In the meantime, provincial officials in Khost province ... across the border from Miranshah, within commuting distance of Haqqani hangouts such as Datta Khel and probably within sight of Mordor. Khost is populated by six different tribes of Pashtuns, the largest probably being the Khostwal, from which it takes its name... claim to have arrested a number of smugglers in the province who intended to smuggle dollars to Pakistain.
It comes after the interim government of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan directed security officials to arrest those who smuggle dollars out of Afghanistan and hold them countable as national traitors.
The economic commission of the IEA led by Deputy PM Abdul Salaam Hanafi made the decision after Afghani (currency) exchanged for its lowest cost ever.
The devaluation of the local currency doubled the prices of foodstuff and oil that worsened the already disastrous humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
It is believed that smugglers buy dollars in Kabul and smuggle it out of Afghanistan which leads to a lack of dollars in cash and thus devaluation of local currency.

Hamdullah Muhib in an exclusive interview with Radio Free of Afghanistan said that the real collapse of the Afghan government started after the US and the Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... inked the Doha agreement in February 2019.

"Election and Loya Jirga were the two options that were planned to be suggested to the Taliban for power-sharing." He added.
About the resistance, Muhib said that he consulted the former Defense Minister Bismillah Muhammadi on whether to continue resistance but Muhammadi had told him that it was of no use.
Hamdullah Muhib called on the Taliban to establish an all-inclusive government and add to their government those who do not share the Taliban’s ideology.

"At least 95 percent of people are in grave need, currently. There is no need for a survey. A lot of them are affected by the drought," said Mullah Nooruddin Torabi, deputy head of the Afghan Red Islamic Thingy Society.
According to the Afghan Red Islamic Thingy, the Saudis will also provide 100 trucks of aid to Afghanistan. The trucks will bring aid to Afghanistan via Pakistain.
Economists said that such aid is not sufficient for Afghanistan in the long term.
"This aid can alleviate poverty for a short time but to tackle the problems in the long term, the world should engage with Afghanistan," said Abdul Naseer Rishtia.

[CIS] MPP continues, and the Biden administration should be chastened
The Biden administration has already reinstated MPP — with conditions and limitations, as I explained on December 3. The government could always seek to have the full Fifth Circuit review this decision en banc, with all 17 judges considering the matter, but it has not had much luck there lately.
The court was not pleased with the way the administration presented this case. The government had requested that the Fifth Circuit vacate the district court’s judgment and remand it back, an equitable — as opposed to legal — remedy. The circuit court held that "DHS’s litigation tactics" — issuing the October 29 MPP termination redo while the case was on appeal — "tilt the equities decidedly against vacatur".
What the administration has received instead is more bad precedent in a court where it already had plenty. The president should learn from this matter, however, and start applying the INA as written, and follow Congress’s mandates therein. If the administration’s not chastened by this matter, it should be.

Four women were among the 21 who left Kerala to join the ISKP in Afghanistan.
Earlier this month, the NIA court in Kochi sentenced a Wayanad native to 5 years imprisonment for travelling to Afghanistan in an attempt join the ISIS. Nashidul Hamzafar, 29, a resident of Kalpetta, pleaded guilty to the charges.
The ISIS menace in India has been more in the southern part of the country. The National Investigation said that it has arrested as many as 1168 accused in 37 cases related to the Islamic State.
Chargesheets have been filed in 31 cases and 27 were convicted after trial.

Since 2019 several have died and today as per the US report the known number of Indian Islamic State snuffies stands at 66.
Out of the 127 Indians who joined the ISIS, 21 are from Kerala. The figures for the rest of the country are Uttar Pradesh (1(, Telangana (14), Maharashtra (12), Karnataka (8) and Delhi (7).

Iraqi Kurds and the government of Iraq: BFFs for now...

[BenarNews] Human traffickers have tried to smuggle in undocumented migrant workers by sea almost every day since May 2020, Malaysia’s coasties chief said Friday, after nearly two dozen Indonesians died when their boat sank off Johor state earlier this week.
As of Friday, the corpse count had reached 21, while 13 had been rescued and 16 were missing from the boat that sank in the waters of Tanjung Balau, the Malaysian coasties and Indonesian officials reported.
"Such an unfortunate tragedy can be avoided if illegal immigrants colonists and human trafficking syndicates do not conspire to smuggle people into the country through illegal routes by risking their lives during bad weather," said Mohd Zubil Mat Som, director-general of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.
In this latest incident at sea, the waves were as high as three to five meters and winds blew up to 50 kph, he said in a statement.
Mohd Zubil said the MMEA’s Malaysian Marine Surveillance System "had successfully detected 1,110 suspicious targets since May 2020, with 689 of them successfully expelled from Malaysian waters."
While border enforcement is strict, illegal immigrants colonists are willing to risk their lives to enter the country illicitly, Mohd Zubil said.
"Smuggling syndicates do not care, in fact they are always looking for space to make a profit without thinking about the risk of life," he said.
Tugs and other small boats often used by smugglers are not properly equipped to sail in rough waters, Mohd Zubil said.
"The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency hopes that this heartbreaking tragedy can be a lesson and open the eyes of illegal immigrants colonists and smuggling syndicates so that they do not risk their lives by entering through illegal means," he said.
Two ships and three boats belonging to the MMEA, the Royal Malaysian Navy and the Marine Police Force had been deployed for search-and-rescue operations in an area of 79 square nautical miles, said Capt. Simon Templer Lo Ak Tusa, the MMEA’s deputy director for operations in Johor state.
The authorities were also using helicopters from the Fire and Rescue Department and the Police Air Operations Force to conduct searches from the air covering an area of 135.8 square nautical miles.
The Indonesian Consulate General in Johor said efforts were under way to identify the victims.
In a media statement issued late Friday, the Consulate General noted that the corpse count had risen after a body was found floating in the sea and another victim died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
"As of Dec. 17, the number of victims was 21, namely 15 men and six women while the number of survivors was 13," according to a statement issued late Friday.
Three of the victims have been identified and their remains are to be sent back to Indonesia.
"For the 13 Indonesian survivors, they are in good condition and are currently in jug at the Malaysian Immigration Department in Johor," the statement said.
"Based on the verification process, nine of them are from Lombok while the rest are from Pekanbaru, Jember and Tanjung Balai Karimun."
The consulate said officials would ensure the health and rights of citizens in detention were maintained, and it urged all Indonesians to not enter or leave neighboring Malaysia illegally.
In August, the Malaysian government reported that it had repatriated nearly 90,000 undocumented migrants colonists, beginning in November 2020, under amnesty programs to send them to their home countries.
At that time, the Indonesian embassy estimated that about 2.7 million of its citizens were working in Malaysia but only 704,000 have the necessary documentation.

Israel has a nuclear deterrent. They have stated in the past the Samson Option: that if Israel is in danger of ceasing to exist, they will launch their nuclear weapons onto the capitals of Western Europe. So the Europeans will be motivated to fix this one for them.

I don't doubt Israel would go all Sampson on their Persian asses. That is just Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD) with a little Middle Eastern seasoning.
I'm skeptical, however, the Euros will do anything. From the Euro point of view, war takes care of two problems - Israel and Iran. As long as Euro-land can get fuel from Russia, they're golden.

I am more worried about a bomb of unknown source going off at ground level, say in some large city in the Middle East, not necessarily in Israel. Talk about "dread" or "confusion". The world wouldn't know whom to blame.

Winter is approaching and continuous humanitarian aid for the refugees must be ensured. The only way for aid to reach the rebel stronghold in Idlib province is via the Bab al-Hawa border crossing. But the authorization for the deliveries agreed by the USA and Russia expires on January 10.
