Congressman Clay Higgins speaks out
[FB] The free world... all of Christendom... is at war with Islamic horror. Not one penny of American treasure should be granted to any nation who harbors these heathen animals. Not a single radicalized Islamic suspect should be granted any measure of quarter. Their intended entry to the American homeland should be summarily denied. Every conceivable measure should be engaged to hunt them down. Hunt them, identity them, and kill them. Kill them all. For the sake of all that is good and righteous. Kill them all.

Terror Networks
Spengler: Winning the hearts and minds
There's a tried and true American approach to suppressing terrorism, and it worked quite well during Gen. Sherman's 1863 Kentucky campaign and Gen. Phil Sheridan's subsequent reduction of the Shenandoah Valley. We don't have to be particularly smart; we merely have to do some disgusting things. Sherman and Sheridan suppressed sniping at Union soldiers by Confederate civilians by burning the towns (just the towns, not the townsfolk) that sheltered them. In other words, they forced collective responsibility upon a hostile population, a doctrine that in peacetime is entirely repugnant, but that in wartime becomes unavoidable. By contrast, the peacetime procedure of turning petty criminals into police snitches has backfired terribly. No doubt we will learn that the perpetrators of tonight's horror at London Bridge were known to police, like the Manchester Arena suicide bomber and most of the perpetrators of large-scale terrorist acts in Europe during the past several years. (Update: "At Least One London Bridge Terrorist Was a 'Known Wolf'") The remedy is time-tested and straightforward. We merely require the will to apply it.

China butthurt with Mattis' "irresponsible remarks" on South China Sea
[Reuters] China has expressed its strong dissatisfaction with what it labeled "irresponsible remarks" on the South China Sea by U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis during a security forum at the weekend.

Mattis accused China of having contempt for other nations' interests and disregarding international law.

He told the annual Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore that the construction and militarization of artificial islands in the South China Sea undermined regional stability.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said China's construction of facilities in the Spratly archipelago in the South China Sea was aimed at improving working conditions for people stationed there, maintaining sovereignty and fulfilling China's international responsibilities.

The sovereign activities undertaken by China had nothing to do with militarization, Hua said in remarks posted on the ministry's website late on Sunday.

Britain
London a reminder that deadly political correctness perpetuates terrorism
[The Hill] A toxic and deadly political correctness has enveloped Western Europe and enabled an unending wave of terrorist attacks. Refusing to utter the words "radical Islamic extremism," opening the door to millions of half-vetted refugees and decrying the concepts of borders and assimilation have resulted in a culture in crisis ‐ a culture without democratic, freedom-loving identity and constantly under murderous attack from cancers within.

Skipping down to the facts:

Blind to reality, they ignore the facts.

The fact that last Ramadan ‐ the Muslim holy month during which ISIS called for "all-out war" on "infidels" ‐ an Islamic terrorist attack occurred once every 84 hours. The fact that far-left Chancellor Angela Merkel admitted mistakes in admitting millions of refugees into her country. And the fact that 65 percent of all people convicted of terrorism or terrorism-related offenses in the U.S. were foreign-born, pointing to a clear, inextricable link between immigration and terrorism.

These are facts, in the face of which fictitious falsehoods are embraced.

To be sure, most immigrants are good and most Muslims are peaceful. But responsible leaders must nevertheless acknowledge the radical Islamic extremists that seek to cross our borders and kill our people.

America and Europe face a choice ‐ a choice between realism and idealism. While the American people chose the former on Nov. 8 in the election of Donald Trump, Europe and the establishment political classes in American society consistently choose the latter.

Angela Merkel chose idealism when she lectured President Trump at the NATO headquarters just over a week ago, saying it "is not isolation and the building of walls that make us successful...." The American courts have chosen idealism in striking down Trump’s revised travel pause from seven countries where vetting proves impossible, despite the action being well within Trump’s Article II powers. And Congress has chosen idealism in its refusal to allocate money for building a border wall along our southern border.

In stark contrast, President Trump has embraced realism full throttle. In addition to being maligned for his executive order on travel and his border wall, he was mocked by the severely out-of-touch chattering class for a slew of spot-on tweets in the aftermath of the London attacks, warning that "[w]e must stop being politically correct and get down to the business of security for our people." And he appropriately chastised London Mayor Sadiq Khan for suggesting there is "no reason to be alarmed." This is the same London mayor who previously suggested that terrorism is just "part and parcel of living in a big city."

Trump’s realistic take was nevertheless shunned and rejected with flashy headlines.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Opponent Ties Democrat Joe Manchin to Growing Mylan Pharmaceutical Scandal
[Free Beacon] Manchin has taken $127k from Mylan, daughter is company's CEO.

Information revealed this week on how Mylan overcharged for its EpiPen opened the door for new attacks from a primary opponent of West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D.), whose daughter is CEO of the pharmaceutical company.

A report released on Wednesday showed Mylan overcharged the government $1.27 billion after the company settled with the Department of Justice for just $465 million last year. Things worsened for Mylan when it was reported that a top executive was paid $98 million that same year.

Manchin's Democratic primary opponent, Paula Jean, turned the latter report into a political attack against the West Virginia senator, who has taken $127,000 in campaign contributions from Mylan and urged his colleagues to be "open-minded and fair" when investigating the scandal.

"I will just leave this here," Jean wrote linking to the CNN report. "You can ask my opponent about it."

#1  Between paying for lawsuits and high executive pay, it is no wonder Mylan charges so much for drugs. When you tack on the amount health care insurers take as a cut, the consumer gets gouged on the retail end. Throw in the amount paid for lobbyists in D.C. and the price goes up even more.
Posted by: JohnQC || 06/05/2017 7:48 Comments || Top||

#2  So, Joe conspired with his daughter in establishing/continuing the price gouging for the EpiPen? Please.

This is just a jab against Sen. Manchin for his moderate stances of recent. Would not be surprised to see him "flip" from Dem if he wins his next election.
Posted by: Vast Right Wing Conspiracy || 06/05/2017 9:32 Comments || Top||

#3  A 2-pack for the Mylan EpiPens was $600. A prefilled Epi syringe can be bought for less than $10. Less $5 per shot if bought in vials. Yeah, there was a little markup. Especially, when a law was signed by Obama to force schools and parents of students with asthma/allergies to buy the EpiPens. I like to know Manchin's role in passing that law.
Posted by: Pearl Spatch3340 || 06/05/2017 16:03 Comments || Top||

#4  Oh, did I mention the EpiPens expire after one year, forcing parents to buy a new set every school year?

#5  Our daughter was in California a year or so ago. She developed a medical emergency while camping and ended up in the emergency room. She had to have an EpiPen. The trip to Emergency and the EpiPen ended up costing about $8000. To add insult to injury, she had high-deductible crappy ObamaCare insurance which covered little of the bill.

Africa Subsaharan
Children strapped with explosives kill nine in north Cameroon
Two children carrying explosives blew themselves up on Friday near a camp in northern Cameroon housing civilians displaced by Nigeria's Boko Haram militants, killing nine people and wounding 30, officials said.

They entered the town of Kolofata, around 10 km (6 miles) from the border with Nigeria, before dawn, posing as refugees looking for food before the start of the daytime fast for Ramadan.

"Two suicide bomber adolescents aged between 10 and 15 years infiltrated the town of Kolofata," Communications Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary told state radio, adding that both had detonated their explosives.

"The death toll is 1l, including the two suicide bombers, and 30 wounded, of which 10 are seriously wounded," he added.

A local government official said the 10 gravely wounded had been transported to a hospital in a nearby town.

"It was unbearable. People were screaming. Others were moaning. It was total horror," said a policeman present at the scene of the bombing.

Northern Cameroon has in recent years suffered from the overflow of violence linked to Nigeria's Boko Haram Islamist insurgents. Nigerian refugees have flooded across the border and local residents have been forced to flee their homes.

Boko Haram launches frequent cross-border raids in its bid to carve out an Islamic caliphate. Its eight-year insurgency has killed more than 20,000 people in the Lake Chad region and, according to the latest U.N. refugee agency figures, displaced 2.7 million.

The agency said on Friday it was "stepping up its response as large numbers of refugees return from Cameroon to north-eastern Nigeria," including some 12,000 in May, often returning home to very harsh, unsanitary conditions.

Villages and towns in the area have regularly been targeted by bombers. The officials said that Friday's bombing came a day after two young girls detonated their explosives in the nearby village of Djakana, killing themselves and lightly injuring two members of a local civilian self-defence force.

Kolofata has repeatedly been struck in the past, including one attack that killed nine people in September 2015. Nigeria's army has retaken much of the territory once occupied by Boko Haram, and a military coalition of regional neighbours has helped fight the Islamist insurgents across the borders in Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

The Cameroonian government has deployed thousands of soldiers, including elite units, to the Far North region.

Man fleeing London attack with beer in hand becomes unlikely symbol of London pride
Looks like he's got his priorities right.
A young man who fled yesterday's terrorist attacks with a pint of beer in hand has become something of an internet hero.

The photo, which has been retweeted over 28,000 times, features the man fleeing from the scene with a pint of beer in hand. For some, the photo provided a moment of profoundly dark comedy on a day otherwise entirely colored by tragedy.

"People fleeing #LondonBridge but the bloke on the right isn't spilling a drop. God Bless the Brits!" Howard Mannella, who posted a photo of the tweet, wrote.

People couldn't help but feel a little twinge of pride upon seeing a fellow Londoner refuse to leave his beer behind, despite the danger around him.

China-Japan-Koreas
Russia says North Korea nukes are a 'direct threat'

North Korea's nuclear ambitions are threatening to Russia, a Russian official said Sunday.

"It is not only (a) ballistic missile defense system -- it has real function," said Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin. "That is why it is alarming. And it is direct threat to Russia. We are convinced that it will increase the tensions of the region. That is our principle position."

Fomin spoke at the Shangri-La Dialogue, an international security conference in Singapore attended by defense ministers and experts from 39 countries, including U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.

Russia borders North Korea and saw one of Pyongyang's missiles land close to its waters. But it differs from the U.S. and its allies on how to rein in the North's rapidly escalating nuclear and ballistic missile program.

Backing fresh sanctions on North Korea, Russia's deputy U.N. ambassador Vladimir Safronkov stressed in June that "the choice here has to be made in favor of using diplomatic tools to the maximum extent possible."

Fomin had similar sentiments. "Economical restrictions should be a kind of tool to invoke North Korea to a peaceful process of resolving the dispute and conflict, and not to once again deteriorate the economic solution in North Korea," he said.

Addressing the South China Sea conflict, Fomin was careful with his words. "All states involved in territorial disagreements in the South China Sea need to adhere the principle of the non-use of force," he said.

China - a Russian ally - has pitted itself against its smaller neighbors in claiming disputed islands, coral reefs and lagoons in the South China Sea.

NBC News Throws Shade on President Trump's Terror Tweet: ‘Info is Unconfirmed'
In light of the recent attacks in London, President Trump used the opportunity to a renew his calls for a travel ban,. He also retweeted a Drudge tweet that suggested that the fluid story was already a terror attack:
{Image of Trump's tweet calling it a terrorist attack}
In an unprecedented move, NBC News twitter feed followed up, with a uniquely dismissive comment:
{Image of NBC tweet saying Trump's comments were unconfirmed}
Trump came under criticism recently when he referenced an attack at a resort in the Phillipines as a terrorist attack before the specifics of that story were clear.
Because it was so hard to figure out.
While London authorities have now only recently claimed that they are treating this event as a terror attack, it’s rather stunning that the sitting president appeared to think it wise to retweet a Drudge Report tweet and not relay official information of which he has exclusive access.
It's also stunning to think that a sitting president gets all his info from Drudge, and that he didn't get a briefing on the subject 45 minutes before he tweeted that the attack was terrorism.

Britain
London Bridge attack - day 3
Herewith a summary of what was known as of midnight, and a place to add updates as the day progresses. Yesterday's report is here. The original report of the attack is here.
From the BBC:
Here's a rundown of what has happened since Saturday evening:
  • Seven people have been killed, 48 were injured, 36 remain in hospital, 21 are in a critical condition

  • Police have arrested 12 people - 11 of them at a single address in Barking - as investigations continue.

  • So-called Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack encrypted messaging app Telegram

  • During the incident, a member of the public was shot by police, but is not in a life-threatening condition

  • Cordons are still in place in the area around London Bridge, though police hope to reopen some areas on Monday morning

  • Borough station has reopened

  • There will be a minute's silence held across the UK at 11:00 BST on Tuesday

London's Metropolitan Police have offered fresh details on the arrests made earlier today, and are still searching four other properties. Officers made 11 of the 12 arrests at a single property, police said.

A 38-year-old woman was arrested at one address in Barking. At another, also in Barking, officers arrested:

53-year-old woman
28-year-old man
52-year-old man
55-year-old man
27-year-old man
55-year-old man, who has since been released without charge
49-year-old woman
60-year-old woman
19-year-old woman
27-year-old woman
24-year-old woman

Police said there were no arrests at two addresses in Newham, "although a number of people have been spoken to".

The Daily Mail claims to know the identity of the killer from the Barking apartment block, but is not revealing it at the request of the police. Another Daily Mail article claims that at least two of the three killers are "British born Pakistanis". A third article reports one of the killers was in a television documentary last year about British jihadis.

From the Sun liveblog:
HOMEGROWN KILLER At least one of the jihadis who launched the vile attack on London Bridge grew up in the UK and used to work for KFC and TFL. The 27-year-old terrorist, who cops are asking to be identified only as “Abz”, was a home-grown jihadi who came to UK from Pakistan as a child and spent his life in Barking, East London. He is believed to have been radicalised over the past year – possibly through watching extremist videos on Google-owned video-sharing site YouTube – before mounting his murderous spree with two knife-wielding accomplices in fake bomb vests.

SUSPECT ‘WAS REPORTED TO POLICE’ A friend of one of the suspected attackers who killed seven people and left 48 injured was apparently reported to police. The man, who did not want to be named, told the BBC’s Asian Network that he called the anti-terror hotline but no action was taken.

VAN RECENTLY HIRED Police have confirmed the van used in the attack was a white Renault van which was recently hired by one of the attackers.

From the Telegraph liveblog:
Counter-terrorism officers secretly recorded an alleged Isil-inspired terror cell in Barking last month discussing how to use YouTube to plot a van and knife attack in London, The Daily Telegraph can reveal.

In a statement released 24 hours after the killings on its official Amaq media channel, Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) said the three suspects had been part of a "sleeper cell".

#7  Meanwhile, it wasn't all Run, Hide, Tell in London during the attack. From the BBC link at 6:29:

Romanian baker Florin Morariu has been described as a hero on social media.

The man, who works at Bread Ahead bakery in Borough Market, saw a commotion outside the shop on Saturday evening.

He invited some distressed Brazilian women into the shop and gave them a glass of water. They explained that three men were stabbing revellers in the market.

He said he grabbed two crates and went outside to find the attackers and defend the injured.

Speaking to the Victoria Derbyshire show, he said: "I felt pity for the victims, I didn't know how to handle things or react, I thought to myself I'm also in danger.

"I just threw the crate at [one of the attackers]. I threw the first crate and I knew he was going to dodge it. While he was dodging it I walked towards him and hit him in the head with the other crate."

He then said a policeman shouted at him to stand back.

The officer then discharged a grenade.

Portland Police Confiscate Weapons From Antifa, Make Arrests During ‘Free Speech Rally'
Three people were arrested in Portland, Oregon, on Sunday after protesters clashed with police during a free speech rally near City Hall and various parks in the city.

Hundreds of people gathered for what started out as a celebration of free speech and morphed into a battle between pro- and anti-Trump camps. The gathering was also aimed at memorializing the horrific hate crime that left two men dead in a stabbing on a Portland train last week.

At the beginning of the day, pro-Trump organizer Joey Gibson called those who died heroes for their bravery in defending two young teenage girls from a bigoted attack. "Find it in yourself to make this day possible, with no hate and no violence. I’m sick and tired of the hatred ... that has taken over the country," Gibson said.
Golly. The way the Mayor of Portland and the press were talking about it beforehand, you'd think the pro-Trump folks would have been there to celebrate the a$$hole who stabbed everyone. Who could have guessed? Aside from anyone with a two-sided brain, of course.
The pro-free speech rally attracted a number of familiar faces at other, similar demonstrations from around the country. At one point in the afternoon, Kyle "Based Stickman" Chapman gave a speech to supporters.

Despite pleas for peace and nonviolence, police confiscated a number of weapons from protesters, mainly from the Antifa and anti-Trump camps.
Mainly? I wonder what that means.
In one video, police can be seen storming an anarchist camp while protesters yell expletives and insults.
While the pro-Trump folks probably just stood there calmly and laughed.
In another video, an apparent pro-Trump activist lights an anarchist’s flag on fire.
Unfortunately, it was not tied around the anarchist.
The Oregonian uploaded footage of police deploying flash-bangs and tear gas in order to disperse black-masked individuals protesting in a public park.
Any idea why the police would prefer to disperse them instead of arrest them, while the pro-Trump folks probably just stood there calmly and laughed.

#4  Unlike Berkeley, Portland PD disarmed Antifa. The typical Antifa tactic is to initially reserve their battle group, then deploy around mid event in hopes of avoiding being disarmed by police. Remember, all Patriots must pass through a PD cordon - they are disarmed by default. The armor worn to these events may often be creative, but it serves an all too real purpose. I've seen increasingly effective communication between the relevant PD officers on scene and the Patriot security employed at these events. Good coordination in expectation of possible scenarios.

CNN Creates #FakeNews in London Following Terror Attacks, Stages Anti-ISIS Muslim Protesters
Gotta click the link for all the Twitter and video imagery that go with the comments I grabbed below.
A video released a day after the Islamic terror attacks in London show a CNN crew staging a scene with Muslims holding signs saying "ISIS Will Lose".

The following is a screenshot of the signs:

CNN’s Abu Dhabi Managing Editor, Becky Anderson’s original video was posted to her official Twitter account where she called the London terrorists a ’handful of twisted fools hell-bent on taking lives’.

Below is a video of the behind-the-scenes work CNN did to stage the photo-op with Muslims holding up signs that read, ’ISIS WILL LOSE’.

The original post came from Mark Antro, a Londoner who captured the video:

Mark Antro also tweeted out that BBC wanted to film it...

Antro also notes that white police officers walked out of the scene and were replaced with Asian officers:

According to a British viewer, BBC News also used this staged photo-op:

Raphael Satter, a journalist for AP also posted a picture to his Twitter account of the staged photo-op:

English newspaper columnist for the Daily Mail, Katie Hopkins chimed in as well saying, "Please watch. You are being deceived."

Afghanistan
Taliban’s shadow deputy governor and 10 militants killed in Kapisa
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The shadow deputy governor of the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
group for northeastern Kapisa province of Afghanistan has been killed during an operation of the Afghan Special Forces, the Afghan army said Sunday.

According to 201st Silab Corps of the Afghan National Army in the East, Mawlavi Dost Mohammad was killed during an operation conducted by the commando forces of the Afghan National Army.

At least ten murderous Moslems belonging to the Taliban group were also killed during the operation, the 201st Silab Corps said, adding that the operation was conducted in Khamir Daran area located between Kohi Safi and Tagab districts.

Kapisa has been among the relatively calm provinces in northeastern parts of the country but the security situation in some remote parts of the province has started to deteriorate during the recent years.

This comes as the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) personnel have stepped up counter-terrorism operations to suppress the insurgency activities of the murderous Moslems.

The murderous Moslems activities mainly led by the Taliban group have been rampant since the group announced its offensive last month and vowed to carry out more attacks across the country.

Syrian Kurds will not allow ‘Shia paramilitary groups’ to enter Syria from Iraq
[ALMASDARNEWS] Sihanouk Dibo, the presidential advisor of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party in Syria (PYD), told ARA News that the Syrian Kurds are open to relations with Baghdad, after the expulsion of ISIS from the Iraqi-Syrian border.

"It will be good to deal with Iraqi government and coordinate with it to serve and establish security and social stability especially on the economic side and meet the needs of civilians and people on both sides who are under the conditions of siege imposed on Rojava-Northern Syria," Dibo said.

In an exclusive interview with ARA News, the Kurdish official accused the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
of imposing an embargo on the Syrian Kurds from both sides of the border.

But the official said that although cooperation will benefit both Syrian Kurds and the Iraqi government, there should be no ’interference in internal affairs’ or ’imposition of narrow projects and agendas’.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Asayish [Kurdish police] have stressed they will not allow the Shia paramilitary groups to enter Syria.

"We won’t allow [the creation of] any communication line between al-Hashd al-Shaabi [Iraq’s Shia Popular Mobilisation Units] and the Syrian regime under any circumstance," Asayish head Ciwan Ibrahim told Asharq al-Awsat.

"There is no difference between Turkey, Iran and the Bashir al-Assad regime because they work against the Syrian Kurds," he said.

Eyewitnesses Say Community Police Fled From Scene Of Terror Stabbings At Borough Market
[DailyCaller] Multiple eyewitnesses said that community police officers fled from Borough Market in London after seeing two men with knives stabbing people as part of a terror attack Saturday.

These eyewitnesses told The Guardian’s Lisa O’Carroll that two men started stabbing people outside a restaurant in Borough Market, close to where the first terror attack took place on London Bridge, resulting in multiple fatalities.

"I saw two guys with big knives downstairs outside Roast. They were stabbing people," the eyewitnesses said.

Perhaps the most jarring part of the testimony was a report that, instead of running to the stabbing to stop it, the police turned around and ran the other way.

Zero hour approaches as Syrian Army, Hezbollah begin important Daraa offensive
[ALMASDARNEWS] The long-awaited Dara’a City offensive by the Syrian government troops and Hezbollah is set to begin in the coming days, a military source told al-Masdar News this weekend.

Led by the elite 42nd Brigade (Ghiath Forces) of the 4th Mechanized Division, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies will unleash their largest assault on the thriving provincial capital, as they look to expel the remaining gunnies from the ciy.

According to al-Masdar’s Ibrahim Joudeh in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army has already begun firing missiles and artillery shells on the jihadist positions in the al-Manishiyah and Dara’a al-Balad districts.

Joudeh reports that at least 70 missiles have struck the enemy’s positions in the Dara’a al-Balad District, while other units from the 4th and 5th divisions fire elephant missiles towards al-Manishiyah.

This upcoming offensive will primarily focus on retaking the entire southern half of the city that is currently under jihadist control.

1760 Peshmerga soldiers killed in anti-IS war since 2014

turbans has stood at 1760, Kurdistan Region’s Government said Sunday.

Mahmoud Haji Saleh, the Kurdish Martyrs Affairs Minister, said 9000 fighters have also been maimed, while 63 others went missing since the start of the war against the Islamic State in the summer of 2014.

Peshmerga, the army force of the Kurdistan autonomous region, had been actively participating in the U.S.-backed Iraqi government’s campaign against Islamic State turbans who emerged in 2014 to proclaim an "Islamic Caliphate" in Iraq and neighboring Syria.

The government’s campaign to drive Islamic State turbans out of their previously proclaimed capital, djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, is nearing an end, with only a few pockets held by the group await liberation.

Erbil and Baghdad had engaged in a political war of words a few months ago regarding control over areas recaptured from IS by Peshmerga troops to which Erbil had originally claimed illusory sovereignty. While several political figures from Erbil reiterated that their region would not withdraw troops from those regions, Baghdad urged to postpone the dispute to after the final elimination of the Islamic State from the country.

said Sunday that an alleged white phosphorus attack blamed on Iraqi forces was, in fact, an intended smoke screen against IS snipers.
Eh? It's not Taqqiya Tuesday yet!
The Joint Operations Command said via the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell that alleged attack on Saturday near the Jamhuri Hospital in al-Shefa district was in fact a smoke bombardment aimed at blurring the vision of IS snipers targeting a huge number of civilians who were escaping toward security forces.

The command said that the circulated videos presenting white pillows of smoke as the result of bombardment with the banned substance were "inaccurate". It added that the smoke screen technique had already been used during operations in eastern and western Mosul.

Cooperation and relations with Iraq are of immense importance to the stability and security of Iraq and Rojava, Dibo said, arguing that "Baghdad is important to us."

Democratic Union Party (PYD), PKK’s offshoot in Syria, has brought road construction equipment to the Syria-Iraq border, aiming to open a route between Rojava and Hashd al-Shaabi forces for trade purposes.

An agreement is likely to have been made between PKK and Hashd al-Shaabi on the move.

Mashal murder case: JIT finds group in university incited mob against student on pretext of blasphemy
[DAWN] A report compiled by a 13-member joint investigation team (JIT) investigating the lynching of Mashal Khan stated that a group in the university incited a mob against the Mardan university student on pretext of blasphemy. It added that no proof was found that Khan had committed blasphemy.

In April, a vigilante mob, incited by rumours attacked Khan for allegedly "publishing blasphemous content online". The mass communication student was beaten and shot by the mob and succumbed to the injuries he received.

The JIT report acquired by DawnNews said that Khan was murdered in line with a plan allegedly hatched by Sabir Mayar, the president of the Pakhtun Student's Federation (PSF) and Ajmal, the president of the employees at the Abdul Wali Khan University (AWKU), where Khan was studying Mass Communication.

The report said that during interrogation, Ajmal claimed that Mayar had come into his office one day and said that Mashal "must be removed". However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
the report added, the interrogation did not offer clarity into the meaning of Mayar's remarks.

According to the report, Mayar viewed Khan's stance against activities on campus to be a threat to the PSF.

The JIT report said that Khan had been vocal about the rights of students at the university and even challenged the appointment of a new vice chancellor (VC) at the university to ensure that students were able to obtain their degrees, which is not possible without the VC's signature.

Days before he was lynched by the mob, Khan in an interview to Khyber news channel spoke against activities at the university and the administration, the report said.

The investigation revealed that illegal and criminal activities persisted in the university hostel and female students were also exploited in the university.

In its proceedings, the JIT investigated the role the police played in the incident and in its report, recommended an inquiry to probe the negligence of police officials.

The report added that no evidence regarding allegations of blasphemy against Khan was found during investigation into the student's murder.

Indonesia: 1,200 ISIS fighters in the Philippines
[AFP] There are about 1,200 Islamic State operatives in the Philippines, including foreigners of whom 40 are from Indonesia, the Indonesian defense minister told an international security forum on Sunday. Speaking in Singapore, Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu called the terrorists "killing machines" and urged full-scale regional cooperation against them.

The threat of heightened terrorism, including the impending return of hundreds of Southeast Asian fighters who fought with ISIS in Syria and Iraq, has been a hot-button issue at the three-day Singapore summit also attended by U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.

"How can we tackle these foreign fighters? We have to be comprehensive. We have to find... complete ways but we must exercise caution, they are killing machines. Their aim is to kill other people so that's why it's our responsibility that we have common understanding, consensus and common proceedings on how to fight these foreign fighters," said Ryacudu, a retired general.

Philippine Defense Undersecretary Ricardo David, speaking at the same forum, said the 1,200 figure for total ISIS fighters in the Philippines mentioned by Indonesia was new to him. He said, "I really don't know, my figure is about 250-400, a lot less."

But David said there were 40 foreign ISIS fighters among those who seized parts of Marawi, eight of whom have been killed by government forces. Earlier, Philippine officials said the killed foreign fighters were from Malaysia, Indonesia, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Chechnya.

The Philippine official said that the foreign fighters used "back channels" in the Sulu and Celebes Seas near the borders of the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia to enter Mindanao and link up with local terrorists. David said, "That's why they were able to muster the operations in the area of Marawi."

Western terror policies have 'backfired', says Ayatollah Khamenei

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
holy warrior group in Europe and elsewhere show that Western policies in the Middle East have backfired, Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Sunday.

"Today, ISIS (IS) is being pushed out from its birthplace in Iraq and Syria and is moving to other countries -- Afghanistan, Pakistain and even the Philippines and European countries," Khamenei said in a televised speech.

"This is a fire that (Western powers) themselves ignited and now has backfired on them," he told a gathering of bigwigs in Tehran at a ceremony to mark the anniversary of the death of revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989.

Khamenei used the speech to push back against some of the reformist rhetoric used by President Hassan Rouhani during his successful bid for re-election last month.

Rouhani called his conservative opponents "extremists" and promised greater civil liberties and more dialogue with the West.

"Do not dismiss revolutionary behaviour as extremism. Being revolutionary is the need of the country today," Khamenei said.

"Rationality means not coming under the dominance of the power of America and its arrogance again, once one has freed oneself from it."

Baseless accusations against Pakistan detrimental for Afghanistan's future, warns Pruneface
[DAWN] Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj PrunefaceAziz
...Adviser to Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on National Security and Foreign Affairs, who believes in good jihadis and bad jihadis as a matter of national policy...
on Sunday rejected the 'baseless and unfounded' allegations stemming from Afghanistan following the terrorist attack in Kabul on May 31.

"We have witnessed with serious concern the baseless accusations against Pakistain by certain elements inside and outside Afghanistan, made within minutes of the attack and obviously before any investigation," read a statement issued by the Foreign Office (FO).

Citing nefarious intentions behind the allegations, Aziz insisted there were elements trying to hamper any chance of peace between the two countries.

"This accusatory approach is instigated by those who have no interest in peace and stability in Afghanistan and their malicious agenda is to damage Afghanistan-Pakistain relations and the cooperation initiatives recently gaining momentum," he was quoted as saying.

"Being the victim of terrorism, we feel the pain and agony of the Afghan people," the adviser to the prime minister noted in his statement.

Sartaj also suggested that the finger-pointing was an attempt to cover up shortcomings on the other side of the Durand Line, saying, "Leveling allegations against other countries only signifies a tendency to externalise the internal challenges faced by Afghanistan."

With an army of 27,000, Hamas terror chief Deif readies Gaza for war some time later
[IsraelTimes] The Strip’s Islamist regime may not want conflict yet, but its ’chief of staff’ is preparing for one. And some believe it is better equipped for conflict than it was in 2014.

If things weren’t bad enough for residents of the Gazoo Strip, the ocean -- the only place where they could escape the heat and their suffering -- has been declared off-limits to bathers in much of the area. The decision was taken by the Gazoo municipality, citing the severe pollution of the beaches. Gazoo’s sewage-treatment plants have shut down due to the ongoing power shortage, and as a result, untreated sewage has been flowing into the sea.

"The only place we could go to have fun has been closed too," said T., a Gazoo City resident, in a telephone interview. "There are a few beaches in the northern Gazoo Strip where swimming is still possible, but they’re far away. So where are we going to go? There’s no pay, no power, no beach. We’re swimming in shit," he added, laughing bitterly.

Farage: ‘Words Are Not Enough, People Want Action’
[BREITBART] UK Independence Party (UKIP) MEP Nigel Farage has slammed London Mayor Sadiq Khan for not addressing extremism in Moslem communities and criticised Theresa May’s tenure as home secretary, saying that the prime minister’s words are not enough and people want action.

On Fox and Friends Weekend, the Brexit campaigner criticised Mr. Khan for telling Londoners "not to be alarmed" saying:

"I understand the mayor wishing to not spread panic but what I would like to hear is him say: ’As the first Moslem mayor of London, I am going to do all I can to work with the Moslem community to drive out the bad boy preachers from our mosques. To do all we can to stop radicalisation happening in schools and in prisons.’

"And I did not hear a single word of that," the former UKIP party leader said.

"The Iraqi flag has been hoisted above its buildings," said a statement from the Hashed, an umbrella organization for pro-government paramilitaries that is dominated by Iran-backed Shiite militias.

The forces on May 23 announced they had retaken Qayrawan.

Both areas are in Nineveh, the province of which Mosul is the capital, and lie between territory under ISIS control in Iraq and Syria.

The jihadists took over large swathes of territory of Iraq and Syria in 2014, but have since faced offensives on several fronts in both countries.

Iraqi forces backed by the U.S.-led coalition have since October been battling to oust ISIS from Mosul.

They are advancing on the last areas of the city still held by ISIS, but the presence of large numbers of civilians is slowing their progress.

(ISIS) launched a massive assault on the western countryside of Deir Ezzor, tonight, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses in the Panorama area of the province.

ISIS’s large-scale night assault would prove successful, as their forces managed to take control of the Panorama School near the strategic roundabout.

Following the capture of the Panorama School, the Islamic State forces broke-through the Syrian Arab Army’s front-lines at the large hilltop of Tal Umm Abboud, forcing the latter to reinforce the area in order to avoid being overrun.

According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, the situation is not good for the Syrian military at the Panorama front, as the Islamic State forces are steadily advancing at Tal Umm Abboud and Tal SyriaTel.

If the aforementioned hilltops are captured, tonight, then the Islamic State forces will reach the southern gates of Deir Ezzor City by sunrise on Monday.

The Syrian and Russian air forces are now launching Arclight airstrikes along the Islamic State’s main supply route to the Panorama area, hitting several sites as far south as the Thardeh Mountains and al-Thayyem Oil Fields.

The military source informed al-Masdar that ISIS is losing a significant number of fighters to achieve this advance in Deir Ezzor, so this could be prove costly in the future for the terrorist group.

MSNBC Anchor Wonders If Trump Trying To Provoke A Terror Attack To Prove A Point
[DAILYCALLER] MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts theorized on Sunday that President Trump is trying to provoke a terrorist attack on U.S. soil in order to "prove himself right" about Islamic terrorism.

Roberts floated the theory during two separate interviews, one with Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed and another with former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean
Former Dem governor of Vermont or Rhode Island or one of those dinky states. Howard lost his bid to be president by shrieking and screaming and acting like a loon. Then they made him chairman of the Dem national campaign committee, where he continued doing the same things only nobody paid any attention....
Roberts pointed to Trump’s tweets early Sunday in the wake of a terrorist attack that left at least seven dead in London.

Trump wrote that "we must stop being politically correct and get down to the business of security for our people." He also criticized London’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, who said that there was "no reason to be alarmed" following the attacks.

"The president doesn’t want us to be politically correct, right? So let’s not be PC about this. Is the president trying to provoke a domestic terrorist attack with this Twitter rant, because only to prove himself right?" Roberts asked Reed during an interview.

Defending new curriculum against incitement charges, PA education chief says he’s ‘safeguarding Palestinian narrative’
[IsraelTimes] Israel keeps its maps and heroes, and the Paleostinians do likewise, says Sabri Saidam; will consider Holocaust studies, demands Israel teach the ’Nakba’; says main goal of reform is to prepare Paleostinian students for job market.
After the usual nonsense -- are Paleostinian teachers really going to start keeping creativity portfolios instead of demanding rote memorization? -- some useful information:
The idea is to foster and value creativity and other less quantifiable skills, which might lead to students becoming successful entrepreneurs, along the lines of the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs (two titans who didn’t earn college degrees).

In 2016, the unemployment rate for young Paleostinians (15-29) reached 39%. Interestingly, young Paleostinians without college degrees fare better in the job market than those who pursued academic studies. In this context, another important aspect of the reform is vocational and technical trading, which Saidam believes is "the way forward."

There is currently a glut in traditional careers like law and medicine, and the minister hopes to diversify the Paleostinian labor force. To do this, starting in the next school year, students in grades 7 through 9 will study nine vocational skills to "meet modern needs": mobile phone maintenance, irrigation and agriculture, environmental solutions, modern carpentry, construction, hotel management and tourism, computer programming, computer design and systems analysis.
Yes, some of those will be useful for future terrorists, but they could lead either to real jobs or the ability to learn other vocational skills that would lead to real jobs. People who are working are less likely to head out on jihad.

According to the ICR for the Tver region, the tragedy took place on the night of June 4 in a fruit-growing association '50 let Oktyabrya' in the Redkino village, Konakovo district. The suspect worked as an electrician and carried out installation work in the cottage settlement. He had a domestic conflict with the allotment gardeners. The man went home for a gun, and then returned and shot the offenders and witnesses with a 12-caliber carbine Saiga. The victims include two women and six men.

The law enforcers also add that the suspect of mass murder has been detained; investigative actions are currently being conducted with him. It is noteworthy that he does not have previous criminal record; he had only been prosecuted for traffic rules violation. It was found that he was drunk at the time of the crime.
I am shocked, shocked!
Criminal experts are currently working at the crime scene. The circumstances of the incident are being established.

Afghanistan
Nadeem F. Paracha: Marx And The Mujahideen
Paracha is discussing his friend Yousaf, who ran off to fight against the Soviets in Afghanistan...
[DAWN] In 2011, Jonathan Steele, author and war correspondent of UK’s The Guardian published his eighth and most referenced book The Afghan Ghost.

Steele puts to rest the common belief that it was the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 which kick-started the civil war there. A former CIA operative and later President Obama’s defence secretary, Robert Gates, wrote in his 2015 book Duty that a number of insurgent leaders who fought against the Soviets had earlier rebelled against the ‘modernist’ Afghan nationalist regime of Sardar Daud (1973-78). Gates also wrote that many of these insurgents were already being backed by the US and by the Z.A. Bhutto government in Pakistan, years before the 1979 invasion of Afghanistan by Soviet forces.

The claim which Steele takes the most pleasure in debunking is regarding the Islamic insurgents’ role in triggering the fall of Soviet communism. Steele quotes Morton Abramowitz, who directed the US State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research at the time, as saying that in 1985 there was great concern in Reagan’s White House that the mujahideen were actually losing the war. Abramowitz told Steele that the insurgents were losing major battles and ‘falling apart.’

According to Steele it was the new Soviet leader Gorbachev who decided to pull the plug and begin to roll back the war in Afghanistan. Steele wrote that “Gorbachev calculated that the war had become a stalemate” and was draining the Soviet economy. The Soviet economy was already under strain mainly due to failed socialist experiments. Its ultimate failure and the Soviet Union’s eventual collapse had little to do with the Soviet involvement in Afghanistan. Basically the Soviet Union imploded from within.

Yousaf went to Afghanistan again in 1987. He returned later that year and by the early 1990s he had become completely disillusioned by his earlier passions. I last met him in 2004 when he was moving to Nairobi with his wife and children. I handed him back the two booklets he had given me in 1986, jokingly telling him that he might still need to give his life some spiritual meaning.

He laughed, then ran to his bedroom and came back with an old paperback biography of Karl Marx. He took the booklets from me and handed me the Marx bio, saying: “Thanks, and here, this is for you. These booklets and the Marx bio will remind both of us about the utter stupidity of youthful idealism.”

Turkey arrests editor-in-chief of Aydinlik opposition newspaper
[DW] The Aydinlik newspaper has reported the arrest of its editor-in-chief, Ilker Yucel. The apparent cause was an unpaid fine for an article about President Erdogan's son-in-law published in 2014.

The Aydinlik newspaper, in its digital edition on Saturday, said its editor-in-chief, Ilker Yucel, was tossed in the slammer

The case dates back to 2014 when Aydinlik published an article about Berat Albayrak, the son-in-law of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who has been energy minister since November 2015. The report claimed Albayrak had links to crime. Accusations from the Wikileaks websites allege the 39-year-old Albyarak played a role in the sale of oil by the so-called "Islamic State

A court in Turkey ordered the newspaper to either publish a disclaimer about its report or pay a $28,000 (24,800 euro) fine. The paper refused, with Yucel saying the disclaimer "insulted" the paper.

Yucel is also a prominent member of the small, left-wing Patriotic Party (Vatan) which renewed itself in 2015, bringing together socialists, revolutionaries and nationalists.

Britain
Timeline of major terror attacks in Britain
In case you lost track...
[DAWN] Manchester Arena bombing
May, 2017: A suicide bomber blows himself outside a pop concert by teen idol Ariana Grande in Manchester in northwest England, killing 22 people and injuring 116.

Seven of the victims were under the age of 18.

The attack was carried out by 22-year-old Salman Abedi, a Manchester-born university drop-out of Libyan origin. The attack was claimed by the militant Islamic State (IS) group.

Westminster Bridge attack
March 22, 2017: Five people are killed and more than 50 wounded when a man rams his car into pedestrians on Westminster bridge in London before crashing into the barriers surrounding parliament and then stabbing a police officer to death.

The attacker, 52-year-old British Muslim convert Khalid Mahmood, is shot dead by police at the scene. Investigators describe the lone-wolf attack as “Islamist related terrorism”.

Lawmaker murdered
June 16, 2016: British Labour lawmaker Jo Cox is shot and stabbed to death by a pro-Nazi sympathiser just days before the historic vote to leave the EU.

Far-right white nationalist Thomas Mair is later sentenced to life in prison for her murder.

London underground stabbing
December 5, 2015: A paranoid schizophrenic stabs two people at London's Leytonstone Underground station, two days after Britain's first air strikes on IS in Syria.

The knifeman, Somali-born Muhaydin Mire, 30, is sentenced to life behind bars. The police say the incident is a “terrorist” attack.

British soldier slain
May 22, 2013: British soldier Lee Rigby, 25, is hacked to death by two Britons of Nigerian descent near an army barracks in London.

Witnesses say the attackers encouraged them to film the scene and yelled religious slogans before being injured and arrested by police.

In February 2014, Michael Adebolajo, 29, is sentenced to life in prison for the murder while Michael Adebowale, 22, receives a minimum of 45 years behind bars.

Northern Ireland shootings
March 2009: The month saw a sudden resurgence of political violence in Northern Ireland with two soldiers shot dead outside their barracks by republican militants as they went to collect a pizza delivery, the first such slaying since 1997.

Two days later a police officer is shot dead by a different paramilitary republican faction.

Glasgow airport attack
June 30, 2007: Two men in a burning vehicle ram into the main terminal of Glasgow Airport in Scotland.

An Indian driving the car suffers serious burns and later dies.

The passenger, Iraqi doctor Bilal Abdulla, 29, is jailed in December for at least 32 years for plotting to murder hundreds of people.

Suicide bombers hit London transport
July 7, 2005: Four British suicide bombers inspired by Al Qaeda attack London's Underground network and a bus during rush hour, killing 52 people, as well as themselves, and wounding 700.

It was the deadliest attack on British soil since a Pan Am airliner blew up over the Scottish town of Lockerbie, killing a total of 270 people including 11 on the ground, in 1988.

The London attack took place just a day after the city was awarded the 2012 Olympics.

MP slams U.S. consulate in Erbil for raising LGBT flag
[Iraq News] An Iraqi parliamentarian has slammed the United States consulate in Erbil for raising the gay pride flag alongside the U.S. flag, saying the action was not suitable to take in an Islamic region.

Alrassid news website quoted Habib al-Tarfi, an MP from the Iraqi holy province of Karbala, saying that the step taken by the consulate was "shameful" to raise the flag in " a religious Iraqi province and during the holy month of Ramadan", saying he "would have burned the consulate" had it been at his constituency.

Tarfi urged the Kurdistan Region Government to take a stance regarding the incident.

In an official statement, the consulate said Saturday it was raising the famous rainbow flag in solidarity with LGBT rights and in commemoration of the Pride Month celebration, which marks the anniversary of the lesbians, gays, trans-sexuals’ and bisexuals’ Pride Parade in the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
1978.

Homosexual relationships are strictly prohibited in both Sunni and Shia Islam.

Though the Iraqi constitution does not clearly incriminate homosexuality, reports by Human Rights Watch had told of kidnappings, tortures and murders targeting LGBTs early 2009. Under late president Saddam Hussein, a campaign was launched to incriminate adultery, homosexuality and rape, demanding execution as a punishment. A report by the Observer late 2009 counted 680 murders of homosexual victims between 2004 and 2009.

Marawi residents trapped in unsuccessful cease-fire bid
[Reuters] Thousands of civilians hoping to flee the fighting in Marawi remained trapped on Sunday after a four-hour ceasefire to evacuate residents was marked by gunfire. Only 134 were freed on Sunday, less than on previous days, despite government hopes that more than 1,000 would be able to leave a city battered by 13 days of intense fighting.

President Rodrigo Duterte predicted the siege would be over within days despite fierce resistance by militants aligned to Islamic State in the dense urban heart of the southern Philippines city.

"This will be over in about three more days. I will not hesitate to use every power available," Duterte said on Saturday after visiting a hospital in Cagayan de Oro where injured soldiers were being treated.

About 400 local rebels reinforced by about 40 foreign fighters stormed Marawi on May 23, using sophisticated tactics to take control of large swaths of the lakeside city. They have been pushed back to the city center by security forces over the past week after some 4,000 ground troops were bolstered by helicopters and aircraft deploying rockets and bombs.

Residents have reported that the airstrikes caused extensive property damage and dozens of civilian deaths. Authorities raised the civilian death toll from 20 to 38 on Sunday, but said those deaths were caused by the rebels. A presidential spokesman said 120 militants had died, along with 38 government troops.

Duterte said the use of air power had been restrained so far. He said, "I can end this war in 24 hours. All I have to do is to bomb the whole place and level it to the ground."

Duterte has asked the Moro Islamic Liberation Front to help negotiate a peace agreement with the Islamist fighters, who are predominantly drawn from the Maute group based in and around Marawi.

MILF personnel organized Sunday's ceasefire, which was to run from 8 am until noon. They roamed the streets with loudspeakers urging residents to leave. But by 9am, gunfire had broken out, deterring many from joining a mass exodus.

Marawi City's mayor Majul Gandamra had said he was expecting "more or less 1,000 plus to be rescued today". But in the end, only 134 were evacuated, less than previous days when there were no ceasefires. About 2,000 civilians remain in the city.

Irene Santiago, appointed by the government to organise the "peace corridor", said the effort was a success, noting the fighting was several kilometers away from where the evacuation took place. She said negotiations were continuing with the Maute militants for another temporary ceasefire on Monday.

Manchester Bomber Met With ISIS Unit in Libya, Officials Say

unit linked to the November 2015 Gay Paree terrorist attack, according to current and retired intelligence officials.

The content of the communications between the attacker, Salman Abedi, and the terrorist cell remains unknown. But the possibility that he was directed or enabled by Islamic State operatives in Libya, as opposed to Syria, suggests that even as the group’s Middle East base is shrinking, at least one of its remote franchises is developing ways to continue attacks within Europe.

On visits to Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
as well as to the coastal Libyan town of Sabratha, Mr. Abedi met with operatives of the Katibat al-Battar al-Libi, a core Islamic State unit that was headquartered in Syria before some of its members dispersed to Libya.

Originally made up of Libyans who had gone to Syria to fight in the civil war, the unit became a magnet for French and Belgian imported muscle, and several were dispatched to carry out attacks abroad. Some of the terrorist group’s most devastating hits in Europe, including the coordinated attack in Gay Paree in 2015, were shaped by alumni of the brigade.

...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, security officials told Dawn.

The operation in the hills near Mastung started on Friday and was continuing when this report was filed late Saturday night.

The action was prompted by intelligence reports that two Chinese-language instructors kidnapped from Quetta on May 24 were being held in the area. The security forces are said to have recovered the vehicle allegedly used in the kidnapping of the Chinese duo from the area.

Earlier in the month, about 28 people were killed in a suicide kaboom on the convoy of Senate Deputy Chairman Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri
...Central Secretary General of JUI-F, member of the Pak senate, formerly provincial minister of Balochistan. He has a master's degree in Islam and runs a madrassah...
in Mastung.

The Saturday night operation was kept highly classified, according to a military source, to prevent any leakage of information.

The Inter-Services Public Relations, the media wing of the military, did not immediately comment on the reports about the operation.

According to reports, top 10 commanders of the IS from different parts of the country had assembled in the Mastung area for a meeting when the raid began. It is claimed that at least eight or nine of the commanders were killed and the remaining have been captured. The names of the slain commanders were not immediately available.

At least seven troops were maimed in the operation, including three officers. Two of the injured soldiers are said to be in a critical condition.

The level of the IS leadership claimed to have been taken out, when confirmed, indicates that it could be the biggest operation against the murderous Moslem outfit since Lashkar-e-Jhangvi

in 2015, who were then said to be close to joining the IS.

Security sources say elimination of top leadership would serve a major blow to the IS in Pakistain. Officially the government denies presence of the murderous Moslem organization in the country.

A security source said the terrain of the area was very difficult and the troops had to physically go there because there was no option.

"The battle is going on ... kidnapped Chinese persons are inside a deep cave being used as command base by the IS. Special Services Group commandos are going in," a security source said in a late-night update.

-aligned Maute group in Marawi’s Barangay Mapandi, Sunday.

Some 50 Maute murderous Moslems are reportedly being pursued by government forces as Marawi remains blockaded.

During the operation, several armoured vehicles were reportedly damaged in Barangay Mapandi, a Maute stronghold.

Efforts to evacuate some 2,000 civilians trapped by the fighting between the government forces and Maute murderous Moslems were halted when a proposed four-hour ceasefire deal failed amid renewed gunfire and Arclight airstrikes.

Out of 2,000 trapped civilians, only 170 were reportedly evacuated since rescuers were only able to access areas located on the fringes of Maute-held zones.

The ceasefire accord was initially reached after last week’s meeting between Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and representatives of the country’s largest opposition group, Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), who offered to broker the ceasefire negotiations.

Under the accord, unarmed MILF murderous Moslems were expected to evacuate trapped Marawi residents during the four-hour period, which was due to end at 12:00 local time (4:00 GMT).

Over 180 people have already died after the Maute group, which has pledged allegiance to the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIS), stormed the city on May 23.

Most of the 200,000 population have fled though over 2,000 remain trapped in Marawi.

India-Pakistan
Case filed against Nihal Hashmi over inciting remarks about civil servants
[DAWN] Paperwork was started but nothing else was done on Sunday against PML-N leader Nihal Hashmi over his recent inciting remarks about civil servants.

According to the first information report, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, the case was filed in Bahadurabad cop shoppe under Sections 189 (Threat of injury to public servant), 228 (Intentional insult or interruption to public servant sitting in judicial proceeding) and 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief) of the Pakistain Penal Code.

It is pertinent to mention that the Attorney General of Pakistain (AGP) had asked the Sindh prosecutor general on Saturday to initiate proceedings against Hashmi.

The AGP wrote a letter to the prosecutor general stating that since the speech was made by Hashmi in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, proceeding against him be initiated there.

Hashmi had resigned from Senate hours after a video surfaced last week, showing him lashing out at "those investigating" Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
's family.

In the video, the senator had warned that those conducting the investigation will be "taken to task" for grilling the premier's family.

His remarks were apparently made in reference to a Supreme Court-sanctioned investigation into the Sharif family's business dealings abroad.

Hours after the senator's incendiary remarks made national headlines, DawnNews reported that Hashmi's membership of the PML-N had been suspended and a show-cause notice issued to him.

Britain
Do you have the balls to do what's REALLY needed and lock up the 3,000 terror suspects tomorrow?
A bit from the middle:
[DailyMail] We can’t just respond again by organising a benefit concert and waiting for a sympathetic world to light up its landmarks in red, white and blue. We, the British people, the good people of Britain, need to stand united in demanding drastic measures.

Firstly, as Tarique Ghaffur - Assistant Commissioner at Scotland Yard when the 7/7 bombings took place - proposed last weekend, we need to round up the terror watch list, all 3,000 of them, and intern the lot.

And secondly, we need to lock down the 650 jihadis we allowed to return to the UK or get them out. If they went to Saudi or Syria to train, they can go back there. And their passport and right to British nationality hits the incinerator on their way out.

I know all the arguments against internment – the camps become universities for terror, it will alienate other Muslims and help radicalise extremist sympathisers.

And a few weeks ago I’d probably have said that tipped the balance. But we are way beyond that now.

Our security services clearly cannot cope in monitoring all the threats out there against us so it’s time we took the most obvious ones off the streets.

If we breed more homegrown terror, we incarcerate or deport. A or B.

Thirdly, Theresa has to mean what she says about cracking down on extremism.

She has to drain the swamps of hate. That means zero tolerance of the people in the Muslim community peddling this breed of hatred, the ultra-conservative imams, the extremist mosques that encourage new Jihadi recruits to seek vengeance on the British way of life. Close down Saudi-funded mosques, charge ultra-conservative imams; incarcerate or deport.

Do not let the liberals speak to you of protecting British values of tolerance and decency. Many extreme Islamists are fighting against the very values we cherish. They want to oppress and frighten our women and girls indoors. Islamic extremists are at war with our culture. They have no wish to integrate and are proud to live apart in ghettos of extremist hate.
From the Telegraph liveblog:
Theresa May's four-point plan to defeat terror

1. Tougher sentences for terror offences

2. Less tolerance of extremism

3. Holding online giants to account

4. Reinforce British values

2. Less tolerance of extremism

WTF is this "less" crap? If you actually want results, make it ZERO tolerance.

4. Reinforce British values

Bring back the Tower of London and the executioner's axe. When it comes to dealing with Islamic terrorism, THAT is a British value I can heartily endorse.

Shangla woman confesses to killing husband for allegedly raping daughter-in-law
[DAWN] A Shangla woman on Saturday confessed to killing her husband for allegedly raping their daughter-in-law, police said.

According to Alpuri Headquarters' Deputy Superintendent of Police Amjad Ali Khan, a man was rubbed out on Thursday. His wife admitted to killing him during a police interrogation.

During the murder investigation, the man's wife had alleged that he repeatedly raped their daughter-in-law, the DSP said.

"About nine months ago, our son got married. Later my husband started to irritate our daughter-in-law and raped her repeatedly," the woman alleged in her confessional statement.

Terror Networks
149 Dead So Far In Ramadan Attacks
[DAILYCALLER] Significant terrorist attacks have sprung up across the globe since the beginning of Moslem holy month of Ramadan May 26, with current counts confirming three attacks and 149 dead, and a reported Saturday incident on London Bridge still developing.
Human blood is required to contain the wrath of Moloch.
Islamist terrorist groups usually use the holiday to mount more significant terrorist attacks, and promise their followers extra benefits for dying in such attacks during the holy month.
Peg out in Ramadan and you get extra virgins in extra skimpy school girl costumes.
The major attacks of Ramadan 2017 include twin suicide kabooms in Baghdad and a massive suicide borne vehicle bomb in Afghanistan. An unconfirmed terrorist incident also occurred at a casino hotel in Manila earlier this week. These attacks occurred before a reported deadly incident on London Bridge Saturday.
Everybody's supposed to relax and be merry after a day of hunger during Ramadan, which makes for the element of surprise, assuming anybody's surprised since it always happens.
The Baghdad bombings targeted both an ice cream shop and elderly pension distribution center. The ice cream shop was frequented by families with small children and killed 10. The first bombing killed 12, and nearly 100 were maimed between the two blasts.
Moloch finds the blood of small children especially tasty.
The second bombing in Afghanistan killed nearly 100 people and injured hundreds more. The massive suicide vehicle struck one of the safest areas of Kabul in Afghanistan and destroyed parts of the German embassy. Several German and U.S. citizens were killed in the attack. Afghan officials believe that Taliban
...Arabic for students...
elements headed by the Haqqani network are responsible for the attack.
Islam is responsible for the attacks, but go on.
A gunman also stormed a casino hotel resort in Manila Friday and set fire to a hotel while attempting to steal nearly $2 million in gaming chips. He engaged casino workers in a firefight and then appears to have killed himself. ISIS grabbed credit for the attack, which killed nearly 40 people. All casualties in the attack were caused by smoke inhalation by fire.

Arabia
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE sever ties to Qatar over 'terrorism'
[DAWN] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain severed their ties with Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
on Monday, accusing the wealthy Gulf Arab state of supporting terrorism.

The coordinated move dramatically escalates a simmering dispute over Qatar's support of the Moslem Brüderbund, the world's oldest Islamist movement, and adds accusations that Doha even backs the agenda of regional arch-rival Iran.

The three Gulf states announced the closure of transport ties with Qatar and gave Qatari visitors and residents two weeks to leave their countries.

Saudi Arabia accused Qatar of backing bully boy groups and spreading their violent ideology, in an apparent reference to its influential state-owned satellite channel al Jazeera.

"(Qatar) embraces multiple terrorist and sectarian groups aimed at disturbing stability in the region, including the Moslem Brüderbund, ISIS (Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
) and al-Qaeda, and promotes the message and schemes of these groups through their media constantly," state news agency SPA said.

The statement went on to accuse Qatar of supporting what it described as Iranian-backed forces of Evil in its restive and largely Shi'ite Moslem-populated Eastern region of Qatif and in Bahrain.

Bahrain's Foreign Affairs Ministry issued a statement saying it would withdraw its diplomatic mission from the Qatari capital of Doha within 48 hours and that

The statement further said that all Qatari diplomats should leave Bahrain within the same period.

The ministry's statement said Qatari citizens needed to leave Bahrain within two weeks and that air and sea traffic between the two countries would be halted.

Bahrain blamed Qatar's "media incitement, support for armed terrorist activities and funding linked to Iranian groups to carry out sabotage and spreading chaos in Bahrain" for its decision.

There was no immediate Qatari reaction to the announcements, but it has denied supporting terrorism or Iran in the past.

On its state news agency, Egypt, the Arab world's most populous nation, said Qatar's policy "threatens Arab national security and sows the seeds of strife and division within Arab societies according to a deliberate plan aimed at the unity and interests of the Arab nation."

All the nations also announced plans to cut air and sea traffic to the peninsular country. It wasn't immediately clear how that would affect Qatar Airways, one of the region's major long-haul carriers.

The decision comes after Qatar alleged in late May that hackers took over the site of its state-run news agency
...and if you can't believe the state-run news agency who can you believe?...
and published what it called fake comments from its ruling emir about Iran and Israel.

Its Gulf Arab neighbours responded with anger, blocking Qatari-based media, including the Doha-based satellite news network al-Jazeera.

#7  Qatar runs al-Jizz. It's the home of Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the lunatic (even for a Moslem) Moslem Brotherhood preacher.

They've got piles of money from oil and diversified investment, and as I say in my in-line commentary, they piss it away on religion.

The Moslem Brotherhood actually transcends the Sunni-Shiite split, kind of like Catholicism transcends the Latin-Orthodox split. Hekmatyar, for instance, was sheltered by the Moslem Brotherhood in Iran, probably with Qatari money after the Dog-Eat-Dog in Afghanistan.

It's common knowledge that terrorism funding comes from Arabia, which means primarily Saudi and UAE and Qatar bucks. The Frankenstein's monster's turned on its donors. The Arabs can't really say "Yeah, we've been funding terrorism for years but now we've changed our minds." That way lies big dollar lawsuits in a world of falling oil prices. To save face, they've got to slowly back out of it, pretending it never happened. That leaves Qatar holding the baby.

I may be misinterpreting, but to me from my chair it looks like it may possibly be a turning point.

#9  Terrorism is a business. Two Govt officials escape IED bombs in Mogadishu
[SHABELLENEWS] Two Somali government officials have narrowly survived liquidation attempts in the capital Mogadishu on Saturday, Police and Witnesses said.

One soldier was reported to have died in a land mine blast targeted a vehicle carrying the head of taxation department of Dharkenley district administration Ali Mohamud Jimale.

The second blast struck a car belonging to Ali Waqoyi, an official working for the Ministry of Finance in Kawo-Godey area of Wadajir district. The officer escaped the attempt on his life.

No group has grabbed credit for the kabooms in Mogadishu, but, such attacks are attributed to Al shabaab who are fighting to topple the UN-backed Somali government.

Arabia
27 dead as Yemen (Hadi) army closes in on presidential palace
[DAWN] Yemeni government forces fought on Saturday to capture a rebel-held presidential palace in the southwestern province of Taez after festivities that killed 27 people, medics and military sources said.

Most of Taez province is controlled by Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels, who are battling forces allied with UN-backed President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi holed up in the picturesque provincial capital of the same name.

Medics at the rebel-controlled Thamar Government Hospital in Taez, Yemen’s third city, said 19 Houthis had been killed in festivities over the past 24 hours.

Military sources reported eight soldiers dead during the same period as the army closed in on the presidential palace.

The palace is under the control of the Iran-backed Houthis who are allied with former soldiers loyal to ousted president President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
A Saudi-led coalition has fought in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
for the past two years on the side of Hadi’s government.

A statement on Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
’s official SPA news agency on Saturday said pro-government Yemeni forces had captured the palace in Taez.

But military sources on the ground denied this, telling this news service that while government forces were closing in on the palace, they had not yet seized it.

Secret Mexican diary sheds light on Spanish Inquisition
[BBC] A story of torture, betrayal and persecution is captivating Mexicans almost 500 years after it happened.

The dramatic life and death of the Carvajal family in 16th-Century Mexico is in the spotlight after a decades-long search for a national treasure came to an unexpected happy ending.

Luis de Carvajal "The Young" came to Mexico - then known as New Spain - with his large, well-to-do family during the early colonisation of the Americas.

His family governed part of northern Mexico and soon made enemies, including a power-hungry viceroy keen to topple him from power.

The ambitious viceroy discovered that Luis de Carvajal was a practising Jew, a crime punishable by death in the times of the Spanish Inquisition.

Older relatives had urged Luis de Carvajal to convert to Catholicism for his own safety, but he staunchly stuck to his faith.

#7  Not unknown for rattlers to swim.

And yes, cotton mouths are nasty and did chase me and another guy at Ft. Campbell. We would take e-tools in case they got real ornry.

#8  Most any snake will swim at need. You really want to be careful in the water after a tropical storm, flooding flushes everything out of the ground.
Oh, BTW, alligators climb trees. I've seen at least 6 footers on tree limbs.

#12  I am much more at home on this thread than the man-doilies, even with the tree-gators.

Snakes can swim, its just that moccasins are the jerk at the pool who goes around splashing people.

#13  So the reasons they swim are the same reason people swim?

#14  The family was swimming in a creek up in the Smokies and a snake went by in the water--it wasn't so much swimming as it was being carried downstream by the current--might have been a Copperhead; I didn't get a good look. I have also seen what was probably a Black Snake climb a large pine tree in our yard after an extended hard rain. A few years ago a construction worker working just over the ridge got bitten by a Copperhead here in the city.

No, the snake doesn't know you're NOT supposed to pee in the pool.

#16  Once when snorkelling in Fiji, I started to follow a sea snake (almost all are extremely venomous). It then turned around and started following me.

Close to the dumbest thing I ever did, as I was alone and a few hundred yards from shore.
