#2 They recommend desiccant dust for bedbugs — would that work for cockroaches as well? From an article on bedbugs:

Desiccant dusts. Two low toxicity dusts with good effectiveness include silica aerogel and diatomaceous earth (DE). Both of these dusts are low risk to humans, and work by desiccating, or drying out, bed bugs that come in contact with it. Silica aerogel is, in some studies, superior for this purpose. It is sold under various trade names including Tri-Die™ and CimeXa™. Diatomaceous earth can also be effective. Look for DE for insect control–it is not the same product as diatomaceous earth used in swimming pool filters, which is dangerous to breath. Some pest control companies now use desiccant dusts extensively in bed bug control. These relatively inexpensive dust can be purchased online or in garden centers or hardware stores. Look for products labeled for indoor use and lightly dust all accessible crack, crevices and voids.

#3 silica aerogel is also useful for packaging anything that shouldn't get moist like camera lenses and electronics.

#4 #4 yes, in DC we have a huge roach population.Have had for years. Within 1000 yards of the White house. Houses and apartments crawling with them. Turn on a light and they scurry about from every surface in the apartment. Dogs food bowl or water bowl everywhere.

#7 Maybe these are 'elite' cockroaches. Or those in India are illiterate and can't read latest roach research and infer that they're not supposed to die. Because I went and found some roaches under my kitchen sink, sprayed them with the off-the-shelf thingy and lo and behold !

They suffered and died, silently screaming "Why ?!"

Lesson : Do not believe every study. Some are sponsored by manufacturers touting their new products.

Ugly post, I know

#11 Not to mention the huge, fat, roaches in the capital building Dale. You see them on TV all the time.

#12 OPSEC

The encroachers were growing precocious:
"Mass murderin' Burgers! Atrocious!"
Mods, scratch rature, pronto,
Before they catch on to
What works! Not all readers aren't roaches.

Not deliberately baiting Herb, just couldn't bring myself to second-guess that Pic-a-Nic, which reminded me, thirty-something years on, of a silly discussion re merits of using chunky PB for bait. Also, archy.

Finally... probably... while indulging a nostalgic craving for "Roach Prufe" imagery, stumbled across the mildly entertaining story of its inventor (purported story, I should say, having seen nothing of the site but that single page).

#13 Also... kid, first night in old house: Lights out. Dark rustlings and imaginings. Lights on. Freakin' scene from Aliens, and then some. Stomping or rolled up newspaper wasn't gonna cut it. Sprayed that bottle of death empty, more or less, and if it'd been a pulse rifle in the whatever watt range I'm pretty sure I'd have brought the house down and called it a good night's work. "Only way to be sure. Sorry." Of course it's all relative.
