Govt shutdown looms
[MCCLATCHYDC] Republicans rallied around a budget plan Saturday to keep the government open but delay the new health care law for a year, storming toward a showdown with Democrats that looked increasingly likely to shut down the government when the current fiscal year ends Monday night.

Republicans in the House of Representatives showed unusual unity Saturday in endorsing the plan, then took it to the full House for expected approval. Their proposal would keep the government funded through Dec. 15, delay the health care law, permanently repeal a 2.3 percent medical device tax that helps fund the health care plan and assure military personnel would be paid if the government shuts down.

The Senate is not scheduled to return to session until Monday afternoon, 10 hours before the fiscal year ends. Democrats who control the Senate said they wouldn't negotiate or consider the House proposal, leaving no apparent path to compromise on either side in the waning hours before money runs out for many parts of the government not on automatic spending such as Social Security or considered essential such as the military.

#1  Champ has vowed not to negotiate. That means he owns any shutdown. This is not '96. This is not Bill Clinton.

#2  Will shutdown include EPA swat teams?

#4  Furthermore, President B.O. has stated that he would veto such measures if they ever reached his desk.

Well, at least we've found something that will return him to his desk.

#5  I can last about 5 months, if they shut down My Social security, I hope they do shut down the Government.

See how Obama gets along WITHOUT his paycheck.

#6  It'll be interesting to see what parts of the IRS get shutdown; will report on that if this happens (and I hope it does).

#7  On the one hand, I politically like this idea; on the other financial side I don't; we will go from 3 to one paycheck; my retirement check and Mrs' Ret's civil service check.
She opined the other night that she and others @ her place of employment expect federal workers to be used more and more as political pawns in the next couple of years.
makes retirement suddenly look better.

will retirement checks be stopped? I know that the Democrats threaten that, but will it really happen? We had a government shutdown before -- under Clinton? -- does anyone remember what happened then?

#10  Wikipedia has an article on it.

Clinton wanted more spending on health, education, environment, etc. Repubs wanted to limit the debt.

There was no budget agreed upon, so a continuing funding resolution was proposed, no agreement was made so the "non essential" govt functions were suspended till things were worked out.

The problem now is that the
there is no way out of the stalemate, like under Clinton but on steroids.

If we shut down, the systemic problems are still not solved. If we go along with O's spending, the federal govt will spend itself into financial collapse. Take your pick.

#11  4:15 CT on Friday:

"In the event of a Government Shutdown on October 1, 2013, the federal Judiciary will remain open for business for approximately 10 business days. On or around October 15, 2013, the Judiciary will reassess its situation and provide further guidance. All proceedings and deadlines remain in effect as scheduled, unless otherwise advised."

#12  I know that the Democrats threaten that, but will it really happen?
According to the Seattle Times, the TSA, Border patrol and VA functions related to disabilities will continue; all others, not so clear. We are planning on hitting the 401 or other investments if needed.

#13  Republicans are trying to protect military pay if there is a shutdown. Reid will block this, because the Dems want any shutdown to be as painful as possible. Same scenario as sequestration.

#14  Hell, if they shut down the government too long, we might grow to like it.
Posted by: JohnQC || 09/29/2013 18:00 Comments || Top||

#15  A government shutdown will cause pain for the half of the population that directly depends on it and also for most of the rest, who depend on being able to get permits, to get through airports, to transfer bank funds, etc. Shut down government, shut down the economy. They (the government power brokers) can destroy us before we ever get a chance to vote them out. But if they push too hard the Tree of Liberty may get manured.

#16  ION China has opened fire on Japan + PHIL + India, POTUS Obama says the US can't intervene because we can no longer econ afford to go to war, + will have to seriously struggle to find military resourcesto fight like Thatcherite Britain did vee Argentina back in the first Falklands war, China demands the US leave East Asia + Guam-Westpac immediately unless the US wishes to escalate to a nuclear conflict.

Reuters Poll: Obama's Approval Rating Craters To Only 39%...
As President Barack Obama's signature Affordable Care Act enters the all-important sign-up phase next week, the president finds himself with some of the lowest approval ratings of his presidency even as Republicans in an unpopular Congress maneuver to block the health-care legislation from taking effect.

A Reuters-Ipsos poll of 1,729 Americans taken Sept. 20-24 found only 39 percent of those surveyed approve of the job Obama is doing as president, while 55 percent disapprove. Even worse for Obama, Reuters used a D+10 sample, only 30% of those surveyed were Republicans.

The Reuters-Ipsos poll found that 22 percent of those responding thought the country was headed in the right direction, while 64 percent thought it was on the wrong track.

#7  Yuuupp - besides the economy, sequester, debt crisis, + now possible Govt shutdown the Bammer still has the greater litmus tests of Iran + espec China-vs-Japan/East Asia.

Unilateral "OWG/Global Vichy" surrender on SYRIA = surrender on IRAN = surrender vee "Mahanist" CHINA - WHAT SIMILAR MORE SURRENDER VEE JIHADI TERRSTRIKES, FOREIGN ANDOR DOMESTIC, AGZ CONUS INCLUD NEW POSSIBLE "NEW 9-11'S" OR WORSE INVOL NUKES-WMDS???

BOTH OSAMA NOW ZAWAHIRI, ETAL.S HAD LONG RECOGNIZED THE PENCHANT OF US POLITICOS TO BE UNABLE TO CONTROL THEMSELVES AS PER PERENNIAL OVERSPENDING, NEPOTISM, + SPECIAL INTERESTS, HENCE BOTH OSAMA'S + ZAWAHIRI'S CALL FOR JIHADIS TO ATTACK THE USA VEE "000 CUTS STRATEGY" [Economic Jihad] IN ORDER TO INDUCE AMERICA = AMERIKA TO DESTABILIZE ITSELF + "SPEND, SPEND, SPEND" UNTO IMPLOSION + SELF-OBLIVION.

As LENIN put it, AMERICA = AMERIKA "SELLING THE ROPE TO OTHERS THAT WILL BE USED BY SAME TO HANG AMERICANS = AMERIKANS WITH".

Just as Ahmed can't be blamed for their Mullahs + Allan telling to have sex + kiddies all over the place, one similarly can't blame Ahmed because Amerika's leaders, refuse to balance their own checkbooks in favor of fairy-tale-ish, universal Socialist "free everything".

UNLESS SOMETHING CHANGES, IFF ISLAM DOESN'T THE WORLD CHINA = ASIA/ORIENTALISM WILL - THE JUDEOCHRISTIAN US-WEST WILL HAVE DESERVED TO HAVE LOST OR BE DESTROYED.

As said before, the Globalists/Globies are taking a very dangerous risk that intentional or unilateral US rollback of power-n-influence across the world, in deference to a OWG "MultiPolar/PolyCentric" agenda of Multiple Par "Co-Superpowers", WILL NOT BE INTERPRETED AS DE FACTO STRATEGIC OR GEOPOL WEAKNESS(ES} ON THE PART OF THE US BY ITS ENEMIES, RIVALS, OR PROTAGONISTS,INSPIRING THEM TO FORCIBLY = MILITARILY TAKE WHAT THE US CAN NO LONGER DEFEND OR REFUSES TO DEFEND.

EYES WIDE OPEN, NOT EYES WIDE SHUT.

I don't want to be around when the US mainstream realizes their country's loss of poweR, status, territory(s) + sovereignty, etc. was PRE-PLANNED = INTENTIONAL, BY THEIR OWN US POLITICOS WHOM ENGAGE MORE IN SELFISH "WE-DON'T-HAVE-TO-EXPLAIN-ANYTHING-TO-THE-PEOPLE/VOTERS-OR-TO-GOD" TYRANNY THAN PROPER LEADERSHIP.

* IIRC DRUDGEREPORT > US SENATOR SAYS POLITICS IN WASHINGTON HAS REACHED "CIVIL WAR LEVELS".

House votes to Delay Bumblecare or Shut Down the Government
House Republicans will vote to pass a one-year delay of Obamacare in exchange for funding the government, a plan that drastically increases the chances of a government shutdown this Tuesday.

The decision was announced by the GOP leadership in a closed meeting Saturday afternoon, according to sources present. Republicans will also pass a bill to fund U.S. troops if the government shuts down, according to GOP lawmakers. The House's funding measure will keep the government open until mid December.

#6  Delaying it a year is already happening for big chunks of ACA - 1) they aren't ready to operate, and 2) are giving waivers to lots of players. They should be delighted with this deal - gives them a chance to blame Republicans for the delay and get it working 'better' - but that's not the goal; they want it to fail in a way they can blame on the Stupid Party (shouldn't be difficult) so they can 'fix' it with single payer national health service.

#9  I watched a local news report about the Creepy Uncle Sam commercials. Thought this topic was finally getting some consideration. Ends up attempting to be a hit piece using actual investigative reporting, or at least copying somebody else's work. "How many former Koch members are on the board?" "How much of your funding comes from Koch industries?" Brought out their IRS filing papers and everything. Same network which thinks its pretty neat to have Koch Arena in Wichita.

Also teh stuhpid is that about a week ago the news started this How Obamacare Helps You and How To Sign Up campaign. This has been, what, four years in the making and its being broadcast now?

No media narrative here, nope nope nope.
