Loud-Mouthed Stephen A Smith: NFL Owners Reluctant to Sign Kaepernick Are ‘Soulless Businessmen'
[Breitbart] Friday, ESPN "First Take" co-host Stephen A. Smith said NFL owners reluctant to sign the controversial quarterback Colin Kaepernick because of the backlash that would come along with him are "soulless businessmen."

"The NFL owners who are reluctant to bring Colin Kaepernick on board are not cowards -- they’re soulless businessmen," argued Smith. "They’re scared of their bottom line being affected because they’re all about their dollars."
Smith dog bites feeding hand.

#1  they’re soulless businessmen

You just noticed? Never had a problem with multi-millionaires getting taxpayers to fund their entrainment centers stadiums? It's not like they're hospitals, fire or police stations, schools, ect. That's right, you are parasite that rides the back of those soulless businessmen.

#2  ...Mr Smith does not seem to realize that the team owners - however liberal they may be in their personal politics - are remarkably hard-nosed businesspeople. They are NOT going to kill the goose, but they also have to take public opinion into account...which is why they let that nice Mr Kaepernick fella do what he wanted, and not incidentally have a lousy season or two in the process.

The fact is that Colin has let his politics run away with him (not a good idea but perfectly legal) and let his skills go in the process (a very bad idea). He has no one to blame for his current state of unemployment but himself.

Mike

PS - there's a school of thought among the media that after a few QBs go down with injuries, Kaepernick will suddenly be a hot commodity. I hope no one is betting their house payments on that.

#3  Probably hard for Mr. Stephen A. Smith, but did he look at the viewership of NFL games, the attendance at the games where Colin Kaepernick played (or showed up)?

Does Mr. Stephen A. Smith even know the viewership and attendant revenue numbers for ESPN?

#4  Are you suggesting, pater, that $$$ is more important than social justice?

I strongly suspect Mr Stephen A. Smith doesn't give a rat's backside about either of those things as long as his paychecks keep clearing.

#7  So, when, say, the NFL owners refuse to allow Smith to interview anybody in their organizations?
No racism there...

#10  Are you suggesting, pater, that $$$ is more important than social justice?

It's rather hard to provide any African-American athlete exorbitant compensation on a multi-year contract with anything else but money.

#14  Besides the fact that Kaepernick is garbage (Stephen's words for bad players, not mine), he will cause whatever team he is with to lose viewers and revenue.

So yeah... soulless.... Kinda like you Stephen. Sacrificing everything and worshiping at the alter of the SWJ.

Fuck you and fuck ESPN. May you all lose everything and go broke.

I remember when ESPN first started they were only on two to three hours each day Monday thru Saturday. Anyway we can return to that?

Dunno what to make of this, but a San Antonio College professor showed up on campus sporting a plate carrier and a helmet. He said he was afraid because open carry on campus became legal last month. But since he is a leftist, I would guess he's just another exhibitionist.

I think he should be more worried about these folks than kids on college campuses who are armed.

I personally would be more worried about members of our security services carrying firearms than private citizens. Those guys are dangerous to the people they are s'posed to be protecting, as well as to themselves.

Finally, a profane explanation of the basic concept of terminal ballistics.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Is Mueller's Grand Jury Impeachment Step One?
[Nat Review] The principal function of a federal grand jury is to investigate a suspected crime with an eye toward returning an indictment -- a formal accusation of felony misconduct. In the alternative, a grand jury may file a "no true bill," a formal finding that the prosecutor failed to show probable cause that the subject of the investigation committed a crime.

Sometimes, however, to vote yea or nay on a proposed indictment is not the grand jury’s only option. In certain situations, federal law authorizes a grand jury to file a report detailing its findings, even if criminal charges are not forthcoming. One such situation involves investigations of public officials. Instead of returning an indictment, a grand jury may issue a report that recommends an official’s removal from office.

These columns have lamented the Justice Department’s assignment of a prosecutor to investigate the president without specifying a crime or the factual basis for a criminal investigation.

We’ve also observed that no indictable crime is required to trigger impeachment proceedings. Neither, we now note, is a provable crime a prerequisite for the issuance of a grand-jury report. Thus, the question arises: Is Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s impaneling of a new grand jury in Washington step one in the impeachment of President Donald Trump?

#1  Mueller's grand jury soviet style investigation and prosecution is designed to personally destroy as many of President Trump's associates as possible with grand jury testimony, intimidation, and leaks. This will isolate the President and neutralize him politically, destroying the presidency.

This is a coup de'etat on the installment plan, and is treason. Watch the cast of players on the Mueller (Obama)team and you will identify the players. This is big leage $h!t.

#2  Yes, the swamp creatures are fighting ferociously. Trump is the first president to challenge them in decades, possibly ever. Their very existence is at stake.

If nothing else, President Trump has revealed the meaninglessness of separate political parties as well as these evil, corrupt, parasitic beltway bastids for what they actually are.

I pray for the safety of both Trump and Pence.

#3  But think of the positive aspects Besoeker - Americans learn to focus on the real problem (the swamp), instead of concentrating on the meaningless sock puppets like Obama.

#4  If I were Trump, I'd seriously consider pardoning everyone Mueller investigates. Like, immediately the second Mueller looks in their direction. Basically make his witch hunt as pointless in real life as it is legally.

Trump would catch hell for it, but that will happen anyway.

#5  Is Mueller's Grand Jury Impeachment Civil War Step One?

FIFY. If you think you have problems with sanctuary cities and cooperation what are you doing to do when your civil war shifts from cold to hot? Think Northern Ireland or Iraq before the Anbar Awakening (but without the Awakening).

Someone Just Noticed That Trump Is Getting Stuff Done
h/t Instapundit
Achievements: After weeks and months of fixating on tweets and Russia, someone in the press decided to have a look at what the Trump administration has been up to since January. Lo and behold, they discovered that it's getting a lot done.

"Trump Has Quietly Accomplished More Than It Appears" reads the headline in the Atlantic.

"With the Trump administration's chaos sucking up all the attention," the article begins, "it's been able to move forward on a range of its priorities.... It is remaking the justice system, rewriting environmental rules, overhauling public-lands administration, and greenlighting major infrastructure projects. It is appointing figures who will guarantee the triumph of its ideological vision for decades to come."
A muleta is a stick with a red cloth hanging from it that is used in the final third (tercio de muleta or de muerte) of a bullfight.
The muleta obscures the sword, and as in his earlier work with the cape, the bullfighter uses it to attract the bull in a series of passes, demonstrating his control over it.

FBI email dump reveals collusion between media and DOJ to squash 2016 Lynch Clinton meeting
[Right Scoop] A new email dump from the FBI via a FOIA request by the ACLJ reveals what appears to be collusion between the media and the DOJ to squash the story about the 2016 meeting between Loretta Lynch and Bill Clinton on the tarmac in Phoenix, AZ.

Also Comey reportedly said the FBI had no documents related to this meeting to fill a prior FOIA request. That apparently isn’t true, given this new email dump.

His soon to be released 'tell all' book will explain it all away. You'll see.

#2  So Comey lied then. Will there be perjury charges?

Much was redacted about the tarmac meeting between Lynch and WJC. The Justice Department heavily redacted the documents under Exemption b (5), which allows agencies to withhold draft or deliberative process material.  The blacked-out material centers around talking points drafted and used by Justice to respond to press inquiries about the Lynch-Clinton meeting. More at Judicial Watch.

NAACP Warns Others Not to Go to Missouri
[Town Hall] For the first time ever, the NAACP is warning others not to travel to an entire state. Missouri is not safe for minorities, leaders concluded this week.

NAACP leaders cited stalled discrimination lawsuits and racial disparity in traffic incidents in the states as major contributors to their decision. Missouri NAACP President Rod Chapel referenced a few particular incidents that he says proves the state is unfairly targeting minority drivers and students.

Chapel is referring to Senate Bill 43, legislation Greitens signed several weeks ago that mandates former employees must prove discrimination was the main reason for their firing and not just a contributing factor.

State Representative Brandon Ellington pushed back against the NAACP's narrative and advisory.

"People should be concerned that we have a national organization that is painting Missouri as a racist state," he responded.

Ferguson, Missouri, you’ll recall, was the scene of unrest in 2014 following the police shooting of Michael Brown, an 18-year-old African-American male who had been caught stealing cigars from a convenience store.

I applaud 43 and the move to return to sanity, but it's the gov't sponsored 'affirmative action' recruitment and HIRING that should be examined.

Caught stealing cigars, assaulting a store owner, and trying to kill a cop.

The "Show me State" has become the state of false leftwing narratives.

Mueller's Investigators Worry They're Going To Get Sued
BLUF: [Red State] Why would 16 hot shot lawyers, not to mention the other 20 investigators and staff, fear being sued so much they felt they needed to buy the extra protection of insurance when the Justice Department will cover their legal fees for being sued for performing their duties? Could it be that they are going so far afield in the investigation that they fear they may be found to be acting outside of their duties? Who knows?

According to the CNN reporters, Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election has expanded into examining possible financial crimes unrelated to Russian election interference:

Dem tells Obama: 'We miss your intellect and integrity' in the White House
[The Hill] Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) wished former President Barack Obama a happy birthday on Friday with a tweet implicitly criticizing his successor.

"Happy Birthday @Barack Obama. We miss your intellect and integrity in the WH, and will continue fighting to preserve your progressive legacy," Schiff wrote.

Schiff, who is the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee that is probing ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, has been one of President Trump's most vocal critics.

Trump called Schiff "sleazy" for his role in the probe in a tweet last month.

India-Pakistan
Musharraf’s rantings
[DAWN] AS Pakistain’s only living ex-military dictator, retired Gen Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
has emerged as a front man for that small but significant club in the country’s history. Now, with the political downfall of Mr Musharraf’s bitter foe Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
, the former dictator has made one gleeful comment after another against civilian politicians in recent days. Much of it has been easy to ignore as the rantings of an individual who has failed to accept his present-day marginal political relevance. But in typical Musharrafian style, the former dictator has gone too far. In a shocking interview to BBC Urdu from his base in self-exile, Mr Musharraf has defended not just his record in office, but that of generals Zia and Ayub too. Mercifully, even for Mr Musharraf, a defence of Gen Yahya Khan’s record may have been a step too far. Still, the brazen defence of two extremely damaging military dictatorships in the country’s history and a sweeping denunciation of all civilian governments are extraordinary. Mr Musharraf may be unapologetic, but he is also terribly wrong.

The devastation wrought by military regimes can be gauged by a straightforward metric that even Mr Musharraf can understand: most have left office in humiliation and in the immediate aftermath of each dictatorship, there has been a consensus in the country that a return to civilian rule is necessary (in Gen Ayub’s case, the extraordinary political circumstances somewhat delayed the inevitable). In Mr Musharraf’s case, he has further humiliated himself by relying on his parent organization to save him from serious legal trouble and escaping the country on a medical pretext. With his nemesis out of political office, perhaps Mr Musharraf should test his own theory of the Pak people’s preference for military dictators over civilian leaders by returning to Pakistain and bravely facing whatever the courts have in store for him. Surely, the same courts that have delivered justice in the eyes of Mr Musharraf in the case of Mr Sharif will do what is right by a ruler who is loved by the people, as Mr Musharraf’s argument suggests.

The contrast between a former dictator’s cowardly words spoken from exile and the searing remarks by legendary pro-democracy advocate Asma Jahangir on Pak soil could not be more damning. Ms Jahangir, whose principled and outspoken stand on democratic values and principles have made her a national treasure, has once again publicly asked the kind of questions that few else dare. Her central question -- why do only civilian politicians face accountability in Pakistain? -- is answered by the arrogance and utter foolishness of Mr Musharraf’s remarks. Indeed, Mr Musharraf’s very freedom today is because of an ongoing distortion in the constitutional scheme of things. The selective and self-serving understanding of responsibilities under the Constitution is at the heart of those distortions. Perhaps the present military leadership ought to consider publicly distancing itself from Mr Musharraf’s remarks.

Science & Technology
China’s Evolving Surface Fleet
The missile fast-attack craft and amphibious fleets of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy (PLAN) have undergone significant modernization over the past fifteen years. The capabilities of both categories of vessels have improved even if their actual numbers have not increased dramatically. Examined from the perspective of PLA doctrine and training, the missions of these forces represent the PLAN’s past, present,
and future.

Taken together, these two categories of ships and boats enhance China’s deterrence posture, help defend its coastal waters, warn Taiwan of the dangers of further moves toward independence, add to China’s long-range sealift capacity, and assist in the PLA’s ability to conduct nontraditional security tasks. In the newer ships entering the inventory, we see both capabilities to conduct the PLA’s traditional mission of defense of China’s 18,000-kilometer coastline and 6,500 islands and hints of the missions of the future.

These two fleets represent the yin and yang of the PLAN: its enduring “offshore operations” missions and its future “blue-water” or “far-seas” tasks.
The US Navy is terrible about presenting these types of studies as news. Actual study is at the link (PDF)
