Psaki denies report taxpayer funds will be used for crack pipes and slams Republicans for their 'political games' when asked if Biden is encouraging drug use by opening door to safe injection sites
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • 'They were never a part of the kit,' said Psaki. 'It was inaccurate reporting'

  • On Monday an HHS spokesperson told the Washington Free Beacon that included in these kits these kits could be pipes to smoke 'any illicit substance'

  • HHS on Wednesday put out a statement contradicting its previously reported remarks

  • 'No federal funding will be used directly or through subsequent reimbursement of grantees to put pipes in safe smoking kits,' they said

  • Meanwhile, the Justice Department (DOJ) signaled Monday it may allow 'safe injection sites' to open up across the U.S.

  • 'The White House is committed ... to taking steps to address the opioid crisis. This is not an issue that is inflicting just blue states,' Psaki said of the DOJ's move

#3  As is typical, government efforts to address a crisis seem aimed at making it worse.
Making it easier for addicts to inject addictive drugs is a puzzling way to reduce addiction.
Its obvious effect is to encourage addiction by making it easier, and less dangerous,
Yet this is the standard government approach.
Its cure for poverty is to make poverty more tolerable to the poor, never to help them emerge from poverty on their own,

Ford, GM tell their dealers to stop ripping off car buyers ‐ or else
[KTLA-75] Two of America’s biggest carmakers have a message for their dealers: Stop ripping off customers.

Ford and General Motors are warning money-hungry dealers to stop exploiting supply issues — and shortages — by charging more than the sticker price for vehicles.

Automakers don’t set prices for their cars. Instead, they offer a "manufacturer’s suggested retail price," or MSRP.

While that’s understood in the industry to reflect the fair value of a new car or truck, dealers are free to ignore the MSRP if they so choose, setting prices at higher levels.

Ford’s chief executive, Jim Farley, warned dealers that they could be pushed to the rear of the line for delivery of new models if they persist in playing fast and loose with the MSRP.

"We have very good knowledge of who they are," Farley told financial analysts while unveiling the company’s latest quarterly results.

Ford estimates that about 10% of the company’s nearly 3,000 dealers are charging above the sticker price — a practice that grew more widespread during the pandemic.

GM, meanwhile, told its dealers that it will clamp down on "a small minority of bad actors" hitting customers with prices "far in excess" of what’s on the sticker. It too said deliveries of new models could be withheld if things didn’t change.

COVID-related supply shortages, including for the microchips that are now commonplace in new vehicles, have created a seller’s market. With demand outstripping supply, some dealers have embraced this as an opportunity to pad their pockets after months of pandemic setbacks.

#1  ...The dealers are apparently digging in, blinded to their own best interest. Ford, on the other hand, has a nuclear weapon in the form of a huge unsold inventory of cars nobody wants. If a dealer wants to thumb their nose at corporate, then he'll get a surprise on transport day: one - EXACTLY ONE - F-150E Lightning, and four base Escorts.

And he won't get anything else until he sells those damned Escorts.

#2  OPEN COMMENT TO US AUTOMAKERS

Given the New Vehicle price tags, we have already purchased our last NEW vehicle back in 2018.

Seriously our days of paying these Union wage prices for more than likely a NAFTA made vehicle, made in Mexico with parts from CCP are over.

Now that you are faced with assembly line part shortages, labor issues, production numbers, hyper-inflation issues, and limited buyers in this Liberal mismanaged pandemic economy. Your answer to making the stockholder promised numbers, to keep your chossy jobs and $$ million salaries is to stick it to the buyers.

As it stands the lately produced vehicles are lucky to last the length of the loan needed to get a monthly payment to afford it.

So unless things change, you had better start wheeling and dealing in the BKGRD with Congressional types for a bailout... IF the Liberal idiots have not already bankrupted the US economy and Gov.

Grocery prices are expected to rise ‐ again
[Washington Examiner] Supply chain problems and high labor costs are driving another hike in grocery prices.

A Goldman Sachs report showed that consumers should expect "substantial increases in food prices" in the likes of a 6% climb this year — similar to what people experienced last year.

A Bureau of Labor Statistics report indicated that prices across a range of goods and services rose 7% between December 2020 and December 2021. It's the largest annual inflation growth in more than 40 years.

Food prices overall saw the largest increase since 2008, with a 6.5% jump in December. Meat prices went up 15%, while egg prices increased by 11%.

#4  Cars, food, energy, Medical coverage and costs, Gasoline, you name it. ALL are rising in cost IF you can find them. So realistically the US consumer is seeing 21% to 100++% price increases, depending on the item needed.

However, for some lame reason, DC Congress only saw fit to allow a
Social Security 2022 COLA of only 5.9%.

So DC think about this, we see you spending $### Billions bailing out industries or protecting other nations. But you have failed to protect your own senior citizens/Voters.

Also was the Inflation the other shoe in the Pandemic to drop?

Because both Covid-19/22 and Inflation are literally killing Seniors.

It is like both were designed/engineered to eliminate the Elderly, those in unprotected demographic groups with lower incomes and those with existing medical issues.

#7  NN

Congress does not control the COLA adjustment to Soc Security. It is based on BLS data per statute.

Also the reason it was 5.9% was that it is based on a Oct1 to Sept 30 calculation, i.e., the fiscal year. The high Oct, Nov and Dec 2021 increases will be factored into next year's COLA

#12  I had a positive brain fart early last fall (21).
I realized that I would need some new truck tires before the end of spring (22).
So I bought 4 in October, took delivery when they made it thru the blockade, and tucked them away in the barn.
On THE DAY of the big freeze I took them back to the dealer for mounting and disposal. I got an extra 4 months of wear out of the old ones. The new mudders worked beautiful in the ice and snow, and following mud.
The dealer told me if he could get them now they would be something like $100 more/each and the cost of mount and balance would also be $10 more/each, which he ate due to the pre-existing contract.

#15  I stll feel congress is Failing Seniors.

Given that Congress is taking an ever bigger chunk out of workers’ paychecks to cover Social Security and Medicare because there are ever fewer workers supporting each retired person, and given that the younger workers will have to work years longer than their elders before they’ll be able to collect anything at all, it seems fair that those already retired share some of the cost. The promises Congress made to future retirees in the past were impossible to keep, as was being discussed by the time I started paying attention in the first half of the 1980s.

I say this with the knowledge that because I’m short six months of the minimum years of paid employment to get back anything that I paid in, and because Mr. Wife was fairly ruthless about saving all the years of our marriage, it is highly likely that he and I will get nothing at all from Social Security when the time comes.

Despite Congress’s promises, designed to buy votes for the Democratic Party, Social Security is returning to its original purpose: a safety net for the elderly poor, not a state pension plan for the working class.

Government Corruption
CDC director: Now that we've got your attention ... nothing's changing
[Hot Air] Remember that non-alignment NBC News noted between the Biden administration and Democratic governors chafing at eternal masking? When the White House hurriedly added a COVID-19 press briefing from its task force to the schedule this morning, most people expected to see a shift in the "science" to reflect support for blue-state rollbacks.

Instead, CDC director Rochelle Walensky delivered ... a heapin’ helping of the status quo:

Then what was the purpose of adding a briefing today? Apparently, the White House knew it would get lots of questions about Biden’s gubernatorial allies breaking ranks on the pandemic restrictions, thanks to their own political "science," so to speak. Rather than bend to the reality that Americans — including some of Biden’s fellow Democrats —have begun revolting against these restrictions, the CDC and Walensky wants to double down on them instead. For now, anyway.

If that was going to be the message, though, why hold a last-minute press briefing? Walensky et al could have just released a statement to the same effect without raising expectations of some kind of change. This White House has proven remarkably incompetent at that kind of expectations management.

The data on the CDC’s tracking website might give a hint as to why they’re reluctant to move at the moment. Daily deaths with COVID-19 diagnoses attached have plateaued but not yet started declining, and deaths are a lagging indicator:

#1  Also the CDC:
CNBC, February 4th

The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices met Friday to debate the risks of developing myocarditis after receiving Moderna's or Pfizer's vaccines.
Though rare, Pfizer and Moderna's vaccines have both been linked to a risk of myocarditis.
However, the risk was higher following the second dose of Moderna's vaccine in people ages 18 to 39, according to the CDC's safety surveillance program.

I missed this one. Remember the J&J had already been warned about.

And looky there, risks increase with number of shots.

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
Sweden Declares the Pandemic to be "Over"
[SUMMIT] Sweden, a country which never imposed significant lockdown measures, has officially declared that the COVID-19 pandemic is "over" and announced that it will be lifting all remaining restrictions.

"As we know this pandemic, I would say it’s over," Minister of Health Lena Hallengren told Dagens Nyheter. "It’s not over, but as we know it in terms of quick changes and restrictions it is."

According to Reuters, these comments were as close as possible to the country "effectively declaring the pandemic over."

From today, bars and restaurants are allowed to stay open beyond 11pm again and there are no limits on guest numbers.

Attendance limits for indoor venues and vaccine passports, which were temporarily introduced in response to the Omicron variant, have both been scrapped.

Most testing rules for COVID-19 have also been abolished.

Sweden being the first country to declare the pandemic a done deal will be sure to infuriate lockdown fanatics and mask zealots.

Despite being on the receiving end of an intense backlash, the country’s approach of refusing to impose harsh lockdown restrictions has been completely vindicated.

Unlike other Europeans countries such as France and Spain which imposed draconian lockdown rules, Sweden’s COVID-19 death rate is comparatively better and the country is exiting the pandemic while other nations are refusing to lift restrictions for at least months more.

The Scandinavian country did not enforce strict mask mandates, with senior epidemiologist Anders Tengell asserting that face coverings were in fact "dangerous" because they provided a false sense of security while failing to stop the spread of the virus.

As we highlighted in October 2020, Sweden again refused to follow other European countries by re-imposing lockdown rules, arguing that those beset by loneliness and misery of being isolated had suffered enough.

Congratulations, Sweden.

Covid-19 deaths will likely sextuple, from 3,000 to more than 18,000.
— Alex Shephard, The New Republic, 10 Aug. 2021

This has been touched on here at Rantburg; that if there were to be a serious air contamination, chemical, biological, whatever, everyone who believed in magic masks will be the first to check out.

Europe
US expert warns France and Germany will "throw the Americans under the bus"
[BRICS] US President Joe Biden said after his meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that he will "end" the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Europe if Moscow sent troops into Ukraine.

"If Russia invades ... there will no longer [be] a Nord Stream 2," Biden said during a joint press conference with Scholz. "We will bring an end to it."

When pressed for more details on just exactly how the US can achieve this, Biden could only mutter: "I promise you, we'll be able to do it."
"Listen, Fat"
The American president of course found it difficult to answer this question because his country is not involved in the Nord Stream 2 project and has very little influence over it - the only thing Washington can hope for is that sustained pressure on European allies will make them capitulate to their demands.

However, the reality is that Germany, Europe’s most important country alongside France, has its own economic interests that must be served and not compromised for the sake of the US. Berlin has defended its ability to complete the pipeline, despite the fact that the US opposes the project in any way possible. Washington has no interest in the fact that the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is vital for the German economy and industry.

None-the-less, to try and appease Washington, Scholz stressed to journalists that Germany was "absolutely united" and that "we will do the same steps, and they will be very, very hard to Russia."
"How hard?"
"Very hard"

This is on the assumption though that Russia will invade Ukraine, something that the Kremlin has continually stressed it has no ambition of doing despite the constant warnings and rhetoric emanating from Washington. Both Berlin and Paris understand that Russia does not want to invade Ukraine and desperately want the manufactured crisis to end.

Brandon Weichert, author of "Winning Space: How America Remains a Superpower" and a former US congressional staffer, said to the Express newspaper this week: "Paris is hesitant about getting too bogged down in a Russo-American fight over Ukraine for the same reason that Germany is desperate to avoid escalation in the particular fight over Ukraine."

"Paris, like Berlin, fears the prospects of their own countries becoming frontline states yet again in either a renewed Cold War between Russia and the US or, more frighteningly, an actual war," he added.

Following talks on Friday in Moscow between Russian and French Presidents Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron, the Financial Times, citing French sources, reported that Russia had "moved" towards de-escalating the situation around Ukraine.

Specifically, the meeting was said to revolve around the withdrawal of Russian troops from Belarus after the end of their exercises in the country. According to sources, this will lead to further meetings and the signing of an agreement on "structured dialogue on collective security."

Convenient yes, vital no.
I think Germany would have appreciated some clear words from Biden that the closure of Nord Stream 2 would come along with a U.S. boycott of Russian oil.

It seems to be a little hypocritical to demand sacrifices from others (especially if you benefit from them).

CENTCOM nominee promotes Middle East integrated air and missile defense
[Jpost] Israel's addition to CENTCOM brings "rare opportunity" to the table, says CENTCOM head Frank McKenzie.

Israel’s incorporation into US Central Command has increased the possibility of a regional integrated air and missile defense system against aerial threats, top US generals have said.

“That’s probably the area with some of the greatest opportunity: working toward an integrated air and missile defense Army Lt.-Gen. Michael Kurilla was quoted by Defense News as telling the Senate Armed Services Committee on Wednesday. “I think the addition of Israel... will help with that. We are collectively stronger together, and there are areas where each one brings unique capabilities.”

Kurilla, who currently leads the 18th Airborne Corps, is likely to be confirmed in the coming days as the head of US Central Command, replacing Marine Gen. Frank McKenzie.

During a virtual seminar hosted by the Middle East Institute, McKenzie also touted the idea of integrated air and missile defenses as a “rare opportunity” since Israel joined CENTCOM.

“The unique capabilities that Israel brings, now that Israel is in the Central Command area of responsibility, is another great resource that we can draw upon as we build this,” he was quoted by Airforce Magazine as saying.

While Iran “has relentlessly” built its ballistic missile stockpile, McKenzie said, and that its fleet of drones and land-attack cruise missiles has increased over the past five to seven years, it also created the opportunity to bring Gulf countries together to counter the threats.

“Here’s the opportunity: collective security in that region could best be approached, I would argue, initially from an integrated approach to air and missile defense,” McKenzie said.

According to him, such a system would not threaten state sovereignty, and would not need foreign forces stationed in other countries.

“Instead, what it’s about is the sharing of information,” he said. “Because really, in order to have integrated air and missile defense, what you need is good sensor coverage that is shared, to build what we call a common operational picture that all partners can see.”

As rocket and drone attacks against the United Arab Emirates have increased, talks are under way between Israel and several Persian Gulf states to understand what air defense systems are most relevant for the threats that they face.

Sources familiar with the discussions told The Jerusalem Post that discussions with the Gulf countries centered around shared threats such as rocket and drone attacks. The Post was told that they allowed officials to understand that Israel has systems other than the Iron Dome that may be a better solution to such threats.

While the UAE has highly formidable medium-to-high altitude air defense systems, both France and the United States announced following the attacks that they would assist the country in defending against missiles and rockets.

Israel has also offered the UAE support against such threats. Defense Minister Benny Gantz recently returned from a historic trip to Manama where he signed the first Memorandum of Understanding with the kingdom.

The agreement will set a solid security cooperation framework that formalizes defense relations between the two countries, allowing for increased cooperation in various fields such as intelligence sharing, military-to-military training, cooperation between defense industries and more.

Gantz said during his visit that the defense agreement “will contribute to the security of both countries and the stability of the region.”

Prenatal ultrasound can sometimes spot early signs of autism, Israeli research finds
[IsraelTimes] Routine ultrasound scans during the second trimester can spot early indications of autism spectrum disorder, enabling early intervention, according to a new study by researchers at Ben Gurion University and Soroka Medical Center.

Researchers from the Azrieli National Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment Research spotted anomalies in the heart, kidneys, and head in 30 percent of cases where the child later developed ASD, the university said in a statement Wednesday.

That’s a figure three times higher than typically found in fetuses in the general population.

The study was published last month in the peer-reviewed journal Brain, and will be discussed at the annual Israeli Meeting for Autism Research, scheduled for later this month.

Links have been found between fetal abnormalities and subsequent diagnosis with ASD, though data on the matter is still lacking. Whereas previous studies have shown that children born with congenital diseases, in particular those involving the heart and kidneys, had a higher chance of developing ASD, the current research showed it was possible to see the signs even before birth.

"Prenatal ultrasound is an excellent tool to study abnormal fetal development as it is frequently used to monitor fetal growth and identify fetal anomalies throughout pregnancy," the researchers wrote.

"Doctors can use these signs, discernable during a routine ultrasound, to evaluate the probability of the child being born with ASD," researcher Prof. Idan Menashe said in the university statement.

"Our findings suggest that certain types of ASD that involve other organ anomalies begin and can be detected in utero."

A prenatal diagnosis of autism could mean that treatment begins at birth rather than waiting until age two, three, or even later as is the usual case, the statement said.

The Center has previously found that early diagnosis and treatment can significantly increase social ability in autistic children.

The team reviewed data from hundreds of prenatal ultrasound scans from a fetal anatomy survey conducted in mid-gestation drawn from the National Autism Database, which is supported by the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology and the Azrieli Foundation.

Anomalies were found more often in boys than in girls, the severity of the anomalies was found to be linked to the severity of the subsequent ASD.

Wisconsin: Mediagenic Afghan Arrested for Sexual Assault
[PJMedia] The story couldn’t have been more heartwarming. Matiullah Matie, an Afghan refugee who is a husband and father of eight children, cried out "Salaam! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!" as he greeted a family of Hmong refugees. Matie had previously been resettled in Wausau, Wis., and had come to make the new arrivals feel at home. He also took the opportunity to talk at length to the media about his experience as a refugee, and became the exclusive focus of a WSAW report a week later. On Wednesday, however, the mediagenic Matie’s star turn came to a sudden and sickening halt: he was arrested for sexual assault.

Wausau residents did everything they could to make the Matie family feel welcome. WSAW noted that "people have been coming to their home constantly to help them with their immediate needs and to get them connected with community resources." The Maties reciprocated the kindness: "Each encounter greeted with Afghan hospitality, either some milk tea, food, or both." Matiullah Matie explained, "A person to coming here should eat and drink something with us." Marvelous!

The Matie family, said WSAW, once lived in the Afghan city of Lashkar Gah, which Afghans refer to as "Little America." Matie "worked alongside numerous U.S. agencies in Afghanistan including the Marines, Army, USAID, and Spirit of America," and "also spoke publicly against the Taliban

Nasrallah: If Israel attacks Iran, Hezbollah won’t necessarily join fight
[IsraelTimes] Lebanese terror chief claims Israel and US fear war with Islamic Theocratic Republic, warns of ’a very intense and harsh’ Iranian response in case of Israeli attack.

Hezbollah chief His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
...The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
on Tuesday claimed Israel was not serious about actually attacking Iran. But if it does, he said, his Lebanese terror group will not automatically retaliate on Tehran’s behalf, but will decide whether or not to get involved.
Interesting...
In an interview with Iranian state TV, the leader of the Iran-backed Shiite organization appeared to attempt to assert Hezbollah’s independence from Tehran, while also claiming Israel was afraid to go to war against either.

"Iran
...They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
is a strong regional state and any war with it will blow up the entire region," he said, according to Naharnet.

Amid domestic criticism that his group acts in Tehran’s interests and not Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. ...
’s, he challenged anyone to "tell us about a single act that Hezbollah did for the sake of Iran rather than for the sake of Lebanon."

He denied the Iranian embassy in Beirut was involved in Hezbollah’s decision-making.

Nasrallah claimed that the United States fears going to war with Iran, asserting it was incapable of stopping Tehran’s nuclear program. He also warned of "a very intense and harsh" Iranian response if Israel attacks Iran.

"Iran is not on joking terms with anyone," he was quoted as saying by Press TV.

He claimed that Hezbollah’s precision-guided missiles were spread all around Lebanon, so Israel would need to launch a full-scale war in order to destroy them.

He also accused Israel of being afraid to go to war against Hezbollah.

"Were the Israeli regime certain that it would be victorious in a war with Hezbollah, it would not hesitate for even a moment," Nasrallah said.

He also claimed that Israeli drone flights over Lebanon have been "greatly reduced" due to Hezbollah’s improved air defenses.

Nasrallah added that he opposes sharing offshore gas with Israel and does not really care about negotiations between Beirut and Jerusalem over determining the countries’ exclusive economic zones.

"We do not consider ourselves to be concerned with the technical discussions about the sea border demarcation with Israel," he said.

Nasrallah’s remarks come several weeks after both Israel and Lebanon announced their intentions to resume talks over an area of about 860 square kilometers (330 square miles) of the Mediterranean Sea that both countries claim as being within their exclusive economic zones.

The US envoy mediating the talks has since met with Israeli and Lebanese officials.

The two countries started indirect negotiations through a US mediator in 2020 at a UN peacekeeping base in Lebanon’s Naqoura, but the talks have stalled several times. The last round of talks on the matter was held last May.

Lebanon has sunk deep into an economic and financial crisis that started in late 2019 — a culmination of decades of corruption and mismanagement by the political class.

The small Mediterranean country is eager to resolve its border dispute with Israel, paving the way for potential lucrative oil and gas deals.
Finally a motivation for Lebanon to negotiate seriously instead of falling back on Jew hate.

NFL player wants to have dinner with Hitler

[NYPost] Jonathan Allen, a defensive tackle for the Washington Commanders, listed Adolf Hitler among a trio of people he’d like to have dinner with.

Allen, 27, was doing an “ask me anything” on his Twitter account, and answered a query regarding which three guests he’d invite for dinner.

“My grandad, hitler, and micheal [sic] Jackson,” Allen answered.

Why Hitler?

"He’s a military genius and I love military tactics but honestly I would want to pick his brain as to why he did what he did," Allen tweeted.

"I’m also assuming that the people I’ve chosen have to answer my questions honestly.”

Jonathan Allen wrote on Twitter he’d want to get dinner with Hitler because, Allen said, “he’s a military genius.”

Allen has since deleted his tweets referencing Hitler and apologized.

One child died and other civilians were wounded in Turkish drone attack

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A Turkish drone bombed a car in the village of Bahira in the western countryside of Amuda, near the Syrian-Turkish border on Wednesday evening.

“A child lost his life and some others were wounded in the bombardment,” North press reported a security source.

“The car was targeted by two bombs, but only hit it,” the source said.

“The village of Ain Qirda in the countryside of al-Derbasiyah was bombed by several shells from the Turkish territory, and civilians’ homes were damaged as a result,” according to the security source.

The Turkish bombing of a car in the village of Bahira led to the outage of the Tel-Habash electricity line, which supplies 40 villages with electricity, Amuda Electricity Center said.

Sudanese official said to be in Israel on secret visit
[IsraelTimes] Unidentified official seeking to advance relations between the countries, according to Kan news.

A top official of the current Sudanese military government is currently in Israel for a secret visit, Rooters and Kan news reported Wednesday.

The unidentified government representative was seeking to advance relations between the countries, the reports said, with Rooters saying he’d arrived at the beginning of the week.

The Kan report was unsourced, while Rooters cited an unnamed official with knowledge of the visit.

There was no immediate confirmation from Israeli or Sudanese government officials.

Sudan’s top general, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who seized power in a coup last year, has said that "Sudan’s relationship with Israel may eventually take a natural form."

In an interview with the Al Arabiya network published in December, he said that normalization with Israel was "necessary to return Sudan to the international community."

It was the military, not the civilian leadership, in Sudan that has played a more active role in advancing normalization with Israel. al-Burhan had been the more prominent player leading normalization efforts in Israel.

Israeli delegations have reportedly visited Sudan several times in recent months.

Sudan and Israel agreed to normalize ties in 2020, although progress has been slow amid Sudanese government instability and anti-Israel sentiment among the Sudanese public.

Al-Burhan seized power and detained Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok on October 25, 2021, but after international condemnation and mass protests he reinstated the premier nearly a month later, in a deal that many in the pro-democracy movement opposed.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
Hamdok announced his resignation as prime minister last month amid an ongoing political deadlock.

"I have tried my best to stop the country from sliding towards disaster," Hamdok said, addressing the nation.

"In view of the fragmentation of the political forces and conflicts between the (military and civilian) components of the transition... despite everything that has been done to reach a consensus... it has not happened," he said.

Sudan "is crossing a dangerous turning point that threatens its whole survival," he added.

Hamdok’s resignation has left the military in sole command of the country, with some analysts saying this may lead to even more bloodshed and repressive policies, following months of street protests and violent mostly peaceful crackdowns that have claimed at least 57 lives.

French court sentences jihadist man of Yazidi origin to 12 years in prison
[Rudaw] A French criminal court on Tuesday handed a 12-year sentence of imprisonment to a French-Armenian citizen, originally from the Yazidi ethno-religious group, for his membership of a jihadist group in Syria, reported AFP.

Artyom Aloyan, who was born 33 years ago in what is now Armenia, migrated to La Belle France in 2002 and later became a citizen of the country. He converted to Islam in 2012 and joined the jihadist group al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front in Syria, subsequently travelling through The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
and receiving training from the group for two months, as disclosed to Ottoman Turkish authorities after his arrest in the country’s Hatay province in August 2016.

Aloyan had visited Turkey after being injured in a tank shooting in Syria in 2016, as reported by Haber 7 at the time.

The French prosecution accused Aloyan of "participation in a criminal network." He admitted during the Tuesday trial to have fought in the ranks of the al-Nusra Front, but denied that the group is a terrorist one." al-Nusra is not a terrorist organization. This is a Western view," AFP quoted him as telling the judges.

The Gay Paree Assize Court sentenced him to 12 years in prison as requested by the Public Prosecutor which had noted that the maximum penalty for such a crime is 30 years.

"The Gay Paree Assize Court has been convinced of the responsibility of Artyom Aloyan in the crime with which he is accused," Chief Justice David Hale was quoted as saying when reading the verdict.

"It is worth noting the terrorist nature of the al-Nusra Front organization, which is linked to al-Qaeda and has carried out serious jihadist actions that are manifested, among other things, by committing atrocities and attacks, especially in Iraq and Syria," he added.

Aloyan had been sentenced to four years and two months in Turkey in 2016, but he was repatriated to La Belle France without serving his full sentence.

Al-Nusra Front was formed in 2012 in Syria, fighting against the Syrian government forces. The jihadist group has been designated as a terrorist group by several countries, including the US. It has changed its name many times.

One civilian, three troops killed in a bomb attack in al-Anbar

Shafaq News/ Three Iraqi soldiers and one civilian were reportedly killed in a bomb attack that targeted their vehicle in al-Rutba district, western al-Anbar, on Wednesday morning.

A source told Shafaq News Agency that the soldiers were heading home on their leave when an explosive device detonated their vehicle in al-Sakkar area, killing them immediately.

A civilian died in the attack, according to the source, and several others were injured.

The attack comes less than 24 hours from a similar attack against a force from the Iraqi army in Rawa district, al-Anbar. The force was in charge of the protecting a group of Kawaiti hunters when an explosive device blasted their vehicle, killing and injuring scores of troops on duty.

Iraq declared victory against ISIS in the country in December 2017, while ISIS lost its last territory across the border in Syria, where many Iraqi ISIS fighters fled after being pushed out of the country, in early 2019.

The last two cities to be retaken by Iraqi security forces from ISIS were Qaim and Rawa in Iraq's western al-Anbar region along the border with Syria.

[PJMedia] A nineteen-year-old in Aurora, Colo. faces charges of first-degree arson, as well as second-degree assault and obstructing a peace officer or firefighter, after he set a fire in his house. The circumstances are an indication of the new era in America that years of Leftist policies have brought us.

The young man’s name is Muhammed Ibraheem Afia. On Sunday morning, he seized his sister’s dolls and set them on top of a lit stove. Then, according to KDVR, he "sprayed lighter fluid around the house and lit 16 candles in another room because ’God told him to.’"

Afia was more specific than the KDVR report about which God he had in mind (the KDVR report also gives his name as "Afie," but the police report has "Afia"). The report indicates that what caused the entire incident was Afia’s anger over his sister’s "idols." According to that report, "The idols were baby dolls in his sister’s room. He placed two of the baby dolls on a lit stove to burn them. He sprayed lighter fluid inside the residence, but did not directly light the lighter fluid on fire. He lit approximately 16 candles in an unoccupied, unsupervised room."

One dies, Others Injured As Pirates Attack Fishing Community In Bayelsa

A fisherman has been reported dead while scores of others were injured in Brass Island of Bayelsa State, following a pirate attack on the sea on Monday.

The victims, who are said to be of Ilaje ethnic nationality from Ondo State and residing on the island, had set out to fish on the high sea.

Confirming the attack, SP Asinim Butswat, spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, on Tuesday, said a yet-to-be-identified fisherman died when suspected pirates attacked the fisherfolk, stealing their engine boats.

"Some fishermen fishing on the high sea were attacked by sea pirates and they stole their engines, and in the process, one person was confirmed dead," he said.

One of the victims who survived the attack, Nuru Oriade, said the attackers came in about speed boats. The deceased person was Oriade's brother.

He said, "We were fishing, dropping our nets this morning when suddenly we saw about five to six speed boats as they drew close to us and opened fire.

"They set ablaze some of the boats and took away the engines.

"They killed my brother who went along with me to fish this morning. I survived because I pretended to be dead."

ISIS member killed in Russian air raid in Deir Ez Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – An ISIS member was killed yesterday in a Russian air raid on an area run by the Iranian-backed factions in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.

The Russian aircraft targeted an ISIS member who hid near a primitive refinery in the town of Dhablan, east of Deir ez-Zor, a military source of the Syrian government forces said.

The source, who preferred not to be named, added that the ISIS member did not have any documents or identity papers, and he was riding a bicycle.

The Syrian government forces and the Iranian-backed factions started launching a military operation in Syria’s desert to pursue ISIS sleeper cells after the latter increased their attacks that led to significant losses among the government and Iranian forces.

UN warns of ISIS re-surge

Shafaq News / The United Nations warned of ISIS's resurge following the Ghwaryan prison attack in al-Hasaka, Syria.

In a report, the Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism and head of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), Vladimir Voronkov, said, "the threat posed by Da’esh and its affiliates continued to increase during the second half of 2021."

"Da’esh’s recent activity in Africa is another likely topic of discussion", pointing to, "the emergence of a regional terrorism threat in Central and Eastern Africa, which is characterised by the proliferation of funds, intensified recruitment efforts, and terrorist tactics linked to Da’esh affiliates in Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)."

"The Secretary-General’s report indicates that Da’esh’s leadership continues to control substantial financial resources, with member states estimating that it has access to between $25 and $50 million in funds", he noted.

The Secretary-General’s report describes “online terrorist radicalisation and recruitment” as one of the foremost concerns relating to Da’esh in non-conflict zones and notes that the group and its affiliates have continued attempting to exploit socioeconomic hardship, grievances, and political tensions.

BSF foils narcotic, weapon smuggling bid by Pakistan drone
[OneIndia] The Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday claimed to have foiled a narcotics and weapon smuggling bid by a drone along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab, PTI reported.

A senior official of the force said troops fired at the drone after they heard a "buzzing sound of a suspected flying object coming from the Pakistani side to the Indian side" around 1 am in the Panjgrain area of Gurdaspur sector.

During a search in the area of Ghaggar and Singhoke villages, two packets of yellow colour with suspected contraband have been recovered so far," the senior officer said.

It is suspected that the drone dropped the packets. They were found lying around 20 metres apart on a farm about 2.7 km from the border fence, he added.

A pistol was also seen wrapped in one of the packets.

border region on Wednesday and threw a Molotov cocktail at an empty Israeli truck that was parked there, setting it on fire, before running back, according to Paleostinian media reports and the Israeli military.

There were no reports of Israeli injuries in the incident.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the suspects approached the border and two of them cut through an old fence to enter into a buffer zone that is controlled by Israel but is still on the Gaza side of the barrier.

Inside the buffer zone, the two suspects went up to an empty truck that was being used for maintenance at the border and set it on fire, the military said. The truck was not an IDF vehicle but belonged to a civilian contractor who was working for the military.

After throwing the Molotov cocktail at the truck, the trio ran back into the Gaza Strip, the military said, noting that the three never crossed the recently completed border barrier.

Video footage of the arson attack that was shared on social media showed thick black smoke pouring out of the vehicle, which was apparently heavily damaged by the fire.

The irregular border incident came amid a relative lull in violence between Israel and Paleostinian terror groups in the Strip.

Iran unveils new missile said to put Israel, US regional bases within range
Real or the usual Persian vapourware?
[IsraelTimes] Manufactured entirely domestically, solid fuel-powered ’Khaibar-Shekan’ reportedly able to reach 1,450 kilometers with great accuracy.

Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites....
unveiled a new missile on Wednesday with a reported range that would allow it to reach both US bases in the region as well as targets inside its archfoe Israel.

State TV reported that the missile uses solid fuel and has a range of 1,450 kilometers (900 miles).

It is called the Khaibar-buster, a reference to a Jewish castle overrun by Moslem warriors in the early days of Islam.

The report said the missile has high accuracy, is manufactured completely domestically, and can defeat missile shield systems. The information has not been independently verified.

Israel’s closest point to Iran is some 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) away.

The report comes as negotiations continue in Vienna to revive Tehran’s tattered nuclear deal with world powers. Iran, which has long said it does not seek nuclear weapons, insists its missile program is only a deterrent.

Iran has missiles that can travel up to 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles).

Earlier in January Iran tested an engine for a solid-fuel rocket designed to launch satellites. Satellite carriers usually use liquid fuel but solid-fuel rockets can be adapted for mobile launchers that can be driven anywhere on a major road or rail system. Pure solid-fuel rockets are mostly associated with ballistic missiles systems.

Con Edison bills surge in January, prompting outcry from New Yorkers
[FOX] Energy bills for a swath of New Yorkers surged in January, prompting an outcry from customers who say their bills have doubled in the latest wrinkle to red-hot inflation.

Consolidated Edison Inc., commonly known as Con Edison or ConEd, operates one of the "world’s largest energy delivery systems" providing energy for roughly 10 million people who live in New York City and Westchester County.

The price increases last month were due to an uptick in the supply cost of the energy commodity, not the cost for ConEd's services, otherwise known as "transmission and distribution charges," ConEd spokesman Allan Drury told FOX Business.

"Natural gas is a driver of electricity costs as it is used by generation plants to create electricity. Con Edison does not make a profit on the commodity," Drury said in a statement to FOX Business. "We buy the energy on the wholesale market and provide it to customers at the same price we paid."

NYMEX natural gas futures have jumped over 49% from 12 months ago.

The company has roughly 3.5 million electric customers and 1.1 million natural gas customers.

Five ISIS escapees from Syria’s Hasakah prison arrested

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, the security forces arrested five Islamic State (ISIS) inmates who escaped from the al-Sina’a prison in Guweiran neighborhood in Hasakah governorate, northeastern Syria.

A security source told North Press that one of Guweiran residents informed that a group of suspects were present in a house in the neighborhood.

Anti-terror forces, the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish), and Community Protection Units (a civilian force) headed to the scene and encircled the house.

The house is near al-Aghawat Mosque on the outskirts of Guweiran.

Four of ISIS escapees are Iraqi nationals and the fifth one is a Syrian citizen, the source said.

“The ISIS escapees had suicide vests, machine guns, and bags with ISIS flags. The inmates surrendered without resistance,” the source said.

On late Tuesday, the Asayish arrested two ISIS sleeper cells near Abyad road southwest of Hasakah.

SDF arrest ISIS members during security operation in Deir ez-Zor
\\QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with the support of the US-led Global Coalition managed last night to capture Islamic State Organization (ISIS) members during a joint security operation in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.

“The InSF HAT and SDF conducted a clearance operation in Busayrah to capture DA’ESH members with known ties to Iranian weapons smuggling networks,” a security source of the Global Coalition told North Press.

Clashes erupted between the two parties and lead to the arrest of ten ISIS members.

The ISIS members were hiding in and among civilians’ houses and refused to surrender, according to the source.

During the clashes a child and a local sheikh were killed so that the military operation was halted, the source noted.

IDF reveals its artificial intelligence war data ‘factory'
[Jpost] The IDF revealed its artificial-intelligence (AI) war data “factory” and strategy on Tuesday as part of Tel Aviv University’s Blavatnik Virtual AI Week.

Although the military has been using AI for some time, including during the May 2021 Gaza war, a new strategy for AI was approved by IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kohavi a few weeks ago, said Brig.-Gen. Aviad Dagan, director of the IDF’s Digital Transformation Administration.

A major recent advancement by the IDF has been digital networking in the cloud between all forces, including headquarters, frontline command centers and troops in the field, but the military is starting a new digital advancement beyond the cloud, he said.

There still will be a cloud network of interactions between headquarters and frontline units, but the military will now improve with “edge-data architecture that will enable an edge local course for speed and cloud course for completeness,” Dagan said.

This essentially means the military will be building mini-clouds, or networks, for each of its arms and sometimes smaller subdivisions so they can process and receive data even faster than in the current network, he said.

For example, a wide variety of data points could put together sensory detection of an enemy, evaluate who the enemy was, check the various IDF options within range to respond, analyze how much fuel different drones or other units have remaining and then quickly dispatch the most ideal targeting order, Dagan said.

The new AI capabilities could be of massive importance in any potential future war with Hezbollah in Lebanon, where the IDF has already developed a list of thousands of targets, he said.

DHS warns against mistrust of US government in latest terror bulletin
Playing politics under cover of protecting the nation from really bad guys like you and me, dear Reader.
[NYPost] The Department of Homeland Security’s latest terrorism threat bulletin includes a warning against “the proliferation of false or misleading narratives, which sow discord or undermine public trust in U.S. government institutions.”

The bulletin, issued Monday and in effect until at least June 7, blamed an “online environment filled with false or misleading narratives and conspiracy theories, and other forms of mis-, dis- and mal-information introduced and/or amplified by foreign and domestic threat actors.

“These threat actors seek to exacerbate societal friction to sow discord and undermine public trust in government institutions to encourage unrest, which could potentially inspire acts of violence,” DHS went on. “Mass casualty attacks and other acts of targeted violence conducted by lone offenders and small groups acting in furtherance of ideological beliefs and/or personal grievances pose an ongoing threat to the nation.”

Further along in the bulletin, DHS topped its list of “[k]ey factors contributing to the current heightened threat environment” with the message: “[T]here is widespread online proliferation of false or misleading narratives regarding unsubstantiated widespread election fraud and COVID-19. Grievances associated with these themes inspired violent extremist attacks during 2021.”

The bulletin did not give specific examples of such attacks.

“The months preceding the upcoming 2022 midterm elections could provide additional opportunities for these extremists and other individuals to call for violence directed at democratic institutions, political candidates, party offices, election events, and election workers,” DHS added.

The document also warned that “COVID-19 mitigation measures — particularly COVID-19 vaccine and mask mandates — have been used by domestic violent extremists to justify violence since 2020 and could continue to inspire these extremists to target government, healthcare, and academic institutions that they associate with those measures.”

Again, it did not give specific examples.

NIA nabs Al-Qaeda terrorist who planned blast in poll bound UP
[OneIndia] The National Investigation Agency has arrested an al-Qaeda operative in connection with a conspiracy case to conduct kabooms in poll bound Uttar Pradesh.

The operative, Towheed Ahmad Shah is a resident of Badgam in Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
. The case was originally registered by the Uttar Pradesh ATS against Shah who had entered into a conspiracy for recruiting members of the al-Qaeda affiliate AGH (Ansaar Gajwatul Hind) to commit acts of terror in Lucknow.

Earlier the NIA had arrested 5 persons in connection with the case and a chargesheet had also been filed. The probe revealed that Towheed was the criminal mastermind of the conspiracy to recruit the operatives and to commit acts of terror. He also oversaw the procurement of arms and ammunition apart from kabooms to be used in the blasts in Uttar Pradesh.

A week ago, a band of bucolic hindoo toughies were out bullying moslem 'students' in the UP [that's a state]. An altercation ensued over the taste of chicken dumplings or something. And two kashmiri 'students' were thrashed. There was a hue and cry about the toxic masculinity in the news too.

Anyway, when the cops were processing them all, they found the two kashmiri 'students' were Al-Qaeda recruits, part of a cell for carrying out attacks. Their interrogation, which yours truly was privy to, got us prosecutable evidence on Towheed Shah. The village toughies, the hindu equivalent of your 'rednecks', are now local heroes. And quite understandably, they are now going about beating up people who 'fit the profile' of a no-gooder jihadi and drinking lot's of beer whilst singing patriotic songs. 😀

Eat your heart out, Proud Boys.

Northern Villages Winning War Against Terrorists By Targeting, Crushing Their Informants

A former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has said some communities in Niger and Kaduna states have been defending their territories against terrorists.

According to the former senator, the communities have been achieving success by targeting and killing those identified as informants for the terrorists.

Sani, who took to his Twitter handle on Tuesday, also took a swipe at the Nigerian army, which had claimed that the leader of a notorious gang of bandits, Bello Turji, was on the run following military onslaughts.

The former lawmaker said there are reports that the bandit kingpin, Turji, who was reportedly begging for peace, have been massacring people in the North.

He wrote, "Some villages in Niger and Kaduna states have organised themselves to defend their ancestral lands against terrorists, and they are achieving success with the help of the military; I asked one of them the secret, and he replied 'identifying and crushing the terrorists' informants.'"

"They said North West terror leader, Turji was bombarded, Cornered and was even begging for peace…and then boom only to hear he is still massacring," he said in an earlier post on Tuesday.

Security forces kill terrorist during exchange of fire in North Waziristan: ISPR
[Dawn] Security forces killed a terrorist during an exchange of fire in the Shewa area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's (KP) North Wazoo district on the night between February 8 and February 9, the military's media affairs wing said on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the killed terrorist was identified as Irfan alias Abu Darda and weapons and ammunition were found in his possession.

Irfan was involved in terrorist activities against security forces, murders and kidnappings for ransom, the ISPR said, adding that local residents of the area "appreciated the operation and expressed their full support for eliminating the menace of terrorism from the area".

Recently, there has been a rise in terrorist attacks on security forces and earlier today Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa expressed the resolve not to let desperate revival attempts by faceless myrmidons succeed.

According to an earlier statement by the ISPR, he was presiding over 247th Corps Commanders’ Conference at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, where a comprehensive briefing on the security situation in the country, particularly the recent terror attacks in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, was given.

Gen Bajwa expressed satisfaction over the operational preparedness of the army’s formations and safeguards in place for the defence of the country, the statement said, adding that the army's top brass paid tribute to the deaders who sacrificed their lives for the defence of the country while "valiantly repulsing recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan & inflicting heavy losses on them".

"We have come a long way in our fight against terrorism. Armed forces, with the support of the nation, have conducted successful operations against faceless myrmidons of all hues and colours," the army chief told the participants.

"We will eliminate all remnants of terrorists, their abettors & accomplices whatever is the cost," the COAS emphasised.

Afghanistan
How the Taliban's return has changed Afghan women's lives
All the early promises the Taliban have not kept — as predicted.
[Dawn] After seizing control of Afghanistan in August 2021 the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
promised a softer version of the harsh rule that characterised their first stint in power, when women were stripped of most of their rights.

This time around the movement has largely refrained from issuing rigid national edicts, but authorities at a provincial level have introduced rules and guidelines dictating how women should live.

Here are some areas of women's lives impacted by the Taliban's return:

EMPLOYMENT
The Taliban say they allow women to work as long as they are segregated from men.

In practice, however, women are effectively barred from employment — particularly for the government — apart from in specialised sectors such as health care and education.

Even women working in the private sector complain of being harassed going to and from their offices, while Taliban intelligence operatives frequently visit commercial enterprises to make sure strict segregation is enforced.

In some places, however, small women-only cooperatives have been able to continue — such as a jasmine processing facility in the ancient western city of Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
, long considered liberal by Afghan standards.

Still, tens of thousands of Afghan women have been made jobless by the Taliban's return, overturning two decades of progress in diversifying all aspects of their employment — from the police to courts.

EDUCATION
The Taliban say all girls are entitled to an education, but the majority of secondary schools at least — for those aged from 13 to 18 — have not reopened since August.

Officials now say education for all will resume by the end of March, but an exodus of teachers and a ban on men leading classes for girls means it will be difficult for them to meet that target.

Most private universities have resumed, also while suffering a teacher shortage. But classes must be segregated by sex and there can be no mingling of men and women between lessons.

Some government universities resumed under similar constraints last week, but there was only a trickle of attendance by women at most facilities.

PERSONAL FREEDOMS
During their first stint in power, the Taliban made it compulsory for women to wear an all-covering burqa in public, and agents of the feared Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice would lash anyone caught without.

The ministry put up posters across Kabul last month "suggesting" women should at least wear the less restrictive hijab or headscarf — but the message was accompanied by pictures of the burqa.

An order was also issued saying women could not travel between cities and towns unless accompanied by a male relative, and taxi drivers were told not to pick up female passengers unless they wore head coverings.

Beauty parlours and fashion boutiques were booming before the Taliban's return, but they have largely disappeared.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, the radioactive tadpoles grown into frogs. Really big frogs, in fact...
shop mannequins have been beheaded in Herat and billboards featuring the human form taken down because they are deemed un-Islamic.

SPORT AND CULTURE
Television channels have been ordered to stop showing dramas and soap operas featuring women actors, while female journalists must wear a hijab in front of cameras.

A senior Taliban official has said it is "unnecessary" for women to play sport, but they have been wary of formalising that philosophy because funding from the organizations that govern world sport — including football and cricket — depends on allowing all sexes to play.

Many of the country's leading singers, musicians, artists and photographers have fled since the Taliban's return, while those who couldn't escape have gone into hiding or are keeping a very low profile.

Germany: Another IS wife charged with war crimes
[DW] The German national is believed to have married several members of the "Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
" terrorist organization. One of her alleged husbands had kept a Yazidi woman as a slave.

German authorities have pressed war crimes charges against a suspected member of the so-called "Islamic State" (IS), the federal prosecutor general in Karlsruhe announced Wednesday.

WHAT DO WE KNOW SO FAR?
The German national, Jalda A.,
...apparently appearing here for the first time...
is believed to have married several members of IS, according to a statement from the prosecutor's office. She was detained in October upon her arrival in Frankfurt airport, as a warrant had been issued for her arrest by Hamburg's higher regional court.

She first traveled to Syria via The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
in 2014, with the intention of joining the terrorist group. She then married an IS member shortly afterward and lived in the Syrian cities of Tal Abyad and Raqqa, according to prosecutors.

During this time, she allegedly supported her husband's activities in the holy warrior group. Prosecutors say she watched as IS engaged in public punishments and brutality, and even raised her son in the IS ideology.

In April 2015, her first husband died in combat. Therefore, she became a "second wife" of another IS fighter.

From September to October, she had married for a third time and settled down in city of Mayadin, which lies in eastern Syria.

Suspect engaged in abuse of enslaved Yazidi woman

Her third IS husband is suspected of having kept a Yazidi woman as a slave. IS views the Yazidi religion as inferior, with the group having committed a mass genocide of Yazidi people in Iraq in the mid-2010s.

Jalda A. is believed to have willingly participated in the abuse of the Yazidi woman, who was often raped by her IS husband.

"She herself abused the woman almost daily and especially following the rapes," the statement from the prosecutor general said. "For example, she regularly punched and kicked the woman, yanked her hair or hit her head against the wall."

Jalda A. attempted to leave Syria at the end of 2017, but was arrested. She then spent time in a Kurdish-run camp until she returned to Germany.

Germany frequently prosecutes those who commit serious crimes abroad under the legal principle of universal jurisdiction. In October of last year, a German court sentenced an IS bride to 10 years in prison for having let a Yazidi slave girl die from dehydration.

Al-Shabaab shelling kills four in Somalia's Barawe on election day
[Garowe] The Somalia-based al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
snuffies on Wednesday killed four civilians and maimed 8 others in the ancient town of Barawe in the Southern part of the country, on a day when the Southwest state was holding parliamentary elections for seven seats.

Somalia is under pressure to conclude elections by February 25 before embarking on the much anticipated presidential polls. Already, the US has started slapping visa restrictions on individuals believed to be saboteurs of elections.

The al-Shabaab media affiliates reported the attack but did not give further details thus it's not clear who they targeted in this particular raid. But the fact that it happens at the time the region is holding elections for 13 parliamentary seats speaks volumes.

Witnesses said the snuffies fired five rounds of mortars to the town with tow hitting residential houses. The mortars landed in Sakhawadin and Dayah neighborhoods in Barawe town, leading to four deaths and multiple injuries.

The network was down the town earlier but it’s back to normal service now, another witness said. The snuffies thrive on communication failure when attacking certain towns in the country to evade hawk-eyed Somali National Army [SNA] and AU forces.

Today, only seven Parliamentary elections took place while the contest for the remaining six will be held on Thursday according to authorities. All states are rushing to beat the deadline and analysts say there has been tremendous progress in recent weeks.

The attack also comes a day after opposition bigwigs questioned the motive of dispatching Somali National Army Infantry commander General Tahlil Bihi, who is a close ally of outgoing President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmaajo. Bihi is accused of infiltrating the electoral process.

The contents (explosive material) of the bomb have never been revealed by the FBI, nor has any associated DNA evidence. Similarly, only a few minutes of the video of the suspected bomb planter has been released by the most advanced bomb analysis center in the world.

With Harris destined at any moment to assume the Presidency, numerous Harris senior staff members have submitted their resignations. Strange, could there be something known to them, but not us? Is it likely that Harris will herself soon be handing in her resignation? A resignation based on her or her staff's activities in the vicinity of the DNC on or about 6 January ?

With Biden slipping rapidly, is this, or was this the plan to eliminate Harris as the heir apparent to the Oval Office ?

Hat tip to Carlson and his sleuths. This could be the largest stone he has yet flipped over.

#5  A resignation based on her or her staff's activities in the vicinity of the DNC on or about 6 January ?

We ain't that lucky.

Not to mention that no - repeat, NO - Democratic politician is going to make the call to push her out, and she knows it. The only way she's leaving the Executive Branch is at the end of a term.

#7  The amount of time Tucker spent on the Cackle-Jackal's location last night, the explicit ways he made it clear that the SS detail was meant to find the device (functional but unarmed, as if on safe) just as the Capitol incursions began, and the detailed descriptions of the failed FBI analysis and forensics can only have one meaning. It was a part of a coordinated effort with government involvement. Someone has fed Tucker more and his focus for over 5 minute of broadcast time was meant to drive a lot of questions and push to investigate by the viewership. This seems a vital component on revealing the true origins of the Capitol incursion and I suspect the role of agent provocateurs by design of those in the deep state with this kind of revolutionary tradecraft?

#9  I'ma going with #7. The Tucker knows more than he put out last night. He's got some excellent sources, and some very brave ones too. My guess (and only a guess), he's had some second party 'non-attributable' Secret Service help on this one. Again, just a guess.

Africa Horn
Somalia: Four killed, seven injured in Bossaso explosion
[Garowe] At least four people were killed and seven others injured in a kaboom at a restaurant in northeast Somalia’s Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
commercial city of Bossaso on Wednesday afternoon.

A Puntland police officer told state-run Radio Mogadishu that the bomber struck in front of a restaurant in Bosasso
...Puntland's major (maybe only) port, population about 250,000, most of them shady characters who hang around waterfront dives and carry knives and brass knuckles...
’s Al Macruuf shopping center.

The motive of the latest attack in Puntland State has not been established.
Fun, profit, and instilling terror in the hearts of the insufficiently pious?
Locals said security forces have launched a major manhunt for the perpetrators of the latest explosion in Bossaso town which has been beset by a series of landmine and suicide kabooms including liquidations in the recent past.

No group has grabbed credit for the blast but al-Qaeda allied terror group, al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...

and the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
s (ISIS) have staged such attacks in the past in Bossaso and elsewhere in Puntland State.

The so-called ISIS wing in Somalia has its main base in the Puntland state and has occasionally clashed with Puntland forces and al-Shabaab.
