'Sheila Jackson Lee Named Head Of Harvard Astronomy Department
[BEE] CAMBRIDGE, MA — In the wake of claiming the moon is made of gas and the sun is "almost" too hot to get close to, Texas Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has been named the new head of Harvard University's Astronomy Department.

The Board of Overseers at the prestigious Ivy League institution was reportedly wowed by Jackson Lee's insights into the cosmos, with the school immediately seeking to get in touch with her about the department head position.

"Her knowledge blew us away," said Harvard Interim President Alan Garber. "When she said, 'The moon is made up of mostly gasses. That's why the question is why or how could we humans live on the moon' -- that's when we knew she was Harvard material."

While some have raised questions about Jackson Lee's qualifications to lead the school's Astronomy Department after her comments about the moon being comprised of gases, the board was willing to overlook any criticism. "It's not about qualifications here at Harvard," Garber said. "She hasn't been qualified to serve in Congress all these years, but she's done it. That says a lot about her ability to overcome adversity and general misunderstandings about basic elements. She literally watched a flag be planted on the moon, thinking it's being planted in gas - and yet, she got elected to Congress. What a leader!"

Jackson Lee's office said she would join the school's faculty within a few weeks and that due to normal legislative inaction, it would not interfere with her ability to continue serving in Congress.

At publishing time, Jackson Lee was planning her first lecture to educate students about the fact that asteroids are made of chocolate.

'Morning Glory: We are in a war. Biden doesn't know it. Trump does.
By Hugh Hewitt

[FoxNews] Is the United States at war this April, 2024? Was it at war in November, 1941?

Of course we are, just as we were on the eve of Pearl Harbor. Just as then, many Americans including the president were unaware of it.

If you have any doubt ask the families of Sgt. William Jerome Rivers of Carrollton, Georgia; Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders of Waycross, Georgia; and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett of Savannah, Georgia, killed in Jordan in January. President Biden, on the Sunday after the murders by drone, announced that the drone came from "radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq."

Get it? Iran ordered those soldiers killed. We are in an undeclared war with Iran, as is Israel though by the time this column appears, Iran may have abandoned its cloak of cowardice and struck directly at Israel from Iranian soil and brought the barely hidden war into the open.

Though President Biden may not fully grasp it because he is increasingly and obviously infirm (and our enemies know it)— the triumvirs he rules in the name of —Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Secretary of Defense Austin and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan— surely do know this fundamental fact. If they don’t they are stupid, and they are not stupid. They do seem, however, afraid.

The United States is at war with a three-tiered partnership of evil actors. Like a law firm with a managing partner, senior partners, junior partners and associates, our enemies confront a firm led by China, with senior partners Russia and Iran and junior partners North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela and many associates the most visible of which are Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis. The South American and Mexican drug cartels, like the remnants of ISIS and ISIS-K, are wannabe serious enemies but denied either formal territory or significant armaments they are dangerous to Americans but not "existential threats."

The partnership led of predatory states, led by Xi Jinping at the top of the Leninist Chinese Communist Party, is. They are our enemies and until and unless we begin to treat that partnership of enemies as bent on our defeat and the defeat of our allies we will not be able to rally the West to its own defense.

Afghanistan
On issues of recognition of the Taliban
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin.

[ColonelCassad] Regarding questions about recognition of the Taliban:

1. The Taliban did not say a single bad word about Russia after February 24, 2022.

2. The Taliban have not committed a single terrorist attack on Russian territory.

3. The Taliban is ready to trade with Russia and does not care about the West in general and sanctions in particular.

4. The Taliban does not supply weapons and ammunition to Ukraine.

5. The Taliban kills ISIS terrorists on their territory and persecutes those who served the pro-American regime.

6. The Taliban have, in practice, seriously reduced the production of heroin and other types of drugs in Afghanistan.
That’s during even years. During odd years, they require Afghan farmers to grow the stuff, same as they did their first time in power.
7. The Taliban is ready to be part of economic corridors in the interests of China, Russia and Iran.

8. The Taliban is ready to provide access to the development of its mineral resources (China is already doing so).

9. The Taliban do not demonstrate any intentions to expand into Central Asia.

Among the disadvantages of the Taliban at the moment:

1. Insufficient representation of all key peoples of Afghanistan in the government.
Not something likely to change, since they’re about Allah’s business over there.
2. The presence of radical groups within the Taliban, including those associated with Western intelligence services and Pakistani intelligence.
Which Western intelligence services? Show your work. Otherwise, see #1.
3. Too strict a policy towards women - both in matters of their education and in matters of their punishment.
See #1.
4. Insufficient control over semi-autonomous clans on the borders of Iran and Pakistan.

Overall, the pros already outweigh the cons.

'Hero City under Occupation.' The second liberation of Odessa is inevitable
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Arkady Melikov

[REGNUM] “The hero city is celebrating the eightieth anniversary of its liberation under occupation,” the head of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov wrote about Odessa in his Telegram channel. As IA Regnum previously noted, the peninsula is now celebrating the 80th anniversary of the start of the Crimean offensive operation; in a matter of days, the anniversary of liberation will be celebrated in the hero city of Sevastopol. In words, the Ukrainian mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov paid respect to the fighters against Nazism - he mentioned (during the presentation of the buggy to the assault units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine) “a significant day for Odessa, which 80 years ago brought Odessa victory” and even laid flowers at the monument to the Unknown Sailor in Shevchenko Park.

In previous years, countless people came here to the Walk of Fame from early morning to lay flowers at the monument to the Unknown Sailor and honor the memory of the liberating heroes. It is impossible to prohibit Odessa residents from being proud of history, but for ten years now, those who dare to come with the Victory Banner or St. George’s ribbon find themselves in serious danger - the flag came under the law on decommunization, and for the ribbon people are beaten by the Nazis or arrested.

Immediately after the report on the laying of flowers, Mayor Trukhanov posted an announcement about the next “public hearings” regarding the next decommunization of city toponymy - they plan to rename Marshal Govorov Street, among other things.

If the current military-civil leadership still cannot help but mention the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Odessa, at least for the sake of formality, then the approaching mournful anniversary - the 10th anniversary of the tragedy in the House of Trade Unions "Miska Vlad" - will most likely be passed over in silence.

“Even today the smoke of a terrible fire hangs over Odessa, in which the Nazis burned the defenders of the city on May 2, 2014,” emphasized Sergei Aksenov.

The fact that the current Kiev regime (as well as the team of Petro Poroshenko that preceded it ) considers Nazi methods of dealing with dissidents to be the norm is evidenced by the admission a year ago of Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to the office of Vladimir Zelensky. Let us remind you that he shared his plans for the “liberation” of Crimea and Donbass: “We legally have the right to destroy everything that is located on the territory of Crimea, Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.”

Just three weeks before the tragedy of May 2, 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin officially congratulated the residents of Odessa - and among them the anti-fascists camped on the Kulikovo Field - on the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the city. Then the president recalled the centuries-old traditions of good neighborliness and mutual assistance, which will continue to unite the Russian and Ukrainian peoples, but in Ukraine a different course was taken, aimed primarily at forgetting the common heroic history and replacing it with Russophobia.

IA Regnum has already recalled in detail how Soviet soldiers, under the leadership of the commander of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, Odessa resident Rodion Malinovsky, carried out a magnificent operation to liberate the city without bloody street battles and the use of heavy weapons.

To this story we can only add a brief chronology of the war years.

Already a month after the start of the Great Patriotic War, at the end of July 1941, the front was closely approaching Odessa, then on August 5 an order was received from the Supreme High Command headquarters about the need to defend the city to the last opportunity, involving the Black Sea Fleet in the case.

The defense lasted two months - from August 5 to October 16, 1941. Soviet troops of the Primorsky Army, with the support of the Black Sea Fleet under the command of Vice Admiral Philip Oktyabrsky, in heroic battles repelled a number of assaults by the superior forces of the 4th Romanian Army, but on October 1, by order of Headquarters, troops from Odessa began evacuating to Sevastopol.

In addition to the soldiers, Odessa citizens also showed heroism in defense: they had to dig trenches, build dugouts, and put up wire fences. Due to a shortage of workers, teenagers, women and pensioners began to work at the machines in factories. After the Nazis captured the water pumping station in the city, they began to issue water using ration cards, which was the first and only case in the entire history of the war.

The Nazi-German-Romanian occupation lasted almost three years, from October 16, 1941 to April 9, 1944. During this time, 82,000 inhabitants of Odessa died, 78,000 were sent to forced labor in Nazi Germany. Five partisan detachments and 45 underground patriotic groups operated in the city, whose assistance in the future helped with the liberation.

The Odessa operation began on March 26, 1944 after the successful conduct of the Bereznegovato-Snigirevsky operation by the main forces of the 3rd Ukrainian Front under the command of Army General Malinovsky. At the beginning of the operation, the group of Soviet troops had 470,000 people, 12,678 guns and mortars, 435 tanks and self-propelled artillery units, 436 aircraft. Support for the offensive of the front forces was entrusted to the 17th Air Army, as well as aviation and ships of the Black Sea Fleet under the command of Admiral Philip Oktyabrsky.

The Soviet troops were opposed by the replenished troops of the German 6th and Romanian 3rd armies of Army Group A (from April 5 - “Southern Ukraine”) under the command of Field Marshal Ewald Kleist, from April 1 - Colonel General Ferdinand Scherner. They numbered 350,000 people, about 3,200 thousand mortar guns, 160 tanks and assault guns. In this direction, the enemy could use up to 550 combat aircraft of the 1st Air Corps of the German 4th Air Fleet and the Romanian Aviation Corps.

During fierce battles on April 10, 1944, Soviet troops completely liberated the Nikolaev and Odessa regions, as well as a significant part of Moldova.

As a result of the Odessa operation, Soviet troops inflicted a heavy defeat on the 6th German and 3rd Romanian armies. During the operation, the enemy lost over 27,000 people killed and more than 11,000 prisoners, 952 guns, 443 tanks and assault guns, 95 warehouses with ammunition and food.

Partisans and underground fighters who emerged from the catacombs and shelters provided significant assistance to the Red Army in liberating the city. They helped clear the city of the enemy and prevented the explosions of the port, piers, buildings, and warehouses that he had prepared. On the night of April 10, the partisans attacked the enemy from the rear.

The partisans of the Kuyalnitsky detachment under the command of Leonid Gorbel destroyed the enemy’s demolition team, which was supposed to blow up the dam of the Khadzhibey estuary and flood the Peresyp, which opened the way to the city for Soviet troops. Over the entire period of the partisan war against the invaders, the partisans destroyed over 5 thousand enemy soldiers and officers, blew up 27 military trains, destroyed 248 vehicles, and saved about 20,000 Soviet citizens from being hijacked to Germany.

A total of 27 formations and units that most distinguished themselves during the liberation of the city were given the honorary name “Odessa”. For heroism and courage shown in the battles for the city, 14 people were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, more than 2,150 people were awarded orders and medals of the USSR.

On May 1, 1945, by order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Odessa was declared a hero city. On May 8, 1965, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, for outstanding services to the Motherland, courage and heroism shown by workers in the fight against the Nazi invaders, the hero city of Odessa was awarded the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.

A total of 80 years have passed since this significant event, confirming the heroism of our ancestors, and we see how history, unfortunately, repeats itself before our eyes. The followers of the same Nazi ideology in 2014, in fact, again occupied Odessa and “proved by deed” their continuity in relation to Hitler’s punitive forces.

Nevertheless, we must be extremely clear that the reunification of historical Russian lands is an irreversible and necessary process associated with global historical events.

“Odessa is generally a Russian city. We know about this. Everyone knows this well,” said Russian President Vladimir Putin, answering a question from journalists at the “Results of the Year”.

#2  Interesting: In contrast to other areas of occupied Eastern Europe, the survival of Jewish population was significantly higher in Odesa. After the war, Jews constituted more than ten percent of Odesa's population, and could be found in most occupational groups from port stevedores and unskilled workers to the intellectual elite.

'And my city is called a Hero.' 80 years of the liberation of Odessa
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Denis Davydov

[REGNUM] The history of the liberation of Odessa, the 80th anniversary of which we celebrate on April 10, is full of brilliant feats and the heroes who accomplished them. The city by the Black Sea, special in all respects, magically gathered legendary families around itself.

It’s worth starting with the commander of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, Odessa resident Rodion Malinovsky. The legendary Stalingrad sniper Vasily Zaitsev, already a captain and commander of the company that captured the enemy airfield, also made his mark here.

Near Odessa, the 49th Guards Rifle Division of Colonel Vasily Margelov, the future “Uncle Vasya” of the airborne troops, led the offensive. A decisive contribution to the overall success was made by cavalrymen from the cavalry-mechanized group of General Issa Pliev, who was personally mentioned 16 times in the orders of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the USSR.

And Major General Ilya Shvygin, whose last name is not so well known, was one of the best division commanders of the Red Army: on April 9, he personally led a group of soldiers who attacked the port and saved the Odessa opera house from being blown up. He died a month later on the Dniester bridgehead and was buried on the Walk of Fame in Odessa. But together with everyone else he preserved the beautiful city almost unharmed.

The current situation contributed greatly to this.

By April 5, 1944, the situation for the German and Romanian troops defending in the Odessa area became critical. Malinovsky's troops bypassed them from the north, hanging over the enemy flank. The day before, Pliev’s cavalry captured the Razdelnaya station, depriving the enemy Army Group “Southern Ukraine” of a large supply base and an important transport hub.

Now the units of the 6th German Army of Colonel General Karl-Adolf Hollidt and the 3rd Romanian Army subordinate to him lost the possibility of supply from bases in Moldova and could not normally withdraw in the same direction. And it was already very necessary to retreat: all the armored reserves of the group were rushed to Razdelnaya in a desperate attempt to correct the situation.

In one of the battles, the defending fighters captured a Romanian officer, who reported something important: the water pumping station located in the village of Belyaevka was mined. And this is the only source of water for the city, supplied from the Dniester. In addition, this village and the village of Mayaki, located just to the south, stood at the last Lower Dniester crossing - the next one was only on the coast itself, in the Karolino-Bugaz region, where the Dniester flows into the Black Sea.

And Pliev, who worked as a “lifesaver” throughout the war, turned his cavalrymen and tanks to the south. On the night of April 6-7, the vanguard of the Kuban Cossacks bypassed Belyaevka from the north and along the coastal stretch reached the water station, clearing the approaches. The second detachment broke into the water pumping station, clearing it of the enemy, and the main forces that arrived liberated the village in a matter of hours. By noon on April 7, Mayaki was also liberated.

Then the commander of the 3rd Ukrainian Front decided to complete the “golden bridge” for the enemy group of troops: to artificially create a retreat route along which the enemy would rush to escape, abandoning everything, trying to save the “core” of his troops. Pliev received a message from front headquarters: “It would be good to capture Ovidiopol with a strong detachment. Conduct reconnaissance to Odessa. Save the water pump."

Ovidiopol is located less than 20 kilometers from Karolino-Bugaz, the Germans must have felt the threat of complete encirclement and rushed to where Malinovsky needed. And they felt: Hollidt directed all his available reserves against Pliev’s units. German aircraft fell from the sky onto the cavalry positions, which had nothing to oppose. At a critical moment of the battle, Pliev himself fought off enemy soldiers who burst into the house with a machine gun; he himself recalled this:

“Trying not to make any noise, I grabbed the machine gun. When I appeared at the door, the tall, stooped blond man dropped his weapon and did not move. The other, forgetting about the machine gun, darted to the window, but... hung lifelessly on the windowsill. The commander of the security platoon, Senior Lieutenant Laskin, jumped into the room, with several Cossacks with him. I look out the window: Germans! They run through the garden towards the house.”

But still, the penultimate escape route from Odessa was cut off, the Germans and Romanians began to hastily leave the city, hurrying to squeeze through the bottleneck of the automobile and railway crossing in Karolino-Bugaz and hastily loading ships in the Odessa port.

The ring of combined arms armies of the 3rd Ukrainian Front advancing towards Odessa was rapidly shrinking. The 6th and 8th Guards armies attacked from the north, and from the northwest to the suburb of Peresyp - the 5th attack, which passed along the isthmus between the Kuyalnitsky estuary and the Black Sea. In Odessa itself, in the Luzanovka area, dugouts were built, and long-term firing points were built at street intersections and city squares.

Vera Zhuravleva, signalman of the 320th Infantry Division, recalled:

“On the evening of April 9, when units of the division were already fighting in the Peresyp area, division commander Shvygin ordered the formation of a group of reconnaissance officers. Its task was to cause panic behind enemy lines, thereby preventing the destruction of the city and port and the evacuation of enemy troops.”

The general knew Odessa well from the Civil War and pre-war life, so he led a group of 17 volunteers through alleys and courtyards to Lanzheronovskaya Street, and then to Primorsky Boulevard. The port was in full view, and the fighters opened fire on the piers where the Germans were scurrying around. Half-empty ships and self-propelled barges hastily set sail, reinforcements entered the battle in the port and completely cleared it of the enemy.

Here the soldiers of the 49th Guards Rifle Division of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Colonel Vasily Margelov, who received the Gold Star for crossing the Dnieper and liberating Kherson, distinguished themselves. His riflemen burst into the port and seized a transport with cars there, one of which was presented to their division commander. For the liberation of Odessa, Margelov already became a general.

At this very time, local partisans came into action, emerged from the catacombs and began to make noise in the area. Fighting alongside them were more than 150 soldiers from the rear units of the 1st Slovak Division, who had gone over to our side the day before along with all the weapons they had.

The partisans reported that the port, the beautiful Odessa Opera House, and many other buildings in the city were mined. So at three o’clock in the morning Shvygin set the chief of sappers, Major Pavel Selivanov, the task of eliminating the threat with the assistance of Odessa underground fighters. By 11 o'clock on April 10, a red flag fluttered over the "opera", and the first to sign the theater's guest book after the liberation of Odessa was the commander of the 985th artillery regiment of the 320th division, Stepan Radushinsky.

Already in the afternoon, on the streets of the city, the orchestra played “The Internationale”, the liberator troops marched through the streets of Odessa: at 20 o’clock Moscow saluted them with 24 artillery salvoes from 324 guns, and the ships of the Black Sea Fleet - with a dozen salvoes from 120 guns. And in memory of the heroic defense and skillfully carried out liberation operation, already on May 1, 1945, in Order No. 20 of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the city was among the first to be named a hero.

[WeaponsAndStrategy] Ukraine: No More Air Defenses

Russia dominates Ukraine's Airspace.

By their own admission, Ukraine desperately needs air defenses. Most of the high end systems previously delivered from the US and Europe have either been destroyed or run out of interceptor missiles. NATO is searching for replacement missiles and parts for the Patriot air defense system. Germany, along with others in Europe, say there are no available interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Norway has promised more NASAMS, but they need to be built. Europe has handed over its stock of IRIS-T missiles and new ones won't be available at least until 2025. Now the US has announced it will provide $138 million in an emergency sale to maintain and repair HAWK air defense systems previously delivered to Ukraine.

Violent Crime in Germany Hits 15-Year High
Diversity is our friend.
[Armstrong Econ] Germany was once a safe nation. Violent crime has reached a 15-year high, with homicides, knife assaults, and rapes drastically increasing. Crime rose by 5.5% last year alone, with 6.6 million incidences reported. Other nations like the UK, US, Canada, France, Sweden, Finland, and everywhere else that permitted, if not encouraged, open border policies have also seen an uptick in crime but no one wants to point out the obvious.

Migrants were responsible for around 40% of violent crimes in Germany last year, but the non-German national population only composes 15% of the population. Angela Merkel sold off Germany in 2015 when she urged all refugees to come to Europe to seek a better life. The migrants never stopped showing up. Germany handled over 350,000 asylum applications in 2023, and that only accounts for those who went through the judicial process.

The left refuses to hold migrants responsible for crimes and will not acknowledge that different cultures simply do not integrate well into Western societies. Lamya Kaddor, a Green Party MP, said that migrants are simply over-represented in crime statistics. "The crime rate is higher among socio-economically disadvantaged groups, which very often include foreign nationals," she stated. Politicians like Kaddor do not care about the safety of their constituents and will never back away from open border policies

We have something similar here. I'm detecting a pattern.

America Is Now in the Business of Losing Wars
A taste:
[PJMedia] Despite all of this, Israel has achieved historic military wins: killing the top Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps commander in Lebanon and Syria; quieting the West Bank through targeted raids; extirpating Hamas control from most of the Gaza Strip, leaving only the city of Rafah with its four divisions of Hamas.

And the Biden administration has responded by calling on Israel to stop.

Not only that: the Biden administration has become the propaganda arm of Hamas. They have suggested that Israel has been indiscriminate in its war aims, too willing to kill civilians, willing even to stymie humanitarian assistance without reason. This week, Secretary of State Antony Blinken made the astonishing statement that Israel was risking losing its reverence for human life -- even as Israelis sacrifice their own lives in an attempt to rescue hostages and preserve civilians who largely support genocidal Jew-hatred. Blinken stated, "If we lose that reverence for human life, we risk becoming indistinguishable from those we confront." He then added, "Right now, there is no higher priority in Gaza than protecting civilians, surging humanitarian assistance, and ensuring the security of those who provide it."

Of course, there is a higher priority for Israel: victory.

But America is no longer interested in victory.

#3  The solution for Afghanistan was to turn Pakistan into a parking lot. Pakland was the Taliban's base of operation. No one wanted to do that.

#4  It's not working in Gaza despite a complete lack of any air defense, armor or any weaponry more sophisticated than an AK. Pakistan is much larger with a functioning military and nuclear weapons.
Maybe it's not worth "winning" if it costs our soul.

#5  ^ constraints of international law and public opinion. The news cycle has bored the conflict to stagnation. Israel should have wiped up operations by year's end and called it a Hanukkah blessing.

#6  Maybe it's not worth "winning" if it costs our soul.

Liar.

The rabbis ruled back in the second century before Christ that Jews are not required to allow themselves to be murdered. And Micah said, “What does God want if you? To do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.” Followed by Hillel the Elder, who told the smirking pagan, “All of Jewish law is ‘Do not do unto others as you would not have them do unto you.’ All the rest is commentary — now go and study.”

Given that Hamas announced shortly after 10/7 that if they were beaten back this time, they would commit 10/7 atrocities over and over again until they conquered all of Israel from the Mediterranean to the Jordan River. Which means that the Israelis are required to save their souls as well as their bodies by fighting all Gazans who do not surrender until Gaza is no longer capable of attacking. That they must do so without taking women as booty and beheading babies does not seem to be a problem for them.

Jew-hate spiked as news of the massacre started coming out on October 7th, and just kept growing exponentially from there, long before Israel had done anything at all.

#8  Today, Administrator Samantha Power announced that the United States, through USAID, will provide an additional $53 million in urgently needed humanitarian assistance for the people of Gaza and the West Bank affected by the ongoing conflict. This brings the total amount of funding announced by the U.S. government since October 7 to more than $180 million.
This additional funding will support partners, including World Food Program (WFP) and international NGOs, to provide urgently needed food, health, nutrition, shelter, protection, and water, sanitation, and hygiene assistance. This includes support for the treatment and prevention of acute malnutrition.

Samantha Power - ranked right up there with Susan Rice and Valerie Jarrett, she epitomizes the paper-thin facade of the Obamanites that infest the administration.. Consider this 2011 Washington Examiner article as a premonition of what she has been since, and remember SHE was, as the UN Ambassador, suspected to be one of the of the major violators of the FISA 702 system during the end of the term.
