New York Times Writer Arrested As Secret Iran Agent Acknowledges He Was Paid By Iranian Government
[Algemeiner] The frequent New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

opinion contributor who was arrested earlier this month and charged with acting as an unregistered foreign agent of the Iranian government acknowledges that he was paid by the Iranian mission at the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
"I received checks from the Mission’s UN account and it never occurred to me that I was doing anything illegal," the New York Times opinion writer, Kaveh Afrasiabi, wrote in a statement to the Algemeiner.

He called the government’s claim that he was a secret Iranian agent "absurd" and "wild."

"Whatever I did was perfectly legal and fully transparent," Afrasiabi said, saying that he had believed the Foreign Agents Registration Act "only applied to those engaging in lobbying efforts on behalf of a foreign government, which I never did."

A New York Times spokesperson did not respond to a query about whether the newspaper, which according to a search on its website Monday morning had not yet covered the federal criminal complaint against [Kaveh] Afrasiabi, plans to tell its readers about the situation. The spokesperson also did not respond to a question about whether the newspaper plans to publish an editor’s note indicating that the opinion pieces came from someone who was getting paid by the Iranian government.

Afrasiabi said the payments from the Iranian government — about $265,000 since 2007, plus health insurance coverage, federal prosecutors alleged — had not swayed his writing. "At no point in my professional career, I have been moved by anything other than my rather puritanical moral responsibility as an intellectual," he said.

Russian warplanes destroy ISIS sites in central Syria: video
[AlMasdar] The Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian government troops began a large-scale counter-terrorist operation in the Badiya al-Sham region of central Syria, following a number of attacks carried out by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) terrorist attack.

According to reports from central Syria, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), with help from the Russian Aerospace Forces, have been combing through a large portion of the Syrian Desert, as they attempt to put an end to the terrorist group’s presence in this vast region.

As pointed out above, the Russian Aerospace Forces have played a major role in this ongoing operation against the Islamic State, as they launch almost hourly attacks across the Badiya al-Sham region between the Hama, Homs, al-Sweida and Deir Ezzor governorates of central Syria.

In a video released on Tuesday by the RuVesna.Su YouTube channel, the Russian Aerospace Forces can be seen zeroing in on Islamic State targets in the Badiya al-Sham region and then destroying them.

Turkish forces heavily target strategic towns in northern Syria
[AlMasdar] The Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces, alongside their allied Syrian fighters, continued their campaign in northern Syria this week, hitting a number of targets around two key towns controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) east of the Euphrates.

According to reports from al-Raqqa front, the Ottoman Turkish army and their allied Syrian forces launched several artillery and rocket strikes on the SDF’s positions near the town of Ain Issa, causing powerful explosions that could be heard as far as the administrative capital.

The Ottoman Turkish army and their allied forces then expanded their attacks to the western countryside of the al-Hasakah Governorate, where they hit the Syrian Democratic Forces’ positions near the key town of Tal Tamr, which also has a Syrian Arab Army (SAA) presence.

These attacks by the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces have become more prevalent over the last few months, prompting local residents in Tal Tamr and Ain Issa to flee their homes in fear of a potential offensive led by Ankara.

Furthermore, it has prompted the Russian military police to get more involved, especially in the Tal Tamr countryside, where they have mobilized a large force to patrol the areas and ensure the safety of the local residents.

While The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
has not commented on whether or not they will launch another offensive east of the Euphrates, all indications from their military moves point to a new operation to capture Ain Issa in the coming months.

(NLF) traded attacks near the towns of al-Fateera and al-Bara’a, along with Kafr Nabl, i the southern countryside of the Idlib Governorate.

These attacks did not result in heavy casualties for either side, but it did prompt both sides to move in forces to the area around the Jabal al-Zawiya region of southern Idlib.

Since the start of the new, the Jabal al-Zawiya front has experienced an increase in hostilities between the Syrian Arab Army and Ottoman Turkish-backed holy warriors, which has left region of the country relatively unstable.

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) announced that one of its units managed to eliminate the terrorist group that attacked buses carrying soldiers on the Deir Ezzor-Palmyra International Highway.

A military source said in a statement that his units "secured the international road in Deir Ezzor" after eliminating the terrorist group that is linked to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. Syrians protest against Kurdish siege in Hasakah province
Astroturf to justify the coming Syrian Arab Army attack against the recalcitrant Kurds Did the local government officials pay the kids by check or in cash? Inquiring minds want to know.
[AlAhram] Citing its news hound in Hasakah, SANA said that the SDF opened fire to disperse the protesters with no reports on injuries yet

Crowds of people held a protest on Wednesday against the Kurdish militia siege of government-controlled zones in Syria's northeastern province of Hasakah, state news agency SANA reported.

The people protested against the siege imposed by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Kurdish security force, Assayish, which led to preventing the entry of food and other necessities to government areas in Hasakah.

The students have also been denied access to their schools as a result of the siege that has been in place for two weeks.

Citing its news hound in Hasakah, SANA said that the SDF opened fire to disperse the protesters with no reports on injuries yet.

The SDF controls large swathes of Hasakah while the Syrian government controls a few areas in Hasakah, including the airport of the city of Qamishli.

Recently, tension started brewing between both sides as the Syrian government has slammed in a statement the SDF due to their policies and the support they get from the US.

Contrast Al Masdar’s more balanced approach:
SDF disperses protesters over demonstration against siege of Hasakah city

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) dispersed protesters on Wednesday that attended a demonstration against the siege imposed on the city by their troops.

According to reports, several people gathered in al-Hasakah’s administrative capital to protest the siege imposed by the SDF on the government-held neighborhoods of the city.

The reports said the SDF troops and Asayish police forces fired gunshots in the area to disperse the crowd and put an end to the demonstration on Wednesday morning.

The reports said the protest was held on Wednesday against the backdrop of the Syrian Democratic Forces’ decision to close the exits from the government-held areas of the administrative capital, which they said has resulted in the blockage of food and supplies to the people there.

The protesters tried to break the siege on the security square in the city, amid chants in support of the Syrian government and Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
, the reports from the administrative capital added.

The SDF has not yet commented on what happened.
