Even the best Police Dept.'s have a few Barneys.

Of course now having been arrested and under close supervision. Did the police dept assume responsibility for his Hospitalization & Bill?

Also, did the reporting Healthcare worker who reported the chosen medical pain treatment violate HIPA and leave the Hospital open to Lawsuit?

Sell your house and have some sepoys haul you to a food court where you can get a decent pastrami sandwich. Screw the dietitians and their calorie counts. Dedicate an entire week to dairy intake.

Washington burglars take out three power substations on Christmas
[FoxNews] Pierce County Sheriff's Office officials said three substations were vandalized on Christmas morning.
Vandalized but the copper wire wasn't stolen, so NOT Tweakers
Burglars in Tacoma, Washington, vandalized three power stations on Christmas morning, leaving about 14,000 customers without electricity, according to police.

At about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a burglary at the Tacoma Public Utilities Substation on 46th Avenue.

When deputies arrived, a statement from the department read, they saw evidence that a fenced area was broken into. While nothing was taken from the substation, police said equipment was vandalized, causing a power outage in the area.

Another burglary was reported later that morning at a Tacoma Public Utilities substation on 224th Street, again with forced entry and damage to the equipment, and nothing stolen from the scene.

At 11:25 a.m. a third burglary was reported by Puget Sound Energy of a power outage and burglary that occurred at about 2:40 a.m.

Deputies said the third scene was broken into as well, and the equipment was vandalized.

As a result of the burglaries and vandalism that took place, 14,000 Tacoma residents were without power on Sunday morning.

The website poweroutage.us reported just before 7 p.m. on Sunday that only 2,084 Tacoma Public Utilities customers and 1,365 Puget Sound Energy customers were without power.

All three burglaries remain under investigation, and suspects have not been apprehended.

Endangered Cuban crocodile found dead at National Zoo after apparently chewing on electric equipment
[NYP] A critically endangered Cuban crocodile was found dead in its enclosure at the National Zoo on Dec. 17 after apparently chewing into electric equipment.

The crocodile, a 10-year-old male who was hatched at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute in 2012 as part of a breeding program, was "attracted to a replacement electrical outlet and attacked the electric infrastructure in the habitat."

"The new outlet was approximately 4.5 feet off the ground, higher than the original outlet," the National Zoo explained. "Known for their aggressive behavior, the crocodile pulled the electric equipment off the wall and bit various pieces."

The crocodile had been living in the enclosure for several years without incident, and daily inspections didn’t reveal anything concerning.

The National Zoo is investigating the incident and a pathology report will determine the cause of death.

Cuban crocodiles are a critically endangered species with only about 3,000 purebred crocodiles in the wild. Their natural habitat is Cuba’s Zapata Swamp and Lanier Swamp on Isla de Juventud, where American crocodiles have been interbreeding with them in recent decades.

#6  Jesus came to set us free. He did not show up and share a fish sandwich with Garasene Demoniac. Jesus exorcized him first. His message to the Samaritan women was not that you can sleep around as long as you bring your neighbors The Gospel. He healed her first.

This is the Feast of St Stephen, OG of the Army of Steve, a man who was not martyred for preaching a dumbed down Gospel made palatable to the opponents of The Way. Stephen spoke out boldly, took the head shots and defeated Saul despite the high quality of his valet service to the stoners.

Jesus miraculously fed thousands; those who claim that He merely encouraged the crowd to redistribute their sack lunches are heretics as are the folks that say all those other worse lies about Him. He loved sinners enough not to leave them in their sin.

The purpose of the Foundation is to receive, take care of, and invest gifts and monies and other properties for the specific benefit of the ministries, people, and property ...

A search of Servant Foundation yields a number of web pages reporting from both left and right, which among them point out that this is a slick, multi-year marketing campaign by a conservative Christian charitable foundation — vaguely connected to an unnamed Koch — to trigger young people to turn toward Christianity and find a church.

Curse of the blue states: Domestic migration
[Breitbart] Blue states saw the largest population declines in 2022, while red states topped the list with the most population growth, United States Census Bureau figures reveal.

This year, California saw more than 343,000 residents leave the state — more than any other in the nation — followed by nearly 300,000 residents who left New York, and almost 142,000 residents who fled Illinois.

At the same time, more Americans resettled in Florida, more than 318,000, than any other state this year. Texas saw the second-largest net domestic migration with nearly 231,000 Americans moving to the state, followed by North Carolina, where almost 100,000 Americans moved.

The growth of Texas, for instance, now makes it one of only two states that has a more than 30 million residents. The other state to have that many is California. In just the last 22 years, Texas has added more than 10 million residents.

By region, the South was the fastest growing this year — adding about 1.3 million residents, nearly 868,000 of which were Americans who moved to the South and the other 415,000 who were newly arrived immigrants.

The West, likewise, grew in population, adding fewer than 154,000 residents. Meanwhile, the Northeast and Midwest both saw population declines this year, attributed to Americans moving out of both regions for other destinations in the South and West.

The Northeast, alone, lost nearly 219,000 residents this year, while the Midwest saw almost 49,000 Americans leave the region.

In total, the U.S. population climbed to a record 333 million residents this year. More than 80 percent of the rapid population growth is driven by the nation’s legal immigration policy that brings more than a million foreign nationals to the U.S. annually and gives them green cards.

Without immigration, the U.S. population would have stabilized at a comfortable 245,000 new residents last year as the result of new births versus deaths.

#6  What has left Blue cities, for the most part, is jobs. Youngstown, OH, for example, has lost 60% of its population due to the steel industry cratering. The biggest demising employer, GMS Lordstown Plant, is now dead. That kills all the suppliers and distribution centers in the area. Jobs have left but crime and poverty have not. What is left is a welfare funded vote center for politicians like Tim Ryan. The blue collar folks are still in Ohio or across the Pennsylvania border. Rich liberals live in by Columbus or in smaller enclaves like Khe Sahn throughout the state. It is an interesting dynamic because during their BLM fueled Tet Offensive they attacked their own strongholds.

It's so cold it's raining BATS in Texas: Stunned creatures are plunging from underside of bridge as Lone Star State is hit by historic winter storm that's killed at least 23 nationwide
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Freezing temperatures in Houston are taking a toll on the city's largest bat colony, as the cold can cause the bats to go into hypothermic shock

  • The Waugh Bridge, where many Mexican free-tailed bats live, is not providing sufficient warmth to protect them from the harsh weather

  • The bats are falling from their perches onto the pavement

  • Houston Humane Society's wildlife Dept are rescuing the cold-stunned bats and placing them next to a heat source to raise their body temperature

  • The colony of 300,000 bats may be forced to relocate if they continue to experience traumatic weather events

Department of Insecurity: Feds failed to collect thousands of security cards from ex-employees
[JustTheNews] Failure leaves key systems and buildings vulnerable after DHS did not heed warnings for years, watchdog says.

While it was dabbling with disinformation offices and censorship projects, the Homeland Security Department failed to follow its most basic safety procedures and terminate the security credentials for thousands of its ex-employees, its internal watchdog disclosed in a stinging report Thursday that rebuked years of inaction.
It only stings if you feel it. Make them feel it. Hard.
The revelation from the DHS inspector general means that the federal agency charged with protecting America from cyber and terrorist attacks left its own system vulnerable to security breaches by failing to terminate personal identity verification (PIV) card access or withdraw security clearances.

"There is a risk that individuals who no longer require access to systems and facilities could circumvent controls and enter DHS buildings and controlled areas," the watchdog warned.

The glaring failures violated federal regulations and department policies and did not markedly improve even after the agency was warned in 2018 about the problems, the inspector general reported.

"DHS has not prioritized ensuring that PIV cards are terminated when individuals no longer require access," the report said.

"We determined that, in thousands of cases, DHS did not promptly revoke PIV card access privileges or destroy PIV cards of individuals who separated from the Department.

"In addition, DHS did not always promptly withdraw security clearances of individuals who separated from DHS. Unfortunately, we could not determine the exact magnitude of the problem because records in DHS' information systems were incomplete."

The failure to follow procedures means that the department "cannot ensure only authorized employees and contractors have access to its controlled systems and facilities," the watchdog concluded.

The report estimated that between 22,878 and 36,774 PIVs had not been terminated when workers left.

The report made a half dozen recommendations for DHS to improve the situation before a security breach occurs.

The department said Thursday it agrees with all of the inspector general recommendations and is working to implement them.

The watchdog, however, raised concerns that the agency did not heed warnings four years ago that this problem existed.

"In 2018, the DHS Office of Inspector General identified weaknesses in DHS' controls over PIV card collection, revocation, destruction, and management oversight," the report noted. "In that audit, we determined that unauthorized individuals could gain access to Department facilities because DHS did not promptly collect, and revoke separated individuals'PIV cards."
In other words, the Trump team identified the problem and ordered it fixed, which the organization — not being fond of Donald Trump and all his Not Like Us, Dear people — promptly ignored everything they said.

But visual Security Photo ID only badges were already being replaced by computer controlled access badges even back in the 90's. Which could be deactivated in seconds, causing lock down / lock-in on access attempt.

Leaked UN Report now reveals DRC is collaborating with FDLR rebel group
[Garowe] The Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
has been accused of cooperating with armed rebel forces in Northern Kivu.

In a new leaked report by the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Group of Experts on DRC, the Tsishekendi’s government has been working together with the rebel FDLR group in battling the M23 rebels.

President Paul Kagame’s administration has always accused the DRC government of cooperating with the terrorist group FDLR, whose members are suspects of genocide crimes in Rwanda.

Yolande Makolo, the Rwandese government spokesperson, wrote on Twitter.

"The UN Group of Experts Report on DRC leaked to the media vindicates what Rwanda has consistently. The Congolese army (FARDC) continues to directly support several irregular gangs, and in particular works/fights closely with the Rwandan genocidal militia FDLR."

Recently M23 captured FDLR soldiers who admitted to working with the Congolese army.

"We work with FARDC in wartime," Innocent Uwamungu, one of the FDLR captives, told M23 officers.

In a separate scenario, another FDLR fighter said the FARDC provided them with ammunition and uniforms.

The UN experts report recommends the DRC government take all measures to prevent cooperation between FARDC elements and gangs, notably in Rutshuru and Nyiragongo territories.

The UN group of experts said they had documented "a worrying proliferation of xenophobia and hate speech inciting discrimination, hostility, and violence" targeting Kinyarwanda-speaking populations, in particular, the Banyamulenge and Tutsi communities, who are accused of supporting the M23.

The report further says the Banyamulenge and Tutsi populations "reported being told, including by some FARDC members that they were not citizens of the mineral-rich country.

The UN experts said the anti-Tutsi or anti-Rwanda rhetoric has led to acts of violence, including killings. They documented incidents of targeted violence and public lynching of Rwandophone individuals.

The UN experts report says the rhetoric has spread nationwide at the hands of political and military leaders as well as members of civil society.

In particular, the report mentions Aba Van Ang, the North Kivu deputy police commissioner, who has "incited civilians to take machetes ’against the enemy" and Justin Bitakwira, a former minister, who "called for every Congolese to identify ’infiltrators’.

The Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (French: Forces démocratiques de libération du Rwanda, FDLR) is an armed rebel group active in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.[2] As an ethnic Hutu group opposed to the ethnic Tutsi influence, the FDLR is one of the last factions of Rwandan rebels active in the Congo. It was founded through an amalgamation of other groups of Rwandan refugees in September 2000, including the former Army for the Liberation of Rwanda (ALiR), under the leadership of Paul Rwarakabije.[3] It was active during the latter phases of the Second Congo War and the subsequent insurgencies in Kivu.

South Korea fires warning shots, scrambles aircraft after North Korean drones cross border
[FOX] The South Korean military fired warning shots and scrambled aircraft after North Korean drones entered its airspace for the first time in five years on Monday, the Associated Press reported. This comes days after the North test-launched two ballistic missiles.

South Korea's Defense Ministry said several North Korean drones were detected in its territory after crossing the inter-Korean border on Monday morning, prompting broadcast warnings from the South's military. South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported the drones were spotted flying in Gimpo, Ganghwa Island and Paju, which led to temporary suspensions of civilian flights.

Warning shots were fired by South Korea before the country launched fighter jets and attack helicopters to shoot down the drones. It was not immediately clear if the drones were shot down or not.

A KA-1 light attack aircraft was also deployed in the response, but it crashed in Hoengseong County, about 140 kilometers east of Seoul, at 11:39 a.m., according to the Yonhap News Agency. Both of the pilots escaped safely.

China's Naval Mothership For Aerial Drones Looks To Be Operational
[TheWarZone/TheDrive] The unusual ship is purpose-built to support simulated hostile drone swarms and other unmanned threats during training and tests.

China's People's Liberation Army Navy, or PLAN, appears to have put an unusual catamaran drone mini-carrier into service as part of an experimental naval training force. The War Zone was the first to report in detail on this ship, which was launched in May 2021 and looks to be intended ostensibly to simulate enemy drone swarms, as well as other threats, such as high-volume anti-ship missile strikes and distributed electronic warfare attacks, during training exercises.

Footage of what appears to be the training ship was included in a short segment broadcast on Chinese state television station CCTV-7 today about what is described as a "Navy Experimental Training Base," according to a machine translation. CCTV-7 is focused on news about the People's Liberation Army (PLA). Overall, the segment shows various land-based and maritime training and/or test and evaluation activities involving shore-based systems, surface warships, and submarines, with a clear emphasis on naval countermeasures and other shipboard self-defense systems.

The b-roll running in the background during the CCTV-7 segment includes two brief and distinct clips showing what appears to be the forward flight deck of the catamaran drone carrier. Though a full view of the ship is never given, a number of very unique features are visible that are similar if not identical to those seen on a model of the vessel that the state-run China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, or CASIC, had on display at the 2021 Zhuhai Airshow. These include two large anchor line reels at the bow and five landing pads for drone helicopters.

Interestingly, one of the two clips that CCTV-7 included in its segment today shows the helipads marked with circles with the Latin letter "H" in the center, while the pads in the other look to be unmarked. This would seem to indicate that the two videos were taken at significantly different times. This may also raise a question about whether the PLAN has more than one of these ships, though this seems less likely. There have been no indications one way or another that a second one was launched after the first was last year.

In addition, a number of the uncrewed helicopters seen in both clips shown today on CCTV-7 are of a distinctive tandem-rotor design, a relatively uncommon configuration for uncrewed rotorcraft, which was showcased along with CASIC's model of the catamaran training vessel at Zhuhai last year. These are readily identifiable by a bar underneath one end of the fuselage with what has looked to be a radiofrequency signal emitter of some kind installed on either end. Their portly fuselages would provide space for additional mission systems.

#6  Most of the mission modules' functions are performed by carried vehicles such as helicopters or unmanned vehicles such as the Spartan Scout, AN/WLD-1 RMS Remote Minehunting System and MQ-8B Fire Scout as part of the Navy's goal to "unman the front lines". Performing functions such as sonar sweeps for mines or submarines as well as launching torpedoes against hostile submarines at a distance from the ship is less risky.[16] Placing sensors on remote vehicles allows the LCS to exploit concepts such as bistatic sonar.[17] DARPA's Tactically Exploited Reconnaissance Node (TERN) program aims to build a medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (MALE UAV) that can operate from LCS-2 and can carry a payload of 600 pounds (270 kg) out to an operational radius of 600–900 nautical miles (1,100–1,700 km).

Hollywood Lost More Than $500 Billion in Market Value in 2022
Roll left and die.
[Breitbart] For Hollywood, 2022 was truly an annus horribilis.

Major studios, streamers, cable providers, and other media giants lost a combined $542 billion in market value in 2022, with left-wing studios the Walt Disney Co., Netflix, and Comcast accounting for the bulk of the bloodshed.

The Dow Jones Media Titans index, which tracks the performance of 30 of the world’s biggest media companies, shed 40 percent this year, with its total market value declining from $1.35 trillion to $808 billion, according to a Financial Times report.

The losses outpaced indices for other sectors, including banking, which saw a 14.5 percent drop for the year, and telecommunications, which fell by 11.2 percent.

Hollywood’s horrible year was the result of a one-two punch of a downturn in the streaming market coupled with consumers continuing to cut the cord by the millions. In addition, the advertising market has cratered as households cut spending as the costs of essentials like food and energy continue to skyrocket due to President Joe Biden’s (D) disastrous economic policies.

Woke companies paid the highest price in 2022.

Government Corruption
Congress Just Gave The Weapons Industry A Massive Paycheck. Here's What That Means For US Defense
[Daily Caller] Congress authorized a massive increase in spending on weapons and ammunition in 2023, signaling a willingness to continue providing defense contractors the funding they need to deliver on future Pentagon orders, experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The Department Of Defense (DOD) would receive a 9% boost in defense spending, with some of the largest increases occurring in weapons budgets, in 2023 as part of Congress’ yearly funding bill, which allocates a total of $858 billion for defense. Concern that the U.S. lacks the capacity to both support Ukraine and deter China from attacking Taiwan have intensified as the U.S. continues to send billions in aid to Kyiv, but contractors will have to negotiate production challenges in order to supply what Congress and the White House believe they need, experts explained to the DCNF.

"This was not a ’Christmas gift’ in the sense that defense industry pressure or an insider military-industrial complex led to the defense spending increases," Eugene Gholz, a professor at the University of Notre Dame and a former senior Pentagon official, told the DCNF. "Congress has been leaning in this direction for several years, and it is the mood of the Washington consensus right now to throw money at defense."(RELATED: The Pentagon Wants To Regulate Defense Contractors’ Greenhouse Gas Emissions. Experts Say That’s Counterproductive)

Since President Joe Biden submitted his initial funding request in March, Congressional appropriators estimated the industry would require an additional $1 billion to meet the same procurement thresholds. The National Defense Authorization Act and follow-on funding bill decreases the size of the U.S. army but adds funding for weapons, setting aside $162.2 billion for the defense industry, or roughly $17.2 billion more than Biden’s request, Inside Defense reported.

In addition, $17 billion of the $45 billion emergency financial assistance approved for Ukraine is destined for the defense industry.

"It’s not more money for the same stuff. It’s the DOD realizing we haven’t invested enough for years and now we have to catch up," Maiya Clark, a senior research associate at the Heritage Foundation, told the DCNF.

Science & Technology
Pitch Drop experiment
[HT Pixy at AOSHQ] We're home to the famous Pitch Drop experiment, which holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-running laboratory experiment.
Feel The Excitement™
The experiment demonstrates the fluidity and high viscosity of pitch, a derivative of tar that is the world's thickest known fluid and was once used for waterproofing boats.

Thomas Parnell, UQ's first Professor of Physics, created the experiment in 1927 to illustrate that everyday materials can exhibit quite surprising properties.

At room temperature pitch feels solid - even brittle - and can easily be shattered with a hammer. But, in fact, at room temperature the substance - which is 100 billion times more viscous than water - is actually fluid.

THE EXPERIMENT EXPLAINED
In 1927 Professor Parnell heated a sample of pitch and poured it into a glass funnel with a sealed stem. He allowed the pitch to cool and settle for three years, and then in 1930 he cut the funnel's stem.

Since then, the pitch has slowly dripped out of the funnel - so slowly that it took eight years for the first drop to fall, and more than 40 years for another five to follow.

Now, 87 years after the funnel was cut, only nine drops have fallen - the last drop fell in April 2014 and we expect the next one to fall sometime in the 2020s.

The experiment was set up as a demonstration and is not kept under special environmental conditions - it's kept in a display cabinet - so the rate of flow of the pitch varies with seasonal changes in temperature.

The late Professor John Mainstone became the experiment's second custodian in 1961. He looked after the experiment for 52 years but, like his predecessor Professor Parnell, he passed away before seeing a drop fall.

In the 86 years that the pitch has been dripping, various glitches have prevented anyone from seeing a drop fall.

SEE FOR YOURSELF
To see the experiment for yourself, view the physical set-up in its display case in the foyer of the Parnell Building (Building 7). Alternatively, you can watch the experiment's live video stream. More than 35,000 people from some 160 countries are registered to view the stream.

Professor Andrew White is the Pitch Drop's third and current custodian.

Tesla owner in Virginia is forced to cancel Christmas plans because his EV wouldn't charge in arctic temperatures
[DM] A Tesla owner in Virginia was forced to cancel his Christmas plans with his son after his electric vehicle failed to charge in the extreme cold gripping the country.

Domenick Nati, 44, told Business Insider how he plugged his Tesla S into a supercharger in Lynchburg on Friday as temperatures hovered below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

But as the hours went by, the percentage charge dipped as the temperature got lower, before the car stopped charging altogether.

He then tried again on Christmas Eve, but after a few hours of nothing happening, he decided to abandon his car at the lot and get a ride home.

Without his car, Nati said, he would not be able to see his son open Christmas presents.

Nati, a local radio host, shared his frustrations with Business Insider on Sunday as he revealed he is not the only Tesla owner struggling to charge their EVs amid the arctic blast.

He said he went to a supercharger in town on Friday to charge the car ahead of the holiday weekend. The car's battery was at 40 percent at the time.

#4  I thought electricity got more efficient at lower temps. I would do better at making fun of him, if I knew more about his plans. Were they planning on driving around the neighborhood and peppering signs with shotgun blasts? Did they lose out on a blow-out trip to the county Wal-Mart on shopping day? Some of that could have been done on a riding mower depending on the size of his son. If his son is sort of beefy, there is always the option of converting a lawn chair into a sleigh set-up (snow dependent and not a good mix if the outing is for mailbox target practice.)
