According to Edward Kritzler, in Jewish Pirates of the Caribbean, many of these British Caribbean islands were settled by Jewish pirates! Sephardim living in Spain were hired on as pilots and cartographers, hiding under the banner of new Catholic converts when Spain banned all Jews. He claims Colombus was a closet Jew, looking for a new homeland following the time of the Inquisition, which drove the Dispora to the Dutch and British for protection. They hired them on to build their empires. Cromwell gave them his blessing, but then he also deported the Irish "pigs" to run the pubs and brothels for the sailors! Jamaica and other islands prospered, as they became merchants, shipping traders, and planted crops. These same islands also have taken in many of the Paleo diaspora, too, where they have lived together fairly peacefully. Interesting book, btw, with unusual history taken from ships' logs at the Jamaican National Library.

#3 Spent the holidays on a cruise in the Carib. You should see the homes in the old Jew quarter of Curacao. Definitely not a ghetto in modern terms.
