Arnhem during Market-Garden, by hiding out in the basement for days on end. Also, that an eating disorder may have developed as a result of having no other choice but to simply control the hunger she faced until the shelling stopped.

My mother took her bike and joined the crowds tootling around the countryside searching for anything to feed the hidden, semi=hidden and open family members. Somehow Mama managed to acquire a sack of potatoes, which helped the family that hid her to survive to the end. The Dutch called it the Hunger Winter. Many died of hunger and cold.
