23 killed in central Somalia clan violence
Mogadishu -- At least 23 people been killed in Somalia in clan-related violence caused by a land dispute, officials and elders said. The clashes between armed militia from two groups broke out around the villages of Burdhinle and Hada-Ogle, situated in central Somalia’s Hiiran region and close to the border with Ethiopia.

“The fighting was heavy and the clan militias used BFGs armed vehicles. Twenty-three are so far confirmed dead but the toll could be higher,” local elder Osman Ahmed told AFP by telephone from the region.

Another elder, Abdule Muhamed, said both sides were heavily armed and that fighting was continuing.

Fighting between the Dir and Hawadle clans started late last year but had been stopped after the Somali national army and African Union peacekeepers from Djibouti intervened.

Somali government officials in the Hiiran region confirmed the clashes.

Suicide Attack in Somalia Targeted Turkish Government Convoy
Now that's a car kaboom...
MOGADISHU -- A suicide car bomber killed at least six people in Somalia’s capital on Thursday police said, in an attack apparently aimed at a Turkish government convoy in town ahead of a presidential visit.

The strike came the day before Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was due to visit the turbulent East African country. Turkey has invested heavily in Somalia’s infrastructure, betting the projects could help guide an economic turnaround for the volatile nation.

The militant group al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack. Ali Mohamud Rage, a spokesman for the group, said they specifically targeted Turkish officials.

A car loaded with explosives rammed a convoy transporting Turkish foreign ministry officials around 2:45 p.m. local time, according to Somali police spokesman Col. Qasim Roble. He said five Somali policemen, one civilian and the attacker were killed. No Turkish nationals were among the fatalities, he said.

The attack occurred at the front gate of a new hotel near the presidential compound called SYL, home to number of Somali government ministers and visiting foreign diplomats, including members of the Turkish delegation currently in Mogadishu. The Turkish president was scheduled to visit the hotel on Friday.

“It was a barbaric attack and it will not frighten us from going forward,” Somali Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid said after visiting the site.

A Somali minister who was inside the hotel at the time of the attack said the explosion ripped through the front entrance of the hotel.

“I am safe but I can see dead bodies, and the wall of the front gate of my hotel is totally down,” said Mohamed Muktar, the minister for fisheries and marine resources.

Speaking from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Ankara was investigating whether the blast was a deliberate attack on the country’s interests, but insisted Mr. Erdogan would press ahead with plans to visit the Somali capital. A Turkish presidential official said they would not share any details of Mr. Erdogan’s program for security reasons. Mr. Erdogan is currently in Ethiopia at the start of a three-day tour of the Horn of Africa.

“Whether or not it was targeting us is not yet clear,” Mr. Davutoglu said. “When we last visited [Somalia] the situation was difficult, but we are determined to remain committed to Africa despite the risks.”

Thursday’s blast came hours after Turkish media reported that Mogadishu had been “locked down” ahead of the visit, with a key highways linking the airport to the city center sealed off. Turkish officials said Mr. Erdogan was planning to visit several projects in the capital funded by Turkish aid, including a new airport, sea port and a new hospital.

Gunmen Kill Security Chief in Libya's Sirte
[AnNahar] Armed men rubbed out Thursday the head of security in the Islamist-held coastal city of Sirte, hometown of slain dictator Moamer Qadaffy, a security source said.

Colonel Senussi Kaiba was killed along with his driver when gunnies shot up their car in a residential area of the city, the source said.

Security services were placed on high alert and a manhunt launched for the assailants who fled after the attack, the source added.

Two days earlier a local administration official escaped unhurt after gunnies shot up him in a similar attack.

Yemen prez, govt quit
[EDITION.CNN] After days of turmoil, Yemen's President, Prime Minister and Cabinet have stood down, leaving the troubled Middle Eastern nation without clear leadership and potentially on the brink of armed conflict.

President Abdurabu Mansour Hadi
...the second and possibly the last president of Yemen, successor to former President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh...
's resignation Thursday came after Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to Americaâ¢, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels kidnapped his chief of staff, seized control of key government buildings in the capital, Sanaa, and failed to abide by provisions of a tentative peace deal hammered out Wednesday.

The chaos in Yemen is cause for concern far beyond the country's borders.

Citizen shot trying to storm govt building
[ARABNEWS] Security officers shot and injured a 40-year-old Saudi man trying to storm a building housing security agencies in Madinah on Thursday morning.

Col. Fahd Al-Ghanam, front man of the Madinah Police Department, said the man ignored several checkpoints as he drove his car onto the grounds of the building on the Madinah-Tabuk road.

Al-Ghanam said the man also ignored warning shots fired by security officers at the checkpoint. This forced officers to shoot at his tires. When he still did not stop, they shot up him.

He has now been transferred to a hospital after receiving "urgent medical treatment" by the Red Islamic Thingy.

The security authorities in Madinah have launched an investigation into the incident. Al-Ghanam was not available for further comment at the time of going to press.

Agents from Lebanon, Denmark Recruiting Suicide Bombers to Carry Out Attacks
[AnNahar] Several agents are recruiting jihadists to carry out suicide kabooms in Leb and Syria as the latest report says that a man, who resides in Denmark, is suspected of brainwashing youth to join bad boy organizations.

Zakaria is also known as Abou Abdul Rahman al-Ansari and nicknamed as Abou Yehya. He hails from the northern district of Akkar.

Al-Akhbar continues it report with mentioning several other suspected suicide bombers, pointing out that the followers of Khaled Hoblos, whose group was involved in festivities with the army in the town of Bhannine in Akkar in October, are recruiting jihadists.

Front and the IS group.

The newspaper also revealed that several members linked to the IS group are currently taking the southern Paleostinian refugee camp of Ein el-Hellhole as their hideout.

The FO spokesperson also said that the Haqqani Network has also been banned, however, she added that the organization does not have bank accounts in Pakistain. She further reiterated that the decision has been taken in Pakistain's own interest and not due to external pressure.

The Haqqani Network, founded by Afghan warlord Jalaluddin Haqqani, has been blamed for some of the most deadly attacks on US-led foreign forces in Afghanistan was designated as a terrorist organization by the United States in September 2012.

An interior ministry official a day earlier confirmed to Dawn.com that Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and the Haqqani network are in the list of proscribed outfits. However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...
the government showed reluctance to announce the curb in an official capacity.

Talking to Dawn.com, an interior ministry official said the United States had sought a ban on the Haqqani network and the Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) but the matter was being delayed.

According to the documents available with Dawn.com, the interior ministry has added Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami, Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation, Ummah Tameer-e-Nau, Haji Khairullah Hajji Sattar Money Exchange, Rahat Limited, Roshan Money Exchange, Al Akhtar Trust, Al Rashid Trust, Haqqani network and Jamaat-ud-Dawa to the list of proscribed organizations.

He said the government had already directed the departments concerned to take immediate steps to freeze the assets of the banned outfits, including the Haqqani Network and JuD.

Four hostages freed in South Waziristan
[DAWN] Kidnappers freed four people in northwestern Pakistain's South Wazoo tribal region on Thursday, a security official said.

The four, who were among the 10 kidnapped from Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
's Killa Saifullah district early this month, hail from the province's Quetta and Zhob districts.

The official, who requested anonymity, told Dawn that the kidnappers freed the four in South Waziristan's Zarmilan area.

"It was not entirely clear how they were set free or how their release was secured," the official said.

Armed Lions of Islam had kidnapped 10 people from Killa Saifullah on Jan 4 this year. The captors had killed an official of the Pakistain Air Force who was among the kidnapped and had freed two hostages. Three people were still in the kidnappers' custody.

Security forces had also launched operations in Zhob, Killa Saifullah, Sherani and Loralai districts of Balochistan to ensure the hostages' safe recovery.

The forces had also detained some suspects in connection with the kidnapping.

Zhob serves as a transit point for Lions of Islam operating in Pakistain's volatile northwestern tribal belt where the army is acting to root out local and foreign Death Eater groups.

Attack foiled in Wah: Police trying to decode suicide bomber's note
[DAWN] TAXILA: Officials of law enforcement agencies and police are trying to unscramble a code which was found scribbled on a piece of paper recovered from the pocket of a jacket wallah.

The man got off a bus and went kaboom! with a hand grenade when the bus was stopped at a police picket on Grand Trunk (GT) Road near Mughal Garden, Wah, on Monday. The piece of paper with the number 21110 written on it was recovered from him along with Rs7,000 in cash, a pair of sunglasses and two pieces of clothing.

A police investigator told Dawn that officials from different agencies have joined hands with police to crack this code.

They believe that this number could be a code for a possible target - a place or a person. The investigator said that the officials are trying to solve the mystery with the help of information which has already been gathered from faceless myrmidons in police custody.

Moreover, police have identified the bomber as Mohammad Asif, and traced his village in Fatehjang tehsil of Attock district.

Police sources said some of his family members had been picked up and shifted to some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location for interrogation. Police are also interrogating the bus driver, a resident of Charsadda, and his Afghan assistant.

Wah Saddar police have started the paperwork but haven't done much else against the bomber and the officials who foiled the terrorist attack - Sub-Inspector Ashraf, Assistant Superintendent Babar, Head Constable Zaffar Iqbal, Constable Amjad and Constable Mukhtar - were nominated for gallantry awards.

Six Khorasani group suspects arrested in pre-dawn raid
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: Security forces raided a house in the Pindorian suburbs in the early hours of Wednesday and placed in durance vile
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
six persons suspected of having links with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP), sources told Dawn.

"They were being tracked for a couple of weeks and were found in a terrorist hideout in the Shahzad Town police precinct," the sources said, confiding that the six belonged to the Khorasani group of the Mohmand Agency
... Named for the Mohmand clan of the Sarban Pahstuns, a truculent, quarrelsome lot. In Pakistain, the Mohmands infest their eponymous Agency, metastasizing as far as the plains of Peshawar, Charsadda, and Mardan. chapter of the TTP.

Nothing "worth mentioning" was recovered from the suspects by the raiding party, which included paramilitary elements, and they were taken to some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location for further interrogation.

They arrived in the federal capital recently and were hiding in the house. Their arrest is considered a 'great success' as hopefully they will help the security forces reach other gunnies who might have infiltrated the twin cities and their adjacent areas, said the sources.

Early this month Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan

- and before him Islamabad Inspector General of Police Tahir Alam Khan - had told media about the "presence of terrorists" in the federal capital.

In fact, the local intelligence department had alerted the authorities concerned about a year ago that hard boyz may be arriving here, mingled with the IDPs leaving North Wazoo before the military launched its Operation Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
against the TTP elements.

Vigilance had been intensified at bus terminals in the capital in the wake of the December 16 schoolchildren massacre in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
. Capital police have also been watching vehicles and passengers arriving into the city and gathering intelligence.

Police picked up 80 suspects in search operations they conducted in Kohsar, Margalla, Shalimar, Ramna, Golra and Tarnol precincts.

[DAWN] KARACHI: A religious teacher was rubbed out in a targeted attack soon after he came out of a mosque in Azizabad on Wednesday afternoon, the police said.
Somebody objected to his child being molested?
They added that when 27-year-old Sohaib Badar came out of the Madani mosque near Ayesha Manzil, Federal B. Area, Block-7, after offering Zuhar prayer, armed motorcyclists attacked him and fled.

He sustained critical wounds and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead

It appeared to be a assassination incident, Azizabad SHO Asim Rahman said.

He added that the victim belonged to the Deobandi school of thought and was a religious scholar associated with the Tableeghi Jamaat.

However,

Definitely child molestation, then.

Two suspects killed in 'encounter'

Two suspects were rubbed out in an alleged encounter on Shahrah-e-Noorjahan in the early hours of Wednesday, the police said.

They added that the suspects were riding a cycle of violence when a police party on patrol reached near the Abdullah College roundabout in North Nazimabad.

On seeing the police, the suspects tried to flee and opened fire. The coppers went after them and an encounter ensued in which both suspects were bumped off, Gulberg SP Chaudary Asad Ali said.

The bodies were taken to the Edhi morgue for want of identification after medico-legal formalities at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The police claimed to have seized a motorbike and two pistols from their possession.

Shopkeeper killed

A shopkeeper was rubbed out by suspected gangsters in Kalakot on Wednesday evening over suspicion of being an 'informer', the police said.

They added that Mohammed Ali was sitting at his shop when gunnies attacked him and fled.

The victim and a passer-by, Abdul Rasheed, sustained bullet wounds and were taken to the Civil Hospital Bloody Karachi

Kalakot SHO Safdar Mashwani suspected that the shopkeeper was killed by members of the Uzair Baloch group over suspicion of being an informer of law enforcers.

Protesters raze seminary after man's killing
[DAWN] CHARSADDA: Enraged people demolished a religious seminary and adjacent fishing hut built on a graveyard here after a man was killed when the madressah administrator and his men opened fire on the protesters on Wednesday.

Police said that the people were protesting against the holy man after he disallowed funeral prayers and burial of a man in the graveyard of Turangzai area the other day. They said that the holy man had set up a seminary, Afzal Darul Uloom, and a fishing hut on the graveyard.

Police said that the local people and the seminary administrator, Peer Ashfaq, exchanged harsh words after which the holy man and his men opened fire which resulted into the death of one person named Khial Mohammad, resident of Khat Koruna.

Following the killing, the angry people stormed the seminary, emptied it of the copies of the holy Koran and other books and belongings of students, and then set it and the fishing hut on fire. They also pulled down the walls of the seminary and burnt down the furniture.

The protesting mob then placed the body on the road, blocking it for traffic.

The local people told Dawn that Turangzai graveyard was their oldest and legitimate burial place, where Peer Ashfaq had illegally set up a fishing hut and a seminary.

Charsadda DCO Shafiullah Khan along with police officials and assistant commissioner Nek Mohammad reached the spot, and held negotiations with the protesters after which the people ended the road blockade.

Later, they buried the man in the graveyard, while police placed in durance vile
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
the seminary administrator and another person.

Police officials told news hounds that FIR had been registered and that action would be taken against those responsible for the incident.

Levies man shot dead in Bajaur
[DAWN] Unknown gunnies rubbed out a Levies man near Sarkai post in Mamond tehsil of Bajaur Agency, aka Turban Central
...Smallest of the agencies in FATA. The Agency administration is located in Khar. Bajaur is inhabited almost exclusively by Tarkani Pashtuns, which are divided into multiple bickering subtribes. Its 52 km border border with Afghanistan's Kunar Province makes it of strategic importance to Pakistain's strategic depth...
here on Wednesday evening.

Sources said that unknown miscreants opened fire on Sepoy Khaliq Khan of Bajaur Levies while he was taking food from his home to his other colleagues on duty at the Sarkai security post along the Afghan border. He was struck down in his prime. No group has grabbed credit for the attack.

After the killing, the security forces and Levies personnel cordoned off the area and started search operation. However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
there were no reports of any arrests till filing of this report.

Family members of the dear departed said that they had no enmity with anybody and that the motive behind the attack was yet to be ascertained.

However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
official sources said that faceless myrmidons could be behind the attack as the security forces, including the Levies, had been jointly conducting search operation and making raids on turban hideouts for the last few days in Banda area of Salarzai tehsil.

Iraq
U.S.: Coalition Aircraft Pound IS in Northern Iraq
[AnNahar] U.S.-led aircraft hammered Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
murderous Moslems in northern Iraq over the past 24 hours, the American military said Thursday, as Kurdish forces pressed an offensive against the jihadists in the area.

U.S. and coalition bombers, fighter jets and drones carried out a total of 31 air raids since Wednesday morning, including ten in Syria and 21 in Iraq, according to the American military command overseeing "Operation Inherent Resolve" out of headquarters in Kuwait.

The raids coincided with a ground offensive by Kurdish forces against the IS group, with Kurdish officials claiming they had cut a key road linking the IS stronghold of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
with Tal Afar to the west.

Near Mosul, coalition planes struck IS units, buildings, a mortar team, six culverts, two bridges, artillery, a vehicle outfitted with a homemade bomb, heavy weapons and four armored vehicles, the command said. Allied warplanes also carried out two strikes near Tal Afar, two near Sinjar and one near Kirkuk.

In Syria, U.S. and coalition aircraft conducted one strike near Raqqa and nine strikes near the Turkish border town of Kobane, which the IS group has been unable to capture despite a months-long offensive.

U.S. commanders say the air war -- launched in August in Iraq and in September in Syria -- has halted the advance of the IS group in Iraq, hampered its movement, undercut its oil smuggling and jeopardized its supply lines. However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
the jihadists remain in control of a large stretch of territory across Syria and Iraq and continue to recruit new fighters.

Suicide Attack Kills Seven North of Baghdad
[AnNahar] A suicide kaboom in the Taji area, north of the Iraqi capital, killed at least seven people and maimed 17 on Thursday, security and medical officials said.

It was not immediately clear if the target was the area's sprawling military base or an entrance to Taji itself, and the number of jacket wallahs was unknown.

U.S. military trainers are based at Taji, helping to instruct some 1,600 Iraqi soldiers in a six-week program aimed at readying them to face the Islamic State

(IS) jihadist group.

There was no immediate claim for the attack, but suicide kabooms are a tactic almost exclusively employed by Sunni bad boy groups in Iraq, including IS.

Half of Daesh leaders killed in strikes: US
London -- Iraq and its international partners have made significant gains in the fight against Daesh, killing thousands of the group’s fighters and 50 per cent of its leadership, Unites States Secretary of State John Kerry said on Thursday.
Hard to believe that one, Jahwn. We haven't been conducting air strikes with near the intensity or frequency required. And ISIS is a lot bigger than you think.
At an anti-Daesh coalition meeting in London, Kerry also said Iraqi ground troops backed by almost 2,000 air strikes had retaken 700 square kilometres square of territory from Daesh.

He said the number of Daesh terrorists killed was in the ‘single digit’ thousands.

But the US diplomat said the coalition “can do better” at stopping the extremist group’s flow of funds and foreign fighters and the global spread of its message.

Kerry met British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al Abadi and officials from 21 countries at a one-day London conference intended to seal the cracks in the international coalition against the extremist group, which controls a large swath of Syria and Iraq.

Abadi has complained recently that weapons and ammunition have not been reaching Iraqi forces fast enough and accused the world of stalling on commitments to train Iraqi troops.

“We are in this almost on our own,” he told the Associated Press on Wednesday. “There is a lot being said and spoken, but very little on the ground.”

But after Thursday’s meeting he said, “I have asked people for more support and I think my call didn’t go unnoticed.”

The London talks brought together officials from several Arab and Gulf states including the UAE, European nations, Turkey, Australia and Canada, as well as the US and Britain. They focused on what can be done to cut off Daesh’s funding, stop the spread of its propaganda and stem the flow of foreign fighters to its ranks.

The meeting also allowed Iraq and its allies to present a united front after Al Abadi’s complaints and Hammond’s remarks earlier on Thursday that Iraqi forces were in a “state of disarray” and “it will be months yet before they are ready to start significant combat operations” against the extremists.

Speaking alongside Hammond and the Iraqi premier after the meeting, Kerry said Daesh had been “halted ... and in some cases reversed” in Iraq, despite the fact that a large area and the major city of Mosul remain in the militants’ control.

Another potential obstacle is falling oil prices, which Abadi said had been ‘disastrous’ for Iraq’s budget.

“We don’t want to see a reverse of our military victory due to our budget and fiscal problems,” he said.

Hammond assured him that would not happen. “This campaign is not going to fail for the want of some guns or some bullets in the hands of the Iraqi security forces,” he said.

According to an informed source in Mosul, members of the ISIS organization dragged the âconvicted young peopleâ to the big sports arena in Yarmouk neighborhood, and read out a statement confirming that the death penalty was a result of âwatching something forbidden, coming from the west (the football game),â before shooting them dead.

The source, who requested not be identified, added, âAges of the executed did not exceed 18 years. Their bodies were left in the arena, and their parents could not pull them out fearing arrest by the ISIS members, as punishment for leaving their children watching the game.â

The coppers were able to take control of the Paleostinian man and found that he was armed with an additional knife after they searched him. No individuals were maimed during the incident. The Paleostinian man was taken in for further questioning.
A double failure, then: he got caught sneaking in, and he failed to kill the police on the way to escaping. Or possibly a triple failure, depending how one counts it.

IS Releases Arsal Residents Kidnapped Two Days Ago

bully boyz released on Thursday two men they had kidnapped in the northeastern border town of Arsal two days ago, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Ali Riyad Ezzeddine and Mustafa Hassan Zaarour were kidnapped in Arsal's outskirts on Tuesday, NNA said without giving further details.

Reports had said that the two Arsal residents were kidnapped over a money-related dispute with a Syrian merchant.

A day earlier, assailants from the IS kidnapped Younes al-Hujeiri, another Arsal resident who owns a stone quarry, in the area of Wadi Hmeid.

His fate is still unknown.

IS and al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra
...the current nom de guerre of al-Qaeda in the Levant, which isn't to be confused with al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Levant...
Front bully boyz are hiding in the mountains on the mostly non-existent border area between Leb and Syria.

In August, they overran Arsal and engaged in bloody gunbattles with the Lebanese army.

The fighters took with them hostages from the military and police and later executed four of them.
Local civilians must be quicker to pay the required ransom than is the Lebanese government.

Army Dismantles Explosives-Rigged Vehicle, Foiled Gunmen Infiltration in Arsal
[AnNahar] A vehicle rigged with explosives was discovered at the entrance of the northeastern border town of Arsal, while a gunnies infiltration attempt was foiled announced by the army on Thursday.

A military expert soon arrived at the scene and defused the bomb.

The statement said that the Army Intelligence discovered the black Kia vehicle, which was parked near a military post in the Ain al-Shaab region.

It said that around 25 kilograms of explosives were found in the car that did not have license plates.

On January 15, the army seized a booby-trapped car containing around 120 kilograms of explosives in Arsal.

On September 11, the army dismantled a booby-trapped car containing 100 kilograms of explosives in the same region.

In recent months, the outskirts of Arsal have been witnessing near-daily festivities between the army and Syria-based jihadist groups, which had stormed the town in early August and engaged in deadly battles with the army. They also took hostage around 35 troops and coppers.

The state-owned National New Agency stated that "the army foiled an attempt by gunnies to infiltrate into Wadi al-Hosn posts using rocket launchers which left two gunnies killed."

Syria Regime Barrel Bombs Kill 13 in Homs
[AnNahar] Thirteen people were killed in Syrian government raids using barrel bombs dropped by helicopter on a rebel-held area of central Homs province, a monitor said on Thursday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said two children were among the dead in the Wednesday attack on Hula.

The Britannia-based group said new raids using barrel bombs were carried out in the provinces of Homs and northwestern Idlib on Thursday, but there was no immediate toll.

The Syrian government has regularly deployed the devastating bombs in rebel-held areas across the country, particularly opposition-held parts of Aleppo province.

Rights groups have criticized the bombs -- crudely constructed devices made of barrels packed with explosives -- as indiscriminate, citing the large number of civilians killed by them.

Syrian regime forces control most of central Homs province, with a few exceptions, including Hula and the town of Rastan.

Elsewhere in the province Wednesday, at least seven people were killed and 30 injured in a boom-mobile targeting a government-controlled district in Homs city, the provincial governor said.

The Observatory gave a higher toll, saying 10 people had been killed.

The blast hit the Akrameh neighborhood, which is majority Alawite, the sect to which Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
belongs.

The district has been targeted multiple times, including in October, when a double kaboom killed 54 people, among them 47 children.

More than 200,000 people have been killed in the Syrian conflict since it began in March 2011.
