H/T Don Surber. This one's priceless:
I was going to read this book.....I really was. But just as I got started, I found myself under sniper fire, passed out, and fell and hit my head. After that I got double vision and had to wear glasses that were so damn thick I couldn't even see to read. As if that wasn't enough, I then had an allergic reaction to something and started coughing so hard I spit out what looked like a couple of lizard's eyeballs, my limbs locked up, and I passed out and fell down again, waking up only to find out I had been diagnosed with pneumonia 2 days earlier. Somehow I managed to power through it all, but it's a good thing I was able to make a small fortune on this random small trade in the commodities market (cattle futures or some such thing) and then, miracle of all miracles, a few banks offered me a few million to just talk to their employees for a few minutes - and all that really helped out because I swear I was dead broke and couldn't figure out how I was gonna come up with the 6 bucks to pay for this book, let alone pay the $1,500 for my health insurance this month. I still want to read it, but, honestly, what difference at this point does it make? I hear it sucks anyway.
There are 787 reviews as of 11:20 a.m. ET. Eighty-four percent gave it one star.

Nothing new here. The book is full of lies, just like Hillary. I'm leaving a five star review so I don't get straight up murdered.

Went through 15/85 (at the time) pages of reviews. I think there were only a couple 5-star reviews who were actually for the book, the others 5-stars were satire.
My favorite, actually, was a pro-Hillary post which went something like, "Don't listen to the one star reviews - they are all Trump supporters, and Amazon should shut down the comments."

Thought Hildabeest wrote a book already and it was a flop. This one was a flop too. You'd think the publishers would quit advancing her big bucks. I'll file this away as just another Clintonista money laundering scheme.
And why he is cheating to elect Trump?
[DallasNews] If Hillary Clinton is elected president, the world will remember Aug. 25 as the day she began the Second Cold War.
In a speech last month nominally about Donald Trump, Clinton called Russian President Vladimir Putin the godfather of right-wing, extreme nationalism. To Kremlin-watchers, those were not random epithets. Two years earlier, in the most famous address of his career, Putin accused the West of backing an armed seizure of power in Ukraine by "extremists, nationalists, and right-wingers." Clinton had not merely insulted Russia's president: She had done so in his own words.
Worse, they were words originally directed at neo-Nazis. In Moscow, this was seen as a reprise of Clinton's comments comparing Putin to Hitler. It injected an element of personal animus into an already strained relationship. But, more importantly, it set up Putin as the representative of an ideology that is fundamentally opposed to the United States. Clinton had ideology?
To Russian ears, Clinton seemed determined in her speech to provide this missing ingredient for bipolar enmity, painting Moscow as the vanguard for racism, intolerance, and misogyny around the globe.
The nation Clinton described was unrecognizable to its citizens. Anti-woman? Putin's government provides working mothers with three years of subsidized family leave. Intolerant? The president personally attended the opening of Moscow's great mosque. Racist? Putin often touts Russia's ethnic diversity. To Russians, it appeared that Clinton was straining to fabricate a rationale for hostilities. Always having a crisis on hot-standby?
Let's not mince words: Moscow perceives the former secretary of state as an existential threat. The Russian foreign-policy experts I consulted did not harbor even grudging respect for Clinton. The most damaging chapter of her tenure was the NATO intervention in Libya, which Russia could have prevented with its veto in the U.N. Security Council. Moscow allowed the mission to go forward only because Clinton had promised that a no-fly zone would not be used as cover for regime change.
Russia's leaders were understandably furious when, not only was former Libyan President Moammar Gadhafi ousted, but a cellphone recording of his last moments showed U.S.-backed rebels sodomizing him with a bayonet. They were even more enraged by Clinton's videotaped response to the same news: "We came, we saw, he died," the secretary of state quipped before bursting into laughter, cementing her reputation in Moscow as a duplicitous warmonger. I'm not yet totally convinced about the warmonger part.
I'd go with functional psychopath. But that's just my opinion.
Her temper became legendary in Moscow when she breached diplomatic protocol by storming out of a meeting with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov just moments after exchanging pleasantries. And the perception that she is unstable was exacerbated by reports that Clinton drank heavily while acting as America's top diplomat - accusations that carry special weight in a country that faults alcoholism for many of Boris Yeltsin's failures.
Moscow prefers Trump not because it sees him as easily manipulated, but because his "America First" agenda coincides with its view of international relations. Russia seeks a return to classical international law, in which states negotiate with one another based on mutually understood self-interests untainted by ideology. To Moscow, only the predictability of realpolitik can provide the coherence and stability necessary for a durable peace. And Clinton likes it for the 'Putin stole the election for Trump' aspect.
Cultural differences in decorum have made the situation worse. In Russia, where it is considered a sign of mental illness to so much as smile at a stranger on the street, leaders are expected to project an image of stern calm. Through that prism, Clinton has shown what looks like disturbing behavior on the campaign trail: barking like a dog, bobbing her head, and making exaggerated faces. (To be clear, my point is not that these are real signs of cognitive decay, but that many perceive them that way in Moscow.)

Resetting the reset.
Lefties still resent Eastern Europeans for overthrowing their Communist regimes.
The ingrates!
As for Putin, he'll push Russia's interests as he sees them, and our leadership should respond when our interest are stake, without making it a personal vendetta.

This essay makes the highest sense to me. I'd jump it a bit farther on the strategic implications, but for what it is and what it contemplates, this essay feels to me like a spread of illumination rounds in the conceptual night that is Washington D.C. and its academic supports.
Yuppers: national interest rather than ideological nausea.
The "farther" I would take it is about grand national strategic objective, I call it Three Brothers Doctrine: http://theological-geography.net/?s=three+brothers+strateg
A person carried out a stabbing attack on Saturday at a mall in St. Cloud, Minnesota, injuring at least eight people before dying in the violent incident, officials said.
The attack at the Crossroads Mall about 60 miles (97 km) northwest of Minneapolis broke out shortly after 8 p.m. local time, St. Cloud police said in a statement.
Witnesses told media that they heard gunshots.
Police later confirmed the suspect was killed, according to the St. Cloud Times. Move along, nothing to see here.
Update from Breitbart courtesy of BrerRabbit at 8:10 a.m. ET:
Update 1:10 AM ET: In a press briefing, police officials confirmed that the suspect made “references to Allah” while conducting the terrorist attack and “asked at least one person if they were Muslim when they assaulted them.” Officials noted that there is “no evidence” that any other individuals were involved in the attack, and there is “no imminent threat” to civilians as the suspect was killed in a confrontation.
The suspect is has no significant criminal background, police noted, with only three incidents on his record, “most minor traffic violations.”
The individual in question was wearing a “private security uniform.” Officials do not have any evidence tying it to “any other incident,” including the bombs discovered in New Jersey and an explosion in New York.
St. Cloud Police Chief Blair Anderson said police still “need to figure out what the motivation was” before confirming that the incident was an instance of jihad.
Mayor Dave Kleis said the mall will remain close “until further notice.”
Update 1:04 AM ET: Witnesses speaking to the St. Cloud Times report seeing the victims “drenched” in blood, and witnessing one victim bleeding from the back and another “from the side of his face.” Minnesota radio station Rockin’ 101.7 reports that police have postponed a press conference scheduled for 11PM local time until more information is readily available. The radio station notes that reports indicate the suspect is dead and his remains are in the mall’s Macy’s store.
Update 12:33 AM ET: Video uploaded to YouTube by Hannah Kosloski appears to show the developing situation within the Crossroads mall. Police have begun to allow people to leave in an orderly fashion, demanding identification to chronicle every person who was in the mall at the time of the attack.

The incident appears to have begun sometime between 8:20 and 9PM local time, according to various local news reports. The St. Cloud Times reports that the mall has been walled off by a “major police presence,” and that multiple people have been stabbed. While the police confirmed that they believe the suspect is dead, though they are following other leads on potential accomplices, they have not indicated the condition of those injured.
“Unofficial reports from the scene say there may be multiple gunshot and stabbing victims,” the Times reports.
Local NBC affiliate KARE 11 has posted some photos of the mall and confirmed that the suspect is dead.
Witnesses say the incident occurred quickly, with no notifications from mall personnel that an emergency was ongoing. Those who escaped say they only began running for exits when seeing a swarm of people screaming and running out.
In a press statement, St. Cloud police confirmed only that there were “multiple stabbings” and the “individual responsible… is deceased inside the mall.” Police are conducting “precautionary searches,” and “the incident is ongoing and is an active investigation.” They have scheduled a press conference for 11PM local time.

Any particular Reason WHY this is NOT covered in the MS Media when the bombing in New York IS covered?
Eight people is not an insignificant number. Nature of stab wounds? There ARE lots of ways to stab people ? "I'se gwine cuttcha ! Weapon used? razor or table knife.?
Nuthin" reporting, sunstandard. Just blah actually. Happens every day up there so they didn't actually send a professional by to get the facts?

Ynet reports ISIS said he heeded their call to attack. Not the same as being a trained member of a planned attack, but part of the jihad nonetheless... and the traditional anvil in the target country to the hammer of a formal frontal attack coming across the border from Dar al Islam.

More Breitbart: The Saint Cloud Times is reporting Dahir Adan, a member of the local Somali Community, was the man who attacked nine people at a local mall Saturday while shouting about “Allah.”
Something about "Allah", eh? I'm starting to notice some similarities between these isolated incidents.
Once upon a time, it was common to go about armed in order to protect your person, family and livestock from wild beasts, both both two-legged and four. We replaced that with a high-trust society and security guarantees from our government. That era seems to be over.

In WWII the Japanese and Germans had to come at us with war planes and ships. If their planes and ships couldn't get through our defense they couldn't hurt us. Arabs could never manufacture or operate sufficient war planes or ships to come at us that way but they don't need them. They get visas so they can fly into our country in civilian jet liners that we operate for them.

[GlobalGuerrillas] Liz Alderman at the NYTimes reported that terrorism is squashing Europe's first glimmer of recovery since the financial crash. EU economic growth has been halved since spring, with La Belle France now at zero.
Although Europe has suffered terrorism before, this time it's different. Instead of big and relatively infrequent terrorist attacks, these new attacks are small, numerous and geographically dispersed. This change is a big deal, because it makes it possible for hard boyz to turn attacks into "a tax" that depresses economic activity by imposing new costs and changing economic behavior. Here's some of the theory from my 2004 article on it:
A terrorism tax is an accumulation of excess costs inflicted on a city's stakeholders by acts of terrorism. These include direct costs inflicted on the city by hard boyz (systems sabotage) and indirect costs due to the security/insurance/policy/etc. changes needed to protect against attacks. A terrorism tax above a certain level will force the city to transition to a lower market equilibrium (aka shrink). So, what is that level? Here's what they concluded:
[Jpost] An IDF officer was moderately to seriously maimed in a Paleostinian stabbing attack in the West Bank settlement of Efrat Sunday morning, in the sixth incident of violence in the last two days.
It marks the first time since the wave of Paleostinian violence against Israelis began last year, that an attack has occurred in Efrat, even though repeated incidents have occurred at the nearby Gush Etzion junction.
Efrat’s security team had been on alert for hours prior to the attack after it saw a person wandering around 400 meters outside of the settlement and notified the IDF.
Eventually the Paleostinian terrorist managed to infiltrate the settlement and hid in the bushes. Around 6 a.m. he jumped out and stabbed the officer in his upper body.
The soldier was transported to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Medical Center in Ein Karem.
Another soldier shot and disabled the terrorist, who had a number of knives on his body. The terrorist was also transported to a nearby hospital.
In spite of the attack, the settlement decided to hold school as usual.
On Saturday the IDF decided to beef up its presence in the area of Hebron, in the West Bank, by sending an extra battalion to the area.
On Saturday, a solider was lightly stabbed in the Tel Rumeida area of Hebron, just one day after a soldier had been stabbed and severely injured in that same area the day before. Both Paleostinian assailants were killed.
[Wash Times] The repercussions just keep rolling in: Hillary Clinton’s recent decision to call Donald Trump's fans a "basketful of deplorables" has turned into "nothing short of a crisis" for the Democratic presidential nominee, says veteran pollster John Zogby.
Ah, but it gets worse. "The entire fainting and pneumonia issue is nothing short of a disaster," he continues, noting that the distress and drama of Mrs. Clinton’s health challenges have prompted voters to ask visceral questions about her truthfulness and judgment.
"This has all been badly done. New polls have come out that show Clinton down 5 points in Ohio, down in Florida, New Hampshire, Nevada and Iowa -- and none of these polls reflect more than just one day’s sample. A new CBS Tracking Poll now shows her leading Trump 42 percent to 40 percent. I probably shouldn’t speculate, but I suspect she will lose a few more points," Mr. Zogby continues.
"But the real crisis here is how she gets back on track. She will most likely have a good debate performance on Sept. 26. But then she still has to deal with the 'deplorables' thing because of what it reveals about her and her supporters. And then the release of her emails in October. She is in a tough spot."
YOU MAY BE DEPLORABLE IF....
A round of applause for Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr, who reaches out to those who support Donald Trump, otherwise known as "deplorables" these days. But how do you know if you're a proud deplorable? A partial list of Mr. Carr's suggestions:

...or more like vote buying. They've outspent the opposition by hundreds of millions, to include 'in kind' from the MSM, and yet barely able to keep above the water. The 'narrowing' is suppose to happen a week or two before the election. This is way early in the cycle.

IIRC one handy method is to send teams into every city neighborhood, with absentee ballots, and help every resident vote. How can you possibly object to helping encourage everybody to vote? Everybody in friendly/dependent neighborhoods, that is.

[UniversalFreePress.com] Former Democrat Mayor of Hubbard Ohio, (D) Richard Keenan, is facing multiple charges for raping a 4 year-old girl for over three years. The Democrat mayor from 2010-2011, was put in Trumbull County Jail but released on a $75,000 bond.
(D) Keenan had told his wife, brother, pastor, and sister-in-law about his abhorrent transgressions. Then checked himself into a psychiatric therapy center after suffering from suicidal thoughts.
Keenan also admitted sexual abuse during "group discussions" while he was in the ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital psychiatric ward. Keenan voluntarily admitted himself into a Warren psychiatric facility after his release from Trumbull, he told a social worker "he was feeling suicidal because he had been molesting the child victim for approximately the past two years." It states that during those discussions, Keenan blamed the victim for initiating the acts and called her a "willing participant."

[Bangkok Post] A teacher was wounded slightly when a roadside bomb went off on a road in Pattani province late Friday. The blast in Khok Pho district injured a teacher at Banna Kor Nua School, while he on the road. His pick-up truck was also damaged.
Police believe the blast was the work of regional insurgents.
Troops from the interim Jubbaland administration, backed by KDF are stepping up offensive against Al shabaab-held towns and areas near Kismayo city. The joint forces are reportedly advancing on Tabta, Qoqani, Dhobley and areas located in the outskirts of Afmadow, in an attempt to dislodge Al shabaab.
Local residents said they saw troops with tanks and armored vehicles massing in Qaqani village, where they are planning an all out assault on Al shabaab bases.
Jubbaland state has declared last week an anti-al shabaab offensive in middle and Lowere Jubba regions of southern Somalia, to drive militants out of their remaining pockets.

Absolute first-class hand-wringing from the Guardian. What they and the rest of the progressive whingers miss is that 1) it's bloody difficult and expensive to move all the refugees to the West 2) the refugees don't really want to "assimilate" in the West (indeed, some want to conquer their hosts) and 3) it's better to fix the underlying problem(s) that led the refugees to want to leave their homelands in the first place.
Especially fix the underlying problems. But then the Guardian editors are Europeans, and they've learned to live with problems rather than solve them.

[UNZ.com] Hillary Clinton and her affiliated media, such as The Economist (whose board includes Hillary's great friend Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild), have gone to war against Pepe the Frog.
To be fair, the frog started it. The post then goes on to satire this, which truly deserves ridicule.
Aden, Jeddah-Washington has made a proposal for a 72-hour ceasefire in Yemen with a possibility of extension, during a two-day visit by a U.S. high-ranking official to Muscat.
Asharq Al-Awsat learned from Yemeni and U.S. diplomatic and political sources that U.S. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon paid a visit to Oman on September 8 and 9, and held talks with a delegation of rebels to discuss the points that Secretary of State John Kerry had initiated in Jeddah.
A source at the U.S. Embassy in Yemen told Asharq Al-Awsat that the new points in the U.S. position was the proposal to hold a 72-hour ceasefire.
A spokesperson at the U.S. Department of State told Asharq Al-Awsat: “The proposal is a tool that would provide all Yemeni parties the chance to reach a complete and permanent agreement.”
He said Shannon met with the Houthi team, officials of the allied General People’s Congress (GPC) party and a Omani mediator in Muscat, to discuss how to end a war that has killed over 10,000 people and displaced more than 3 million.
The source did not reveal what was the response of the Yemeni parties regarding the U.S. proposal.
Informed Houthi sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that the insurgency negotiating team in Oman accepted the proposal.
However, the sources said the rebels had placed conditions for reviving U.N. sponsored peace talks.
Houthis said any procedures linked to their pullout from Yemeni cities and handing over their arms should come hand in hand with other measures, such as the discussion of the future of the presidency and the national unity government, the sources said.
Negotiations to end 18 months of fighting in Yemen collapsed last month in Kuwait after Houthis announced the formation of a governing council, ignoring a U.N. warning that such a move would violate Security Council resolutions on how to solve the conflict.
But, since the collapse of the peace talks, the Houthi negotiating team has been stuck in Muscat after Saudi authorities in control of Yemen’s airspace refused to grant them access to Sana’a.
According to the sources, the team is expected to leave Muscat soon.
“Saudi Arabia now allows the delegation to return to Yemen using a U.N. airplane,” the source said.
Fighting in Yemen started in 2004 when President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi was sent into exile, after former president Ali Abdullah Saleh and his Houthi supporters seized the capital city of Sana’a.
The Yemeni governing council said on Friday that its willingness to restart peace talks hinged on the implementation of a full ceasefire, including the lifting of the no-fly zone and siege imposed by the Saudi-led coalition.
This month, Ould Cheikh Ahmed kicked of a regional tour with a hope to hold a new round of talks between the country’s warring parties.
In a separate development, Deputy Chief Major General Nasser Abdu Rabbu Abdullah Nasser al-Taheri revealed to Asharq Al-Awsat that Yemen forces had seized at numerous border posts, several shipments of weapons loaded with medium-range and light arms coming from Iran destined for Houthis.

Why would Kerry want a cease fire?
It must be that the Houthis and Qaeda types are losing; an unacceptable outcome for Kerry and Obama.
Are the differences between the Saudi supported regime, and the other two sides sufficiently small that they are willing to live at peace with one another with the present areas of control by each?
[AmericanLookout] As we've seen in the UK, Europe and parts of Scandinavia, one of the problems with large Muslim immigrant populations is that precisely that they don't assimilate.
Some of these countries even have so-called no-go zones where police and firefighters won't go.
Breitbart reports:
London’s Islamist-Linked Mayor Tells U.S. Audience: 'Immigrants Shouldn't Assimilate'
London's Muslim mayor Sadiq Khan has continued his pro-Hillary Clinton tour of the United States by declaring that immigrants into the West should not be forced to assimilate.
His comments come hot on the heels of the Chicago press exposing his connections to radical Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
Mr. Khan, who was elected to be London’s mayor in May 2016, has also used his trip to claim that Republican candidate Donald Trump is "playing into the hands" of the Islamic State.
His trip runs contrary to the U.S. visit from former UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage, who presented an upbeat message of defeating the political establishment on stage with Donald Trump.
Instead, Mr. Khan insisted: "One of the lessons from around the world is that a laissez-faire or hands-off approach to social integration doesn't work. We need rules, institutions, and support to enable people to integrate into cohesive communities and for the avoidance of doubt, I don't mean assimilation, I mean integration, and there's a difference".
He added: "People shouldn't have to drop their cultures and traditions when they arrive in our cities and countries".
For the record, no one has said that immigrants should drop their culture or forget where they're from. If however, you want to live in America, you need to embrace at least part of American culture.
Correct. We're all a little Irish on Saint Patrick's Day. We're all a little Mexican on Cinco de Mayo. But we also all, everyone of us, shiver a touch recalling the troops at Valley Forge, and we all love baseball, hot dogs and apple pie.
In the great immigration of the late 19th / early 20th century we took in tens of millions of people who assimilated just fine. One part of the story not often told was that each steam ship that brought the immigrants to Ellis Island, on the return trip always had a few people aboard who had tried America and couldn't assimilate. They went back to the old country. There's your real lesson: if you can't or won't become American, you can leave, and god bless.

One of the most economically successful immigration groups has been Asians. For which success they have been labeled by the Left as the "New Whites" cause they chose integration over power*. It's just not here, but back 'home' as the societies adopted 'western' behaviors, the Japanese, South Koreans, Taiwanese, Singapore, and now mainland China have become economically successful. Simply transplanting yourself but keeping to the same culture only insures the oppressions and failures that you left to escape you only bring with you.
* so successful they're actively discriminated against - see the University of California system.

London’s Muslim mayor Sadiq Khan has continued his pro-Hillary Clinton tour of the United States by declaring that immigrants into the West should not be forced to assimilate.
I'm pretty sure some Islamic haven can be found for Khan and his ilk like Syria or northern Iraq to practice their non-assimilation. Be sure to get the GPS coordinates and lock them into a drone for wherever it is that they get dropped off.
[TheNation] LAHORE - Four members of the self-styled Islamic State group have been arrested during a successful operation in Lahore’s Iqbal Town, a counter official told The Nation yesterday.
The security and law enforcement agencies jointly conducted the raid on Ya-Rasool-Ullah Park located near Moon Market in Iqbal Town on a tip off, he said. The official confirmed the arrests but did not mention further details because of security reasons. It was not clear yet how the suspects were identified as affiliated with the Islamic State group.
A spokesperson for the Punjab’s counter terrorism department said the militants were plotting large-scale terror attacks to target government installations and senior officials in Lahore. “A big terrorism plan of DAESH (has been) foiled. The terrorists had planned to kill officials on a large scale,” the spokesperson said while referring to the Middle-East based Islamic State group. The counter terror operatives also seized 1600 gram explosives, 8 safety fuse, and four non-electric detonators from their possession.
The terror suspects were named by the CTD as Syed Abdul Alam, Muhammad Hafeez-ur-Rehman, Nisar Ahmed, and Tassawar Amin. They were shifted to an unknown facility for further interrogation. According to officials, the raid was conducted near Lahore’s leading Moon Market, where more than 60 people mostly women and children had been killed in twin suicide blasts in December 2009.
Perhaps, it was for the first time that the Punjab’s counter terrorism department officially named the terrorists as members of the Deash, which controls large swaths of Iraq and Syria. “A team of Lahore CTD and officers of a sensitive agency jointly got a source information that terrorists belonging to proscribed organization DAESH were planning to attack government installations in Lahore and (they) were about to launch the attack,” the spokesman says.
The move comes just a few weeks after Pakistan Army declared that it had foiled Islamic State’s attempts to establish operations in the country. According to the military spokesman, they had arrested more than 300 militants and their sympathisers including 20 core organisers during the countrywide operations.
In November 2014, Lahore police had launched a manhunt to track down elements behind an “ISIS campaign” after discovering distribution of pamphlets and display of posters on the boundary walls and roadside poles in some parts of the city. Later, the provincial police officer had denied the presence of the terror outfit in the Punjab province stating that there was no such “organized group” operating in the province.
In early August, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, an offshoot of the Pakistani Taliban having links with ISIS, claimed the responsibility for the attack on lawyers and journalists in Quetta. More than 70 people mostly lawyers died in the horrific blast that ripped through the emergency ward of the civil hospital.
The same group was behind the deadliest attack in the country so far this year; the suicide attack in a crowded Lahore park that killed 75 people on Easter Sunday in March. After claiming responsibility for the Gulshan-i-Iqbal park blast, the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar declared the start of a new terror campaign, “Sound of Thunder”. The group posted an Urdu communiqué on its Facebook page early this year claiming that Christians were the prime target. The post also carried a photo of the bomber, identifying him as Salahuddin Khorasani.
Security experts say they believe the Quetta blast was identical to Lahore attack. “The modus operandi was the same. Again, they selected a soft target. They used lethal combination (of explosives) to inflict maximum casualties.”

[AnNahar] Israel's army estimates that thousands of rockets could slam into Israel in any future conflagration, military sources said Friday ahead of a nationwide civil defense drill.
"Total war on several fronts, destruction of essential equipment and infrastructure and heavy rocket bombardment" all form part of the scenario for the exercise, which runs from Sunday until September 21, the army said.
The drill is based on projections of the army's Home Front Command, which estimates 1,500 rockets crashing into the country each day, military sources said in a briefing to Israeli news hounds, local media reported.
The projectiles could be launched simultaneously by Leb's Hizbullah ...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory... across Israel's northern border and to a far lesser extent from Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,-ruled Gazoo in the south.
Hamas is said to have been left seriously weakened after a 2014 Gazoo war against Israel, but it still holds thousands of rockets, according to a military official.
Hizbullah has at least 100,000 and probably more, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity ... for fear of being murdered... Only around one in 100 rockets is likely to hit a building, military sources say, with the rest falling on open ground or being intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system.
They say 95 percent of rockets fired will likely carry a light payload and have a range of less than 40 kilometers (25 miles), but Hizbullah can hit densely-populated central Israel with dozens of rockets each day.
The Home Front Command, tasked with leading and coordinating civil defense, regularly publishes maps showing the maximum time, by location, that Israelis have to take shelter after air raid sirens sound.
In Tel Aviv, Israel's seaside commercial and leisure capital, the time to scramble to safety has been reassessed from 90 seconds at present to 60 in the next conflict.
After a 2006 war with Hizbullah, an official inquiry criticized authorities for lack of preparedness and organization in civil defense procedures. During that conflict, the Lebanese, Iran-backed group rained about 4,000 rockets on Israel and sent a million civilians into shelters, many of them dilapidated and cramped.
The 34 days of fighting took the lives of more than 1,200 on the Lebanese side, mostly civilians, and 160 Israelis, almost all soldiers.
[INDIALIVETODAY] Bengaluru, September 16: National Investigation Agency’s court on Friday sentenced 13 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba ...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI... and Harkat-ul-Jihad-E-Islami to five years imprisonment for plotting to eliminate politicians, police officials and journalists in 2012.

Muralidhar Pai pronounced the verdict and said since they had already spent three-and-a-half years in jail, they would have to serve the remaining one-and-half years term. [THELIBERTARIANREPUBLIC] It seems WikiLeaks criminal mastermind Julian Assange’s dubious rape allegations aren’t going away anytime soon, as his most recent appeal to have his arrest warrant for the alleged incident lifted was denied by Swedish courts.
According to a new report:
The court announced in a statement that Assange "is still detained in absentia", adding that it "shares the assessment of the (lower) district court that Julian Assange is still suspected on probable cause of rape... and that there is a risk that he will evade legal proceedings or a penalty."
The 45-year-old Australian has been holed up in the Ecuadoran embassy in London since June 2012, seeking refuge there after exhausting all his legal options in Britannia against extradition to Sweden.
Assange has refused to travel to Stockholm for questioning over the rape allegation, which he denies, due to concerns Sweden will extradite him to the United States over WikiLeaks’ release of 500,000 secret military files on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
This is the eighth time the European arrest warrant has been tested in a Swedish court. All of the rulings have gone against him.
The fact that Assange has not been proven as a rapist, and has denied the allegations. No, no! Certainly not! consistently over the years, still keeps the debate around his guilt alive and well ‐ even among political activists that otherwise agree with WikiLeaks’s purpose and function itself. Regardless of his guilt or innocence, however, it isn’t a stretch to assume Assange would receive very unfavorable treatment if he returned to a location where he was currently wanted. The very systems that rule the courts in these countries are the monoliths he takes aim at every single day with his lifting of the veil on shady world government dealings that affect citizens negatively.

KARACHI: Rangers recovered weapons during a raid at Golimar and New Karachi areas today.
According to reports, weapons were recovered from Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan unit office 167 and a sector office in New Karachi, a Rangers spokesperson said.
Weapons included an LMG, 12 7 mm rifles, two SMGs, four magazines, 2500 SMG bullets and 150 rounds of 7mm, a Rangers spokesperson said.
The spokesman said, "the recovered weapons were used for target killings and violence in the city."
On September 9, Rangers recovered a huge cache of weapons buried underground in Lyari. One LMG, six SMGs, three Zero-Three rifles, three 7mm rifles, two 44 bore rifles, five 12 bore Pump action and nine 30 bore pistols were recovered.
[REUTERS] Only a handful of leaders have traveled to a meeting of a large Cold War-era bloc in Venezuela this week, in an embarrassment for the crisis-hit socialist government.
Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro has touted the 17th meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement as one that would "be remembered for centuries," as the unpopular leftist seeks to bolster his international legitimacy.
Yet the turnout from the 120-nation Cold War-era bloc has paled compared to past meetings, including the previous summit in Iran in 2012, attended by some 35 heads of state.
Zim-bob-we's Bob Muggsy Mugabe Octogenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case... , Iran's Hassan Rouhani and Paleostine's the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas ... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial... , as well as regional allies from Cuba, Ecuador and Bolivia are among the few heads of states who have landed on the Caribbean island of Margarita.
The half-century old movement formed by nations wanting to avoid aligning with the United States or Soviet Union has dwindled in relevance over the years.
But it appears that heads of states' attendance at the summit in recession-stricken Venezuela is particularly low, possibly even in single digits, although the government did not respond to a request for a list of attendees.
Venezuela's opposition, vying to remove Maduro in a recall referendum, has jumped on low attendance as a sign of his isolation.
"Millions of dollars of Venezuelans' money spent for the government's ego," said opposition leader Henrique Capriles. "Many of the countries didn't come to the show!"
In one glaring absence, co-founder and key member India did not send Prime Minister Narendra Modi, only the second time the country's head of state has missed a summit since its 1961 founding.
Venezuela is undergoing a major economic crisis that has sparked worsening food shortages and triple-digit inflation.

No mention of what was on the menu at the meeting.
[World News] U.S.-led coalition air strikes killed dozens of Syrian soldiers on Saturday, Russia and a monitoring group said, putting a U.S.-Russian brokered ceasefire in jeopardy and prompting an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting.
The United States military said the coalition stopped the attacks against what it had believed to be Islamic State positions in northeast Syria after Russia informed it that Syrian military personnel and vehicles may have been hit.
A U.S. military official said he was "pretty sure" targets mistakenly hit in the strikes were Syrian forces.
Russia called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council after the incident, and diplomats said the 15-member body was due to meet behind closed doors at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Moscow cited the strikes, which allowed Islamic State fighters to briefly overrun a Syrian army position near Deir al-Zor airport, as evidence that the United States was helping the jihadist militants.
"We are reaching a really terrifying conclusion for the whole world: That the White House is defending Islamic State. Now there can be no doubts about that," the RIA Novosti news agency quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as saying.
She said the strikes threatened to undermine the ceasefire in Syria brokered by Russia, which has been aiding Syria's President Bashar al-Assad in the civil war, and the United States, which has backed some rebel groups.
[Fox] The Obama administration expressed its "regret" Saturday for an airstrike that mistakenly killed Syrian forces, a senior administration official told Fox News, as the U.S. awaited a response from the Assad regime.
The U.S. military halted its air raid against the Islamic State terror group in eastern Syria after learning it struck the Syrian military, a U.S. Central Command official confirmed. The CENTCOM official said the U.S. military was "certain" about the outcome of the strike. Officials had been watching these forces "for a few days" thinking they were ISIS.
"The United States has relayed our regret through the Russian Federation for the unintentional loss of life of Syrian forces," the administration official said. It marked the first known direct American strike on President Bashar Assad's forces.
“Warplanes from the international anti-jihadist coalition carried out four air strikes today against Syrian forces surrounded by the Islamic State group in the Deir Ezzor air base,” a Russian army statement said.
“Sixty-two Syrian soldiers were killed and a hundred others were injured in these strikes.”
The Russian military said two F-16 and two A-10 jets flew into Syrian airspace from neighboring Iraq to carry out the strikes.
“Straight after the coalition’s strikes, IS militants launched an offensive,” said the statement, adding that “fierce fighting against the terrorists” ensued nearby.
“If these strikes were due to an error in the target coordinates, that would be a direct consequence of the US’s refusal to coordinate with Russia its fight against the terrorist groups in Syria,” it said.
The IS-affiliated Amaq news outlet said IS had seized the hill where the airstrike took place.

The body count in the Syrian airstrike is grossly overstated, according to Russian military journalist Kirill Romanovskiy. The Syrian Army unit struck was the 17th Division and the losses amounted to five dead, 12 wounded.
The spokesman of the African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) Lt Col Joe Kibet has confirmed a deadly attack on Somali military base in El Wak city of Gedo region Al shabaab on Friday afternoon.
Speaking in a phone interview with Radio Shabelle, Mr Kibet said Al shabaab managed to infiltrate into the Somali base, and seize several battle wagons during Friday’s attack on El Wak town. He added Somali military forces lost several combatants in the battle, in which the local residents said resulted an ambush assault that led the city to fall to Al shabaab fighters.
You know, you get the sense that the Somali National Army isn't exactly an elite fighting force...
The sentries prolly got a better payout.
After seizing full control of the town, the Al shabaab fighters hoisted their flag on the city’s main administrative headquarters and police station as they lectured residents through loud speakers.
On Saturday morning, Somali government troops recaptured the town after Al shabaab militants who seized it withdrew upon the advance of the national army, according to residents.

Yemeni pro-government forces battled Iran-backed Houthi rebels on two fronts on Saturday, including east of Taez where they are struggling to break a siege of the southwestern city, military sources said.
“Five rebels and one of our soldiers were killed in the fighting” near Taez, a local pro-government commander, Fadl Hassan, told AFP.
He said loyalist forces drove rebels and their allies from five hills in the Sharija region on the borders of Taez and Lahj provinces.
“We are trying to break the siege (imposed by rebels) of Taez,” Hassan said, adding that pro-government forces launched the operation from the eastern side of the city.
Forces loyal to the embattled government of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi have struggled since the end of August to break the siege of Taez which the rebels have surrounded for more than a year.
Pro-government forces also clashed with rebels east of the Yemeni capital, with fighting concentrated in the strategic Sarwah region leading to Sanaa, military sources said. Witnesses also reported air strikes targeting rebel positions in Nahm northeast of Sanaa, and in the coastal city of Hodeida to the west.
The coalition intervened in Yemen in March 2015 to help shore up Hadi's government. The conflict has since killed more than 6,600 people, most of them civilians, and displaced at least three million, the United Nations says. Fighting intensified after the collapse in early August of UN-mediated peace talks held in Kuwait.
A militant loyal to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group was killed in an airstrike conducted in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the airstrike was carried out in Wataput district but did not elaborate further regarding the raid. It is yet not clear if the airstrike was carried out by the Afghan Air Force or the US forces based in Afghanistan.
Earlier, at least 8 loyalists of the terror group were killed in a similar airstrike conducted in Shegal district of Kunar province.
The loyalists of ISIS terrorist group were mainly operating in eastern Nangarhar province but recent reports suggest the terror group is attempting to expand foothold in other parts of the country, including Kunar and Nuristan which lies near the Durand Line along the tribal regions of Pakistan.
The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) launched a major operation in Nangarhar to suppress the activities of ISIS loyalists in mid-July this year.
The US forces also provided support to the Afghan forces during the operation conducted in Kot, Achin and parts of the province where ISIS loyalists were conducting insurgency.
The US forces resumed operations against ISIS loyalists after the Obama administration granted them broader role to combat the terror groups in Afghanistan.

While we're not sure at this point this seems like a deliberate attack. Placed into WoT for now.
A dumpster blew up at 8:40 p.m. Saturday night in Chelsea, blowing out the lower windows of a 14-story residence for the blind. At least 26 suffered minor injuries from what may have been an explosive device, police sources told The Post.
The explosion, described by one neighbor as “deafening,” happened outside the Associated Blind Housing facility at 135 W. 23rd Street. The facility provides housing, training and other services for the blind.
According to police radio transmissions, the people inside the facility have been initially told to remain inside as police began their investigation. Two buildings to the east of the facility were being evacuated. No fires have been reported, but multiple emergency vehicles, including ambulances, rushed to the scene.
“It was a quiet night, and then I heard this deafening boom,” said Jakir Aussin, who works at a Dunkin Donuts at 23rd and Sixth Avenue. “My first thought was, ‘Oh god, a bomb,’ so I got down on the floor.”
He added “I looked outside and it’s all broken glass, car alarms going off — I still don’t know what happened.”
Witnesses described hearing a massive noise — “100x louder than thunder,” one tweeted.
The smell of gunfire filled the air. People flooded the street from nearby bars and restaurants.
“Louder than any thunder I’e ever heard in my life,” tweeted Liz Mandel. “Like the sky exploded. Shook the building.”

notice bombs were left in bins, no suicide attackers here
that's because they are saving it up for after November 2
Right now we are in a three-month stretch of "holy months" on the Islamic calendar where jihad is frowned upon
These are the months for planning, testing, regrouping, propagandising -- months 11 and 12 of the year 1437 plus the first month of 1438.
It doesn't mean you can't kill anybody, just that it's not encouraged like it is say in Ramadan.
On November 2 the Islamic calendar ticks over to the 2nd month of the year 1438, that's the month of "Safar"
Safar is the month of retribution
So after November 1 they will be way worse
Islamists are happy to injure and kill people all the time, and Islamic State's Caliphate has given the directive that it is religiously OK to kill random civilians in fact it is an "act of worship" to do so, supported by reference to 3 respected Islamic scholars including Hanbali.
As published in the first edition of their new magazine Rumiyah.
However now is just the time of preparation
The truly devout and pious are using this time to prepare and practice for Safar which begins November 2
You must know your enemy if you hope to defeat it.
See Robert Spencer at Jihad Watch, on YouTube, to learn about Islamism, your enemy.

[RFA] Police in the northern Chinese city of Nanyang have issued a bulletin seeking the arrest of three Uighurs suspected of being members of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement. A directive issued on August 31 by the Nanyang municipal police department tells all police to be on the lookout for Ayjamal Rozi, Abdunur Nurulla and Ayshem Ekrem, all of whom hail from the Sang village of Besh'ériq in Akesu prefecture.
According to the directive, the police department in Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region listed Ayjamal Rozi as a wanted person in 2012, and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security has placed Ayshem Ekrem on its list of top terrorists.
Sources say that Ayjamal Rozi and Abdunur Nurulla are a couple who have had three children together. The family left from Akesu around 2010 after selling their land, and moved to Urumqi to do business, but they were called back to their home village and authorities forced Ayjamal Rozi to abort their fourth child, according to a local woman.
She said, "We heard that her husband disappeared while doing business in Urumqi in 2010, and after that, his wife disappeared in 2011 or 2012. Her husband was a party member in this village, but he sold his land and house and opened a cooking oil and rice store in Urumqi."
"The local police station is always checking with their relatives here to see if they have any information on them, but they just disappeared. We have heard that she was staying in Urumqi, but later we were told that she too disappeared, leaving her two children behind. Right now those children are with their grandparents here in our village. We do not know the whereabouts of the other child," she added.

[Gulf Today] Authorities on Saturday confirmed that the Abu Sayyaf has released a Norwegian businessmen they abducted in late 2015 after paying a $600,000 ransom. Officials said the militants freed Kjartan Sekkingstad late Friday night in a remote village in the town of Indanan, Sulu.
The release and payment of the ransom was negotiated by a senior leader of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). Sekkingstand was one of three foreigners including two Canadian nationals and their Filipina companion who were kidnapped in late 2015. The Canadians, John Ridsdel and John Hall, were later beheaded for their failure to pay the ransom demanded.
The loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group failed to establish the Khurasan province in Afghanistan as the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) suppressed the activities of the terror group in the areas under their control.
Shah Hussain Murtazvi, deputy presidential spokesperson, during a televised debate with 1TV, said the terror group received major blows during the operations of the Afghan forces as they attempted to establish the so-called ‘Khurasan province’ in the country.
He said loyalists of the terror group have failed and have been defeated in the battle ground.
The remarks by Murtazvi came as the top US general in Afghanistan General John Nicholson earlier said the loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group in Afghanistan has direct links with the main terror group in Syria and Iraq.
Gen. Nicholson said the loyalists of the terror group based in Afghanistan have financial, communications and strategic connections with the main IS leadership based in a self-declared caliphate in Iraq and Syria.
The former US General in Afghanistan General John Campbell had also said earlier that the loyalists of the terror group in Afghanistan are attempting to consolidate operations with the main group in Syria and Iraq.
The attempts by the loyalists of the terror group to expand foothold in Afghanistan prompted the US administration to grant permission to the US forces to suppress the activities of the terror group in the country.
The US forces are conducting regular airstrikes against ISIS loyalists mainly in eastern Nangarhar province besides the Afghan forces have launched a major operation to eliminate them from the area.

[RBTH] Russia plans to build a special complex dedicated entirely to preparing special forces that will be able to take decisive action in the event of a terrorist attack. Yulia Plavinskaya, communications director for the future International Training Center for the Special Forces, said the private center will be built in Gudermes, in Chechnya in 2018.
According to regional president Ramzan Kadyrov, construction is being financed by Russian investments. However, he did not say which companies are providing the funds.
It is planned that representatives of all Russian security agencies, and foreign ones, will be able to use the center's services. Kadyrov notes that some foreign countries have already expressed the desire to send fighters for training there, including China, Canada and Kazakhstan.
The 400-hectare complex will be a tactical city for working with all possible terrorist scenarios: liberating hostages in a school, on a bus or plane, in the subway and other public places. The trainees will also prepare for fighting militants in forests and mountainous areas around the base.
The center's airborne program will be expanded to include landing with a wingsuit. It will help the fighter reduce his falling speed to 45 mph and glide at a speed of 155 mph.
Beirut-The Pentagon said Friday that dozens of U.S. Special Operations Forces have been deployed on Syria’s border with Turkey to fight ISIS in support of Turkey’s army and moderate Syrian rebels.
A Pentagon Spokesperson said the U.S. decision was made at Turkey’s request.
However, these U.S. forces were not welcomed by opposition factions allied with Ankara, as they were kicked out of the city of Ar Rai, at the Turkish borders with northern Aleppo.
This new development coincided with sources describing the fourth day of the Syrian ceasefire as being the “worst,” in the presence of several military violations in many Syrian areas.
Head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Rami (SOHR) Abdel Rahman told Asharq Al-Awsat that six civilians were killed during the past two days, including three in the province of Idlib, two in Aleppo and one in al-Qunaitra. He added that at least three opposition fighters were also killed.
Head of the High Negotiations Committee Asaad al-Zoghbi told Ahsarq Al-Awsat: “From the begining, there has never been a ceasefire to later discuss whether it had collapsed.”
Al-Zoghbi said the Syrian opposition “might be trying to use the ceasefire to provide the needed environment for delivering aid to besieged areas.”
Meanwhile, humanitarian convoys were still stuck at the Turkish-Syrian borders waiting for the Syrian regime to allow them to enter the besieged and hungry city of Aleppo, amid U.S.-Russian tension regarding the implementation of the ceasefire.
The aid’s presence outside Aleppo explains why none of the parties, especially the opposition, had yet announced the collapse of the ceasefire.
Fierce battles escalated on Friday between regime forces and opposition armed groups.
The SOHR said more than 21 shells and rockets hit parts of Jobar.
The Observatory added two shells also hit the Bab al-Sharqi neighborhood of Damascus but did not result in any casualties.
A Syrian regime military source told AFP: “The Syrian army is blocking an attack by armed groups that tried to enter the capital’s east via Jobar… leading to intense clashes and rocket fire.”
Meanwhile, while Moscow had asserted that Syrian troops had withdrawn from the Castello Road, from where humanitarian aid was supposed to pass, Russia said on Friday these forces had to return, claiming opposition forces had launched an attack.
Opposition forces and Washington had doubted Syrian troops would withdraw from the Castello Road. The Free Syrian Army had asked for a map detailing the redeployment of regime forces to prove their withdrawal.
On Friday, Russia announced that only Moscow and the Syrian regime were respecting the ceasefire.
“Although the ceasefire agreement is bilateral, only one side is truly implementing it,” defense ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.
However, Moscow said it was still ready to extend the truce set to expire late Friday by 72 hours.

[CSMONITOR] An accused Al Qaeda bombmaker, who went to college in Arizona, told military officials at the U.S. base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, that he believed an unnamed member of the Saudi royal family was part of an effort to recruit him for violent Death Eater acts before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, according to a newly released transcript.
Ghassan Abdallah al-Sharbi said a religious figure in Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... used the term "your highness" during a telephone conversation with a man, just before urging al-Sharbi to return to the U.S. and take part in a plot against the U.S. that would involve learning to fly a plane.
The Sept. 11 commission found there was no evidence to indicate that the Saudi government as an institution or Saudi bigwigs individually had supported the attacks, and the kingdom's government has consistently denied it had any role in the plot.
Al-Sharbi described the conversation in June to the Periodic Review Board, which assesses whether Guantanamo prisoners can be released. The Pentagon on Thursday posted a transcript, with parts blacked out, on the website of the board, which includes representatives from six U.S. agencies and departments.
The statement is convoluted and lacks important details, such as whether the "religious figure" might be close to any Saudi officials. It does not indicate who the Saudi royal might be. The term can be used for thousands of members of the Saudi royal family; al-Sharbi did not say he met the man.
Al-Sharbi also appears to be struggling with illness. He tells the board he had just come from the detainee hospital, is "really exhausted, and nauseous and lethargic," and uses what is described as a "manual breathing device."
His statement adds to a list of suggestive but hardly definitive clues about possible involvement by members of the Saudi establishment in the Sept. 11 attacks, in which 17 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi.
The Saudi Embassy in Washington declined to comment on the al-Sharbi transcript. In the past, the Saudis have pointed to the 9/11 Commission, FBI investigations and other probes that found no Saudi government or royal family involvement in the attacks.
(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – A local source in Nineveh province reported that ISIS distributed what he called “blood CDs” in Mosul streets, indicating that the campaign has the psychological pressure slogan to prevent any potential cooperation between the locals and the security forces.
Sharing details the source said, “ISIS’ propaganda detachments deployed in the main streets of Mosul have begun distributing small posters with CDs containing the terror group’s battles on several fronts, as well as clips of ugly executions, including the beheading of violators.”
Mosul is the first Iraqi city that was brought under control by ISIS in June 2014 and has become its most important strongholds since then.

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – A well placed source in the Ministry of Interior, Iraq, informed Iraqi News on Saturday that hundreds of US troops have arrived at an air base 40 miles south of Mosul to support Iraq’s efforts to liberate that city from ISIS grip.
It is worth mentioning here that the Qayyarah air base was recaptured from ISIS by Iraqi forces in July earlier.
“The American forces operating there will mainly provide logistics, supplies and support for the Iraqi offensive on Mosul. The move brings US personnel closer to the battle and ISIS’ defensive lines,” said the source seeking anonymity.
Interacting with reporter, Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook told reporters Thursday that “the secretary (of defense) has made clear that our forces in Iraq are in harm’s way. Everyone who is serving there is in a dangerous situation.”
But they promised there would be no boots on the ground. Then they promised they would be safely far from the action. Now they've given up pretending.
There's about four months until Mr. Obama leaves office. Four months of legacy-shoring. Did anyone expect anything different?
It may be mentioned here that the air base is also expected to be rebuilt to allow US and coalition aircraft to operate there, since its proximity to Mosul makes it tactically important.

BRUSSELS – Belgian authorities refused to allow the “Kurdistan Culture Week” festival, that was expected to start on 22 September in Brussels, the Kurdish Institute said on Saturday.
Although the institute officially applied for a permission on 13 June, it was notified by the local authorities on 14 September that they were not allowed to hold the “Kurdistan Culture Week”. This despite earlier pledges that the permission would be granted.
The Belgians aren't afraid of offending people who don't send splodydopes against them...
The Kurdish Institute in Brussels said it would file an appeal against the decision.
“An event like the Kurdistan culture week is more important than ever amidst the horrific events taking place in the Kurdish areas,” the institute said. “It brings people together with the aim of peace and tolerance.”
“We are protesting against the decision of the mayor, and we have right to exist and to celebrate our culture!” Derwich Ferho, head of the Kurdish Institute said.
The decision by the local authorities comes after increasing violence and tensions in Turkey between the Turkish security forces and the Kurdish Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), and many purges in Turkey after the failed military coup last July.
33 Kurdish activists are being prosecuted by Belgian courts, the Kurdish Institute in Brussels said, accusing Turkey of influencing the Belgian judicial process.
“They are accused of participating in terrorist activities, but in reality all of them have been engaged in peaceful and democratic activities in Belgium, an EU member state,” the institute said.
According to the Kurdish Institute in Brussels, the charges are “entirely based on evidence produced by the Turkish state, which is also a civil party in the trial”.
Funny how that works. Wonder if the Belgians would arrest a bunch of Turks based on the word of the Kurd Kommies. No, actually, I don't wonder at all...
“At the same time, this state [Turkey] is waging a war against Kurdish people, committing crimes against humanity, and suppressing human rights activists, journalists, lawyers, politicians and in fact anyone who criticizes the AKP [Justice & Development Party] government and its president,” the institute said in a statement.
According to Kurdish activists in Belgium, the trial goes far beyond the Kurdish question. “Conviction of these Kurdish activists would be an abuse of the anti-terrorism law, and will lead to the diminishing of the fundamental rights of everyone living in Europe.”
The Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has criticized European countries, including Belgium, for being “too soft” on activities of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), and has put more pressure on Western countries to prosecute PKK sympathizers.
In the Netherlands, the Dutch police reportedly started registering PKK sympathizers, raising criticism from the Kurdish community that they are being criminalized.

-- The Peshmerga have made it clear, he said, “We will not go into any part of the city where we are not wanted. We will fight to retake Kurdish and Christian zones only. ..." --
The Kurdish position has been made abundantly clear on numerous occasions over the past six months. Thus the final battle for Mosul and for a truncated Iraq will be Sunni vs. Shia.
JEDDAH: Saudi forces have prevented attacks on Jabal Dukhan in Jazan region by terrorists from Houthi-occupied Yemeni territory. Twenty-four attackers were killed and 30 others injured in the attacks.
Most of the attackers were Republican Guard personnel loyal to deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The Saudi-led coalition spokesman, Gen. Ahmed Al-Assiri, confirmed on Friday that each day Saudi soldiers kill Houthis and Saleh’s followers in battles along the borders.
“The attempts of Houthis to infiltrate Saudi border regions haven’t stopped,” said Al-Assiri. He said the Houthis had lost many of their leaders in these incursions.
Al-Assiri’s comments come after footage and images of a parade held by women loyal to the Houthi movement circulated on social media. The footage showed children and women carrying rifles and heavy artillery as they paraded in trucks, declaring support for the terrorists.
In a related development, a senior US diplomat has presented a proposal for a comprehensive cease-fire in Yemen. The proposal was submitted to Houthi representatives at a meeting in Oman, a source close to the Houthis told Reuters on Thursday.
Negotiators will return to Houthi-occupied Sanaa on Friday carrying the plan offered by US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon in talks in Muscat, the source said. Shannon met with the Houthi representatives, officials of the allied General People’s Congress party and an Omani mediator in Muscat on Sept. 8-9.
In Washington, US officials said the plan was an “extension of the efforts Secretary (of State John) Kerry initiated in Jeddah.”
The source did not disclose any details of the proposal. Kerry said in Saudi Arabia on Aug. 25 that he had agreed in talks with Gulf Arab states and the UN on a plan to restart peace talks on Yemen with the aim of forming a unity government.

"These kinds of incidents complicate the effort against IS," said Talal Silo, the front man for U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), one of at least four militias fighting IS.
Several groups ‐ Kurds, tribal Turkmen and Turkish-backed rebels ‐ control parts of northern Syria after IS fighters were driven out of border areas in recent weeks.
And while the varying forces vow to chase IS from areas further south, they have an uneasy détente and sometimes attack one another. There is great mistrust among the competing forces and that schism has grown with the killing of the Turkmen commanders, officials from the various forces say.
Hani al-Mulla, the Turkmen commander of the Seljuk Brigade, was killed last week by unknown assailants. He led fighters primarily based near the IS-held town of al-Bab who have joined with SDF to fight IS. His death came less than a month after another Turkmen commander, Abdulsettar al-Jaddir, was killed on the day he became chairman of a local military council aligned with the pro-Kurdish People's Protection Units, known as YPG.

[Vdare] This year's Oktoberfest is the 183rd Munich beer festival, and Germany's new Muslim diversity requires more security precautions than earlier occasions. Sadly, Munich reports fewer reservations and some locals say they won't go. Hostile Islam and German beer drinkers pose a rather large culture clash.
Who can blame them? The threat of jihad attacks can really take the fun out of big events that are supposed to be celebrations of freedom. France has cancelled a number of public gatherings because of the fear of muslims mass murdering, so the Germans are at least going forward, although with far more police attention.

I didn't know about the Schutzenfest, Rob, but I do now. Link. Our Oktoberfest -- this weekend, in fact -- has moved up to #1 in the U.S., and when the Hofbrauhaus expanded abroad, they came here first, though they went for what I assume is cheaper real estate in northern Kentucky.

For some odd reason: in Chernobil and now Fukushima, we don't see any two headed mutants etc. It's like all this stuff from the 1960 was just movies.

[YAHOO] Israel's Iron Dome rocket defense system on Saturday shot down two stray "projectiles" fired during fighting in Syria's civil war, Israel's military said.
There has been frequent spillover of fighting between the factions in Syria into the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, but this was the first time Iron Dome was activated to intercept the errant fire.
"An additional projectile fired from Syria was intercepted by the Iron Dome aerial defense system. No injuries reported," the military said in a statement, shortly after the system had first activated.
Israel usually retaliates with air strikes against battle stations in Syria.
The military has stationed Iron Dome batteries in areas that have been targeted by cross-border fire, which is most frequently from Paleostinian forces of Evil in the Gazoo Strip. The system usually only fires an interceptor if the enemy rocket is calculated to strike near a populated area.
Israel has largely stayed on the sidelines of Syria's civil war, keeping watch over the Golan frontier and occasionally carrying out air strikes or returning mortar fire if there is a specific threat.
[IsraelTimes] Syrian rights group, Hezbollah say IDF targeted artillery positions in Quneitra; several Syrian troops said maimed; IDF declines comment
A group monitoring the corpse count in the Syrian civil war said Saturday that at least one Syrian Army soldier was killed by rounds fired from Israeli aircraft operating on the Golan Heights.
Sometimes you shoot at the target. Sometimes the target shoots back.
According to the report from the London-based Syrian Observatory of Human Rights, Israeli aircraft attacked artillery positions manned by Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Supressor of the Damascenes... ’s army in response to an incident earlier on Saturday in which two mortar shells were fired across the border into Israel.
At least one soldier was killed in the attack and several others maimed, according to the observatory. The attacks took place in Quneitra, a city that was destroyed and abandoned in the 1973 Yom Kippur War and serves as an outpost of the Syrian military.
According to the Walla news website, the soldier was identified as Muhammad Hassan a-Sid by Syrians using social media, and his picture was posted on social media websites.
A statement accusing Israel of killing the soldier was also published by Hezbollah. The statement said an Israeli drone attacked the target in Khan Arnabe, a Syrian village flanking Quneitra from the east in the center of the Syrian Golan Heights.
Drone, IAF rounds (whatever they are): tomayto, tomahto, right?
The IDF did not comment on the Syrian and Lebanese reports, but has maintained a regular policy of retaliating against the Syrian army for fire on Israeli territory.
On Thursday, Israeli security sources told The Times of Israel that errant projectiles from Syria that have landed on the Israeli side of the Golan Heights over the past two weeks have been fired by Syrian opposition groups as well as by Syrian army forces.

[SeeBS] Former Defense Secretary Bob Gates savaged Donald Trump in a Wall Street Journal op-ed published Saturday, declaring the Republican presidential nominee "unqualified and unfit to be commander-in-chief."
"At least on national security, I believe Mr. Trump is beyond repair," Gates wrote. "He is stubbornly uninformed about the world and how to lead our country and government, and temperamentally unsuited to lead our men and women in uniform."
He offered some gentle criticism of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, urging her to be more candid on how she’d deal with China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran. He also suggested she suffers from "credibility issues" on national security and transparency,
Ya think?!
but he argued she "has time before the election to address forthrightly her trustworthiness, to reassure people about her judgment."

An explosion that went off in a garbage can Saturday morning in a New Jersey beach town likely was timed to disrupt a Marine Corps charity run, authorities said.
Three pipe-bomb-type devices wired together were found near the boardwalk in Seaside Park. No injuries were reported and a four-block area was evacuated for most of the day, authorities said.
An initial examination showed the devices were rudimentary, with some type of timer, and only one of them detonated, two federal law enforcement officials told CNN.
Al Della Fave, a spokesman for the Ocean County prosecutor's office, said he believes the blast was meant to affect the Seaside Semper Five race.
"If it was just a matter of minutes, in terms of difference, there would have been a good number of people running past that explosive device" because of its location along the race route, Della Fave said.
Registration problems at the starting line delayed the start of the race, which meant no one was near the garbage can when the explosion happened, a law enforcement official said.
"We were lucky," the official said.
Just after the explosion, Della Fave said, the area was placed on lockdown, and police deployed bomb detection dogs. He said no additional devices were found after the dogs completed their sweep. Race officials and local authorities canceled the event, race organizers said.

“Security forces rushed to the area and transferred the wounded to a nearby hospital for treatment and the bodies of the deceased to the forensic department and later cordoned off the incident area,” further added the source seeking anonymity.

ALEPPO – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) have shelled Kurdish villages in Syria’s northern Aleppo Governorate with chemical weapons, activists reported on Saturday.
The radical group has reportedly launched a chemical attack on the villages of Um Hosh and Herbel in Afrin District northwest of Aleppo, causing casualties among civilians.
“ISIS terrorists have used internationally forbidden weapons in an attack on the villages of al-Herbel and Um Hosh,” senior Kurdish official Ilham Ahmed said.
The attack, which took place on Friday morning, led to the injury of five civilians and three member of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), who were transferred to the Afrin Hospital. A medical sources in Afrin told ARA News that the injured suffered from suffocation.
“The victims have been clearly exposed to a chemical gas attack,” the source said.
Speaking to ARA News, Rezan Heddo, a member of the Syrian Democratic Council, said: “ISIS and other radical Islamist groups in Aleppo province are in possession of chemical weapons. They have used those weapons in several attacks on populated areas in Aleppo province, especially against the Kurds.”
On Saturday, local activists in Afrin released footages online showing testimonies on the chemical attack.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) liberated the villages of Um Hosh and Herbel from ISIS on August 30, with the aim to capture the strategic town of al-Bab to connect the Kurdish canton administrations.
According to a joint investigation by the United Nations and a chemical weapons watchdog, both the Syrian government and ISIS group have used banned chemical weapons.
Kurdish forces in Iraq and Syria have been exposed to chemical attacks by ISIS. US-led coalition officials have earlier confirmed that ISIS has used mustard gas in attacks on Kurdish forces in Iraq.

The meat cleaver maniac who hacked an off-duty cop is a Palestinian busted two months ago while screaming in Arabic outside a Brooklyn synagogue.
Suspect Akram Joudeh was only in New York for Thursday’s Midtown rampage because he was appealing a deportation notice — with a hearing set for Oct. 14, a high-ranking NYPD source told the Daily News.
Cops found two knives inside Joudeh’s car after answering the July report of an erratic man on Shore Parkway in Brooklyn shout “Allahu Akbar!” — or “God is great” in Arabic.
But the source said investigations by the NYPD and FBI showed Joudeh, 32, was emotionally disturbed and not a terrorist threat.
I keep hearing that excuse. Sure are a lot of "mentally disturbed" folks out there trying to kill cops and innocents.
...not to mention shouting "Allahu Akhbar" as they're doing it. Madness does not exclude the ability to terrorize, though it may interfere with the ability to plan and execute multiple interlinked mass attacks.
Joudeh was selling perfume out of his illegally parked car Thursday near Madison Square Garden when he attacked NYPD Detective Brian O’Donnell on a W. 32nd St. sidewalk, cops said.
The 16-year police veteran left a Manhattan hospital Friday sporting a blue NYPD windbreaker and a raw red gash on his cheek.
O’Donnell was headed to Penn Station to catch a train home after his 8 a.m.-4 p.m. shift when he spotted Joudeh running through rush hour crowds with the meat cleaver in his hand. O’Donnell was sliced after he tackled Joudeh, who had just climbed atop the front grill of a responding NYPD squad car, police said.
Joudeh, a career criminal who was likely living in his nearby parked car, went berserk when two police officers approached the vehicle — and went after the pair with the cleaver, police said. A 45-second video obtained by WNBC-TV showed Joudeh in the minutes before he opened a 6-inch gash on the jaw of O’Donnell less than a block from Penn Station. The deranged driver became enraged after several failed attempts to bash a traffic boot off his car’s wheel.

Comrades! The Party needs your creative juices flowing and frothing, if indeed not actively spewing, to create new or designate existing common objects as symbols of hateful White Supremacy.
It has recently been revealed that a cartoon frog named Pepe, designed some decade ago for an obscure internet cartoon series, is in fact a symbol of the evil White Supremacy Movement. Although the evil White Supremacy Movement was not aware of this fact, it is so because the major networks have proclaimed it to be true.

It appears United Russia got between 45 and 48 percent of the vote, while the Communist party got 16 percent and Zhirinovskiy's national party got 14 percent.
We won't know the actual composition of the Duma until later. Of course, United Russia will have the major plurality, but it doesn't have a majority.
Turnout was 40 percent average nationwide, lower than in 2011. It was less than 20 percent in Moskva and Saint Petersburg.
According to the preliminary results of the elections, on the basis of treatment 9% of the ballots, the federal district "United Russia" received 45.33% of votes, the Liberal Democratic Party - 17.65%, CPRF ??- 16.98% "Fair Russia" - 6,39%.
Among other parties to vote as follows: "Apple" - 1.38%, "Homeland" - 1.45%; "The Communists of Russia" - 2,85%; Russian Party of Pensioners - 2.12%, growth of the Party - 1.08%.
"Green" got 0.81% of votes, Civic Platform - 0.29%; Parnas - 0.69%. Civil Force gained 0.14%, Patriots of Russia - 0.69%.
According to the preliminary results of voting in single-mandate constituencies out of 111 districts where ballots have been processed, at 105 the first place took the "United Russia". In two districts the ruling party won, respectively, second and third place.
Communist Party won in two constituencies. In 54 districts of the Communists gained second place in the 26 - the third.
The Liberal Democratic Party won the first place in five districts, the second - in 26, and the third - in 51.
"Just Russia" won the three counties, finishing second in 18 and third place - in 17 districts.
My commentary:
It would appear that Vladimir Zhirinovskiy's party has drawn even with the communists, who were in 2nd place in the Duma. With these kinds of numbers, however, it means very little. Vladimir Putin's coalition will run the show for another five years, it would appear.

Most disappointingly, IMMHO is the Russian nationalist Rodina also failed to make the cut for a second time in a row.

PESHAWAR: A curfew has been imposed in Mohmand Agency’s Anbar tehsil following a suicide attack in a mosque which left 30 people dead, local political administration officials said on Saturday.
After imposing the curfew, security forces launched a search operation in the area, Assistant Political Agent Naveed Akbar said.
The political administration also announced a compensation of Rs300,000 for families of each of the dead and Rs100,000 for each of the injured.
A suicide bomber targeted the mosque in Mohmand's Pai Khan village during Friday prayers, leaving at least 30 worshipers dead and wounding 30 others. Several children were also among those killed or wounded in the deadly attack.
Pashin Gul, the head of local tribal police, confirmed to the Associated Press that it was a suicide attack.
Jamaatul Ahrar, an offshoot of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the bombing and said the target were members of pro-government tribal lashkars.
Jamaatul Ahrar had also claimed responsibility for the September 2 attack on a court in Mardan, where at least 14 people were killed and 50 others injured.
The group had also said it was behind an attack on lawyers in Quetta, which killed 73 people on August 8, as well as the Lahore Easter bombing that left 75 dead in what was the deadliest attack to hit the country this year.
Poor rescue arrangements
Sawab Khan, a resident of Anbar, who was brought to the Agency Headquarters Hospital (AHH) at Ghalanai in the Mohmand tribal region with injuries, said he was offering prayers along with at least 200 other worshippers when he heard a shout of ‘Allahu Akbar’ followed by an explosion.
“There was blood everywhere [and] the verandah was destroyed,” he recalled.
Sawab Khan said most of the injured were waiting for vehicles to be taken to hospitals because there were no arrangements of transportation in the area.
Soft targets such as courts, schools and mosques are routinely attacked.
The army launched an operation in June 2014 in a bid to wipe out militant bases in the tribal areas and so bring an end to the bloody insurgency that has cost thousands of civilian lives since 2004.
As a result, security in the country has since improved. Scattered attacks still take place, but they are fewer and of a lesser intensity than in previous years.
According to data from the South Asia Terrorism Portal, 457 civilians and 182 members of the security forces were killed in Pakistan from January 1 to September 11, putting 2016 on course for fewer casualties than 2015.
Last year, the country recorded its lowest number of killings since 2007.
