[PJMedia] In a surprise reversal, Twitter top dog Parag Agrawal tweeted Sunday night that gazillionaire and free speech advocate Elon Musk would not be joining Twitter’s board of directors after all. While at first glance this appears to signal that Musk will not be able to turn the social media giant away from its determination to silence voices that dissent from the far-Left’s agenda, it could turn out to be very good news for those who are concerned about the social media behemoths’ outsize influence over the public discourse in America today.
Agrawal announced: "Elon has decided not to join our board. I sent a brief note to the company, sharing with you all here." In the appended note, Agrawal wrote: "Here’s what I can share about what happened," suggesting immediately that what happened was far more fiery and dramatic than what he was letting on. "The Board and I had many discussions about Elon joining the board, and with Elon directly," Agrawal continued. "We were excited to collaborate and clear about the risks. We also believed that having Elon as a fiduciary of the company where he, like all board members, has to act in the best interests of the company and all our shareholders, was the best path forward. The board offered him a seat." Clearly Agrawal and the other Twitter bosses thought that a seat on the board would constrain Musk: he would have to "act in the best interests of the company." The Lilliputians would have had Gulliver effectively tied down. But no such luck.

"Twitter top dog Parag Agrawal" , all you need to know about what needs to change. Just read his latest comments on the first amendment to see what a subversive agent of a foreign power thinks.

By not joining the board, Musk is not limited to owning a maximum 14.5% stake.

Raj, IIRC if he were a board member, he would be limited to some small percentage of stock - somewhere around 14-15% IIRC.
So maybe his secret goal is to slowly work up to 50.1% of stock. Then he can really clean house.

Why would he exceed the 10% threshold? That would be stupid and end up putting him in prison, given his own chant for saying stupid shit about his stock trades on, uh, Twitter.
10% makes you a Qualified Investor. Much more stringent 13G disclosure rules than if you stay under 10%: once a year (by Valentine' Day, heh) instead of every month:
"Currently, Qualified Institutional Investors who beneficially own up to 10% of the relevant class are only required to file a Schedule 13G by February 14 of the year that follows the triggering event. If, as of the end of any month, a Qualified Institutional Investor’s beneficial ownership exceeds 10%, it is required to file within 10 calendar days of the end of such month.

If Musk is on Twitter's board, he has a fiduciary duty to the company, which can make things like disparaging remarks problematic. If he's not, then his duty is to his own investors, which might be just himself if he's using his own capital.

Only a couple people have asked me if I was going to sign up for Trump's social media platform. No, I told them, I'm not interested in social media regardless of who's fronting it.
Most of what I've read so far (what little is being said) says it's off to a s l o w start.

Twitter used to be a good thing in this world.
Tweetdeck was the only reason I chose twitter. All other platforms with no columns like this are crap. Faceburg is by far the shittiest platform known to man yet everyone copies them.
If I cannot stream information without a mouse, your platform sucks ass.I want everything a vertical stock ticker so to speak. Otherwise, it is a waste of your time.
The left destroys everything.
In either case with Musk, I appreciate him and I AM Entertained!
[CNBC] WASHINGTON — A Ukrainian delegation warned U.S. officials in Washington this week that security assistance packages are not arriving quick enough in the besieged country, a plea that comes amid Western security claims that the Kremlin will soon intensify its military campaign.
Over the past week, the delegation of Ukrainian civil society advocates, military veterans and former government officials met with 45 lawmakers, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, officials at the departments of State and Defense and the National Security Council at the White House.
"It’s the 44th day of the war that we were supposed to lose on the third day," began Daria Kaleniuk, who runs Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Action Center, a national organization that assists Ukraine’s parliament and prosecutor’s office.
"What we need now is to arm our military and our territorial defense units to be able to prevent more graves in the backyards of innocent people," she said on Friday.
Kaleniuk added that U.S. lawmakers and Biden administration officials outlined a number of justifications for why certain weapons systems cannot be delivered, citing logistics issues, lack of inventory and bureaucratic limitations.
"The six-year-old boy who is visiting his mother’s grave in his backyard does not want to hear about bureaucracy as an excuse for not delivering weapons to Ukraine," Kaleniuk said.
"This is an extraordinary situation where extraordinary measures have to be done. Lift your bureaucracy, lift it now. The president of the United States has huge power, Congress has huge power. We know it’s possible," she added.
Earlier in the week, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba also made a plea to NATO allies to catalyze the delivery of their arms commitments.
"Either you help us now, and I’m speaking about days not weeks, or your help will come too late," Kuleba told reporters at NATO’s headquarters on April 7.
"I have no doubt that Ukraine will have the weapons necessary to fight. The question is the timeline. This discussion is not about the list of weapons. The discussion is about the timeline when do we get them and this is crucial," he said, adding "people are dying today, the offensive is unfolding today."
When asked about Kuleba’s comments, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken downplayed concerns that allies were withholding weapons explicitly requested by Ukraine.
"They’re coming forward with new systems that they think would be helpful and effective," Blinken said from NATO’s headquarters.
"We put our own expertise to bear, especially the Pentagon to help determine what indeed we think could be effective. What Ukrainians will be ready to use as soon as they get it, and what we actually have access to and can get to them in real-time," he said, adding that the U.S. is working expeditiously to get appropriate weapons to Ukraine.
Blinken’s comments echo those of U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff U.S. Army Gen. Mark Milley. Austin and Milley told lawmakers last week that some weapons systems on Ukraine’s wish list require months of training in order to operate.
This was another piece linked to at FR by Zhang Fei, who wrote the following in the comments: Ukraine ping
During the Yom Kippur War, Nixon ordered direct airlifts of late model weaponry from US stocks in Europe to Israel, and raised the readiness level of US nuclear forces to DEFCON 3, in response to the possibility of Russian intervention:
Whereas currently, Moscow Joe is slow-walking the aid. Ukrainians are fighting a high-intensity war with a major power, and Moscow Joe is allocating aid to be provided at leisure. Meanwhile, we funded the Afghans lavishly to fight a two-bit enemy (the Taliban) engaged in desultory guerilla warfare that killed maybe a thousand combatants on both sides a month. The Ukrainians have killed over 15,000 Russians in a month. That takes a lot of ammo and equipment which gets used up or destroyed by the enemy. Modern warfare isn’t like its ancient counterpart - the weapons aren’t swords and spears that merely have to be cleaned off and sharpened to get more use out of them.
Moscow Joe was paid by Putin through Burisma, which is owned by one of Putin’s cronies, Zlochevsky, who left Ukraine along with Putin’s puppet, Yanukovich, after the Maidan Revolution.
I gotta hand it to Putin - he might not be the greatest war planner, but he made sure Trump was up to his eyeballs in alligators for the entire length of his tenure. Igor Danchenko, the guy who was arrested over his role in fabricating the Steele dossier, is Russian. He appears to be a Russian agent planted by Putin inside the Democratic party.
One of the ways you discredit your enemy is by planting evidence that suggests he is your paid agent. That was Danchenko’s assignment within the Democratic party - to help stick it to Trump.

Giving billions in gold to appease an enemy actually did work brilliantly in one place in recent years: Chechnya. Worked brilliantly, in fact. With piles of gold (literally), Russia turned Kadyrov from an implacable enemy into a staunch ally. Every man has his price.

I'd say you're deliberately misunderstanding what I'm saying, but you're probably just lying through your teeth.
I'm upset that Joseph Robinette Biden, of the Burisma Payroll, always seems to "accidentally" make decisions that involve turning over huge amounts of our economy to Putin and his allies, and for a much longer time than when Putin went to war (again) in Ukraine.
If y'all weren't fake ass pretend populists y'all might have actually managed to scrape up some energy to be upset about that. But you don't, and it says a lot.
I think we've had this conversation before under a different 'nym for you.

Which English? I was reared bilingual English and American, where both dialects of the language were my parents’ — and many of their friends’ — Nth language. Mama learnt English at Oxford University’s private high school after the war in Holland, then emigrated to New York City for university. That was after her native German, Dutch, and French. Her favourite cousin was proud to speak English with an Oxford accent, her French from the Sorbonne, and naturally the family spoke Hochdeutsch with a Hildesheim accent, the purest of the pure, while Mama’s English is deliberately Standard American and her French picked up in Geneva while she was at medical school escaping the matchmaking efforts of her mother and her first mother-in-law, both very managing women. Mama found the Flemish I learnt in Brussels highly amusing, but the Dutch look down on the Flems as ignorant hillbillies.
Daddy polished his English while serving as a Russian translator for the Hindi regiment stationed in Iran during the war, which was layered on top of his four mother tongues of Russian, Latvian, German, and Yiddish — typical of his peers in his birthplace — classical Latin and Greek, Hebrew, and enough Arabic and Farsi to get by on the street. He was nearly forty before he arrived in America, and his attempts at strong language sounded like he was working from memorized conjugation tables.
And after living in a variety of places, my second person plural is as likely to be you guys, y’all, or you lot, depending on the last person I spoke with or the last thing I read. And as a sheltered child of an ivory tower, I rely on Mr. Wife and the good people here to translate all sorts of American vocabulary I hadn’t previously encountered.

And, of course, the argument about language deftly deflected away from the Truth They Do Not Want To Acknowledge: that Biden's actions are intentionally helpful to Putin.

Individual one (Saying Snootily): Where I come from we don't end a sentence with a preposition.
In German, the prepositions that end sentences are really separable verbs. As it happens, very often it’s the same in English, which Indiv.#1 is ignorant of — an inheritance from English being at root a Germanic language.
;-) A number here, including our badanov, trained as journalists, with a hefty dose of grammatical training. Which makes their deliberate use of the colloquial idiom even more amusing to a certain kind of mind.
Asseverated.
A new word for me — thank you! (For several semesters in a row there were never enough of us to justify a beginning class in Russian at my university, so I finally gave up and took Hebrew again. So I don’t know how to say it in Russian. Sorry.)

$9B in a $1.5T bill isn't much.
I'm pretty sure there are other earmarks that weren't counted.
But this was only the omnibus appropriations act. In the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passed in Nov 2021, which was a $700B bill, had hundreds of earmarks also.

[JustTheNews] Legislation announced after Biden administration decided to terminate Title 42 restrictions on illegal migrants.
Rep. Bill Posey, R-Fla., has filed a bill that would give states a greater ability to enforce immigration laws when the federal government fails to do so.
Posey and Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody announced his bill, the Immigration and Enforcement Partnership Act of 2022, after the Biden administration decided to terminate Title 42, a federal public health rule used during national public health emergencies.
Moody has sued the administration several times for violating immigration law.
So long as Joe Biden is in the White House, this is merely theater until the Republicans get veto-proof majorities in both Houses of Congress — though a useful demonstration to the voters of a key difference between Democrats and Republicans. The lawsuits have a better chance of success.
“Maintaining operational control over our nation's borders is critical to our security and our ability to stop human traffickers, drug smugglers and other violent criminals and terrorists who mean to do our communities harm,” Posey said. “When the federal government abdicates its role in protecting our nation’s borders and refuses to enforce immigration laws allowing millions of people to illegally cross into our country, states should have authority to protect their citizens.”
HR 7413 would allow state officials to require the DHS secretary to enforce federal immigration law in certain circumstances. It gives DHS the option to enforce the law or deputize state officials to carry out federal immigration duties instead.
According to the bill, state attorneys general would identify how DHS isn’t fulfilling its non-discretionary duties under Title II of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which includes arresting, detaining and removing criminal and arriving illegal immigrants. It also requires the courts to expedite proceedings related to these actions to the greatest extent practicable, according to a summary of the bill.
“In less than a year and a half, the Biden administration has obliterated our southwest border and it’s about to get even worse as the president prepares to end Title 42,” Moody said in a statement. “We can no longer trust this administration to enforce the law. It is time for swift action to protect the American people. That is why Representative Posey and I are taking this matter to Congress and asking the legislative branch to let the states protect our citizens by enforcing public-safety immigration laws when Biden won’t.”
In President Joe Biden’s first year in office, after he implemented an open border policy, more than two million people from over 150 countries were encountered or apprehended by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents entering the U.S. illegally. This number excludes an estimated several hundred thousand that evaded law enforcement.
Title 42 has been viewed as the last measure holding back the floodgates of people entering the U.S. illegally through the southern border after the Biden administration instituted sweeping immigration changes, prompting multiple lawsuits by several states and groups, including Florida. When Title 42 expires May 24, an estimated 18,000 people a day are expected to enter the U.S. illegally, border agents say. Both Democrats and Republicans have called on the Biden administration to follow immigration law and not end Title 42, to no avail.
Even though Title 42 enables Customs and Border Patrol agents to quickly refuse entry or deport illegal immigrants, due to new Department of Homeland Security policies instituted by DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, deportations were down by 70% last year, according to CBP data. Under new guidance issued by Mayorkas, CBP agents are limited in their ability to enforce federal immigration law.
Illegal immigration costs Florida taxpayers more than $100 million a year, Posey and Moody said.
“The cost to public safety is harder to calculate as the nation struggles with a deadly opioid crisis claiming 21 lives a day in Florida,” they said in a joint statement.
Posey and Moody are concerned that the federal government’s “seeming disinterest with enforcing immigration laws will exacerbate the opioid crisis and leave the door open for unmitigated drug and human trafficking.
“The crisis is being exacerbated by fentanyl, a synthetic opioid 100 times stronger than morphine,” they argued in a joint statement. “According to CBP, since Biden took office, the amount of fentanyl seized at the border is enough to kill every man, woman and child in the nation more than seven times over.”
With Mexico being the number one source of fentanyl imports into the U.S., it’s imperative that states be able to enforce federal immigration law when the federal government won’t, Posey and Moody argue.

^ Correct. It began with appointment of ideological Police Chiefs (AA hires) and then ideological DAs elected via Soros. By the time we all became aware, it was too late - the system was in place. Now comes the very hard work of dismantling to the best our ability. It will only ever be partially successful.

[FoxNews] If you aren’t a senior, but still experiencing ‘senior moments,’ you are in good company, according to recent Wall Street Journal report.
"Our brains are like computers with so many tabs open right now," said Dr. Sara C. Mednick, a neuroscientist and professor of cognitive science at the University of California, Irvine.
"This slows down our processing power, and memory is one of the areas that falters."
‘Senior moments,’ otherwise known as fleeting bursts of forgetfulness, are becoming more commonplace, according to memory experts.
Sometimes we might find ourselves struggling to remember the name of our friends, co-workers, words that usually roll off our tongues or how to perform tasks that are usually instinctive, per the Journal.
It’s a time of great transition for many as they return to work and settle in new routines, but add the uncertainty of the war in Ukraine, it’s not surprising our brains are on cognitive overdrive, per the news outlet.
The brain consumes energy just like other cells in our body and it’s much more than we think, according to neuroscientists.
Stress is a big culprit, in part because of the pandemic, but also because research shows those who have experienced "recent life stressors" have memory issues, according to Dr. Grant Shields, an assistant professor in the department of psychological science at the University of Arkansas, who has done research on the subject.

[CompactMag] The Atlantic last week hosted a conference titled “Disinformation and the Erosion of Democracy” at the University of Chicago, where I’m a student. Barack Obama, Amy Klobuchar, Anne Applebaum, Jeffrey Goldberg, Ben Smith, Brian Stelter, and other boldface names studded the program, alongside many lesser-known members of the prestige press. They would gather, as a news release put it, to explore “the organized spread of disinformation and strategies to respond to it.”
The Atlantic gabfest was billed as a space for rigorous dialogue, where the light of truth would scatter the darkness of disinformation. But the dialogue and criticism, it turned out, didn’t extend to the blue-check media’s own role in proliferating disinformation.
Even before the event got underway, I was skeptical. The conference struck me as one more chance for America’s corporate class to collect fat honorarium checks in exchange for addressing obedient students keen to join that class. My suspicions were soon confirmed. Given the opportunity to ask questions, most of my fellow students lobbed softballs at the speakers, in worshipful tones more befitting a royal audience than a university.
I wondered if I would be able to ask at least one critical query and receive an honest, meaningful response. As it happened, I got a chance to question Anne Applebaum, the Pulitzer-winning historian and Atlantic staff writer, following her session with Obama consigliere David Axelrod. For nearly an hour, Applebaum had effused about how important it is to fight disinformation. So I asked her if she thinks the media acted inappropriately in immediately dismissing the New York Post’s reporting on the Hunter Files as Russian disinformation—a claim we now know to be completely false. Read the rest at the link
"There is no such thing as disinformation. There’s truth and there’s lies. Any journalist who talks of disinformation has swallowed the idea that there is an “approved truth” instead of competing streams of disinformation. This is enough to condemn him in the eyes of any impartial observer."

Anne Applebaum is a lying neocon cunt and insane NeverTrumper who is literally calling for us to declare war on Russia.
At the U. Chicago event the student describes, Applebaum responded to his question as to why she promoted the "disinformation" lie about Biden's laptop by saying she didn't find it "relevant" or "interesting."
Applebaum's studies of Stalin taught her how to tell big lies.
[IsraelTimes] Officials are working to combat black market and loans sharks in the community, Finance Ministry director adds.
Deputy Public Security Minister Yoav Segalovitz said on Sunday that shootings within the Arab community have gone down, as the government and security forces work to round up and confiscate illegal weapons.
According to Segalovitz, the past five months have seen 42 murders in Arab society, compared to 56 in the same period the previous year.
Addressing the Knesset Public Security Committee, Segalovitz said that as part of efforts to curb violence in the Arab community, police and other authorities have compiled a list of 631 suspects in criminal activity, of whom 166 have been arrested and 144 indicted.
He also said that there has been a rise in confiscation of illegal weaponry within the community.
"Criminals need to understand that the rules of the game have changed," he said. "This is a top-priority social mission. The discussions are over — we are moving on to action."
Arab communities in Israel have seen a surge in violence in recent years, driven mainly, but not exclusively, by organized crime. Arab Israelis blame police, who they say have failed to crack down on powerful criminal organizations and largely ignore the violence, which includes family feuds, mafia pie fights and violence against women.
The Arab community has also suffered from decades of neglect.
The Abraham Initiatives, which monitors and campaigns against violence in the Arab community, said that 2021 saw 125 Arabs killed as a result of violence and crime— an all-time record.
Earlier this year, Public Security Minister Omer Barlev said that "criminal families in the Arab sector" were "holding the community by the throat."
Last year, the cabinet passed a plan to allocate NIS 2.5 billion ($750 million) over the next five years to fight the rampant crime in Arab communities.
Finance Ministry Director-General Ram Belinkov said at the same meeting that treasury officials have doubled their efforts to combat the black market within the Arab community, focusing on decreasing the use of paper money and boosting the taking of loans and mortgages.
Belinkov said that officials have confiscated millions of shekels in paper currency from locations used by organized crime.
"Because of lackluster administration and bureaucracy [in the Arab community], many people turn to loan sharks who are connected to organized crime," he said.
[IsraelTimes] Military says intelligence indicated two of Ra’ad Hazem’s brothers were in vehicle in Deir Ghazaleh; another man maimed after allegedly opening fire at soldiers.
The Israeli military said troops opened fire Sunday on a car in which two brothers of Ra’ad Hazem, the terrorist who killed three Israelis in downtown Tel Aviv last week, were believed to be traveling.
The Israel Defense Forces said "intelligence indicated that the terrorist’s two brothers were in one of the vehicles" seen near a Hazem’s home in the village of Deir Ghazaleh.
The terrorist’s family has two houses in the area — one in the Jenin refugee camp and another in the nearby village.
The IDF said bullets struck the car that was traveling in the Jenin area, but it ultimately fled the area. The army claimed soldiers had aimed at the car’s tires, but footage showed smashed windows.
Fathi Hazem, the father of the terrorist, wrote on Facebook that his wife and his younger son were traveling together in the car when soldiers shot at them.
"The army attacked the vehicle directly, I moved the vehicle so they hit its side. They planned to kill, not stop," Hazem’s brother said in a video circulating on Paleostinian social media. He said he was in the car with his mother and 6-year-old brother. "We're the victims here!"
The IDF said that another suspect fired at the soldiers from a passing cycle of violence during the operation. The soldiers responded with fire and hit the man, the military said.
The Paleostinian Authority Health Ministry reported that a Paleostinian man was maimed by Israeli bullets in his pelvis during the incident.
Israeli security forces have sought to arrest the father and brother of Ra’ad Hazem for their alleged involvement in the attack. Hazem’s father, Fathi, is a former security prisoner who previously served as an officer in the Paleostinian Authority’s security services in Jenin. He has praised his son for the killings and refused an Israeli summons for questioning.

When you find 'em, knock 'em out with Rohypnol or something. Put them again in the car. The fuel pump behind the back seat now. Detach the thin pipe leading out and, use a 12 volt bike battery to start the pump while also pouring gasoline into the car from cans. What's important is, the pipe must show up damaged for the forensic guys later.
[IsraelTimes] Justice Yitzhak Amit rules that the Paleostinian leadership ’expresses its consent’ to attacks through its controversial stipends to bully boyz and their relatives
The High Court of Justice on Sunday ruled that the Paleostinian Authority can be held liable for terrorist acts, due to its controversial policy of paying stipends to security prisoners in Israeli jails and the families of those killed during attacks on Israelis.
Justice Yitzhak Amit, setting out the majority ruling, found that the decision to pay convicted Paleostinian bully boyz and those killed as part of the "struggle against Israel" makes the PA liable for their actions.
"[The PA] expresses its consent to their actions, in a manner that takes responsibility for the acts. This justifies that [the PA] will be assigned personal and direct responsibility," Amit wrote.
The Paleostinian Authority’s practice of paying terror stipends — often referred to by some Israeli officials as a pay-to-slay policy — has been pilloried by critics as incentivizing terror.
Paleostinian leaders have long defended the payments, describing them as a form of social welfare and necessary compensation for victims of Israel’s military justice system in the West Bank.
The United States has pressured Ramallah to end the policy in recent years. In 2018, Congress passed legislation banning the US government from sending aid to the PA until it ended the practice. The matter remains a key bone of contention between the two sides.
The plaintiffs in the case to the High Court are four families who lost loved ones in four separate terror attacks during the early days of the Second Intifada some 20 years ago. The Jerusalem District Court rejected their petition, but the High Court, led by Justice Amit, ruled in their favor.
The case will now be returned to the Jerusalem District Court, which will determine the compensation owed to the four by the PA.
The legal debate in the High Court centered around the extent to which Ramallah’s prisoner payments "retroactively authorized" the terror attacks committed by their beneficiaries.
Under Israeli damages law, a party can be held liable not only if they "provide counsel, aid...or order and permit" legal damage — but also if they retroactively "ratify" damages done to another.
The court acknowledged that the decision is "precedent-setting and unusual" in its interpretation of the ratification clause in damages law.
It ruled, however, that the PA can only be sued for compensation, rather than punitive damages. This means relatively lower payouts can be ordered by courts in which Ramallah may be tried.
Earlier on Sunday, the government approved the establishment of a committee to examine the removal of state benefits such as pensions and other grants from the families of citizens who committed acts of terror.
A panel consisting of the directors of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Public Security Ministry, the Defense Ministry, the Justice Ministry, the Welfare Ministry and other officials will be convened to formulate a recommendation within 60 days of its establishment.
"We are determined... to change the equation so that it will not be worthwhile to take part in terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens," said Bennett. "Providing benefits from the state to terrorist families is utterly absurd and it is time to redress the injustice."
"The State of Israel will hold anyone accountable who has a direct or indirect connection to the terrorist attacks," he added.
Israel has seen four deadly terror attacks in recent weeks and has ramped up security measures in response, as well as carried out a number of raids in the West Bank.
Such legislation has been introduced in the past, but has not succeeded in passing the Knesset. It would also likely face a challenge in the Supreme Court ...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations... .

Given the R.O.I. advancements in Warfare technology.
The cost of one laser-guided missile for the Stugna-P is estimated at approximately $20,000.

The tank is going back to its WWII role currently as infantry support. In Iraq and Afghanistan, the US used them in this role until the strikers came online. People are already braying the tank is obsolete but the Russian's do not have any good anti-missile systems. Once we see the west's in action, especially the newer laser ones the US is developing, then we can look at that argument again.
I am still wondering if they will hold up against a multi missile attack. Javelin with launcher costs around $120k and each missile costs 80k. Compared to a $5million dollar tank, firing 8 missiles at it to kill it is still a worthwhile expenditure of ammo.
[SHAFAQ] Russian forces fired rockets into Luhansk and Dnipro regions on Sunday, Ukrainian officials said, completely destroying an airport and wounding at least five people.Valentyn Reznichenko, governor of the central Dnipropetrovsk region, said emergency workers were combing through an infrastructure facility that was hit in the town of Zvonetsky, adding that details on casualties would be given later.
"Overnight high-precision missiles destroyed the base and headquarters of the nationalist Dnepr battalion in Zvonetsky, which also recently received reinforcements from foreign mercenaries," Russia's Defence Ministry said.
Reznichenko said on Telegram that there had also been an attack on the airport in Dnipro city.
"The airport itself was destroyed, as well as nearby infrastructure. And the rockets fly and fly," Reznichenko said.
Reznichenko said earlier that an attack on Dnipro had maimed one person and the rockets had sparked a fire that was eventually put out. A missile had also hit a building in the Pavlograd district, he added.
Separately, the head of the Dnipro region council, Mykola Lukashuk, says five staffers of the state emergency service had been maimed by the strike on the airport.
Serhiy Gaidai, governor of Luhansk, an eastern region bordering Russia, wrote earlier on Telegram that a school and a high-rise apartment building had been hit in the city of Sievierodonetsk.
"Fortunately, no casualties," Gaidai said.

A blast from a roadside kaboom reportedly hit a convoy of the US-led Global coalition in Dhi Qar on Sunday.
A source told Shafaq News agency that the earth-shattering kaboom targeted a supply convoy of the Coalition inside the territory of the Dhi Qar governorate.
The attack resulted in no human casualties and the convoy resumed its march toward its destination, according to the source.
Observers believe that Iran-backed Iraqi factions orchestrate these nearly daily attacks against the convoys of the US-led Coalition in Iraq. The frequency of the attacks increased drastically since the liquidation of the Commander of Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani , and the Deputy Head of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces-PMF) Commission, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, in Baghdad in January 2020.

What are we doing still convoying around Iraq. Why haven’t we arranged for a disastrous buyout where we betray everyone who helped us and abandoned huge cashes of weapons and machinery?

[SHAFAQ] Civil organization, activists, artists and Parliamentarians, called today for handing over 423 perpetrators accused of being involved in al-Anfal campaigns, after they fled to Europe.
In a presser held in Chemchemal, said that 423 perpetrators who participated in al-Anfal campaigns and the chemical attack on Halabja, live in European countries including UK, Austria, Switzerland ..home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell... , Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, are wanted by the Iraqi judiciary and must not be granted asylum.
The conference moderators said that some of these perpetrators live in the Kurdistan Region, and must be arrested and prevented from getting away with their crimes.
During al-Anfal campaigns, launched on July 1983, 8,000 people from Barzan were arrested, and a genocide was carried out in many other areas, resulting in more than 180,000 victims and hundreds of thousands of IDPs, for nothing but belonging to the Kurdish community.
[An Nahar] Imran Khan ...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree... was dismissed Sunday as Pakistain's prime minister after losing a no-confidence vote, paving the way for an unlikely opposition alliance that faces the same issues that bedeviled the cricket star-turned-politician.A new premier will be chosen Monday, with centrist Pakistain Moslem League-N (PML-N) chief Shehbaz Sharif already anointed to lead the nuclear-armed nation of 220 million people.
His first task will be to form a cabinet that will draw also heavily from the center-left Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP), as well as find space for the smaller conservative Jamaatul Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) group.

Terrorists, locally dubbed bandidos, have taken over at least 13 communities in the Gassol and Karim Lamido local government areas of Taraba State.
According to Daily Trust, findings revealed that the worst affected by the bandidos’ activities is the Kambari community.
Kambari village in the Karim Lamido Local Government Area is located on the bank of River Benue and not far away from the border of Plateau State.
The town and other neighbouring villages are also surrounded by thick forests and without access roads which make it a haven for criminals.
The daredevil bandidos, it was further learnt, have forced the police and vigilantes to abandon their duty posts in that axis.
The bandidos, according to sources in the area, forcefully sleep with housewives and maiden of tender yearss.
Residents of the town have resigned to fate as there is no action from the authorities to arrest the criminal activities.
Similarly, other villages in both Gassol and Karim Lamido local government areas located on the bank of River Benue are also under the threat of terrorists.
Residents of six villages across River Benue, in the Karim Lamido local government area, were forced to relocate to other places because of the criminal activities of the terrorists.
The villages include Gwammo, Wurno, Tungan Kaya, Gidan Kawoyel and Ali Kwala.
Similarly, WuroJam, Karar, Shika, Amar, Zip, WuruJam, Illela and Maigemu among others are now under the threat of the terrorists.
It was gathered that the bandidos move freely day and night with their weapons in some of the affected villages and towns.
Findings revealed that the turbans have become lords to themselves and are kidnapping residents including housewives without let or hindrance.
In some of the affected villages, young boys were said to have been recruited by the turbans and are the ones informing the turbans of houses of wealthy individuals.
A resident of Kambari town who spoke on condition of anonymity said the bandidos have taken over the town and it is now their operational base.
According to him, many residents have relocated to Mutumbiyu town and other places.
He said the bandidos are mostly from Zamfara and Katsina and they number over 200.
"There is no presence of police and vigilantes in Kambari, turbans are in total control of the town and they move freely with their arms," he said.
A former resident of the area, who relocated to Mutumbiyu town, said it is no longer safe to stay in the town.
"We are under siege; we need the government to intervene by sending soldiers to chase out the turbans because they are regrouping every day and also recruiting our young men," he said.
He revealed that the turbans are responsible for most of the kidnappings and killings in parts of Karim Lamido, Gassol and Bali local government areas of the state.

[FoxNews] A loud bang caused by multiple manhole fires near Times Square on Sunday evening sent people scrambling in midtown Manhattan.
Three manholes caught fire around 6:45 p.m. on W 43rd St between 7th and 8th avenues, an area of the city that is packed with tourists at most hours, according to the FDNY.
There were no injuries as a result of the incident, according to preliminary reports from the NYPD and FDNY.
Firefighters discovered elevated carbon monoxide levels near where the explosions happened and are in the process of venting the area, an FDNY spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
Manhole fires more than doubled in New York City from fiscal year 2020 to 2021, jumping to 6,104 last year, according to the Mayor's Management report released last year.
Manhole fires often occur when gas builds up underground and is ignited by an electrical short circuit, sending an explosion through the path of least resistance, which is usually a manhole, according to Fire Engingeering magazine.

President Biden is on tape fondling and sniffing children. Kindergarteners are being taught to masturbate by teachers in government schools.
Pedophilia is on the edge of being as normal as being gay. Maybe find a new line of attack?
Speaking to reporters at NATO headquarters in Brussels Thursday afternoon, President Joe Biden warned Americans a food shortage is coming. Citing the war being waged by Russia and Ukraine, in addition to sanctions imposed by the west, Biden said warnings about fertilizer and wheat scarcity are real.
"We did talk about food shortages. It's going to be real. The price of these sanctions is not just imposed upon Russia. It's imposed upon an awful lot of countries as well including European countries and our country as well," Biden said.
Overheard - a conversation with a farmer today:
- Meat processors booked out a year because stockpiling beef.
- Farmers in South can’t get fertilizer for crops now.
- Farmers in Midwest are switching, can’t get nitrogen nor fertilizer.
Buckle up, folks! The media isn’t even warning you.

Of course not. Why would they? Reality is biting us in the ass. The Biden Administration sanctions are causing food shortages for us and hunger and famine for people around the world.
It's a lot easier to dogpile on some obscure character than to admit that our government's foreign policy is blowing up in our face

My dear Omomolet Phutch9064, we have the entirety of Page 6: Seedy Politics/Politicians dedicated to the proposition that all of the ideas and almost all of the actions of President Biden and his supporters are wrong, dangerous, and evil. I’m really not sure how much more strongly we could disagree with him/them.

With regard to Mr. Ritter: while conceding that the gentleman in question is reasonably bright, highly trained, and connected internationally, we remember when he resigned from the UN because they were not aggressive enough in taking away Saddam Hussein’s WMDs, then turned on President George W. Bush for aggressively separating Saddam Hussein from same by removing him from controlling Iraq. His illegal fondness for underage females is merely a metaphor for the entire poisoned tree that each of his statements is the poisoned fruit of. Not to mention that such actions are prime blackmail material, and so we cannot judge how much of what he says when in anti-America mode is actually his own evaluation, and how much has been required of him by inimical forces.

Nobody is bother to address his ideas because "Scott Ritter: I believe Russia has articulated a cognizable claim of preemptive collective self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter." is total nonsense.
[YouTube - Defense Updates] It is unmistakable that Russia has lost a considerable number of fighter jets as well as attack helicopters in the Ukrainian conflict.
The losses are far more than anticipated.
Very few could have predicted this kind of damage will be sustained by the Russian Air Force.
Interestingly, Russia is also taking crucial losses even without enemy action.
A MiG-31 Foxhound fighter jet being flown in routine training exercises crashed near the Finnish border, in the Leningrad region of northwestern Russia on Friday.
Fortunately, the pilots were safely ejected and no injuries were reported.
In this video Defense Updates analyzes how the Russian air force is falling apart by itself
[ZeroHedge] As gas prices continue to rise into the peak driving (and flying season), expect to see more bizarre twists in conventional behavior... like airlines offering bus service in place of connecting flights.
Take American Airlines, which according to the Associated Press is "expanding" its network into and out of Philadelphia with a new bus service that will connect the carrier's hub with two other airports in the region. Starting in June, the company will begin offering buses as connecting flights to and from Philadelphia International Airport with both Lehigh Valley International Airport and Atlantic City International Airport.
Passengers traveling to or from Philly, Allentown or Atlantic City will be able to book connecting itineraries through American, according to The Points Guy: travelers whose trips begin in Allentown or Atlantic City will check their bags and go through security as if they were taking a normal flight. However, passengers will board a bus rather than a flight to Philly, where they will be dropped off at their terminals without having to go through security again. Bags will be automatically transferred to their connecting flights. Similarly, travelers landing in Philly will head to a dedicated gate from where the bus will pick up. Bags will be automatically transferred to the bus.
The buses will consist of 35 leather seats, complimentary Wi-Fi, streaming options and power outlets.
American's connecting bus service will operate three round-trips per day between Atlantic City and Philly and two daily runs to and from Allentown. Tickets will go on sale Monday, with trips scheduled to begin June 3.
According to Philly Voice, American said that the forthcoming bus service will be an "easier way" for passengers to travel between the airports, which of course is laughable propaganda. In reality, the airline's "expansion" into busing is driven by pilot shortages and higher gas prices, Airline Weekly reported, forcing carriers like American to explore more cost-effective travel options for passengers.
Staffing shortages have already forced American to suspend dozens of routes flown by regional affiliates across its network this spring and summer. American's regional affiliate, American Eagle, services flights from Allentown to Chicago and Charlotte.
The airline previously operated flights between Philly and Allentown until the route was suspended in May 2020. The two airports are separated by only 73 miles.
Atlantic City International Airport is a new addition to American's map. Before merging with American in 2015, U.S. Airways served Atlantic City nonstop from Philly on and off again until 2003. The two airports are separated by only 56 miles.

Family down in Miami returning from a cruise yesterday found that their flight was "cancel" and all 150+ passengers flying to Atlanta were screwed.
They were bused to and put up overnight in a cheap hotel. They have a Flight out this 10am.
BUT! They now have to fly to BWI, wait for a connecting flight to Atlanta, wait there to catch another flight to their Ga. Region Airport. Then get their car to drive another 40+ miles home.
When it is all said and done, they will have flown more miles, than their 5-day cruise took them.

Shaping up to be a bad summer to fly. Seems weather leads to more flight cancellations these days. Fuel prices. Staffing shortages. Transportation Secretary MIA / not interested in airplanes unless they are electric. Cost of plane tickets is up 40%+. And so on...

Back 10 years ago, I had to connect thru the Philly airport. Under construction and a real cluster f. Arrived to a "remote terminal", they put us on a bus, drove around awhile, and then took us back to the same terminal. Literally looking across the lobby to where we left from.
I suspect that (a) the same management minds are still at work, and (b) the bus driver's union in Philly is a b!tch.

Back in 2000, with 10 years as a Road Warrior Consultant behind me, I had racked up just over 820,000 Miles total. The miles were spread across Delta, United, AA.
Then tickets (with 2 week advance purchase) were about $450 to $750 round trip coach. $1400++ for emergency < 12 hrs arrival.
United, the most anal ticket agents.
Delta, the most accommodating.
AA, the most seat grabbing rides

[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Dramatic footage showing Russian tank being destroyed in direct hit by missile is released by Ukrainian Army – as airport in Dnipro is badly damaged by shelling
The incredible footage was verified by Ukraine's land forces early this morning
A large plume of smoke was first seen rising from the damaged Russian tank
It suddenly exploded in a huge ball of flame, likely after ammunition was ignited
The 53th Prince Volodymyr Monomakh Separate mechanised brigade was named as the Ukrainian unit responsible for taking out the Russian tank
Elsewhere, a convoy of Russian armour and artillery was spotted in east Ukraine
Analysts believe it is moving to the frontlines in Luhansk and Donetsk
It comes as the airport in the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro was destroyed
Russian shelling obliterated the airport and surrounding infrastructure
[Rudaw] Water levels in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region have decreased significantly as Iran ...They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... has cut down large portions of water flowing into the country from the east.
The Alwan dam in Diyala province’s Khanaqin holds 38 million cubic meters of water, but Iran has for the past ten days reduced the flow of water into the dam.
"Iran took over the water of Alwan. They use it for their own purposes and you can see that the amount of water is decreasing day by day," Ahmad Wasin, director of the Alwan dam, told Rudaw’s Hunar Hamid on Saturday.
The decrease in the dam’s water levels has led authorities to reduce the usage of the dam’s water.
"We have started to use less water now. The purpose is to use it for Khanaqin’s agriculture later in the summer. Also, to use the water for the projects in Khanaqin and for the citizens," Wasin added.
Iran’s building of several dams and restricting the flow of water into the west has also affected the Kurdistan Region, forcing officials in charge of water resources to reduce the daily use of water held in the reservoirs.
The Darbandikhan dam in Sulaimani province is the main source of water for agriculture and drinking in the area.
It is also an important source of electricity generation in the Kurdistan Region.
The dam has the capacity to hold up to three billion cubic meters of water. However, Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried... it now contains just under 1.3 billion cubic meters of water.
Saman Ismail, the manager of Darbandikhan dam, claims that "Darbandikhan's main source of water, Sirwan river, comes from Iran" and that water levels have decreased to a point that the flow of water from neighboring Iran has fallen to almost zero.
Authorities have on several occasions warned that dams that had been built by Iran and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... , contributed to a growing water crisis in the southern and central provinces of Iraq and the northern Kurdistan Region.
Around 600 dams have been built over the last 30 years by Iran, cutting or diverting river courses from its territory into Iraq.
Since Iran began building dams and watersheds, Iraq's ministry of water resources has been in talks with its neighbor to prevent them from cutting Iraq’s main sources of water, but the talks have not been fruitful.
[IsraelTimes] 9-meter high, 40-kilometer long section to be improved from Salem area in north West Bank to Bat Hefer; move comes after 2 snuffies suspected of slipping through gaps in barrier
The high-level security cabinet approved funding to upgrade a section of the West Bank security barrier, the Prime Minister’s Office said Sunday.
According to a statement, the ministers voted unanimously to allocate NIS 300 million (some $93 million) to improve a 40 kilometer stretch of the barrier along the so-called seam line.
The move came after the terrorist who on March 29 killed five people in Bnei Brak entered Israel through a gap in the barrier, and security officials suspect the Paleostinian assailant who rubbed out three people in Tel Aviv on Thursday did likewise.
"We will fight terror with all the tools available to us and we will win," Prime Minister Naftali Bennett tweeted after the cabinet meeting.
According to the Defense Ministry, the money will fund the upgrade of a 40 kilometer (25 mile) stretch of the barrier from the Salem area in the northern West Bank to Israel’s Bat Hefer region.
"The barrier will be comprised of concrete, protective equipment, and additional technological components. It will be up to 9 meters (29.5 feet) high and will replace the fence that was built about 20 years ago," the ministry said, adding that it plans to begin work in the coming weeks.
Senior security officials told Hebrew media that they believe that the Tel Aviv terrorist crossed into Israel through a hole in the security barrier near Jenin, even though the military recently fortified the fence in that area.
The West Bank security barrier was first suggested in the 1990s by the late prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, who saw it as a way to separate Israel from the Paleostinians. But the project never materialized due to internal opposition.
It was only during the Second Intifada, as Israel fought waves of suicide kabooms and other terrorist attacks emanating from the West Bank, that the idea was revived and kicked into high gear.
Many credit the barrier with helping end that uprising, which lasted from 2000 to 2005, though of its planned 708-kilometer (440-mile) route, only 62% has been completed.
The security barrier did not come without controversy, though, as the fence sparked local demonstrations and international condemnation over its route, snaking into the West Bank through seized Paleostinian fields and sometimes cutting off farmers from their land.
About 85% of the barrier runs within the West Bank, with the remaining 15% running along the Green Line — the pre-1967 ceasefire line that delineates Israel from the West Bank — and within Israeli territory. In total, the barrier is estimated to have cost the country some NIS 9 billion ($2.8 billion) according to the Knesset Research and Information Center.
For most of its route, the barrier consists of a chain-link fence equipped with surveillance cameras and other sensors, buffered by barbed wire and a 60-meter (200 foot) wide exclusion area. In more urban areas — including around Jerusalem and Bethlehem — the barrier is not a fence but an eight- to nine-meter (26- to 30-foot) high concrete wall.
However, the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything... in recent years Israel has been accused of seemingly turning a blind eye to gaps in the barrier that are used daily by thousands of Paleostinian laborers to enter Israel illegally.
Analysts say Israel’s unspoken policy has been to allow as many Paleostinian workers into Israel as possible to head off economic hardships that can lead to desperation and create terrorists.
[Breitbart]The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF), a London-based non-governmental organization, this week published a report on the destructive, largely unregulated, and often illegal operations of China’s immense deep-water fishing fleet.
An especially disturbing chapter of the report dealt with the harmful impact of Chinese fishing on West African nations, where entire coastal communities tremble on the verge of economic collapse thanks to China’s rapacious practices.
The report, titled The Ever-Widening Net: Mapping the Scale, Nature, and Corporate Structures of Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing by the Chinese Distant-Water Fleet, accused China of creating a huge fleet to fish outside China’s own depleted waters.

[GOLDMONEY] We will look back at current events and realise that they marked the change from a dollar-based global economy underwritten by financial assets to commodity-backed currencies. We face a change from collateral being purely financial in nature to becoming commodity based. It is collateral that underwrites the whole financial system.
The ending of the financially based system is being hastened by geopolitical developments. The West is desperately trying to sanction Russia into economic submission, but is only succeeding in driving up energy, commodity, and food prices against itself. Central banks will have no option but to inflate their currencies to pay for it all. Russia is linking the rouble to commodity prices through a moving gold peg instead, and China has already demonstrated an understanding of the West's inflationary game by having stockpiled commodities and essential grains for the last two years and allowed her currency to rise against the dollar.
China and Russia are not going down the path of the West's inflating currencies. Instead, they are moving towards a sounder money strategy with the prospect of stable interest rates and prices while the West accelerates in the opposite direction.
The Credit Suisse analyst, Zoltan Pozsar, calls it Bretton Woods III. This article looks at how it is likely to play out, concluding that the dollar and Western currencies, not the rouble, will have the greatest difficulty dealing with the end of fifty years of economic financialisation.

"While the rest of the world is engaged in tightening monetary policy to tame the self-inflicted inflation beast, Russia’s central bank unexpectedly cut its key interest rate the most in nearly two decades last night."
Bloomberg, April 8:

The sanctions have been mocked from the outset as a bad joke. The notion that the US could dictate to the world's nations a policy of starving their own people and crippling their indistries - all to punish a country that most of the Hlobal South considers a friend - was always ludicrous.
But the carveouts for Germany are beyond laughable. They reek of western cynicism. Now the EU us carving even more out and pushing back deadlines for inaugurating the sanctions in Germany:
"The European Union's proposed ban on Russian coal imports is expected to take full effect a month later than initially planned due to pressure from Germany, two EU sources were quoted by Reuters as saying.
According to the initial plan, the EU set a 90-day transition before a complete ban on Russian coal, but the period has been extended to four months, Reuters said. That followed pressure mostly from Germany, although the report didn't elaborate.
Germany is heavily reliant on Russia's energy products such as coal, oil and gas. Germany bought 21.5% of its coal from Russia in 2020. That number rose to 35.2% for oil imports and to 58.9% for natural gas, according to data from the European statistics office.

#1 Everyone with a brain for economics or finance predicted this a MONTH ago -- everyone outside Washington, that is.
It's hard to fathom the stupidity of the Biden people. Everyone knows that sanctions have failed again and again. Thus is because sanctions cannot change a proud nation's foreign policies. They only create bitterness that lasts for decades.
And the inevitable carveouts (like those allowing greener-than-thou Germany to continue breaking sanctions and buying tons of coal and oil from Russia) only increase popular contempt, while making corrupt politicians rich.
When is a cargo of Russian diesel not a cargo of Russian diesel? The answer is when Shell Plc, the largest European oil company, turns it into what traders refer to as a Latvian blend.
The point is to market a barrel in which only 49.99% comes from Russia; in Shell’s eyes, as long as the other 50.01 percent is sourced elsewhere, the oil cargo isn’t technically of Russian origin.

The sanctions are counterproductive. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is absolutely correct to vote against them (btw it was 9 not 3 congressmen, the others include Matt Gaetz). MTG said, the sanctions just hurt Americans and millions of people outside Russia while forcing Russia to build stronger relationships with China and other enemies of the US:
"These bills are not going to stop Putin and his invasion into Ukraine, they aren't going to change his mind... They look tough and they sound tough, but it's actually going to hurt many, many people."

So, Bill, as an investment proposition you recommend that everyone here sell all stocks and bonds they may own and buy gold or commodities? Is that what Credit Suisse -- Mr. Pozsar's employer -- recommends? To get down to cases, I can buy an ounce of gold for a little more than I can buy 100 shares of JNJ, an AAA rated company that pays a pretty solid dividend. I should buy the ounce of gold, right?
Also, you refer to a "slash" in Russian interest rates. Are you referring to the cut from 20% to 17%? You realize that an average consumer credit card charges a lower rate than that? Or in other words, the credit market assesses Frank G to be a better risk than Russian government debt. I wonder why that is.

Ha, that's a nice portfolio. Lockheed + Russian land. Soon Russia will own lots of really valuable black earth and natural gas reserves in the Donbas. Possession, 9/10ths etc
Biden + Putin are working hand in hand. Russia invades Ukraine, so Biden sanctions Russia. Russia destroys Ukraine, so Biden destroys the US economy. Russia takes more territory, so Biden prolongs the war.
At every stage, Russia gets more territory and rakes in more revenue while Lockheed books more orders and racks up more profit. Russian land + Lockheed: there you have it, Matt!

The repeated consonant changes the pronunciation. One consonant makes the preceding stressed vowel long; two consonants makes it short.
'tobaco' would be pronounced like 'Waco'
'tobacco' is pronounced like 'wacko'

#27 The US Clown Sanctions are a trader's dream come true. Everyone's making big money off of this war and the sanctions. You could fly a 737 through all the loopholes and exemptions
Didn't Soros say the best time to make a fortune is when there's blood flowing in the streets?

So, is this the great commodity switch, where the commodity trade currency market introduces the World to Soylent Green due to uncontrollable food inflation and long term food shortages?

This’ll be the year, then, when all those bourgeois Americans in the suburbs plant ornamental edibles in the flower beds and add a few pots of tomatoes, peppers, and herbs near the front door, and the city folk ditto in window boxes?

Food Shortage? That's basically the 4000 year history of mankind with short interludes of decent harvests. Shows how 'entitled and privileged' so many have become accustomed to in less than a hundred years.

#13 when Shell Plc, the largest European oil company, turns it into what traders refer to as a Latvian blend. ...to bring to market a barrel in which only 49.99% comes from Russia; in Shell’s eyes, as long as the other 50.01 percent is sourced elsewhere, the oil cargo isn’t technically of Russian origin.

Yes. Why do you ask? What is your Social Credit Score?
The U.S. economic outlook is darkening so rapidly that a recession may be on the horizon as the Federal Reserve makes an aggressive pivot to tame the hottest inflation in four decades, according to economists at Bank of America.
In an analyst note to clients, BofA chief investment strategist Michael Hartnett warned that surging consumer prices, combined with an increasingly hawkish central bank, could precipitate an economic downturn in the U.S.
La Belle France's incumbent leader Emmanuel Macron and far-right challenger Marine Le Pen are heading for an April 24 presidential election runoff, projections showed after first round voting on Sunday.
Macron garnered 28.1-29.5% of votes in the first round while Le Pen won 23.3-24.4%, according to separate estimates by pollsters Ifop, OpinionWay, Elabe and Ipsos. Those estimates, published as voting ended, are usually very reliable in La Belle France.
If confirmed, that outcome would set up a duel between an economic liberal with a globalist outlook in Macron and a deeply eurosceptic economic nationalist who, until the Ukraine war, was an open admirer of Russian President Vladimir Putin ...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances... Who next holds the Elysee Palace will depend on how those who backed Macron and Le Pen's rivals cast their ballots.
Conservative candidate Valerie Pecresse, the Socialists' Anne Hidalgo, the Greens' Yannick Jadot and the Communists' Fabien Roussel said they would back Macron to block the far-right.
"So that La Belle France does not fall into hatred of all against all, I solemnly call on you to vote on April 24 against the far-right of Marine Le Pen," said Hidalgo.
Pecresse warned of "disastrous consequences" if Macron did not win the runoff.
But another far-right candidate Eric Zemmour will call on supporters to back Le Pen, Marion Marechal - who is an ally of Zemmour and Le Pen's niece - told BFM TV.
To cheers of supporters chanting "We will win! We will win!," Le Pen said she wanted to unite all French. The runoff "will be a choice of civilisation," she said, adding that her platform would protect the weak and make La Belle France independent.
Not for two decades has a French president won a second term.
Barely a month ago, Macron was on course to comfortably reverse that, riding high in polls thanks to strong economic growth, a fragmented opposition and his statesman role in trying to avert war on Europe's eastern flank.
But he paid a price for late entry into the campaign during which he eschewed market walkabouts in provincial La Belle France in favour of a single big rally outside Gay Paree. A plan to make people work longer also proved unpopular, enabling Le Pen to narrow the gap in opinion polls.
She, by contrast, for months toured towns and villages across La Belle France, focusing on cost-of-living issues that trouble millions and tapping into anger towards the political elite.
"Marine Le Pen knew how to talk to people about their more concrete problems. During the next two weeks he (Macron) will have to pay more attention to what is happening in La Belle France, take a diplomatic break," said Adrien Thierry, a 23-year old supporter.
After a more than 10 point lead Macron had enjoyed as late as mid-March, voter surveys ahead of the first round showed his margin of victory in an eventual runoff whittled down to within the margin of error.
"I'm scared of the political extremes," said pensioner Therese Eychenne, 89, after voting for Macron in Gay Paree. "I don't know what would become of La Belle France."
The hard left's Jean-Luc Melenchon polled third on Sunday, with an estimated 20%, the projections showed.
A Le Pen victory on April 24 would constitute a similar jolt to the establishment as Britannia's Brexit vote to leave the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... (EU) or Donald Trump ...His ancestors didn't own any slaves... 's 2017 entry into the White House.
La Belle France, the EU's second largest economy, would lurch from being a driving force for European integration to being led by a euro-sceptic who is also suspicious of the NATO ...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis.... military alliance.
While Le Pen has ditched past ambitions for a "Frexit" or to haul La Belle France out of the euro zone's single currency, she envisages the EU as a mere alliance of sovereign states.
In past French elections in 2002 and 2017, voters on the left and right have united to block the far-right from power.
However, a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all... surveys suggest that the so-called "republicain front" has crumbled, with many left-wing voters saying they are loathe to endorse a leader they deride as arrogant and a "president of the rich."
"We want change, so why not give her a chance (in round two)?" technician Alex Talcone said in the Gay Paree suburb of Bobigny after voting for hard-left candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon.
A local court in India has sentenced a 39-year-old Nigerian man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for smuggling heroin into Mohali in 2018.
The court of additional district and sessions judge Harjit Kaur Kaleke last Thursday also slapped a fine of ₹1 lakh (about N41.5 million) on the convict, Saira Kuze Madhubuchi, who will undergo imprisonment for another one year if the fine is not paid, Hindustan Times reports.
According to the case files, in August 2018, the special task force (STF) of Mohali police received a tip-off that a man would be entering Mohali with heroin.
An STF team, led by sub-inspector Ram Darshan, under the supervision of assistant inspector general Rajinder Singh Sohal, laid a ’naka’ (checkpoint) near Dara Studio in Phase 6, where they spotted Madhubuchi and stopped him after looking suspicious.
On frisking him, the police team recovered 260 gm of heroin from his possession.
Through further probe, they found that the Nigerian national came to India on a business visa in 2015, and sold readymade garments and cosmetics in Delhi, but started smuggling drugs business after his visa expired in 2017.

I'm guessing it is like the old 'hard labor" variant back before the rehabilitation theme was introduced. Back then, imprisonment at hard labor was about punishment, pure and simple, and it was meant to be a genuine deterrent, unlike warehousing and crime school in our enlightened modernity. Pity we are so sophisticated and nuanced...
[SHAFAQ] A senior U.S. official has said Russia has appointed a new commander to oversee its war on Ukraine.
The official speaking on condition of anonymity ... for fear of being murdered... said Russia has turned to one of its most experienced military officers, Gen. Alexander Dvornikov. U.S. officials say the 60-year-old general "has a record of brutality against civilians in Syria and other theatres of war."
The White House national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, told CNN ...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for... on Sunday that "this general will just be another author of crimes and brutality against Ukrainian civilians." And he said "no appointment of any general can erase the fact that Russia has already faced a strategic failure in Ukraine."
The new battlefield leadership comes as Russia gears up for what is expected to be a large and more focused push to expand Russian control in the Donbas after failing to conquer the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. Sullivan reiterated support for the Ukrainian government, saying the United States is determined to do all it can to help Ukrainians resist this general and the forces he commands.
Austria's Chancellor Karl Nehammer will meet Vladimir Putin ...President-for-Life of Russia. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances... in Moscow on Monday in an attempt to build dialogue with the Russian President as the war in Ukraine continues.
Nehammer announced the visit to journalists, and on Twitter, after returning from a trip to Kyiv, where he met with Ukrainian leaders and also visited the town of Bucha, site of alleged Russian military atrocities, on Saturday.
Plans for the Putin meeting were coordinated with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, among others, as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The meeting is an unusual step for Nehammer, chancellor since December and a novice in diplomatic circles who'll look to build on militarily-neutral Austria's perceived role as a bridge between Europe's east and west.
Earlier talks between Putin and other European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, have failed to yield any meaningful concessions from the Russian President.
[IsraelTimes] Officials say border guard, slightly hurt in attack, manages to fire back; incident comes hours after another Paleostinian woman was rubbed out in West Bank
A Paleostinian woman was rubbed out by Israeli officers Sunday after trying to stab them at a checkpoint near the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron, police said.
Police said one Border Police officer was lightly hurt in the attack.
A police official told The Times of Israel that the maimed officer managed to shoot back twice, killing the assailant.
Footage from the scene showed the woman lying on the ground near the officers.
The Paleostinian Authority Health Ministry later identified the alleged stabber as 24-year-old Maha Kazim al-Zaatry, a resident of Hebron.
The incident came hours after an unarmed Paleostinian woman was rubbed out by Israeli soldiers after she ran toward them in the West Bank town of Husan.
Tensions have risen sharply between Israel and the Paleostinians in recent weeks against the backdrop of repeated terror attacks in Israeli cities that left 14 dead. The army has stepped up its West Bank activities in an attempt to crack down on the spiraling violence.
Overnight Saturday soldiers conducted raids in Paleostinian cities across the West Bank in an attempt to tamp down the violence, and arrested 20. Paleostinians clashed with Israeli troops during the raids in Tulkarem, Jenin and Jericho, leading to several injuries.
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian man has been arrested by troops after he allegedly tried to stab an Israeli man near the Barkan industrial zone in the West Bank, the Samaria Regional Council says. The Israeli man was slightly hurt in the incident, according to the Rescuers Without Borders emergency service. A picture showed scratches on his arm.
The alleged assailant was detained without the knife after a brief chase by officers, police say. Law enforcement officials say that the suspect only threatened the Israeli man with the knife, and that the motive is still being investigated.
[IsraelTimes] A Jewish Israeli man snatched a weapon from a soldier at a junction near the southern city of Ashkelon on Sunday night before being rubbed out by a top military officer, police said, in an incident that underscored tensions in the country that has been hit by a wave of terror attacks in recent weeks.
The man grabbed the servicewoman’s gun at a bus stop at the junction, and fled. According to some reports, he threatened her with a plastic handgun before snatching her weapon. He was then shot by Col. Eliav Elbaz, the commander of the military’s Binyamin Territorial Brigade.
The man — who was not immediately named — died of his wounds at the scene. The incident was initially thought by many to be a terror attack committed by a Paleostinian. Elbaz, who had been passing by, chased the man while calling on him to stop in Arabic, before fatally shooting him.
Images from the scene showed the slain man wearing what appeared to be military coveralls. Hebrew-language media reports said he was suffering from mental illness and had run away from an institution in the city earlier that evening.
The female soldier who was assaulted by the man was taken to hospital by medics.
The assailants also burnt the residence of the father of the state justice commissioner located in the Orsu Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement on Sunday, Akaolisa confirmed the attacks, saying, "The Igbos are hard-working people who through their years of toils put up structures and leave developmental strides in their communities of Origin maka ’akụ ruo ụlọ, a mara onye nwe ya’.
"Through my many years of struggle, I have managed to put a block on another to build a befitting house for my family. My aged father also has a house he built through his sweats.
"Today, both buildings are in rubbles and ashes — our fellow Igbos burnt them. Firstly, last year, these arsonists burnt my country home in Obibi, Awo-Idemili, Orsu LGA of Imo State for no just cause.
"This year again, they returned and this time, they perfected the complete burning of even the blocks/bricks.
"And last night, to my utter consternation, they levelled my father’s house. This is a house my father built by himself — the life-toil of an aged man.
"In other words, I wish to put on record that my family house is completely destroyed. This was after they used a truck to cart all the properties: fridges TVs, bed/foams, generator sets and other household materials.
"What are my crimes, who did I offend? And what were my father’s offences? And I dare ask, where is the Igbo spirit? This is a direct affront to the akụ ruo ụlọ spirit. Who will invest in Ala Igbo nay Orsu LGA today under this type of atmosphere?
"The above are acts of arson ongoing in my LGA of Orsu. The complete burning of our LGA Secretariat, the house of my colleague — Chief Prince Ford Ozumba, the Hon Commissioner, Imo State Ministry of Labour, Employment and Productivity, the house of Hon. Ekene Nnodumele, the member representing Orsu State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly. There are also houses of other politicians which have been razed in my area so far.
"Other ungodly acts are the sacking and carting away of all the Police presence & armouries in Orsu LGA, the kidnapping and killing of well-to-do individuals and security operatives. This attendant scare has become a daily phenomenon in my Local Government Area.
"Today, these button men (Codenamed Ụmụ Ọma, under the guise of freedom fighters) have continued to demand huge sums of money from mourning families who wish to bury their loved ones and the likes. It is now strictly business! These button men have almost made a god of themselves, killing and cannibalising at will, in my area but believe me, they will not succeed with our voices up and collaborative efforts.
"Where is the Igbo spirit, ụmụnne m? It is unfortunate that the majority of those who foment these troubles are not indigenous to Orsu but have garnered collaborators and enablers among the locals either through fear, persuasion, financial inducements and made to swear to devilish oaths of secrecy.
"It is time to synergize and put an end to the siege in Orsu LGA and liberate our people who are worse hit by the economic downturn occasioned by the ravaging insecurity. For the enablers and cheerers, It is time for the needed retrospect, soul-searching to interrogate the process so far by weighing the gains and losses."

Adamu Aliyu was said to have been killed alongside four others near Daku village in Dobi ward of the council on Thursday.
The Secretary of MACBAN, Mohammed Usman, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust on Sunday, said three persons were kidnapped, while three others who sustained gunshot wounds were receiving treatment at the University of Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada.

Not to mention transgenders, who require lifetime hormone treatments.
I recently talked to a fellow who turned out to be an army recruiter and asked him about transgenders who tried to join. He said that under current regulations, the only prescription medication you can be on is birth control pills. So unless that is rescinded, someone who is transgender can't join. Of course, they could join and then transition, I suppose.

I used to wonder how people could have been so fooled throughout different wars in history. Now I get it. It's pure propaganda 24 hours a day from every direction. The truth can not be found. All by design. What a mess. It's pretty clear who the bad guys are here, but if you don't get on your knees and plead your ever loving allegiance to Ukraine you'll get shouted down in the west. Madness.

[YouTube] The Vladimir Putin-led invasion of Ukraine has been an ominous threat to the Western world for years. Now that it’s fully under way and being met with stiffer Ukrainian resistance than the Russians were expecting, the reasons for Putin’s continued aggression in the face of monumental losses, mounting sanctions from the rest of the world, and the unexpected solidarity of the West seem ill-advised. What does Putin see for the road ahead that we in the West do not?
On this episode, we discuss the developing situation with Peter Zeihan, a geopolitical strategist and author of The Absent Superpower, The Accidental Superpower, Disunited Nations, and the upcoming The End of the World is Just the Beginning: Mapping the Collapse of Globalization. Here, we examine how the current Russia-Ukraine conflict became a “now or never” option for Putin, the downsides for Russia if it “wins” and what we expect its next steps to be, what NATO is doing to avoid turning this into a nuclear-escalated World War III, why Putin’s actions leading up to this point in time don’t bode well for Russia in any scenario, and what a country like China with expansionist goals of its own might take away from Russia’s hard-earned lessons.
For those who prefer reading to watching, the transcript of the interview can be seen here.

I used to be a Zeihan fan, but now I'm very dissatisfied. Zeihan knows for a fact the circumstances that led to the war: a colossal failure of American diplomacy, the US-led 2014 coup that put Nazis into power, the infamous "Fuck the EU" call where Viceroy Nuland arranges Ukraine's government without their knowledge or consent. Ignore Kissinger. Ignore Mearsheimer. Ignore Kennan. Ignore every single one of your ambassadors, CIA station chiefs, historians and scholars of international relations. Zeihan has been on point in the past but this can be nothing but deliberate disinformation from a man who knows better.
[FoxBusiness] The chairman of Vietnam’s Vingroup conglomerate said on Saturday that the company’s auto unit, VinFast, would seek financing from the U.S. government to support its expansion with a planned plant in North Carolina.

VinFast said this week that its Singapore-based holding company had filed for an initial public offering (IPO) with U.S. securities regulators, as the company readies a $4-billion investment to build a factory in the United States.
VinFast, which began operations in 2019, is betting big on the U.S. market, where it hopes to compete with legacy automakers and startups with two all-electric SUVs and a battery leasing model that will reduce the purchase price.
Vuong said VinFast was committed to an IPO that would help establish the electric vehicle maker as a global brand, but added: "if the conditions are not right we can wait."
"We ourselves are determined to push and committed to this IPO, but the highest target for the IPO is not financing but to set up VinFast in the global market," he told the group

Considering the Bidet regime's dislike of Elon Musk and the opportunities for graft, I'd say Vingroup is a shoe-in. Even sorta sounds like Vindman. A coincidence?

Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatiana Moskalkova confirmed on Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had carried out a prisoner exchange on Saturday.
Moskalkova said that among those who returned to Russia were four employees of state atomic energy corporation Rosatom, soldiers and some other civilians.
"Early this morning they landed on Russian soil," Moskalkova said in an online post.
On Saturday an exchange of truck drivers between Russia and Ukraine was also conducted, Moskalkova said, with 32 Russian truck drivers, 20 Ukrainians and a number of Belarus nationals exchanged.
Ukraine Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk had said on Saturday that 12 of its soldiers were being returned after a prisoner exchange with Russia, the third such swap since the start of the conflict.
Vereshchuk said that 14 civilians were also returning to Ukraine as part of the deal.
Moscow has denied targeting civilians in what it calls a "special military operation" aimed at demilitarizing its neighbor. Ukraine and its Western allies call this a baseless pretext for war.

[Rudaw] The body of a young Iraqi man, who was rubbed out, was found by the internal security forces (Asayish) in the notorious al-Hol camp in northeast Syria (Rojava), a conflict monitor reported on Sunday.
The victim was a young Iraqi man who was killed by a weapon with a silencer in the fourth section of the infamous camp, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.
North Press Agency (NPA) also reported the incident, saying the body had "signs of four gunshots."
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested thousands of Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (ISIS) fighters and their wives and children when they took control of the group’s last stronghold in Syria in March 2019. Most of these people are held at al-Hol, which is home to around 56,000 people — mostly women and kiddies of different
Al-Hol has infamously been branded a breeding ground for terrorism, with Kurdish and Iraqi authorities describing the squalid camp as a "ticking time bomb," saying the situation in the camp is "very dangerous."
ISIS sleeper cells are active in the camp and multiple deaths have been reported over the past months.
In late March, security forces in Rojava arrested a suspect allegedly planning a suicide kaboom in the camp.
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Several people were maimed in a car explosion in the Syrian city of al-Bab, which is under control of Ottoman Turkish occupation forces and its terrorist mercenaries in northeastern Aleppo countryside, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported, citing local sources.
According to the local sources, an bomb planted in a car went off near one of the checkpoints of the Ottoman Turkish occupation mercenaries at the entrance to the city, wounding several people and causing material damage to property.
In the areas of Syria still illegally occupied by terrorist groups backed by the Ottoman Turkish invaders, chaos and lawlessness is rampant as a result of conflicts taking place between various groups.

Kind of hard to determine who the journalist believes are the terrorists in this incident. It reminds me of a song from Team America. Maybe they will stop the violence and just make a quilt.
Probably not.

Ottoman Turkish occupation mercenaries
Could be ISIS, could be Kurds, could be local Syrian Arab tribesman. Could be a different Turkic client group of Turkey that got in a snit over shared quarters or something, and decided to get kinetic about it, as so often happens l
