Shrunken Head of Jimmy Hoffa Found (WWN!)
They're back! Unfortunately, it is online only these days. Note that the slogan has changed from "world's only reliable newsaper" to "world only reliable news."
True enough, since we can rely on them to make up stuff 100% of the time rather than just when it just suits their agenda.
I always preferred "most trusted name in major media."

PONTIAC, Mich. -- Twenty-seven years after his mysterious disappearance from a Michigan restaurant, Jimmy Hoffa has been found -- as a shrunken head! The legendary labor leader's smoked, leathery, wrinkled 5-inch noggin was purchased for $22.95 by a retired Teamster at a Miami souvenir shop in June. Lou Terkel, 75, says he recognized his old union president immediately. "I couldn't believe my eyes," says Terkel, who took it back home to Michigan and promptly called the FBI.

Forensic experts compared DNA from Hoffa's hair found in the car in which he took his last ride and say it's a match.

Hoffa's disappearance in July 1975 has been the subject of a massive FBI investigation. He was declared legally dead in 1985. Theories about his body's location range from landfills to the Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

The Florida shop owner, says he "inherited" the head from his dead uncle, who also was a prominent voodoo priest in Miami. But how and why the head came to be shrunken and where the rest of Hoffa's body lies remain a mystery.

"Jimmy's not saying anything," says one investigator. "His lips are literally sewn shut!"

Just don't give it any attention, and don't worry. He'll be returning in his own time, probably shortly after the Emperor.

China: Corpse-selling racket busted
HONG KONG: Chinese police have arrested members of a gang suspected of murdering more than 100 disabled or elderly people and selling their corpses in a bizarre scheme to avoid cremations, a newspaper said on Tuesday.

Burials have traditionally been seen as the most respectful way to handle the dead in China, but were discouraged after the Communists came to power in 1949 to conserve farmland and eradicate superstition.

The bodies were bought by wealthy families and sent for cremation in lieu of deceased relatives who were then secretly buried, the South China Morning Post reported. The killers would trail their victims, usually mentally disabled or elderly people, "drag them into vehicles in remote areas and either strangle or poison them", the newspaper said.

#2  Culturally, the 'didge comes from Northern (tropical) Australia, made from termite-hollowed tree roots, and only played by men in ceremonies. These days, 'didges are made all over the country, and played-or attempted to be played- by anyone.
I have a fond memory of one night in a campground at Pimba, our school returning en masse from a trip to Adelaide, and we heard the sound of somebody trying to play a didge. Kids and parents descended on two surprised young Israeli men, sat respectfully in a semicircle in front of their tent, and Mimila (one of our Mom's) showed them how to play the didge. A very enjoyable evening.

Egyptian presenter accused of descrating mosque
The Egyptian prosecution is interrogating activist and host of an advice show on Orbit TV and Egyptian radio for allegedly deriding religion and desecrating a mosque. The incident revolves around a dispute between Buthaina Kamel, a popular presenter and co-founder of an anti-corruption movement in Egypt, and her landlord.

The conflict began when a spare-parts dealer bought a historic building in downtown Cairo and removed its garden to build a shopping mall in its place. The dealer's plans were met by opposition from the building's residents, among who were Kamel and her husband, university professor Emad Abou-Ghazi.

Political motivations?
To avoid confrontation with the residents, most of who are Christians, the new owner put a prayer rug in the disputed building and put a sign outside that said "Mosque inside."

According to the complaint lodged against her, Kamel entered the mosque with her shoes on. The files also labeled Kamel a "communist" and an "atheist."

"They did that to turn religious people against us," Kamel told AlArabiya.net.
"I never thought things will go that far. Now the victim is the criminal, and the authorities are not taking any action."

Kamel is the co-founder of the anti-corruption movement Shayfeen (Arabic for "We can see") and a member of the Egyptian Movement for Change, nicknamed Kefaya (Arabic for "Enough"), and took part in the campaign for the independence of the judiciary. She also made many documentaries about assaulting judges, election rigging, and the imprisonment of journalists.

Kamel has also participated in seminars opposing the transfer of power to the president's son, Gamal Mubarak, which made her the target of a hostile campaign by official newspapers.

Kamel said that the only crime she committed was trying to protect a historic part of downtown Cairo. But, she said, the owner turned out to have connections. "The Minister of Environment, the head of Cairo State Security, and the Governor of Cairo couldn't do anything. I wonder who's protecting him?"

Kamel added that the new owner put a picture of the Egyptian president on the building as if he were "sending us a message."

"Then his men started harassing us and filing complaints that we throw garbage on the people who come to pray at the mosque," said Kamel.

Kamel told AlArabiya.net that she has been the talk of the town because of the allegations. She said some people even warned her that an attempt could be made on her life, especially if official newspapers added fuel to the fire given the government's previous hostility to Kamel's political activism and her attempts to expose state corruption.

#1  I think they are wrong - NC is not an undecided state, neither is Michigan. The former is McCain and the latter is Obama.

If you put Florida and Ohio in the "leans McCain" column (he has 3+ points there) its incredibly close. Flip Virginia (I still see no way Obama wins it with the anger he has stirred up in the GOP parts of the state and its history of being 8+ for the GOP including Bush), likewise New Mexico and Minnesota for Obama and it may all come down to Colorado and New Hampshire.

And if they split (NH-McCain, CO-Obama) we could end up in a tie 269-269. Which means the house votes - meaning Obama wins it.

I'm putting in for my absentee ballot today now that I'm a resident of Colorado.

#2  Had a conversation this past Labor Day with my niece, who's an Obama campaign worker (I know, I know ...)

We agreed on few things, but one thing she and I agreed on completely is that Colorado will decide the election.

Virginia, Ohio, Nevada and Florida go McCain. Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Hampshire and Minnesota go Obama. All comes down to Colorado.

Former Attorney General Gonzales stored TS/SCI docs at home.... but its OK.
WASHINGTON - The Justice Department refused to prosecute former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for improperly — and possibly illegally — storing in his office and home classified information about two of the Bush administration's most sensitive counterterrorism efforts.

Mishandling classified materials violates Justice Department regulations, and removing them from special secure facilities without proper authorization is a misdemeanor crime.

A report issued Tuesday by the Justice Department's inspector general says the agency decided not to press charges against Gonzales, who resigned under fire last year.

#3  I have had multiple security clearances and access to compartmented material like that, and if *I* had taken material like that to my house I would be in prison, or at a minimum, convicted of a felony and paying a large fine after losing my job.

This is clearly a symptom of the bastards in DC believing they are "ruling elite" and exempt from the laws.

This must be stopped.

#4  Agree OS, just Lawyers protecting lawyers. There is a price to pay for looking the other way. The Sandy Berger SECRET documents in my shorts set the precedent. One must wonder if Berger and Gonzales still hold access.
Posted by: Besoeker || 09/03/2008 9:45 Comments || Top||

#5  I very much agree with OS. I held the clearances & access for over 30 years. "In the day," just mentioning that you had the access was enough to get you a severe hand-slapping... or more.

Polititions & political appointees should be held to the same standards as active duty military when handling classified materials. And, if that results in their access being revoked - replace them. Regardless of policital affiliation.

#6  How long has former Attorney General Gonzales been retired from that post? Prosecute him in his turn, after jailing Sandy Berger. After all, Sandy Berger took advantage of his former position and fast talking to remove and destroy critical original documents and all the copies in order to protect the culpable. Taking work home at night, which is how Gonzales' behaviour appears to be described, is not quite the same level of misbehaviour.

#7  Let's remember Sandy was front and center when the Clinton administration went full force on Wen Ho Lee. Mr. Lee spent pre-trial confinement in solitary [because the fed's feared that he'd transfer information through the usual cabal of thugs and common criminals in the Santa Fe confinement facility - as though they would understand what the dude talking about]. Of course Mr. Burger got off pretty much with a wrist slap, which is now the standard for the beltway good old boy crowd as we see.

Suspects 'walk on fire' to prove innocence
A jirga, headed by Bolan District Nazim Sardar Khan Rind, on Tuesday declared three accused murderers innocent after they walked on fire to prove their innocence. The three were accused of murdering a woman and two men. The deceased and the accused were members of the Sundrani tribe. The accused had claimed that they had not murdered anyone and that the woman had committed suicide, but her family alleged that she had been murdered. The jirga had asked the accused to prove their innocence to the elders according to Baloch tradition, which they did by walking across 10 feet of fire. They also swore their innocence on the holy Quran. Thousands of people witnessed the incident.

Pakistan: Women's bodies exhumed in northwest
(AKI) - Pakistani police have exhumed the bodies of two women allegedly buried alive in the northwestern province of Balochistan. The women were believed to have been buried alive in the Baba Kot area of Nasirabad last month. Reports from the area say the women were killed in July because they wanted to marry men of their own choice.

There are reports that three other women were also killed but police have not found their bodies and the number remains in dispute. Several people have been arrested in relation to the deaths.

On Monday, Pakistan's Senate called for action to be taken against those responsible for what it called "brutal murders".

Sources told the Pakistani daily, Dawn, that police opened the graves on information provided by two arrested men, Umaid Ali and Ghous Bakhsh Umrani.

According to an initial medical report, the skull of one of the women was found broken and there were bullet wounds on the other body. "I am hopeful that other bodies would also be recovered," said DIG Shabir, who is heading the special investigation team. "Soon the mystery of the killing will be resolved and other people involved in it will be arrested."

The Balochistan High Court on Monday granted police and the Human Rights Commission time to submit reports relating to the murders.

JI to observe World Hijab Day on 4th
The Jamaat-e-Islami has announced that the World Hijab Day, September 4, will be observed with the pledge to convince the world to acknowledge the basic right of Muslim women to cover themselves according to the commands of Almighty Allah.

Demonstrations, rallies and corner meetings will be held all over the country on the Hijab Day while talks will be held on electronic media about the need for Hijab, said JI Women Wing Secretary Sameea Raheel Qazi while addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club on Tuesday. She said two Hijab centres would be inaugurated in Lahore and Karachi with the name of "Qawareer Fashion."

JI Women Wing Punjab Head Humaira Tariq, Naib Head Kulsoom Ranjha, Women and Family Commission President Aafia Sarwar, Lahore leader Rahat Basheer, Naushaba Ahsan and Saima Farooq were also present.

Giving the background of the World Hijab Day, Ms Qazi said the day was observed all over the world as per the decision of a world assembly of Muslim scholars titled "Assembly for the Protection of Hijab" in London in January 2004, that had gathered to condemn the Sept 2, 2003 legislation banning the headscarf in France. She said the conference hosted by London's mayor and chaired by noted Muslim scholar Allama Yusuf Qardhawi was attended by over 300 delegates from the Muslim world who decided to wage an organised struggle to counter the discriminatory attitude of the West towards the Muslim women. She said the Hijab Day drew the world attention towards the violation of fundamental rights of Muslim women.

As the aircraft get larger and carry more weaponry, they in turn become critical SAM and AAM targets, which means that combat fighter drones are a big priority.

#2  That video is over 4 years old. Why isn't this system operational?

#3  #2, money. In addition, I suspect that there also needs to be a lot of research in giving the pilot/operator full situational awareness. Drones are presently being used in controlled environments. Right now they cannot be trusted to be in mixed traffic (manned/unmanned). They are a long way from that. In addition the pilot will need to be closer to the aircraft as real interaction, whether combat or civil, requires no time lag for commands and the availability of sufficient unjammable bandwidth. Not all actions are or should be without human intervention or responsibility. All of this is doable but requires time and money.

New Study Shows Solar System is Unique
Research conducted by a team of North American scientist shows our solar system is special, contrary to the accepted theory that it is an average planetary system. Using computer simulations to follow the development of planets, it was shown that very specific conditions are needed for a proto-stellar disk to evolve into a solar system-like planetary system. The simulations show that in most cases either no planets are created, or planets are formed and then migrate towards the disk center and acquire highly elliptical orbits.

#3  Statistically speaking, just about anything is possible, including our solar system actually hitting the exact set of conditions that led to the current situation. Perhaps God set it up that way, but there is no method that I am aware of to test your proposition, Besoeker. The difference between faith and science is that science by definition concerns itself only with testable propositions, whereas faith is concerned with is concerned with the untestable and the meaning of tested results.

In other words, Besoeker dear, did God set up the universe so that somewhere or other conditions could develop that would allow for self-aware beings? Or did it just happen? You are a smart man: how would you test that? Because I've been thinking about it off and on for a while, and promising God that the mouse in the test tube will die if He doesn't intervene is not a valid test.

3dc, You know I think the world of you, but special is not the same as unique. Special is merely unlikely... especially as ours is not the only galaxy, nor likely even the only universe, according to the mathematicians.

#4  So we're special. How nice.

#5  There are about 200 billion stars in our galaxy, and it is thought that there could be 200 billion galaxies in the observable universe. So in all that, and probably more, when you talk about religion that comes from one tiny little speck of dust called earth, it doesn't really make a big impression on me. But who knows.

#6  Remember that we're also talking about a planetary time period of about 5 billion years. During most of that time, our solar system was different, and it is unlikely to stay the way it is, either.

And as far as life goes, it is really a flash in the pan. Any number of events could wipe all life out on Earth in a short period of time.

#7  I'd lik to warn everyone that there are lies, damn lies, and computer simulations.

The only solar systems we can "see" are those with large mass, closely-orbiting planets, so there's a lot of selection bias built into current observations. This is just one model (of many) that appears to validate the biased observation.

#10  So .... one important step in simulation is to conduct sensitivity analyses.  By definition when we define a simulation model and run simulation excursions using different parameter values we've left out some aspects of reality and have estimated the values of certain parameters (or don't know the values at all).   So we do second-level analysis of how much that uncertainty matters WRT the conclusions we drew.   Sometimes our uncertainty doesn't really matter much - we could be off on some parameter or relationship by a factor of 2 or 3 or 10 and the results comes out pretty much the same. Other times it turns out that results are highly variable depending on the values given to one or more of the parameters.
If I'm understanding this short 3rd hand report correctly, these scientists simulated planetary formation under a variety of circumstances using the best current understanding (model) of the forces at work and discovered that, in fact, the outcome is highly sensitive to initial conditions in the gas cloud. That's pretty much all I could conclude one way or the other from the linked news account.

#11  E.g. HADRON MINI-COLLIDER > 'tis an example of the SUBJECTIVE/DIALECTIC DANGERS MAN CAN PUT HIMSELF IN WIDOUT NEED OF ASTEROIDS ANDOR GAMMA RAY BURSTS, ETC.

* "BIRTH PANGS" OF OWG-NWO > includ TIME-SPACE TRAVEL!?

IMO THE HADRON IS CAUSING MINI/MICRO-BLACK HOLES = WORM-HOLES TO APPEAR OVER GUAM-WESTPAC - based on my physical observations of atmospheric forces [Air, Wind, Light, Gravity-EM Bands] being dynamically "pushed-and-pulled" by same, IMO again it is also responsible for these new hurricanes in the Atlantic [TESLAN].

IFF MAN CAN EFFEC SAFELY EXPLORE DEVELOP AND CONTROL THESE HOLES, WIDOUT BLOWING/DESTROYING HIMSELF, TERRA FIRMA, + ..............@ TIME-SPACE CONTINUUM = UNIVERSE WID HIM, WE WILL HAD ADVANCED OUR KNOWLEDGE VV "ACCIDENTAL TOURIST" + PASSED AN IMPOR TEST OF "GLOBALISM" + SPACE EXPLORATION-COLONIZATION.

Again, this is just the BEGINNING - MORE TESTS TRIALS AND TRAGEDIES, ETC. TO COME.
