White House–Pentagon Divide Is Bad and Won't Be Getting Better Soon
Those top officers who will not subordinate winning wars to Obama's loony-left ideology are removed. Army General Stanley McChrystal, former top commander in Afghanistan, was fired for publicly disagreeing with Obama's failed strategy. Army Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, was fired for insisting that we acknowledge the obvious connection between Islamic terror and Islam. Four-star Marine Corps General James Mattis, former commander of United States Central Command, was pushed out for being anti-Iran while Obama was pushing his alarming nuclear deal:

An Aug. 10 report by a joint House panel on CentCom intelligence-skewing said Gen. Mattis "was forced to depart abruptly in early 2013."

"The leadership environment within CENTCOM and its Intelligence Directorate deteriorated significantly following the 2013 departure of Marine General James Mattis and his senior intelligence leaders," the report said.

The situation will not improve under President Shrillary:

As a senator in 2007, Mrs. Clinton famously ridiculed the testimony on the Iraq troop surge from Army Gen. David Petraeus.

"You have been made the de facto spokesman for what many of us believe to be a failed policy," Mrs. Clinton said. "Despite what I view as your rather extraordinary efforts in your testimony both yesterday and today, I think that the reports that you provide to us really require a willing suspension of disbelief."

He was concerned about the use of mini-transceivers that fit in the ear and could be used to cue actors or to provide prompting to someone in the POTUS debates. He claims Obama used such a device in debates 2 and 3 with Romney. They look like the following: Miniature ear pieces and blue phone technology. Do you want to vote for the man behind the curtain or the candidate?

USS Montgomery becomes fifth LCS to break down within a year
The U.S. Navy has confirmed that the newest littoral combat ship USS Montgomery which the Navy received in June this year, experienced two unrelated casualties within a 24-hour period while transiting from Mobile, Alabama, to her homeport of San Diego on September 13.

USS Montgomery is the fifth littoral combat ship to experience some sort of break down within a year. USS Freedom, USS Coronado, USS Fort Worth and USS Milwaukee are the littoral combat ships that broke down earlier.

No. It's a "design variant" of the LCS. Which means it's be to outfitted to a more traditional standard, without the F35-like sophistication.

So, no. Not the four current LCSs. Sometimes it helps to read the article.

-War on Police-
National Guard called in to Charlotte riot
I must wonder what the Soros-paid BLM agitators did to get this riot started.
The North Carolina governor declared a state of emergency after a person was critically injured in a shooting as more intense violence and looting broke out Wednesday night during protests against the Charlotte police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott.

Thursday morning, the North Carolina National Guard arrived in Charlotte at the center near Billy Graham Parkway. The National Guard and the State Highway Patrol were deployed to the area on the suggestion of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney.

Wednesday night, Gov. Pat McCrory declared a state of emergency after it was requested by the Charlotte police chief, officials said. McCrory also announced that the N.C. National Guard and N.C. State Highway Patrol would be deployed to Charlotte after a request from police there.

The Charlotte Police Chief on Wednesday night announced that a shooting victim died, but hours later the city said the person was in critical condition on life support. City officials said the shooting was not due to a police officer and instead was a civilian who shot another civilian.

A photo from WSOC-TV showed the shooting victim moments after being shot — still standing, but leaning over, near the Omni Hotel. CBS News reported that EMS had to use an armored vehicle to retrieve the shooting victim.

In other violence, a CNN reporter was tackled while giving a live report on TV. A TV reporter and cameraman for WCNC-TV in Charlotte were taken by ambulance to a hospital after being attacked, the station said.

Around 10:35 p.m., protesters were near Trade and Caldwell streets and were trying to break windows at the Hyatt House hotel when the third round of tear gas was deployed. Many windows were eventually broken and WBTV reported that two Hyatt workers were assaulted by crowds.

Protesters moved downtown from Trade Street to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and tear gas was used for the second time during the evening around 9:45 p.m.

The Hornets’ team store at the downtown arena was looted after several windows were broken, according to photos and info from WCNC-TV.
Because that's what peaceful "protesters" do -- riot and loot stuff.
EMS officials said they had taken eight patients — seven law-enforcement officers and one civilian — to area hospitals during second night of protests.

Protesters rushed police in riot gear at a downtown Charlotte hotel and around 8:30 p.m., officers fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Officers on bicycles surrounded a pool of blood on the ground and a few people threw bottles and clods of dirt at police.

Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts said a team from Department of Justice will be on the ground in Charlotte Thursday.
What good are they going to do?

Africa Subsaharan
South Africa doubles number of contracted Cuban doctors
CUBA STANDARD --In another success in its efforts to diversify for-pay medical service exports, Cuba is nearly doubling its medical program in South Africa.

The number of Cuban doctors working in the African country under a bilateral program will grow from 119 to 213 within the next three months, Alex Carreras Pons, head of the cooperation delegation of Cuba's Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) in South Africa, told Prensa Latina.

A Brazilian plan to contract thousands of Cuban doctors in underserved areas of the South American country is still alive. The by far biggest share of Cuba's income for medical service exports comes from Venezuela; under a bilateral oil-for-services agreement, more than 11,000 Cuban doctors are serving in Venezuela.

In a rare mention of the amounts Cuba receives for medical services abroad, the official news agency quoted Carreras Pons as saying that Cuba collected $3 million for the export of medical services and pharmaceutical products from South Africa in 2012. The article didn’t say how much Cuba charges South Africa for medical services.

The South African health ministry is struggling to find enough doctors to work in the expanding public health system. Half of South Africa’s medical graduates emigrate to countries like Canada or join the private sector.
If they would simply adopt Obamacare, 'private sector' medical practices could be quickly extinguished.
Based on a bilateral healthcare cooperation agreement signed in 1995, the first Cuban doctors began arriving in South Africa in 1996, to fill a skills shortage in state hospitals and in rural and under-served areas.

Cuba also increased the number of scholarships for South African medical students in Cuba from 60 to 80. However, most of the South African medical students in Cuba pay their own way or get scholarships from the South African government. Cuba received $10 million for the medical studies of South Africans on the island in 2012, Carreras Pons said.

Lord Christopher Monckton of Brenchley: Breaking news: Major climate science error exposed!
h/t Gates of Vienna. I know we don't post from "InfoWars" but this is just too important
At the recent high-level climate change conference in London, a fundamental error in climate science was revealed for the first time.

...the error, first introduced a generation ago when climate scientists borrowed feedback math from electronic network analysis without really understanding it, is the reason for their exaggerated predictions of how much global warming Man may cause.
I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! Mathematical modeling is an art form and there are fewer competent practitioners than there are maestro level concert pianists.

#1  I was involved in creating many models in my 30+ year software career and have always suspected this kind of thing.

Given the lying about data that has been documented and the bizarre collection techniques (put the thermometer over an AC in a parking lot, really) there were so many other issues that it never really bothered me since I certainly am not knowledgeable enough to understand it.

Until two things were done I will always remain a skeptic. 1) complete disclosure of ALL data and meta-data; 2) a release of ALL programming (aka models) with full documentation.. Then let anyone/everyone audit the results and discuss the findings.
Posted by: AlanC || 09/22/2016 7:46 Comments || Top||

#2  the error discussed is in the climate modeling, not in the temperature measurement (although the latter has numerous issues also)

Posted by: lord garth || 09/22/2016 8:47 Comments || Top||

#3  Any time you make a mathematical model of something, you are leaving out things that are assumed or hoped to be unimportant. In climate modeling, they sometimes leave out things that are hard to model, like cloud cover, only to find out that they are in fact important. Plus, the climate is not really just one system, but several (sun, atmosphere, oceans, land, clouds ) that interact in complex ways* that are not completely understood, and not well modeled.

*OK, the oceans, etc. don't affect the sun.

Poll: Wealthy Voters Abandon Republican Party for Hillary Clinton
h/t Gates of Vienna
A Bloomberg poll shows that Americans living in households making $100,000 or more have abandoned the Republican party, led by Donald Trump, in favor of Hillary Clinton. Clinton beats Trump by 46 percent to 42 percent, according to the poll. Twelve percent indicated that they were not sure.

Bloomberg reports that the Republican nominee has either won or tied among the group of voters making $100,000 or more, according to the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research. According to exit polls, Mitt Romney had a ten-point lead over Obama among the high-earning group in 2012, but still lost the election.

Is Bill Clinton Trying To Tank Hillary's Campaign?
h/t Instapundit
Last week, Bill Clinton was doing a terrible job correcting the media record on his wife’s bout with pneumonia, telling CBS News that Hillary Clinton fainted both frequently and rarely -- a line so confusing CBS ended up editing it out.
Someone must be blamed for failure. Hopefully the stigma of Slick's indiscretions will not impact Chelsea's future political career. HRC's excellent contributions must continue.
This week, Bill Clinton is on the damage control beat, speaking to reporters about the relationship between the Clinton Family Foundation and the State Department, attempting to refute claims that Foundation donors received special access to Hillary Clinton and her staff.

And he’s doing a bang-up job. Such a good job, you’d almost think he was working for Republicans.
Why not? After all, who knows better than Bill just how crazy Hillary is?

Trump Derangement Syndrome is crippling the left
h/t Instapundit
People are losing it over Donald Trump. The people I’m talking about are mostly liberals and Democrats who are watching with horror as the election they happily thought Hillary Clinton had put away in August has become a squeaker in September. Their attitude is that any word uttered about the election that doesn’t serve as an open denunciation of Trump is an implicit endorsement of Trump.

Let someone mention the bad behavior of the Clinton Foundation and the response is likely to be a shriek of outrage that you didn’t say something worse about the Trump Foundation. Say that Hillary is a liar, which she is, and immediately you are told Trump is a WORSE LIAR!!!!

I’m enjoying this meltdown. I’m sorry if that’s mean. I can’t help myself. For months last year when Republicans and conservatives were raising alarm bells about his rise, the general response from Democrats and liberals was a certain measure of unholy glee at what they perceived to be the collapse and self-destruction of the GOP.
IMO, both wings of the Beltway party are deplorable

I Was RFK's Speechwriter. Now I'm Voting for Trump. Here's Why.
h/t Instapundit
I was a Democrat all my life. I came to Washington to serve President John Kennedy and Attorney General Robert Kennedy. When the president was murdered and his brother struck off on his own, I joined his Senate campaign and staff as his legislative assistant and speechwriter, until his presidential campaign ended with his own assassination. I ran on a (losing) Democratic ticket in the New York state elections of 1970. When I was working to enact my own program of police reform in the 1980s and 1990s, then Governor Bill Clinton was chairman of my National Committee for the Police Corps.

This year, I will vote to elect Donald Trump as president of the United States.

So profound a change, and a decent respect for old friendships, requires me to deliver a public accounting for this decision.

They dismissed any connection between Muslim refugees and terror. "Militant violence is vanishingly rare," they wrote. Such a denial of plain facts is rightly called "Orwellian."

If militant violence is vanishing, then it must have once been more common, and is now almost gone. But the opposite is true. In just the last year, a Muslim couple attacked a Southern California community center, killing and wounding dozens of people; a jihadi stalked and massacred 49 people at a Florida gay nightclub; a Somali immigrant on his way to buy an iPhone stabbed nine people in a Minnesota shopping mall while making references to Allah and asking potential victims if they were Muslim; and an Afghan native planted a number of bombs in the New York City area, apparently with the intention of murdering as many people as possible.

One could make an argument that such attacks don't happen often, or that people are more likely to be eaten by sharks than attacked by Muslim immigrants, but it’s ridiculous to insist that radical Islamist violence is on a downswing. True, jihadis have failed to pull off another massive, coordinated operation on the scale of the 9/11 attacks--but not for lack of trying. De Blasio seems to be saying that, because the NYPD and the FBI have foiled between 15 and 20 plots directed at New York City by Islamist terrorists, we must acknowledge that militant violence is no longer a threat. The mayor wants to give credit to attempted murderers, as though they renounced violence instead of being prevented from committing it.

Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo will have to face her own critics at home for cosigning the claim that militant violence has virtually vanished from the streets of France. Surely there are victims of the Bastille Day truck attack in Nice--the lucky ones who weren’t killed or severely maimed--whose bones are still wrapped in casts or pinned together, who might raise an eyebrow at the idea that what happened to them was a vaporous, practically non-existent event. If not, she might hear a contrary opinion from the families of the 90 victims of the November 2015 Bataclan concert hall attacks, or the survivors of the Charlie Hebdo massacre.

To compound the Orwellian nature of this joint, denialist editorial by the mayors of New York, London, and Paris, the "vanishingly rare" line was excised from the online version of the New York Times. At some point between the overnight print run and midafternoon the following day, someone decided that the phrase was off-message and appended an editor’s note to the piece: "An earlier version of this article included a phrase about the incidence of terrorism perpetuated by militant immigrants. Because of a miscommunication, the phrase, which was added by an editor, was published without final approval of the authors."

Times readers can come to their own conclusions about the plausibility of that official explanation. If you have a hard-copy of the paper at home, clip the piece out and save it. One day--perhaps soon--we will be attacked again. It may serve as a valuable reminder of how fatuously blind our leaders were in the face of a real and dangerous threat.

Home Front: WoT
The recent NYC bombing and Ray Kelly's Vindication
[CJ] Former NYPD commissioner Ray Kelly, and the cops who made up his superlative anti-terror unit, can stand a little taller in the wake of the weekend bombings in New York City and New Jersey. While much remains to be learned about the incidents, this much is clear: Kelly's view of Islamist terrorism as a multi-state threat, and thus a legitimate subject for sophisticated law-enforcement attention, has been vindicated.

Not that Kelly and his crew really need vindication--at least in the eyes of people who take the Islamist threat to America seriously. Unhappily, that group doesn't include New York City mayor Bill de Blasio, who did his level best to hobble the NYPD's anti-terror effort by disbanding a key component of it upon taking office. Also absent is the Associated Press, which won a Pulitzer Prize in 2012 for exposing Kelly & Co.'s anti-terror tactics--paying particular attention to the commissioner's conviction that New Jersey is a fertile breeding ground for wannabe jihadists.

Exhibit A in that respect, of course, remains the 1993 terror bombing of the World Trade Center. Six people were killed and more than 1,000 injured in a Jersey-based scheme masterminded by Omar Abdel-Rahman, the so-called Blind Sheikh. Several of the 16 terror plots derailed wholly or in part by Kelly's gumshoes also had Jersey components. Now comes Ahmad Khan Rahami of Elizabeth, New Jersey. The naturalized American citizen born in Afghanistan was arrested Monday and charged with leaving homemade bombs like Easter eggs all over the Garden State and Manhattan.

Given what’s known, there's little reason to assume that the Kelly surveillance operation would have identified and nabbed Rahami before the fact. And, it will be all well and good if it turns out that the de Blasio NYPD is working hand-in-glove with the FBI these days. But such cooperation wasn't always routine, which was the root of Kelly's concern post 9/11. In part, the enmity was rooted in the traditional tensions between the feds and local police agencies. At the same time, it wasn't unreasonable to question the FBI--an agency that had failed to anticipate 9/11, badly fumbled its probe of the 2001 anthrax attacks, and truly embarrassed itself with its inept response to the 1996 Olympic bombings in Atlanta.

Skipping down to the closing para:

Fast-forward to the weekend. The speed with which Rahami found himself in handcuffs suggests that not all of the NYPD’s teeth were pulled. On the other hand, the suspect doesn’t appear to have presented much of a challenge to law enforcement. Leaving a fingerprint on a cell phone and clumsily falling victim to surveillance video—not to mention falling asleep amid a manhunt in the doorway of a Linden, New Jersey bar—suggests a very short career in terrorism. Still, the entire episode underscores yet again the pressing need for sophisticated preemptive-intelligence collection. That was Kelly’s goal. He was more than a little good at it, and New York and New Jersey were safer because of it.

Major mistake here that speaks to the denial syndrome that infects so much of the bureaucracy and media.

New Jersey is NOT a breeding ground but a staging area. The breeding grounds are in the mosques and minarets of the Middle East which control the RoP.

Trump opposes plan for US to cede internet oversight
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump opposes a long-planned transition of oversight of the internet's technical management from the US government to a global community of stakeholders, his campaign said in a statement on Wednesday.

Congress should block the handover, scheduled to occur on Oct. 1, "or internet freedom will be lost for good, since there will be no way to make it great again once it is lost," Stephen Miller, national policy director for the Trump campaign, said in a statement.

Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, a former presidential primary foe of Trump's who has refused to endorse the real estate developer, has led a movement in congress to block the transition, arguing it could cede control of the internet itself to authoritarian regimes like Russia and China and threaten online freedom.

Monica Crowley: How Trump can knock out Hillary in the first debate
BLUF: [Wash Times] First, he should emphasize his pragmatic vision for turning America around: moving to pro-growth economics, restoring law and order, rebuilding the military and a strong national defense, reigniting America’s influence and prestige internationally, and defeating the corrupt, rigged system (as embodied by Mrs. Clinton).

As a successful presidential candidate, he must offer voters a positive, compelling reason to vote for him, rather than just against his opponent. That’s why it’s critical for Mr. Trump to focus on his restorative agenda for the country.

Second, as a compliment to his optimistic vision, he must smash Mrs. Clinton, both as a failed "leader" pushing failed policies and a destructive leftist ideology and as a deeply corrupt individual who cannot -- must not -- be trusted with the presidency.

She will try to swarm him with policy details to try to demonstrate that he’s unprepared for the highest office in the land. She’ll try to sit above the fray, winking that she’s "been there, done that." Well, yes. But the question is not whether she was in the game. It’s how she played it -- and what results she produced. For her, the result was evermore power and a net worth of over $125 million. For the country, the result is that we are less wealthy, less prosperous, less safe, less secure, less powerful.

Mr. Trump doesn’t have to show an encyclopedic knowledge of every policy nuance. He simply has to point to the wreckage of the Obama economy and foreign policy and say: "We tried it your way."

Mic drop.

Third, he should "gaslight" her (hat tip to Alfred Hitchcock) by remaining totally cool and unflappable while calmly pushing on her vulnerabilities, from her disgraceful lack of integrity to her hypocrisy concerning women to standing by silently if she’s seized by one of her interminable coughing attacks.

This must be done with the greatest care, taking the Reagan approach of regarding her more in sorrow than in anger: "There you go again." And he should call her Mrs. Clinton in order to link her to the deeply flawed boy who brought her to the dance.

For all of the talk about Mr. Trump’s alleged "thin skin," she is extraordinarily prickly. She has never faced a tough election fight or been questioned aggressively or criticized to her face. If Mr. Trump can get under her thin skin, he could provoke a caustic response that will reveal the cosseted elitist behind the frozen smile. Witness candidate Barack Obama’s calmly delivered 2008 crack, "You’re likeable enough, Hillary." The steam came out of her ears for days.

Finally, Mr. Trump must be a happy warrior. Most voters want to believe that he’s the guy not just to fix the country -- but to restore their optimism with it. They want to know that he will fight the war for America’s future not as a burden but as a joyful privilege. If he can exuberantly convey that America can be saved -- and that she is worth saving -- he will not just win the debate but perhaps the election.

Into the ring they go. And in this ultimate reality show, we’ll all be watching what happens live.

Europe
VDH: War clouds are gathering
[Wash Times] This summer, President Obama was often golfing. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were promising to let the world be. The end of summer seemed sleepy, the world relatively calm.

The summer of 1914 in Europe also seemed quiet. But on July 28, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip with help from his accomplices, fellow Serbian separatists. That isolated act sparked World War I.

In the summer of 1939, most observers thought Adolf Hitler was finally through with his serial bullying. Appeasement supposedly had satiated his once enormous territorial appetites. But on Sept. 1, Nazi Germany unexpectedly invaded Poland and touched off World War II, which consumed some 60 million lives.

Wars often seem to come out of nowhere, as unlikely events ignite long-simmering disputes into global conflagrations.
The instigators often are weaker attackers who foolishly assume that more powerful nations wish peace at any cost, and so will not react to opportunistic aggression.

Unfortunately, our late-summer calm of 2016 has masked a lot of festering tensions that are now coming to a head -- largely due to disengagement by a supposedly tired United States.

#1  Human nature is unchanging and remains irrational. Evil is eternal. Unfortunately, appeasement is often seen by thugs not as magnanimity to be reciprocated but as timidity to be exploited.

This is the giant blind spot in the brain of the NPR-listening pseudointellectual class. They don't understand this basic proven truth that VDH can lay out in three simple sentences.

They really think they can buy the world a Coke.

This is what happens when you want a narrative to be true so badly that you ignore reality. This is what happens when you are taught Zinn/Chomsky history instead of real history. This is what happens when a nation has been too wealthy for too long and lots of its citizens never really struggled or had to deal with adversity and their view of human nature is based on living in philosophically insular enclaves like college campuses or tony, chic urban neighborhoods, doing jobs that aren't really productive or necessary but exist due to said affluence.

When the bad times come for those types, and the thugs foreign OR domestic) are standing before them with a gun, they really think that they can say, "No, you don't understand, I was against the Iraq War, and I voted for Obama. and I hate Christians, and I believe in diversity!", and the thugs will say, "Oh, okay, I'll just leave now". There is literally no understanding that the thugs won't even spare the breath to laugh before they blow the squishy leftist's brains all over the wall behind her.

Man shouting 'Allahu Akbar' is shot and injured as he attempted to storm Israeli embassy in Turkey armed with a knife
[DailyMail] A man wielding a knife and shouting 'Allahu Akbar' has been shot and injured by a security guard after trying to storm the Israeli embassy in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
It is believed the attacker, named as 41-year-old Turkish national Osman Nuri Caliskan, launched the stabbing attack at the office in Ankara while shouting 'God is Great'.

But he was caught by security before reaching the entrance to the building and had the 12 inch knife wrapped inside newspaper.

Turkey's NTV television said the attacker tried to enter the well-defended embassy but was 'neutralised' by being shot in the leg after ignoring a police warning to stop.

The Ankara governor's office said the man was mentally unstable and does not appear to have any links to any organization.
So many mentally unstable members of the Master Religion...
The incident comes with foreign missions in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey on a state of high alert following a spate of attacks across the country this year blamed on jihadists and Kurdish murderous Moslems.
The Times of Israel adds:
Turkey's NTV reported that he had shouted "I will change the Middle East!" and "Allahu Akbar" (God is great) when advancing on the embassy building.

Caliskan appears to have expressed anti-Israel sentiments in the past.

The same day that the IDF bombed the Gazoo Strip on January 22, 2014, reportedly killing a leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine’s armed wing, an account believed to belong Caliskan tweeted "Allah damn Israel, America and Europe. Amen."
He must have been a quite high-functioning mentally unstable man if he was able to tweet so succinctly and sensibly two years ago.

Arabia
Drone strike kills two suspected Qaeda members in Yemen
[AlAhram] An apparent US drone strike in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
killed two suspected al-Qaeda members and caused a large kaboom when munitions they were transporting blew up, a security official and witnesses said Wednesday.

Washington is the only government to operate drones over Yemen but only periodically releases statements on its long-running bombing campaign against the country's powerful al-Qaeda branch.

Tuesday evening's strike hit the Wadi Abida district of Marib province, east of the capital Sanaa.

The security official named one of the dead as Abu Yaqin al-Waeli, a local al-Qaeda commander.

Marib is largely in the hands of loyalists of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi and his allies in a Saudi-led coalition.

But al-Qaeda has taken advantage of fighting with the Iranian catspaws who control the capital to expand their presence in the province.

Washington considers al-Qaeda's Yemen-based franchise to be its most dangerous and has kept up its drone war throughout the conflict.

France Charges Two with Suspected Jihadist Links

[AnNahar] Two men allegedly linked to French extremist Rachid Kassim have been charged with "associating with terrorists", Paris prosecutors said Wednesday.

The men, aged 30 and 39, were arrested last Friday in the eastern towns of Dole and Roanne -- the hometown of Kassim, seen as one of the most dangerous French-speaking propagandists for the Islamic State group. They allegedly associated with Kassim before he left for Iraq or Syria in May 2015.

Kassim, 29, is suspected of using the encrypted Telegram app to direct attacks on France from IS-controlled territory in Iraq or Syria.

A source close to the probe said the 30-year-old who was charged is suspected of having been in touch with Kassim recently via Telegram. Investigators are trying to determine whether the older suspect "played a role in the radicalization of Kassim," the source said.

Germany Arrests Syrian Refugee, 16, over IS Links

[AnNahar] A 16-year-old Syrian refugee has been arrested in Germany on suspicion of having ties to the Islamic State jihadist group, officials said Wednesday, describing him as a "serious threat."

The youngster, thought to have been radicalized only recently, was detained in a special forces operation late Tuesday at a shelter for asylum seekers in the western city of Cologne, police and local prosecutors said in a statement.

Information gathered from the teenager's mobile phone indicate he was in touch with a person abroad who had ties to IS and "wanted to recruit the young Syrian for Islamist activities", the statement said.

Germany's state security authorities believe the youngster posed a "serious threat" and have assigned a 35-strong team of investigators to the case.

French mayor: Australian burkini wearer was ‘indecent’

[IsraelTimes] The right-wing mayor of a French Riviera beach town where bathers asked a burkini-wearing Australian to leave defends their complaints — calling her behavior “indecent.”

Sydney native Zeynab Alshelh “could have asked herself whether the people in the area weren’t still reeling from the jihadist attack that killed 86 people” in nearby Nice in July, Lionnel Luca says.

“She could not just innocently come to our beaches with religious garb that is the sign of the fundamentalism that killed us,” he says, calling the 23-year-old’s actions “pretty indecent.”

Alshelh told Australian television the bathers threatened to call the police unless she left the beach at Villeneuve-Loubet, even though a ban on the controversial full-bodied swimsuit had recently been overturned.

Work starts on wall near Calais’ ‘Jungle’ migrant camp

[IsraelTimes] Building work begins on a wall to protect the port in the northern French city of Calais from repeated attempts by migrants to stow away on trucks heading for Britain.

The wall, a kilometer (half a mile) long and four-meters (13 feet) high, will pass within a few hundred meters of the sprawling migrant camp known as the “Jungle”, which charities say now houses more than 10,000 people.

Spanish Muslim student wins fight to study with veil

[AlAhram] A Spanish Muslim student whose ban from a training institute for wearing the headscarf caused controversy said Tuesday she had finally been allowed to study with the hijab after regional authorities weighed in. While the issue has been a subject of debate in Spain, there is currently no law banning any kind of veil in public places -- not even the face-covering burka or niqab like in neighbouring France.

The exclusion of Takwa Rejeb from class generated unease in a country where Muslims represent around four percent of the 46.5-million-strong population.

"I am more than happy because the only thing I wanted was to exercise my right to study," said Rejeb, 23, born in the eastern city of Valencia from Tunisian parents.

"I am not a circus freak, I'm a person like any other, a student," she told AFP.

The anti-discrimination SOS Racisme association brought Rejeb's case to light after she was refused access to lessons at the Benlliure professional training institute in Valencia on September 8. According to lawyer Francisco Solans, the association's regional president, the institute had asked her to apply internal rules that ban any student from coming in "with their head covered", be it a cap, hat or headscarf. Management at the institute refused to comment Tuesday.

Faced with the controversy sparked by her case, the regional government of Valencia forced the institute to allow Rejeb in. In a statement, it said education authorities had "guaranteed the right to education of students and she will be able to go to all lessons with the hijab."

Fire at Greek Migrant Camp, Thousands Flee

[AnNahar] Thousands of migrants on Monday fled one of Greece's main camps on the island of Lesbos after apparently setting fire to the facility, police said.

"Between 3,000 and 4,000 migrants have fled the camp of Moria" because of the fire, a police source told AFP.

He said there was "no doubt" that the fire had been set on purpose by those inside.

"The situation is difficult because of the wind," which was fanning the flames, the officer added.

Brawls are common in the overcrowded island camps, with many desperate to avoid being returned to Turkey or their home countries after spending a small fortune and risking their lives trying to escape poverty and persecution.

Earlier on Monday, tension rose in Moria owing to a rumor that migrants were about to be deported en masse to Turkey, state agency ANA reported. But a strong police presence at the camp had initially calmed tempers, the officer said.

Another two fires broke out in the olive groves near the camp of Moria but were brought under control before the third fire erupted at the camp.

Number of Migrants Crossing Med to Europe in 2016 Passes 300,000

[AnNahar] More than 300,000 migrants have crossed the Mediterranean to Europe so far this year -- far fewer than the 520,000 who arrived during the first nine months of 2015, the UN said Tuesday.

"The number of refugees and migrants reaching European shores this year passed the 300,000 mark today," William Spindler, spokesman for the UN refugee agency, told reporters.

Boko Haram faction claims to kill 40 troops in Nigeria town, army claims victory
[Ynet] Nigeria's army claimed victory Wednesday in "a fierce battle" in a remote desert trading post where Islamic bully boyz said they killed 40 troops from a multinational force.

Army front man Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman said troops recaptured Malam Fatori town on Tuesday and killed several bully boys. But the forces of Evil regrouped at the nearby border with Niger and attacked again Wednesday. "The operation is continuing," Usman said.

ISIS's West Africa Province, one faction of the Boko Haram

bully boy group, claimed it had annihilated "a convoy of the African Coalition Crusader forces" at Malam Fatori, killing more than 40 soldiers, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors bully boy communiques.
It sounds like Abu Musab al-Barnawi's faction is getting busy. He's the one who recently stole Boko Haram from previous leader Abubakar Shekau, promising a kinder, gentler Boko Haram that will attack infidel churches and army targets instead of killing and kidnapping fellow Muslims.

3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

province, also kept the picture on his phone, police said.

A Moslem friend of Chohan's informed police after seeing the Facebook post on September 16 and the teen was arrested after his friend filed the blasphemy case, police official Shahbaz Ahmed said.

"A case of hurting religious sentiments of Moslems and desecrating the religious place has been lodged," Ahmed told AFP.

Muhammad Hussain, the investigating police officer, confirmed the arrest and told AFP Chohan was in a police cell.

Blasphemy is a hugely sensitive issue in conservative Moslem Pakistain, where even unproven allegations can provoke beatings and mob violence. It has extremely strict laws against blasphemy -- including the death penalty for insulting the Prophet Mohammed -- and rights campaigners say they are often used to settle personal disputes in a country where 97 percent of the population is Moslem.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
CV Kuznetsov deploys to the Mediterrainian
[AlArabiya] Russia’s defense minister said on Wednesday that Moscow was dispatching its flagship aircraft carrier to bolster its forces in the eastern Mediterranean off Syria. The Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier would be sent to join Russia’s current naval deployment there, minister Sergei Shoigu said during a televised meeting.

“Currently the Russian naval deployment to the east Mediterranean consists of no less than six battleships and three or four support vessels,” he said.

“In order to bolster the military capabilities of the group we plan to add the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier to the group,” Shoigu said, without specifying a timeframe.

Bombing campaign
Russia has been flying a bombing campaign in Syria for the past year in support of Bashar al-Assad and has deployed a naval contingent to back up its operation.

This is the first time that the Soviet-era Kuznetsov – Russia’s only aircraft carrier that is part of its Northern fleet based in Murmansk -- will join the Russian deployment after undergoing a refurbishment.

Russia has a base in government-controlled Syrian territory from which it has flown most of its bombing raids in the country. It has flown long-range bombing raids from bases in Russia and fired cruise missiles from ships in the Caspian Sea and a submarine in the Mediterranean.

13 more suspects arrested in Balad corruption investigation
[Ynet] The probe into corruption and fraud in Balad campaign finances widened on Sunday with the arrest of 13 additional suspects; 'we say that this is political persecution designed to harm our good image. In the end, it's a storm in a teacup.'
One hopes the Arab countries spread their filthy lucre thickly among the parties in the conventional Keynesian manner.
The corruption case against Balad has expanded with the arrest of 13 additional suspects, including senior party members, on Wednesday morning. The suspects were detained as part of the investigation into fraud in connection with illegally obtained funds used to finance party activities. The 13 suspects were enjugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
by the Fraud Investigations Unit of the Israel National Police.

The Balad suspects allegedly smuggled in millions of dollars in cash in suitcases into Israel from abroad for the Israeli-Arab political party.

About 200 people participated in a demonstration in Nazareth in solidarity with Balad following the arrests. Activists demanded that police stop their pursuit of party members and announced that they will continue to protest against the arrests. Among the participants were Joint Arab List members of the Knesset.

In a statement this morning, Balad officials said, "Again, we say that this is political persecution designed to harm our good image. In the end, it's a storm in a teacup. Arab society doesn't believe the lies of the police. Everyone supports us and stands with us. These arrests will not deter us, but rather strengthen our path. We will continue to be a big part in the public struggle for justice."

CIA Director: “I Voted For The Communist Party Candidate”
[WeaselZippers] At his first polygraph test to enter the CIA, the future director had a secret.

John Brennan on Thursday recalled being asked a standard question for a top security clearance at his early CIA lie detector test: Have you ever worked with or for a group that was dedicated to overthrowing the US?

"I froze," Brennan said during a panel discussion about diversity in the intelligence community at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's annual conference. "This was back in 1980, and I thought back to a previous election where I voted, and I voted for the Communist Party candidate,"

Brennan was responding to a question about barriers to recruiting diverse candidates for the intelligence fields, including whether past records of activism could hurt someone applying for a clearance later in life.

The CIA director said the agency's mission is to protect the values of the Constitution -- which include free speech.
Shocking, right?

US considers reconciliation with Sudan
The Obama administration is considering a reconciliation with Sudan, a country long designated a state sponsor of terror and whose current leader has been indicted on war crimes charges. While significant policy changes toward Sudan are not likely to happen soon, the State Department on Tuesday welcomed Sudan's cooperation in fighting Islamist militants.

The statement, apparently not prompted by any specific development, said Sudan in recent months had taken "important steps" to take on Daesh and other such organizations. It added that the US would work with Sudan on security matters, while pressing it on human rights and democracy as well.

The statement said, "Sudan's continued cooperation will bolster international efforts to combat terrorism in the broader region. Subject to and consistent with U.S. law, we will work cooperatively with the government of Sudan on counterterrorism to enhance the security of both our countries. While countering terrorism is an important objective for the United States, we continue to engage the government of Sudan on protecting human rights, resolving internal conflicts, addressing humanitarian needs, improving regional stability, and advancing political freedoms, accountability and reconciliation."

State Department spokesman John Kirby said the United States still has serious concerns about Sudanese policies, notably with unrest in Darfur, but that normalizing relations is not out of the question. Kirby said the US would begin the process of rescinding the terror-sponsor designation only if Sudan meets certain criteria, which include renouncing terror and not supporting extremist groups for six months.

Suicide attack organizer held with a would-be bomber by Afghan intelligence
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan intelligence operatives foiled a deadly suicide kaboom plot by arresting a suicide attack organizer along with a would-be bomber in southeastern Khost province
... across the border from Miranshah, within commuting distance of Haqqani hangouts such as Datta Khel and probably within sight of Mordor. Khost is populated by six different tribes of Pashtuns, the largest probably being the Khostwal, from which it takes its name...
The National Directorate of Security

(NDS) said the group was looking to target the government officials during Eid-ul-Adha.

No further details were given regarding the exact time of the operation that led to the apprehension of the group but the raid was apparently carried out ahead of Eid holidays.

A statement by NDS said the attack organizer has been identified as Nasratullah son of Abdullah Hangam and the would-be bomber has been identified as Ijaz-ul-Haq son of Gul Parast.

The anti-government armed holy warrior groups including the Taliban bandidos krazed killers have not commented regarding the report so far.

Khost is among the relatively volatile provinces in southeastern Afghanistan where the anti-government armed holy warrior groups including the Taliban group and the notorious Haqqani terrorist network are operating in a number of its districts.

US names Syrian group Jund al-Aqsa to terror list
[IsraelTimes] The United States officially labels the Syrian jihadist rebel group Jund al-Aqsa as a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" organization as talks continued on securing a ceasefire in the war-ravaged country.

The US State Department says the four-year-old group was originally a unit of the al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front, the al-Qaeda arm in Syria, before splitting off to carry out operations independently.

Today, Jund al-Aqsa operates primarily in the Idlib and Hama provinces, but remains "openly allied" with al-Nusra, already designated a terror group two years ago, the State Department says.

It says Jund al-Aqsa was behind two suicide kabooms in Idlib in March 2105 and a February 2014 "massacre" of 40 civilians in Maan in central Hama. The designation, and parallel sanctions by the US Treasury Department, forbid US entities and individuals from any transactions with the group.

Afghanistan
Officials Speak Of Daesh Presence In Zabul, Nangarhar
ISIS is the next sh*t show in Afghanistan
Officials in Zabul and Nangarhar said on Wednesday that Daesh insurgents are still active in parts of the two provinces and that the insurgent group is trying to extend its presence to other areas but has so far failed.

Khak Afghan district in Zabul was reportedly Daesh's first base in the province but local officials said the group has extended its territory to other parts of the province.

"Arghandab, Daichopan, Mizan and Nawbahar districts are witnessing a huge presence of foreign Taliban. Two years ago they raised the Daesh flag but have now pledged their allegiance to al-Qaeda, but they are the same people," said Attaullah Haq Bayan, head of Zabul provincial council.

Meanwhile, officials from Nangarhar said that Daesh safe havens have been hit by air strikes and that soon ground operations will be launched to eliminate their hideouts.

"Daesh will be suppressed in areas where they are active. They cannot move forward. Our air strikes are ongoing to hit their hideouts," said Nangarhar governor Attaullah Khogtani.

The Ministry of Defense meanwhile said they believe that Daesh is no longer a serious threat to Afghanistan's security.

"Daesh is now active in Achin and Kot districts, but their presence is not at the level that was expected," said Habiburrahman Afzal, deputy spokesman for the defense ministry.

Poll: Nearly half of Australians favor ban on Muslim immigration
[Yahoo] A recent poll shows that nearly half of all Australians want to ban Muslim immigration to their country.

Polls conducted by Essential Research found that 49% of Australians supported a ban on Muslim immigration. Among Australians who voted for the country's conservative coalition, the proportion was 60%. The proportion was 40% of the nation's Labor Party voters.

Survey participants cited what they see as the inability of Muslims to integrate into Australian society as their primary reason for voting in favor of a ban, with the threat of terrorism and a perceived lack of shared values as the second and third reasons respectively.

The polls come after the recently elected senator Pauline Hanson gave her first speech to the Australian Senate, during which she said "[Muslims] share a culture and ideology that are incompatible with our own."

"It's too a big a number to say it's an unrepresentative rump that should be shunned from polite society," Essential pollster Peter Lewis said.

Nancy Pelosi's Congressional District Has Taken In Zero Syrian Refugees
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has been a vocal backer of President Obama's (ultimately successful) plan to import a minimum of 10,000 Syrian refugees by the end of the fiscal year, at one point accusing Republicans of "slamming the door on mothers and children." But with just days remaining in the 2016 Fiscal Year, Pelosi's own district has yet to resettle a single Syrian refugee.

After the November 2015 Paris attacks, Republicans introduced a bill that would have mandated stricter scrutiny for refugees coming from Syria. Pelosi spoke out against the bill, accusing Republicans of "slamming the door on mothers and children," arguing instead for stricter gun control measures.

"It is outrageous that we would be slamming the door on mothers and children while we still allow people on the terrorist watch list to walk in the door of a gun store and buy a gun," Pelosi said at the time. (RELATED: Virginia's Syrian Refugees Resettled In Poor Communities Hours Away From Wealthy DC Suburbs)

She went on to say, "As it is a proud American tradition, we can both ensure the security of our country and welcome desperate women and children and seniors facing ISIS's brutality."

It is not yet clear when (or if) Pelosi's district will receive its first Syrian refugee.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Moslem boy ordered to shake hands with female teachers after losing appeal in Swiss school
[RT] A school in a Swiss canton has dismissed the appeal of a 15-year-old Moslem boy who had been ordered to shake hands with his teacher. The case triggered nationwide outrage back in May after the student said that the ritual of handshakes was counter to Islam.
Individual virtue-signaling interpretations of shariah trump local laws and customs.
The school council in Therwil, Basel-Country rejected the complaint filed by his parents aimed at overturning the decision ordering the boy to shake hands with teachers. The school issued a statement on Monday saying it was in teacher’s right to demand a handshake.

The council’s decision was hailed by the head of the city’s education department, Monica Gschwind. The official said the ritual of handshakes is not only a sign of decency but is also "deeply rooted in our society and culture," adding that she was "pleased" with the school’s ruling.

"For me it is clear: the handshake is enforced ‐ no ifs and buts," Gschwind said. She went on to say that everyone regardless of their religion should respect Swiss traditions.

The boy’s parents now have an option to lodge a further appeal with the city’s education authorities, but Gschwind stressed she would lobby the local authorities to comply with the school’s ruling.

Salhani and his older brother made headlines back in May after they said they could not shake hands with a female teacher since Islam does not allow physical contact with a member of the opposite sex, unless they are family. The high school initially tried to reach a compromise and passed a controversial ruling, saying that the students will no longer have to shake hands with female teachers.

However, the decision triggered nationwide criticism, and the school then abolished the ruling. Local authorities later ruled that refusal to follow the Swiss tradition of handshake would trigger fines up to 5,000 francs or other disciplinary measures.

“The public interest with respect to equality between men and women and the integration of foreigners significantly outweighs the freedom of conscience (freedom of religion) of the students,” the department of education, culture and sport in the canton of Basel-Landschaft, northern Switzerland said in May.

#4  I happen to disagree. I doubt there is a Swiss law mandating handshakes, and nulla poena sine lege (no penalty without a law). This also is a very European principle.

A school may require from a pupil to show respect. If the boy chooses another respectful form of greeting, that should do it.

For example (non Muslim) Thais use the wai, and also a nod of the head will suffice.

A handshake can't be enforced. There are many reasons to refrain from it. You may have a cold, the other person may have a cold.

On the other hand:
1) I am glad the Swiss, at least, are standing up to Muslim bullying.
2) I suspect that this kid and his parents are like Ahmed the clock boy, looking for a fight.
3) Since several other European countries have reported multiple instances of Muslim immigrants groping and raping females in public places, I guess that means the immigrants aren't true Muslims.

In High Point, Trump says he’ll only admit immigrants who ‘love our country’
[CHARLOTTEOBSERVER] HIGH POINT Citing three terrorist attacks over the weekend, Donald Trump criticized the nation’s immigration system Tuesday in North Carolina.

Trump spoke to supporters at Mills Athletic Center at High Point University before heading to another rally in Eastern North Carolina’s Kenansville, population 870.

"Since 9/11, hundreds of immigrants colonists and their children have been implicated in terrorist activities in the United States," Trump said in High Point in an oft-repeated accusation that agrees with an analysis by the think tank, New America Foundation.

"My opponent has the most ’open borders’ policy of anyone to ever seek the office of president," the Republican presidential nominee said. "It’s not even close."

Trump repeatedly has claimed that Democratic rival Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as The Heroine of Tuzla and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Abel P. Upshur ...
favors open borders, a claim PolitiFact has ruled false.

Trump said the weekend attacks were a result of the nation’s open immigration system. He said he would institute rigorous screening systems for those trying to become citizens.

"We want to make sure we’re only admitting people into our country who love our country," Trump said.

Saturday’s attacks included a stabbing spree at a Minnesota mall and kabooms in New York and New Jersey.

Blaming Clinton for the rise of ISIS while she was secretary of state, Trump said he would support working with allies to fight Islamic terrorism through military means and cyber and ideological warfare.

The layoffs come after media investigations, led by Breitbart editor Peter Schweizer, whose 2015 book Clinton Cash alleged a pay-to-play pattern in which the Clintons courted donations from foreigners and businesses with matters pending before the State Department.

The Clintons say they are closing down much of the foundation’s work, and severing many -- though not all -- personal ties to the organization, in anticipation of Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as America's Blond Eminence and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Dean Rusk ...
’s victory in the November election.

Critics have suggested that the Clinton Foundation could create new conflicts of interest for a Clinton administration, an argument that the Clintons have grudgingly accepted -- though without explaining why the same arguments would not have applied to her term as Secretary of State.

However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
some of the cuts to the Clinton Foundation are apparently independent of the November election, and simply the result of the broader scandal surrounding the so-called "charity."

Critics accuse the Clinton Foundation of being a tool for the self-enrichment of the Clinton family. Documents filed in 2015 suggest the foundation spent less than 6 percent of its budget on charitable grants in 2014, and "spent far more on overhead expenses like travel ($7.9 million)," the Federalist reports.

Iraqi forces cut ISIS MSR near Sharqat
[ARA News] KIRKUK – Iraqi army forces reported new gains in the campaign against the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) on Wednesday, recapturing a number of areas and cutting off a main ISIS-held supply route in northern Iraq.

Backed by an air cover from the US-led coalition, the Iraqi troops recaptured several villages in the Sharqat District of the Saladin Governorate, after clashes with ISIS militants.

“The Iraqi army, supported by airstrikes from the international coalition, regained control of the villages al-Jasma, Khadaan, Baja and al-Sabkha,” Iraqi army officer Salim al-Jabouri told ARA News.

Also, the Iraqi forces seized control of the Sharqat-Mosul supply route after bombing ISIS positions there with heavy artillery.

“This route was a key supply-line for Daesh terrorists in northern Iraq. It linked the Daesh-held major city of Mosul with the Sharqat District and the Baaj District,” al-Jabouri said, using an Arabic acronym for ISIS.

“Losing this route was a heavy blow to Daesh, as the group cannot support its operations in those two districts with military reinforcements anymore,” the official said.

I was once upon a time a Democrat. Two events changed my mind. The 1st was the ENTIRETY of the party selling out their convictions to defend Bill C. by pretending "Everyone cheats on their wife."

The 2nd was 9-11.

I was done after those 2 events.

Troops rescue Chinese trader from Abu Sayyaf
[Manila Times] Philippine soldiers in Sulu on Wednesday morning rescued a Chinese trader abducted in Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte before she could be handed over to the Abu Sayyaf.

Pentagon denies coalition drone was near Syria aid convoy
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Pentagon on Wednesday strongly denied
No, no! Certainly not!
Russia’s claim that a US-led coalition Predator drone was in the air over an aid convoy in Syria when it was attacked.

"None of our aircraft -- manned or unmanned, US or coalition -- were anywhere in the vicinity of Aleppo when the strike against the humanitarian convoy occurred," Pentagon front man Navy Captain Jeff Davis said.

Trucks carrying food and medical equipment from the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
and other agencies were unloading aid into a warehouse in Orum al-Kubra, a town in Aleppo province, when a deadly attack killed around 20 civilians late Monday.

The Pentagon remarks came after Russia had insinuated that the coalition drone may have been involved in the strike.

Moscow released the aircraft’s purported air speed and altitude as well as its location over Orum al-Kubra shortly before the strike.

US officials have told AFP that two Russian SU-24 warplanes were operating in the area where the aid convoy was struck, and one of them was directly above the convoy when it was hit.

ISIS claims Syrian warbird shoot down
[ARA News] HOMS – The Islamic State (ISIS) militant group on Wednesday announced responsibility for shooting down a Syrian warplane.

A commander in the Syrian army told ARA News that the warplane came under fire and crashed near the eastern Qalamoun district outside of the Syrian capital Damascus.

“Short after taking off from the Dumair airbase in Damascus suburb, the warplane was targeted by terrorists’ fire and crashed over eastern Qalamoun,” the official said.

In the meantime, the Islamic State issued a statement claiming responsibility for downing the warplane, saying its fighters used heavy machine guns to target the plane immediately after taking off near the Jairoud area.

This is not the first time for ISIS to shoot down warplanes in Syria.

On July 9th, two Russian pilots died near the Syrian city of Palmyra when their helicopter was shot down by ISIS fighters.

On July 22nd, ISIS shot down a Syrian army warplane in the central province of Homs. The jihadi Amaq agency released images showing a destroyed Syrian warplane, saying it crashed after ISIS militants hit it with a rocket. Local activists told ARA News that the warplane was hit after entering the airspace of Jib al-Jarrah district in Homs.

India-Pakistan
American lawmakers move act to designate Pakistan ‘State Sponsor of Terrorism’
How exciting! [Khaama (Afghanistan)] Two powerful American politicians have introduced an act in the US House of Representatives to designate Pakistain a State Sponsor of terrorism, it has been reported.

Congressman Ted Poe, who is Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Terrorism, has reportedly said "It is time we stopped paying Pakistain for its betrayal and designate it for what it is: a state sponsor of terrorism."

The act, Paistan State Sponsor of Terrorism Designation’ (HR 6069) has been introduced by Republican Poe along with Congressman Dana Rohrabacher
...Representative for Caliphornia's 48th congressional district, and previously the 46th, 45th and 42nd, serving since 1989. He is a member of the Republican Party and a former speech writer for President Reagan...
of the Democratic Party, who is Ranking member of this influential Congressional Committee on terrorism.

Poe further added "Not only is Pakistain an untrustworthy ally, Islamabad has also aided and abetted enemies of the US for years."

"From harboring the late Osama bin Laden
... who is now sometimes referred to as Mister Bones...
to its cozy relationship with the Haqqani network, there is more than enough evidence to determine whose side Pakistain is on in the War on Terror. And it’s not America’s," he alleged.

According to Poe, the bill will require the Obama Administration to formally answer this question.

The President must issue a report within 90 days of passage detailing whether or not Pakistain has provided support for international terrorism, he said.
It's almost October now. Assuming President Obama vetoes it immediately and the veto is overridden, issuing that report is likely to be the last thing he does in January before his successor is sworn in.
He also added "Thirty days after that, the Secretary of State must issue a follow-up report containing either a determination that Pakistain is a State Sponsor of terrorism or a detailed justification as to why Pakistain does not meet the legal criteria for designation."
That'll be the new Secretary of State. I strongly suspect that if Hillary Clinton wins and lives long enough to be sworn in, she will want her own person in the SoS slot...hopefully not her husband.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran to spare no effort to Syria in anti-terror fight
The Islamic Republic will spare no effort to help Syria in the fight against terrorism, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari says.

"Iran is determined to provide Syria all the possible facilities in its fateful fight against terrorism," Jaberi Ansari said in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Monday.

He added that "strategic and one-of-a-kind" relations between Iran and Syria go beyond the two nations’ interests and are based on common views and understanding of the threats facing all regional nations such as terrorism and extremism.

Also on Monday, Jaberi Ansari met with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, where the Iranian official called for the expansion of cooperation between the foreign miniseries of the two countries.

During the meeting the two sides discussed the political status quo and developments on the ground in Syria and highlighted the need for the establishment of a committee comprising representatives from Iranian and Syrian foreign ministries.

Muallem, for his part, urged regular and periodical meetings between Iran and Syria for the accomplishment of joint strategic objectives.

Abandoning discretion, Iranians proclaim their role in Syrian war

Abandoning a long-standing reticence, Iranians are increasingly candid about their involvement in Syria's war, and informal recruiters are now openly calling for volunteers to defend the Islamic Republic and fellow Shi'ites against Sunni militants.

With public opinion swinging behind the cause, numbers of would-be fighters have soared far beyond what Tehran is prepared to deploy in Syria, according to former fighters who spoke to Reuters, and commanders quoted by Iranian media.

Many Iranians initially opposed involvement in the war, harboring little sympathy for Assad. But now they are warming to the mission, believing that Islamic State is a threat to the existence of their country best fought outside Iran's borders.

While Islamic State still holds large areas of Syria and Iraq, it has so far failed to stage attacks in neighboring Iran like it has in Turkey. Nevertheless, Iranian media have reported the breaking up of cells linked to the jihadist group at home, and the large numbers of people willing to join the battle in Syria suggest Tehran has the stamina to pursue its involvement there for years if it wishes.

Fighters killed in Syria are praised as heroes on state television and given lavish funerals. Iranian wrestler Saeed Abdevali dedicated the bronze medal he won at the Rio Olympics to the families of "defenders of the shrine" who have been killed.

Some volunteers, disappointed at the long waiting list, take a shortcut. They fly directly to Damascus and volunteer at the Sayeda Zeinab shrine, according to postings on Modafeon, a web site dedicated to news and pictures of the "defenders".

Senior officials regularly discuss the role of the Revolutionary Guards and Iranian special forces in Syria in terms of confronting the existential threat that mostly Shi'ite Iran faces from Sunni militant groups such as Islamic State, which is also known as ISIS.

Karim Sadjadpour, an Iran expert at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, said this appealed more to public opinion than support for Assad.

"Fighting Shi'ite-hating bloodthirsty ISIS jihadists is easier to sell to Iranians than wasting billions on a ruthless dictator who gasses his population," he said.

Arrests in Morroco thwart terror attacks
[North Africa Post] Moroccan security forces said Wednesday they had averted and foiled terrorist attacks there by the recent arrest of three extremists affiliated to Daesh. The three captured men were active in the Northern Moroccan cities of Tangier and Mdiq, according to the Ministry of the Interior.

According to investigators, the cell was planning to carry out a series of deadly attacks against the peace and stability of Morocco. The three jihadis were planning to create a Daesh province (wilayat) in Morocco, said Morocco's Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation.

The ringleader of the cell was assigned by a senior Daesh operative to prepare and carry out attacks against strategic sites including security complexes, hotels, tourist attractions and foreigners. Investigators say the cell leader had already acquired chemical products and lab equipment necessary for making explosives.

Iraq
Islamic State launches chemical attack on US-Iraqi military base: officials
Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) radical group on Tuesday fired a shell that may have contained a mustard agent onto a military base in northern Iraq used by US and Iraqi troops, officials said.

No US troops were hurt or have displayed symptoms of exposure to a mustard agent, CNN reported on Wednesday, citing several US officials.

An official source said that the agent had “low purity and was poorly weaponised”.

Another US official called the attack “ineffective”, the network reported.

A US defense official said troops had gone out to look at the shell after it landed on the base, which is being used to prepare an attack to retake Mosul from ISIS, CNN reported.

Two field tests were conducted after the troops saw what they thought was a suspect substance. The first test came back positive but the second test was negative, the network said.

The Pentagon has not issued any statements on the incident yet.

Iraq
Iraqi parliament votes to sack finance minister
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Iraqi parliament has voted on Wednesday to sack Finance Minister Hoshyar Zebari after a grilling session in late Agust, questioning him about graft, Al Arabiya New Channel’s correspondent reported.

In Iraq’s 328-seat parliament, 158 voted in favor of sacking Zebari, who is also deputy prime minister.

Zebari assumed office as foreign minister in October 2014 after spending 11 years as Iraq’s foreign minister.

The powerful Iraqi Kurdish politician sacking comes after the removal of the country’s Defense Minister Khalid al-Obeidi in late August after grilling the latter over corrupt arms deal.

Since assuming office in September 2014, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi pressed for reforms but political squabbling and division obstructed his path to pursue anti-corruption steps.

Europe
Ikea killer brutally beaten in Swedish prison
[THELOCAL.SE] The asylum seeker who stabbed two people to death at a branch of Ikea in Sweden last year has been brutally beaten at the prison where he was serving his life sentence.
"Yå, süre! Ve bane dön't like yew!"
Abraham Ukbagabir, an asylum seeker from Eritrea
...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age...
, was discovered by guards doubled up in pain in the cell where the assault took place on August 29.

Once the door was opened he collapsed into the corridor outside and lay on the floor, "in the fetal position using his hands to protect his face," according to prison documents seen by the Expressen newspaper.
What's the opposite of "Allahu akhbar!" in Swedish, and can we put in an order for more?
Ukbagabir in August last year stabbed a 55-year-old woman and her 27-year-old son to death at the branch of Ikea in Västerås, west of Stockholm, later telling a court that the attacks had been intended to Dire Revenge Sweden, after the country’s migration agency turned down his asylum application.

Ukbagabir used a knife pulled from a kitchen utensils display to carry out the attack, selecting his two victims at random. He stabbed himself in the stomach, but recovered after treatment in hospital.

Swedish prison authorities have considered Ukbagabir at risk of assault by other prisoners from the moment he began serving his life sentence more than a year ago.

From 8 April to 9 June, he was kept in isolation at Kumla Prison, where he has served most of his sentence, following a series of threats.
So for the rest of his life he'll either be in solitary confinement or the prison hospital? Sounds fair.

Daesh holds alleged Russian spy hostage
[Long War Journal] Daesh's Furat Media Establishment has released a short video clip of a man who allegedly works for Russian intelligence. The Russian-speaking man is dressed in black with a badge that appears to read "infidel" on it. He identifies himself as Petrenko Ivgeniy Viktorovich and says he is a captain in the Russian intelligence service based in Moscow, an apparent reference to the Russian Federal Security Service. He does not say how or where he was captured.

The man is made to address Vladimir Putin directly, saying the Russian president took an oath to defend his country's citizens no matter where they are. He says that Putin has "good information" on the caliphate and, therefore, knows how dire his situation really is. He then pleads with Russia's government and people to do whatever it takes to free him from captivity.

The video, which was posted online on September 20, is nearly three minutes long and is subtitled in Arabic. Curiously, the Russian captive does not say what Daesh wants his country to do. In past videos, including those showing the executions of American hostages, Daesh has demanded that its foreign enemies cease their airstrikes or other operations targeting the self-declared caliphate.

Congo-Kinshasa: Opposition headquarters Torched After Deadly Protests
[All Africa] The headquarters of three opposition parties in the Democratic Republic of the Congo were torched by ***cough*** unidentified ***cough Kabila brownshirts cough*** assailants on Tuesday, one day after violent protests, leaving at least two dead inside.

The renewed violence came after a bloody day on Monday during which opposition groups said more than 50 people had died in protests calling for Kabila's resignation.

The targeted buildings included the leading opposition party, the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), as well as the Forces of Union and Solidarity (FONUS) and the Lumumbist Progressive Movement (MLP).

The national secretary of the main opposition group blamed a "commando" unit from the government for torching the opposition headquarters buildings.

"Does a normal state respond with reprisals?" said Felix Tshisekedi from the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS).

At least two burnt bodies could be seen in the fire-ravaged UDPS offices. Two others were burned alive and another injured, AFP journalists said.

Flames tore through all three headquarters, located in the capital Kinshasa, throughout the early morning on Tuesday.

Fighting through tears, a woman described as being aged in her 40s told AFP that her husband was inside the UDPS office when attackers hit.

"I've just put my husband's body in the morgue. He was killed in the clashes."

The arson attacks come a day after the DR Congo government reported at least 17 people were killed in a bloody clash between Congolese police and protesters marching through Kinshasa on Monday, warning the figure could rise.

Opposition groups contradicted the death toll, saying at least 50 people were killed as security forces fired live ammunition on protesters in the worst clash the country has witnessed since a bloody police crackdown in January 2015.

The violent anti-government protests have intensified in the central African country as pressure mounts on President Joseph Kabila to step down from his position when his term ends on December 20.

Earlier this year in May, the Constitutional Court claimed that Kabila, who has ruled the region since 2001, could remain in office in a caretaker capacity until an election is held, triggering a wave of angry protests.

Kabila was catapulted into power as a young soldier by Kinshasa politicians, a day after his father was assasinated.

In 2006, three years after multiple peace deals ended a bloody war that embroiled troops from at least six foreign countries, Kabila won the first free, democratic presidential poll since independence from Belgium in 1960. A large UN peacekeeping force deployed during conflict enabled elections to take place in 2016.

The overarching consensus was that these elections were fair. But when Kabila won a second and final five-year term in 2011, his victory was disputed by domestic and foreign observers.

Opposition parties accuse Kabila of conspiring to extend his mandate by delaying general elections, initially set to take place in November, to next year at the very least. Government supporters deny the claims.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault described the magnitude of the situation in Charlotte, NC Congo as "extremely worrying and very dangerous", adding that European nations will discuss the possibility of imposing sanctions.

Two More Turkish Troops Killed in Syria
[AnNahar] Two more Turkish troops were killed on Tuesday while during operations against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) jihadists in Syria as Ankara pressed an unprecedented military operation there, the Dogan news agency said.

It said the soldiers were maimed in an kaboom south of the Syrian town of Jarabulus while engaged in clean-up operations against IS.

They were taken over the border to hospital in the Turkish southeastern city of Gaziantep but shuffled off the mortal coil.

The latest deaths raised to 10 the number of Turkish soldiers killed since The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
began its operation to secure the Syrian border area on August 24, Dogan said.

Most of them have been killed by IS but one was also killed in an attack blamed on the People's Protection Units (YPG) Kurdish militia which is also targeted in the offensive.

Turkey sees the YPG as a terror group affiliated with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) which is waging a bloody campaign against the Turkish state.

No plan to use Turkish infantry in Syria operations

[Ynet] Turkey has no plans to use Turkish infantry in its military operations in northern Syria targeting Islamic State and Kurdish fighters, Defence Minister Fikri Isik told news hounds on Wednesday.

He said that if any operation was launched to take control of the Islamic State-held town of al-Bab, further south from the current area of operations, this would be done with forces from the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...

Texas says withdrawing from US refugee resettlement program
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Texas gave notice on Wednesday that it was withdrawing from participating in the US Office of Refugee Resettlement’s program, citing security concerns after failing in federal court to halt the inflow of Syrian refugees into the state.

The Texas State Refugee Coordinator sent a letter to the agency, giving 120 days notice of its intention to withdraw, charging the program was riddled with problems that present security risks, Republican Governor Greg Abbott said.

"Despite multiple requests by the State of Texas, the federal government lacks the capability or the will to distinguish the dangerous from the harmless, and Texas will not be an accomplice to such dereliction of duty to the American people," Abbott said in a statement.

Texas, a bellwether state for conservative policies, has seen other Republican-led states follow its lead in challenging the B.O. regime’s refugee resettlement plans in and out of the courts.

Officials from the Office of Refugee Resettlement were not available for comment. US officials have said refugees are carefully vetted before entering.

The US Justice Department has argued in court filings that the federal government sets policies for international immigration and states do not have authority to halt federal plans.

The Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, a leading resettlement agency, expressed disapproval of Texas’ action.

"The decision to pull out of the refugee resettlement program after nearly 40 years of participation is misguided and inconsistent with that state's proud history of welcoming refugees," it said in a statement.

Since Jan. 1, 2011, there have been 1,104 Syrian refugees resettled in Texas, according to the US State Department-affiliated Refugee Processing Center. That is less than the 1,610 people resettled in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, and the 1,515 sent to Michigan.

The B.O. regime said on Aug. 29 it would meet its goal of admitting 10,000 Syrian refugees during the current fiscal year a month ahead of schedule and was working with Congress to increase the target by a few thousand during 2017.

US admission of Syrian refugees has been a hot button issue in the 2016 presidential race.

The civil war in Syria has led to a flood of refugees. The United States has offered refuge to far fewer than many of its allies. Germany has taken in over a million refugees from Syria, North Africa and Asia in the last year, while Canada admitted nearly 30,000 between November last year and May 1.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
EpiPen manufacturer under scrutiny for defrauding Medicaid, suspicious influences
[RT] EpiPen maker Mylan’s CEO’s connection to the National Association of State Boards of Education may be a part of the shady dealings being investigated by US politicians, including allegations that they defrauded West Virginia’s Medicaid department.

Mylan has been highly scrutinized after increasing the price of its medical devices that fight life-threatening allergic reactions by 400 percent this year. The pharmaceutical company is now facing an enforcement action after not cooperating with the West Virginia attorney general’s subpoena issued last month, CNBC reported.

Heather Bresch is the CEO of Mylan and is reportedly very well connected. The daughter of a former West Virginia governor and current US Senator Joe Manchin (D) is facing accusations that she used her mother Gayle’s position on the National Association of State Boards of Education to boost her company’s earnings.

Gayle Manchin must have seemed to be very passionate about allergies when she was at the forefront of a movement to require schools to purchase EpiPens in 2012. Eleven states wrote laws requiring the powerful allergies-reversing medicine, and almost all of the remaining states strongly encouraged schools to keep epinephrine auto-injectors on hand in case of an emergency.

The rapid interest in allergic reactions went all the way to the White House, where in 2013, President Barack Obama
I bowled a 129. It’s like — it was like Special Olympics, or something...
signed the EpiPen Law that gave preferential funding to states that encouraged EpiPens.

Meanwhile,
...back at the saloon, Butch got the bill for the damage caused by the fist fight, the mirror broken in the shootout, and drinks for everyone......
the cost of EpiPens was increasing. In 2007, two EpiPens, the common dosage for a year, cost $100. It is around this time that EpiPen prices began increasing by 30 percent each year, according to Fortune. By the time 2012 rolled around, they were over $200 for a two-pack.
Mylan is running scared, I think. Trailing daughter #1 just went on line and got a manufacturer's coupon that covers the co-pay up to $300 for patients with commercial health insurance.

Iraqi forces ready by ‘early October’ for Mosul assault
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraqi security forces will be ready by next month for an assault on the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
stronghold of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, the top general in the US military said Wednesday.

"We assess today that the Iraqis will have in early October all the forces marshaled, trained, fielded, equipped that are necessary for operations in Mosul," General Joe Dunford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said at a military event in Washington.

"Timing of that operation now is really just a function of a political decision by Prime Minister (Haider al-)Abadi."

Iraqi forces have been moving northwards from Baghdad for almost two years, gradually retaking areas over which ISIS declared its "caliphate" in June 2014.

Kurdish peshmerga forces to the north of Mosul will also join the assault.

The United States is leading an international air campaign that has been pounding ISIS targets across Iraq and Syria.

Though the Pentagon does not plan on directly sending American troops into combat, it has thousands of soldiers in Iraq who are training and arming Iraqi partners.

"We will be in a position to provide whatever support, whatever reinforcement, those forces need in order to be successful," Dunford said.

ISIS seized Mosul, Iraq’s cosmopolitan and religiously mixed second city, in a lightning offensive through the north and west of the country.

Mosul had an estimated population of around two million before ISIS took it over.

Accurate numbers for the population remaining in the city are hard to come by but the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
and other officials have said up to one million civilians may still be living under ISIS rule in the Mosul area.

The Pentagon estimates 3,000 to 4,500 IS fighters are in Mosul.

The Dallas Morning News Is Paying Dearly For Endorsing Hillary Clinton
[DAILYCALLER] The Dallas Morning News is paying a steep price for endorsing Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as America's Blond Eminence and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Hamilton Fish ...
, in the form of canceled subscriptions and loud protests.

Would You Cancel A Newspaper Subscription If Its Editorial Board Endorsed Hillary Clinton?
Yes 97%
No 3%
The endorsement broke a 75-year streak in the paper’s history of endorsing Republicans, and generated a lot of reader pushback in the form of angry comments and vows to unsubscribe from the paper. Although Dallas is relatively liberal, the state hasn’t gone Democrat in a presidential election in 40 years.

"Certainly we’ve paid a price for our presidential recommendation," Dallas Morning News editor Mike Wilson said in an email to Poynter. Wilson acknowledged some of that price came in dropped subscriptions, although he declined to reveal to Poynter exactly how many.

"But then, we write our editorials based on principle, and sometimes principle comes at a cost," Wilson continued in the email. "I’ve had a lot of conversations with readers lately, and I respect their views and their right to disagree with us. The most important thing to us is that they vote, even if it’s not for our favorite candidate, because democracy doesn’t work if people don’t vote."

The editorial acknowledges what the paper calls Clinton’s "warts," but said her Republican opponent Donald Trump is an unacceptable choice for president.

"Trump’s values are hostile to conservatism," the editorial board wrote. "He plays on fear -- exploiting base instincts of xenophobia, racism and misogyny -- to bring out the worst in all of us, rather than the best."

Actually, it was to begin with. Check some of the names of papers back in the early 19C. They were clearly self identified as party organs. It was only when they started getting a paying revenue stream from advertizing which replaced the party subsidizes that they decided to put the mask of 'propriety' to keep the game going.

#13  The way I understand it the 'non-bias' part of journalism was originally specific to free-lance services that had to make things neutral to sell stories to all papers. The papers themselves never felt constrained. Well they still don't but the journalists themselves still play that card as if they've ever been strictly neutral.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Rooshuns hang convoy attack on US
[RT] The Russian Defense Ministry says that a US coalition drone was in the vicinity of a humanitarian convoy when it was attacked outside Aleppo. According to the Russian military, the unmanned aircraft was a Predator drone.

“On the evening of September 19, in that specific region, a drone belonging to the international condition, which had taken off from the Incirlik air base in Turkey, was flying at a height of 3,600 meters and traveling at around 200 kilometers per hour,” said Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov.

“The object was in the area around the town of Urm Al-Kubra, where the convoy was a few minutes before it caught fire,” Konashenkov added. “It left after about 30 minutes.”

The Defense Ministry spokesman said he wanted to point out that, as was the case with the tragedy on September 17 which saw US-led coalition airstrike kill and injure 200 people, the Russians would not be making any unfounded allegations.

“Only the owners know what exactly the drone was doing at this particular area at that exact time,” he added.

Moscow says it has provided all the data it possesses regarding the attack on the convoy, which was carrying aid terrorist-held areas in Aleppo, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a UN Security Council meeting on Wednesday.

“There was another unacceptable provocation on September 19 – the shelling of a humanitarian convoy near Aleppo,” he said. “I am confident that such coincidences require serious analysis and an investigation.”

On September 19, a humanitarian convoy consisting of 31 trucks was attacked while heading to Aleppo. According to the Red Cross, 20 civilians and one aid worker died as a result. Initial reports claimed the convoy had been targeted by an airstrike. Later the UN said all it could confirm was that the convoy was attacked.

On Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry reiterated that neither it nor the Syrian military had launched airstrikes on the convoy.

“Russian and Syrian warplanes did not carry out any airstrikes on a UN humanitarian aid convoy in the southwest of Aleppo,” Konashenkov said in a statement. He added that the military had studied video footage of the convoy, which appeared to rule out that an airstrike took place.

“We have closely studied the video footage from where the incident took place and we did not find any signs of any ammunition having hit the convoy. There are no craters, while the vehicles have their chassis intact and they have not been severely damaged, which would have been the case from an airstrike,” Konashenkov said.

“All of the video footage demonstrates that the convoy caught fire, which strangely happened almost at exactly at the same time as militants started a large-scale offensive on Aleppo.”

The US-led coalition air forces did not carry out any missions over the Aleppo area where the UN aid convoy was hit, Adrian Rankine-Galloway, a Pentagon spokesman, told RIA Novosti.

Africa Subsaharan
Zimbabwe: Mugabe Takes Son Chatunga to New York for UN General Assembly
[All Africa] PRESIDENT Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Octogenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case...
is now in New York for this week's 71st Session of the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
General Assembly.

He is accompanied by cabinet ministers, senior government officials, wife Grace and youngest son Chatunga who could be was seen smiling on arrival at JFK International Airport in New York on Sunday.

Mugabe's children take advantage of his UN-related trips to travel to the West after the veteran Zim-bob-wean leader was hit with sanction over allegations of human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
abuses and electoral fraud.

Although he is banned from travelling to the West, Mugabe can still attend meetings of the UN in these countries.

His wife Grace has previously complained that Chatunga's basketball-playing brother, Robert Junio,r saw his dreams of playing in the US come to grief because of the sanctions.

"We had to sit him down and explain that he cannot join a club playing in the US college league because of the sanctions. It hurt him because there was a lot of interest in him, but now he understands what it means to be the son of President Mugabe," Grace claimed back in 2012.

Mugabe travelled to the United States from Venezuela where he was one of a handful of leaders who attended a summit of the 120-nation Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Speaking after the adoption Monday of the New York Declaration on Refugees and Moslem colonists Migrants, Mugabe blamed western adventurism for the current refugee crisis.

"We have noted that a large portion of refugees that have landed on European shores originated from countries in armed conflict such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria," he said.

"More often than not, member states have been too keen to resort to force without exhausting peaceful means.

"This hegemonic military doctrine and adventurism, fueled by a desire to achieve the narrow national interests of a powerful few, is the root of the proliferation of armed conflicts which have spawned so many refugees today."

-Lurid Crime Tales-
IRS chief Koskinen says he was misled, doesn’t deserve impeachment
It is the job of the top guy to look deeply enough into everything to ensure that he is not misled. If he did not do this, he should be fired for incompetence. Unless he actually was complicit in the cover up, in which case he should be impeached. But either way, clearly he lacks the instincts to properly clean up what he did not previously bestir himself to discover, and needs to be replaced even as the decision of defenestration or imprisonment is made.
[WASHINGTONTIMES] While acknowledging that the IRS
...the Internal Revenue Service; that office of the United States government that collects taxes and persecutes the regime's political enemies...
bungled tea party applications, and that he himself gave wrong information to Congress, agency Commissioner John Koskinen told politicians Wednesday he needs to remain at the IRS in order to clean it up.

At a hearing designed to lay the ground for his possible impeachment, Mr. Koskinen implied he was let down by his subordinates, who allowed hundreds of backup tapes to be destroyed, losing tens of thousands of emails from former senior executive Lois G. Lerner.

It is the loss of those emails, even as they were under a subpoena issued by Congress, that has landed Mr. Koskinen in the hot seat, with conservative Republicans demanding he be ousted from office for his behavior.

Mr. Koskinen in 2014 testified that all of the information was being preserved, but now says that was faulty information and he, too, was misinformed.

"I accept that it is up to you to judge my overall record, but I believe impeachment would be improper," Mr. Koskinen told the House Judiciary Committee.
I emphatically agree! Impeachment is a half-measure that clearly lacks finality and closure.

#10  For a manager to allow himself to be misled by his subordinates, is a sign of lack of management competence.
When that misdirection causes the manager to swear to a false statement, this represents a failure on his part to perform due diligence in verifying the statements of his subordinates.
In ordinary circumstances the subordinates causing the misinformation are summarily fired.
The absence of any such discipline suggests that the manager condones being made a fool of and an actual felon, in this way.
The fact that the lie sworn to supports the political position of the manager, similarly supports the idea that he condones the lies told to him.
The manager can relieve himself of some of the guilt for his behavior at the beginning by swearing that his false statement is offered to the best of his knowledge and outlining the extent of his knowledge and investigation of the matter, rather than swearing it as a fact.
Does all this create an impeachable offence?
I am not sure.
But I believe it appropriate for the manager to be called back to the committee and asked to name those subordinates who misled him.
If he fails to do so, I would consider the behavior impeachable.
Otherwise it would be appropriate for the committee to explore the motivation of those subordinates who allegedly misled him, by questioning them.

Arabia
Soddy soldiers die in missile attack in Najran
[AlManar] The rocketry force of the Yemeni army and popular committees launched Zelzal-3 missile onto Rajla military post in Saudi’s Najran, killing or injuring scores of soldiers, well-informed sources reported.

The sources added that the rocket caused a huge arson, which pushed the rest of the Saudi soldiers to escape.

Yemeni sources also noted that three Saudi vehicles at a military post in Najran were burnt and that the soldiers on board were killed.

Yemen has been since March 26 under brutal aggression by Saudi-led coalition.

Hundreds of thousands have been martyred and injured in the attack, with the vast majority of them are civilians.

Riyadh launched the attack on Yemen in a bid to restore power to fugitive president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi who is a close ally to Saudi Arabia.

However, Yemeni army, backed by the committees has been responding to the aggression by targeting several Saudi border military posts and cleansing several areas across the country, especially the country’s south, from Hadi and al-Qaeda-linked militias.

India-Pakistan
Suspected ISIS militant arrested in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: Security forces on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a member of the Islamic State militant group from Peshawar's Qazi Kaley area.

A spokesperson of the counter-terrorism department claimed that a man, Muhammad Farid, who recently joined the IS, was arrested during a raid in the area. Farid was allegedly involved in plotting large-scale terror attacks and target killings.

The spokesperson alleged Farid was involved in 32 target killings, including those targeting police officials in various parts of Peshawar, and had also killed five women over allegations of prostitution in the city. He added that Farid had disclosed the names of his companions.

The spokesperson alleged that the arrested suspect had been trained in the Taba Toba area of Afghanistan in 2008, and that his brother was also arrested in Afghanistan over his links to IS. Another brother of Farid's was killed in an encounter with security forces, he said.

It may be mentioned here that this is the first time captured 'militants' have been termed IS suspects by the CTD in the province. The development comes less than a month after Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa announced the army had 'foiled Daesh designs in Pakistan'.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Aid workers die in Aleppo airstrike
[Asharq Al-Awsat] Khan Touman, a town southwest of Aleppo in Syria, was hit by an air raid carried out late Tuesday by Syrian or Russian warplanes, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group.

One nurse is critically wounded and at least four medics and nine rebel fighters were killed when the air strike hit the clinic in the Syrian village. The British-based Observatory said the rebels killed were from Jaish al-Fatah.

Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations (UOSSM) confirmed in a statement that the four medics killed are of its own staff. UOSSM said that the four were in two ambulances that had been called to the clinic to take some patients for more specialized treatment.

The clinic was completely levelled before Midnight on Tuesday, and more dead were feared to be buried under the rubble, the group added.

“The building has three floors, including a basement. Because of the intensity of the bombardment, the three storeys collapsed and are completely destroyed,” the groups’ hospitals and trauma director for the area, Ahmed Dbais, said in a statement.

“We don’t yet know exactly how many dead there are.”

According to the World Heath Organization, Syria is the most dangerous country in the world for health professionals with 135 strikes on clinics and hospitals last year.

The head of UOSSM France, Dr. Ziad Alissa, condemned the “unacceptable” attack on the group’s clinic and staff.

“Deliberately targeting humanitarian workers and medical professionals is a clear violation of international humanitarian law,” he said.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Dental student burns to death after arriving late for exam
[RT] The pressure of medical school is world renowned - and one dental student in Pakistain may have succumbed to it in the most violent way.

Abdul Basit, who was in his final year at Hamdard University in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, died early Tuesday morning from burns he suffered after reportedly setting himself on fire because he was unable to sit an exam he failed seven times before.

He was apparently late after his car broke down.

Distraught over this rejection, the university says he doused himself in petrol and lit himself on fire. He died at a nearby hospital with burns over 95 percent of his body.

Obama to UN: U.S. Must 'Accept Constraints' on Sovereignty in Order to Accomplish UN Goals
[TheNewAmerican] A Taste: In what is likely his final address to the United Nations General Assembly,
...one can only hope...
President Barack Obama (shown at UN) offered what he described as the "broad strokes" of a "course correction" necessary to achieve "global integration."

In order to "to carry this progress forward," the president said that he is "convinced that in the long run, giving up some freedom of action ... binding ourselves to international rules over the long term -- enhances our security."

Next, although not mentioning Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump by name, Obama warned of the dangers of pursuing an Americanist agenda. Speaking of the need for "global integration," Obama warned that "aggressive nationalism" and "a crude populism" -- a vision promoted by the "far right" -- fails to embrace "our common humanity."

"Today, a nation ringed by walls would only imprison itself," the president added, in case it wasn’t crystal clear whose proposals he was attacking.
