Afghanistan
Taliban Imposes Controversial Ban on Machinery for Wheat Harvest in Khost Province, Affecting Farmers’ Productivity
“The Prophet Mohammed did not need American machines to thresh and harvest, so neither do you.”
[8am] As the wheat harvest season begins in Afghanistan, the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
has prohibited the use of machinery for threshing and harvesting wheat in Khost province
... across the border from Miranshah, within commuting distance of Haqqani hangouts such as Datta Khel and probably within sight of Mordor. Khost is populated by six different tribes of Pashtuns, the largest probably being the Khostwal, from which it takes its name...
Several farmers in Khost reported on Sunday, May 21, that the Taliban has informed them in the province’s center and districts that they are not allowed to use machinery for wheat harvesting.

According to the farmers, this action by the Taliban has resulted in a prolonged process of wheat collection from the fields.

Farmers state that the extended duration of the wheat collection process, combined with recent hailstorms, has caused damage to their crops.

Thus far, the Taliban has not provided any explanation regarding the reasons for banning the use of machinery for wheat harvesting.

Last year, the Taliban had also declared the prohibition of using machinery for wheat threshing in several provinces, including Ghazni, Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
, and Paktika
...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo...

Khorasani, a Taliban Commander, Arrests Two Nephews of Former National Security Chief of Panjshir
[8am] Sources in Kabul city report that Abdul Hamid Khorasani, one of the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
commanders, has arrested two nephews of Engineer Ali, the former National Security Chief of the previous government in Panjshir.

Sources on Monday, May 22, speaking to Hasht-e Subh, state that Khorasani, along with 20 of his fighters, stormed the house of Engineer Ali’s brother in the eleventh district of Kabul six days ago and brutally beat and kidnapped his 16- and 17-year-old nephews.

These two adolescents are named Mohammad Musa and Idris. According to sources’ claims, they have been subjected to severe torture and humiliation, including electric shocks.

Sources state, "Abdul Hamid’s personal grudges, extortion from Engineer Ali, and the fact that these underage youths are Panjshiris are among the factors behind the attack on Engineer Ali’s brother’s house and the arrest of these young boys."

Hamid Khorasani has so far arrested several members of this former military officer’s family.

According to the sources’ allegations, the Taliban has demanded money and weapons in exchange for the release of these individuals from their families.

Sources, citing Khorasani, emphasize that these young boys have now been handed over to the Haqqani network
...a branch of the Afghan Taliban, based in Pakistain. The network is a family business founded by the later Jalaluddin Haqqani...
, and he cannot free them from the clutches of this network.

Based on the statements of the sources, two other members of Engineer Ali’s family have also been arbitrarily detained recently and transferred to an unknown location.

Previously, Abdul Hamid Khorasani had been accused of extortion and arbitrary arrests.

In the latest incident on May 9, 2023, Khorasani, who had gone to the Jabal Seraj district of Parwan province to arrest several residents, faced a reaction from the Taliban’s Ministry of Defense forces, resulting in the arrest of four of his guards.

Africa Horn
Sudanese army, RSF sign humanitarian ceasefire agreement
[SUDANTRIBUNE] The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) signed a crucial ceasefire agreement in the first hours of Saturday. The aim of this agreement is to facilitate the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid and restore essential services across the country.

Mediated by the United States and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, the agreement underscores the commitment to upholding Sudan’s illusory sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. It reaffirms the principles and commitments established in the Jeddah Declaration of Commitment to Protect the Civilians of Sudan, agreed upon on May 11, 2023.

Taking effect 48 hours after the signing, the ceasefire agreement spans a designated short-term period of seven days.

The agreement encompasses all of Sudan, and the parties jointly bear the responsibility of effectively communicating the ceasefire to the civilian population through various channels, including print, radio, and other means of communication.

Of utmost importance, the ceasefire agreement obliges the parties to ensure freedom of movement for civilians throughout Sudan and protect them from violence, harassment, recruitment, and other forms of abuse. It explicitly prohibits a wide range of actions that could endanger civilians or hinder humanitarian efforts, such as attacks on civilians, targeting of infrastructure, obstruction of aid, and acquisition or distribution of arms.

Conversely, the agreement permits certain actions, including repairing essential services and infrastructure, conducting medical evacuations, and providing non-combat materials and humanitarian assistance. The parties commit to establishing favourable conditions for emergency relief provision and ensuring safe and unimpeded access for humanitarian agencies.

...also in our archives spelt Al-Takfeer wal Hijra, the mocking name given to Jama'at al-Muslimin, a takfiri spinoff of the Muslim Brotherhood that’s been around since 1971. It’s the original home of Ayman Al-Zawahiri and his Al Qaeda buddies, back in Egypt particularly known for requiring members to cut off all contact with non-member friends and relations...
extremist organization banned in Russia*. On July 22, 2021, it became known that on suspicion of involvement in an attempted terrorist attack on the territory of the police department in Kislovodsk, seven more residents of Dagestan, Karachay-Cherkessia, and Stavropol were detained , whom the investigation considers members of an extremist religious association banned in Russia, among them was Yusup Ismailov.

The Southern District Military Court has sentenced Yusup Ismailov, a resident of Stavropol, accused of assisting terrorist activities, Interfax reported today, citing the press service of the FSB Directorate for the Stavropol Territory.

According to the investigation and the court, Ismailov also shared the ideas of the Islamic State organization, the report says. The court sentenced him to nine years in prison with the first three years in prison, and the rest of the term - in a strict regime colony with restriction of liberty for six months. Supporters of the organization belong to the Salafi trend in Islam and are distinguished by strict requirements for fellow believers. They consider an apostate anyone who does not pray five times a prayer, even if such a person calls himself a Muslim, and also insist on the inadmissibility of working in the structure of Russian law enforcement agencies, the "Caucasian Knot" material reads "Kabardino-Balkaria: On the way to disaster. Preconditions for armed performances in Nalchik on October 13-14, 2005."

Since the At-Takfir wal-Hijra group* was recognized as extremist and banned in Russia in 2010, its members have been repeatedly detained in different regions of the country, a British journalist, creator of the project "Chechens in Syria", analyst Joanna Parashchuk.

Volgograd citizen Nikita Zhuravel arrested in the case of burning the Koran
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Volgograd resident Nikita Zhuravel, who was detained in a criminal case on burning the Koran, was arrested for two months. The head of the Ministry of Justice suggested that, after the verdict, the Volgograd citizen be sent to a colony in the region with a Muslim population.

The "Caucasian Knot has reported that on May 20, security forces detained a young man in Volgograd. During the interrogation, the detainee from Volgograd, Nikita Zhuravel, said that he had recorded a video with the burning of the Koran on the instructions of the special services of Ukraine and received 10 thousand rubles for this. He handed over the recording to an employee of the Ukrainian special services, for whom he also filmed military installations, Sledkom said.

A criminal case was initiated under Part 2 of Article 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public actions expressing clear disrespect for society and committed in order to offend the religious feelings of believers), which provides for up to three years in prison.

On May 19, a video was published in which a young man burns the Koran in front of the Cathedral Mosque in the Voroshilovsky district of Volgograd. In the video, he silently demonstrates the cover and burning pages of the Quran.

At the request of the investigation, Nikita Zhuravel was taken into custody, the department of the ICR for the Volgograd region reported today. "On behalf of the chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, investigators, as part of the investigation of a criminal case, check information about the involvement of representatives of the special services of foreign states in organizing the crime," the publication on the agency's website says.

The measure of restraint for Zhuravel was chosen by the Central District Court of Volgograd, the young man was arrested for two months - until July 20, RIA Novosti reports today.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Justice, Konstantin Chuichenko, said that after the verdict was passed, the suspect should serve his sentence in a correctional facility "in one of the Russian regions with a predominantly Muslim population." According to him, "this will promote respect for religion and religious feelings of believers in our multinational and multi-confessional country," the agency writes.

Recall that on May 21, the Sledkom reported that, by decision of the chairman of the department, Alexander Bastrykin, the criminal case was transferred for investigation to the Chechen department of the committee. "The reason for the decision to change the territorial jurisdiction was a number of grounds, in particular, numerous appeals from residents of the Chechen Republic with a request to recognize them as victims," the department explained. Through what channels and when numerous appeals were received, the TFR did not specify.

At the same time , since the beginning of 2023, Ramzan Kadyrov has reacted angrily at least four times to cases of burning the Koran. In addition, he publicly called for reprisal against the burners of the Koran. On March 16, Kadyrov posted a video on his Telegram channel showing people in military uniforms similar to those of the Ukrainian Armed Forces tearing out a page from the Koran to light a fire. The head of Chechnya promised to pay 5 million rubles  for the execution of the participants in the video , in which a page from the Koran was used to light a fire, and 10 million rubles for taking them alive.

Diyala implements extensive security plan in al-Waqf bassin
[Shafaq News] A source in Diyala revealed on Monday the completion of the largest deployment plan in the al-Waqf basin area, located northeast of Baquba, aiming to establish security and restore long-absent stability.

Shaker al-Mulla Jawad, the director of al-Abara sub-district, situated 15 kilometers northeast of Baquba, informed Shafaq News Agency that federal police units, alongside emergency forces, have been deployed in al-Waqf bassin, encompassing over 25 villages through fixed security checkpoints. These checkpoints were preceded by surveillance fortifications equipped with cameras, and safe passages were established in orchards and closed areas to deter attacks and terrorist incidents.

Al-Mulla Jawad emphasized that this fortification and deployment plan is the largest since 2004, resulting from a clear improvement in security and the absence of any violations or incidents for several months. He noted that the security plan for al-Waqf bassin was carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior and Joint Operations, following years of attacks and incidents.

Furthermore, he stated that the fortification and fixed surveillance plan began last year, covering dozens of villages in the vicinity of Abu Sayda and al-Abara sub-districts, northeast of Baquba. He also mentioned that this plan was accompanied by a service plan implemented by the provincial administration to facilitate the return of displaced individuals to their residential areas after bidding farewell to the horrors of terrorism and incidents.

al-Waqf bassin, located 25 kilometers northeast of Baquba, has been a hotbed of security and sectarian tensions, witnessing continuous security breaches and incidents attributed by experts to the lack of security reinforcements and tribal disputes, along with the influence of lawless groups.

At least 3 Palestinians reported killed during IDF raid in West Bank
[IsraelTimes] al-Aqsa Martyr’s Brigade claims dead as members; 6 Paleostinians injured in Balata camp raid; solider lightly hurt; IDF says 3 terror suspects arrested, explosives lab destroyed

At least three Paleostinians were reported killed by Israeli fire during an overnight raid in a northern West Bank refugee camp, Paleostinian health authorities said early Monday.

The al-Aqsa Martyr’s Brigade terror group
...the armed wing of Fatah, the core group of the PLO. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is also the Fatah Big Turban...
later released a statement saying the three had been members of the organization. It said they were killed while battling Israeli forces.

The Paleostinian Health Ministry said at 3 a.m. that three people had been killed by Israeli troops operating in Balata, a large refugee camp directly east of Nablus.

Another six Paleostinians were maimed, including one person at death's door, the ministry said.

A spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces later announced that an officer had been lightly maimed during the raid. The officer was treated for a shrapnel wound and released from hospital.

In a statement, the IDF said it had carried out the operation to arrest terror suspects, with three taken into custody.

The IDF said it located a laboratory containing tens of kilograms of explosives that were to be used for attacks. The military said a team destroyed the site.

A number of weapons, including rifles and bombs, were also seized during the raid, the military said.

The IDF said during the operation, Paleostinian suspects threw explosives and rocks at soldiers, and the troops responded with fire.

While it did not confirm the number of Paleostinian deaths and injuries, the military said that "hits were detected."

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant hailed the raid, saying it had prevented several terror attacks being carried out against Israelis.

"In two successful operations carried out by the security forces overnight in Jenin and Nablus, Death Eaters who opened fire on our forces were eliminated and those planning terror attacks against Israeli citizens were arrested," Gallant tweeted. "We will hunt down and reach our enemies."

The three slain men were named by the PA Health Ministry as Fathi Rizk, 30, Abdullah Abu Hamdan, 24, and Mohammed Zeitoun, 34.

In pictures and videos from Balata shared online, Israeli soldiers and vehicles, including bulldozers, could be seen moving through the densely populated camp. Gunfire could be heard in some videos.

In one short clip circulating online, which could not be immediately verified, soldiers appeared to shoot a man in the back as he runs away after spotting them coming around a corner.

Footage also appears to show the Israeli military blocking or pushing at least one Red Islamic Thingy ambulance trying to enter or exit the camp.

On May 13, the Israeli military raided Balata, sparking a firefight that killed two Paleostinians.

The operation came hours after an Israeli soldier was injured while guarding a road in the nearby West Bank town of Huwara, an area of near-constant friction between settlers and Paleostinians. Troops had been dispatched to search for suspects, the army said Sunday, though it was unclear if the Balata clash was related.
