#1 Feh. I won't be impressed until he has them all shot. Then he can claim the "Stalin" prize.

#2 A sort of Russian Benghazi. Buggered if you do, buggered if you don't.

#4 I'll bet Putin is not asking himself WWBHOD (What Would Barack Hussein Obama DO)? I wonder what would happen if Obama were in the same position? He can't purge the military, he's already done that.

#5 No one wants to be on the bridge of the first rotting Russian rust bucket to be vaporized.

It's a bit different from hunting big game, but go for it Vlad. Put on one of those admiral's caps or other military gear you enjoy wearing and get your feet wet.

#6 Putin has very quietly rebuilt his ground forces over the last ten years. He moved the political officers out and placed war fighters loyal to him in power. His neglect of the Navy I had read as his desire to focus on the border states only. While I still hold his intentions are to regain control of the border states, his firing on the naval officers shows, to me anyway, that his next step is to rebuild his Navy so he can have a better global reach. While this seems to be a no brainer, if we have a few more years of the Obama crap-meaning Hillary, we will be outgunned both on land and at sea. Currently we do not have the ground forces required to fight the Russians, even if all our forces were sitting in Europe right now. In 5 years the Russian will be the dominant force on this planet.

#7 49 Pan,

You're not mentioning the Chinese in this context, is there a reason for that?

I've wondered if Russia has concerns about them or are they joining forces again?

#9 Russia seems to have problems with pacts with competitors. They always seem to end up invading.

#10 Alan. I was speaking specifically on Russian growth. I don't see China as the threat I see in the soviets. China is all about very small incremental growth. This island, that small plot of land. Etc. a very micro Approach to world domination. In the end we might all end up Chinese, but that's many many generations away. I was focused on the near term, next 50 years of threat.

#11 49 Pan - looks to me like the current crop of Alinsky-ites (Obama, Clinton, etc.) are at least aligned with the old Soviet system. Does that mean they are working FOR Putin, or independently along a parallel path, or for some retro opposition to Putin etc.? By their actions I can't tell they are not at least a aligned with the current Chicoms as with Putin.

We have always been at war with Eurasia.

#13 I don't know if they are aligned, would take some campaign funding research to get to that one. But they both are Alinsky/Trorsky students.
