Obamacare stings Murray
Boeing Obamacare Notices Sting Murray

In what could be a game changer for the deadlocked Washington Senate race, Boeing notified 90,000 employees, concentrated in huge plants in Washington, that their health premiums would increase next year as the company braces for the impact of President Obama's national health care law.

Citing the need to shift plans to avoid new taxes in the plan, the company will increase annual deductibles for employees' family plans by $300 to $900.

The letters to tens of thousands of Boeing employees in Washington will powerfully reinforce the message from Sen. Patty Murray's Republican challenger, Dino Rossi, that the president's health care law is bad for the state's top employer.

Obamacare is the gift that keeps on giving....

Trunk House "Leaders" Will Push for Compromise Next Year
Posted by: GolfBravoUSMC || 10/19/2010 10:57 || Comments || Link || [5 views] Top|| File under:

#1  Don't compromise too much and let your principles be bargained away. Otherwise the beating you took in 2006 will look like a light spanking in '12.
Posted by: DarthVader || 10/19/2010 11:27 Comments || Top||

#2  1 - Keep pointing out that we're broke. When you have to borrow that level of money, we're broke.

2 - Pelosi & Co did not put a budget together this year. Precedent. Don't bother next year. Avoids an unnecessary fight.

3 - Only authorize funds for those activities necessary of the federal government, ie defense, law enforcement and prosecutions [which includes the prisons], etc.

4 - All others, force the other side to offer up what they're willing to cut, curtail or dissolve before even negotiating a thing on each funding authorization.

5 - Remember the Donk definition of compromise "just agree with them". The word has completely different meaning to the rest of country right of Bill Clinton.

#3  Just more evidence that the nation is doomed, the Trunks first instinct is bend over for the lefties even before they've retaken any portion of the federal government.
Posted by: AzCat || 10/19/2010 12:31 Comments || Top||

#4  Yeah, AzCat. My first reaction was, "Don't you even!" too.
But, compromise will be inevitable and as long as it doesn't expand government or put us deeper in debt, it might not be a bad thing. The pubs don't have a 2/3 majority and a presidential veto will be waiting for programs that Bambi doesn't like. (which can be a good thing since he will veto all cost reduction and government cutting efforts and make him look even more out of touch)

However, the Pubs have had a tendency to bargain away the farm to keep the wagon and they had better not pull that crap this time around.

#5  IMHO, one of the biggest problems is the majority party reflexively becomes intoxicated with power. Either party doesn’t necessarily have to compromise their principles to illicit cooperation. It doesn’t make for sensational headlines but the Republicans could, as a good faith offer, open up the legislative process to allow for more debate. They could reduce the number of bills introduced under “closed rules”. They could vow that all bills be marked up in committee prior to introduction. They could also allow the maximum number of amendments that time would permit. This doesn’t exactly provide for compelling political theater – but maybe that’s a good thing.
Posted by: DepotGuy || 10/19/2010 13:10 Comments || Top||

#6  Trouble is the only sort of compromise Bambi and his ilk recogniz is the sort where everyone else moves to where he is. The Trunks will go there, Democrats will breathe huge sighs of relief, the economy & the nation will deteriorate further as both parties drag us marginally farther left, and the lefties will successfully pin all of the problems on the Trunks in the '12 elections. We've seen this sort of thing before, the Trunks are Charlie Brown and the lefties are Lucy right there holding the football, err, compromise.

Trouble is that the right has always been afraid to exert political power always preferring compromise while the left, very successfully for a century now, has almost completely eschewed compromise in favor of exercising political power. Thus, in the latest polling roughly three times as many Americans self-identify as conservative as liberal yet the country continues to lurch further left at a very rapid pace.

If the wave is big enough this time I'd wager that enough pressure applied by the Trunks would turn up enough Democrats who like their seats in Congress to override more than a few Obama vetoes of popular legislation.

#7  Even Rush is kinda expecting it too it seems. The opening monologue was him warning and expecting the Pubs to go back to business as usual after Nov 2.

I fear that if everyone goes back to the usual business after election day, several states and groups will declare, "A pox on both your houses" and the interesting times will be on.

#8  Git a rope. And establish an official Tea Party ( or an official teaparty hangin tree ).
Posted by: wr || 10/19/2010 17:00 Comments || Top||

#9  Two words for these Pub leaders --

Bob Bennett.

The tea party tossed him out on his ear when he was all set to take another six years in the Senate, as was his due as a member of the elite. Bob instead will be home on January 3rd trying to figure out how to make a living as something other than a lobbyist.

Mr. McConnell, Mr. Boehner: no one says you have to be the leaders, and you won't be if you compromise the core principles and concerns of we the party.

I understand legislative sausage making. Don't give away the core, or I and a lot of other Tea Party activists, sympathizers and concerned citizens will be electing new Pub leadership.

Obama wants vets to get another $250 check

#1  Misleading title. IIUC, only vets who are social security eligible will get the $.
Posted by: lord garth || 10/19/2010 7:10 Comments || Top||

#2  Very misleading headline.

Like the payouts that were delivered in 2009, this round of economic recovery payments would sent $250 checks to all seniors receiving Social Security, including about 2 million veterans.

Retired Milkman Magazine could write it up as "Obama wants retired milkmen to get another $250 check".

#11  If you're a vet getting VA compensation you will actually take a hit on your tax return next year b/c of your $250 check. I'm an OIF Vet and I get VA comp for hearing loss and some damaged joints. I got the $250 last time they tried to buy my vote (it didn't work). This past year I noticed my tax return was lower than anticipated, and made a visit to my CPA to find out why. He said that since I'd received the $250 along with full VA Comp for that month the $250 had to come back out of my tax return. Bascially, they're buying votes and then taking the money back at tax time (it almost makes me lagh as I'm typing). If this isn't indicative of how these people operate I don't know what is!

Rep. Jim Oberstar, D-Minn., has just one donor from his district
[Washington Examiner]
Posted by: Fred || 10/19/2010 00:00 || Comments || Link || [0 views] Top|| File under:

#1  This should not be a shock. Oberstar is the quintessential “safe-seater”. However, this cycle he’s also the proverbial canary in the Democrat coalmine. As the loyal foot soldier he voted for the entire Pelosi agenda. But here’s the gig. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out his vote for Cap and Trade would disproportionably hurt states like Minnesota. Nearly everyone believes the Stimulus was a trillion dollar joke. And his last minute vote for Obamacare proved he was willing to sell out even his Pro-life beliefs. Now throw in an articulate opponent that has some union endorsements and the once undefeated Jimmy O might just be on the ropes.

#2  Once I was at a conference in Duluth, I think it was in 1999 or 2000. The lunch speaker was a staffer for Oberstar. The staffer spouted the usual stuff about good govt and Oberstar's contribution to it. She allowed some Q&A. One woman rattled off a bunch of pork barrel projects that Oberstar had inserted into bills and said something like "you think this crap is good govt.". The staffer's expression was priceless as she never thought anyone would ever have this kind of info.

Democrats to keep Congress, Gibbs says
White House press secretary Minister of Information Robert Washington Bob Gibbs now says Democrats will retain control of Congress, after having predicted this past summer that they could lose the House.

"Come election night, we'll retain control of the House and Senate," Mr. Gibbs, the White House's chief front man, said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

In July, Mr. Gibbs said on that show, "I think there is no doubt there are enough seats in play that could cause Republicans to gain control. There's no doubt about that."

#2  Strictly speaking, he's right: no matter what happens on November 2, the Democrats will still control both houses on election night.

Of course, things will probably be very different come January, when the new Congress is sworn in.

Election 2010: Nevada Senate
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and his Republican challenger Sharron Angle remain locked in a tight race for the U.S. Senate in Nevada in the first survey following last Thursday night's debate.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds Angle with 50% to Reid's 47%. Two percent (2%) prefer another candidate in the race, and one percent (1%) are undecided.
Unfortunately it's close enough for the Dhimmis and their union pals to cheat.
The race remains a Toss-Up in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Senate Balance of Power rankings.

Gregory Kane: O'Malley's weak pander to illegal immigrants as "new Americans"
[Washington Examiner]
Did I hear Maryland Gov. Martin I'm with the band! O'Malley, D, right during his second debate with former Republican Gov. Robert Ehrlich? Did O'Malley call illegal immigrants "new Americans"?

Good thing I recorded that debate on a DVD. I replayed it Saturday night, and O'Malley's exact quote was this, part of his response to a question about illegal immigration.

"There is this nativism rising up and this desire to blame new Americans for the problems in our economy."

Yeah, he said it. And Ehrlich was quick to pounce on the gaffe.

"If somebody breaks in my house, is that a new member of my family that night?"

At another point in the debate, Ehrlich aimed this salvo at O'Malley: "I think we have finally focused on the problem: The governor doesn't understand the fundamentals of state government."
Posted by: Fred || 10/19/2010 00:00 || Comments || Link || [2 views] Top|| File under:

#1  I live in a border state, 8 miles from the border with Mexico. Most illegals that come through the "fence" near my town are heading to Tucson or Phoenix to be picked up and transported to states (Maryland, North Carolina, Washington state, Oregon and every state in between) where they are welcomed with open arms by employers looking for cheap labor. This has been going on for so long that many have raised families in the U.S. and expect their children to have legal status as citizens. Many don't remember that the amnesty of the Reagan presidency failed to solve anything because the open borders remained and we have what we have today. Close the border by what ever means necessary, heavily fine employers who hire illegals, clamp down on illegal welfare and education programs which encourage border crossers' families to come here and seriously examine the insane notion that an illegal immigrants children born in the U.S. are automatically citizens of this country. The idea of expelling 12 million (probably closer to 20 million) is insane, so solutions which stop the in-flow and encourage the out-flow should be our goal. And stop the excessive delay in processing legal immigrants who would be an asset to our country.

Lisa Murkowski swears she's not illegally coordinating with Lisa Murkowski's campaign
[Washington Examiner] Lisa Daddy, can I be a senator? Murkowski's lobbyist friends have launched a "Super PAC," called "Alaskans Standing Together," funded by 6-figure checks from Alaska Native Corporations, which are subsidized by the likes of Lisa Murkowski. I cover this racket in my column today, but the Sunlight Foundation yesterday noticed something odd about AST's campaign finance filings.

In brief, AST -- which can take unlimited corporate contributions for the sake of independent expenditures -- is required by law to swear it's not coordinating with any candidate. According to AST's filings, Lisa Murkowski is the AST official swearing AST isn't coordinating with any committee.
