Two Abu Sayyaf militants killed in Sulu clash
[Inquirer] An Abu Sayyaf sub-leader and an unidentified man were killed in a clash on Tuesday afternoon in Talipao town, in Sulu.

Military spokesman Divino Rey Pabayo said that troops clashed with five Abu Sayyaf rebels in a ten-minute firefight. The group was believed to be led by sub-leader Angah Ajid, whose body was left along with that of the unidentified man at the scene.

Ajid, who had been listed as a high-value target, was involved in a kidnapping in Sipadan on April 23, 2000.

On Monday, March 18, a clash in Banguingui town in Sulu resulted in one killed and one injured. Troops clashed with the rebels in sitio Mono-Mono in Simusa Island in a three-minute gun battle that killed Hamza Hamad, of Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte. Alvin Mohammad of Simusa Island was captured in the same encounter.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
It’s official: SDF declare ‘total elimination’ of ISIS caliphate
[Rudaw] The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) declared the territorial defeat of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS).

The SDF "declare total elimination of so-called caliphate and 100% territorial defeat of ISIS," Mustafa Bali, head of the force’s press office, announced on Twitter Saturday morning.

"On this unique day, we commemorate thousands of deaders whose efforts made the victory possible," Bali added.

Some 8,000 fighters of the SDF, a Kurdish-led umbrella force of Kurds, Arabs, and Christians of northern Syria, died in the war against ISIS. In Iraq, more than 1,800 Peshmerga were killed battling the group. The Iraqi army has not released their official figures casualties, but it is believed to be in the thousands.

The bright yellow flag of the SDF billowed in the wind on Saturday over Baghouz, the eastern Syrian village where the final battle against ISIS happened. The force held a brief presser in the village.

"We end the Jazeera Storm Operation here. We congratulate this victory as a glad tiding to Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians, and all the people of the world," said Chiya Firat, referring to the SDF’s operation against ISIS in eastern Deir ez-Zor. Firat commanded the operation.

"We finished ISIS on the ground. We give this victory as a gift to the whole world and wish the best for everyone," he said.

In an earlier tweet that was subsequently deleted, Bali said that Baghouz village had been "fully liberated, SDF made victory against ISIS."

Taking advantage of Syria’s civil conflict and sectarian divisions in Iraq, the so-called Islamic State swept across large parts of both countries in 2014, declaring a caliphate that imposed a brutal rule over millions.

The first military defeat of the group came in the Kurdish city of Kobane, northern Syria in 2015. That began a gradual liberation of territory from the bully boys. Iraq declared military victory over ISIS in 2017.

Brett McGurk, the former US representative to the global coalition against ISIS, sent his congratulations to the SDF for their "remarkable [and] historic achievement."

Though ISIS no longer controls any significant piece of territory in Iraq or Syria, they are estimated to still have thousands of fighters on both sides of the border and combatting the group’s ideology remains a monumental task.

ISIS "fed on perceptions of unfairness in Sunni communities.
...which may or may not be real...
Its ideology remains a potent threat to stability unless the wellsprings of its support are addressed,"
...that idea being that they are entitled by their god to take everything by force, inclluding the lives, of those who do not believe in their god precisely as they do...
warned David Miliband, president of the International Rescue Committee on Friday.

#1  The salient question is: What if the only way to deal with this is to be authoritarian or even totalitarian in a different direction?

I don't see too many Troo Conservatives (or Trump for that matter) addressing, let alone having any answers to this question.

It's not a nice thing to contemplate, but when it comes, The Great Reckoning won't care about your feelings.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Bennet's Bar, 8 Leven St, Edinburgh, EH3 9LG
[CN] What's the vibe at Bennet's?

Forget any sort of hipster pretension: Bennet's has retained its Victorian character since it first opened in 1839, making it a wonderful "old man bar" in the rapidly developing Tollcross. It’s full of antique charm, thanks to gorgeous stained glass windows and old maps under the glass tabletops. But a little modernity has crept in‐gorgeous red banquettes, for example‐making it a welcoming place for any age. Keep an eye out for the snug, Victorian-era space once frequented by those who didn't want to be seen in a public bar‐mostly women, priests, or policemen. You can relive those bygone days by ordering your drink through the hatch.

Cool. Tell us more about the crowd‐it sounds eclectic.
This is a casual place where locals stop in for a pint on their walk home. You won't catch too many tourists here (those who are, are likely heading to the theater next door).

What should we be drinking?
Beer or whisky‐the bar has more than 150 single malts alone.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
World united in condemnation of Trump over call to recognise Israel's claim to Golan Heights
[Independent] Germany and France have led a global backlash against Donald Trump after he said it was time to recognise Israel’s sovereignty over the disputed Golan Heights.

Iran, Turkey and Russia joined European powers in sharply criticising the US president, while Syria vowed to recover the area using "all available means".

Mr Trump took many ‐ including the Israeli government ‐ by surprise on Thursday when he tweeted his backing for Israel’s claim over the territory, marking a dramatic shift in policy over the status of an area captured in the 1967 Middle East war.

A German government spokesperson said Berlin "rejected unilateral steps" to redraw national boundaries, adding: "If national borders should be changed it must be done through peaceful means between all those involved."

Echoing those concerns, the French foreign ministry said it did not recognise the Israeli annexation of the Golan Heights and Mr Trump’s statement was "contrary to international law".

American Jews on the Brink of Civil War
[PJ] After decades of tilting left-liberal in the most conventional sense, something may be brewing among American Jewry that could result in real change, if it doesn't start an internal civil war.

The day Donald Trump announced the recognition of Israeli control of the Golan Heights is the same day it was reported that none--that's zero--- of the many 2020 Democratic Party presidential candidates would be speaking at or attending the AIPAC (America-Israel Public Affairs Committee) annual meeting later this month.

MoveOn.org had urged on them to avoid the conference, which has historically bent over backward to be welcoming to Democrats, and the candidates complied like dutiful lemmings.

The spokesman for Bernie Sanders, the one Jewish candidate (if you exempt "independent" Howard Schulz who also is not coming), said Bernie was not attending because of the prevalence of people "who oppose the two-state solution" between Israel and the Palestinians. This is an outright lie since virtually no one at AIPAC opposes the two-state solution. In fact, most of them yearn for it. But to Bernie, whose admiration of the Soviet Union is well known, such unashamed dishonesty is just more ends justifying the means. The truth is of little significance, nor is it of interest that it is the Palestinians who, if recent history is any indication, have no interest in the two-state solution. If they had had such an interest, they would have had a state of their own years ago.

Meanwhile, the same Democrat Party could not find it in itself directly to confront Rep. Ilhan Omar's overt anti-Semitism and chose to water down their condemnation in some vague pseudo-even-handed pabulum about opposing all discrimination.

Rashida Tlaib Lies About Her Grandmother So She Can Blame Israel
[The Algemeiner] Tlaib understands the power of grievance rhetoric. Once she says, "my living grandmother [is] in the West Bank in the occupied territories," that changes the whole dynamic of the debate. In fact, it's a "two-fer": Her own grandmother is an "occupied," persecuted person, which gives Tlaib standing; plus, it's her "living grandmother," so she's a real live eyewitness, which presumably gives Tlaib's assertions even more validity.

Except that Congresswoman Tlaib is lying.

Grandma Tlaib is a resident of the Palestinian Arab village of Beit Ur al-Fauqa. The Israeli occupation of that village ended in 1995. It has been governed by the Palestinian Authority (PA), not Israel, for the past 24 years. For the congresswoman to claim that her grandmother is "occupied" by the Israelis ‐ and therefore a victim of persecution and an eyewitness to Israeli "human rights violations" ‐ is simply a lie.

Michigan mom suing Spirit Airlines, says daughter was removed from flight without her knowledge
METRO AIRPORT (WXYZ) ‐ A Wayne County mother claims her 15-year-old daughter was booted from a Spirit Airlines flight from Tampa to Detroit without notice.

Now, she's taking action and suing the airline.

The alleged incident happened in April 2018 when the family was returning from Ft. Lauderdale, and had to switch planes in Tampa.

Stacy Giordano had a seat with her son in the back of the plane, and her daughter was reportedly assigned to a seat in the front of the aircraft. That's when Giordano's attorney Jerry Thurswell says the teenager was removed from the plane suddenly to make room for another passenger due to overbooking.

"They didn’t want to hear anything. They just pulled her off the plane," Thurswell told 7 Action News.

Thurswell said the teenager attempted to reach her mother by phone, but was unable to because of the airline's mandatory "airplane mode" policy on cell phones; Giordano's phone was not receiving messages. The teenager was put on another flight back to Detroit hours later. Giordano didn't realize her daughter was gone until mid-flight.

"When the child says my mother’s in the back of the plane why are you taking me off and they just take the child off and say sit here you’ll be on the next flight out - you don’t just separate a child from their mother," said Thurswell.

#4  I believe the term would be kidnapping.

Nah, just following procedures. According to the 3-ring binder, when you're overbooked, you chose a random passenger, boot them off the plane and offer them a ride on the next plane out. It's all there is black and white. No need for brains, thinking or common sense.

In other news, more workers doing rote procedural-driven tasks are finding themselves displaced by robots.

And yes, a kidnapping lawsuit would be most entertaining.

Ilhan Omar Holding Secret Fundraisers With Islamic Groups Tied to Terror
[Free Beacon] Democratic freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) has been holding a series of secret fundraisers with groups that have been tied to the support of terrorism, appearances that have been closed to the press and hidden from public view.

The content of these speeches, given to predominately Muslim audiences, remains unknown, prompting some of Omar's critics to express concern about the type of rhetoric she is using before these paying audiences, particularly in light of the lawmaker's repeated use of anti-Semitic tropes in public.

Omar recently spoke in Florida at a private event hosted by Islamic Relief, a charity organization long said to have deep ties to groups that advocate terrorism against Israel. Over the weekend, she will appear at another private event in California that is hosted by CAIR-CA PAC, a political action committee affiliated with the Council on American Islamic Relations, or CAIR a group that was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in a massive terror-funding incident.

Omar's appearance at these closed-door forums is raising eyebrows in the pro-Israel world due to her repeated and unapologetic public use of anti-Semitic stereotypes accusing Jewish people of controlling foreign policy and politics. With Omar's popularity skyrocketing on the anti-Israel left, it appears her rhetoric is translating into fundraising prowess.

It remains unclear what Omar has told these audiences in her private talks. Washington Free Beacon attempts to obtain video of past events were unsuccessful, and multiple local news and television outlets in the Tampa, Fla., area, where Omar spoke to Islamic Relief last month, confirmed they were unable to gain access to the closed door event.

Islamic Relief has come under congressional investigation for what lawmakers have described as its efforts to provide assistance to terrorist group such as Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. The charity has been banned by some countries as a result of these ties.

In 2017, Congress sought to ban taxpayer funds from reaching the charity due to these terror links.

A representative from Islamic Relief declined to provide the Free Beacon with any material related to Omar's appearance.

The man describes how he woke up with Smith on top of him with his tongue down his throat, how he tried to push the Fox host off him, and how Smith lunged at him three or four more times while continuing to force the unwanted physical encounter.

In a revelatory interview with Neil McCabe for Big League Politics, John Doe #1, 35, says that Smith took advantage of him. Here is audio from the interview:

Chick-fil-A Banned From Opening in San Antonio Airport
[US News and World Report] CHICK-FIL-A HAS BEEN banned from opening a store in San Antonio International Airport because of its "legacy of anti-LGBTQ behavior."

The San Antonio City Council on Thursday approved a new concessions agreement at the city's airport that will bring new food chains to one of its terminals.

[ SEE: The Week in Cartoons for March 18-22 ]
But City Councilman Roberto Trevino made a motion regarding the deal, amending it so that it did not include a planned Chick-fil-A eatery. Trevino's amendment was approved 6-4 by the council.

"With this decision, the City Council reaffirmed the work our city has done to become a champion of equality and inclusion. San Antonio is a city full of compassion, and we do not have room in our public facilities for a business with a legacy of anti-LGBTQ behavior," Trevino said. "Everyone has a place here, and everyone should feel welcome when they walk through our airport. I look forward to the announcement of a suitable replacement by Paradies."

The project includes a coffee shop, barbeque restaurant, a bagel shop and a market. A replacement for Chick-fil-A's spot will "be decided at a later date."

The company has long been under fire for its support of organizations that oppose gay marriage. The decision comes a day after Think Progress reported on Chick-fil-A's newly-released 2017 tax filings, which show that the Chick-fil-A Foundation gave more than $1.8 million to three organizations with a record of anti-LGBTQ discrimination, an increase from the prior year. The donations include more than $1.6 million to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, $6,000 to the Paul Anderson Youth Home and $150,000 to the Salvation Army.

Yellow Vest protests: Macron's 'risky' plan to put army on streets
[France24] French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that soldiers will be deployed across the country to help maintain security during Yellow Vest protests planned this weekend. But the move has been met with fierce criticism.

Authorities have vowed a 'zero tolerance' approach to this weekend's protests. Paris police have banned the protesters from a large area in the west of the city, including the famed Champs-Elysees avenue, scene of last week’s rampage by hundreds of anarchists, as well as the presidential palace and National Assembly.

Similar bans have been announced in the centres of Toulouse, Bordeaux, Dijon, Rennes and the southern city of Nice where Chinese President Xi Jinping is to meet Macron this weekend.

In a controverisal move, troops will be redeployed from the "Sentinelle" anti-terror operation during this weekend’s protests to secure government buildings and other sites, and to allow police forces to focus on maintaining public order.

However these soldiers are armed with automatic weapons, raising concerns about how they will respond if set upon by a group of rioters.

German police arrest 10 people on suspicion of planning Islamist attack
[BBC] Police in Germany have arrested 10 people on suspicion of planning an Islamist attack.

The arrests were made after some 200 police officers carried out raids in the states of Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. The men had plotted to "kill as many 'non-believers' as possible" using a vehicle and guns, prosecutors said.

A 21-year-old man from Offenbach, near Frankfurt, and two 31-year-old brothers from Wiesbaden are the main suspects.

"They had already made contact with different arms dealers, rented a large vehicle and collected financial assets to use for the purchase of guns and the execution of the planned murders," a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office said.

The suspects are aged between 20 and 42 and several are German nationals, the spokeswoman added. The men have been detained on charges of terrorism financing and criminal conspiracy.

Police seized 20,000 euros (£17,000; $22,500) in cash during the raids, as well as several knives, drugs, a number of electronic devices and documents.

Germany has been on high alert following several jihadist attacks in recent years. The most deadly was in December 2016 when a man drove a lorry into a crowded Christmas market in Berlin, killing 12 people.

Anis Amri, the Tunisian behind the attack, was shot and killed in Italy four days later.

Is anyone calling for lorry control laws to stop such horrific crimes? Demand that all lorries be registered with the state. Demand drivers undergo testing and qualify for a lorry license before they are allowed to operate these dangerous vehicles.

Africa Horn
Inside President Trump's escalating war on terror in Africa
[Washington Times] Despite reports the Pentagon will pull back its presence in Africa, the Trump administration’s military campaign against a radical Islamist group in Somalia is accelerating to a record level amid allegations from leading human rights groups that the U.S. is killing civilians and perpetrating war crimes.

At a time when the Pentagon has talked of pulling back its footprint in Africa, the U.S. military has carried out 28 airstrikes so far this year against the al-Shabab terror group in Somalia, records show ‐ more than 60 percent of the total for all of last year.

If the current 2019 pace continues, the U.S. may nearly triple the number of assaults from 2018. There were just 31 strikes in 2017, according to figures compiled by the Foundation for Defense of Democracy’s (FDD) Long War Journal project.

The sharply accelerated tempo of the bombing campaign ‐ which began during the waning days of the Obama administration and has steadily ramped up since President Trump came into office ‐ raises new questions after top military officials in recent weeks said they’ll pull back the number of troops stationed across the continent.

The reduction in deployed troops, coupled with the record-setting number of airstrikes, suggests the administration is quietly pursuing a new strategy in Africa and in Somalia specifically, one that centers on using drones and manned aircraft to target terrorist groups more aggressively while avoiding the ground combat and the possibility of new American casualties.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem Signs Pro-life Bills Requiring Woman to View Ultrasound, Hear Fetal Heartbeat
[Townhall] South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) signed a package of pro-life bills into law Wednesday that place new requirements on abortion providers including the requirement that a woman view a sonogram and hear the fetal heartbeat before an abortion.

The new laws, which go into effect July 1st, will also require a written consent form, provided by the state, prior to an abortion. They require doctors to report certain data on abortions to the state and also criminalize the causing of an abortion against the woman’s will.

Sarah Stoesz, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood North Central States, claimed the new laws were unnecessary in a statement Wednesday.

"The state has already squandered hundreds of thousands of dollars in litigation fees fighting for medically unnecessary abortion restrictions," Stoesz said. "The people of South Dakota want their lawmakers to focus on improving the health of our state; instead, they’ve passed more legislation that’s based on medically inaccurate information and contrary to the recommendations of health care professionals."

‘Highly Profitable Scam': Southern Poverty Law Center ‘Ripping Off Doners,' Former Staffer Says
[Daily Caller] The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is a "highly profitable scam" that "never lived up to the values it espoused," according to former SPLC staffer Bob Moser.

The New Yorker on Thursday published a scathing essay from Moser, now a Rolling Stone reporter, accusing the left-wing non-profit of "ripping off donors" while turning a blind eye to sexual harassment and racial discrimination within its own ranks.

The SPLC fired co-founder Morris Dees on March 13 over unspecified conduct issues.

The SPLC announced Dees’ firing after roughly two dozen SPLC employees previously signed a letter to the organization’s leadership expressing their alarm at "allegations of mistreatment, sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and racism," The Los Angeles Times reported.

Millennials Are The Most Prosperous Generation That's Ever Lived
[The Federalist] Why do millennials like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez embrace the most disastrous economic philosophy of the 20th century? Because millennials have suffered more than the generations that have come before them. At least this is the takeaway of the author of a new fawning cover story of the socialist congresswoman in Time magazine.

".@AOC and I were born the same year. She was a Dunkaroos kid‐I liked fruit roll-ups," Time reporter Charlotte Alter tweeted. "People our age have never experienced American prosperity in our adult lives‐which is why so many millennials are embracing Democratic socialism" (emphasis mine). Alter also claims that Ocasio-Cortez’s "adulthood was defined by financial crisis, debt & climate change. No wonder she and her peers are moving left."

The idea that millennials have toiled in uniquely grueling economic conditions exhibits a delusional and extraordinarily narrow understanding of history. Whether the majority of millennials believes this myth or not, I don’t know. I tend to doubt it. Alter is just repeating AOC’s contention. But, historically speaking, the only thing millennials have seen is relative prosperity, most of it provided by free markets and American political stability.

Although every generation has its struggles, if the world continues on its present trajectory, American millennials will have collectively lived the most peaceful, wealthiest, safest, most educated, and most globally connected lives in the history of the world.

For starters, millennials had the world opened to them like no one else, benefiting from the perhaps greatest technological revolution in information and commerce‐even more consequential than the printing revolution. As one clever tweeter noted, Alter "typed ’never experienced American prosperity’ on her new MacBook and sent it to her employer on her high speed internet then tweeted the story from a new iPhone X while sipping a latte from an avocado."

Rick Perry helps ailing Georgia nuclear plant with $3.7 billion in financing
[Washington Examiner] Energy Secretary Rick Perry on Friday issued a $3.7 billion federally-backed loan guarantee to keep the Vogtle nuclear power plant under construction in Georgia afloat after years of cost overruns and project delays.

Perry made the announcement after touring the site in Georgia with utility industry officials involved in the project, state regulators, and the governor of Georgia.

He said the Vogtle project is "critically important" to the administration’s goal of revitalizing and expanding the U.S. nuclear industry. "A strong nuclear industry supports a reliable and resilient grid, and strengthens our energy and national security," he said.

Perry also noted that Vogtle is an energy infrastructure project "with a massive scope employing thousands of workers" that is rebuilding a highly skilled nuclear workforce and supply chain for the future.

But while Perry was touring the site, critics argued that the new financing places the taxpayer on the hook for $12 billion if the power plant flounders.

He said Georgia Power, a Southern Company subsidiary and the majority owner of Vogtle, has ramped up the work schedule at the site near Waynesboro, Georgia, and said if that productivity continues the first of the two new reactors could come online as early as April 2021, seven months ahead of the current schedule, with the second coming online in April 2022.

As a long term governor of Texas his back ground involving Commanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant in Glenrose, Texas, which is a safe facility, qualifies him to make this investment call. The Democratic Presidential Contenders' Demeaning View of Americans
[American Thinker] When Democrat senator Kamala Harris announced her run for the presidency, she vowed to be a "tireless advocate of men and women who lack power and wealth." But Sen. Harris and her fellow Democrats are obsessed with removing power from We the People. Removing parent's power to raise their children, Democrats implemented mandatory LGBTQ indoctrination in public school. Parents are forbidden to opt out their child.

Sen. Harris and her party seek to remove more power from the people by disarming them. Students have been brainwashed into absurdly believing that law-abiding gun-owners are responsible for school shootings. Democrats are pushing to lower the voting age to 16 so kids will naively vote to repeal their parent's Second Amendment right to bear arms.

Power to freely worship is under attack by Democrats. They want to ban the Bible, criminalize quoting the Bible, and mandate that Christians betray biblical teachings.

Sen. Harris said that she will advocate for those who lack wealth. Between her party's obsession with oppressive taxation and outrageously high death taxes, everyday Americans are blocked from acquiring wealth.

"A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children." (Proverbs 13:22) Democrats make this biblical principle impossible. Cruelly, they rush to confiscate and redistribute children's inheritances. Children are forced to sell their parent's life's work (home and business) to pay the death taxes.

Sen. Harris said, "I knew I wanted to protect people. And I knew that the people in our society who are most often targeted by predators are also most often the voiceless and the vulnerable." This exposes Harris' demeaning view of America and Americans. There are no masses of Americans supposedly targeted by predators. This is another Democratic tactic of creating an enemy which does not exist.

Nation's Psychiatric Wards Prepare For Influx Of Deranged Liberals Should Mueller Report Not Prove Collusion
[Babylon Bee] U.S.‐The nation's psychiatric wards are preparing themselves for an influx of deranged liberals, as Robert Mueller's official report into Russian collusion has now been filed with the attorney general.

As it now seems unlikely that the report will provide definitive proof that President Trump colluded with Russia during his 2016 campaign, psych wards and mental health facilities began bracing themselves for a wave of psychotic, disillusioned liberals to be checked in by their friends and family members.

"We haven't really had to get ourselves ready for this many patients since Kavanaugh was confirmed," said a worker at a hospital near Washington, D.C. "That was a crazy time. Of course, Trump's inauguration saw thousands upon thousands of people being checked into our facilities, and we're preparing for this to be the biggest wave of deluded, traumatized liberals yet."

"Batten down the hatches, boys---this is gonna get ugly," he said. "We're gonna need a bigger psych ward."

At publishing time, the crisis was partially postponed as liberals announced they would delay confronting the cold, hard facts of reality until Trump's second term.

France bans 'yellow vest' protests on Paris Champs-Elysees and key sites
[DW] After the most violent scenes of the 'gilets jaunes' protests last weekend, police are closing off some key areas this weekend. Redeployment of soldiers to free up police for public order roles has also caused concern.

The Gay Paree prefect's office said that protesters will be prevented from marching on to the Champs-Elysees from the streets surrounding the Arc de Triomphe, at the top of the avenue and several nearby areas including the president's Elysee Palace and the National Assembly.

"There are serious reasons to believe that violence and damage are likely during the scheduled demonstrations," the prefect's office said in a statement on Friday.

Last weekend, fires were set on the Champs-Elysees damaging newspaper kiosks, shops and the famous Fouquet restaurant, which will be closed for repairs for several weeks.

There will be similar bans in other major cities such as Marseille, Toulouse
...lies on the banks of the River Garonne, half-way between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The Toulouse metropolitan area is the fourth-largest in La Belle France...
and Nice, where President Emmanuel Macron is due to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday.

If there are rallies on Saturday, it would be the 19th weekend in a row they have taken place. Anyone defying the bans would face fines. Speaking on Thursday, Interior Minister Christophe Castaner demanded a "zero tolerance" police approach towards violent protesters.

THE RIGHT TO DEMONSTRATE
Protests in other parts of Gay Paree will be allowed to go ahead on Saturday: "The right to demonstrate, which is a fundamental freedom, will be allowed" but "any riotous groups will be immediately dispersed," police declared.

What began as a mass protest against an increase in fuel taxes ‐ hence the use of the 'yellow vests' which must by law be carried in any car for emergencies in La Belle France ‐ has decreased in terms of numbers of participants but intensified in terms of acts of violence and damage.

The Gay Paree police chief lost his job this week after police appeared to hold back as hundreds of violent protesters burned and looted more than a hundred shops and businesses. These so-called "black blocs," according to Castaner "belong in prison, not on the Champs-Elysees."

There were reports that Hugo Boss had been smashed so Gay Paree St Germain soccer shirts could be grabbed.

SOLDIERS REDEPLOYED
Soldiers are being redeployed from the "Sentinelle" anti-terror operation during this weekend's protests to secure government buildings and other sites. This will free up police to: "concentrate on crowd control, along with maintaining law and order," government front man Benjamin Griveaux said. Police have been working continuously since the protests began on November 17.

However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
the soldiers will not be involved in public order operations, Defense Minister Florence Parly said it was "obviously out of the question" that the soldiers would come face-to-face with demonstrators she told Le Gay Pareeien.

Gay Paree military governor General Bruno Le Ray confirmed via public broadcaster La Belle FranceInfo that troops were authorized to open fire if their lives were at risk.

International-UN-NGOs
UN to step up human rights monitoring at Gaza protests
[DeutscheWelle] A United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
report found Israel's shooting of demonstrators could amount to crimes against humanity. The Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on Israeli accountability, but the European vote was divided.

The United Nations will step up the presence of monitors in Gazoo after its human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
body said Israel's shootings of Paleostinians could be deemed crimes against humanity.

Five UN human rights officers will be sent to Gazoo to monitor "ongoing violations" against civilian protesters after hundreds were killed in demonstrations last year.

The UN Human Rights Council passed a resolution on Friday condemning the "apparent intentional use of unlawful lethal and other excessive force by Israel" and called for the perpetrators to face justice.

The body asked for cooperation with an International Criminal Court examination into Israeli violations opened in 2015.

The resolution passed with 23 votes in favor, eight against and 15 abstentions, with European states divided.

REPORT INTO DEATHS DIVIDES
More than 189 Paleostinians have been killed and thousands more injured in the last 12 months in marches demanding Israel ease the blockade of the enclave and recognize Gazooks' right to return to lands they fled during the creation of Israel in 1948.

A report released last month found only two incidences when Israeli troops were within their rights to use live ammunition when confronting protesters. The toll included 35 children, two journalists and medical workers.

It also acknowledged that Gazoo's ruling party Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, encouraged the use of incendiary projectiles.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the report, while Israeli ambassador Aviva Raz Shechter said the report contained "clear evidence of political bias against Israel."

European countries were divided on the resolution with Britannia and Italia abstaining, Spain voting in favor and Austria and Hungary against. The US quit the organization last year over a perceived anti-Israel bias.

PROTESTERS TURN ON HAMAS
Demonstrators have turned on Hamas since last week, with multiple rallies against rising prices and dissatisfaction with the ruling party.
Rights groups said security forces cracked down on protesters and UN envoy Nickolay Mladenov condemned their "campaign of arrests and violence."

Youth unemployment in Gazoo is 70 percent, mainly due to the Israeli blockade of the strip and the closed border with Egypt, according to the World Bank.
The Times of Israel adds the Israeli perspective:
Twenty-three countries voted to in favor of the measure, with eight opposing it. Another 15 countries abstained, while one was absent.

The countries that voted against adopting the report were Australia, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Fiji, Hungary, Togo and Ukraine.

The decision was condemned by the Foreign Ministry, which claimed that a "moral majority" did not vote in favor of the measure.

"Dictatorships and hypocrites vote in favor of the singling out, absurd pro Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", pro terror report," ministry front man Emmanuel Nahshon wrote on Twitter.

"We will not cooperate with this mockery and will keep protecting Israel and Israelis," he added.

According to the probe, Israeli security forces shot more than 6,000 Paleostinians who participated in protests along the Gazoo border between March and December 2018, killing 183 people, including 32 children.

Israel says the protests were organized by Hamas and were aimed at breaching the border fence with the specific aim of killing Israelis.

According to the commission of inquiry, fewer than 30 of those killed were "members of Paleostinian organized gangs," adding that Israeli troops’ use of live fire was only justified in very few cases in which they faced an immediate threat to life.

Hamas has acknowledged that dozens of those killed were its members.

Israel rejected the report outright, denouncing it two weeks ago, when the commission published a brief summary of it.

Migrants fail German tests in increasing numbers
[DW] The number of migrants colonists and refugees failing Germany's integration and language classes has risen. Germany's migration office has been under fire for the quality of the courses.

Around 45 percent of migrants colonists taking part in language and integration courses in Germany do not pass, according to media reports citing the response to a request for information by the far-right AfD party.

Of the roughly 202,000 people taking a course in 2018, 93,500 failed, according to government data cited in the Neue Osnabrucker Zeitung daily. One in four failed even after doing additional classes.

In 2017, the percentage of those who failed was 40 percent.

The course is aimed at teaching participants a lower to intermediate level of German, classified as B1. It also requires people to sit an exam titled "Life in Germany."

According to figures quoted in daily Die Welt nearly 40,000 of those taking part last year were Syrians, followed by Afghans, Iraqis, Romanians, Turks and Bulgarians.

Nearly 45,000 participants were illiterate when they started their classes.

Welt reported Friday that some providers are being sued by the BAMF for fraud and the falsifying of documents. The paper says one course provider is even suspected of aiding and abetting the subreption of citizenship by letting participants pass without the required language skills.

The report says 16 providers had seen their license revoked or not renewed last year. BAMF is to publish definitive figures in May, the paper states.

The report says one issue is that no clear guidelines have been set to assess what constitutes "orderly, regular attendance" of courses, leaving it up to the individual teacher to decide if a participant has attended often enough to pass.

German Parliament Extends Military Mandate For Afghan Mission
[ToloNews] Germany’s parliament has granted a one-year extension of its military mandate for Afghanistan, allowing the country’s first major post-war troop deployment to continue until March 31, 2020.

The approval allows Germany’s military, the Bundeswehr, which are mostly deployed in the north of Afghanistan, to keep up to 1,300 soldiers in the country as part of NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
’s Resolute Support mission, providing support and training to Afghan cops.

Markus Potzel, Germany’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistain in a tweet on Friday made the announcement and said a vast majority in German Parliament voted for an extension of Germany military’s contribution to the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.

"Up to 1,300 German soldiers will continue to train, assist, advise AFG security forces," he said.

The mission has been extended with virtually the same mandate as in past years, though recent suggestions from Washington that the United States may draw down its presence have provoked some uncertainty among NATO allies.

Quoted by dpa.international, Fritz Felgentreu, a politician from Germany’s Social Democrats, urged the deployment to continue but warned that if the US were to leave prematurely, the Bundeswehr would be expected to depart as well.

Off their meds again: North Korea abruptly withdraws staff from liaison office at border with the South
[SCMP] North Korea pulled its staff out of an inter-Korean liaison office on Friday, Seoul said, weeks after leader Kim Pudge Jong-un

ended without agreement.

The office in the Northern city of Kaesong was opened in September as the two Koreas knitted closer ties, but the South’s vice unification minister Chun Hae-sung told news hounds Pyongyang had "notified the South they are pulling out of the liaison office".

The decision had been taken "in accordance with an order from an upper command", he said, adding: "They said they didn’t care whether we stayed at the liaison office or not."

'Flip of a switch’: Scientists 'cure' alcoholism in rats by firing lasers at their brains
[RT] Rats have been cured of alcoholism by having laser beams blasted at their brains, ending their dependency with a “flip of a switch,” exciting new research has revealed.
Ummm... You go first.
Scientists from Scripps Research fired lasers at specific neurons in the alcohol-addicted rat brains, which rid the rats of the desire to drink, as well as reducing the physical symptoms associated with alcohol withdrawal.

As soon as the lasers were turned off, however, the addiction symptoms would return.

The researchers identified a “specific neuronal population in a deep region of the brain that is activated during alcohol withdrawal and which controls alcohol drinking in a rodent model of alcoholism,” Olivier George, an associate professor at Scripps Research, told Digital Trends.

They also identified the pathways these corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) neurons use to control other parts of the brain, which produces the addiction behaviors.

Also on rt.com Scientists pinpoint part of brain that inhibits fear, hope for PTSD breakthrough

The team then used optogenetics, which use light to control cells, to manipulate the neurons. Fibre optics were implanted deep in the brain before they were used to shine light on the CRF neurons to inhibit them.

While the idea of blasting brains with lasers to change their function could have alarming consequences for mind control in the future, scientists have said it could take decades before the method could be tested on humans, and up to 30 years before alcoholics could be fitted with brain implants.

German prosecutors arrest 10 suspects over Islamist attack plan
[DW] Prosecutors in Frankfurt said the ten individuals were detained on suspicion of planning an Islamist attack using a car and guns. The aim was to kill as many people as possible.

Prosecutors in Frankfurt issued a statement on Friday to say the suspects were detained in police raids involving 200 officers in the Frankfurt region earlier in the day.

Commenting on the raids, Hesse state interior minister Peter Beuth said: "Police intervened in a timely manner to prevent possible attack plans at an early stage."

There were no details on the nationalities of the suspects whose ages were given at between 20 and 42 years. They live in the Frankfurt, Offenbach, Wiesbaden and Mainz areas. Eleven people were initially incarcerated
Please don't kill me!
but the investigation was centered on ten suspects.

The main suspects were a 21-year old man from Offenbach and two 31-year brothers from Wiesbaden, all associated with the local Islamist Salafist community. All are German citizens.

The number of registered Islamists in the state of Hesse in 2017 was 4,170, including 1,650 Salafists
...Salafists are ostentatiously devout Moslems who figure the ostentation of their piety gives them the right to tell others how to do it and to kill those who don't listen to them...

KILLING UNBELIEVERS
According to the initial investigation, the accused were planning to use a vehicle and firearms to kill as many "unbelievers" as possible. They had rented a large vehicle and made contact with weapons' dealers and started to raise funds.

During the raids, police found and seized over €20,000 ($22,500) in cash, several knives, small quantities of narcotics, a variety of documents and electronic data storage equipment.

The charges include funding terrorism and conspiring to commit a crime. The accused are due to appear before a judge at the District Court of Frankfurt on Friday afternoon.

A number of plots have been foiled by police in recent months, with some similar raids.
Russia Today adds:
Several of the suspects are German citizens, according to the prosecutor’s office, but no other nationalities were specified.

Britain
UK denies asylum to Iranian convert to Christianity, saying the religion is not 'peaceful'
[FOXNEWS] The U.K. government agency in charge of immigration has come under fire for denying political asylum to an Iranian convert to Christianity and explaining its decision on its contention that the religion is not peaceful.

The Iranian man had said in his asylum petition that he converted to Christianity because it was a "peaceful" religion.

The U.K. Home Office, which oversees immigration and passports, among other things, sent the Iranian national a letter that said the book of Revelations is "filled with imagery of Dire Revenge, destruction, death and violence," according to the Independent.

It cited excerpts from the Bible, according to the newspaper, and added: "These examples are inconsistent with your claim that you converted to Christianity after discovering it is a ’peaceful’ religion, as opposed to Islam which contains violence, rage and Dire Revenge."

The newspaper said it reached out to the Home Office for comment and was told that the letter the asylum seeker had received did not follow its protocol for handling petitions based on religious persecution. The agency said it was trying to improve training for officers who decide religious conversion-related cases.

Legal experts are holding the case up as an example of what they say is the agency’s pattern of over-reaching to deny political asylum.

Nathan Stevens, the asylum seeker’s caseworker, tweeted: "I’ve seen a lot over the years, but even I was genuinely shocked to read this unbelievably offensive diatribe being used to justify a refusal of asylum.

CNN Admits No Further Mueller Indictments Is a ‘Huge Victory for the President’
[NEWSBUSTERS.ORG] Talk about a bad day to be analysts, commentators, hosts, and pundits at CNN who had been wanting the First Family’s legal situation to end in criminal charges and for the Trump presidency to end in disgrace.

On Friday afternoon after the Mueller Report had been handed over to Attorney General Bill Barr, chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin and crime and justice news hound Shimon Prokupecz conceded that the lack of further indictments (sealed or unsealed) in relation to the Mueller probe is a "huge victory for the President" and "really good news" for individuals who had been subject to endless media speculation.

How bad did it get? Two CNN personalities even admitted that Trump "had been vindicated." More on that shortly.

After Laura Jarrett delivered the news that there would be no further indictments (or recommended ones), Prokupecz told host Wolf Blitzer that this was "probably one of the most significant pieces of information of all this because there's been so much speculation from everywhere" that "more is coming."

In the end, he noted "that’s not happening" even though there are other investigations that are Russia-related out there.

"So, the investigation itself in terms of other parts of this is not over. It's very important ‐ it's a very important line and there's a reason why they're saying this. No other indictments from Robert Mueller," he added.

Toobin then interjected and disregarded a setup from Blitzer so he could emphatically assert that everyone should "be specific" about this because "[t]his is really good news for a lot of people around Donald Trump

#4  From the NYT article (I figured it'd be the worst-case) -

With department officials emphasizing that Mr. Mueller’s inquiry was over and his office closing, the question for both Mr. Trump’s critics and defenders was whether the prosecutors condemned the president’s behavior in their report, exonerated him — or neither. The president’s lawyers were already girding for a possible fight over whether they could assert executive privilege to keep parts of the report secret.

Drag Queen Story Time organizers in Houston call it quits amid 'death threats and national scorn'
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Organizers of a Houston Public Library program where drag queens could read stories to children are calling it quits after a drag queen who participated in the program turned out to be a registered child sex offender, sparking widespread outrage.

Trent Lira and Devin Will, the founders of Drag Queen Story Time, said they and their "kings and queens" who participated in the program have been the target of harassment and death threats since they first launched at the Freed-Montrose Library in September 2017. But that harassment escalated to dangerous levels, they said, after it was revealed that Albert Alfonso Garza, a 32-year-old drag queen who participated in the program under the name Tatiana Mala-Niña, was previously convicted for the aggravated sexual assault of an 8-year-old child.

The Houston Public Library issued an apology last week saying it failed to run a background check on Garza, as its policy requires. The Drag Queen Story Time organizers called it a "systematic mistake."
"It's the system. Not us. We just make policy...for the system"
"It was devastating," the organizers said in a statement provided to Houstonia magazine. "We had insisted and insisted that what we were doing was safe for children, and yet here was a performer who had been charged with sexual assault of a minor.

"It is frustrating that the past conviction of a single performer now undermines the efforts of three dozen other drag kings and queens who have delighted parents and children alike with songs, costumes, and most importantly, stories," the group said. "We have tried so hard to take the high road, to not stoop to mud-slinging. We have patiently listened to the people that declared we were sexualizing and molesting children. We have asked counter-protesters to be peaceful or not show up at all. We have been calm. We have been collected. But we are angry. And we are tired. And we are sick of well-intentioned but misinformed news stories that have only polarized people more."

The group said they ultimately decided that it was time to "step away" from Drag Queen Story Time and "not continue with the program in March or for the foreseeable future."

I will contend that here, actual violence is being brought upon the child by the very administrators we charge with caring for our children.

"But swks, drag queens and kings (wtf that is) are people too."

Yes. Adult people, doing adult things. I ask, how many Babysitter Needed ask specifically for a drag queen, and to babysit in costume? Being kind, let's say 1%. But here, that 1% is forcing all kids to be babysat by an off topic and rare lifestyle put into a position of authority as surrogate parent. Its as bad as teaching these younglings about fellatio.

Seriously, babysitter comes over and you go see a movie, come back and the original babysitter is gone and in its place is some pennywise drag queen with your children sitting on the couch, being lectured. I have a tomahawk for that.

Two button men attacked Mufti Usmani’s car from the right side and behind, resulting in injuries to both his police guard and the driver. Mufti was sitting on the rear seat along with his family members.

Two other button men opened fire on the car behind from the left side, resulting in bullet injuries to its driver and the religious scholar. The vehicle hit a vendor and stopped after hitting a Chhipa ambulance space at NIPA.

Mufti’s driver despite being injured managed to proceed to Liaquat National Hospital where the police guard, Farooq, was pronounced as dead.

SDF engages ISIS across 'several points’ in Euphrates valley
[Rudaw] The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) engaged with Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) "in several points" in eastern Deir ez-Zor province early on Friday morning.

"Our force currently engages against ISIS bully boyz in several points on the Euphrates river valley," SDF overall commander Jia Furat said, as quoted by Mustafa Bali the head of the SDF Press Office.

The SDF did not indicate exactly where the festivities took place, but the gunnies have employed counterattacks this week outside of the SDF's three primary assault axes surrounding al-Baghouz.

Furat added that the "international coalition conducts several Arclight airstrikes against terrorist targets."

The SDF is the partnered ground force of the US-led international coalition.

The predominately-Kurdish Peoples' Protection Units (YPG) forms the backbone of the SDF. Thursday evening, media close to the YPG reported that Baghouz had been "liberated" and the battle to defeat "terrorism ended."

Bali cautioned against media making such proclamations. He said only the SDF's official website, YPG official website, SDF spokesperson, YPJ spokesperson, or he should make such statements for them to be official.

Celebrations broke out in northern Kurdish cities, timed with the demise of the bully boy organization and the new year’s celebration, Newroz.

Baghouz on the Euphrates River and near the Iraqi border has repeatedly been described by senior US military officials as the final ISIS bastion east of the Euphrates.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
ISIS is already making a comeback in northern Iraq where the number of attacks on Iraqi security forces have increased significantly in recent months.

The ISIS propaganda magazine Al Naba claimed in its latest edition published on Thursday that in the first half of the Islamic calendar year which runs from September 11 until March 11, the group carried out 1991 operations. The number of attacks in Iraq were 864 as opposed to 667 in Syria.

Trump Will Not Accept Bad Deal With Taliban: US Official
[ToloNews] A Whitehouse official has said that US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
will not accept any bad deal with the Taliban

about Afghanistan.

According to the official, Trump will not accept any ignorance of the achievements, especially human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
and women rights, made in Afghanistan in the past 18 years during the peace negotiations.

"We are certainly prioritizing peace efforts in Afghanistan. But as with all negotiations that involve vital US national security interests, we have contingency plans. The president has indicated he hopes for the best in these peace talks, but he will also not accept a bad deal," the official told news hounds at the White House on Wednesday.

The Whitehouse official has warned that if the peace talks with the Taliban fail, US has other options to use, including the military option.

"He also recognizes that we have vital terrorism interests in Afghanistan and he certainly is focused on keeping American safe. So we will do what we have to do to ensure those vital national security interests are protected," the official said.

"It is difficult to resolve Afghanistan’s issue through military. Because, in the four decades of war in Afghanistan and 18 years of foreign forces presence in Afghanistan, the issue has not been solved," said Sayed Naqibullah Hashemi, a political analyst.

Afghan politicians said people’s rights should be reserved in the grinding of the peace processor.

"We should not consider peace as losing citizenship rights, women’s rights and we should hope for peace," said Anwarul Haq Ahadi, head of the New National Front of Afghanistan.

"The outline and agenda that the Americans have started for regional and international consensus, as well as among the Afghan people, is ongoing as planned. The ideas which are being expressed are just for undermining and weakening Afghanistan’s grinding of the peace processor," said Bilal Niazi, a political analyst.

Turkey orders detention of 144 over Gulen links
[AlAhram] The Istanbul chief prosecutor said on Friday it had ordered the detention of 126 suspects employed in the judicial system with alleged links to the network of Fethullah Gülen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
, a holy man who The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
says orchestrated a July 2016 coup attempt.

About 250 people were killed in the failed putsch, in which Gulen, a former ally of President Tayyip Erdogan, has denied involvement. Gulen has lived in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania since 1999.

Turkey says that along with its military and state institutions, its judiciary was infiltrated by members of Gulen's network. Since the coup, thousands of prosecutors and judges have been dismissed.

The prosecutor's office said the suspects had lived in houses where the network trained individuals for work in the judicial system. The network then sought to place those who passed the exam in the judicial system as prosecutors or judges, while the rest became part of the network's lawyer organization.

Of the 126 suspects, 108 were lawyers on active duty, eight were judge or prosecutor candidates who were previously removed from their positions and one was a judge or prosecutor candidate on active duty, the prosecutor's office said.

Addresses of 12 of the suspects could not be determined or records showed they had left the country, it said, adding that operations spread over 37 provinces to detain the remaining 114 people were continuing.

In a separate operation on Friday, Ankara chief prosecutor's office said it ordered the detention of 18 suspects accused of links to Gulen who were working as engineers for the defence industry company Havelsan.

More than 77,000 people have been locked away

pending trial since the coup and widespread arrests are still routine. Authorities have suspended or sacked 150,000 civil servants and military personnel.

Israeli Arab charged with aiding Hezbollah’s propaganda efforts
[IsraelTimes] Mahmoud Jabarin allegedly maintained contact with two affiliates of the terror group, provided them with footage from around Israel for psychological warfare purposes.

A 36-year-old resident of Umm al-Fahm was charged Friday at the Haifa District Court with aiding Lebanese terror group Hezbollah from within Israel, providing the organization with videos and photos which it used for propaganda purposes.

Prosecutors said Mahmoud Jabarin maintained contact with two Hezbollah figures: Ali Shaib, correspondent for Hezbollah mouthpiece al-Manar, and Bilal Abdel Satter, front man for the Islamic Resistance Support Association ‐ a charity body used to raise funds for Hezbollah.

Prosecutors said Jabarin intended to "carry out actions that would aid the interests and goals of Hezbollah in its psychological warfare against Israel, by taking photos and making videos throughout the country and sending them to the two agents, so that they would publish the photos/videos and sow fear and anxiety amongst the Israeli public...and to send a message that Hezbollah could reach anywhere in Israel."

Jabarin is also accused of expressing support and praise for Hezbollah on social media.

Officials noted that Jabarin had been summoned for questioning by Israel’s Shin Bet security agency both in 2012 and 2016 and warned against his continued support and contacts with Hezbollah-affiliated figures, but ignored those warnings.

He is charged with several counts of contact with a foreign agent, providing information to the enemy and expressions of support for a terror organization.

Prosecutors have asked that Jabarin be remanded until the end of proceedings.

Dossier-Tied Firm Pitches Reporters Daily on 'Collusion'
[REALCLEARPOLITICS] Key Democratic operatives and private Sherlocks who tried to derail Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s campaign by claiming he was a tool of the Kremlin have rebooted their operation since his election with a multimillion-dollar stealth campaign to persuade major media outlets and politicians that the president should be impeached.

The effort has successfully placed a series of questionable stories alleging secret back channels and meetings between Trump associates and Russian spies, while influencing related investigations and reports from Congress.

The operation’s nerve center is a Washington-based nonprofit called The Democracy Integrity Project, or TDIP. Among other activities, it pumps out daily "research" briefings to prominent Washington journalists, as well as congressional staffers, to keep the Russia "collusion" narrative alive.

TDIP is led by Daniel J. Jones, a former FBI investigator, Clinton administration volunteer and top staffer to Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein
...Dem Senator-for-Life from Caliphornica. She has been a politician since about the time she was weaned. Feinstein was the author of the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban, and tried it a second time in 2012. Feinstein has chaired the Select Committee on Intelligence since 2009. At age 80, Feinstein is the oldest currently serving United States Senator....
. It employs the key opposition-research figures behind the salacious and unverified dossier: Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson and ex-British intelligence officer Remington Christopher Steele. Its financial backers include the actor/director Rob Reiner and billionaire activist George Soros
...either Ernst Stavro Blofeld or Auric Goldfinger come true...
The project’s work has been largely shrouded in mystery. But a months-long examination by RealClearInvestigations, drawn from documents and more than a dozen interviews, found that the organization is running an elaborate media-influence operation that includes driving and shaping daily coverage of the Russia collusion theory, as well as pushing stories about Trump in the national media that attempt to tie the president or his associates to the Kremlin.

The group also feeds information to FBI and congressional Sherlocks, and then tells news hounds that authorities are investigating those leads. The tactic adds credibility to TDIP’s pitches, luring big media outlets to bite on stories. It mirrors the strategy federal authorities themselves deployed to secure FISA warrants to spy on the Trump campaign: citing published news reports of investigative details their informants had leaked to the media to bolster their wiretap requests.

Tens of thousands join anti-Bouteflika rally in central Algiers
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Tens of thousands of Algerians rallied on Friday to demand the immediate resignation of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika
... 10th president-for-life of Algeria. He was elected in 1999 and is currently on his third or fourth term. Maybe it's the fifth....
, who is fighting for his political survival in the face of relentless protests and the desertion of long-time allies.

Defying heavy rain, the protesters brandished Algerian flags and pamphlets as they gathered in the same spot in the capital where a wave of demonstrations first erupted a month ago against Bouteflika’s 20-year rule.

"Rain will not prevent us from continuing pressure," said student Ahmed Khoudja, 23, in a square in central Algiers.

The protests were expected to swell further after Friday prayers, as has happened on the four previous Fridays during this wave of demonstrations that kicked off on Feb 22.

"We stay here until the whole system goes," said Mahmoud Timar, a 37-year old teacher.

Bouteflika, 82, rarely seen in public since suffering a stroke five years ago, bowed to the protesters last week by reversing plans to stand for a fifth term and promising an inclusive politics in Algeria, a major oil and gas producer.

But he stopped short of quitting and said he would stay on until a new constitution is adopted, effectively extending his present term. The move further enraged Algerians, and many of Bouteflika’s allies, from ruling party members to trade union leaders to tycoons, turned against him.

"We are close to victory. The system is divided," said restaurant owner Rachid Zemmir, 55, at Friday’s rally.

ARMY, RULING PARTY BACK PROTESTS
In the most significant development in a month of demonstrations, Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaed Salah on Wednesday threw the army’s weight behind the protesters, saying they had expressed "noble aims".

Soldiers have stayed in their barracks through the unrest but the army has traditionally deeply influenced politics.

The generals have intervened in the past at momentous times, including cancelling an election which Islamists were poised to win in 1992, triggering a civil war in which an estimated 200,000 people were killed.

The ruling National Liberation Front
...the Turkic paramilitaries intended to replace with their native jihadi ferocity all the highly trained Turkish soldiers Sultan Erdogan I the much beloved has jailed in the last few years for not worshipping the ground he walks upon. The Uighurs and so forth who did not join Al Nusra or ISIS seem to have ended up here...
party, known by its French acronym FLN, has also sided with the protesters.

In the past, Bouteflika and his inner circle of fellow veterans of the 1954-1962 war of independence against La Belle France, FLN officials and the military skilfully managed crises.

When the "Arab Spring" revolts toppled autocrats in neighboring countries, Bouteflika used oil revenues to secure loyalty -- offering better salaries for state workers, housing and low-interest loans.

But the price of crude oil has dropped over the years and the young are desperate for jobs, an end to corruption and nepotism and a say in how the North African country is run.

Algerians who credited Bouteflika with negotiating an end to the civil war in the 1990s were eager for stability, even though they shared many of the frustrations which triggered revolts elsewhere.

While Bouteflika was adept at manipulating the opposition in the past, he now faces Algerians of all social classes and ages staging the biggest protests in decades.

Even if Bouteflika quits, it is not clear if the swelling protest movement can bring down the deep state - a secretive network of ruling party leaders, business tycoons and army generals long regarded as invincible.

These figures, who long managed politics in behind-the-scenes negotiations, may be happy to see Bouteflika go but are likely to resist any major political changes, as they have done in the past.

"We review our designations regularly and, as needed, make adjustments to ensure we remain current with nomenclature and other changes," it explained in a statement at the time.

Earlier this month, Washington designated Iranian proxy Harakat al-Nujaba (HAN) and its leader Akram Abbas al-Kabi to the list.

The designations "seek to deny HAN and al-Kabi the resources to plan and carry out terrorist attacks."

In addition to their assets, "property subject to US jurisdiction are blocked, and US persons are generally prohibited from engaging in any transactions with them."

Washington describes HAN as an Iran-backed, Iraqi militia funded by but not under the control of the government of Iraq.

HAN has openly pledged loyalty to Iran and its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was asked about pressure on Iran through Iraq during his visit to Jerusalem on Thursday.

"The simple goal is to get Iran to behave like a normal nation: stop blowing up things around the world; stop fomenting terrorism; stop their liquidation campaign in Europe; stop underwriting the Houthis, Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,, Hizbollah," he told news hounds during a press briefing.

Baghdad’s control of Shiite militias and paramilitias was problematic during the ISIS conflict and continues to be so because the US-led coalition cannot provide direct air support or training to the Shiite forces, which often engage ISIS.

"The sanctions regime that we’ve put in place for designating those connected to Iranian malign activity, wherever we find then, including in places like Iraq," explained Pompeo.

Man charged with torching family’s home, killing his own mother
[NYPOST] A Louisiana man suspected of filling a water jug with gasoline and torching his family’s apartment last fall, killing his 78-year-old mother, has been formally indicted.

Erik Beasley, 40, was charged Thursday with first-degree murder and aggravated arson in the Nov. 23 death of Sarah Beasley, the Times-Picayune reports, citing the Orleans Gay Pareeh District Attorney’s Office.

Beasley was nabbed
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
after being spotted on surveillance footage at a gas station less than a mile from his residence buying two-gallon water jugs. He then emptied one of the containers before refilling it with gasoline, according to an arrest warrant.

Beasley’s mother was found burned to death inside the apartment about 30 minutes later. An empty gallon-sized water jug was found near her body. A coroner later determined she died of smoke inhalation, according to the warrant.

Investigators started zeroing in on Erik Beasley after finding no signs of forced entry into the apartment, where he lived with his mother and her husband, who discovered the woman’s body and gave detectives information regarding his whereabouts prior to the blaze.

Beasley has been in jug since Nov. 27 and is currently receiving treatment at the psychiatric unit of the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel in lieu of $900,000 bond, according to the Times-Picayune.

Prosecutors have indicated that they do not intend to seek the death penalty
against Beasley, the New Orleans Advocate reports.
"Have mercy on me. I'm an orphan"
Days after her death, Beasley’s relatives said they did not want her to be remembered as a victim, but rather as a loving and caring person who enjoyed cooking and reading the Bible.

"I love her forever," grandson Richard Beasley told WDSU in November. "It won’t change. She will live on through us no matter what."

A motive in the alleged killing remains unclear.

France reprimands Israeli envoy after shut down of East Jerusalem event
[IsraelTimes] Gay Paree says police action at French Institute cultural center was a ’serious and unacceptable attack,’ while Jerusalem insists event was sponsored by PA and thus illegitimate.

La Belle France’s foreign ministry on Friday summoned Israel’s chargé d’affaires in Gay Paree for a reprimand a day after Israeli authorities shut down a planned cultural event at a site belonging to the French Institute in East Jerusalem.

Israeli officials had alleged the event was to involve an association supported by the Paleostinian Authority. Israel has banned the PA from carrying out official business in East Jerusalem, which it considers territory under its jurisdiction.

The French ministry said that "such acts represent a serious and unacceptable attack on the functioning of our cultural network in Jerusalem." It vowed to "maintain and develop the close and long-standing relations it has with Paleostinian civil society."
...unlike the less close relations they are required by necessity to have with that shitty little country, Israel.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry said deputy ambassador in La Belle France Marc Attali registered Israel’s protest over the institute hosting an event sponsored by the PA.

"The Israeli envoy made clear that we will not accept PA events in Jerusalem and that we expect our friends to honor the rules as well," it said.

The incident occurred Thursday at the Institut Francais Chateaubriand center in East Jerusalem, when in a rare move Israeli police entered the center and ordered the event canceled.

One of the women who was to participate told AFP "it was an event related to Mother’s Day" to sell crafts made by women from Jerusalem. She said similar events occur on a near-monthly basis.

The French consulate said it could not confirm if the association was indeed financed by the PA, but Paleostinians who were to participate in the event said the allegation was false.

After police arrived, La Belle France’s consul general immediately protested against the action at an institute "belonging to our diplomatic and cultural network," a French diplomatic source said.

The consul called on police "to leave the location," and security forces left in the late morning, the source said, adding that the consulate took the incident "seriously."

Israel captured East Jerusalem from Jordan in the Six Day War of 1967 and later extended illusory sovereignty over it in a move never recognized by the international community.

It considers the entire city its capital, while the Paleostinians claim East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.

Italy to grant citizenship to Egyptian boy who saved children on hijacked school bus
[AlAhram] Italia’s interior ministry has said the country will grant citizenship to an Egyptian schoolboy who alerted authorities that his school bus had been hijacked by its driver on Wednesday.

The driver, an Italian of Senegal
... a nation of about 14 million on the west coast of Africa bordering Mauretania to the north, Mali to the east, and a pair of Guineas to the south, one of them Bissau. It is 90 percent Mohammedan and has more than 80 political parties. Its primary purpose seems to be absorbing refugees...
ese descent, hijacked the vehicle, which had 51 children on board, near Milan and set it on fire, in an apparent protest at migrant drownings in the Mediterranean.

Thirteen-year-old Ramy Shehata hid his mobile phone when the bus driver confiscated phones from students and called the authorities. Police then rushed to the scene and broke the bus windows to get the passengers to safety.

The office of Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said it would grant citizenship to Shehata.

"The interior ministry is ready to take on the expenses and speed up the procedures to recognise citizenship for the little hero. The hope is to attribute ... citizenship to Ramy and remove it from the bus driver," the ministry said in a statement.

Shehata was born in Italia but was has never been granted official citizenship documents, his father told Italia’s Ansa news agency on Thursday.

"My son did his duty, it would be nice if he got Italian citizenship now," the father, Khaled Shehata, told the news agency. "We would love to stay in this country."

Police front man Marco Palmieri said that during the standoff the driver shouted: "Stop the deaths at sea, I’ll carry out a massacre." He was apparently referring to the deaths of African migrants colonists at sea while trying to reach Europe.

According to the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
, some 2,297 migrants colonists drowned or went missing in the Mediterranean in 2018.

Italia has taken a hard line on the matter, closing its ports to charity search and rescue ships, something that observers say drove up deaths.

Gang of 30 angry hippos attacks croc in Tanzania
[OUTLINE] A video has emerged showing one unlucky crocodile being confronted by a gang of 30 hippos in the Serengeti, Tanzania. The croc stood little chance against its larger rivals, who made sure the unwanted guest was firmly ejected from their ’pool party.’

The crocodile was in the wrong place at the wrong time when he found himself in the middle of a group of more than 30 giant hippos, resting near each other in the murky water. Having noticed the predator, the animals, known for their aggressive and unpredictable temper, turned hostile.

The hippos formed a united front against the croc, with the heavyweights sinking their jaws into the reptile, pushing it away from their territory like bouncers tossing a drunkard out of a bar. The epic scene was recorded by a 71-year-old retired sonographer, Harish Kumar.

"This was just an unbelievable sighting," Kumar told Latest Sightings. "The croc was completely outnumbered and found himself being thrown around and bitten by the hippos. Luckily he managed to get away unharmed." The moral of the story: don’t mess with angry, angry hippos.

Two Palestinians killed by IDF fire in weekly Gaza protests
[Jpost] Thirty more Paleostinians were maimed from IDF fire as 9,500 gathered along the Gazoo border fence to take part in the protests.

Israeli forces killed two Paleostinians on Friday and maimed 55 others taking part in weekly protests along the fortified Israel-Gazoo border, the Paleostinian health ministry said.

Medical officials said two men aged 29 and 18 were killed by Israeli fire at two sites in central Gazoo.

The Israeli military said its forces faced around 9,500 demonstrators, some hurling rocks and rolling burning tires. A military spokeswoman said troops had responded with "riot dispersal means" and fired according to standard operating procedures.
The Times of Israel adds:
Also Friday, a balloon carrying an incendiary device launched from Gazoo set a blaze between homes in the nearby Israeli kibbutz of Nir Am. The fire was extinguished and there were no reports of injuries. Another blaze was started near Kibbutz Be’eri.

‘Heavy fighting’ in Baghouz as Trump declares ISIS defeated
[Rudaw] The crack of machine gun fire and the thud of Arclight airstrikes to the east of Baghouz, Syria belied a claim from US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
in Florida that the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) so-called caliphate was finished.

"So here is ISIS on election day. Here’s ISIS right now. If you look ‐ so there’s ISIS. And that’s what we have right now, as of last night," Trump told news hounds on arrival in Palm Beach, Florida on Friday, showing maps of the region that indicated ISIS no longer controlled any territory.

White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders also said "the territorial caliphate has been eliminated in Syria."

That claim does not reflect the reality on the ground. "Heavy fighting
... as opposed to the more usual name-calling or slapsy...
continues around mount Baghouz right now to finish off whatever remains of ISIS," tweeted Mustafa Bali, head of the media office of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) who are battling ISIS.

Reporters on the ground also contradicted Trump’s claim.

"Another airstrikes [sic] now, tracers, heavy machine gun fire on eastern end of Baghouz. I guess not everyone heard the White House statement re 100 elimination of ISIS territory," tweeted CNN’s Ben Wedeman.

He added that "hundreds" of snuffies were still fighting, according to the SDF.

The battle to defeat the snuffies in their last major holdout has played out over weeks because of the unexpected presence of tens of thousands of people ‐ including many women and kiddies ‐ in the small area.

Friday morning, the SDF said they had engaged with ISIS snuffies in "several points" and the US-led international coalition conducted a number of airstrikes.
Al Arabiya adds:
President Donald Trump said Friday "it's about time" that the group no longer controls territory in the region, after a campaign by US and coalition forces that spanned five years and two US presidencies, unleashed more than 100,000 bombs, and killed untold numbers of civilians.

[Ynet] The clock is ticking toward another military confrontation in Gazoo as murderous Moslems demand cash and generous economic concessions but are not willing to offer Israel any concrete guarantees regarding security and the Israelis being held hostage in the Strip.

NASA's SLS rocket becomes Boeing’s latest headache as Trump demands moon mission before 2020 election
[Redit on WaPo article] Boeing senior executives arrived at NASA headquarters two weeks ago for what they knew would be a tense meeting. The rocket they’ve been building for NASA was behind schedule and billions of dollars over budget. Worse yet, there was no way it was going to be ready for a scheduled maiden launch in June 2020.

One estimate had the rocket launch as late as November 2021, and NASA’s leaders were furious, according to people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to be candid about sensitive negotiations. President Trump and Vice President Pence wanted NASA to pull off something big and bold with human spaceflight before the 2020 election: sending a crewless capsule around the moon in a precursor to an eventual return of American astronauts to the lunar surface.

#1  ...As another space traveler once said, "I've got a bad feeling about this." My dad retired from NASA - he started just after the Challenger accident and retired just before Columbia went in (he received an award for his work on Columbia, and was to have been given it by the mission commander had they gotten back). His opinion of the NASA leadership was withering - they did not exist to explore or research, but to insure money got to contractors. And not long before he passed last January, he told me that he believed any effort to get a ship - manned or otherwise - around the Moon would result in a spectacular and embarrassing failure, especially if they were pushed into it.

I simply cannot see NASA having the courage - political, technical, or otherwise - to challenge their Congressional masters, and Boeing will not have the guts to stand up and say they're not ready. Someone will say "Fly the mission," and a couple billion people will watch as we launch the world's biggest and most expensive bottle rocket while Mr. Bezos and Mr. Musk keep successfully flying their privately funded birds.

#4  Mike, they get a couple billion dollars a year more than Musk to spend on development. If they can't send an unmanned capsule around the moon they need to lose their funding. They've spent something like 30 billion on it over the last ten years, and it's still not ready?

#6  #4 TFSM,

One of Dad's stories that has stayed with me the longest was in the late 80s, he was assigned as the team chief for the design of a triple-sonic-plus air intake - but he was going to have to wait until the research was done, which was going to be something on the order of three YEARS.

Dad did some thinking, and started digging into the NASA archives. He found just what they needed...in the the mountains of data collected when NASA owned the surviving XB-70 Valkyrie in the late 60s and early 70s. Feeling rather proud of himself, he went to his boss and gave him the good news.

Unfortunately, that worthy had a meltdown worthy of an MSNBC host reading the Mueller report, and told Dad to not only drop the idea, but forget he'd ever even seen it. Upon returning to his section, he told his team what had happened and they explained it: using existing data doesn't get NASA or contractors any money. The wheel gets reinvented every time, whether it needs to be or not.

#11  As heartless as it sounds, if NASA does blow one of its own missions up, this time it will find itself cancelled, and good riddance. The private companies are now present to do what it always pretended it would eventually do (and those companies are not the traditional arms contractors who want to just keep sucking up money, like Boeing). Let them do it and let Boeing wither. They seem utterly incapable of quality. Delays in delivering the new tankers, faults that were covered up in those planes that are falling out of the sky, and these rockets that apparently don't exist. Nothing is really going well (other than Airbus being on the bleeding edge of bankruptcy).

Subway riders film brute kicking elderly woman in the face instead of trying to help
[NYPOST] An elderly woman was repeatedly kicked in the face and body during a savage Bronx subway attack caught on video.

The video, which was posted to Twitter by user @BKLYNRELL1, shows the man assault the victim as she is sitting in a northbound No. 2 train around 3 a.m. March 10, police said.

The woman, who was alone, tries to defend herself as he continues to attack her ‐ all while other straphangers can be heard shouting in the background.

As the train was stopped at Nereid Avenue, the man yells something at his victim before turning around, looking at the camera and shouting, "WorldStar that, my n‐a." ‐ referring to the popular social media page that is filled with violent videos. He then got off the train.

No one called 911 right away, police said, and the person behind the camera continued recording the woman as she held her hand to her head.

Police weren’t notified until the train arrived at the next and last stop, at Wakefield-241st Street station, when a bystander approached a police officer in the station.

The witness told police the victim had suffered a small cut to her head, but the woman has not yet come forward to police.

Hickenlooper offers something different in crowded Democratic field: A detailed history of his sexual conquests
[Washington Times] If Democratic voters are struggling to see what sets John Hickenlooper apart from the 2020 pack they need to look no further than his autobiography, which outlines in excruciating detail his quest to lose his virginity and, seemingly, every sexual exploit since.

The candidate's book, The Opposite of Woe: My Life in Beer and Politics, outlines the journey from a child in the Philadelphia suburbs to the president of a brewing company, mayor of Denver, and then governor of Colorado.

Sprinkled throughout is the minutiae of his angst-ridden relationships with women, named and unnamed. A Washington Examiner analysis totaled Hickenlooper's declared sexual partners at seven, including his two wives. Even his experience of the 9/11 terrorism attacks is viewed through the prism of whom he was in bed with at the time.
He even discusses going to porno-theaters with his mother!

Swedes say they can house a refugee, but promptly reject opportunity when offered to do so
[RT] A Swedish TV channel erupted into the streets to quiz people on whether they would be willing to house a refugee, and then called their bluff by putting their answers to an immediate test.

Samhällsnytt (Social News) sent a news hound onto the streets of Sweden to quiz people on the country’s current immigration policy and ask if they would be personally willing to help out.

Respondents said they believe the country should continue to take in refugees, and everyone featured said they’d be willing to provide accomodation for an immigrant in need in their own home.

Boko Haram militants kill 23 Chad soldiers: Security sources
[AlAhram] Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
hard boyz killed at least 23 Chadian soldiers overnight, Chadian security sources said on Friday, in what appeared to be the deadliest such attack inside Chad by the Islamist bully boys.

Boko Haram has been fighting for a decade to carve an Islamist caliphate out of northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
, and has carried out regular raids over loosely guarded borders into neighbouring Chad, Niger and Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
Friday's attack occurred in the town of Dangdala, near the banks of Lake Chad, two security sources told Rooters.

One of them added that the assailants were believed to have crossed the frontier from Niger before attacking Chadian soldiers around 1:25 a.m. (0025 GMT).

An army front man declined to comment.

Chadian soldiers are part of a U.S.-trained West African task force deployed to counter Boko Haram. The violence over the past decade has killed more than 30,000 people and forced about 2 million to leave their homes.
Deutsche Welle adds:
Security sources said the militants were believed to have made off with military equipment.

Mentally ill prisoner Khizar Hayat passes away after spending 16 years on death row
[DAWN] Khizar Hayat, a mentally ill prisoner who spent the last 16 years of his life on death row, passed away on the night of March 21, the Justice Project Pakistain (JPP) announced on Friday.

According to a JPP blurb, 56-year-old Hayat passed away at Jinnah Hospital Lahore, where he was admitted after he stopped taking food and medication.

The jail authorities reported him to be "severely anaemic and hypotensive". He was fitted with a feeding tube by the doctors, but his condition kept deteriorating and he fell unconscious during his final hours.

He is survived by four children and his mother.

Hayat, a former police constable, was convicted in October 2001 for killing a fellow policeman, while a trial court had handed him a death sentence two years later.

According to the JPP, Khizar was first diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia by jail authorities in 2008. His mental health record consistently referred to his delusions, psychosis, and his mental illness, and showed that he has been prescribed powerful anti-psychotic medication. The conditions of his incarceration made his mental illness progressively worse.
Slightly worse than we handle such cases here, but really not by much.
