Sorry OP:
Elke Sommer (born 5 November 1940), born Elke Schletz, is a German-born actress, entertainer, and artist.
Sommer was born in Berlin to a Lutheran Minister and his wife. After the war, the family was evacuated to Erlangen, a small university town in the south of Germany, where, despite their lack of money, she attended the prestigious Gymnasium (high school) in Erlangen. However her father's death when she was 14 precluded further formal education, and she moved to England to be an au pair, to perfect her English and earn a living.
But she did stay at a Holiday Inn Express and she speaks seven languages.
Taliban commander Haji Adam was killed in a "precise air strike" in Kandahar's contested Maywand district. Adam was "directly involved in the movement of fighters, improvised explosive device production, and in the planning and execution of attacks," the International Security Assistance Force stated in a press release.
Adam was "also engaged in the illegal narcotics trade in the Sangin area of Helmand, using the profits to fund insurgent activity." Maywand borders the district of Sangin in neighboring Helmand province. He had "strong links to senior Taliban leaders Akhter Mohammed Mansour, Mullah Naim Barich and Attiqullah."
U.S. led coalition forces in Afghanistan killed 22 Taliban fighters including two commanders Tuesday in a string of operations across the east and south of the country following U.S. military controlled explosions which spread alarm in Kabul.
In two separate raids, one Taliban commander was killed in southern Kandahar province and two more insurgents were killed in neighboring Zabul province, the U.S. military said. The military did not say whether there were any casualties among the foreign troops. The Taliban could not be reached for comment and Reuters was unable to verify the military's accounts.
Eighteen fighters and a Taliban commander, Mullah Patang, were killed on Monday in the deadliest single operation at Kapisa, in the Tagab Valley, around 50 kilometers (31 miles) north of Kabul, said a spokesman, adding that ground troops called in air strikes during the raid. Coalition troops detained eight suspected militants during the operation, it said. U.S.-led forces accused Patang of being responsible for numerous attacks on civilians and coalition forces, and acting on orders from senior Taliban leaders in Afghanistan and abroad.

Whatever your politics, however you lean and however you feel about the current administration, this report is interesting.
As tragic as the loss of any member of the US Armed Forces is, consider the below statistics:
The annual fatalities, by any cause, of military members while actively serving in the armed forces from 1980 through 2006:
1980 2,392 (Carter)
1981 2,380 (Reagan)
1984 1,999 (Reagan)
1988 1,819 (Reagan)
1989 1,636 (George H W)
1990 1,508 (George H W)
1991 1,787 (George H W)
1992 1,293 (George H W)
1993 1,213 ( Clinton )
1994 1,075 ( Clinton )
1995 2,465 ( Clinton )
1996 2,318 ( Clinton )
1997 817 ( Clinton )
1998 2,252 ( Clinton )
1999 1,984 ( Clinton )
2000 1,983 ( Clinton )
2001 890 (George W)
2002 1,007 (George W)
2003 1,410 (George W)
2004 1,887 (George W)
2005 919 (George W)
2006 920 (George W)
2007 899 (George W)
Clinton years (1993-2000): 14,107 deaths
George W years (2001-2007): 7,932 deaths
Are you surprised when you look at these figures? They indicate the loss from the two latest Middle East conflicts are less than the loss of military personnel during Clinton 's presidency when America wasn't even involved in a war--unless you include Bosnia and Mogadishu , Somalia . (Remember "Blackhawk Down"?) Even more surprising is that in 1980, during Carter presidency, there were 2,392 US military fatalities!
These figures appear to indicate many members of our media and politicians pick and choose the information on which they report--that they present only those "facts" that support their agenda.
Consider the latest census of Americans. It shows the following distribution of American citizens by race:
European descent 69.12 percent
Hispanic 12.50 percent
Black 12.30 percent
Asian 3.70 percent
Native American 1.00 percent
Other 2.60 percent
Many members of the media lead us to believe the military death ratio is off balanced compared to the distribution by race in America . Here are the fatalities by race over the past three years in Iraqi Freedom.
European descent 74.31 percent
Hispanic 10.74 percent
Black 9.67 percent
Asian 1.81 percent
Native American 1.09 percent
Other 0.33 percent
Surprised again?
Hopefully, intelligent Americans can decipher--
the facts from the spin.
the spinners from the leaders.
those who seek even more power from those that seek justice.
the dividers from the uniters.
These statistics are published by the Congressional Research Service and may be confirmed at: www.fas.org/sgp/crs/natsec/RL32492.pdf
"History does not entrust the care of freedom to the weak or timid." Dwight D. Eisenhower
The argument is rather stupid too. In War and defending a country it is normal there are casualities.

What's your point dipshit.
The numbers don't lie, if you are inferring that Besoeker is bullshitting us you better have some pretty substantial documentation.

bigjim, not sure how they do things in kentucky, but it' a good idea to make sure yu don't look like an idiot before calling someone a dipshit.
As "Large Snerong7311" said, look at the ACTUAL file at www.fas.org/sgp/crs/natsec/RL32492.pdf
and learn that the numbers posted don't correspond to the actual data. Besoeker just fell victim to some good ol' fashioned fuzzy numbers. A the very least, if something looks fishy, it probably is--a good lesson to keep in mind.

Pakistani security forces have killed at least 60 Taliban militants in the Mohmand region near the Afghanistan border, the military says.
The militants were killed when the security forces pounded their hideouts with heavy artillery on Tuesday, a Press TV correspondent in Pakistan reported.
Fighter jets bombed several suspected hideouts of the Taliban militants in the area of northwestern Pakistan, the military said.
Violence has intensified in the tribal areas since Pakistan deployed troops near its border with Afghanistan to fight against the militants.
Pakistan's tribal areas became the scene of pitched battles after former Pakistani military ruler Pervez Musharraf joined the Bush administration's 'war on terror'.
More, from Geo News The Security Forces have killed 60 militants during the last 24 hours operation in Mohmand Agency. The FC press release issued here Tuesday night said that in the ongoing operation in Mohmand Agency, the Frontier Corps troops advanced and secured Road Darwazgai Lakaro-Mamad Gatt.
In the process, militants strongholds of Habibzai and Mulakhel were destroyed. In this operation, sixty hardcore militants (22 yesterday and 38 today) have been killed in the last twenty-four hours.
Important militant commanders named Umar Khitab, Qari Mumtaz, Haroon Rashid, Bilal, Yaqub, Yar Said, Yusuf and Hamza were killed.

Pakistani artillery only hits fighters, unlike American and Israeli rounds which almost exclusively hit women and children. This is why the Pakistani armed forces are #1 in the world and are at a technologically superior level to those of your country or mine, g(r)omgoru.

A series of blasts across Iraq have killed five people and injured at least 14 others.
Tuesday's attacks were carried out in Baghdad, Mosul and al-Zubair, which lies near the oil-rich southern city of Basra, police sources said.
Three civilians were killed and eight others injured after a car bomb targeting a US patrol exploded in the central Baghdad district of Mansour. The US military said two of its soldiers were among the injured.
Police colonel Abdulmajid Mohammed was killed after a bomb planted under his car exploded as he drove to work in al-Zubair. His driver, also a police officer, survived the explosion but was said to be in a critical condition in hospital.
In another attack, Ammar Aziz Mohammed Ali, the deputy higher education minister, survived an assassination attempt in Baghdad. "A roadside bomb blew up as the ... minister's convoy was passing down al-Nidhal Street in central Baghdad without hurting him," a government-issued statement said.
Two civilians and two police officers were wounded by the blast, according to an interior ministry source.
Also on Tuesday, Iraqi police said a real-estate agent was shot dead after unknown assailants opened fire on his office in the city of Mosul, which lies around 370km north of Baghdad.
Another police officer was left wounded after security forces opened fire on a suspected suicide bomber who refused to stop as he approached a police checkpoint. The police said it was unclear if the explosion was a result of gunfire from security forces or if the driver had detonated any explosive devices.

Another senior Iraqi education official has escaped assassination while travelling to central Baghdad on Tuesday, the government said in a statement.
Two civilians and three guards were injured when a roadside bomb hit the convoy of Higher Education Ministry undersecretary Ammar Aziz Mohammad Ali, police said.
The undersecretary was not hurt in the bombing.
Last Thursday, the Minister of Higher Education escaped injury when a roadside bomb exploded near his convoy in the same district.

cannon balls? like the ones in WW I. and the civil war?
#2
There weren't any cannonballs used in WWI, all artillery other than mortars was rifled and used shells much like those still in use today.
This seems to be a translation problem. They probably mean artillery shells of some sort. "Anti-shields missiles" sounds like antitank missiles or rockets.
Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi army forces on Tuesday detained five wanted men during a security operation in northern Mosul, according to a security source. "A force from the 3rd brigade of the Iraqi army on Tuesday (Jan. 20) waged a security raid in al-Qahera neighborhood in northern Mosul, where it arrested five wanted men," the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He did not add more details.
Meanwhile, the same source said that the force managed to defuse a roadside bomb in al-Arabi neighborhood in northern Mosul, noting that the operation ended without casualties.

The Israel Air Force on Tuesday evening bombed a target in the Gaza Strip used earlier in the day Palestinian militants to fire eight mortar shells at Israel.
Militants on Tuesday also opened fire at Israel Defense Forces soldiers in Gaza in two separate incidents, in the first violation of a shaky cease-fire in the coastal strip that ended Israel's 3-week offensive against Hamas. No IDF soldiers were wounded in the incidents, one of which took place near the Kissufim border crossing, and the other in the center of the Strip. In one of the incidents the troops returned fire. Didja ever notice that the Paleo bully boyz just love lugging firearms around with them, love waving them around whilst they're grimacing fearsomely, but that they seldom actually hit anything with them?
Also Tuesday, Gaza militants in the Gaza Strip fired a mortar shell toward Israel, the IDF said. But police reported that it looked like the projectile never reached Israel. They're not real good with mortars, either...
Earlier in the day, Israeli security forces backtracked on an earlier report of a firing. The military said a warning siren that went off was a false alarm.
On Monday, IDF officers supervising the pullout of troops from Gaza were working to have the last soldier leave Gaza on Tuesday before the inauguration of United States President Barack Obama at around 6 P.M. Israel time. The IDF was expected Tuesday to begin discharging many of the reservists drafted two weeks ago under emergency call-up orders. Troops began significantly reducing their presence in the Gaza Strip as early as Saturday night, immediately after Israel declared the unilateral cease-fire which put an end to Operation Cast Lead. The troops took key positions around the Strip, poised to reenter if and when ordered. That's actually excellent strategy, the kind we should emulate: go in, bonk heads and break things, then leave immediately. Let the locals and the oil ticks worry about repairs.
IDF sources said that the peace was maintained despite alleged orders by Hamas leadership in Damascus for their operatives in Gaza to carry out attacks against IDF forces. Israeli officers said that the militants had chosen to ignore the order. Hamas militants on Monday took steps to avoid violating the cease-fire, not firing any rockets into Israel and not attacking the IDF troops still stationed in the Strip.

As I understand it, 85% of building in Gaza are still standing.
Iran has begun an internal probe to examine why the Gaza-based Hamas terrorist organization failed with its numerous rocket barrages to destroy southern Israeli communities or wound more IDF soldiers during Operation Cast Lead. What's the Aryan word for "ineptitude"?
The Islamic Republic, which has underwritten the cost of training and arming most of Gaza's terrorists, announced plans to ship long-range Fajr missiles into the region to resupply Hamas's depleted arsenal. If fired from Gaza, Fajr missiles, with a range of 70 kilometers (43 miles), would be capable of reaching Tel Aviv and elsewhere in the Gush Dan central region.

Why isn't this considered a declaration of war?
Israel should be within its rights to destroy, out of hand, any Iranian weapons shipment into Gaza along with any Iranians that come with it.

IIRC the Iranians never come with the weapons- they have their training camps inside Iran and bring the fighters to them for training. Clever or cowardly? Or both...

Why isn't this considered a declaration of war?
Because it's just one of many in recent years, and Israel hasn't retaliated yet. When Israel does, I'm sure this will be on the list. Don't count on AP, Rooters, or Al Guardian to remember it though.
It is also too big to ignore. While the Israeli government can treat Katyushas and the occasional Grad landing in the desert as an annoyance, missiles falling in Tel Aviv will demand a response. Note to HamAss: don't be surprised when the IDF shows up for the final time.
