Pakistani Media: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Has a Significant Presence in Afghanistan
[KhaamaPress] Several thousand Tehrik-e-Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
Pakistain aka Pak Taliban fighters are reportedly preparing military attacks against Pak government forces on Afghan soil, according to Pak newspapers.

According to the Express Tribune, Pakistain Taliban fighters have assembled in Afghanistan for their long-running struggle against the Pak government, citing a report by the UN Security Council monitoring team on Friday.

According to the report, Pak Taliban fighters make up the majority of foreign combatants in Afghanistan.

The report emphasizes that the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) group benefits the most from the Taliban’s presence in Afghanistan, and that the Taliban’s rise to power has empowered them.

In a 25-page report, the UN Security Council described the presence of several thousand Pak Taliban fighters as a serious threat.

According to a UN report released recently, the al-Qaeda leader has also pledged his loyalty to the Taliban leader.

The report raises concern that the Taliban is once again turning Afghanistan into a terrorist "safe haven."

The Taliban, on the other hand, has refuted the allegations, claiming that no imported muscle are present in Afghanistan.

According to Ali Maysam Nazari, the Resistance® Front’s head of foreign relations, the Front’s forces killed more than 15 Taliban fighters on the outskirts of Panjshir yesterday.

The Taliban have yet to respond to the resistance’s assertion.

Tribal forces clash with Saudi troops near Ma’rib
[HODHODYEMENNEWS] Violent clashes erupted on Monday between Shabwah tribes and Saudi-led coalition forces recruits from the Al-Hassan tribes in Abidah valley southeast of Ma’rib city, tribal sources said.

The clashes broke out against the background of the killing of a recruit in Shabwah by Al-Qaeda.

The sources pointed out that the tribes were able to cut the main lines between Abidah valley and the city of Ma’rib, as well as the international line linking the city and Al-Abr area and the border crossing in Al-Wadeah.

The clashes resulted in deaths and injuries on both sides, the sources added.

Danish supreme court rejects Iraqi torture compensation

Denmark’s supreme court on Tuesday overturned a lower court ruling ordering the government to compensate 18 civilians tortured during the Iraq war in a joint operation by Iraqi forces and a Danish battalion.

A total of 23 Iraqi plaintiffs had sued Denmark after they were arrested and subjected to “torture and inhumane treatment” in 2004 during operation “Green Desert” near Iraq’s main port city of Basra.

The supreme court ruled that since the Danish troops neither took part in nor were aware of the torture, the defense ministry was not obliged to pay compensation.

An appeals court in Copenhagen had ruled in 2018 that although the Danish soldiers did not join in the torture, they failed to prevent the abuse.

It said they were aware the prisoners faced a “real risk” of being physically abused by the Iraqi security forces, and ordered the Danish state to pay 18 of them 30,000 Danish kroner ($4,300, 4,000 euros) in damages.

But the supreme court instead found “the Danish forces had no command over the Iraqi military and police forces, that the operation was Iraqi-led, and that the Danish forces’ participation in and conduct of the operation was in accordance with the mandate they were sent under.”

“The Danish forces had no concrete and current reason to believe that the Iraqi parties would be subjected to abuses,” the court said in a written statement.

It concluded therefore that “the defense ministry is not liable for assaults committed by Iraqi special forces following the military operation with the participation of Danish forces.”

Experts have said they hope the verdict will clarify what responsibility soldiers have when participating in military missions abroad.

The Grand Turk
Thomas West Meets Afghan Politicians, Civil Society in Istanbul
[ToloNews] The US special envoy for Afghanistan, Thomas West, held separate meetings with a number of Afghan figures including politicians, journalists and women activists in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
Some of the politicians who met with West said that overcoming the current Afghan crisis and the formation of an inclusive government were the main focus of the talks.

"The proposal of the High Council of Resistance® and Rescue of Afghanistan and politicians was to continue the Doha negotiation, reach a political path, an interim government, and an election," said Iqbal Safi, a former member of the parliament.
Negotiate with whom, exactly? The Taliban have already taken over, set up their “interim” government, and have no plans for an election.
The Islamic Emirate said the commission of "Return and Communications with Former Afghan Officials and Political Figures," will address the concerns of Afghans abroad.

"The Commission of Return and Communications with Former Afghan Officials and Political Figures was established for this purpose, to consider the problems of those who have concerns and compel them to return to the country," said Bilal Karimi, deputy front man for the Islamic Emirate.

The US special envoy has yet to make any comment about the meetings with the Afghan politicians, journalists and women's rights activists.

Earlier, West said he met with the chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah
...the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against both Karzai and Ghani. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun. He also held the meaningless salaried sop position as CEO of Afghanistan, while Ghani was president...

The question was asked the other day about where Dr. Abdullah Abdullah might currently be found. This appears to be the answer.
Muhammad Mohaqiq, leader of the People’s Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan said on Facebook that West had met with the representatives of political parties and members of the Resistance® Council.

The council was formed several days ago by the Afghan political parties that are in Turkey.

"This is a strong signal to the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
... that there should be an inclusive government that can represent the reality of Afghanistan," said Sayed Javad Sijadi, an international affairs analyst.

Although her sentence was for four years, 11 months and 20 days, party officials tell AFP she may well be released far sooner, as can happen for sentences shorter than five years.

Kaftancioglu, a doctor by profession, played a key role in the surprise victory of the CHP’s Istanbul mayoral candidate Ekrem Imamoglu in 2019 — the first time Erdogan’s party had lost power in Turkey’s biggest city for 25 years.

"I don't know what to say. She was my sister-in-law & was here 2 months back. She had said everything is fine and there is no threat to her. Suddenly sometime back she had said it was a little fearful. Today it became clear," said another relative of the teacher who was rubbed out.

Three Kashmiri Hindus have been targeted since March this year. Two of them --Satish Kumar Singh and Rahul Bhat, a revenue department employee - were killed in the attacks. IDF soldiers shoot Palestinian woman who approached them with knife in West Bank
[IsraelTimes] Military says incident south of Bethlehem appears to be a stabbing attempt; alleged attacker dies after being shot, says PA

A Paleostinian woman armed with a knife approached a soldier stationed in the southern West Bank before being shot and killed, the Israeli military and Paleostinian health officials said Wednesday morning.

The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that the woman was holding the knife in her hand as she neared a soldier close to the Al Aroub refugee camp, south of Bethlehem.

The military said that troops responded to the apparent attempted stabbing with gunfire.

The Paleostinian Authority Health Ministry identified the alleged attacker as Ghufran Haroun Hamed Warasneh, a former security detainee. The ministry said the bullet entered her body under her left arm and exited on the right side.

No Israelis were maimed in the incident.

Tensions have risen sharply between Israel and the Paleostinians in recent months against the backdrop of a number of terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank that left 19 dead.

The Israeli army stepped up its West Bank activities in an attempt to crack down on the spiraling violence. At least 30 Paleostinians have been killed since mid-March, many in festivities sparked by Israeli raids.

Some were button men involved in firefights with Israeli soldiers, while others took part in violent mostly peaceful festivities. Still others were apparently uninvolved bystanders.
Update from An Nahar at 4:30 p.m. ET:
The Palestinian health ministry said the woman died from a bullet to her torso, identifying her as Ghofran Warasnah. The Palestinians' official news agency Wafa said she was 31.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club said she was a journalist who had been imprisoned by Israel in the past.

Hamas cell commander given life sentence for 2019 slaying of student
[IsraelTimes] Court also orders Ahmad Asafra to pay $450,000 to Dvir Sorek’s family; in February he was found guilty, though not present at the time of the attack

An Israeli military court on Tuesday sentenced a Paleostinian man to life in prison for killing an Israeli teenager in 2019.

Ahmad Asafra was handed an additional 25-year sentence and ordered to pay NIS 1.5 million ($450,000) to the family of Dvir Sorek.

Sorek, 18, was stabbed to death near the West Bank settlement of Migdal Oz in August 2019. He was a yeshiva student enrolled in a program known as hesder that combines Torah study with military service. He was not in the military at the time of his killing.

In February, Asafra was convicted of intentionally causing the death of Sorek, as well as a series of security offenses. The main charge is equivalent to murder in the West Bank military court.

The court determined that Asafra was the commander of a Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede, terror cell that carried out the stabbing attack. The court accepted the prosecution’s position that Asafra was guilty of the attack, although he was not present at the time of the stabbing.

Another member of the cell, Yusef Zohar, was not present during the attack, but was convicted of a number of security offenses and was sentenced to life imprisonment plus 15 years.

In December, Qassem Asafra and Nasir Asafra were sentenced to life imprisonment for the attack. Qassem Asafra was handed an additional 40-year sentence, and Nasir Asafra an additional 20 years. The pair are cousins; it’s unclear how they are related to Ahmad Asafra.

Qassem Asafra was also convicted of an attempt to kill two Israelis in a 2011 terror attack in Beersheba, for which he had not been caught at the time.

Sorek’s body was found on a road leading to the religious seminary where he was studying.

The attackers expeditiously departed at a goodly pace but were apprehended in the town of Beit Kahlil after a 48-hour manhunt.

The attackers told Sherlocks they killed Sorek due to "the suffering of the Paleostinian people" and "the situation at al-Aqsa [Mosque]," according to transcripts of their interrogation obtained by the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.

They planned the murder ahead of time, drove to an intersection and waited for an Israeli to attack, they said.

Nasir Asafra attacked Sorek after he got off a bus, first attempting to subdue him with a stun gun, then repeatedly stabbing him in the chest, he said.

"He tried to defend himself by covering his face and upper body with his hands. Then he remained still and didn’t move and I got into the car," the attacker told Sherlocks.

IDF says 8 Palestinians detained on suspicion of involvement in terror
[IsraelTimes] The Israel Defense Forces says troops detained eight Paleostinians suspected of involvement in terror activities during overnight raids across the West Bank.

Two weapons were seized in the town of Bayt Rima in the central West Bank, the IDF adds.

Near Nablus, shots were heard as troops operated in the area, the military says, adding that no injuries were caused.

Police arrest Palestinian teen who sought to commit stabbing in Jerusalem’s Old City

In a statement, Israel Police say officers noticed the 15-year-old acting suspiciously near the Damascus Gate entrance. The officers chased the teen through the Old City’s alleyways, eventually arresting him near an entrance to the Temple Mount.

During the chase, the suspect threw away a bag he was carrying. It was later found by officers, with a large knife in it, police say.

Two Members Of Iranian-Backed IRGC Killed In Deir Ez-Zor

On Tuesday, unknown gunmen shot to death two members of Iranian-backed militias in a city east of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

“Unknown gunmen, who were riding a motorbike, opened fire on a military vehicle of the IRGC in the vicinity of the city of Abu Kamal on the Syrian-Iraqi border, which resulted in the killing of two members,” a military source of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) told North Press.

The source, who preferred not to be named for security reasons, said that the two members were Iraqis and they were heading to a bakery to bring bread for the other members.
Iraqi Hezbollah, perhaps.
After the operation, the two gunmen ran away towards the Iraqi border, according to the source.

The Iranian-backed militias control vast areas of the countryside of Deir ez-Zor and Syria’s Badia.

The Syrian Badia region is a source of concern for the Iranian-backed militias and the government forces, where ISIS sleeper cells launch operations that inflict heavy losses on the forces and militias, despite the intensive security campaigns to comb the Badia.

Turkey Targets IDP-Populated Villages In Aleppo

On Tuesday, Turkish forces shelled several villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo, mostly inhabited by the displaced people of Afrin region.

“Several shells fell on the villages of Sha’allah and Zoyan, in the northern countryside of Aleppo. No details have been provided of the continuous shelling so far,” a military source told North Press.

Eight shells fell on the village of Aqiba, north of Aleppo Governorate, and two artillery shells hit the village of Umm Hawsh near a medical center, an eyewitness told North Press.

The northern countryside of Aleppo Governorate, also known as Shahba region, houses IDPs of the Kurdish city of Afrin which was occupied in 2018 by Turkey following a military operation called “Olive Branch” to push away the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) under the pretext of maintaining Turkish national security.

The operation caused the displacement of about 300,000 of the original inhabitants of the Kurds of Afrin who have been taking shelter in 40 villages and five camps in Shahba region since then.

On Monday, the Turkish forces shelled the vicinity of al-Wahshiya village, causing extensive damage to pistachio trees in the vicinity of the village, in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

Turkey Escalates Its Shelling After Failing To Launch New Military Operation In NE Syria

Matai Hanna, the spokesman for the Syriac Military Council of the SDF, said on Tuesday that the Turkish escalation on the contact lines in northeast Syria is a reaction to Turkey’s failure to obtain the green light to start a new military operation.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on May 23 that Turkey would soon launch a new military operation into northern Syria to create a 30-kilometer (19-mile) “security zone” along the border.

However, the Turkish government postponed, two days ago, the military operation indefinitely.

Hanna said Turkey is trying to exploit the world’s preoccupation with the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, to displace the indigenous population of northeast Syria.

According to human rights reports, approximately 300,000 people from Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad residents were displaced from their homes as a result of Turkey and its affiliated opposition factions (SNA) invading northeast Syria in 2019.

Hanna stated that the Turkish forces do not abide by the ceasefire agreement they signed with the American and Russian sides in 2019.

Following the Turkish “Peace Spring” military operation in October 2019, which resulted in the occupation of the two cities of Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa, and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), north of Hasakah, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US.

The agreements stipulate halt of all hostilities there and the withdrawal of the SDF 30 km in depth away from the Turkish border in addition to conducting Turkish-Russian joint patrols in order to monitor the implementation of the agreements.

For days, the Turkish forces have escalated bombing villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo and in the town of Tel Tamer, north of Hasakah, northeast Syria.

The Turkish bombing resulted in great destruction in the Assyrian Church in the town of Tel Tawil. A number of schools, homes and property of local residents were also damaged, in addition to an unprecedented wave of displacement from those villages.

Turkey has given way to extremist organizations, consisting of leaders of the second and third ranks of ISIS, and other organizations, to carry out kidnappings, killings and torture within the areas under its control, according to Hanna

The spokesman for the Syriac Military Council held the Russian forces responsible for the Turkish attacks, saying: “The Russian guarantor does not take a serious attitude to stop the violations and war crimes committed by Turkey.”

Hanna drew attention to the need for the international community and countries concerned with the Syrian issue to hold Turkish forces that commit inhumane crimes accountable.
