Besoeker, when I clicked on the link, it landed on the following post. Did you intend to highlight this one?
Ukraine NOW [English]
⚡️Russian losses equal the number they suffered during Afghan war. Key points of the speech of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov:
🔻 In 13 days of the war, Russian soldiers killed 38 Ukrainian children and wounded more than 70. The data on more than 400 civilians killed and more than 800 wounded have been confirmed.
🔻 400,000 Ukrainians were taken hostage in Mariupol. They are constantly shelled by aircraft, rocket artillery, and missiles.
🔻 In 11 days, the Russian occupiers destroyed more than 200 Ukrainian schools, 34 hospitals, and more than 1,500 residential buildings.
🔻 Where are your values and ideals? Where is the work of international organizations that cost billions of dollars? Where is the UN, the Red Cross, the OSCE? They are not here.
🔻 A few more days, and Russia's losses of the killed and wounded will outweigh the losses of 10 years of war in Afghanistan.
🔻 Today, Europe has a chance to defeat a tyrant who has intimidated everyone for decades. This requires Ukraine to persevere.
🔻 I urge everyone to show that the free world is not afraid of a single tyrant hiding in a bunker.

How does helping Zelensky help Americans?
Leave out the Trump interregnum. Can anyone explain how the W-Obama-Biden policy toward Ukraine and Russia made us...
stronger?
more secure?
freer and wealthier?
Now ordinary Americans are becoming little slaves to China, jerked around by global commodities markets.
Why are our leaders doing this?
WTF explains their insanity?

WTF explains their insanity?
Many are people that have 'No skin in the Game' -- they work for public schools (or other 'guaranteed income' jobs) and can emote without any fear of the consequences. If they could be drafted, or their children, things might seem more 'Real"...
You wouldn't think so but it seems we have a lot of war mongering fuckers in Washington DC and New York City who are working overtime to make it our problem. I don't believe they are insane...just evil.

M.M. While I agree with you on most things, it IS our fight. I don't like the "Peace in Our Time" crowd. They don't have a good track record. The world is too small to ignore Hitlerian thinking. That said, a shooting war will probably be the final curtain on our little civilization story. So no.
All means to convince Russians that Putin will get them and us killed, yes.

^ False analogy. The resolution to this is simple: it's no NATO expansion plus the Minsk II agreement that Zelensky ignored.
Which we could easily have had if our leaders were not out to destroy us by building up China and destroying our wealth and our freedoms at home.

Oh ok. So we're kinda-sorta (but not really) fighting Russia by forcing them to ship all of their huge natural resource wealth to China. Because ...China's our ally?
Because we want to build up China -- at our own expense?
Because we fondly hope and fervently pray that China will emerge as the dominant power in the world?
Does this make any FUCKING sense?

What would makes sense is pumping enough oil domestically that we supply our own needs while dropping the price worldwide. Simultaneously, balance the budget so we don’t need to borrow from China. If we cut those purse strings they lose half their power over us. If we finish moving our manufacturing out of China and find or develop alternate sources for all the stuff and manufacturing feedstocks we buy from them, they would lose the other half of their power over us, it seems to me.

How does helping Zelensky help Americans?
I heard the term Elephant trap used by folks to describe the US getting entangled in a painful war in Vietnam. There is value to the Russians using up their military assets and showing they aren't the fearful war machine everyone thought they were. If we can manage that by supplying Zelensky we should.

Whoops! But better in a primary than the real thing in November.
[Examiner] Election officials discovered 10,000 uncounted mail-in ballots over the weekend in Texas's most populous county after the first-in-the-nation 2022 primary last week.
Two close Democratic primary races, one for a state House seat and another for Texas attorney general, hang in the balance. The ballots, 6,000 for Democrats and 4,000 for Republicans, were scanned into the tabulation computer, but they were not added to the unofficial final results, Harris County officials announced Sunday.
"While we understand the seriousness of this error, the ability to identify and correct this issue is a result of a lengthy and rigorous process and is a positive example of the process ultimately working as it should," the county, which includes most of Houston, said in a statement obtained by the Texas Tribune.
Candis Houston, who is trailing incumbent state Rep. Harold Dutton Jr. by 136 votes in the Democratic primary, has already conceded the race. Dutton was baffled that so many ballots had gone missing without anyone noticing.
"It seems to me that somebody should’ve known that 10,000 ballots were missing," Dutton said. "If 10,000 ballots were missing and nobody knew that, God help us."
Joe Jaworski, former mayor of Galveston, Texas, leads civil rights attorney Lee Merritt by 1,418 votes in the race to become the Democratic nominee for attorney general. Although Jaworski claimed victory Friday, Merritt has not conceded, and it remains unclear who will receive the second spot in a runoff planned for May. Incumbent Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton will also face a runoff election after failing to secure at least 50% of the vote in the Lone Star State’s Republican primary.
Among the other complications reported for the March 1 primary in Harris County were delays caused by 1,600 damaged ballot sheets, two voting locations reporting minor technical difficulties with their machines, and a shortage of election workers.
In addition, as a consequence of stricter new voting rules, thousands of mail-in ballots lacking proper identification were sent back, the News Agency that Dare Not be Named reported.
How many of those went to real people at real addresses?

...That appears - stress the 'appears' - to be a positively ancient armored train, definitely no nukes. My guess would be that since the Ukranians are whacking rail nodes, one of these relics would come in kind of handy.
And no, Mr. Van Aken, it's not a nuke train. If it was, the nice folks taking the video wouldn't have lasted long enough to tweet it.

The Russians have an excellent rail network. But they don't have excellent unit logistics. They have too few support trucks per fighting unit. So they are stuck moving forward 200km and then have to pause to build up a forward supply base for a week or two. Rinse and repeat.
Combined with crappy maintenance, iffy part supplies and a general lack of most essentials to be moved forward quickly, you get what you see today.
Once the ground dries out so tanks can not just be stuck to chokepoints and ambush locations of roads, and supply stocks are refilled, Ukraine will be very hard pressed to hold their cities.

Because if so, Russia has as much responsibility for not shutting them down as we do. But regardless, China needs to shut up before we remind them kinetically that their biolab is the one that released super-Covid into the wild, and they not only covered it up, but worked to spread it out in the world faster while sabotaging development and manufacture of treatments as well as selling subpar masks, gowns, and gloves after having cleared the shops in Europe and the US of all the quality stuff.

Russian National Guard Lt. Col. UKRAINIAN GENERAL STATEMENT REGARDING NAZIS IN UKRAINE.
00:09:55 Ukrainian Army General in 2014 said that Masons and Jews now control Ukraine.
00:05:10 The Ukraine gov't gives military grade weapons to the criminals in Ukraine, who have begun stealing, raping, and shooting up Ukraine citizens
00:02:00 Putin states, "Neo Nazi forces provide heavy weapons to Central Kiev and Kharkov, to draw return fire by Russian armed forces against civilians. Ukrainian army, do not permit them to use you, your women, your children, and your elderly as human shields. It will be so much easier to talk and negotiate with you, instead of this gang of Nazis that has captured Kiev."
[France24] In an interview with FRANCE 24 on Monday, former US national security adviser and retired lieutenant general Herbert Raymond McMaster said that Ukraine can win the war with Russia, remarking that President Vladimir Putin had already lost the conflict in a sense by not winning outright.
McMaster said the Russian military had proven to be a "Potemkin army" and said they would continue to face stiff resistance from Ukrainians backed by a united West.
He said he feared, however, that Putin might launch an all-out assault on Kyiv, similar to the one he unleashed on Grozny in Chechnya and in Syria's Aleppo. He urged Western countries to do more to help Ukraine by sending increasingly sophisticated weapons and setting up training posts in the west of the country.
McMaster predicted that Putin’s final goal is not limited to Ukraine but that he also has his eyes trained on Moldova and Georgia. He urged the world to take seriously the threat of Russian using a nuclear device, especially as it struggles on the ground in Ukraine and faces crippling sanctions from a united front of Western powers.
#2
Putin has already lost strategically. He is just trying to keep grinding to force Ukraine into his terms so he can save face. If the Russians fix their logistics, wait until the mud clears up and blitzes through Kyiv and captures the government, Putin will get everything he wants.
If the Ukrainians pile up Russian bodies in front of the city and drag this out for a few months, Putin will have little choice but to call this off as his position will get weaker and weaker back home and internal unrest becomes too much.
#3
Yes, keep burning through your troops, ammo, food, pol, and resources. Buying time for others to actually get their military up from deep rusting storage to a somewhat functional status (cause the Yanks are degrading theirs as fast as politically possible).

It all depends on 'win' means doesn't it? A cheap "Short Victorious War" (like Panama '89) installing a puppet government has already hit a snag in execution.
NEW YORK (AP) — A U.S. judge was set Tuesday to question one of the jurors who convicted the British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell of helping the millionaire Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse teenage girls.
Maxwell’s lawyers say the verdict should be thrown out over the juror’s apparent failure to disclose before the trial began that he’d been a victim of childhood sexual abuse.
U.S. Judge Alison J. Nathan intends to ask the juror why he failed to note his personal history on a questionnaire during the jury selection process.
Maxwell’s lawyers potentially could have objected to the man’s presence on the jury on the grounds that he might not be fair to a person accused of a similar crime.

[IsraelTimes] Iran’s top diplomat at monthslong talks aimed at restoring its tattered nuclear deal with world powers has flown home for a sudden trip, a sign of the growing pressure on Tehran as the negotiations appear to be nearing their end.
Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency describes Ali Bagheri Kani’s trip late Monday as being "within the framework of the usual consultations during the talks."
However, there's more than one way to skin a cat... the top negotiator for the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... seems to suggest whether the talks succeeded or failed now rested with the Islamic Theocratic Republic.
"There are no longer ’expert level talks.’ Nor ’formal meetings,’" Enrique Mora wrote on Twitter, responding to comments by an Iranian analyst. "It is time, in the next few days, for political decisions to end the #ViennaTalks. The rest is noise."
[Breitbart] Nine out of the top ten states with the most expensive cost of gas per gallon are led by Democrats, according to a report from the Republican Governors Association (RGA).
"The new data comes just days after 25 Republican governors called on the White House to reverse energy policies that have kneecapped America’s domestic energy production," according to the organization. "Experts say the rising cost of gas is related to the effect Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has on foreign oil supplies the Biden Administration has come to rely on."
The RGA cited data from the American Automobile Association (AAA) on the most expensive average costs of gas per gallon (as of Monday morning):
California ($5.28)
Hawaii (4.69)
Nevada ($4.52)
Oregon ($4.46)
Washington ($4.40)
Illinois ($4.26)
Connecticut ($4.21)
New York ($4.20)
Pennsylvania ($4.17)
In contrast, nine out of the top ten states that have the lowest average cost of gas per gallon (as of Monday morning) are led by Republicans.
Missouri ($3.63)
Oklahoma ($3.65)
Arkansas ($3.69)
South Dakota ($3.70)
Iowa ($3.72)
Texas ($3.73)
Nebraska ($3.73)
North Dakota ($3.73)
Wyoming ($3.74)
"Democrat governors are silent as more than two dozen Republican governors have called on Joe Biden to restore American energy independence and ease the burdens felt by every hard working American family," RGA Communications Director Jesse Hunt said in a statement. "Amid record high inflation, the last thing American families need is even higher costs at the pump due to Democrat incompetence at home and now abroad. Voters are quickly finding out, if they hadn’t already, that life under Democrat control in their states is completely unaffordable."

Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin
[ColonelCassad] In the evening, reports came that our troops had driven the APU out of Izyum (although there are reports that there is still some resistance in the southern districts of the city), where part of the 81st brigade of the AFU was defending in the city, which had retreated from the city and is now covering it with artillery and mortars. The positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were actively covered by aircraft. Raisins Izyum are of decisive importance for the entire northern part of the APU grouping in the Donbass.
The route was cut (now with ends) Kharkiv-Izyum. Control over Izyum creates the prerequisites for an attack on Slavyansk from the northwest.
In addition, by controlling Izyum, it is possible to advance on Pavlograd and Barvenkovo, with further cutting of the Donetsk-Pavlograd highway, control over which will lead to a complete operational encirclement of all forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Donbas.
From the south, the troops of the Melitopol group are moving towards the Pavlograd-Donetsk highway, which have already approached Gulyaipol and began to bypass it from the east. Donetsk and Gorlovka continue to endure hard shelling stoically, waiting for the hammer of the RF Armed Forces to fall on the group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
And yes, Izyum is the city from which the ATO in Donbass began. After 8 years, the war has come to where the military phase of the ATO began.

Raisinsare of decisive importance for the entire northern part of the APU grouping in the Donbass.
Silly Google. Изюм / Izyum means "raisin." The city is of decisive strategic importance to the armies involved; the inhabitants of Izyum can survive without a daily raisin allotment.

Contrary to neocons' spin lies and propaganda, the Russian Army will soon control all or nearly all of the Donbas. Gulyaipole is cut off. Kharkov will fall soon. The cauldron's in place now.
Along with no NATO expansion to within a few hundred miles of Russia's capital, autonomy for the Donbas region was the entire basis of the Minsk II agreement.
So now Zelensky and Biden have brought us back to Minsk II, only with thousands dead.
Why are we supporting this madness? Why did we encourage Little Big Man Zelensky to rip up Minsk II and hold out for NATO membership?
Have we ever in our entire history seen such incompetent and destructive US diplomacy?

Do I think every idiot breaking the law needs to be locked up?
NO! Just every felony level and socially violent/mentally harmful one should be.
The Petty crime idiots should be put to Weekend Community Clean-up and other community services. Why waste on average $158.00 a day on the NON-Violent.
With that said there should be a LAW that requires DA'a to indite ALL Felony level crimes
when the evidence points to a person. Plus a law that requires they seek a MANDATORY sentence. Unless presented a GUILTY Plea, only then a reduced sentence equal to 3/4's of the mandatory sentencing. NOTE: Excluding Murder charges
BUT NO WAY IN HELL,
a slap on the wrist or released despite clear guilt, without charges.
#2
In an idea world, the punishment would fit the crime. That would still leave room for lots of exotic solutions. Most petty criminals have a very low tolerance for the fear, frustration and misery they cause. As for the monsters, there's always a scarier monster to introduce them to.

How many states are looking to amend their laws to establish 'dereliction of duty' for those charge with enforcing the law?
[Federalist HT: Menhadden Spaviger9342] You may have heard over the weekend that Americans now "broadly support" imposing a no-fly zone over Ukraine. "A broad bipartisan majority of Americans think the United States should ... work with NATO to set up ’no-fly zones’ to protect Ukraine from Russian air strikes," insisted a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Friday, noting that 74 percent of respondents supported the aggressive move.
The same poll, however, showed that only 39 percent of Americans want to see American troops sent to Ukraine, with fully 61 percent opposed — a statistic that was conveniently left out of the Reuters write-up (the report only mentioned vague "majorities" opposing boots on the ground). That gaping disconnect indicates two things: Most Americans cheering a no-fly zone don’t know what that would entail, and the warmongering media is using that ignorance to the advantage of its agenda.
Pollsters asking Americans if they support a no-fly zone aren’t explaining to them what the consequences of such an action would be. NATO has so far refused to enact a no-fly zone precisely because it would almost certainly lead to war, and Russia has made it clear it would interpret such a move as an act of war.
As my colleague John Daniel Davidson noted last week: "Of course a no-fly zone would mean just that: The U.S. would have to shoot down Russian warplanes, and Russian warplanes would very likely do the same to us. We would be in a shooting war with Russia before the no-fly zone was even established." Florida Republican Rep. Marco Rubio agreed, saying a no-fly zone "would mean World War III."
Reuters even admitted, four paragraphs into its report, that "It was not clear if respondents who supported a no-fly zone were fully aware of the risk of conflict." Of course they weren’t, as evidenced by the 35-point difference between support for a no-fly zone and support for American troop involvement.
The poll also found 57 percent of Americans agreed that "Given the current economic climate, the United States cannot afford to be taking military action in Ukraine." Six in 10 Americans also didn’t want to see the U.S. conduct airstrikes against Russia.
Pollsters didn’t even ask how many respondents would oppose a full-scale war with Russia, a number which would surely be even higher. In fact, look through the toplines of the survey and you won’t even find the word "war."
There’s a real chance that if the United States and the rest of NATO are dragged into a full conflict with Russia over Ukraine, we could see a devastating nuclear war. That’s not a possibility our politicians and media should take lightly, but nevertheless, they continue to recklessly bandy about unserious responses to Russia’s aggression.
While Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., implores his Twitter followers to assassinate Vladimir Putin, and Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., urges a no-fly zone (while also peddling disproven propaganda), the censors who preach about fighting misinformation at home have happily allowed false stories about Ukraine that fit their pro-war agenda to propagate.
Meanwhile, another recent poll from Rasmussen Reports shows the broad divide between elites who are pushing for war and the actual people who would fight it. Overall, 49 percent of American voters answered "yes" to the question, "If a wider war breaks out in Europe, should the U.S. military be involved?"
But that belief is held by only 37 percent of respondents with an income below $30,000, compared to 66 percent of respondents making more than $200,000.
I seem to recall the upper income percentage of respondents in the 80+% range a week ago, in which case the current 66% is a precipitous drop.
The majority of U.S. military recruits come from middle-class backgrounds, a demographic that supports shedding American blood in Europe far less than the ruling class does.
"If a wider war breaks out in Europe, should the U.S. military be involved?"
All Voters - Yes - 49%
- Yes by Income - Under $30K: 37% $30-50K: 48% $50-100K: 51% $100-200K: 52% Over $200K: 66% https://t.co/W4yFT6LZvt

I can almost feel the winds of war. No fly zone, earth shattering 2020 Wisconsin election investigation? Hunter, Clinton, Fauci, and COVID masks, the economy, all of this will likely soon be overcome by events....as planned.
Does anyone think MIGS flying from Poland to the Ukraine will not return to Poland and it's supporting maintenance bases, spares, fuel, ordinance? RU is holding back it's Air Force for just such an event. If Putin sends cruise missiles into Poland, what will NATO do ?
Notice the lack of recent discussion regarding the upcoming US mid-term elections? My guess is there won't be any election.
Biden, or rather his handlers are holding back US oil production for a reason. Could that reason be war? I fear we are on the precipice.
So maybe civil war next ... as if we didn't have enough crises

are now preparing to indict Trump on conspiracy charges.
That should be fun — Donald J. Trump in the national spotlight again, this time with high priced lawyers at his side. CNN will be overjoyed to to be able to cater to the 90% of their audience that they lost when he went home. And the rest as well — they won’t be able to stop themselves from covering it
It’s not like the committee has a leg to stand on. They’re just hoping that somehow this will save their cumulative bacon in November, instead of the comparison between their boy and him being the difference between the living and the stumbling zombie.
Likely supplies for a long-term occupation. Putin sees himself as the savior of the religious cultural icon of Kiev. He may wish to avoid destruction of the city.

We're seeing blowback in real time. While idiots slaver about poking the bear, we're now getting poked in the ass by the rest of the world - a world led by China.
Is that the tail wagging our bitch?
Are the corrupt shits and billionaires who rule roughshod over us actually trying to build up China now? Does that explain their mad encouragement of that little puppet Zelensky - when everything in our society now is going straight to hell?
Whether by design or by accident, what our leaders are doing is insane. Bring down these madmen before they destroy our country

Why Hasn't the 40-Mile Russian Convoy Outside Kyiv Moved in Days?
I read an article somewhere that the Russian trucks use Chinese tires that turned out to be super-substandard. They can't go off-road without getting stuck so the roads are piled up three vehicles wide so vehicles can't get to the front of the columns without new tires or tracked vehicles. Then the long wait has led to batteries and fuel running out.
This might be propaganda, there has been a bit of that bandied about, but if true, that's the military fiasco of the century and will certainly lead to a bit of friction between China and Russia in the future.
#22
The desperation of these assholes is palpable. I have never in all my years seen such blatant misrepresentation of polling data. This is beyond shameless.
No American outside our elites wants to have anything to do with this. But then, no ordinary American supports all the other insane shit these bastards have rained down on our heads for nearly a decade now.
Hoax after hoax after disgusting hoax: "Systemic racism!" "Trump's a Russian agent!!" "White supremacy!!!"
And of course, all the COVID bullshit. "Flatten the curve! finished by Fall 2021! Boosters ad infinitum!"

I wonder if the war approval poll results correlate with the odds that the respondent listens to drive-time NPR.
No, that's right. That is why I got the fox news drive time hype man F-16s for Flying Tiger Club talk.
Had a talk with a neo-Klingon the other day. I hope I got the point across that if he is really for Ukraine, really really, then the best thing to do is let them fight "on their own". If they win "on their own" they negotiate with Russia from strength. If they lose "on their own", they have legitimate grievance. If NATO gets involved, they become a testing field and will always be subject to the current "winner". Are you for Ukraine as a self determining state, or are you for Ukraine because people who lied to you about Covid for 2 years, all these new found friends of Sean Hannity, say "Keev! Qapla!"?
If serious people are still involved, this is being played out and done, so chill. If serious people are not involved, then we don't need to get involved, so chill.

I lost all sympathy for Zelensky when he called for NATO to impose a no-fly-zone over Ukraine. Then Ukraine 2022 can be like Serbia 1914, right? Too bad he listened to the likes of Tony Blinken, John McCain and Lindsey Graham but he should have known that he is just a pawn in their game. Putin offered him a deal. He should take it.

November 2020, Vindman joined the staff of the national security blog Lawfare with a fellowship of the Pritzker Military Foundation.[40] Additionally, he is pursuing a Ph.D. in international affairs at Johns Hopkins University's Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, with an expected completion date in 2022.[41] On August 1, 2020, Vindman authored an opinion piece in the Washington Post addressing his retirement.[42] On February 2, 2022, Vindman sued several Trump allies, alleging that they intimidated and retaliated against him while he testified in Congress, and thereby violated the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871. The defendants in the lawsuit are Donald Trump Jr., Rudy Giuliani, former White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino, and former White House deputy communications director Julia Hahn.
President Biden apparently promoted his brother last year.

That is EXACTLY what US leaders beginning with Eisenhower in the Suez Crisis of 1956 have done repeatedly and with success when dealing with leaders of other nations whose warmongering threatened American interests. Should we have intervened in Hungary that year and set off WWIII? Ike said He'll no. He also kept us out of Vietnam; it was his Democrat successors who dragged us into that mess.
Read Evan Thomas's excellent account, "Ike’s Bluff: President Eisenhower’s Secret Battle to Save the World.”
Here's Evan Thomas recalling Ike's brilliance in 2013:
We think of Ike as a great military man, but as president he used his understanding of the military to rein it in.
Ike’s credo: true national security begins at home with a sound economy, shored up by a careful balance of resources and commitment.
How did Eisenhower do it? Once Ike extricated the United States from the Korean War in 1953, he managed to cut the defense budget over his two terms by about a quarter, from about 70% of the federal budget to 60%. (Today, defense is about 20% of federal spending.)
Aware from reading Clausewitz and his own experience that small wars have a way of becoming big wars, Eisenhower was determined to keep the United States out of any war. He resisted the temptation to send ground troops into Vietnam after the French military collapsed at Dien Bien Phu in 1954. The jungle, he told his National Security Council, would “absorb our troops by divisions.”

No, not the big powers that matter. Just the pipsqueaks like Duterte in the Philippines, Zelensky, AMLO in Mexico, Pinochet back in the day, etc -- that is, put them in their place when their behavior clashes with or threatens to harm American interests.
America First -- with due respect for China and other great powers who can hurt us if they choose. And now we are in a world of hurt because of this asinine policy of encouraging the Little Big Man in Kiev to poke the bear. Unbelievably stupid.

The debate continues:
Is Putin an unstable megalomaniac who will stop at nothing to restore the Soviet Union to its former glory?
Or does he have legitimate concerns about NATO troops on his border?
OK, Putin is a ruthless dictator and a murdering bastard. But how does he see us? Since the collapse of the Soviet Union he has watched NATO advance from one country to another until now it is on the brink of moving into Ukraine which was never an independent nation but was the bread basket of the Soviet Union and, before then, the Russian Empire. Who is the aggressor?
I studied some Russian history in college. I don't remember a lot of it but I was left with some impressions. They have always been isolated way out there in Moscow, so far from glamorous cities like London, Berlin, Vienna and Paris. So they have always been backward compared to the rest of Europe and so their armies have never performed as well as some of their European rivals. We're seeing that now in Ukraine. So they have always relied on keeping vast tracts of land, like Ukraine, between themselves and their enemies.
It's also kinda strange that all this somehow suddenly happens in the lead up to our mid-term elections in which Democrats feared they would suffer staggering losses due to their inept governance. They need a distraction. Then you have Republicans who are on the take from defense contractors. It's been kinda slow since Afghanistan.
Also most peculiar are all the media types on TV, the internet and the newspapers banging on their war drums for all they're worth. They don't know jack squat about Ukraine or Russia and yet they are eager to take sides because bad, bad Putin and brave, brave Zelensky. It stinks. Take a look at CBS News, even Fox News lately, and tell me you can't smell it. Why are we all in such a hurry to take sides in a war that we don't understand?
Wake me up when Putin attacks Poland.

It no longer has food, no water, and electricity and communications are only in fits and starts. Everyone who worked at the enterprises was given work books in their hands and sent home. It is impossible to leave the city: the militants pull people out of cars, take them out into the field and shoot them.
14:47 The forces of the People's Militia of the LPR drove the Nazis out of the village of Kryakovka. Before the start of the war, people lived here, but in 2014 the militants drove the civilians out of their homes, and the settlement itself was turned into a military fortified area.
14:20 Ukrainian Nazis shelled the village of Ozeryanovka, which is located near Gorlovka in the DPR. The details of what happened are being specified.
14:10 The liberation of Mariupol from the Ukrainian Nazis will take place in the near future. The official representative of the People's Militia of the DPR, Eduard Basurin, announced the imminent start of an operation to clean up the city.

13:50 Ukrainian Nazis continue to retreat and abandon their equipment. Near Severodonetsk, the forces of the People's Militia of the LPR captured several infantry fighting vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The letter Z has already been applied to the cars.
13:33 Ukrainian punishers are shelling the Petrovsky district of Donetsk, as well as the villages of Trudovskie and Oleksandrivka from MLRS and artillery. All residents are urged to remain at the shelter.
13:31 Gorlovka in the DPR is again under fire from Kiev militants. They fired 40 rockets from the Grad MLRS into the city.
13:27 Ukrainian Nazis continue to shell the cities of Donbass, but the military notes that they are clearly saving shells. Their logistics is blocked and they have nowhere to wait for new deliveries.
13:23 The southwestern and western part of Gorlovka in the DPR is under intense fire from the Ukrainian Nazis.
13:20 The Kiev Nazis did not even let the employees of the International Committee of the Red Cross out of Mariupol. They tried to leave the city along the humanitarian corridor, but the militants did not let them through, saying that the road was allegedly mined by the People's Militia of the DPR and the Russian army.
13:16 Ukrainian Nazis are shelling the city of Popasnaya in the LPR, which is still under the occupation of Kyiv. They use the Grad MLRS. Cannonade is heard in Kirovsk and Alchevsk, as well as in Gorlovka in the neighboring DPR.
13:00 In the vicinity of Mariupol, the equipment of the People's Militia of the DPR is already moving.
12:48 Ukrainian Nazis opened fire on the village of Trudovskie on the outskirts of Donetsk. Artillery battles continue on the western front line. The Armed Forces of Ukraine tried to hit them with Tochki-U, but they were shot down by the forces of the People's Militia of the DPR. Now the Gorlovka-Yasinovataya highway is temporarily closed.
12:40 Ukrainian saboteurs from the national battalions are operating on the territory of the LPR, who are trying to destabilize the situation in the republic. They are focused on inflicting maximum damage and intimidating the population - the head of the LNR Leonid Pasechnik.
12:35 Kiev militants fired at two settlements in the LPR - Nizhnee Lozovoe and Logvinovo. They used 152 mm artillery and anti-tank missile systems. Information about the victims is being specified.
12:23 The Nazis in Mariupol used one and a half hundred civilians as human shields. They opened fire from behind the backs of the civilian population, as a result of which four people were killed and five wounded.
12:17 The forces of the People's Militia of the LPR have advanced six kilometers deep into the republic. They liberated the settlements of Smolyaninovo, Voevodovka, Kremennaya, Kudryashovka, Borovenki, Purdovka, Zamulovka from the Nazis.
12:10 The People's Militia of the DPR continues the operation to liberate Mariupol and Volnovakha from the Nazis. The militants place weapons in residential areas and fire from there, hiding behind civilians.
10:47 Over the past day, 14 settlements of the DPR were under fire from Ukrainian Nazis. They shelled the republic 30 times, using the Tochka-U tactical missile system, Grad rocket launchers, 152 and 122 mm artillery, as well as 120 and 82 mm mortars. Nine civilians were injured. Also, 36 residential buildings and 17 infrastructure facilities were damaged.
10:20 In the morning Ukrainian militants opened fire on Donetsk. The Kievsky district of the capital of the DPR again came under fire: the Armed Forces of Ukraine fired six shells with a caliber of 122 mm.
10:08 The forces of the People's Militia of the LPR have already liberated 67 settlements from the Nazis. They also help the defenders of the DPR and have taken control of several settlements in the neighboring republic.
09:30 Elimination of a fire at an oil depot in Lugansk. Several containers are currently on fire.
08:12 For 18 days of hostilities, 26 civilians of the DPR were killed, another 133 were injured of varying severity, the JCCC reported
08:08 Employees of the Ministry of State Security of the LPR detained agents of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, who were preparing terrorist attacks on the territory of the LPR and the Russian Federation. They were taken while transporting weapons and ammunition. It is reported that they were previously members of the “Right Sector” banned in the Russian Federation (banned in the Russian Federation) and that it was they who committed sabotage at the Rovenky oil depot.Video.
8:00 In Lugansk, an oil depot caught fire. According to preliminary information, the reason for this was the strike by the nationalists from the Tochka-U tactical missile system. Additional information about civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure is being specified, an official representative of the People's Militia of the LPR said.
Fifteen soldiers have died in an Islamic State group attack on an army bus in the central Syrian desert, a war monitor said, as state media reported a "terrorist attack".
Despite the fall of IS's "caliphate" in 2019, the group continues to launch deadly attacks from hideouts in the Syrian desert, which extends from the outskirts of the capital Damascus to the Iraqi border.
IS cells "attacked a military bus" in the Palmyra desert, "killing 15 soldiers and wounding 18 others", the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
State news agency SANA had reported 13 dead "including officers" and 18 wounded in a "terrorist attack" on a military bus on Sunday afternoon.
The Observatory, which relies on a network of sources across the country, said the death toll could rise as most of the soldiers were "seriously wounded".
IS did not immediately claim responsibility for the attack.

[REGNUM] Three settlements near the administrative border with the Zaporozhye region of Ukraine were taken under control by the military personnel of the People's Militia of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). This, according to the "Donetsk News Agency", said on March 7, the deputy head of the People's Militia Department of the DPR, Eduard Basurin , to journalists.
"Units of the People’s Militia of the DPR reached the border of the Zaporozhye region and established control over the settlements of Azov, Rozovka and Mirnoye," he said.
As REGNUM reported , on March 7, the representative office of the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire (JCCC) reported that the village of Molochny and Pervomaisk in the Donbass had been fired upon by Ukrainian security forces.
[AlAhram] La Belle France's army said Monday that its anti-jihadist force in Mali had killed Yahia Djouadi, a "big shot" of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) responsible for finance and logistics.
La Belle France's army said Monday that its anti-jihadist force in Mali had killed Yahia Djouadi, a "big shot" of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) responsible for finance and logistics.
Djouadi, an Algerian also known as Abu Ammar al-Jazairi, was killed overnight from February 25 to 26 around (160 kilometres (100 miles) north of Timbuktu in central Mali, the army said in a statement.
His death "once again weakens al-Qaeda's governance" in Mali, it added, calling him "a major link in northern Mali and especially the Timbuktu area" to the Qaeda-aligned GSIM group.
A former "emir" of al-Qaeda's Libyan operations, Djouadi fled to Mali in 2019 and settled in the Timbuktu region, helping organise the group and coordinating supplies, financing and logistics, the army said.
It added that he was killed by ground forces supported by a Tiger attack helicopter and two drones.
La Belle France is preparing to redeploy some 2,400 troops away from Mali to other countries in the Sahel region ... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas... facing cross-border jihadist insurgencies, after falling out with the military junta in Bamako.
While the pullout is set to stretch over six months, the army said that "operations continue against armed terrorist groups, especially against the top leaders of al-Qaeda, GSIM and the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara ...he succulent fruit of the union of splinter factions from Mokhtar Bekmokhtar'sal-Mourabitunes and MUJAO. Once the dust had settled and the smell of gunsmoke had dissipated, they became the Islamic State in Mali, then adopted their present clever name. They are headed by Adnan Abu Walid Saharaoui. It operates along the borders of Burkina Faso ...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other... , Niger, and Mali... (ISGS) group."
French forces first intervened in Mali in 2013, but disputes between Gay Paree and Bamako since a 2020 coup have prompted the military government to turn to other allies like Russia's Wagner paramilitary group.
Even with international allies on the ground, the Malian state has struggled to reassert control of territory from the jihadist insurgency that began in the country's north in 2012 and has since spread to neighbouring Niger and Burkina Faso.
The fighting has claimed thousands of lives and forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes.
La Belle France has said forces from its Operation Barkhane contingent killed a senior regional al-Qaeda leader in an overnight raid near Timbuktu last week. Meanwhile, ...back at the shootout, Butch clutched at his other leg...... two UN peacekeepers have died in an explosive attack.
On Monday, two members of the UN's Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) force were killed in a roadside kaboom when the vehicle they were traveling in hit an improvised bomb.
"This morning, a supply convoy ... struck an improvised bomb north of Mopti," MINUSMA front man Olivier Salgado wrote on Twitter. Four other peacekeepers were maimed in the attack.
The nationalities of those killed and injured in the attack were not immediately released.
FUTURE OF UN PEACEKEEPING MISSION IN DOUBT
Western nations participating in the international mission have said the shifting situation on the ground may in fact compromise the 13,000-strong contingent, the annual mandate of which must be renewed this June. As with the French deployment to Mali, UN troops have been on the ground in the Sahel since 2013 in an effort to halt the advance of Islamic fighters who began seriously challenging governments and civilians in the region in 2012.
MINUSMA troops have been heavily dependent upon French air and medical support throughout their mission. La Belle France's withdrawal from Mali, as well as the recent coup, has caused contributing nations such as Germany, Sweden and Denmark to rethink their commitment to it.
[LegalInsurrection] Democrat election lawyer Mark Elias predicted Democrats would try to keep Republicans off ballots using J6 as an excuse, and a North Carolina activist group took up the call. But a federal judge rejected the attempt.
With unpopular policies that drive inflation, laser focus on socio-cultural destruction that only a tiny (but vocal) portion of their own party cares about, and a hugely unpopular president and vice president, Democrats are giving up on winning elections at the polls and have turned to, among other tactics, trying to use their ridiculous faux hysteria about J6 to disqualify Republicans from running for office.
North Carolina Rep. Madison Cawthorn was targeted for such a move based on his speaking at a public event on January 6, 2021. The crazy left is attempting to argue that his giving a speech "amounted to an insurrection."
A judge just blocked this ridiculous attempt to block Cawthorn from running for office.
WRAL reports:
A federal judge Friday blocked an effort to keep U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn off North Carolina ballot this year, saying the state’s election board can’t proceed with an inquiry that would have delved his role leading up to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Chief District Court Judge Richard Myers said he couldn’t allow the challenge, filed by attorneys looking to label the first-term Republican as an insurrectionist who should be legally barred from the ballot, to move forward. The courts, Myers said, must protect the soapbox, the ballot box and the jury box.
"When those fail, that’s when people proceed to the ammunition box," said Myers, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump ...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party... The next step remains unclear. The North Carolina State Board of Elections could appeal Myers’ decision, but the legal team representing the board declined to say whether the board will do so. An elections board front man said the board was reviewing the court’s decision, which came down a bit before 12:30 p.m.
The New York Times
... which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize... has more in their article, "Judge Blocks Effort to Disqualify Cawthorn from Ballot as ’Insurrectionist’: A district judge ruled that the Amnesty Act of 1872, which forgave confederates, overruled a clause in the 14th Amendment barring ’insurrectionists’ from Congress."

One of the biggest mistakes the "right" ever made in this country was to back off of actively confronting people advocating communism (and "socialism" among those who wished to pretend they were kinder than communists).
Had we continued to pummel their ridiculous economic theories, we wouldn't be where we are today. Instead of continuing to confront they're nonsense, we were collectively "nice".
As a result, we're now at the point where the left can argue that we should cease the use of fossil fuels and replace them with the power of unicorn farts and its considered "rude" to argue that the people advocating such nonsense are intellectually stupid and insane.
The push to allow all sorts of madness to be given "equal footing" without pushback has lead us to the place where economic fraud, election fraud and legal fraud are treated as if they were all just "differences of opinion".

The the Wall came down there should have been a reckoning. Period.
As for the Bolsheviks who've taken over the former Donk party, they need to be reminded of the three boxes. Soap box, ballot box, ammo box. Look at the Ukrainian citizens are doing to the Russian Army. You are demoralizing the one we had that was somewhat tactically effective and placing 'politically correct' rather than effective people in charge. That is what you are going to send against Americans? Cause your virtual world is going to change real quick.

It's "foot in the door." The same people screeching about any efforts to de-certify the 2020 election will be having spontaneous orgasms if they judge shop this into a friendly court say halfway through Cawthorn's next term.

...I believe SCOTUS Roberts established a precedent when he told Trump that his appeal was 'overcome by events'. Of course, our imperial judiciary has a habit of flip flopping depending upon the applicant.
[The Hill] Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin over the weekend ordered more U.S. troops and military equipment sent to Europe as Russia presses its attack on Ukraine, a senior defense official said Monday.
Austin ordered roughly 500 additional troops to Poland, Romania and Germany "to respond to the current security environment in light of Russia's renewed aggression against Ukraine" and to bolster NATO’s eastern flank, the official told reporters.
They stressed President Biden's assertion that no American troops will be sent to Ukraine and that the additional forces are "enablers" going to NATO allies "to shore up capabilities that are already there."
As part of the new deployment, KC-135 refueling aircraft will be sent to Greece, though it was unclear how many aircraft would be sent or where they would come from.
Additionally, an air support operation center will be deployed to Poland and Romania, and an ordinance company and a maintenance company will be sent to Germany for "additional logistic support to the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division" already deployed there, the official said.
They could not provide a breakdown of how many troops will go where and would not rule out more forces being sent later.
The U.S. military now has about 100,000 personnel stationed in Europe on either a rotational or a permanent basis as Russia’s violent incursion into Ukraine comes up on its two-week mark.
We have no business there in even the best of times.
Now we're facing crisis after crisis at home. Our economy is collapsing and Democrats on the 1/6 Committee are about to call for Trump's arrest on charges of "sedition."
Why the FUCK are we doing this?
Is it to distract us from the fires engulfing us at home? If so, then we need to get rid of these seditious lunatics in Washington -- by whatever means available
(Bloomberg) -- As equity markets sink around the world, Morgan Stanley and Citigroup Inc. strategists say a perfect storm looks to be gathering.
“Downside risk remains most acute over the next 6-8 weeks,” Morgan Stanley’s Michael Wilson wrote in a note to clients. “We are firmly in the grasp of a bear market that is incomplete in both time and price.”
Separately, Citi strategists led by Jamie Fahy said a global gauge tracking analyst estimates on corporate profits has turned negative for the first time since September 2020. This is a potential “game-changer,” eroding their conviction on the prospects of risk assets, they wrote.
Earnings delivery is “paramount” at a time when liquidity is being sucked out by central banks across the world, the Citi strategists said.
Fear: economies are heading to a stagflationary shock. Several major benchmark gauges across Europe have dropped more than 20% from their recent highs, while the S&P 500 is hovering around a 10% correction. With gas and oil prices soaring, Citi and Morgan Stanley strategists say “demand destruction” may now be unavoidable. Optimists are wavering: "Any relief should be sold,” said Wilson.

Everything happening at home is engineered, and could be quickly reversed, as The Donald demonstrated in 2017.
Which means none of those things are crises at all. Take control of both Houses of Congress away from the Democrats in November — preferentially with veto-proof majorities — and keep a close watch on our Republican congresscritters to ensure they don’t get overexcited about spending, and we’ll be at least ok within six months to a year.
Shit is so fake that the minute an outsider took office we got cheap gas, cheap food, became energy independent, no wars and focused on our country’s own issues.
Establishment hacks get back in and we have inflation, medical tyranny, world war 3, need to take a mortgage for gas.
ordered more U.S. troops and military equipment sent to Europe
Which begs the question; who profits most from this sort of ineffective force projection? Sending millions of dollars of equipment, deploying expensive hardware hastily contracted for contingents, then... usually, leaving it there.

[CNBC] 2nd in command of Russian 41st Army is getting to be as hazardous as 3rd in command of Al Qaeda.
Ukraine’s defense intelligence agency claimed that Russian Army Major General Vitaly Gerasimov was killed, and other senior Russian Army officers "were also killed or wounded" near Kharkiv.
Gerasimov was identified by the intelligence agency as the chief of staff and first deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army.
The agency claimed that data obtained related to his death "show significant problems with communication" in Russia’s army, "and with the evacuation of their defeated units."
Russian President Vladimir Putin last week confirmed the death of another army general, Andrei Sukhovetsky.

They know they killed him because their comms were not up to the job of calling back to base so they used a cell phone to call his boss. Remember the Ukrainian hackers got the cellular phone numbers and other info for every single Russian in the Russian military. Ukraine even published both phone numbers (caller and callee) who were involve in the death report and the time and duration of the call.

Who when president successfully avoided letting the US get dragged into stupid wars over first Hungary and then Britain and France's Suez fiasco. Which led to the collapse of their empires within just 4 years.
Now we're the shitheads who are destroying our own empire. Hard to believe our own idiots are not trying to bring America down. No pro-American leader could be so fucking stupid

It would be a shame if they assassinated one of the inept ones that got their armored columns stuck.
[IsraelTimes] Two coppers were moderately hurt in a stabbing attack in Jerusalem’s Old City on Monday evening, police and medics said.
In a statement, police said an assailant attacked the two officers near an entrance to the Temple Mount, and they responded with gunfire.
The Magen David Adom ambulance service said the two men in their 20s were treated at the scene and then taken to the Shaare Zedek and Hadassah Mount Scopus hospitals in the city.
The alleged Paleostinian assailant died of his wounds after being shot, a police spokesperson confirmed to The Times of Israel.
Meanwhile, back home in Russia: an answer to the claim made here yesterday evening in comments that The people of Russia wouldn't support this evil invasion if they knew reality. An interesting thread — worth scrolling down. I’d love our Russian visitors to share their thoughts about it all.
Let's discuss what's happening in Russia. To put it simply, it's going full fascist. They will soon need to be rounding up people who don't think the US should go to war.
It's starting. First step: social media giants flagging users as "spreading pro-Russian" views. Second step: College kids are now reporting they're afraid to say anything that in any way goes against the War Party's narratives.
Next will be forced participation in employers' virtue-signaling theatrics. And then the FBI cracking down on dissent. Think of Woodrow Wilson and the Palmer Raids -- with all the coercive power and surveillance capabilities of the modern digital police state

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, unknown individuals targeted a military vehicle of the Syrian government forces with an IED in the eastern countryside of Daraa, southern Syria.
A military vehicle affiliated with the Brigade 52 of the government forces was targeted with an IED planted by unknown persons on the road between al-Hirak and Soura towns, east of Daraa, an eyewitness said.
The vehicle was delivering food to the military points of the government forces in the area, and 5 members were in, the eyewitness added.
The targeting did not result in human casualties, according to the eyewitness.
Assassinations dominate the scene in Syria’s southern governorate of Daraa, most of which are filed against unknown persons and they target former members of the opposition factions and those who have been subject to settlement agreements.
Despite the entire control of the Syrian government on Daraa and the reconciliation it made with the residents, the governorate witnesses unrest and security chaos where arrests, assassinations, and killings have sharply increased.

Northrop Grumman now has six of the stealthy, next-generation aircraft in various stages of production, Darlene Costello, principal deputy assistant secretary of the Air Force for acquisition, technology and logistics, said in a Friday roundtable with reporters at the Air Force Association’s Air Warfare Symposium in Orlando, Florida.
Tom Jones, Northrop’s Aeronautics Systems president, also confirmed in a statement that the first Raider is now undergoing ground tests.
Costello said that with the start of testing on that B-21, "we are on track for first flight [and] we’re holding to our schedule." She would not go into further detail on plans for the B-21.
In another roundtable with reporters at the conference, Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall said he’s satisfied with the B-21′s progress so far.
"At least at this stage of the game, the B-21′s moving forward really well," Kendall said.
During the ground test phase at Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, California, where Northrop is building the B-21, testers will turn the B-21′s power on, test its subsystems, test its structural integrity, and apply coatings and paint.
The next step will involve getting the B-21 ready for flight. This includes carrying out engine runs as well as low-speed and then high-speed taxiing.
After that, the actual first flight from Plant 42 to Edwards Air Force Base in California will take place. Formal flight testing will be held at Edwards.
[AlAhram] Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... 's Iran's Houthi sock puppets ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him... rebels launched at least one missile into the busy waters of Red Sea over the weekend, the US Navy said Monday, raising the risks of their fire striking one of the many commercial vessels using a waterway crucial to global shipping.
The Red Sea connects into the Suez Canal, which sends cargo and energy shipments from the wider Mideast onto Europe. Since seizing Yemen's capital in September 2014, the Houthis have launched missiles, deployed bomb-laden drone boats and released mines into the Red Sea.
The missile fire took place Saturday in the Red Sea, the Navy said.
``Although maritime traffic was not impacted in this instance, these actions are destabilizing and present a danger to all vessels transiting a critical international waterway,'' said Cmdr. Timothy Hawkins, a front man for the Navy's Mideast-based 5th Fleet.
Spokesmen for the Iranian-backed Houthis did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Saudi Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century... , which has led a coalition battling the Houthis since March 2015 and has a coastline stretching some 1,760 kilometers (1,100 miles) along the Red Sea, also did not respond to requests for comment.
Houthi missile fire in the Red Sea has come near an American warship before. In October 2016, the US Navy said the USS Mason came under fire from two missiles launched out of Yemen. Neither reached the warship, though the US retaliated with Tomahawk cruise missile strikes on three coastal radar sites in Houthi-controlled territory on Yemen's Red Sea coast.
The week before, the Emirati vessel SWIFT-1 came under Houthi missile attack. The Emirati government asserted the SWIFT-1 at the time carried humanitarian aid; UN experts later said of the claim that they were ``unconvinced of its veracity.'' The vessel had been sailing back and forth in the Red Sea between an Emirati troop base in Eritrea ...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age... and Yemen.
In April 2021, an Iranian fat merchantman that is said to serve as a floating base for Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard forces came under attack in the Red Sea likely part of a wider shadow war between Israel and Tehran.
More recently in January, the Houthis seized the Emirati-flagged ship Rwabee in the Red Sea off Yemen. The Saudi-led coalition asserted the ship carried medical equipment from a dismantled Saudi field hospital. The Houthis released video showing military-style inflatable rafts, trucks and other vehicles on the vessel, as well as rifles.

[Insider] James Stavridis, a former NATO supreme allied commander, said on Sunday that President Vladimir Putin "may be the best thing that ever happened" to NATO, explaining that the Russian leader's invasion of Ukraine had prompted the West to bolster its defenses.
In an interview with MSNBC's Jonathan Capehart, Stavridis, who served as a NATO commander from 2009 to 2013, cited Germany's boost in defense spending, announced days after Putin declared an assault on Ukraine.
"I spent four years as supreme allied commander of NATO. At every conference, every meeting of high-level NATO officials, I would find my way to Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and the minister of defense, Ursula von der Leyen," Stavridis said. "And I would say to them, 'You've got to raise your defense spending.' And I got nowhere in four years.
Predating President Trump, one notes, but saying the same thing.
"In 48 hours, Vladimir Putin has inspired the Germans to effectively nearly double their defense budget — a smart move on the part of Germans," Stavridis continued.
"Vladimir Putin may be the best thing that ever happened to the NATO alliance," he told Capehart.
Germany, Europe's largest economy, announced on February 27 that it would create a special one-off fund of 100 billion euros for military spending. Chancellor Olaf Scholz also said the country's year-on-year defense budget moving forward would be more than 2% of its GDP, reversing a recent decline in military spending.
Scholz said the extra funds were to bolster Germany's own security and to fulfill its NATO obligations.
Stavridis told The New York Times on Friday that the established global system was like a battered car that "could use a good tuneup."

[IsraelTimes] 3 men, 1 minor charged with throwing Molotov cocktails at residence of Tal Yushuvayev, sparking festivities in contentious East Jerusalem neighborhood
Prosecutors on Monday indicted four Paleostinians from East Jerusalem, including a minor, for the alleged Molotov cocktailing of a Jewish home in Sheikh Jarrah last month.
The Jerusalem District Prosecutor’s Office requested that the group be kept in jug until the end of the legal proceedings against them.
The suspects were arrested in the days following the attack on Tal Yushuvayev’s home, which sparked festivities in the flashpoint neighborhood after far-right MK Itamar Ben Gvir opened a makeshift office at the scene.
According to the indictment, Mu’taz Haj Mahmoud, Balal Jabari, Jamal Husseini and an unnamed minor prepared Molotov cocktails and threw them at Yushuvayev’s residence.
No injuries were reported in the fire. However, some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves... the house was badly damaged and police said an officer was lightly hurt from smoke inhalation after entering the home.
The indictment further alleges that the four were involved in additional arson attempts in the months preceding the incident.
In November, according to the indictment, the three tried to set fire to the same house, and in December, two of them set fire to and totally burned the Yushuvayev family’s vehicle.
In addition, in January, one of the defendants, along with another person, threw Molotov cocktails at the Yushuvayev family home, causing damage to property.
According to the indictment, they also took part in festivities in the neighborhood, during which they threw stones at Jews and fireworks at security forces.
The defendants are charged with a range of offenses, including arson, racially motivated malicious harm, terrorism, aggravated sabotage, using weapons for terroristic purposes, and attempted assault on a police officer.

[KavkazUzel] A court in Makhachkala gave a local resident a two-year suspended sentence, finding him guilty of participating in a religious extremist organization, the Dagestan FSB reported.
Here’s hoping they can keep track of him going forward, against his next big adventure.
The court and the investigation established that the native of Makhachkala was a member of a cell of the At-Takfir Val-Hijra religious extremist organization banned by the court in Dagestan, took part in the meetings of its adherents and called for the overthrow of the constitutional order in Russia.
The At Takfir wal Hijra movement has existed since 1971. Its leader was the Upper Egyptian agronomist Shukri Mustafa (1942-1978).
Originally Muslim Brotherhood, he joined Sayyid Qutb in splitting off to pursue violent jihad. After Shukri Mustafa was executed, the group split again, the more moderate faction following Ayman Al-Zawahiri, who subsequently became Al Qaeda’s second in command. Takfir wal Hijra has cells all over the place — Ukraine reported arresting three Crimean turbans in 2009, and a larger cell was tied up in Moscow in 2013.
The creators of the movement came to the conclusion that the Egyptian society no longer corresponds to Islam, so in 1973 the Takfirists left for the sparsely populated foothill regions of Egypt.
In 1976, the size of the group (they called themselves Jamaat al-muslimin - "community of Muslims", considering the rest infidels) was several thousand people. In 1977, members of the movement took hostage the former Minister for Religious Affairs of the Egyptian government, Muhammad al-Dhahabi. Shukri Mustafa was arrested in 1977 and executed in 1978, RIA Novosti informs. The activity of the international religious association "At Takfir wal-Hijra" (Atonement and Exodus) is prohibited in Russia decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of September 15, 2010.
Smart move, Russia.
The Leninsky District Court of Makhachkala found him guilty of participating in a religious extremist organization (Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), RIA "Dagestan" cited a message from the press service of the FSB for the republic today.
"The court sentenced him to a two-year suspended sentence with a one-year probationary period," the agency said.
Note that the maximum penalty under this article is six years in prison.
The verdict has already entered into force, the report says.
The "Caucasian Knot" does not yet have any comments from the local resident or his representatives regarding the decision of the court.
[METRO] Russians ‘to be disconnected from global internet from Friday’
An unverified tweet has been making waves, claiming the country will remove itself from the international online community on March 11.
A post from Belarus-based media outfit Nexta, has made the claim, suggesting that all companies wanting to keep an online presence there will need to shift to domestic servers.
‘Russia began active preparations for disconnection from the global Internet,’ the tweet reads.
‘No later than March 11, all servers and domains must be transferred to the Russian zone. In addition, detailed data on the network infrastructure of the sites is being collected.’

In addition, detailed data on the network infrastructure of the sites is being collected. pic.twitter.com/wOCdRqOJej— NEXTA (@nexta_tv) March 6, 2022
The claim has made the rounds on social media, with another account claiming it is in preparation for cyber attacks against the US.
‘Russia will disconnect from external internet starting March 11,’ posted an unverified Twitter user with the username Black Swan.
‘All companies in Russia are required to get on a ‘.ru. address and Russian domestic server. Business have 5 days to comply. Cyber attacks on US inbound…’
BREAKING: RUSSIA WILL DISCONNECT FROM EXTERNAL INTERNET STARTING MARCH 11. ALL COMPANIES IN RUSSIA ARE REQUIRED TO GET ON A “.RU” ADDRESS AND RUSSIAN DOMESTIC SERVER. BUSINESS HAVE 5 DAYS TO COMPLY. Cyber attacks on US inbound…— Black Swan (@RetirementRight) March 7, 2022
Is it likely to happen? As ever, the answer is murky.
A report by the Russian daily Kommersant seems to contradict the claim, saying the Ministry of Digital Development has denied a government move to block Russian access to the internet.
So while Putin could have called to block Russia from the web, it may not come to pass.
Kommersant said that the ‘order’ is now only limited to the government websites and has been taken to prepare the country’s internet infrastructure against any external disconnection and cyber threats.
‘We are preparing for various scenarios to ensure that Russian resources are available to citizens,’ the Ministry said [translated from Russian].
‘The telegram for government agencies outlines a set of simple cyber hygiene recommendations that will help to organize work more effectively to protect our resources from malicious traffic, keep services running and control over domain names,’
Whether or not the March 11 claim is true, it’s well known in tech circles that Russia has been working on its own internal internet for several years.
In 2018, the country brought in the Digital Economy National Program which aims to protect the country’s online infrastructure even if other countries were able to cut it off.
Then, a year later in 2019, Russia’s Ministry of Communications announced it successfully tested a countrywide alternative to the internet.
The government said that regular Russian browsers didn’t notice any changes to their typical web usage while the domestic web was in place.
‘Sadly, the Russian direction of travel is just another step in the increasing breaking-up of the internet,’ Prof Alan Woodward, a computer scientist at the University of Surrey, told the BBC at the time.
‘Increasingly, authoritarian countries which want to control what citizens see are looking at what Iran and China have already done.’
‘It means people will not have access to dialogue about what is going on in their own country, they will be kept within their own bubble.’
‘The calls to increase pressure on our country being made in the West oblige us to think about additional ways to protect Russian sovereignty in cyberspace,’ said Leonid Levin, the chairman of a Russian committee on information technology, also in 2019.
Russia adopted legislation, known as the ‘sovereign internet’ law, in late 2019 that seeks to shield the country from being cut off from foreign infrastructure, in answer to what Russia called the ‘aggressive nature’ of the United States’ national cyber security strategy.

I'd read long ago that Russia/Iran/North Korea and others were working on their own alternate internet, one they could police and censor. I wonder if anything ever became of that.
No fewer than 26 people have reportedly been killed and many others injured by suspected armed herders at Tor-Damisa community in the Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.
It was learnt that the people killed in the attack included children and women.
According to Punch, the attack, which happened in the early hours of Monday, has left hundreds of houses burnt while properties worth millions of naira were also destroyed.
The attack was said to be a reprisal attack after a Fulani man in the area was allegedly shot in the leg by a suspected Tiv farmer, who is currently receiving treatment and in police custody.
The village head of the community, Zaki Ugondo Uma, who said that more bodies were still being recovered, explained that there was a little misunderstanding between Fulani herders and some Tiv farmers in the community and that he made frantic efforts with the Fulani leaders to restore normalcy.
He said, "Some farmers had an issue with Fulani herders, but we reached a truce and they assured us of peace. I am taken aback as we woke up this morning to witness a massive attack on our community affecting over 15 villages.
"As I am talking, we are yet to recover all bodies, but more than 26 corpses have been recovered. We are in a situation of despair as we don’t know if the attack will continue.
"I am calling on the state to provide security and as well intervene with relied materials for thousands that have been rendered homeless," Uma added.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Taraba State Command, ASP Usman Abubakar, noted that the command was aware of the incident but was yet to ascertain the cause of the crisis and the number of casualties.
[Dawn] The head of Sri Lanka’s Roman Catholic Church on Monday urged the United Nations ...the Oyster Bay money pit... to investigate the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings that killed 279 people, calling the massacre a "political plot".
The original events transpired before our eyes here. The miscreants were associated with two ISIS-associated groups: National Thowheeth Jama’ath (NTJ) (also spelt Sri Lanka Thawheed Jamaat, Tawheed Jamaath and Thowfeek Jamaath), which had not only pledged allegiance, but had gotten training from ISIS experts, and Jamathei Millathu Ibrahim (JMI).
In an address to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith demanded a mechanism to probe the attacks, which have been blamed on local Islamic radicals.
"The first impression of this massacre was that it was purely the work of a few Islamic krazed killers," Ranjith said. "However, facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable... subsequent investigations indicate that this massacre was part of a grand political plot."
The Church has previously suggested that the attacks, which targeted three churches and three hotels in Colombo in April 2019, helped Gotabaya Rajapaksa win the presidential elections in November the same year.
The government has not responded to the Church’s accusations.
Ranjith, who initially supported Rajapaksa’s election as president, said there were attempts by the government "to harass and intimidate those who clamour for justice".
Catholic priests have been summoned and questioned at length by the Criminal Investigations Department over statements critical of the slow progress in investigations. "Nearly three years after the horrendous crime, we are still in the dark as to what really happened on that Easter Sunday," the cardinal said.
His address to the UN Council came a week after meeting with the pope.
Sri Lanka is on the agenda of the UN’s top rights body at the moment for a separate reason.

Bastards. Srilanka security forces have been hard on both islamics and Catholics and their camraderie has not gone unnoticed in the island nation. The politicians have acquired strong local support against the islamic organization ACJU, and there are cases of land grabbing and encroachment on the catholic diocese already, so first they conspire together to trick the laity into 'forgiving the muslims', then they ask for this. The UN, that prized litigator for islamics around the world. Who are they going to probe, the UN? Survivors who saw the islamic blow himself up? The police, who picked up the pieces? The islamics themselves who'll say the man was either a saint or a mentally unstable person? Is a UN investigation any more credible than a nation's own investigative agency's?
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has killed several militants of the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) with airstrikes from two of the newly acquired A-29 Super Tucano Jets in Borno State.
It was gathered that the NAF component of Operation Hadin Kai launched a series of attacks on Monday at the terrorists’ hideout in Dooma village, Kaga Local Government Area.
The operation was conducted around noon after Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, revealed the location of the ISWAP members.
The ground assessment from the spots of the air interdiction indicated that scores of the terrorists were killed in the process.
Since the death of JAS leader, Abubakar Shekau, ISWAP has been consolidating its grip in locations around Lake Chad.
In 2021, it appointed Wali Sani Shuwaram, a 45-year-old as the new Leader (Wali) of ISWAP in Lake Chad.
The sect’s membership has swollen with the defection of hundreds of Boko Haram fighters under Shekau.
The terror group has caused over 100,000 deaths and displaced millions of individuals mainly in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states.
