Hunter Biden Bio Firm Partnered With Ukrainian Researchers ‘Isolating Deadly Pathogens' Using Funds From Obama's DOD
This informative article harvested from a comment from our own Abu Uluque.
[National Pulse] An investment firm directed by President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden was a leading financial backer of a pandemic tracking and response firm that collaborated on identifying and isolating deadly pathogens in Ukrainian laboratories, receiving funds from the Obama administration’s Department of Defense in the process, The National Pulse can exclusively reveal.

Rosemont Seneca Technology Partners (RSTP) — a subsidiary of the Hunter Biden and Christopher Heinz-founded Rosemont Capital — counted both Biden and Heinz as managing directors. Heinz is the stepson of former U.S. Secretary of State and current Climate czar John Kerry.

Amongst the companies listed on archived versions of the RSTP’s portfolio is Metabiota — an ostensibly San Francisco-based company that purports to detect, track, and analyze emerging infectious diseases.

Financial reports reveal that RSTP led the company’s first round of funding in 2015, which amounted to $30 million. Former managing director and co-founder of RSTP Neil Callahan — a name that also appears many times on Hunter Biden’s hard drive — sits on Metabiota’s Board of Advisors alongside former Clinton official Rob Walker who discussed, in another unearthed Hunter Biden hard drive e-mail, reaching out to the Obama Department of Defense with regard to Metabiota.

'God gave me another chance': Teen who drove through Texas tornado describes scary moments
[FoxWeather] If you didn’t know who 16-year-old Riley Leon was before today, you might recognize his infamous 2004 red Chevrolet Silverado.

"I never expected it to happen to me," Riley told FOX 7.

The teen was driving home from a job interview Monday on Highway 290 in Elgin, Texas, when an EF-2 tornado blew his truck onto its side and spun it around multiple times before getting flipped back upright onto its wheels.

"I’m speechless," he said. "I'm speechless seeing how my truck got thrown like paper."

The National Weather Service said the tornado began roughly 9 miles southwest of Elgin and headed northeast. It damaged slab homes, mobile homes, trees, power lines and an electrical transmission tower.

Amazingly, Riley was able to drive away as the twister continued its path of destruction. His only injury was a cut on his elbow.

"Grateful I'm here. Grateful God gave me another chance," he said.

The entire incident was captured on video by storm chaser Brian Emfinger of Live Storms Media.

Storm chaser Marcus Reynolds witnessed the teen’s wild ride and briefly chatted with him after the ordeal.

"He was just in kind of shock and processing everything," Reynolds told FOX Weather.

Reynolds let Riley use his phone to call his parents while he summoned a nearby paramedic to treat a cut on the teen’s arm.

"That's when I called my mom and my dad, and they're like are you OK? And I'm like, ’yeah, but my truck is gone,’" Riley said.

The truck had been in Riley's family since before his sister was born.

"That truck helped me and my dad get to where we are now," the teen said.

Elgin is located about 40 minutes northeast of Austin.

If you are driving and see a tornado moving in your direction, the NWS advises you to immediately pull over to the side of the road and seek shelter. If no such protection is available, find the lowest point on the ground and lie down, covering your head with your hands -- getting as far away from your car as possible.

"The number one thing I learned was if there's going to be bad weather, stay home. No matter how important the thing is to you, stay home. Your life, your life matters more than other stuff," Riley urges.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russia signals scaled-back war aims as Ukrainians advance near Kyiv
[Yahoo] Moscow signalled on Friday it was scaling back its ambitions in Ukraine to focus on territory claimed by Russian-backed separatists as Ukrainian forces went on the offensive to recapture towns on the outskirts of the capital Kyiv.

In the first big sign that Western sanctions on Moscow were impacting investment from China, sources said state-run Sinopec Group, Asia's biggest oil refiner, halted talks on a petrochemical investment and a venture to market Russian gas.

In the month since Moscow launched its invasion of Ukraine, Russian troops have failed to capture any major city. Their assault has met stiff resistance from Ukrainian forces and has been halted outside Kyiv.

The Russians have instead been bombarding and encircling cities, laying waste to residential areas and driving around a quarter of Ukraine's 44 million people from their homes.

More than 3.7 million of them have fled abroad, half to neighbouring Poland. U.S. President Joe Biden travelled to Poland on Friday, meeting soldiers from the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division bolstering NATO's eastern flank and getting a look at efforts to help refugees.

"I'm here in Poland to see first hand the humanitarian crisis," Biden said.

Battlelines near Kyiv have been frozen for weeks with two main Russian armoured columns stuck northwest and east of the capital. A British intelligence report described a Ukrainian counter-offensive that had pushed Russians back in the east.

"Ukrainian counter-attacks, and Russian forces falling back on overextended supply lines, have allowed Ukraine to reoccupy towns and defensive positions up to 35 km east of Kyiv," the report said. Britain has given Ukraine arms and military training.

In an announcement that appeared to indicate more limited goals, the Russian Defence Ministry said a first phase of its operation was mostly complete and it would now focus on "liberating" the breakaway eastern Donbass region.
Walking back the conquest of the Ukraine.

#4  Taking the fort/castle/city is kind of the last thing to do, and only if necessary.

IIUC the most effective sieges are when the attackers make life so miserable for the population they overthrow the defenders. That involves first cutting off supply routes.

#5  For the Russians, this is basically WWII with them playing the role of the Nazis, and the Ukrainians in the role of the Soviets. The locals hate the invader's guts. The Ukrainians are being supplied by the West. The Russians are being strangled economically, like their WWII Nazi counterparts.

What happened to the Nazis in Soviet territory - initial advances followed by defeat after defeat - could well happen to the Russians in Ukraine. Except the Russians don't even have significant initial victories as a buffer. There is an outside possibility that Ukraine not only drives the Russians out of pre-war Ukraine - it also drives them outside of Crimea and the occupied parts of Donetz and Luhansk.

The example I use for Russian military incompetency is the city of Kharkiv. 20 miles from the Russian border... 35-40% of the city is ethnic Russian... and the Russians can't capture it.

If you can't capture or even fucking surround a city that is supposed to be mostly friendly and that close, you are a fucking disgrace.

Kharkov is close, but not particularly friendly. There's a long thread here that explains why.

#8  If you can't capture or even fucking surround a city that is supposed to be mostly friendly and that close, you are a fucking disgrace.

A good point. However, the enemy always gets a vote...

It is hard to find info on the disposition of Ukrainian forces to know what is going on, but if I were playing the Ukie side, I would support Kharkiv heavily. A Rus breakthru there allows them to encircle forces in the Donbass OR drive to Kiev from the southeast. Neither is good.

I'm guessing the Russian end game at this point is control of everything east of the Dnieper, so both of those things will eventually happen.

Uranium, oil and technology: How Russia got stronger as Bidens and Clintons got richer
[JustTheNews] In the years before Moscow invaded Ukraine, Democrats enriched themselves politically and personally from oligarchs and businesses in the region while empowering Vladimir Putin with energy and technology deals.

In the early days of Russia's war on Ukraine, President Joe Biden boldly declared he was ready to seize "ill-begotten gains" of the region's oligarchs.

But in the years before Moscow twice invaded Ukraine, Democrats enriched themselves politically and personally from such oligarchs and businesses in the region while empowering Vladimir Putin with energy and technology deals that still haunt America today.

Our best-selling book "Fallout: Nuclear Bribes, Russian Spies and the Washington Lies that Enriched the Clinton and Biden Dynasties" chronicled how a failed "reset" in U.S.-Russia relations led by Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton relied on an appeasement strategy that ultimately backfired with Russia.

Putin's spoils were measured in billions of dollars in uranium contracts with U.S. utilities, expanded oil imports and transfers of sensitive technologies.

The American dynasties counted their victories in millions of dollars in donations to the Clinton Foundation, speech fees to Bill Clinton, and lucrative board seats and consulting deals for Hunter Biden.

The appeasement policy began in February 2009. Russia had invaded its neighbor and former client state, Georgia, six months earlier. The lame-duck George W. Bush administration planned to put missile defense structures in Eastern Europe to deter Russian aggression against its neighbors.

But one of the Obama-Biden administration's first foreign policy maneuvers was to cancel that plan via a "secret letter" to Putin's placeholder, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. Why? U.S. leaders apparently wanted to make deals with Russia, and giant missile silos in Putin's backyard were a nonstarter for Moscow.

But the canceled missile defense in Eastern Europe was only the beginning in a long line of concessions to Russia that not only emboldened Putin, but advanced Russian military capabilities in ways that are now having deadly consequences for Ukrainian civilians (think hypersonic missiles) while threatening the global economy.

"The last few years have seen a dangerous drift in relations between Russia and the members of our Alliance," Biden said at the Munich Security Conference on Feb. 7, 2009. "It is time — to paraphrase President Obama — it's time to press the reset button and to revisit the many areas where we can and should be working together with Russia." Biden thus gave voice to what became the "Russia Reset" policy, embodied a month later when Clinton famously pushed a literal red "reset" button with her Russian counterpart.

By 2010, the Obama-Biden-Clinton Russian reset was in full swing. The administration put forth a mutual nuclear disarmament treaty known as "New START," which, while noble in its declared intentions, risked weakening a compliant partner such as the United States while strengthening a Russia not constrained by the rules.

Another deal that Obama, Biden, and Clinton gave the Russians was called the "123 Agreement," which allowed state-owned Russian entities like nuclear behemoth Rosatom to sell nuclear materials directly to U.S. utility companies.

This deal continues to pay huge dividends to the Obama Foundation's top donor, Chicago-based Exelon Corporation. And President Biden has allowed that deal to survive even during the Ukraine war, exempting nuclear fuel sales to U.S. utilities from his recent sanctions targeting Russian energy imports.

Meanwhile, the U.S.-driven 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, and other so-called denuclearization efforts with Libya and North Korea, effectively sent hundreds of thousands of tons of uranium to Russia for enrichment — a huge cash and energy windfall for Putin.

On top of these nuclear handouts, the Obama-Biden-Clinton team gave Russia one of the biggest prizes of all: Uranium One.

Before the Russian takeover, Uranium One was a Canadian company that mined Uranium around the world. It had assets on at least three continents — Eurasia, Africa, and North America. Its assets in Wyoming, Utah, and other states constituted approximately 20% of U.S. uranium capacity and meant that the Obama-Biden Committee of Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS) would have to sign off on the deal. They could have said no, but the deal was approved.

#1  Some more:

Investors in the deal had funneled $145 million into Secretary Clinton's family foundation. Its approval helped to give Russia a near-monopoly on global uranium production.

After investigative reporter and author Peter Schweizer broke the Uranium One story in 2015, a State Department under secretary, Jose Fernandez, took the blame. Fernandez later landed a "very rewarding" position at the Clinton-connected Center for American Progress. Fernandez has now come back through the revolving door and is a top official in the Biden State Department.

But Clinton's State Department was not the only Obama-Biden department that extended an advantage to Putin.

Eric Holder's Department of Justice swept Russian crimes under the rug — not wanting to disrupt the Russian reset. So, the Russian spy ring known as the "Illegals Program," which had penetrated the highest levels of American politics and finance, just went away. Biden said he did not want to create "a flap."

Other crimes committed by Putin's agents were downplayed as well. William Campbell, an American intelligence operative-turned-whistleblower, exposed multiple Russian bribery, kickbacks, and money-laundering conspiracies — all targeting the American nuclear industry.

#2
Perhaps the worst of all the Obama-Biden-Clinton giveaways to Putin was known as the Skolkovo initiative. Skolkovo, in suburban Moscow, was the site of Russia's attempt to create its own Silicon Valley. The Clinton State Department heavily promoted the effort. As it happens, Clinton's Big Tech donors comprised 17 of the 28 American partners in Skolkovo.

In reality, Skolkovo was a cyber-warfare tech hub and a thinly-veiled cover for corporate espionage and military build-up.

  • Mizintsev, who is overseeing siege of Ukranian city Mariupol, called for private to have his 'face messed up'

  • Mizintsev is likely behind orders to bomb maternity hospital and theatre, potentially killing hundreds

  • As head of Russia's National Centre for Defence, Mizintsev is likely to have helped devise battle plans in Syria

  • In 2016, Aleppo was subjected to many of the same horrors as Mariupol - with hospitals targeted, cluster munitions and incendiary bombs rained down on civilians, and chemical weapons used

Certainly this general would not last long in our woke army's. Putin wants results He wants this war over a quickly as possible. The call for Mariupol to stand down passed. This war is a collection of many stories. Putin is there to stay. Impose all the sanctions you wish. NATO of Asia has just been born. America has been weakened and isolated thanks to this administration. Perceived as week and lacking intelligent leadership Allies realize America has become a paper dragon. Over 400,000 Ukrainians forcibly taken to Russia, Kyiv charges
[IsraelTimes] Ukraine says more than 400,000 of its citizens have been forcibly taken to Russia, after the Foreign Ministry said 6,000 residents of Mariupol had been forcibly moved.

Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova says at a briefing Thursday that the Ukrainians were taken to by Russian troops from Mariupol and other besieged Ukrainian cities. The number includes 84,000 children.

She says they are held in primitive conditions with little food and water.

Donetsk Region Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko also says Russians are taking Ukrainians’ passports and then taking people to filtration camps. There, Russian FSB counterintelligence agency officers conduct security checks before moving the Ukrainians to various distant areas in Russia.

Kyrylenko says that Mariupol’s residents had been long deprived of information and the Russians feed them false claims about Ukraine’s defeats to persuade them to move to Russia.

"Russian lies may influence those who have been under the siege," he said.

Russian officials reported Wednesday that over 384,000 Ukrainians had voluntarily traveled to Russia where they were being offered accommodation and payments.

Jewish businessman paid for Nazi graffiti in Ukraine before Russia invaded
[IsraelTimes] Ukrainian oligarch Pavel Fuks, accused of paying locals to daub swastikas in Kahriv and Kyiv, quoted saying ’he had no choice’ after Russian agents approached him.

An oligarch with Russian ties reportedly paid Ukrainian locals to spray-paint swastikas around the city of Kharkiv in the months leading up to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In a report Wednesday, Rolling Stone cited multiple sources that identify the oligarch behind the alleged plot as Pavel Fuks, a Jewish-Ukrainian businessman who has accumulated most of his wealth from ventures in Russia.

Fuks, who reportedly held Russian citizenship in the past, was allegedly approached by Russian agents and persuaded to pay small-time Mister Bigs anywhere between $500 and $1,500 through intermediaries to vandalize the streets of Kharkiv with Nazi symbols.

According to the report, this lasted for three months, between December and February, and up until Russian troops invaded Ukraine on February 24.

The report cited several Ukrainians, including former top kickboxer Oleg Plyush, who said Fuks had employed intermediaries in order to track down people who would be willing to carry out the antisemitic acts of vandalism.

Furthermore, the report quoted a US official speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
who confirmed the allegations, saying that Fuks’ activities were well known throughout the American intelligence community.

Russia has repeatedly insisted that its large-scale invasion of Ukraine is a "special military operation" meant to "demilitarize and de-Nazify" the country, claims that have largely been dismissed by the international community.

Plyush, who reportedly confronted Fuks about the scheme, told Rolling Stone that the businessman said "he had no choice" and was given the option to play along or stop doing business in Russia.

He noted that he was personally aware of three cases of antisemitic graffiti being paid for with Fuks’ money and noted that the campaign was extended to the capital, Kyiv, as well.

Swearing by his account, Plyush said he was willing to testify under oath to his encounters with Fuks and knowledge of the scheme.

Fuks has declined to comment on the report.

The allegations put forth against Fuks are surprising, considering his Jewish heritage and history of donating to Jewish causes in Ukraine, including to the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial in Kyiv.

If confirmed, the scheme would appear to be part of a larger Russian effort to use Nazi symbols to sow unrest.

Former KGB general Oleg Kalugin referred to this tactic in his memoir, and noted that Soviet spies used similar methods during the Cold War, vandalizing synagogues and Jewish cemeteries in New York and Washington.

The Holocaust, World War II, and Nazism have been important tools for Putin in his bid to legitimize Russia’s war in Ukraine, but historians see his use of disinformation as a cynical ploy to further the Russian leader’s aims.

In February 2020, Russian politicians voted in favor of lifting a ban on displays of Nazi symbols, as long as they promote a "negative attitude to Nazi ideology and extremism" and when there are "no signs of propaganda or justifying Nazi and holy warrior ideology."

#1  So much bullshit. The whitewashing of Kolomoisky and Zelensky's support for neo-Nazi shock troops continues.

As Max Blumenthal points out, "Zelensky’s top financial backer, the Ukrainian Jewish oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, has been a key benefactor of the neo-Nazi Azov Battalion and other extremist militias."
In particular:
"Igor Kolomoisky, a Ukrainian energy baron of Jewish heritage, has been a top funder of Azov since it was formed in 2014. He has also bankrolled private militias like the Dnipro and Aidar Battalions, and has deployed them as a personal thug squad to protect his financial interests."

Posted by: M. Murcek || 03/25/2022 10:43 Comments || Top||

#4  According to this article, the Russian government was responsible for the "Nazi-" graffiti, and picked out Jews to pressure them to take part in creating it. I suppose that was to put the blame on Jews if the fakeness of the graffiti was discovered.
And then the Russian government invaded, to put a stop to that Nazi graffiti.
This reminds me of the attacks on Nazi Germany by "Poles", which Hitler used to legitimize his attack on Poland in 1939. The guy who organized this was Schindler, the same Schindler who later was the hero of Schindler's list.
He was not a Jew but he came to regret his past.

Joe Biden Says NATO Would Respond ‘In Kind' If Russia Uses Chemical Weapons
The problem when dealing with weak men (and the eminences gris guiding them) is they may suddenly feel cornered and overreact, doing something overly destructive after being previously ineffective. President Putin needs to calibrate very carefully to not push him over that edge.
[PJMedia] Joe Biden was at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium on Thursday, where he made a rather troubling remark during a press conference regarding Russia’s potential use of chemical weapons against Ukraine.

After Biden ruled out military action against Russia, Cecilia Vega of ABC News asked him if he was making a mistake to do so.

"Could Putin have been emboldened, knowing that you were not going to get involved directly in this conflict?"

"No, and no," Biden insisted.

"You do not believe that?" Vega asked. "And to clarify, on chemical weapons: Could — if chemical weapons were used in Ukraine, would that trigger a military response from NATO?"

"It would re- — it would trigger a response in kind, whether or not — you’re asking whether NATO would cross; we’d make that decision at the time."

Wait ... what? To respond in kind means to respond in a similar matter, which means Joe Biden quite literally said that NATO would respond to a chemical attack by Russia on Ukraine with a chemical attack on Russia. Did he really mean that? Chemical weapons are banned according to the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Whether or not Biden actually meant what he said, he still said it. Either he didn’t understand what he was saying or "misspoke," but when you’re playing the role of President of the United States, words actually matter, and I can only wonder what kind of headaches this absurd statement caused for the White House.

#6  IIRC, when the US decided to stop their military use of chemical and biological weapons -- largely because they didn't work on a usable timeframe (bio), were too much of a hassle (chemical), or killed the wrong people (chemicals and especially bio!) -- the Official Word was "Use Chemicals = Using Biologicals = Using Nukes and Global Thermonuclear War™ in 5,3,2,..."

Biden really has no freaking idea what he is threatening the 'paranoid Russian Bear' with by using this language.

#7  ...I'm pretty sure we don't have any deployable CW warheads or bombs left in the inventory, and the Russians know that because we're stupid honest that way.

The only realistic retaliatory option if they use CW is to conventionally erase a Russian unit in Ukraine from the map. If we hit anything inside the borders of the Rodina, all bets are off and the Russians WILL throw a nuke at us to make a point.

Respond in kind? Right. Where is Biden going to get mustard gas/sarin/VX/Novichok (wanna bet Dow Chemical could whip some up and make big bucks doing so), and where would he use it? In Russia? Inviting a nuke response. In Ukraine? Yeah, great idea, they already have a chemical strike to deal with, let's poison even more of the country we are supposedly assisting.

If there are chemical weapons, try looking at Bryansk, 75KM from the Ukraine border. There is a Russian "Chemical Weapons Destruction" facility there. Undoubtedly the Russians have some chemical weapons stored there.

French is not actually one of my languages, Tom, though I can order chocolates in the language in Belgium — a critical life skill at one point of my life. But the noun is eminence, gris (grey) being the adjective. One pluralizes nouns, after all. Like parents-in-law, not parent-in-laws.

Update: I just looked it up before posting, and it turns out you, I, and inconsequence gris (I melted when I saw that nym in the poster list) are all partially correct. Both parts take the plural, to whit: éminences grises. Now we all know.

#1  Given the President of Ukraine is JEWISH himself, and the ONLY other Jewish head of state other than Israel.

I started looking a little into this RUSSIAN media-controlled Pravda claim. Seriously windering how a person of JEWISH blood could be the leader of a nation of Nazis.

It turns out, Russia is selectively picking data to sell the idea. For example, Russia has cited the Ukrainian AZOV Battalion and is saying it's a Nazified army. Why? Because it has a few citizens that have joined to fight off the Russian Invasion, that are Far Atl-Right.

So using Russia's wide-reaching term for NAZIFIED.
and applying it to the USA.

The USA is a White Supremacist run country because we have about 8,000 KKK members (0.0023391812865497076 of 1% of 342M)

The USA is more likely tho to be a Black Supremacist run country with roughly about 8% of the Black Community being Militant BLM hardliners. ☺

But I think the point has been made that Putin is using Misleading Propaganda hoping to build Russian citizen support for this major screwup.

Intercepted radio transmissions reveal Russians ordering troops to 'cover' residential areas with artillery, New York Times reports
[Insider] Intercepted radio transmissions reveal Russians ordered troops in Ukraine to target residential areas, the New York Times reported.

Audio from the unsecured radio networks obtained by The Times show Russian troops discussing targets while advancing on the Ukrainian town of Makariv on February 27.

In one bit of radio chatter, a Russian is heard ordering a military member to "cover" residential areas "with artillery" once the "property" is removed, according to The Times' translation.

A Russian who identifies himself in the recording as "Yug-95" told soldier "Buran-30" that a "decision has been made to remove the first 'property' from the residential area," according to a translation by the New York Times.

He then instructed the soldier to "cover the residential area with artillery," The Times reported.

He repeated the orders twice, The Times reported.

New York Times journalist Christiaan Triebert reported that "property" was likely code for "Russian personnel or equipment."

'Sleepwalking Into War' as Milley & Austin fail again: Russian generals refuse to take repeated calls from bumbling US military-defense leaders
[MSN] Repeated attempts by the United States’ top defense and military leaders to speak with their Russian counterparts have been rejected by Moscow for the last month, leaving the world’s two largest nuclear powers in the dark about explanations for military movements and raising fears of a major miscalculation or battlefield accident.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Gen. Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, have tried to set up phone calls with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Gen. Valery Gerasimov but the Russians “have so far declined to engage,” said Pentagon spokesman John Kirby in a statement Wednesday.

The attempted calls by Austin and Milley, which have not previously been reported, come as Russia conducts operations near the borders of NATO members Poland and Romania while the United States and its European allies conduct air-policing operations over the Baltic Sea and pour weapons and equipment into Ukraine by ground transport.

Moscow and Washington maintain a deconfliction channel but current and former officials say contact from higher-ranking military leaders is needed to avoid unnecessary escalation or confusion.

“There is a high risk of escalation without the firebreak of direct contact between the most senior officials,” said James Stavridis, who served as the Supreme Allied Commander at NATO from 2009 to 2013. “Very young people are flying in jets, operating warships, and conducting combat operations in the Ukrainian war. They are not seasoned diplomats, and their actions in the heat of operations can be misunderstood.”

Trying to hold economies to ransom over some egocentric powerplay by a comedian backed by rich NWO cultists. Why would they pick up the phone? And how do we know for certain that Milley and Austin are even trying? They serve liars and are liars.

I repeat. Russia is not at war with America. Or even challenging their allies. Or in any conflict of interest over economic or strategic balance. It is trying to prevent an unfair tipping of the balance of power. Something the US has done more times than necessary in all continents. It's not about rebuilding a Soviet union or subjecting innocent people to misery. More misery than the collateral in Ukraine is being threatened by sanctions on countries not involved in this mess. It is the same cancel culture applied in macro. "Denounce Russia with us or else!" Like "Accept that Democrats law or else!"

The Biden establishment is dragging America into craziness. And for those who think it's not Biden against Russia, ask yourselves if Trump would have bothered to go this far. If he was in office NATO would have never considered expanding. Trump would never fall into this "lets you and him fight" game Soros has put everyone in.

Cyber
US indicts 4 Russian agents for hacking energy firms
[aisraelTimes] Four Russian agents have been indicted in the United States for hacking attacks targeting the energy sector around the world, including a US nuclear power operator, the Justice Department says.

The Russian hackers targeted thousands of computers at hundreds of companies in 135 countries between 2012 and 2018, the department says. It is not immediately clear if Israel is among the countries targeted.

The Justice Department says the targets included a nuclear power facility in the US state of Kansas.

A Saudi petrochemical plant was also attacked in 2017 using the type of malware attributed to the Russian hackers.

According to the Justice Department, the Russians were employed by a Russian Ministry of Defense research institute and Russia’s Federal Security Service
... the successor to the KGB...
(FSB).

The unsealing of the indictments comes three days after US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. The very model of probity, except maybe for abandoning Afghanistan...
warned of a growing Russian cyber threat against US businesses in response to Western sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

Russian man, 23, accused of operating a cyber marketplace selling thousands of stolen login details including more than 48,000 compromised email accounts since 2018 is indicted in Texas
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A Russian man accused of orchestrating an online marketplace where thousands of stolen login details and compromised accounts were sold has been indicted in Texas.

Igor Dekhtyarchuk, 23, stands accused of operating a cyber-criminal marketplace known as Marketplace A, which since 2018 has supported the sale of more than 48,000 compromised email accounts and more than 39,000 compromised online accounts according to the indictment.

Dekhtyarchuk's marketplace also sold authentication tools that 'allowed transnational organized crime and other cyber criminals to unlawfully access the online accounts of victims located around the world', according to the FBI
...Formerly one of the world's premier criminal investigation organizations, something for a nation to be proud of. Now it's a political arm of the Deep State oligarchy that is willing to trump up charges, suppress evidence, or take out insurance policies come election time...
Dekhtyarchuk, who operates under the hacking alias 'Floraby', began advertising the sale of compromised account data in Russian-language hacker forums in April 2018 and opened Marketplace A in May 2018, a Department of Justice (DOJ) statement said.

The Russian hacker was indicted on March 16 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, on charges of Wire Fraud, Access Device Fraud and Aggravated Identity Theft, and a federal warrant was issued for his arrest last Thursday.

His current whereabouts are unknown, although the wanted poster issued by the FBI said Dekhtyarchuk was previously a student at Ural State University in Yekaterinburg, Russia, and was last known to reside in Kamensk-Uralsky, Sverdlovsk Oblast.

The hacker is now on the FBI's Cyber Most Wanted List.

#5  Unintended consequences as they say. Biden seems to keep shooting himself in the foot in everything he does. Movement away from the dollar will have dramatic impact in our dealings with the world. The new world order for Western civilizations only.

A world in which the dollar isn't the primary reserve currency is one where its value goes down and US exports surge. That's not a bad thing at all.

It’s completely feasible to move to another reserve currency. All they need is a country willing to play the patsy - to absorb the cost of large and ongoing trade deficits. If China is willing to hollow out its industry in order to make the yuan a significant reserve currency, that should be entertaining to watch. Note that Germany, Japan and Switzerland, some of the candidates for reserve currency boltholes, have negative interest rates for this very reason - to discourage foreigners from parking their cash there. Reserve currency status artificially jacks up your currency and makes your exports less competitive.

The Chinese want the buying power of reserve currency status without taking the trade deficits that go with that buying power. Here’s a hint. It doesn’t work that way.

There’s another big issue - the country with the biggest economy naturally has the biggest currency exchange volumes. That makes its currency exchange trades the ones with the lowest bid-ask spreads. If you use a different currency, one party has to be willing to accept the additional costs from that arrangement. If the Saudis are willing to accept a lower price from the Chinese, or the Chinese are willing to pay a higher price, maybe this will work out to everyone’s satisfaction.

But someone in there is getting the short end of the stick vs working with the dollar. The real bottom line is that people use the dollar not because they like Americans. They use the dollar for the same reason they use iOS or Android phones - they offer the most bang for the buck. Whether operating system or currency, their association with the US has only the barest relationship to the reason people use them.

The dollar is the reserve currency of choice for two reasons - the size of the economy and the fact that unlike Japan, Germany and Switzerland, we don’t charge people interest to park their reserves in dollars to discourage them from doing so. The yuan will *never* be a reserve currency. They don’t want the trade deficits, and no one trusts them.

The Chinese king (Trump’s verbiage in frank conversation with Xi) wiped out $100b is American stockholder value by declaring Chinese for-profit education companies listed on US exchanges non-profits. I wouldn’t trust Xi with the loose change from a trip to the grocery store, never mind a nation’s forex reserves.

#6  This optimism is misplaced. Developing countries need a cheap currency to boost their exports, but the United States as the most advanced economy and the owner of the reserve currency needs a strong dollar. The US relies heavily on the dollar's reserve currency status to exert its influence over the global financial system and as a stick in its foreign policy.

The US uses the dollar as a weapon: when nations behave in ways the US disapproves of, the US seizes (i.e. steals) their dollar based assets, cuts them off from the US markets and/or banking system, imposes punitive sanctions to make their people's (though not their corrupt leaders') lives difficult.

One should not underestimate the amount of resentment and bitterness that US sanctions have caused many different nations around the world over the past several decades. (Indians are not alone in tasting this bitter fruit. US sanctions on India in 1998 set back US diplomatic efforts by more than a decade.)

When the dollar ceases to be the reserve currency at some point during the next 5-15 years, American power and influence will shrink considerably.

#7  This optimism is misplaced. The US relies heavily on the dollar's reserve currency status to exert its influence over the global financial system and as a stick in its foreign policy.

Indian thought about just everything suffers from the cargo cult fallacy. Real cart before the horse stuff. It's the equivalent of saying that people are rich because they drive luxury cars. The US doesn't *need* the dollar to be the major reserve currency.

It puts up with the costs imposed upon it for by that status out of habit because it has done so since the end of WWII. The US economy has been the largest in the world for literally 100 years. It allows the rest of the world to use the dollar as a reserve currency as a favor. If these other countries shift to another currency, the US economy will become even bigger, as the drag of an overvalued currency will no longer hamper its largest exporters.

In a sense, the dollar's reserve currency status is a lot like Pax Americana. We police the world because we've done so for a good long while. Some people have taken this to mean that we do so because it's essential to the nation's economic standing. Actually - the reverse is true. If we stopped policing the world, the nation's wealth would grow. The problem? The potential re-occurrence of another WWII - a knock-down drag-out war* that spends all the savings we accumulated over a century in a single digit number of years. And this time, with nuclear-armed adversaries.

* WWII used up 2 years of economic output. That's 2% of GDP for 100 years. Doesn't sound like much, and it isn't. The problem? We also lost 400,000 Americans in the prime of their lives - mostly 18-28 year olds.

#8  Re India and cargo cultism - that is pretty much why India remains one of the poorest countries on Earth despite a treasure trove of human talent. China, which shares that abundance, also underuses that talent, thanks to the classic problem of dictators having free rein to cater to their personal whims instead of the Western market of ideas informing all key political decisions. However, the fact that India remains so underdeveloped is truly amazing, given that it never went through the wrenching ideological and economic dislocations that China did.

#9  The US economy has beenwas the largest in the world for literally 100 years.

I understand national pride. You have much to be proud of but the American Century is over. It ended with the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Biden Administration's foolish and self-destructive sanctions on Russia.

The consequences are obvious to everyone: an end to US unipolar hegemony and the rise of a multipolar interstate system, and an end to the American-led globalized economy and a continuing increase in trade flows not denominated in dollars.

Perhaps the US and Western Europe will draw closer, but the rest of the world (aside from Japan) does not share in America's desire to make Russia into a "pariah state" and will defeat US sanctions in due course.

#3  invading another sovereign nation
Like Iraq? Your lack of self-awareness is comical.
Did you even read what Edward Luce of the FT had to say?
Here, I'll summarise for you:

"the world’s ambivalence should give Biden and Europe food for thought. The west’s habitual tendency to claim moral leadership creates three problems.

First, it is hypocritical. US public opinion paid little attention to the horrific carnage in Syria, for which Assad is primarily culpable. Thousands of civilians died in Iraq and Afghanistan from US munitions.

A second point is that the west is rash to assume its values are universal. The US this week designated what Myanmar did to its Rohingya minority as genocide. Though Myanmar, unlike Ukraine, is in India’s neighbourhood, Narendra Modi, India’s Hindu nationalist prime minister, made only token protests. The fact that the Rohingya are Muslim undoubtedly influenced him.

A third is that much of the world resents western sanctions [which have] reminded others of the west’s capacity to punish those with whom it disagrees.

Putin Plans to Attend G20 Summit in Indonesia
[AnNahar] President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
plans to attend a G20 summit later this year in Indonesia, Moscow's envoy said Wednesday, dismissing suggestions Russia could be excluded from the group over the war in Ukraine.

A day earlier, the United States indicated it would consult allies over Russia's membership in international forums to increase pressure over the invasion of Ukraine, which has prompted a refugee crisis in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and roiled global markets.

Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobieva said G20 host Jakarta had already invited Putin to the November heads of state summit in Bali.

"It will depend on many things, including the Covid situation that is getting better. But, so far yes, the intention is [for Putin] to come," she told news hounds on Wednesday.

Vorobieva said there have been attempts by Western countries to expel Russia from world organizations, including the Group of 20 major economies, calling it a "disproportionate" reaction.

Russia, she added, appreciates Indonesia's "firm position", after Jakarta repeatedly said the forum was for resolving economic problems.

China on Wednesday also dismissed suggestions Russia could be excluded, saying the country was an "important member" of the G20.

Beijing has provided a level of diplomatic protection as Russia finds itself increasingly isolated, and its economy tied up by Western sanctions.

"The G20 is the main forum for international economic cooperation," Chinese foreign ministry front man Wang Wenbin told news hounds.

"Russia is an important member, and no member has the right to expel another country."

Indonesia, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the G20, has said it will keep the November forum focused on its initial objectives, implying it was planning to keep Russia's invasion of Ukraine largely off the agenda.

"Of course, the expulsion of Russia from this kind of forum will not help these economic problems to be resolved. On the contrary, without Russia, it will be difficult," said Vorobieva.

"We really hope that the Indonesian government will not give in to the horrible pressure that is being applied to not only Indonesia, but so many countries in the world by the West."

White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Tuesday said Washington would consult with allies about Russia's G20 membership.

"We believe that it cannot be business as usual for Russia in international institutions and in the international community," he told a press briefing.

Russia was previously indefinitely suspended from the smaller Group of Eight major economies in 2014 over the annexation of Crimea from Ukraine. The grouping was renamed the G7.

Webb Works!
[BGR] We finally have our first James Webb image. At least, the first in-focus image that James Webb Space Telescope has produced. NASA released the image on March 16, 2022, and shared that all critical mirror alignment steps have been completed.

In this first James Webb image, we can see a central star, shining brightly in the photo. The star is encircled by dots, lines, and spirals. Each of these represents a star or galaxy in the background. It’s a breathtaking view, and one that showcases just what makes the James Webb such a promising piece of tech for exploring space.

Next, they’ll need to align the other instruments together, too. NASA says these adjustments will take place over the next six weeks. During that time the team will align the Near-Infrared Spectrograph, Mid-Infrared Instrument, and New Infrared imager and Slitless Spectrograph further. The team will then make final alignment changes before putting the James Webb to work.

Enjoy it while it lasts. Now that it's all climate "science" and muzz outreach, don't expect any more like JWST.

Not from NASA, it'll have to be from people motivated by science and discovery.

#5  I'm pretty sure that the science/engineering/mathmatics skills of those who need to define their gender and pronouns before every presentation won't be creating anything actually advancing hard science.
