German train crash controller was playing game on phone
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A signal controller at the center of an investigation into a German train crash that killed 11 people admitted on Tuesday to playing a game on his mobile phone while in charge on the day, the public prosecutor’s office said.

The man was detained on Tuesday after developments in the investigation into the head-on train collision in Bavaria in February, which was Germany’s biggest train crash since 1998. He faces possible charges of causing death through negligence.

The public prosecutor’s office in Traunstein, near the border with Austria, said investigations had found the man "turned on his mobile phone during his shift on the morning of the accident, started an online computer game and played actively... until just before the collision of the trains."

The man denied being distracted by the computer game. But the prosecutor’s office said the time period in which he was found to be playing the game meant it could be expected that he was not paying attention to a critical traffic intersection.

The controller gave the trains an incorrect signal and then hit the wrong buttons when issuing a distress signal, meaning it was not heard by the train conductors, the prosecutor’s office said.

The trains, carrying about 150 people in all, crashed at high speed on a 6-km (4-mile) stretch of track between the spa town of Bad Aibling and Kolbermoor, near the Austrian border.

THE Ohio State U Prez sez to disrupters: leave or you're expelled
Students at Ohio State University who attempted to occupy the area outside of president Michael V. Drake’s office late Wednesday night experienced a surprise — and a taste of the cruel, real world — when a senior administrator coolly advised them that they would be arrested and expelled if they didn’t retreat from their “occupied space.”

The protest began — as such protests often do these days — with a set of demands and the promise to remain firmly ensconced at Bricker Hall, Ohio State’s main administration building, until school officials capitulated to the demands.

The occupiers’ motley list of #ReclaimOSU demands includes “complete, comprehensive and detailed access to the Ohio State budget and investments immediately,” divestment from Caterpillar Inc. and Hewlett Packard because of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict and increased purchases of organic, locally-grown food.

At around 3:30 p.m., about 100 students representing #ReclaimOSU and other campus groups (including OSU Coalition for Black Lives) set up an “open mic” protest near Drake’s second-floor office inside Bricker Hall, reports The Columbus Dispatch. (A few faculty members also reportedly turned up.)

The assorted campus dissidents complained for several hours that no one listens to their complaints. They also claimed — in public, outside the president’s office — that Ohio State wants to silence them. Though most of the protesters skipped out of the event by around dinner time, a hardcore group of about two dozen demonstrators stayed until after midnight. They sang. They chanted.

Eventually, Ohio State senior vice president for administration Jay Kasey appeared to inform the radicals that the time had come to decamp from the taxpayer-funded building. Protesters asked what Kasey would happen if they chose to stay.

“Our police officers will physically pick you up and take you to a paddy wagon, and take you to be arrested,” he explained.

“If you are here at five o’clock, our current philosophy is we are going to take you out — escort you out of the building and arrest you. You will be discharged from school also.”

Kasey then confirmed to a demonstrator’s query that “discharged” means expelled.

“I want you to make good decisions. You’re smart kids,” he said. “We simply tell you the truth and you live with your actions.”

School officials concluded that they had the authority to order the protesters to leave — and to arrest and expel them if necessary — because their presence was disruptive and was not authorized.

Afghan police arrest men appearing in child sexual abuse documentary
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan police have tossed in the slammer
Please don't kill me!
two men appearing in a documentary film about the sexual abuse of children in Afghanistan, local officials in Balkh said.

The two men appeared in a documentary prepared by a Russian TV Channel about Bacha Bazi, sexual abuse of children.

Provincial police chief Syed Kamal Sadat said the two men, Jabar and Jamil, who are also famous as Raees, have been arrested after they appeared in the documentary film.

He said the men were arrested after appearing in the film that is harming the national identity of the Afghan people.

The documentary released last month focuses on the stigma of Bacha Baazi in Afghanistan which continues in parts of the country despite the act has been outlawed by the government.

According to documentary, the young boys are normally recruited by influential individuals, taking advantage of their poverty and other social issues the young boys face, including the enormous amount of money needed for the marriage.

The documentary findings shows the boys are receiving the cost of their wedding from their owners after they reach the age adolescence.

One of the men who has been allegedly arrested says the boys should be about 12, 13, or 15 years old to be recruited as a Bacha ‐ a term usually used to call the children recruited for dancing and other sexual abuse.

He said the business owners "support" their boys until their "sell-by-date" expires, at about 25. "When a boy is older, we make their life better. We buy the bacha clothes, pay for their wedding when they’re no longer wanted. We feed them well, we prepare all their food for them. We do everything!" he says in all honesty."

The documentary also reveals the sexual abuse the young children are subjected to, including painful sexual offense at the hands of their owners. "At first, I didn’t know much about it, I thought it was just a game," he told RT, adding that "sex can hurt badly too, but money is important," said one of the boys who was first offered to become a bach in the age of 12.

UN agencies step up efforts to aid drought-affected Somalia
The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Programme (WFP) are stepping up efforts to help communities in Somaliland and Puntland cope with a severe drought worsened by El Nino conditions, a UN spokesman said here Monday.
And they never seem to get anywhere...
“UNICEF said that these communities have lived through four successive poor rainy seasons and their ability to cope with the drought has been stretched to the limit,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at a daily news briefing here.

The two agencies are providing an integrated package of life-saving humanitarian assistance to halt the deteriorating food security and rising malnutrition in the affected areas of Somaliland and Puntland, where 385,000 need immediate assistance, while another 1.3 million are on the brink of slipping into a deeper crisis if rains continue to fall and aid is too slow to come.

“The communities have lived through four successive poor rainy seasons, and their ability to cope with the drought has been stretched to the limit,” said the UNICEF representative for Somalia, Steven Lauwerier.

“Our concerted efforts are needed now to save the lives of tens of thousands of children and their families. Any delay from the international community will put their lives further at risk of hunger and disease,” he said.

In addition to increased malnutrition cases and enrolment in nutrition programmes in the most affected areas, malnutrition-related deaths have been reported in areas such as Awdal region bordering Ethiopia.

In response, UNICEF is strengthening services at community level, deploying joint mobile health and nutrition teams to reach pastoral and other hard-to-reach groups. UNICEF is also providing 50,000 households with access to safe water via vouchers in the affected areas, and have repaired seven boreholes.

For its part, the WFP has provided food assistance and nutrition support for 147,000 vulnerable people in the areas worst affected by the drought, and the WFP continues to provide food or cash-based assistance to help families make it through the dry season.

“The people of Somalia know all too well the dangers of drought, but a drought does not have to mean a disaster — the world must recognize that we can save lives if we act in time,” said WFP Country Director Laurent Bukera. “It is absolutely critical that we are able to sustain assistance to the people affected by this crisis, so we can stem the damage of undernutrition for mothers and children before it has lifelong consequences.”
Are the people suspending their support for the crazy cousins who join the Shaboobs, ISIS and al-Qaeda? Let me know when they do.

#1  In Florida Donald Trump only got 45% of the vote but (because of Florida rules) Trump came away with 100% of the delegates.
This means that 55% of the voters in Florida did not vote for Trump but their votes ended up going to Trump anyway.
The voters don't even know who the delegates are that will be sent to represent them.
If you did not vote for Trump in Florida your vote now means nothing. You have neither a candidate nor a delegate that you selected.

I much prefer the Colorado system where the voters choose the delegates who will represent them. Even if your preferred candidate drops out (Like Rubio did during Arizona early voting) you still have your chosen delegate to represent you. So your vote is not wasted.

Contrary to what the media wants you to believe, Colorado delegates were not chosen by the GOP elite. There were 7 local elections and a State election. More than 65,000 people voted in Colorado to select their 34 preferred delegates.

#2  I think the whole problem is the Colorado Republican Party did a piss-poor job of getting out and explaining things to voters. Granted Trump has had since August of last year to get on top of this, or his "Best people" to get on top of this, or even SAY something. But the GOP in Colorado should still have done a better job of explaining.

For that matter this is nothing more than Trumps way of getting out votes for NY, if he truly gave a damn he would have attended the State Convention and railed against the party insiders to their faces. He didn't, he doesn't care, he's after NY and this will be forgotten in 2-4 weeks the same way Wisconsin has been forgotten.

Police constable shows judge
A hand grenade exploded inside courtroom in Karachi's Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) after a judge asked a police constable if he knew how grenades worked. The constable, instead of explaining his expertise in weapons and grenade handling to the judge, opted to demonstrate practically by promptly pulling out the pin from the grenade.
"One! Two! Five!"
This resulted in a loud explosion, injuring three including the constable and a court clerk.

The blast took place while hearing of a case was underway in courtroom-III. Two policemen and a court clerk were among injured and taken to a nearby hospital for first aid. Court's proceeding was briefly suspended as a result.

According to media reports, the grenade in question was the holy hand grenade of Antioch a locally developed bomb which was brought to the courtroom by Investigation Officer Abid Ali as evidence. The bomb was, reportedly, not defused before production in the court.

The police and paramilitary forces in the vicinity immediately surrounded the area after the explosion fearing a terrorist attack and the security forces were put on high alert.

It is safe to say that now the whole court knows how grenades work, including the curious judge.

According to authorities, the constable who apparently knows how grenades work will be punished severely after he recovers from his injuries.

New Russian Helicopter anti-missile system
[UPI] MOSCOW, April 12 (UPI) -- Russian Helicopters Holding Company says it is equipping five models of its military aircraft with a new on-board system to defend against MANPAD missiles and air-to-air missiles.

The defensive system is called President-S, which features a laser illumination detector, an ultraviolet missile approach warning system, an electro-optical electronic warfare system, decoy flares, and a control system.

The design of the President-S also includes a number of units, or stations, which can be placed within the helicopter airframe and on external attachment, the company said.

"Russian Helicopters is working to improve its aircraft by continuously upgrading and equipping them with next-generation onboard systems," said Alexander Mikheev, the director general of Russian Helicopters. "The new President-S will protect helicopters against hostile MANPADs and ensure high flight safety."

The system will be used on the company's Mi-171Sh and Mi-17-V5 multi-functional helicopters, Mi-26T2 heavy transport helicopter, and Mi-28NE and Ka-52 strike helicopters.

Russian Helicopters said 12 helicopters for foreign customers will be equipped with President-S this year; the onboard system is planned to be installed on the Mi-28NE Night Hunter and Ka-52 Alligator in 2017.

$1.48 Trillion: Government Collects Record-High Taxes in First Half of FY 2016
[Free Beacon] Inflation-adjusted federal tax revenues hit a record $1.48 trillion for the first half of fiscal year 2016, but the federal government still ran a $461 billion deficit during that time, according to the latest monthly Treasury Department statement.

Treasury receipts include tax revenue from individual income taxes, corporate income taxes, social insurance and retirement taxes, unemployment insurance taxes, excise taxes, estate and gift taxes, customs duties, and other miscellaneous items.

In the first half of fiscal 2016, which included the months of October, November, December, January, February, and March, the amount of taxes collected by the federal government outpaced the first half of all previous fiscal years, even after adjusting for inflation. The 2016 fiscal year begins on Oct. 1, 2015, and runs through Sept. 30, 2016.

The federal government collected $1,476,218,000,000 in the first half of fiscal year 2016. Most of the $1.48 trillion came from individual income taxes, which comprised almost half of that total, totaling $675 billion.

One year ago, the government collected $1.42 trillion in inflation-adjusted revenues in the first half of fiscal year 2015. The Treasury Department has been tracking these data on its website since 1998. In that fiscal year, the federal government collected $1.11 trillion in inflation-adjusted revenue in the first half of that fiscal year. This means that since 1998, tax revenues have increased 33 percent.

Although the federal government brought in a record of approximately $1.48 trillion in revenue in the first half of fiscal 2016, according to the Treasury, it also spent approximately $1.94 trillion, leaving a deficit of approximately $461 billion.

Worries about racism in US reach new high: Poll
[Iran Press TV] More than a third of Americans now say they are worried "a great deal" about race relations in the US, which is higher than at any time since 2001, a new poll has found.

The percentage of respondents who are worried a great deal rose seven points to 35 percent in the past year and has more than doubled in the past two years, according to a Gallup poll released Monday.

Concern about race relations has risen during an 18-month period marked by a series of deaths of unarmed African Americans at the hands of coppers.

These deaths sparked major, sometimes violent, protests and fueled the nationwide rise of the "Black Lives Matter" movement, which campaigns against violence toward black people.
