Dutch shocked after police hide image of Indianapolis man arrested for shooting commando in back
[POPULARMILITARY] Two days after the arrest of the man suspected of shooting Dutch Commandos in Indianapolis, police released the booking photo to local media.

Dutch citizens are outraged in the aftermath of the killing of one of their commandos and wounding of several others in Indiana, as details appear to trickle in on who was behind the killing.

Shamar Duncan has been identified as one of the men responsible for the slaying of Simmie Poetsema, a Royal Dutch Commando who was shot full of holes in Indianapolis on August 27.

According to a police affidavit for probable cause obtained by a local news station and posted to Twitter, around 4 to 6 gunshots were heard by witnesses.

"[A surviving commando] told Detective [Gregory] Taylor that they had left a club in downtown Indianapolis," the affidavit read. "They were headed back to the hotel for the night. On their way back to the hotel, some guys bumped into their group and a disturbance broke out. He said there were three African American males that got into a pulling and pushing match."

The shooting reportedly took place after an altercation outside of a nightclub, which led to Duncan and his friends being bested in hand-to-hand combat by the commandos.

"He said one of the African Americans got hit and was knocked out with one punch," the affidavit continued, written in grammar typical of police reports. "He said their group was trying to get out of the fight because they didn’t want a fight. He said 30 seconds to 2 minutes after the fight, shots were fired."

A 9mm handgun was listed as the murder weapon, and Poetsema was reported to have been shot in the head from behind in a drive-by from "a light-colored pick-up truck."

The Dutch commandos were forthcoming in their statements to IPD detectives.

"He said the black guys were just looking for a fight and he tried to diffuse the situation," the detective wrote in his statement.

Another witness claims Duncan and company went for his weapon after losing the fight, hearing someone in the group say "I’m going to go get a strap."

On Twitter, Dutch netizens were unhappy that Duncan’s name was released, but not his photo or any further information.

"Interesting there are no details about [Duncan]," wrote one user. "It was first degree murder. It’s a huge stain on US reputation. Shocking that it happened."

"Predictable outcome," wrote another. "Even the Russians don’t shoot you in the back. Woke Nederland is again preparing to demonstrate against the death penalty
and for the release of this ’poor victim of the system.’"

In recent years, media-affiliated organizations such as the Poynter Institute [who run Politifact] and Gannett have resisted publishing mugshots of black offenders due to a claim that such actions promote systemic racism
...the idea that the nation is racist to the core, always was, and always will be. 330 million Americans live in Selma, Alabama in 1965, and we're never, ever leaving...
"Local news news hounds have amplified narratives that connect Black and brown communities to crime. As a result, we have fostered systemic racism through our crime coverage," Poynter wrote in a tweet to one of their articles in 2021.

Duncan is currently facing one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and disorderly conduct.

Sunken village rises from the deep: Roman settlement flooded to create reservoir is visible in its entirety after drought caused water levels to drop in Spain

[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A Roman settlement that was flooded to create a reservoir is now visible in its entirety after a prolonged drought caused water levels to drop in Spain.

The archaeological remains of the entire Roman camp, known as Aquis Querquennis, were revealed after water levels plunged at the As Conchas Reservoir in Galicia, northwest Spain.

Spain has been suffering the worst drought in decades following a summer of heatwaves that have seen rivers and reservoirs plunge to dangerously low levels.

The Roman settlement in northern Spain, believed to be built in 75AD by the Romans before being abandoned in around 120AD, was flooded to form the As Conchas Reservoir in 1948 and has since been largely submerged by the water.

Only parts of the site are usually visible throughout the year, but this month, after weeks of record-breaking temperatures, the Roman camp has been revealed in its entirety.

California heat wave prompts Flex Alert for today, request for cutback on electricity usage
[OCRegister] With searing heat driving up air-conditioner use across California, the manager of the state’s power grid has called for another Flex Alert, urging residents to conserve as much electricity as possible on Thursday, Sept. 1, from 4 to 9 p.m.

A Flex Alert was also called on Wednesday. During the alerts, residents are urged to volunteer to take power-saving steps.

The power-system operator has warned that more are likely in the coming week, particularly on Sunday and Monday, forecasted to have especially high electricity demand.

The California Independent System Operator issues Flex Alerts because of "high temperatures pushing up energy demand and tightening available power supplies."

Ways to cut back on electricity:

— Set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher

— Avoiding use of major appliances

— Turn off unnecessary lights

— Try to avoid charging electric vehicles

— Close blinds and drapes to keep interiors cool

A Flex Alert is the lowest-level notification issued by Cal-ISO. If voluntary conservation fails to cut strain on the power grid, the agency could move into a series of emergency alerts that could lead to rolling blackouts.

The heat wave baking most of the state is expected to continue through the Labor Day weekend.

Iowa Goes Super-2A
[Breitbart via OffThePress] Iowans will have an opportunity this November to vote on adding language to their state constitution that exceeds the language contained in the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The Des Moines Register notes that Iowa is one of just over a handful of states that lack any state-level constitutional protection for the right to keep and bear arms.

In November, Iowans will vote for or against the adoption of a constitutional amendment which recognizes the right to keep and bear arms as "fundamental."

The amendment says: "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The sovereign state of Iowa affirms and recognizes this right to be a fundamental individual right. Any and all restrictions of this right shall be subject to strict scrutiny."

The proposed amendment explicitly recognizes the right to keep and bear arms as an individual right, whereas that recognition is implicit in the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Argentina suspends football matches after vice president assassination attempt
[ESPN] All football matches in Argentina were suspended on Friday after an assassination attempt on the country's vice president, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
AKA Ol' Spackleface
The Argentinian Football Association (AFA) made the announcement Thursday night after the attack, which took place in Buenos Aires.

Fernandez de Kirchner was arriving at her home in the Recoleta neighbourhood when a man emerged from a crowd and pointed a gun at her head from close range.

The pistol -- which was loaded with five bullets -- was triggered but did not fire correctly. A 35-year-old man has been arrested.

Friday was declared a national holiday by President Alberto Fernandez and the AFA said that all football activity had been suspended.

"The Argentinian Football Association expresses its strongest repudiation of what happened with vice president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner," the AFA said in a statement. "We call on society as a whole, warning that violence of any kind is never the solution."

Three matches had been due to take place in Argentina's First Division on Friday: Patronato vs. Union, Rosario Central vs. Talleres and Lanus vs. Tigre.

A number of other games have also been postponed, including in Argentina's regionalised third tier, the women's championship, and the reserve league.

#1  The pistol -- which was loaded with five bullets -- was triggered but did not fire correctly.

We had friends who were on assignment in Caracas during the early 19990s, at the same time we were in Germany. It was her assignment, so he went househusband for the duration. He’d originally planned on an Air Force career, but it didn’t work out, which was why he noticed the state of the gun used by the hired guards... It had never been cleaned, which showed, but also apparently had not been fired by any of the current users — not so visible.

He spent considerable time that first year there training their guards to clean and shoot the thing, then formally inspected it and them regularly — if one must have guards, they must be capable of doing their job.

Government Corruption
It's happening: Denver residents lose control of thermostats to fight energy crisis
BLUF:
[Hot Air] People attempting to lower the temperature setting on newer heating and cooling systems received a very "Big Brother" style message on their digital displays. It read (in part), "Temperature locked temporarily due to energy emergency. Due to a rare energy emergency that may affect the local energy grid, your temperature slider has been changed... since 4:00 pm." The message went on to explain that the override was a result of the user’s participation in the "Colorado AC Rewards Program."

What is interesting is that its conceptual lineage is the Russian Katyusha rocket launchers system. The Russians have not been able to keep it up in developmental evolution. Betcha, the Chinese are bending all their intel assets to get as much information on it.

Who Knew Mars Has Bats?
[Via CFP] To Prevent A Martian Plague, Nasa Needs To Build A Very Special Lab

NASA wants its project to comply with international planetary-protection policies as well as its own complementary ones. The Sample Receiving Facility would also have to be approved through the National Environmental Policy Act process, which would require producing an environmental-impact statement. The spacecraft and its at-home facility may, additionally, have to deal with National Security Presidential Directive 25, which rules over scientific and technological experiments that could have big environmental effects. This is not to neglect official interest from the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Health and Human Services with the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Homeland Security and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and potentially other state and local governments.
