Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot Gets Sued, Sez She Has 'The Biggest D*ck In Chicago'
Such a charming 'lady', isn't she?
[Zero Hedge] - Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has been accused in a new lawsuit of throwing a temper tantrum over a plan to display a Christopher Columbus statue in the city's annual Columbus parade last fall - threatening to pull the permit for the entire parade and then berating city officials in a 'hastily called Zoom meeting.'

In a lawsuit against Lightfoot and the city, Former Chicago Park District deputy general counsel George Smyrniotis says he was tasked with hammering out a deal with lawyers for an Italian American group in order to try and settle a lawsuit over Lightfoot's removal of Columbus statues from the city. According to Timothy King, then the district’s top lawyer, and then-superintendent Michael Kelly, the lawsuit needed to disappear "as soon as possible."

Smyrniotis says that after hammering out the deal to display the Columbus statue in the annual parade (last, and covered up until the very end), Lightfoot flipped out.

During the contentious Zoom call with Park District Officials, Lighfoot "proceeded to berate and defame" the lawyers for the city - reportedly asking "Where did you go to law school? Did you even go to law school? Do you even have a law license?"

She then told them that they had to submit their pleadings to a city lawyer for approval, and were told "not to do a fucking thing with that statue without my approval," according to the Chicago Tribune.

"Get that fucking statue back before noon tomorrow or I am going to have you fired," Lightfoot said, per the complaint.

Smyrniotis then says Lightfoot made obscene comments to he and King - calling them "dicks," and asking "What the fuck were you thinking?"

"You make some kind of secret agreement with Italians. ... You are out there stroking your dick over the Columbus statue, I am trying to keep Chicago police officers from being shot and you are trying to get them shot," she allegedly said, adding "My dick is bigger than yours and the Italians, I have the biggest dick in Chicago."

'It's going to get worse': If Russia resorts to siege tactics, the Ukraine war could take a horrible turn
[Yahoo News via the KOS] "If Russia resorts to siege tactics, the Ukraine war could take a horrible turn"

WASHINGTON — Russian President Vladimir Putin's military forces seem poised to adopt siege tactics that could result in enormous civilian deaths and infrastructure damage after their initial assault has failed to topple the Ukrainian government, officials and experts say.

Putin and his military commanders have been caught off guard by the ferocious resistance of Ukrainian troops and ordinary citizens. His main assault force for the capital of Kyiv remains bogged down about 15 miles from the city, harassed by Ukrainian attacks and hobbled by a lack of fuel for combat vehicles and food for the Russian soldiers, a senior Defense Department official said Wednesday, speaking on condition of anonymity to describe intelligence findings.

Putin went to war with a "deeply flawed" plan for a swift operation to decapitate the Ukrainian government and install a puppet regime, said Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., a member of the Armed Services Committee. The strategy rested on the assumption that Ukrainian soldiers and citizens would acquiesce without a fight.

"He has gravely miscalculated the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people," said Blumenthal, who visited Ukraine shortly before the Russian invasion and has been briefed on the war by the Pentagon. "These people were never going to welcome Putin as a liberator, nor would they accept Russian rule modeled on the Soviet example. They’ve gotten used to freedom, and they love it.""

China Says Ukraine Foreign Minister Sought Help to Negotiate Cease-Fire With Russia
By Liyan Qi

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba urged his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi to help mediate a cease-fire with Russia during a phone call Tuesday, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s website.

Mr. Wang said China supported a negotiated solution to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and “supports all constructive international efforts that are conducive to a political solution,” according to the ministry.

During the phone call, Mr. Wang reiterated Beijing’s stance in respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries.

Mr. Wang expressed dismay at the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, saying China is “extremely concerned about harm to civilians,” according to the statement.

Beijing signed a statement of solidarity with Russian President Vladimir Putin early last month, but has also tried to keep some distance from Moscow after it launched its assault on Ukraine, while accusing the U.S. of inflaming tensions. Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Friday said he supported negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

As opposed to creating chaos, war and devastation in every volatile situation it touches.

#18  China with clueless Biden's help will drag out the finalization of the cease fire long enough for Russia to capture Mariupol and draw the noise even more tightly around Kiev and Kharkov.

Then we're back to Minsk II. Only now, instead of Ukraine having an intact country and an American protector, they've lost all the southern and eastern territories, their dam that prevented water for Crimea has been destroyed, and half their country is wrecked. And thousands of their people have been killed.

With China as the new global leader, the only mature, adult rational great power left.

I seriously cannot believe America is trying for this outcome. Americans have been played for fools. Yet again.

Pfizer's COVID-19 Vaccine Goes Into Liver Cells and Is Converted to DNA: Study
[EpochTimes] The messenger RNA (mRNA) from Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine is able to enter human liver cells and is converted into DNA, according to Swedish researchers at Lund University.

The researchers found that when the mRNA vaccine enters the human liver cells, it triggers the cell’s DNA, which is inside the nucleus, to increase the production of the LINE-1 gene expression to make mRNA.

The mRNA then leaves the nucleus and enters the cell’s cytoplasm, where it translates into LINE-1 protein. A segment of the protein called the open reading frame-1, or ORF-1, then goes back into the nucleus, where it attaches to the vaccine’s mRNA and reverse transcribes into spike DNA.

Reverse transcription is when DNA is made from RNA, whereas the normal transcription process involves a portion of the DNA serving as a template to make an mRNA molecule inside the nucleus.

"In this study we present evidence that COVID-19 mRNA vaccine BNT162b2 is able to enter the human liver cell line Huh7 in vitro," the researchers wrote in the study, published in Current Issues of Molecular Biology. "BNT162b2 mRNA is reverse transcribed intracellularly into DNA as fast as 6 [hours] after BNT162b2 exposure."

BNT162b2 is another name for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine that is marketed under the brand name Comirnaty.

The whole process occurred rapidly within six hours. The vaccine’s mRNA converting into DNA and being found inside the cell’s nucleus is something that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said would not happen.

#4  In vitro. A test tube. Does it work in vivo, in actual functioning organ tissue? Not likely, the body does have regulatory systems that inhibit this sort of thing, like enzymes and such. Still, it bears further research, that’s certain. Good reason to be cautious and do a risk assessment, especially since the mutation of COVID19 has produced a far less pathogenic version.

Iraq
US resumes Iraqi refugee program
[Iraq] The United States has resumed reviewing cases of Iraqis that have served alongside US service members, over a year after the program was put on hold, the US Department of State said on Tuesday.

"After an extensive review, we have resumed case processing for a select number of Iraqi P-2 cases that had been previously suspended during our review of the program," read a statement from the State Department Spokesperson Ned Price.

The statement added that during the review, they had "identified and resolved the issues that led to our suspension of the program in January of 2021" and that the US is "committed to ensuring that only bona fide and qualified Iraqis who supported U.S. efforts in Iraq are considered for this important humanitarian program."

The direct access program was authorized by the Congress during the US occupation of Iraq in an aim to fasten the process of resettling Iraqis that have faced danger by working with the US.

Over 40,000 applications covering over 104,000 people were frozen when the program was put on hold in January 2021, Rooters reported, adding that US Sherlocks at the time suspected some 4,000 false applications being submitted.

Government Corruption
Alabama Member of the Oath Keepers Pleads Guilty to Seditious Conspiracy
[EpochTimes] Joshua A. James, one of the Oath Keepers charged with trying to prevent the counting of Electoral College votes at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to seditious conspiracy and obstruction of an official government proceeding, and will face 7.25 to 9 years in prison when he is sentenced this summer.

As part of a plea agreement, James, 34, of Arab, Alabama, will cooperate with Sherlocks and could sit for questioning before a grand jury on the role the Oath Keepers played at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The guilty pleas are an important win for federal prosecutors, who first introduced sedition-related charges into the investigation after the one-year anniversary of Jan. 6. As part of his pleas, James admitted that he was part of a seditious conspiracy that had the goal of disrupting the certification by Congress of the Electoral College votes.

Somalia's Govt troops repulse Al-Shabaab attack in military base
[Garowe] The Somali National Army [SNA] on Tuesday repulsed an al-Shabaab
...... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa...
attack in a military base within central Somalia, marking another significant step in the fight against the bully boyz who control large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia.

Al-Shabaab has been battling to topple the fragile UN-backed Somalia government, but their efforts are yet to succeed due to strong military resistance from both the Somalia National Army and the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Mission Forces [AMISOM].

Reports indicate that at least three bully boyz were killed following the al-Shabaab attack on a military camp west of Huddur town early on Tuesday. Government officials have also confirmed the incident which comes amid ongoing elections.

One source put the number of bully boyz killed at seven. Troops said the attack was repulsed; 3 rifles were also recovered, adding that the search for those who escaped was still active within the vicinity of the town.

The attack at the base comes barely a week after the elite Danab Special Forces and the US Africa Command launched an Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
in central Somalia, killing at least 60 al-Shabaab hard boys. This was the first US airstrike in as many months.

US Africa Command halted airstrikes in Somalia following the unprecedented withdrawal of troops in 2021upon instructions by former President Donald Trump

But since then, there have been reports of plans to reinstate the military by the administration of President Joe The Big Guy Biden

. Currently, most US elite troops are stationed in Kenya where they assist those in Somalia whenever they want to conduct operations against al-Shabaab.

faceless myrmidons are capable of hitting aircraft flying at low altitudes in the Northeastern part of the East Africa nation, particularly along the troubled Kenya-Somalia border.

Federal Aviation Authority [FAA[ said al-Shabaab is in possession of weapons capable of hitting aircraft flying at altitudes of up to 25,000 ft, thus endangering the lives of millions of people using the airspace.

"Such weapons could target aircraft at low altitudes, including during the arrival and departure phases of flight, and/or target airports and aircraft on the ground, especially at airfields located east of 40 degrees east longitude," read a statement in part.

In most cases, flights from the United Arab Emirates [UAE], China, India, and many other East African countries use the airspace in northwestern. al-Shabaab has a huge presence in Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir counties.

Philippine Military Identifies IS Extremist Group’s New Regional Leader
Follow up to this story from yesterdsy.
[BenarNews] The Filipino military said Wednesday that it had identified the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
turban group’s new emir for Southeast Asia as the leader of a local bully boy faction being targeted in an offensive underway in the southern Philippines.

Abu Zacharia (also known as Jer Mimbantas and Faharudin Hadji Satar) is believed to have survived the military operation in Lanao del Sur province that was launched on Tuesday and involved air strikes and ground troops.

"We have information that Abu Zacaria was designated as (IS) emir for Southeast Asia," Brig. Gen. Jose Maria Cuerpo II told news hounds on Wednesday. Cuerpo is the commanding officer of 103rd Infantry Brigade, which led the assault.

The offensive overran Zacharia’s base in a hinterland village in Maguing town, the military said. It announced that another suspected bully boy had died, bringing the corpse count to three Death Eaters and one soldier.

Lanao del Sur is where hundreds of pro-IS Death Eaters laid siege to Marawi, the historic provincial capital, for five months in 2017.

On Tuesday, the military launched pre-dawn Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s while sending ground troops to attack positions of Zacharia and his men. The military has been pursuing Zacharia’s group since January, Cuerpo said, adding that a recent intelligence report warned that his group might be preparing for a new round of hostilities.

"We have evidence, that is why we launched the offensive," Cuerpo said.

Abu Zacharia succeeded Owaida Marohombsar (also known as Abu Dar), the leader of the Daulah Islamiyah-Maute Group who was killed in Lanao del Norte, a neighboring province, sometime in March 2019. Daulah Islamiyah means Islamic State in the local language.

Yuri Butusov on Russian operations in Kharkov
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Yuri Butusov is editor of the Ukrainian language news outlet Tsnesor.net

[Facebook] Defense of Kharkiv. What is going on?

Russian media often write as if Russian troops are fighting for Kharkiv, somewhere as if they are breaking through, some special forces are storming something. I was personally on the spot, and found out that Russian propaganda imitates non-existent success.

In fact, Kharkiv is completely controlled by the great forces of the Armed Forces and the National Guard, by the voluntary squads. The base of the defense is the glorious 92nd mechanical brigade and artillery units, they successfully control the entire perimeter of the defense.

Several Russian assault groups tried to break through on February 27, but they were interrupted and captured.

Since then, Russian troops have been avoiding contact fights. That is, there are no attacks, but attempts to disperse the joke and conduct our intelligence are determined and extinguished before the enemy approaches.

The enemy revoked from Ukrainian positions in Kharkiv for 2-3 kilometers - at the distance of Javelinív. Russian positions in the village of Rogan, they can't get close, because they are not left alone, but they beat.. Because any maneuvers get instant strikes of our artillery.

You feel special pride when you see how our warriors work together, how motivated they are, how constantly looking for opportunities to better "tripple" the opponent. Great difference compared to Russian troops, with crowds of non-motivated Russian prisoners.

The threat to Kharkiv is created exclusively terrorist shelling Russian artillery and aviation. Russian aviation strikes without analysis on military and civilian objects, terrorizes civilian population. Many residents are leaving the city, and it's clear.

But Kharkiv's defense does not weaken even from air strikes.

It's hard to put into words the motivation and willingness to fight to the end. The number of volunteers far exceeds the number of seats in the army and the terrorist. New weapons of NATO countries are coming.

Kharkiv now needs better coordination in the leadership of all defense forces and the needs of the PPO system to protect the city from Russian aviation terror. And the Russian army will receive total resistance when trying to storm the city.

Support for Kharkiv citizens of the Ukrainian army is at the highest level. Society is self-sufficient, a large number of people are not going to leave the city, and are fighting. Volunteers are sometimes more than jobs in the military.

Threats of Kharkiv exist, but I'm sure if the Russian army goes on a big storm, it will be an unprecedented defeat.

Kharkiv is Ukraine!

Indonesian Military, Police Pledge to Crack Down on Radical Influencers
[BenarNews] The Indonesian military and police pledged Wednesday to crack down on personnel who attend religious gatherings involving radical preachers, after President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo had warned the institutions to improve discipline in their ranks.

Speaking at the annual leadership meeting of the military and police a day earlier, Jokowi also cited cases of soldiers and police discussing controversial government policies in online messaging groups as an example of poor discipline.

"The president’s directive is for the common good to curb the spread of radicalism," national police front man Dedi Prasetyo told news hounds in Jakarta. "If there’s evidence of violations, the Professional Investigator and Safeguard Division [of the police] will take firm action against members."

The army chief of staff, Gen. Dudung Abdurachman, also told news hounds that the armed forces (TNI) would comply with the president’s order.

"Don’t let us make the wrong choice by inviting a preacher who has been exposed to radicalism," Dudung said. "Don’t let our families be exposed to misguided teachings."

Jokowi on Tuesday emphasized that members of the armed forces must follow orders of their superiors, noting it is necessary to be selective in choosing a preacher to speak at a religious study session to minimize the spread of radical ideas.

"The same goes for the ladies [wives of TNI and police members]. They can’t just hold gatherings with others and invite preachers as they please in the name of democracy," Jokowi said. "Be careful lest you invite radical preachers."

In November, Ahmad Nurwakhid, a director at the National Counter-terrorism Agency (BNPT), said Lions of Islam linked to the outlawed Jemaah Islamiyah (JI)
...Al Qaeda’s branch in Southeast Asia, naturally linked to the other groups in the region...
radical group had tried to infiltrate the Indonesian military, police and government ministries for more than a decade.

One month earlier, police said officers had arrested 876 JI members since the 2002 Bali bombings, which killed 202 people. But they warned that the number of members and sympathizers was estimated to be 10 times as many, with 67 JI-affiliated religious schools suspected to be breeding grounds for bad boys.

JI, which was outlawed in 2008, has not staged a major attack since 2011.

Still, police said they arrested 339 suspected Lions of Islam belonging to JI and other groups in 2021, an increase of 56 percent from the previous year. Officers also killed 18 suspected Lions of Islam last year.

The troops will continue to move in the direction that will help us finally stop the shelling of residential areas of settlements not only here, but also among our neighbors in Luhansk. It takes a couple of days to understand how the situation in Mariupol will develop. Because in any case, there will be a process of negotiations - we convince the enemy to lay down their arms, surrender or leave the city so that the civilian population does not suffer. A humanitarian catastrophe will soon begin there - without light, food. Everything must be done so that people do not suffer, which is why we said that we were opening a humanitarian corridor. #4  Check this out ... now we know why Ol' Man Biden confused IRANIANS and Ukrainians.

Turns out that right now our "negotiators" are begging Russia to send weapons to Iran to induce them to sign the new JCPOA. Dissidents inside the US State Department report that Russia's diplomat is driving the deal terms, telling our diplomats what to do - and they're bending over and complying.

@MPPregent:
While Putin's invasion of Ukraine is on every mind, the Biden team is courting Putin to make a deal with Iran while no one is looking.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkey’s military bombards countryside of north Raqqa

AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, the Turkish forces and the affiliated Syrian armed opposition factions targeted the countryside of Ain Issa, north of Raqqa, northern Syria, with shells and heavy weapons.

“The Turkish forces and the affiliated factions targeted al-Musheirfa and al-Jadida villages, Ain Issa silos, and M4 Highway at 11 am,” a military source of the SDF told North Press.

“Dozens of shells fell down on the eastern and western countryside of Ain Issa, by the Turkish forces,” the source added.

The bombardment resulted in material damage to the citizens’ property, in addition to the spread of a state of panic and horror among the people, according to the source.

From time to time, the Ain Issa town and other regions in north and northeast Syria are shelled by Turkey and its affiliated factions.

On February 25, the Turkish forces and the affiliated factions shelled al-Hoshan village and M4 Highway, west of Ain Issa.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
June 26, 1997: Dear Mr. President, We, the undersigned, believe that the current U.S.led effort to expand NATO, the focus of the recent Helsinki and Paris Summits, is a policy error of historic proportions.
Wow, didn’t know Robert McNamara was a pro-Russia Putinbot. You learn something new every day. Should tell you something that a who’s who of deep state ghouls knew all this was bad, and still nothing changed.

June 26, 1997

Dear Mr. President,

We, the undersigned, believe that the current U.S.led effort to expand NATO, the focus of the recent Helsinki and Paris Summits, is a policy error of historic proportions. We believe that NATO expansion will decrease allied security and unsettle European stability for the following reasons:

In Russia, NATO expansion, which continues to be opposed across the entire political spectrum, will strengthen the nondemocratic opposition, undercut those who favor reform and cooperation with the West, bring the Russians to question the entire post-Cold War settlement, and galvanize resistance in the Duma to the START II and III treaties; In Europe, NATO expansion will draw a new line of division between the "ins" and the "outs," foster instability, and ultimately diminish the sense of security of those countries which are not included;

In NATO, expansion, which the Alliance has indicated is open-ended, will inevitably degrade NATO’s ability to carry out its primary mission and will involve U.S. security guarantees to countries with serious border and national minority problems, and unevenly developed systems of democratic government;

In the U.S., NATO expansion will trigger an extended debate over its indeterminate, but certainly high, cost and will call into question the U.S. commitment to the Alliance, traditionally and rightly regarded as a centerpiece of U.S. foreign policy.

Because of these serious objections, and in the absence of any reason for rapid decision, we strongly urge that the NATO expansion process be suspended while alternative actions are pursued. These include:

—opening the economic and political doors of the European Union to Central and Eastern Europe;—developing an enhanced Partnership for Peace program;

—supporting a cooperative NATO-Russian relationship; and

—continuing the arms reduction and transparency process, particularly with respect to nuclear weapons and materials, the major threat to U.S. security, and with respect to conventional military forces in Europe.

Russia does not now pose a threat to its western neighbors and the nations of Central and Eastern Europe are not in danger. For this reason, and the others cited above, we believe that NATO expansion is neither necessary nor desirable and that this ill-conceived policy can and should be put on hold.

Sincerely,

#1  Yeah, sure they're all Putinbots (before anyone ever heard the name Putin). Meet the bots;

George Kennan, greatest diplomat and moscfanous abskysus if RU foreign policy, in 1998: NATO expansion "would set in motion ... the beginning of a new cold war... the Russians will gradually react quite adversely and it will affect their policies. I think it is a tragic mistake. There was no reason for this whatsoever. No one was threatening anybody else.”

Clinton's Russia expert Strobe Talbott opposed NATO expansion: "Many Russians see Nato as a vestige of the cold war, inherently directed against their country. They point out that they have disbanded the Warsaw Pact, their military alliance, and ask why the west should not do the same.”

Ambassador Jack Matlock opposed BATO expansion.

Prof. Stephen F Cohen opposed it vigorously up to his death. Prof. Robert Legvold and Prof. Robert Jervis of Columbia opposed it. Sen. Bill Bradley traveled across Russia and came back opposed to NATO expansion.

Diplomat and then CIA Director Bill Burns reported in 2008 that "Ukrainian entry into NATO is the brightest of all redlines for the Russian elite (not just Putin)." In his 2008 memo to then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Bill Burns wrote, “In more than two and a half years of conversations with key Russian players, from knuckle-draggers in the dark recesses of the Kremlin to Putin’s sharpest liberal critics, I have yet to find anyone who views Ukraine in NATO as anything other than a direct challenge to Russian interests.”

Which one was the lie? This was written by foreign policy elites 25 years ago and it predicted what just happened. They warned us, and what do you know they were right.

Please point out where the lie is. If you can. Which you can't, and that's why the insults are being used instead of arguments.

ex-Soviet satellites started pounding on the door to be let in.

If this actually happened, we shouldn't have let them in. Admitting them was just going to lead to a war. Which it did. We have to think in terms of "what's good for America" not what's good for foreigners on the other side of the planet who despise us anyway.

#18  Even worse. Biden and his people actually encouraged Ukraine to hope for NATO membership. Deliberately creating false hope caused Zelensky to walk away from the Minsk II agreement he signed.

Now ironically the only alternative to having tens of thousands of his people killed is for Zelensky and the US to restore Minsk II. After having his ass kicked on the battlefield and thousands of innocents slain.

Had Biden - Mr. "Well, sonofabitch! He did what I told him to!" - had the US president forced Zelensky to actually live up to the Minsk II promises of autonomy for Donbas, and told the Russians that we would agree to forswear NATO membership for Ukraine, Biden could have prevented the crisis from ever happening.

???

Since when is NATO a defensive alliance? Where'd you get this data from? Name the last time it united to defend the territory of its member states. It's never happened. Even Afghanistan was the invasion of another country (and they lost the war).

Why don't we ask NATO itself what it does? Good idea, eh?

"NATO is a crisis management organisation that has the capacity to undertake a wide range of military operations and missions."

Go ahead and look that page up and down and tell me where it says anything about being a defensive alliance. It's such an easy argument to destroy when you have facts on your side.

#33  Start learning Chinese

*shrug* I started studying Mandarin in 1997 against probable future need, after Mr. Wife came home with an urgent request from his management to take over the R&D group in Beijing the following Monday. Fortunately, it fell through — we’d been back in the U.S. for less than two months at that point, and that week had moved into the new house and the trailing daughters started their new school, so it was much too soon to move them to a third continent — children need more time. Both later studied Japanese, which gave them a foundation in Chinese kanji against future need. The languages thing has provided us quiet amusement when among foreigners who blithely assume Americans are monolingual. For perspective, the exurban public school district I live in reports forty different native languages among the students, with the top three being Spanish, Vietnamese, and Arabic. Both Russian and the Chinese dialects are in the top ten. But then, in the 2000 national census it was reported that 20% of Americans spoke a language other than English at home, so we’ve been that way for quite some time.

#34  Hey Wife: Better start learning Russian and Farsi. And hop a flight to Wien.

Boychik, you need to research your targets better. Reports about the JCPOA travesty has consistently been on Rantburg’s Page 2: War on Terror Background/Politics since President Barack Hussein Obama first mused aloud about the possibility. ”Biden’s boy in Vienna” has been about to pointlessly sign the thing for weeks — Iran is the hold-up for obvious reasons, the American side of the table.

here's former State Dept analyst Gabriel Noronha

Saw that when it was first tweeted. Nice of them to be concerned, but it would have been nicer still if they’d reared up on their hind legs years ago. Or in early 2021, when President Biden’s people revived the thing. Now their concern accomplishes nothing.

#38  That’s Mrs. Wife, actually. I followed Mr. Wife halfway round the world and back again in the course of his career, acquiring several souvenir daughters along the way.

I’ve been to Vienna. Pretty city, great food, the feel everywhere of having once been the center of an empire and happy to no longer have the responsibility. My German was fine for Germany and Switzerland, and combined with English led easily to Flemish and Dutch, but Austrian German is unintelligible to the uninitiate. Possibly that’s why President Obama thought it was a separate language, poor man.

Russian would be fun — I wanted to take some classes at university when I was younger, assuming that those dreadful Russian novels had to be better in the original language, but there weren’t enough of us. And later Mr. Wife managed his Russian responsibilities out of his company’s offices in Frankfurt and Brussels, so there was no need. But a number of other Rantburgers can converse with you in your native tongue, if that would be easier for you. ;-)

As for Farsi, with their birthrate and their apparent eagerness to challenge Allah’s love by triggering a Samson event from Israel, it seems a waste of effort. If I really need to understand something, I have Iranian friends who can translate.

Diyala ramps up security near the borders with Saladin

Shafaq News/ Iraqi security forces launched a large-scale campaign to construct defensive fortifications to secure Diyala's borders with Saladin, a commander of the Tribal Mobilization in Diyala said on Wednesday, criticizing the lack of security initiatives in the governorate of Saladin.

Tribal Mobilization Commander Mohammad Ibrahim Dhayfan told Shafaq News Agency, "the security authorities deployed 500 troops from the 34 brigade of the ninth division in a 60-kilometer rectangular strip that extends along the borders of Diyala with Saladin between the outskirts of al-Udhaim dam and al-Imamayn road near the village of Um al-Karami."

"The fortifications include constructing concrete and earthen berms and installing surveillance spots to hinder ISIS operatives from sneaking outside the 'loose areas' infested with terrorist groups."

Dhayfan lambasted "the lack of fortifications and security initiatives from Saladin's side despite the expansion of the terrorist groups' threat."

SDF dismantles drug network in Raqqa

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said its special forces dismantled an illegal drug network in Syria’s northern city of Raqqa.

On its official Facebook account, the SDF shared confessions of two persons identified as Mahammad al-Badr and Mustafa al-Badr from Raqqa who were members of the network.

The SDF said the two persons were arrested during a raid conducted on several houses in Raqqa neighborhoods.

The two admitted they were drug dealers and used to get the narcotics from a person based in Aleppo city where the Syrian government forces are in control. The drugs were transferred to Raqqa in packages hidden between food stuff.

On February 22, the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) arrested a group of drug dealers in Tabqa city in the western countryside of Raqqa.

It appears that much of the information in the document was hidden from the public in the past, with a blurb on the first page explaining that "dissemination of this information outside of Pfizer, its Affiliates, its Licensees, or Regulatory Agencies is strictly prohibited."

#3  It's over. The mask and vax mandates are going away. They will try to keep the vaxx mandates on a small subset (healthcare workers) but that will also end in a whimper.

The demand for booster shots will be so poor without a mandate that the pharma outfits will quietly exit the business of making them.

#13  Your government lied to you and took billions (is still taking billions) from a corrupt US corporation that unleashed a failed vaccine on the world. A cure that literally is worse than the disease. And then the US government lied about it. Now the face of the operation, the little Doctor Fauci, has disappeared. The American president didn't even say anything in his speech the other day - the speech that's supposed to recount all his administration's accomplishments. Because this lying and corrupt government has no accomplishments.

Meanwhile three countries comprising over 3 billion people that resisted this failed vaccine pushed on them by the US Government of Pfizer are spared what the American people are realizing, to their horror, was forced upon them. China and Russia and India didn't need Pfizer's money and don't trust Biden or Fauci or any other fools America throws up.

Those three countries are not going to suffer the millions of deaths and who knows how many millions of serious adverse reactions that the Pfizersphere countries' populations are now suffering. And will suffer for another generation now that you've fucked with people's genes.

How can anyone test anything American government and its propaganda press puts out after this horrific and insane mass experiment they inflicted on half the world?

ISIS plans for significant attack on Hawl Camp

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, a high-ranking official said they received intelligence information detailing that the Islamic State (ISIS) is planning for a full-scale control over Hawl Camp in the east of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.

Two days ago, clashes could be heard in the first sector of Hawl Camp where thousands of ISIS family members and IDPs shelter, eyewitnesses told North Press.

Since the prison break in Hasakah, the source said they have received information of a likely widespread attack by ISIS on Hawl Camp.

“Last Monday, a group of ISIS cells were planning for a full-scale attack in the camp, and it is possible that this group is the first one to plan for such attacks,” the source said.

“We noticed a crowd of people in the first sector and when the security forces headed to the scene to question about reason of the gathering, ISIS cells started shooting,” the sources said.

Two members of ISIS cell were killed and others were injured. The rest of them were arrested.

On the other hand, two members of the Asayish as well as four Iraqi refugees (a man, a child, and two women) were also injured.

Their health condition is stable, the source said.

Some of ISIS members wore suicide vests, the source added.

The Hawl Camp is a house for about 15,300 families in total of 56,000 individuals including 2,423 families of ISIS detained or killed militants, who hail from over than 60 countries.

Government Corruption
How Congress Invested in 2021
[Zero Hedge] Some folks made about average, some lost some, a few lost a lot. Lots of charts, graphs, and specifics at the link. One item of interest:
Nancy Pelosi made a 48% return last year investing $970K in NVIDIA in July and $695K in Roblox in March. What’s even more interesting is that these returns are just considering the stocks she bought last year and not including the options returns [8].

But on the matter of whether to restrict trading by lawmakers, this was Pelosi’s response

We are a free-market economy. They (Congress) should be able to participate in that. - Nancy Pelosi
"You expect us to live on what you pay us? Have you seen my freezer??"
As I highlighted at the beginning of the article, it’s high time that we bar elected representatives from trading stocks. This would be at least a step in the right direction to gain back the trust that the general public has lost in their representatives. Until then, we can try following their trades to find that all-elusive alpha! This article from The Business Times summarized it best for me.

US Congress can trade stocks or keep the public trust. Not both

The menacing 40-mile-long Russian military vehicle convoy bearing down on Kyiv appears to have stalled
[INSIDER] A large 40-mile-long convoy of Russian military vehicles appears to have stalled on its way to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine and a key objective as more and more Russian forces move into the country to support Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has suffered a number of setbacks, and the Russian advance has slowed in the face of not only substantial Ukrainian resistance but also logistics and supply problems.

Some invading Russian forces are "literally out of gas" and are "having problems feeding their troops," according to a senior US defense official who briefed reporters on Tuesday.
They have not foking 'stalled.' They are the BAIT! There could be no other military or tactical reason for parking a convoy bumper to bumper, hub to hub. Putin has his air force and nuclear forces standing by, awaiting a NATO response. For the love of Gawd, DO NOT TAKE THE BAIT !

Neoconservatives and the MIC (one in the same) are restless and impatient to get involved in yet another war. You did see the Ukrainian lapel pins, flags, and pocket squares in the State of the Union ?

Meanwhile, we continue to support Putin's expansionism by purchasing his crude oil. Global war, the perfect pretext for globalism. NATO needs a booster shot. Xi needs validation. COVID is waning. Fauci is gone from the media. A new, even larger crisis must soon unfold.

The Super Yamato class battleships of WWII were built with US steel. Japan had no steel. With the exception of petro-dollars, Putin is broke. You decide what is taking place here.

Mexico: The Drug Cartel's President Won't Impose Economic Sanctions on Russia
[NBC] Mexico's President López Obrador declines to impose economic sanctions on Russia

The latest action from the Mexican president stands in contrast to the international sanctions imposed on Russia for President Vladimir Putin’s actions.

"We are not going to take any sort of economic reprisal because we want to have good relations with all the governments in the world," López Obrador told a news conference.

López Obrador’s position stands in contrast to the international sanctions imposed on Russia for President Vladimir Putin’s actions.

Russia has built strong links to various governments in Latin America, especially authoritarian administrations in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, but its ties with Mexico are seen to be limited due to the strong U.S.-Mexico relations.

The Mexican and U.S. economies are deeply intertwined. But leftist leader López Obrador has at times had testy relations with the United States and has criticized U.S. foreign policy.

López Obrador’s comments came in response to a question about the interest in Mexico of Russia’s second-largest oil producer Lukoil and Russian airline Aeroflot.

Students leave schools due to poor services in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The children of Abdulwahhab Abdullah, a resident of the town of Abu Hamam, east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, attend a destroyed school which located 500 meters away from his house.

“The school suffers from many problems, it does not have water, the windows are broken and do not protect the children from the cold, as well as the heaters have been robbed,” Abdullah said.

Dust fills the faces and clothes of Abdullah’s children due to the school’s rubble, “if the situation remained like that, many students would stop attending it.”

During the battles between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Islamic State (ISIS), 60 schools were completely or partially destroyed in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The eldest son of Abdullah is in the fourth grade while the youngest is in the first, they both suffer from dust allergy, so he called on the concerned parties and those responsible for educational process to pay more attention to these problems.

The towns and countryside of east Deir ez-Zor include about 600 schools, where about 212,000 students study, according to the Education Committee in Deir ez-Zor.

Muhammad Aboud, the co-chair of the Education Committee in the eastern region, revealed to North Press that there will be a meeting in the coming period with the Education Committee in Deir ez-Zor.

The meeting will focus on developing a mechanism for restoring the partially destroyed schools, after receiving several complaints from educational staff and the parents, regarding the impacts of the schools’ destruction on the educational process, according to Aboud.

Students’ dropout is a major problem facing school administrations in the region, Aboud said.

The educational staff is facing many difficulties, due to the destruction of the school’s infrastructure, according to Maha Ahmad, principal of Hawi Abu Hamam School, east of Deir ez-Zor.

Hawi school has neither main gate nor fence, therefore “Sometimes students leave school and go home without telling us, we cannot control the students.”

Beside these problem the school’s floor is not leveled and is covered with dirt, the same applies to sanitary facilities and bathrooms, Ahmed further explained.

“The situation is very bad in the school, the teachers are suffering and can’t give any lessons when it is windy, some students stopped attending school because they are suffering from allergic or asthma.”

Most of the school’s property was stolen, and local and international organizations contributed to the repairs after the residents returned to the city, where they worked to restore what they could, but that require a huge financial resource, according to local residents.

Perhaps what Ahmad hopes at this stage, from the organizations and the Education Committee of the Autonomous Administration is to reconsider the course of the educational process, through reforming schools to facilitate the return of students to them.

Families Of Bureau De Change Operators Arrested For ‘Financing Boko Haram’ Protest In Kano

Family members of Bureau De Change operators arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly financing terrorism have called on the Nigerian government to release their sons, husbands and fathers or take them to the court.

In March 2021, Senior Special Assistant to The President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said the Nigerian Government had arrested some Bureau De Change operators who were facilitating the transfer of money to Boko Haram terrorists.

He had said some Nigerians transferring money to the sect from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were working with the BDC operators.

“Bureau de change are facilitating money to terrorists. We have already worked with the UAE. Convictions have been achieved of Nigerians who are transferring money to Boko Haram terrorists and this also happens domestically. And I tell you that by the time we finish this investigation, the shocking details will surprise many Nigerians,” Shehu had said.

“Dozens of persons have been arrested by security agents in an ongoing nationwide crackdown on suspected financiers and collaborators of Boko Haram.”

Those arrested are being kept in military and DSS facilities in Abuja and other places.

It was learnt that the Nigerian government last month granted their family members access to them for the first time since their arrest, 11 months ago.

The protesters, who demonstrated in Kano on Wednesday, lamented that the absence of their breadwinners had continued to take a negative toll on their families.

Both the US and Russia are led by intelligence agencies. Vlad and the FSB on one side. The Klingons on the other.

The S-2 (intelligence officer) sees the S-3 (operations officer) as a moron. He secretly dreams of becoming the S-3, or assuming the role of operator. Vlad and our own intelligence community are 'living the dream.' Everyone wants to be an 'operator.'

Please tell me I am wrong.

Operation to Denazify Ukraine: operational summary March 2 (updated)
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[NewsFrontInfo] 23:41 Russia is not gathering any additional troops to involve them in the operation in Ukraine - Pentagon

23:08 A missile and bomb attack was carried out on the buildings of the Ministry of Defense and the command of the ground forces of Ukraine in Kyiv, Ukrainian media report.

23:03 The Russian Aerospace Forces resumed strikes against the objects of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, National Battalions and Terodefense in Kharkov.

23:01 Mariupol is still booming with episodes. So there are battles for the city. Azov just won’t leave, they have nowhere to go.

22:58 The delivery of humanitarian aid to the territory of Ukraine from the Belgorod region has begun.

We need more such actions and personnel.

22:22 Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation: We appeal to all international organizations, all without exception, as well as to the leadership of Ukraine - to immediately ensure the creation of humanitarian corridors for access to safe places for all citizens who have expressed a desire to do so, all without exception.

22:20 The Ukrainian delegation leaves for negotiations with Russia in Belovezhskaya Pushcha.

22:18 In the Sumy region, a Ukrainian self-propelled gun was destroyed, which fired from a residential area.

22:15 Destroyed by the troops of the DPR T-64BV of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the village of Prokhorovka.

22:10 A convoy with humanitarian aid from Crimea arrived in settlements in southern Ukraine. The irony of fate... Ukraine cut off the water supply to the Crimea, and promised to make it deserted. And Crimea collected humanitarian aid for her. Because he knows how important it is when in difficult times there is someone who will lend a hand and lend a shoulder.

22:02 Russia has formed humanitarian convoys to help the population of Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

22:00 In the Lugansk region, the mayor of Kremennaya Vladimir Struk was found dead, who had previously offered local deputies to start communication with Russia and the "LPR". According to his wife, unknown men in camouflage stole it yesterday. His body was found today with a gunshot wound to the heart.

21:56 Russian Defense Ministry: It is necessary to immediately provide humanitarian corridors for the exit of citizens in Ukraine to safe places. At the same time, nationalists prevent the exit of civilians from Kyiv, Kharkov and Mariupol. The Russian Armed Forces are counting on prompt assistance from the UN, the OSCE and human rights organizations in resolving humanitarian issues in Ukraine.

21:38 The mayor of Kherson, who just yesterday heroically resisted the "aggressor", has already changed his shoes in a jump. A worthy example to other mayors, do not break the comedy and do not ruin people.

21:17 Basurin on blocking and storming Mariupol: Everything is going as planned. Volnovakha will be ours soon. Mariupol is blocked. If, after all, there is a normal consciousness that they will allow the civilian population to leave the city, this would make the path easier for us. If not,

17:51 Residents of resort villages to the west of Mariupol (near Belosarayskaya Spit) report that they are surrounded: Ukrainian troops do not let them go to Urzuf and further to the territories liberated by Russia. The Yalta-Mangush road was mined, and the road along the Sea of Azov to Mariupol - bridges along the steep coast were blown up. The connection is barely there. In Mangush itself, they say that our people did not enter the city, but went around it to the north.

17:50 During the day, the Russian Aerospace Forces made about 400 sorties: Strategic facilities and stocks of materiel are put out of action, radars and air defense systems, and accumulations of equipment are destroyed. The workshops for the production of Molotov Cocktails and advanced positions are being liquidated. Arsenals and position areas are put out of action. The embargo on massive fire destruction of objects of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which was in effect until now, has been finally lifted. So far, we have seen the work of infantry units, special forces, army aviation, and artillery. Now the results of the full-fledged work of fighter-bomber aviation have gone. But the grouping of the Russian Navy in the Black and Azov Seas has not yet been fully involved.

17:45 "Valiant" Ukrainian soldiers are sitting in ambush at the school. They will wait until the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are planted with them, after which CNN, the BBC and other non-polite people will join the case with the topic of merciless executions of schools by Russians. This is just to understand with whom and what kind of war is going on.

17:39 At the moment, a cleansing of the city of Mariupol is underway.

17:36 A resident of Berdyansk about taking control of the city by the armed forces of the Russian Federation: “It is now calm, safe here, crime has been neutralized. There is no police, everything is closed, blocked. In fact, we have complete anarchy here, but at the same time, doctors go to work for free, there are volunteers, ”said a local resident.

17:27 On the territory recently occupied by Ukraine, an elderly woman crossed a convoy of the Russian Armed Forces, and then the fighter climbed into the locker and gave her part of his dry ration. Moved to tears.

on the territory recently occupied by Ukraine, an elderly woman crossed our column, and then the fighter climbed into the locker and gave her part of his dry ration

17:25 On the offensive on Slavyansk: Russian equipment reached Izyum even moreyesterday. The servicemen of the RF Armed Forces staged a duel with mortar crews of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and then retreated back. Briefly about Ukraine. 03/02/2022
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin

[ColonelCassad] 1. Mariupol. The city is blocked. Fighting on the outskirts. There is no direct assault yet. They are still trying to negotiate the withdrawal of civilians, but the Nazis will not refuse a human shield. There will be a storm one way or another.

2. Volnovakha. Surrounded. The stripping process is not fully captured yet. The enemy has very heavy losses,

3. Position near Donetsk. The attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (sally) on Gorlovka did not give any results, both sides suffered losses. The shelling of the territory of the DPR continues.

4. The liberation of the republic continues in the LPR. Svatovo and Novoaidar were liberated. The enemy retreats, abandoning his equipment. It will be kept only in Severodonetsk and Lisichansk, but they have already begun to process it there.

5. RF Armed Forces have occupied Balakleya and are moving towards Izyum. And there and Slavyansk not far. It is very likely that in the coming days, part of the forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that remained in the northern regions of the LPR and did not have time to retreat will be surrounded and liquidated.

6. Kharkov. The RF Armed Forces are already kept in semi-coverage. Fighting on the outskirts. In the city - the methodical destruction of enemy manpower and its organizational and command structure. Along the way, they continue to finish off the remaining military facilities.

7. RF Armed Forces approached Brovary. There is no direct assault yet. Battles near Chernigov, measures to establish full control over Konotop. Trostyanets is completely occupied. Sumy and Akhtyrka are still not completely controlled.

8. To the west of Kyiv, positional battles - the RF Armed Forces are pulling up additional forces. There are losses in equipment on both sides.

9. Zaporozhye direction. Battles near Vasilievka. Armed Forces of Ukraine are constantly pouring into the village. Energodar has not yet carried out a cleansing operation.

10. Kherson. The city was occupied at night by the troops of the RF Armed Forces. The local authorities eventually agreed. The city is relatively calm.

11. In the region of Nikolaev, fighting continues to block the city, which has not yet been achieved. The situation in the area of the Nikolaev-Krivoy Rog highway is unclear. Helicopter landing in the area of Nikolaev. One of the bridges was blown up near Voznesensk.

12. No one landed in Odessa as usual. In the morning, Russian ships appeared on the horizon, then they withdrew. Beyond the horizon, something smoked. Perhaps there was another naval battle with the remaining boats of the Ukrainian Navy, which, after the battle at Zmeiny, went to Odessa. (later it turned out that a foreign cargo ship was smoking, something might have arrived)

So far, there are no details. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine asks Zelensky to achieve a pause in hostilities, since the city is not covered from the land direction and is not ready to repel the attack of Russian columns bypassing Nikolaev from the north.

From a completely fresh, completely wild story in Vasilkovo, where the local Volkssturm staged a massacre at a local school. 4 Volkssturmists killed 14 other Volkssturmists, policemen and civilians.

Ukropropaganda hastened to announce that they were "Russian saboteurs" who rushed into the basement of the school (yes, everything happened at the school), where there were 300 children, protecting whom all these idiots died. This is what giving out weapons to random people leads to. Yesterday, in the same area, Volkssturmists looted 2 collection vehicles.

In this case, Russian propaganda doesn’t even need to try, just show yourself this bloody trash, which says a lot about the Volkssturm and those who created it in this form.

PS. Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will be held tomorrow in Belovezhskaya Pushcha.

Lavrov outlined the negotiating position of the Russian Federation:

⚡️I don’t rule out that someone wanted Russia to get bogged down in a man-made, Western-created conflict in Ukraine

⚡️Russian demands on Ukraine cannot be qualified as its surrender, Moscow offers to negotiate

⚡️If the West decided to lower a new “iron curtain” in front of Russia, we won’t we will worry and find an opportunity to develop

⚡️The task of the operation in Ukraine is to identify specific types of strike weapons that will never be deployed there

⚡️After the end of the conflict, Ukrainians themselves must decide how to live on

⚡️Kiev has not yet confirmed the second round of consultations with the Russian Federation

⚡️NATO is trying to involve neutral countries - members of the European Union in meeting their needs

⚡️Moscow is amazed by Berlin's comments on Ukraine and arms supplies

⚡️Russia during the second round of negotiations with Ukraine is ready to discuss the issue of security guarantees

⚡️Zelensky came to power under the slogans of peace, in the end he became a Russophobe, like the Poroshenko government

⚡️Ukraine has a technical potential to create a nuclear weapon, the Russian Federation will not allow this

⚡️Russia is 100% “successful” in the current situation

⚡️The current situation has developed due to the fact that the West refused to recognize equal rights for the Russian Federation in organizing the European security architecture
⚡️The parameters of the demilitarization of Ukraine have yet to be agreed

⚡️ Moscow will not discuss the topic of Crimea, this topic is closed.

⚡️The West in its sanctions against Russia, including the seizure of assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, did not give a damn about all its principles.

⚡️The purpose of the ongoing operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine is to protect people, primarily in the Donbass.

⚡️Russia is now observing "information terrorism" with the stuffing of millions of fakes, which Moscow exposes.

⚡️Russia's position in negotiations with Ukraine: Crimea is part of the Russian Federation, recognition of the DPR and LPR within administrative boundaries, demilitarization, which must have certain parameters.

⚡️Ukraine must go through the denazification procedure, like Germany did in the past.

⚡️During the special operation, we do everything to prevent any serious civilian casualties.

⚡️Russia cannot watch how participants in torchlight processions march under fascist, neo-Nazi banners in modern Europe.

⚡️Russia offers Ukraine an agreement that will ensure the legal rights of all the peoples of this country.

In fact, these are all the same requirements as at the beginning of the operation. Ukrainian sources claim that by March 2, Zelensky was already ready to recognize Crimea and the LDNR within the borders before the start of the operation. But of course this will not suit the Russian Federation, the game is not worth the candle. Incurring significant costs for the operation and from sanctions pressure, from the situation in Ukraine, it is necessary to take the maximum possible result.

UPD: The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has officially announced the losses in Ukraine since the beginning of the operation.

The RF Armed Forces have 498 killed. The Armed Forces of Ukraine - 2,870 killed and 3700 wounded.

[ColonelCassad] Quotes of great men.

“Putin can surround Kiev with tanks, but he will never get the souls and hearts of the Iranians” (c) Joe Biden

PS. By events.

1. The assault on Mariupol began at night, the fighting is going on.

2. The cleansing of Kherson is almost over, at night the RF Armed Forces were already in the city center. A number of key facilities are occupied.

3. The attack on Nikolaev is developing with the aim of blocking the city.

4. Active fighting continued on the outskirts of Kharkov. The destruction of military installations continued.

5. At night, the base of the same 95th brigade, which in 2014 fired at Slovyansk from Karachun, was wrecked.

Commentary below by Russian military blogger Andrey Chervonets
Russian units completely took control of Kherson

The Russian army is in Kherson. Now finally

The political elite of the city entered into negotiations with the Russian Federation, the territorial defense and points of resistance of the Bandera-Shukhevych army were destroyed. There are already many personnel controlling the city by the Russian military. But I would note how considerate the Russians are towards the population - like liberators. In this video, a Russian warns a Kherson resident and tells him to hide.

Now it will be like Melitopol, quiet, calm, the streets are full of lighting and patrols of people's squads from marauders. It is known that the Russians will be preparing military administrations and many current officials will be asked to continue their duties.

From the news on this topic - the mayor of Konotop very actively persuaded the inhabitants of the city that either the city surrenders or there will be a military operation in it. From the facial expressions of the mayor, it was clear that he did not want to expose the townspeople to this risk, but most of the population is still under the influence of Bandera-Shukhevych propaganda and euphoria.

The whole situation in Ukraine rests on three “pillars”, where a huge number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is concentrated.

1. Kharkov, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine pulled their forces 4 days before the hostilities.

2. Mariupol, where there was always a huge amount of Azov.

3. Kiev, where all reserves were pulled from western Ukraine. As soon as two of this list fall, the domino principle is immediately possible.

Fog of War. What made Russia and ‘the West' engage in an unrelenting wrestling match on the edge of the abyss, with both sides eventually falling off the cliff?
Very, very long.
[NewLeftReview] Accounting for the descent of the European state system into the barbarism of war — for the first time since NATO’s 1999 bombing of Belgrade — needs more than lay psychiatry. What made Russia and ’the West’ engage in an unrelenting wrestling match on the edge of the abyss, with both sides eventually falling off the cliff? As we live through these monstrous weeks, we understand better than ever what Gramsci must have meant by an interregnum: a situation ’in which the old is dying and the new cannot be born’, one in which ’a great variety of morbid symptoms appear’, like powerful countries turning their future over to the uncertainties of a battlefield clouded in the fog of war.

Nobody knows at the time of writing how the war over Ukraine will end, and after what amount of bloodshed. What we can try to speculate about at this point is what the reasons may have been — and human actors have reasons, however crankish they may seem to others — for the uncompromising brinkmanship on the part of both the US and Russia. What a scene: escalating confrontation, rapidly dwindling possibilities for either side to save face short of total victory, ending with Russia’s murderous assault on a neighbouring country with which it once shared a common state.

Here we find remarkable parallels, as well as the obvious asymmetries, since both Russia and the United States have long been facing the creeping decay of both their national social order and international position, apparently making them feel that they must halt it now or else it will continue forever. In the Russian case, what one sees is a regime both statist and oligarchic, confronting growing unrest among its citizens, rich in oil and corruption, unable to improve the lives of its ordinary people while its oligarchs are getting immeasurably rich, a regime increasingly turning towards the use of a heavy dictatorial hand against any organized protests. To sit more comfortably than one can on bayonets requires stability derived from economic prosperity and social progress, in turn dependent on global demand for the oil and gas Russia has to sell. For this, however, it needs access to financial markets and advanced technology, which the US had for some time begun to deny.

#2  You didn't actually engage with any ideas or make any arguments. That's just a personal insult. People who answer with insults don't have any arguments. Otherwise they'd make them.

How about addressing this point:

"For the US, refusing Russian demands for security guarantees was a convenient way to shore up the unconditional allegiance of European countries to NATO, an alliance that had become shaky in recent years. This concerned especially France, whose president had not long ago diagnosed NATO to be as ’brain-dead’, but also Germany with its new government whose leading party, the SPD, was considered too Russian-friendly. There was also unfinished business regarding a gas pipeline, Nord Stream 2. Merkel, in tandem with Schröder, had invited Russia to build it, hoping to fill the gap in German energy supply expected to result from the FRG’s Sonderweg running out of coal and nuclear power. The US opposed the project, as did many others in Europe, including the German Greens. Among the reasons were fears that the pipeline would make Western Europe more dependent on Russia, and that it would be impossible for Ukraine and Poland to interrupt Russian gas deliveries should Moscow be found to misbehave.

The confrontation over Ukraine, by restoring European allegiance to American leadership, solved this problem in no time."

War, what is it good for? Profit for the oil industry! Don't buy Russian gas, buy ours!

#3  Profit for the oil industry! Don't buy Russian gas, buy ours!

A good idea for America, even without war. And without war, Russia could have easily sold more of their oil and gas to other customers instead — like China, Japan, India, Europe, etc. The world is coming out of a Covid-caused economic slowdown, so demand for Russian oil will only increase... or would have, before countries started boycotting Russia over Ukraine.

#8  Once again nobody has been able to refute any of the arguments made.

Because there aren't any. The facts are here.

Would an alliance between China and Russia be an unintended result of American incompetence, or on the contrary, an intended result of American global strategy? If Moscow were to team up with Beijing, there would be no prospect anymore for a Russian-European settlement à la francaise. Western Europe, in whatever political form, would more than ever function as the transatlantic wing of the United States in a new cold or, perhaps, hot war between the two global power blocs, the one declining, hoping to reverse the tide, the other hoping to rise.

Wouldn't that be hilarious if this drove China into the arms of Russia? They're not natural allies. But let me tell you - their university students don't have 48 different genders and are not required to write diversity statements before commencing research.

And Europeans just love kowtowing to America on every topic. Don't believe me, just ask them!

#9  Russia cannot trust China. Nobody, as we have discovered during the Wuhan flu shut down, can trust China. Trusting China is good way to become owned by China.

Demand for oil is largely inelastic.

As the price drops, demand increases. As the world economy heats up, demand increases. When the price goes up, demand decreases.

#10  "Nobody can trust China" eh?

That must be why Ukraine is now asking CHINA, not the US or anyone in Europe, to step in and broker a cease-fire.

#15  Russia is doing now what Israel does repeatedly in southern Kabanin or Gaza and what the Chinese did to Vietnam in the Sino-Vietnamese War in 1979.

Punish the hostile neighbor by wrecking the country, and warn the greater power behind it -- Iran, or the USSR in Vietnam's case in 1979 -- that there is a severe price to pay for ducking with Israel's / China's security.

Yes, the Chinese like the Israelis suffer setbacks and lose men and materiel. But the lesson is taught.

And in China's case, the second order effects were extremely positive over the long term:

"Although the Vietnamese remained pugnacious – a national trait – the war made clear that their Soviet patron would not fight to defend them. The USSR’s only contribution to the conflict was a supply airlift. Deng had bluffed and called, and the Soviets folded.

"Obviously the PLA accomplished its mission, but the Vietnamese had taught the Chinese a lesson on the battlefield – one that Deng used for his own larger purpose.

"The lessons of the war allowed Deng to sweep out the ossified Maoist old guard and embark on the modernization and professionalization of the PLA.

"The result today is technologically advanced, operationally sound and strategically sophisticated Chinese armed forces to match the country’s emergence as an economic giant."

#16  Substitute Ukraine for Vietnam and the US for the USSR:

"Although the Vietnamese Ukrainians remained pugnacious – a national trait – the war made clear that their Soviet American patron would not fight to defend them.

Also note the second-order effects:

"The lessons of the war allowed Deng to sweep out the ossified Maoist old guard and Putin to embark on the modernization and professionalization of the PLA Russian military-industrial complex, including creating its own semiconductor manufacturing industry, accelerating its AI cyber warfare development and creating a Sino-Russian alliance that more than half the world's nations flocked to as a way of getting out from America's thumb.

Now the American Century's finished.

Yes, Russia will suffer, Ukraine is torn apart and will be even poorer and more miserable than it was before the war (they were even poorer than most of Africa), and the US post Cold War hegemony will have ended.

"While Putin's invasion of Ukraine is on every mind, the Biden team is courting Putin to make a deal with Iran while no one is looking.

"A deal that will give Iran a bomb by 2024 and gives Iran sanctions relief now that frees up oil for cash to pay Putin for weapons & Syria. The Iran deal punishes Israel and Sunni allies"

#27  Team Biden is buying millions of barrels of Russian oil.
Team Biden (Rob Malley) is at this moment about to sign a new JCPOA in Vienna.

They are literally asking Russia to help Iran build up its military -- and acquire nukes.

And doing this behind your backs. While they pretend to bash Russia -- but not, of course, providing any meaningful assistance to Ukraine that will make any difference at all.

Now do you see why Biden said helping ***IRANIANS*** instead of Ukrainians on Tuesday night?

When will you little children stop being so fucking blind?
