Coronavirus Jumps the Border, Overwhelming Hospitals in California
[NYT] "We worked hard to flatten the curve in California," said Carmela Coyle, president of the California Hospital Association, who issued an appeal to hospital systems across the state for help. "Now we have a surge in the Imperial Valley because the situation is so severe in Mexicali."

Other parts of the border, including San Diego County, also have been scrambling with a wave of patients from Baja California, the state adjacent to California. Border towns in Arizona are experiencing an increase in infections that health officials believe is tied to people coming in from Sonora state.

"Our E.R. is used to receiving patients from Mexico for things like complications from bariatric surgery and plastic surgery, and alternative cancer care, but this pandemic has brought a whole different dynamic," said Juan Tovar, physician operations executive at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista, across the border from Tijuana, which has been hard hit by the pandemic.

"We’re seeing Covid patients arrive at our E.R. who are very ill, whose disease has progressed to an advanced stage because care wasn’t readily available in Baja California," he said.

The border influx is likely the reason that Chula Vista has more cases per capita than San Diego, a city five times larger.

Germany disbands elite special forces unit over right-wing extremist concerns
[FoxNews] Germany’s defense minister disbanded a company of special forces on Wednesday, saying a culture of right-wing extremism had been allowed to develop behind a “wall of secrecy.”

Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer told reporters that “toxic leadership” in the company was found to have fostered an extreme right attitude among some members of the Kommando Spezialkraefte, or KSK, unit.

Some of the 70 soldiers in the unit will be distributed among the KSK's other three combat companies, while “those who made clear they are part of the problem and not part

It comes at a time of broader concerns that Germany has not done enough to tackle right-wing extremism within its Bundeswehr military in general.

Kramp-Karrenbauer emphasized, however, that she felt reform was the right course rather than the dissolution of the entire unit, saying “we need the KSK.

“The vast majority of the men and women in the KSK and in the Bundeswehr as a whole are loyal to our constitution, with no ifs or buts,” she said.

The KSK was formed as an army unit in 1996 with a focus on anti-terrorism operations and hostage rescues from hostile areas. It has served in Afghanistan and the Balkans and its operations are kept secret.

Military investigators have been looking into the unit since a group of public German broadcasters reported in 2017 that at a going-away party, members displayed the Hitler salute, listened to right-wing extremist music and participated in a game that involved tossing a pig’s head. In January, the military reported 20 soldiers are under suspicion of being right-wing extremists.

In May, the head of the unit, Brig. Gen. Markus Kreitmayr, told soldiers that he wouldn’t tolerate extremism in the ranks.

That month, Kramp-Karrenbauer established an independent commission to investigate the KSK and propose reforms, after a cache of weapons, explosives and munitions were found at one of the suspected extremist's homes in Saxony which she said revealed a “new dimension” to the problem.

She said the investigation has revealed “grave deficiencies” in the unit's record-keeping and that there were many missing items, including ammunition and explosives. It was not clear whether the munitions were used, left behind after deployments, or pilfered, she said.

“We cannot rule any of these out and are not,” she said.

A general inventory has been ordered, to include all KSK equipment and supplies.

Italian police seize a record 1 billion euros worth of amphetamine pills 'made by ISIS' hidden in container ship
    [Daily Mail]
    • Police discovered 84 million pills of the drug Captagon in three container ships

    • It is known as the 'drug of the Jihad' and is widespread in wartorn countries

    • The amphetamine provides the Islamic State with revenue to finance militancy

    • Captagon is known as the 'drug of the Jihad' after being found in militant hideouts, including one used by the Islamists who killed 90 people at the Bataclan theatre in Paris in 2015

    • Italian authorities believe the coronavirus lockdown across Europe has hindered the production and distribution of synthetic drugs, forcing traffickers to organise shipments from Syria to fill the market.

    • Police say they're investigating if Naples-based Camorra organized crime clans might have ordered the huge shipment for international sale.

    • Two weeks earlier a much smaller shipment of the drug was also seized in Salerno's port in a shipment of counterfeit clothing. In that raid, investigators one million Captagon pills as well as 2,800kg of hashish.

    -Land of the Free
Conservative Lauren Boebert Unseats Five-Term Republican Scott Tipton

[Breitbart] Five-term Rep. Scott Tipton (R-CO), who was backed by President Donald Trump, lost his primary to Lauren Boebert, the owner of Shooters Grill in Colorado.

Dave Wasserman, the editor of the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, called the primary for Boebert over Tipton in Colorado’s third district Republican primary.

The primary serves as another primary loss for Trump, who had endorsed Tipton over Boebert.

He wrote on Monday, "Congressman @ScottRTipton is a great supporter of the #MAGA Agenda! He fights for your #2A rights and the Border Wall. Scott is working hard for Colorado and has my Complete and Total Endorsement!"

Boebert is a 32-year-old gun-rights activist, the owner of the Garfield County Shooters Grill. Boebert has charged that Tipton has not successfully fought off leftist policies in Washington, DC.

Wasserman said on Tuesday night that the district voted for Trump in 2016 by 12 points over Hillary Clinton, meaning that Democrat candidate Diane Mitsch Bush would have a tough time taking the district. Mitsch Bush lost to Tipton during the 2018 midterm elections.

Boebert gained public attention after she defied public health orders when she reopened in-restaurant dining in May. She subsequently lost her restaurant license.

Boebert’s victory over Tipton serves as Trump’s third primary loss.
This shouldn't be seen as a repudiation of Trump, it should be seen as the locals being finally fed up with their entrenched politicians that don't really support them and thus their firing. These are local house seats and is a local fight.
Conservative outsider Bob Good unseated Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-VA) in June despite the House Freedom Caucus backing Riggleman over Good. Good managed to defeat Riggleman by focusing on reducing legal immigration.

"As Americans are trying to get back to work, they have to compete with hundreds of thousands of foreign workers who will take lower wages and take our jobs," Good told Breitbart News in May.

Conservative millennial Madison Cawthorn then defeated Lynda Bennet, who was endorsed by the House Freedom Fund, the Senate Conservative Fund, the American Conservative Union (ACU), and other influential D.C. conservatives.

In 2016, Bennett reportedly declared herself a "never Trump person."

Boebert tweeted on Tuesday before the primary election that she will continue to fight against the rising tide of socialism in America.

She wrote, "America didn’t just happen. Our founders fought hard to create this incredible country. We’re not going to let it fall to socialists!"
I lived in that area and graduated from school in Glenwood. Republicans/independents there just voted for another giant FU to the establishment with this. While I liked Tipton and appreciated a lot of what he did, he has been getting a bit swampy the past few years. Which is why he lost. If the Republican party does not grow a backbone and stand up to the communists, expect a lot more defeats. They really need to get over being the stupid party and pulling defeat from the jaws of victory.

PS. Riggleman defeated himself choosing to vote multiple times with Dems and very loudly presiding over a gay wedding in his guise as congressman. He also voiced less than saluatory opinions about his constituents. Another man who made it plain that the approval of DC and Charlottesville were more important than the concerns of his actual district.

ISIS militants launch fresh riots at Hasaka prison
    [Rudaw] Suspected Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) faceless myrmidons rioted inside a prison in Hasaka province on Monday, the latest of several disturbances at the facility.

Detainees at Sanaa prison, run by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Hasaka’s Geweran neighborhood reportedly began rioting on Monday night.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that a riot erupted as prisoners demanded "fair trials" and to see their families.
Y’all are captured prisoners of war, guys, or possibly land pirates, not arrested criminals. You don’t get criminal trials but courts martial, or to be held until your government negotiates a formal surrender... or the governments of the nations you left to become ISIS Lions of Islam henchmen decide to bring you home. Except that the ISIS government is dead or fleeing, while the nations you left do not want your poisonous selves.
According to SOHR, the prisoners tried to break down the walls and doors of the prison, with "casualties" reported.

US-led coalition helicopters were flying over the city at "low altitude", the monitor added.

The prison has seen several disturbances in recent months, with two riots taking place in March. More riots took place in May.

Somewhere between 3,000-5000 prisoners from around 50 nationalities are held in the prison, most of whom were detained by Kurdish and coalition forces in the last ISIS stronghold of Baghouz in March 2019.

There are currently more than 10,000 suspected ISIS members held in SDF prisons across northeast Syria.

Syria’s official state news agency SANA reported that the riot erupted after a "senior US official" visited the prison.

SDF-affiliated new agency NPA shared footage of military reinforcements arriving at the prison to control the scene.

Kurdish forces have repeatedly called on the international community to take responsibility for foreign ISIS faceless myrmidons held in SDF-run prisons, as well as their families housed in nearby camps.

"We believe that the international coalition forces and the international community have a responsibility to find a solution to the issue of detained ISIS members, provide more support for greater security measures, and improve the conditions of detainees inside prisons in northern and eastern Syria," SDF spokesperson Kino Gabriel said on May 3.

Munich Prosecutors Raid Wirecard Offices As Probe Into $2BN Accounting Fraud Heats Up
[ZH & CNBC] The German leadership has already scapegoated an industry group, the Financial Reporting Enforcement Panel, over the Wirecard disaster in the hope that the appearance of reform might be enough to placate Brussels and ESMA after Germany's most powerful financial regulator, BaFin, was exposed as virtually complicit in the biggest corporate accounting fraud in the country's post-war history.

But as prosecutors continue to build their case and demonstrate to the German public (and the world, and most importantly Brussels) that they're taking the Wirecard investigation extremely seriously, officers stormed several offices belonging to Wirecard, including the company's headquarters.

Here's more on that from [CNBC]:

Munich prosecutors and police searched Wirecard’s headquarters and four further properties as part of a fraud probe following the arrest of the payments firm’s former chief executive, Markus Braun, prosecutors said on Wednesday.

Twelve prosecutors and 33 police officers were involved in the raids to investigate suspected fraud, including market manipulation, prosecutors said.

A spokeswoman told Reuters that prosecutors were investigating board members Alexander von Knoop and Susanne Steidl, as well as Braun and former director Jan Marsalek. Those people could not be immediately reached for comment.

Wirecard CEO/mastermind Markus Braun, meanwhile, remains out on bail.

    Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US will fight, but Iran arms embargo is on death row - analysis
[JPost] - The battle between the US and Iran — over whether the decade-old conventional arms embargo on the Islamic Republic remains past its scheduled expiration in October — is about two much bigger issues.

The first is nuclear weapons; the second is how much power the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps can project in the region — and not just arms sales in the abstract.

As such, the positions of the various UN Security Council members at Tuesday’s debate, where US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo pushed to extend the arms embargo past October, reflected their positions on the multidimensional issues in the US-Iran standoff.

If Israel was rooting for the US initiative and hoped that some recent anti-Iran moves by neutral UN agencies might help, Tuesday’s UNSC hearing made the strategy look like a lost cause.

China and Russia did not merely oppose Pompeo’s initiative.

They also audaciously rejected the conclusion of officials from the UN Secretary General’s Office: that drones and cruise missiles which were used to attack Saudi Arabia in September 2019 — and seized off the coast of Yemen in February — were Iranian in origin.

...China and Russia feel compelled to contradict any findings against Iran’s nuclear program or non-conventional arms, even when the conclusions come from neutral UN agencies.

In their eyes — willfully ignoring the Islamic Republic’s violence in the region from 2015-2018 — all the current tension is the fault of the US for pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal in May 2018.

    Nobody is all bad!
[RedState] More Violence in the CHOP: Radical Leftists Surround Fox Crew, Allegedly Assault Reporter.

Fox News correspondent Dan Springer and his crew had a run in with the radical leftists in CHOP
...formerly known as CHAZ, and before that as Seattle...
when they went to the zone in Seattle to do some location shooting.
It seems they did not quietly leave in the night, as previously reported.
But according to Fox, he was having trouble with the shot because of the “filthy language” being used by the radicals which he told his producer. According to Fox, it was then that one of them shoved him and threw a hot cup of coffee in his face and on his jacket. You can see the apparent altercation here where he was clearly assaulted and he didn’t start the contact. Yet reality didn’t seem to matter and it degenerated from there.

Springer and the crew then tried to leave in their car, but they were surrounded by people demanding that he apologize to the woman, claiming he pushed her.

They then followed the crew to their car and wouldn’t let them leave. The woman claiming that he pushed her jumped on top of his car, others surrounded the car and wouldn’t let them leave. One man even laid down in front of the car, as they agitatedly demanded he apologize to the woman.

Part Three On The Roger Stone Trial ‐ Where Prosecutor Aaron Zelinsky Explains That He Didn't Understand His Job
[RedState] Part Three below looks more closely at the actual sentencing proceeding, the activity of Zelinsky & Company as part of that sentencing process, and the degree to which their actions actually deviated from DOJ policy notwithstanding Zelinsky’s loud protests to the House Judiciary Committee and to the media that the prosecutors were subjected to improper political interference.

The truth of the matter — if you understand the process — is that Zelinsky & Company proposed what is known as and “objectively unreasonable” sentence when they asked the Court to sentence a 67 year old first time offender to over 7 years in federal prison rather than a more typical term of between 2 and 4 years — largely because of hyperbolic and rhetorical “threats” made by Stone to someone who was a “frenemy.”

    -Lurid Crime Tales-
IRS Whistleblower Explains Why No One in the FBI or the DOJ Spoke up for General Flynn
    Red State
...sources familiar with the Durham investigation told Fox News that John Durham had reviewed the Flynn documents and was disturbed that no whistleblowers came forward early on. Considering that there were more than a few officials who had to be aware of what was going on, including support staff, Mr. Durham found it remarkable that no one spoke up "at the onset." One would think he might have learned by now that the only use members of the deep state have for whistleblowing is when it can be used as a weapon against the right. I posted on this story here.

The next day, I received an email from one of my readers who said he could easily answer Mr. Durham’s question. It’s because "No one in the FBI or the DOJ wanted to engage in a futile suicide mission that would put them and their families through years of hell, cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars, and put their pensions at risk, all so that their information could be ignored."

William Henck knows, because he lived it.

Mr. Henck’s story is the polar opposite of alleged whistleblower Eric Ciaramella’s, whose bogus complaint to then-Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson last August triggered President Trump’s impeachment. Not only did my reader not receive the kid-glove treatment Ciaramella did, he was terminated from his position as an IRS attorney after 30 years of service.

In November 2017, Mr. Henck was forced out for being a whistleblower. During his career at the IRS, he reported the bullying of World War II veterans, evidence of a cover-up in the Lois Lerner (or Tea Party) case, and the improper giveaway of literally billions of dollars to taxpayers represented by sketchy Washington lobbyists.

Mr.Henck said he reported his concerns both internally and externally, to his supervisor, to upper management, to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), to the Office of Special Counsel (OSC), to Congress, to Trump political appointees in the Treasury Department, and to the media. And none of his detailed complaints of misconduct were ever investigated. Not a single one.

...Sadly, Mr. Henck’s story, as disturbing as it is, is what happens when government officials blow the whistle on corruption inside of the federal government. Whistleblowers face an amoral foe with unlimited resources and a willingness to lie.

On Behalf Of Environmentalists, I Apologize For The Climate Scare
[EnvironmentalProgress] On behalf of environmentalists everywhere, I would like to formally apologize for the climate scare we created over the last 30 years. Climate change is happening. It’s just not the end of the world. It’s not even our most serious environmental problem.

I may seem like a strange person to be saying all of this. I have been a climate activist for 20 years and an environmentalist for 30.

But as an energy expert asked by Congress to provide objective expert testimony, and invited by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to serve as Expert Reviewer of its next Assessment Report, I feel an obligation to apologize for how badly we environmentalists have misled the public.

Seattle's moonbat mayor brings up possibility of expulsion of socialist councilwoman for ‘political theatre'
[Twitchy] We’ve written about Seattle City Councilwoman Kashama Sawant,
...properly spelt Kshama Sawant, according to Wikipedia, this immigrant from India claims she was so shocked by the poverty she saw when she arrived here that she gave up a career in software engineering to study economics. Kshama is not merely a Socialist, but an old-fashioned, full-bore (in both senses, I suspect) Trotskyite. She got her start in Seattle politics as an organizer for the local branch of Occupy Wall Street, which explains her enthusiasm for the current CHAZ/CHOP nonsense...
who’s a full-on socialist and heavily invested in the success of the tiny nation of CHOP: she blamed the first fatal shooting there on President Trump and the second on capitalism and its brutality. She’s also the one who unlocked the doors of city hall at the height of the George Floyd protests to let the protesters take over the building.

That last stunt has her in hot water with Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan, who isn’t a full-blown socialist but is also heavily invested in CHOP, likening it to a “block party,” albeit one with a body count. Reports are that Durkan has had enough of Sawant and is seeking her possible expulsion from city council:

    Afghanistan
9 Victims of Sangin Incident Members of Same Family
[ToloNews] Nine victims of the 27 people killed in the artillery attack in Sangin district in the southern province of Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
were members of one family, according to locals who talked to TOLOnews on Tuesday.

The UN mission in Afghanistan also said that based on its "initial" and "impartial" findings, the Afghan National Army mortars inflicted heavy civilian casualties Monday at a market in Sangin and that "multiple credible sources assert that the army fired lethal mortars in response to Taliban
    ...Arabic for students...
    fire, missing intended target."

Eight members of the family were laid to rest on Monday, while another member, who sustained injuries in the attack, succumbed to his wounds and was laid to rest on Tuesday, according to TOLOnews’ Abdullah Achakzai who visited the incident scene on Tuesday.

Abdullah said the signs of the attack were still visible in the area, along with the belonging of the victims left at the scene following the incident.

"This is the eight martyred from our family," said Sayed Mohammad, a relative of the victims, referring to their remains.

"Why are they oppressing us? if you want to fire, go and fire it at another place. No firing occurred from our area, on the day of the incident, no bullet was fired from our area," said Mohammad Naseer, a relative of the victims.

Most parts of Sangin district, particularly the place where the shells hit, are under Taliban control, according to locals.

The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission also said that the area is under Taliban control and that 27 people were killed and 35 others were maimed in the incident.

Some eyewitnesses also said the mortars were fired by Afghan army, calling for a thorough investigation into the incident.

"This is not the first, second or third time-- we face this situation all the time, we don’t have any other option except to act on our own," said Allah Dad, an eyewitness.

"Nothing has been fired from our area," said Attaullah, another eyewitness.

Helmand officials said a delegation has been assigned to find the perpetrators behind the incident.

"A probe team has been tasked to find out whether this incident was carried out by the Taliban or if it was carried out by the division (Afghan army division), the incident will be investigated seriously," said Mujahidullah Safari, the deputy governor of Helmand.

The incident happened on Monday morning when the locals were busy attending a local festival in a market in Sangin district — a district that has witnessed heavy festivities between government forces and the Taliban over the last 18 years.

Watchdog: ANA Counterattack Resulted in Civilian Deaths in Sangin

[ToloNews] The Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) on Tuesday said its findings indicate that the Afghan cops, while responding to an attack by the Taliban
    ...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
    in Sangin district of Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
, caused massive civilian casualties by firing artillery that hit a marketplace.

The commission said that at least 27 civilians--including children--were killed and 35 more were maimed after the security forces launched a counter-attack on the Taliban Death Eaters in Sangin.

"The incident happened as a result of the counter-attack by the Afghan military forces, the Afghan government needs to initiate a transparent investigation into the attack," said Naeem Nazari, the deputy head of the AIHRC.

    Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, Odius Sepulcher called for war against the Visigoths...
General Wali Ahmad Ahmadzai, the commander of 215 Maiwand Army Corps, has said that the army is ready to investigate the incident in Sangin in a thorough way.

"An investigation team has been tasked and we welcome it, we are ready to provide any sort of clarification on this issue, we strongly reject civilian casualties," said Wali Ahmad Ahmadzai, the commander of 215 Maiwand Army Corps

of killing and wounding 24 civilians per day in Afghanistan since earlier in the year.

Faisal called for a reduction in violence in the country.

"The success of the Doha deal and peace in Afghanistan requires an immediate reduction in violence and the start of direct talks," Faisal tweeted.

    Cyber
Knoxville police regain access to computer system following ransomware attack
[KNOXNEWS] The Knoxville Police Department regained use of its in-car computers more than two weeks after a ransomware attack shuttered the reporting system the officers use.

KPD previously announced officers would not respond to car crashes unless they involved injury or a disabled vehicle blocking traffic because they couldn't access their electronic reporting system.

Having officers return to "normal protocol" is another step in the city ridding itself and its systems from the ransomware attack. Late last week, officials said they do not intend on paying the ransom associated with the cyber attack and said they expected to have systems running in the next 10 days or so.

In a ransomware attack, cybercriminals gain access to computer files, lock them down and demand payment to restore access. Generally, as was the case with Knoxville, the hackers demand payment in bitcoin which is free of tracking by banks or governments. The city has declined to say how much the ransom is.

Thirteen Nineteen people were killed and several were injured in an explosion at a medical clinic in the north of Tehran
More on this story from yesterday.
    [PUBLISH.TWITTER]
Nineteen people were killed and over a dozen others were injured in an explosion at a medical clinic in the north of the Iranian capital Tehran, state media reported on Tuesday.

“An explosion and fire broke out at the Sina Athar medical clinic at 8:56 p.m.,” Iran’s emergency services said in a statement carried by the semi-official ISNA news agency..

Fifteen women were and four men were killed, and 14 others were injured, the statement said.

Videos posted online showed thick black smoke rising into the evening sky.

Tehran Deputy Governor Hamid Reza Goudarzi told state TV the explosion was caused by a gas leak, but the Tehran Fire Department spokesman Jalal Maleki ruled out a gas leak as the cause of the incident.

“The initial cause of the explosion on Tuesday will be announced after expert investigations, but oxygen and helium capsules were one of the main causes of the blast,” Maleki said.

“The initial cause of the explosion was not a natural gas leak,” he added.

Last week, another explosion took place close to a sensitive military site near Tehran which a defence ministry spokesman told state TV was caused by a tank leak at a gas storage facility.

University of California SF pays ransomware hackers $1.14 million to salvage research
[ZDNET] The University of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, at the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
(UCSF) has admitted to paying a partial ransom demand of $1.14 million to recover files locked down by a ransomware infection.

The university was struck on June 1, where malware was found in the UCSF School of Medicine's IT systems. Administrators quickly attempted to isolate the infection and ringfence a number of systems that prevented the ransomware from traveling to the core UCSF network and causing further damage.

While the school says the cyberattack did not affect "our patient care delivery operations, overall campus network, or COVID-19 work," UCSF servers used by the school of medicine were encrypted.

Ransomware can be particularly destructive as once a system is compromised, content is encrypted and rendered inaccessible. Victims are then faced with a choice: potentially lose their files, or pay a ransom demand. Cyberattackers will often include a time limit for a decision to be made to ramp up the pressure to pay.

As shown in this case, blackmail demands can reach millions of dollars.

"The attackers obtained some data as proof of their action, to use in their demand for a ransom payment," the university said in a statement. "We are continuing our investigation, but we do not currently believe patient medical records were exposed."

    [PUBLISH.TWITTER]
    Al Ahram adds:
Two "extremely dangerous" gunnies have been killed by Egyptian security forces in a shootout in North Sinai, Egypt’s interior ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

The two terrorists, who were attempting to gather information about security checkpoints in the area as part of a plot to launch a series of attacks, were killed after they fired shots at police who were attempting to apprehend them, according to the statement.

The ministry said that police retrieved from the scene two automatic rifles, ammunition, and a weapon that was stolen by the suspects in an earlier attack on a policeman in August 2017 in North Sinai’s Bir al-Abd.

The interior ministry said it acted upon information gathered by its National Security Bureau that gunnies were scouting North Sinai’s Galbana area in preparation for carrying out attacks against army and police personnel on the seventh anniversary of the 30 June Revolution.

Thousands of U.S. judges who broke laws or oaths remained on the bench
Very long, lots of detail. Not every community chooses their judges well and, sadly, once on the bench they benefit from being part of the in-crowd. Herewith the opening section:
[Reuters] Judge Les Hayes once sentenced a single mother to 496 days behind bars for failing to pay traffic tickets. The sentence was so stiff it exceeded the jail time Alabama allows for negligent homicide.

Marquita Johnson, who was locked up in April 2012, says the impact of her time in jail endures today. Johnson’s three children were cast into foster care while she was incarcerated. One daughter was molested, state records show. Another was physically abused.

Ryan Lizza to McEnany: Does Trump believe 'it was a good thing that the South lost the Civil War?'
[THEHILL] Ryan Lizza, chief Washington correspondent for Politico, asked White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Monday if President Trump believes "it was a good thing that the South lost the Civil War," prompting McEnany to call the question "absolutely absurd."

"I think a lot of people are trying to understand what his view of memorializing the Confederacy is and the proper place of the Confederate flag," Lizza, who also serves as a CNN senior political analyst, said at a White House press briefing. "Does President Trump believe that it was a good thing that the South lost the Civil War?"

"Well, your first question is absolutely absurd. He's proud of the United States of America," McEnany responded.

Lizza also asked if Trump had any plans to ban the Confederate flag at his rallies, similar to NASCAR's decision earlier this month following the May 25 police killing of George Floyd that sparked mass protests across the country.

"That would be a question for his campaign," McEnany said before citing a recent Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey that she said underscored the president's position on "preserving our history."

Joe Biden rips Trump over coronavirus, calls reporter ‘lying dog face’
[NYPOST] Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created ... by the — you know — you know, the thing...
upbraided President Trump for his response to the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
pandemic during a stump speech on Tuesday where he took questions from news hounds for the first time since March — and called one of them a "lying dog face."

Appearing before a giant American flag at a school in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, the former veep accused Trump of squandering the three months since the virus first arrived on US shores and said the country was no better prepared than in March.

"It’s almost July and it seems our wartime president has surrendered, waved the white flag and abandoned the battlefield," said Biden, 77.

"We don’t need a cheerleader, Mr. President. We need a president, Mr. President," he added.

The presumptive Democratic nominee outlined his plans for dealing with the pandemic as the nation experiences a troubling surge of new infections, including doubling the number of testing sites and fixing ongoing shortages in protective gear.

Biden, who has been stuck at his Wilmington home during the pandemic, also took questions from news hounds for the first time in months after the Trump campaign accused him of hiding.

But the gaffe-prone former politician lashed out when one news hound mentioned his own mental deterioration at age 65 and asked Biden if he had been tested for cognitive decline.

"You’re a lying dog face," Biden said, apparently irritated that the news hound kept asking questions as he tried to leave the event, before adding that he was "constantly tested."

"All you gotta do is watch me and I can hardly wait to compare my cognitive capability to the cognitive capability of the man I’m running against," he said.

The former veep infamously called a college student a "lying dog-faced pony soldier" at a campaign event in New Hampshire in February, an experience she described as "humiliating."

Biden also attacked Trump’s own cognitive abilities — a line of attack usually deployed by the Trump campaign against him — when quizzed on reports the president was briefed but failed to act on intelligence that Russia had paid Talibs to kill US troops, a claim the White House has denied.

Susan Rice 'humbled and honored' by rumors Biden considering her for VP

[THEHILL] Former national security adviser Susan Rice said Monday that she is "humbled and honored" to be considered as a possible running mate for former Vice President Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...Failed seeker of the Democratic presidential nomination on multiple occasions, vice president under Barack Obama, giving it a last try in his dotage for 2020...
. Asked by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow if she is "in talks with the Biden campaign," Rice responded: "To the extent that it is reported that I am under consideration in a serious way for the vice president slot, let me just say that I’m extremely humbled and honored to be talked about in the context of so many extraordinary women."

"All I care about is getting Joe Biden elected president of the United States so that we again have competent, compassionate, loyal, effective leadership in the White House and flipping the Senate so that the Democrats control the Senate so we can pursue an agenda of healing for this country, one that tries to address the extraordinary racial and socioeconomic disparities that have been plain for all to see and that can restore our global leadership," Rice continued.

Despite Trump’s Calls to Decouple, U.S. Companies Ship More From China Faster
Looks like President Trump wants to decouple from China but congress critters and some businesses are not enthused. Wonder why? /rhetorical question

Consider the voyage of the container ship Melina, which set sail Wednesday from a Chinese port near Shenzhen with products bound for U.S. households, a hulking symbol of how the flow of goods is adapting in a global economy crippled by a pandemic.

#11  Wages are already artificially low. You cannot defy supply and demand. Congress has worked/bent over very hard to increase the labor supply with incredible levels of immigration and work visas (often leading to more even green cards).

The artificially increased unemployment due to massive outsourcing has gutted towns and cities and has lead to masses of unemployed young people who riot and loot on the drop of a dime.
    Posted by: Shating Turkeyneck1016 || 07/01/2020 11:30 Comments || Top||

#12  It might appear that tariffs hurt US consumers. That is a short term way of looking at the world. I assure you, allowing communists to sell us "cheap" goods that we entirely rely on and give them a stranglehold over our nation, while depressing the national economy, hurts us far more. It is IMPOSSIBLE for free workers to compete with slaves. That is what is just not computing in the minds of most free market capitalists. The Chinese workers are not free workers. They are slaves, paid in wages that are artificially low and forced to "buy" goods that their masters tell them to buy. No free nation could ever compete with workers that work essentially for free. Tariffs will make it more expensive to buy things, yes. But it will also make us more able to resist the Chinese when they demand that we also bend our knees.

Yep, items will be more expensive, but with people employed that means taxes for those unemployed and their associated programs drop and the need for the bureaucracy that run those programs. Consider that as 'overhead' in your calculations in 'costs'. If you haven't noticed, bureaucracy is really expensive (just look at those pensions).

‘You’re next’: Armed St. Louis couple speaks out about what really happened and it doesn’t fit left’s narrative one bit
[BIZPACREVIEW] The armed St. Louis couple who protected their home from a Black Lives Matter invasion said the thugs threatened to kill them and their dog after trespassing on their private property by cutting through an iron gate. Mark McCloskey, 63, and his wife Patricia, 61, said they had no choice but to resort to their Second-Amendment right to self-defense because the police didn’t show up after they frantically called 911 begging for help.

The McCloskeys said they only retrieved their guns when they saw that the mob who had trespassed on their property were themselves armed and began threatening to hurt them.

"This is all private property. There are no public sidewalks or public streets," McCloskey told KMOV4. "We were told that we would be killed, our home burned and our dog killed. We were all alone facing an angry mob."

Mississippi Gov. Defends Armed Couple: ‘Totally Within Their Rights’

[BREITBART] Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves (R) spoke up for the armed couple who stood outside their home to keep protesters away by saying they were "totally within their rights."

Reeves used a Facebook post to say:

The media is swarming to attack a couple in Missouri for brandishing firearms while telling protestors to leave their property. It’s become a huge national story. Maybe this group had peaceful intent, but the country has seen a ton of violence. The group entered their gate and marched up to their front door. I think these homeowners were totally within their rights (although they might want to work on trigger discipline).

Reeves added, "Private property still exists in this country and the 2nd Amendment is not for hunting—it’s for self defense."

Breitbart News reported that Mark McCloskey and his wife grabbed guns and stood in front of their home as hundreds of protesters moved through their neighborhood.

    -Lurid Crime Tales-
DOJ official Bruce Ohr meets with Senate Judiciary Committee behind closed doors
[FoxNews] The committee continues its probe of the Russia investigation and FISA abuse.

Justice Department official Bruce Ohr is on Capitol Hill Tuesday, answering questions from the Senate Judiciary Committee behind closed doors, Fox News has learned.

The former associate deputy attorney general is one of dozens of individuals the committee subpoenaed earlier this month as part of their investigation of the Russia probe and the FBI's abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) in obtaining a warrant to conduct surveillance of former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Ohr, who did not answer questions about his meeting while he was on his way to the committee, was a key contact inside the Justice Department for ex-British spy Christopher Steele, who authored an anti-Trump dossier for research firm Fusion GPS as opposition research for Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign. Ohr's wife, Nellie Ohr, worked for Fusion GPS at the time.

That dossier, which remains unverified, was instrumental in obtaining the FISA warrant for Page, according to a report from Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz.

Earlier this month, former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein testified that he would not have signed a FISA warrant renewal application for Carter Page had he known about since-revealed "significant errors" in the application.

A transcript of a closed-door meeting Nellie Ohr had with the House Judiciary Committee in 2019 revealed that she had worked extensively on opposition research for Clinton's campaign, although she largely did not work on the dossier itself.

The transcript also confirmed that Bruce and Nellie Ohr met with Steele at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. the day before the FBI launched its investigation into the Trump campaign, known as Crossfire Hurricane.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., has said he wants to get to the bottom of what happened behind the scenes of the Russia investigation, particularly regarding the use of the dossier. Graham has often pointed to Steele's sub-source, who said the information in the dossier was unreliable, and questioned who among FBI and DOJ leadership was aware of this.

"I can't believe the FBI is that poorly run," Graham told "Hannity" earlier this month, "that [during] the most important investigation in 30 years of a sitting president that nobody told the top of the FBI, 'Oh, by the way, our case fell apart.'"

Global Hydroxychloroquine Study To Resume After Positive Trial Results
UK regulators have approved the resumption of a global trial aimed at determining whether hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are effective in preventing COVID-19 infections in healthcare settings, according to Reuters.

The trial, known as COPCOV, was paused after another British study found the drugs to be ineffective in treating the virus, however the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has now allowed the research to resume following positive COPCOV trial results.

"Participants will take the study drugs each day for a period of three months, and will be followed closely to see how well the drug is tolerated, whether they contract the virus, and if they do, whether they develop mild or more severe COVID-19," according to Tropical Health Network.

According to Reuters, COPCOV is a "randomised, placebo-controlled trial that is aiming to enrol 40,000 healthcare workers and other at-risk staff around the world," conducted by Oxford University's Bangkok-based Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU).

The study is funded in part by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Unsurprisingly, their website makes no mention of the inclusion of zinc - largely credited by pro-HCQ physicians as the key ingredient to the treatment.

    Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Why Hezbollah went after the US Ambassador to Lebanon
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] In an unprecedented move, a Lebanese judge banned local and foreign media based in Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
from reporting on comments or statements made by the US Ambassador to Lebanon Dorothy Shea. The ban itself can’t stop the ambassador from making statements, but if it had received the approval and support of the Lebanese government, mainly the Ministry of Information, it could’ve been used as a serious tool to target media and what is left of freedom of expression in Lebanon. The judge who issued the ban — Mohammad Mazeh — is based in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre — and is known for his connection to Hezbollah and Amal. His decision came against the backdrop of an interview the ambassador gave to Al Arabiya’s TV channel, al-Hadath, saying that Hezbollah is threatening Lebanon’s stability and preventing economic solutions. Mazeh reportedly issued the ban after receiving a complaint from a citizen who was concerned the ambassador’s comments were "insulting to the Lebanese people."

In a defiant step against this ruling, many Lebanese media outlets and TV channels continued to broadcast interviews with Shea, and the Minister of Information Manal Abdel-Samad did not approve the ruling, saying that she understands "judicial concern over foreign diplomats interfering in internal affairs, but that disputes with media must be resolved through proper legal channels."

    Russiagate's Last Gasp
[Consortium News] One can read this most recent flurry of Russia, Russia, Russia paid the Taliban
    ...Arabic for students...
to kill GIs as an attempt to pre-empt the findings into Russiagate’s origins.
I barely paused over this story. It just felt like it came out of left field.
On Friday The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

featured a report based on anonymous intelligence officials that the Russians were paying bounties to have U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan with President Donald Trump
...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons......
refusing to do anything about it. The flurry of Establishment media reporting that ensued provides further proof, if such were needed, that the erstwhile "paper of record" has earned a new moniker ‐ Gray Lady of easy virtue.
Either they've gone downhill or they've been dowhill and we never noticed because of the propaganda diet we were consuming.
Over the weekend, the Times' dubious allegations grabbed headlines across all media that are likely to remain indelible in the minds of credulous Americans ‐ which seems to have been the main objective. To keep the pot boiling this morning, The New York Times' David Leonhardt's daily web piece, "The Morning" calls prominent attention to a banal article by a Heather Cox Richardson, described as a historian at Boston College, adding specific charges to the general indictment of Trump by showing "how the Trump administration has continued to treat Russia favorably." The following is from Richardson's newsletter on Friday:

    ‐ "On April 1 a Russian plane brought ventilators and other medical supplies to the United States ... a propaganda coup for Russia;
A combination propaganda coup and nice gesture.
‐ "On April 25 Trump raised eyebrows by issuing a joint statement with Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
    commemorating the 75th anniversary of the historic meeting between American and Soviet troops on the bridge of the Elbe River in Germany that signaled the final defeat of the Nazis;
The Russians spend more time and sincerity commemorating the "Great Patriotic War" than we do. That meeting on the Elbe 75 years ago confirmed the Nazi goose was cooked.
    ‐ "On May 3, Trump called Putin and talked for an hour and a half, a discussion Trump called ’very positive';
That's the sort of thing we'd want him to do, isn't it? We used to have people manning a hotline (which was actually a teletype at first) to ensure there weren't any misunderstandings. Now they can call head of state to head of state. A lot less likelihood of Minsk or Dayton going kaboom without warning.
‐ "On May 21, the U.S. sent a humanitarian aid package worth $5.6 million to Moscow to help fight coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
there. The shipment included 50 ventilators, with another 150 promised for the next week; ...
That was repaying the Russian gesture when their own outbreak hit.
‐ "On June 15, news broke that Trump has ordered the removal of 9,500 troops from Germany, where they support NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure....
    against Russian aggression. ..."
That's connected with Germany's laggardliness about paying for the defense we've been providing. Rather than going to Fort Riley, I believe the troops will be going to Poland, where they'll be more appreciated. As an honest Bavarian told me once, for every American driving a tank that was one less German who had to.
    Historian Richardson added:

"All of these friendly overtures to Russia were alarming enough when all we knew was that Russia attacked the 2016 U.S. election and is doing so again in 2020. But it is far worse that those overtures took place when the administration knew that Russia had actively targeted American soldiers. ... this bad news apparently prompted worried intelligence officials to give up their hope that the administration would respond to the crisis, and instead to leak the story to two major newspapers."
Except the story sounded like bullspit.
Hear the siren? Children, get under your desks!

THE TALL TALE ABOUT RUSSIA PAYING FOR DEAD U.S. TROOPS
Times print edition readers had to wait until this morning to learn of Trump's statement last night that he was not briefed on the cockamamie tale about bounties for killing, since it was, well, cockamamie.

Late last night the president tweeted: "Intel just reported to me that they did not find this info credible, and therefore did not report it to me or the VP. ..."....
Well, ever since the Flynn case crashed and burned....

USN Poseidon does ISR off Syria coast
[The Aviationist] An interesting event took place on Jun. 19, 2020, near Syria.

On that day, Cyprus had a NOTAM (Notice To AirMen) up for Russian Navy missile firing exercise off the coast of Tartus, in Syria.

According to the published schedule, firing would take place on multiple days, including Jun. 19, until 1500Z (GMT).

Around 1200Z, a P-8A launched from NAS Sigonella, Sicily, under radio callsign "PS191" (registration unknown) entered the area from the west. Aircraft was on tactical hex AE6840:

DNC: Celebrating July 4th Equals White Supremacy
[THECONSERVATIVETREEHOUSE] Under normal conditions one might expect to identify this moment as the official moment the rubicon of DNC insanity has been crossed. However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
it’s 2020;... therefore as soon as you think the boundaries of DNC
"If you're white you ain't right!"
stupidity have been reached, the DNC will bring out their stupid boundary stretchers.

In a tweet earlier tonight the DNC takes the official position that celebrating the fourth of July is the equivalent of celebrating white supremacy
...the pernicious doctrine that laws were intended to be obeyed, that society works better when people don't pour shreiking from their places of worship every Friday for a weekend of rioting over insults real or imagined; and that cannibalism, beastiality, incest, murder, theft, rape, and similar activities are bad. A Dead White European (which invalidates his opinion) philosopher once opined that societies thrive when a person's word can be relied upon, and that a society which puts individual happiness first will invariably fail. Strangely enough, other successful societies, such as China, Japan, Korea, and those kinds of places could also be lumped with white supremacist societies, since they push the same values...

Anyone who identifies as a party Democrat will now have to rebuke the fourth of July to retain their party position. Additionally, any democrat caught celebrating the Fourth of July holiday will now be joining a celebration of white supremacy.

Popular DC deli apologizes for ‘co-opting Black culture’
[WTOP] Responding to community feedback, a popular D.C. deli has apologized for naming several of its menu items after Black athletes and entertainers.

"As our company’s leaders, we have not done enough to show what we have always known to be true: that Black Lives Matter," said Andrew Dana and Daniela Moreira, owners of Call Your Mother deli, in a statement on their website.

"Although it was never our intention, we now understand that these choices were co-opting Black culture and profiting off it, without truly paying homage."

There were bagel sandwiches on the menu that included the names of famous singer Rihanna and former NBA basketball player Amar’e Stoudemire.

The deli also had photos on the wall of rapper Drake, who is Black and Jewish. Dana and Moreira said they wanted to honor Drake in part to celebrate Jewish diversity.

"Drake is coming off the walls and we are renaming our sandwiches," the owners said.

BLM threatens to burn down Barbecue joint
[WDEF] RED BANK, Tenn.- One local business received backlash this week after they say they were falsely accused of making a political statement with the back the blue rally.

Owners of Shuford’s smoke house say organizers of today’s Back the Blue contacted them to order food for the event.

Shuford’s says they accepted the job because they believed it was another opportunity to offer their catering services.

Once it was publicly known they took the job , the business says they have been harassed and threatened on social media.

"It was not donated . It was not a reflection of our opinions -our political views" said Co-owner Madison Davis.

"It was literally just a business transaction and I think that’s where the misunderstanding comes in. We’ve never discriminated on what jobs we take. If someone comes to us with money wanting to buy food, we’re not going to turn away money because we are a business and that’s what we’re trying to run."

Shuford’s says they cancelled the order because of threats to burn down their business.
