#6 Lincoln fired a lot of generals. Too many egos involved. Like Vietnam, they can't face the fact that the pols don't want to pay the political capital to do what it takes to win. Eliminate the enemy's base of operation. In the case of Vietnam it was the North. In the case of Afghanistan it is Pakistan. Pull out. New uniforms all around.
