Kim "just a regular guy"
sez Space Alien Dennis Rodman. A few choice insights:
With the free world on eggshells over North Korea's nukes, Dennis Rodman insists in a new interview that his "little guy" pal Kim Jong Un is "just like anybody else," and even told him, "I don't want to bomb anyone."

He adds that the kooky, missile-parading despot loves the US so much he listens to the "Rocky" and "Dallas" theme songs for hours on end. "When he's around his people, he's just like anybody else," he adds of Kim.
"except for the AA and mortar executions and shit..."
"He jokes and loves playing basketball, table tennis, pool. They love American '80s music. They do karaoke . . . He has this 13-piece girls' band with violins . . . He loves the Doors and Jimi Hendrix . . . When I first went, the live band only played two songs for four hours: the theme songs from ‘Rocky' and ‘Dallas.'"
Doesn't get more fun than that
"When I first went there it was so . . . communist. Dry and dreary . . . like ‘The Walking Dead.' But the third time I went there, wow. [Pyongyang] changed a lot . . . [Kim] is building all these new condos and hotels. He built the largest slave labor camps and water park in the world, a ski resort and this big bowling alley."
"The malnutrition, executions, and oppression are sooo over-hyped"

Trump's (2nd) pick for Secretary of Army withdraws from consideration
The LGBT SJW's, Rino's and Dems nix another
President Donald Trump's choice for Army secretary announced Friday that he is withdrawing his name from consideration.

"It is with deep regret today I am withdrawing my nomination to be the Secretary of the Army," Mark Green said in a statement.

The decision by Green, Trump's second pick for the post, came after his nomination ran into trouble following a backlash after past controversial statements on LGBT issues, Islam and evolution were revealed.

Green explained his decision to pull out from a military leadership position in the wake of this controversy.

"To meet these challenges, there should be no distractions. And unfortunately due to false and misleading attacks against me, this nomination has become a distraction," he said in his statement.

"Tragically, my life of public service and my Christian beliefs have been mischaracterized and attacked by a few on the other side of the aisle for political gain," he continued. "While these false attacks have no bearing on the needs of the Army or my qualifications to serve, I believe it is critical to give the President the ability to move forward with his vision to restore our military to its rightful place in the world."

Both the White House and Pentagon had told reporters earlier Friday there was nothing to announce regarding Green's nomination.

Green, a retired Army flight surgeon and West Point grad, was tapped in early April as Trump's pick after billionaire Vincent Viola withdrew over issues related to divesting from his financial holdings.Green, currently a state senator in Tennessee, faced rising opposition from LGBT activists and Democrats for his past comments about transgender people.
"Aha!" moment
In 2016, Green told a tea party group, "if you poll the psychiatrists, they're going to tell you that transgender is a disease." In 2013, Green blasted President Barack Obama for supporting what he said were "'transvestites in uniform."

Green, who is a former Army doctor, is also a self-identified "creationist" who has delivered a lecture arguing against the theory of evolution.
and that makes him unfit how?
Green had defended himself from criticism in a Facebook post last week, writing that the "liberal left has cut and spliced my words about terrorism and ISIS, blatantly falsifying what I've said."

Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham and John McCain have also expressed concern over Green's past comments.

French media ordered by electoral commission not to publish content of hacked Macron messages
Hiding the info to get him elected
[Independent] France's electoral commission has ordered media not to publish contents of Emmanuel Macron's leaked campaign emails to avoid influencing the election.

It warned news outlets in France that journalists could face criminal charges for publishing or republishing the material, under laws that came into effect at midnight forbidding any commentary liable to affect the presidential race.

There were fears the hack could swing Sunday's final vote, where Mr Macron was expected to comfortably beat far-right candidate Marine Le Pen.As much as 9GB gigabytes of data were posted on a profile called EMLEAKS to an anonymous document sharing site under two days before the final vote.

While French election rules forbid the media from publishing the emails, they also ban Mr Macron or his team from commenting on or denying any allegations.

His En Marche! party said it had "been the victim of a massive and coordinated hack" on Friday evening, adding that it had "given rise to the diffusion on social media of various internal information".

A spokesperson said the communications only showed the normal functioning of a presidential campaign, but that authentic documents had been mixed on social media with fake ones to sow "doubt and misinformation".
Hiding his bizniss in Cayman islands, not Bahamas as he denies. Wait til he gets elected then the dirty shit can become public knowledge. That'll CERTAINLY make him legitimate /s

Senator says FBI paid $900K for iPhone hacking tool
[ABC] Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate committee that oversees the FBI, said publicly this week that the government paid $900,000 to break into the locked iPhone of a gunman in the San Bernardino, California, shootings.
That would be the December 3rd, 2015 gun and bomb attack workplace incident by Syed Farook, also known as Syed Rizwan Farook, and Tashfeen Malik on his office Christmas party. Mr. Farook was an American-born Punjabi-American, so naturally he went back to the old country for a suitable wife -- she was working on her PhD in pharmaceutical science and was connected to Lal Masjid, the notorious Red Mosque in Islamabad that in 2015 was connected to ISIS, making her just the one for him. They were known wolves connected to the extremist scene in California and on social media to Al Nusra and Al Shabaab...
The FBI considers the figure to be classified information. It also has protected the identity of the vendor it paid to do the work. Both pieces of information are the subject of a federal lawsuit by The Associated Press and other news organizations that have sued to force the FBI to reveal them.

An FBI spokeswoman declined to comment Friday.

Feinstein cited the amount while questioning FBI Director James Comey at a Senate Judiciary Committee oversight hearing Wednesday.

"I was so struck when San Bernardino happened and you made overtures to allow that device to be opened, and then the FBI had to spend $900,000 to hack it open," said Feinstein, D-Calif. "And as I subsequently learned of some of the reason for it, there were good reasons to get into that device."

Comey hinted at a ballpark range last year, saying the government paid more than he would earn in his remaining seven years on the job, an amount that would have been more than $1 million. He has called the sum "worth it."

Well, look at it this way - if the Gummint was working on one and it ever got out, that would be a sh!tstorm of near-Biblical proportions. The Bureau, on the other hand, probably thought like this: They knew perfectly well that there were tools out there to do whatever they needed, when they needed them they could buy them or contract them, and then they could stand up and say "We didn't have one when we needed it, so now we're going to keep hold of this."

#7  What was the right way?

When Apple revealed their corporate entity was bigger than Patriotic America, or that they didn't know how to unlock the device either, it became time for extraordinary measures.

We found the G. had no balls to force Apple, but they had a fat checkbook. The apparent solution is proprietary, the Feds can now crack Apple HDWR encryption (and perhaps others), covert international partners may now also have the capability and the FBI now has a math skunkworks outside the normal government channels that is free from oversight inspection and exposure(for a while).

I think they did pretty good. I wonder that Apple as an commercial entity shouldn't be considered a foreign sympathizer subject to audit and tariffs.

#8  I am losing confidence in the FBI. If they can't investigate the NSA enough to appropriate NSA's iPhone hacking tools then they have no insight at all into what is really going on.

Jean-Claude Juncker: ‘English is losing importance'
Jean-Claude Juncker, the European Commission president,
yeah, that was a real nail biter of an election
opted to deliver a speech in French on Friday morning because he said "English is losing importance" in Europe.
It's quickly being replaced by Austrian. Or Hebrew. Or just possibly Arabic.
He gave the comments, which are unlikely to mend fences after a war of words between Brussels and London over Brexit negotiations, at the "State of the Union" conference in Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio -- an annual event for European dignitaries.
*spit*
Juncker said he was opting for French because "slowly but surely English is losing importance in Europe and France has elections this Sunday and I want the French people to understand what I am saying about the importance of the EU."
And I will also speak loudly and use small words.
In Florence, Juncker said, "[Brexit] is no small event. Of course we will negotiate with our British friends in full transparency. But there should be no doubt whatsoever about the idea that it is the EU that is abandoning the U.K. It is the opposite in fact. It is the U.K. that is abandoning the EU."
I think "full transparency" means "the heathen Brits are going to leak everything we say."

TSA Warns Trucking Companies of 'Truck-Ramming' Terrorism Threat
[Townhall] Due to increasing incidences of "truck-ramming" attacks, the Transportation Security Agency has sent a warning to the trucking companies of the nation.

TSA dispersed a 6-page report detailing the recent incidences and warning truck and bus companies that terrorists may try to hijack their trucks to employ in deadly attacks. The report outlined 17 "truck-ramming" incidences since 2014, which have killed nearly 170 people worldwide.

The Nice, France attack was specifically mentioned, as 85 were killed in the tragic attack on Bastille day. There has only been one instance in the U.S., in 2016 when a car drove into a crowd at Ohio State University and injured 11 people.

CBS News obtained a copy of the report and detailed some of TSA's important messages to companies, and even the general public.
"The report suggests drivers and staff who remain alert to potential threats and report suspicious activities to appropriate authorities are the most effective means of detecting acts of terrorism by a commercial vehicle.

The report also states that no community, large or small, rural or urban, is immune to attacks of this kind by organized or "lone wolf" terrorists. TSA recommends that the trucking and bus industries take an active role in protecting their businesses and communities from this potential threat."

"These low-tech methods of attack are becoming more commonplace around the globe," CNN reported on a TSA statement.

Many terrorist operatives have advocated for employing vehicles to kill in the name of Allah, according to an analysis CNN released on the terror tactic.

FBI report finds officers ‘de-policing' as anti-cop hostility becomes ‘new norm'
Meter just came back from the shop.

[WashingtonTimes] An unclassified FBI study on last year’s cop-killing spree found officers are "de-policing" amid concerns that anti-police defiance fueled in part by movements like Black Lives Matter has become the "new norm."

"Departments -- and individual officers -- have increasingly made the decision to stop engaging in proactive policing," said the report by the FBI Office of Partner Engagement obtained by The Washington Times.

Here we go again
[Jpost] A suburban Dallas police officer was charged with murder on Friday for shooting a rifle into a car of unarmed teenagers driving away from him, killing a 15-year-old boy, a lawyer for the child's family said, after the incident sparked national outrage.

A judge signed the murder warrant for former Balch Springs police officer Roy Oliver, the Dallas Morning News reported, citing law enforcement sources. Family lawyer S. Lee Merritt did not provide further details.

...Jordan Edwards, a black high school student described by family and friends as a stand-out student and athlete, was struck by a bullet to the head on Saturday and died. Two of his brothers were in the car with him and watched him die, Merritt has said.

The killing that took place in a primarily black and Hispanic neighborhood stoked simmering tensions of perceived racial bias in US policing.

Oliver, 37, has not been taken into custody, the Dallas Morning News said.
Prior to being a police officer, Oliver enlisted in the Army from March 2004- March 2010
Oliver was sworn in to the Balch Springs Police Department on July 25, 2011 after passing the Peace Officer Licensing exam with a score of 90

Afghanistan
Clash among Afghan and Pakistani forces in Spin Boldak
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A clash broke out between the Afghan and Pak security forces in Spin Boldak near the Durand Line earlier this morning.

According to the local officials in Kandahar, the clash started around 3 am local time as the Pak militia forces were trying to conduct census work.

Provincial governor’s front man Samim Khpolwak confirmed the incident and said the militia forces of Pakistain had started census work in Loqman village which belongs to Spin Boldak district of Kandahar.

He said the Afghan cops prevented the Pak militia forces to do census work inside the Afghan soil which resulted into clash.

Khpolwak further added that the festivities continued for several hours and the two sides have sustained casualties but did not disclose the exact number.

In the meantime, the provincial security commandment in Kandarhar said additional border protection forces have been deployed in the area.

On the other hand the Pak authorities are claiming that a child was killed and 18 others were maimed during the clash.

The officials are saying that the Afghan cops used light and heavy weapon and the Pak forces responded to the fire.

Seems like an odd hour for census taking.

Ferguson Molotov Cocktail Protester Edward Crawford Tango Uniform
[NBC] Edward Crawford, a St. Louis resident who was the subject of an iconic photo epitomizing the 2014 protests in Ferguson, Missouri, is dead.

Crawford was photographed throwing a flaming tear gas canister in an image broadcast widely during the months of unrest that followed the fatal shooting of Michael Brown Jr. by a police officer.

His death was confirmed to NBC News by the St. Louis Office of the Medical Examiner. Investigator Rose Psara said Crawford was pronounced deceased shortly before midnight on Thursday at 1435 Salisbury Street in the Hyde Park neighborhood.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department told NBC News that Crawford shot himself in the backseat of a car while it was moving, according to two witnesses who were seated in the front of the car.

"The victim began expressing he was distraught over personal matters to the witnesses," said the police department's Public Information Officer Leah Freeman. "The witnesses heard the victim rummaging in the backseat, then heard a gunshot and observed the victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the head."

Crawford was pronounced dead on the scene. Police said an investigation is ongoing and, while initially declared a suicide, the official cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.

Komodo dragon attacks tourist taking photograph
[SCMP] A Komodo dragon attacked a tourist in Indonesia who was trying to photograph the giant creatures eating a goat. Singaporean Loh Lee Aik, 67, was rushed to hospital with leg injuries after being pounced on by the venomous creature. "He was probably very excited taking pictures of the dragon, he didn’t realise another dragon was approaching him and then he was bitten," said local police front man Jules Abraham Abast. "Luckily it was a small dragon that bit him."

What next? The attack happened during the dragons’ mating season, which runs from May to August and is a time when the lizards are more aggressive. Abast said Loh failed to report his visit to authorities or take a park ranger with him, something visitors are advised to do. Thirty people have been bitten by Komodo dragons since 1974, with five of the victims dying, according to Komodo National Park authorities. Recent research has found that the dragons’ jaws have highly sophisticated venom glands that can cause paralysis, spasms and shock through haemorrhaging. They can grow up to three metres long and weigh up to 70kg.

Susan Rice's White House Unmasking: A Watergate-style Scandal
[The National Review] The thing to bear in mind is that the White House does not do investigations. Not criminal investigations, not intelligence investigations. Remember that.

Why is that so important in the context of explosive revelations that Susan Rice, President Obama’s national-security adviser, confidant, and chief dissembler, called for the “unmasking” of Trump campaign and transition officials whose identities and communications were captured in the collection of U.S. intelligence on foreign targets?

Because we’ve been told for weeks that any unmasking of people in Trump’s circle that may have occurred had two innocent explanations: (1) the FBI’s investigation of Russian meddling in the election and (2) the need to know, for purposes of understanding the communications of foreign intelligence targets, the identities of Americans incidentally intercepted or mentioned. The unmasking, Obama apologists insist, had nothing to do with targeting Trump or his people.

3. Anything Trump does is criminal, impeachable and flat-out wrong even if Obama did it previously.

Rand Paul requests info on whether Obama surveilled him
[THEHILL] Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) says he has asked the intelligence community and White House for any evidence that he was surveilled by former President Barack Obama
That’s just how white folks will do you....
"I have formally requested from the WH and the Intel Committees info on whether I was surveilled by Obama admin and or the Intel community!" Paul tweeted Friday.

The tweet appears to build off of President Trump's claim, presented without evidence, that the B.O. regime wiretapped Trump Tower during last year's presidential race.

FBI Director James Comey has flatly denied any direct surveillance of the Trump campaign.

Paul tweeted about his request for information in the context of both Trump's allegations of deliberate surveillance and a recent NSA report stating that the NSA abided by nearly 2,000 requests to unmask names in 2016.

Energy Firms Dive in Asia after Oil Collapse
[An Nahar] Oil prices extended the previous day's sharp losses on Friday, dragging energy firms and Asian markets with them as investors are snaggled by fresh global supply glut concerns.

While traders are looking ahead to the release of crucial US jobs data later in the day, the collapse in crude prices has dented optimism on trading floors, with analysts warning about the possible effects on the economy.

Both main contracts tumbled around two percent in Asia -- following losses of almost five percent Thursday -- on fears about increased production from the US, Libya and Nigeria and the OPEC cartel's commitment to extending an output cut beyond a six-month agreement.

Renewed weakness in China, an expected hike in US interest rates -- which could make dollar-denominated oil more expensive to holders of other currencies -- and signs of slowing demand have also contributed to the dive.

"OPEC has been looking down the barrel so to speak, of resurgent supply from Nigeria and Libya amongst OPEC and of course, American shale which combined have completely offset the 1.8 million barrel per day production cut agreement," said Jeffrey Halley, senior market analyst at OANDA, in a note.

Russia Says It Stopped Bombing Proposed Syria Safe Zones May 1
[An Nahar] Russia on Friday said it had already stopped bombing in areas of Syria set to be designated safe zones under an agreement it inked with Iran and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
The three key powerbrokers signed off on a Russian plan Thursday to establish four "de-escalation zones" in rebel-held territory of the war-torn country in a bid to shore up a shaky ceasefire.

Under the pact -- which Moscow said comes into force from Saturday -- the three sides have a month to define the exact borders of the safe zones where fighting and air strikes should be halted.

Moscow -- which is flying an air campaign in support of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
One of the last of the old-fashioned hereditary iron-fisted fascist dictators...
-- said that in order to ease the deal it has stopped bombing the proposed zones.

"From 00:00 May 1 the use of Russian airforce aviation in areas corresponding to the de-escalation zones was halted," senior Russian military commander Sergei Rudskoi told a news briefing.

The safety zone initiative is the latest attempt by Moscow to forge an end to the six-year conflict after its military might turned the tide of the conflict in favor of Assad.

Rudskoi outlined the proposed zones in the northwestern Idlib province, the north of central Homs province, Eastern Ghouta near Damascus and an area of the south involving Daraa and Quneitra provinces.

Misrata militants and Khalifa Ghwell scorn Hafter-Serraj summit
[Libya Herald] A group of hardline Misratan militias have lambasted the Khalifa Hafter-Faiez Serraj Abu Dhabi meeting, vowing to "crush" the UN-backed government as a result.

"If the world wants fair elections, it must remove the criminals," a statement signed by some dozen militias calling themselves the Misratan Revolutionaries Operations Room in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
The group is attached to the holy warriors, led by Misrata military council and its head Ibrahim Ben Rajeb, who for many weeks have been trying to bring down the municipal council and who in their latest move broke into a meeting chaired by Misrata mayor Mohammed Eshtewi and forced him to sign a letter of resignation, although he later retracted this.

In their statement, the group, which does not represent mainstream forces in the city, said it would "purify" Misrata of its municipal council.

It also threatened militias in Tripoli allied to the Presidency Council, including those led by Haitham Tajouri, Hashim Bishr, and Ghneiwa.

"We are ready to clear the capital of them," the militias declared.

In March, the mainly-Misratan forces supporting the would-be alternative "Government of National Salvation" (GNS) of Khalifa Ghwell were beaten by the local Tripolitan militias and forced out of the capital. These latter, now known as "the Quartet" (being Bishr, Ghneiwa, Tajouri and Abdul Raouf Kara), now effectively control the city along with their allies.

The Misratan statement follows a similar one from the GNS and its leader Khalifa Ghwell. It described Hafter as a "retired military citizen who does not have any political status" and Serraj as someone "who does not have a legal status".

It also said the apparent agreements between Hafter and Serraj merely offered the military the chance to control Libya’s resources and bring "tyranny" to the country.

Mob attacks two men transporting cows near Noida
[The Hindu] Two contract workers were attacked by alleged right-wing goons while transporting cows in Jewar here on Thursday.

The victims were identified as Jaibeer Singh (33) and Bhoop Singh (45), residents of Sirsa Manjhipur.

The incident happened when the duo was returning from Mehndipur after buying a cow and a calf. They got tired on the way and sat down under a tree.

"Some people spotted them and suspected them to be Moslems. They called some more people, who attacked them without any questions," said Mr. Jaibeer Singh’s cousin, Fateh Singh.

He added that the accused kept thrashing the two even though they told them that they were Hindus and were transporting the animals for personal use. Both the victims received internal injuries and fractures in shoulder and ribs.

Locals informed their families about the incident, after which they approached the police.

"The police lodged an FIR into the matter only after a lot of pressure," Mr. Fateh Singh alleged.

Jewar cop shoppe in-charge Ajay Kumar Sharma said an FIR had been registered against Mahesh, Ashish, Ompal and five others under Sections 147, 323, 504 and 506 of the IPC.

"The accused fled from the spot after the incident. We are looking for them," he said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, the pilot and the copilot had both hit the silk.

Jack! Cynthia exclaimed. Do you know how to drive one of these things?

Jack wiped some of the blood from his knuckles.

No, he said. Do you?...

the incident has triggered tension in the area. Locals have demanded stringent action against right-wing goons for beating innocent people in the name of cow protection.

Gautam Budh Nagar Senior Superintendent of Police and District Magistrate have ordered the police personnel concerned to pacify the people and arrest the accused soon.

Clashes broke out between the YPG and ISIS after the latter attacked the Jibisa gas facility near Shaddadi.

"ISIS jihadists attacked a YPG checkpoint in Jibisa with mortar shells. The Kurdish fighters responded by bombing ISIS positions near Margada‐south of Shaddadi," YPG officer Habun Osman told ARA News.

After nearly three hours of festivities, the YPG forced ISIS holy warriors to withdraw towards their stronghold of Margada town.

Margada is the Islamic State’s last stronghold in Hasakah Governorate. It is located on the administrative border between Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor Governorates.

Iraq Denies Deal with US on Keeping Troops after ISIL
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] The Iraqi government has denied reports in the local and international media that it has signed a deal with the United States that would allow US forces to stay in Iraq after the defeat of ISIS group in the country.

"We emphasize that there are no combat forces from any country on the Iraqi territories in the first place so that we can discuss [whether] they can stay or not," said a statement from Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi’s office Friday morning.

The government denies having any deals with any foreign country on keeping troops in Iraq post ISIS.

"The Iraqi government did not reach a deal with any country in relations to its military role with Iraq for the stage after the decisive victory over terrorism," the Iraqi government added.

Baghdad said it has its own plans and strategies to face future challenges by advancing the Iraqi army through training and arming its forces.

Deadly clashes in Sebha over car robbery
[Libya Herald] Sebha is tense today after gangland fighting yesterday supposedly between members of the Awlad Sulaiman and Mahamid tribes left a number of them dead. Estimates vary between six and 15 dead, however, the mayor of Sebha, Rafeh Hamed, has said that officials are not "not yet sure" about the exactly number.

The maimed are put at 12.

The trouble started when a gang of Mahamid gunnies tried to steal a car belonging to a member of the Awlad Sulaiman tribe, Yahia Aswaidat al-Sulaimani, while he was heading to the Fajr (dawn) prayers. He resisted and was rubbed out.

Members of the Awlad Sulaiman, intent on Dire Revenge, then went to the area in the town known as Camp 80, near the Manshia neighbourhood and attacked members of the Mahamid tribe based.

Clashes are reportedly still ongoing despite attempts by elders from other tribes to mediate a peace. Mayor Hamed has effectively confirmed this, saying that the situation was still "not resolved".

However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
he also said that the festivities had nothing to do with the two tribes, that those involved were simply gangland criminals and most of them from other countries Libya. Only two of the dead were known to be Libyans, he claimed.

The district known as Camp 80 is inhabited largely by people from Chad and Niger, but many of them were in fact originally from Libya who returned, following a call from Qadaffy, and settled in what was then a camp in 1980 ‐ thus the name. It became overcrowded, squalid and poor but was re-laid out, with new roads and buildings, in the years immediately before the revolution.

Twitter, Bloomberg Team Up for Streaming News Channel
[An Nahar] Twitter is launching a 24-hour streaming news channel in partnership with the Bloomberg Media, in a major expansion of the social media firm's video operations, the two firms announced Monday.

The new streaming channel "will combine the vast global editorial and newsgathering capabilities of Bloomberg with the digital power of Twitter," a joint statement.

Michael Nanny Bloomberg, the founder of the financial news and information service and a former New York mayor, joined Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey at a New York media conference to make the announcement.

The streaming channel set to launch later this year will include user-generated content from Twitter which will be verified by Bloomberg editors, along with live video reporting from journalists at the news organization.

"Today's global news consumer wants and needs more than what's currently available," said Justin Smith, CEO of Bloomberg Media, in a statement.

"With this new network, we are setting out to reinvent the digital breaking news experience."

Smith told The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the tie-up, that the new network would "be focused on the most important news for an intelligent audience around the globe and it's going to be broader in focus than our existing network."

Twitter chief operating officer Anthony Noto said in a statement, "Twitter's speed and vast global network of content and commentary combined with the high quality, editorial rigor of Bloomberg is a unique and powerful combination."

Financial details of the new venture were not disclosed.

Twitter shares jumped 6.4 percent on the news to close at $17.53, the highest since February.

The service could help Twitter expand its user base, which has been growing at a slower pace than its social media rivals.

Twitter has been seeking to broaden its appeal beyond its core user base of celebrities, politicians and journalists, ramping up efforts in video and live sports.

But in its quarterly results last week, Twitter reported a drop in revenue, despite boosting its monthly user base to 328 million, up 14 percent from a year ago.

Pentagon says U.S. Military member killed in Somalia
[SHABELLENEWS] A U.S. service member has been killed in Somalia in an operation against the hard boy group al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
, the U.S. military said Friday.

The U.S. Africa Command says the service member was killed Thursday near Barii, about 40 miles west of the capital, Mogadishu. The statement says U.S. forces were conducting an advise-and-assist mission with Somalia’s military.

"U.S. forces are assisting partner forces to counter al-Shabaab in Somalia to degrade the al-Qaeda affiliate’s ability to recruit, train and plot external terror attacks throughout the region and in America," the U.S. Africa Command says in a statement.

CNN reports that the the service member was part of a Special Operations team and that two others were maimed in what it called a small arms attack.

President Trump approved an expanded military role there some two decades after the U.S. largely pulled out following the shootdown of two helicopters in Mogadishu. In the incident, the bodies of American service members were dragged through the streets.

Trump’s order of stepped up operations includes carrying out more aggressive air strikes against al-Shabaab and considering parts of southern Somalia areas of active, the News Agency that Dare Not be Named reports.

The U.S. Africa Command statement says it is supporting Somalia and its regional partners "to systematically dismantle this al Qaeda affiliate, and help them to achieve stability and security throughout the region as part of the global counterterrorism effort."

Florida university to award Trayvon Martin a posthumous honorary degree
[TampaBayTimes]. The private university announced Wednesday that Martin's parents, Sabrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, will accept a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical science with a concentration in flight education on behalf of their son.

The degree is in "honor of the steps he took during his young life toward becoming a pilot,"
Flying high on drugs, oh yeah. But you simply must read what Wikipedia says about the angelic young man now, dear Reader, in order to understand this apparently daft action.
the school said in a Facebook post. Florida Memorial's Department of Aviation and Safety has a designated Cessna pilot training center, and the school also houses the Trayvon Martin Foundation. It is based in Miami Gardens, where Trayvon Martin lived with his father.
I hear Delta may be hiring.
Per university on-line stats (which could not be copied w/o written permission), student diversity is '72.3% black or African American.' This might have something to do with the decision to award an honorary degree.

attack on an army post in the Lake Chad region on Friday, local and security sources told AFP.

Some 40 Boko Haram jihadists were also killed as the army responded to the attack on the Kaiga post, sources said on condition of anonymity. A military official confirmed the attack without giving a toll.

"Very early this morning, Boko Haram fighters attacked the Chadian army's position in Kaiga on Lake Chad. They were pushed back," Chadian army front man Colonel Azem said in a statement.

, Chad and Niger, Lake Chad has been the site of frequent Boko Haram attacks. Chad's army is based on the north bank, where four Chadian soldiers and several jihadist fighters were killed in skirmishes in late September.

Over the past two years, the jihadists have been chased out of most territories where they founded a hardline Islamic state in 2014. But despite being weakened, they continue to fight army forces and launch suicide kabooms.

IS Flag, Pledge Found in Car of French Military Base Suspect

and several of the group's flags in his car, sources close to the case said.

The pledge was on a computer flash drive discovered, along with the flags, in the ex-soldier's vehicle.

A shotgun and two vintage pistols were also discovered hidden near the base in Evreux, which is northwest of Gay Paree, the sources said.

The discovery comes two days before La Belle France votes in the presidential election run-off.

Police arrested the suspect early Friday after finding his car near the base. Gay Paree anti-terror prosecutors are investigating, but it is not clear why he was in the area.

The suspect, who was born in 1983, converted to Islam and has been under close surveillance since 2014 due to his radicalization.

The election campaign has been overshadowed by security worries.

Karim Cheurfi, a 39-year-old Frenchie, shot and killed a police officer and maimed two others on the Champs Elysees avenue days before the first round of voting, in an attack claimed by the Islamic State group. Cheurfi was killed by police gunfire.

Greenpeace activists on Friday pulled off a daring stunt in central Gay Paree, attaching a giant banner to the Eiffel Tower and leaving police to admit security "flaws" at a time when terror fears remain high.

Pakistain (TTP), who had earlier been tried by military courts, were executed on Thursday.

The three were involved in committing heinous offences, including killing of innocent civilians and attacking security personnel, the Inter-Services Public Relations said.

Several coppers and soldiers also bit the dust and a number of security personnel suffered injuries in separate attacks carried out by these men.

Those executed -- Hassan Dar, Umar Zada and Hazrat Ali -- had admitted to their involvement in these crimes before the magistrates.

It was not clear in which prisons were these convicts hanged. The punishment comes on the heels of four executions that took place on Wednesday.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan, and his wife, Maheen Zafar, are facing an inquiry for their alleged involvement in keeping juvenile housemaid Taiba in wrongful confinement, burning her hand over a missing broom, beating her with a ladle, detaining her in a storeroom, and threatening her with dire consequences.

Afghanistan
Afghan War Being Financed From Abroad: Hekmatyar
[Tolo News] In his second address to thousands of his supporters in Kabul, Hekmatyar once again urged all anti-government gangs to lay down arms and join peace.

The leader of Hizb-e-Islami, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
, in an address to thousands of his supporter in Ghazi Stadium in Kabul on Friday, recalled his recent remarks about gunnies and said the Afghan war is being financed from abroad.

Hekmatyar said there are good as well as bad elements among anti-government armed gunnies and that this fact should be accepted.

"We should pay attention to this and we should accept it as a fact that every group has good and bad [figures] amongst them. Government’s oppositions and supporters have good and bad [figures] amongst them," he stated.

Referring to the war in Afghanistan, Hekmatyar said: "We hate those who insist on continuing the war in Afghanistan ‐ the war which sacrifices only Afghans and the war that is being justified and financed from abroad."

The Hizb-e-Islami leader once again called on the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
to quit insurgency and join the grinding of the peace processor.

"Anyone who wants an end to the war, anyone who wants a just peace and a fully Islamic administration in Afghanistan, is our brother, and will be with us and we will jointly strive for this goal," he said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the saloon, Butch got the bill for the damage caused by the fist fight, the mirror broken in the shootout, and drinks for everyone......
Hekmatyar criticized the decision based on which the National Unity Government was formed, saying that he is in favor of a ’centralized’ government in Afghanistan.

The Hizb-e-Islami leader appeared among his supporters for the first time in 20 years in Laghman
...It has a population of about 445,600, which is multi-ethnic and mostly a rural society. During the invasions of Alexander the Great, the area was known as Lampaka, wich is apparently Olde Macedonian for Laghman. The city of Mihtarlam serves as the bucolic capital of the province. The population is half Pashtun, the remainder Tadjik and Pashai. It had a reputionagreat wealth until it was conquered in the tenth century by Abu Mansur Sabuktigin.
He conquered it and set fire to the places in its vicinity which were inhabited by infidels, and demolishing the idol-temples, he established Islam in them, He marched and captured other cities and killed the polluted wretches, destroying the idolatrous and gratifying the Musulmans. After wounding and killing beyond all measure, his hands and those of his friends became cold in counting the value of the plundered property.
province last week.

On Thursday, he arrived in Kabul with a caravan carrying dozens of gunnies.

At a welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Kabul on Thursday, Hekmatyar pointed out to many issues including peace with the Taliban where he called group as "brothers".

The peace delegations of Afghan government and Hizbe-e-Islami signed a peace deal in September last year. As part of this agreement, the first batch of the Hizb-e-Islami prisoners ‐ which included 55 inmates ‐ were released from Pul-e-Charkhi prison in Kabul.

China-Japan-Koreas
N. Korea Accuses CIA of Plot to Assassinate Kim Jong-Un
[An Nahar] North Korea on Friday accused the CIA of plotting with South Korea to assassinate leader Kim Jong-Un, amid soaring tensions in the flashpoint region.

The CIA and Seoul's Intelligence Services have "hatched a vicious plot" involving unspecified "biochemical substances" to kill the hermit state's young leader during public ceremonial events in Pyongyang, the Ministry of State Security said.

For the CIA "liquidation by use of biochemical substances including radioactive substance and nano poisonous substance is the best method that does not require access to the target, their lethal results will appear after six or twelve months," the Ministry said in a statement carried by state media.

The accusation comes as Pyongyang issues increasingly belligerent rhetoric in a tense stand off with the administration of US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
over its rogue weapons programme.

The war of words between the West and the reclusive regime has spiked in recent weeks, and Pyongyang has threatened to carry out a sixth nuclear test that would further inflame tensions.

The CIA and Seoul's Intelligence Services (IS) have "ideologically corrupted and bribed a DPRK citizen surnamed Kim" to carry out the attack on Jong-Un, the statement said.

"We will ferret out and mercilessly destroy to the last one the murderous Moslems of the US CIA and the puppet IS of South Korea," the statement said, adding that the plot was tantamount to "the declaration of a war".

"The heinous crime, which was recently uncovered and smashed in the DPRK, is a kind of terrorism against not only the DPRK but the justice and conscience of humankind and an act of mangling the future of humankind."

The statement did not give any information on how the plot was foiled or what happened to the alleged spy.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Two Palestinians carrying knives arrested during Hebron protest
[IsraelTimes] Protesters clash with IDF troops during demo in solidarity with Paleostinian prisoners on hunger strike; Barghouti calls to ’rise up against humiliation.

Two Paleostinians carrying knives were tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
by Israeli security forces on Friday in Hebron
...Hamas central in the West Bank...
during a protest that broke out near a checkpoint in the West Bank city.

The two were said to have approached a group of soldiers, raising their suspicions. They were searched and once the knives were found were taken in for questioning.

The protest was in solidarity with Paleostinian prisoners in Israeli jails currently on a hunger strike.

Elsewhere in the West Bank, three Paleostinians were maimed during festivities with Israeli troops near Nablus.

Paleostinians across the West Bank have been protesting in recent weeks in support of the mass Paleostinian hunger strike, launched by convicted terrorist and popular Paleostinian figure Marwan Barghouti, who is serving five life terms for orchestrating deadly attacks.

Paleostinian officials say some 1,500 security prisoners are participating in the hunger strike that began on April 17, with detainees ingesting only water and salt in protest of their conditions. It is unclear how many have been on strike for the full period as some of the original participants have since pulled out while others appeared to have joined.

Israel Prison Service front man Assaf Librati said earlier this week that 870 prisoners are still refusing to eat.

Barghouti is popular among Paleostinians, with polls suggesting he could win the Paleostinian presidency. Many Israeli and Paleostinian analysts have speculated that Barghouti organized the strike in a bid to boost his declining power in Paleostinian politics.

Over the past three weeks, support for the hunger strike has gained momentum, with West Bank marches, strikes and backing on Paleostinian social media.

Among the demands made by Barghouti and fellow prisoners are the resumption of a second monthly visit by family members (a benefit that was canceled by the International Committee of the Red Thingy last year due to budget cuts), the prevention of family meetings being canceled for security reasons, extending the length of each visit from 45 minutes to an hour and a half, and the restoration of academic studies and matriculation exams for prisoners.

Other demands include more television channels being available in cells and the installation of public telephones in security wings.
And ponies for everyone.
Barghouti on Friday published a letter in the Lebanese paper al-Mayadeen, telling the striking prisoners that they should "rise up against the humiliation we are undergoing."

He said the strike was an "inseparable part" of the Paleostinian struggle for "freedom and respect."

He added that he was placed in solitary confinement as a result of the strike, according to a translation of his remarks published in the Hebrew-language media.

Britain
Conservatives make strong gains in UK local votes
[AlAhram] Britannia's governing Conservative Party made strong gains in local elections on Friday, suggesting that Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit strategy is winning over voters who should hand her an easy victory in a parliamentary election on June 8.

Early results in the polls, which voters often use as an opportunity to protest against the ruling party, showed May's Conservatives had gained more than 100 council seats and secured victory for their candidate as mayor for the West of England.

The main opposition Labour Party lost control of councils in Wales, but the biggest losses were suffered by the anti-EU UK Independence Party, which has struggled to find a new footing since the vote to leave the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
last June.

By calling an early national election for next month, May has made the local votes a gauge of her leadership, and many of her Conservative candidates have campaigned in recent days using her campaign mantra of "strong and stable leadership".

But turnout was low and the Conservatives were careful not to overplay their expected victory next month, which could reshape the British political landscape for years to come.

"(They are) encouraging results but I am cautious about predicating the general election on them," Defence Minister Michael Fallon told BBC radio.

The opposition Labour Party also played down its losses, with Labour finance front man John McDonnell saying that despite it being "tough ... it hasn't been the wipe-out that some people predicted or the polls predicted".

The early results suggested that May's Conservatives had taken votes from both Labour and UKIP, signalling that her bid to position her party in the political centre ground and take a strong stance on Brexit may be paying dividends.

Opinion polls give May a runaway lead in the national election on June 8 of around 20 percentage points, which could hand her more than 100 more seats in parliament and bolster her hand in divorce negotiations with the EU.

Arabia
South Yemen Protesters Challenge President's Authority
[An Nahar] Thousands of south Yemenis demonstrated on Thursday in support of a governor sacked by the president in a blow to his authority and his efforts to keep together a motley loyalist coalition.

In his war with Shiite Moslem rebels who control the capital Sanaa and much of the north, President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi has relied heavily on militia recruited in the formerly independent south, where separatist sentiment runs deep.

That has often forced him into a difficult balancing act with his other supporters -- Sunni Islamists and loyalist army units from the north.

Thursday's demonstrators converged on the region's main city Aden, where Hadi's government is based, from towns across the south.

Organizers called for sacked Aden governor Aidarous al-Zoubeidi to set up a "national leadership to represent the south" and pledged their allegiance to it, in a statement received by AFP.

Hadi dismissed Zoubeidi and state minister Hani bin Breik on April 27 in a move that was widely seen as reflecting divisions among his supporters.

The two men, who are both believed to be close to southern self-rule activists, played a key role in restoring security to Aden and adjacent provinces after the rebels were pushed out in 2015.

But they have rivals among northern generals who remained loyal to Hadi and among Islamist militia.

The recapture of the south depended heavily on the support of a Saudi-led coalition, and both Zoubeidi and Bin Breik are reported to have close ties with one of its key members, the United Arab Emirates.

Hadi spends most of his time in neighboring Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the UAE is part of a coordination committee with the Yemeni government that has been set up there.

The south's independence ended when it united with the north in 1990. Four years later, it launched a bloody separatist rebellion which culminated in its occupation by northern forces.

-War on Police-
This Week in Guns, May 6th, 2017

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

The US Army Special Operations Command will begin testing 23 cartridges in the 6.5mm Creedmoor caliber this month, to decide on a intermediate caliper for their sniper rifles. I have heard a lot of nice things about the 6.5mm Creedmoor of late, so it will be interesting to see what combination of powder/bullet weight the Army will chose. A helpful comparison chart is included in the link.

As an aside, other than the ballistic effect, why would the Army be using such a heavy bullet in the 7.62 NATO it will be replacing?

Mike Lamb, a member of the firearms community for
the past 20 years has admitted he wasn't a recon sniper for the US Marines. Being a recon sniper is an elite position in the Marines, and a pretty big deal, as I understand it.

I read a quip some time ago that is it amazing how many recon snipers, Delta Force and Navy SEALs you will meet at a Veteran Affairs hospital, and how few runners, cooks, clerks and drivers there are even though they compose the bulk of the military.

Leftists in Arizona gather in the desert for firearms familiarization, but the writer at the link insists that is somehow nothing serious. Our sworn enemies are arming up and the only thing the writer at the link can do is to conclude their efforts are hilarious. At the beginning it may be, but there is nothing funny about a bunch of Kommies preparing to shoot your ass because of a set of concepts drilled into their soft heads by genuine enemies.

A.K.A. targets.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Pistol ammunition prices were steady. Rifle ammunition prices were steady.

Prices for used pistols were mixed. Prices for used rifles were mostly lower.

New Lows:

Arizona: 30-30 Winchester Lever Action: Winchester Ranger: $200
Texas: .40 caliber S&W (Glock or other semiautomatic): Beretta 96: $200

Housekeeping: I failed to note last week that the nationwide average price for used AR-15s reached a new low of $462.

A conservative columnist who was suspended by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch after she defended the National Rifle Association from comparisons to ISIS fired back with her resignation and a series of targeted tweets.

The newspaper on Friday suspended Stacy Washington after a column entitled "Guns and the Media" disputed an anti-NRA article that argued since more Americans die from guns than from ISIS, the Second Amendment advocacy group is the greater danger.

“[W]hen has a member of the NRA ever decapitated, set on fire, tossed from a rooftop or otherwise terrorized another American? The linkage is not only rife with improper context; it is false on its face,” Washington wrote in her column, which also decried the lack of conservatives in U.S. newsrooms. “This failure to represent the opposing, especially conservative, view is an increasingly apparent deficit in the news reporting apparatus in our country.”

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch asserts that Washington was not suspended for the views expressed in her column, but for failing to disclose her promotional work and professional affiliation with the NRA. Washington has appeared several times as a co-host and commentator on “Cam & Company” on NRA TV and contributed to an NRA documentary in August 2016. However, she has never been paid by the NRA.

“Her active promotional activities and professional association with the National Rifle Association represented an unacceptable conflict of interest in her most recent column, which resulted in our suspension of her work,” Tod Robberson, the Post-Dispatch’s editorial page editor, wrote in a response to Washington’s suspension and quitting.

Robberson added: “Columnists are expected to fully disclose conflicts of interest when writing about topics where such a conflict might arise. We apply this standard regardless of the lobbying or advocacy group being written about in a column.”

Following her suspension last Friday, Washington mounted a Twitter broadside at her Post-Dispatch editors, insisting she is not a paid “shill” for the NRA and noting the irony of a column calling out the lack of conservatives in the mainstream media getting a conservative suspended from a mainstream newspaper.

#4  The 6.5 bullet has a much lower drag than the .308 NATO. It is a 1000m effective (i.e. supersonic) bullet while the .308 NATO is considered a 800m bullet. That the cartridge is lighter, and so can the rifle, is a bonus.

Tribesmen surrender arms, ammunition in Kohat
[DAWN] KOHAT: Elders of the Ustarzai and Marai tribes voluntarily surrendered a second huge cache of heavy weapons to police on Thursday.

The submission was part of the de-weaponisation campaign launched by the administration in the area. The two tribes live along Hangu Road and also in Orakzai Agency
... crawling with holy men, home to Darra Adam Khel, the world's largest illegal arms bazaar. 14 distinct tribes of beturbanned primitives inhabit Orakzai agency's 1500 or so square kilometers...
SP operations Tariq Mehmood told a presser that police and army had earlier given the April 15 deadline to all tribes to surrender arms. Later, the deadline was extended at the request of the tribes because they were not ready to give away their arms unless their reservations were addressed.

Fears expressed
The two tribes had demanded that the Mishti and Bezote tribes should also be forced to surrender arms. They had expressed the fear that in case of unilateral surrender of arms by them, they might be attacked by the rival tribes when they would be unable to respond.

The campaign came to a halt after the first surrender of arms made before the expiry of the deadline.

DPO Javed Iqbal and army officials assured the Ustarzai and Marai rustics that their rivals would not be allowed to take up arms against them.

Mr Iqbal told Dawn that he had discussed the matter with the army, which promised to set up check-posts in the areas adjacent to Orakzai Agency.

The arms surrendered by the two tribes included four anti-aircraft guns, two mortar guns, one heavy machine gun, one light machine gun, one 8mm machine gun, two rockets, one RR 75 machine gun, 143 mortar shells, and thousands of 12.7 cartridges.

Sources said that the tribes still possessed a large quantity of heavy weapons bought from Afghanistan from time to time for use in case of sectarian strife. Unless a peace agreement was inked between the rival tribes, complete de-weaponisation was not possible, they said.

The tribal elders, requesting not to be named, said that they did not trust the administration to protect them in case of a fight with rival tribes keeping in view their past experiences.

They said that Taliban

ISIS fights off renewed Syrian Army assault near Deir Ezzor Airbase
[ALMASDARNEWS] On Friday, 10 soldiers of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) were killed amid festivities with ISIS forces of Evil on the perimeter of Deir Ezzor Airbase, Amaq Agency claimed.

ISIS sustained a similar corpse count, a military source told al-Masdar News.

However,

the ISIS outlet also released a video showing an anti-tank missile striking a Bofors 57 mm gun at an SAA-held trench inside the airport pocket near Harabesh Mountain:

On the other hand, the 104th Airborne Division of the Elite Republican Guard, National Defence Forces and allied tribal fighters managed to overrun numerous ISIS-held points in the region, even liberating the Electricity Station north of Deir Ezzor Airbase.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Russia Says Syria Safe Zones Closed to US-Coalition Jets
[An Nahar] Jets from the US-led coalition are barred from proposed safe zones in Syria set to be created under a deal inked by Russia, Iran and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, Moscow's envoy said Friday.

"In terms of their actions in the de-escalation zones then from this moment these zones are closed for their flights," the Kremlin's envoy to peace talks in Kazakhstan Alexander Lavrentiev was quoted as saying by Interfax news agency.

"Aviation operations, especially by the international coalition forces, are absolutely not envisioned," he said.

Regime backers Russia and Iran and rebel supporter Turkey on Thursday signed a deal at talks in Kazakhstan to set up four safe zones in the war-torn country.

The agreement did not explicitly mention the US-led coalition, which has been targeting jihadists from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group, but Lavrentiev insisted that "flights cease over these territories."

"We as guarantors will closely monitor all operations," he said.

Moscow's envoy said this means coalition air power can now only focus on "Islamic State targets that are located in the area of Raqa, some populated areas in the region of the Euphrates, Deir Ezzor and further on to the territory of Iraq."

The exact boundaries of the proposed safe zones in Syria are yet to be defined but they are meant to focus on rebel-held territory.

The United States gave an extremely cautious welcome to the deal, citing concerns over Iran's role as a guarantor, even as it expressed hope that the agreement could set the stage for a settlement.

The limitations could throw up obstacles for any potential US operations in Syria in the future after President Donald Trump

Refugee camps or sanctuary city-states for combatants? New tribal clusters? With the mix of players I don't see this resolving conflict only increasing the friction.

However this may give the US a chance to step back from active engagement to take a breather. Always a good thing.

ISIS urges its French supporters to 'burn polling stations and murder candidates'
[Ynet] The terror group uses its magazine Rumiyah call on its members to carry out attacks on the day of the presidential elections in La Belle France on Sunday; 'Don't forget your duty as a Moslem. Choose a candidate to kill & polling station to burn,' states the magazine's article.

ISIS published an article in its magazine Rumiyah on Thursday, telling all Moslems who support it to carry out attacks in La Belle France on Sunday, when millions of French people are to vote for either centrist Emmanuel Macron and far-right candidate Marine Le Pen, in the country's second round in the current presidential election.

"'Don't forget your duty as a Moslem. Choose a candidate to kill & polling station to burn," the magazine article states. ISIS supporters are urged to put their faith in Allah and rise up to act against them.

The article also says that in the current election, the question is not who of the "two devils" is worse. "They are idolaters," states the article, calling on its readers not to stand on the sidelines and wait, but destroy polling stations and have no pity for anyone who does not belong to their faith.

As Rumiyah's article began to circulate in several languages, it was reported that a soldier serving at a base north of Gay Paree was arrested on suspicion that due to his views becoming more radical and extreme, he was planning on carrying out an attack on Election Day. Upon his arrest, an ISIS flag was found in his car, in addition to a letter in which he declares that he intends to carry out an attack and weapons and ammunition.

Meanwhile,
...back at the game, the Babe was wondering why the baseball kept getting bigger and bigger. Finally it hit him...
the verbal sparring between both presidential candidates continued on Friday. After Le Pen, who is trailing far behind Macron in the polls, encountered 50 activists who shouted and threw eggs at her, the far-right candidate tweeted that "Macron's supporters are bringing violence with them to wherever they go."

In a survey published on Friday, Macaron is predicted to win with 63 percent of the vote, compared to Le Pen's 37 percent. An earlier survey similarly found that Macron is set to receive 62 percent of the vote and Le Pen 38 percent. A third survey, however, found that about a quarter of French voters do not intend to go to the polls on Sunday.

According to the same poll, most of those planning not to vote are left-wing voters who were disappointed with the results of the first round, which had a 78 percent turnout. If such a low number of voters indeed shows up, it will be the lowest voter turnout since 1965.

New Jersey Man Charged With Attempting to Support ISIS, Planning NYC Bombing
[NBCNewYork] Authorities say Gregory Lepsky wanted to travel to Syria
  • Gregory Lepsky, 20, of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, faces charges of attempting to join and support ISIS

  • Federal prosecutors say they found a new pressure cooker in Lepsky's house

  • Lepsky allegedly told law enforcement he planned to detonate a bomb in New York City
A New Jersey man has been incarcerated
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
for allegedly planning to set off a bomb in New York City in support of ISIS, federal prosecutors said Friday.

Gregory Lepsky, 20, will appear in Newark federal court to face once charge of attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization.

Police said they found a brand new pressure cooker at the man's home.

Lepsky was arrested Feb. 21 after a relative called police and said he had threatened to kill the family dog. While being treated for wounds to his arms, Lepsky said he had joined ISIS and had plane tickets to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, according to a criminal complaint.

While searching his home, authorities found a brand new pressure cooker hidden in his closet.

Lepsky subsequently claimed, while in the hospital, that he had been in contact with ISIS members via Facebook and that he had been studying how to make a pressure cooker bomb with gunpowder, the complaint says.

"Lepsky also stated that he was going to take the pressure cooker and gunpowder to New York City, bring the items into a crowded area of Manhattan, and blow it up to kill people. Lepsky explained that he would be rewarded in the afterlife for this act," the complaint said.

Further investigation revealed that Lepsky had multiple conversations on Facebook in which he said he had converted to Islam and wanted to go to Syria to fight non-believers, according to court documents.

A search of his phone turned up a variety of anti-Semitic images, the ISIS flag and a picture of an armed Lepsky dressed in fatigues and making pro-ISIS hand gestures, the complaint says.

Lepsky is not the first local man to be arrested in recent months for attempting to join ISIS. In March, the FBI arrested a Long Island man who tried to travel to Syria to join the terror group, and last November a Brooklyn resident was arrested with similar plans.

Lawyer information for Lepsky was not immediately known. He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison on the criminal charge.
The Daily Mail adds that he also told police he planned to kill his mother and:
He said in another Facebook message that his father was a Moslem from Chechnya, but stopped being religious when he moved to America.

'But I want to be different,' Sherlocks said he wrote. 'I want to be religious and grow up and be a martyr."
Ynet explains the dog thing:
Investigators said Lepsky told police he stabbed the dog because it was considered "dirty" in his view of Islam. Lepsky faces an initial court appearance Friday afternoon. If convicted, the charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

India's top court upholds death sentences for 2012 Delhi gang rape convicts
[DAWN] India's top court on Friday upheld the death sentences of four men who were convicted in the fatal gang-rape and torture of a 23-year-old medical student on a moving bus in New Delhi in 2012.

The court held that the nature of the crime, which triggered massive protests across India, made it a fit case for the death penalty. It described the assault as "most brutal, barbaric and diabolical," according to the Press Trust of India news agency.

The victim's father said he was happy with the court judgement and demanded that the convicts be hanged quickly.

"The court heard our voice and gave justice," he said.

Prosecutors said the four Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta and Mukesh took their victim to the back of a private bus in New Delhi, raping her and then damaging her internal organs with an iron rod.

Hanging results in no recidivism for these four. The fifth perp was found hanging in his cell. The names sound Indian and the perps are probably Hindu if they have a religion. Were this Pakistain, the perps would probably get off for lack of enough witnesses.

Assailants mow down Ahmadi man
[DAWN] RAHIM YAR KHAN/CHINIOT: Armed assailants rubbed out a man belonging to the Ahmadi community on Zahirpir-Khanpur Road about 56 kilometres from here on Wednesday night.

Reports suggested Basharat Ahmad, 59, a resident of Khanpur’s Green Town area, was on his way home by cycle of violence when assailants fired at him near a filling station. Thought to be an accident, his family took the body home where they noticed a bullet mark on his head.

The DPO’s spokesperson told Dawn that Basharat Ahmad had been targeted and the assailants fled without touching his mobile phone and Rs15,000.

The Khanpur Saddar police started the paperwork but haven't done much else under Section 302 of PPC.

Information gleaned by Chiniot correspondent said Basharat Ahmad was going back home from his petrol station on Zahir Pir Road (which connects the city to main Pakistain Highway) when gunnies shot at him from point blank range and he was struck down in his prime.

Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Pakistain spokesperson Saleemuddin condemned the attack and said this was the third incident in the last one month or so in which an Ahmadi community member had been slain. Advocate Malik Saleem Latif was killed in Nankana Sahib and Dr Ashfaq Ahmad in Lahore, he said.

Arabia
Saudi Arabia eases control on women as King Salman revises guardianship law
More on this story from yesterday.
[DAWN] Saudi women no longer need a man's consent to carry out certain activities, local media reported on Friday.

The Arab News said a royal decree issued by King Salman
...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Cutodian of the Two Holy Mosquesand Lord of Most of the Arabians....
ordered that women are no longer required to obtain a guardian's consent for official services "unless there is a legal basis for this request" under Islamic law.

Government agencies were advised of this directive, the report said.

Though the new royal decree provides some relief, activists say the order does not go far enough.

Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
has some of the world's tightest restrictions on women, and is the only country where they are not allowed to drive.

Under the guardianship system a male family member, normally the father, husband or brother, must grant permission for a woman's study, travel and other activities.

Sahar Hassan Nasief, a women's rights activist in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, welcomed royal attention to the issue but said it remained unclear what will change under the decree.

"We still need more. We still need to get rid of the guardianship completely," she told AFP.

Nassima al-Sadah, an activist in the Gulf coast city of Qatif, said she does not think the government is about to end guardianship.

"Maybe they will just reduce it," she said.

Last year thousands of people signed a petition calling for an end to guardianship.

United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
special rapporteur Philip Alston, on a visit to Saudi Arabia in January, said the guardianship system needs reform.

Activists say that even female prisoners have to be received by the guardian upon their release, meaning some have to languish in jail or a shelter beyond their sentences if the man does not want to accept them.

Although the government no longer requires guardian permission for women to work, Human Rights Watch said in an earlier report that many employers still demand guardian consent in order to hire a woman.

Some hospitals also require a guardian's approval before carrying out medical procedures, it said.

Activists say that if they have open-minded male family members, getting their consent is not a problem.

#1  Some hospitals also require a guardian's approval before carrying out medical procedures, it said.

A sad anecdote, personally observed,...
A woman in full garb with mask (black) attended by husband and brother (tshirts, shorts, sand skimmer flipflops) during entry interview at a (wonderful) cancer treatment center was asked to bare her arm for the blood pressure cuff, then asked to remove her headgear so they could take her temp, check her eyes, etc. This little bit of cultural intrusion caused agitation in all three parties. When they were handed a cup and she was asked for a urine sample, the guys went nuts and had to be removed by Security.

True story.

EU Official Angers Hungary with 'Anti-Semitism' Charge
[An Nahar] Hungary told European Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans to quit on Friday after he was quoted suggesting Prime Minister Viktor Orban's animosity towards George Soros
...the secretive Hungarian born Ernst Stavro Blofeld-like billionaire who seems to fund every horrible progressive organization you can think of...
was driven by anti-Semitism.

Hungary's foreign ministry said Timmermans "should resign from his post after having accused Hungary's Prime Minister and the country's government of anti-Semitism".

Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that the comments were an "unfounded accusation" and that Hungary "has done more than anyone in Europe to combat anti-Semitism," a statement said.

It added that Budapest "has major issues" with the Hungarian-born financier and philanthropist but that "these disputes have absolutely nothing to do with George Soros' origins or religion."

Orban on Wednesday told the European Parliament that Soros was an "American financial speculator attacking Hungary" and that the Hungarian-born financier has "destroyed the lives of millions of Europeans."

Asked in an interview with Germany weekly Die Zeit published on Thursday whether he thought the comments sounded anti-Semitic, Timmermans said: "I understood that in exactly the same way as you and was appalled."

Orban was in Brussels to defend education legislation that the Central European University in Budapest, a highly respected institution founded by Soros, believes is aimed at forcing it to close.

#1  I don't doubt there are Jew-haters who hate Mr. Soros because he is Jewish. They are fools; Mr. Soros is an equal opportunity despoiler of lives, having started in childhood by gleefully sending his Jewish neighbours to their deaths at the hands of the Nazis for material gain, and deserves to be hated for himself alone -- a generic category cannot encompass him.

But since the purpose of the accusation is to emasculate PM Orban and force him to comply with Brussel's demands for accepting Muslim colonists, it is a convenient stick to beat him with.

Russia Has Irrefutable Proof Syria’s Chemical Weapons Disaster Was a Provocation: Diplomat
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] Russia has irrefutable evidence indicating that the events in Khan Sheikhoun were a provocation, and Moscow will continue convincing the West to change the position in this matter, Russian delegation head at Astana talks and Special Presidential Representative for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev said.

"You understand perfectly well that Russia has all the irrefutable evidence that this is a pure provocation on the part of individuals and structures that are not interested in achieving peace on the Syrian soil, but unfortunately all our explanations, arguments, attempts to prove stumble into complete misunderstanding of the West," Lavrentyev told news hounds.

"Nevertheless, we will work in this direction, try to convince the countries to change their position in relation to the government of Syria," he added.

Blank space replaces New York Times article criticising Pakistani army
[Dhaka Tribune] An International New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
opinion piece criticising the powerful Mighty Pak Army was censored by its local publisher Friday. The story saying Pakistain’s government protected Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
forces was censored by the publisher’s printing partner in that country, resulting in a blank hole on the front page of its international edition.

The article, a 4,800-word excerpt from a forthcoming book by NY Times news hound Carlotta Gall to be published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt next month, appeared in the New York Times magazine in the US and was intended as a front-page article of the International New York Times. While the story appears on most copies of the international edition, it doesn’t show up in papers distributed in Pakistain, about 9,000 copies, according to the publisher.

The NY Times’s Pakistain printer, part of the Express Tribune newspaper in that country, removed the article without its knowledge, according to NY Times spokeswoman Eileen Murphy.

"We would never self-censor and this decision was made without our knowledge or agreement," she said in an e-mail. "While we understand that our publishing partners are sometimes faced with local pressures, we regret any censorship of our journalism."

It is unclear if the NY Times will continue its partnership with Express Tribune.

Gall’s reporting looks at the ties between Pakistain’s main intelligence service, ISI, and the Taliban. Her article points to former Pakistain President Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
as one of the Taliban’s protectors who knew about the late Osama bin Laden

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
169 Killed in a Week of Insurgent Infighting near Damascus
[An Nahar] A week of infighting killed nearly 169 people in the rebel-held Eastern Ghouta region outside Syria's capital Damascus before calm returned on Friday, a monitor said.

The festivities erupted on April 28 between the powerful Army of Islam faction and the former al-Qaeda affiliate Fateh al-Sham
...formerly al-Nusra, the current false nose and mustache of al-Qaeda in the Levant...
Front, along with ally Faylaq al-Rahman.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based monitor, said the area was calm Friday but also reported "a continued state of alert on both sides in the areas under their control."

The monitor said 156 fighters had been killed in the festivities, 67 from the Army of Islam and the rest from Fateh al-Sham and allied forces.

The fighting also killed 13 civilians, including two children, and maimed dozens, the monitor said.

The end of the fighting was confirmed by the Army of Islam, which said in a statement it had ended its operation against Fateh al-Sham after having achieved "most of its goals."

Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said the "situation has returned to how it was before," adding that "each side has taken back the areas it lost during the fighting."

He said Fateh al-Sham had been weakened by the fighting, and had leaned heavily on Faylaq al-Sham for support during the festivities.

Fateh al-Sham, previously known as al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front, has a contentious relationship with some rebel groups, but many others have allied with it against the regime, despite its jihadist ideology.

The festivities are not the first time infighting has erupted in Eastern Ghouta, with around 500 rebels dying in weeks of battles that erupted in April 2016 between the Army of Islam and Fateh al-Sham.

The region is also regularly targeted by Syria's government.

Egyptian authorities arrest two human smugglers in Alexandria
[AlAhram] Egyptian border guards and prosecutors incarcerated
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
in Alexandria on Friday two migrant traffickers who admitted to organising illegal migration trips to Europe, state news agency MENA reported.

Authorities seized three fishing boats used by the men to carry migrants colonists to Italia and Greece on dangerous trips that cost EGP 30,000-40,000 per person, MENA added. Investigations into the case are ongoing.

In November, Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi ratified a law aimed at curbing irregular migration and cracking down on human smuggling along the country's northern Mediterranean coast which has put thousands of migrants colonists on precarious boat journeys to Europe.

While the legislation does not punish the migrants colonists themselves, it imposes jail terms on those convicted of human smuggling or acting as brokers or controllers.

In September 2016, a boat carrying up to 450 people capsized off Egypt's north coast. At least 202 bodies were recovered from the sea and 169 people rescued.

In March, an Egyptian court handed jail terms to 56 people involved in the disaster.

Around 320 migrants colonists and refugees drowned off the Greek island of Crete in June of last year.

Survivors said that their boat had departed from Egypt. According to the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), more than 5,000 migrants colonists are thought to have drowned in the Mediterranean Sea in 2016, a record figure the organization described as "a devastating milestone."

In recent years, thousands of migrants colonists and refugees from a number of countries have attempted to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe, with an increasing number departing via smuggling boats from Egypt's northern coast.

The risk from permafrost pathogens is inherently unknowable
[BBC Earth] Throughout history, humans have existed side-by-side with bacteria and viruses. From the bubonic plague to smallpox, we have evolved to resist them, and in response they have developed new ways of infecting us.

We have had antibiotics for almost a century, ever since Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin. In response, bacteria have responded by evolving antibiotic resistance. The battle is endless: because we spend so much time with pathogens, we sometimes develop a kind of natural stalemate.

However, what would happen if we were suddenly exposed to deadly bacteria and viruses that have been absent for thousands of years, or that we have never met before?
We may be about to find out. Climate change is melting permafrost soils that have been frozen for thousands of years, and as the soils melt they are releasing ancient viruses and bacteria that, having lain dormant, are springing back to life.

Egypt to open Rafah crossing into Gaza for three days
[AlAhram] Egypt will open its border crossing with Gazoo for three days starting Saturday, state news agency MENA reported.

The Rafah crossing will only be opened in one direction -- for Paleostinians stranded outside Gazoo to return home, MENA added.

Egypt has kept its border with the Gazoo Strip largely closed over security concerns following the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohammed Morsi almost four years ago.

The crossing was last opened temporarily in March.

The border openings in recent months come amid signs of improving ties between Cairo and Gazoo's governing group Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",.

A senior Hamas delegation visited Cairo in late January. Hamas leader Mahmoud El-Zahar said at the time that Paleostinian and Egyptian officials had reached a border control agreement.
