Gunman attack uranium convoy in Brazil
[BBC] Brazil gunmen shoot at convoy carrying nuclear fuel in Angra dos Reis

The convoy came under attack as it drove past a community controlled by drug traffickers in Angra dos Reis, a tourist city 145km (90 miles) from Rio.

Police escorting the convoy responded and a shootout followed. No-one was injured or detained.

The convoy reached the Angra 2 plant safely 20 minutes after the attack.

The attack in the Rio-Santos highway is the latest in a series of violent incidents in an area popular with visitors.

Dan Rather Issues Chilling Warning About Fox News and Russian Collusion
[Huffpoo] Veteran journalist Dan Rather delivered a scathing assessment of Fox News’ close ties to President Donald Trump’s administration in a new interview published Friday.

The former CBS news anchor told The Daily Beast he believes the widely watched conservative cable network is "not that far off" from becoming "a state-run, state-sponsored, straight-up propaganda outlet" for the Trump White House.

And that, he said, is "something we have to worry about."

"There are some good journalists working at Fox ‐ Chris Wallace comes to mind ― but if you look at it on the whole, particularly their primetime programming, you have the beginnings of a state-run media," Rather said.

"By any objective analysis, this is by far the closest we’ve come to Radio Moscow," he added, referring to the official state-run international broadcasting station of the former Soviet Union. Radio Moscow spread pro-Soviet propaganda and fake news in multiple languages throughout the Cold War, muddying the waters in several countries around issues as serious and life-threatening as the AIDS epidemic.

Fox News hosts Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham regularly stump for Trump on their respective shows. The New Yorker’s Jane Mayer detailed the symbiotic relationship between Fox News and the Trump White House in a deeply researched essay published earlier this month.

Faux News Will Keep Jeanine Pirro Off Schedule for Another Week
[Variety] "Justice With Judge Jeanine," the Saturday-night opinion show led by Jeanine Pirro, will be off the Fox News schedule for a second week in the wake of remarks she made about a Muslim congresswoman.

The network’s online schedule shows that it will run another repeat of the documentary series "Scandalous" in its place Saturday night at 9 p.m.

Fox News declined to comment and has in recent days said it will not elaborate on what it has called "scheduling changes." There has been recent speculation that Pirro, a fierce supporter of President Donald Trump, could return to the schedule Saturday, March 30. The president has taken to Twitter to express his support for Pirro’s show.

During her March 9th broadcast, the former New York prosecutor, suggested Minnesota Democrat Ihan Omar, a U.S. representative, did not respect the law set down by the Constitution of the United States. "Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which is antithetical to the U.S. Constitution?" Pirro asked. Oman is a Muslim. She has not appeared on Fox News since, and has not posted on Twitter since March 10.

Border Patrol releases Hundreds to Reduce Overcrowding
[LATimes] The Border Patrol released 250 migrants here on Tuesday and Wednesday and expects to free hundreds more in coming days because there is no room to hold them.

Normally, the agency would transfer the migrants to Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be "processed" and in many cases placed in detention facilities. But officials said Wednesday that a recent influx of Central American families has led to a severe shortage of space.
But it's not an emergency.
Immigrant advocates suggested the releases were intended to sow confusion at the border and further President Trump's argument that there is a national emergency there.

"They are doing this deliberately so they can release a ton of people at once and create chaos," said Efren Olivares, an attorney with the Texas Civil Rights Project, which sent lawyers to the McAllen bus station to monitor developments. "The government is trying to do this."
There are not too many people coming in. Send more!
Volunteers in the area are already accustomed to helping large numbers of newly released migrants. Elizabeth Cavazos, a leader of the migrant advocacy group Angry Tias & Abuelas of RGV, said ICE typically releases 300 to 500 migrants a day in McAllen.
Typically, but that's normal, not a crisis. That's 180,000 per year.
But additional releases in large numbers by the Border Patrol are likely to strain the system, she said.

"I feel like they're trying to put some stress on the volunteer and advocacy groups, all of us touting ‘There's no crisis down here,'" Cavazos said. "Maybe it's for them to save face because they've been calling this a border crisis and everything's peachy keen down here. That's what it feels like."
Open borders it what it feels like to me.

Irony Alert: Unhinged Mad Maxine Waters Believes Trump Should Be Impeached Because Of "Sanity" Issues
[Red State] When it comes to impeaching President Trump, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) never wastes an opportunity to jump off the deep end in encouraging her fellow Democrats to join her in getting it done.

The woman infamously referred to in conservative circles as "Mad Maxine" Waters unloaded on Twitter today in what was first a call-out to Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway over the very public, very angry back and forth between Conway’s husband George and Trump:

There are a number of things wrong with not only Waters’s call for impeachment but also her statement regarding how "psychiatrists describe" the president.

First, as Psychology Today noted in 2017 (not even a month into Trump’s presidency), a doctor diagnosing the mental health of a patient they’ve never seen is unethical:

Callous: Mike Pence Still Hasn't Apologized For Making Jussie Smollett Attack Himself
[Babylon Bee] Once again showing his colors as a callous, tone-deaf bigot, Vice President Mike Pence is still stubbornly refusing to apologize for making Jussie Smollett fake an attack on himself earlier this year.

Celebrities like Ellen Page pointed to the hateful, anti-LGBT rhetoric of Mike Pence and bigots like him as the primary cause of Smollett's attack. But despite ranting about him and then suddenly being silent when the attack was revealed to be a hoax, Pence hasn't so much as groveled at the feet of the left to ask for forgiveness.

"This is exactly what we've come to expect from the right," Page said in a tearful interview in between sobs. "We point out their bigotry, we point out their hatred. It's so bad that we are now being forced to attack ourselves in the streets. And despite all of our crying on late-night shows, they still refuse to acknowledge that they are the root cause of gay people attacking themselves."

"This is Trump's America," she added before screaming at the sky.

At publishing time, Pence was still refusing to apologize and even said he would continue to treat LGBT people with respect like some kind of monster.

As Predicted: Biden Eyeing Stacey Abrams As Possible Early VP Nominee
[Hot Air] I have little to add to this post from Tuesday except "Told you so."

Oh, and to reiterate that this would be a bad idea, possibly as much for Abrams as for Biden.

Close advisers to former Vice President Joe Biden are debating the idea of packaging his presidential campaign announcement with a pledge to choose Stacey Abrams as his vice president...

But the decision poses considerable risk, and some advisers are flatly opposed. Some have pointed out that in a Democratic debate, he could be asked why no one on the stage would be a worthy running mate...

Biden has discussed selecting a running mate early, a move that one senior Democrat said could hurt him by feeding "an air of inevitability," CNN reported.

Syria condemns Trump's stance on Golan Heights sovereignty
[Aljazeera] Damascus says Trump's stand shows "the blind bias of the US" towards Israel and vows to recover Israeli-occupied Golan.

Syria has condemned US President Donald Trump's statement that it is time to recognise Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, while its close military ally, Russia said changing the status of the territory would violate UN agreements.

Syrian state news agency cited a foreign ministry source on Friday as saying Trump's statement showed "the blind bias of the United States" towards Israel.

It did not change "the reality that the Golan was and will remain Syrian, Arab," the source said.
Oh Noes! How will we deal with their disapproval?
"The Syrian nation is more determined to liberate this precious piece of Syrian national land through all available means," the source told Reuters, adding that Trump's statement was "irresponsible" and showed "contempt" for international law.

Another close Syrian ally, Iran, also upbraided Trump for the comment he made on Thursday, which marks a dramatic shift in US policy over the status of a disputed area that was captured by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed in 1981 - a move not recognised internationally.

Last week, the US dropped "Israeli-occupied" designation in its annual human rights report, though the State Department insisted the wording change did not mean a policy change.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Will Democrats finally admit the Obama DOJ and FBI lied to the FISA court?
[Washington Examiner] The recently released transcript of Department of Justice lawyer Bruce Ohr’s congressional testimony confirms what conservatives have long been saying: The DOJ and FBI abused the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act process to obtain a court order to surveil former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Page served as a volunteer foreign policy adviser for then-presidential candidate Trump from March 2016 until he stepped away from the Trump campaign in late-September 2016, following a Yahoo News report that U.S. intelligence officials were investigating alleged meetings between Page and senior Russian officials. Shortly after Isikoff’s article ran, the DOJ and FBI filed the first of four FISA applications, seeking court approval to surveil Page. The FISA court granted all four surveillance requests.

While the FISA applications remained sealed before the secret FISA court, in early February 2018, then-House Intelligence Committee Devin Nunes, R-Calif., released a four-page memo detailing abuse by the DOJ and FBI in seeking to surveil Page. Then-House Intelligence Ranking Member Adam Schiff, D-Calif., soon countered with his own memo, which did nothing to dispel concerns. Later, the four FISA applications themselves were released which, though heavily redacted, added to the mosaic of abuse.

Pres. Trump blames Fed for holding back economic growth in 2018
WASHINGTON (AP) ‐ President Donald Trump says the economy would have grown much faster last year if the Federal Reserve had not been tightening credit last year.

In a broadcast interview, Trump said without the Fed’s rate hikes last year and moves to trim its bond holdings, the economy, as measured by the gross domestic product, would have grown by over 4 percent.

The GDP on an annualized basis grew by a solid 2.9 percent last year and when measured from the fourth quarter of 2017 to the fourth quarter of 2018, growth was an even stronger 3.1 percent.

Trump’s comments came in an interview with Fox Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo on Thursday. The network released excerpts and the interview will be broadcast Friday.

The Federal Reserve on Wednesday cut its expectations for future rate hikes from two this year to none and also announced a plan to end shrinking its balance sheet in September.

Asked if he felt he had an impact on these decisions, Trump said he had been right but whether his criticism had been a factor in the Fed’s decision "it doesn’t matter. I don’t care if I influenced or not."

Pres. Trump tweets abrupt shift on Golan Heights
JERUSALEM (AP) ‐ The Latest on the United States and Israel (all times local): 12:55 a.m.

President Donald Trump has abruptly declared the U.S. will recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the disputed Golan Heights, a major shift in American policy that gives Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a political boost a month before what is expected to be a close election.

The administration has been considering recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the strategic highlands, which Israel captured from Syria in 1967, for some time. Netanyahu had pressed the matter with visiting Secretary of State Mike Pompeo just a day earlier.

U.S. and Israeli officials said Wednesday they had not expected a decision until next week, when Netanyahu is to visit the U.S.

But in a tweet that appeared to catch many by surprise, Trump said the time had come.

The Christchurch Killer: Don't Blame Islam for Europe's Decline
[American Thinker] After Brenton Tarrant murdered 50 people in two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, he told police that his motive was to avenge "the hundreds of thousands of deaths caused by foreign invaders in European lands throughout history, [and] the enslavement of millions of Europeans taken from their lands by the Islamic slavers."

Tarrant's statement was an attempt to justify his homicidal attack. But are his words consistent with the history of the last 500 years? The record shows that it was population dynamics and intra-European conflicts that played the key roles in the struggle between the West and the rest.

Between 1492 and 1915, Europe ‐ despite constant warfare, epidemics, and emigration ‐ increased from 50 million people to 500 million, growing to 27 percent of the world's population. This skyrocketing birth rate provided the millions of soldiers and settlers who made it possible for the Occident to conquer quite a lot of the Earth.

Tarrant denounces "Islamic slavers," but the fact that European and Western societies are now a third of their former 27 percent of the global population is, at best, only indirectly due to Muslims. Between 1900 and 2018, they increased by a factor of 12 from 150 million to 1.8 billion people and reached an awe-inspiring 23 percent of the world's population.

The demographically rampant Europeans of the Age of Imperialism feared, above all, other Europeans. Between 1914 and 1945 alone, they killed around 70 million of their peers through wars, Gulags, and genocides. Muslim deaths after 1945 were also mostly victims of fellow believers due to even more vigorous birth rates. This applies to 80 to 90 percent of the approximately twelve million who perished by violence.

A small percentage of these Muslim deaths occurred in the various attempts to destroy Israel. In this series of wars, Muslim states lost some 65,000 men, about half a percent ‐ or five out of a thousand ‐ of the total number of Muslim casualties after 1945.

Marine Corps commander: Using troops at southern border an 'unacceptable risk' to readiness
[The Hill] Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Robert Neller has warned Pentagon leaders that President Trump’s deployment of active-duty troops to the U.S.-Mexico border and transferring Defense Department funds to support the administration’s border security efforts is creating "unacceptable risk" to the service’s combat readiness.

Neller's is the strongest warning yet from a military leader about the dangers Trump’s border security efforts pose to military readiness.

In two memos sent March 18 and March 19, first obtained by the Los Angeles Times, Neller said that he has canceled or reduced planned military training in at least five countries as well as delayed badly needed base repairs due to Trump’s "unplanned/unbudgeted" border deployment last fall and emergency declaration funding efforts.

The Marine Corps will not be able to participate in planned training exercises in Indonesia, Scotland and Mongolia, and will reduce participation in joint Australian and South Korean exercises, Neller wrote to Navy Secretary Richard Spencer and acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan.

Final Islamic State Stronghold in Syria Falls
[Breitbart] Fox News reported on Thursday that the final Islamic State stronghold in Syria, the village of Baghouz, has been liberated by the Kurdish-led, U.S.-allied Syrian Democratic Forces. The report has not been officially confirmed as of Thursday evening, but if Fox’s information is solid, the ISIS "caliphate" has been destroyed.
Fox News mentioned Syrian media reports about the action in Baghouz, but its Thursday exclusive was based primarily on observations from its own team on the ground in Syria:
It’s the first time since we’ve been here in Syria for five days that the bombs have stopped dropping and the gunfire has disappeared. We have witnessed the end of the caliphate ‐ the brutal empire that once ruled over 8 million people ‐ is gone.

Troops here are now bringing down the black flags of ISIS. The flags no longer fly over the town, instilling fear.

The last five days, Fox News has witnessed the last major offensive up close -‐ with U.S.-backed SDF forces attacking ISIS from three sides, pushing the fighters back, house to house, then tent to tent, against the Euphrates River.

Inside Baghouz, it’s easy to see how they hid for so long ‐ not just in tunnels but trenches and hundreds of cubby holes covered by tarpaulins, which blend in perfectly to the dirt.

In the end, the majority surrendered. In fact, since the start of the year about 60,000 have dripped into the desert, and most are now held in camps.

Fox quoted statements of gratitude from SDF fighters for U.S. support in the grueling campaign to wipe out the last ISIS redoubts and said the already staggering destruction would have been far worse if American forces had not assisted in routing the entrenched ISIS fighters. The SDF is now requesting assistance with the large number of prisoners taken during the battle.

Unfortunately, those prisoners do not include the top ISIS leaders, who appear to have abandoned their forces and fled. Reports surfaced in February of demoralized ISIS fighters complaining that "caliph" Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was nowhere to be found when the final battle was joined. In fact, there were reports the terrorist leader barely survived a coup attempt from his own troops in January and went into hiding.

President Donald Trump predicted on Wednesday morning that the last Islamic State stronghold would be "gone by tonight."

According to Reuters on Thursday evening, the SDF is sweeping the Baghouz area for the last few ISIS holdouts, booby traps, and landmines, and will formally announce the defeat of the Islamic State when the mop-up operation is complete.

#7  #5, I think you are remembering Apollo 12, which got hit by lightning, twice, during ascent from launch. Its a pretty famous Engineering event: "SCE to aux" - Engineer John Aaron in mission control and Astronaut Alan Bean saved the second mission to the moon from disaster due to simulation and training a year earlier...

At 52 seconds, as the rocket traveled at over 1,600 feet per second, another bolt shook the craft. The "8-ball" attitude indicator spun wildly and the lights on the instrument panel stopped flashing and went dead.... The astronauts approaching space and the engineers on Earth now had ninety seconds to decide whether to abort. John Aaron, a 24-year-old NASA engineer who hailed from Oklahoma made the call...

The loss of all three fuel cells put the CSM entirely on batteries, which were unable to maintain normal 75-ampere launch loads on the 28-volt DC bus. One of the AC inverters dropped offline. These power supply problems lit nearly every warning light on the control panel and caused much of the instrumentation to malfunction.

Electrical, Environmental and Consumables Manager (EECOM) John Aaron remembered the telemetry failure pattern from an earlier test when a power supply malfunctioned in the CSM Signal Conditioning Equipment (SCE), which converted raw signals from instrumentation to standard voltages for the spacecraft instrument displays and telemetry encoders.[3]

Aaron made a call, "Try SCE to aux," which switched the SCE to a backup power supply. The switch was fairly obscure, and neither Flight Director Gerald Griffin, CAPCOM Gerald Carr, nor Mission Commander Pete Conrad immediately recognized it. Lunar Module Pilot Alan Bean, flying in the right seat as the spacecraft systems engineer, remembered the SCE switch from a training incident a year earlier when the same failure had been simulated. Aaron's quick thinking and Bean's memory saved what could have been an aborted mission, and earned Aaron the reputation of a "steely-eyed missile man".[4] Bean put the fuel cells back on line, and with telemetry restored, the launch continued successfully. Once in Earth parking orbit, the crew carefully checked out their spacecraft before re-igniting the S-IVB third stage for trans-lunar injection. The lightning strikes had caused no serious permanent damage.

This was way back in the day when this nation still admired "steely-eyed missile men"

US says it will force Turkey to choose between NATO and Russian systems - report
[Rudaw] The United States may soon halt talks on the sale of its F-35 multirole fighter jets to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the most dubious NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure....

, if the NATO member continues to pursue a Russian-made missile defense system, a Pentagon brasshat has said.

"The S-400 is a computer. The F-35 is a computer. You don’t hook your computer to your adversary’s computer and that’s basically what we would be doing," Katie Wheelbarger, the acting assistant secretary of the Department of Defense for international security affairs, told Rooters.

The Ottoman Turkish Air Force is currently training at an airfield in the United States, and state-run Anadolu Agency reports the first two F-35s are set to be delivered in November.

However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
Ankara's insistence on obtaining the S-400 system from Russia has US officials reconsidering the sale.

Two Israelis lightly injured in West Bank firebomb attack
[IsraelTimes] A pair of Israelis were lightly injured on Thursday after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at their vehicle in the northern West Bank, according to the army.

The Israel Defense Forces said the two received medical treatment from military personnel following the attack near the Paleostinian city of Nablus and were later hospitalized. It said the car was also damaged.

Soldiers were searching the area for suspects, the army said.

A front man for the Samaria Regional Council said the car was hit while traveling between the settlements of Itamar and Elon Moreh.

The incident came amid heightened tensions in the West Bank following a week of deadly violence.

Egypt Proposal: Gaza Demilitarized In Exchange For Lifting Siege
[Jpost] A report in Israel Hayom on Thursday claimed that Egyptian security officials and senior Paleostinian officials in Gazoo and Ramallah told the newspaper that Israel and Egypt are preparing for the next stage of the Gazoo arrangement.

According to the sources, "the next stage in the arrangement will include the disarming and removal of all types of weapons from Gazoo, with the exception of light weapons to be supervised in exchange for the lifting of the blockade and a series of international projects to improve the situation in the Strip."

Israel shells Hamas post after explosion of balloon-borne bomb from Gaza
[IsraelTimes] An Israeli tank struck a Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", military post in the southern Gazoo Strip on Thursday, hours after an airborne bomb apparently launched from the Paleostinian enclave went kaboom! in Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces said the tank strike was in response to "exceptional" violent rioting by Paleostinians along the border fence, as well as the launching of incendiary balloons and bombs toward Israel throughout the day.

Israel as a policy holds Hamas responsible for all violence coming from Gazoo, which the Islamist terror group seized from the West Bank-based Paleostinian Authority in 2007.

Earlier, an bomb carried by balloons went kaboom! in southern Israel.

A photo released by the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council showed the remains of a rubber tube that had contained the kaboom. The improvised bomb is believed to have detached from the balloons and went kaboom! upon hitting the ground.

A police sapper was called to the scene and disposed of the device.

There were no reports of injuries or damage.

Pompeo Says Former Administrations were Lax in 'Reining in' Hizbullah
[AnNahar] U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday voiced regret that the previous U.S. administrations did not do much to "rein in" Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
Pompeo made the remarks in an interview with al-Arabiya television on the eve of an official visit to Leb.

The top U.S. diplomat hopes to use his first visit to Leb to step up pressure on Hizbullah and its regional backer Iran. But he is likely to face resistance even from Washington's Lebanese allies, who fear that pushing too hard could spark a backlash and endanger the tiny country's fragile peace.

Hizbullah wields more power than ever in parliament and the government.

Pompeo will meet Friday with President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
and will also hold talks with Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri
Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, a member of AMAL, a not very subtle Hizbullah sock puppet...
and Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil -- all three of whom are close Hizbullah allies. He will also meet with Prime Minister Saad Hariri
Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too.
, who is close to the West but has opted to strike a political settlement with Hizbullah.

PTI councillor among two more men handed life in jail over lynching of Mashal Khan
[DAWN] Two more men were sentenced to multiple counts of life imprisonment by an anti-terrorism court on Thursday for their involvement in the 2017 lynching of Mashal Khan.

Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
tehsil councillor Arif Khan and varsity employee Asad Khan Katlang were given four counts each of life imprisonment by ATC Judge Mehmoodul Hassan Khattak. Two other suspects identified as Sabir Mayar and Izharullah were acquitted by the court.

The written judgement issued today stated that, given the witness statements and supporting videos, photos and scene of the crime recoveries, it is "crystal clear" that PTI tehsil councillor Arif provoked and instigated a mob of students against Mashal.

Arif did this by "delivering provocative speeches", and even took "an active part in his murder by hatching a criminal conspiracy", following which "unlawful assembly was made for using criminal force and violence, which resulted in the barbaric death of Mashal".

The judgement noted: "The prosecution has been successful to bring home the charges levelled against him beyond shadow of any reasonable doubt, because the conspiracy to commit murder was generally not hatched in open places or within the view or hearing of outsiders, and it can be inferred from the facts and circumstances of the case, and no one should be permitted to take the law into his own hands on the pretext of punishing infidels."

Additionally, the judgement noted that Katlang was an "active participant of the aggravated infuriated mob and illegal assembly", and was clearly spotted kicking and hitting Mashal in various videos "so he is also convicted".

With respect to Sabir Mayar and Izharullah, "The prosecution could not be able to bring home any cogent and convincing reliable evidence against them, and nor they are seen in any video clips [...] hence these two are acquitted of all charges against them," the judgement said.

UK denies asylum to Iranian convert to Christianity, saying the religion is not 'peaceful'
[FoxNews] The U.K. government agency in charge of immigration has come under fire for denying political asylum to an Iranian convert to Christianity and explaining its decision on its contention that the religion is not peaceful.

The Iranian man had said in his asylum petition that he converted to Christianity because it was a "peaceful" religion.

The U.K. Home Office, which oversees immigration and passports, among other things, sent the Iranian national a letter that said the book of Revelations is "filled with imagery of revenge, destruction, death and violence," according to the Independent.

It cited excerpts from the Bible, according to the newspaper, and added: "These examples are inconsistent with your claim that you converted to Christianity after discovering it is a peaceful; religion, as opposed to Islam which contains violence, rage and revenge."

"The Home Office is notorious for coming up with any reason they can to refuse asylum and this looks like a particularly creative example, but not necessarily a systemic outbreak of anti-Christian sentiment in the department."
Was the Home Office official named Moohammad or Barry O.?

Why the shifting axis is driving people crazy: Evidence for a Human Geomagnetic Sense
[Science Daily] Many humans are able to unconsciously detect changes in Earth-strength magnetic fields, according to scientists at Caltech and the University of Tokyo.

The study, led by geoscientist Joseph Kirschvink (BS, MS '75) and neuroscientist Shin Shimojo at Caltech as well as neuroengineer Ayu Matani at the University of Tokyo, offers experimental evidence that human brain waves respond to controlled changes in Earth-strength magnetic fields. Kirschvink and Shimojo say this is the first concrete evidence of a new human sense: magnetoreception. Their findings were published by the journal eNeuro on March 18.

"Many animals have magnetoreception, so why not us?" asks Connie Wang, Caltech graduate student and lead author of the eNeuro study. For example, honeybees, salmon, turtles, birds, whales, and bats use the geomagnetic field to help them navigate, and dogs can be trained to locate buried magnets. It has long been theorized that humans may share a similar ability. However, despite a flurry of research attempting to test for it in the '80s, it has never been conclusively demonstrated.

"Aristotle described the five basic senses as including vision, hearing, taste, smell, and touch," says Kirschvink, co-corresponding author of the eNeuro study and Nico and Marilyn Van Wingen Professor of Geobiology. "However, he did not consider gravity, temperature, pain, balance, and several other internal stimuli that we now know are part of the human nervous system. Our animal ancestry argues that geomagnetic field sensors should also be there representing not the sixth sense but perhaps the 10th or 11th human sense to be discovered."

Suspect in Utrecht tram shooting to be charged with murder or manslaughter with terrorist intent
[DAWN] Dutch prosecutors say they will charge the main suspect in a deadly tram shooting that took place in Utrecht with offences including multiple murder or manslaughter with a terrorist intent.

In a statement on Thursday, the public prosecutor's office in Utrecht says that the suspect, identified by police as 37-year-old Gokmen Tanis, also faces charges of attempted murder or manslaughter and making threats with a terrorist intent.

Prosecutors say that investigations so far into Monday's shooting in a tram in the central city of Utrecht that left three dead and three seriously injured indicate that the shooter acted alone.

The statement adds that investigations continue into whether the suspect's actions "flowed from personal problems combined with a radicalised ideology."

Tanis is to appear before an investigating judge on Friday. Such hearings are held behind closed doors.

Indian soldier kills three comrades in occupied Kashmir
[DAWN] A paramilitary trooper in Indian-Indian Kashmiree rubbed out three of his comrades early on Thursday, officials said, as fresh violence raged in the restive territory where 40 troops died in a bombing last month.

Separately, an Indian soldier was killed in the latest exchange of fire with Pak forces across the de-facto Line of Control (LoC) border since last month's stand-off.

Local police said the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper opened fire on his colleagues with his service rifle at a camp in Udhampur, some 200 kilometres (125 miles) south of the main city Srinagar.

"He shot himself too and is in a critical condition at a hospital," Jammu police official MK Sinha told AFP, saying the man "may have been under the influence of drugs".

According to rights group Jammu Kashmire Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS), 20 Indian armed forces personnel killed themselves in 2018, the most in a decade. Since 2004 there have been 80 incidents of "fratricide" and 323 suicides, it says.

Experts say that the factors include stress, long duty hours, denial of leave and domestic issues, prompting authorities to initiate de-stressing initiatives for soldiers such as yoga.

Separately on Thursday morning, another Indian soldier was killed when the two nations again exchanged fire across the LoC near the southern area of Sundarbani, Indian army front man Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand told AFP.

Pakistan's sixth case of poliovirus in 2019 detected in Khyber
[DAWN] Another case of polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
virus has cropped up in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, bringing the number of cases reported in the province in 2019 to three, the National National Emergency Operation Centre announced on Thursday.

A one-year-old child has been diagnosed with polio in the Khyber district. According to Babar bin Atta, the prime minister's adviser on polio, the child had reportedly been administered polio drops regularly.

The adviser said that a case of polio was also discovered in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
and the addition of these two new cases brings the number of polio cases up to six this fiscal year. Of the six, three cases have been detected in KP ‐ one in Khyber, one in Bajaur and one in Hangu.

"Samples from the sewage lines of various cities show that the polio virus is present," Babar bin Atta said.

According to the district health department, four polio cases were reported in November and December 2018, while one polio case was reported in January 2019.

Harvard investigates 'trauma' among students after law professor agrees to represent Harvey Weinstein
[OUTLINE] Harvard University has launched an investigation into law professor Ronald Sullivan after he agreed to represent Harvey Weinstein in court.

Mr Sullivan, the university’s first African American faculty dean, joined Mr Weinstein’s legal team in January, ahead of the June trial for rape.

Mr Weinstein himself was spotted on Wednesday meeting a private investigator, Herman Weisberg, who he has hired to assist in his case. The two men met at a Cipriani Dolci restaurant in Grand Central station, with Mr Weinstein attempting to disguise his appearance with a black baseball cap and dark glasses.

Mr Sullivan, on joining Mr Weinstein’s team, felt the backlash almost immediately, as his students began complaining that his decision to represent the disgraced film producer traumatised them, and put them at risk.

A student, studying visual and environmental studies, started an online petition to remove Mr Sullivan from his position as faculty dean of Winthrop House, one of Harvard’s 12 undergraduate residential houses. The petition said his choice of client was "deeply trauma-inducing," and showed that Mr Sullivan doesn’t "value the safety of students". No students have signed so far.

The house was covered in #MeToo graffiti slogans, such as "your silence is violence", and the Association of Black Harvard Women complained that Mr Sullivan had "failed" female African-Americans at Harvard and had compromised his ability to support "survivors . . . as they deal with their trauma."

On January 25 Mr Sullivan wrote to the students at Winthrop House, where he is dean, explaining his decision to defend the reviled 67-year-old.

Afghanistan
At least six dead and dozens injured after an attack in Kabul
[ELUNIVERSAL] At least six people were killed in kabooms in a Shiite neighborhood of Kabul on Thursday when Nouruz, the Persian New Year, was celebrated, authorities announced.

" Twenty- three people were maimed and six were martyred in the kabooms," said Afghan Health Ministry front man Wahidulá Mayar. The Interior Ministry confirmed the balance, reported AFP.

The Taliban
...Arabic for students...
denied any involvement in this attack which, according to the police, was due to three remotely activated mines. One of the mines was placed in the toilets of a mosque, another behind a hospital and the third in an electricity meter.

The kabooms took place near the Kabul University and the Karte Saji mausoleum, where several Afghans gather every year to celebrate Nouruz, a festival considered as non-Islamic by bad boys.

The kabooms occurred far from the festivities, according to Kabul police front man Basir Mujahid, adding that a fourth mine was deactivated.

Gabon's Ali Bongo set for return after long illness abroad
[Al Jazeera] Gabonese President Ali Bongo, who is convalescing in Morocco after suffering a stroke five months ago, will return home this weekend for the third time since he fell ill, his office has said.

Bongo "will leave Morocco to return to Gabon on Saturday March 23," presidential front man Ike Ngouoni said in a statement on Thursday.

"[He] is delighted to return to his fellow countrymen ... and wishes to give his warmest thanks ... to the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, for his excellent welcome and incomparable support throughout his stay."

Bongo, 60, was taken ill on October 24 while visiting Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
He has returned only twice since then, staying less than 48 hours each time, although the government has insisted that he is in good shape.

In late February, Bongo led a cabinet meeting during which a raft of appointments were announced and several close aides were dismissed, although no media were on hand for the event.

Australian gets 2 years in jail for Iran trade
[PULSE.NG] Seven years after he was charged, David Levick, 57,
...the astoundingly ignorant finder of goods for those who want them, sort of like an international concierge...
from Cherrybrook, Australia, was ordered to prison after pleading guilty to four counts of violating the US International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which places tight restrictions on sales of sensitive equipment to Iran.

The exports took place in 2007-2008. At the time Levick was general manager of ICM Components, Inc., located in Thornleigh, Australia.

US authorities say he ordered the restricted materials on behalf of an Iranian company for transshipment to Iran.

When he was first charged, US authorities accused Levick of selling Iran US components of missiles, drones and torpedoes.

But the Justice Department statement Thursday made no mention of those.

Instead, he admitted to selling "precision pressure transducers," sensor devices with many applications, including in the avionics industry.

He also sold the Iranians emergency flotation system kits and assemblies for mounting lights on aircraft.

Levick was extradited from Australia in December 2018.

Levick was also ordered to forfeit nearly $200,000, the value of the goods involved in the Iran deals.

Ferry sinks in Tigris near Iraq's Mosul, killing 55
[DAWN] A ferry overloaded with people celebrating the Kurdish new year sank in the Tigris River near the Iraqi city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
on Thursday, killing at least 55 people, mostly women and kiddies, officials said.

Col. Hussam Khalil, head of the Civil Defense in the northern Nineveh province, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named the accident occurred as scores of people were out in a tourist area celebrating Nowruz, which marks the Kurdish new year and the arrival of spring.

Health Ministry front man Seif al-Badr said the dead include 33 women, 12 children and 10 men. He said 30 people were rescued, adding that search operations are still underway as it is not known how many people were aboard the ferry.

Khalil said the ferry sank because of a technical problem, and that there weren't many boats in the area to rescue people. He said more than 80 people were on the ferry when it sank.
Overloaded, technical problem probably due to poor maintenance, likely the passengers could not swim, there were no life jackets or rescue boats onboard... typical Third World inshallah behaviour.
The river's level was high because of a rainy season that brought more precipitation than in previous years.

Bernie Sanders: ‘We Must Follow New Zealand's Lead' on Assault-Rifle Ban
[National Review] Senator Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) on Thursday praised New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern for immediately banning military-style semi-automatic weapons in response to the Christchurch mosque shootings, and suggested the executive action should serve as a blueprint for the U.S.

The ban, which applies to semi-automatic rifles and shotguns that can be equipped with detachable magazines capable of holding more than five rounds, went into immediate effect Thursday to prevent stockpiling, and legislation codifying it is expected to pass Parliament in the coming days. Once the bill passes, New Zealanders will be granted a buyback period, after which they will be fined and jailed for up to three years if found in possession of a banned weapon.

"On 15 March, our history changed forever. Now, our laws will, too," Ardern said Thursday. "We are announcing action today on behalf of all New Zealanders to strengthen our gun laws and make our country a safer place."

Gun ownership is popular in New Zealand but there is no right to self defense codified in the country’s laws.

The announcement comes just six days after a 28-year-old Australian man killed 50 people and injured 40 others while rampaging through two mosques in Christchurch. The second shooting, at the Linwood mosque, was interrupted after one congregant retrieved his firearm from his house and returned to confront the attacker.

#4  Gun control is magical thinking:
People do bad things with guns.
If we get rid of guns,
people will stop doing bad things.

There is no question that guns are handy tools for shooting people, whether yourself or others.
But humans are resourceful and determined. How naive do you have to be to think that without guns people won't find alternate means to snuff themselves or commit mass murder. Knives, cars, bombs, cast iron fry pans... it's simply a matter of convenience and what's at hand.

Want evidence? Look at the incredible rise of knife crime in Britain. Getting rid of guns has not damped demand for violence and mayhem.

Trump calls on US to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over Golan Heights, Syria silent

...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
tweeted on Thursday that it is time for his nation to recognize Israel’s illusory sovereignty over the Golan Heights region.

After 52 years it is time for the United States to fully recognize Israel’s Sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which is of critical strategic and security importance to the State of Israel and Regional Stability!

Trump’s comments come just a week after U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham

Graham said he would be pushing for U.S. Congress to pass a bill that would recognize Israel’s illusory sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

still holds Israel’s presence in the Golan Heights as an ’occupation’, while also recognizing that it to be Syrian territory.

Kabul: ISIS jacket wallahs tied up, IED defused, 3 bombs kaboom 29 Shiite innocents

NDS Special Forces thwart ISIS plot to carry out suicide attacks in Kabul city

[KhaamaPress] The Special Forces of the Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS), thwarted ISIS plot to carry out a series of suicide attacks on the eve of the new Afghan year.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) in a statement said six ISIS Khurasan militants who were looking to carry out attacks on the eve of Nowruz, the start of new solar year, were arrested in Kabul city.

The statement further added that 44 militants were arrested during similar operations conducted in Khost, Kandahar, Zabul, Herat, Farah, Paktika, Badakhshan, Ghazni, Helmand, Balkh, and Sar-e-Pul provinces over the past one week.

The National Directorate of Security also added that 11 militants were killed during the same operations and some weapons and munitions were confiscated.

This comes as back to back explosions took place in Karte Sakhi area of Kabul city earlier today, leaving at least 30 people dead or wounded.

The Ministry of Public Health officials confirmed that 6 people were killed and 23 others were wounded in the explosions.

Police forces foil militants bid to detonate a bomb in Kabul city

[KhaamaPress] The Afghan National Police forces foiled militants bid to detonate an improvised explosive device in Kabul city as Afghans celebrate the start of the new solar year.

The Kabul Police Headquarters in a statement said the improvised explosive device was discovered from Kabul University road in 3rd police district of the city.

The statement further added that the improvised explosive device was defused by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team of Afghan National Police.

This comes as back to back explosions took place in Karte Sakhi area of Kabul city earlier today, leaving at least 30 people dead or wounded.

Explosions In Kabul Leave Six Dead

[ToloNews] The Ministry of Interior said on Thursday that six people were killed and 23 others were wounded in three explosions near a Nawroz celebration ceremony in Kabul.

According to the ministry, the explosions happened in Kabul’s PD3 near Kart-e-Sakhi, where people had gathered to celebrate the first day of the new solar year.

Interior Ministry spokesman Nusrat Rahimi said the explosives were placed at the area ahead of Nawroz.

“As a result of explosion of three mines that were placed in the area, six people including a woman were killed and 23 others who all are civilians have been wounded,” said Rahimi.

Lots of Kabul residents had gathered in the area to celebrate Nawroz, but the celebration later changed to mourning due to the back-to-back explosions.

The first two explosions happened near civilian houses in Kart-e-Sakhi, but the families living in the houses did not suffer fatalities.

“No one has suffered. The boys were taken preparations to go to the Nawroz ceremony. They had not left the house that the explosion happened and all the dust from the celling fallen on us,” Mariam, a resident of Kart-e-Sakhi said.

The third explosion happened near Ali Abad Hospital in the vicinity of Kart-e-Sahki in which three people were wounded.

Following the first two explosions, people quickly left Kart-e-Sakhi area and the roads at the area were closed by security forces.

The wounded people were transferred to Ali Abad Hospital. Most of the wounded were children and old men.
Al Ahram adds:
A string of explosions struck near a Shia shrine and cemetery in Kabul as people gathered there on Thursday morning to mark the holiday of Nowruz, the Persian New Year, leaving at least five dead and as many as 20 wounded, Afghan officials said.

The police's initial investigation indicated that three explosive devises had been remotely detonated, setting off the successive blasts, according to the Interior Ministry's spokesman Nasrat Rahim.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing but the Islamic State affiliate that has taken root in Afghanistan has targeted the country's minority Shia Muslims on numerous occasions in the past. The Sunni militant group considers Shiite Muslims heretics.

Shia worshippers had gathered at the Karti Sakhi shrine in the Afghan capital's western neighborhood when the blasts took place. The neighborhood is mostly populated by Shias. The tradition at the shrine is to hoist green flags and honor the dead at the cemetery by placing food at the gravesides.

Wary Afghans had been warned by authorities of violence ahead of the Nowruz celebrations. The holiday, dating back to at least 1700 B.C. and incorporating ancient Zoroastrian traditions, is the most important event in the Iranian calendar and is widely celebrated across the territories of the old Persian empire, from the Mideast to Central Asia.

Nicaragua joins Cuba, Venezuela on human rights black list
[PULSE.NG] The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) on Thursday put Nicaragua on its human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
black list along with Venezuela and Cuba, the group said.

In its annual report, citing a group of experts' conclusion in December, the IACHR said authorities committed crimes against humanity while cracking down on demonstrators against President Daniel Ortega's government.

The IACHR "has watched closely as Nicaragua's human rights situation continued to worsen, particularly since the start of violence from April 18, 2018, as part of state repression of protests," it said a statement.

Also in the report by the independent body of the Organization of American States, Venezuela and Cuba again were described as countries that did not meet respect for human rights.

Nicaragua has been mired in political crisis since April last year, when a protest initially against a now-scrapped pension reform snowballed into opposition to Ortega's rule.

The 73-year-old former left-wing guerrilla leader has been in power for more than 11 years but alongside his wife Vice President Rosario Murillo, he's been accused of ruling with an iron fist and committing rights abuses.

The deadly unrest has left at least 325 people dead, 2,000 people maimed, and sent 52,000 people into exile, human rights groups say.

Managua was to blame for what the IACHR called arbitrary and excessive use of police force -- use of parapolice groups without the state stopping them.

Ortega has rejected out of hand another key opposition demand that he steps down and brings forward elections slated for 2021.

He has offered to implement electoral reform and release prisoners -- some of whom have been charged with terrorism for taking part in protests against Ortega -- that have yet to be tried.

Intense clashes breakout across Idlib-Hama axis
[ALMASDARNEWS] A series of intense festivities broke out on Thursday between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Jaish al-Izza along the Idlib-Hama axis.

According to a military source at the town of Mhardeh, the Syrian Arab Army and Jaish al-Izza clashed at a number of different points along the Idlib-Hama axis, resulting in several casualties for both parties involved.

The source said the most intense festivities were reported near the northern Hama towns of Lahaya, Zakat, and al-Latamnah.

Meanwhile,
...back at the buffalo wallow, Standing Buffalo drew a bead on his old enemy and squeezed the trigger...
in the al-Ghaab Plain area, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that the military managed to destroy a number of hideouts belonging to the krazed killer groups in the village of Jisr Beit al-Ras.

The SANA report said as a result of this attack by the Syrian Arab Army, several gunnies were killed.

These festivities between the Syrian Arab Army and the krazed killer groups in northwestern Syria come just hours after the Russian Air Force unleashed a massive assault in the southwestern countryside of the Idlib Governorate.

The Russian Arclight airstrikes were reportedly carried out in retaliation for the jihadist attacks on the towns of Mhardeh, Salhab, and al-Suqaylabiyeh.

Baghouz: ISIS caliphate has crumbled and last stronghold liberated
[FOXNEWS] BAGHOUZ, Syria -- The caliphate has crumbled, and the final offensive is over. While the official announcement hasn’t yet been made ‐ Fox News has been told that this village, the last ISIS stronghold, is liberated.

There is a major concern about what to do with the camps though. The SDF has asked for U.S. support in setting up a tribunal here to prosecute them.

This final corner of the caliphate was in the far eastern desert of Syria‐ it was where ISIS first captured territory, and it is where they finally lost.

A clearing operation is now underway in the town‐ and an announcement is expected soon.

None of the main surviving ISIS leaders have been caught inside Baghouz. Instead, they left their men to fight alone. It’s thought they prepared ahead for the insurgency.

The scale of the devastation here is incredible. And everyone acknowledges that without U.S. support, it would have taken far longer.

For four-and-a-half years, ISIS held this territory, ruling over it with an iron fist. It was the terrorist group’s heartland ‐ and they were so dug in that the only way to push them back was to flatten whole villages. The devastation here goes on for miles ‐ and craters like this are a reminder of the critical role played by U.S. airpower. Military jets still fly overhead.

SDF fighters are all so grateful to the U.S., not just for their help in the battle, but now for its decision to leave troops here when it’s done. Reports now suggest the figure may be around 1,000 staying.
An Nahar adds:
The six-month-old operation to wipe out the last vestige of IS' once-sprawling proto-state is close to reaching its inevitable outcome, but SDF front man Mustefa Bali on Thursday said a victory announcement would be premature.

"Our force is still carrying out combing operations and searches" for hidden jihadists, he said.

"As soon as we are done, we will announce the liberation" of Baghouz, the front man added. His comments came one day after U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
said the jihadists' self-proclaimed "caliphate" would be "gone as of tonight."

It also came in response to reports earlier on Thursday that the IS enclave had completely fallen.

"The SDF media team has not announced this" victory, Bali said.

The frontline was quiet on Thursday, for the second-day in a row, as the SDF paused its push to allow for more surrenders. The eerie silence that reigned over the battlefield was interrupted only by the whooshing of warplanes overhead. SDF fighters walked unarmed in a wasteland of mangled vehicles on the camp's outskirts. The flags of the Kurdish-led force dotted the area.

- 'CHANCE TO SURRENDER'-
SDF official Jiaker Amed said Thursday that several IS fighters were still in hiding.

"We have discovered several (jihadist) hideouts," he told AFP.

"We are monitoring these fighters and if they don't surrender we will launch a new operation against them," he said.

While some fighters are refusing to surrender, other jihadists and their relatives are still turning themselves in, the SDF official said.

"We are giving them a chance to surrender by slowing the military offensive," he said.

Earlier on Wednesday, AFP correspondents saw trailer trucks carrying women and kiddies exiting the jihadist redoubt.

More than 66,000 people, mostly civilians, have quit the last IS redoubt since January 9, according to the SDF. They include 37,000 civilians, 5,000 jihadists and around 24,000 of their relatives. Thousands of people who have streamed out of the last IS stronghold now fill overcrowded camps and prisons run by the Kurds further north.

Around 2000 women and kiddies from Baghouz arrived on Wednesday night at the largest camp -- Al Hol.

The camp is struggling to host 72,000 people, including more than 40,000 children, the International Rescue Committee said.

"Up to 60 (of the latest) arrivals needed immediate hospitalization and there were another 12 deaths recorded," the IRC said in a statement. "These women and kiddies are in the worst condition we have seen since the crisis first began.

"Many have been caught up in the fighting and dozens have been burnt or badly injured by shrapnel," Wendy Taeuber of the IRC was quoted as saying.

At least 138 people, mostly children, have died en route to Al Hol or shortly after arriving at the camp since December, according to the IRC.

"We are expecting another 3,000 to arrive soon and we are very worried that they may be in even worse shape," it said.

Tweets suggest possible missile exchange between Pakistan and India
[Twitter]

Other tweets by many of the same players talk about some mullah banned for the past 3 years from preaching at the ISI's favorite "Red Mosque" returning to the pulpit Friday for an important message...
Also known as Lal Masjid. Fred’s cute little autotranslator has this to say:
Lal Masjid
...literally the Red Mosque, located in Islamabad and frequented by all sorts of high govt officials. The proprietors, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi, unleashed their Islamic storm troopers on the city, shutting down whorehouses and beating people up who weren't devout enough. The Musharraf govt put an end to the nonsense by besieging the place. Abdul Aziz Ghazi was nabbed while he was trying to escape dressed up like a girl. BBC reported that the corpse count at 173, but other claims, usually hysterical, say there were up to 1000 titzup. Among their number was Abdul Rashid Ghazi. Everyone then said tut-tut and what a nice guy he had been...

Musharraf put his foot down in 2007. Since then he’s fled Pakistan for more hospitable climes, while the Red Mosque has been restored to favour. Is the formerly banned mullah Maulana Abdul Aziz, caught back in 2001 while bravely sneaking out in girl’s clothing?

Abu Dhabi crown prince 'proposed killing Taliban leaders'
An interesting idea. Do go on, your highness.
[Al Jazeera] Mohammed bin Zayed, Abu Dhabi's crown prince, proposed to set up an liquidation programme targeting top Taliban

leaders during a meeting with the top US diplomat earlier this year, the Middle East Eye (MEE) news website has reported.

The crown prince made the offer during Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to the UAE on January 12 amid disagreements over the progress of peace talks between US and Taliban negotiators, MEE reported on Thursday, citing to a source with detailed knowledge of the meeting.

According to the source, bin Zayed told Pompeo that Washington risked allowing Afghanistan to fall back into the hands of the "backward, bearded bad guys" and proposed hiring mercenaries to kill Taliban leaders to weaken the group's negotiating position.

Pompeo was visibly taken aback by the offer, but said nothing, the source reportedly said.

The UAE has supported US efforts to broker a peace deal with the Taliban, and hosted a first round of negotiations between the two sides late last year in Abu Dhabi.

But bin Zayed is believed to have been frustrated that subsequent rounds of negotiations were moved to Qatar

In January, US and Taliban negotiators held a six-day meeting - which was described by Pompeo on Twitter as "encouraging" - in Doha, which also hosted marathon talks over 16 days in February and March.

Libyan human rights body denounces radical Madkhalist imam's description of scouts as infidels
[Libya Observer] The National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) has denounced the escalation of statements uttered by "Madkhalists" in Benghazi after they had recently called the Libyan Public Scout and Girl Guide Movement as well as Sufis non-believers.

NCHRL said on Monday that the imam of al-Arqam bin Abi al-Arqam mosque in Benghazi described the Public Scout and Girl Guide Movement last Friday as the byproduct of the "infidel west" and its "non-believing laws" warning of allowing children to join the movement.

"We denounce and reject this description and the verbal horrification and incitement that is part of the terrorist ideology used by the Madkhalists via mosques, fatwas and other manners." NCHRL added.

It remarked that Madkhalist groups took advantage of the absence of state institutions that would in normal times educate people on the perils such an ideology as theirs can create in the society and its freedom of thinking, religious practices and political practices as well.

"This is also a violation of international conventions and the International Declaration for Human Rights as well as a form of ideological terror." NCHRL indicated.

It accused Madkhalists of spreading an imported ideology inside the Libyan societies and thus jeopardize peacefulness and security in the country.

Madkhalism - a form of Salafism - has been on the rise in Libya especially in the areas under Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
's control as many of the sect's followers had joined the gangs in there, let alone the violence-harboring fatwas made by sheiks of the sect in Libya and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
against Haftar's opposition.

Earlier, the east-based Awqaf Authority was involved in controversy and exchange of accusations with many parties in Libya; the latest was the eastern Interim Government, due to murderous Moslem fatwas made by imams and religious holy mans calling social and religious figures across Libya infidels.

Italian politician opposed to mandatory vaccination of children is hospitalised with chicken pox
[EURONEWS] Some would call it karma. An Italian far-right politician who opposed making some vaccines for children mandatory has contracted chicken pox, according to reports by Italian media.

Massimiliano Fedriga, a member of the right-wing League party was hospitalised earlier this month with the highly contagious chicken pox infection, which causes an itchy rash with red fluid-filled blisters.

Fedriga was placed under observation for four days, said La Repubblica.
Here’s hoping he doesn’t get encephalitis or a bad case of shingles as a result. And of course one prays he doesn’t pass it on directly or indirectly to someone pregnant, causing damage to the fetus.
As president of the northeastern region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Fedriga vehemently opposed the "Lorenzin law," which made it mandatory for school-aged children to be vaccinated against several diseases including chicken pox, measles, and polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus.
The law came into effect last week and will fine parents up to €500 if they send unvaccinated children to school. Children under six who are in a nursery or kindergarten can be completely turned away under the new law.

The ruling Five Star Movement was for a long time opposed to making school vaccination requirements mandatory. Last year, the party threatened to overturn Italia's vaccination laws but later backed down on the issue.

Roger Stone Invokes Fifth Amendment On Nadler Document Requests
[DAILYCALLER] Conservative operative Roger Stone is invoking his Fifth Amendment privilege and refusing House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler’s request for documents in a far-reaching probe aimed at investigating President Donald Trump

and his associates.

"On the advice of counsel, Mr. Stone will not produce the documents requested by the House Committee on the Judiciary," Stone’s attorney wrote to Nadler in a letter reviewed by The Daily Caller, adding, "whether the documents requested by the House Committee on the Judiciary exist or not, they are subject to a Fifth Amendment claim."

Stone’s attorney continued, "Mr. Stone’s invocation of his Fifth Amendment rights must be understood by all to be the assertion of a Constitutional right by an innocent citizen, who is currently defending his innocence, and one who denounces secrecy for the purposes of advancing innuendo."

Stone instead noted that Nadler should seek relevant documents from the House Select Committee On Intelligence, where he testified in September 2017. Stone also pointed to the recent charges he faces from special counsel Robert Mueller’s office. Stone was indicted on seven counts by Mueller’s team on charges of allegedly making false statements to Congress, tampering with a witness and obstructing a government investigation.

JUI-F to bring ‘million march’ series to Punjab
[DAWN] The central leadership of Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...the political wing of the Pak Taliban...
(JUI-F) on Wednesday decided to bring their series of ’million marches’ to Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

with the motto to protect the ideological status of the country and oppose any move to make Pakistain a secular state.

Talking to the media after a meeting of the central Majlis-e-Amla of the party, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman
Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Diesel during the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty ...
said a ’million march’ will be held in Sargodha on March 31.

"The message of this million march is clear and will be heard by those in power and their mentors outside the country," Mr Rehman said.

He said a move is underway for making Pakistain a secular country and that this "foreign agenda" will be resisted. A million march will be held in North Wazoo on March 25, he said.

He criticized the PTI government for allowing protests and activities on International Women’s Day and alleged that such protests are part of the moves to make Pakistain a secular country.

He slammed the observing of International Women’s Day in the country and said his party workers will contain such activities in the future if they are not contained by the government.

"All these un-Islamic activities on Women’s Day have to be stopped and if the authorities fail to stop them, we will," Mr Rehman said.

JUI-F had initiated the series of million marches after the general elections of July 2018, starting with the demand that the Aasia Bibi, who was accused of blasphemy, should be hanged, against changes in blasphemy laws and upholding the respect for the last prophethood.

After Aasia Bibi was acquitted by the Supreme Court the goals and aim of the million marches was changed.

The main demand of million marches held in several cities of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa were against the price hike and the JUI-F had claimed that mismanagement by the PTI-led government was triggering economic woes for the public.

Guaidó: Who made the decision to imprison Roberto Marrero "committed another awkwardness"
[ELUNIVERSAL] The president of the National Assembly, Juan Guaidó, said that the arrest of his chief of office, Roberto Marrero, "does not change the route or the will of the people," to ensure that "we have prepared for this moment after the imprisonment of Leopoldo "(López) in 2014.

The lawyer Roberto Marrero was arrested by officials of Sebin early today at his home in Los Naranjos in Las Mercedes, municipality of Baruta, after a raid took place at his home and in the deputy Sergio Vergara, in the same town.

From the center Don Bosco, Guaidó warned officials that "there are direct consequences of executing unconstitutional orders and their leaders have already called to exculpate, know it."

On a presumed escalation by the Government to imprison him, Guaidó said that President Nicolás Maduro "does not dare or does not command" among the police component, to reiterate that "the chain of command is broken".

"Either he does not dare to imprison me or he just does not send and unjustly kidnapped Marrero, who, besides being part of my team, is a friend," he said, to then maintain that "there are no elements to stop Marrero."

"It is even ridiculous the mechanism to stop, laugh in the world. They are so coarse that they probably used the same weapons that they sowed to Gilber (Caro, arrested in 2017) (...) As they can not take prisoner to the president in charge, they look for the near ones to threaten. Whatever happens, as Marrero said, we move forward, "he said.

Guaidó said that the one who made the decision to imprison Roberto Marrero "committed another awkwardness" and commented that although the government seeks to "intimidate and generate the perception to go for everyone," they can not do it because, in their opinion, "it does not have the capacity "

"What will they go for me? Go ahead. The route is marked. Which is the message? Afraid? It's okay. Go ahead. Trust does not only come from knowing that we have citizenship, that we have the support of more than 60 nations, that we are covered by the Constitution; but the certainty that we are doing the right thing to save lives, " said the sworn in president in charge of Venezuela.
