#2 Why does the government even have information on where someone lived 20 years ago?

Does the IRS keep this information from old tax records - and why?

And they don't timestamp their transactions? That is so simple and just so basic. Who designed this system - 4 year olds?

If they got that wrong - one has to wonder what other 'basic design flaw' are in there.

Let me guess... the administrator userid is 'admin' (or 'obama') and it' s password is 'pa55word'....

Surely using Microsoft Access (2000 - before MS implemented all that authenticate-license-to-run nonsense) and an illegal copy to boot.

Computer records on wage & income reported by third parties (1099's, etc.) are kept for 6-7 years, account transcripts (tax filing / info thereto) for 10, sometimes 11.

I don't know the official reason off the top of my head, but on more than a few occasions, this record retention's been of immense help when I'm trying to fix someone's tax problems. That's because the client won't have all the original documents, and a filed tax return has to match up with their records or you get a CP2000 Notice (automated bill).
