Taliban claim bomb attack on Afghan police; 14 killed, 145 hurt
[DAWN] The Taliban
...Arabic for students...
grabbed credit for a suicide car-kaboom on a cop shoppe in the Afghan capital, Kabul, on Wednesday which the government said killed 14 people and maimed 145.

There has been no let-up in violence in Afghanistan even though the Taliban and the United States appear close to a historic pact for US troops to withdraw in exchange for a Taliban promise the country would not be used as a base from which to plot attacks by hard boys.

The blast, in the west of the city during the morning rush hour, sent a huge cloud of grey smoke billowing into the sky.

The Taliban said a "recruitment centre" had been attacked by one of their jacket wallahs.

"A large number of soldiers and police were killed or maimed," the Taliban said in a statement.

Deputy Interior Minister Khoshal Sadat later told a news conference 14 people had been killed and 145 maimed. Four of the dead were coppers and the rest civilians, while 92 of the maimed were civilians, he said.

The bomb went off when the vehicle carrying the device was stopped at a checkpoint outside the cop shoppe, said interior ministry front man Nasrat Rahimi.
Khaama Press adds, with great sarcasm:
A car bomb explosion in of Kabul city has totally destroyed a mosque besides inflicting casualties on civilians.

The Kabul Police Headquarters in a statement said “The terrorist attack by Taliban has totally ‘Martyred’ a mosque in 6th district of Kabul city.”

The statement further added that the ‘Wild Taliban’ neither have respect to humanity nor to Islamic values.

A suicide bomber detonated a vehicle packed with explosives close to Police District#6 police station in West of Kabul city earlier today.

Somalis Welcomed As Refugees by Obama, Charged with Terrorism in Arizona
[Judicial Watch] Less than a year after Judicial Watch reported on the terrorist ties of an African refugee living in Arizona, federal authorities in the Grand Canyon State have arrested two refugees from the same continent for conspiring to provide material support to ISIS. In both cases the terrorists entered the United States legally under an Obama era program that welcomed‐and offered residency‐to hundreds of thousands from Muslim countries notorious for terrorist activity. Also, in both instances the terrorists settled in Tucson, about 70 miles north of the Mexican border.

In the most recent case FBI agents from the Tucson Joint Terrorism Task Force arrested two Somalian men, 21-year-old Ahmed Mahad Mohamed and 20-year-old Abdi Yemani Hussein, after a months-long investigation. During the undercover probe the men "repeatedly demonstrated their allegiance and support for ISIS," according to an FBI affidavit in support of a criminal complaint. Mohamed and Hussein also discussed their desire and plans to join ISIS overseas and purchased airline tickets from Tucson to Cairo, Egypt to join the terrorist group. The affidavit includes online and personal communications between the suspects and undercover agents expressing their plan to behead non-believers of Islam like animals. "The best wakeup call is Islamic State to get victory or another 911," according to one of Mohamed's emails with an undercover agent. Hussein wrote that he wanted to blow up the White House and Tucson if anyone tries to stop him. Both men disclosed that they strived to be the most wanted terrorists in the world.

Incredibly, Mohamed and Hussein lived in the U.S. legally because they entered as refugees from Somalia, according to the FBI document. "At the time of their arrest, Mohamed had obtained lawful permanent resident status and Hussein remained a refugee," according to a Justice Department statement that also reveals Mohamed and Hussein planned to conduct an attack within the United States if they were unable to travel to Sinai, an Egyptian peninsula that borders Israel and the Gaza Strip, to join ISIS. The State Department warns against travel to the region due to terrorism. "The Sinai Peninsula remains a particularly dangerous area, with frequent attacks on security forces and civilians," the agency writes in its warning to American citizens. Planned travel to the area by two African young men welcomed as refugees by the U.S. rightfully caught the attention of federal authorities.

Sporadic protests as Indian Kashmir seethes under clampdown
[AlAhram] Thousands of Indian security forces kept a lid on protests in disputed Kashmire on Wednesday, helped by the continued suspension of telephone and internet services after the Himalayan region's special status was scrapped this week.

Neighbours China and Pakistain, which both claim parts of the region, have voiced fierce opposition to India's move dropping a constitutional provision that had allowed the country's only Moslem-majority state to make its own laws.

Streets in the region's main city of Srinagar were deserted for a third day, with almost all shops shut, barring some chemists. Armed federal police manned mobile checkpoints across the city, limiting people's movement.

Knots of young protesters threw stones at soldiers, police and a witness said, amid anger over the telecoms clampdown that began on Sunday.

"These (protests) are mostly localised because of the heavy troop deployment," said a police officer who sought anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to media, adding that police used tear gas and pepper spray to scatter the protesters.

A witness described an episode of hours of stone-throwing on Tuesday in the Old Barzullah area near the city centre, saying, "I saw around 100 boys, in small groups, pelting stones."

He added, "The police fired tear gas to beat them back."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government detained regional leaders and heads of separatist groups before Monday's announcement, which also split the state into two federal territories to ensure greater control.

India has been fighting an armed revolt in Kashmire since 1989, which it blames Pakistain for stoking. In reply, Islamabad says it only gives moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people in their struggle for self-determination.

MEDICAL SERVICES
All telephone, television, and internet connections stayed severed. By night, police vans had patrolled the streets, with loudspeakers warning residents to stay indoors.

South Kashmire, the epicentre of the insurgency in recent years, was completely locked down, said a state government official who visited the area.

"The highway was deserted, except for some trucks and buses carrying labourers out of the valley," added the official, who asked not to be named.

Local authorities have not declared a curfew, but instead clamped down on non-essential travel and gatherings of four or more, effectively keeping restive people in their homes.

Officials of emergency services, such as hospitals and the fire department, said their staff were also frequently stopped at checkpoints, with access sometimes blocked.

The principal of Srinagar's Government Medical College, which runs the state’s largest hospital network, comprising about 3,500 beds, has to personally visit district officials to coordinate services or seek approvals, a hospital official said.

"The principal doesn’t have any means of communication," added the official, who asked not to be identified. "Police stations have been given satellite phones but not him. That shows their (government’s) priority."

#1  I'm curious as to why this was done now as opposed to any time in the past 60+ years? Some precipitating factor or just cumulative stress?
Dron66046? any input?

#2  Mercutio, it was the leftist, appeasement-based policies of previous administrations that had successfully prevented such decisive solutions. The solution to anything lies inescapably within it's roots. The root of this problem was islamism.

Some Background ?
It may prove... insightful as to 'What-If' scenaios ?

At the time of independence, most north Indian muslims instantly demanded their beloved islamic abattoir - Pakistain, and they had dibs on Kashmir. Kashmir had trouble deciding, as it was ruled by a federally funded royalty the very epitome of well-fed indecision, who wanted the best of both worlds - protection guaranteed against annexation along with their autonomy and budget as a princely state. Until the real world came calling, waving the dung-green islamic flags to his filigreed doors , the Kashmiri prince was a happy camper. Kashmir was attacked by the 'Stain and India defended it because as the british taught us before leaving, the Himalayas and the Kashmir valley are a strategic asset for the Union that must never be compromised. He agreed to cede to India, only if we fed his ego. At the time therewas only one party, the Congress. Gandhi, Nehru and the freedom fighters...all were Congress party. They were idealists, hopeful at the time that muslims could be lived with.

When Kashmir was included in India it had to be done so piecemeal, battle by battle and preserving the Rajah's beloved status quo. A special Act had to be cooked up for this unique arrangement. What later became the Article 370.

Immediately after the end of the prince's reign, when a Constituent Assembly was established in Kashmir (1952), only muslim parties arose to prominence, the article 370 disallowed 'outsiders' from participating, or even holding office in Kashmir. When in the late 80s, Pakistain trained jihadis began exterminating all non-muslims, leading to a mass exodus of the native Kashmiri hindus, sikhs, buddhists, chritian missionaries, Kashmir turned into a muslim majority state. Kashmiri legislation was now reduced to ravings of mullahs from the masjids in Pakistan, forcing us to police in ways that often turned ugly. Pakistan backed politicians knew it was in their interest to support the Congress Party the Indian equivalent of the liberal democrat profiteers masquerading as socialist saviours of people.

There was no 'right-wing' back then, except for a fringe lunatic crowd that wanted India to be remade into a utopia from a weed fueled reverie by some old navel gazer.
You must understand that while your conservatives are christian families with truly liberal, god-fearing ideas, the Indian conservative is a miseducated bumpkin with a box of matches in one hand and a box of sweets in the other. Celebrate his diwali with him and you're a friend. Insult or undermine his stupid beliefs and... you're the diwali !

Naturally, a growing socialist democracy and a westward-looking population dreaded their coming to power and refrained from voting for them. Indian mainstream consciousness in the developing years did not come from either Marx or Eisenhower, it came from a slowly liberalizing hollywood, translated to an islamist ruled bollywood. And the hindu right wing were regressive shitkickers in that narrative. Their actually being regressive shitkickers didn't help none either.

For a large part of the 60+ years, India was governed by the autocratic Congress party which over time became the face of globalist liberal appeasement. The Congress leadership became so disconnected from the majority, for decades our taxes fueled their jaunts to Europe, the US, their soirees with liberals from all countries, diluting their own ideologies. Their policies were those of sycophants trying to barter away our economy to foreign commercial entities backed by the UN and globalist players.

When we won wars with Pakistain, our Prime Ministers used to return the land we emptied of sasquatches, repatriating POWs with honor and even paying them damages. The UN could easily dictate it's maladroit decrees on human rights and legalisms upon Kashmir. And that is the time Imran Khan alludes to when he cites 'International Consensus' and UN advisories, the wishful thinking that makes Pak look to Trump to get India to capitulate now is coming from that bygone era.

The change today, is a symptom of voting in a headstrong, majoritarian government, whose leaders do not kow-tow before globalist decrees or line their pockets with proceeds from arms sales. They are hindu ideologues, yes. And some of them are way far from a full deck, but they are anti-muslim and anti-globalist. These audacious SOBs can accomplish anything they set their minds to in a matter of days, no consensus, no discussion. Since 2014, they have a full majority in the House, have carefully selected the supreme court judges and have gagged and domesticated the media completely. I believe we are topped only by N Korea or China in the 'nationalist censorship' You will love your country or die ! department.

This present move is a precursor toward a larger objective. Of transforming Kashmir from a muslim dominated state to just another muslim minority state. We don't wish them ill God knows they only benefit from this. More jobs, easy loans, better legal protections. It is also part of the plan to curb the spread of pan-islamism in the sub-continent. Next up is a National Register that requires all residents to prove their citizenship to continue residing in India. If the 370 thing was an eye-catcher, this one's a doozy.

Propaganda reigns: Five more polio cases in KP as tally reaches 53
[DAWN] Amid propaganda against polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set. Currently the disease is only found in Pakistain and Afghanistain...
vaccine and frequent refusals by parents to inoculate their children against the virus, five more polio cases in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa were confirmed on Tuesday.

When contacted, Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Eradication Babar Bin Atta said: "It has been learnt that none of them was vaccinated during polio campaigns and routine immunisation. Unfortunately, since the incident of Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
[in April], we have been facing severe resistance from parents. They have kept markers at their houses and manage to avoid vaccination by marking the fingers of their children on the very first day of polio campaign."

With the latest addition, the number of polio cases climbed to 53 this year, far more than the last year figure of 12. In a sharp contrast, only eight cases were confirmed in 2017.

The five new victims, including two girls, belonged to Bannu, North Wazoo and Charsadda, with the youngest of them only 22 months old.

An official of Polio Virology Laboratory at the National Institute of Health (NIH), requesting anonymity, said three cases were reported from Bannu and one each from North Waziristan and Charsadda.

Syrian troops take villages, push toward key opposition-held town
[ARABNEWS] Syrian regime forces captured two northwestern villages in an intensified offensive on the last opposition-held part of the country, inching closer to the town of Kfar Zeita which has been held by fighters since 2012, opposition activists and state media reported on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, neighboring Turkey reiterated threats to attack northeastern Syria to push back US-allied Syrian Kurdish forces there — even as Turkish and US officials held in Ankara on establishing a so-called “safe zone” within Syria.

The two developments — the Syrian regime offensive and Turkey’s threats — herald new escalations in Syria’s civil war, now in its ninth year.

The Syrian forces first captured the village of Arbaeen overnight, then the nearby Zakat early in the morning as part of their offensive on Idlib province, the last remaining major opposition stronghold in Syria.

The developments were reported by the regime-controlled Syrian Central Military Media and the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitoring group.

Earlier this week, the Syrian military forces announced it was resuming an offensive on the opposition-held northwest, accusing insurgents of violating the latest truce there.

If the army keeps pushing into the northwest, Syrian forces could get in contact with Turkish troops that man 12 observation posts along the border of Idlib. The closest Turkish point is in Morek, about 12 km east of Zakat.

Syrian troops have been attacking Idlib and a stretch of land around it controlled by insurgents since April 30. The three months of airstrikes and shelling have displaced some 400,000 and left more than 2,000 people dead on both sides.

Zakat and Arbaeen were controlled by Jaish Al-Izza, one of the main opposition groups in northern parts of the central province of Hama.

The Observatory said “regime forces are at the gates” of Kfar Zeita now, adding that fighting in the two villages killed 18 fighters and 10 pro-regime troops.

Kfar Zeita is one of the largest towns in the northern parts of Hama province and lies on the edge of Idlib, which is home to some 3 million people, many of them internally displaced by fighting elsewhere in Syria. Kfar Zeita and the nearby town of Latamneh appear to be main targets of the latest regime offensive.

The New York-based Human Rights Watch reported in 2014 that it has strong evidence that Syrian army helicopters dropped bombs carrying chlorine gas on three opposition-held towns, including Kfar Zeita.

Also Wednesday, Turkey’s Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said his country would like to establish a so-called “safe zone” in northeast Syria jointly with the US but will act alone if necessary. Akar spoke as Turkish and US military officials continued to hold talks in Ankara over the zone.

He said the talks were progressing in a “positive” manner, adding that the American officials’ views were “moving closer” to Turkey’s.

Ankara wants to control — in coordination with the US — a 19-25 mile-deep zone east of the Euphrates River in Syria, and wants no Syrian Kurdish forces there. Turkey sees the Syrian Kurdish fighters as terrorists aligned with a Kurdish insurgency within Turkey.

Turkey has threatened to attack this part of Syria to push back the US-allied Syrian Kurdish forces, known as Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF.

Also on Wednesday, Syrian state news agency SANA reported that a car bomb exploded in the SDF-controlled northern village of Qahtaniyeh, killing several people and wounding others.

ISIS ‘resurging’ in Syria as US pulls troops: watchdog
[Rudaw] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) jihadist group was "resurging" in Syria while the United States withdrew troops, and has solidified its turban capabilities in neighboring Iraq, a Defense Department watchdog said Tuesday.

The jihadists ‐ who suffered major territorial losses at the hands of Iraqi and Syrian forces backed by a US-led international air campaign ‐ are exploiting weaknesses in local forces to make gains, the report from the Office of Inspector General said.

"Despite losing its territorial ’caliphate’, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) solidified its turban capabilities in Iraq and was resurging in Syria this quarter," according to the report.

ISIS has been able to "regroup and sustain operations" in the two countries partially because local forces "remain unable to sustain long-term operations, conduct multiple operations simultaneously, or hold territory that they have cleared", the report said.

The group’s Syria resurgence came as Washington "completed a partial withdrawal" from the country, a move made despite commanders saying that the local US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) "needed more training and equipping for counterinsurgency operations".

Last year, US President Donald Trump
...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US...
declared victory against ISIS and ordered the withdrawal of all American troops from Syria ‐ a decision that prompted then defense secretary Jim Mattis to quit.

"CREATE TURMOIL"

, and Washington is pushing for increased military support from other members of the international coalition against ISIS.

ISIS jihadists have carried out targeted liquidations, ambushes and suicide kabooms in both countries and in Iraq have "established a more stable command and control node and a logistics node for coordination of attacks," the report said.

The group’s strategy in the two countries is to "create turmoil in territory it has lost" and prevent local security forces "from establishing effective control and maintaining civil order".

The US-led coalition against ISIS believes the jihadist group likely has between 14,000 and 18,000 "members" in Iraq and Syria, among them up to 3,000 foreigners, the report said.

ISIS has suffered major losses, but its predecessor the Islamic State of Iraq likewise appeared on the ropes after Sunni Moslem rustics turned against the jihadists, combining with the US "surge" of troops in 2007-2008 to deal them a body blow.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was however able to revive the bully boys’ fortunes, drawing on subsequent widespread Sunni anger with Iraq’s Shiite-led government to rebuild, aided by the chaos and violence of the Syrian civil war.

The jihadists seized control of large parts of Syria and Iraq, declaring an Islamic "caliphate" in 2014 and committing widespread atrocities, and were only pushed back after multiple years of heavy fighting and a massive US air campaign.

#1  at this point we must realize that ISIS is not likely to be exterminated any more than Al Q, the Taliban, Boko Haram, Al Shabaad, etc.

move to a containment-like policy
