#5 what exactly does the USA give up here ... to gain leverage with China. Do we trade Tibet for N Korea? We back off on pressure about the Tibet issue - look the other way while monks burn themselves to death- just so China can whisper in the ear of Kim Jon Un??

#6 Strong proponentcy of the Eisenhower containment strategy has become an institution. The US can't walk away from feeding NK, nor can the US territory of SK. If China carried the weight of this package they might shift it around a little bit to make it more manageable. Now, they poke it and each time NK becomes a media sensation.

#7 US gave up on Tibet long ago, except the bumper sticker front.

China would probably reign in North Korea (assist a coup) if US abandoned Taiwan.
