I understand a nuclear decapitation has existed since before Manhattan, but its always been the realm of the mad man villain in popular media and discussion.

I would find the post-exchange pinky swears legal justification that this was a one-time only moral imperative and nobody should or could claim this approach as justified absolutely fascinating, as well as all that stuff about NATO being a purely defensive pact.

#17 I was just reading that EC. While accidents do happen, this could kick off a war with an article 5 declaration.

I don't expect it to go that far. Most likely a sternly worded warning to Russia not to shoot missiles to close to the Polish border with the option of Poland shooting down Russian missiles over Ukraine. If Russia doesn't stop, I would expect air-to-air intercepts of missiles getting close.

#23 "Stray missiles" sounds like air-defense missiles that missed their intended targets and came down elsewhere. We have seen that happen before. Do we have actual Russian wreckage?

#31 If it's actually two missiles, it's not a true 'accident'. My bet would be on some Russian idiot setting the wrong target coords, assuming it was unintentional. Or it could be a deliberate 'accident' to deter the Poles, which is likely to have the opposite effect.
