'Makes No Sense': Manchin Blasts Biden for Importing Russian Oil
[Townhall] U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) renewed criticism of President Joe Biden Monday evening in a statement calling for the Biden administration to put its oil money where it's anti-Putin mouth is and stop paying Russia for oil supplies to meet Americans' demand.

"The entire world is watching as Vladimir Putin uses energy as a weapon in an attempt to extort and coerce our European allies," Manchin noted. "While Americans decry what is happening in Ukraine, the United States continues to allow the import of more than half a million barrels per day of crude oil and other petroleum products from Russia during this time of war. This makes no sense at all and represents a clear and present danger to our nation's energy security," he added of the Biden administration's policy toward domestic production.

"The United States can and must ramp up domestic energy production and increase access to our abundant resources and technologies to both protect our energy independence and support our allies around the globe," Manchin said, hammering the point home.

Senator Manchin is, as with several other issues on which he's been vocal, right to criticize the Biden administration for its energy policy. The United States absolutely can build and maintain energy independence — we were during the Trump administration. When the U.S. is energy independent, it also helps our allies who come under threat from tyrants around the globe who otherwise have a monopoly on energy for our NATO and other international partners. But by caving to radical climate alarmists and indulging their alternative energy projects, the Biden administration has made the U.S. subject to the whims of tyrants like Putin and put America's allies in danger of the same.

-Great Cultural Revolution
The Strategic Threat from Net-zero Emissions
This really needed a catchier title.

From Christopher Monckton
[AmericanThinker] The retreat of the United States and her allies before the Chinese-backed Taliban in Afghanistan and the failure of the West’s feeble attempts at diplomacy in the face of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine share a sinister aetiology that has attracted remarkably little attention. A relentless, targeted campaign of desinformatsiya — systematic reputational destruction or "unpersoning" by Communist front groups posing as environmental campaign entities but in reality fostered, funded and too often founded by Moscow and Beijing — has all but silenced thousands of skeptical climate researchers who had formerly been able to debate the climate question in the sunlight of the agora, and has deterred tens of thousands more who would have spoken out in their support but dare not do so.

Goebbels had developed unpersoning as an art-form in the decades before the Nazis took power in Germany. Anyone who had proven successful in denouncing Corporal Hitler was compelled to endure repeated reputational assaults, until very nearly all who valued their reputations fell silent, allowing Hitler to assume power in 1933. In 1945, when the Allies hung back from Berlin to allow Marshal Zhukov the honour of taking the capital of the Reich in recognition of his gallant defence of Stalingrad, it was the then MGB that we permitted to march into the Mitte district, the seat of government at the heart of Berlin. In Mauerstrasse, they captured the Reichspropagandaamt, then the largest office building in Europe.

Goebbels, having swallowed his own propaganda about the Tausendjahriges Reich, had ordered his officials not to destroy the Propaganda Ministry’s records. The Royal Air Force had bombed one wing of the giant office block, but nearly all of the records were intact. They fell into the hands of the MGB. Within a month, the MGB — later the KGB — had come to understand the efficacy of unpersoning. At once, they founded the Desinformatsiya directorate. Its chief task was to unperson everyone, anywhere in the world, who had publicly opposed Soviet Communism.

#1  Some more excerpts:

From then on, the Desinformatsiya directorate, joined by its Chinese equivalent, doubled down on unpersoning anyone, anywhere in the West, who had proven successful in publicly opposing the Party Line on global warming. The unelected Kommissars of the European tyranny-by-clerk, easy prey for Communist infiltrators, saw to it that coal-fired power stations with decades of useful life in them were torn down and replaced with combined-cycle turbines powered by Siberian gas, whose unit carbon dioxide emissions per megawatt-hour generated are half those of coal but whose unit cost is twice that of coal.

As competition from coal inexorably diminished, the price of Siberian gas sold to Europe no less inexorably rose. The law of supply and demand is an iron law. It is not up for repeal. Even before the Chinese-virus pandemic, Europe was paying Putin four times the world price for its gas. Now it pays more like eight times the world price; and, on a day in December 2021 when Europe was under a blocking high and the wind did not blow, it rose to 200 times the world price. Putin, on the pretext of addressing an unspecified technical fault in the pipelines but in reality to serve notice on Europe that it was now utterly dependent upon him and him alone to keep the lights on as he prepared to invade Ukraine, had turned the gas off for a few hours. The price had duly and very profitably surged.

Putin has not only succeeded in crippling the Western economies with the global-warming nonsense: he now profiteers directly from our scientifically-illiterate politicians’ economically and strategically half-witted decision to interfere in the energy market by force and remove coal from the energy mix, reducing competition, hiking power prices and rendering Europe and – to a striking degree – the United States dependent upon a hostile foreign power for the preponderance of its energy supply, the lifeblood of its industries. Aluminum smelting, steelmaking, heavy manufacturing and many other energy-intensive enterprises have been driven out to Russia, India and China, which have all repudiated attempts by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to shutter their economies as the West has so eagerly done under the Paris climate accords.

Putin has made a fortune from Siberian gas overpriced as a direct and ineluctable consequence of the Western classe politique’s abject, poltroonish fear of being unpersoned. He has spent it wisely, steadily rebuilding the motherland’s armed forces. He now has five times as many men under arms per head of population, and ten times as many in all, as the United Kingdom, which – under successive, ever-dimmer “Conservative” administrations that ought to have known better – has cut its own armed forces to almost nothing. Putin has 1.4 million men under arms. Only a fifth of them are deployed at the Ukrainian front. He has 15,000 tanks. Britain, laughably, has only 200.

China, like Russia, now profiteers directly by the West’s craven failure to act upon the ancient Roman saw Si vis pacem, para bellum – if you want peace, be ready for war. As invisibly as the Tsar of Some of the Russias and his KGB cronies have rebuilt the Soviet armed forces on the vast profits from Europe’s overpayments for Siberian gas, Xi Jinping, emperor of the Middle Kingdom, has built up Beijing’s armed forces to make them the largest and best-equipped on the planet. He is doing so out of the rapidly growing profits from the sale of lithium carbonate extracted from the vast mines of occupied Tibet by usefully inexpensive slave labor.

Sara Carter: 'Absolutely incredible' that Mayorkas put in charge of Ukraine conflict threats
[Fox] Fox News contributor Sara Carter said it's "absolutely incredible" that President Biden would put Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in charge of responding to threats to the U.S. stemming from the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

Carter, who has extensively reported on the border and immigration, told Fox News Digital at CPAC that Mayorkas is the last person that should be shouldering such a responsibility.

The Department of Homeland Security has been designated the lead federal government agency for coordinating domestic preparedness and response efforts related to Russia’s war on Ukraine, the department announced Thursday.

"I think it's absolutely incredible that Alejandro Mayorkas would be put in charge of looking at the potential threats coming from Ukraine when the Biden administration has completely failed the American people on the national security of the U.S.-Mexico border. It is unacceptable," Carter said.

Senate Rejects ‘Most Radical Abortion Bill in United States History,' All but One Democrat Vote in Favor
[Breitbart] The U.S. Senate on Monday rejected the “Women’s Health Protection Act,” a radical abortion bill aimed at enshrining abortion on-demand and up-to-birth in federal law as well as voiding all state laws aimed at protecting the lives of the unborn.

The measure, which needed 60 votes to bypass the filibuster, failed 46-48 with all but one Democrat voting in favor — Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV).
So not just a fail, but a big fail. And the Democratic Party leadership must have known it would when they put it up for a vote.
Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) — who has described himself as pro-life and whose father, former Pennsylvania Gov. Bob Casey, Sr. (D), took Planned Parenthood to the Supreme Court over abortion — voted in favor of the measure as well.

Europe
‘Take the oligarchs' Riviera villas': Ukraine war hijacks French presidential campaign
[France24] The Communist candidate in France’s presidential election has suggested storming the winter palaces of Russian oligarchs on the French Riviera and handing them over to Ukrainian refugees as presidential hopefuls scramble to adjust their pitches in a campaign hijacked by the war in Ukraine.

With the first round of France’s presidential election less than six weeks away, a lacklustre campaign already overshadowed by the lingering Covid-19 pandemic has been thrown further off course by Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Foreign policy is typically a sideshow in French presidential campaigns, but Europe’s biggest military invasion since World War II has left France’s presidential hopefuls with no option but to venture into geopolitics and test their credentials as future commanders-in-chief.

With a few notable exceptions, candidates for the Élysée Palace have scrambled to adjust their schedules, swapping campaign events for pro-Ukraine rallies and attempting to clarify — or rectify — past comments on Russia’s president.

#1  Do we really know what we're doing?

Ken Rogoff of Harvard is the former top economist at the International Monetary Fund. When the IMF's chief economist warns that the West's moves are going to threaten dollar dominance, you know you're in trouble

They didn't go full blast in SWIFT in freezing the central bank, but they've ramped it up radically. And, you know, again, the question is, you know, what's next?

But it's a major thing. I mean, if you want to look at the long-run picture of dollar dominance in the global economy, believe me, China's looking at this. They have, I don't know, $3 trillion in dollar reserves. And someday they may well do a similar thing in Taiwan. And they're thinking about how to shield themselves. And it could have very big, longer-term ramifications for the global economy, dollar dominance

#4  By all means let's listen to Ken Rogoff:

"Putin is a pariah. I have many Ukrainian friends and Russian friends who are utterly distraught. They look at being cut off from the world for a long time," the former chief economist at the International Monetary Fund said on Yahoo Finance Live. "He is going to be looked at as a mass murder. People are going to be looking at again genocide charges. They are suddenly trading in North Korea. He has painted himself into this corner. It's a very dark place for where we are. I am not sure how we get to an end of it until Putin and his cronies go."

Simultaneously, we're financing Putin's attack on Ukraine by obliterating our own energy production and instead buying from Russia. Wait, what?!

Simultaneously, we're financing Putin's attack on Ukraine by an obscene trade deficit with China Communists, who in turn use their bounty to offset any sanctions we put on Russia. Wait, what?!

US expels 12 Russian 'intelligence operatives' at the United Nations
[Washington Examiner] The United States government says it is expelling 12 Russian "intelligence operatives" from the Russian Mission to the United Nations over national security concerns.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Mission to the United Nations announced Monday the U.S. is "beginning the process" of expelling these individuals as part of a process that has "been in the works for several months," though the move comes less than a week into Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"We are beginning the process of expelling 12 intelligence operatives from the Russian Mission who have abused their privileges of residency in the U.S. by engaging in espionage activities that are adverse to our national security," Olivia Dalton tweeted. BP Exits $14 Billion Stake in Russian Oil Giant Rosneft
LONDON, Feb 27 (Reuters) - BP is abandoning its stake in Russian oil giant Rosneft in an abrupt and costly end to three decades of operating in the energy-rich country, marking the most significant move yet by a Western company in response to Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

Rosneft accounts for around half of BP's oil and gas reserves and a third of its production and divesting the 19.75% stake will result in charges of up to $25 billion, the British company said, without saying how it plans to extricate itself.

"I have been deeply shocked and saddened by the situation unfolding in Ukraine and my heart goes out to everyone affected. It has caused us to fundamentally rethink bp's position with Rosneft," BP Chief Executive Bernard Looney said.

The rapid retreat represents a dramatic exit for BP, the biggest foreign investor in Russia, and puts the spotlight on other Western companies with operations in the country including France's TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA) and Britain's Shell (SHEL.L), amid an escalating crisis between the West and Moscow.

It also underscores growing pressure from Western governments on their companies to curtail operations in Russia as they widen a net of economic sanctions against Moscow.

British Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng, who on Friday had expressed "concern" over BP's Rosneft, welcomed the decision.

"Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine must be a wake up call for British businesses with commercial interests in (President Vladimir) Putin's Russia," Kwarteng said on Twitter.

Rosneft (ROSN.MM) blamed BP's decision on "unprecedented political pressure", Russian news agencies reported, saying 30 years of successful cooperation had been ruined.

#6  From everything I read I gather there are two main theories about Ukraine:

First - Putin is an unstable megalomaniac who will stop at nothing in his bid to restore the Soviet Union to all of its former glory.

Second - Biden provoked Putin into invading Ukraine by threatening to bring Ukraine into NATO. Then he offered only token sanctions to deter Putin from invading. Biden may have done this for dastardly ulterior motives, miscalculation or out of sheer incompetence. Maybe all three.

It's hard to know at this point what to believe, especially when it's impossible to believe anything that either Biden or Putin says.

If I was Putin I'd forget the Soviet Union and concentrate on getting Russia's economy on a footing that is a bit more competitive with the likes of the EU, China or America. I would choose economic growth over territorial expansion which can only ruin the economy. I always thought Putin was a smart guy but lately I'm beginning to wonder. Taking Biden's bait doesn't look very smart at this point.

Ukraine claims Russia used an illegal vacuum bomb during invasion: 'Potentially a war crime'
[FoxNews] The White House is awaiting confirmation from international investigative parties before it takes action.
And rightfully so.
The International Criminal Court has started investigating Russia over potential war crimes the country may have committed during its invasion of Ukraine, after a Ukrainian official claimed that Russia used an illegal weapon during the war, officials said.

On Monday, Ukraine's ambassador to the U.S., Oksana Markarova, told reporters at the U.S. Capitol that during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the former country used a vacuum bomb, in violation of international law, Reuters reported.

A vacuum bomb is a thermobaric weapon that is typically more devastating than traditional bombs as it absorbs the oxygen in a given space to cause a significant blast capable of vaporizing humans, Reuters reported.

Leb Military Court Releases Two Detainees Suspected of Spying for Israel
[AnNahar] The military court has released two detainees who had been suspected of spying for Israel, Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi revealed on Monday.

Last month, the Lebanese security forces had busted more than 17 suspected Israeli spy networks, in one of the largest nationwide crackdowns in recent years.

The two persons who were released today were tossed into the calaboose among the suspected Israeli spy networks, Mawlawi specified, clarifying that they had nothing to do with the I.S. Death Eaters who had also been recently arrested.

[EpochTimes] Negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian officials in a third country on Feb. 28 yielded no results, officials said after the talks concluded.

Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sent brass hats as intermediaries as Russian and Ukrainian forces continued battling in Ukraine, including near major cities such as Kyiv. The negotiations were held in Belarus, which has allowed Russian forces to pass through during the war.

Mykhailo Podolyak, a top adviser to Zelensky, told news hounds after talks broke off that the primary aim was to discuss a ceasefire.

"The parties have determined several priority topics on which certain decisions have been envisioned," Podolyak said. "The parties are returning to their capitals to have the possibility to implement these decisions. The parties have discussed the possibility to hold in the nearest time a second round of negotiations where these issues will get to be practically developed."

Podolyak later took to Twitter, writing: "Negotiations are difficult. However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
without any obligatory ultimatums already. Unfortunately, the Russian side is still extremely biased regarding the destructive processes it launched."

Vladimir Medinsky, who headed the Russian delegation, said the five-hour talks included finding points of agreement on unspecified various agenda items and featured an agreement to continue negotiations.

"The next meeting will take place in the coming days at the Polish—Belarusian border. There is already a relevant agreement. Before the meeting, both delegations, the leaders of both delegations, will consult with their countries’ leadership concerning their negotiation positions," Medinsky said.

Turkey blocks warships from Bosphorus, Dardanelles
[AlAhram] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
said Monday it was blocking warships from the key Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits in line with a convention that gives it control over the passage of military vessels in the strategic area.

"We have alerted both countries of the region and elsewhere not to pass warships through the Black Sea," Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said. "We are applying the Montreux Convention."

The 1936 Montreux Convention governs the free movement of fat merchantmen in peacetime through the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles straits.

But it grants Turkey the right to block the passage of warships in the Dardanelles and Bosphorus Straits, that connect the Aegean, Marmara, and Black Sea, in wartime if threatened.

Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than there are in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really most important...
had just clarified Turkey's position as a NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
member: "not to abandon either Russia or Ukraine" and not to "cede Turkey's national interests".

"We have decided to use the Montreux Convention to prevent the escalation of the crisis," he said after a cabinet meeting.

Ukraine had last week officially asked Turkey to close the Dardanelles Strait -- and thus access to the Black Sea -- to Russian ships.

NATO member Turkey, which has strong ties with both Russia and Ukraine, did not immediately respond to this request.

"Russia asked us if we would apply the Montreux Convention if necessary. We told them we would apply it word for word," Cavusoglu said.

He added that Ottoman Turkish experts had been studying the situation to assess "whether there is a state of war from a legal point of view".

Turkey is navigating its own narrow passage, diplomatically, between its ally Ukraine, to which it has sold combat drones used against Russian tanks, and Russia, on which it depends for its gas and grain supplies.

However Turkey on Sunday officially recognised Russia's attacks on Ukraine as a "state of war".

Erdogan on Monday said he considers "Russia's attack on Ukrainian territory as unacceptable" and hailed the struggle of the Ukrainian government and people.

Government Corruption
Jan 6 defendant takes his own life
[PostMillennial] "They informed him the other day that they were pursuing additional charges. He couldn't take another day," Perna's family reportedly stated.

Jan 6 defendant Matthew Perna has reportedly did away with himself.

Perna was charged by federal authorities with Obstruction of an Official Proceeding and Aiding and Abetting, Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds, Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds, and Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building.

According to the Department of Justice's case description, Perna was arrested on Jan. 19, 2021, indicted more than a month later on Feb. 25, 2021, and entered a plea agreement on Dec. 17, 2021, pleading guilty to all counts.

Perna was seen in surveillance footage inside the Capitol building wearing a red Make America Great Again hoodie. Perna maintained that he was pushed into the building by a crowd that had gathered behind him, according to the criminal complaint, and that he hadn't intended to go inside. Perna insisted that he was only in the building for only five to 10 minutes on Jan. 6, the complaint reads.

Perna's sentencing was set to take place on March 3, 2022, for charges that carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on the felony, with additional penalties related to the misdemeanors, WKBN reported.

Pro-life activist and independent journalist Tayler Hansen said Perna "has been bullied to death by the DOJ."

Perna's family said, "They informed him the other day that they were pursuing additional charges. He couldn't take another day," according to Hansen.

Last year, Jan. 6 defendant John Steven Anderson, who sought police help during the chaotic event on Capitol grounds, died while awaiting trial. The veteran of the Marine Corps and Florida Army National Guard's 3/20th Special Forces Group was arrested in February and indicted a month later on eight counts.

Anderson was granted pretrial release in March 2021 and ordered to stay away from the District of Columbia except for business related to the Jan 6 case.

Victor Davis Hanson: The Crowded Road To Kyiv
[ZERO] One of the oddest commentaries about the Russian invasion of Ukraine is the boilerplate reaction that "borders can’t change in modern Europe" or "this does not happen in the 21st century."

But why in the world should the 21st century be exempt from the pathologies of the past 20 centuries? Are we smarter than the Romans? More innovative than Florentines? Do we have more savvy leaders than Lincoln or Churchill? Are they more mellifluous than Demosthenes? Does anyone now remember that some 130,000 were slaughtered just 30 years ago in the former Yugoslavia, as NATO planes bombed Belgrade and nuclear America and Russia almost squared off?

Has globalization, the "rules-based order," the Davos reset elite, the "international community" so improved the very way humans think that they have rendered obsolete the now ossified ancient idea of deterrence? Will the Kardashians and Beyoncé tweet our pathway to global peace?

How about transnational NGOs? NATO? WHO? The UN? Are all their recent records of service proof of our more exalted modern morality? Will some new engineered Wuhan virus alter human nature, end its innate ancient pathologies, and so eliminate war as we knew it? Are we not the League of Nations because Putin is now chair of the Security Council?

#6  The nihilist Biden decision voluntarily to cancel new pipelines, federal leases, ANWAR, and leverage loss of bank financing for fracking, and to give up well over 2 million barrels of daily production will be seen not just as an economic disaster. It was a strategic catastrophe.

Way, way back in the 1960's I understood that oil is dirty, polluting and bad. But I also understood that if the Soviets had it, we had to have it too. If I could understand that, even as a kid way back then, why can't Joe Biden understand it now?

Oh, I know. It isn't Biden. It's Obama or Soros or the Squad. Whatever. Why don't they understand that with all the threats we face in this world we need energy to successfully confront them? The only conclusion I can reach is that they really are trying to destroy America.

Maybe we'll see some Federal Civil Rights charges filed.
Given he and his staff violated the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution. (don't hold your breath)

Which specifically prohibits the Government from abridging "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances".

The instruction and act of tossing the petitions in the trash negated the citizenry's right to petition.

Hunter Biden's business partner Devon Archer is sentenced to one year in prison for his role in defrauding Native American tribe - as emails reveal president's son had close ties to firm involved in the scheme but later distanced himself
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Hunter Biden's friend and business partner, Devon Archer, was sentenced to one year in prison Monday for his role in a scheme to defraud a Native American tribe

  • He was also ordered to forfeit $15,700,513 and pay $43,427,436 in restitution

  • Archer, 47, and two other Burnham Financial Group executives were convicted in 2018 of defrauding the Oglala Sioux Indian tribe out of bond sales proceeds

  • Emails obtained by DailyMail.com show Hunter had worked closely with Archer and from 2014 to 2016 - the period it was perpetrating the $60M fraud

  • The president's son, 52, was not implicated in the scheme but helped broker a wider, unrelated venture for Burnham with a Chinese firm called Bohai Harvest
  • well, not this scheme
  • A slide deck presentation prepared for the Chinese investors and sent to Hunter alludes to his financial ties to Burnham

Ukrainians joke about tax implications of captured Russian tanks

On the Facebook page for the National Agency for Corruption Prevention, authorities announce that captured Russian tanks do not need to be declared to tax authorities because “this shit isn’t worth enough” to report. (The minimum is 100 cost of living units, a unit being 248 Hrevniya (about $8), it notes.)

The tongue-in-cheek post, which authorities say does actually reflect current national tax policy (which may change after the war), notes that the equipment is tax-exempt because it was acquired to due to being a result of the “Russian aggression.”

“Thanks to the bravery of the defenders of Ukraine, the enemy’s equipment usually gets to you already damaged and so there’s no way to assess the value.”

“So the Russian tanks can fuck off submit a declaration,” the salty-tongued authority says.

Can't defend the LEO actions, despite her struggling against the poorly executed arrest process.

Given how the LEO interacted with the other citizen only reinforced my opinion. Lawyers should review this LEO's arrests given the video I just watched.

But I do have to ask a few things:
1. Where was the family of Karen Garner?
Here we have a 73-year-old known dementia patient, out walking around and shopping by herself?
So I ask again...Where the $%^& was her family?

2. Going on the assumption Karen Garner was walking home towards her home. Again where was her family and why is she walking. if her mental condition is hampered as they stated for the lawsuit?

3. Given the family has stressed Mama has mental issues, which precludes her from making rational decisions. Will the Family suddenly be there to help her manage the spending of the $Million payout?

#2  Neither is with the police department and both are facing criminal charges

Prosecutors have reviewed the arrests, and are acting, NN2N1.

The police went after Ms Garner after she walked out of WalMart without paying the $13 she owed for her purchases, violently arresting her as she walked home. I assume that, like my mother’s situation, the retirement home is within sight of the store. Quite possibly she was still in independent living at the time, but was approaching the point of needing a transfer to assisted living.

Iraq
Leaked files show how Ericsson allegedly helped bribe Islamic State

Shafaq News / Confidential documents have revealed how the telecoms giant Ericsson is alleged to have helped pay bribes to the Islamic State terrorist group in order to continue selling its services after the militants seized control of large parts of Iraq.

The leak of internal investigations at Ericsson, which also found that the firm had put its contractors at risk and allowed them to be kidnapped by the militants, is potentially damaging for the multinational.

In addition to the findings about the alleged payments to IS, the investigations uncovered allegations the company was involved in corruption in at least 10 countries across four continents.

That would suggest a pattern of wrongdoing by Ericsson that is far wider than what the telecoms giant publicly admitted to in 2019, when it entered into a $1bn (£750m) settlement with the US Department of Justice (DoJ).

#4  @2 yeah that caught my eye too. Russia could argue that NATO is now interfering since it is allowing hostile planes to base from its territory and strike/invade Poland as reprisal. Easy to expand this war with that little tidbit.

Pro-war Democrats: their allies vs. their enemies

Note the NATO flag. These guys are on our side. They aren't even neo-Nazis. They're actual Nazis.

No, dear heart, they’re still not actual Nazis. They’re white supremacists trying to shock the normies by playing dress-up — most of them will outgrow their vicious nonsense when they settle down and have families to support. There have been no actual Nazis (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, NSDAP) since the remnants of Hitler’s empire fled in disarray after Germany surrendered. A few went into service with Arab Socialist dictators, and there were a few small irredentist communities deep in various South American jungles, but even they gave up hope of reestablishing the Third German Reich. The real Nazis would have recoiled in disgust from Slavs using their name.

Bzzt wrong. May I introduce you to the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Galician).

"Ukrainian military formation in the German armed forces during the Second World War. The division was organized as part of a program of creating foreign (eg, Estonian, Latvian) formations of the Waffen SS to fight on the Soviet front."

The Ukrainian Nazis that we are fighting supporting today are their direct descendants.

I'm more than a little surprised that people on this site aren't aware of the Ukrainian Nazis and the Maidan coup in 2014, when a neutral Ukraine government was overthrown and replaced with a Nazi-friendly one. And ashamed at the Nazi denialism despite copious evidence in photo, video and the Nazis' and Ukrainian government's own words. The rest of the world was loud with outrage that a supposedly democratic government would allow and encourage such vile and odious people in its ranks. It wasn't a secret.

The Nazis were perfectly happy to make use of volunteer Untermenschen in the short term, especially to hunt sown their own people or be ground up as cannon fodder on the Eastern Front. They had no objection to using the man who now calls himself George Soros, too. But their Thousand Year Reich was a proof-of-concept program for breeding purebred Aryans, so even their pet Slavs were slated to be culled.

Ma'am,

Absolutely perfectly and concisely put. My compliments.

I'd like to add one thing if I might - if any of the liberals who scream 'Nazi' at the slightest provocation, or for that matter the pathetic children who call themselves that were to EVER meet a real-live, honest-to-Adolf 1930s Stormtrooper or 1943-era Einsatzgruppen team leader they'd soil themselves and run away in stark, screaming terror.

They have no idea what these men and women were really like, and their playacting just makes it that much easier for the real thing to hide itself while it waits for another shot at Der Tag.

#14  BTW, the word 'Nazi' is used in America like the other old 'N' word, a pejorative not associated with any specific political or institutional organization. It long ago lost its association with its origin. That was helped by decades of academia that spent its time trying desperately to separate the 'Socialist' portion of the movement from it originators.

#15  Any Ukrainian affinity for Naziism came from them believing they were being liberated from the genocide of the Russian rulers of the Soviet Union. Most Ukrainians realized the Nazis were just as bad and fought them, too.

The ones waving that flag today do so SPECIFICALLY to annoy the Russians.

Reportedly some of the Russian tanks rolled into Ukraine sporting Soviet flags -- and that regime murdered more of its own people than the Nazis did.

#22  I think it is stupid to fingerpoint about ideology previous to last Tuesday. Nobody expected Putin to generally attack because it wasn't rational and it wasn't well planned out. He did a terrible job presenting his side, even though he was guaranteed some of the west siding with him. It's a brand new ball game.

If I was Xi, at the right time, I would come in whole heartedly against Putin and his stooges and declare total support for Ukraine.

China joining Europe on this would topple Putin. Then they could support a re-emergence of some form of the Communist Party and could install their own puppets in Moscow.

#23  My understanding is that Ukrainians turned Nazi in WWII because of the things that Joe Stalin did to them in the 1930's. They thought Hitler would treat them better than Stalin. Must be tough if you have to choose between those two. If Stalin hadn't made war on them they probably would have remained loyal to Russia. One thing I cannot see is that rag tag bunch of misfits in the graphic presenting any serious threat to Russia. Let them dress up and run around in the woods once a month and drink vodka afterwards. QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Russian helicopters flew close to American helicopters, during the coincidence of two patrols of the two sides in the northern countryside of Qamishli, northeast Syria.

Russian helicopters carried out a rotational action around American helicopters over Tel-Ziwan village, on the Turkish border, about 13 km north of Qamishli, local sources told North Press.

The Russian aircraft continued to fly around the American helicopters for a few minutes before heading towards Qamishli.

Iraq issues a sentence of death against Al-Qaeda members

Shafaq News/ On Monday, a Criminal Court issued a death sentence against two terrorists from Baghdad.

A security source told Shafaq News Agency, "The Criminal Court in Dhi Qar Governorate issued a sentence of death by hanging against two al-Qaeda members who were in prison for eight years for killing citizens in the Latifiya area in Baghdad."

It is worth noting that the Latifia- Mahmoudia-Yusufia area is known as the "Triangle of Death," where groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda were active and carried out massacres against citizens and security forces after 2004.

Al Qaeda in Iraq, or the Islamic State of Iraq as the group is also known, is one of several Sunni Islamist insurgent groups that had been very active just after the withdrawal of the US troops.

The group has claimed a string of attacks.

According to Reuters, the group was founded in October 2004 when Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi pledged allegiance to Osama bin Laden. An Egyptian, Abu Ayyub al-Masri, has become the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq after Zarqawi was killed in 2006.

In October 2006, the al-Qaeda-led Mujahideen Shura Council said it had set up the Islamic State of Iraq (ISI), an umbrella group of Sunni militant affiliates and tribal leaders led by Abu Omar al-Baghdadi. Reuters reported.

Government Corruption
Judge dismisses Jan. 6 cases against Giuliani and Don Jr., not Trump
[JustTheNews] The Obama-appointed judge accused Trump of knowing that supporters "were prepared to partake in violence for him."

In lawsuits filed by Reps. Eric I farted on national television Swalwell
... U.S. Representative-for-Life from Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,'s 15th congressional district since 2013. Naturally he's a Dem. His district covers most of eastern Alameda County and part of central Contra Costa County. He was rapidly eliminated from the 2020 Dem nomination pool. He looks a lot like Greg Marmelard, and has the distinction of being one of the few politicians to ever fart on national teevee...
(D-Calif.) and Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) to hold Donald Trump
...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party...
and allies liable for damages stemming from Jan. 6, a judge has dismissed the cases against two defendants — Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani and former first son Donald Trump Jr. — while allowing most parts of the cases against the former president to proceed.

D.C. District Court Judge Amit P. Mehta, an Obama appointee, issued the 112-page ruling earlier this month on three Jan. 6 lawsuits involving former President Trump and his allies. In his ruling, Mehta accused Trump supporters of being ready to participate in violent mostly peaceful actions on behalf of the former president.

Trump campaign adviser and former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik criticized the judge's decision.

"This is just one of many frivolous lawsuits and attacks by the government against the president's personal counsel for having the courage to stand up and fight for his client," Kerik told Just the News.

In Thompson v. Trump, 11 members of the House of Representatives and two Capitol Police officers were seeking damages from former President Trump, Trump Jr., attorney Giuliani, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) and far-right groups such as the Proud Boys and its leader Enrique Tarrio for physical injuries and emotional distress linked to Jan. 6.

Motions to dismiss by Giuliani and Trump Jr. were granted by Mehta, but the motions of former President Trump, Tarrio and the Oath Keepers were denied.

Thompson left the lawsuit after he was named Jan. 6 committee chair.

Swalwell filed a personal lawsuit in March 2021 against former President Trump, Trump Jr., Brooks and Giuliani. The California representative accused the parties of negligence and emotional distress, among other things. All defendants except for Brooks have asked for the case to be dismissed.

In Swalwell v. Trump, Mehta dismissed all claims against Trump Jr. and Giuliani. However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
he only dismissed some of the claims against the former president. Trump still faces a lawsuit from Swalwell over negligence claims, violations of D.C.'s anti-bias law and "aiding and abetting assault."

The court also invited Brooks to file a motion to dismiss Swalwell's case and said the request would be granted.

Capitol Police officers James Blassingame and Sidney Hemby were part of Thompson's lawsuit, and they also filed their own against the former president. Mehta granted part of Trump's request for dismissal in the case, but Trump still faces accusations of "directing/aiding and abetting assault" and violating "public safety statutes," among other things.

Giving the basis to keep the lawsuits against Trump, Mehta accused the former president of knowing that groups such as the Proud Boys "were prepared to partake in violence for him." He added that the "same is true of other supporters."

Mehta also accused the former president of making a call for "collective action" in his Jan. 6 speech, which led to supporters entering the Capitol that day.

Shafaq News / The Baghdad operations command revealed thwarting an ISIS terrorist's attempt to enter the capital today, Monday.

The command said in a statement that the terrorist, nicknamed "Abu Othman", intended to enter al-Ghazaliyah area in Baghdad, before he was arrested.

In a different context, the Federal police caught four persons who were trying to smuggle oil red-handed.

They were referred to the concerned authorities to take the necessary measures in this regard.

Shafaq News/ Iraq’s Security Media Cell announced, on Monday, the arrest of two terrorists in the capital, Baghdad.

The Cell said in a statement that the Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency in the Ministry of Interior had arrested two terrorists in Baghdad, for belonging to ISIS.

“One of the detainees worked in transporting terrorist elements to different areas while the other worked within the so-called Al-Anbar sector.

It is necessary to show their crimes
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation should not be too zealous with the formation of respect for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, this irritates society. This was told to IA REGNUM on February 28 by publicist Pavel Shulzhenok.

“A course has been taken towards respect for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We need a specific formation of the image of a war criminal capable of killing children and civilians,” the expert said

It is necessary to show that a Russian soldier is confronted by a war criminal who is subject to denazification, Shulzhenok believes.

Recall that on February 24, a special operation of the Russian Armed Forces began on the territory of Ukraine.

Deputy: “The main thing is to demilitarize Ukraine pumped up with Western weapons”
[REGNUM] State Duma Deputy from Yugra Pavel Zavalny (United Russia faction) said that Russia's special operation to protect Donbass should put an end to genocide and violence, return all countries to real serious negotiations on security guarantees in the European space. The parliamentarian wrote about this on his page on the social network VKontakte.

"For eight years, we called on the participants in the Minsk agreements to implement them, participated in all formats and negotiations that would allow Donbass to receive a special status within Ukraine. We called on NATO countries to fulfill their promises, to stop expanding to the east. But in response, we saw only the acceleration of the militarization of states near our borders and the hypocritical assertions that all this does not threaten Russia with anything. Now the most important thing is to demilitarize Ukraine, pumped up with Western weapons, protect people, stop violence in the southeast and establish peace,” Pavel Zavalny said.

The parliamentarian added that the strikes that the Russian military is now inflicting with high-precision weapons are intended to disable only military infrastructure and are not aimed at civilian facilities.

As REGNUM reported earlier , on February 28, negotiations between the delegations of Russia and Ukraine were held in the Gomel region (Belarus) for five hours . The meeting took place against the backdrop of a special Russian military operation carried out at the request of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.

The right to self-defense - Nebenzya about Russia's military special operation in Ukraine
[REGNUM] Russia is exercising its right to self-defense during a military special operation on the territory of Ukraine and preventing a third world war, Vasily Nebenzya , Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, said on February 28 at a special session of the General Assembly.

The Permanent Representative of Russia recalled that Nazi Ukraine had repeatedly declared its desire to obtain nuclear weapons.

"In addition, in the course of a special military operation, Russia is exercising the right to self-defense against a regime that sought to restore access to nuclear weapons. The head of Ukraine directly stated this on February 18 during the Munich Conference, and this statement of his, let me remind you, was met with applause from European representatives," Nebenzya said.

"By using Article 51 of the UN Charter, Russia not only protects itself from the nationalist threat, but restores the operation of the goals and principles of the UN Charter on the territory of Donbass and Ukraine, ensures the fulfillment of the main task of the world organization - the prevention of a new world war," Russia’s permanent representative explained.

At the same time, he recalled that one of the goals of Russia's special operation is to bring to justice those "who committed numerous and bloody crimes against civilians, including citizens of the Russian Federation."

LNA Clashes with Mercenaries in South Libya

On Sunday, a high-ranking military source in the Sobol Al-Salam Brigade, claimed that at least 26 mercenaries were killed in armed confrontations with the Libyan National Army (LNA) in the southern city of Al-Kufra.

The source added that LNA forces were able to arrest 14 mercenaries, and seize four armed vehicles during the clashes. The brigade had previously announced the closure of the border crossings with Sudan and Chad, until further notice.

It called on all vehicle and truck drivers to abide by the decision, given that “remnants of these criminal gangs” are being chased across the Chadian-Libyan border.

The area is notorious for being controlled by gangs, drug smugglers, and human traffickers, most of whom are from neighbouring states. The operation was reportedly targeting illegal immigrants, and drug dealers.

Libya has become the preferred point of departure for thousands of migrants wishing to cross the Mediterranean to Europe.

Last year, the Director of the Moral Guidance Department at the LNA, Major General Khaled Al-Mahjoub revealed that there were several attempts to expel mercenaries from southern Libya.

Al-Mahjoub stressed that they were “securing all areas of southern Libya,” noting that there are serious “attempts by mercenaries to destabilise southern Libya.” He claimed that Turkey has an interest in the continuing instability in Libya.

LNA Spokesman, Ahmed Al-Mismari also announced that local forces from the Sebha Military Region had confronted subversive elements.

Pakistan-Afghan border reopens days after deadly clash that left three dead
More on this story from yesterday.

A key border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan has reopened, officials said Sunday, days after fighting between security forces left at least three dead.

Since the Taliban returned to power last year border tensions between the neighbors have risen, with Pakistan alleging militant groups were planning attacks from Afghan soil.

Each side blamed the other for Thursday’s clashes at the Chaman-Spin Boldak crossing, which locals said involved light and heavy weapons.

Terrorists Take Over Suleja-Minna Road Near Abuja

Terrorists, locally known as bandits, have taken over Suleja-Minna Road in Niger State.

SaharaReporters learnt that the bandits blocked the highway and attacked travellers on the road.

This is the federal road that leads from Minna to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Passengers coming from Abuja heading to Minna are forced to make a U-turn or pull over while waiting for intervention of security operatives.

No security operative has been there to confront the bandits, so motorists and passengers have been stuck, Sahara Reporters learnt.

Domestic team removes remnant of war left by ISIS in Deri ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A domestic demining team in Baghouz town, 140 km east of Deir ez-Zor, removed around 175 pieces of Explosive Remnants of War (ERW), yet multiple still exist under rubble or among the charred vehicles, an official of the team said on Sunday.

Remnants of vehicles, landmines, and unexploded remnants of war left by the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) threaten civilians in Baghouz.

The team started the campaign of demining with the help of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Muhammad To’meh, a member of Baghouz local council and the executive manager of Bokra Ahla (Tomorrow is better) team, said.

Some of the unexploded ordnances were in the condition of explosion, “The team is keeping up the volunteering work,” he said.

The Bokra Ahla demining team called on the NGOs to clear the areas of the landmines but it has received no reply so far, according to To’meh.

To date, the ERW have claimed lives of 15 persons while approximately 50 others were injured. Some have their limbs amputated and others lost their eyes.

Baghouz was ISIS’s last stronghold before the SDF declared its defeat in brutal battles in 2019 with the US-led Global Coalition aerial surveillance.

The engineering team run by the SDF said it assisted the Bokra Ahla team to remove the landmines from some residential neighborhoods.

Afif al-Hamadah, a resident of Baghouz, said his family live in the most dangerous point on earth, where Rubble, wreckage and landmines spread on a large scale.

Landmines left by ISIS have claimed lives of many people of the town, according to al-Hamadah.

“My nephew’s hand was amputated because a landmine exploded while he was raising the cattle near his house.”

“We feel it is not safe for our children to go out anymore,” he added.

He called on NGOs to assume its responsibilities to clear the areas from the ERW which have paralyzed movement in the town.

But things change and people get loosey-goosey in how they handle and secure their coins.

BTW:
In my book, those funding known Terrorist groups, that have murdered civilians, should be charged as murderers also.

Libyan Security Forces Arrest Fuel Smugglers

Libyan security forces have seized shipments of smuggled fuel, during desert patrols south of the city of Bani Walid. In a statement, the 444th Brigade warned “smugglers and saboteurs” that it would not hesitate to pursue and apprehend them.

Since mid-February, the Sirte region has witnessed an aggravation of the fuel crisis. This is due to the lack of gasoline at distribution stations operating in the region, resulting in citizens having to queue up for fuel.

In January, Libyan National Army (LNA) forces began “a wide and comprehensive military operation in the south of the country to impose security, the Commander of Southern Operations and the Sebha Military Region, Major General Al-Mabrouk Sahban said.

He added that, the first phase of the military operation will target all violators participating in random construction, drug trafficking, smuggling, illegal immigration, and armed groups.

The second phase is set to target illegal fuel stations, which distribute smuggled fuel at exorbitant prices. The phase will not start until fuel is available at all stations licensed by the Libyan state.

“Distributing fuel to the Sebha oil depot is unfair due to the lack of adequate control over the distribution stations. This is in addition to the manipulation of distribution stations by several parties,” Sahban said. He stressed that there are efforts by the LNA aimed at delivering fuel to all Libyans.

In an interview with Al-Ain News, he added that they are showing great interest in the Murzuq Basin. As several meetings have been held for a comprehensive settlement between the parties of the city.

Open letter to TV watching western armchair generals
For your amusement, dear Reader. You may enjoy it more if you drop down to the bottom of the post to learn who the The Saker is.
[thesaker.is] My dear TV western armchair generals,
Clearly not addressed to me — I’m not even a private.
I get it, I promise. I really do!

Your entire life you have been trained to see a successful military operations like so:

Victory US style!

Begin by bombing the shit of the "hadjis" or "sand n***ers" with bombs and missiles, then flatten their town à la Fallujah, then move in with heavy armor and shoot everything which still moves or breathes.
Actually, running armor into a city is what the Russians are doing now.

As I recall, the Battle of Fallujah began when Iraqi militia murdered a number of US contractors. US forces had little choice than to clear the town out.
Then distribute chewing-gums to a few kids while on video.

Then take the city center, drop a statue in front your embedded presstitutes, and then declare victory.

Then, after declaring victory, stay another 20 years or so (Blinken was clearly projecting!), ruin it completely, then leave it again and declare another brilliant victory.

And don’t forget to declare urbi at orbi
...urbi et orbi, for those who take their Latin straight, meaning to the city (Rome) and the world. One of the big Catholic prayers...
that you reserve the "right" to bomb the shit out of them anytime you deem it is needed. And fuck their sovereignty or anybody else’s while we are at it!
You seem to have the ideation of US air operations as a pilot jumping into a fully loaded out aircraft and bombing the first target they see. That is how the US liberal sees them.
In fact, US air operations are carefully based on intelligence gathered and plans laid, including the target and the ordnance to be used. It is a long and complicated process before the pilot even finishes his cup of coffee before getting in the aircraft for his sortie.
I suspect that the Russian air force is much the same.
US tactical airstrike pilots now are required to fill out a form before any ordnance is released, and to request clearance for the bombing run.
You simplifying it the way you have simply shows your deep. deep ignorance of military and their operations.

Lastly, once home, don’t forget to "thank" your "veterans" for their "service".

I get it.

Now YOU try, please!!

Now, in spite of this conditioning, please at least try to understand the following points:

First, the Russians do not see Ukrainian as Hadjis but as their own brothers.
The Holodomor suggests a Cain and Abel kind of relationship. So does Putin’s suggestion about using nukes.
Second many/most LDNR soliders have relatives in the Nazi occupied Ukraine.
And in Russia, no doubt. Ditto for Ukrainians. Probably quite a few have a Jewish ancestor or several somewhere in their family tree, however unnoticed.
Third, yes, Russia can turn any Ukrainian city into Fallujah, but who do you think will then have to pay for its reconstruction?
You’re brothers, right? So taking care of them after you break their things comes with the territory... or something like that.
Fourth, please understand that the double goals of 1) denazification and 2) disarmament implies that any person which is not a Nazi or is not armed and hostile is not, repeat, NOT the target of the Russian armed forces.
That Jewish guy who is president is a Nazi? Wow. His colleagues who like the Jewish guy and voted for him — also Nazis? The original Nazis would have been appalled.
Fifth, the Ukie military was 80% defeated on Day 1.
Uh huh.
Get that? It was gone as a coherent fighting force. THAT is why they are blowing up bridges, distributing weapons and releasing convicted criminals. NOT because they are winning! I mean — how stupid are you if you believe that? Ukie stupid?

Seriously?

Right now you are the object of probably the biggest PSYOP operation in history.
The biggest? That can’t possibly be right in this time of Covid. Anybody here at Rantburg know anything about PSYOPs who could explain it to me?
If you realize that and treat these PSYOPs as you should, that is as "informational warfare from the bad guys" you will be able to tell your kind and grandkids "I never believed that crap". Good for you!

But if you don’t, well then, just don’t tell too much about you in 2022 to your kind and grandkids, save yourself the ridicule and embarrassment...

That’s it. My very last attempt to wake you up. From now on, I will pretend like you don’t exist and instantly ban any comments parroting kind of self-evident nonsense.
Promise?
Now I will quietly leave your room, switch off the lights, and let you watch your TVs.

Andrei

PS: I know the blogs load slow. We made hardware changes and we might have to do more. But that costs (lots) of money and time. We are doing our best with our means, but with both UncleShmuel and Soros out there to "get us" to the tune of billions of dollars spent, they are definitely winning and holding the upper hand in this informational war. Wanna help? SPREAD THE INFO as much as you can and SEND MORE MONEY for our IT. That is what "Biden" and Soros have that we don’t: many people and many dollars. That’s just a fact.

Saker seems to forget the precision guided shock and awe in which we destroyed Saddam's command and control facilities, his communications and his logistics thereby rendering his military useless and unable to offer any organized resistance. In only a couple of days our tanks rolled into Baghdad unopposed. Contrast that with Putin's clumsy and heavy handed stumbling. The Ukrainian resistance is still well organized and a serious threat to the invaders. Russian tanks remain stalled outside of Kiev.

IIRC, the battle at Falluha was against a disorganized bunch of jihadis who were hopped up and drugs and died like dogs.

It took time, but they were really good at it.

Iraq
Peshmerga crippled ISIS movements between Diyala and Kurdistan

Shafaq News/ The security operations executed by the Peshmerga forces managed to deter ISIS plots and cripple the movement of its operatives in the territory between Diyala and the Kurdistan region, senior commanders said on Monday.

In a statement to Shafaq News Agency, Peshmerga commanders said that the military campaigns at the borders of Garmyan with the governorates of Saladin and Diyala "aborted ISIS movements, cut the roads of death, and prevented the terrorist groups from slipping between the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga forces."

The commander of the third brigade's second regiment, Colonel Jalil Mam Faiaq, said, "since January, we have not registered a single attack or terrorist incident at the outskirts of Khanaqin after cutting the supply routes of the terrorist groups and crippling the movement of its members."

"The borders of Garmyan and Khanaqin are under control. It is subject to continuous inspection and surveillance by the Peshmerga forces," he added.

"Al-Islah basin and the north of Jalawla are still infested by ISIS remnants. However, it is under the jurisdiction of the federal forces," Faiaq continued.

ISIS took a swath of land in Iraq and Syria in 2014. Following a series of bloody offensives against it, the armed group lost its territorial control and was effectively defeated in 2017.

However, having changed its strategies, ISIS still poses a threat in several provinces in Iraq with hit-and-run attacks, kidnappings, and roadside bombs.

Meanwhile, territorial disputes in Diyala province between the Kurdistan region and Iraq’s federal government, coupled with a lack of coordination between Kurdish forces and their counterparts in Baghdad, have contributed to a security vacuum that has been increasingly exploited by ISIS.

Toward the end of 2021, ISIS staged a series of attacks targeting civilians and security forces, leaving casualties and injuries.

Consequently, the federal and Peshmerga forces organized a joint large-scale security campaign to purge the terrorist enclaves in the area.

An officer of the Iraqi army told Shafaq News Agency that the recent security cooperation between the Defense ministry and the Peshmerga forces contributed to restoring trust between the federal forces and the residents of the Kurdish villages.

"Many villagers back-pedaled on the notion of displacement after the security assurances, the resumption of the security cooperation between the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga forces, and forming the joint brigades."

The commander of the second axis of the Peshmerga forces (Qara Tappa-Hemrin), Major-General Merdan Shawschin, said, "we managed to eradicate ISIS in our territory. We completely destroyed ISIS arsenal in Diyala and Saladin."

The commander ruled out the possibility of ISIS resurgence in the Kurdish areas after losing their spots. "However, the situation on the other side of the borders of Diyala-Khanaqin is not our duty. We are maintaining the gains of the December operation."
