing concerns that the loyalists of the terror group are attempting to expand foothold in the country as they try to establish a regional base of operations in eastern Nangarhar

province of Afghanistan.

Army Brig. Gen. Wilson A. Shoffner told news hounds that 1,000 to 3,000 Islamic State fighters in eastern Afghanistan are trying to establish a base of operations in the rugged mountains of Nangahar Province.

He said the loyalists of the terror group are operating in four or five remote districts of Nangarhar province.

"We're seeing [ISIL] attempting to establish a base of operations there," he said. "Afghan cops have had quite a bit of success against them," Gen. Shoffner said.

Porn star 'extremely disappointed' to be cut out of Cruz ad
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] The porn star inadvertently featured in Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's recent campaign ad is speaking out after the ad was taken down once Cruz's campaign realized what she did for a living.
I'm really confused here...
"Extremely disappointed the #TedCruz campaign pulled the national television spot I had a role in ... #moretocome #myvotecounts," Amy Lindsay tweeted late Thursday night.
Okay. I looked at the vid, and she had all her clothes on, and she was on-screen for maybe ten seconds.
She also vented her frustrations on Facebook early Friday morning.
When I'm frustrated I... ummm... don't think about Facebook.
"Anyone who knows me or knows my 'work' knows it is rated R... Jeez," she said. "I told the rags that I thought it was cool that I could be socially liberal & fiscally conservative. I'm voting republican period. I honestly saw the 'left's' war on women tonight!!
Rated "R" means she showed her boobies? Like on "Game of Thrones" or something like that?
"Unbelievable....So much for me staying out of political posts...but in the spirit of someone else: if they attack or defame me...hey I'm fighting back!"
Good for you.
The ad in question was released Thursday and called "Conservatives Anonymous." The spot features seven people, including Lindsay, sitting in a circle and expressing their regret for supporting Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.
The ad itself was pretty stoopid...
It was pulled once the Cruz campaign found out that Lindsay had appeared in multiple adult movies.
But they were rated "R"?
"The actress responded to an open casting call," Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler told BuzzFeed News. "She passed her audition and got the job. Unfortunately, she was not vetted by the production company. Had the campaign known of her full filmography, we obviously would not have let her appear in the ad."
Obviously. For a while there I thought Ted Cruz was a better idea than Donald Trump.
As of last night, Lindsay said she was still choosing between Cruz and Donald Trump for her vote in the 2016 presidential election.
I dunno about her, but my mind's made up.

Republican Jim Gilmore to Suspend Presidential Campaign
[FREEBEACON] Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore announced on Friday that he will be suspending his presidential campaign, according to the Washington Examiner.
The campaign nobody seemed to notice...
"My campaign was intended to offer the gubernatorial experience, with the track record of a true conservative, experienced in national security, to unite the party," Gilmore said. "My goal was to focus on the importance of this election as a real turning point, and to emphasize the dangers of continuing on a road that will further undermine America's economy and weaken our national security."

"Nonetheless, I will continue to express my concerns about the dangers of electing someone who has pledged to continue Obama's disastrous policies and I will continue to do everything I can to ensure that our next president is a free enterprise Republican who will restore our nation to greatness and keep our citizens safe."

DCCC Gives Up on Multiple House Races
[FREEBEACON] In announcing its most promising candidates challenging Republican congressmen this year, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) effectively admitted that it has given up on winning three House races in the 2016 election.

On Thursday, the DCCC unveiled the first members of its "Red to Blue" program, designed to highlight promising Democratic candidates running in Republican-held districts. In sum, 31 candidates and districts make up the list for this election cycle.

Notably absent from the list are the Democrats running in three districts held by first-term Republicans that the committee pledged to target one year ago.

In February 2015, the DCCC unveiled its "One-Term Wonders" list, profiling 15 "vulnerable" freshmen Republican congressmen that it would scrutinize leading up to the 2016 election. Three of those "vulnerable" Republican districts--Arizona's 2nd district, Illinois' 12th district, and Pennsylvania's 6th district--are not being challenged by the "promising" Democratic candidates listed in the "Red to Blue" program.

The DCCC also appears to have pulled its website for the "One-Term Wonders" candidates, a possible acknowledgment of its failure to target the first-term Republican representatives.

The DCCC's "Red to Blue" candidates in 2014 had a combined record of 4 wins and 36 losses.

UPDATE 3:55 P.M.: An archived version of the DCCC's "One-Term Wonders" website shows that two additional Republican-held districts that the committee intended to target in 2016 are not among the districts being challenged by its "Red to Blue" program candidates. This indicates that the DCCC has given up on winning a total of five House races in 2016.

Syrian troops make new gains north Aleppo
[ARA News] ALEPPO – Forces loyal to the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Friday recaptured new areas in the northern province of Aleppo, pushing rebel fighters back near the border with Turkey, according to military sources.

Supported by a Russian air cover, pro-Assad troops regained control of the Tamoura town and the surrounding hills subsequent to fierce clashes with rebel fighters.

“Seizing control of Tamoura and the surrounding hills will enable pro-Assad forces to cut off the rebel’s main supply line between the northern countryside of Aleppo and the western parts of the province,” local media activist Khalid al-Jassim told ARA News.

“Amid intensified Russian airstrikes on rebel positions, pro-Assad army and allied militants of Hezbollah have recaptured several strategic points in northern Aleppo overt the past two days,” the source reported.

Rebel groups, including the Levant Front and Ahrar al-Sham, have reportedly evacuated their strongholds in several towns and villages in the province, in a bid to avoid the Russian airstrikes.

At least 23 rebel fighters were killed in Russian raids on Friday. In the meantime, the regime’s army lost some 15 fighters in clashes with rebel groups in northern Aleppo, according to Saleh Zein, official spokesman of the Levant Front.

Taliban supporters met in Kabul Hotel to speak against Afghan forces
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A group of individuals affiliated with the Taliban group recently met in Intercontinental Hotel to speak against the Afghan cops who are currently busy in clearing operations in northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan.

A source privy of the development told Khaama Press that the individuals met on Thursday in a gathering organized in Intercontinental Hotel to launch a media campaign against Afghan forces, accusing them of cutting the trees and attacking the houses of local residents.

The source speaking on the condition of anonymity further added that the individuals are directly affiliated with the Taliban group and the gathering was organized in a bid to prevent military operation in Dand-e-Ghori district.

The gathering was organized by an individual identified as Sardar, brother of a Taliban leader Mawlavi Mamoor, who is currently serving in Pul-e-Charkhi prison of Kabul

According to the official, other individuals involved in organizing the event, are Haji Sher Alam, also known as Maso Khan and Sardar who are linked with Masto Khan's cousin, serving with Taliban group in Dand-e-Ghor district.

The three individuals are working under Mawlvi Helal, Taliban's shadow district governor for Pul-e-Khumri city, the source said, adding that Sardar and Masto Khan were tasked to organize a demonstration and a presser in Baghlan with the support of Kharullah Shenwari.

The sources also added that Masto Khan was looking to obtain arms and ammunition in exchange for the freedom of three police offices kidnapped from Baghlan province earlier.

Masto Khan is also involved in destroying electricity pylons in Baghlan province, the source said, adding that he has filmed the areas destroyed during the festivities and has instructed his followers to use them against the Afghan forces.

Libya: IS fleeing southwards dodging airstrikes
Intelligence sources have claimed that the militants of the IS group in Libya have begun to flee southwards and could be heading to neighboring Sahel countries as fears over western airstrikes increase.

Colonel Mahamane Laminou Sani, Director of Niger’s armed forces documentation and military intelligence agency, confirmed that militants of the extremist group are “moving towards southern Libya” and added that “if something like that happens, the whole Sahel is affected.”

According to reports emerging from the coastal town of Sirte, an IS stronghold, the group is evacuating some districts and fighters were building defenses around the city. The arrival of IS in the Sahara desert could lead to clashes with rival group, Al-Qaeda in the Maghreb (AQIM) based in the desert.

Laurence Aida Ammour, a consultant and Sahel security expert, told participants at the ongoing annual Flintlock counter-terrorism conference in Senegal, held under the US military Africa Command, that airstrikes against IS in Libya would create a “mercury effect” as fighters will seek refuge in all directions including towards “Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso and Benin.” With the presence of Boko Haram in Nigeria, an IS affiliate, the situation in the Sahel could worsen.

Chad is already fighting Boko Haram along its border and Colonel Khassim Moussa, head of Chad’s Special Antiterrorism Group, said northern traditional and religious leaders have been informed to stop the extremists from entering the country as he blamed NATO for the Libyan chaos saying “it’s them who got involved in Libya, it’s up to them to fix it.”

The effect of the Libyan war is already being felt in Sudan where the government accused Sudanese rebel groups of being behind the recent clashes in the southern Libyan town of Kufra where violence has been raging for 3days.

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's foreign minister defended his country's treatment of women on Friday, saying it had made progress on female education but would take time to let them drive cars.

"When it comes to issues like women's driving, this is not a religious issue, it's a societal issue," Adel al-Jubeir told an audience at the Munich Security Conference.

He said it was unfair to fixate on the issue of women drivers, given the ultra-conservative Islamic kingdom's efforts to educate girls.

"We went from no schools for women in 1960 to universal education, to where today 55 percent of college students are women," said Jubeir.

"Some of our top doctors and engineers and lawyers and business people are women. The issue is one that is evolving just like it is in other countries."

He compared Saudi Arabia to the United States, arguing that it took 100 years after America's independence before women were given the right to vote, and another 100 years for it to elect its first female parliamentary speaker.

"I'm not saying 'Give us 200 years'. I'm saying 'be patient'," said Jubeir.

Sy. Military Advances in Rural Aleppo, Expands Secure Zone near Nubbul, Zahraa
[ALMANAR.LB] The Syrian army and allied forces established control on Friday over the "Dahrat Al-Qaraa" and "Dahrat Al-Qandila" hills overlooking Tamorah village south-west of the town of Zahraa in northern Aleppo countryside, cutting off the turbans supply route between Tamorah and Andan towns.

Moreover, the Syrian national military took control over the western quarries of Tamorah and the concrete factories in the town, killing more than 15 turbans amid artillery and missile fire targeting the gunnies's deployment points in the region.

The latest military achievement expanded the south-west area around the liberated Nubbul and Zahraa towns that is being secured by the army and allied military units.
