TikTok-inspired 'Orbeez Challenge' ends in MURDER after New Yorker, 18, is shot and killed 'by off-duty jail warden' when teen fired illegal air rifle at him from passing car
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Raymond Chaluisant, 18, was allegedly shot and killed by off-duty Corrections Officer Dion Middleton, 45, on Thursday in the Bronx

  • Middleton was charged with murder of the teen, who allegedly fired at the cop with an air rifle for an 'Orbeez Challenge'

  • Afterwards, Middleton continued to work without reporting the incident, it is claimed

  • The challenge asks TikTokers and YouTubers to equip their air rifles or water guns with gel pellets and fire them at unsuspecting victims as a prank

  • The NYPD has warned against using these toys and has confiscated several of them after the fatal shooting

  • Middleton was arrested at the NYPD academy's firing range in Rodman's Neck, where he clocked into work hours after the shooting

#1  Newsom signs gun control bill modeled after Texas abortion law
Posted by: Skidmark || 07/23/2022 6:26 Comments || Top||

#2  About Gov. Newsom’s law:

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday signed a gun control bill into law that will allow private citizens to sue anyone who manufactures, sells, transports or distributes illegal "assault weapons and ghost guns."

The measure was crafted in response to last year's Texas abortion ban that prohibits the procedure once a heartbeat was detected and allows private citizens to sue physicians, drivers or anyone else who aids a woman in receiving an abortion for $10,000.

The California gun law would grant $10,000 in damages per weapon to private citizens who sue. Citizens could also be awarded the same amount if they file a lawsuit against someone who illegally sells firearms to people under 21 years of age.

The problem on modelling the one after the other being, in my inexpert opinion, that gun ownership is protected by the U.S. Constitution, while abortion is not, as the US Supreme Court so recently ruled. Sadly, despite his varied life experiences and full head of hair, the honourable governor is a narrowly conventional California Progressive in his politics, as far as I’ve noticed.

#3  It speaks volumes that California can't come up with a coherent response to the Texas bill. All they can do is say, "FUCK YOU WE'RE DOING THE SAME BUT TO YOU!" in reply.

They're intellectually bankrupt. You'll notice this pattern again and again, when this kind of "reply" is made to a really good point. Once you learn how to spot it, you can't stop noticing it.

#4  TW, aren't both these laws a little stupid? Not to mention tyrannical? $10k incentive to busybodies of all sorts; from the local gun-hating Karen to Father Bobs of the Holy Bucolic, to effectively act as agents of a nanny state? Don't they both divide in a way?

If someone wants to get an abortion, they're making an immoral choice alright. But what future does a child have if its mother is the sort of person who wants it dead? A future in the foster care system? I have heard horror stories of that which would shame the darn ISIS. Who, or what cares for the child once it's 'saved'?

My point is, both right and left are not fighting over real issues anymore. The left is happy to keep the right engaged in these persnickety things. While it slowly transforms the very foundation of government, society and the definitions of what people think are right and wrong. The right seems pleased with winning really small battles while the war is being lost.

I don't know, maybe it just seems that way to me.

Because where I live, it's not abortions or curbs on moral turpitude of liberals, it's just temples. The 'sentiments' of gods and goddesses and the honor of long dead kings etc. And the masses seem mighty pleased with local governments giving them 'victories' which are actually gossamer and made of hot air. The moslem and the commie and the globalist agent continue to advance.

#5  If the so-called right didn't have the left to pretend they were opposing, they'd actually have to, you know, accomplish stuff.

All you need to know about the emptiness of the co-opted, so-called right, you can learn at The Z Blog. I don't always agree with him, but he's correct more often than not.

#7  #4 Dron66046, I would say that killing a baby is more than an "immoral choice." It is a crime, just as killing a person outside the womb is.

As for the alternative, I understand that there are quite a few infertile couples looking to adopt children. Again, I understand the best environment for a child to be raised in is a stable home with married parents. And so adoption is the preferred choice.

Finally, this might make young women think twice about giving it away to anything with pants on. If people were a bit more circumspect about sex before they are in the throes of passion, we might have fewer surprise pregnancies. In fact, I suspect we will see a drop in pregnancies staring almost immediately in states that now restrict abortion.

#8  The last paragraph is wishful thinking, Tom. All modern social media drives the concept of instant gratification in ways that people in the 50s-60s=70s couldn't even imagine.

#9  It is a crime, just as killing a person

Okay. Agreed. But are there really as many 'stable' couples, with the moral grounding and the wherewithal to raise all those 'saved' babies? I agree I'm thinking only strategically now. And we're not encouraging abortions or slimy abortionists. You know what class of people go for this sort of life. Folks will take on the responsibility to care for all their children? Who are these wonderful folks?

That being said, I brought a girl from the 'Stain for $4k, brought her to India, set her up good, inserted her in a program for hindu dissidents trying to relocate. I looked in on her time to time. Mrs. 66046 was all for adopting her formally but we couldn't. She's a mommy of three and a fine christian lady now. Point is, I always dreaded she would fuck up one day and her inherent programming would make her return to her 'roots'. But didn't happen, praise Gawd. Maybe I'm wrong, surely I am. Yes, you're probably right. Life must always be given a chance.

It can always be ended when it's gone bad.

#10  Dron, look up Ryan Bomberger of the Radiance Foundation (radiancefoundation.org). He was conceived in rape. His birth mother gave him up for adoption. He was adopted by the Bombergers, who had, I believe, four of their own, who adopted 10 others besides Ryan.
There are other couples out there who will do it.

The funny thing about adoption is that the social services make you jump through hoops, PROVE you are financially and emotionally stable, and all kinds of other things, just to adopt.

#12  We are not all in agreement on the subject, which is why kicking it back to the states is the right call — letting the various cultures across the country work out the consequences of their various beliefs on this subject in their own way. And why I am grateful that in Ohio the new abortion laws provide exceptions for physical danger to the mother if she were forced to carry to term — like that ten year old who was unnecessarily taken across state lines to deal with her mother having shared her with the illegal alien who is still her live-in boyfriend. There are few things for which a single answer is correct in all cases, and there has to be room in both law and morality for that.

Woke MLB All-Star Game Posts Worst Viewership Ever
[NewsBusters] Major League Baseball showcased its very best talents in Tuesday’s All-Star Game, and the viewing public said nah, not interested. Television ratings for a fast declining woke league were at rock bottom in the history of all-star game viewing.

Broadcast by Fox Sports, the 2022 all-star game drew just 7.5 million viewers with a lowly 4.2 rating, and Sports Business Journal documented this being the poorest television showing ever for the Midsummer Classic. That’s a 10-percent ratings drop compared to last year’s controversy-dogged game.

Not only is MLB losing popularity for its wokeness, but last year it badly damaged the integrity of the all-star game by removing it from Atlanta for political reasons. The Georgia legislature had enacted new laws designed to protect election integrity. Democrats cried "voter suppression," MLB bought into the lie and moved the 2021 all-star game to Colorado. It was a woke, bone-headed move that sent baseball’s favorability into a free fall.

Pentagon should end 'woke' hunt for military extremism, says fmr Green Beret
[FoxNews] Senate Armed Services Committee recommended the Pentagon halt its programs countering military extremism

A former Green Beret is calling on the Department of Defense to end its hunt for military extremism following a ‘fruitless’ investigation and recommendation from the Senate Armed Services Committee.

"I hope that the DOD and the Biden administration take the recommendation so that our service members can get back to the war-fighting functions that they're supposed to be training on," Derrick Anderson, a retired Green Beret and former congressional candidate in Virginia told Fox News.

The Senate Armed Services Committee submitted its 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to the DOD last month, which included a recommendation to halt its programs countering extremism in the ranks.

The report accompanying the bill was approved by narrow margins, 14-12, and states, "the vast majority of service members serve with honor and distinction, and that the narrative surrounding systemic extremism in the military besmirches the men and women in uniform."

"The committee believes that spending additional time and resources to combat exceptionally rare instances of extremism in the military is an inappropriate use of taxpayer funds and should be discontinued by the Department of Defense immediately," the report continues.

Disappointed by the committee's Democrats voting against the recommendation, Anderson said, "as we've seen with the Democrats over and over again, they're digging their heels in on these types of woke policies instead of just coming to the table and saying, ‘hey, maybe we were wrong on this.’"

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin ordered a military-wide "stand down" to address extremism in February of 2021, after some defendants charged in connection with the January 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol were found to have had military ties.

On January 2, 2022, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff detailed the number of hours and dollars spent on fighting this alleged extremism in the ranks. Chairman Milley's letter to the committee indicated that there were 5,359,000 hours and over $500,000 spent on the stand down, not including the cost of compiling the CEAWG report.

"The Senate Armed Services Committee has essentially said that it's a waste of taxpayer dollars to be conducting this training when our service members should be otherwise training for combat," Anderson said of the committee’s recommendation to halt anti-extremism programs.

The Pentagon’s Countering Extremist Activity Working Group (CEAWG), established in April 2021, identified fewer than 100 instances of confirmed extremist activity in 2021, the Pentagon reported in December.

With roughly 2.1 million active and reserve personnel in the U.S. military, 100 cases is roughly .005% of the force.

An internal Defense Department survey found that only 9% of Americans ages 17-24 eligible to serve in the military had any inclination to do so, the lowest number since 2007, according to NBC.

Ret. Lt. Gen. Thomas Spoehr of the Heritage Foundation said this is the most trouble the military has had recruiting since 1973, after the U.S. left Vietnam and ended the draft.

#4  There is another half of this they are not showing, Retention. Enlistment goals are worked to cover for losses as members leave and don't re-up. So, what are the retention rates for those at 4yrs, 8yrs and 12 years. Those are skilled service members and you don't replace a 8 year experienced vet with a recruit. It's one big calculation of input-process-output in crunching those numbers. If your retention craters and you have terrible recruiting, its over with.

Disney World brawl reportedly spurs 2 arrests, bans at Magic Kingdom
[NYPOST] A massive brawl that erupted at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom this week has resulted in two arrests as well as bans from the theme park for several alleged participants, according to a report.

The wild fracas between at least 10 people erupted outside Mickey’s PhilharMagic theater at the Orlando, Fla. theme park on Thursday after two families got into an argument while waiting in line, sparking a mass of fisticuffs that landed at least one man in the hospital.
Vibrant and Diverse™
One of the alleged participants, who was hauled off in an ambulance and hospitalized due to a large cut on his chin, confirmed the clampdown in a written message to Disney blog Walt Disney World News Today.

"We got banned from Disney forever unless we contact the head," the alleged participant wrote. "2 people from other party got arrested and the rest left, no one from our fam was arrested yet and they still have us here."

The guest claimed that his family had been banned from the Magic Kingdom as well as other Disney properties including their hotel. Meanwhile two members of the other fist-throwing family — all of whom had been dressed identically in red shorts and white, Disney-themed T-shirts — were arrested, the guest claimed.

"They r making us leave our resort which is riviera even though we are here for another 2 weeks," the guest lamented in the message. "We have to leave Disney property including typhoon lagoon, and disney springs."

Possible Woke Disaster in Small NC Town
[WRAL] - A small North Carolina town lost its police chief of two decades as well as all its full-time police officers to resignation Wednesday.

The town of Kenly, home to about 2,000 residents, is left with just three part-time officers on its police force.

The officers who resigned were also joined by two town clerks who all accuse the new town manager of a hostile work environment.

The new town manager, Justine Jones, was hired last month.

#9  Even if they did destroy a few, from what I have been seeing is that they took out a huge amount of officers and alot of ammo dumps before they did.

#10  LOL. Battle Damage Assessments are notoriously inflated. The US Army Air Force shot down almost twice (x2) the number of Luftwaffe aircraft Germany produced during WW2, for example. Wait until after the conflict when you can compare both sides records.

This is the income of farmers, the entire agricultural sector and the state budget. These are jobs. We now already have grain worth about $10 billion."

22:03 Losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the front have significantly decreased this month, Zelensky told the WSJ. According to him, Ukraine now loses 30 people dead and about 250 wounded every day, despite the fact that at the peak of hostilities in May and June, the losses were from 100 to 200 soldiers per day. The President explained that this was due to the supply of more powerful Western weapons, because if earlier the invaders fired 12,000 artillery shells daily against 1-2 thousand shells of Ukraine, now Ukraine can fire about 6,000 shells a day.

We fully trust them, because they are implementing new measures to monitor and trace these firearms."

Europol said in a statement that a potential threat seen in war zones in the past is that firearms could fall into the wrong hands. But at the moment, such facts have not been recorded.

According to UN officials, there is hope that the agreement will ensure the passage of grain and essential goods such as sunflower oil from three Ukrainian ports, including Odessa.

The deal also aims to ensure the safe passage of Russian-made fertilizers amid efforts to alleviate the global food crisis triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

18:14 The document that was signed today in Istanbul is called the Initiative for the Safe Transportation of Grain and Food from Ukrainian Ports. Ukraine did not sign any documents with Russia. The initiative, signed by representatives of Turkey, the UN and Ukraine, must be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers and made public in full, the UP writes. The same document was signed separately by representatives of Turkey, the UN and the Russian Federation. From the Ukrainian side, the document was signed by Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov, from the Russian side - by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

18:01 Shoigu said that the signed memorandum on UN assistance in the supply of Russian food and fertilizers to world markets and the algorithm for the export of Ukrainian grain are interconnected - this is a single package. According to him, the algorithm was proposed by Russia. Inspection of vessels with Ukrainian grain will be carried out both at the exit and at the entrance to the Black Sea. Shoigu also stressed that the safety of ships in the territorial waters of Ukraine, within the framework of the agreement, should be ensured by Kyiv.

17:42 Russia and Ukraine signed an agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain with the UN and Turkey in Istanbul , RIA Novosti correspondent reports. The ports will not be cleared of mines, the ships will go along safe fairways. Also, the agreement does not imply military escort of ships.
Glad that’s settled — the world will be less hungry than otherwise.
A coordinating center (Russia, Turkey, Ukraine) will be created in Istanbul to monitor the process, which will resolve incidents if they occur. Vessels going to Ukraine will be inspected for the presence of weapons (access will also be received by representatives of Russia). It is assumed that the full movement of ships to and from Ukrainian ports for the export of food may begin in a couple of weeks. The Ukrainian military is confident that the routes agreed upon under the deal are safe.

The Russian Defense Ministry also reported that Shoigu and the UN Secretary General signed a memorandum on facilitating the supply of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to the world market.

The President of the European Commission, followed by the European Commissioners for Climate, Energy and Industry, call for solidarity. But not all EU countries agree. Read more in the material The EU is preparing a gas plan .

17:14 The invaders close Mariupol for entry and exit from 16:00 Friday, July 22, until 6:00 Monday, July 25. According to the mayor's adviser Petr Andryushchenko, enhanced filtration and anti-partisan measures will be carried out. According to insiders, the reason is "a bad night for the occupiers in Berdyansk, where they suddenly lost a certain number of soldiers."

16:36 A senior Pentagon official said that the Russian military daily suffer hundreds of losses in the war against Ukraine, in particular, Russia has lost thousands of lieutenants and captains, writes Reuters.
Thousands? Ouch.
An American official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the media that in addition to the killed lieutenants and captains, hundreds of colonels and "many" Russian generals were killed. Russia classifies military deaths as a state secret and has not updated its official casualty figures since the spring.

The US also believes that Ukraine has destroyed more than 100 "high-value" Russian targets on its territory, including command posts, ammunition depots and air defense facilities.

15:52 The businessman and the head of the headquarters of the Territorial Defense of the Dnieper, Gennady Korban, had their Ukrainian passport taken away at the border when he was returning to Ukraine. Representatives of the SBU, NABU and the SBI arrived at the border. 15:01 The situation in the Luhansk region is difficult, but controlled, fighting is underway in the areas of Belogorivka and Verkhnekamenka, said the head of the OVA Serhiy Gaidai. According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine hold the line of defense and do not allow the enemy to advance. Ukrainian artillerymen destroyed many warehouses behind enemy lines. Gaidai said that the Russians are increasingly throwing units of private military campaigns into attacks because their army has suffered huge losses. Also, the invaders have problems with the delivery of ammunition.

14:17 The head of the Lugansk OVA, Serhiy Gaidai, said in an interview with TSN that thousands of residents of Severodonetsk and Lysychansk helped Russian troops and provided information about the location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: “There were 10,000 residents left in Severodonetsk. Even if they were hypothetically traitors, it’s not even 10 "% of the total population that lived there before the full-scale invasion. So it's not a big percentage. But even if it's one or two thousand people who could help, it's still a lot."

13:43 The Rada will adopt the laws necessary to start negotiations on joining the EU by the end of the year, Stefanchuk said. 13:05 The official representative of Europol, Jan Op Gen Oort, said yesterday that he allegedly has evidence of arms smuggling from Ukraine. According to him, small arms are being exported from Ukraine, and investigators from EU member states have data on the trade in heavy weapons. Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov said in response that Ukraine expects a substantive conversation with Europol. Danilov stressed that the publication of "arms smuggling" in the Western media coincides with the start of a large-scale information special operation of the Russian Federation MakZim, discrediting Ukraine. The main goal of the campaign is to stop the supply of weapons from the allies.

13:02 Russian media report that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu arrived in Istanbul to sign an agreement on unblocking grain exports from Ukraine. From Turkey, the document will also be signed by Minister of Defense Hulusi Akar, and from the Ukrainian side - Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov.

12:59 Only 11% of educational institutions in Ukraine have their own protective structures of civil protection, the State Emergency Service reported. At the same time, the presence of bomb shelters is a key condition for launching offline training.

12:14 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation explained the blow to the Kramatorsk school: according to Moscow, "the stationing point of the Black Hundred national formation" was destroyed there.

12:09 In the Kherson region, the invaders are trying to engage in "military-patriotic education" of Ukrainian youth. According to the GUR MOU, "public organizations" such as "young builders of the Kherson region", "youth of Kherson", etc. are being actively formed for this purpose. The participation of Ukrainian youth in them is increasingly becoming compulsory. At the same time, the older generation of the region is involved in the newly created organizations "union of mothers of the Kherson region", "organization of veterans of the Kherson region".

11:42 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stated that from July 5 to July 20, "four HIMARS launchers and one transport-loading vehicle" were allegedly destroyed in Ukraine.

11:26 In the "DNR", following the "LNR", they also decided to block Google, Pushilin said.

11:21 Head of the Defense Committee of the Bundestag Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann announced the need for direct supplies of tanks to Ukraine. According to her, the principle of circular exchange, according to which Poland provides Kyiv with its Soviet-designed equipment, and in return receives German equipment, makes sense, but in the case of Ukraine it did not work: “We must have the courage to admit that everything does not work the way we imagine represented, and should instead supply [tanks] directly to Ukraine if needed."

Strack-Zimmermann added that Ukrainian soldiers have proven their ability to quickly master and start using new equipment.

11:15 The Japanese Ministry of Defense in its annual report warns of an increased military threat from Russia and growing pressure from China on Taiwan. The agency notes, in particular, that the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine may serve as a signal that it is permissible to change the status quo by force unilaterally.

A whole chapter is devoted to the war in Ukraine in the document, writes Die Zeit. It says Moscow may increasingly rely on its nuclear capability as a deterrent, which in turn could mean a surge in activity around Japan, where Russian nuclear submarines regularly maneuver. There are also concerns about the expansion and deepening of relations between Russia and China.

11:09 The "authorities" of the occupied Kherson region are trying to equip a pontoon crossing across the Dnieper, not being able to quickly restore the Antonovsky bridge damaged by Ukrainian strikes, Yury Sobolevsky, First Deputy Head of the Kherson Regional Council, said on the air of the telethon: "The damage is really so significant that they have already applied to Moscow with in order to raise the archival plans of this bridge and develop documentation for the repair. With the design documentation for the bridge, it is not yet formed, and without it, it will not be possible to quickly prepare a restoration work plan. "

According to Sobolevsky, the Antonovsky Bridge is a priority target for both Ukraine and the Russian Federation, so the Russians are actively protecting it with missile defense systems. As an alternative to the bridge, the occupiers have the "Kahovsky way", but it does not allow them to quickly bring heavy ammunition due to a difficult detour.

11:03 From under the rubble at the Kramatorsk school after yesterday's shelling, rescuers removed the bodies of three dead, search work continues, the State Emergency Service reported. Rescuers have already cleared 200 tons of destroyed parts of the building. As a result of the strikes, a school was destroyed in the city, a five-story building and 85 private houses were damaged.

10:44 SBU eliminated in Kiev the scheme of theft of protective equipment of the National Guard for more than 8 million hryvnias. The attackers tried to illegally sell about 2,000 plates for body armor, helmets and other military ammunition. In addition, 120,000 unregistered cartridges for firearms prepared for sale were confiscated from them.

The scheme was organized by the head of a specialized network of stores selling military equipment and the director of the capital's commercial structure. They brought into Ukraine a wholesale batch of protective equipment, allegedly for the needs of the National Guard.

09:28 British intelligence reports that in the Donbass the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to repel attempts to storm the Uglegorsk TPP, Russian artillery is shelling in the directions of Kramatorsk and Seversk. Intelligence also cites statements by the head of the Nikolaev OVA, Vitaly Kim, that Russia has begun to use the S-300 air defense systems more often to attack ground targets. According to analysts, this is due to an acute shortage of specialized missiles for ground attacks.

Intelligence notes that these weapons have relatively small warheads designed to destroy aircraft. They can pose a significant threat to troops in open areas and in unfortified buildings, but are unlikely to penetrate through fortified structures.

08:56 The General Staff announced the approximate losses of the enemy on the morning of July 22. The enemy suffered the greatest losses in the Krivoy Rog and Bakhmut directions.

Its results assume "independence followed by free accession to the Russian Federation."

08:37 On July 19, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed the Russian electronic warfare station Repellent-1 near the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, the speaker of the Odessa OVA, Sergey Bratchuk, told. According to him, the control center of this station is located in an armored kung equipped with a system of protection against chemical and bacteriological weapons. Repellent-1 was first demonstrated in the Russian Federation in September 2016 at a defense exhibition. The station is capable of detecting miniature aerial targets at a distance of 30-35 km, as well as jamming drones at a distance of up to 2.5 km.

07:58 The Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled enemy attacks in the Yuzhnobuzhsky and Bakhmutsky directions, battles continue near the Uglegorsk TPP and Pokrovsky, the General Staff said in the morning report .

07:49 At night, the Russian army covered three districts of the Dnipropetrovsk region with fire - Nikopol, Sinelnikovsky and Krivorozhsky, said the head of the OVA Valentin Reznichenko. In particular, the Russians fired at Nikopol twice from the MLRS, fired up to 100 shells. Initially, one person was killed and one injured. 11 private houses were damaged, there are gusts of gas and water pipes, and railway tracks were destroyed.

In the Pokrovskaya community, the enemy hit the warehouses, broke the transformer - several villages were left without electricity. The Zelenodolsk community was hit by cannon artillery, touched a private house, the fire had already been extinguished. In Apostolovo, seven rocket attacks were recorded, three schools were destroyed, and residential buildings were damaged. Eight people are preliminarily wounded.

07:41 The IRIS-T air defense system is still at the production stage in Germany and will be ready for shipment to Ukraine at the end of summer, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock told DW: "Our problem, like many European countries, is that that the stocks do not have everything that Ukraine needs, so we will send to Ukraine, for example, IRIS-T - one of the most modern air defense systems, which is now only at the production stage and, I hope, will be ready at the end of summer. Thus, we are always checking what else can be done to support Ukraine even more."

02:33 The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) states that the current operational pace of the Russian troops does not differ significantly from that which was during the officially announced operational pause between July 7 and 16. Since July 16, the Russians have continued local attacks east of Seversk and east and south of Bakhmut; as of July 21, they had not made significant territorial gains in those areas.

The lack of successful ground attacks outside the Slovyansk, Seversk and Bakhmut areas is consistent with the ISW assessment that the Russian advance is likely to end without the capture of Slovyansk or Bakhmut.

01:55 Ukrainian defenders in the south attacked five strongholds and two ammunition depots in the Skadovsky and Beryslav districts of the Kherson region, as well as at the place of accumulation of enemy personnel in the Nikolaev region, OK Pivden reported.

Truth: To illustrate the thesis about attacks on "exclusively military targets," Ukrainian Telegram channels took a video made on July 12, the day before the shelling Lugansk.

Video - part of the newsplot local TV channel "Lugansk 24" about the reburial of servicemen of the People's Militia of the LPR who died during the operation to liberate Donbass, in particular, in the battles for Rubizhne and Severodonetsk.

Germany's dependence on Russian gas noticed by Washington Post, after paper slammed Trump for same prediction

#1  "The Germans just smirked."

Let's be clear: The guy who smirked was Germany's most incompetent foreign minister ever.

Germany wrongly assumed that Russia would never use gas as a weapon. That may have been reasonable until 2014. Then it became obvious that Putin was about to do whatever he wanted to do. We should have reduced dependency by 5% every year and we'd be in the clear now.

But also blame the climate church.
Posted by: European Conservative || 07/23/2022 7:05 Comments || Top||

#2  A little correction of the article on Foxnews. Germany never got 66% of its gas from Russia. The high mark was 55% and this has been reduced to currently 35%.
Posted by: European Conservative || 07/23/2022 7:09 Comments || Top||

#3  Thanks for the update, EC.
Posted by: Skidmark || 07/23/2022 7:14 Comments || Top||

#5  I also tend to believe that Putin is playing games but will not reduce gas flow to Germany to zero.

If he does he can forget about any meaningful trade with Germany for the next 10 years or more. And he needs Germany much more than he acknowledges. Much of the Russian energy industry is dependent on German technology. Next year he will painfully feel it.

Germany expects to reduce Russian gas to 10% by summer 2024.

#6  I concur with EC's para one above. The Russians specialize in threats and intimidation. Why would Putin push the Germans toward western energy reliance?

#7  Western purchases of grain, LNG, oil, titanium, aluminum, uranium fuel for reactors etc. are funding the SMO in Ukraine. The West is effectively funding both sides in the war. As the saying goes - don’t correct your opponent when they are making a mistake

#8  It was all Germans who were smirking at us. Remember how useless NATO was? It only functioned to start wars in the Middle East and Africa which just flooded Europe with refugees. NATO is just for protecting US interests and preserving its hegemony. The US just wanted to control Europe.

Europeans are highly skeptical of any use of force as well as the notion of permanent conflict. It is no longer the Europe of Napoleon and Bismarck, much less that of Plato and Thucydides. Instead, as Robert Kagan pointed out in his ingenious 2003 work Of Paradise and Power, it is the Europe of Immanuel Kant. Traumatized by the hideous experiences of the 20th century, Europeans have adopted a postmodern and posthistorical view that military force is unnecessary—immoral, even—in a world where problems ought to be resolved through the rule of law. This is the root of the disgust and smirking contempt for America and Americans, especially our military.

And for what? To defend a continent whose politicians and body politic *sneers* at us, over and over again for being bullies, for being warlike, for being the 'World's Police', and then *berates us* when we think it's time to look at whether or not nations are actually contributing.

Not at all. That's just the taxpayer, the fool sitting in a governorate thinking 'Europe is my great supracountry'. The rulers simply discovered proxy warfare is safer and cheaper. And if they can get others to pay for even that, even better.

Wind turbine disintegrates in Texas after a lightning strike (video)
[NYP] CROWELL, Texas — A North Texas wind farm is one turbine down thanks to what officials believe was a devastating lightning strike to one of the massive structures on Friday afternoon.

Videos from witnesses and firefighters showed the wind turbine generator ablaze and disintegrate in the sky over Crowell, Texas.

Doppler radar indicated there were plenty of lightning strikes around the Foard City wind facility before firefighters received the call about the high-altitude fire.

Crews with the Crowell Volunteer Fire Department responded, but Fire Chief Perry Shaw said there was little his firefighters could do to put the fire out.

"We’re not equipped to handle that kind of fire. Nobody in the area really is to speak of," Shaw said.

The fire chief estimated there were 800 gallons of oil in the gearbox and around 1,300 gallons of mineral oil in the ground-level transformer, which caused the smoke to appear dark black.

The 'clean' wind energy is dependent upon (wait for it) fossil oil. Well, I guess we can always fall back upon whale oil.

#2  Let me see if I understand this correctly.
Wind Turbines are Earth ECO Friendly Tree Huggers answer to Fossil Fuels and nasty oil. But they use over 5000 gallons of that nasty earth hurting oil over their life expectancy in recommended service maintenance.

Plus, they are a Lighting Magnet.
