#2 Dr. Assad sees the hand writing on the wall concerning the inevitable showdown over Axis of Shi'ite Terror, big brother, Iran. Assad is pragmatic terrorist promoter, not of the same suicidal 7th century mindset as the fanatical mullahs in Tehran .

#4 This is a way of him pumping up the Israeli liberal "peace at any price" wing: He's not sincere, Sharon knows he's not sincere, but the Israeli left will believe that he IS sincere, and attack Sharon for not reciprocating and "pursuing all avenues for peace".
